Don't Sell Me a Dog (2021) Movie Script

(traffic hums)
(birds tweet)
(crow caws)
(paper rustles)
(passing car roars)
(paper rustles)
(bag unzips)
[CD] Jackpot.
(switch clicks)
I can't tell if you're
just high or stupid.
You have the wrong office, I think, no?
Of all the people,
Clarence, they send you?
I, I, I sent myself.
Oh?
Smelt an opportunity, didn't I?
Product or the money?
Both really, I guess.
You know, buy more and sell more.
Turning it over just
like you always told me.
But it's not what it looks like.
I was gonna give in back
in like in a day or two.
It's just to make it a few extra notes.
Buy more to sell more?
From who?
And to whom?
From who and to whom, huh?
These are my streets!
My city!
This isn't even your side of the city
(slap)
(door squeaks)
(muffled chatter)
[Brian] Don't shit
in your own back yard.
Isn't that what they always say, Clarence?
(Clarence pants)
You know, I've been around the
block a few times, Clarence.
Many times, in fact.
And although I'm still
tiptoeing over those I killed
the first time around, I
still meet skanks like you,
prepared to stand up to me!
I was just trying to better myself.
[Brian] No, you weren't.
You were trying to take the
big dog down, weren't you?
- No, no-
- Biggest dog there is!
No, no.
Woof, woof! Woof!
(chuckles)
(Clarence pants)
(giggles)
You know something, pal?
If you're gonna piss yourself,
then you're gonna die
like a puppy in a field.
Hey, Brian!
(thud)
(Brian groans)
Dele!
Thank fuck.
(wrench clangs)
Is he dead?
Who knows?
And who the fuck cares? (Spits)
- Are you okay? You're hurt.
- It's just a scratch.
It's just a fucking scratch, I said!
I'm sorry, CD. I know
I should've come sooner.
Yeah, I'm sorry.
You did good. Just like
we said, all right?
Now come on, all right?
Dele, this...
This is what we wanted. A new beginning.
Come on, we need to go.
(car door slams)
(Joe sighs)
I know, I know.
Sure, where else have I got to be?
(chuckles) What else
have I got to be doing?
(sniffs)
Bit whiffy.
(lid clinks)
(liquid trickles)
(lid clinks)
(groans)
(flask clangs)
(sighs)
(spits)
(groans) Cold.
Yuck.
Should've had it sooner when it was warm.
(sighs)
Should've done a lot of things sooner.
Aye.
Why not?
Soup today, I think.
(keys clink)
(rapid thuds)
(Brian grunts)
If I met Maggie in the woods,
upon me soul I'd do her good
If I met Maggie in the woods
I'd keep her there till morning
(jaunty folk music)
If I met Maggie in the woods,
upon me soul I'd do her good
If I met Maggie in the woods
I'd squeeze her auld malogen
(Brian groans)
Fucking pricks!
(muffled radio chatter)
[Reporter] Closer to
home, the hunt is still on
for a killer now believed
to be directly involved
in the missing persons investigation
into six young females
over the last 10 years.
(crow caws)
(distant traffic hums)
(passing car roars)
(Joe grunts)
(car door slams)
(flask clinks)
(keys clink)
(rapid thuds)
(seat belt clicks)
(passing car roars)
Get out of the fucking car now!
Get the fuck off me!
Get out, now!
Get off me! It's my car!
- Get out!
- Do what he says!
Get the fuck out!
(grunting)
- Get off me!
- Hurry up, man!
It's my car and you're not getting it!
Go on, get the fuck off me!
No!
- Get out of the car!
- No, it's my-
- Get out of the fucking car!
Get out of the fucking car!
- It's my car and I'm not-
Get out! (Screams)
Get out!
Get out! Get out of the fucking car!
- Get off!
- Get out!
- Fuck off!
- Fucking drive, then!
Drive, old man!
Okay.
Where do you want me to go?
- Anywhere!
[Adele] Fucking anywhere, just go!
- Anywhere?
- Yeah, anywhere.
Just fucking anywhere! Go, man, come on!
Leave your fucking mirrors!
Go!
No.
No, I don't.
Dele, I think we did it.
I think we fucking did it.
That was fucking stupid, old man, yeah?
Here, give us your phone.
- What?
- Your phone!
Give me your fucking phone!
- I don't have one.
What?
Check him.
Careful!
Why don't you have a phone?
I don't have anybody to call.
(scoffs) You sad old fucker.
All right.
Yeah, yeah. Story, it's me.
Yeah, we took it all. No, no, all of it.
You should've got out
when you had the chance.
It's all I've got. I need it.
Not as much as we do.
I somehow doubt that.
We took all of it!
I don't care what we fucking agreed to.
I don't fucking care
what we agreed to! Fuck!
Is that your da?
I'm 23.
(laughs) Don't sell me a dog.
What?
All right, all right,
now you're talking my-
18 at the most.
19, then, actually.
All right and can you get it all
cut by this evening, yeah?
All right, all right.
Yeah, then we'll be there, yeah?
Just nothing's changed but the amount.
Just make sure you're fucking there, yeah?
All right.
Here, give me something.
- What?
Anything, fucking anything!
Just give me something!
Fucking hell.
I don't think I have my lighter.
For fuck sake, Dele, come on!
I know, but we left in a rush!
Here.
Come on, come on!
(sighs)
What now?
Just stick to the plan.
Just always stick to
the fucking plan, yeah?
Well, he wasn't part
of the fucking plan.
(muffled chatter from radio)
No, wait your fucking turn!
You are such a fucking dick today!
Could you open a window, please?
Hey, don't fucking piss
me off, old man, yeah?
(passing car roars)
Hey, please.
If you don't mind.
What are you, a gardener?
What?
Oh, what's this?
Stop, please!
Stop fucking talking
to the hostage, would ya?
Hostage? He said hostage.
Kinky!
You said hostage! What
do you mean, hostage?
I have places I have to be.
Even fuckin' kinkier.
Shut up, all right? I'm trying to think!
Fuck.
That's just a weeder.
My wife...
I use it when I'm cleaning the
graves and things like that
just to get the weeds out
between the cracks and stuff.
If you're not a gardener,
then what are you?
What?
If you're not a gardener,
then what are you?
Like are you just some kind of perv?
A widower, if you must know.
[Clarence] Right, now that
we're all best friends, yeah?
Here's what's gonna happen.
We don't actually wanna hurt you, old man.
So I'm not a hostage then?
It was your fucking
choice to stay, wasn't it?
More like a...
An annoying stowaway.
Here, take it.
- No-
- Fucking take it!
Fuck sake, Dele.
Geez.
(sighs)
Here's the thing, we need
to be somewhere by tonight
and we're taking your car to do it.
- But I-
- Whether you like it or not!
Just listen to him, please.
Now I may not exactly
be fit to fucking drive
and Dele not fucking able, too.
You've actually done us a massive favor
by being a stubborn old fuck.
I'm bleeding out and
I need something fast.
He's taking us to a chemist, CD.
Good, good.
(birds tweet)
(traffic hums)
(crow caws)
Are you from around here?
Just round the corner up the hill there.
All right, I don't need
your fucking life story, yeah?
Just fucking get us there quick. (Groans)
Joe.
What?
My name's Joe.
So who fucking gives a shit?
Just get us there fucking fast, yeah?
I'm Adele.
- Pleased to meet you, Adele.
- Nice to meet you too, Joe.
All right, here, here. Take this.
Get as much fucking
methadone as you can, yeah?
Yeah, um, anything else?
Yeah, everything.
- Everything?
- Fucking everything, yeah?
Fucking rob the place if
you have to. Fucking hell.
(car door slams)
Now nothing fucking stupid, yeah?
You shouldn't talk to her like that.
What?
What the fuck did you just say?
I said you shouldn't
talk to her like that.
She's just a kid.
Yeah and what would
you fucking know, huh?
Would you talk to your mother like that?
(Clarence chuckles)
See, me ma spent her life
in and out of fucking rehab,
drugged and drunk and some shit, so, no,
I don't think she'd give a shit
how I fucking spoke to her.
Still doesn't make it right.
You're not the only kid with
a sob story for a childhood.
And like I said, what
the fuck would you know?
It's not like I was
fucking my ma now, was I?
But Adele, she fucking
wants to be with me.
Just like you fucking did, remember?
Oh, (chuckles) I didn't want
to be here. I had no choice.
Ah, maybe it's the same for her.
Shut up, someone's coming.
Nothing fucking stupid, yeah?
Put the knife away. You don't need it.
(scoffs) You think?
Nope.
(chuckles) I'm not scared
and I'm not going anywhere.
Well, maybe I'll be the
fucking judge of that, yeah?
See, where I came from?
Scum like you are two-a-penny. (Chuckles)
Hey, fucking careful, old man.
(car door slams)
Sentimental.
Do you even know what that means?
I didn't think so.
It means lots of memories.
Lots.
You'd have to kill me
before I gave it away.
Well, that can be arranged.
(chuckles) I'm sure it could!
State you're in?
(chuckles) You kill me, eh?
State you're in?
You're lucky if you got to the
end of the road. (Chuckles)
Now, put it away.
(chuckles)
You've got big balls, old
man. I'll give you that much.
Shit fucking car, but...
Big balls.
Does it really mean that much to you?
Yep.
(chuckles) My wife used to always say
she was never sure which I loved most.
Her or the car. (Chuckles)
[Clarence] Was she right?
No! Of course not.
Aye, but no matter. No matter.
In the end, I lost her.
So, I'm not losing her.
Takes a lot to keep her
running though, you know?
Time.
Money.
And love.
- That's all they've got.
- It'll fuckin' do.
(grunts)
Come on. Get us out of here.
[Joe] You'll need more than
that to fix that cut, son.
(crow caws)
(crow caws)
(crow caws)
Which way now?
- North! Always fucking north!
[Joe] Right.
But you know whoever's after you
will have eyes on the motorways.
The back roads, little country
lanes. They might be safer.
I know ways.
[Thug] Right, well I've just seen 'em.
I know where they're going.
- Follow me down.
- I can't, I've got the boy.
- Follow me down.
I can't, I've got the boy.
We're going for a haircut.
Fucking prick!
Come on, Harrison. Come on!
Fucking hell.
Come on, get in.
[Harrison] I thought
I was getting a haircut.
You know, he's not a bad person?
Really like me neither, he just, um...
We just both kind of want a fresh start.
Like a new break.
Somewhere new.
Aye. (Sighs)
You know you don't make a fresh start
by running away, right?
And nowhere's new if
you've got to keep running.
[Adele] How do I work these?
[Joe] Eh...
- Oh, thank you.
- Yep.
Can't stand being cold.
Here! No, here.
No, you're fine. Really.
Oh, no? Well...
Thank you, though.
(window hums)
Don't fucking look at me. Look ahead.
I haven't got all day!
Don't fucking look at me! What the fuck?
It was a zero-eight hatchback.
- Look ahead!
- Black.
Dublin plates.
Heading into town.
- Definitely him?
- Definitely him.
- Do you miss her?
- Aye, every day.
Aww, but, you know, sometimes though,
I'm just glad that it's
not her that's missing me.
I guess I'm getting a comfort
out of that, you know?
Truth be told, near the end,
she wasn't the same anyway.
When it really came down to
it, really near the time,
death was really a blessing, actually.
(muffled classic rock music)
(sighs)
(mumbles)
And then sometimes you have
to wonder if the road's
too bumpy to even bother to carry on.
CD saved me from all that.
Like, from what you're talking about.
I did want to do it,
and when I felt like I needed to.
But I don't know if this
makes any sense to you,
but I didn't want to die cold.
Well, perhaps you've got to ask yourself
what it is that's making you feel so cold.
It helps, though.
Does it?
Yeah.
Sometimes.
You know, sometimes people
go through so much fake pain
to avoid the real pain,
when really, the best option is just to...
(groans) Who am I to fucking talk anyway?
[Reporter] Dozens dead
and many more missing
after heavy floods in Japan.
And closer to home, the hunt is still on
for a killer now believed
to be directly involved
in the missing persons investigations
of up to six young females
over the last 10 years.
(ignition clicks)
(door closes)
(Clarence groans)
Fuck.
Fuck.
Fuck. Dele, wake up.
Wake up, for fuck sake!
- Oh, my god! What the fuck?
What?
- Fuck!
- What?
He ran!
Where would he even go?
- (grunts) Fuck!
- He wouldn't do that.
Well, he fucking has!
And he took the fucking keys.
(sighs) Fuck.
(grunts) Okay.
We need...
We need to get out of here.
- Go where?
Keep going. North, always fucking north!
Just stick to the fucking plan, all right?
The guards are probably
on the fucking way.
You were meant to be
fucking looking after him!
I must've dozed off.
Sorry, it couldn't have been for long.
(paper rustles)
(Clarence breathes heavily)
You know, there isn't enough.
(breathes heavily)
You didn't fucking get enough.
Well, that's just all I could get.
Well, it wasn't fucking enough!
Fuck.
We need to find another
car. (Breathes heavily)
Get out of here.
What?
What is it?
- Joe!
(Joe laughs)
(chuckles)
I wasn't sure what you liked, guys.
So I just got you a wee bit of everything.
What the fuck, old man?
What are you doing?
[Joe] Food!
Food?
[Joe] Thought you'd
be hungry. I know I am.
Give me the fucking keys. I'm driving.
Today!
- Okay.
(Clarence breathes heavily)
Come on, come on!
[Joe] I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
I was just trying to let you rest.
(Clarence breathes heavily)
(Clarence grunts)
Ah, fuck this. You fucking drive, yeah?
(groans)
(car doors slam)
(rapid thuds)
Give me that.
All right. Get going, old man.
You better have gotten fucking red sauce.
Cheers.
You not hungry?
You sure?
When did you last eat?
No. No, really.
I'm good, thanks.
Go on! You'll feel better for it.
No, it's not that. I'm vegan.
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
(chuckles) It's fine, it's
just one of the more healthier
lifestyle choices ideas I adhere to.
Oh.
(plastic rustles)
Oh, fuck it. Give us a bit of that.
(Joe laughs)
Oh, god, Dele.
Wait, wait. What time's it?
It's 20 past 12.
Why? What does that mean?
It means you're getting
the fuck back in there.
You are over 18, right?
- Mm-hm?
(Clarence chuckles)
(muffled chatter from radio)
Here, give the old man a can, yeah?
No, you're okay.
Well, then have some
vodka or, what else we got?
Oh, whiskey. (Chuckles)
Now we're talking.
(coughs)
Oh, that's the stuff right there.
Come on.
Have some.
- No, you're okay.
- Come on, have some, man!
Leave him the fuck alone, Clarence!
Don't fucking call me that!
You know not to call me that!
You sound like my fucking mam!
(giggles)
(Joe coughs)
Good man!
- Fucking Jesus.
See, now we're all
having a good time, yeah?
(Joe coughs)
What if I'm stopped? (Chuckles)
Well, if you're stopped,
we're all pretty fucked
anyway, man, so come on, drink.
Fuck it.
And you? Watch your fucking mouth, yeah?
And you? Stop fucking judging me, yeah?
I'm not judging anybody.
I wouldn't! I'm not!
(jaunty folk music)
[Clarence] Turn it up, would ya?
He likes to let himself go.
(groans) Shit, I need to pull over.
I need to stretch. I'm
getting old, you know?
(car doors slam)
(lighter flicks)
(chuckles)
(lighter flicks)
You have family?
(lighter flicks)
Yeah.
If I can even call them that anymore.
I'd steal from all of them.
Ah.
My brother was 12 and I
stole his confirmation money.
I'm surprised at how
easy it was to lose track
of how many people I owed money.
At first it was just
a little bit,
and then a lot.
And they put pressure on me instead of CD,
'cause I don't really do that stuff.
I don't think I quite realized how
dangerous of a situation I was in.
At the time.
They hurt my dad.
Just near our house. They
thought it was me going home.
[Joe] They kick you out?
No, they wouldn't do
that. They'd never do that.
(Joe sighs)
They were trying so hard.
I don't think I noticed at the time
how hard they were trying.
I thought it was just fucking annoying.
They just wanted to help, I think.
My mom wanted me to go to counseling.
She was driving me to rehab
centers and I'd be fighting
with them all the time
'cause I didn't want to go
and they were just trying
to help, but at the time,
I think I just thought they
were trying to control me.
But I know now it's just because
they wanted me to be better
and they didn't like seeing me like this.
But I think it was when I
got the call from my mom
and I was sitting in A&E till
like four in the morning.
I was so worried about dad.
I was looking at how
stressed they all were.
This isn't okay, you know?
It's not okay for me to be here
and making all these people
feel this way when all
they do is care about me
and all I'm just doing is hurting them
by staying around, so...
I don't know, I...
Just, over the next week, I
just got my stuff together and
just went to school as normal.
And then one day, I didn't
come back from school.
And then, yeah, I just, I left
a note and stuff and my key.
(Joe chuckles)
Just went?
You know, when I was
younger, it was just like
I just started smoking with my friends
'cause it was just this cool thing.
And then we started getting bags and stuff
because it was fun.
It was just a joke. Like,
it wasn't serious at all.
And then, I don't even talk to
any of those people anymore.
Like, I don't even hang
out with the same people.
I don't even have all those
friends where we were just
doing this for fun anymore and now I'm
at this completely different stage.
Yeah, different. You said that.
It's not too late to make it right.
Yeah.
I think it's called "chasing the dragon".
The addiction thing.
I don't know if you knew
that. I was reading about it.
But it's like this concept that
you're always trying
to get that first buzz,
the very first high you felt that
felt like it changed something for you.
Yeah.
Aye.
Hey.
Dragon's can be slayed.
(muffled classic rock music)
What are you fucking looking at, huh?
Nothing.
Nothing?
Like the shit on your
shoes are nothing, huh?
No, I didn't mean it like that.
I'm fucking more than nothing, yeah?
I'm this.
I'm fucking this and this!
Does this fucking look like
nothing to you, does it?
Fucking turn that shit off, would ya?
Fucking nothing.
I mean, like, does this look
like fucking nothing to you, man, does it?
He didn't mean it like that!
Shut the fuck up, Dele, yeah?
Fuck.
(sighs)
See this, yeah?
This is gonna change everything.
Get all you fucking judgy
fuckers off me back.
See this, yeah?
This is fucking power right here, yeah?
60 fucking grands worth.
Well, old man?
What do you think?
- That's a lot of money.
- Fucking right it is!
Fucking judging me.
(Joe chuckles)
(birds tweet)
[Adele] Money can
change people for better.
You just said it.
Aye.
Or for worse.
Not everyone, not everyone.
You can still visit her every day.
What?
Like, if you had money,
you could still visit her.
Maybe like in a fancier car.
- Yeah.
- You might meet someone else.
Ah!
Nah, maybe just the car.
Have one.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
You're my fucking hostage, remember?
(chuckles) You're getting into this.
What'd you mean earlier?
What?
"Don't sell me a dog". What's that?
Oh.
It's Victorian slang.
It means "don't tell me a lie".
(chuckles)
Ah, I mean, we kinda loved
everything Victorian, so we did.
Victorian?
Aye!
Fantastic. Fantastic time period.
You think about it, the
industrial revolution,
the tall ships, the railways.
Talking pictures!
Charles Dickens, Jack the Ripper!
Oh, like Sweeney Todd and stuff?
(laughs) Aye.
You know he's not real, though, don't ya?
We especially liked
the post mortem photos.
You know, the ones where their relatives
are there with their dead relatives,
standing there absolutely,
they're just so poignant.
They're really, really powerful.
Aye.
I kinda think there's
something pretty about that.
You know?
I guess?
(muffled chatter from radio)
(birds tweet)
[Clarence] Pull over. I need a piss.
[Joe] Are you all right, son?
(muffled chatter from radio)
(birds tweet)
- Give me that.
- What?
[Clarence] It's fucking
cold out there, yeah?
[Adele] CD.
[Clarence] I'm taking
this in case you fuckers
get any ideas.
(car door slams)
Perhaps you'll write a
book about this sometime, hm?
Why did you stay, Joe?
Could you not just like run?
Or get help or something?
Oh, I don't know.
(sighs) Just because you do something
that makes you feel better,
helps you stop being sick
and feeling the harshness
of the real world, you know,
it doesn't make it right.
(sighs) I don't know.
Just because it hurts,
you know, doesn't mean
to say that doing it,
keeping doing it makes it any better
and makes it right, either.
Is this me or you you're talking about?
(Joe sighs)
(Joe laughs)
I'm not here just to help you.
Truth be, I was kind of
trying to help myself.
(sighs)
I wonder if I haven't died, too,
and this is just me
here, to haunt the world.
You're the first people
I've met in a week.
Post office people don't even
look you in the eye anymore.
Banks, garages, supermarkets.
They all make me serve myself.
I don't know.
Sometimes I just feel like I'm a ghost.
Invisible to the world.
When I was in the pharmacy earlier,
I was talking to the
chemist and she said, "Hey",
and we were talking for a bit
while she was getting the prescription,
but then after I bought it,
like, I just I stopped existing.
(Joe chuckles)
You too, eh?
Yeah.
I see you, Dele.
I see you, too, Joe.
- Boo!
- Jesus Christ.
(Joe laughs)
(keys clink)
(Joe laughs)
(Joe sighs)
(Joe chuckles)
Drive, Joe.
What?
Just fucking drive
before I change my mind.
(engine revs)
Where you going?
Fuck!
Fuck!
(birds tweet)
I don't think I want to
feel like this anymore, Joe.
But I don't think I
can do it all on my own
because I don't know how to
be any different to how I am.
But...
How I am means I do all this.
And if I don't have help with that,
I'm just gonna keep going back to
smoking and
CD and cooking up and...
Stuff.
(birds tweet)
- Oh, hey, hey, hey!
- What?
Enough!
What the fuck, man?
You don't need to keep
reaching for stuff like that
when you're feeling hurt.
Or that.
Or this.
(can clinks)
(chuckles)
(laughs)
(birds tweet)
(bottle clinks)
(chuckles) Are you done?
Yeah.
Am I taking you home?
Yeah.
You live far from here?
That depends.
On?
Where the fuck we are right now.
Actually, I don't have a
fucking clue where we are either.
(laughs)
You're only the driver.
(sighs) What will you do?
I don't know if you noticed but I really
didn't think any of this through.
(Joe chuckles)
You're young. You'll figure it out.
I'm not 19, I'm 17.
You're just a kid!
You've got your whole life ahead of you!
Geez.
Back to school, college.
You'll become a hairdresser, a beautician.
Mom was a teacher.
Well, I assume she's
still teaching, though.
Well, there you go.
You'd make a brilliant teacher.
Yeah, I'd teach all
the students how to roll,
how to smoke joints, how to
cook up.
Hot knife resin.
Yeah.
- Maybe how not to.
Who better?
Who better to teach kids
not to take drugs,
than a kid who has?
You know, you've done so much
in your time with so little.
You know, with so little
time, you have done so much.
Now, it doesn't matter what it is!
Fact is, that you have lived
such a life in a short space of time.
And there's no better
teacher to teach kids
not to take drugs than
someone that has stopped
and slayed their dragon.
It's not worth it, though.
I don't think it works like that, though.
I think I just have to
outrun the dragon, I don't...
I don't think you slay it.
What about you?
- Me?
- Mm.
Oh!
I've lived a bit too, you
know? I've had my dragons.
Just took me a little bit longer than you.
What is it they say?
"You can't teach an old dog new tricks."
You're not that old, Joe.
You just need to like shave or
something and have a shower.
- Thanks very much.
- Yeah, you do need to shower.
You wouldn't be that bad, if you did.
You know, say if you...
Shaved, got new clothes,
hair slicked back.
You'd probably be okay looking.
You don't look too bad.
You're old enough to be my daughter.
Jesus!
Granddaughter!
Fuck!
I didn't mean it like that!
What the fuck have I done, Joe?
The right thing.
(chuckles)
Just keep looking that way.
No going backwards. Life
isn't going backwards.
Life's just looking straight ahead.
(car engine roars)
You'll never achieve
anything by going backwards.
Just keep moving forward.
No matter what's behind you,
you just follow the road.
[Adele] All right,
(chuckles) if you can drive.
[Joe] All right,
slowly ease the clutch up
and slowly use the accelerator, yeah.
(engine revs)
Oh, you're not in gear.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
No, put the clutch in.
- Yeah, the clutch is in.
- The clutch is in? Ah.
Right, well, you're in gear.
You've got to start easing the clutch off
as you're touching the accelerator.
All right, ease the clutch
up and wait for power.
There you go, there you go.
All right, come on,
you're doing... (laughs)
[Adele] It's no good, I'm shit!
Hand brake's down, okay.
- Looking good, yeah.
Now slowly ease the clutch up
and ease the accelerator in.
There we go, there we go, there
we go. Yep, yep, yep, yep!
You're doing great. It's the car, honest.
(muffled chatter from radio)
"A Happy Haiku by Del-Icious."
(chuckles) Smart.
Cute. (Chuckles)
"Live life, expect death.
But don't look for love.
Because there is no love left."
13, 14, 15.
Yeah. Yeah, that fits.
(phone rings)
Who the fuck are you and
where are Clarence and Adele?
Where the fuck are they?
(car door slams)
I think you've got the wrong car.
I'm looking for someone.
Two people, actually.
The fact you don't seem too
shocked at me sitting here
makes me think you've seen them.
(muffled chatter from radio)
(paper rustles)
Nah.
I think you've got the wrong car. Sorry.
CD.
Dele.
Dell.
Adele.
Name's ringing any bells for ya?
Because the number that I have
is ringing their fucking phone,
which I just saw you answer.
Yes?
No?
You don't care?
Well, you should fucking
care, because I do.
Do you wanna know why I do?
'Cause they have something
that isn't theirs.
Something I want back.
And I think you know what
that something is, don't you?
And I think, more importantly,
you know where it is.
(mirror creaks)
You're not afraid of me, are ya?
(chuckles) That's okay.
So you've no idea who I
am, so why would you be?
Then again, I have no
idea who you are, either,
so, why don't we keep this amicable?
This is, this is an Opel, right?
An Astra?
What year is it?
'08.
Thought so.
Had one meself back in the early '90s.
Not as nice as this now.
Mark 3 hatchback.
Chocolate brown.
First car.
First deal.
First fuck.
First kill.
Now, talk.
When you're quite ready, of course.
Bypass.
Off the main road, heading north.
Both of them got out.
Go on.
They had a bag of cash,
waving it around the place.
Lad looked like he was hurt.
Like he'd been stabbed or something.
Fucking right he was.
What's your part in all this?
Me?
Nothing.
Climbed in my car outside the post office,
held a knife to my throat
and told me to drive.
(Brian tuts)
A knife?
No class, some people, huh?
Told me not to say anything
and not to go to the guards.
Obviously.
Keep going.
Don't think there's
anything else I can tell you.
Sorry, excuse me.
(Brian chuckles)
Are you some sort of pervert?
Fuck me, this is like a
murderer's do-it-yourself at home kit.
Fucking hell, man.
You sure you're not involved in all this?
(bag zips)
Say, you're not Slasher O'Reilly, are ya?
The local hitman.
He does the odd job for me
every now and again, so he does.
But no one's ever really seen his face.
Or hers.
You know, it could be a woman.
Equal rights and all
that. I'm all for that.
You know, I often find it's the
ones you least expect it be.
Know what I mean?
Aye.
My name's Joe.
Joe Brennan.
Thank fuck for that.
I still owe him money.
Or her.
As I said.
It's nice to meet you, Joe.
I'm Brian.
Back up the main road you say, Joe, yeah?
Yeah, heading north.
Yeah?
I know where they're heading.
I just need to stop them is
all, before they get there.
But you're okay?
- Yeah, yeah. Fine, yeah.
- Yeah?
(phone keypad bleeps)
Good good.
That's good.
(phone rings)
Yeah?
Yeah, it's me.
On the main road, south side.
Are they with him?
No, they're on foot.
(mirror clicks)
No. No, but it...
Just eyes on the fields
and the lanes, right?
Sure, if they have, they're ahead of us,
but we know where they're
going anyway, so, yeah.
Yeah, go on. Do that.
Yeah.
So, are you waiting for someone?
No.
Well, you look like you are.
Sitting here all alone, by yourself.
I mean, you're not eating
anything, or making a call.
You're not reading a newspaper.
You're not tugging at
yourself, clearly, so,
what are you doing here, Joe?
(sighs) It's been an
unusual kind of day, you know?
Just...
Catching my breath.
Yeah, I get that.
I get that.
All right.
Be careful.
Thanks for your time, Joe, yeah?
Yeah, yeah.
(sighs)
(car door slams)
(sighs)
(muffled classic rock music)
Don't you come out that
fuckin' shop, Adele.
Fuck!
How did we get this way
Losing ourselves, losing ourselves
Losing
Sorry. Here, Joe.
[Joe] No, no, that's
not necessary. It's okay.
Take it.
Be assured, when I catch this rat fuck,
he'll be paying me back tenfold.
And the girl?
[Brian] Adele?
Ah. She's a good kid.
She just needs to be
taught a lesson or two.
Anyway, go on, you.
Get you and your murderous
DIY kit out of here, yeah?
(roof clangs)
You're gonna need to
get your hair cut as well.
Hold on.
Where's he going?
He's going back to town.
He's doing a circle.
Seatbelt.
(seat belt clicks)
(engine revs)
Why the fuck would you leave her?
He is, he's heading back into town.
What's he heading back into town for?
[Harrison] Well, maybe
he forgot something.
[Thug] Yeah, probably Adele.
Fucking knew it. I knew
he was fucking lying.
Here.
Here.
Get Brian on the phone. Quick.
(crow caws)
(crow caws)
Fuck.
Where's he gone? Can you see him?
He's fucking here somewhere.
Fuck.
Is he in there? No?
You see him?
- No.
(birds tweet)
(engine revs)
(engine revs)
[Joe] Get in, quick!
(car door opens)
(car door closes)
[Adele] What's going on?
[Joe] They're looking for you.
Okay.
Okay?
Yeah, we knew that.
That's the whole point
why we were running.
What is it?
- They've found you.
- Who?
Brian something or other
in a black car with a...
I don't know how many were in it.
- What'd you tell him?
- What?
What did you tell him, Joe?
Nothing.
I just said you jumped out
of the car, the two of you,
on the motorway, and
you were heading north.
We have to turn around.
No.
No, we have to get CD.
[Joe] No, no. He's finished.
They're gonna hurt him, Joe!
We have to go back and get him!
[Joe] They only want the money.
No, that's not how they work!
They don't think like that.
They're gonna want to teach him a lesson.
They're gonna want to
punish him or kill him.
We have to turn around!
Aye.
He's gonna "hurt him."
"Punish him."
"Kill him."
- Just pull over.
- No.
Pull over, Joe!
(seat belt clicks)
(car chimes)
Look, he's not your problem anymore!
Do you hear me?
Come on, get in!
- You'd do the same, Joe.
That's different.
How is it different?
It is! Because I loved her.
I love him, too.
Do you? Really?
Yeah. Yeah, I really do.
(Joe sighs)
You're just, like, fucking...
You don't even know what love
is! You're just a junkie kid!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Maybe, you know...
Maybe you think you love him!
Christ! Maybe you do actually love him!
But you've got to think of yourself.
Just think of one thing. Think of this.
Does he love you?
Because from what I've seen
and the way he treats you
and speaks to you, I
don't think so, do you?
Well, there's one way to find out.
Get in.
(distant engine hums)
Anything?
[Adele] No, but I don't
think he could've gotten far
in his state.
(sighs) Well, are you sure about this?
Yeah. Thanks, Joe.
(Joe sighs)
Clarence!
CD!
(Joe sighs)
I can only do as she
asks, or she'll run.
She'll just end up back with him anyway
and I'll be the big bad one.
No use trying to make her do otherwise.
You know, she's right.
I would've done the same thing.
(thud)
What the fuck?
Get the fuck out!
(Joe screams)
Get out! Fucking get the fuck out!
CD, Stop!
Stop!
Stop it! Stop!
Don't fucking call me that, yeah?
What the fuck?
Where the fuck is it?
(car door slams)
Where the fuck's my drink?
(muffled yelling)
(brooding electronic music)
(muffled yelling)
(muffled yelling)
You junkie bastard!
Come on! Get in the fucking...
Get in!
(Adele breathes heavily)
(car door closes)
Why, Dele? Huh?
Am I not good enough for
you anymore? Is that it?
Funny fucking way of showing it, yeah?
I came back for you. I'm so sorry!
I was coming down! I was just confused!
You're fucking lying.
No, you didn't come back for me, did ya?
You came back for the money, didn't you?
No, I love you so much.
You came back for the money, didn't you?
Didn't you?
- It's not even my money, CD!
Why would I come back for it?
- Don't lie to me.
Don't fucking lie to me!
(yelling and screaming)
(electronic music intensifies)
(muffled yelling)
(car door slams)
It's over! Finished!
Brian's found you!
He's in a black car!
Get out of the car.
[Clarence] Fuck.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
(muffled chatter)
You're really that
fucking desperate, are you?
Just let Adele go. She's just a kid.
You're gonna get the pair of you killed.
What, and end up like
a sad fucker like you?
What do you want? Do you
want four or five grand?
10 minutes up the road.
- Where?
- Garage.
ATM just there.
Well, I'm fucking driving, yeah?
Get in!
(car whooshes)
(car whooshes)
Can you please tell me what's going on?
I thought we were heading north.
The old man wants to
pay me to let you go home.
(sighs)
Why would he do that?
(chuckles) Well, he thinks
you'd be better off without me.
Are you gonna fucking take it?
Too fucking right I am.
But, I don't wanna go home!
He doesn't know what
he's talking about, CD!
He's just confused. He doesn't know us.
Yeah, and what about me?
What about you?
Well, would I be better off without you?
I mean, what?
More money for myself? More
drugs and drink and then women?
Don't do that, CD.
I'd do anything for you.
Well, it's the fucking truth, isn't it?
I mean, look at all the mess
that you've fucking caused, Dele.
We don't need his money.
We can just go north.
We can stick to the plan. We have enough!
No, no, no. He, he owes me.
I was the one who
asked him to drive away.
It was my fault.
Well, then you fucking owe me!
All right? Enough is never enough.
See that money out there?
I could turn it into a 10,
20 grand. Easy, easy money.
(sighs)
(Brian laughs)
Geez, I hope I'm not interrupting you.
Only, I could hear your
domestic from the carriageway.
You weren't thinking of
running from me again,
were you, Clarence?
Were you, Clarence?
- No, no, I was just-
Ah, good good. Good, yeah.
Getting a bit sick and tired
of this hide-and-seek shit.
Know what I mean?
Get in the back.
Not that way.
(Clarence sighs)
The other way! Get in the back that way.
(Clarence groans)
(chuckles)
(car door slams)
What happened to you?
Come here to me.
Come here to me!
(Clarence groans)
What happened to you, huh?
(laughs)
I did. I fucking happened to you.
(sighs)
(Clarence breathes heavily)
No.
You took something else of mine.
Good. Good man.
Good man.
Good knives aren't cheap, lads, you know?
[Clarence] How, how'd you find us?
Find ya?
I never lost you, Clarence.
I knew your plan.
I knew who you were meeting and when.
You notice the past tense?
[Clarence] How?
How?
We're sorry.
Is that all you have to ask me, yeah?
That's it, after
everything that's happened?
Everything you've put me through!
That's all you have to ask me, huh?
Not "How was your day?" Huh?
"How are you?" Huh?
Ask me how it felt to
be betrayed, Clarence.
Ask me!
- How did it feel?
- It fucking hurts!
And you.
You ask me how it felt being hit
over the fucking head with a spanner.
Go on, ask me.
- How did it feel?
- It fucking hurt!
Of course it fucking hurts!
And I got blood all over the office floor!
It's not like I can ask the cleaners
to clean that shit up, you know!
Huh? And where did the fucking
spanner come from anyways?
We brought it with us.
You don't fucking say!
Here's me thinking it was a fuckin',
someone using a bleeding pencil.
We're really sorry, Brian.
(Brian sighs)
Sorry, huh?
Sorry for what?
Sorry you stole me money?
You didn't realize, did
you, when you picked it up,
and ran after smashing me
over the back of the head?
Maybe you're sorry you kidnapped poor Joe,
dragged him halfway across
the fucking country.
Huh? Was that an accident, too?
You just fell into the car,
the knife landed near his neck?
Fucking sorry.
Jesus.
(mirror creaks)
I'm actually surprised
you made it this far.
Proper little goer these things, huh?
Ah, here he is. The man of the hour.
Get in, please, Joseph!
Get in!
Good man.
Now, isn't this very nice, huh?
(chuckles)
(keys clink)
[Joe] Turn the key at the side there.
Ah.
Yeah. Okay, yeah, it's been awhile.
Too long, really.
(keys clink)
(car starts)
(engine revs)
Oh-ho-ho-ho!
Still life in the old dog yet, Joe, huh?
[Joe] You'd be surprised.
Very deceptive.
I'm not really used to
driving stick anymore.
And away we go.
(engine revs)
(rapid thuds)
(engine revs)
(keys clink)
Fuck that. Here, Joe.
Jump in the front here. You do it, yeah?
Let's go.
(sighs) Fucking hell.
(grunts)
- In your own time.
- (sighs) Fucking hell.
(grunts)
(sighs) Are you okay?
Are you?
Aye.
(mirror creaks)
[Brian] Now, isn't this very nice, huh?
Let's go.
Strap yourselves in.
Yeah.
(seat belts click)
That's it.
Now.
(rapid thuds)
Right.
(car starts)
And away we go!
(birds tweet)
[Joe] So, Brian, where are we going?
Somewhere away from phones.
People.
Prying eyes.
But you'll be fine,
Joe. Don't worry, yeah?
But you, on the other hand.
You're gonna wish your dad
cum all over your ma's tits
the day you were conceived.
And you.
Haven't decided yet.
I thought we had an agreement?
Agreement?
Did you fucking sell us out, old man?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
Enough!
Do you want your mystery
tour or to just die now?
(chuckles) You choose.
(Clarence breathes heavily)
Jesus!
I think you're gonna
need some new seat covers
back here, Joseph.
(coughs)
Oh! (Laughs)
If looks could kill, CD, huh? Huh?
We agreed him, not her.
- Fuck you, all right?
- You don't get to hurt her!
- I will fucking kill you!
- I told you once already!
(grunts and groans)
(Clarence sobs)
Fuck. Have you anything to say?
What I fuckin' thought.
(objects rattle)
(Clarence groans)
(chuckles)
A proper little bag of
tricks this. Eh, Joseph?
Huh? Or should I just call you Slasher?
(tape tears)
(tape tears)
(Clarence moans)
You shouldn't have done that, Joe.
I had to do something.
Yeah, but you fucking
killed us all, you know that?
You and your fuckin'...
(Clarence grunts)
Now, that should stop you yapping!
(bag zips)
Now, sorry about that.
(mirror creaks)
(sighs)
No respect, some people.
(sighs)
(car whooshes)
(car whooshes)
Right.
So, here's what I was thinking, right?
You do him,
and maybe I won't do her.
What you think?
I have money.
I was gonna give it to
him if you didn't show up.
What?
It's okay. It's okay, Adele.
I can take care of this.
It's okay.
I don't want your money, Joe.
Now, I might take your
car, but not your money.
Keep that.
I'm not the bad guy
here, Joe. Remember that.
Now, come on. Out.
(car doors slam)
Wait there.
You still got it now.
(grunts) Still got it, kid, huh?
All fighting over ya.
(tape tears)
All fighting over ya, aren't they?
I don't see the attraction, personally.
(car door closes)
Come over here.
Come with me.
Stay right there.
Let's go, CD!
Let's go, you fucker.
Let's go. Get down.
(Clarence grunts)
(breathes heavily)
Now.
You remember this?
Huh?
Come on, take it. Take the fucking knife.
Get on your knees.
On your fucking knees!
Do it.
(Clarence sobs)
Now.
Just at the ear, right?
Actually, wait. Wait, wait, wait.
Stand up.
Get up.
Wait right there. I've
got something for ya.
No fucking movements.
This is fun, isn't it? Huh?
(laughs)
(car door slams)
(Clarence breathes heavily)
Now.
(tape tears)
(keys clink)
Go on, go on.
(Clarence grunts)
(car starts)
(thud)
(groans)
[Adele] Get in!
(Brian groans)
Get the fuck in the back!
(Brian groans)
(car doors slam)
(car starts)
(Brian grunts)
Fuckers!
(car whooshes)
[Joe] Right turn. That's far enough.
[Clarence] What the fuck, old man?
[Adele] Oh, my god.
Adele! No, whoa, whoa!
We can fix this!
I don't want your help!
She doesn't fucking want your
help, old man, do you hear?
'Cause she's addicted. She's confused!
She's a damn addict!
And that's because of you.
Now, out the fucking car!
What?
(breathes heavily)
If I get out of the car,
I'm a dead man anyway.
You ever killed a man Joe? Have you?
I can honestly say, hand on heart,
that I haven't and I
don't want to start now.
Then don't do this.
But, I know a man who has,
and we can sit here until
he catches up with us,
if you like.
Fine.
(sighs)
(car door opens)
Talk to him, would you?
(car door slams)
Just get out of the car,
Joe. Get out of the car.
I can't help you after this.
Please get out of the car.
Please get out of the car.
(Joe breathes deeply)
Please get out of the car.
I'm trying to help you!
Don't you get that?
All I'm trying to do is to help
you make the right choices.
Get you on the right track.
It's just not your fucking
decision, though, is it?
No.
(locks clack)
(locks clack)
Joe!
(door handle rattles)
We don't have fucking time for this, Joe!
Fucking find something
to break the window with!
(paper rustles)
(Joe whispers to himself)
Fuck you.
(rustling)
Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa!
You can take it! You can have it!
No more cruelty! (Screams)
Get out!
[Adele] Enough, CD. Enough.
Enough! Leave him.
Leave him.
(car door slams)
(Clarence spits)
(car door slams)
[Joe] Adele! Adele, my pills!
My heart pills! Please, Adele!
(groans)
[Clarence] Come on, hurry up!
Come on, Dele!
(Joe wheezes)
(pills rattle)
Come on, Dele!
One fucking second.
(car door opens)
(car door slams)
Here, you can keep this
silly bitch, too, yeah?
(car starts)
(engine revs)
We fucking did it, Dele!
(chuckles)
What?
What is it?
Dele, what's wrong?
I think I want to go home now, CD.
What?
But we fucking did it.
We got all the money.
All the fucking money, Dele!
- It's all your fucking money.
- So fucking what?
You said back there, you came
back for me, you loved me.
I really thought you
were gonna kill me, CD.
[Clarence] Fuck it.
(breathes heavily)
I'm not afraid anymore.
(car door opens)
- Fucking go.
Go back to him if that's
what you really want!
I don't fucking need you!
[Adele] I don't need you, Clarence.
- Yeah, well fucking go.
- I don't need anybody!
You'll be back! You
always fucking come back.
(pills rattle)
(bag zips)
(birds tweet)
(handbrake clicks)
(car door slams)
(bag unzips)
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the...
Fucking Joe.
(car door slams)
What?
(plastic rustles)
(gasps)
What the fuck?
Adele.
(breathes heavily)
Come on, Adele.
Answer the phone.
Answer the phone, Adele.
(phone rings)
(birds tweet)
(muffled electronic music)
(paper rustles)
(paper rustles)
Come on, Adele.
Answer the phone.
Answer the phone, Adele.
Answer the fucking phone!
(funky electronic music)
(Brian sighs)
What the fuck?
(plastic rustles)
Oh, Jesus!
(groans)
(laughs)
Sick fucker.
(breathes heavily)
Still plenty of room for two, CD.
Come on.
Fucker.
- No, no, no.
(coughs and gasps)
No hanky panky in there, you hear?
(trunk slams)
(Clarence pants)
(birds tweet)
[Reporter] Garda
investigating the disappearance
of seven young women
over the past five months
have arrested a man in his 40s.
The investigation into
the missing women began
after a body was discovered
in a shallow grave
at a cemetery in Boola County, Cork.
The body was discovered
by a local groundsman
who alerted Garda.
Garda said the man was arrested
at a routine check point
where Garda carried out
a search of his vehicle
after he began acting suspiciously.
The remains of two bodies were discovered
in the boot of the car,
along with items believed
to be linked to the missing women.
The man is currently being detained
at Williams Brooke Garda Station
under section four of
the Criminal Justice Act.
The suspect can be questioned
for up to 24 hours,
after which, he must be charged
or released from custody.
Garda are again urging young
women to remain vigilant
and not to walk alone in isolated areas.
A Garda spokesperson has
revealed to reporters
that they believe a
second person is involved
in the disappearances
of the seven young women
and are following a line of inquiry
to apprehend the suspect.
(Joe laughs)
[Joe] Don't sell me a dog.
If I met Maggie in the woods,
upon me soul I'd do her good
If I met Maggie in the woods
I'd keep her there till morning
(jaunty folk music)
If I met Maggie in the woods,
upon me soul I'd do her good
If I met Maggie in the woods
I'd squeeze her auld malogen
