Everlasting (2016) Movie Script

Come!
Catch me!
Mr. Roland...
there's a buzzing sound.
Okay...
Quiet, please!
- All right, quiet down, everybody.
- Oh, it makes sense.
Shh.
All right, everyone, quiet down.
Shh.
Quiet.
All right.
I don't care if anyone has to
go to the bathroom, all right?
We're just trying to wrap
things up here.
Um, wait, we need
a little bit more light.
Can you open
those up a little bit?
Yeah, that's perfect.
You ready?
Okay.
And...
Hey, my name is Matt Ortega.
I go to Cliff Ridge High School
here in Colorado,
and this is my senior project.
Shh.
Good, good, camera good?
Sound good?
All right...
this is what we call
IDing your film, all right?
It's expected of everybody at
the beginning of their project.
You can read more
about it in the handout.
I expect it from every video,
no exceptions.
And remember...
be genuine.
Be truthful.
Okay?
What are you doin'?
You look pretty
wicked right now.
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
Show me a couple poses.
Oops.
This film is about
Jessie Martell,
who used to be my girlfriend.
It's also about how darkness
can take over your life.
Even when you think
you have it under control.
It didn't start this way.
It was gonna be just
about me and Jessie...
and our trip to L.A.
Cool.
Well, Jessie.
What about that?
Oh...
it's a...
Look up.
That was a great movie.
That was good.
As much as I'd like to say
it's a happy-go-lucky film...
it's not.
About two days ago...
I received this packet.
Inside, there was a DV tape...
and a note.
It said, "Leonerd Sawyar."
Underneath that...
the freaky drawing of an eye...
and the words "the end."
This is the DV tape.
This tape shows most of
what happened to Jessie.
If I were to run it all right now,
she'd be another face, another name.
She'd just be like any other
story you might have heard.
But you wouldn't know the girl.
So I wanna start
at the beginning.
It seemed that before
her folks split up,
she was happy.
That's when they
lived in Empire.
She's always smiling,
goofing around.
Then her dad left...
and everything got screwed up.
Not just Jessie, but her mom.
She's always drinking.
Their place is a mess.
I didn't like to go there much.
Even when her mom tried to do
something nice for her birthday,
it was a complete disaster.
This is for you...
and for me.
Cake in my.
Blow it out.
I already did, like three times.
Shit!
Happy birthday to you.
When I first got to know Jessie,
things were simpler.
It was just the two of us playing
stupid, creepy hide-and-seek.
Well?
Are you coming or are
you just gonna stand there?
This is our shortcut
from school.
They tell you never to take the
shortcut because it's dangerous.
I don't believe
in that kinda shit.
We're just a bunch of
irresponsible thrill-seekers.
Yep.
We're playing with fire,
just waiting to get in trouble.
That's us.
My mom says...
we're just asking for it.
Asking for it!
I don't believe in
that kinda shit either.
Woo hoo!
Come on, you stupid psychopaths!
Crazy serial killer!
Freak motherfuckers!
What are you waiting for?
Oh shit.
No fucking way.
There's probably some...
old dude sitting in his car
right now thinking...
"Should I chop them up?"
"Should I...
kidnap 'em first...
and lock 'em up?"
Do you see that in your mind?
Oh yeah.
He'd probably kill me first.
I'd be stabbed...
everywhere...
blood all over.
And then he'd come after you.
And then?
And then we'd both
be dismembered.
Heads...
feet...
hands.
We'd be chopped up
into little pieces.
But, in a weird way,
we'd be together.
Really?
Cool.
That's January 2nd.
On May 16th, last year,
I drove with Jessie to L.A.
Three months later,
she was dead.
When I went to the funeral,
Becky and Mikey
from school were there.
Plus, of course...
Wren Meyer and Liz Gaines.
These are the girls that
she used to smoke with.
That was their kinship,
or something like that.
I know deep down
they looked up to her.
Jessie loved you very much.
You know that, right?
- I know.
- Yeah?
I can't say why
people didn't come.
I think they got the wrong idea about
Jessie and what she'd been up to.
Oh my God.
Maybe they felt ashamed,
I don't know.
But I wasn't.
I just thought of
her like always.
Yeah.
Hey, handsome.
You comin' over to say hi to me?
Here, let me give this
to someone else.
Those were the good times.
Just crazy and...
fun, for the most part.
Except for when Wren,
who had a crush on Jessie,
got all heavy.
The day she found out
that Jess was leaving...
well, everything...
blew up.
I don't know what to say.
What do you want me to say?
Come on,
you can do better than that.
If you love that guy so much,
why are you leaving your man?
Bullshit, Wren, she
doesn't have to answer that.
- Hey.
- No, it's okay.
I think I'm going because...
it's what I've
always wanted to do.
You know, just...
check it out.
Hey,
it's L.A., isn't that
reason enough?
But...
I guess the real
reason is that...
it's easier to leave
the people you love...
before they leave you.
And those words said it all.
It wasn't about me, Mikey,
or Wren and Liz.
Jess was dealing
with something deeper.
It was pushing her away...
some place darker.
And, in a way, you could see
she was feeding into it.
When news came out about what
happened to Jessie, the police did nothing.
Four months passed...
and there's nothing
to show for it.
Not one thing.
When the case went cold,
I started the blog.
At the time, I didn't
know what else to do.
I had to do something.
In the beginning, the newspapers were
writing all kinds of stuff about the case.
But then, after a while,
you didn't hear anything, like...
it never happened.
For Jessie's mom...
I think that the blog helped 'cause she
could see that there were people who cared.
All the leads I got were pure crap up until
two days ago when the package arrived.
And, at first, I thought I should
turn it over to the cops, of course.
But, then, as I looked
at the legal possibilities...
I realized that
nothing would happen.
Person responsible would
go to jail and then what?
Nothing.
There would be no justice.
You like my camera?
It's part of my class.
Well, it's very
professional looking.
That's because I'm professional.
Oh really?
Really!
Here it goes.
That's actually pretty cool.
Woo hoo!
Woo!
Whoa!
You okay?
Yeah, I'm fine.
I've always loved doing that.
I don't know why.
It's just so fun.
It's like...
you know, kinda like I'm flying.
Like I'm free.
Free from rules.
Free from school and what
people think I'm supposed to be.
Just free!
- Blink.
- One, two, three.
I love it here.
It's my favorite spot.
Um...
my mom has some rum,
maybe some OJ.
And that's it?
Mm,
think maybe some...
half-and-half
and cranberry juice.
That's gross.
You're gross.
You know mom says I'm not supposed to
be dressin' like this when I go to school.
Sends the wrong signal.
I don't deserve
this probably, right?
So quick to agree.
Surprising.
You know, I surprise
myself every day.
No, just so you know...
I actually didn't
finish that because
I think when my mom
is saying all that...
she's talking about
most students.
You know, most young girls.
Thing is...
I'm not like most students.
I mean, somebody
has to be different.
Our school, for the most part...
it's pretty uptight,
don't you agree?
Obviously.
That's the consensus of almost
every person on the planet.
Okay, so let's get
to the more basic,
like every day kind of stuff.
For example...
take a look at my choker.
It's kind of sexy, I know.
Maybe too much for some.
But, hey...
it's a choker, and I like it.
I like the pressure on my neck.
Do you really
think I can do that?
That I can...
tone it down?
I mean, maybe.
I guess I could.
No.
No way.
Really?
I think Jessie Martell does
whatever the hell she wants.
And that's it.
About two weeks ago, I started
having some random stuff happen to me.
The built-in camera
on my laptop...
lit up by itself.
That's pretty weird, right?
Made me feel like
someone was watching me.
Second thing that happened
was I searched my name,
and, normally, what pops up is
like social network, normal shit.
But this time,
my name and address were
repeatedly being highlighted.
So it was obvious that
somebody was trying to track me.
And when I got the packet,
I guess that person
had found me.
Seven months later,
I'm getting ready to do it again,
but this time, I'm by myself.
Here you go, Jessie,
this one's for you.
See that?
Not the best day
for a road trip,
but it's now or never.
By the time you see this,
most of you will already know who I am.
But for those of you
who are seeing this
for the first time,
my name is Matt Ortega.
Like Mr. Roland said,
"Beginning, middle, and end."
If it was up to me, I'd go right
to the end and get this over with.
So here it goes.
These are my folks.
And this is my house.
For the record, Matt promised
he'd throw out the trash.
Get on it.
This is our dog Buddy.
Buddy is very loyal,
and that's what
makes him the best.
I don't think they've
done it yet, but it's coming
and she's way
ahead of him, so...
He doesn't know what to do.
I don't know how much, you know.
I really, really.
You were supposed
to be helping me.
Remember our deal?
I let you use the car
if you help me clean it.
This is part of
my school project.
Um, Dad, can you loosen up?
Close your eyes.
Okay, now smile.
And then look up at me.
My dad is a good guy,
and he works really hard.
And, like most parents, he asks me
obvious questions about life and school
that I don't really
wanna answer.
Like, sometimes,
stuff about Jessie.
I don't think either of them were happy
about Jessie and I being together.
For them, she was trouble,
they knew that.
So, in the end,
they kinda left us alone.
No.
I don't wanna.
You don't wanna have sex?
You do wanna have sex?
But you don't want
me to kiss you?
Yeah.
Is that okay?
But that's not normal.
What's normal?
Look, just...
put your hand right here.
- Now fuck me.
- Stop!
This is weird.
- No.
- Yes.
Just kiss me.
Hit me.
Hit me!
Will you stop this?
Oh, just do it, I like it.
You like it?
Yeah, I don't always want
it to be so lovey-dovey.
That's just how I
feel right now, okay?
Look, it's just make-believe.
You're so weird.
But that's why you love me.
Just say it.
Say it!
Piece of shit.
Whore.
Fuck, Matt.
Fuck, Matt!
Oh, Matt, I love you.
It wasn't like we were
having sex all the time.
Maybe once, twice a day.
But what I remember most
was just that feeling,
that something wasn't right.
Can you just be careful
with that thing, please?
'Cause I told Mr. Roland I
was gonna be responsible.
Look, do you want
everything to be about me?
Someday, you're gonna be like,
"Man, I was kinda cute."
Did you just say kinda?
I didn't wanna be
obvious about it.
Plus, you're not just cute.
I wouldn't want my
man to be just cute.
My man?
Nice.
You like that, huh?
It's the second time for me.
A day doesn't pass
that I don't wonder,
would she still be here if I
hadn't driven her down there?
When you look at the
name Leonerd Sawyar,
certain letters were darker.
If you line 'em up...
it spells Leor Sawa.
I looked up the name.
What came up...
was pure evil.
This freak murdered a bunch
of people in Canada...
got locked up in juvenile,
but somehow was released.
Then, back in '82, he was arrested
again with some dude named Barski
for murdering three coeds from the
Washington State Theater School.
He plea-bargained as
a witness against Barski...
and was put into a
witness protection program.
It says here his
identity was changed,
and information regarding his release
was not formally shared with the public.
You see this blade?
It's pretty sweet, right?
Well, uh...
my uncle says that it's...
protection or it...
it keeps me safe or somethin',
I don't know.
But the mistake that people
make is they think that...
because this is not very big,
it's not a machete, that it's not
gonna cause too much damage.
But it will.
Drive sucked a little bit,
it was pretty cold.
But, other than that,
I got here safe and stuff, so...
I guess it's all right.
Well, that's good to hear.
Now, son...
I know you got this, but...
when you get down to L.A.,
try to do your best and call us.
Please take care of yourself.
All right?
Yeah.
It just sucked, you know,
'cause I was like losing her.
And she was...
she was goin' away.
And then as soon as...
I was hoping that...
that when she would go down there,
you know, that things wouldn't work out.
And that maybe we could
be together in some way.
Because I really...
I really thought
that at the end of...
I thought that at the end of things
that it was just gonna be her and I.
That right?
She was the most beautiful
girl in the world.
When I see those
other pictures or video,
it's just make-believe.
And this is us tryin'
to get to Red Cliff.
Except we didn't get
very far, did we, Matt?
You know, it could help
if you got a flatter rock.
Here ya go.
So, Matt, looks like you, uh,
got some sort of
special technique there.
What do you call that?
Um,
this is called the
Let's Hope It Works.
All right.
Right on, Matt!
Woo hoo!
We are now officially unstuck.
See, Matt, this is amazing.
That's the thing
about this world.
It's all here for the taking.
You just have to try.
Jessie, don't talk
to me like that.
What do you mean?
Don't talk to me like that.
- Like what?
- Like...
as if I lack ambition or I don't
get it when, in reality, it's you.
You don't have to
get upset with me.
Well, I'm not trying to.
Some people actually have
to work and go to school.
Well, I guess you've
got it all figured out then.
Yay!
Excellente, Mr. Matt.
Can you hear that?
I can hear the wind.
Some birds.
It's incredible.
Thank you so much
for taking me here.
I wanted to.
You know...
I...
wanted to...
What?
We're gonna be okay.
You can always come visit me.
Yeah, and you can
always come visit me.
I will.
Honestly, Jessie, you
shouldn't be going there.
And I think you know that, too.
Hello, Mr. Matt.
What ya doin' over there?
You whittlin'?
Can I talk to you
about something?
Yeah.
You know...
I don't tell you...
what to do...
or what to say...
or where to go.
I don't.
I'm not.
Then what's your problem?
My problem is
that I'm pissed off
that you're moving,
and I'm gonna miss you.
I'm going to miss you...
so much.
Do you get that?
We're gonna do this my way.
Okay.
And I need you to know
that I love you.
I know you do.
And I don't wanna hit you.
I don't like that.
Okay.
And I don't want
anyone hitting you.
Do you understand?
Yes.
Good.
Ready, Freddy.
In the end...
we are all just regular people.
We are all the same.
But we've got to
do things right.
And what happened
to Jessie wasn't right.
Jessie's body had been
dumped in the morning,
right next to the road.
Just like when people throw away stuff
that they want the city to pick up.
There was just garbage
and crap everywhere.
The coroner said that she'd
been strangled with something,
that she had struggled.
There was a lot of other
stuff that happened to Jessie.
I can't talk about it right now.
So how does this all work?
How do rapists, serial killers,
and pedophiles
get released into
society every day?
This sick fuck started
when he was young.
Same old story.
Spent some time in juvie,
then he was out again.
When he got out...
he killed a whole family.
But first he raped and
tortured the children.
This guy murdered
his classmate in France.
He then decided to eat her.
They said he was mental,
so they sent him back home to Holland.
Afterward, he was let go.
He's free to this day.
Not only do they get out,
but then they have
their own websites.
They sell their art,
and they make it seem like
they are the victims.
This guy killed a
seven-year-old girl.
He was sentenced
to death 15 years ago,
but the state law changed.
He's now a free man.
Makes no fuckin' sense.
This is for you, Mr. Roland.
I would like to thank you
for letting me check the camera out
as many times as I did.
You always asked us to
be honest and genuine.
This is me trying my hardest.
So thank you.
So, I'm sorry,
I'm a little lost.
I... I can't find my hotel
because I'm not from here.
- Your hotel?
- Yeah.
How long you here for?
- A couple days.
- A couple days?
- Yeah, well, more like one day.
- You've gotta stay longer.
A day, it's nothing in Vegas.
What's around here?
I don't understand
why you had to ask her.
There were plenty
of people around.
- You could've asked anybody.
- She was standing right there.
Did you enjoy flirting with her?
What?
Is that how it's going to be?
You're the one who
flirts with everybody.
No, I don't, I don't do
it right in front of you.
- So you do it behind my back?
- No, that's not what I'm saying.
Then what are you saying?
I don't know, I... you know...
you just really piss me off.
This is the agency ad
that Jessie answered.
She sent them her pictures,
and they loved them.
She could model,
make money, live in Hollywood.
It was a dream
come true for Jessie.
I didn't know who this
Christiane or Maurice were...
but it just didn't
seem real to me.
Ta da!
Finally.
Check the back?
- Yes.
- Your cell?
Where's my cell?
Oh...
found it.
Well, hello there.
Nice of you to join us.
What brings you here?
I'm actually here
to see Maurice.
My name is Jessie.
We just got in from Colorado.
You're a model, right?
Yes, I am.
Love the choker.
Thank you.
And you are?
Model's boyfriend.
All right, let's see
what we can do.
Follow me.
And this...
is Ashley.
If you're very, very bad,
he might give you an interview.
Have you seen Christiane around?
Hello...
I'm Christiane.
Hi, it's nice to meet you.
You look more natural
than in the pictures.
I love your nose.
You must be Matt.
Well, we've been expecting you.
Let's put your bags away.
Follow me.
I think you'll
really love it here.
People are warm and open-minded.
Hello.
Hi.
Hello.
Welcome.
Make yourself at home.
Those are all your bags?
You travel light.
Uh, we have some
more in the car.
I see.
Who's that?
- It's Rocky.
- Come in.
- You all right?
- Yes, everything just fine.
- I'll see you in a bit.
- Okay.
Oh, this is Matt.
This is Jessie.
Matt, Jessie.
- Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.
- I'll see you later.
- Okay.
Protection.
Matt, be cool.
This is fucking insane.
That afternoon was a blur.
We had drinks and
hung out by the pool.
Christiane introduced
us to her partner Maurice.
It was like we were in some
crazy-ass cartoon or something.
They made it sound like
Jessie was on easy street.
- Hey, Matt.
- Hey.
She already had two bookings.
- It was all so quick.
- Wow, look at her.
You new in town?
I am. I'm from
Colorado actually.
Well, you two have
to be best friends.
She's one of my favorites.
All right, which one of you
had the, uh, roofies?
- Uh, that would be her.
- Okay, yeah.
- That's what I thought. I'm kidding.
- I love roofies.
You didn't think I
was serious, did you?
She is going to do so well.
She's got something in her eyes,
beautiful smile, great vibe.
You put all of it together...
well...
she could go the distance.
She talk to you at
all about what I do?
- Um.
- I was telling her.
- Yeah.
- Kind of.
I mean, I make art,
I'm an artist.
- You know?
- He's brilliant.
Thank you.
You are.
But I want it to be beautiful, you know?
I want my art to be beautiful.
Yeah.
And I think you can bring
beauty to my art.
You know, your
girlfriend's really sexy.
Thank you.
So are you.
Thank you for saying that.
I'm not just saying that,
I mean it.
I knew right from the start...
there was this...
connection.
Because people need to...
to dream.
They need to...
to imagine.
That's what I say.
Yeah,.
It's like a moving picture show.
Dreams can...
they can loop around
and around in your head.
And we're attracted to it.
Yeah, we're attracted to that.
It's like a...
it's kinda like a golden light.
It drives us...
until we make it...
a reality.
Most people think that's crazy...
but it's not.
I don't think
that's crazy at all.
Neither do I.
You know, you just
have to stay focused.
How?
Well...
you gotta believe it.
Well say something.
Okay.
How did you like the trip?
It was fun.
Actually...
it was...
amazing.
I'll always remember this.
Forever.
Forever?
Not just the trip.
Like, I'll always
remember you and me.
And everything that
we've been through.
So, yeah...
forever.
Wherever we are,
it doesn't matter.
We're always together, right?
Hey...
that Christiane.
How crazy was that?
I couldn't believe
what she was saying.
It's like she wouldn't stop.
I mean, how many times
do you have to say no?
Like fifty million.
And even that's not enough.
I love you.
Love you, too.
Here you go.
Thanks.
Well, we better get goin'.
Okay.
After I left L.A.,
we took a break.
I just wanted her
to do her thing.
And...
that she did.
I like the pressure on my neck.
I fuckin' love it.
Fuckin' love it.
All right, let's get
you over here.
Oh yeah.
Let's get you over here.
All right, face me a little bit.
Yeah, there ya go, good.
Good.
Good.
Stick it out.
Yeah, that's it.
Can you squat?
Okay, this is what I wanna do.
Just...
keep that wide, yeah.
Keep that wide, yeah.
All right.
Open your mouth, baby.
Yeah.
Okay, this is gonna be like,
be like, yeah,
that's it, that's it.
Yeah.
Got it? Okay, good.
Keep it open.
Can I close my mouth now?
No, no, no, keep it open.
It's really sexy.
Okay, can you stand up?
What's your name?
Uh, it's Lacey,
and, actually, I just turned 18.
I got this as a present.
You like it?
Yeah, I like it.
It's not your
birthday suit, though.
That's what you have
when you take that off.
You're funny.
Yeah, you think so?
You think I'm funny?
What are you?
Are you sassy?
You're a fighter?
Like to fight?
Yeah, I can be a real prick, too.
You wanna see that?
Not really.
I mean, I guess you
kind of have to be, right?
You don't wanna
get walked all over.
Everybody likes a little fight.
- Oh really?
- Yeah.
Otherwise, it's no fun.
Nice.
That's it.
You got a boyfriend out here?
Um, yeah,
he's in Colorado.
What's he think about all this?
I'm not sure.
As for her pictures...
that didn't bother me.
In fact, they were good.
It was more about the people
she was hanging out with.
I didn't like any of them.
They were just...
so fake.
So she was working?
Yes, she was, at first.
Then we started getting
offers from our, uh...
older and more
established clients.
She wasn't into it.
So...
there wasn't much we could do.
What kind of offers?
Well, you know...
harder stuff.
All right.
When Jessie first got here,
you called her a few times,
looking for her,
and, uh...
well, she, uh...
she never got the messages.
Why didn't she get
those messages?
I'm telling you, I'm very sorry
about what happened to Jessie.
Okay?
But I'm trying to be
straight with you here,
doing you a favor.
I don't need you to start
freaking out on me.
You know, every day
so many girls come here
from buses and trains
and wherever the fuck.
And most of them know they have
to do whatever it takes to make it.
Some of the girls get it quick,
and some don't.
Jessie sent us, uh, her
photos and wrote us...
and how she wasn't
shy and she was...
she was free.
But when it came down to it...
she was just this little girl.
It's all the same shit.
They build you up
and then they tear you down.
Then people act like they
never knew that person.
It is all bullshit.
In this case, people
knew about Jessie
and what happened to her.
I met her on a photo shoot,
and...
I just worked with
her that one day.
I don't make it a point
to know their names
or know much about them.
What I can tell you...
is that she was sweet.
So we are here with Lacey,
who is the new it girl on the block.
- Thanks for takin' the time.
- No prob.
Uh, so let's start
with the basics, right?
First off, look at you,
you look stunning.
Mm hmm, thank you.
For sure.
Oh, thank you so much.
You're welcome.
Looks like you are
really keeping busy.
- Yeah, I am.
- Seems like you fit right in.
Yeah, I mean, the
outfits are really sexy
and the pictures are super cute.
So tell me about this layout.
Uh, well, we are doing
a whole punk rock thing
mixed with a 1940s vibe.
It's super cool.
One way or another, there's
always a damsel in distress,
which is me.
I know that you're
gettin' tied up.
You know, I do, I get tied up,
and people love it.
So it kinda makes me feel...
normal, in a way.
And you get to have all
these beautiful friends with you.
Exactly.
Any other news?
Just try to keep busy and, uh,
just saving up some money
so I can go home for a while
just to check up on some things.
You miss back home?
There is someone that...
I miss a lot.
But you are coming back, right?
- I will.
- I mean, you promise.
I promise.
This was the last time
that I talked to Jessie.
It wasn't in person.
But it was good.
We should talk when
I get home, okay?
It's cool out here and all.
But...
there are...
a lot of freaks.
I don't know.
It's just, like...
everyone's got an angle.
You know, like everyone's
telling me to do this or that.
Well, if it doesn't
feel right, don't do it.
Don't listen to them, okay?
Well...
it's not easy when you're
like this pathetic moth...
in front of this bright light.
It, it's just not.
Hey...
thanks for the advice.
And...
just...
do me a favor...
just...
don't make me look like a dork.
That trip.
I was such a mess.
I got all mad when
I shouldn't have.
And I'm sorry.
Don't worry...
I'll be cool.
You know, Jessie...
you don't have to stay in L.A.
Just come home.
I love you, Matt.
I love you, too, Jessie.
Bye.
Her Honda had been abandoned
in a motel parking lot.
She was supposed to do a photo shoot
three days earlier, but she didn't show up.
Her agency thought she flaked
and didn't report her missing.
This is the room where
Jessie was staying.
Christiane, the lady
from the agency,
said that Jessie got pissed
and bailed from the place.
My mom says...
we're just asking for it.
Asking for it.
Come catch me, come
catch me, come catch me.
I love you, Matt.
Ever since I got the package,
it's been hard to keep
everything in check.
All I had to go on was a frame
that I pulled from the tape.
As I look at everything
in this room...
all I keep thinking
about is Jessie.
And now...
somehow these memories...
they're all getting
mixed up together.
I feel terrible about what
happened to your girl.
It's really, really hard
for me to talk about.
She was sweet...
but broken.
She is going to do so well.
Man, I don't concern myself
with what other people are doing.
My focus is mainly
on what I'm doing.
I don't have time
for that other shit.
I take pictures, okay?
That's what I do.
Some people like my shit,
some don't.
It's not my problem.
How the hell did
all of this happen?
I wish that I could say her dad
and I were better, but we weren't.
Still, Jessie had to
know that I loved her.
She had to know that.
She did. She knew that.
She talked about you all the time.
She didn't have to go.
How are things going for you?
No one wants to talk yet.
Yeah, well, we knew that.
That's what happens when
you're dealing with scum.
Sick, sick people who know
they know and..
it's gonna come back
to them because...
people make mistakes,
and they will get found out
for what they did to my daughter.
Matt, I gotta go.
I gotta go, honey.
There's no gun shown, okay?
No gun involved.
Can you describe what you saw?
I just...
looked over and...
saw her in the ditch.
I thought...
that's a little girl.
And I thought...
who would ever do
something like this?
When I first got this,
I checked around.
But there was nothing
on Leonerd Sawyar.
It was like he was a
ghost or something.
Then, out of the blue,
I got this through my blog.
After trading a
couple of emails,
we agreed to meet up
when I got in town.
I couldn't tell Jessie's
mom about this...
the tape, or anything
about my trip.
This was the only person
that I was able to connect with...
that actually knew anything
about Leonerd Sawyar.
Listen...
I can't stay long,
so let's get to business.
Do you have my little donation?
Yeah, I got it.
All right, can we start?
Do you have the address?
Are you 100% sure?
How do you know?
Why are you
getting into my shit?
- Because it's important.
- Then let's get to it.
All right.
This dude...
Leonerd...
the guy that lives here...
as far as anybody knows,
he's just an amateur.
But...
if he really is this Leor Sawa
person like you say...
then I don't have any
problem passing this on.
You know, people get to do
whatever they want around here.
But not that kind of shit.
Do you know how he met Jessie?
People meet up
all kinds of ways.
They get drawn to certain stuff.
Listen...
that's all I got.
This is it.
This is where they
found Jessie's body.
It's about five miles from the address
that I'm holding in my hand.
Are you coming or are you
just gonna stand there?
This is the address.
2246 Entrada.
My first thought was:
It seems...
too quiet.
I didn't hear any
birds, nothing.
It was like somebody took a switch
and turned the sound off.
All I could think
of was, stay put.
Don't move.
Just wait till somebody
finally comes out.
And then someone did.
Do you see that in your mind?
As I watched him standing there,
it seemed as if
everything froze in time.
It was now or never because all
I wanted was for this to be over.
You look scared, Matthew.
Fuck you!
And you're bleeding.
Well, no, no matter, you,
you're here now, right?
And your camera, too.
Now why don't you just gimme
the knife so we can do this right?
You're still gonna get
what you came here for.
You don't know what the
fuck you're talking about.
If, if I'd wanted to kill ya...
I'd have killed
you already, right?
I mean, back at
the hotel, I saw you.
All alone.
Typing, sleeping.
Dreaming about your girl.
Don't talk about Jessie.
You don't know
anything about her.
Oh, but I do.
The very first day...
you came here...
you left her alone at the party.
She was looking for ya.
She was looking for you,
but, no, 'cause
you were too busy,
you were too busy with that...
that lady friend.
No.
Oh yes...
'cause that's how we met.
You're full of shit.
Yeah, I know it's hard.
It's a...
but you gotta understand...
there's nothing...
nothing you could do.
Mm mm.
It was all predestined.
I know because...
because she imagined me.
And I imagined her.
And that's how it happens.
I saw it in her eyes.
Just like the others.
It's not what I wanted.
But this, too, is meant to be.
Now get outta here!
Get back!
Outta the way!
Make sure that
thing is still running.
'Cause every picture...
should have a good ending.
My time is up.
There is nothing left...
for me to see.
Oh my God!
I'm not sure that something dark
like this can ever go away.
Leor Sawa made me his witness...
and there's nothing
I can do about it.
But I do know...
we can't hide from it.
People need to understand...
this does exist!
This is where Jessie was killed.
In a basement...
in a house...
just like any other
house on a street...
that could be yours or mine.
I've made a lot of mistakes,
and I can't change that.
But I was right about this trip back
and everything that was a part of it.
My memories of Jessie
will always be the same.
Beautiful.
Where are you taking me?
Don't worry about it.
Just walk straight that way.
Do you know where we're going?
Yeah, almost there.
Thank you, Matt.
Thank you so much.
I love you, Matt.
You see this rock?
I want you to keep it.
And when I'm not with you...
you can feel like I am.
