Forever and a Day (2022) Movie Script
It was a beautiful
Sunday morning,
majestic almost,
gentle and calm.
It seemed pleasant,
yet vacant somehow.
You could hear the birds
singing for miles away and, oh,
how beautifully they sang.
And you could almost smell
the peace in the air.
Some were eager
to start their morning.
The day was promising to most,
but not for our friend Daniel.
Daniel was a freshman,
reserved at times.
He had one only friend outside
of his baseball teammates.
He was really
trying to find his way
as most underclassmen do,
but later he'd be distracted ...
- Hey, Mr. Dawson.
by the somethings
that would transpire
towards the end
of that freshman year.
- Hey. How's it going?
He was going through a
very difficult time;
and even though he had Haley,
his best friend in the
whole world, by his side,
it was still hard for him.
Are you gonna
get your nails filled?
And Haley, well,
she was dealing with
some heaviness as well,
but they both felt that
if they had each other,
everything would be All right.
Hey, Mrs. Johnson.
Unfortunately,
everything was about to change
and the next two days
were about to be the hardest
they would ever face.
Can you hurry up? Let's go.
I'm coming, I'm coming!
First, we gotta go to Dad's
and pick up a some things,
and then I can drop
you off at your friends.
Are you serious?
- I know.
- Dad's?
- I know!
- Ugh, it's gonna take forever.
Hey, Daniel!
Hi, Ms. Martin. How are you?
I'm doing good.
- How are you?
- I'm okay.
That's good.
And how's your dad?
Is he doing okay?
Yeah, he's headed
to the shop right now.
Always working.
Your father is such a good man.
Okay, Ms. Martin,
I'll see you later!
Oh, huh?
Okay, sweetie.
Tell your dad I say hello.
Let's go!
Chop-chop!
You're such a
bratty little brother.
- Girl, it's a complete nightmare!
- Yeah.
I mean, the entire farm
is moving in with us.
- No.
- Ugh.
His mom!
Yeah, his mom!
Oh, there ain't a house
big enough for that!
I know!
And not only do we have to
accommodate her three cats,
but her cockatoo as well!
Oh, Rebecca, not the cockatoo!
No, no, no.
That little thing, it hates me.
Every time I see it ...
I know.
- Hey, I gotta get the door.
- That's Haley's friend, Daniel.
Okay, girl.
- Hi, Ms. Young.
- Hi, Daniel.
How are you doin'?
Things are okay.
Good. How's your dad?
He seems to be doing All right.
That's good. I've been
meaning to go by there.
I think I need an oil change.
I'll go by there
and check him out.
Check him ...
He needs to check my car out.
You know what, I'm
working on the kitchen.
You wanna come in?
Haley's in her room.
Yeah. Good to see
you again, Ms. Young.
You too.
Hey, Haley. What's up?
Hey Danny. I'll be
done in a minute.
It's cool.
So, what was that all about?
What's what all about?
How you started rambling
when you started talking
about Daniel's dad?
Whatever, I was not rambling.
Yes you were, girl!
Oh, Mr. Davis, can
you please fix my car?
It's called getting
an oil change.
Well, if you know
that much about it
then why is he fixing it?
You are so silly.
Listen, call it
what you want, but
I haven't seen you that giddy
since you met Haley's father.
Hey. Watch it.
I will.
I got my eye on you, girl.
Shut up.
You're so crazy.
Hello?
- I am serious, ...
- Hey! Anyone home?
You left the door open
so I figured I'd let myself in.
Oh, I left the door open.
Pastor Jae, Rebecca;
Rebecca, Pastor Jae.
Hi, good to meet you.
I think I've seen you at
a service or two, right?
Oh no, I haven't been,
but I'm gonna start going.
Okay, cool.
- Yeah, anyways ...
- Yeah, I wanna go.
I forgot to give these to you.
They're Haley's release form.
Oh, thank you so much.
I've been meaning
to get these forever.
How was church?
It was good.
You should have gone.
Yeah well, after my mom left,
my dad really stopped
showing interest in going,
you know?
I guess.
It's about time!
Sorry.
Next Sunday, you're
going to church with us,
you and your dad.
What?
And I'm not taking
no for answer, okay?
Let's go.
You're welcome. I am heading
back to the church now, okay?
- Okay.
- Y'all have a good day.
Hey, Haley!
Hey, Pastor Jae!
I gave your mom the
papers for youth camp.
Oh, cool!
This is Daniel, he's coming
to church with us next Sunday.
Nice. Hey, Daniel.
Pastor Jae.
Well, I'll see y'all later.
Mom, we're heading out!
Oh, hold on you two. Wait.
Phone.
- Daniel?
- I have it, it's right, ...
- Here it is!
- Good.
Okay, okay.
You be safe, okay?
- We will.
- Daniel?
We will.
Okay.
I'll see you in
a little bit, okay?
Love you, Mom!
Love you, too!
You are not her mother.
You are so jealous.
Boop.
Wow, we haven't
been here in forever.
I know, right?
Ever since your dad passed.
Yeah, that was a
tough time for me.
It will be three
years next week.
How are you not broken by that?
I would have lost my mind.
Oh, I almost did,
but God kept me
grounded with His love,
and help from my youth
pastor, and my friends,
you, and my mom.
I definitely would not
be at a place of peace.
I definitely miss him,
but I have to trust in God that
He has a purpose for everything.
Okay. It's crazy because
you really do seem okay.
I truly am, Danny!
So, how are you?
I know it's been tough lately.
Wow, where do I start?
How about my Mom just
leaving us out of nowhere,
with no explanation.
It's been the hardest
three months of my life.
Dad said she went out
of town on a business trip,
but I know he was
just trying to protect me,
because I would hear him
crying to his dad at night,
asking what he did wrong.
Why didn't she just
tell me or talk to me?
Well, I don't have the
answer to that, but here.
Haley?
Hey!
What are you guys doin'?
Hey, Charlie.
Daniel, this is Charlie and ...
- Kyrin.
- Kyrin.
They're from my
youth group at church.
- 'Sup, guys?
- Hey, Daniel.
Hey, what's up?
So, mind if we hangout
with you guys for a little bit?
Sure!
Cool.
Cool.
Let's throw some rocks
and see who can make the
biggest splash in the water!
- Cool.
- Cool.
Oh, that was great!
Cool.
Bet you can't beat me.
Bet I can.
Oh, that was a nice on.
Oh, that one's good.
Guys?
My mom just texted,
she said we have to go.
But I'll see you
at the park later.
Right, Haley?
Right. Of course.
Wait, what thing at the park?
I guess you'll just to
have to wait and find out.
Man, you're fast.
I used to run track.
How do you think you'll do
on your finals in two weeks?
English okay.
Health okay.
Biology, algebra 2
and world geography?
Let's just say I have
a small selection
of career possibilities.
Oh, come on,
you're not that bad!
You're right, I'm worse.
What about you?
I think I'll do okay.
Even though science
isn't my strong suit,
I think I'll be all right.
I mean, it's just a test.
Right, only a test.
A test that counts about
70% of your final grade.
Ah, yeah, I know.
But there is a secret
to being successful.
You just have to do one thing.
And what's that?
Study.
Very funny.
I do study,
sometimes,
well, a little bit here and ...
I think we're missing
the point here.
Which is what?
I'm a visual learner.
And let's face it,
some of our teachers
are not the best,
Like Mr. Ramon, for example,
He's one of the most
boring history teachers ever.
He's kind of
plain.
Isn't his voice weird?
Yeah.
Dude, remember that time
you were late to his class?
Oh, yeah.
Man.
Turn around.
Okay, boys and girls.
Please turn to chapter
11 in your textbooks.
Mr. Ramon,
I'm sorry, but
why can't we get iPads
just like the rest of the
teachers and students?
First of all, Mr. Brandon,
once again you have spoken
without being given permission.
Three days detention.
What?
Now, to answer your question,
I believe that not all things
should be learned from
a little, small computer.
Computers have become
mankind's weakness,
whereas learning from a textbook
keeps your mind
strong and aware.
Now, if there are
no further questions,
please refrain from talking
and let's begin!
Don't worry,
Mr. Ramon, I got it.
Oh, thank you, Mr. Davis.
- No problem.
- Please have a seat over there.
Well, look what we have here.
What's up, Colby?
I think he's lost.
I was just picking
up some rocks.
Picking up rocks?
That's cool, let me see.
Oh.
Look at that.
I think he's mad!
Seems you came
the wrong way home,
because this is our turf, buddy.
Yeah.
What you got for
us in that bag, huh?
What are we doing?
We have to go help him!
No, those guys are trouble.
- Let's get out of here!
- No!
No one deserves to
be treated like that.
Give me that back!
You probably shouldn't
have done that!
Let's get outta here.
You, my friend,
need to learn respect.
Get up.
He said get up!
Go home, and don't
comeback here again!
Let me get a bite of that.
Daniel, we should have stopped
those boys from doing that.
Stop them how?
There was three of
them and two of us.
We can't get involved.
Travis and those
guys are trouble.
Sometimes you
just have to do it.
Don't go giving one
of your little speeches
on how important it
is to get things done.
Well, we have to start
reacting to our situations
and doing things about them.
Speaking of doing,
have you talked to
your mom since she left?
Nope, I haven't heard
anything from her.
Man, that's tough.
How long have your
parents been together?
15 years!
I'm sorry.
If there is anything you'd
like to talk about, I'm here.
Thanks, but I'm good.
Okay, well, we are best
friends for a reason, remember?
Hey, can you believe our
freshman year is almost over?
I know. It seems like
yesterday we started.
I know, right?
What was your favorite thing
about the first day of school?
Got it.
It was our first
class of the day
and Mr. Willie entered the room.
Oh my god, that was hilarious.
I know. Mr. Willie
always kept us laughing.
Here we go.
Okay everybody, have a seat,
have a seat!
Ah.
Look at cha.
Congratulations!
You made it!
Freshmen! Fresh meat!
I know how you feeling.
You feeling scared,
alone,
timid.
I'm gonna let you know
you have every right to be.
Because high school
is a scary place.
It will chew you up,
swallow you, spit you
out, and regurgitate,
just so it can do the
same thing the next day.
- Mr. Willie!
- Yes, ma'am.
What are you doing?
Uh, I'm just in here
breaking in the new bloods ...
Thank you, Mr. Willie.
Yes, ma'am.
I'll just do what I
came in here to do,
take out this trash.
Thank you, Mr. Willie.
No problem, ma'am!
Hey little cutie pie.
Well, hello.
Hi, class, welcome
back from summer break.
My name is Mrs. Clark,
let's get out your paper and pens
and let's get started.
Oh my god, that was hilarious!
I know, right?
Mr. Willie always
kept us laughing.
That he did.
Let's go.
So, what was your
favorite memory
of our freshman year?
Let me think.
Got it!
Coach Jackie and Ms. Roni!
Oh, man!
So yesterday, we
talked about tadpoles,
and I am so excited
'cause today ...
Turn to page 273.
All right.
So,
we are gonna be
dissecting a frog!
All right.
So, little safety tip.
There is a right way
and a wrong way to use a scalpel
when you're cutting a frog.
I mean, if you're not
careful, you could,
put someone's eye
out or cut off a finger.
So ...
Hello, Coach,
how can I help you?
Hey! How's it going?
Hey.
I just came by to see how
your weekend was going.
It was good. Yours?
It was good.
Fantastic.
What's up with the donuts?
What donuts?
Oh.
Well,
I ran ... I was on
my way to work and,
I stopped by the donut
shop, the new donut shop,
and I remembered
you love donuts,
so I bought them.
Aww.
Hey! We don't need any of that.
I got you in P.E. later.
So, I, I just bought some,
for you.
- Well, thank you.
Not all of them.
- Just, ...
- Oh.
- I mean,
- Okay.
you can eat all of
them if you want, but ...
Well, thank you.
That's so sweet.
- So ...
- Thank you.
Yeah.
No, no.
Oh, the frog!
I'll put 'em right here
Oh, perfect.
Thank you. Oh.
The tree.
- Bye.
- Bye, Coach.
All right, here we go.
Are y'all on page 273?
Okay.
Hey, Dad!
Hey, bud, what's going on?
Nothing much, just hanging out.
Cool. Nothing wrong with that!
Haley, how are you doing?
I'm doing great, Mr. Davis!
Awesome. What have
y'all been up to today?
- Stuff.
- Well, that sounds fun.
What kind of stuff?
Just walking around town.
Yeah, pretty much.
I mean, what have
you been up to?
You know, stuff.
What you doing on this car?
Well, you see,
I'm giving it a good
inspection right now,
checking out some things.
We had a little bit of work to
do on it. What do you think?
Safe to drive?
More or less,
maybe a bit of work.
Mr. D!
- Yeah?
- Telephone.
Okay, I'll be
right in, in a sec.
Guys, I gotta get a little
stuff done before I head out.
Y'all have some fun, all right?
- All right.
- Okay.
I'm gonna drive this thing.
No, you're not.
Just kidding.
That would be
cool, though, right?
Yeah.
So, the good news is
your car is all ready to go.
Battery gave us a
little more trouble
than we planned, but ...
- Oh.
Yo, Mr. D!
Yep?
Mrs. Walters wants an
update on her vehicle.
Ah, good news, her car is ready,
but we still have to clean it.
So tell her like 30
minutes and it will be ready.
I'll let her know.
Yeah, so you're good to go.
- Okay, thank you.
- Thank you.
- Have a great day.
- Okay.
- Can you sign off on this please?
- Of course.
- Thank you.
- Thanks.
All right, I'm gonna be outside if
anybody needs anything, okay?
Your Dad seems to
be doing okay, I mean,
all things considered.
Yeah, I guess so.
You okay?
Danny?
Oh, I'm, I'm fine.
I mean, how am I supposed to be?
My parents aren't
together anymore.
I mean, that's normal
these days, right?
Everyone's parents are
thinking about getting a divorce,
planning a divorce, or
going through with a divorce.
I mean, it's the parents
that go through it the most,
surely not the kid, right?
Nobody cares about the kid,
it's only about them.
What, what was that for?
It seemed like you needed it.
I'm here for you, Danny,
please remember that.
You've been giving
me a lot of hugs lately.
One would think you're going
to leave me or something.
Wait. You're not
moving, are you?
No, I'm not going anywhere.
I'll be by your side forever.
I know.
You seem to be the
only stable thing in my life.
There's also someone
else you can trust,
God.
If there is one
thing I've learned
from life without my
dad, after he passed,
it's that God can and will
sustain you through your life,
if you trust him.
Sometimes we don't
understand why things happen,
but usually there is a
greater cause at work.
We just have to
be still long enough
to listen to what He has to say.
So, what brings you in today?
Well, my car has
been driving differently
and the check engine
light came on yesterday,
and I wondered if you
can just take a look at it?
Yeah, my pleasure.
Can you pop the hood for me?
Sure.
Everything is good now.
It was just a spark plug.
Oh! Okay.
Well, thank you.
Yeah, my pleasure.
Oh, how much do I owe you?
Oh, no. Amy, it's on the house.
You're so sweet.
Honestly, I thought I waited
way too long to bring it in,
and, and all these bad
things would pop up.
No, you did the right
thing to bring it in.
Always better to get
regular maintenance,
that's how we keep
you in tip top shape.
Then I'll keep
that in mind, sir.
Bring the car in
more frequently.
It's a date.
Well, well, well.
Hey, Jeff.
Hi, Rebecca.
Amy.
So you, getting your car fixed?
Yeah, you know?
Rebecca, what
are you doing here?
Oh no, me?
Oh no, I just ...
See, I was here like a
week or two ago and I,
I left something, my, ...
Oh.
Gum.
I left my gum.
Yeah, my gum fell.
Yep.
Did she just say
she left something,
and then pick up gum?
Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Yeah, how weird Rebecca is.
No.
Well, yes, but no.
Look at our parents.
Wouldn't that be weird if
your dad got with my mom?
Yeah, super weird.
No worries, though,
I know my mom.
When she's flirting,
she flicks her hair to the right
and laughs with her head back.
Oh no.
Yikes.
But that doesn't mean
my dad's into her, though.
When he's flirting,
he has a nervous itch
on the back of his neck.
That's not a thing.
That's a thing.
Okay.
Better look, I think
we got company.
- Let's go.
- All right.
Yeah, that was a good memory,
but more awkward than anything.
Yeah, that it was.
Grown-ups are weird!
That they are!
Hey, Haley, you're here!
Hey, Erica!
Who's he?
This is Daniel.
Danny, this is Erica from
our youth group at church.
Hey.
Hey, we need a couple extra
people for our soccer game.
Y'all should join us.
Yeah, come on,
guys, it will be fun.
Daniel, you're on my team.
Yeah, and, Haley,
you're with me and Erica.
I can't really play in this.
Pastor Jae has extra shirts.
Oh, cool.
Yo, yo!
Hey, what's up, August?
Hey, mans.
This what you needed, right?
I said my tool box, not a tool.
But I see you found the kitchen.
Yeah, I did.
I'll tell you what, you guys,
y'all got the best snacks.
Yeah, we do.
But those are Daniel's
favorite apples.
You better not let him
catching you eating one.
Daniel's apples?
Man, he could probably take me.
You and me both.
Where is he anyway?
Oh, he's out with Haley.
They, you know,
they're just exploring
this big small town.
They'll be back in a
couple hours, though.
Those two, they're
attached at the hip.
Yeah, you can say that again.
Are you gonna get my toolbox
or are you just
gonna stand there?
Just stand here.
- Hey, Jeff.
- Hey!
Whatcha doin'?
Oh, just trying to fix
this car over here ...
Hey, has August been by lately?
He's
right ...
I haven't seen him!
Okay.
Well, that's weird.
Because I feel
like you're lying.
But I trust you.
'Kay? Talk later?
Have a good day, Jeff.
Bye.
That's okay. Keep it up!
Hi, Jeff.
Rebecca, where
did you come from?
You are, like, so mysterious.
I parked right there.
You are so dramatic.
You would be too if
you were about to die.
So, what are you doing?
Hey, where's your Jeep?
Did it mess up already?
Told you it wasn't gonna last.
My Jeep is just fine
and it's at the shop.
This is not my Jeep and I am ...
I'm the mechanic
around here, okay?
First of all, you
should have been,
at my shop the other day.
You know Jason, right?
The insurance guy?
You know, the guy that
owns the insurance company
across the tracks.
Well, he's standing there
holding a drive belt in his hand,
and I say to him,
"What are you
doing with that belt?"
And then he starts saying,
"I gotta have to have
something to hold my pants up."
You should have been there.
Oh well, I started
laughing hysterically
for like three minutes.
I mean, this is hilarious,
the guy with the ...
Oh.
Anyway, we get his car,
tow it over here to my house.
I am gonna fix it, drive
it back to his place later.
The drive belt is a belt.
So he uses that to
connect to another belt
so that can
connect to his pants!
What a sly fox!
Oh my gosh, that
dude is so funny!
Rebecca, what
are you doing here?
I was just driving by and I
saw that you were working,
so I just wanted to say hi.
But don't you live like
the other side of town,
like over by the stadium?
Yes.
I was in this part of town
because of my ankle,
it's sore.
And I needed to
get some grass, ice,
from my doctor.
I mean, you seemed
fine walking up, though.
It comes and goes, Jeff.
Don't be weird!
Okay, so is there something
I can help you with?
Nope! Don't need nothing at all.
Just wanted to see how
you and Amy are doing.
What do you mean by that?
I mean, I don't know.
I just, I know that you
guys are going out, like,
on a date.
Rebecca, we're just friends,
and two friends
are allowed to ...
Is everything okay over here?
Yes, Mr. Officer,
everything's fine.
Rebecca,
he's not an officer.
Hush your mouth!
Little Sally Sue, I'll ask all
the questions around here.
I'm gonna need you to put
your hands behind your back.
Excuse me, I know
you're not a real cop.
What?
Don't play games with me.
I'm so serious.
Well, Jeff and I set
this whole thing up.
Well, now, that's a lie.
Don't be a buzz kill, Jeff!
Hey, can I talk
to you for a sec?
What was it?
Was it my facial hair?
Was it the way I walk?
It was your uniform.
Really?
Hey, babe, we gotta go.
My mom is locked
in her car again.
- Oh.
- Huh?
Okay. Are her keys inside?
My mom's stuck in the car,
the keys are on the
outside of the car.
But isn't she with your sister?
Yes, but my mom's
stuck in the car,
the keys are on the
outside of the car,
my sister is in the store.
Oh, okay.
- Bye, guys!
- Bye, Rebecca!
Good luck with that ankle!
You're so gullible, Jeff.
I was a joking.
All right, Jeff,
I'm back to my
neighborhood watch.
Hey, kids, get off
of that trampoline!
Bye.
My man.
Oh, well, there he is.
Now, why did you go into hiding?
Yeah, man, so, what did I miss?
What did you miss?
You missed getting
me my toolbox.
Yeah, whatever.
So, what did LeAnn say about me?
What?
Enough with LeAnn.
Charlie!
Oh, well, I have to go.
But it was fun.
See y'all later.
Did you have fun?
I did!
See, I told you.
You need to start
trusting me more often.
The queen of fun here.
And what does that make me?
The king of nice hair.
- Hey!
- Just kidding.
Going to bed, Mom!
Hey, Haley.
Hey, Daniel.
What's wrong?
I can't believe
this is happening.
What?
My dad, your mom?
Oh, it's happening.
Our parents are going out on
a date, or, as my mom puts it,
"Just two reasonable adults
going to have lunch and coffee."
Well, ...
if I could pick anyone
for my dad to date,
I'm not saying that I am,
but your mom would
be a good choice.
Same here.
So, should we be happy for them?
I don't know.
My head hurts.
Good night!
Good night, Daniel.
Good night.
Good night, Dad.
- Hey!
- Hey.
How's it been?
Pretty good.
Pretty good? Yeah.
Oh, hey, you got
your bat this time,
you didn't leave it.
Yeah.
Pick 'em up!
He said pick 'em up!
Aw, you can't pick
your books up?
Man, get those outta here.
Leave me alone.
- Man, get out of here, kid!
- Yeah, run away.
All right, Dino's, let's go,
you're going to be late.
Keep it moving. Move!
You're need a
better filter than that.
Get to class.
Davis, ...
do you know that you
are the only freshman
in the history of this school
to ever play at a varsity level?
I am?
I can tell you, you haven't
disappointed me one bit.
Thanks, Coach.
I love the game.
I know you do,
just like your dad.
Man, Jeff could
play some baseball.
I heard.
Yeah, well, I always
thought he would go pro,
or at least semi-pro, you know?
- Yeah.
- I mean, you know,
you're his son and all.
And I wish I had, a son.
It depends if I met
the right lady in my life.
Coach?
Huh? What?
Can I go back to practice?
Yeah, yeah. Get, get,
get back to practice.
Oh yeah, by the way ...
Yeah, Coach?
You're the starting
pitcher tonight.
I am?
- Yeah.
- Thanks Coach!
Get her done!
Mr. Clarke?
Yes, Haley?
I'm finished with my quiz.
Okay. Just wait quietly.
Okay.
May I please go to the restroom?
Can it wait?
The bell will be
ringing in 10 minutes.
No sir, I have to go now.
Okay, fine, go.
Thank you!
Corie, sit up and stop
drooling on your quiz!
Part three.
What's up with the hoodie?
You think you're scary?
What's going on, Colby?
Ms. Young.
Ms. Young?
Daniel.
Oh my god!
I am so sorry.
I'm glad you came.
Does your dad know you're here?
- No.
- Okay.
I'm gonna call your
dad for you, okay?
Okay.
Yeah, you go to
Haley's room, okay?
And stay as long
as you want, okay?
Get back!
Move to the parking lot!
I've got a 1032,
multiple shots fired!
Hey, Daniel.
I know things may
seem rough right now,
but I promise you
they'll get better.
I just wanted to say
that I value our friendship
and that you mean
so much to me, for real.
I mean, when I first moved
here in the second grade,
you always had my
back and you gave me,
you gave me your chocolate milk,
mainly because
you're lactose intolerant
but I know you did it
because you cared too.
I wanted to let you know
that I pray for you every night.
I pray that your
parents work things out;
if not, that you have
the peace and strength
to go through with it.
I pray, that even if they don't,
you're still all right,
because you will be
all right, you know?
I also pray that you realize
no matter what happens
to us in the future,
I will be here for you.
Let's promise each other
not to ever let
tough times break us,
but to trust God through it,
so ...
we can make ourselves stronger.
By the way, yesterday was epic.
Always good
spending time with you.
Remember, we have forever to go.
P.S.
I got you something.
Check the front pocket
of your backpack.
Hey, Dad.
Hey, Danny.
I love you, son.
I love you too, Dad.
You're not alone.
What's this?
Haley left it in my
backpack for me.
Oh, wow.
That's really special.
There's,
there's somebody here
that wants to see you.
Mom.
Hey, buddy!
I'm sorry about
your friend Haley.
I'm here now.
She's gone, Mom!
I know, sweetheart, I know.
We love you, Danny.
Daniel, along with the
community, grieved.
Things began to change
in the coming weeks.
Parents became a
little more attentive
and the kids' eyes began to
open up to what really mattered.
I think that's ...
Oh, hey, Alex!
Hey! You left your
backpack at home.
I wanted to bring it to you
before you got to school.
'Kay, totally forgot about it.
No worries, I understand.
Y'all have been through a lot.
Well, I gotta get to work.
Try to beat traffic. I
don't want to be late.
See you soon?
Be careful.
Your step mom is pretty
cool, cool.
I said cool!
What?
I swear, I promise I said cool.
Guys, I don't know if I'm
ready to go back to school.
I know it was three weeks ago,
but it feels like
it was yesterday.
Yeah, it doesn't even seem real.
You know, I've seen
Colby around school, but
didn't really know he was
feeling that way, though.
I still can't get those
images out of my head.
The sound of those gunshots
ring in my ear every day.
How about the look on his face?
The look of pain,
hurt, desperation?
I've been there before.
Have you talked
to anyone about it?
No, I don't think anyone
would understand.
Tell your parents.
They might understand.
If you can't tell them,
tell an adult you trust.
I'm finding it the most
dangerous to stay quiet, 'kay?
He's right, Mal,
or it will get worse.
I'm seeing it happen to my
mom because of my dad passing.
Okay.
This incident is definitely waking
me up to my own problems.
I'll talk to my parents.
Speaking of talking,
has anyone talked to
Daniel since this happened?
Him and Haley were so close.
Yeah, a couple of times a
few of us went over to his house
and got him out.
He didn't ever say much,
but I know it means a lot
that we're there, you know?
Yeah.
What's up, losers?
Derrick!
Sorry guys, he can be a bit
of a jerk sometimes.
Sometimes?
Shut up, Quinn.
- Whatever.
- Cool.
Hey, Corey.
Hey, Angel.
What's your name?
Mallory.
Cool, nice to meet you.
And that's Charlie.
Oh, I know Charlie.
We walk to school
together sometimes, well,
if I'm not running late.
Okay.
So you little dinosaurs
ready to go back
to the kill zone today
after your three week vacation?
Derrick, stop it!
Put the knife up!
Kill zone?
Vacation?
C'mon, man, people died!
This wasn't a vacation at all.
Now, I know y'all's school closed like ours did
because we're pretty close to y'all,
but there was nothing fun or
funny about what happened!
Hey, no, look at me!
Hey, look, look! Look at me!
Look at me! Look at me!
I was in that hallway!
And I seen the pain
on that kid's face
because there are people like you
who think things like this is a game!
Yeah, I've done some
crying and reflecting on
during this vacation
because I know I
should have done better,
and you should too.
All right, man,
like, just chill out!
No, you chill!
All right, guys, let's go.
Let's get outta here.
Hey, Corey, look at me.
It's okay.
Derrick is a big jerk and will
probably never understand.
Those kids over
at Eagle City High
have no idea how we feel.
I think you got your
point across, though.
Let's head to school.
We don't wanna be late.
Good Morning, everyone, I'm Janet McKenzie
with KK428 Channel 76 News.
I'm currently standing outside
of T-Rex Titans High School,
were just two weeks ago a high school student
by the name of Colby Walters opened fire,
killing one student
and three teachers,
injuring several others.
We've since been
told by investigators
that they uncovered posts
on Walters social
media accounts saying,
"They're all out to get me,"
"No one is my friend,"
"I am tired of
being talked about,"
and, "I have to figure
out a way to make it stop".
What happened next
has sent us all into a shock
and the community was
in a world of disarray.
You feeling ready
for this, Danny?
I believe so.
I'm proud of you, son.
Dad, can I ask you a question?
Of course, anything.
Mom, she isn't
coming back, is she?
Daniel!
Daniel!
Daniel!
Man, I got so many
marshmallows, you're gonna get sick.
Who's ready for a camp fire?
Daniel?
Anne.
Anne?
What, are you doing here?
Is Daniel not home?
No.
He went with some of
Haley's church friends.
They came over and
left about an hour ago.
Oh.
Oh.
Okay. That's, that's
probably good, anyway.
He's, he needs to
get out of the house,
he's been cooped up
here for about a week.
Yeah, I, I know.
While you've been at work I've
stopped by to see him every day.
What?
You've been here?
I thought you left
the day of the funeral.
I was going to, but I couldn't
leave him like that, Jeff.
He was hurting.
I mean, he still is.
So am I.
Anne, ...
Please don't.
I cannot do this right now.
This is it?
Can you tell Daniel
I'm sorry I had to leave?
I told him I would be
here when he got home.
This is it, Anne?
Can you also tell him
that I love him so much?
Anne,
you don't just get to throw
away your family like that!
No!
No, no, no!
You do not get to
do that to me, Jeffrey!
No!
We've been married for 15 years.
The first five or
six were great.
You were a wonderful husband.
But the last 10,
you have done nothing
but put that shop before me.
You were always working!
Anne, wait.
Let's just sit and talk.
I've done nothing but wait.
I am tired of waiting.
It's just an endless cycle of,
of empty apologies
that lead nowhere
but back to square one.
It's, like you've kicked
me to the side, and you,
I'm invisible you ...
- I have not
kicked you to the side.
- Yes, you did!
Anne, I had to work!
I had to work to
provide for our family!
Have you not seen
the endless bills
that we've been racking up?
Just even trying to
pay for this house?
That doesn't just appear,
someone's gotta
make that happen!
I'm not gonna apologize
for working for my family!
But what about the
people in the house?
I'm tired, Jeff.
I am tired of being last,
I am tired of being alone,
and I am tired of not
being enough for you.
I'm tired.
I'm going back to
my mom's in Virginia.
Take care of our boy.
No.
Danny, Mom's not coming back.
I thought so.
But that's okay.
It's okay that Mom's
not coming back.
And ...
it's okay that Haley's
not here with us.
Because, son, just
'cause Haley's not here,
she'll always be here.
And no one can take that away.
A broken town
now trying to put the
pieces back together.
One thing is for certain:
prayers for healing and
strength are much needed
during these difficult time.
Janet McKenzie,
KK428 Channel 76 News.
I know that you are
all filled with questions,
anger, sadness, and hurt.
A tragedy happened
and lives were taken
from people that we love
and care about.
You might be wondering,
"How did he get a gun?
Where did he get it from?"
But let's talk about how we can
stop this from happening more!
Show of hands,
how many of you have
ever been talked about
or bullied in some way?
That's right, so have I.
Around the world,
there are people hurting
and we are taught to
mask it and put it aside!
As a society,
we do more tearing people
down than we do building up!
Love is the answer!
Be kind, help each other out.
If someone needs a shoulder
to cry on, give 'em one.
Stick up for one another!
If you see someone drop
something, help them pick it up.
Yeah, and I hear
what you're saying.
It doesn't show weakness,
it only shows that
you're stronger.
Be relentlessly
caring for each other!
That is my challenge to you.
You are beautifully
and wonderfully made.
Daniel, how are you doing today?
Well ...
Oh, a mosquito in a wheelchair.
That's funny. So funny.
Hold on. Excuse me.
Mr. Willie!
Mr. Willie!
- Oh, where am I at?
- Can you get out?
- Oh, I am sorry, ma'am.
Let me just get going.
I'm sorry.
How are you doing?
I know a lot of
people fell victim
to the shooting
incident that happened
around three weeks ago.
That they did.
So I wanted to start a club.
A club?
What kind of club?
One that provides help and
support for those in need.
Okay.
What would you call this club?
Hey, Haley.
Hey, Danny.
I'll be done in a minute.
It's cool.
- You be safe, okay?
- We will.
- Daniel?
- We will.
Okay. I'll see
you in a little bit.
Have you talked to
your mom since she left?
Nope, I haven't heard
anything from her
What are we doing?
We have to go help him!
No, those guys are trouble.
- Let's get outta here.
- No!
No one deserves to
be treated like that.
Hey, Haley.
What's wrong?
I can't believe
this is happening.
What?
One would think you're
gonna leave me or something.
Wait. You're not
moving, are you?
No, I'm not going anywhere.
I'll be by your side forever.
I know.
You seem to be the
only thing in my life.
She's gone, Mom.
I know, sweetheart.
I know.
Forever and a Day.
Forever and a Day.
I like that.
And to this day,
Daniel fights for
awareness and spreads love.
Grandpa, that's a sad story.
Be consistent on how
you treat other people.
What kind of person
are you going to be?
What kind of legacy are
you going to leave behind?
I'm just a kid!
A kid that can
make a difference.
Chelsea, let's go get some food.
You coming?
Sunday morning,
majestic almost,
gentle and calm.
It seemed pleasant,
yet vacant somehow.
You could hear the birds
singing for miles away and, oh,
how beautifully they sang.
And you could almost smell
the peace in the air.
Some were eager
to start their morning.
The day was promising to most,
but not for our friend Daniel.
Daniel was a freshman,
reserved at times.
He had one only friend outside
of his baseball teammates.
He was really
trying to find his way
as most underclassmen do,
but later he'd be distracted ...
- Hey, Mr. Dawson.
by the somethings
that would transpire
towards the end
of that freshman year.
- Hey. How's it going?
He was going through a
very difficult time;
and even though he had Haley,
his best friend in the
whole world, by his side,
it was still hard for him.
Are you gonna
get your nails filled?
And Haley, well,
she was dealing with
some heaviness as well,
but they both felt that
if they had each other,
everything would be All right.
Hey, Mrs. Johnson.
Unfortunately,
everything was about to change
and the next two days
were about to be the hardest
they would ever face.
Can you hurry up? Let's go.
I'm coming, I'm coming!
First, we gotta go to Dad's
and pick up a some things,
and then I can drop
you off at your friends.
Are you serious?
- I know.
- Dad's?
- I know!
- Ugh, it's gonna take forever.
Hey, Daniel!
Hi, Ms. Martin. How are you?
I'm doing good.
- How are you?
- I'm okay.
That's good.
And how's your dad?
Is he doing okay?
Yeah, he's headed
to the shop right now.
Always working.
Your father is such a good man.
Okay, Ms. Martin,
I'll see you later!
Oh, huh?
Okay, sweetie.
Tell your dad I say hello.
Let's go!
Chop-chop!
You're such a
bratty little brother.
- Girl, it's a complete nightmare!
- Yeah.
I mean, the entire farm
is moving in with us.
- No.
- Ugh.
His mom!
Yeah, his mom!
Oh, there ain't a house
big enough for that!
I know!
And not only do we have to
accommodate her three cats,
but her cockatoo as well!
Oh, Rebecca, not the cockatoo!
No, no, no.
That little thing, it hates me.
Every time I see it ...
I know.
- Hey, I gotta get the door.
- That's Haley's friend, Daniel.
Okay, girl.
- Hi, Ms. Young.
- Hi, Daniel.
How are you doin'?
Things are okay.
Good. How's your dad?
He seems to be doing All right.
That's good. I've been
meaning to go by there.
I think I need an oil change.
I'll go by there
and check him out.
Check him ...
He needs to check my car out.
You know what, I'm
working on the kitchen.
You wanna come in?
Haley's in her room.
Yeah. Good to see
you again, Ms. Young.
You too.
Hey, Haley. What's up?
Hey Danny. I'll be
done in a minute.
It's cool.
So, what was that all about?
What's what all about?
How you started rambling
when you started talking
about Daniel's dad?
Whatever, I was not rambling.
Yes you were, girl!
Oh, Mr. Davis, can
you please fix my car?
It's called getting
an oil change.
Well, if you know
that much about it
then why is he fixing it?
You are so silly.
Listen, call it
what you want, but
I haven't seen you that giddy
since you met Haley's father.
Hey. Watch it.
I will.
I got my eye on you, girl.
Shut up.
You're so crazy.
Hello?
- I am serious, ...
- Hey! Anyone home?
You left the door open
so I figured I'd let myself in.
Oh, I left the door open.
Pastor Jae, Rebecca;
Rebecca, Pastor Jae.
Hi, good to meet you.
I think I've seen you at
a service or two, right?
Oh no, I haven't been,
but I'm gonna start going.
Okay, cool.
- Yeah, anyways ...
- Yeah, I wanna go.
I forgot to give these to you.
They're Haley's release form.
Oh, thank you so much.
I've been meaning
to get these forever.
How was church?
It was good.
You should have gone.
Yeah well, after my mom left,
my dad really stopped
showing interest in going,
you know?
I guess.
It's about time!
Sorry.
Next Sunday, you're
going to church with us,
you and your dad.
What?
And I'm not taking
no for answer, okay?
Let's go.
You're welcome. I am heading
back to the church now, okay?
- Okay.
- Y'all have a good day.
Hey, Haley!
Hey, Pastor Jae!
I gave your mom the
papers for youth camp.
Oh, cool!
This is Daniel, he's coming
to church with us next Sunday.
Nice. Hey, Daniel.
Pastor Jae.
Well, I'll see y'all later.
Mom, we're heading out!
Oh, hold on you two. Wait.
Phone.
- Daniel?
- I have it, it's right, ...
- Here it is!
- Good.
Okay, okay.
You be safe, okay?
- We will.
- Daniel?
We will.
Okay.
I'll see you in
a little bit, okay?
Love you, Mom!
Love you, too!
You are not her mother.
You are so jealous.
Boop.
Wow, we haven't
been here in forever.
I know, right?
Ever since your dad passed.
Yeah, that was a
tough time for me.
It will be three
years next week.
How are you not broken by that?
I would have lost my mind.
Oh, I almost did,
but God kept me
grounded with His love,
and help from my youth
pastor, and my friends,
you, and my mom.
I definitely would not
be at a place of peace.
I definitely miss him,
but I have to trust in God that
He has a purpose for everything.
Okay. It's crazy because
you really do seem okay.
I truly am, Danny!
So, how are you?
I know it's been tough lately.
Wow, where do I start?
How about my Mom just
leaving us out of nowhere,
with no explanation.
It's been the hardest
three months of my life.
Dad said she went out
of town on a business trip,
but I know he was
just trying to protect me,
because I would hear him
crying to his dad at night,
asking what he did wrong.
Why didn't she just
tell me or talk to me?
Well, I don't have the
answer to that, but here.
Haley?
Hey!
What are you guys doin'?
Hey, Charlie.
Daniel, this is Charlie and ...
- Kyrin.
- Kyrin.
They're from my
youth group at church.
- 'Sup, guys?
- Hey, Daniel.
Hey, what's up?
So, mind if we hangout
with you guys for a little bit?
Sure!
Cool.
Cool.
Let's throw some rocks
and see who can make the
biggest splash in the water!
- Cool.
- Cool.
Oh, that was great!
Cool.
Bet you can't beat me.
Bet I can.
Oh, that was a nice on.
Oh, that one's good.
Guys?
My mom just texted,
she said we have to go.
But I'll see you
at the park later.
Right, Haley?
Right. Of course.
Wait, what thing at the park?
I guess you'll just to
have to wait and find out.
Man, you're fast.
I used to run track.
How do you think you'll do
on your finals in two weeks?
English okay.
Health okay.
Biology, algebra 2
and world geography?
Let's just say I have
a small selection
of career possibilities.
Oh, come on,
you're not that bad!
You're right, I'm worse.
What about you?
I think I'll do okay.
Even though science
isn't my strong suit,
I think I'll be all right.
I mean, it's just a test.
Right, only a test.
A test that counts about
70% of your final grade.
Ah, yeah, I know.
But there is a secret
to being successful.
You just have to do one thing.
And what's that?
Study.
Very funny.
I do study,
sometimes,
well, a little bit here and ...
I think we're missing
the point here.
Which is what?
I'm a visual learner.
And let's face it,
some of our teachers
are not the best,
Like Mr. Ramon, for example,
He's one of the most
boring history teachers ever.
He's kind of
plain.
Isn't his voice weird?
Yeah.
Dude, remember that time
you were late to his class?
Oh, yeah.
Man.
Turn around.
Okay, boys and girls.
Please turn to chapter
11 in your textbooks.
Mr. Ramon,
I'm sorry, but
why can't we get iPads
just like the rest of the
teachers and students?
First of all, Mr. Brandon,
once again you have spoken
without being given permission.
Three days detention.
What?
Now, to answer your question,
I believe that not all things
should be learned from
a little, small computer.
Computers have become
mankind's weakness,
whereas learning from a textbook
keeps your mind
strong and aware.
Now, if there are
no further questions,
please refrain from talking
and let's begin!
Don't worry,
Mr. Ramon, I got it.
Oh, thank you, Mr. Davis.
- No problem.
- Please have a seat over there.
Well, look what we have here.
What's up, Colby?
I think he's lost.
I was just picking
up some rocks.
Picking up rocks?
That's cool, let me see.
Oh.
Look at that.
I think he's mad!
Seems you came
the wrong way home,
because this is our turf, buddy.
Yeah.
What you got for
us in that bag, huh?
What are we doing?
We have to go help him!
No, those guys are trouble.
- Let's get out of here!
- No!
No one deserves to
be treated like that.
Give me that back!
You probably shouldn't
have done that!
Let's get outta here.
You, my friend,
need to learn respect.
Get up.
He said get up!
Go home, and don't
comeback here again!
Let me get a bite of that.
Daniel, we should have stopped
those boys from doing that.
Stop them how?
There was three of
them and two of us.
We can't get involved.
Travis and those
guys are trouble.
Sometimes you
just have to do it.
Don't go giving one
of your little speeches
on how important it
is to get things done.
Well, we have to start
reacting to our situations
and doing things about them.
Speaking of doing,
have you talked to
your mom since she left?
Nope, I haven't heard
anything from her.
Man, that's tough.
How long have your
parents been together?
15 years!
I'm sorry.
If there is anything you'd
like to talk about, I'm here.
Thanks, but I'm good.
Okay, well, we are best
friends for a reason, remember?
Hey, can you believe our
freshman year is almost over?
I know. It seems like
yesterday we started.
I know, right?
What was your favorite thing
about the first day of school?
Got it.
It was our first
class of the day
and Mr. Willie entered the room.
Oh my god, that was hilarious.
I know. Mr. Willie
always kept us laughing.
Here we go.
Okay everybody, have a seat,
have a seat!
Ah.
Look at cha.
Congratulations!
You made it!
Freshmen! Fresh meat!
I know how you feeling.
You feeling scared,
alone,
timid.
I'm gonna let you know
you have every right to be.
Because high school
is a scary place.
It will chew you up,
swallow you, spit you
out, and regurgitate,
just so it can do the
same thing the next day.
- Mr. Willie!
- Yes, ma'am.
What are you doing?
Uh, I'm just in here
breaking in the new bloods ...
Thank you, Mr. Willie.
Yes, ma'am.
I'll just do what I
came in here to do,
take out this trash.
Thank you, Mr. Willie.
No problem, ma'am!
Hey little cutie pie.
Well, hello.
Hi, class, welcome
back from summer break.
My name is Mrs. Clark,
let's get out your paper and pens
and let's get started.
Oh my god, that was hilarious!
I know, right?
Mr. Willie always
kept us laughing.
That he did.
Let's go.
So, what was your
favorite memory
of our freshman year?
Let me think.
Got it!
Coach Jackie and Ms. Roni!
Oh, man!
So yesterday, we
talked about tadpoles,
and I am so excited
'cause today ...
Turn to page 273.
All right.
So,
we are gonna be
dissecting a frog!
All right.
So, little safety tip.
There is a right way
and a wrong way to use a scalpel
when you're cutting a frog.
I mean, if you're not
careful, you could,
put someone's eye
out or cut off a finger.
So ...
Hello, Coach,
how can I help you?
Hey! How's it going?
Hey.
I just came by to see how
your weekend was going.
It was good. Yours?
It was good.
Fantastic.
What's up with the donuts?
What donuts?
Oh.
Well,
I ran ... I was on
my way to work and,
I stopped by the donut
shop, the new donut shop,
and I remembered
you love donuts,
so I bought them.
Aww.
Hey! We don't need any of that.
I got you in P.E. later.
So, I, I just bought some,
for you.
- Well, thank you.
Not all of them.
- Just, ...
- Oh.
- I mean,
- Okay.
you can eat all of
them if you want, but ...
Well, thank you.
That's so sweet.
- So ...
- Thank you.
Yeah.
No, no.
Oh, the frog!
I'll put 'em right here
Oh, perfect.
Thank you. Oh.
The tree.
- Bye.
- Bye, Coach.
All right, here we go.
Are y'all on page 273?
Okay.
Hey, Dad!
Hey, bud, what's going on?
Nothing much, just hanging out.
Cool. Nothing wrong with that!
Haley, how are you doing?
I'm doing great, Mr. Davis!
Awesome. What have
y'all been up to today?
- Stuff.
- Well, that sounds fun.
What kind of stuff?
Just walking around town.
Yeah, pretty much.
I mean, what have
you been up to?
You know, stuff.
What you doing on this car?
Well, you see,
I'm giving it a good
inspection right now,
checking out some things.
We had a little bit of work to
do on it. What do you think?
Safe to drive?
More or less,
maybe a bit of work.
Mr. D!
- Yeah?
- Telephone.
Okay, I'll be
right in, in a sec.
Guys, I gotta get a little
stuff done before I head out.
Y'all have some fun, all right?
- All right.
- Okay.
I'm gonna drive this thing.
No, you're not.
Just kidding.
That would be
cool, though, right?
Yeah.
So, the good news is
your car is all ready to go.
Battery gave us a
little more trouble
than we planned, but ...
- Oh.
Yo, Mr. D!
Yep?
Mrs. Walters wants an
update on her vehicle.
Ah, good news, her car is ready,
but we still have to clean it.
So tell her like 30
minutes and it will be ready.
I'll let her know.
Yeah, so you're good to go.
- Okay, thank you.
- Thank you.
- Have a great day.
- Okay.
- Can you sign off on this please?
- Of course.
- Thank you.
- Thanks.
All right, I'm gonna be outside if
anybody needs anything, okay?
Your Dad seems to
be doing okay, I mean,
all things considered.
Yeah, I guess so.
You okay?
Danny?
Oh, I'm, I'm fine.
I mean, how am I supposed to be?
My parents aren't
together anymore.
I mean, that's normal
these days, right?
Everyone's parents are
thinking about getting a divorce,
planning a divorce, or
going through with a divorce.
I mean, it's the parents
that go through it the most,
surely not the kid, right?
Nobody cares about the kid,
it's only about them.
What, what was that for?
It seemed like you needed it.
I'm here for you, Danny,
please remember that.
You've been giving
me a lot of hugs lately.
One would think you're going
to leave me or something.
Wait. You're not
moving, are you?
No, I'm not going anywhere.
I'll be by your side forever.
I know.
You seem to be the
only stable thing in my life.
There's also someone
else you can trust,
God.
If there is one
thing I've learned
from life without my
dad, after he passed,
it's that God can and will
sustain you through your life,
if you trust him.
Sometimes we don't
understand why things happen,
but usually there is a
greater cause at work.
We just have to
be still long enough
to listen to what He has to say.
So, what brings you in today?
Well, my car has
been driving differently
and the check engine
light came on yesterday,
and I wondered if you
can just take a look at it?
Yeah, my pleasure.
Can you pop the hood for me?
Sure.
Everything is good now.
It was just a spark plug.
Oh! Okay.
Well, thank you.
Yeah, my pleasure.
Oh, how much do I owe you?
Oh, no. Amy, it's on the house.
You're so sweet.
Honestly, I thought I waited
way too long to bring it in,
and, and all these bad
things would pop up.
No, you did the right
thing to bring it in.
Always better to get
regular maintenance,
that's how we keep
you in tip top shape.
Then I'll keep
that in mind, sir.
Bring the car in
more frequently.
It's a date.
Well, well, well.
Hey, Jeff.
Hi, Rebecca.
Amy.
So you, getting your car fixed?
Yeah, you know?
Rebecca, what
are you doing here?
Oh no, me?
Oh no, I just ...
See, I was here like a
week or two ago and I,
I left something, my, ...
Oh.
Gum.
I left my gum.
Yeah, my gum fell.
Yep.
Did she just say
she left something,
and then pick up gum?
Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Yeah, how weird Rebecca is.
No.
Well, yes, but no.
Look at our parents.
Wouldn't that be weird if
your dad got with my mom?
Yeah, super weird.
No worries, though,
I know my mom.
When she's flirting,
she flicks her hair to the right
and laughs with her head back.
Oh no.
Yikes.
But that doesn't mean
my dad's into her, though.
When he's flirting,
he has a nervous itch
on the back of his neck.
That's not a thing.
That's a thing.
Okay.
Better look, I think
we got company.
- Let's go.
- All right.
Yeah, that was a good memory,
but more awkward than anything.
Yeah, that it was.
Grown-ups are weird!
That they are!
Hey, Haley, you're here!
Hey, Erica!
Who's he?
This is Daniel.
Danny, this is Erica from
our youth group at church.
Hey.
Hey, we need a couple extra
people for our soccer game.
Y'all should join us.
Yeah, come on,
guys, it will be fun.
Daniel, you're on my team.
Yeah, and, Haley,
you're with me and Erica.
I can't really play in this.
Pastor Jae has extra shirts.
Oh, cool.
Yo, yo!
Hey, what's up, August?
Hey, mans.
This what you needed, right?
I said my tool box, not a tool.
But I see you found the kitchen.
Yeah, I did.
I'll tell you what, you guys,
y'all got the best snacks.
Yeah, we do.
But those are Daniel's
favorite apples.
You better not let him
catching you eating one.
Daniel's apples?
Man, he could probably take me.
You and me both.
Where is he anyway?
Oh, he's out with Haley.
They, you know,
they're just exploring
this big small town.
They'll be back in a
couple hours, though.
Those two, they're
attached at the hip.
Yeah, you can say that again.
Are you gonna get my toolbox
or are you just
gonna stand there?
Just stand here.
- Hey, Jeff.
- Hey!
Whatcha doin'?
Oh, just trying to fix
this car over here ...
Hey, has August been by lately?
He's
right ...
I haven't seen him!
Okay.
Well, that's weird.
Because I feel
like you're lying.
But I trust you.
'Kay? Talk later?
Have a good day, Jeff.
Bye.
That's okay. Keep it up!
Hi, Jeff.
Rebecca, where
did you come from?
You are, like, so mysterious.
I parked right there.
You are so dramatic.
You would be too if
you were about to die.
So, what are you doing?
Hey, where's your Jeep?
Did it mess up already?
Told you it wasn't gonna last.
My Jeep is just fine
and it's at the shop.
This is not my Jeep and I am ...
I'm the mechanic
around here, okay?
First of all, you
should have been,
at my shop the other day.
You know Jason, right?
The insurance guy?
You know, the guy that
owns the insurance company
across the tracks.
Well, he's standing there
holding a drive belt in his hand,
and I say to him,
"What are you
doing with that belt?"
And then he starts saying,
"I gotta have to have
something to hold my pants up."
You should have been there.
Oh well, I started
laughing hysterically
for like three minutes.
I mean, this is hilarious,
the guy with the ...
Oh.
Anyway, we get his car,
tow it over here to my house.
I am gonna fix it, drive
it back to his place later.
The drive belt is a belt.
So he uses that to
connect to another belt
so that can
connect to his pants!
What a sly fox!
Oh my gosh, that
dude is so funny!
Rebecca, what
are you doing here?
I was just driving by and I
saw that you were working,
so I just wanted to say hi.
But don't you live like
the other side of town,
like over by the stadium?
Yes.
I was in this part of town
because of my ankle,
it's sore.
And I needed to
get some grass, ice,
from my doctor.
I mean, you seemed
fine walking up, though.
It comes and goes, Jeff.
Don't be weird!
Okay, so is there something
I can help you with?
Nope! Don't need nothing at all.
Just wanted to see how
you and Amy are doing.
What do you mean by that?
I mean, I don't know.
I just, I know that you
guys are going out, like,
on a date.
Rebecca, we're just friends,
and two friends
are allowed to ...
Is everything okay over here?
Yes, Mr. Officer,
everything's fine.
Rebecca,
he's not an officer.
Hush your mouth!
Little Sally Sue, I'll ask all
the questions around here.
I'm gonna need you to put
your hands behind your back.
Excuse me, I know
you're not a real cop.
What?
Don't play games with me.
I'm so serious.
Well, Jeff and I set
this whole thing up.
Well, now, that's a lie.
Don't be a buzz kill, Jeff!
Hey, can I talk
to you for a sec?
What was it?
Was it my facial hair?
Was it the way I walk?
It was your uniform.
Really?
Hey, babe, we gotta go.
My mom is locked
in her car again.
- Oh.
- Huh?
Okay. Are her keys inside?
My mom's stuck in the car,
the keys are on the
outside of the car.
But isn't she with your sister?
Yes, but my mom's
stuck in the car,
the keys are on the
outside of the car,
my sister is in the store.
Oh, okay.
- Bye, guys!
- Bye, Rebecca!
Good luck with that ankle!
You're so gullible, Jeff.
I was a joking.
All right, Jeff,
I'm back to my
neighborhood watch.
Hey, kids, get off
of that trampoline!
Bye.
My man.
Oh, well, there he is.
Now, why did you go into hiding?
Yeah, man, so, what did I miss?
What did you miss?
You missed getting
me my toolbox.
Yeah, whatever.
So, what did LeAnn say about me?
What?
Enough with LeAnn.
Charlie!
Oh, well, I have to go.
But it was fun.
See y'all later.
Did you have fun?
I did!
See, I told you.
You need to start
trusting me more often.
The queen of fun here.
And what does that make me?
The king of nice hair.
- Hey!
- Just kidding.
Going to bed, Mom!
Hey, Haley.
Hey, Daniel.
What's wrong?
I can't believe
this is happening.
What?
My dad, your mom?
Oh, it's happening.
Our parents are going out on
a date, or, as my mom puts it,
"Just two reasonable adults
going to have lunch and coffee."
Well, ...
if I could pick anyone
for my dad to date,
I'm not saying that I am,
but your mom would
be a good choice.
Same here.
So, should we be happy for them?
I don't know.
My head hurts.
Good night!
Good night, Daniel.
Good night.
Good night, Dad.
- Hey!
- Hey.
How's it been?
Pretty good.
Pretty good? Yeah.
Oh, hey, you got
your bat this time,
you didn't leave it.
Yeah.
Pick 'em up!
He said pick 'em up!
Aw, you can't pick
your books up?
Man, get those outta here.
Leave me alone.
- Man, get out of here, kid!
- Yeah, run away.
All right, Dino's, let's go,
you're going to be late.
Keep it moving. Move!
You're need a
better filter than that.
Get to class.
Davis, ...
do you know that you
are the only freshman
in the history of this school
to ever play at a varsity level?
I am?
I can tell you, you haven't
disappointed me one bit.
Thanks, Coach.
I love the game.
I know you do,
just like your dad.
Man, Jeff could
play some baseball.
I heard.
Yeah, well, I always
thought he would go pro,
or at least semi-pro, you know?
- Yeah.
- I mean, you know,
you're his son and all.
And I wish I had, a son.
It depends if I met
the right lady in my life.
Coach?
Huh? What?
Can I go back to practice?
Yeah, yeah. Get, get,
get back to practice.
Oh yeah, by the way ...
Yeah, Coach?
You're the starting
pitcher tonight.
I am?
- Yeah.
- Thanks Coach!
Get her done!
Mr. Clarke?
Yes, Haley?
I'm finished with my quiz.
Okay. Just wait quietly.
Okay.
May I please go to the restroom?
Can it wait?
The bell will be
ringing in 10 minutes.
No sir, I have to go now.
Okay, fine, go.
Thank you!
Corie, sit up and stop
drooling on your quiz!
Part three.
What's up with the hoodie?
You think you're scary?
What's going on, Colby?
Ms. Young.
Ms. Young?
Daniel.
Oh my god!
I am so sorry.
I'm glad you came.
Does your dad know you're here?
- No.
- Okay.
I'm gonna call your
dad for you, okay?
Okay.
Yeah, you go to
Haley's room, okay?
And stay as long
as you want, okay?
Get back!
Move to the parking lot!
I've got a 1032,
multiple shots fired!
Hey, Daniel.
I know things may
seem rough right now,
but I promise you
they'll get better.
I just wanted to say
that I value our friendship
and that you mean
so much to me, for real.
I mean, when I first moved
here in the second grade,
you always had my
back and you gave me,
you gave me your chocolate milk,
mainly because
you're lactose intolerant
but I know you did it
because you cared too.
I wanted to let you know
that I pray for you every night.
I pray that your
parents work things out;
if not, that you have
the peace and strength
to go through with it.
I pray, that even if they don't,
you're still all right,
because you will be
all right, you know?
I also pray that you realize
no matter what happens
to us in the future,
I will be here for you.
Let's promise each other
not to ever let
tough times break us,
but to trust God through it,
so ...
we can make ourselves stronger.
By the way, yesterday was epic.
Always good
spending time with you.
Remember, we have forever to go.
P.S.
I got you something.
Check the front pocket
of your backpack.
Hey, Dad.
Hey, Danny.
I love you, son.
I love you too, Dad.
You're not alone.
What's this?
Haley left it in my
backpack for me.
Oh, wow.
That's really special.
There's,
there's somebody here
that wants to see you.
Mom.
Hey, buddy!
I'm sorry about
your friend Haley.
I'm here now.
She's gone, Mom!
I know, sweetheart, I know.
We love you, Danny.
Daniel, along with the
community, grieved.
Things began to change
in the coming weeks.
Parents became a
little more attentive
and the kids' eyes began to
open up to what really mattered.
I think that's ...
Oh, hey, Alex!
Hey! You left your
backpack at home.
I wanted to bring it to you
before you got to school.
'Kay, totally forgot about it.
No worries, I understand.
Y'all have been through a lot.
Well, I gotta get to work.
Try to beat traffic. I
don't want to be late.
See you soon?
Be careful.
Your step mom is pretty
cool, cool.
I said cool!
What?
I swear, I promise I said cool.
Guys, I don't know if I'm
ready to go back to school.
I know it was three weeks ago,
but it feels like
it was yesterday.
Yeah, it doesn't even seem real.
You know, I've seen
Colby around school, but
didn't really know he was
feeling that way, though.
I still can't get those
images out of my head.
The sound of those gunshots
ring in my ear every day.
How about the look on his face?
The look of pain,
hurt, desperation?
I've been there before.
Have you talked
to anyone about it?
No, I don't think anyone
would understand.
Tell your parents.
They might understand.
If you can't tell them,
tell an adult you trust.
I'm finding it the most
dangerous to stay quiet, 'kay?
He's right, Mal,
or it will get worse.
I'm seeing it happen to my
mom because of my dad passing.
Okay.
This incident is definitely waking
me up to my own problems.
I'll talk to my parents.
Speaking of talking,
has anyone talked to
Daniel since this happened?
Him and Haley were so close.
Yeah, a couple of times a
few of us went over to his house
and got him out.
He didn't ever say much,
but I know it means a lot
that we're there, you know?
Yeah.
What's up, losers?
Derrick!
Sorry guys, he can be a bit
of a jerk sometimes.
Sometimes?
Shut up, Quinn.
- Whatever.
- Cool.
Hey, Corey.
Hey, Angel.
What's your name?
Mallory.
Cool, nice to meet you.
And that's Charlie.
Oh, I know Charlie.
We walk to school
together sometimes, well,
if I'm not running late.
Okay.
So you little dinosaurs
ready to go back
to the kill zone today
after your three week vacation?
Derrick, stop it!
Put the knife up!
Kill zone?
Vacation?
C'mon, man, people died!
This wasn't a vacation at all.
Now, I know y'all's school closed like ours did
because we're pretty close to y'all,
but there was nothing fun or
funny about what happened!
Hey, no, look at me!
Hey, look, look! Look at me!
Look at me! Look at me!
I was in that hallway!
And I seen the pain
on that kid's face
because there are people like you
who think things like this is a game!
Yeah, I've done some
crying and reflecting on
during this vacation
because I know I
should have done better,
and you should too.
All right, man,
like, just chill out!
No, you chill!
All right, guys, let's go.
Let's get outta here.
Hey, Corey, look at me.
It's okay.
Derrick is a big jerk and will
probably never understand.
Those kids over
at Eagle City High
have no idea how we feel.
I think you got your
point across, though.
Let's head to school.
We don't wanna be late.
Good Morning, everyone, I'm Janet McKenzie
with KK428 Channel 76 News.
I'm currently standing outside
of T-Rex Titans High School,
were just two weeks ago a high school student
by the name of Colby Walters opened fire,
killing one student
and three teachers,
injuring several others.
We've since been
told by investigators
that they uncovered posts
on Walters social
media accounts saying,
"They're all out to get me,"
"No one is my friend,"
"I am tired of
being talked about,"
and, "I have to figure
out a way to make it stop".
What happened next
has sent us all into a shock
and the community was
in a world of disarray.
You feeling ready
for this, Danny?
I believe so.
I'm proud of you, son.
Dad, can I ask you a question?
Of course, anything.
Mom, she isn't
coming back, is she?
Daniel!
Daniel!
Daniel!
Man, I got so many
marshmallows, you're gonna get sick.
Who's ready for a camp fire?
Daniel?
Anne.
Anne?
What, are you doing here?
Is Daniel not home?
No.
He went with some of
Haley's church friends.
They came over and
left about an hour ago.
Oh.
Oh.
Okay. That's, that's
probably good, anyway.
He's, he needs to
get out of the house,
he's been cooped up
here for about a week.
Yeah, I, I know.
While you've been at work I've
stopped by to see him every day.
What?
You've been here?
I thought you left
the day of the funeral.
I was going to, but I couldn't
leave him like that, Jeff.
He was hurting.
I mean, he still is.
So am I.
Anne, ...
Please don't.
I cannot do this right now.
This is it?
Can you tell Daniel
I'm sorry I had to leave?
I told him I would be
here when he got home.
This is it, Anne?
Can you also tell him
that I love him so much?
Anne,
you don't just get to throw
away your family like that!
No!
No, no, no!
You do not get to
do that to me, Jeffrey!
No!
We've been married for 15 years.
The first five or
six were great.
You were a wonderful husband.
But the last 10,
you have done nothing
but put that shop before me.
You were always working!
Anne, wait.
Let's just sit and talk.
I've done nothing but wait.
I am tired of waiting.
It's just an endless cycle of,
of empty apologies
that lead nowhere
but back to square one.
It's, like you've kicked
me to the side, and you,
I'm invisible you ...
- I have not
kicked you to the side.
- Yes, you did!
Anne, I had to work!
I had to work to
provide for our family!
Have you not seen
the endless bills
that we've been racking up?
Just even trying to
pay for this house?
That doesn't just appear,
someone's gotta
make that happen!
I'm not gonna apologize
for working for my family!
But what about the
people in the house?
I'm tired, Jeff.
I am tired of being last,
I am tired of being alone,
and I am tired of not
being enough for you.
I'm tired.
I'm going back to
my mom's in Virginia.
Take care of our boy.
No.
Danny, Mom's not coming back.
I thought so.
But that's okay.
It's okay that Mom's
not coming back.
And ...
it's okay that Haley's
not here with us.
Because, son, just
'cause Haley's not here,
she'll always be here.
And no one can take that away.
A broken town
now trying to put the
pieces back together.
One thing is for certain:
prayers for healing and
strength are much needed
during these difficult time.
Janet McKenzie,
KK428 Channel 76 News.
I know that you are
all filled with questions,
anger, sadness, and hurt.
A tragedy happened
and lives were taken
from people that we love
and care about.
You might be wondering,
"How did he get a gun?
Where did he get it from?"
But let's talk about how we can
stop this from happening more!
Show of hands,
how many of you have
ever been talked about
or bullied in some way?
That's right, so have I.
Around the world,
there are people hurting
and we are taught to
mask it and put it aside!
As a society,
we do more tearing people
down than we do building up!
Love is the answer!
Be kind, help each other out.
If someone needs a shoulder
to cry on, give 'em one.
Stick up for one another!
If you see someone drop
something, help them pick it up.
Yeah, and I hear
what you're saying.
It doesn't show weakness,
it only shows that
you're stronger.
Be relentlessly
caring for each other!
That is my challenge to you.
You are beautifully
and wonderfully made.
Daniel, how are you doing today?
Well ...
Oh, a mosquito in a wheelchair.
That's funny. So funny.
Hold on. Excuse me.
Mr. Willie!
Mr. Willie!
- Oh, where am I at?
- Can you get out?
- Oh, I am sorry, ma'am.
Let me just get going.
I'm sorry.
How are you doing?
I know a lot of
people fell victim
to the shooting
incident that happened
around three weeks ago.
That they did.
So I wanted to start a club.
A club?
What kind of club?
One that provides help and
support for those in need.
Okay.
What would you call this club?
Hey, Haley.
Hey, Danny.
I'll be done in a minute.
It's cool.
- You be safe, okay?
- We will.
- Daniel?
- We will.
Okay. I'll see
you in a little bit.
Have you talked to
your mom since she left?
Nope, I haven't heard
anything from her
What are we doing?
We have to go help him!
No, those guys are trouble.
- Let's get outta here.
- No!
No one deserves to
be treated like that.
Hey, Haley.
What's wrong?
I can't believe
this is happening.
What?
One would think you're
gonna leave me or something.
Wait. You're not
moving, are you?
No, I'm not going anywhere.
I'll be by your side forever.
I know.
You seem to be the
only thing in my life.
She's gone, Mom.
I know, sweetheart.
I know.
Forever and a Day.
Forever and a Day.
I like that.
And to this day,
Daniel fights for
awareness and spreads love.
