Geostorm (2026) Movie Script
1
[clatter]
What?
What the...
What the...
[shouts]
Oh, did you...
Oh!
Hi, its Molly Martin.
I cant get to the phone.
Leave me a message
and Ill get back to you.
Molly, you were right about the geostorm.
Its amazing, but we need to track
what other phenomena are happening.
God, it was just floating in the air.
I was just staring at it
like some Neanderthal
that had just seen
television for the first time.
Im headed home.
Tonight is the night, I can feel it.
Call me back.
Im gonna start tracking and
see how large the readings get.
[beeping]
Its looking good.
Shit, its moving really fast.
What?
MOLLY:
Hello?
Molly, its Nijat.
The CME hit early.
If it keeps going, well
have global disasters.
Its moving faster
than your research model.
Ive got readings off the charts.
Ive got...
[phone disconnect tone]
Its beautiful.
[screams]
The kids are meeting us
at Nijats to get readings
and figure out where
and whats gonna hit next.
Molly?
You okay?
Molly?
I know he was your friend.
I get it.
Ive clocked over a hundred
tremors over the past six hours.
Okay.
And Nijat, he said, geostorm.
He wouldnt have concluded that
if the numbers didnt add up.
Right.
The earthquakes that were experiencing.
The temperature drops.
The ocean currents,
theyre all over the map.
We need to warn the administration.
But without R.E.A.C.T.,
they wont listen to us.
We need hard evidence, and
I know well find it at Nijats.
Molly?
Im fine.
Okay.
I want my computers,
and I want my company back.
What would all those computers
tell you that you dont already know?
How am I gonna know that now, huh?
Come on.
This isnt you, Molly.
David Diaz took R.E.A.C.T. from
me.
Yes.
He took all of my equipment,
my research, my whole life.
You know, I was really building
towards something, and now...
You dont need all that gear.
You got us.
You got us.
God.
This whole house is completely destroyed.
This is not a good sign.
I set up the array.
Connectors on backwards.
Thats why your signal
to noise is tanking.
Im not a scientist.
She knows that.
I shouldnt even be here.
Thats fine.
Why isnt Clay doing this?
Your brothers over
there doing science stuff.
Hey, dont let her get
under your skin, okay?
Youre just as qualified to be here.
Yeah?
My liberal arts degree is really
helping next to your multiple PhDs.
I could help you weave a basket.
I have two PhDs and Im still replaceable
by AI with three prompts.
Your basket weaving
has another two minutes.
Okay, Einstein.
Just help me turn this connector around.
Okay. This goes here...
Mom.
Look at the grass.
The dendritic pattern
from the strike point,
it looks like it radiated
from the ground, not from above.
Well, lightning doesnt
come from the ground.
Didnt they teach you at...
What college did you go to again?
Funny.
You know, Id love to go to school,
but Im too busy helping
my family stop disasters.
For some reason,
they just keep happening.
Molly?
Solar wind speeds picked
up 600 kilometers per second.
Proton densities through the roof.
Magnetometers are pinging like crazy.
We shouldnt be seeing this.
Auroras are northern lights.
This is too far south.
The CMEs massive magnetic fields
are reacting with our own.
Thats why we can see the auroras.
Okay, so then what is it?
Geostorm.
A geomagnetic storm.
The heat it would take to make
an imprint like this is enormous.
Could lightning do that?
Not normal lightning.
Mom.
These are Nijats notes.
Travis?
Travis Hayes?
Wait, the Travis Hayes?
Do you know him?
That sounds like a story.
Please.
We went to Berkeley together.
We did a few Peace Corps
runs together. Its nothing.
Was that before or after he won his first
or second Nobel Prize in mathematics?
Clay, I found this in the rubble.
Make sure the memory card is intact.
If its not, then the last
90 days of work are useless.
Lets get back and figure out
why this geostorm
is growing so large.
And what about the card?
The data box only
suffered superficial damage.
So if we take it back
to the lab, I can open it.
Is there anyone left in the house?
Nijat lived alone.
I found his ring.
He never took it off,
even after Sadia passed.
Mom, Im so sorry about your friend.
Im sorry, Mom.
- Im sorry, Molly.
Hey, you want some company?
Everything just vanished.
No warning.
Just gone.
The neighborhood...
The house.
People.
Nijat.
Its a lot.
Not his journals.
And I just...
I feel like theres an
answer in here somewhere.
So you can use these?
Im trying to, but it just feels like a
math problem that I cant figure out.
Well, why do you have to figure it out?
I mean, who else is going to?
David Diaz?
Davids a tool.
Hes short-sighted.
You know, maybe hes surrounded himself
with a lot of smart people this time.
You dont have to save the
world again and again and again.
And you dont have to do it alone.
Im sorry. I cant stop.
I cant stop.
I feel like everything
thats happened so far
is just building to something really big.
And I dont know how
were going to survive this.
Your family. Us.
We have our strengths.
We want to support you.
Were here for you.
Use us.
I know. I just want
everybody to be safe.
I do, too.
I do, too.
Sunspots.
What?
Sunspots.
Come on.
[door opens]
How you doing?
Huh? Oh... Um...
I got the memory card out and intact.
And Im trying to
see whats on it, but...
Trouble?
It isnt password protected.
Thats interesting.
But theres three security questions.
And if I answer any of them
wrong, everythings deleted.
Well, try me.
Maybe I can help.
Okay.
What do you do when your round of golf
is interrupted by lightning?
Undoubtedly, Travis golf humor.
No one plays, but he did,
so no one got the joke.
Use a one iron.
Even God cant hit a one iron.
Dumb, I know.
One dash iron.
One iron worked.
- Nice.
Okay, next question.
Who is the Wilbur Hall cat?
It was a stray cat we all used to feed.
He would roam the commons.
I keep thinking his name is Chowderface.
Carrotcake.
Yeah, long story.
It worked!
Okay, two down.
Okay, last question.
Think youre faster than me?
Whats the measure...
Eject that card now.
Clay, right now.
No, no, the card is self-deleting data.
[phone rings]
Travis, its Judy. Again.
I know you have a mssive Nobel trophy.
But you also owe me four months rent.
[beeping]
Unknown device.
Youre not getting Nijats
info that easily.
Whoa, what?
What the...
Whoa.
Holy, that was the longest one yet.
The readings are accurate.
2.53 seconds.
That is a measurable loss of gravity.
In your face, Isaac Newton.
[sirens blaring]
You know, I was very instrumental
in all that funding.
I told President Carlson
that day that when he...
What?
We got it.
Another gravitational anomaly.
A big one.
2.53 seconds?
Thats insane.
Dr. James, send
Director Nakami the data.
I mean, this is incredible.
These are off-the-chart gravity pulls.
Finally, we can quantify their existence
and get the Paladin
project off the ground.
We can prevent these geostorms for good.
We have the proof.
Emergency dispatch in Roanoke.
Lit up with 911 calls of people
and things lifting off the ground.
And this was after a magnitude
6.2 in Tramway, North Carolina
took everyone by surprise.
Its just 163 miles
between the two locations.
Both events only three months after
the weightlessness
incident in Wilmington.
Natasha, there is a pattern
emerging here.
We need to move forward
with the Paladin project.
Okay.
This is good, but...
- No buts!
Sorry.
The proposal that I laid out
for the Paladin project
has everything in there
to stop this geostorm.
We launch a set of magnetic
sails at the size and
the gauge specs that I proposed,
then we can stop this storm.
Its not enough, David.
I need more ground data that points
to concrete evidence for an
actual solution, not theory.
The Paladin project is not theory.
My sails will reflect
and reduce the effects
of solar flares hitting the Earth.
Without it, I dont know
where we'll be in a year.
FEMA is overseeing disaster response
for multiple catastrophes.
Lightning storm,
earthquakes, you name it.
The presidents even launching a program
to get citizens to help us.
Thats how strapped we are.
This is...
preventative...
speculative at best.
I agree.
But per the president,
I am under your jurisdiction.
Without Paladin project
to stop this geostorm,
the entire East Coast is
going to be destroyed
and millions of people are going to die!
So please, help me.
Help FEMAs R.E.A.C.T. program.
Help everyone.
You want to launch Paladin?
You get me the support
I need in explaining
why this should be approved and funded.
She cant do that.
She loves playing gatekeeper.
Ill talk directly with the president.
Ill tell him that
he needs to make R.E.A.C.T.
an independent body from FEMA.
You can do that?
- Of course I can.
Yeah.
My fellow Americans, we have weathered
ice and inferno, earthquake and despair.
I stood shoulder
deep in the frozen darkness
of that killer ice storm.
And I rose from the dead a better man.
Not the president chosen by
the people, but by divine power.
And I take on this role
with humble gratitude.
Even though I am ready to
lay down my life for America,
I know our country needs more
than just one man in this fight.
It feels like only yesterday this country
weathered catastrophic
disasters on the same level.
Yet we made it through.
This time will be just as tough.
But we will do it together.
I am honored to introduce
the Rebuild America program.
Rebuild infrastructure.
Restore power.
Defend our future.
Resistance is not dissent.
Its surrender.
We will not thumb our nose at the brave
men and women who
sacrificed their very lives
to keep our country safe
so that we may have a future.
Now, more than ever, we owe
it to them to rebuild America
even better and keep the dream
of a more perfect union alive.
This is not sacrifice.
Its opportunity.
Those who answer the call
will receive training,
resources, and the gratitude of a nation.
Those who hesitate will
have plenty of time to reflect
on what it means to truly be an American.
God bless you.
And God bless the
United States of America.
Mr. President, Dr. David Diaz
is on the phone for you.
Who?
Dr. Diaz from R.E.A.C.T.,
the team that responds
to natural disasters.
I know who he is.
So, youve seen the commercial.
What do you think?
I like it.
Hopefully, it will get
everyone to enlist.
Not too authoritarian?
America is going through
too many disasters.
It needs a strong hand.
A strong hand.
That could be a campaign slogan.
Okay, lets go.
Lets release the commercial immediately.
And, uh, the Diaz guy,
can you get somebody else
to take the call, please?
- Yes, sir.
A strong hand.
I like it.
Do you know anything about sunspots?
Would it affect the tides?
Thats the moon.
- Right. Then, no.
I know nothing.
Well, uh, Travis and Nijat were...
They were tracking one.
A cluster.
It was pretty big.
Its been visible for a couple months.
The... The aurora
that lit up the sky?
Perhaps its all connected.
I dont know why theyre so severe,
but these sunspots could be
the source of the geostorm.
Then maybe that has
something to do with the...
the low gravity that we all witnessed.
Well, that would sort of wrap it up
in a pretty little package, wouldnt it?
Yeah.
Wishful thinking, huh?
Yeah.
Now, I know things havent been ideal
between us lately, and you hate corny,
but I have something for you.
Well, you are just full of surprises.
Oh, no.
Its our anniversary.
Im so sorry, Eric.
No, no.
Its okay.
Weve had a lot of challenges
these last three months,
but if theres one thing Ive learned
that I cant take for granted,
its our marriage and our family.
Or gravity.
Especially gravity, yeah.
These are so beautiful.
You know, its a species that
blooms in very harsh conditions.
Thats why they grow in pairs.
Were facing incredible challenges.
But if we cant fight for ourselves or
our family, whats the point of fighting?
And there is nothing we cant overcome.
Just like those flowers.
You should have been a writer.
I could listen to you talk all day.
Oh, come on.
Just a few minutes ago,
you wanted to kill me.
Oh, dont ruin the moment.
Okay.
Oh, sorry to interrupt.
Where are you going?
Chrissy wants to go back
and see where she can help.
Theres a lot of
evacuations going on there.
Are you sure its safe?
Yes. Well stay
in the evacuation zones
and we have our meters.
She is prepared.
Id feel helpless waiting around.
I need to do something.
I have too much of Mom in me.
Happy anniversary.
So yeah, I guess I should
go call Travis Hayes.
Oh, well, okay.
I need to get back to work.
Good.
- Good.
Happy anniversary.
Hey, give me a hand over here.
Today is the first day we all
rise to meet this challenge.
The Rebuild America program begins now.
Every citizen is a soldier in this fight.
Sign up for the Rebuild America program.
America needs a strong hand.
I just, I dont even
want to hear him speak.
Do you know that if you dont join that
volunteer program,
you can get sent to jail?
Yeah, I know.
But I guess people really need
work and food and shelter, so...
I mean, at least this gives them that.
Yeah, fine.
Okay, then make it volunteer.
Not difficult.
Im not disagreeing.
Sounds like you are.
You know what?
How about when this is all over,
you and me just go...
somewhere safe, by yourselves, and...
just have a nice time.
Just us.
Yeah?
Yeah, thatd be great.
Are you okay?
Yeah, um... Im just worried.
About what?
Come on, you can talk to me.
Maybe I can help.
You dont always have to keep
everything bottled up inside.
I think my brothers hiding.
Felix?
Yeah, hes...
Hes been drafted into that
Rebuild America program,
and hes not really a fan of
President Carlson or the program.
I just...
I dont think you should get
thrown in jail because of it.
Why didnt you tell me?
Yolanda, maybe we could help.
How? Your parents are
literally being ostracized
by the people that theyre saving.
I mean, they have no connections.
Then, I dont know, maybe
he can come work for us?
No, no, Ive asked him.
He doesnt want the help.
Im sure we can figure this out.
No, not everything needs to be
figured out, Chrissy.
I mean, if we try hard enough...
No, stop! Okay?
Please, just...
Look, my brother and I
dont always see eye to eye.
Okay?
Even on our best days.
And I just...
Lets just go where
were needed. Okay?
Okay.
[pounding]
MAN:
Knock again.
Yeah?
Hello.
Molly!
And friends.
What took you so long to come see me?
Wait till you hear what happened.
Come in, come in, come in.
- You were expecting us?
Yeah, you opened up the questions.
I floated for 2.53 seconds.
What?
- Yeah, come in, come in.
Sit down, sit down.
Travis, thats incredible.
Its impossible.
Im like a superhero, except I float.
Im a floating superhero.
Did you bring my memory card?
This is my son, Clay.
Clay.
- Big fan.
Oh, Clay, thank you.
Well, I see Mollys been
the one talking about me.
Not this guy.
So you still havent shaken
the old kiwi off the tree?
Im not from that island, boy.
Im Australian.
I left there when I was 24 years old.
Ah, just because you lost the
accent doesnt change things.
Alright, you guys ready to jump in?
I still havent cracked why the CMEs
are so intense and consistent.
Data shows atmospheric
electricity keeps increasing.
Yeah, the energy has to go somewhere
when it hits the planet.
Thats why the lightning
storm got so intense.
And took Nijat from us.
The energy from that solar
material seems to be building.
Building?
Building where?
Above us, below us.
The entire east coast?
Yes.
So youre saying whatever happens
on the ground can
affect the air, the sky?
Kind of, but the other way around.
The solar flares are aggravating
the gravitational pulls.
Theyre affecting the earthquakes.
And thats when the
gravitational failure hit.
It lasts about 2.53 seconds.
And then theres a quick drop
in barometric pressure,
about 10 to 15 millibars.
So if this energy is building
up, what does that mean?
Hundreds of fault lines on
the east coast can be triggered.
The next CMEs that come through here will
have enough strength
as a whole roll of them.
Yeah, based on all this data,
in less than 48 hours,
a massive X-class solar flare will erupt.
The east coast wont survive that.
Travis, you said there was a
10 to 15 millibar decrease
in barometric pressure before.
Im seeing a 25 millibar
drop in your readings now.
Yeah, I see two in Wirtz, Virginia.
Wirtz, wheres that?
Uh, about 20 miles south.
Take the 240 through Franklin County.
How are we going to stop this?
Those earthquakes are
going to be everywhere.
We need to go to
R.E.A.C.T. and warn them.
They wont listen.
We can be of more help in the field.
Lets head out, see what we can do.
Travis, you coming?
I think Im gonna...
if thats...
if thats rude, Im sorry, but I
dont do good out in the field.
I can be more of a help monitoring here.
I have a system.
Its just, it works better.
Im gonna stay too.
I just, um...
I just... I dont want
to go outside right now.
And I think if I stay, I can help and...
Like I said, dude, I have a system.
It works better.
- Travis...
Fine, fine, fine.
He can stay.
Theres a lot to keep track of
so I guess he can help this once.
Just this once.
And dont touch my stuff.
Okay.
All right, lets go.
Bye.
Go get him, kid.
Alright, well...
Welcome aboard, Clay.
Have a seat, my friend.
Travis...
Am I reading this right?
Yeah, those coordinates are Philadelphia.
Its an 8.1 magnitude.
Nearly 6 seconds with peak
ground acceleration of 1.7 G.
Those are Northridge 94 numbers.
Why are we finding out
about this after the fact?
The Ramapo Fault is
closest to the epicenter
but its still 80 miles
south of the city.
Fine.
This is great.
This is perfect.
It is?
Yes, were going to Philadelphia.
We are?
There are multiple
weather anomalies in Philly.
We need to see them firsthand.
Pull over.
Theres no way this was
caused by an earthquake.
Think a hurricane did this?
No, the trees are intact.
It cant be the wind.
So youre saying
the gravitational pull thing,
thats what did this?
Whoa, Molly, hold it.
Hey, wait, wait, wait a minute.
The gravitational pull is gone.
The trains upright.
Its not floating.
Molly, it can still fall over.
Damn it!
What was that?
I dont know.
Look.
- What is it?
Look at that.
What is it?
The elevated geomagnetic
activity is all over this place.
[electric shock]
- Ooh!
This isnt good.
No.
No, it certainly isnt.
If this is happening out here,
then major cities near fault lines
all across the mid-Atlantic
are in danger.
And it could be catastrophic.
[dog barks]
All right.
Mom?
- Go for mom.
A lot of infrasound sensors are
detecting 15 hertz waves at 170 decibels.
Clay, how are you reading that?
Those numbers are from NASA.
Yeah, I kind of hacked those.
Does that make me a bad person?
What does that mean?
It means the universe
is giving us a tell.
Its like a bad poker player
at a blackjack table.
Its telling us something
before something lousy happens.
By measuring tectonic plate vibrations,
it can predict earthquakes and...
Oh, no.
Now Im seeing seismic activity.
Philadelphia is lighting up.
Come on, we gotta go.
Where?
- Philadelphia.
Yolanda.
Okay.
Youll be okay.
What happened?
What...
Oh, no.
Where?
Philadelphia.
There was a major earthquake.
I think the Red Cross
has it handled here.
Come on.
We have to go.
[sirens blaring]
[honking]
Man, this is nuts.
MAN:
Help!
Where are you going?
Someone needs help!
And theyll get it, but not from us.
That is not our job.
This is.
But, David...
- We need to focus.
Well set up camp over there.
The quicker we can get these
readings, the quicker
we can get back to Wallops Labs
and save billions of people.
Thats the better plan rather
than blowing it on one person.
Now move!
What was that?
I dont know.
Lets just show the government
Paladin is the only option.
This is crazy.
The devastation of this
city is... Its horrible.
People are gonna need help.
We need to do something.
What was that?
Was that lightning?
Ive never seen anything like that.
I think it was an electromagnetic surge.
I dont think its safe to drive.
Come on, lets get our stuff
and check out the rest
of the city on foot.
Mr. President, the earthquake
in Philadelphia.
While extraordinary, its only the start
of what could be
a series of similar incidents
across the eastern part of the country.
Why is that?
What happened?
It starts with the sun.
It continues to launch
excessive amounts of
material causing large
amounts of geostorms.
Geostorms?
Solar-driven storms that
fry the Earths ionosphere,
causing everything from
earthquakes to gravity loss.
Gravity loss?
Localized gravitational
collapse because of
the curvature of the
planet and the ionosphere.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Where are these storms?
At NASA, we have
confirmed theyre isolated
to the east coast,
but theyre getting bigger.
Weve got under 24 hours
before it completely
takes over the entire eastern seaboard.
Why am I hearing about this now?
Mr. President, weve never
seen anything like this before.
No one has.
Were just now connecting the dots.
The informations
coming in fast and furious,
and were collecting accurate data
to bring to you so you can
act swiftly and accurately.
Solutions.
Longshot.
Dr. David Diaz from R.E.A.C.T.
He has what he calls the Paladin Project.
Its a series of giant umbrellas that,
when deployed, blocks the sun spots
and stops the geostorms.
Umbrellas?
Titanium umbrellas, sir.
Thats the best we got?
Scientifically, thats the best we got.
Okay, how long?
Umbrellas are ready to launch.
You say go, we can be up in
space in less than two hours.
Well, lets go and get
this done then, kids.
Yes, Mr. President.
P waves arriving early.
That shouldnt happen.
Vertical acceleration?
Spiking, straight up.
Gravimeter?
Fluctuating, but it could be noise.
Or it could be the first clean
data that weve ever had.
Log it in and wrap it up.
We need a hit while of now.
Is that Molly Martins kid?
Oh, FEMAs here.
You guys come with me.
Ill take care of this.
Great.
Oh, no, lets go a different way.
Just be cool, okay?
Okay, fine.
This is a surprise.
Why?
We actually do work.
The surprise is that youre here.
Okay, look, this isnt productive.
Its a big city.
Well just go somewhere else.
Dr. Diaz, the body we found
is conducting electricity.
You need to stay away from
anything conducting electricity.
Shes right. Its usually
a source of electricity.
Its not on a source of anything.
Its its own source.
Its creating its own electricity.
The excess from
electrons from the sunspots.
The current is still underground.
But the body is conducting
it through the rubble.
Wait, what?
Energy is being created
from the atmosphere
and through fissures from the quake.
How do you know about this?
This is my research, not yours.
Excuse me?
Your research?
I dont think youve done a day
of research in your life.
Thats enough.
Can you please just give us a minute?
Im gonna go to the car and find people
who actually need my help.
Chrissy!
The Paladin Project,
Before Molly lost R.E.A.C.T.?
Its gonna happen.
And I want you there.
We are ready to launch.
Just waiting to hear from the President.
What?
Youre wasting your
time with this family.
Join me and the R.E.A.C.T. team.
Okay?
We have the tech, the funding.
Were ready to go.
We can stop these geostorms
with the Paladin Project.
Isnt that what you want?
I know you love Chrissy.
But if she loves you,
she knows youll be happier
doing the right thing.
Think about it.
But not too long.
Were collecting data here and then
we have to leave the launch site.
Two hours.
The answer is still no, David.
And Molly didnt
lose R.E.A.C.T.
Who took it from her?
Lets go.
Mr. President,
Im requesting
we make Project Paladin go live.
Paladin is a go.
Head to Wallops and get started.
[rumbling]
We need to hit Wallops now.
Rachel? David?
[shrieking]
[honking]
[screaming]
Chrissy?
[phone rings]
Yolanda, where are you?
Downtown Philadelphia.
The gravitational pulls
and then these cars,
they all just started lifting and then...
Are you talking about the earthquakes?
I just... We were...
- Wheres Chrissy?
Ill track her location.
[static]
We were talking to David Diaz and then
she walked away and...
- We cant hear you.
We found Chrissys phone location.
You just stay there.
Were gonna pick you up.
The President gave us clearance
to go forward with Paladin.
And Im only gonna ask
each of you for one thing.
Your best.
We just won the coin toss.
Okay?
All right.
Okay?
- Okay.
All right.
Capcom, report.
Secure satellite
communication relay established.
We can tap Nevada in as well.
And we have backups
prepared just in case.
DPS, are we online yet?
We are online.
Rachel, keep an eye on storm shifts.
Anything that will
interfere with this launch.
Im on it, Dr. Diaz.
Rachel, initiate countdown.
These numbers...
- Suck.
The Paladin project...
- Isnt gonna work.
Probability-wise, it doesnt look good.
But thats our only hope.
It has to work, otherwise
everyone on the East Coast...
It...
- The numbers dont lie.
Well, then whats plan B?
Popcorn.
Excuse me?
- Popcorn. Im gonna make some.
You want some?
No, no.
We need to fix this.
Do you want butter on it?
Because, I mean, thats
all popcorn really is, right?
Its a vessel of all that
butter and deliciousness.
Really good popcorn.
Can you focus?
Please?
Look, were eight billion
ants holding onto a rock,
spinning a thousand miles an hour,
slingshotting around the sun,
and right now that rock is getting fried
by a solar tantrum big enough
to make extinction look efficient.
Okay, so sometimes,
sometimes popcorn is the solution.
This popcorns nice and tasty.
You wont regret it.
I really hope Mom and Dad
come up with something soon.
Molly! Hey!
Oh my God! Im so sorry!
I dont know where she went!
She was with me one second
and then she was gone the next.
I dont know!
Were gonna find her.
Wait...
Oh my God.
Oh my God, thats her car!
Okay, lets go.
- We gotta go.
Shes up there!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy!
Chrissy!
Chrissy!
Come on, move it, move it!
Chrissy!
Hold on, guys. Hold on.
My phone says shes here.
- Yeah, mine too.
Found the car, guys.
12th floor. Lets go.
The CME data has changed.
The wind intensity
has increased by 0.3.
DPS, onboard status.
Status!
- Go for launch.
10 minutes.
10 minutes.
- 10 minutes to launch.
Auto sequence start.
Launch command is
now yours, Dr. Diaz.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait!
Stop! Stand back! Stand back!
One wrong move, the car goes over, guys.
We need to balance the car.
Or tie it off on something.
Tie it?
Tie it with what?
Find something!
Cables or extension cords,
whatever you have.
Chrissy!
Can you hear me?
Chrissy, wake up!
Wake up, Chrissy!
Hurry up!
Chrissy!
I found something. Lets go.
- Lets tie it around here.
Lets go wrap it around there.
Give me some slack.
Give me some slack.
Hold it. Hold it.
Hold it.
Hold on, guys.
Chrissy, were going
to get you out of there.
Give me some slack.
Hold on to it.
Hold on to it!
Chrissy!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy, wake up!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy!
Youve got to wake up.
Lets go. Lets go.
He got her.
He got her.
Here comes the car!
We got her.
Youre okay.
Youre okay. Youre okay.
Im sorry.
Im so sorry.
Lets go. Lets go, guys.
Come on.
The buildings going.
The buildings going.
Lets go.
Lets go.
All personnel, stand by for launch.
T minus ten seconds.
All systems functional.
Ignition go.
- Initiate main ignition start.
T minus five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
We have ignition.
Yes!
Woo!
[applause]
Its taking off.
It might actually work.
This is good popcorn.
Damn straight.
Is there any more back there?
Popcorn? Bra!
Add a little butter.
On it.
Paladin has passed the moon belt.
Transmit signal is strengthening.
Prepare for cell extension.
Keep heading alignment.
Okay, Paladin Two and Three.
Connect stations.
Prepare for supplemental wing lock.
Initiate magnetic dock parameters.
Paladin Three extender twelve.
35% extend.
Enable sail rigidity.
Sail rigidity established.
Sails are launched.
We did it!
Woo!
Great job, great job.
Thank you.
Its time to get the
president on the phone.
[phone rings]
This is Amy.
Initial estimates are showing
the sails are in place on schedule.
Dr. Diaz is on the phone.
Dr. Diaz, this is the president.
Mr. President, hello?
Blackout.
Uh, someone talk to me.
What just happened?
Data systems are offline.
Well call the backup.
Dr. Diaz...
Dr. Diaz?
Dr. Diaz?
Something must have happened.
The umbrellas are offline.
What do you mean the
umbrellas are offline?
Thats impossible.
Dr. Diaz, the solar
flares are too strong.
Umbrellas 6 through 14 have been
completely destroyed, sir.
Youre reading it wrong.
The geostorm is not stopping.
Its growing in magnitude.
What the hell is going on here?
Reserve gennies are firing up.
Dr. Diaz, do you smell that?
[lightning strikes]
Status report.
Initial reports suggest
that the deflections from
the umbrellas widen
the scope of the geostorm.
Widened?
- Globally.
Its moving more aggressively.
Its already hit Nevada and, uh...
Clay, youre not going to believe what
happened in Winnipeg, Jamaica, and...
Looks like Vegas.
This geostorm...
Its not going to just
stop the eastern seaboard.
Its...
- This is global. Yeah, yeah.
Thats ball lightning.
Right.
Ball lightning.
No, its only ever been
scientifically caught
on camera once.
If everyones seeing this, then...
Clay, Clay, its okay.
- No, no, no.
You dont understand.
I need to get a hold of my mom and dad.
I need to tell them.
Clay, Im sure they already know.
Natasha, the president will be
addressing the nation shortly.
You have five minutes.
You wanted to see me?
Im headed to the Wallops
Flight Facility in five.
Dr. Diaz missed
his mark, but so did
the rest of the scientists of the world.
Of course, Mr. President.
What is the current status
of the geostorms?
The geostorm targets
are seemingly random.
Were trying to figure out
how to stop them,
but its hit or miss.
From the info that we have,
were concerned
that this could go on for years.
But our core survival
resources, food, shelter,
water, will be gone in less than a month.
Quicker if the storm accelerates.
Its already accelerated.
Just depends on how we spin it.
Mr. President,
what are you planning
on saying to the nation?
I havent decided yet.
Ill come up with something.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Natasha.
You didnt tell the president about
Dr. Diaz and the
R.E.A.C.T. team at Wallops.
Its been over 45 minutes
with no communication.
I think we can assume no one survived.
Im headed to Wallops now.
Until I can confirm it and you hear
from me directly,
you know nothing. Understood?
Understood.
- Okay.
I knew R.E.A.C.T.s
magnetic sails would fail.
Instead of stopping the CMEs, it worked
as a bounce board for the flares.
So frustrating.
Davids smarter than that.
Yeah, obviously hes
not smarter than his ego.
When we get there, youll
set him straight, wont you?
The geostorm is moving
at an accelerated rate.
Its global now.
What if we cant convince him?
Well, then Ill have to kick
the living ego out of him.
Works for me.
My fellow Americans,
tonight I speak to you
with a heavy heart and
an unshakable resolve.
We are a nation born of resilience.
These past weeks have tested us
with earthquakes that split our soil,
solar flares that scorched our skies,
and storms that froze our cities.
These are not isolated acts of nature.
They are what scientists
are calling geostorms.
I will not lie to you.
Cloud covers thick.
Geomagnetic currents
are penetrating deeper.
Radiation is off the charts.
DSCOVRs telemetry is lacking
like a snail through peanut butter.
Were going to have to extrapolate
the CME from the rest of it.
Sunspot region AR4667.
It doubled again.
Its about to fire.
The last CME took about
14 hours to reach Earth.
If these projections hold,
were going to get hit
by another geostorm explosion
nearly twice the size
in less than 35 hours.
Thats enough to destroy the planet.
PRESIDENT: This is not
surrender. Its survival.
Its unreal.
Everythings destroyed.
What happened to the building?
Looks like it collapsed on itself.
I dont want you going in there.
Youll be more helpful
keeping watch down here,
especially if we need
someone to rescue us.
Please.
For me.
Well, um, well stay here.
Keep an eye out for David Diaz.
Okay.
If you sense anything
going south, just get out.
Unless its another
gravity pull and you need
to tie yourself to something locked down.
Promise?
If you find David, get him
in touch with Travis.
Travis knows what to do.
Okay.
Come on.
Its not working!
Networks fried.
Here, try it.
Use the radio.
Can you switch that off?
I cant deal with listening
to the president right now.
Mom? Dad?
Chrissy? Yolanda?
Is anyone there? Over.
PRESIDENT: When the
ground shakes, we stand.
You need to shut that off.
The CMEs must have knocked it
out when it hit Earth.
No, you need...
Its too much, okay?
Its too noisy.
I dont know where the clicker is.
Im trying to find the clicker.
No, no.
You need to shut it off!
Im trying. Im trying.
Im trying to shut it down.
Its off.
I powered it off.
Okay? I powered it off.
Its off.
No.
I cant. Im...
Im sorry, okay?
Im sorry. Im sorry.
Listen, its okay.
Its okay.
If you could rename the
moon, what would you call it?
What?
What would you name it?
I dont know.
Whatever comes to your mind.
No wrong answers.
What would you name it?
The sun.
Great.
Sit down.
Sit down.
When I see you, I see me.
The old version of me.
Alone.
Head full of static.
Always worrying that the worlds
watching every single twitch.
That weight, it will break you.
It will break you.
Im sorry.
I didnt...
Listen. Just listen.
Okay? Just listen.
If I could give my younger
self any advice,
it would be this.
All that over-correcting.
That wasted, wasted fuel.
Its...
Youll survive.
You will survive and you will wonder why
you carried all that weight
around all by yourself.
But if I dont carry it, then...
the world will...
What?
The world will what?
Once you know the
answer to that question,
youll find that peace.
All right?
You hear me?
Good.
Want some popcorn?
Lets have some popcorn.
- Yeah.
All right.
What do you think Chrissy meant
when she said you
could have been in there?
What do you mean?
- She said that to Yolanda.
Do you think Yolandas
gonna work for David?
Does it matter?
Yes.
He stole my company from me.
Well, she chose us.
But...
But you... But, Molly, stop.
Whatever youre thinking, okay?
Stop.
Yolandas an adult.
She loves Chrissy, she puts up with us,
and we are quite a handful.
So shes making her choices
in life, and guess what?
Shes here now with us.
Help! Hello!
- Do you hear that?
Is someone there?
Help!
The doors jammed!
Pull!
Molly?
What... What are you doing here?
Looking for you.
Dr. Martin, Im a huge fan.
Ive read all your court
cases and your books.
Thats enough.
Right, of course.
Molly, this is my husband, Eric.
How are you?
Good to meet you.
Oh, its like all of
R.E.A.C.T. is back together.
All were missing are your kids.
Are they here?
- Well, I...
The team is not back together.
Shes not a part
of R.E.A.C.T. anymore.
Molly, really, we need
to get out of here now.
For once, Davids right.
The buildings not safe.
We gotta go.
Lets go.
Wait.
We have nothing to discuss.
I know why the sails didnt work.
Its a moot point, okay?
You can launch again,
but not with the umbrellas.
Youre not coming
back to R.E.A.C.T.
This isnt about me.
I have no interest in being
a part of R.E.A.C.T. again.
Yeah, it doesnt sound like it.
This is about saving lives.
This is all gonna get so much
worse if we dont do something
and were running out of time.
Listen to me.
We cant stop the next CME,
but we can dampen its effects.
Molly, you are wasting your time.
We can do that using bulk metallic glass.
Its the same material NASA
used in 2001 for Genesis Probe.
The Genesis Probe was
for collection, not mitigation.
It can mitigate the impact
by absorbing the energy.
It wont leave a trace behind.
It wont pollute the atmosphere.
You know what?
Stay in your lane, okay?
This is my problem to figure out.
Oh my God, that building.
It looks like its gonna
collapse even more.
We have to get down and do something now.
Yeah. Yeah, youre right.
Lets go.
[rumbling]
Lets just keep going forward.
This way.
- Hey.
Are you okay?
Hey.
Im all right.
I just need a second.
Okay. Just stay right here.
Im gonna check everything out.
Okay. Okay...
Watch your step.
You guys, I found another set of stairs.
Me first.
You feel that?
Somethings wrong, I feel a little...
Yeah.
- Sort of woozy.
Its happening again.
Guys, Im not feeling too good.
Its another gravitational pull.
Im feeling kind of light-headed too.
[vomits]
- Hold on to something.
Brace yourself to the ground.
These stairs right here.
These stairs.
Im feeling dizzy...
the air.
Are you okay?
I feel like my feet are
lifting off the ground.
Hold on to me.
Go over there!
Hold on to something.
Gravity shifting.
Hold on tight!
Grab a hold of whatever you can.
Im lifting up off the ground.
Watch out!
- Just hold on! Hold on!
Dont move!
Hold it!
Shes lifting up off the ground!
Watch out!
David!
David, where are you going?
Hold onto something!
[screams]
You okay?
- Yeah, Im good.
You? Okay.
We have to get to them before
this whole building collapses.
We got you.
We got you.
Ty, are you okay?
Yeah, Im all good.
All right, I think its stabilizing.
Okay.
- Were okay.
Okay. Okay.
I think its done.
Okay, lets go.
Okay.
Do you smell that?
What is it?
Its sulfur.
Its coming from over there.
Where are you going?
It could be another clue.
Are you crazy? Youre gonna
walk into the building
after were trying to get out of here?
Ill go with you.
Take your friend and go find
David Diaz and find an exit.
Ill go with Molly.
Go ahead.
Ty, come on!
Okay, Rachel, Im coming.
Hold up, Molly.
Oh, my God.
That stench.
Its sulfur, but its sharp and pungent.
Probably a broken sewer line.
Sewer gas smells like rotten eggs.
This is rotten eggs mixed
with burning matches.
Thats magma.
Magma? Theres no active
volcanoes near here.
Thats the smell.
Its a continental rift.
There are basins all over the East Coast.
The magma had nowhere to go
except for these basins way underground.
This surface rupture, its a result of
a deep crack within the Earths crust.
This is a geological event
that should take centuries,
but its happening in a matter of days.
Why is it blue?
Somethings happening under there.
And all of this geomagnetic energy,
its accelerating whatever that is.
So the whole Earth is breaking apart.
We have to find the others
and get out of here now!
Yolanda?
What is that?
I dont know.
Its not good.
Come on, take cover!
I thought you knew everything!
Clay would know.
Yeah, yeah, probably.
We have to find another way.
All the doors are blocked off.
Why am I not surprised that
David just ran away like that?
Molly...
No, he doesnt think about anybody.
Right, for right now, lets just focus
on finding Chrissy and Yolanda.
You dont think I am?
Come on, Im not like David.
What?
I didnt say anything.
Sure seems like it.
Are you that determined
on getting R.E.A.C.T. back
or proving that Davids
nothing without you?
Hes doing fine proving
that all on his own.
He failed and now the Earth
is destroying itself from the inside.
And were all going to deal
with the effects of that,
especially our kids.
No argument there.
But Molly, look at Clay.
He was too terrified
to even come with us.
And Chrissy, shes very capable.
But you treat her like
shes ten years old.
What are you trying to say?
That theyre struggling.
Yeah, this is hard on everybody.
You want to protect our kids?
Be a mom, not a commander.
You think I want this life for them?
You dont think Id rather
Chrissy with her big heart
join the Peace Corps
or do something amazing?
Or Clay with his big brain cure cancer.
They dont have a choice.
They were born into a war and they have
to fight to have those things later on.
Were all going to die if we
dont stop these geostorms.
Thats your rationale?
Risking them because
you cant save yourself?
Molly, they are not you.
Let them be themselves.
Why are we fighting about this
if not for a future for them?
If we make it through this,
we need to have a bigger talk.
Help!
Get it off!
No, no, no.
- Thats not going to move.
Yolanda!
Over here!
I found a way in!
Come on, hurry, I can hear them!
Molly!
What happened?
- Are you okay?
The roof caved in.
Fortunate for your fast exit, huh, David?
I was trying to get help.
Guys, are all the stairways blocked?
We just need a crowbar or something.
Are you okay?
Im fine, okay?
Just get me out of here.
Mom!
Dad! Are you guys there?
Dad!
- Chrissy!
Mom!
- Chrissy!
Yolanda.
Let me see this.
All right.
Im going to wedge it in here.
Im going to try to
lift about half an inch.
Thats about all I can do.
You have to pull him out.
On the count of three.
You got it?
Yep.
One, two, three!
Pull! Pull! Pull!
Pull! Pull!
Pull!
Pull him out!
Pull!
Were going to go over this.
This is it.
Our only way out.
You ready?
Start climbing!
Go! Lets go!
Whos next?
Careful. Careful.
Lets go.
- Careful.
Anybody else?
Anybody else down there?
Yell out if youre there!
I think thats it.
Lets go.
Oh, no.
Look whos here.
Are you okay?
Is the team intact?
Yes, yes, were fine.
Listen, you should
send more rescue crews in
to check for more survivors.
Yeah, okay, but David...
Look, I know, the data was incorrect,
but we can get back on track.
You need to go back to the president.
You need to tell him
that we cant give up now.
This is too important, okay?
Are you two getting
the band back together?
What?
Molly?
No.
Molly is unhinged, okay?
She is not qualified.
Shes not a team player.
She undermines literally everything.
The president wants this.
Do you want me to
convey your reservations,
or would you like to call him yourself?
Molly!
Oh, great.
Here we go again.
Its good to see you.
Are you okay?
Is the family okay?
I came to see if I could help in any way.
We didnt expect the whole facility
to be in ruins when we got here.
The geostorms are growing globally
at an uncontrollable rate.
Theres a deep fissure
inside the Wallops facility.
It measures miles
under the Earths crust.
Theres magma coming
from continental rifts there.
Youre positive?
Absolutely.
And it gave me an idea.
The lava veins, they were
emitting a strange color.
It wasnt orange.
It was a bright blue glow.
It smelled like sulfur.
I wasnt sure why at first,
but then I realized.
Ionized gases.
Exactly.
So heres my theory.
Weve always had solar flares.
Always.
But why are we having this
problem now with the geostorms?
Because were in a feedback loop.
How?
Why now, after billions of years?
The solar flares,
they ionize the atmosphere,
triggering disasters like earthquakes.
The earthquakes pump ions
back into the geostorms.
Repeat.
It just keeps feeding itself.
We have to break the cycle.
What is your solution?
Disrupt the ions.
But we dont have any tools or resources.
We need bulk metallic glass.
We launch it into the mesosphere
right before the next geostorm.
The glass will reflect the solar flares,
and stopping that feedback loop.
Well need an insane amount of it.
Where would we source this?
Fusion reactors.
Yeah. But where are
you getting it from?
Amazon?
JPL.
Does this mean we get Molly
back on the R.E.A.C.T. team?
No.
- No.
You two have to work this out.
Im here on behalf of the president,
and hes willing to do whatever it takes
to support R.E.A.C.T.,
Dr. Diaz, and the team.
And Molly, you could be part of this.
Sorry.
I need to think about this.
Whats going on?
They want us to work with David,
but we gotta speak to Travis first.
[knocking]
Its open.
Hey, kids.
Rough night at the office?
Remember the movie "Grease?"
At the end when the car
goes flying through the air?
Yeah, its classic.
Thats what happened to me.
Did you know Sandy
was dead the entire movie?
Yeah.
She drowned at the beginning.
Ascended to heaven in a 1948
Ford Super Deluxe Convertible.
Pretty cool, right?
You need to get out more.
Molly.
Come here.
So estimates have the next solar flare
peaking at about...
what time is it?
Three hours.
And then one 27 hours after that.
So theres less than 30
hours between those big hits.
But theres more.
The sun is 300,000
times bigger than Earth.
So it has a stronger pull of gravity.
Yeah, thats why we rotate around it.
When two objects are closer,
the gravitys stronger.
When its further away,
the weaker it gets.
Clay, are you saying that the Earth
is pulling away from the suns orbit?
No. The Earths gravity
comes from its own mass.
Not the suns.
But if the Earth is
pulling away from the sun,
that would mean the Earth is somehow...
losing its own mass.
Am I hearing that correctly?
CMEs are whats causing
all the electrical storms,
solar flares, earthquakes...
And its worse than before.
Theres been documented proof
of ball lightning all over the world.
Ball lightning?
- Told you Clay would know.
Wait, you guys saw one in person?
That explains the
ionized fissure at Wallops.
Ionized fissure?
Is that a thing now?
It might be the thing.
Ooh, a disruptor.
Exactly.
A bulk metallic glass package.
Its our best solution.
Why?
And where do we get metallic glass?
Weather satellites?
ISS stations?
Right.
Right.
So?
A disruptor because BMG powder
retains energy absorbing properties and
neutralizes solar flare ions.
I like this team.
Not bad, right?
And the BMGs protect the structures.
Its like Superman with kryptonite
or a vibranium shield against...
So what youre saying is if we get enough
bulk metallic glass, we can
effectively stop this geostorm.
It can absorb the ions.
Yes.
Well, how do we physically get it?
Getting its not the problem.
Its where to launch it
thats more difficult.
See, before the storm there were
15 operational launch pads in the US.
And now?
With Wallops down, three.
And you wont establish a
remote interlink connection
in time for that.
Does anybody know any
rich folk that arent in jail?
Funny.
I mean, I do.
I know a guy, but hes in California.
Californias been hit pretty hard.
Its an underground silo designed
to withstand a nuclear attack.
I only know this because I helped
build the molecular dynamics structures.
Why would a private
citizen need a space shuttle?
I didnt ask.
I just built it.
No. President Carlson instituted
martial law in California.
You have to be a resident
to get into the entire state.
Well figure it out.
Were still technically
residents there, but
just in case, I ran into
FEMA director Natasha Nakami.
We have full support
of President Carlson.
David Diaz does.
We dont.
No, were fine.
Natashas on our side.
And shes seen Davids messy handiwork
on more than one occasion.
David?
Why would we even...
If we can just,
if we can get to California,
we would have full
access to the facilities.
I still have some connections
with some military buddies.
Can you get a plane?
Why is David involved?
Im going.
- Youll need me, too.
Seriously!
Are we working with David Diaz again?
Mom, the man took
your company away from you
and you want to work with him again?
I dont get it.
Clay!
Go ahead.
Say it.
You always said, stand up
for what you believe in.
Is that a lie?
Or out of convenience?
Heres what I believe.
And its going to be
hard for you to hear.
I believe were going to die
if we dont do something.
And sometimes when your
backs against the wall,
you need everyone you can
working towards the same goal.
I know who David is.
I know we cant trust him
most of the time,
but hes a smart man.
And we need him.
Just as much as he needs us.
Where are you going?
Back.
Okay, you justified everything.
Youre so smart, but
you understand nothing.
You think your dad and I do this
because its the easiest way?
No.
Its because right now
this is the only way.
And if we have to deal with David
or some billionaire
named Griffin Richards,
thats just the price we pay.
Life isnt always so
morally clear and simple.
The only clarity your dad and I have
is your safety and survival.
Thats our guiding light.
You need to find yours.
Hey, Tony.
Thanks for flying us on short notice.
Happy to be of service.
So were good here?
Ive done this a thousand times.
Youre in good hands.
Now take your seat, please.
All right, everyone.
Now, the FAAs going to
start locking down US air space
in the next several hours.
With the inclement
weather thats coming in.
That means buckle up, Travis.
We have to get above the storm.
Its going to get a little bit bumpy.
Hang on, please.
Did he say hang on?
He did.
Hang on.
Were entering the geostorm.
We have a little bit of chop going on.
Hang on.
Were almost through the storm.
Ill get you through this.
Hang on.
I dont want to crash.
Were going to be okay.
Baby? Breathe.
Were going to get past this.
Okay?
Count to five.
And breathe.
Three.
Four.
Hang on.
Were almost through the storm.
[gasps]
Now that were through,
enjoy the rest of your flight.
You good?
- Yeah.
Are you?
A thousand times.
Damn.
Molly, you have a phone call.
Ill be right back.
Thanks.
This is Molly.
I ran the numbers.
The metallic glass package wont work.
What do you mean it wont work?
Your numbers are flawed.
The geostorms too big.
You dont have enough BMGs
to dissipate in the clouds.
I know.
We just need enough
to start a small hole.
Its a feedback loop.
Itll take care of itself after that.
Thats just a theory.
You have no real evidence
that any of this will work.
None. Zero.
You have to stop this back and forth.
Take all the credit if you want.
Im not going to fight with you.
I have the means to launch.
But its in California and
theyre under strict martial law.
You have the power of the president.
So either get us through the checkpoints
and help us save the world, or die
a petty little man in
your perfectly pressed suit
and manicured hands
without saving anyone.
Your choice.
Everything okay?
Yeah.
Only California residents
can pass this checkpoint.
Martial law has been
declared in California
by order of President Carlson!
So David Diaz is the devil
regardless if he helps us or not.
I could really use that
vacation right about now.
This reminds me of, uh...
Uganda, 2013?
- Yes, exactly.
Seems like simpler times.
No they werent.
- Simpler for us.
People change.
And thats okay.
And?
He got you through.
Will wonders never cease.
And he got you a private transport.
Still dont trust him.
Devil.
Definitely the devil.
Well...
Still, we need him.
Lets go.
My guy was surprised to
hear from me, but he said
hell have the rocket prepped
and ready for BMG delivery.
This is the control base.
They got the silo online
prepared for countdown start.
Were cutting it close.
Its 7:29 p.m.
The X-93 reaches peak within the hour.
The payload team is just waiting
for the bulk metallic glass
to arrive and we can initiate countdown.
[alarm sounds]
I didnt touch anything!
- What did you do?
Its a failsafe.
I have some redundancies
built in. I got it.
Three, two, one.
So its sensing a zap coming through so
the backups are
happening after the reboot.
We wouldve been aware of this had
we been sitting here 45 minutes ago.
Guys, this is not good for the launch.
My NASA software wont be of any use now.
So we have no idea
when the solar flare actually
hits peak and cant
track the CME eruption?
Were working blind.
We need to work the phones.
We need to get the glass.
We need to get direct access to NASA.
We need to go all the way
to the President.
Natasha, I know its asking a lot,
but the President has to clear
airspace for the transport.
It is urgent.
Okay, okay.
Tell Director Landsberg this
is a direct order
from President Carlson.
Yes, NASA will fully be compensated.
Oh, come on.
No, you dont have to put me
through to another department.
NOAA can just send over the data so I can
crunch the mass estimate
numbers on my end.
David, where are we?
Clearing airspace now.
30 minutes?
Thats a tight window.
No, I appreciate it.
Thank you.
Bulk metallic glass being loaded in 15.
About two hours until touchdown.
Lets get ready.
The glass package is 15 minutes out.
What was that?
We lost bay door control of the silo.
I can try and override.
The signals dead.
The lightning strike must
have taken out the antenna.
The Falcon wont launch
until we get that back.
Where is it?
Wheres the antenna?
North exit, top of the gantry.
It takes two.
One to hold the cover open,
the other to reconnect it.
Got it.
- Dad, Ill go with you.
Okay, lets go.
Well be right back.
- Yeah.
Come on.
Does it ever get any easier?
Nope.
We need to get back inside
before the next round of lightning.
Right behind you.
- Yeah, I know.
Okay.
Grab the connector and reconnect it.
All right, hold on, hold on.
- Ill hold the cover.
Alrighty.
You gotta shear it lower.
- I know what Im doing.
You need to do it simultaneously.
All right.
Dont switch anything yet.
Hold on.
Im not.
All right, hold on.
- You almost got it.
All right, I got it.
No, I got it.
Ready?
- Yep.
One...
Two, three.
- Two, three.
[powering up]
Its working!
- Go!
Lets go.
- Go, go, go!
Both antennas online.
Theres a heavy storm front
moving very fast in our direction.
Im going to circle around, stand by.
We have to launch.
Theres no way through.
Im going to have to land.
Im losing control.
I cant fight the storm.
Hello?
Hello?
That was our only shot.
Theres no more BMG.
That was everything out there.
Thats it.
Out there.
I know this, Clay.
What do you got?
Its the satellites.
The weather ones, the GPS, the military.
Some of them have BMG
powder on them, right?
You know, for backup fixes, redundancies.
Yeah, and most of them have
at least 10 to 50 liters each.
Can you get any of them on remote?
You should probably limit
to magnetic confinement pads.
Thats the most reliable.
- Good idea.
We should be dealing with weather and...
Military.
- Right.
Yeah.
- How many?
Uh, 500, maybe even 1,000.
Thats great.
Yeah, but 10 will do if we
just strategically place them.
Ill call David.
Yolanda, get Natasha.
Yep.
Ill call NASA.
A few others.
If we can coordinate a signal for launch.
Uh, multiple tanks to
release BMGs all over
the entire globe at the exact same time.
Yes, brilliant.
Brilliant, brilliant.
Natasha, this is
Dr. Yolanda Lee.
Ive got a lock on GO-16.
Its pinging back
from geostationary orbit
at 35,800 kilometers.
Pull up the command interface.
NOAA uses CC-SDS protocols.
Should be able to spoof
an admin handshake
if we route through their
ground station in Wallops.
X-37Bs comms link is
encrypted end-to-end.
NSA grade AES-256.
Start by spoofing their uplink frequency.
Theyre using S-band, same as GPS.
Frequency match.
Sending handshake request.
Injecting fake credentials.
Handshake initiated.
Wait.
Theyre running MIL-STD-1553
bus architecture.
That means that manual
overrides are possible,
but theyre buried deep
in the subsystems.
Hey, this is Travis Hayes.
Focus on the payload bay.
Pods magnetic confinement should show up
under experimental systems.
All right, query the manifest.
Running decryption algorithm.
God, this is slow.
Come on. You can do it.
Hurry up. The solar flare
ETA is less than one minute,
and the apocalypse wont wait.
Let me...
- Got it. Thanks, Dr. Hayes.
We need to release the BMG.
Everybody ready in ten, nine, eight,
seven, six, five,
four, three, two, one.
Yes!
Yes.
Okay, it worked.
We did it.
Again.
I like you guys.
We make a good team.
Got a place I can park my RV?
[phone vibrates]
Oh, hey. You know, Natasha
keeps calling from FEMA.
Yeah, she wants me to
meet with the president.
Yeah, you should go.
I dont know.
Clay got me thinking.
About what?
The friends I keep.
People I want to associate with.
Yeah, but its our job.
Well, weve done our job.
Youre right. We have.
Hey, Mom. Yolanda and I
were wondering if...
Dad, where are you going?
Well, your mom and I have
been just discussing...
Are you serious?
You can figure out how to save the world,
but you cant figure out how
to save your marriage?
Honey.
Unbelievable.
Ill talk to her.
- Wait a second.
Youre an amazing mother.
I was too hard on you earlier.
Youre an incredible father.
[alarm sounds]
Oh, no.
[clatter]
What?
What the...
What the...
[shouts]
Oh, did you...
Oh!
Hi, its Molly Martin.
I cant get to the phone.
Leave me a message
and Ill get back to you.
Molly, you were right about the geostorm.
Its amazing, but we need to track
what other phenomena are happening.
God, it was just floating in the air.
I was just staring at it
like some Neanderthal
that had just seen
television for the first time.
Im headed home.
Tonight is the night, I can feel it.
Call me back.
Im gonna start tracking and
see how large the readings get.
[beeping]
Its looking good.
Shit, its moving really fast.
What?
MOLLY:
Hello?
Molly, its Nijat.
The CME hit early.
If it keeps going, well
have global disasters.
Its moving faster
than your research model.
Ive got readings off the charts.
Ive got...
[phone disconnect tone]
Its beautiful.
[screams]
The kids are meeting us
at Nijats to get readings
and figure out where
and whats gonna hit next.
Molly?
You okay?
Molly?
I know he was your friend.
I get it.
Ive clocked over a hundred
tremors over the past six hours.
Okay.
And Nijat, he said, geostorm.
He wouldnt have concluded that
if the numbers didnt add up.
Right.
The earthquakes that were experiencing.
The temperature drops.
The ocean currents,
theyre all over the map.
We need to warn the administration.
But without R.E.A.C.T.,
they wont listen to us.
We need hard evidence, and
I know well find it at Nijats.
Molly?
Im fine.
Okay.
I want my computers,
and I want my company back.
What would all those computers
tell you that you dont already know?
How am I gonna know that now, huh?
Come on.
This isnt you, Molly.
David Diaz took R.E.A.C.T. from
me.
Yes.
He took all of my equipment,
my research, my whole life.
You know, I was really building
towards something, and now...
You dont need all that gear.
You got us.
You got us.
God.
This whole house is completely destroyed.
This is not a good sign.
I set up the array.
Connectors on backwards.
Thats why your signal
to noise is tanking.
Im not a scientist.
She knows that.
I shouldnt even be here.
Thats fine.
Why isnt Clay doing this?
Your brothers over
there doing science stuff.
Hey, dont let her get
under your skin, okay?
Youre just as qualified to be here.
Yeah?
My liberal arts degree is really
helping next to your multiple PhDs.
I could help you weave a basket.
I have two PhDs and Im still replaceable
by AI with three prompts.
Your basket weaving
has another two minutes.
Okay, Einstein.
Just help me turn this connector around.
Okay. This goes here...
Mom.
Look at the grass.
The dendritic pattern
from the strike point,
it looks like it radiated
from the ground, not from above.
Well, lightning doesnt
come from the ground.
Didnt they teach you at...
What college did you go to again?
Funny.
You know, Id love to go to school,
but Im too busy helping
my family stop disasters.
For some reason,
they just keep happening.
Molly?
Solar wind speeds picked
up 600 kilometers per second.
Proton densities through the roof.
Magnetometers are pinging like crazy.
We shouldnt be seeing this.
Auroras are northern lights.
This is too far south.
The CMEs massive magnetic fields
are reacting with our own.
Thats why we can see the auroras.
Okay, so then what is it?
Geostorm.
A geomagnetic storm.
The heat it would take to make
an imprint like this is enormous.
Could lightning do that?
Not normal lightning.
Mom.
These are Nijats notes.
Travis?
Travis Hayes?
Wait, the Travis Hayes?
Do you know him?
That sounds like a story.
Please.
We went to Berkeley together.
We did a few Peace Corps
runs together. Its nothing.
Was that before or after he won his first
or second Nobel Prize in mathematics?
Clay, I found this in the rubble.
Make sure the memory card is intact.
If its not, then the last
90 days of work are useless.
Lets get back and figure out
why this geostorm
is growing so large.
And what about the card?
The data box only
suffered superficial damage.
So if we take it back
to the lab, I can open it.
Is there anyone left in the house?
Nijat lived alone.
I found his ring.
He never took it off,
even after Sadia passed.
Mom, Im so sorry about your friend.
Im sorry, Mom.
- Im sorry, Molly.
Hey, you want some company?
Everything just vanished.
No warning.
Just gone.
The neighborhood...
The house.
People.
Nijat.
Its a lot.
Not his journals.
And I just...
I feel like theres an
answer in here somewhere.
So you can use these?
Im trying to, but it just feels like a
math problem that I cant figure out.
Well, why do you have to figure it out?
I mean, who else is going to?
David Diaz?
Davids a tool.
Hes short-sighted.
You know, maybe hes surrounded himself
with a lot of smart people this time.
You dont have to save the
world again and again and again.
And you dont have to do it alone.
Im sorry. I cant stop.
I cant stop.
I feel like everything
thats happened so far
is just building to something really big.
And I dont know how
were going to survive this.
Your family. Us.
We have our strengths.
We want to support you.
Were here for you.
Use us.
I know. I just want
everybody to be safe.
I do, too.
I do, too.
Sunspots.
What?
Sunspots.
Come on.
[door opens]
How you doing?
Huh? Oh... Um...
I got the memory card out and intact.
And Im trying to
see whats on it, but...
Trouble?
It isnt password protected.
Thats interesting.
But theres three security questions.
And if I answer any of them
wrong, everythings deleted.
Well, try me.
Maybe I can help.
Okay.
What do you do when your round of golf
is interrupted by lightning?
Undoubtedly, Travis golf humor.
No one plays, but he did,
so no one got the joke.
Use a one iron.
Even God cant hit a one iron.
Dumb, I know.
One dash iron.
One iron worked.
- Nice.
Okay, next question.
Who is the Wilbur Hall cat?
It was a stray cat we all used to feed.
He would roam the commons.
I keep thinking his name is Chowderface.
Carrotcake.
Yeah, long story.
It worked!
Okay, two down.
Okay, last question.
Think youre faster than me?
Whats the measure...
Eject that card now.
Clay, right now.
No, no, the card is self-deleting data.
[phone rings]
Travis, its Judy. Again.
I know you have a mssive Nobel trophy.
But you also owe me four months rent.
[beeping]
Unknown device.
Youre not getting Nijats
info that easily.
Whoa, what?
What the...
Whoa.
Holy, that was the longest one yet.
The readings are accurate.
2.53 seconds.
That is a measurable loss of gravity.
In your face, Isaac Newton.
[sirens blaring]
You know, I was very instrumental
in all that funding.
I told President Carlson
that day that when he...
What?
We got it.
Another gravitational anomaly.
A big one.
2.53 seconds?
Thats insane.
Dr. James, send
Director Nakami the data.
I mean, this is incredible.
These are off-the-chart gravity pulls.
Finally, we can quantify their existence
and get the Paladin
project off the ground.
We can prevent these geostorms for good.
We have the proof.
Emergency dispatch in Roanoke.
Lit up with 911 calls of people
and things lifting off the ground.
And this was after a magnitude
6.2 in Tramway, North Carolina
took everyone by surprise.
Its just 163 miles
between the two locations.
Both events only three months after
the weightlessness
incident in Wilmington.
Natasha, there is a pattern
emerging here.
We need to move forward
with the Paladin project.
Okay.
This is good, but...
- No buts!
Sorry.
The proposal that I laid out
for the Paladin project
has everything in there
to stop this geostorm.
We launch a set of magnetic
sails at the size and
the gauge specs that I proposed,
then we can stop this storm.
Its not enough, David.
I need more ground data that points
to concrete evidence for an
actual solution, not theory.
The Paladin project is not theory.
My sails will reflect
and reduce the effects
of solar flares hitting the Earth.
Without it, I dont know
where we'll be in a year.
FEMA is overseeing disaster response
for multiple catastrophes.
Lightning storm,
earthquakes, you name it.
The presidents even launching a program
to get citizens to help us.
Thats how strapped we are.
This is...
preventative...
speculative at best.
I agree.
But per the president,
I am under your jurisdiction.
Without Paladin project
to stop this geostorm,
the entire East Coast is
going to be destroyed
and millions of people are going to die!
So please, help me.
Help FEMAs R.E.A.C.T. program.
Help everyone.
You want to launch Paladin?
You get me the support
I need in explaining
why this should be approved and funded.
She cant do that.
She loves playing gatekeeper.
Ill talk directly with the president.
Ill tell him that
he needs to make R.E.A.C.T.
an independent body from FEMA.
You can do that?
- Of course I can.
Yeah.
My fellow Americans, we have weathered
ice and inferno, earthquake and despair.
I stood shoulder
deep in the frozen darkness
of that killer ice storm.
And I rose from the dead a better man.
Not the president chosen by
the people, but by divine power.
And I take on this role
with humble gratitude.
Even though I am ready to
lay down my life for America,
I know our country needs more
than just one man in this fight.
It feels like only yesterday this country
weathered catastrophic
disasters on the same level.
Yet we made it through.
This time will be just as tough.
But we will do it together.
I am honored to introduce
the Rebuild America program.
Rebuild infrastructure.
Restore power.
Defend our future.
Resistance is not dissent.
Its surrender.
We will not thumb our nose at the brave
men and women who
sacrificed their very lives
to keep our country safe
so that we may have a future.
Now, more than ever, we owe
it to them to rebuild America
even better and keep the dream
of a more perfect union alive.
This is not sacrifice.
Its opportunity.
Those who answer the call
will receive training,
resources, and the gratitude of a nation.
Those who hesitate will
have plenty of time to reflect
on what it means to truly be an American.
God bless you.
And God bless the
United States of America.
Mr. President, Dr. David Diaz
is on the phone for you.
Who?
Dr. Diaz from R.E.A.C.T.,
the team that responds
to natural disasters.
I know who he is.
So, youve seen the commercial.
What do you think?
I like it.
Hopefully, it will get
everyone to enlist.
Not too authoritarian?
America is going through
too many disasters.
It needs a strong hand.
A strong hand.
That could be a campaign slogan.
Okay, lets go.
Lets release the commercial immediately.
And, uh, the Diaz guy,
can you get somebody else
to take the call, please?
- Yes, sir.
A strong hand.
I like it.
Do you know anything about sunspots?
Would it affect the tides?
Thats the moon.
- Right. Then, no.
I know nothing.
Well, uh, Travis and Nijat were...
They were tracking one.
A cluster.
It was pretty big.
Its been visible for a couple months.
The... The aurora
that lit up the sky?
Perhaps its all connected.
I dont know why theyre so severe,
but these sunspots could be
the source of the geostorm.
Then maybe that has
something to do with the...
the low gravity that we all witnessed.
Well, that would sort of wrap it up
in a pretty little package, wouldnt it?
Yeah.
Wishful thinking, huh?
Yeah.
Now, I know things havent been ideal
between us lately, and you hate corny,
but I have something for you.
Well, you are just full of surprises.
Oh, no.
Its our anniversary.
Im so sorry, Eric.
No, no.
Its okay.
Weve had a lot of challenges
these last three months,
but if theres one thing Ive learned
that I cant take for granted,
its our marriage and our family.
Or gravity.
Especially gravity, yeah.
These are so beautiful.
You know, its a species that
blooms in very harsh conditions.
Thats why they grow in pairs.
Were facing incredible challenges.
But if we cant fight for ourselves or
our family, whats the point of fighting?
And there is nothing we cant overcome.
Just like those flowers.
You should have been a writer.
I could listen to you talk all day.
Oh, come on.
Just a few minutes ago,
you wanted to kill me.
Oh, dont ruin the moment.
Okay.
Oh, sorry to interrupt.
Where are you going?
Chrissy wants to go back
and see where she can help.
Theres a lot of
evacuations going on there.
Are you sure its safe?
Yes. Well stay
in the evacuation zones
and we have our meters.
She is prepared.
Id feel helpless waiting around.
I need to do something.
I have too much of Mom in me.
Happy anniversary.
So yeah, I guess I should
go call Travis Hayes.
Oh, well, okay.
I need to get back to work.
Good.
- Good.
Happy anniversary.
Hey, give me a hand over here.
Today is the first day we all
rise to meet this challenge.
The Rebuild America program begins now.
Every citizen is a soldier in this fight.
Sign up for the Rebuild America program.
America needs a strong hand.
I just, I dont even
want to hear him speak.
Do you know that if you dont join that
volunteer program,
you can get sent to jail?
Yeah, I know.
But I guess people really need
work and food and shelter, so...
I mean, at least this gives them that.
Yeah, fine.
Okay, then make it volunteer.
Not difficult.
Im not disagreeing.
Sounds like you are.
You know what?
How about when this is all over,
you and me just go...
somewhere safe, by yourselves, and...
just have a nice time.
Just us.
Yeah?
Yeah, thatd be great.
Are you okay?
Yeah, um... Im just worried.
About what?
Come on, you can talk to me.
Maybe I can help.
You dont always have to keep
everything bottled up inside.
I think my brothers hiding.
Felix?
Yeah, hes...
Hes been drafted into that
Rebuild America program,
and hes not really a fan of
President Carlson or the program.
I just...
I dont think you should get
thrown in jail because of it.
Why didnt you tell me?
Yolanda, maybe we could help.
How? Your parents are
literally being ostracized
by the people that theyre saving.
I mean, they have no connections.
Then, I dont know, maybe
he can come work for us?
No, no, Ive asked him.
He doesnt want the help.
Im sure we can figure this out.
No, not everything needs to be
figured out, Chrissy.
I mean, if we try hard enough...
No, stop! Okay?
Please, just...
Look, my brother and I
dont always see eye to eye.
Okay?
Even on our best days.
And I just...
Lets just go where
were needed. Okay?
Okay.
[pounding]
MAN:
Knock again.
Yeah?
Hello.
Molly!
And friends.
What took you so long to come see me?
Wait till you hear what happened.
Come in, come in, come in.
- You were expecting us?
Yeah, you opened up the questions.
I floated for 2.53 seconds.
What?
- Yeah, come in, come in.
Sit down, sit down.
Travis, thats incredible.
Its impossible.
Im like a superhero, except I float.
Im a floating superhero.
Did you bring my memory card?
This is my son, Clay.
Clay.
- Big fan.
Oh, Clay, thank you.
Well, I see Mollys been
the one talking about me.
Not this guy.
So you still havent shaken
the old kiwi off the tree?
Im not from that island, boy.
Im Australian.
I left there when I was 24 years old.
Ah, just because you lost the
accent doesnt change things.
Alright, you guys ready to jump in?
I still havent cracked why the CMEs
are so intense and consistent.
Data shows atmospheric
electricity keeps increasing.
Yeah, the energy has to go somewhere
when it hits the planet.
Thats why the lightning
storm got so intense.
And took Nijat from us.
The energy from that solar
material seems to be building.
Building?
Building where?
Above us, below us.
The entire east coast?
Yes.
So youre saying whatever happens
on the ground can
affect the air, the sky?
Kind of, but the other way around.
The solar flares are aggravating
the gravitational pulls.
Theyre affecting the earthquakes.
And thats when the
gravitational failure hit.
It lasts about 2.53 seconds.
And then theres a quick drop
in barometric pressure,
about 10 to 15 millibars.
So if this energy is building
up, what does that mean?
Hundreds of fault lines on
the east coast can be triggered.
The next CMEs that come through here will
have enough strength
as a whole roll of them.
Yeah, based on all this data,
in less than 48 hours,
a massive X-class solar flare will erupt.
The east coast wont survive that.
Travis, you said there was a
10 to 15 millibar decrease
in barometric pressure before.
Im seeing a 25 millibar
drop in your readings now.
Yeah, I see two in Wirtz, Virginia.
Wirtz, wheres that?
Uh, about 20 miles south.
Take the 240 through Franklin County.
How are we going to stop this?
Those earthquakes are
going to be everywhere.
We need to go to
R.E.A.C.T. and warn them.
They wont listen.
We can be of more help in the field.
Lets head out, see what we can do.
Travis, you coming?
I think Im gonna...
if thats...
if thats rude, Im sorry, but I
dont do good out in the field.
I can be more of a help monitoring here.
I have a system.
Its just, it works better.
Im gonna stay too.
I just, um...
I just... I dont want
to go outside right now.
And I think if I stay, I can help and...
Like I said, dude, I have a system.
It works better.
- Travis...
Fine, fine, fine.
He can stay.
Theres a lot to keep track of
so I guess he can help this once.
Just this once.
And dont touch my stuff.
Okay.
All right, lets go.
Bye.
Go get him, kid.
Alright, well...
Welcome aboard, Clay.
Have a seat, my friend.
Travis...
Am I reading this right?
Yeah, those coordinates are Philadelphia.
Its an 8.1 magnitude.
Nearly 6 seconds with peak
ground acceleration of 1.7 G.
Those are Northridge 94 numbers.
Why are we finding out
about this after the fact?
The Ramapo Fault is
closest to the epicenter
but its still 80 miles
south of the city.
Fine.
This is great.
This is perfect.
It is?
Yes, were going to Philadelphia.
We are?
There are multiple
weather anomalies in Philly.
We need to see them firsthand.
Pull over.
Theres no way this was
caused by an earthquake.
Think a hurricane did this?
No, the trees are intact.
It cant be the wind.
So youre saying
the gravitational pull thing,
thats what did this?
Whoa, Molly, hold it.
Hey, wait, wait, wait a minute.
The gravitational pull is gone.
The trains upright.
Its not floating.
Molly, it can still fall over.
Damn it!
What was that?
I dont know.
Look.
- What is it?
Look at that.
What is it?
The elevated geomagnetic
activity is all over this place.
[electric shock]
- Ooh!
This isnt good.
No.
No, it certainly isnt.
If this is happening out here,
then major cities near fault lines
all across the mid-Atlantic
are in danger.
And it could be catastrophic.
[dog barks]
All right.
Mom?
- Go for mom.
A lot of infrasound sensors are
detecting 15 hertz waves at 170 decibels.
Clay, how are you reading that?
Those numbers are from NASA.
Yeah, I kind of hacked those.
Does that make me a bad person?
What does that mean?
It means the universe
is giving us a tell.
Its like a bad poker player
at a blackjack table.
Its telling us something
before something lousy happens.
By measuring tectonic plate vibrations,
it can predict earthquakes and...
Oh, no.
Now Im seeing seismic activity.
Philadelphia is lighting up.
Come on, we gotta go.
Where?
- Philadelphia.
Yolanda.
Okay.
Youll be okay.
What happened?
What...
Oh, no.
Where?
Philadelphia.
There was a major earthquake.
I think the Red Cross
has it handled here.
Come on.
We have to go.
[sirens blaring]
[honking]
Man, this is nuts.
MAN:
Help!
Where are you going?
Someone needs help!
And theyll get it, but not from us.
That is not our job.
This is.
But, David...
- We need to focus.
Well set up camp over there.
The quicker we can get these
readings, the quicker
we can get back to Wallops Labs
and save billions of people.
Thats the better plan rather
than blowing it on one person.
Now move!
What was that?
I dont know.
Lets just show the government
Paladin is the only option.
This is crazy.
The devastation of this
city is... Its horrible.
People are gonna need help.
We need to do something.
What was that?
Was that lightning?
Ive never seen anything like that.
I think it was an electromagnetic surge.
I dont think its safe to drive.
Come on, lets get our stuff
and check out the rest
of the city on foot.
Mr. President, the earthquake
in Philadelphia.
While extraordinary, its only the start
of what could be
a series of similar incidents
across the eastern part of the country.
Why is that?
What happened?
It starts with the sun.
It continues to launch
excessive amounts of
material causing large
amounts of geostorms.
Geostorms?
Solar-driven storms that
fry the Earths ionosphere,
causing everything from
earthquakes to gravity loss.
Gravity loss?
Localized gravitational
collapse because of
the curvature of the
planet and the ionosphere.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Where are these storms?
At NASA, we have
confirmed theyre isolated
to the east coast,
but theyre getting bigger.
Weve got under 24 hours
before it completely
takes over the entire eastern seaboard.
Why am I hearing about this now?
Mr. President, weve never
seen anything like this before.
No one has.
Were just now connecting the dots.
The informations
coming in fast and furious,
and were collecting accurate data
to bring to you so you can
act swiftly and accurately.
Solutions.
Longshot.
Dr. David Diaz from R.E.A.C.T.
He has what he calls the Paladin Project.
Its a series of giant umbrellas that,
when deployed, blocks the sun spots
and stops the geostorms.
Umbrellas?
Titanium umbrellas, sir.
Thats the best we got?
Scientifically, thats the best we got.
Okay, how long?
Umbrellas are ready to launch.
You say go, we can be up in
space in less than two hours.
Well, lets go and get
this done then, kids.
Yes, Mr. President.
P waves arriving early.
That shouldnt happen.
Vertical acceleration?
Spiking, straight up.
Gravimeter?
Fluctuating, but it could be noise.
Or it could be the first clean
data that weve ever had.
Log it in and wrap it up.
We need a hit while of now.
Is that Molly Martins kid?
Oh, FEMAs here.
You guys come with me.
Ill take care of this.
Great.
Oh, no, lets go a different way.
Just be cool, okay?
Okay, fine.
This is a surprise.
Why?
We actually do work.
The surprise is that youre here.
Okay, look, this isnt productive.
Its a big city.
Well just go somewhere else.
Dr. Diaz, the body we found
is conducting electricity.
You need to stay away from
anything conducting electricity.
Shes right. Its usually
a source of electricity.
Its not on a source of anything.
Its its own source.
Its creating its own electricity.
The excess from
electrons from the sunspots.
The current is still underground.
But the body is conducting
it through the rubble.
Wait, what?
Energy is being created
from the atmosphere
and through fissures from the quake.
How do you know about this?
This is my research, not yours.
Excuse me?
Your research?
I dont think youve done a day
of research in your life.
Thats enough.
Can you please just give us a minute?
Im gonna go to the car and find people
who actually need my help.
Chrissy!
The Paladin Project,
Before Molly lost R.E.A.C.T.?
Its gonna happen.
And I want you there.
We are ready to launch.
Just waiting to hear from the President.
What?
Youre wasting your
time with this family.
Join me and the R.E.A.C.T. team.
Okay?
We have the tech, the funding.
Were ready to go.
We can stop these geostorms
with the Paladin Project.
Isnt that what you want?
I know you love Chrissy.
But if she loves you,
she knows youll be happier
doing the right thing.
Think about it.
But not too long.
Were collecting data here and then
we have to leave the launch site.
Two hours.
The answer is still no, David.
And Molly didnt
lose R.E.A.C.T.
Who took it from her?
Lets go.
Mr. President,
Im requesting
we make Project Paladin go live.
Paladin is a go.
Head to Wallops and get started.
[rumbling]
We need to hit Wallops now.
Rachel? David?
[shrieking]
[honking]
[screaming]
Chrissy?
[phone rings]
Yolanda, where are you?
Downtown Philadelphia.
The gravitational pulls
and then these cars,
they all just started lifting and then...
Are you talking about the earthquakes?
I just... We were...
- Wheres Chrissy?
Ill track her location.
[static]
We were talking to David Diaz and then
she walked away and...
- We cant hear you.
We found Chrissys phone location.
You just stay there.
Were gonna pick you up.
The President gave us clearance
to go forward with Paladin.
And Im only gonna ask
each of you for one thing.
Your best.
We just won the coin toss.
Okay?
All right.
Okay?
- Okay.
All right.
Capcom, report.
Secure satellite
communication relay established.
We can tap Nevada in as well.
And we have backups
prepared just in case.
DPS, are we online yet?
We are online.
Rachel, keep an eye on storm shifts.
Anything that will
interfere with this launch.
Im on it, Dr. Diaz.
Rachel, initiate countdown.
These numbers...
- Suck.
The Paladin project...
- Isnt gonna work.
Probability-wise, it doesnt look good.
But thats our only hope.
It has to work, otherwise
everyone on the East Coast...
It...
- The numbers dont lie.
Well, then whats plan B?
Popcorn.
Excuse me?
- Popcorn. Im gonna make some.
You want some?
No, no.
We need to fix this.
Do you want butter on it?
Because, I mean, thats
all popcorn really is, right?
Its a vessel of all that
butter and deliciousness.
Really good popcorn.
Can you focus?
Please?
Look, were eight billion
ants holding onto a rock,
spinning a thousand miles an hour,
slingshotting around the sun,
and right now that rock is getting fried
by a solar tantrum big enough
to make extinction look efficient.
Okay, so sometimes,
sometimes popcorn is the solution.
This popcorns nice and tasty.
You wont regret it.
I really hope Mom and Dad
come up with something soon.
Molly! Hey!
Oh my God! Im so sorry!
I dont know where she went!
She was with me one second
and then she was gone the next.
I dont know!
Were gonna find her.
Wait...
Oh my God.
Oh my God, thats her car!
Okay, lets go.
- We gotta go.
Shes up there!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy!
Chrissy!
Chrissy!
Come on, move it, move it!
Chrissy!
Hold on, guys. Hold on.
My phone says shes here.
- Yeah, mine too.
Found the car, guys.
12th floor. Lets go.
The CME data has changed.
The wind intensity
has increased by 0.3.
DPS, onboard status.
Status!
- Go for launch.
10 minutes.
10 minutes.
- 10 minutes to launch.
Auto sequence start.
Launch command is
now yours, Dr. Diaz.
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait!
Stop! Stand back! Stand back!
One wrong move, the car goes over, guys.
We need to balance the car.
Or tie it off on something.
Tie it?
Tie it with what?
Find something!
Cables or extension cords,
whatever you have.
Chrissy!
Can you hear me?
Chrissy, wake up!
Wake up, Chrissy!
Hurry up!
Chrissy!
I found something. Lets go.
- Lets tie it around here.
Lets go wrap it around there.
Give me some slack.
Give me some slack.
Hold it. Hold it.
Hold it.
Hold on, guys.
Chrissy, were going
to get you out of there.
Give me some slack.
Hold on to it.
Hold on to it!
Chrissy!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy, wake up!
Chrissy!
- Chrissy!
Youve got to wake up.
Lets go. Lets go.
He got her.
He got her.
Here comes the car!
We got her.
Youre okay.
Youre okay. Youre okay.
Im sorry.
Im so sorry.
Lets go. Lets go, guys.
Come on.
The buildings going.
The buildings going.
Lets go.
Lets go.
All personnel, stand by for launch.
T minus ten seconds.
All systems functional.
Ignition go.
- Initiate main ignition start.
T minus five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
We have ignition.
Yes!
Woo!
[applause]
Its taking off.
It might actually work.
This is good popcorn.
Damn straight.
Is there any more back there?
Popcorn? Bra!
Add a little butter.
On it.
Paladin has passed the moon belt.
Transmit signal is strengthening.
Prepare for cell extension.
Keep heading alignment.
Okay, Paladin Two and Three.
Connect stations.
Prepare for supplemental wing lock.
Initiate magnetic dock parameters.
Paladin Three extender twelve.
35% extend.
Enable sail rigidity.
Sail rigidity established.
Sails are launched.
We did it!
Woo!
Great job, great job.
Thank you.
Its time to get the
president on the phone.
[phone rings]
This is Amy.
Initial estimates are showing
the sails are in place on schedule.
Dr. Diaz is on the phone.
Dr. Diaz, this is the president.
Mr. President, hello?
Blackout.
Uh, someone talk to me.
What just happened?
Data systems are offline.
Well call the backup.
Dr. Diaz...
Dr. Diaz?
Dr. Diaz?
Something must have happened.
The umbrellas are offline.
What do you mean the
umbrellas are offline?
Thats impossible.
Dr. Diaz, the solar
flares are too strong.
Umbrellas 6 through 14 have been
completely destroyed, sir.
Youre reading it wrong.
The geostorm is not stopping.
Its growing in magnitude.
What the hell is going on here?
Reserve gennies are firing up.
Dr. Diaz, do you smell that?
[lightning strikes]
Status report.
Initial reports suggest
that the deflections from
the umbrellas widen
the scope of the geostorm.
Widened?
- Globally.
Its moving more aggressively.
Its already hit Nevada and, uh...
Clay, youre not going to believe what
happened in Winnipeg, Jamaica, and...
Looks like Vegas.
This geostorm...
Its not going to just
stop the eastern seaboard.
Its...
- This is global. Yeah, yeah.
Thats ball lightning.
Right.
Ball lightning.
No, its only ever been
scientifically caught
on camera once.
If everyones seeing this, then...
Clay, Clay, its okay.
- No, no, no.
You dont understand.
I need to get a hold of my mom and dad.
I need to tell them.
Clay, Im sure they already know.
Natasha, the president will be
addressing the nation shortly.
You have five minutes.
You wanted to see me?
Im headed to the Wallops
Flight Facility in five.
Dr. Diaz missed
his mark, but so did
the rest of the scientists of the world.
Of course, Mr. President.
What is the current status
of the geostorms?
The geostorm targets
are seemingly random.
Were trying to figure out
how to stop them,
but its hit or miss.
From the info that we have,
were concerned
that this could go on for years.
But our core survival
resources, food, shelter,
water, will be gone in less than a month.
Quicker if the storm accelerates.
Its already accelerated.
Just depends on how we spin it.
Mr. President,
what are you planning
on saying to the nation?
I havent decided yet.
Ill come up with something.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Natasha.
You didnt tell the president about
Dr. Diaz and the
R.E.A.C.T. team at Wallops.
Its been over 45 minutes
with no communication.
I think we can assume no one survived.
Im headed to Wallops now.
Until I can confirm it and you hear
from me directly,
you know nothing. Understood?
Understood.
- Okay.
I knew R.E.A.C.T.s
magnetic sails would fail.
Instead of stopping the CMEs, it worked
as a bounce board for the flares.
So frustrating.
Davids smarter than that.
Yeah, obviously hes
not smarter than his ego.
When we get there, youll
set him straight, wont you?
The geostorm is moving
at an accelerated rate.
Its global now.
What if we cant convince him?
Well, then Ill have to kick
the living ego out of him.
Works for me.
My fellow Americans,
tonight I speak to you
with a heavy heart and
an unshakable resolve.
We are a nation born of resilience.
These past weeks have tested us
with earthquakes that split our soil,
solar flares that scorched our skies,
and storms that froze our cities.
These are not isolated acts of nature.
They are what scientists
are calling geostorms.
I will not lie to you.
Cloud covers thick.
Geomagnetic currents
are penetrating deeper.
Radiation is off the charts.
DSCOVRs telemetry is lacking
like a snail through peanut butter.
Were going to have to extrapolate
the CME from the rest of it.
Sunspot region AR4667.
It doubled again.
Its about to fire.
The last CME took about
14 hours to reach Earth.
If these projections hold,
were going to get hit
by another geostorm explosion
nearly twice the size
in less than 35 hours.
Thats enough to destroy the planet.
PRESIDENT: This is not
surrender. Its survival.
Its unreal.
Everythings destroyed.
What happened to the building?
Looks like it collapsed on itself.
I dont want you going in there.
Youll be more helpful
keeping watch down here,
especially if we need
someone to rescue us.
Please.
For me.
Well, um, well stay here.
Keep an eye out for David Diaz.
Okay.
If you sense anything
going south, just get out.
Unless its another
gravity pull and you need
to tie yourself to something locked down.
Promise?
If you find David, get him
in touch with Travis.
Travis knows what to do.
Okay.
Come on.
Its not working!
Networks fried.
Here, try it.
Use the radio.
Can you switch that off?
I cant deal with listening
to the president right now.
Mom? Dad?
Chrissy? Yolanda?
Is anyone there? Over.
PRESIDENT: When the
ground shakes, we stand.
You need to shut that off.
The CMEs must have knocked it
out when it hit Earth.
No, you need...
Its too much, okay?
Its too noisy.
I dont know where the clicker is.
Im trying to find the clicker.
No, no.
You need to shut it off!
Im trying. Im trying.
Im trying to shut it down.
Its off.
I powered it off.
Okay? I powered it off.
Its off.
No.
I cant. Im...
Im sorry, okay?
Im sorry. Im sorry.
Listen, its okay.
Its okay.
If you could rename the
moon, what would you call it?
What?
What would you name it?
I dont know.
Whatever comes to your mind.
No wrong answers.
What would you name it?
The sun.
Great.
Sit down.
Sit down.
When I see you, I see me.
The old version of me.
Alone.
Head full of static.
Always worrying that the worlds
watching every single twitch.
That weight, it will break you.
It will break you.
Im sorry.
I didnt...
Listen. Just listen.
Okay? Just listen.
If I could give my younger
self any advice,
it would be this.
All that over-correcting.
That wasted, wasted fuel.
Its...
Youll survive.
You will survive and you will wonder why
you carried all that weight
around all by yourself.
But if I dont carry it, then...
the world will...
What?
The world will what?
Once you know the
answer to that question,
youll find that peace.
All right?
You hear me?
Good.
Want some popcorn?
Lets have some popcorn.
- Yeah.
All right.
What do you think Chrissy meant
when she said you
could have been in there?
What do you mean?
- She said that to Yolanda.
Do you think Yolandas
gonna work for David?
Does it matter?
Yes.
He stole my company from me.
Well, she chose us.
But...
But you... But, Molly, stop.
Whatever youre thinking, okay?
Stop.
Yolandas an adult.
She loves Chrissy, she puts up with us,
and we are quite a handful.
So shes making her choices
in life, and guess what?
Shes here now with us.
Help! Hello!
- Do you hear that?
Is someone there?
Help!
The doors jammed!
Pull!
Molly?
What... What are you doing here?
Looking for you.
Dr. Martin, Im a huge fan.
Ive read all your court
cases and your books.
Thats enough.
Right, of course.
Molly, this is my husband, Eric.
How are you?
Good to meet you.
Oh, its like all of
R.E.A.C.T. is back together.
All were missing are your kids.
Are they here?
- Well, I...
The team is not back together.
Shes not a part
of R.E.A.C.T. anymore.
Molly, really, we need
to get out of here now.
For once, Davids right.
The buildings not safe.
We gotta go.
Lets go.
Wait.
We have nothing to discuss.
I know why the sails didnt work.
Its a moot point, okay?
You can launch again,
but not with the umbrellas.
Youre not coming
back to R.E.A.C.T.
This isnt about me.
I have no interest in being
a part of R.E.A.C.T. again.
Yeah, it doesnt sound like it.
This is about saving lives.
This is all gonna get so much
worse if we dont do something
and were running out of time.
Listen to me.
We cant stop the next CME,
but we can dampen its effects.
Molly, you are wasting your time.
We can do that using bulk metallic glass.
Its the same material NASA
used in 2001 for Genesis Probe.
The Genesis Probe was
for collection, not mitigation.
It can mitigate the impact
by absorbing the energy.
It wont leave a trace behind.
It wont pollute the atmosphere.
You know what?
Stay in your lane, okay?
This is my problem to figure out.
Oh my God, that building.
It looks like its gonna
collapse even more.
We have to get down and do something now.
Yeah. Yeah, youre right.
Lets go.
[rumbling]
Lets just keep going forward.
This way.
- Hey.
Are you okay?
Hey.
Im all right.
I just need a second.
Okay. Just stay right here.
Im gonna check everything out.
Okay. Okay...
Watch your step.
You guys, I found another set of stairs.
Me first.
You feel that?
Somethings wrong, I feel a little...
Yeah.
- Sort of woozy.
Its happening again.
Guys, Im not feeling too good.
Its another gravitational pull.
Im feeling kind of light-headed too.
[vomits]
- Hold on to something.
Brace yourself to the ground.
These stairs right here.
These stairs.
Im feeling dizzy...
the air.
Are you okay?
I feel like my feet are
lifting off the ground.
Hold on to me.
Go over there!
Hold on to something.
Gravity shifting.
Hold on tight!
Grab a hold of whatever you can.
Im lifting up off the ground.
Watch out!
- Just hold on! Hold on!
Dont move!
Hold it!
Shes lifting up off the ground!
Watch out!
David!
David, where are you going?
Hold onto something!
[screams]
You okay?
- Yeah, Im good.
You? Okay.
We have to get to them before
this whole building collapses.
We got you.
We got you.
Ty, are you okay?
Yeah, Im all good.
All right, I think its stabilizing.
Okay.
- Were okay.
Okay. Okay.
I think its done.
Okay, lets go.
Okay.
Do you smell that?
What is it?
Its sulfur.
Its coming from over there.
Where are you going?
It could be another clue.
Are you crazy? Youre gonna
walk into the building
after were trying to get out of here?
Ill go with you.
Take your friend and go find
David Diaz and find an exit.
Ill go with Molly.
Go ahead.
Ty, come on!
Okay, Rachel, Im coming.
Hold up, Molly.
Oh, my God.
That stench.
Its sulfur, but its sharp and pungent.
Probably a broken sewer line.
Sewer gas smells like rotten eggs.
This is rotten eggs mixed
with burning matches.
Thats magma.
Magma? Theres no active
volcanoes near here.
Thats the smell.
Its a continental rift.
There are basins all over the East Coast.
The magma had nowhere to go
except for these basins way underground.
This surface rupture, its a result of
a deep crack within the Earths crust.
This is a geological event
that should take centuries,
but its happening in a matter of days.
Why is it blue?
Somethings happening under there.
And all of this geomagnetic energy,
its accelerating whatever that is.
So the whole Earth is breaking apart.
We have to find the others
and get out of here now!
Yolanda?
What is that?
I dont know.
Its not good.
Come on, take cover!
I thought you knew everything!
Clay would know.
Yeah, yeah, probably.
We have to find another way.
All the doors are blocked off.
Why am I not surprised that
David just ran away like that?
Molly...
No, he doesnt think about anybody.
Right, for right now, lets just focus
on finding Chrissy and Yolanda.
You dont think I am?
Come on, Im not like David.
What?
I didnt say anything.
Sure seems like it.
Are you that determined
on getting R.E.A.C.T. back
or proving that Davids
nothing without you?
Hes doing fine proving
that all on his own.
He failed and now the Earth
is destroying itself from the inside.
And were all going to deal
with the effects of that,
especially our kids.
No argument there.
But Molly, look at Clay.
He was too terrified
to even come with us.
And Chrissy, shes very capable.
But you treat her like
shes ten years old.
What are you trying to say?
That theyre struggling.
Yeah, this is hard on everybody.
You want to protect our kids?
Be a mom, not a commander.
You think I want this life for them?
You dont think Id rather
Chrissy with her big heart
join the Peace Corps
or do something amazing?
Or Clay with his big brain cure cancer.
They dont have a choice.
They were born into a war and they have
to fight to have those things later on.
Were all going to die if we
dont stop these geostorms.
Thats your rationale?
Risking them because
you cant save yourself?
Molly, they are not you.
Let them be themselves.
Why are we fighting about this
if not for a future for them?
If we make it through this,
we need to have a bigger talk.
Help!
Get it off!
No, no, no.
- Thats not going to move.
Yolanda!
Over here!
I found a way in!
Come on, hurry, I can hear them!
Molly!
What happened?
- Are you okay?
The roof caved in.
Fortunate for your fast exit, huh, David?
I was trying to get help.
Guys, are all the stairways blocked?
We just need a crowbar or something.
Are you okay?
Im fine, okay?
Just get me out of here.
Mom!
Dad! Are you guys there?
Dad!
- Chrissy!
Mom!
- Chrissy!
Yolanda.
Let me see this.
All right.
Im going to wedge it in here.
Im going to try to
lift about half an inch.
Thats about all I can do.
You have to pull him out.
On the count of three.
You got it?
Yep.
One, two, three!
Pull! Pull! Pull!
Pull! Pull!
Pull!
Pull him out!
Pull!
Were going to go over this.
This is it.
Our only way out.
You ready?
Start climbing!
Go! Lets go!
Whos next?
Careful. Careful.
Lets go.
- Careful.
Anybody else?
Anybody else down there?
Yell out if youre there!
I think thats it.
Lets go.
Oh, no.
Look whos here.
Are you okay?
Is the team intact?
Yes, yes, were fine.
Listen, you should
send more rescue crews in
to check for more survivors.
Yeah, okay, but David...
Look, I know, the data was incorrect,
but we can get back on track.
You need to go back to the president.
You need to tell him
that we cant give up now.
This is too important, okay?
Are you two getting
the band back together?
What?
Molly?
No.
Molly is unhinged, okay?
She is not qualified.
Shes not a team player.
She undermines literally everything.
The president wants this.
Do you want me to
convey your reservations,
or would you like to call him yourself?
Molly!
Oh, great.
Here we go again.
Its good to see you.
Are you okay?
Is the family okay?
I came to see if I could help in any way.
We didnt expect the whole facility
to be in ruins when we got here.
The geostorms are growing globally
at an uncontrollable rate.
Theres a deep fissure
inside the Wallops facility.
It measures miles
under the Earths crust.
Theres magma coming
from continental rifts there.
Youre positive?
Absolutely.
And it gave me an idea.
The lava veins, they were
emitting a strange color.
It wasnt orange.
It was a bright blue glow.
It smelled like sulfur.
I wasnt sure why at first,
but then I realized.
Ionized gases.
Exactly.
So heres my theory.
Weve always had solar flares.
Always.
But why are we having this
problem now with the geostorms?
Because were in a feedback loop.
How?
Why now, after billions of years?
The solar flares,
they ionize the atmosphere,
triggering disasters like earthquakes.
The earthquakes pump ions
back into the geostorms.
Repeat.
It just keeps feeding itself.
We have to break the cycle.
What is your solution?
Disrupt the ions.
But we dont have any tools or resources.
We need bulk metallic glass.
We launch it into the mesosphere
right before the next geostorm.
The glass will reflect the solar flares,
and stopping that feedback loop.
Well need an insane amount of it.
Where would we source this?
Fusion reactors.
Yeah. But where are
you getting it from?
Amazon?
JPL.
Does this mean we get Molly
back on the R.E.A.C.T. team?
No.
- No.
You two have to work this out.
Im here on behalf of the president,
and hes willing to do whatever it takes
to support R.E.A.C.T.,
Dr. Diaz, and the team.
And Molly, you could be part of this.
Sorry.
I need to think about this.
Whats going on?
They want us to work with David,
but we gotta speak to Travis first.
[knocking]
Its open.
Hey, kids.
Rough night at the office?
Remember the movie "Grease?"
At the end when the car
goes flying through the air?
Yeah, its classic.
Thats what happened to me.
Did you know Sandy
was dead the entire movie?
Yeah.
She drowned at the beginning.
Ascended to heaven in a 1948
Ford Super Deluxe Convertible.
Pretty cool, right?
You need to get out more.
Molly.
Come here.
So estimates have the next solar flare
peaking at about...
what time is it?
Three hours.
And then one 27 hours after that.
So theres less than 30
hours between those big hits.
But theres more.
The sun is 300,000
times bigger than Earth.
So it has a stronger pull of gravity.
Yeah, thats why we rotate around it.
When two objects are closer,
the gravitys stronger.
When its further away,
the weaker it gets.
Clay, are you saying that the Earth
is pulling away from the suns orbit?
No. The Earths gravity
comes from its own mass.
Not the suns.
But if the Earth is
pulling away from the sun,
that would mean the Earth is somehow...
losing its own mass.
Am I hearing that correctly?
CMEs are whats causing
all the electrical storms,
solar flares, earthquakes...
And its worse than before.
Theres been documented proof
of ball lightning all over the world.
Ball lightning?
- Told you Clay would know.
Wait, you guys saw one in person?
That explains the
ionized fissure at Wallops.
Ionized fissure?
Is that a thing now?
It might be the thing.
Ooh, a disruptor.
Exactly.
A bulk metallic glass package.
Its our best solution.
Why?
And where do we get metallic glass?
Weather satellites?
ISS stations?
Right.
Right.
So?
A disruptor because BMG powder
retains energy absorbing properties and
neutralizes solar flare ions.
I like this team.
Not bad, right?
And the BMGs protect the structures.
Its like Superman with kryptonite
or a vibranium shield against...
So what youre saying is if we get enough
bulk metallic glass, we can
effectively stop this geostorm.
It can absorb the ions.
Yes.
Well, how do we physically get it?
Getting its not the problem.
Its where to launch it
thats more difficult.
See, before the storm there were
15 operational launch pads in the US.
And now?
With Wallops down, three.
And you wont establish a
remote interlink connection
in time for that.
Does anybody know any
rich folk that arent in jail?
Funny.
I mean, I do.
I know a guy, but hes in California.
Californias been hit pretty hard.
Its an underground silo designed
to withstand a nuclear attack.
I only know this because I helped
build the molecular dynamics structures.
Why would a private
citizen need a space shuttle?
I didnt ask.
I just built it.
No. President Carlson instituted
martial law in California.
You have to be a resident
to get into the entire state.
Well figure it out.
Were still technically
residents there, but
just in case, I ran into
FEMA director Natasha Nakami.
We have full support
of President Carlson.
David Diaz does.
We dont.
No, were fine.
Natashas on our side.
And shes seen Davids messy handiwork
on more than one occasion.
David?
Why would we even...
If we can just,
if we can get to California,
we would have full
access to the facilities.
I still have some connections
with some military buddies.
Can you get a plane?
Why is David involved?
Im going.
- Youll need me, too.
Seriously!
Are we working with David Diaz again?
Mom, the man took
your company away from you
and you want to work with him again?
I dont get it.
Clay!
Go ahead.
Say it.
You always said, stand up
for what you believe in.
Is that a lie?
Or out of convenience?
Heres what I believe.
And its going to be
hard for you to hear.
I believe were going to die
if we dont do something.
And sometimes when your
backs against the wall,
you need everyone you can
working towards the same goal.
I know who David is.
I know we cant trust him
most of the time,
but hes a smart man.
And we need him.
Just as much as he needs us.
Where are you going?
Back.
Okay, you justified everything.
Youre so smart, but
you understand nothing.
You think your dad and I do this
because its the easiest way?
No.
Its because right now
this is the only way.
And if we have to deal with David
or some billionaire
named Griffin Richards,
thats just the price we pay.
Life isnt always so
morally clear and simple.
The only clarity your dad and I have
is your safety and survival.
Thats our guiding light.
You need to find yours.
Hey, Tony.
Thanks for flying us on short notice.
Happy to be of service.
So were good here?
Ive done this a thousand times.
Youre in good hands.
Now take your seat, please.
All right, everyone.
Now, the FAAs going to
start locking down US air space
in the next several hours.
With the inclement
weather thats coming in.
That means buckle up, Travis.
We have to get above the storm.
Its going to get a little bit bumpy.
Hang on, please.
Did he say hang on?
He did.
Hang on.
Were entering the geostorm.
We have a little bit of chop going on.
Hang on.
Were almost through the storm.
Ill get you through this.
Hang on.
I dont want to crash.
Were going to be okay.
Baby? Breathe.
Were going to get past this.
Okay?
Count to five.
And breathe.
Three.
Four.
Hang on.
Were almost through the storm.
[gasps]
Now that were through,
enjoy the rest of your flight.
You good?
- Yeah.
Are you?
A thousand times.
Damn.
Molly, you have a phone call.
Ill be right back.
Thanks.
This is Molly.
I ran the numbers.
The metallic glass package wont work.
What do you mean it wont work?
Your numbers are flawed.
The geostorms too big.
You dont have enough BMGs
to dissipate in the clouds.
I know.
We just need enough
to start a small hole.
Its a feedback loop.
Itll take care of itself after that.
Thats just a theory.
You have no real evidence
that any of this will work.
None. Zero.
You have to stop this back and forth.
Take all the credit if you want.
Im not going to fight with you.
I have the means to launch.
But its in California and
theyre under strict martial law.
You have the power of the president.
So either get us through the checkpoints
and help us save the world, or die
a petty little man in
your perfectly pressed suit
and manicured hands
without saving anyone.
Your choice.
Everything okay?
Yeah.
Only California residents
can pass this checkpoint.
Martial law has been
declared in California
by order of President Carlson!
So David Diaz is the devil
regardless if he helps us or not.
I could really use that
vacation right about now.
This reminds me of, uh...
Uganda, 2013?
- Yes, exactly.
Seems like simpler times.
No they werent.
- Simpler for us.
People change.
And thats okay.
And?
He got you through.
Will wonders never cease.
And he got you a private transport.
Still dont trust him.
Devil.
Definitely the devil.
Well...
Still, we need him.
Lets go.
My guy was surprised to
hear from me, but he said
hell have the rocket prepped
and ready for BMG delivery.
This is the control base.
They got the silo online
prepared for countdown start.
Were cutting it close.
Its 7:29 p.m.
The X-93 reaches peak within the hour.
The payload team is just waiting
for the bulk metallic glass
to arrive and we can initiate countdown.
[alarm sounds]
I didnt touch anything!
- What did you do?
Its a failsafe.
I have some redundancies
built in. I got it.
Three, two, one.
So its sensing a zap coming through so
the backups are
happening after the reboot.
We wouldve been aware of this had
we been sitting here 45 minutes ago.
Guys, this is not good for the launch.
My NASA software wont be of any use now.
So we have no idea
when the solar flare actually
hits peak and cant
track the CME eruption?
Were working blind.
We need to work the phones.
We need to get the glass.
We need to get direct access to NASA.
We need to go all the way
to the President.
Natasha, I know its asking a lot,
but the President has to clear
airspace for the transport.
It is urgent.
Okay, okay.
Tell Director Landsberg this
is a direct order
from President Carlson.
Yes, NASA will fully be compensated.
Oh, come on.
No, you dont have to put me
through to another department.
NOAA can just send over the data so I can
crunch the mass estimate
numbers on my end.
David, where are we?
Clearing airspace now.
30 minutes?
Thats a tight window.
No, I appreciate it.
Thank you.
Bulk metallic glass being loaded in 15.
About two hours until touchdown.
Lets get ready.
The glass package is 15 minutes out.
What was that?
We lost bay door control of the silo.
I can try and override.
The signals dead.
The lightning strike must
have taken out the antenna.
The Falcon wont launch
until we get that back.
Where is it?
Wheres the antenna?
North exit, top of the gantry.
It takes two.
One to hold the cover open,
the other to reconnect it.
Got it.
- Dad, Ill go with you.
Okay, lets go.
Well be right back.
- Yeah.
Come on.
Does it ever get any easier?
Nope.
We need to get back inside
before the next round of lightning.
Right behind you.
- Yeah, I know.
Okay.
Grab the connector and reconnect it.
All right, hold on, hold on.
- Ill hold the cover.
Alrighty.
You gotta shear it lower.
- I know what Im doing.
You need to do it simultaneously.
All right.
Dont switch anything yet.
Hold on.
Im not.
All right, hold on.
- You almost got it.
All right, I got it.
No, I got it.
Ready?
- Yep.
One...
Two, three.
- Two, three.
[powering up]
Its working!
- Go!
Lets go.
- Go, go, go!
Both antennas online.
Theres a heavy storm front
moving very fast in our direction.
Im going to circle around, stand by.
We have to launch.
Theres no way through.
Im going to have to land.
Im losing control.
I cant fight the storm.
Hello?
Hello?
That was our only shot.
Theres no more BMG.
That was everything out there.
Thats it.
Out there.
I know this, Clay.
What do you got?
Its the satellites.
The weather ones, the GPS, the military.
Some of them have BMG
powder on them, right?
You know, for backup fixes, redundancies.
Yeah, and most of them have
at least 10 to 50 liters each.
Can you get any of them on remote?
You should probably limit
to magnetic confinement pads.
Thats the most reliable.
- Good idea.
We should be dealing with weather and...
Military.
- Right.
Yeah.
- How many?
Uh, 500, maybe even 1,000.
Thats great.
Yeah, but 10 will do if we
just strategically place them.
Ill call David.
Yolanda, get Natasha.
Yep.
Ill call NASA.
A few others.
If we can coordinate a signal for launch.
Uh, multiple tanks to
release BMGs all over
the entire globe at the exact same time.
Yes, brilliant.
Brilliant, brilliant.
Natasha, this is
Dr. Yolanda Lee.
Ive got a lock on GO-16.
Its pinging back
from geostationary orbit
at 35,800 kilometers.
Pull up the command interface.
NOAA uses CC-SDS protocols.
Should be able to spoof
an admin handshake
if we route through their
ground station in Wallops.
X-37Bs comms link is
encrypted end-to-end.
NSA grade AES-256.
Start by spoofing their uplink frequency.
Theyre using S-band, same as GPS.
Frequency match.
Sending handshake request.
Injecting fake credentials.
Handshake initiated.
Wait.
Theyre running MIL-STD-1553
bus architecture.
That means that manual
overrides are possible,
but theyre buried deep
in the subsystems.
Hey, this is Travis Hayes.
Focus on the payload bay.
Pods magnetic confinement should show up
under experimental systems.
All right, query the manifest.
Running decryption algorithm.
God, this is slow.
Come on. You can do it.
Hurry up. The solar flare
ETA is less than one minute,
and the apocalypse wont wait.
Let me...
- Got it. Thanks, Dr. Hayes.
We need to release the BMG.
Everybody ready in ten, nine, eight,
seven, six, five,
four, three, two, one.
Yes!
Yes.
Okay, it worked.
We did it.
Again.
I like you guys.
We make a good team.
Got a place I can park my RV?
[phone vibrates]
Oh, hey. You know, Natasha
keeps calling from FEMA.
Yeah, she wants me to
meet with the president.
Yeah, you should go.
I dont know.
Clay got me thinking.
About what?
The friends I keep.
People I want to associate with.
Yeah, but its our job.
Well, weve done our job.
Youre right. We have.
Hey, Mom. Yolanda and I
were wondering if...
Dad, where are you going?
Well, your mom and I have
been just discussing...
Are you serious?
You can figure out how to save the world,
but you cant figure out how
to save your marriage?
Honey.
Unbelievable.
Ill talk to her.
- Wait a second.
Youre an amazing mother.
I was too hard on you earlier.
Youre an incredible father.
[alarm sounds]
Oh, no.
