Harem Complex (2022) Movie Script
(Upbeat music)
How we were so long ago,
will you ever come down
Lonely on the telephone
with a ghost on the other end
Say how long it's been will I
see you again, my old friend
Do I want to
Man I need ya
Locked up for these lonely
nights with my bitter heart
Grows worse and if I'm back out again
How can we start over again
And do we want to
(bells ringing)
(gentle music)
[Chiara] Be small.
[Jamey] Well, like cozy, cozy house.
Big or small, it's gotta be cozy.
[Chiara] What about an Earthship,
would you do an Earthship?
[Jamey] I did.
[Chiara] That's a hard one.
[Jamey] I did tell my
surrogate grandfather
that I knew what it meant to love someone
for their entire life.
You got it?
Yeah.
Do I look sexy?
Yes, you do.
How sexy?
Very sexy.
Okay, yes.
That felt very sincere and beautiful.
And he was like-
Go slow, okay.
Stick your butt out.
Ready?
Okay, go.
(both laughing)
Yeah.
I don't know, I just, I guess
it just kind of surprised me
because I thought they
were gonna be together
for a really long time, you know?
Yeah.
All I know is we're gonna be together
for a really long time, I promise.
I will always love you.
I appreciate you.
(Chiara giggling)
(gentle music)
It's so pretty out here.
Jerk.
Oh, it is beautiful.
Come back.
You okay?
Yeah.
(cellphone ringing)
I'm just tired.
Me too.
I've been having these crazy dreams.
I'm awake running upstairs.
Can't tell if I'm dreaming or I'm awake
and I wake up and I'm dreaming.
Lord.
(cellphone ringing)
Who's blowing you up?
I don't know.
Tell me about your dream.
This one, I was running up these stairs
and each stair became a sponge.
I'm gonna, sorry babe.
[Jamey] Huh?
Hello?
[Desy] Hello.
Is this Chiara Collins?
Is anyone there?
Yeah.
Sorry, just a sec.
Is this a dream?
Desy?
[Desy] My sweet dear
Chiara, how are you, my dialing?
I'm good.
I'm good.
How are you?
[Desy] I'm absolutely splendid.
I can hardly believe I found you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's been a really long time.
[Desy] I know.
Isn't it amazing?
We have so much to catch up on.
Let's get together immediately.
How does that sound?
Desy?
Are you in Santa Fe?
[Desy] I am darling.
I am.
Where are you?
[Desy] Oh, I just moved
into the funkiest looking place.
It's an old barn that's been
turned into apartments.
Isn't that just so charming?
Have you heard of the Art Barn?
[Desy And Jamey] Is everything alright?
How long do you think you'll be?
Maybe an hour.
I don't know.
I was thinking about inviting
her over for dinner tonight
and that way we could all hang out.
Great.
Maybe we can play a board game.
Yeah, maybe.
I will be back soon.
Okay.
Sweet Prince, every
second you are gone, I burn
and it is complete agony.
Aw.
Well, a good knight should enjoy such pain.
And so I shall.
All right, I'll be right back.
Okay.
Okay.
Love you.
Love you too.
(bell ringing)
(gentle music)
How are you?
I'm great.
Look at you.
You look amazing, Desy.
Oh my goodness.
I've been looking for you for months.
It's like you didn't even exist.
Yeah, I know.
I don't have social media anymore.
I just like, it stresses me out.
(Desy giggling)
(Jamey sighing)
(cellphone ringing)
Re-Re.
[Renne] Hello?
What's up?
[Renne] I'm having a party tonight.
I'm inviting you and Chiara.
Yay.
Parties.
I love parties.
Re-Re, I have to tell you something.
Do you remember when I told
you about Chiara's first crush?
[Renne] Yes.
It was a weird thing to tell me.
I tell you everything.
She's here.
Should I be concerned?
[Renne] Maybe.
Things have not been great lately.
[Renne] I know.
Des, this is amazing.
Honestly, I seriously never thought
I would see you ever again.
You still call me Des.
That brings me back so many memories.
Yeah.
What should I do?
[Renne] Invite them to the party.
Okay.
[Renne] Is she with her now?
Yep.
[Renne] When was the last
time you two were intimate?
Well, it's been a while.
[Renne] Jamey, you need
to have sex with your girlfriend.
I know.
I'm sorry.
I mean, I'm not sorry.
I mean, I'm sorry.
Ah.
You were in France, right?
That's where you went?
[Desy] Yeah.
Tell me.
Tell me about it.
Well, France, Italy, Spain, all around.
You know how I am?
And we actually settled over in Paris.
That's where my parents are now.
You know, doing their
whole nuclear research.
Yeah, right.
I remember.
Yeah.
You know, and, but I can
never get on board with it.
Is that why you came back?
I've been fortunate up until now.
Simply said, I was cut off.
Oh.
Yeah, I know.
But I think the curse of privilege
is trying to get adjusted to poverty.
Okay.
That sounded really bad.
I'm so sorry.
I'm not, I'm not really like that.
You know, I'll say it like this.
Paris is just simply too expensive,
and my partner and I
decided to just stay here
until we can get the money to move back.
You should come with us.
You'd really love Maggie.
You can come back to Paris.
(Chiara giggling)
I don't think my partner
would really like that very much.
You know, we actually
live right underneath you.
What?
Yeah.
I saw you moving in this morning.
I didn't know it was you, but
I knew it was you and it was.
Yeah.
That's a good thing I called you then.
Yeah.
Seriously.
This is amazing.
Oh, what's your partner's name?
Jamey.
Yeah, he's great.
[Jamey] What time's the party?
[Renne] 11-ish.
Sweet baby.
[Renne] In the meantime,
don't say anything dumb.
Say nothing.
Got it.
Bye.
[Renne] Bye.
(Jamey sighing)
We were gonna invite
you over tonight, actually.
He's gonna like force us to
play board games and stuff,
but we really, we don't have to.
We can just like hang out and have drinks
or we don't have to have drinks.
I don't know if you drink, but whatever.
We can just catch up.
And of course, you should bring Maggie.
I'm excited to meet her.
Well, I think that's a perfect idea.
Oh, and Maggie's pronouns are they/them.
And I look forward to meeting your Jamey.
[Chiara] Yeah.
Yeah.
What time should we come by?
Seven.
Seven?
[Chiara] Yeah.
Okay, cool.
Then at seven, we'll see you.
Okay, great.
Okay.
Welcome home.
I just realized something.
Since we live in the same place,
why don't you just come walk with me?
I was just gonna go run
some errands before we go back,
but I'll catch up with you tonight.
Okay.
There goes my Chiara time, ciao.
(gentle music)
(ominous music)
[Jamey] Hey.
Hey.
How was it?
It was good.
I invited her over for dinner tonight.
(upbeat music)
[Jamey] Spoon.
Well, I definitely lost.
So how'd you two meet?
Porn?
Really?
I was behind the cameras, mostly.
I've never met anyone
who's done porn before.
What's it like?
I think you know what it's like.
[Desy] Be nice.
Sorry.
Sorry.
Anyway, I was casting with this company
and one day this beautiful
creature walks into audition
and that's how we first met.
I was honestly so scared my first time.
And so Maggie came up to me
and said that I was the
most beautiful woman
that they had ever laid their eyes on.
I say that to all the actors.
I fell in love instantly.
So does sex ever feel
like not as special or like,
do you get tired of it ever?
Sorry if this is a weird question.
I'm just.
Is it okay if I smoke inside?
It's just a spliff.
Sure.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Let me get you a thing.
[Desy] Thank you.
[Chiara] Here you go.
Thank you, sweetie.
It gets pretty exhausting, you know?
Everyone expects me
to do it all and know it all.
But thanks to the
industry, I was able to know
where my boundaries are.
I also realized that when I'm on camera,
it's a performance.
Whenever I am really enjoying myself,
I don't care what I look like.
And the only time I really feel that way
is when I'm with someone that I love.
So there's a big difference
between loving someone
like just sex and being
in love with someone.
I'm not so convinced
there is a difference.
Just two points in the same
map, if that makes any sense.
In loveness is just infatuation.
It's an exaggeration.
Your brain being optimistic
about what could happen.
Love is just like anything else.
You practice at it
and you get better at it.
Maggie and I are poly,
so we get a lot of practice.
What's that?
[Maggie] Polyamory.
[Chiara] So you have
an open relationship?
Sort of.
Everybody has their own definitions.
Huh?
We've never really talked about that.
[Maggie] So how did you two meet?
In high school.
So sweet, high school sweethearts.
And I guess then monogamy
just kind of came naturally to us.
Well, that's good.
Finding something that
works for both of you.
I think that's beautiful.
How does it work?
Polyamory?
Well, every relationship is different
and the future is always uncertain.
So I feel like the key is just
making your own rules up as you go along.
Facing challenges as they come.
Communication is key,
but we all know that we're not meant
to just love one person forever.
It's a natural.
We're trained from a young age
to believe that we're incomplete
without another person.
And that's just not true.
I have never been in a relationship
where I didn't desire another person
other than my main partner.
And I honestly don't feel bad about it.
Yeah, it can get a
little dramatic at times.
You love it.
Don't you get jealous?
No, darling.
We create a greater love for one another.
Compersion, love for love.
You see, jealousy is choice.
Yeah.
Jealousy happens to
everybody, myself included.
But you deal with it and you get better.
Renne invited us to her party tonight
and you both are invited.
Yeah.
Actually.
Yes, totally.
You guys would love Renne.
And I think you guys are
pretty much neighbors now.
She lives upstairs too,
but I don't know if she's
right next to you guys or not.
You should come over 'cause-
Definitely, love to
meet all your friends.
Sounds rad.
Can't wait.
Great.
Cheers.
To love.
(gentle music)
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
In the dark of the night
You have come to life
Have you been all right
It was all in the mind
Yeah, yeah
(upbeat music)
You got I want
Are you feeling better?
Oh.
You seemed pretty excited last night.
Re-Re puts on such a good party
and that show at the end.
Just wish I hadn't drank so much.
I wish I didn't have to go to work.
Yeah, I had fun too.
I know you had fun.
[Chiara] What is that supposed to mean?
No, no, no.
I know you're excited that
Desdemona is back in town.
Why'd you say her name like that?
It's a funny name.
Desdemona.
Des-de-steal-your-man-Mona.
She still likes you.
No.
[Jamey] No?
That's just how she is.
She's a flirtatious person.
She's always been like
that, even when we were kids.
It's just who she is.
[Jamey] All I know is I feel like shit
and I'm never going out again.
You should drink some more water.
Thank you.
You know, you should
try to be their friend.
They're new in town and
it's hard to meet people here.
And I am happy that they're both here.
I like them.
I will, I'll make an effort.
Maggie though, she doesn't like me.
Maggie's pronoun is they.
They.
Right, right, right, right.
And maybe you just need to make an effort
to get to know them.
I'll do my best.
I will.
Thanks.
Last night you said something about like,
we've never talked about being open.
Did you mean anything by that?
No.
I was just making conversation.
Did you wanna talk about it?
No, no, no, no, no.
It just came to mind.
You know what we should do?
We should do something fun together.
You and me.
Remember when we used to take mushrooms
and go to the Aspens?
That was fun.
Yeah.
I miss that.
Let's do that.
Yeah, let's plan it out.
Good.
Okay.
(Jamey sighing)
I think it's time for work.
I need to go too.
I love you.
I love you.
Don't worry about this, I got it.
No, I got it.
You sure?
Yeah.
No good
(gentle music)
I got this.
You got that.
To your house
Familiar marks, the smoke smells
I go inside your house
(bells ringing)
(bell chiming)
(gentle music)
(door knocking)
Entrer.
Chiara.
Hi.
Did you enjoy the party last night?
[Chiara] Yeah, I did.
All according to plan.
What plan?
We'll be the best of friends, my dear.
You'll think of me and our potential.
As your desire increases,
you'll be unsure of what to tell him.
(gentle music)
And as you grow apart,
you'll refuse to say anything's wrong.
Be unsure of what to do or what to say.
And he'll blame himself.
Poor Jamey, he'll think it's all his fault.
He'll break up with you.
That's okay.
So you'll be set free.
[Chiara] That's not what I want.
[Desy] Do you really know
what you want, my dear?
(gentle music)
(door knocking)
[Maggie] Who is it?
It's Chiara.
Sorry if I'm bothering you.
Oh, hey.
What's up?
Hey, nothing.
Just, just gonna see if
you guys are free, I guess.
Could have just texted
since I was downstairs.
And you're upstairs.
Just-
[Maggie] Right on.
What a lovely surprise.
Come in, I'm as free as can be.
I thought you were
searching for a job today.
It can wait.
Yeah, I'm sure it can.
Anyway, we'll hang out later.
I'm gonna go job-hunting.
Good luck, my dear.
Best success.
Thank you.
Let me know if you find anything.
[Maggie] Will do.
Bye, nerds.
[Chiara] Good luck.
Chiara, come have a seat.
To what do I owe the
pleasure of this visit?
What?
No, nothing.
Just wasn't doing anything.
I thought I'd come say hi.
I'm glad you did.
Where is, remind me his name.
Jamey.
Jamey, that's right.
I'm sorry if I was rude last night.
I might have had a
little too much to drink.
I didn't think you were rude.
[Desy] Oh good.
I believe that you like him, that Jamey.
Do you maybe wanna go for a walk?
[Desy] Oh, absolutamente.
Let's go right away.
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
You know me
I'm your fucking best friend
You know me
We didn't get away with it
You know me
I'm your fucking nightmare
You know me
Your mom really likes me
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
You know me
I'm the one you fucking love
You know me
The one that doesn't give a fuck
You know me
I'm the one who took your pocket knife
You know me
I, I jumped in the pool
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
So have you noticed?
Oh, darling, of course I did.
It looks lovely on you.
When you lost it I
wanted to find it so bad
that I dug up the entire
playground looking for it.
Oh, I remember, you're best work yet.
All the kids in the playground
were tripping over them.
It was amazing.
I was totally covered
in dirt by the end of it.
And you know what?
I didn't even find it in the playground.
It was in the parking lot.
I found it when my
parents came to pick me up.
I wonder how it got there.
(gentle music)
I don't think I know anybody
as long as I've known you.
Well, I love that.
Makes me a little more special, doesn't it?
(gentle music)
You said that you're in
Spain for a while, right?
Yeah.
So why do you ask?
I just wanna hear about it.
I've always wanted to go.
Oh, you would love it.
The Alhambra, it's like
nothing you've ever seen before.
It's just, you should go.
I mean, it's not too late.
Yeah, maybe, I don't know.
Jamey and I talk about
going to Mexico sometimes,
but, guess it just feels like
we settled in after college,
you know?
I don't know.
Well, I think Mexico's
an excellent choice.
And if you wanna go, you
can just go, just plan a trip,
and set up the budget,
and buy your plane ticket,
and off you go.
Oh, money's not the issue.
Is that so?
Money bags.
(Desy giggles)
(gentle music)
So something you don't know about me,
in college I studied creative writing
and I am writing a book.
Is it about me?
[Chiara] It's about
the Spanish colonization
of North America.
Do tell me more.
Well, two main characters
are these Spanish conquistadores
and they're scouts.
So they're kind of off on
this adventure by themselves.
And hopefully, it's exciting.
It's supposed to be an adventure novel.
But then underneath that, I've layered in
how they're struggling
to relate to each other
because they have
disagreements about the morals
and motives behind
colonization of this new place
and quote-unquote
discovering the people and stuff.
And I don't know, I make it sound boring.
Sweetheart, not a single thing
that comes out of your mouth is boring.
I love seeing you excited like that.
You know, whenever you finish,
I do hope that you keep
sweet little old me in mind
to be the first one to read your book.
Of course.
No, really, I'd love for you to read it.
I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
I can't wait.
I never knew you had such a passion
for history and writing.
Yeah, I didn't really,
until, it's recently sort of.
Do you and Jamey
ever visit the hot springs?
I mean, we talk about it all the time.
Just doesn't ever happen.
I'll say it like this.
You come up anytime,
just like you did today.
And we can go on any
adventure you like or just talk.
Thanks.
Yeah, that sounds nice.
So I spoke to your father briefly.
That's actually how I got your number.
I know, stalker.
But you know what I find funny?
An old man like him has a much
larger social media presence
than his beautiful young daughter.
So he told you then?
He did.
I'm sorry.
I didn't know how to bring it up.
It's okay.
It was a long time ago.
It's still weird to talk about it.
So I just don't bring it up usually.
I hope I'm not overstepping
my boundaries or anything.
But how did she pass?
I just, I, I wish I could have been there,
not a thousand miles away.
I just wish I could have supported you.
You didn't have to be alone.
I wasn't alone.
I feel like I've been
really shut in lately.
You know, it's just like me and Jamey
in our own little world all
the time, just in our routine.
And I really need more friends.
Really bad.
Well, it's a good thing
you're sweet, dear friend
has come into your life again.
I know it's been far too long, but.
Well, you have perfect timing.
I'm always here when you need me, right?
Yeah.
(gentle music)
I have so many stories to share with you
and it's just.
I wanna hear all about 'em.
(gentle music)
Was meant to fly
'Cause it is a long road
Oh, the one who's fair and kind
A clear sight, sighting
Oh
Wonder of my life
A gunshot.
She cries out to me.
I refuse.
Unless she stays.
So she stays.
Ah.
And I woke up so mad.
Isn't that so messed up?
Ah.
[Renne] When Chiara heard
about her mom, you were there.
The support you gave
her took a lot outta you.
Yeah.
[Renne] Perhaps you
grew emotionally dependent
on one another.
Dependent.
Isn't that what relationships
are all about though?
Two people as one.
[Renne] Codependence isn't healthy.
What about two trees growing as one,
two souls as one?
[Renne] You're not a tree.
Do you even know what your soul is?
(gentle music)
No.
I have no idea.
Re-Re, am I supposed
to just let Chiara fly away
without putting up a fight?
[Renne] Yeah, she's her own person.
Ah.
Well, okay.
[Renne] Do you think
you can control her, Jay?
No, of course not.
And I don't want to, but I
do want to do something.
I don't wanna lose my girlfriend.
[Renne] Chiara supports
your relationship with me.
And we also used to date in middle school.
Well, that's my point.
We used to date and then
you left me for a woman
and I'm supposed to accept that again.
Ugh.
[Renne] Yeah, Jamey you will.
Because you love Chiara and you love me.
You've only ever wanted
the best for anyone.
You're gonna take the high road
because you know it's what you want.
Ah.
(Jamey sighing)
I'm sorry.
I really am grateful.
Re-Re, I wish you were here
so you could crush me like you used to.
[Renne] What are you going to do?
I'll love Chiara no matter what.
[Renne] Good boy.
I want to do something special with C.
Can I buy some mushrooms off you?
[Renne] Sure.
Thanks, Re-Re.
[Renne] No problem.
I gotta go.
Talk to you later.
Bye-bye.
(Jamey sighing)
(water boiling)
(knife chopping)
(heart beating)
(knife chopping)
(heart beating)
[Chiara] Come back.
(Jamey sighing)
(upbeat music)
I've been wasting all my time
Trying to figure out
what's mine, oh, mine
What ya gonna do with all that money
Sleeping days are over honey
You broke it, but you won't buy it
I've got a fuse but you won't light it
I got a name but you won't write it
Yeah, yeah
C, I've been thinking about something
for a little while now.
And ever since Desy came to town,
I've been feeling far from you.
And it's hard for me to explain.
But.
C?
I'm sorry.
No, no, no, no.
Hey, I just, I just wanna know
if you're falling out of love with me.
No, no, that's not.
Then what's happening?
What's, what's happening?
I think we've become complacent.
Complacent?
I think the way that Desy
and Maggie live their lives
is interesting and that maybe we,
maybe we could learn some things from that.
Like what?
I don't know.
Isn't there anything
that you'd like to try?
Well, yeah, of course.
There's a lot of things
I can think of that,
I think I might wanna
try some someday, but-
Yeah.
I mean, you really wanna talk about it?
Yes.
That's exactly what I want.
I wanna talk about these things more.
Good.
Great.
What I hear you saying is that
you feel like there's more to
discover between us, together.
And that feelings that you
have for Desy or anyone,
they don't diminish the
feelings you have for me.
[Chiara] Yes.
[Jamey] Well then, let's work it out.
Let's talk to Desy.
Let's talk to Maggie, whoever.
Let's figure something out that honors us,
honors our feelings.
Okay.
Yeah, I would love that.
[Jamey] I would love that for us.
I'm so glad we're talking about it.
Thank you for saying something.
Thank you for being wise, sweet Prince.
I love you.
I love you.
(upbeat music)
I am enough, enough to say it all
And if you want
Oh, that was so yummy.
So what's up Jay?
Oh, I got the mushrooms from Renne.
And I think Sunday would be a great time
to go up to the mountain.
Yeah.
You still want to go, right?
Yeah, totally.
Absolutely.
That sounds great.
Let's do it.
Good.
It'll be good for us.
I'll get the gear.
Don't worry about a thing.
Okay.
Sounds good.
Hey, how was that,
how's that chapter coming?
The one you told me about the other day?
About the trees?
It's about leaves.
Leaves on the trees.
Right.
It's fine.
It's good.
I think I just have a couple more days
and then I'll be done with it.
Nice.
So I'm almost there.
Nice.
Yeah, it's good.
So I was thinking this week
I wanted to kind of do a girls' night.
Nice.
Maybe with, I was gonna
get Renne together with Desy
and Maggie and kind of just get,
I don't know, some girl time.
Yeah.
It's hard to be new to the city.
For sure, for sure.
So I thought connecting would be nice.
That's a great idea.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Well, tell me how that goes when it happens
and hey, please let me read that chapter
when you're done with it.
About the leaves.
Yeah?
Totally.
Good, good.
Nice.
(upbeat music)
I'm on top of my game
I've known since first grade
You know I'm insane
On top of my game
They all went the same
You know what they say
(upbeat music)
You know it, you got it
You've got it figured out
You know it, don't need them
You've got it figured out
(upbeat music)
[Chiara] I've been having strange dreams.
[Desy] Tell me.
I have this dream about Jamey and me
and we're on this boat in the ocean
and we're going, we're sailing to nowhere
and there's no one, there's nothing.
It's just sky, and water, and, sun.
And I jump off the boat into the ocean,
and I start to sink, and
I just let myself sink,
and I look up, and I can
see Jamey through the water,
and I'm expecting him to jump with me.
But he doesn't.
He just watches and then he keeps going.
Do you love him?
Are you happy?
I am.
Yeah.
I just, I wish I met him
later in life, you know?
Sometimes I think about if we break up
that no one I ever
meet or fall in love with
will know my mom.
I remember her, vaguely.
But I'm sorry it was just so long ago.
No, it's just a thought I have.
It's something to be sorry about.
I think you knew me when I was most pure.
[Desy] Are you not pure anymore?
Well, I just mean that
nobody really knows me
the way you do.
Well, I won't argue that you knew me
when I was much more innocent,
but I know what you mean.
I'm glad you're in my life, love.
I was thinking that you,
and Maggie, and Renne,
and I should get together
for a drink sometime.
[Desy] I love that.
M did promise me that
they wouldn't go job-hunting
on Sunday.
Aren't you supposed to be looking too?
Oh darling, I have a job.
I work from home.
Shall I show you?
[Jamey] You're not
coming to the mountain?
[Chiara] It was the only day
that we could all get together.
But we made plans first, right?
[Chiara] Oh no.
They were both being made at the same time.
Okay.
Okay.
But you know, we delay our plans a lot
because you have to
write and I have to work
and this was supposed to be special.
[Chiara] Jamey, don't make me feel bad
for doing something that I wanna do.
Make you feel bad.
I'm not a villain.
I wanted to take some
drugs, go to the mountain,
and feel close to you.
And I guess now I can only
do a couple of those things
because you are putting us second.
[Chiara] Okay, I'm putting myself first.
How about that?
Fair enough.
But you know, I put a lot of
time and energy into this trip.
I took the day off.
I bought the drugs, I put
this whole bag together
with a tent and sleeping
bag, and food, and drinks,
and condoms.
We were gonna have
sex on drugs in the woods.
That's a classic good time.
Okay.
Jamey, I appreciate the effort
you put into this special date, I do.
Hey, I appreciate it.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that it's not working out.
It's fine.
I wanna go on this date
with you, I do, I really do.
I think it's cool and it's sweet.
I just can't do it today.
Can I do both?
I mean, we can do both together.
I can't go to ladies' night.
I mean, do you wanna
come to ladies' night?
I mean sort of, but no, no, no, no.
I wanna spend time with you.
Okay?
- Okay, yeah.
- Please.
When can you save the bag
and we can go another night?
Please.
Can we just.
I am sorry I got upset.
I want you to do what you wanna do.
I want to go to the mountain.
Okay.
Great.
Yeah, you have a good time.
[Jamey] I'll be back tonight.
Okay.
Shit.
Jesus.
Maggie.
What's up, dork?
Hey, what's up with you?
Taking some lunch to
the big old cross on the hill,
you wanna come with?
Sure.
Are you on a break or something?
Is Desy around?
I have been job searching,
but I think I'm gonna
take a break from that.
And no Desy's back at the place.
Where's your girl?
I think she's back at the
house too, working on her book.
I was at the church earlier.
Have you ever been?
Nope.
I'd recommend it.
It's pretty cool.
Sometimes I like to go in
and just see if I feel something different.
Cool.
I'm gonna go eat.
Wanna come?
Yeah, of course.
Thanks.
Yeah.
(upbeat music)
I was back on the Austin side
I was feeling a little bit high
Want to know what it's like
Just to be high
Turn on the bright sunshine
Everything's going fine
Wanna know what it's like
Just to be really high
(upbeat rock music)
My parents were young, so they split up
when I was about two.
I was raised by my
grandparents, my mom's parents.
And I guess they were sort of conservative.
[Maggie] You guess.
They were, they were conservative.
They had really strict rules
and you did not mess with the rules.
Yeah, I more or less
ran away from my folks.
They weren't terrible people, at least,
they just lost all their passion young
and they couldn't be
bothered to care anymore.
So by the time I was 18, I worked, I saved,
and I decided to leave the country.
[Jamey] Wow.
Is that when you got
into the porn industry?
Yeah, I was
couch-surfing for a little while
and one of my hosts asked
if I wouldn't mind filming
and editing some porn.
Bit of a weird ask, admittedly,
but it felt natural and I kept at it.
So here I am.
So what were you doing today?
Job-hunting.
I said that.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Yeah, I applied for a
coffee shop, candy shop,
clothing store.
I hate job-hunting.
I really do.
Why don't you keep doing porn?
Well, the porn market in Santa Fe
isn't exactly world-renowned,
besides, I'd like to keep
expanding my horizons anyway.
Who knows?
All else fails, we could
start the first porn empire
of Santa Fe.
Titty Tycoons of the Southwest.
Do you say you want in on the ground floor?
Yes.
Yeah.
Des and I wanna hit up
some hot springs pretty soon.
You know what's nice when
you move to a new place?
Having people you already
know, friends, it helps.
Maybe I can get you
a job at the coffee shop
I work at.
[Maggie] What's the pay?
Minimum.
Tips are good.
Maybe, lemme see if I can't
get into some film crew gigs
out here.
I heard they have a lot of that,
trying to stay behind the
camera if at all possible.
Nice.
You know, I've never really been passionate
about one thing enough to make it a career.
When I make coffee, I just
smile, and try to stay happy.
Maybe you should be a clown.
Yeah, that's actually a really good idea.
I mean, I don't know.
I just think I really need
to learn something new,
start fresh.
I don't know what, but yeah.
Can I ask you something
about Chiara and Desy?
Yeah, go ahead.
Should we be concerned?
I don't know if we should be concerned.
You may be more than me.
Look, look.
Desy is a spell.
She makes you feel
like you can do anything.
You're the only person in the room.
When she talks to you, she
just has that effect on you
and your girl, she has history with her.
That's not nothing.
[Jamey] Why aren't you concerned?
Well, it's nothing I haven't seen before.
Des and I have done this a hundred times.
It's not my first rodeo.
Tell me what's gonna happen.
Okay, well your girl, Chiara,
she's going to build Des up in her mind
if she hasn't already, to
this impossible standard.
And when Des inevitably falls short,
it's gonna come crashing down
and I'll be there like always.
I'll be there.
Yeah, maybe you will.
Maybe you won't.
I don't know you well
enough to tell you that just yet.
Fair enough.
Maggie, thank you for
sharing your lunch with me.
No problem, loser.
Don't mention it.
[Desy] Well, this is wonderful.
It's too bad Renne couldn't make it.
Yeah.
She's out of town all the time.
But I told her to let me know
next time she's available,
we can hang out again.
[Maggie] Okay.
Where's Jamey?
He's having some personal
time up on the mountain.
[Desy] I wanna go some time.
We should go together.
Yeah, the Aspens are really nice to watch
when they're changing.
We should all go soon, for sure.
[Desy] So how's your book coming?
It's good actually, I'm
working on a chapter right now
where the two main characters discover
a new type of sand.
Sand?
Yeah.
One character kind of runs
his hand through the sand
and he swears down to
the texture, and the smell,
and the energy of the sand is different.
So he wants to give it a new name.
And the other character disagrees
and basically ends up deciding
that the dude is losing his mind.
And it starts this whole thing.
Is the sand really different?
(Chiara coughing)
Sorry.
Yeah.
Sand's different everywhere, you know?
But the soil in Northern New Mexico
is actually really unique to the region.
It's not about sand anyway.
It's a metaphor for how new experiences
can be like a bridge
or a rift between people.
You know?
Like when two people
experience something new,
we expect that they're
seeing exactly the same thing.
But in reality, everything's subjective.
Cool.
Yeah.
How's your job-hunting going?
I gave up.
I figured if I couldn't find a job
then I would just help
Desy in the cam studio.
Darling, camming is a job.
I just, I have so many interests,
psychology, evolution, fashion, you know,
perhaps I'll become a sex therapist.
[Chiara] Actually, I read
this book by this woman,
Anais Nin.
Oh my God.
I love her.
Universal basic income
to close the wealth gap.
Eliminating the electoral-college.
So that one vote means one vote.
Maybe doing anything
at all to prevent the earth
from literally bursting into flames.
I mean, nobody's talking
about the head of the EPA
and that fucker needs
to be held accountable
for all the people he's hurt
and all the damage he's done.
[Desy] I love it when you get so intense.
[Chiara] Yeah.
Do you like wanna go into politics?
No, fuck that.
I mean, I don't know, if I did,
it would have to be
something like a documentary,
something long form, an
expose showing people issues
that they never knew about before.
So that magical, inexplicable love.
You felt that for more than
one person at the same time?
[Desy] Of course.
And I still do.
I give my love away.
It's brave.
It drives them crazy but I can't help it.
It's just who I am.
I think I feel the same way.
(ominous music)
I've been having really
strange dreams lately.
I wish I could remember my dreams.
How was girls' night?
It was good.
It was fun.
I felt like we all got to know each other
a little bit better.
Hey, I am sorry I didn't go
with you to the mountain.
I'm sorry I got upset, really.
You don't deserve that.
Was it nice?
Yeah, yeah.
Actually, it worked out.
I'm glad I went alone.
I had a lot of time for
some self-reflection.
[Chiara] What'd you do?
I just listened to music and I played,
I played like a kid.
It was great.
Made me realize that I wanna be lighter.
It made me realize I've been
watching you actively grow
for a while now, and
I've just wanted to stay
in the same place because I've been afraid
that you're growing away from me.
And what I wanna say is,
I'm ready to try something new
if you want to, I want to grow together.
Okay.
I know I love you, Jamey.
I do.
I love you.
[Jamey] I know, I know.
Okay.
And I don't wanna lose this.
[Jamey] Me neither.
At all.
But I have feelings for Desy.
I wanna be able to explore
that and know what that means.
Good, good.
I want you to be happy.
See, I do.
It's okay if you're attracted to Desy.
I get it.
Honestly, sometimes I'm
attracted to other people too.
Feels good to say it.
Yeah.
Who?
About who?
Oh, well, Maggie's cute.
Yeah.
Well, you do have a thing for lesbians.
So what do we do?
I don't know.
Maybe, maybe we just go for it.
I don't know.
How do you start something like this?
We'll figure it out.
I hate telling people that we're poly.
Soon as they find out they get all shifty,
and their eyes get wide,
and they think that we're either operating
some weird polygamy cult
out in the middle of the desert.
Or even worse that
we're potential prospects.
You know?
For once, just for once,
I would love it if somebody
could just leave it at,
oh, hey, that's nice,
anyway, how was your day?
Like it's not a big deal.
Just another person out
here living, trying to at least,
I mean, most of the poor souls
that even get into polyamory do it
because their last monogamous
relationship burned them.
And they think the key to happiness
is fucking whoever they
want whenever they want.
And it doesn't work that way.
If you think polyamory or solo-poly
or an open relationship or partner sharing
or swinging or relationship anarchy
or whatever the fuck you want to call it,
is gonna save you from yourself,
you have a hard lesson to learn.
You still have to practice
being a good person.
Life doesn't change when you're poly.
It's still hard.
It still sucks.
You're still a shitty shitty
person at a shitty shitty job.
And after everything is all said and done,
you're just a confused ape
who's never gonna understand it all.
Why can't we just fuck.
You're absolutely right, my dear.
It is best to keep things simple.
So, hey, what's the
deal with you and Chiara?
I really love you, my dear.
Yeah, cute.
Are you going to the party tonight?
Yeah, of course.
Hey, Des.
Tell me why you love me.
I'd be a fool not to love someone
who has loved me for myself so many times.
So that's why you love
me, 'cause I saved you.
Is that not a good enough reason?
You stood by me during my darkest hours
and you treated me right?
I followed you out here
'cause I wanted a change.
M, are you scared to disappoint me?
Of course, I'm scared
I'm gonna disappoint you.
I know that I'm gonna disappoint you.
I just don't know how.
You know, I also wanted a
change when we moved here.
I'll say it like this.
I don't care what happens to us
as long as we continue to love each other.
[Maggie] I promise.
(upbeat rock music)
In and out again
Heard it from a friend of a friend
It's been a while
since we've last talked
Been a while since we've last talked
I hope you're doing well
And ya, make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Back in back out again
I'm still hearing it
from friends of friends
It's been a while
since we've last talked
But I hear you all the time
I hope you're doing well
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
What are you doing?
[Renne] I'm trying to focus.
Me too.
[Renne] Are you enjoying the party?
Oh yeah.
Sweet baby, party's great, Re-Re.
But I'm afraid.
Tell me.
I always just complain to you.
It's true.
You complain all the time
and you do very little for me.
What can I do for you, Jay?
(Renne laughing)
You hate me.
No, no.
That's great.
Really.
Go for it.
I'll back you up.
Really?
Yeah.
Thanks Re-Re.
Yeah, how exciting.
So proud of you.
Appreciate you.
Oh, you are the best.
You're the best.
I gotta go.
All ready?
Okay.
I'll see you later.
(upbeat music)
(crowd cheering)
[Renne] Desire, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, pull yourself together.
Free yourself from
bullshit, here's to love.
Do you really need me to tell you
to kiss this beautiful woman.
(crowd cheering)
Like my costume?
Oh, this party is good.
We are vibing.
Let everyone see what you're about.
Who controls you?
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
Does it ever sound better
when you hear it more?
Free yourself from influencers.
Who controls your mouth hole?
Who controls your holes, bro?
Normalize fisting.
Pull yourself together.
Who controls you?
You don't have to love everyone you bone
and you don't have to
bone everyone you love.
We're here to live.
So fuck up.
Do it.
Do it already.
Do it now.
After this, we're all
going to the hot springs.
My hot springs, they're pristine.
Who controls you?
It's okay.
I'm a little nervous about like.
Me too, it's okay.
Yeah, I'm fine.
I know.
It's okay, I got you.
Thank you.
Yeah, like always.
I love you.
I love you too.
I'm freaking out.
What an amazing time.
Wow.
Oh, this is amazing.
I'm glad you guys could make it.
Well, thank you for having us.
By the way, Renne told us
that y'all had a proposal for us.
Well, we're here now.
Better not be weird.
It is a little weird.
- I mean, it's not weird.
- It's not weird.
It's not weird.
What I meant to say was, Renne, great show.
Thank you.
Always a pleasure.
And yeah, we wanted everyone to meet here
because Chiara and I
have been thinking a lot
about something very special.
And so we want to ask
you all if you would like.
Would you guys like to
have an orgy with us tonight?
Fuck, oh my God.
Holy fucking shit.
Okay.
I know how it seems, I know how it seems,
but I'm, I'm, I'm sorry if it's dramatic,
but we are being sincere.
We feel safe sharing an exciting level
of intimacy with you all.
There's no pressure.
We're just starting a conversation
we have never attempted before.
Please do not feel offended
by our recklessness.
I'm scared of not being enough.
And with this leap of faith,
I hope to expand my own horizons.
Our horizons.
Thank you for listening.
We just, you know, want
all of you guys to know,
how much we love you and
we appreciate each of you.
And we just think it'd be kind of fun
to screw tonight or
not tonight or whenever,
if you're into it.
Are you okay with this?
I-
I'll do it.
I got tested a couple months ago
and everything came out cool.
And I have some condoms
and lube, so Yeah, I'm into it.
Yeah.
Fuck it.
I'm down.
Everyone here's hot.
Wow, an orgy, surprise.
I'm actually gonna have
to sit this one out, loves.
But definitely enjoy yourselves
and I'll see you at home, darling.
I'll just make sure she's okay.
Desy, I hope we didn't offend you.
Oh, trust me, you didn't.
I've had much worse
requests from nastier people.
Yeah, I guess so.
As long as you're okay.
Yes, I'm fine.
I'm actually really proud of you two.
I wouldn't recommend
the surprise orgy method
in the future though.
Yeah, yeah.
Rookie move.
I'm sorry, really.
It's fine, I promise.
I'm really such a hypocrite.
I just got tired of sharing.
I know how you feel.
I know you mean well, darling,
but I don't think you do.
You're right.
You're right.
I do know that you're an intelligent,
confident, lovely person.
I do know you deserve all
the happiness in the world.
I can see why she likes you.
She likes you more.
Des-de-steal-your-girl-Mona.
Thank you for your kind words.
I don't wanna keep you from.
Yeah.
You know, a part of me was very excited,
but another part still has doubt.
And I don't know.
I could use your advice on it.
Listen, when theirs doubt, don't.
Would you like some stress-free
platonic company this evening?
Sure.
[Jamey] Great.
So-
(Desy and Jamey speaking faintly)
[Maggie] Is everything okay?
Yeah.
No.
Yeah, it's fine.
[Maggie] Cool, cool.
Hi.
(gentle music)
(upbeat rock music)
I was walking down the road
I was walking in a line
Every time I make it right
You find a way to whine
I don't wanna be fake with you
Or write about it my diary
You're fucking bitchy
Hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
I'm still walking down the road
I don't really know where I'm gonna go
I'm coming up with yes
And all you say is no
Why not
I don't wanna be fake with you
And write about it my diary
I'm fucking bitchy
I'm a bitch
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
Yeah, think about me
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
(upbeat rock music)
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you and you never say hi to me
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
Walking in your sleep
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me, me
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
(bell ringing)
(birds chirping)
(birds chirping)
(upbeat music)
(singing in foreign language)
(upbeat music)
(singing in foreign language)
(upbeat music)
(upbeat jazz music)
But you never made a name for me
I just want what I can see
You can tell your stories to me
I won't share it with the other three
The old fancy relationships
You think I'm there but I already quit
But you never made a name for me
The end is all I can see
One
One
One
How we were so long ago,
will you ever come down
Lonely on the telephone
with a ghost on the other end
Say how long it's been will I
see you again, my old friend
Do I want to
Man I need ya
Locked up for these lonely
nights with my bitter heart
Grows worse and if I'm back out again
How can we start over again
And do we want to
(bells ringing)
(gentle music)
[Chiara] Be small.
[Jamey] Well, like cozy, cozy house.
Big or small, it's gotta be cozy.
[Chiara] What about an Earthship,
would you do an Earthship?
[Jamey] I did.
[Chiara] That's a hard one.
[Jamey] I did tell my
surrogate grandfather
that I knew what it meant to love someone
for their entire life.
You got it?
Yeah.
Do I look sexy?
Yes, you do.
How sexy?
Very sexy.
Okay, yes.
That felt very sincere and beautiful.
And he was like-
Go slow, okay.
Stick your butt out.
Ready?
Okay, go.
(both laughing)
Yeah.
I don't know, I just, I guess
it just kind of surprised me
because I thought they
were gonna be together
for a really long time, you know?
Yeah.
All I know is we're gonna be together
for a really long time, I promise.
I will always love you.
I appreciate you.
(Chiara giggling)
(gentle music)
It's so pretty out here.
Jerk.
Oh, it is beautiful.
Come back.
You okay?
Yeah.
(cellphone ringing)
I'm just tired.
Me too.
I've been having these crazy dreams.
I'm awake running upstairs.
Can't tell if I'm dreaming or I'm awake
and I wake up and I'm dreaming.
Lord.
(cellphone ringing)
Who's blowing you up?
I don't know.
Tell me about your dream.
This one, I was running up these stairs
and each stair became a sponge.
I'm gonna, sorry babe.
[Jamey] Huh?
Hello?
[Desy] Hello.
Is this Chiara Collins?
Is anyone there?
Yeah.
Sorry, just a sec.
Is this a dream?
Desy?
[Desy] My sweet dear
Chiara, how are you, my dialing?
I'm good.
I'm good.
How are you?
[Desy] I'm absolutely splendid.
I can hardly believe I found you.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's been a really long time.
[Desy] I know.
Isn't it amazing?
We have so much to catch up on.
Let's get together immediately.
How does that sound?
Desy?
Are you in Santa Fe?
[Desy] I am darling.
I am.
Where are you?
[Desy] Oh, I just moved
into the funkiest looking place.
It's an old barn that's been
turned into apartments.
Isn't that just so charming?
Have you heard of the Art Barn?
[Desy And Jamey] Is everything alright?
How long do you think you'll be?
Maybe an hour.
I don't know.
I was thinking about inviting
her over for dinner tonight
and that way we could all hang out.
Great.
Maybe we can play a board game.
Yeah, maybe.
I will be back soon.
Okay.
Sweet Prince, every
second you are gone, I burn
and it is complete agony.
Aw.
Well, a good knight should enjoy such pain.
And so I shall.
All right, I'll be right back.
Okay.
Okay.
Love you.
Love you too.
(bell ringing)
(gentle music)
How are you?
I'm great.
Look at you.
You look amazing, Desy.
Oh my goodness.
I've been looking for you for months.
It's like you didn't even exist.
Yeah, I know.
I don't have social media anymore.
I just like, it stresses me out.
(Desy giggling)
(Jamey sighing)
(cellphone ringing)
Re-Re.
[Renne] Hello?
What's up?
[Renne] I'm having a party tonight.
I'm inviting you and Chiara.
Yay.
Parties.
I love parties.
Re-Re, I have to tell you something.
Do you remember when I told
you about Chiara's first crush?
[Renne] Yes.
It was a weird thing to tell me.
I tell you everything.
She's here.
Should I be concerned?
[Renne] Maybe.
Things have not been great lately.
[Renne] I know.
Des, this is amazing.
Honestly, I seriously never thought
I would see you ever again.
You still call me Des.
That brings me back so many memories.
Yeah.
What should I do?
[Renne] Invite them to the party.
Okay.
[Renne] Is she with her now?
Yep.
[Renne] When was the last
time you two were intimate?
Well, it's been a while.
[Renne] Jamey, you need
to have sex with your girlfriend.
I know.
I'm sorry.
I mean, I'm not sorry.
I mean, I'm sorry.
Ah.
You were in France, right?
That's where you went?
[Desy] Yeah.
Tell me.
Tell me about it.
Well, France, Italy, Spain, all around.
You know how I am?
And we actually settled over in Paris.
That's where my parents are now.
You know, doing their
whole nuclear research.
Yeah, right.
I remember.
Yeah.
You know, and, but I can
never get on board with it.
Is that why you came back?
I've been fortunate up until now.
Simply said, I was cut off.
Oh.
Yeah, I know.
But I think the curse of privilege
is trying to get adjusted to poverty.
Okay.
That sounded really bad.
I'm so sorry.
I'm not, I'm not really like that.
You know, I'll say it like this.
Paris is just simply too expensive,
and my partner and I
decided to just stay here
until we can get the money to move back.
You should come with us.
You'd really love Maggie.
You can come back to Paris.
(Chiara giggling)
I don't think my partner
would really like that very much.
You know, we actually
live right underneath you.
What?
Yeah.
I saw you moving in this morning.
I didn't know it was you, but
I knew it was you and it was.
Yeah.
That's a good thing I called you then.
Yeah.
Seriously.
This is amazing.
Oh, what's your partner's name?
Jamey.
Yeah, he's great.
[Jamey] What time's the party?
[Renne] 11-ish.
Sweet baby.
[Renne] In the meantime,
don't say anything dumb.
Say nothing.
Got it.
Bye.
[Renne] Bye.
(Jamey sighing)
We were gonna invite
you over tonight, actually.
He's gonna like force us to
play board games and stuff,
but we really, we don't have to.
We can just like hang out and have drinks
or we don't have to have drinks.
I don't know if you drink, but whatever.
We can just catch up.
And of course, you should bring Maggie.
I'm excited to meet her.
Well, I think that's a perfect idea.
Oh, and Maggie's pronouns are they/them.
And I look forward to meeting your Jamey.
[Chiara] Yeah.
Yeah.
What time should we come by?
Seven.
Seven?
[Chiara] Yeah.
Okay, cool.
Then at seven, we'll see you.
Okay, great.
Okay.
Welcome home.
I just realized something.
Since we live in the same place,
why don't you just come walk with me?
I was just gonna go run
some errands before we go back,
but I'll catch up with you tonight.
Okay.
There goes my Chiara time, ciao.
(gentle music)
(ominous music)
[Jamey] Hey.
Hey.
How was it?
It was good.
I invited her over for dinner tonight.
(upbeat music)
[Jamey] Spoon.
Well, I definitely lost.
So how'd you two meet?
Porn?
Really?
I was behind the cameras, mostly.
I've never met anyone
who's done porn before.
What's it like?
I think you know what it's like.
[Desy] Be nice.
Sorry.
Sorry.
Anyway, I was casting with this company
and one day this beautiful
creature walks into audition
and that's how we first met.
I was honestly so scared my first time.
And so Maggie came up to me
and said that I was the
most beautiful woman
that they had ever laid their eyes on.
I say that to all the actors.
I fell in love instantly.
So does sex ever feel
like not as special or like,
do you get tired of it ever?
Sorry if this is a weird question.
I'm just.
Is it okay if I smoke inside?
It's just a spliff.
Sure.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Let me get you a thing.
[Desy] Thank you.
[Chiara] Here you go.
Thank you, sweetie.
It gets pretty exhausting, you know?
Everyone expects me
to do it all and know it all.
But thanks to the
industry, I was able to know
where my boundaries are.
I also realized that when I'm on camera,
it's a performance.
Whenever I am really enjoying myself,
I don't care what I look like.
And the only time I really feel that way
is when I'm with someone that I love.
So there's a big difference
between loving someone
like just sex and being
in love with someone.
I'm not so convinced
there is a difference.
Just two points in the same
map, if that makes any sense.
In loveness is just infatuation.
It's an exaggeration.
Your brain being optimistic
about what could happen.
Love is just like anything else.
You practice at it
and you get better at it.
Maggie and I are poly,
so we get a lot of practice.
What's that?
[Maggie] Polyamory.
[Chiara] So you have
an open relationship?
Sort of.
Everybody has their own definitions.
Huh?
We've never really talked about that.
[Maggie] So how did you two meet?
In high school.
So sweet, high school sweethearts.
And I guess then monogamy
just kind of came naturally to us.
Well, that's good.
Finding something that
works for both of you.
I think that's beautiful.
How does it work?
Polyamory?
Well, every relationship is different
and the future is always uncertain.
So I feel like the key is just
making your own rules up as you go along.
Facing challenges as they come.
Communication is key,
but we all know that we're not meant
to just love one person forever.
It's a natural.
We're trained from a young age
to believe that we're incomplete
without another person.
And that's just not true.
I have never been in a relationship
where I didn't desire another person
other than my main partner.
And I honestly don't feel bad about it.
Yeah, it can get a
little dramatic at times.
You love it.
Don't you get jealous?
No, darling.
We create a greater love for one another.
Compersion, love for love.
You see, jealousy is choice.
Yeah.
Jealousy happens to
everybody, myself included.
But you deal with it and you get better.
Renne invited us to her party tonight
and you both are invited.
Yeah.
Actually.
Yes, totally.
You guys would love Renne.
And I think you guys are
pretty much neighbors now.
She lives upstairs too,
but I don't know if she's
right next to you guys or not.
You should come over 'cause-
Definitely, love to
meet all your friends.
Sounds rad.
Can't wait.
Great.
Cheers.
To love.
(gentle music)
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
In the dark of the night
You have come to life
Have you been all right
It was all in the mind
Yeah, yeah
(upbeat music)
You got I want
Are you feeling better?
Oh.
You seemed pretty excited last night.
Re-Re puts on such a good party
and that show at the end.
Just wish I hadn't drank so much.
I wish I didn't have to go to work.
Yeah, I had fun too.
I know you had fun.
[Chiara] What is that supposed to mean?
No, no, no.
I know you're excited that
Desdemona is back in town.
Why'd you say her name like that?
It's a funny name.
Desdemona.
Des-de-steal-your-man-Mona.
She still likes you.
No.
[Jamey] No?
That's just how she is.
She's a flirtatious person.
She's always been like
that, even when we were kids.
It's just who she is.
[Jamey] All I know is I feel like shit
and I'm never going out again.
You should drink some more water.
Thank you.
You know, you should
try to be their friend.
They're new in town and
it's hard to meet people here.
And I am happy that they're both here.
I like them.
I will, I'll make an effort.
Maggie though, she doesn't like me.
Maggie's pronoun is they.
They.
Right, right, right, right.
And maybe you just need to make an effort
to get to know them.
I'll do my best.
I will.
Thanks.
Last night you said something about like,
we've never talked about being open.
Did you mean anything by that?
No.
I was just making conversation.
Did you wanna talk about it?
No, no, no, no, no.
It just came to mind.
You know what we should do?
We should do something fun together.
You and me.
Remember when we used to take mushrooms
and go to the Aspens?
That was fun.
Yeah.
I miss that.
Let's do that.
Yeah, let's plan it out.
Good.
Okay.
(Jamey sighing)
I think it's time for work.
I need to go too.
I love you.
I love you.
Don't worry about this, I got it.
No, I got it.
You sure?
Yeah.
No good
(gentle music)
I got this.
You got that.
To your house
Familiar marks, the smoke smells
I go inside your house
(bells ringing)
(bell chiming)
(gentle music)
(door knocking)
Entrer.
Chiara.
Hi.
Did you enjoy the party last night?
[Chiara] Yeah, I did.
All according to plan.
What plan?
We'll be the best of friends, my dear.
You'll think of me and our potential.
As your desire increases,
you'll be unsure of what to tell him.
(gentle music)
And as you grow apart,
you'll refuse to say anything's wrong.
Be unsure of what to do or what to say.
And he'll blame himself.
Poor Jamey, he'll think it's all his fault.
He'll break up with you.
That's okay.
So you'll be set free.
[Chiara] That's not what I want.
[Desy] Do you really know
what you want, my dear?
(gentle music)
(door knocking)
[Maggie] Who is it?
It's Chiara.
Sorry if I'm bothering you.
Oh, hey.
What's up?
Hey, nothing.
Just, just gonna see if
you guys are free, I guess.
Could have just texted
since I was downstairs.
And you're upstairs.
Just-
[Maggie] Right on.
What a lovely surprise.
Come in, I'm as free as can be.
I thought you were
searching for a job today.
It can wait.
Yeah, I'm sure it can.
Anyway, we'll hang out later.
I'm gonna go job-hunting.
Good luck, my dear.
Best success.
Thank you.
Let me know if you find anything.
[Maggie] Will do.
Bye, nerds.
[Chiara] Good luck.
Chiara, come have a seat.
To what do I owe the
pleasure of this visit?
What?
No, nothing.
Just wasn't doing anything.
I thought I'd come say hi.
I'm glad you did.
Where is, remind me his name.
Jamey.
Jamey, that's right.
I'm sorry if I was rude last night.
I might have had a
little too much to drink.
I didn't think you were rude.
[Desy] Oh good.
I believe that you like him, that Jamey.
Do you maybe wanna go for a walk?
[Desy] Oh, absolutamente.
Let's go right away.
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
You know me
I'm your fucking best friend
You know me
We didn't get away with it
You know me
I'm your fucking nightmare
You know me
Your mom really likes me
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
You know me
I'm the one you fucking love
You know me
The one that doesn't give a fuck
You know me
I'm the one who took your pocket knife
You know me
I, I jumped in the pool
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya
So have you noticed?
Oh, darling, of course I did.
It looks lovely on you.
When you lost it I
wanted to find it so bad
that I dug up the entire
playground looking for it.
Oh, I remember, you're best work yet.
All the kids in the playground
were tripping over them.
It was amazing.
I was totally covered
in dirt by the end of it.
And you know what?
I didn't even find it in the playground.
It was in the parking lot.
I found it when my
parents came to pick me up.
I wonder how it got there.
(gentle music)
I don't think I know anybody
as long as I've known you.
Well, I love that.
Makes me a little more special, doesn't it?
(gentle music)
You said that you're in
Spain for a while, right?
Yeah.
So why do you ask?
I just wanna hear about it.
I've always wanted to go.
Oh, you would love it.
The Alhambra, it's like
nothing you've ever seen before.
It's just, you should go.
I mean, it's not too late.
Yeah, maybe, I don't know.
Jamey and I talk about
going to Mexico sometimes,
but, guess it just feels like
we settled in after college,
you know?
I don't know.
Well, I think Mexico's
an excellent choice.
And if you wanna go, you
can just go, just plan a trip,
and set up the budget,
and buy your plane ticket,
and off you go.
Oh, money's not the issue.
Is that so?
Money bags.
(Desy giggles)
(gentle music)
So something you don't know about me,
in college I studied creative writing
and I am writing a book.
Is it about me?
[Chiara] It's about
the Spanish colonization
of North America.
Do tell me more.
Well, two main characters
are these Spanish conquistadores
and they're scouts.
So they're kind of off on
this adventure by themselves.
And hopefully, it's exciting.
It's supposed to be an adventure novel.
But then underneath that, I've layered in
how they're struggling
to relate to each other
because they have
disagreements about the morals
and motives behind
colonization of this new place
and quote-unquote
discovering the people and stuff.
And I don't know, I make it sound boring.
Sweetheart, not a single thing
that comes out of your mouth is boring.
I love seeing you excited like that.
You know, whenever you finish,
I do hope that you keep
sweet little old me in mind
to be the first one to read your book.
Of course.
No, really, I'd love for you to read it.
I'd like to hear your opinion on it.
I can't wait.
I never knew you had such a passion
for history and writing.
Yeah, I didn't really,
until, it's recently sort of.
Do you and Jamey
ever visit the hot springs?
I mean, we talk about it all the time.
Just doesn't ever happen.
I'll say it like this.
You come up anytime,
just like you did today.
And we can go on any
adventure you like or just talk.
Thanks.
Yeah, that sounds nice.
So I spoke to your father briefly.
That's actually how I got your number.
I know, stalker.
But you know what I find funny?
An old man like him has a much
larger social media presence
than his beautiful young daughter.
So he told you then?
He did.
I'm sorry.
I didn't know how to bring it up.
It's okay.
It was a long time ago.
It's still weird to talk about it.
So I just don't bring it up usually.
I hope I'm not overstepping
my boundaries or anything.
But how did she pass?
I just, I, I wish I could have been there,
not a thousand miles away.
I just wish I could have supported you.
You didn't have to be alone.
I wasn't alone.
I feel like I've been
really shut in lately.
You know, it's just like me and Jamey
in our own little world all
the time, just in our routine.
And I really need more friends.
Really bad.
Well, it's a good thing
you're sweet, dear friend
has come into your life again.
I know it's been far too long, but.
Well, you have perfect timing.
I'm always here when you need me, right?
Yeah.
(gentle music)
I have so many stories to share with you
and it's just.
I wanna hear all about 'em.
(gentle music)
Was meant to fly
'Cause it is a long road
Oh, the one who's fair and kind
A clear sight, sighting
Oh
Wonder of my life
A gunshot.
She cries out to me.
I refuse.
Unless she stays.
So she stays.
Ah.
And I woke up so mad.
Isn't that so messed up?
Ah.
[Renne] When Chiara heard
about her mom, you were there.
The support you gave
her took a lot outta you.
Yeah.
[Renne] Perhaps you
grew emotionally dependent
on one another.
Dependent.
Isn't that what relationships
are all about though?
Two people as one.
[Renne] Codependence isn't healthy.
What about two trees growing as one,
two souls as one?
[Renne] You're not a tree.
Do you even know what your soul is?
(gentle music)
No.
I have no idea.
Re-Re, am I supposed
to just let Chiara fly away
without putting up a fight?
[Renne] Yeah, she's her own person.
Ah.
Well, okay.
[Renne] Do you think
you can control her, Jay?
No, of course not.
And I don't want to, but I
do want to do something.
I don't wanna lose my girlfriend.
[Renne] Chiara supports
your relationship with me.
And we also used to date in middle school.
Well, that's my point.
We used to date and then
you left me for a woman
and I'm supposed to accept that again.
Ugh.
[Renne] Yeah, Jamey you will.
Because you love Chiara and you love me.
You've only ever wanted
the best for anyone.
You're gonna take the high road
because you know it's what you want.
Ah.
(Jamey sighing)
I'm sorry.
I really am grateful.
Re-Re, I wish you were here
so you could crush me like you used to.
[Renne] What are you going to do?
I'll love Chiara no matter what.
[Renne] Good boy.
I want to do something special with C.
Can I buy some mushrooms off you?
[Renne] Sure.
Thanks, Re-Re.
[Renne] No problem.
I gotta go.
Talk to you later.
Bye-bye.
(Jamey sighing)
(water boiling)
(knife chopping)
(heart beating)
(knife chopping)
(heart beating)
[Chiara] Come back.
(Jamey sighing)
(upbeat music)
I've been wasting all my time
Trying to figure out
what's mine, oh, mine
What ya gonna do with all that money
Sleeping days are over honey
You broke it, but you won't buy it
I've got a fuse but you won't light it
I got a name but you won't write it
Yeah, yeah
C, I've been thinking about something
for a little while now.
And ever since Desy came to town,
I've been feeling far from you.
And it's hard for me to explain.
But.
C?
I'm sorry.
No, no, no, no.
Hey, I just, I just wanna know
if you're falling out of love with me.
No, no, that's not.
Then what's happening?
What's, what's happening?
I think we've become complacent.
Complacent?
I think the way that Desy
and Maggie live their lives
is interesting and that maybe we,
maybe we could learn some things from that.
Like what?
I don't know.
Isn't there anything
that you'd like to try?
Well, yeah, of course.
There's a lot of things
I can think of that,
I think I might wanna
try some someday, but-
Yeah.
I mean, you really wanna talk about it?
Yes.
That's exactly what I want.
I wanna talk about these things more.
Good.
Great.
What I hear you saying is that
you feel like there's more to
discover between us, together.
And that feelings that you
have for Desy or anyone,
they don't diminish the
feelings you have for me.
[Chiara] Yes.
[Jamey] Well then, let's work it out.
Let's talk to Desy.
Let's talk to Maggie, whoever.
Let's figure something out that honors us,
honors our feelings.
Okay.
Yeah, I would love that.
[Jamey] I would love that for us.
I'm so glad we're talking about it.
Thank you for saying something.
Thank you for being wise, sweet Prince.
I love you.
I love you.
(upbeat music)
I am enough, enough to say it all
And if you want
Oh, that was so yummy.
So what's up Jay?
Oh, I got the mushrooms from Renne.
And I think Sunday would be a great time
to go up to the mountain.
Yeah.
You still want to go, right?
Yeah, totally.
Absolutely.
That sounds great.
Let's do it.
Good.
It'll be good for us.
I'll get the gear.
Don't worry about a thing.
Okay.
Sounds good.
Hey, how was that,
how's that chapter coming?
The one you told me about the other day?
About the trees?
It's about leaves.
Leaves on the trees.
Right.
It's fine.
It's good.
I think I just have a couple more days
and then I'll be done with it.
Nice.
So I'm almost there.
Nice.
Yeah, it's good.
So I was thinking this week
I wanted to kind of do a girls' night.
Nice.
Maybe with, I was gonna
get Renne together with Desy
and Maggie and kind of just get,
I don't know, some girl time.
Yeah.
It's hard to be new to the city.
For sure, for sure.
So I thought connecting would be nice.
That's a great idea.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Well, tell me how that goes when it happens
and hey, please let me read that chapter
when you're done with it.
About the leaves.
Yeah?
Totally.
Good, good.
Nice.
(upbeat music)
I'm on top of my game
I've known since first grade
You know I'm insane
On top of my game
They all went the same
You know what they say
(upbeat music)
You know it, you got it
You've got it figured out
You know it, don't need them
You've got it figured out
(upbeat music)
[Chiara] I've been having strange dreams.
[Desy] Tell me.
I have this dream about Jamey and me
and we're on this boat in the ocean
and we're going, we're sailing to nowhere
and there's no one, there's nothing.
It's just sky, and water, and, sun.
And I jump off the boat into the ocean,
and I start to sink, and
I just let myself sink,
and I look up, and I can
see Jamey through the water,
and I'm expecting him to jump with me.
But he doesn't.
He just watches and then he keeps going.
Do you love him?
Are you happy?
I am.
Yeah.
I just, I wish I met him
later in life, you know?
Sometimes I think about if we break up
that no one I ever
meet or fall in love with
will know my mom.
I remember her, vaguely.
But I'm sorry it was just so long ago.
No, it's just a thought I have.
It's something to be sorry about.
I think you knew me when I was most pure.
[Desy] Are you not pure anymore?
Well, I just mean that
nobody really knows me
the way you do.
Well, I won't argue that you knew me
when I was much more innocent,
but I know what you mean.
I'm glad you're in my life, love.
I was thinking that you,
and Maggie, and Renne,
and I should get together
for a drink sometime.
[Desy] I love that.
M did promise me that
they wouldn't go job-hunting
on Sunday.
Aren't you supposed to be looking too?
Oh darling, I have a job.
I work from home.
Shall I show you?
[Jamey] You're not
coming to the mountain?
[Chiara] It was the only day
that we could all get together.
But we made plans first, right?
[Chiara] Oh no.
They were both being made at the same time.
Okay.
Okay.
But you know, we delay our plans a lot
because you have to
write and I have to work
and this was supposed to be special.
[Chiara] Jamey, don't make me feel bad
for doing something that I wanna do.
Make you feel bad.
I'm not a villain.
I wanted to take some
drugs, go to the mountain,
and feel close to you.
And I guess now I can only
do a couple of those things
because you are putting us second.
[Chiara] Okay, I'm putting myself first.
How about that?
Fair enough.
But you know, I put a lot of
time and energy into this trip.
I took the day off.
I bought the drugs, I put
this whole bag together
with a tent and sleeping
bag, and food, and drinks,
and condoms.
We were gonna have
sex on drugs in the woods.
That's a classic good time.
Okay.
Jamey, I appreciate the effort
you put into this special date, I do.
Hey, I appreciate it.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that it's not working out.
It's fine.
I wanna go on this date
with you, I do, I really do.
I think it's cool and it's sweet.
I just can't do it today.
Can I do both?
I mean, we can do both together.
I can't go to ladies' night.
I mean, do you wanna
come to ladies' night?
I mean sort of, but no, no, no, no.
I wanna spend time with you.
Okay?
- Okay, yeah.
- Please.
When can you save the bag
and we can go another night?
Please.
Can we just.
I am sorry I got upset.
I want you to do what you wanna do.
I want to go to the mountain.
Okay.
Great.
Yeah, you have a good time.
[Jamey] I'll be back tonight.
Okay.
Shit.
Jesus.
Maggie.
What's up, dork?
Hey, what's up with you?
Taking some lunch to
the big old cross on the hill,
you wanna come with?
Sure.
Are you on a break or something?
Is Desy around?
I have been job searching,
but I think I'm gonna
take a break from that.
And no Desy's back at the place.
Where's your girl?
I think she's back at the
house too, working on her book.
I was at the church earlier.
Have you ever been?
Nope.
I'd recommend it.
It's pretty cool.
Sometimes I like to go in
and just see if I feel something different.
Cool.
I'm gonna go eat.
Wanna come?
Yeah, of course.
Thanks.
Yeah.
(upbeat music)
I was back on the Austin side
I was feeling a little bit high
Want to know what it's like
Just to be high
Turn on the bright sunshine
Everything's going fine
Wanna know what it's like
Just to be really high
(upbeat rock music)
My parents were young, so they split up
when I was about two.
I was raised by my
grandparents, my mom's parents.
And I guess they were sort of conservative.
[Maggie] You guess.
They were, they were conservative.
They had really strict rules
and you did not mess with the rules.
Yeah, I more or less
ran away from my folks.
They weren't terrible people, at least,
they just lost all their passion young
and they couldn't be
bothered to care anymore.
So by the time I was 18, I worked, I saved,
and I decided to leave the country.
[Jamey] Wow.
Is that when you got
into the porn industry?
Yeah, I was
couch-surfing for a little while
and one of my hosts asked
if I wouldn't mind filming
and editing some porn.
Bit of a weird ask, admittedly,
but it felt natural and I kept at it.
So here I am.
So what were you doing today?
Job-hunting.
I said that.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Yeah, I applied for a
coffee shop, candy shop,
clothing store.
I hate job-hunting.
I really do.
Why don't you keep doing porn?
Well, the porn market in Santa Fe
isn't exactly world-renowned,
besides, I'd like to keep
expanding my horizons anyway.
Who knows?
All else fails, we could
start the first porn empire
of Santa Fe.
Titty Tycoons of the Southwest.
Do you say you want in on the ground floor?
Yes.
Yeah.
Des and I wanna hit up
some hot springs pretty soon.
You know what's nice when
you move to a new place?
Having people you already
know, friends, it helps.
Maybe I can get you
a job at the coffee shop
I work at.
[Maggie] What's the pay?
Minimum.
Tips are good.
Maybe, lemme see if I can't
get into some film crew gigs
out here.
I heard they have a lot of that,
trying to stay behind the
camera if at all possible.
Nice.
You know, I've never really been passionate
about one thing enough to make it a career.
When I make coffee, I just
smile, and try to stay happy.
Maybe you should be a clown.
Yeah, that's actually a really good idea.
I mean, I don't know.
I just think I really need
to learn something new,
start fresh.
I don't know what, but yeah.
Can I ask you something
about Chiara and Desy?
Yeah, go ahead.
Should we be concerned?
I don't know if we should be concerned.
You may be more than me.
Look, look.
Desy is a spell.
She makes you feel
like you can do anything.
You're the only person in the room.
When she talks to you, she
just has that effect on you
and your girl, she has history with her.
That's not nothing.
[Jamey] Why aren't you concerned?
Well, it's nothing I haven't seen before.
Des and I have done this a hundred times.
It's not my first rodeo.
Tell me what's gonna happen.
Okay, well your girl, Chiara,
she's going to build Des up in her mind
if she hasn't already, to
this impossible standard.
And when Des inevitably falls short,
it's gonna come crashing down
and I'll be there like always.
I'll be there.
Yeah, maybe you will.
Maybe you won't.
I don't know you well
enough to tell you that just yet.
Fair enough.
Maggie, thank you for
sharing your lunch with me.
No problem, loser.
Don't mention it.
[Desy] Well, this is wonderful.
It's too bad Renne couldn't make it.
Yeah.
She's out of town all the time.
But I told her to let me know
next time she's available,
we can hang out again.
[Maggie] Okay.
Where's Jamey?
He's having some personal
time up on the mountain.
[Desy] I wanna go some time.
We should go together.
Yeah, the Aspens are really nice to watch
when they're changing.
We should all go soon, for sure.
[Desy] So how's your book coming?
It's good actually, I'm
working on a chapter right now
where the two main characters discover
a new type of sand.
Sand?
Yeah.
One character kind of runs
his hand through the sand
and he swears down to
the texture, and the smell,
and the energy of the sand is different.
So he wants to give it a new name.
And the other character disagrees
and basically ends up deciding
that the dude is losing his mind.
And it starts this whole thing.
Is the sand really different?
(Chiara coughing)
Sorry.
Yeah.
Sand's different everywhere, you know?
But the soil in Northern New Mexico
is actually really unique to the region.
It's not about sand anyway.
It's a metaphor for how new experiences
can be like a bridge
or a rift between people.
You know?
Like when two people
experience something new,
we expect that they're
seeing exactly the same thing.
But in reality, everything's subjective.
Cool.
Yeah.
How's your job-hunting going?
I gave up.
I figured if I couldn't find a job
then I would just help
Desy in the cam studio.
Darling, camming is a job.
I just, I have so many interests,
psychology, evolution, fashion, you know,
perhaps I'll become a sex therapist.
[Chiara] Actually, I read
this book by this woman,
Anais Nin.
Oh my God.
I love her.
Universal basic income
to close the wealth gap.
Eliminating the electoral-college.
So that one vote means one vote.
Maybe doing anything
at all to prevent the earth
from literally bursting into flames.
I mean, nobody's talking
about the head of the EPA
and that fucker needs
to be held accountable
for all the people he's hurt
and all the damage he's done.
[Desy] I love it when you get so intense.
[Chiara] Yeah.
Do you like wanna go into politics?
No, fuck that.
I mean, I don't know, if I did,
it would have to be
something like a documentary,
something long form, an
expose showing people issues
that they never knew about before.
So that magical, inexplicable love.
You felt that for more than
one person at the same time?
[Desy] Of course.
And I still do.
I give my love away.
It's brave.
It drives them crazy but I can't help it.
It's just who I am.
I think I feel the same way.
(ominous music)
I've been having really
strange dreams lately.
I wish I could remember my dreams.
How was girls' night?
It was good.
It was fun.
I felt like we all got to know each other
a little bit better.
Hey, I am sorry I didn't go
with you to the mountain.
I'm sorry I got upset, really.
You don't deserve that.
Was it nice?
Yeah, yeah.
Actually, it worked out.
I'm glad I went alone.
I had a lot of time for
some self-reflection.
[Chiara] What'd you do?
I just listened to music and I played,
I played like a kid.
It was great.
Made me realize that I wanna be lighter.
It made me realize I've been
watching you actively grow
for a while now, and
I've just wanted to stay
in the same place because I've been afraid
that you're growing away from me.
And what I wanna say is,
I'm ready to try something new
if you want to, I want to grow together.
Okay.
I know I love you, Jamey.
I do.
I love you.
[Jamey] I know, I know.
Okay.
And I don't wanna lose this.
[Jamey] Me neither.
At all.
But I have feelings for Desy.
I wanna be able to explore
that and know what that means.
Good, good.
I want you to be happy.
See, I do.
It's okay if you're attracted to Desy.
I get it.
Honestly, sometimes I'm
attracted to other people too.
Feels good to say it.
Yeah.
Who?
About who?
Oh, well, Maggie's cute.
Yeah.
Well, you do have a thing for lesbians.
So what do we do?
I don't know.
Maybe, maybe we just go for it.
I don't know.
How do you start something like this?
We'll figure it out.
I hate telling people that we're poly.
Soon as they find out they get all shifty,
and their eyes get wide,
and they think that we're either operating
some weird polygamy cult
out in the middle of the desert.
Or even worse that
we're potential prospects.
You know?
For once, just for once,
I would love it if somebody
could just leave it at,
oh, hey, that's nice,
anyway, how was your day?
Like it's not a big deal.
Just another person out
here living, trying to at least,
I mean, most of the poor souls
that even get into polyamory do it
because their last monogamous
relationship burned them.
And they think the key to happiness
is fucking whoever they
want whenever they want.
And it doesn't work that way.
If you think polyamory or solo-poly
or an open relationship or partner sharing
or swinging or relationship anarchy
or whatever the fuck you want to call it,
is gonna save you from yourself,
you have a hard lesson to learn.
You still have to practice
being a good person.
Life doesn't change when you're poly.
It's still hard.
It still sucks.
You're still a shitty shitty
person at a shitty shitty job.
And after everything is all said and done,
you're just a confused ape
who's never gonna understand it all.
Why can't we just fuck.
You're absolutely right, my dear.
It is best to keep things simple.
So, hey, what's the
deal with you and Chiara?
I really love you, my dear.
Yeah, cute.
Are you going to the party tonight?
Yeah, of course.
Hey, Des.
Tell me why you love me.
I'd be a fool not to love someone
who has loved me for myself so many times.
So that's why you love
me, 'cause I saved you.
Is that not a good enough reason?
You stood by me during my darkest hours
and you treated me right?
I followed you out here
'cause I wanted a change.
M, are you scared to disappoint me?
Of course, I'm scared
I'm gonna disappoint you.
I know that I'm gonna disappoint you.
I just don't know how.
You know, I also wanted a
change when we moved here.
I'll say it like this.
I don't care what happens to us
as long as we continue to love each other.
[Maggie] I promise.
(upbeat rock music)
In and out again
Heard it from a friend of a friend
It's been a while
since we've last talked
Been a while since we've last talked
I hope you're doing well
And ya, make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Back in back out again
I'm still hearing it
from friends of friends
It's been a while
since we've last talked
But I hear you all the time
I hope you're doing well
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
Make me, make me, make me come
Make me, make me, make me come back
Make me, make me, make me come to you
What are you doing?
[Renne] I'm trying to focus.
Me too.
[Renne] Are you enjoying the party?
Oh yeah.
Sweet baby, party's great, Re-Re.
But I'm afraid.
Tell me.
I always just complain to you.
It's true.
You complain all the time
and you do very little for me.
What can I do for you, Jay?
(Renne laughing)
You hate me.
No, no.
That's great.
Really.
Go for it.
I'll back you up.
Really?
Yeah.
Thanks Re-Re.
Yeah, how exciting.
So proud of you.
Appreciate you.
Oh, you are the best.
You're the best.
I gotta go.
All ready?
Okay.
I'll see you later.
(upbeat music)
(crowd cheering)
[Renne] Desire, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, desire.
Doubt, pull yourself together.
Free yourself from
bullshit, here's to love.
Do you really need me to tell you
to kiss this beautiful woman.
(crowd cheering)
Like my costume?
Oh, this party is good.
We are vibing.
Let everyone see what you're about.
Who controls you?
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
Does it ever sound better
when you hear it more?
Free yourself from influencers.
Who controls your mouth hole?
Who controls your holes, bro?
Normalize fisting.
Pull yourself together.
Who controls you?
You don't have to love everyone you bone
and you don't have to
bone everyone you love.
We're here to live.
So fuck up.
Do it.
Do it already.
Do it now.
After this, we're all
going to the hot springs.
My hot springs, they're pristine.
Who controls you?
It's okay.
I'm a little nervous about like.
Me too, it's okay.
Yeah, I'm fine.
I know.
It's okay, I got you.
Thank you.
Yeah, like always.
I love you.
I love you too.
I'm freaking out.
What an amazing time.
Wow.
Oh, this is amazing.
I'm glad you guys could make it.
Well, thank you for having us.
By the way, Renne told us
that y'all had a proposal for us.
Well, we're here now.
Better not be weird.
It is a little weird.
- I mean, it's not weird.
- It's not weird.
It's not weird.
What I meant to say was, Renne, great show.
Thank you.
Always a pleasure.
And yeah, we wanted everyone to meet here
because Chiara and I
have been thinking a lot
about something very special.
And so we want to ask
you all if you would like.
Would you guys like to
have an orgy with us tonight?
Fuck, oh my God.
Holy fucking shit.
Okay.
I know how it seems, I know how it seems,
but I'm, I'm, I'm sorry if it's dramatic,
but we are being sincere.
We feel safe sharing an exciting level
of intimacy with you all.
There's no pressure.
We're just starting a conversation
we have never attempted before.
Please do not feel offended
by our recklessness.
I'm scared of not being enough.
And with this leap of faith,
I hope to expand my own horizons.
Our horizons.
Thank you for listening.
We just, you know, want
all of you guys to know,
how much we love you and
we appreciate each of you.
And we just think it'd be kind of fun
to screw tonight or
not tonight or whenever,
if you're into it.
Are you okay with this?
I-
I'll do it.
I got tested a couple months ago
and everything came out cool.
And I have some condoms
and lube, so Yeah, I'm into it.
Yeah.
Fuck it.
I'm down.
Everyone here's hot.
Wow, an orgy, surprise.
I'm actually gonna have
to sit this one out, loves.
But definitely enjoy yourselves
and I'll see you at home, darling.
I'll just make sure she's okay.
Desy, I hope we didn't offend you.
Oh, trust me, you didn't.
I've had much worse
requests from nastier people.
Yeah, I guess so.
As long as you're okay.
Yes, I'm fine.
I'm actually really proud of you two.
I wouldn't recommend
the surprise orgy method
in the future though.
Yeah, yeah.
Rookie move.
I'm sorry, really.
It's fine, I promise.
I'm really such a hypocrite.
I just got tired of sharing.
I know how you feel.
I know you mean well, darling,
but I don't think you do.
You're right.
You're right.
I do know that you're an intelligent,
confident, lovely person.
I do know you deserve all
the happiness in the world.
I can see why she likes you.
She likes you more.
Des-de-steal-your-girl-Mona.
Thank you for your kind words.
I don't wanna keep you from.
Yeah.
You know, a part of me was very excited,
but another part still has doubt.
And I don't know.
I could use your advice on it.
Listen, when theirs doubt, don't.
Would you like some stress-free
platonic company this evening?
Sure.
[Jamey] Great.
So-
(Desy and Jamey speaking faintly)
[Maggie] Is everything okay?
Yeah.
No.
Yeah, it's fine.
[Maggie] Cool, cool.
Hi.
(gentle music)
(upbeat rock music)
I was walking down the road
I was walking in a line
Every time I make it right
You find a way to whine
I don't wanna be fake with you
Or write about it my diary
You're fucking bitchy
Hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
I'm still walking down the road
I don't really know where I'm gonna go
I'm coming up with yes
And all you say is no
Why not
I don't wanna be fake with you
And write about it my diary
I'm fucking bitchy
I'm a bitch
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
Yeah, think about me
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
(upbeat rock music)
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you but you didn't say hi to me
I saw you and you never say hi to me
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me
Walking in your sleep
I hope you think about it
Hope you think about me
When I'm walking in your sleep
Think about it
Think about me, me
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
Woo, woo, woo, woo, woo
(bell ringing)
(birds chirping)
(birds chirping)
(upbeat music)
(singing in foreign language)
(upbeat music)
(singing in foreign language)
(upbeat music)
(upbeat jazz music)
But you never made a name for me
I just want what I can see
You can tell your stories to me
I won't share it with the other three
The old fancy relationships
You think I'm there but I already quit
But you never made a name for me
The end is all I can see
One
One
One
