Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua (2025) Movie Script

[dramatic music playing]
[Ice T] Let's just get it out there.
Because we're all asking the same question
about Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
[Ice T] What the hell
is this guy thinking?
Well, hang on for a second.
Which guy are you talking about?
-Who's the one taking the bigger risk?
-[car engine rumbling]
[Ice T] Is it the disruptive superstar
Yes, sir!
[Ice T] who started boxing
just five years ago?
[commentator shouting indistinctly]
[Ice T] And is challenging
a two-time heavyweight champ?
Or is it the Olympic gold medalist
who's earned his rep
as one of the best in his era
[announcer] The new
world heavyweight champion.
[Ice T] and agreed to take on
a former YouTuber?
You could call Jake Paul audacious,
call him ballsy, call him nuts,
but he's got everything to gain
by fighting the biggest,
baddest man he's ever faced.
-[music concludes]
-Why the fuck not? [laughs]
-Like, anyone, anytime, anyplace.
-[dramatic music continues]
And I'm gonna win. That's the thing.
Like, I'm going to win.
[Ice T] Anthony Joshua is taller,
heavier, and way more experienced.
But he's laying it all
on the line too, isn't he?
With everything to lose, his past,
present, and maybe even his future.
[Anthony] I'm gonna inflict a lot of pain.
I'm training to win by any means.
I'm training to hurt him.
[Ice T] Is Jake crazy
-or is he the man built for this moment?
-[indistinct chatter]
[Ice T]
Is AJ loading up for knockout number 26,
or is he at risk of seriously
underestimating his opponent?
Work! There you go!
[Ice T] Every question will be answered
tonight as the world watches
live.
[music concludes]
[intense music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[Kate] We are live around the world
in more than 190 countries
as Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions
in association with Matchroom Boxing
proudly present Judgment Day.
Coming to you from Miami, Florida,
we're at Kaseya Center tonight
where the card is stacked
with four fascinating fights
headlined by an entirely unexpected one
between disruptor Jake Paul
and two-time heavyweight
world champ Anthony Joshua.
Before that, our co-main event features
two women prepared to battle
under what are traditionally considered
men's championship rules.
Alycia Baumgardner defends
her unified super featherweight titles
against French-Canadian challenger
Leila Beaudoin
over 12 three-minute rounds.
We've also got two
of the most influential fighters
in MMA history on the card for you.
They're gonna meet for the first time
in the boxing ring
when Anderson Silva faces Tyron Woodley.
And 2024 U.S. Olympian Jahmal Harvey
takes on undefeated Colombian
Kevin Cervantes in a clash
of young super featherweight.
So, settle in everybody,
we're gonna steer you through what is sure
to be a fantastic night of fights
-live worldwide right here on Netflix.
-[music concludes]
Very warm welcome everybody
inside Miami's Kaseya Center.
This is the home of the Heat,
and we've got some fire for you tonight.
My name's Kate Scott.
-I am surrounded by boxing royalty.
-[judges chuckle]
Three Hall of Famers with me tonight.
The former Super Middleweight
and light heavyweight title holder,
Laila Ali.
The former Super Middleweight
and light heavyweight champion,
Olympic gold medalist, Andre Ward.
And the former undisputed
heavyweight champion
-Yeah.
-of the world, Lennox Lewis.
Good to see you all,
good to be here with you all here tonight.
Let's talk about this main event.
Obviously, this is a fight that I think
none of us expected to ever be hosting,
but here we are,
it's happening, it's real, everybody.
Initial reaction, what was it Laila?
Absolutely crazy, but I do feel
it is a defining moment
for both of these guys.
I liked it, Jake has been asking
for this fight, and tonight, he got it.
-[laughs]
-Me, I said,
"What, for real, is it for real?"
I didn't know if it was for real or not,
I didn't believe it.
For real, this is a very bad idea for you,
Jake, or what kind of for real?
For real, it's a bad idea for Jake,
because he's really bitten off
a big lump right now,
and his name's Ant-- Anthony Joshua.
It's-- I mean, it's a real fight, right?
ten-ounce gloves, is this reckless
of Jake, do you think?
Yeah, it's the lane that he's created.
This is what he is,
and this is what he does.
[upbeat music playing]
I don't feel he has any business
being in the ring
with Anthony Joshua, okay?
I mean, I like what Jake's doing.
I respect that he's been working so hard.
I see a lot of improvement,
and I do consider him a real boxer
even though some people don't, I do.
But honey, not with Anthony Joshua,
come on now.
[laughs] There's levels, right?
Uh, well, Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul,
we do know are two very different fighters
with very different resumes.
We can show you just how different.
Take a look at this.
Anthony Joshua has over a decade
more experience in the game.
Uh, he's been in 13 title fights,
Jake meanwhile has been in zero.
Anthony Joshua's fought
some of the best heavyweights of his era,
and every champion or former champion
that Joshua fought was in his prime
or very close to it.
That is not at all the case for Jake Paul,
who faced Mike Tyson
when he was 58 years old,
and then Chvez Jr.
when he was a good decade past his best.
That gulf in class
and experience in size as well,
let's not even talk about that,
but what that means is
-Anthony Joshua has to dominate, Lennox.
-He has to dominate.
He has to go in there
and basically do what he wants to do
because he's the expert in there.
He's the-- He's the pride of the bunch.
So, when he goes in there,
he can basically take his time
and knock him out when he wants to
because that's what's--
-That's what's gonna happen.
-Regardless of the size of the paycheck,
it still takes a lot of balls
to get into the ring with a heavyweight
when you're not a heavyweight.
How much do you respect Jake Paul
for taking the fight?
I respect him for taking the fight.
And, you know, this is a fight
where a lot of people,
he's built a lot of his reputation
on people wanting to see him lose.
And that's why they're gonna
tune in tonight because they think,
"Okay, tonight's the night."
He's facing a real guy,
former heavyweight champion.
And I'm excited to see
how how it turns out
because Anthony Joshua has a lot
of pressure on him tonight too.
It feels like the narrative
around Jake Paul as well has been,
we wanna see him take on a real challenge.
Now, he takes on a real challenge
and we're all like,
"Oh, Lord, are you sure?"
-Is this--
-That's too much.
Yeah. [laughs]
Weight class is for a reason, right?
And boxing is a very dangerous sport.
But I think
that he calls himself delusional, right?
Optimistic He made up a whole new word
for himself, but he's just crazy.
That's what it is, just plain old crazy.
But yeah, I think that Anthony Joshua
needs to come in there, establish his jab,
just start landing that right hand
because us in the boxing community,
we're just kind of like, "Um, you have
no business not knocking Jake Paul out."
Right. Uh, well, we four,
we're all gonna be with you
all night long,
but so too is our good friend,
Sibley Scoles. Let's go find out
where she is and what she expects
to have for us tonight. Sibley.
[chuckles] Thanks so much, Kate.
The energy is building up here
inside Kaseya Center.
There's so much going on,
I almost fell over.
Listen, the week has been action-packed
from the press conference,
the open workouts, and, of course,
all that talk at face-off.
But now, as you'll hear
throughout the broadcast,
this is Judgment Day,
and I will be ringside
talking to all the celebs
in attendance, getting interviews,
their predictions on what's gonna go
down on that main card.
This is Jake versus Joshua,
a lot on the line.
-Ariel, how insane is this?
-Well, Sibley, as you know,
it was six years ago
in this very city that a young man
named Jake Paul made his pro boxing debut
against a fellow YouTuber named AnEsonGib.
At that exact moment in time,
Anthony Joshua was the unified
heavyweight champion of the world.
Imagine telling someone back then
that these two would meet
in a pro heavyweight bout
just a few years later.
Actually, imagine telling someone
about this six months ago.
That's how improbable all of this is.
But don't you dare tell Jake Paul
that a win tonight is impossible.
He is steadfast in his belief
that he is going to pull off
what he describes as the greatest upset
in sports history.
Well, we are just a few hours away now
from finding out
if that delusional optimism is going
to be turned into a reality
for the man they call
"the problem child." Kate.
[Kate] Yep, thank you, Ariel.
We are just getting started
for you here in Miami.
We got so much more still to come for you.
The countdown is now underway
to the first of our four fights tonight.
Stay with us, everybody.
We are live on Netflix.
[dramatic music playing]
[upbeat music playing]
["Stranger Things Main Theme" playing]
[Kate] Get ready
for the final battle to begin.
Stranger Things 5 Volume 2 premieres
on Christmas Day at 8:00 p.m. Eastern
with the final episode premiering
on New Year's Eve only on Netflix.
I'm Kate Scott, Laila Ali,
Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis.
It is fair to say
that none of us saw this fight coming
until it was actually signed,
it was actually announced.
Uh, and a look at the timeline
of the two fighters' careers
will tell you just why
we didn't expect this fight to happen.
Anthony Joshua, you'll remember,
is an Olympic gold medalist.
Won the London Games, that was in 2012.
One year later, 16-year-old Jake Paul
began making Vine videos
with his brother Logan,
hitting two billion views.
That same year AJ
began his professional boxing career.
By 2016, Jake was a Disney TV star.
By 2017, AJ was the unified
heavyweight champion of the world.
On his 20th birthday,
Jake Paul founded a media company
with a million dollars in funding.
Not bad. Shortly after his 30th,
Anthony Joshua regained
the heavyweight titles
that he had lost earlier in 2019.
He became a two-time
heavyweight champion of the world.
Jake Paul's first pro fight came in 2020.
That was right here in Miami.
In 2021, Joshua relinquished his titles
to pound-for-pound number one,
Oleksandr Usyk, and in that same year,
Jake co-founded Most Valuable Promotions,
signaling his real commitment
to this sport of boxing,
and that all has led us to tonight
and one of the most unexpected matchups
that the sport has ever seen.
What that means is if you are Jake Paul,
you better have a good game plan
coming into this one.
-Lennox, what does that need to look like?
-Well, he needs to move.
That's for one thing.
If he stays in one spot,
he's gonna get hurt. So, I believe
he's gonna be moving around
until the appointed time
where Anthony Joshua commits to a punch.
And then Jake is gonna throw some punches.
But I don't see him
really hurting Anthony Joshua.
So, we're gonna have to see.
We've seen him hurt
other people, though, right?
We've seen him hurt
Nate Robinson, Tyron Woodley.
He has got some some punch power there.
He's got some heavy hands.
-How does he land them?
-With the right hand,
not the jab, not the left hook.
And Lennox is right.
Um, Jake Paul has to move early.
He has to stay away from the bigger guy.
We looked at that ring,
we saw it's a big ring.
It's not a big ring
once Anthony Joshua gets in there.
It's gonna shrink.
So, he's gonna have to be smart,
but then he can look
for a right hand here and there
because Joshua does make mistakes,
and he can be hurt.
One thing we should remember
in the context of this fight is
that Jake-- Jake Paul, sorry,
was originally preparing
for a 135 pounder, Gervonta Davis.
Now, he's fighting Anthony Joshua,
who's 245 pounds almost.
How how do you handle that switch?
I mean, that's part of what you do.
He's he's living his life as a fighter.
He's been training for a long time.
He's been sparring with heavyweights.
He's been preparing himself,
he feels, mentally.
He feels Anthony Joshua
doesn't even have that good of skills.
He says he's very basic, right?
So, Jake says that he's faster.
Jake says he can knock him out
with his right hand.
And he's told us what his game plan is,
but I don't think it's really smart
to tell what your real game plan is.
But like we've all said, he's got to keep
moving and just not get knocked out.
Yeah, basic feels a little harsh to me.
Experience talking on his part.
Showing his hands.
Wait till you get in there.
Jake Paul's toughest test
is yet to come.
It's coming up very soon for you tonight.
Our first fight is just minutes away.
Now, we're going to bring you more live
from Miami after this break.
Stay with us, everybody.
[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
[upbeat music playing]
[Kate] We're at Kaseya Center in Miami,
just across the causeway from South Beach.
We are looking forward
to bringing you the fights
from in here this evening
as we get set for bout number one.
Looks pretty, doesn't it?
Miami, lovely in the evening.
We do have a big team for all the coverage
of these upcoming fights.
And guess what, everybody?
A familiar voice is back
to bring you all of tonight's action.
Let's go ringside
and welcome in Mauro Ranallo.
-Good to see you, Mauro.
-I really appreciate it, Kate.
Good to see you, and thank you very much.
And happy holidays to everyone
who is watching this rather unique event.
I am happy to be working
with expert analyst Crystina Poncher
and former cruiserweight
and heavyweight champion David Haye.
Yes, it's really happening.
Jake Paul continues
to put the real in surreal.
He didn't come
through the front door of boxing.
He built his own entrance.
And love him or loathe him, Crystina,
you've got to respect his work ethic
and commitment to the sport.
You're right.
He didn't come in the traditional way,
but he's taking boxing very seriously.
He had a very serious training camp.
He hired some
very talented sparring partners,
put a lot into his preparation
and his recovery.
But look, he didn't come up
the traditional way like you did
and many of the others watching.
-But look, it's him being a disruptor.
-Yep.
It's his delusional optimism
that he always talks about
that has got him to this point
on this global stage, on Netflix,
in the main event,
in only his 14th professional fight.
David, for your compatriot Joshua,
it's not about proving greatness,
-it's about protecting it.
-It really is.
It's a unique situation
he finds himself in
where the boxing fraternity
are expecting and demanding
a first or second-round knockout.
Anything other than that,
people are gonna start
really asking questions
about Anthony Joshua.
But that pressure brings
a different type of energy.
When you try to knock somebody out,
I know this, it's very difficult.
You need to let it flow.
And is Anthony Joshua going
to flow or is he going
to really seam across the ring
and let those punches fly?
It's going to be very interesting.
AJ told us
that it would be a huge disappointment
if he didn't get the first-round KO.
While the Duke of Disruption,
he promises a knockout
by exploiting one of Joshua's
biggest vulnerabilities, punch resistance.
We'll have much more coming up
on the main event,
but right now we focus our attention
on the 130-pound division.
American Olympian Jahmal Harvey
takes on combat-ready
Colombian Kevin Cervantes.
Cervantes is two inches taller,
but they have an identical wingspan
of 67 inches.
Somebody's O has got to go.
As we bring in rules expert
and unofficial scorer, Sean Wheelock.
[Sean] We are under the unified rules
of boxing as being administered
this evening by the Florida Commission.
This bout is scheduled for six rounds.
There is no three knockdown rule.
A fighter cannot be saved
by the bell in any round.
If an accidental foul ends the fight,
four rounds must be completed
to consider it official.
[Crystina]
There's a look at Kevin Cervantes.
What a big opportunity
for him tonight in his U.S. debut.
He began boxing at the age of 11,
about 87 amateur fights.
But again, a huge stage
for his first fight here
in the States and a tall task
in his opponent tonight, Jahmal Harvey.
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,
and welcome to Miami, Florida.
We welcome all of you joining us here live
from the Kaseya Center,
and we welcome all of you tuning in
around the world live on Netflix.
Boxing is back here in South Florida.
Boxing is back on Netflix.
MVP is back on Netflix.
And welcome to the biggest fight
of the year,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua!
We begin our main card first
in the super featherweight division.
Introducing first to the ring,
making his way down the ramp,
please welcome Kevin Cervantes!
[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] Yes, the 25-year-old
Kevin Cervantes, 5-0 with five KOs.
No fight has gone past the third round.
He had an 87-fight amateur background
and was called up
to the Colombian Youth National Team.
He's a relentless brawler
with high-pressure style reminiscent
of his idol Roberto Durn.
He is making his American debut.
Proud to represent Colombia,
where he began boxing at the age of 11
in a crumbling gym
with broken equipment.
But here he is, on the biggest of stages,
under the brightest of lights,
ready to kick off the main card
of Judgment Day on Netflix.
[upbeat cumbia music playing]
[Big Mo] And now, his opponent,
making his way to the ring,
please welcome Jahmal Harvey!
[crowd cheering]
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] Twenty-three years of age,
trying to avoid the sophomore slump
with his second professional fight,
made an instant impact
by scoring a knockout
in his professional debut.
You mentioned his Olympic pedigree,
represented the American team in 2024.
Harvey described
his fighting style as aggressive
but straightforward,
revolving around his desire
to throw the first punch
of every exchange and the last one
without letting his emotions
derail him along the way.
He established himself as one
of America's brightest amateur stars
with a reported 61-8 amateur record,
but then disappointment at the Olympics
leading to his professional turn.
[Crystina] A little more on Jahmal Harvey.
He grew up loving football,
but he was a little too small,
so decided to transfer to boxing,
and good thing he did.
He became a 2021 amateur world champion
and represented the USA
in the 2024 Olympics.
[Mauro] With the official introductions,
here's ring announcer Big Mo.
[Big Mo] And now, ladies and gentlemen,
live from the Kaseya Center
here in Miami, Florida,
and live around the world on Netflix,
we open our main card
with six three-minute rounds
in the super featherweight division.
This and all bouts tonight are promoted
by Nakisa Bidarian
and Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
With our three judges
at ringside scoring this bout,
David Sutherland, Michael Tate,
and Steve Weisfeld.
And our timekeeper, Rich Villazon.
And our referee in charge
when the bell rings is Massimo Montanini.
[Big Mo] And now, ladies and gentlemen,
two warriors, one fight,
who wants it more?
Introducing first, fighting
out of the red corner,
wearing the black trunks with silver trim,
he stands five feet, five inches tall.
He weighed in at 130 pounds even.
Tonight, he enters the ring
undefeated as a professional,
five fights, five victories,
all five wins coming by way of knockout.
And he fights
out of La Puente, California,
by way of Barranquilla, Colombia.
Introducing
Kevin "El Chino"
Cervantes!
[crowd cheering]
[Big Mo] And now, his opponent,
standing across the ring,
fighting out of the blue corner,
wearing the silver trunks
with black and green trim,
he stands five feet,
five and one half inches tall.
He weighed in at 129.6 pounds.
Tonight he enters the ring undefeated
as a professional.
One fight, one victory with that victory
coming by knockout.
And he fights out of Oxon Hill,
Maryland, USA.
Introducing the 2024 U.S. Olympian
and the amateur world champion
and MVP's own Jahmal Harvey!
[crowd cheering]
[referee] There you go, guys.
Respect the rules and respect each other.
[speaks Spanish]
[in English] Okay?
Touch 'em up. Good luck.
[Mauro] The biggest exposure
for two undefeated young pros
and a clear stepping stone,
Olympian and former world amateur champion
Jahmal Harvey making his second
pro appearance as he tries to climb
the super featherweight ranks.
Kevin Cervantes makes his American debut
seeking to make a name for himself
at Harvey's expense.
It's time to Netflix and thrill.
[bell ringing]
[Mauro] First of a scheduled six rounds.
And immediately, Harvey flashing the jab,
a lightning-quick jab.
And of course, David,
when you have an Olympic pedigree,
you have the fundamentals aced,
and it all begins with a textbook jab.
[David] It really does.
You work everything off of that.
And I like the fact he's fighting someone
in his second fight
who's unbeaten in five fights.
That shows a testament
to how confident him
and his team and his management are
in regards to how quickly
he wants to progress
through the professional ranks.
[Mauro] Cervantes
has three first-round knockouts.
He's not gone past the third round.
[Crystina] And the confidence
they have in Harvey
to put him in the spot, right?
Opening up on Netflix
for Jahmal Harvey in only
his second professional fight,
but he was the top target
of MVP coming out of the Olympics.
Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian
saw something in him,
and they signed him, and look,
they've given him a huge opportunity
like this tonight.
So far, so good.
Looks slick here to start.
[Mauro] He's gonna get
the pressure from Cervantes.
[David] From the first minute,
I can see exactly
why they've taken this fight,
because Harvey has the skills.
He really does.
He's putting his punches together
like a seasoned professional
in his second professional fight.
[Mauro] Yeah, he's technically
and tactically sound,
capable of switching his stance
from orthodox to southpaw
as needed, and now is doing it
from a southpaw stance.
[David] He looks
very comfortable with southpaw.
[Mauro] Oh, down goes Cervantes!
It will be ruled a knockdown,
and it comes in round one.
[referee] Six, seven, eight.
You okay? You okay?
[Mauro] Cervantes feels
he was more off balance,
and that punch landed.
It was a left hand,
I believe, that landed for Harvey.
He's now working from orthodox
after scoring a knockdown
here in the first.
[Crystina] Yeah, right on cue, Mauro.
You said how comfortable he looks
in that southpaw stance,
and then, boom,
hits him with the flush left hand.
I think Cervantes
was a little bit off balance,
but there was no doubt about it.
A punch was landed clean there.
[Mauro] Enviable speed
as well for Jahmal Harvey.
[David] Lightning speed.
Absolutely lightning.
He puts his punches together
so crisp and so clean.
And not only that, he's getting out
after he lands those shots.
[Mauro] Now, switches to southpaw
with 40 seconds left in the first.
He's already put Cervantes on the deck.
Remember, Cervantes
in his sixth professional fight
has nothing but knockouts.
And, oh, Harvey looking for a score
with that right uppercut that just missed.
Doing the shoulder roll now
and immediately responds
with a good combination on the inside.
[Crystina] Perfect punch placement
with that left hand there.
He read it, defensively slick,
and landed it right to the body.
[Mauro] And that check right hook
staggered Cervantes momentarily,
knocking him off balance.
And we're seeing
the punch placement of Harvey,
the jab going upstairs,
downstairs, very calm,
cool, and collected for just
his second professional fight.
[David] He's like a coiled spring
-ready to explode at any time.
-[bell ringing]
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[speaks Spanish]
[John, in English]
"I need you to concentrate, okay?"
"You're not concentrating,
I need you to focus."
"Look at me, look at me."
"Work, work.
No, no, no. Not just receive."
"You see how he hits?"
"You know, you felt his hand,
he's not stunning you."
"He's coming in and out, in and out."
"Every time he throws,
he lowers your hand."
"Control your movement, okay?"
"Let's focus, Kevin. Kevin, it's you"
[Crystina] Let's take another look
at the knockdown scored by Harvey
in round one with the left hand.
Although Cervantes agrees,
you see him flick the jab
out there with the right hand
and then come
through with the straight left,
that right hand over the guard there.
And you could see
that Cervantes was kind of swinging
a little bit off balance
with the right.
-[David] Flash knockdown.
-[Kate] Yes, and not hurt by any means,
but there was
a punch landed there from Harvey.
[Mauro] And a huge advantage for Harvey,
21 of 61
in terms of total punches
landed according to CompuBox.
Just 1 of 17 for Cervantes.
So, it was a blizzard of offense.
Lightning-quick offense
from Jahmal Harvey in his second fight.
Just misses with the one-two
from the southpaw stance.
Oh, and he gets countered sharply
with that left hand,
but Cervantes trying to close the gap.
Harvey's got
a great check right hook as well, David.
[David] It's so comfortable.
He doesn't load it up, it's just there,
but it's so fast and crisp.
It's the speed of everything he's doing,
his footwork, his head placement,
the hand placement is
Everything he's doing is
as good as it can get.
[Mauro] And it's obvious
this Olympian has a pro style, Crystina.
[Crystina] He really does.
I mean, this is his only time
fighting in a second round as a pro,
and he got that first round stoppage
in his pro debut,
and he looks very comfortable.
And I'm actually surprised
at how comfortable he looks
fighting in that southpaw stance.
[Mauro] It's so educated,
the jab going upstairs, downstairs,
so fast, so fluid.
The placement is impeccable.
[David] It's the fact he's not getting hit
with any shots.
And Cervantes is throwing
some good punches back,
but it's just not
it's a different sport he's dealing with.
[Mauro] This is the perfect range
for Harvey, mid-range.
He's landing at will.
Upstairs, downstairs,
mixing up the hooks with the right hands.
And, of course, a very educated jab.
There was a lead right uppercut,
immediately pivots out of the way.
Cervantes with that high guard,
but it's a leaky one
as Harvey splits the guard with the jab.
[Crystina] It's definitely stepping up
in the spotlight tonight.
It does not look like
his second professional bout.
He's being defensive,
although he gets caught
with the left hand there.
But I like what I'm seeing early.
He looks composed, David,
under this bright, big stage.
[David] He really does.
You'd expect a novice professional,
though he's had some amateur pedigree,
to be a bit more overawed,
and throw a lot more combinations.
But he's picking his punches.
[Mauro] The final minute
of the second round.
Harvey comes from humble beginnings
as a premature, undersized kid,
who faced health challenges and bullying.
And here he is,
bullying Cervantes in the second round.
And Jahmal Harvey appears
to be more than ready
for his close-up here on Netflix.
In his second fight, continues to take it
to a game Colombian fighter
by the name of Kevin Cervantes,
but he's been unable
to solve Marley whatsoever.
[Crystina] Just a beautiful job
changing levels with that jab.
Upstairs, stab jab
right there to the body.
He's showing
a lot of different levels and layers
to his arsenal,
and that's something you don't always see
with a fighter coming from the amateurs.
[Mauro] And Cervantes having trouble
solving Marley,
'cause he's not fighting Marley,
he's fighting a Jahmal Harvey!
Ten seconds left here in the second.
It is all one-way traffic
for the Olympian from the United States.
-[bell ringing]
-[upbeat music playing]
[crowd cheering, applauding]
[Mauro] Daniel Craig returns
as Benoit Blanc
in Wake Up Dead Man:
A Knives Out Mystery
now playing on Netflix
[coach] When it's like that,
when he lock in,
just get in the inside,
and start running, all right?
How you feeling? Feel good?
You go out there and have some fun.
You warmed up now, all right?
You warmed up?
Hey! Now, give him
some angles this round.
All right,
give him some angles, all right?
[indistinct chatter]
[Mauro] Trainer, Darrell Davis,
built Oxon Hill Boxing
into a tight-knit family atmosphere,
providing Harvey
with a solid support system
in a lonely sport.
Just getting things started here
at Kaseya Center
-[bell ringing]
-in Miami, Florida.
The first of four fights culminating
with the Judgment Day main event,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
And nowhere in my 40-year career
did I ever think
I'd be saying those words,
but it is happening
in tonight's main event.
And right now, what's happening
is the blossoming career of Jahmal Harvey.
[Crystina] Cervantes has
to figure out a way
to get some sort of offense going.
He's being hesitant
to even let himself start
to get his engine going off the jab.
He's clamming up,
and he needs
to really start working his hands, David,
-because he has zero offense coming back.
-[Mauro] Oh!
[David] It sounds like
an easy thing to do,
to throw the jab,
but as soon as his hand leaves his face,
Harvey's countering him
very crisp and very hard,
which forces Cervantes to have his hands
in that defensive position.
[Mauro] And the uppercut's
becoming an instrumental part
of the arsenal,
but it all begins with that jab.
-Such a-- It's an Ivy League-educated jab.
-[David] It truly is.
And I like the way Harvey's coach
was telling him to go out there,
and have some fun, enjoy it.
[Mauro] It seems like
he's enjoying every single second.
And Cervantes now trying to reload,
going to the body.
Vying with the jab.
Oh, and it almost looked like
he threw the right uppercut
as a decoy to land
the left hand there by Harvey.
[David] That's exactly what he did.
He's trying things out,
he realizes he's got a cagey opponent.
So, he's practicing.
And as his coach said,
he's enjoying himself in there.
[Mauro] And Crystina,
he's doing a good job
of going to the body
with the jab, of course,
making that early investment,
trying to sap the energy
out of Cervantes.
[Crystina] I love it. And there's
the right hand I was looking for
for the follow behind that jab.
He shot about three of them in a row,
straight down to the body.
I'd like to see him also let go
with the right hand behind it.
[Mauro] We talk about pitching shutouts
on judges' scorecards,
and he is pitching a literal shutout
right now in round three.
And now, Cervantes trying to open up,
but he gets tagged and tagged again.
Cervantes getting lit up
-like a Christmas tree.
-[Crystina] His glove--
[Mauro] And he is--
No, the referee, Massimo
Montanini says it was a slip.
Shout-out to my nephew, Massimo,
and my nephew, Roberto,
watching in the mighty metropolis
of Mount Lehman,
British Columbia, Canada, tonight.
And it's all Jahmal Harvey.
Oh, but Cervantes trying to fight back,
trying to stand his ground.
[David] Jahmal there is showing
some great heart here.
He really is.
He's really trying the best he can.
Obviously, he's undefeated himself,
doesn't wanna taste defeat.
[Mauro] And he will--
Well, it's 30 seconds away
from going to his first fourth round
as a professional,
and he'll have to make adjustments
in between rounds to try to find a way
to score against a guy
who is just having the time of his life
in his second professional bout
here on Netflix.
And man, those uppercuts,
they're coming close.
[David] He's setting some traps here.
Ooh!
[Mauro] There's a right cross
that clipped the jaw of Cervantes.
-It is all Jahmal Harvey.
-[bell ringing]
-[upbeat music playing]
-[crowd cheering, applauding]
-[speaking indistinctly]
-[speaking Spanish]
[John] "Hey, Kevin,
don't give it up, dude."
"Talk to me, talk to me."
"What's going on?
What's wrong? What's wrong with you?"
"Kevin I need you to focus here."
[Mauro] "What's wrong with him?"
He's facing Jahmal Harvey!
[John] "You came in to strike him."
"You didn't come here
to get punched, right?"
[Crystina] Jahmal Harvey having his way
from the orthodox or southpaw stance.
Here, in the southpaw stance,
landing that beautiful straight left hand.
He's controlled the pace
the entire way through.
He's just dominating Cervantes
through the first three rounds
of this fight.
-[whistle blowing]
-[indistinct chatter]
[Mauro] Well, Harvey told us
his style is aggressive
-[bell ringing]
-[Mauro] but straightforward. I--
It's not just straightforward,
it's spectacular.
[David chuckles]
There's nothing straightforward
about this style whatsoever
[Mauro] Now, he's on his back foot,
but setting that trap from southpaw,
wanting Cervantes to close the gap,
and then light him up
with that counter left.
[Crystina] And to be able
to perfectly place that left hand,
he's doing a great job, is Harvey,
getting his lead right foot
on the outside of Cervantes' left foot,
and that allows him to cut that distance
and land those perfect shots.
[Mauro] Oh, a chopping right hand
by Harvey.
Cervantes gets backed up
with that jab from southpaw.
And again, he continues
to vary his attack upstairs, downstairs,
steady like a metronome.
-[grunts]
-[David] So fast.
[Mauro] And he's a tennis player too
by the sounds of it.
-[David chuckles]
-[Mauro] Expending grunts, and
And why not?
Under two minutes now left here
in round four.
And for Cervantes,
what adjustments would you try
to make on the fly
to try to get something going?
[David] I'm not sure
what he could do here.
The more he brings his arms away
from defending his face,
the quicker he will be unconscious
by the looks of things.
Sadly for him,
he's fighting somebody
who's just superior in every department.
Maybe just go toe-to-toe,
and start swinging, and hope for the best.
[Mauro] I know the fans
would appreciate that.
By the way, through the fourth round,
and Jahmal Harvey continues
to use that educated jab.
Missing though there
with the right and left
as Cervantes ducked underneath,
but Cervantes not firing back.
[Crystina] I mean, when you've landed
almost a hundred more punches
than your opponent,
I think you're in pretty good shape.
-[Mauro] And it's only round four.
-[Crystina] Wow.
[Mauro] So, he's landed
over 25 punches around.
A minute left here in the fourth,
and Jahmal Harvey
strafing Kevin Cervantes.
High guard by Harvey.
Oh, but Cervantes able to get
the right hand through the guard,
and then the right hand to the body
by Cervantes.
[David] And here he goes. This [chuckles]
[Mauro] The right uppercut glancing off
the gloves of Cervantes.
Overhand left by Harvey.
[David] I think Harvey
just wanted to tuck up,
and try to give Cervantes
some sort of confidence
so he lets his hands go a little bit
and gives him opportunities to counter.
[Mauro] Oh, and he zigged
when Cervantes was zagging.
[referee speaking indistinctly]
[Mauro] Double jab, and then to the body,
beautifully done by Harvey.
-[coach yelling]
-Back! Get back.
[Crystina] Really smart
to go to the body right now.
And right back to it he goes.
I like that decision by Harvey.
[Mauro] Nice body shot.
Right hand upstairs,
counter right by Cervantes.
-We are through four rounds.
-[bell ringing]
-[Mauro] Scheduled for six.
-[crowd cheering, applauding]
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] And we wanna extend
a Happy Holidays to everyone.
We have Michael Irvin,
Brandon Marshall, Kay Adams,
and Bert Kreischer in the house,
and they'll be bringing you
the ultimate NFL
Christmas GameDay experience.
Catch the Cowboys versus the Commanders
at 1:00 p.m. Eastern,
then the Lions against the Vikings
at 4:30 p.m. Eastern
with a special halftime performance
by my one-time broadcast partner,
Snoop Dogg,
available globally live on Netflix.
[indistinct chatter]
[Crystina] Landing at will
is Jahmal Harvey,
even when he kind of smothers
his shots a little bit,
he cocks back the right hand,
and he's able to get himself enough
-on that punch right there
-[whistle blowing]
beautifully landed
on the chin of Cervantes.
[Mauro] Through four rounds,
Harvey's landed more punches, 120,
-than Cervantes has thrown, 106.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] As we begin round number five,
Harvey starts as orthodox,
and immediately just goes
to the jab, David.
I mean, it's not-- It is basic technique,
but there's nothing basic about it.
[David] There's nothing basic whatsoever.
He's been through like six jabs in a row,
all landing.
Every single jab, step back, right hand,
he seems to have it all.
[Mauro] Now, he's lulling him into a pulp.
He's got the Roy Jones Jr. style,
the hands down,
but that's just setting a trap.
And he has the speed and reflexes
to set that trap.
-Not everyone does.
-[David] Not everybody does.
And obviously, he does, because, you know
To become a World Amateur Champion
is not easy.
I was World Amateur silver medalist,
so I came second in the World Amateur
Championship. I know how hard it is.
It's probably harder
than the actual Olympics.
Now, Harvey, he seems to have
all of the things,
the speed, timing, the reflexes,
as you said.
It's so important,
particularly with that low left hand,
or low right hand,
depending on which position he's in.
It's imperative to have those reflexes.
[Mauro] Sterling defense on display,
Crystina, as well.
[Crystina] Yeah, and if that's
Roy Jones-esque with the hands down,
it's Terence Crawford-esque
the way he's able to switch seamlessly
between orthodox and southpaw.
I don't typically like to see
young fighters do that.
Usually there's a lapse somewhere,
mostly on defense,
but he seems to be flowing, Mauro,
back and forth seamlessly
from both stances.
[Mauro] And we know
how long boxing retirements last,
but if it is a retirement,
I do wanna congratulate Terence Crawford
on an all-time great career.
I called his fight with Errol Spence Jr.
It may have been one of the most
virtuosic performances I've called.
[Crystina] I've had
the pleasure of covering
almost his entire career as well,
and much respect to him going out on top.
Salute to Terence Crawford, for sure.
Enjoy your retirement.
[Mauro] Until the money
brings him back in the ring,
-hey, hey, hey.
-[David] I don't think so.
I think he's achieved all he needs to.
[Mauro] Hey, he and Henry Armstrong
are the only undisputed champions
of three different weight classes.
I mean, it doesn't get better than that.
[David] It doesn't.
I'm so happy with his career,
what he's done,
the nights of entertainment.
[Mauro] But boy,
did he have the killer instinct,
and if Jahmal Harvey
has that killer instinct,
then that's just the cherry
on the proverbial sundae,
'cause he showcased everything,
and we've seen his power,
even though it was an off-balance shot,
it still was a flush punch that landed
for the knockdown in round one.
But there's Cervantes
going to the body with a left hook.
Would you like to see
Harvey start to sit down
with more malevolence,
and become a little more aggressive?
Or It's in the second fight.
Rounds are important.
[David] Rounds are important
at this stage, you know?
It's no good bringing in some guy
who's lost ten fights in a row.
That's not gonna benefit Harvey.
He needs guys who are coming at him,
strong guys like Cervantes to extend him,
to push him, to ask him questions.
[Mauro] I mean, the stats
are just mind-boggling in Harvey's favor.
He's gotta be careful there, getting
a little wild, getting off balance,
-but Cervantes unable
-[bell ringing]
to return fire adequately.
[upbeat music playing]
One more.
[coach] Don't let him breathe!
It just stays like that.
Breathe, breathe. Breathe.
One more round, huh?
[speaking indistinctly]
Same punch, okay? Do you, all right?
[indistinct chatter]
[speaking indistinctly]
[speaks indistinctly]
Just one round.
You ready? Let's go.
[Big Mo] Ladies and gentlemen,
this is the last and final round!
[whistle blowing]
[Mauro]
Round six here at Kaseya Center, Miami.
-Cervantes needs a Hail Mary punch.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] Harvey representing
Oxon Hill, Maryland,
a small blue-collar town
just outside Washington D.C.
that has produced
some of boxing's biggest names
including the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard,
The Russell Family,
and current 130-pound Champ,
Lamont Roach Jr.
Well, Harvey has designs already
just in his second professional fight
at getting a shot at a 130-pound title.
And by the way, Roach, for Christmas,
would like to find a break
wrapped up under the tree.
I mean, two high profile draws
that could've very well been two victories
for Lamont Roach Jr.
against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz.
As Harvey continues to light up Cervantes
here in the final round.
[Crystina] Well, you can tell he's
honed and groomed his chops
alongside those names that you mentioned
because of how fluid he looks
in this second pro fight.
I am thoroughly impressed
with the skill set
that he's bringing to the table tonight.
and the composure for the young,
23-year-old on this stage.
-I mean, it's just remarkable.
-[David] Who can ask him questions?
You know,
you put him in there with a journeyman,
they knock him out in one round.
You've got to get an undefeated fighter
with a 100% knockout record like--
[Mauro] Oh! Getting some chin
right uppercuts from Harvey,
who is competitive about everything,
be it sports, Connect Four,
and, yes, the chess club in high school.
So, you talk about IQ,
it's ring IQ and IQ period,
as he continues to try to, well,
decrease Cervantes's IQ
with some of these hard shots to the head.
[Crystina] He also has that in common
with Terence Crawford too,
probably the most competitive athlete
I've ever met.
Not probably. He is.
[Mauro] Midway through the final round
and Cervantes eating
a combination upstairs.
There's a jab to the body.
Harvey stuck to the game plan,
showcasing some fluid footwork
and able to land on the move.
[Crystina] And you could just tell
that this was a step up
in level of opposition for Cervantes
that he just wasn't ready for.
[David] I don't think
he'll ever be ready for this.
[Mauro] Yeah, his final minute here.
You're right.
Just that there's levels for a reason.
And despite being less experienced
as a pro,
Jahmal Harvey obviously set up for success
here in the 130-pound division.
And again,
he'll have to take on higher
and higher classes
and then, of course,
eventually become a contender.
But it appears to me
that he may be on the fast track.
[David] He sure is on a fast track.
I'm not sure what else he needs to learn
other than getting quality rounds
in the bank.
He's got six quality rounds here.
It's going to be very tough
finding opponents
to get in the ring with him.
[Mauro] The numbers back all of that up.
And he's backing up Cervantes
with this offense,
sending down on these shots.
Final ten seconds
of what has been a bravura performance
for Jahmal Harvey
in just his second professional fight.
-The Olympian has shone bright.
-[bell ringing]
[crowd cheers, applauds]
[Mauro]
And we will get the official decision
as Judgment Day rolls on
from Miami here on Netflix.
[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] Not every fight is easy to score,
Sean Wheelock,
but this fight was easy to score.
[Sean] Extremely easy, Mauro.
You see it, six rounds to zero,
60-53 for the U.S. Olympian,
Jahmal Harvey,
10-8 for Harvey on what proved to be
the lone knockdown of the fight
in round number one.
Jahmal Harvey with volume,
with beautiful technique,
and also showing real punching power
at 130 pounds.
Ladies and gentlemen,
after six full rounds,
we go to the judges' scorecard
for the official decision.
All three judges see the contest 60 to 53,
declaring your winner
by unanimous decision
and still undefeated, Jahmal Harvey!
-[crowd cheering]
-[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] A name to keep your eyes on.
Jahmal Harvey, a U.S. Olympian
who improves to 2 and 0 as a pro,
goes a six-round distance
with Kevin Cervantes
and was simply sublime
in all aspects of the game.
As we look at
the CompuBox final punch stats.
Total punches, like not even close,
185 of 460 for Harvey,
37 of 196 for Cervantes.
Ariel Helwani is going to speak
to the victor.
Mauro, thank you very much.
Jahmal, my man,
you were flowing out there.
Congratulations on a spectacular win.
I see a massive smile on your face.
Are you pleased
with your second pro fight?
Yeah, I'm pleased with
my second pro fight.
I went on and dominated every round.
I thought I got
a little carried away at moments.
I was trying to get him out of there
because I was just hitting him repeatedly.
I was trying to get it over with,
make it a short night,
but he was a tough opponent.
I take my hat off to him.
He said that he ain't quit.
I messed with him.
I was wondering, while you were
hitting with those big shots,
were you getting frustrated
that he wasn't going away?
Yeah, I was getting frustrated.
I thought, usually I put guys away,
hitting them.
They either quit or they go down.
He just kept coming, kept fighting.
Kudos to him.
[Ariel] Well, you pitched a shutout.
Again, tremendous stuff.
Miami, make some noise
for the undefeated Jahmal Harvey!
[crowd cheers, applauding]
[Mauro] Future's so bright,
he might have to wear shades.
Jahmal Harvey, 23, now 2 and 0,
just beginning what looks like
a very promising career
in the boxing ring.
Still to come tonight
as part of Judgment Day,
two MMA legends who are getting it on
in the boxing ring.
Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley,
both of them share Jake Paul
as a common opponent.
And then the co-feature,
unified super featherweight championship.
For all intents and purposes,
Alycia Baumgardner
should still be undisputed.
We'll get to that a little later.
She defends her title
against Leila Beaudoin.
And the main event,
do not adjust your screens,
it is going to be Jake Paul
against Anthony Joshua.
[dramatic music playing]
Hey, everybody. Good evening to you.
I'm Kate Scott,
and I'm with boxing royalty this evening.
Laila Ali, Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis,
Hall of Famers, all of them.
What a main event we have got
for you tonight.
The American influencer turned boxer,
Jake Paul,
looking to do what he does best
and "disrupt" as he calls it.
What will he try and disrupt tonight?
Well, the whole of boxing if he wins
this fight against Anthony Joshua.
He's got the pimp stick.
big chains, good entrance.
Anthony Joshua, as well,
two-time heavyweight champion,
has also made his entrance
into the building,
into Kaseya Center,
surrounded by his team,
looking to pull off what he can
and impress all of boxing.
He's out here to represent
for all of boxing.
Let's talk about this,
'cause I guess we know that he's entering
the final stretch of his career,
but he's coming off those, you know,
the brutal knockout loss to Daniel Dubois.
Do we know what he has left, Lennox?
Yeah, no,
we don't really know what he has left.
He's gonna have to prove it to us
what he has left.
And I say that he's got a lot left.
I think it's gonna be a good fight
in the sense of
he wants a good win right now
because he's coming off a bad loss.
So, he's coming out here to prove a point,
prove that he's still there,
and he still wants to be
heavyweight champion of the world.
So, you know,
I don't think a fight like this proves it,
but it gets him closer.
[Kate]
If it is somehow a competitive fight
and Jake goes rounds with Anthony Joshua,
with every round that he goes,
Anthony Joshua's stock will go down.
Is that right, Laila?
I think so, absolutely.
Because as I've made it pretty clear,
I think my opinion is that
Jake Paul does not belong in the ring
with Anthony Joshua.
So, if we see anything different
than him showing us that,
it's not gonna be good for him.
It's just absolutely not.
How will the world of boxing react
if Anthony Joshua happens to lose
this fight tonight, Andre?
It's not gonna be good.
Joshua's career will be over.
He may fight on,
but it's essentially over.
Nobody will believe in him anymore.
And that's the thing
about taking a fight like this.
It's good, it's fun,
you make a lot of money,
but there's a small margin of error.
If he loses a round, that's a problem.
If he loses moments in a round,
that's a problem.
He's supposed to dominate this fight
from start to finish.
In the way he did against Francis Ngannou,
we all saw what happened in that fight,
two rounds and it was done.
Okay, everybody, Anthony Joshua,
he is a legit superstar,
one of the best heavyweights
of his generation,
one of the biggest draws
in boxing as well.
He's sold out a crowd of over 90,000
at Wembley more than once.
And yes, he has had his setbacks,
but he's also one of boxing's
most accomplished heavyweights,
and he is a British icon.
-[dramatic music playing]
-[Ice T] Dignified. Proper.
Perhaps even majestic.
I was born in Great Britain,
where the queen's from,
and we drink tea.
[Ice T]
But don't be taken in by his charm.
Anthony Joshua is massive.
He's powerful and trained to do damage.
I'm a good guy,
but I have a passion to hurt people.
You know what's funny
about the job I'm in?
The more I hurt people
the more the people love me.
[announcer]
Representing Great Britain, Anthony
[Ice T] He started boxing
at the late age of eighteen,
rocketed to local stardom as an amateur,
and went global
by striking Olympic gold.
[announcer]
Anthony Joshua is the Olympic champion.
[Ice T] Other heavyweights quickly
took notice, as AJ quickly took over.
[commentator] A huge right hand!
The new world heavyweight champion!
[Anthony] I become heavyweight world
champion after sixteen fights,
and I had to unify the division
against the great Wladimir Klitschko.
[commentator] Unbelievable!
Anthony Joshua tumbles him again!
[Ice T] Of course, once you've
reached the summit,
it's tough to stay there.
Despite reclaiming his unified
world titles in 2019,
Joshua has lost three
of his last seven fights.
[commentator] AJ looks like a beaten man.
[Ice T] Including back-to-back
decisions to Oleksandr Usyk.
To turn things around,
he looked to a new set of coaches.
The team who helped Usyk take him down.
Then the phone rang.
[Anthony] One day, I'm training.
[imitates phone call] I see Jake Paul.
"Yo, what's happening?"
"Look, the Tank fight fell out."
"We want to fight you."
I'm like, "Okay."
[Ice T]
Signing on with such short notice
after fifteen months away
raises two very different questions.
Can he possibly be ready?
Or is he all ready?
I only have one intent. To hurt him.
Remember, Jake,
you called me out of hibernation.
Let's go.
Welcome to Netflix.
-[laughs]
-[music concludes]
[Kate laughs]
Well, the laugh says this is easy money,
but the pressure is roundly
on Anthony Joshua.
If he lets Jake Paul hang around,
the critics will come for him.
We have got two bouts
to go before Jake Paul
and Anthony Joshua fight. We're going
to be back after this break. Stay with us.
[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
-[dramatic music playing]
-[Kate] Hi, everybody, welcome back.
Take a look at this, Jake Paul
checking out the ring last night.
Andre, we wanna get your thoughts on this.
[Andre] That's normal behavior.
This is something
that fighters do all the time.
You're looking for lumps,
you're looking for cracks,
any soft spots in the ring.
But the gloving up
-in the ring, pad work.
-[Kate] The pad work, right.
[Andre] I think he's gonna do
some breathing in a few seconds.
-[Laila] You're gonna see that.
-[Andre] That's never happened.
But nothing Jake Paul does
is conventional,
so that's par for the course for him.
[Kate] Does this help him in some way?
-[Andre] Say it again.
-[Kate] Does this help him in some way?
[Andre] I mean, he's trying to mark
his territory and feel the ring
and feel like, you know, "Hey,
this is going to be home tomorrow night."
So if it works for him, it works for him.
[Kate] A little extra for your taste?
-[Andre] Just a bit.
-[Kate laughs]
All right, well, Jake Paul
and Anthony Joshua are separated,
not only by years of training,
years of experience,
there is also, of course,
a massive difference in size,
which is even more significant
when you think about
who Jake was initially training to fight.
In fact, when he pivoted
from fighting Gervonta Davis
to Anthony Joshua, he agreed to take
on a fighter who is a foot taller
and over 100 pounds heavier
than his original opponent.
And that, of course,
has required just a major shift
in Jake's preparation and in his mindset.
Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul, take one.
-[tense music playing]
-[laughs]
I never thought I'd say those words.
Breaking news since we last spoke,
Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul
are finalizing a deal
for a heavyweight fight
after his exhibition with Gervonta Davis
was canceled.
[Ice T] And that exhibition
was scheduled to happen just last month.
Paul was primed
to enjoy a sizable advantage
of more than seven inches and 60 pounds.
I was training to fight the smaller guy.
I was working on speed,
coming down in weight.
But I saw the tricks
that all the little guys
were doing to me to be able to hit me.
[trainer] Lean first, lean first.
Now, I'm taking all of that
and I'm the little guy
going against the big guy
who's gonna have trouble hitting me.
[trainer] Good.
Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul,
David versus Goliath, Judgment Day.
The difference in training camp
right now is less running and track work
and more lifting, heavy weights.
[trainer] Push, push, go.
[Jake] Trying to put on
as much muscle as possible.
Run, baby, run! Run!
Use those legs, use those legs!
Work, work, there you go.
[Jake] Everyone thinks this is crazy.
-But they don't know what I know.
-See that?
And they're not in the gym with us.
[grunts]
They don't see what me and my coaches see.
I know Anthony's weakness.
This guy has no rhythm.
[commentator 1] Joshua's down again!
[Jake] He's got no chin. He's slow.
All he has is that one punch power.
[commentator 2] Unbelievable!
Huge right hand!
[Jake] But you don't think I'm gonna see
those big-ass slow punches coming.
It's like slow motion.
Meanwhile, I'm [imitates whooshing]
He's gone, bang!
There it is! [laughs]
Jake Paul did it again.
[in high-pitched voice] I'm the greatest
in the world! [laughs]
[Theo] Good, Jake, good.
Anything that he tries to do,
Jake is gonna have answers.
Boom, bam! That's what I'm talking about.
[Jake] Anthony Joshua
is walking into a trap.
He's thinking he's this big almighty guy,
easy fight, but I have sneaky shots
that can put this guy out.
He's the one that needs to be scared.
All the pressure's on him.
[Larry] Jake has more power
than what most people think.
I've been with a lot
of top world champions,
and he by far hits harder than anyone
I've ever worked with before.
[commentator shouting indistinctly]
I got weapons, and he's literally walking
into my scope.
[music concludes]
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
-[dramatic music playing]
-[Mauro] It's like Jake Paul said.
He went from looking down
at a tank to looking up at one.
And everyone in Miami
already having a party
as we get ready
for Judgment Day's main event,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
But right now, we're ready
for another crossover event.
Two MMA greats are gonna get it on
inside the boxing ring.
Fifty-year-old Anderson Silva,
still in tremendous shape,
one of the greatest
mixed martial artists ever,
takes on a former UFC welterweight
champion in Tyron Woodley.
They share Jake Paul as a common opponent.
Silva was dropped and outpointed by Paul.
Woodley, the only guy
to face Jake Paul twice.
He went to a split decision
the first time,
but was brutally knocked out
in the rematch.
Let's see what happens as these
two MMA greats do it boxing style.
Let's bring in our rules expert
and unofficial scorer, Sean Wheelock.
[Sean] This bout is scheduled
for six rounds.
There is no three knockdown rule.
A fighter cannot be saved
by the bell in any round.
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[Crystina] We return
to the squared circle.
He is a two-time All-American wrestler.
He was at Missouri, and he, of course,
a four-time UFC welterweight champion.
Different weight class
in the UFC than was Anderson Silva,
but he has faced Jake Paul twice
in boxing matches.
Unfortunately for him, he is 0-2.
[Big Mo] Welcome back,
ladies and gentlemen,
inside the Kaseya Center here
in beautiful Miami,
Florida, USA!
As we move towards our main event tonight,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua,
we first arrive
at a very special matchup
in the cruiserweight division.
Introducing first,
making his way down the ramp,
please welcome Tyron Woodley!
[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] At the age of 43,
Tyron Woodley returns to boxing action.
Best remembered
as a UFC welterweight champion,
he used his right hand,
despite his elite wrestling background,
he used his right hand to knock out
Hall of Famer "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler
to become welterweight champion.
He's going to look
to use that right hand tonight
as he returns
after four years away from boxing
to take on a fellow MMA great.
And for Tyron Woodley,
he's been staying in shape
while filming Road House 2 in London.
He worked at London Shootfighters
with fellow MMA fighters Michael Chandler,
Michael "Venom" Page,
and Steven "Wonderboy" Thompson.
But he's looking
for his first win as a pro boxer.
Man, hats off to the over-40 crowd,
right, don't you think, David?
[David] Hats off to them.
They're all in great shape.
Ready to go.
[Crystina] And his opponent,
Anderson Silva,
widely considered the greatest
middleweight fighter in UFC history,
but tonight he returns
to one of his first loves,
and that is the squared circle,
the longest title reign
in MMA history, over six-plus years,
no question inducted
into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023,
and this will be his sixth
professional fight as a pro boxer.
[Big Mo] And now his opponent,
making his way to the ring,
here is Anderson Silva!
-[crowd cheering]
-[hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] A true icon
in the sport of mixed martial arts.
One of the greatest strikers
to ever compete in MMA.
Had the Muay Thai background,
but always interested in boxing.
And he was a sniper in mixed martial arts.
Used all of his limbs, of course.
His hands, his elbows,
his knees, and his feet.
But here he is tonight,
coming into his sixth professional fight,
three and two. He does hold a win
over former middleweight belt
holder Julio Chvez Jr.,
who, of course, Julio Csar Chvez Jr.
last victimized by Jake Paul.
Anderson Silva went the distance
with Jake Paul,
was dropped and outpointed,
and we've already told you
what happened to Tyron Woodley.
So, two former Jake Paul victims look
to, well, do it boxing style,
despite their legendary MMA rsums.
All right,
with the official introductions,
here is Big Mo.
And now, ladies and gentlemen,
our next contest is scheduled
for six three-minute rounds
in the cruiserweight division,
live from right here in Miami, Florida,
and live all around the world on Netflix,
promoted by Nakisa Bidarian
and Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
Our three judges scoring
this bout at ringside,
Efrain Lebron, Benoit Roussel,
and David Sutherland,
with our timekeeper, Rick Villazon.
And our referee in charge
when the bell rings
is Sam Burgos.
And now, ladies and gentlemen,
two warriors, one fight,
who wants it more?
Introducing first,
fighting out of the red corner,
wearing the black trunks,
with pink and blue trim,
he stands five feet nine inches tall,
he weighed in at 194 pounds even,
and he fights out of Ferguson
in St. Louis, Missouri,
introducing the former
UFC welterweight champion
of the world, "The Chosen One,"
Tyron Woodley!
[crowd cheering]
[Big Mo] And now his opponent,
standing across the ring,
fighting out of the blue corner
wearing the black trunks with yellow trim,
he stands six feet two inches tall,
he weighed in at 191.4 pounds,
and he fights
out of Los Angeles, California,
by way of So Paulo, Brazil,
introducing the former UFC
middleweight champion of the world,
he is the longest-reigning UFC Champion
of all time!
Miami, all rise
for Anderson "The Spider" Silva!
[crowd cheering, applauding]
All right, gentlemen. Welcome to the 305.
Remember, I gave you instructions
in the back, obey my commands,
protect yourself at all times.
Right here is good, right here is good,
at the bell, come out fighting,
touch them if you like.
[Mauro] One of combat sports
greatest ever, Anderson Silva,
taking on Tyron Woodley.
They were outstanding
inside the UFC Octagon.
Let's see what they have in store
for us here in the boxing ring.
And looking at Anderson Silva,
I can be convinced that 50 is the new 30.
My God, does he look good.
-[David] He really does
-[bell ringing]
and they say
the last thing you lose is your punch.
[Mauro] And he's got that knockout power
based on his Muay Thai skills,
but for Anderson Silva,
it's all about that fluid movement.
Even at 50, it's still gonna be
on his footwork and his ability
to lull Tyron Woodley to walk into a trap.
[Crystina] Yeah, you see
Anderson Silva right away
in that southpaw striker stance.
He's got deceptive angles,
and he's got that knockout power
that he was able to hone
through Muay Thai.
Not the same come up,
though, for Tyron Woodley,
who got his background
as an All-American wrestler,
is how he honed his chops.
[Mauro] Anderson Silva,
a very effective counter-striker,
and you can already tell, David,
he's waiting to launch that left hand.
Tyron Woodley, yes,
very good in wrestling,
but he's always had an interest in boxing,
and he has pop in that right hand.
He bothered Jake Paul in their first fight
with that right hand,
but then was on the receiving end,
the only guy to face Jake Paul twice,
and unfortunately he went viral
for all the wrong reasons in the rematch.
And I'm not surprised by the pace.
Again, 50-year-old Silva,
43-year-old Woodley.
You don't expect
to see lightning-quick speed,
but how do you rate
what you're seeing thus far, David?
[David] Woodley's always
had a massive right hook.
That's why it's been his signature punch.
But Anderson Silva, he's so awkward.
He's got a very, very unique style,
and I was fortunate enough to share
a bill with him four years ago,
where he fought Tito Ortiz,
-and came out very
-[Mauro] Another UFC great.
came out very calm like this,
but all of a sudden exploded one shot
and put Tito to sleep.
[Mauro] I'm not totally surprised
that the crowd reacting the way they are,
and even now what we're seeing.
I didn't expect to see a lot of punches
being thrown in the first round,
knowing their backgrounds,
especially Anderson Silva.
[David] Anderson Silva is, as I said,
it might not look
like much is happening here,
but all of a sudden a shot will land
and Woodley will go down.
[Mauro] Just over a minute left
in the opening round.
Silva has Woodley corralled in the corner.
[Crystina] And I'm not surprised either.
It's been quite some time
since both of these men
have been in a boxing ring.
The last time Anderson Silva
was in the boxing ring was back in 2022
against Jake Paul, like you mentioned.
And then for Tyron Woodley,
that was against Jake Paul
as well in 2021.
-So, rust doesn't begin to explain it.
-[Mauro] Yeah, his only experience
has been against the Problem Child.
Man, Silva's thrown
just four punches, landed one.
So, Woodley doing much better
in terms of the offense,
but then gets picked off right there
as he goes for the jab to the body.
Everything being relatively speaking,
you would like to see
a little more offense from both of them.
[David] I would like
to see some more offense,
-but this is Anderson Silva's start.
-[Mauro] Go with the crowd. [laughs]
[David] I think we've been spoiled
with the fights we've had tonight.
All of the fights
have been absolute action-packed,
so this is the first one
where we're getting a little bit
of a feel-out in the first round.
-[bell ringing]
-Stop.
[Mauro] Tyron Woodley,
eight of 21 in the opening round.
Silva just two for six.
And there is the MVP Owner's Suite,
the best experience in sports.
Hey, this is a part
of one-of-a-kind VIP offering
from the MVP Owner's Experience,
where every punch lands
right in front of you.
This isn't just a big event,
it's your event.
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[indistinct chatter in Portuguese]
[Mauro] Nicolas Robledo,
the trainer in--
The chief second
in Anderson Silva's corner.
Gerald Tucker Sr.,
the trainer for Tyron Woodley.
And as we get set for round number two,
I want to mention that celebrated trainer
and champion kickboxer
Duke Roufus shaped Tyron Woodley
into a mixed martial arts champion
at Roufusport in Milwaukee.
-Duke Roufus died peacefully in his sleep
-[bell ringing]
on October 17th of this year
at the age of just 55.
A former broadcast partner
of mine doing kickboxing,
one of the greatest guys you will meet
in Duke Roufus.
He will be deeply missed
as we begin round two.
And there's a little more jump now
in Anderson Silva's game, David.
[David] He's warmed up now.
There you go. Look, right uppercut.
I think he wanted just to ease
into the first round.
At 50 years of age, he needs a little time
to get the engine lubricated.
[Mauro] Silva missing or stepping away
from that right hand of Woodley.
And of course, for Woodley,
that's the money shot.
That's the punch that he's got to land,
but remember, Tyrone Woodley
was a champion in MMA at 170 pounds.
Anderson Silva ruled the roost at 185
and fought as high as 205 in MMA.
And now here they are fighting
at cruiserweight,
which spans 176 to 200 pounds.
You know that very well, David Haye.
-[David] That was my old weight division--
-[Mauro] When you ruled, my friend.
[David] Anderson Silva naturally
would come in around that weight.
He wouldn't have to drop too much weight.
Woodley would need to probably
eat himself up to that a little bit.
-[Mauro] Oh, we're now on the ropes.
-[David] Oh!
[Mauro] Crystina Poncher, David Haye.
Silva!
Winding up Woodley. Woodley is down!
Silva scoring the knockdown here
in round two.
Six! Seven! Eight--
Look at me! Look at me!
Woodley, go here. You wanna fight?
[Mauro] A nifty 50 years of age.
Anderson Silva popping Ty Woodley.
And Woodley still doesn't seem all right.
He needs to clear the cobwebs.
The referee's not going to allow Woodley
to continue.
Fifty years of age,
Anderson "The Spider" Silva
scores a stoppage in the second round.
His third knockout as a pro boxer.
[David] That's exactly what I said
was gonna happen.
Nothing happens until it does.
He actually touched his foot
just like Roy Jones used to do
to bring him right up.
It was absolutely splendid.
For a 50-year-old man
to put off such athleticism,
-you've gotta take your hat off to him.
-[Mauro] When it comes to Silva's roots,
I'm going to paraphrase
Mensa-level MC Black Thought.
Silva grew up in a place
where opportunity was afraid to knock
in So Paulo, Brazil.
And yet like Pel to soccer,
Ayrton Senna to racing,
Anderson Silva representing Brazil
at the highest level.
Did I mention he was 50!
[dramatic music playing]
[Crystina] Touches the boot
and then uppercut
with a beautifully placed right hand
that Tyron Woodley did not see coming.
He did not take the shot well.
Almost goes for the takedown
as he falls forward nearly flat
on his face.
But just classic Anderson Silva
with the ode to Roy Jones.
Boom! Taps the shoe,
shoots it perfectly through the guard.
[Mauro] A huge Roy Jones Jr. fan
who wanted to box Roy Jones,
Anderson Silva.
[Crystina] I still wouldn't put
that past him either.
I bet they could find a way
to make that happen.
[Mauro] That's an Anthony Joshua-esque
right uppercut there, David Haye.
[David] It was absolutely beautiful.
Fifty years of age.
What athleticism, what speed,
what precision, what accuracy.
What a gentleman as well.
Comes over, touches gloves.
I think the corner waved in.
I think his corner waved in.
[Mauro] It cannot be overstated.
The Mount Rushmore of MMA.
-Anderson Silva, all combat sports.
-[David] Of all combat sports.
-One of the greatest to ever be
-[Mauro] Incredible athlete.
And we're talking about a man
who's half a century old.
My God, let's go inside the ring
to Big Mo.
Ladies and gentlemen,
referee Sam Burgos calls a stop
to this contest at one minute,
33 seconds of the second round.
Declaring your winner by TKO,
Anderson "The Spider"
Silva!
[hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] Bring out the aspirin
because what we just saw
from Anderson Silva was just sick.
Let's go to Ariel Helwani.
[Ariel] Anderson, Anderson.
I am here with the legend, Anderson Silva,
who continues to inspire,
who continues to defy logic
at 50 years young.
-Anderson, my friend
-Tell me.
how did you do that?
Wow, look, this guy's here.
I have young kids
to push me hard every day, you know?
And the great team in Brazil,
my amazing coach here,
Coach Nico and Coach Dorea,
and I'm so happy
to be here and continue
doing something I love, bro.
-This is amazing.
-[Ariel] Were you expecting a quick fight?
Were you expecting to get rid of him
in the second round?
No, I just try to take my time,
you know, my distance.
And I'm lucky, but
Lucky is the people training hard
and I'm lucky.
[Ariel] Yeah, I disagree.
I don't think you're lucky.
I think you're very good, my friend.
And we're looking at the highlights
right here, tell us what you see?
Wow!
I received the whole punch
of this guy in training, you know?
The guy's giving me a lot
of punch in training, you know?
And kicked my ass the whole time
in training,
and I come here and do my best.
Yeah. Don't bully me, man.
You're the one that kicked my ass
the whole time in training, bro.
-Come on, bro.
-[Ariel] And so now, Anderson, what else?
Isn't this a great moment to go out on
or do you wanna keep going?
I mean, I keep doing, you know,
I go back to work right now
and start my police academy
-to Beverly Hills PD and--
-You're gonna become a police officer.
Yes, you know, I think
that's the one part in my life
I need to give something back
for the United States.
-[Ariel] Wow.
-And I go do that.
Wow! Well, look out on the streets of L.A.
If you're a police officer, I don't think
anyone's gonna wanna mess with you.
Does that mean this is your last fight?
No, that's not my last fight.
I keep working,
I keep doing something hard.
And we'll see next time
and next event
and Most Valuable Promotions, we'll see.
I need to say thank you for Nakisa
to give me that opportunity.
For my opponent, you know,
take the fight in a couple days
and come to doing the show with me,
you know, he's a big legend
in UFC, nobody give the respect
for this man,
but it's not everybody
can come inside here
in short time and doing this, you know?
And I need to say thank you
for my opponent.
Thank you so much, Tyron.
I wanna ask him a question in a moment,
but I do wanna ask you,
who do you want next then?
Give us a name,
who's next for Anderson Silva?
Well, somebody tell me,
"so you're Spider-Man,
who's your Venom?"
And my Venom is Chris Weidman.
Chris, I know you hurt your arm.
I know you hurt your arm, bro,
and I'm waiting
for you to stay better.
And let's go do the show, you know?
Let's go show how the
I mean, ex-UFC fighters
can do a good job in boxing.
Respect the boxing community,
that's more important.
I'm waiting for you, Chris, all right?
See you, buddy.
Say hi to your family. God bless you.
I would love to see that.
Nakisa Bidarian is the man
who can make that fight.
Do you like that fight?
That was the original fight for November.
First of all, I wanna say thank you
to Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley.
Can we hear it
for these two legends, please?
[crowd cheering, applauding]
Anderson Silva is the GOAT of MMA,
but Tyron Woodley is the G of MMA.
He took this fight on three weeks' notice
when many of the big names
in MMA were afraid to step
in the ring against Anderson Silva.
So can we hear it
for Tyron Woodley, please?
[crowd cheering]
And if I could quickly
ask Tyron a question.
Tyron, tell us how you're feeling.
Obviously, you know, I'm used to like MMA.
We go out on our shield
and I was yelling at my coach,
but they made the right call.
At the end of the day, you know,
I had a whole different game plan.
I threw so many damn punches
in training camp
to be able to go out there
and do what I needed to do.
But I want to thank MVP
for giving me the opportunity.
Anderson Silva's a legend.
All my coaches that came
out of Costa Rica, all over the place,
to get me ready to train.
All the people that made it possible
for me to do this
at such short notice.
FanDuel, Carnivore Snax,
Dude Wipes, Form Energy.
Everybody that put it in time.
I appreciate it.
This is not what I expected.
I expected to win.
I expected to get the knockout.
And, you know, I'm not done.
I feel like now I'm just going
to use this to keep training,
stay in shape,
and then, you know
I'm not the last minute dude
to call for the fights.
So give me some fucking notice
and let me get ready to fight somebody.
I was ready for this fight.
I was in shape for this fight.
But I don't want to be the guy
that everybody think is the last minute.
Well, we appreciate that very much.
And you are 100 percent correct
when you say that.
Miami, please show some love
to these two legends, Tyron Woodley
and Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
[Mauro] Anderson Silva continues
to have Father Time in handcuffs.
That's why I said it.
He's a future police officer.
And Anderson Silva, I'll be long gone,
but I have a feeling
that Anderson Silva will be competing
as a 100-year-old.
Coming up in our co-main event,
Unified Super Featherweight Championship.
Three-belt champion Alycia Baumgardner
defending her title
against Leila Beaudoin.
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] And then coming up later tonight,
much talked about main event
that none of us ever thought
we'd be talking about,
but it's going down,
Jake Paul against Anthony Joshua.
Jake, we have been here before, my friend.
But this one does feel,
at least to me, a little different.
Does it feel different for you?
Yeah, it's definitely
a little bit different.
This is the toughest challenge
of my career,
the biggest test
of my career, toughest opponent,
Olympic gold medalist,
one of the best heavyweights ever.
So it does feel a little bit different.
There's nerves.
This is as big as it gets
and as tough as it gets.
But I love rising to occasions,
and I love challenging myself
and stepping outside
of the comfort zone.
And that's what I'm doing here today.
[Ariel] I notice you're listening
to something. What are you listening to?
I'm listening to meditation music,
just staying calm,
keeping the heart rate low.
And when the bell rings,
I'll be ready to turn it up.
[Ariel] In your opinion,
what is the key
to actually beating Anthony Joshua
from a game plan standpoint?
Yeah, I mean,
I think it's frustrating him.
Oh, shit. Oh, Tyron's hurt. Sorry.
I think it's frustrating him boxing
on the outside
and exposing the fact
that he has a bad defense
and landing my big power shots
that I've hurt people with.
Got to hurt him. Got to put him down.
Got to put him to sleep.
Official prediction,
what are you actually feeling?
You told me yesterday, six, seven,
I wasn't sure
if you were actually being serious.
Yeah, fifth, sixth round knockout.
I'm putting him to sleep.
-[man] Wow.
-Cannot wait.
Jake, good luck. Thank you.
[dramatic music playing]
[Kate] Okay, everybody,
we are two fights down.
We got one more to go before we get
to the fight of the night.
Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua
will square off later
on this evening
in a blockbuster main event.
Lose to Jake Paul,
or even let him go the distance,
and Anthony Joshua's legacy
will be questioned.
Before that, our co-main event sees
Alycia Baumgardner
put her belts on the line
and her star power to the test.
Next up, two women who are fearless,
ferocious, and more than ready to fight.
[upbeat music playing]
[Ice T] They say that boxing
is 90 percent mental,
but the truth be told,
the sweet science
doesn't waste time with math.
You can't measure toughness
or count confidence.
There are no stats for grinding,
for putting in the work.
To reach the biggest stage in boxing,
Alycia Baumgardner
and Leila Beaudoin
have beaten the proverbial odds,
overcome stereotypes,
and absorbed every blow
that's come their way.
Alycia Baumgardner emerged
from the cornfields of Ohio,
a small-town girl who wrestled
against boys, cloaked in the armor
of a supportive family.
[commentator] And look at Alycia.
She's going for the gusto right here!
[Ice T] Her late father
was her first boxing coach,
and as The Bomb has collected
one title after another,
she's proven his unwavering belief
in her correct.
I know I'm faster. I know I'm stronger.
I know my athletic ability
is better than hers.
[Ice T] Leila Beaudoin raced
down the ski slopes of Quebec,
until she found the boxing ring
to be her home away from home,
winning a national championship
and an international title.
[Leila] I deserve to be here
because I'm a great fighter.
They might not know me now,
but they will. [chuckles]
[Ice T] Two battle-tested warriors.
Twelve three-minute rounds.
She's never been in the ring
with somebody like me,
I'm gonna give
a real good seasoned ass-whooping.
I'm very excited
to punch Alycia in the face.
[Ice T] Maybe you can
measure toughness after all.
[Kate] We're here in Miami
under the bright lights.
We are ready
for our co-main event, everybody.
Alycia Baumgardner against Leila Beaudoin.
America versus Canada
for the Unified Super Featherweight
Championship of the World.
Very warm welcome inside Kaseya Center.
Good to have you with us. I'm Kate Scott.
Three Hall of Famers with me tonight,
Laila Ali, Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis.
We want to talk about our co-main
and why it's such a game changer.
Normally, women's title fights
are ten rounds of two minutes each,
but as demanded
by Alycia Baumgardner in this fight,
this one is gonna be fought
under the men's championship rules.
What does that mean?
It means 12 three-minute rounds,
which could see this fight
potentially go from 20 minutes of action
to 36 if it goes the distance.
So, it's a potential 80 percent increase.
It represents a push
for equal opportunities
and compensation in women's boxing,
which is so very important
to Alycia Baumgardner
that she surrendered one of her belts
to compete under these rules tonight.
What that tells me
is just how serious this is to Alycia.
There are other female fighters
who feel the same as well,
Claressa Shields, Amanda Serrano.
Do you think that two-minute rounds
are hindering equality in women's boxing?
[Laila] Not necessarily,
but I can definitely see
why women would wanna fight
three-minute rounds.
I did. You know, and during my era,
we were just trying to get basic respect.
You know, people were still wondering
why we were fighting.
So, if these ladies feel like
they wanna fight three-minute rounds
-and they're ready to--
-[Kate] But why did you want it?
[Laila] Because it gives us
more time to get the job done, right?
It's the same reason that men fight.
Why wouldn't we do it?
If the men are fighting three,
why aren't we fighting three?
So, we wanna be looked at equally.
Some of us feel
that we need to fight equally.
[Kate] Do you think
that three-minute rounds, Lennox,
does that make for better fights?
[Lennox] Still better fights.
You know, it gives you time to,
uh, get more punches in there.
It gives you more time to get, uh--
make sure that your opponent is fit
and a stamina race.
You know, if you're in better, uh,
shape than your opponent,
then you're gonna do better.
So, it forces you to get
into better shape as a girl.
[Kate] The WBC
obviously feels strongly enough
about women
not fighting three-minute rounds,
that they were willing
to allow their champion
to give up the belt
to lose the undisputed status.
Do you think that they will end up
on the wrong side of this debate, Andre?
Well, they missed out
on a great event tonight.
I love the stance that Baumgardner made.
Any time a fighter can have a vision
and have a belief for their career,
and they stand on it
no matter the consequences, I love it.
So, I appreciate that stance,
and, you know,
I think the ladies should have the option
to fight three minutes or two minutes.
Because when Katie Taylor
and Amanda Serrano
just fought their trilogy, remember,
that was a topic of discussion.
Serrano wanted three.
Katie Taylor said,
"Nah, I think two is enough."
So, I think the option should be there
for all the ladies.
What are most women doing in the gym?
Are they training
and sparring three-minute rounds anyway?
Are most women prepared
to fight three-minute rounds?
It changes athlete to athlete.
I sparred with the guys,
three-minute rounds.
And then of course, closer to the fight,
I would go to two,
because you wanna know
what it's gonna feel like.
But I think
it really just depends on the athlete.
We all train differently,
we eat it differently, all of that.
[Kate] What about the three-minute rounds?
Is that something that's gonna allow us
to see the gulf in class
between two fighters more readily, Lennox?
So, we all think very highly
of Alycia Baumgardner.
Will we see more of a gulf in class
between her and Leila Beaudoin
-because of the three-minute rounds?
-Yeah. Sure.
Because you see their tactics,
you know, what they're planning.
It's, you know--
Most people go in there with a plan A.
Now, they have a chance
to put the plan B into place.
[Kate] Alycia Baumgardner, as I said,
we all think very highly of her.
She just does everything well,
technically very sound.
She moves well, good movement.
What do you wanna see
from her tonight, Andre?
[Andre] She had a--
Her last fight was a good fight,
but she-- sometimes,
Baumgardner gets into this rhythm
of doing the same things fifth,
sixth, seventh round.
I wanna see some variation from her.
If the big right hand, which is one
of her favorite punches, doesn't land,
I wanna see her do
some other things to get the job done
or try to get in the house
another type of way.
Don't just try
to kick the front door down.
You might have to go check a side door,
back door, or even a window.
That's the experience
that I want to see come out tonight.
I enjoy Alycia Baumgardner.
One thing about it, though,
if you're gonna carry yourself
the way that she does,
-you better go out there and back it up.
-Absolutely. I think she will.
I would love to see more head movement.
I don't want to see her get as hit
as much as she does sometimes.
And, yeah, we want to see
The Bomb lay some bombs. Let's go.
[Kate] Yes, let's go.
You know what we also want to do?
We also want to shout out some
of the other groundbreaking women
in boxing history,
one of whom, everybody,
is on the broadcast with us tonight.
Yes, that's right.
Laila Ali did her thing in boxing.
And together, her and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde
became the first women ever
to headline a pay-per-view. Kudos to you.
The first women
to fight 12 three-minute rounds,
that was Layla McCarter
and Donna Biggers, 18 years ago.
Our girl, Layla, dominated
in one generation, in her generation.
Claressa Shields,
two-time Olympic gold medalist, undisputed
in three different weight classes.
She is dominating in this one.
Cecilia Braekhus, the first woman
to ever become undisputed,
and Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano
became the first women headliners
at the mecca of boxing.
Serrano and Taylor's trilogy fight
earlier this year on Netflix,
that was the headline act
on MVP's all-women's card
at Madison Square Garden,
which put a real spotlight
on female fighters.
Ariel Helwani is with the co-founder
and CEO of MVP, Nakisa Bidarian. Ariel.
Thank you very much, Kate.
Nakisa, the crew on the desk,
they're talking about Alycia Baumgardner,
so let's keep that conversation going.
You subscribe to the notion that she has
to do something spectacular in this fight
to sort of get people back on her side
after the performance in July.
I think actually when you look back
at the performance in July,
it was a very impressive performance
against an unorthodox fighter.
And tonight,
she's stepping up doing 12 threes.
Almost 50 percent more ring time
against a very tough Canadian.
-[hip-hop music playing]
-You are also the co-founder of MVP,
which means that you are
the very good friend of one Jake Paul.
You guys have been
on this journey together
for about five years now.
Can you describe the feelings
that you are experiencing right now
as you know that your good friend
is about to make the walk
against Anthony Joshua?
Calm, cool, and collected.
All the hard work has been done.
Now, it's time for him to go in the ring
and do what he's been preparing for.
And he's been thinking about this
since March of this year,
and it's up to him to perform.
And I know Team AJ may pretend
like they're not worried about this,
but 100 percent, they're worried.
Last night, a member of AJ's team
was here to prepare for his walkout.
But instead of focusing on the walkout,
he took a video
of Jake Paul's last warm-up in the ring
and looking at the technique
that Jake was planning to implement
and sent that video to Jak--
to AJ himself.
[Ariel] Fascinating stuff.
I appreciate it, Nakisa.
Thank you so much.
Kate, back to you and the guys.
[Kate] Thank you so much.
Well, speaking of MVP's commitment
to women's boxing,
we've got one of the top female fighters
on their roster here tonight,
Holly Holm in the house.
Combat sport legend.
Uh, yes, she is scheduled, by the way,
for a title bout
in Puerto Rico on January 3rd.
And like tonight's co-main event,
that match will feature
three-minute rounds.
So, we're excited for those ones
that are coming up as well.
Uh, we are in Miami, in Kaseya Center,
looking forward to two more fights.
We've got the co-main to come
with Alycia Baumgardner
and Leila Beaudoin, the Canadian,
against the American.
Well, the other way around.
We're gonna go
to a very quick break, everybody.
We'll be right back with more for you.
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] Friday night in Miami,
Kaseya Center is buzzing
as we are just moments away
from our co-main event.
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] And we will see
Alycia Baumgardner,
the defending Unified Champion,
at 130 pounds, she'll defend
against Canada's own Leila Beaudoin.
They're both 5'6'', and Baumgardner
has a half inch reach advantage.
But in terms of championship experience
and experience overall,
there is a big edge for the champion.
But every underdog might have their day,
for Beaudoin.
We bring in rules expert
and unofficial scorer, Sean Wheelock.
[Wheelock] This bout
is scheduled for 12 rounds.
The Florida Commission is honoring
the request of three-minute rounds
rather than using the female
pro boxing standard two-minute rounds.
If an accidental foul ends the fight,
four rounds must be completed
to consider it official.
[Crystina] And there's a look
at Leila Beaudoin getting ready
to make her ring walk
for her first world title fight.
She's had her eye
on Alycia Baumgardner for years.
This is also her first fight
in the United States.
She got her foundation
as a competitive skier,
which she says will help her footwork
and her strong base.
And she won the Golden Gloves
and the Canadian amateur titles.
["Inferno's Edge" playing]
[music concludes]
[Big Mo] Welcome back,
ladies and gentlemen,
live from the 305, Miami, Florida.
It is now time
for our co-main event of the evening,
12 three-minute rounds
for the Unified
Super Featherweight Championships
of the World.
Introducing first, the challenger,
making her way to the ring,
please welcome Leila Beaudoin!
["Pressure" playing]
[Mauro] Twenty-nine-year-old
Leila Beaudoin representing
the true north, strong and free,
fighting out of Quebec,
the 29-year-old fighting
for the first time on US soil.
First time fighting 12 rounds,
three minutes per round contest.
Three minutes for a girl
who likes to play chess and set traps,
well, that will definitely give her
more time,
and she comes into tonight's fight
riding the most emphatic victory
of her career, a six-round stoppage
of common opponent, Elhem Mekhaled,
whom Baumgardner outpointed.
It was only the second knockout
of Beaudoin's career,
but over her last two fights,
we have seen her become a sniper.
She's landed 11 of 39 punches per round
with a 41-percent power connect rate.
But again,
she's never faced anyone the level
of Alycia "The Bomb" Baumgardner.
She is looking to become Canada's
second active female world champion,
joining 105-pound title holder,
Kim Clavel.
[Crystina] And the champ tonight looking
every bit of a million dollars
as she is iced out.
And Alycia Baumgardner
didn't stumble into boxing.
She was born into it.
She's made for moments like this.
Tonight, she will be defending her
Unified Super Featherweight Championship
in her fifth world title defense.
And she hasn't lost
in her last 11 fights since 2018.
["Dark Rebellion" playing]
-[music concludes]
-[crowd cheering]
[Big Mo] And now,
the defending world champion,
here is
Alycia Baumgardner!
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] The 31-year-old
defending champion.
Baumgardner didn't enter boxing,
she was born into it.
Wrestling at four, boxing at eight
under her late father Mario's eye.
The Bomb mixes movement and muscle.
She can box, she can brawl.
A fast twitch counter-puncher
with real knockout power at 130.
Just ask Terry Harper.
One mistake and The Bomb explodes.
Beyond the ring,
she models, teaches self-defense,
and gives back to the community.
And although Baumgardner and Beaudoin
are close in age and pro experience,
the gap in pedigree is staggering.
Baumgardner's 6-0
with one no-contest in world title fights.
She has faced five world-class opponents
and logged 58 championship rounds.
Beaudoin, tonight is her first.
Experience isn't just an edge.
it's the storyline.
And David, when you look at this fight,
it really is explosive power
versus calculated precision.
Baumgardner's speed and strength
against Beaudoin's rhythm,
-volume, and tactical traps.
-[David] It surely is.
Alycia needs to just be herself.
Last time out,
she was a little bit labored.
You know, new coach, Hunter.
This time around,
I think it's gonna gel a lot more.
It was a labored points decision.
She gave herself a B.
This time, she's looking for an A-plus.
[Mauro] Yeah, second fight working
with the 2023 Trainer of the Year,
Derrick James,
who's known for his calm demeanor,
methodical training style.
He's worked with top-tier fighters,
including Errol Spence Jr.,
Jermell Charlo, Ryan Garcia,
and Frank Martin.
And for Baumgardner,
she is at her best, offense-first,
explosive, athletic, and confident.
And a class act. Look at that.
Beautifully done.
Let's go to Big Mo
for the official introductions.
And now, ladies and gentlemen,
live from the 305, Miami, Florida,
and live all around the world on Netflix.
This is your co-main event of the evening.
Twelve three-minute rounds
for the IBF, WBA and WBO
Unified Super Featherweight Championship
of the World.
Promoted by Nakisa Bidarian
and Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
Our three judges scoring
this bout at ringside,
David De Jonge, Efrain Lebron,
and Steve Weisfeld.
Our timekeeper, Rick Villazon,
and our supervisors in charge
for the WBO, Michael Perdick.
For the IBF, Pete Podgorski.
And for the WBA, Kina Malpartida.
And our referee in charge
when the bell rings is Alicia Collins.
And now, ladies and gentlemen,
two warriors, one fight,
who wants it more?
Introducing first,
fighting out of the red corner.
The Challenger.
Wearing the flamed trunk with orange trim.
She stands five feet, six inches tall.
She weighed in at 130 pounds even.
Tonight, she enters the ring
with a near perfect professional record
of 13 victories, opposite just one defeat,
with two of those wins
coming by way of a knockout.
And she fights out of Tmiscouata,
Quebec, Canada,
introducing the highly ranked contender,
Leila Beaudoin.
[crowd cheering, applauding]
[Big Mo] And now her opponent.
The defending world champion
wearing the light purple trunks
with black trim.
She stands five feet, six inches tall.
She weighed in at 129.2 pounds.
Tonight, she enters the ring
with a near perfect professional record
of 16 victories versus just one defeat
and one no-contest
with seven of those wins
coming by way of knockout.
And she fights out of Dallas, Texas,
by way of Fremont, Ohio, USA.
Ladies and gentlemen,
she is the current, the reigning,
the defending IBF, WBA, and WBO
Unified Super Featherweight Champion
of the World.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Alycia "The Bomb"
Baumgardner.
[crowd cheering, applauding]
[man] All the best.
All right, ladies, you received
your instructions in the dressing room.
Obey my commands,
protect yourself at all times.
She's good here and up,
and you are good here and up.
Go ahead and touch them up, ladies.
[Mauro] Good to see
all three particulars in the ring female.
The referee, Alicia Collins.
Alycia Baumgardner, Leila Beaudoin.
Baumgardner has 100 pro rounds
under her belt,
for Beaudoin, 88 pro rounds.
This is for the title.
Contested over 12 three-minute rounds.
The lone reason why Baumgardner
is not undisputed is because the WBC needs
-to catch up with the times.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] And we begin round number one
and immediately Beaudoin puts the jab
in the face of Baumgardner,
already going to the body
with the jab. And for Baumgardner,
she's at her best when she delivers
everything behind the jab
and we've seen her,
when she's at her best,
delivering explosive short bursts
of offense.
[David] She puts her punches together
beautifully when she wants to.
She's got to set it up
with that nice jab, that nice stiff jab,
she's got the good foot positioning,
always looking to counter,
always looking to put some spice
on all of her punches.
[Mauro] And, of course,
Crystina, aggression cuts both ways
if she overreaches
or hunts the knockout too early,
a savvy counter-puncher
can find clean openings
-and make her pay.
-[Crystina] And Beaudoin has that ability
to do so. She's trained
for these three-minute rounds
by increasing her punch output.
We saw that in her last fight
against Mekhaled, as you mentioned
she actually was able to stop her.
Unlike Alycia,
who went the distance with her,
she knocked her down
three times in that fight,
and is coming into this fight
against the Canadian
with some really good momentum behind her.
[Mauro] Both of them
have avenged their long losses,
and Beaudoin representing Quebec,
long been the heartbeat
of Canadian boxing,
producing champions known
as much for their flair
as their toughness.
We're talking about Kim Clavel,
Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute,
David Lemieux, Adonis Stevenson,
Artur Beterbiev, and the late,
great all-action hero,
Arturo "Thunder" Gatti.
And we are at
the midway point of round one
and very much a tactical start.
And of course, with three-minute rounds,
you get that extra minute
to do your work
so you don't have to be as rushed.
And again,
there's many points for and against,
but Katie Taylor,
one of the greatest female fighters
of all time, prefers the two minutes.
People like Baumgardner and Amanda Serrano
would like to have equality.
And we know Laila Ali
is a big proponent of that as well.
And it was 61 years ago,
right here in this town,
where Laila's dad, Muhammad Ali,
scored the seismic upset
of Sonny Liston in their first fight.
Can we see a seismic upset coming tonight
in the main event?
And even here, Beaudoin beats Baumgardner.
-That's a huge upset.
-[Crystina] Oh, for sure.
The disparity in experience level
at the championship level is huge.
So it would, without a doubt,
Mauro, be a huge upset
if Leila Beaudoin was able
to pull this off tonight.
But so far, the champ
is off to a really good start.
-[David] And these--
-[Mauro] Sorry, David, go ahead.
[David] These three-minute rounds
allows each fighter
to really set things up.
It's not a rush, it's not a sprint.
They're able to really pick their punches
and set things up.
It makes the fight
a lot more artistic for me.
[Mauro] There's a gulf in terms
of the quality of the experience,
but they are similar in so many ways.
Both have been averaging
39 punches a round,
which if you extend it
to the three-minute weight cla--
three-minute distance,
it's over 50 punches a round.
And in this fight, even though
now we're in the first of three rounds,
the champion, Baumgardner, three of 30,
the challenger, Beaudoin, seven of 35.
So again, things
-[bell ringing]
-percolating in this title fight.
[hip-hop music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[Mauro] And there he is,
the Duke of Disruption.
Jake Paul has conquered everything
he has set his eyes on,
and he has changed the way
we do business in the sport of boxing.
Twenty-eight years of age.
In just his 14th professional fight,
he is taking on a guy
who's an Olympic gold medalist,
a former two-time heavyweight champion,
the British brick house Anthony Joshua,
looking for his 26th KO,
while Jake Paul has said that tonight,
we will see the greatest upset
in sports history.
And the guy responsible
for one of the biggest upsets
in boxing history,
James "Buster" Douglas,
he said, "Yeah, Jake Paul's got a chance."
I'm just saying.
[David] If Buster Douglas said it,
you know,
he shocked the world with Tyson.
[Mauro] And, of course,
Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson in his,
well, second-to-last fight.
He beat Julio Csar Chvez Jr.
And there are those,
of course, that say, wait a minute,
Jake Paul was unable to knock out
a 58-year-old version of Mike Tyson.
What's he gonna do against a 36-year-old?
Anthony Joshua still very much,
despite coming off of knockout loss,
one of the most dangerous punchers
in the division.
And here, let's focus again
on this championship fight.
In terms
of the way Baumgardner's starting,
Crystina, what do you like
and what do you want to see more of
at this point?
[Crystina] I like that
she's taking her time, three-minute rounds
like we talked about
for the first time, 12 rounds.
But I would like her
to get a little busier
because I think Beaudoin
is initiating more of the activity here,
especially doubling
and tripling up on that jab.
I'd like to see Alycia
be first a few times.
But credit to Beaudoin for staying busy.
[David] Maybe some sharp counters.
Maybe some sharp counters
will come in nicely.
She's stepping back out of range.
But I like how they're both easing
into the fight,
usually with the female fighters,
it's a rush from the first round
because there's two minutes
for that round,
but it allows the action
to really start building nicely.
[Crystina] But I think that's also kind of
the knock on why the proponent,
the people that don't like
three-minute rounds, they say,
we like how quickly they got to get
to work in the two-minute rounds.
We like that pace.
And this extra round is just going
to slow out the action.
So I know it depends.
Each fighter has their preference,
but a lot of viewers like the speed
of those two-minute rounds.
[Mauro] Mauro Ranallo
alongside Crystina Poncher
and former cruiserweight
and heavyweight champion David Haye.
David, you have the championship pedigree,
and Alycia Baumgardner
wants to continue her reign as champion.
Beautiful one-two,
splitting the guard of Beaudoin.
And, I mean, Alycia Baumgardner
has a chance
to really be a big crossover star
with everything else
she's doing in her career.
[David] She already is.
You know, she's really making waves
all over the world.
You know, everyone
in the UK is speaking about her.
Everyone, obviously, in the States,
it's because she puts on
these boxing clinics.
You've been seeing the clean shots
right down the middle.
-She seems calm under fire as well.
-[Mauro] Final minute of the second round.
There again, they're similar
in terms of output.
They're similar in terms
of throwing punches.
And yet, Baumgardner has the three belts.
Final 30 seconds are upon us,
and there's a right hand
that lands for Baumgardner.
[Crystina] That's the shot
that she's looking for.
She would love to set it up off a feint
or off a jab, like you see her kind of
almost jab step,
almost like to use a basketball reference
with that lead foot
to kind of feint her in,
but she'd love
to land that overhand right.
That's her best punch.
[David] Agreed.
I can feel
in this fight versus her last fight
in July against Miranda that she
She's really easing into it
and she's picking her punches a lot more
-and not getting caught with anything.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] All right, let's check
in with Sibley Scoles.
We are back ringside
with some of the star faces
that you will see for NFL Christmas.
We got Bert, Michael Irvin, Kay Adams,
Brandon Marshall in the building.
-We're ringside. How we feeling?
-Oh, we're feeling great.
This is great. Great event here in Miami.
So I get to be in Miami with the crew
and then tomorrow morning fly
with Miami
and watch the U go do their thing.
This is not about college football.
This is about the NFL.
It's about boxing, right?
It's about boxing.
It's about boxing.
-[overlapping chatter]
-But you gotta throw
that U up in there too.
Who do we have for the main event?
Jake or Joshua?
-Anthony Joshua. Eddie Hearn, I love you.
-[Sibley] Anthony Joshua.
Jake, I'm an underdog.
I'm not a Cowboy. I'm a Bronco.
I'm an underdog.
There's so much greatness in this
because Jake gets the chance
to prove who he is,
and Joshua has to stand up
for the whole boxing community.
Every real boxer has said, Joshua,
you got to knock this joker out.
We gotta-- This is going to be fun.
Watch them. NFL Gameday.
You guys have on NFL Christmas.
It's a mosh pit
on Christmas Day on Netflix.
NFL Christmas. We'll see you.
Have fun, guys.
All right. Thank you. Thank you.
[Mauro] The most revealing part
of that interview
was what was not revealed.
Bert Kreischer's wearing a shirt?
[Crystina laughs] A loud one.
[Mauro] Round number three
here of this championship fight.
Great to see my broadcasting brother,
Brandon Marshall,
being a part of the festivities.
On Christmas Day, Kay Adams might want
to get hazard pay working
with all of that crew,
but Baumgardner continues
to work here against Beaudoin.
And our unofficial scorecard belongs
to Sean Wheelock.
He has it even, and I very much agree
with what's happening here
in this fight thus far.
Beaudoin trying to use lateral movement,
but gets hit
with the right hand from the champion.
[David] All of the clean punches
coming from Alycia.
The noteworthy punches
that are making it-- having an effect.
[Crystina] I thought I'd see
more punch output
from Leila Beaudoin,
to be honest with you.
When we spoke with her,
she said that she's going
to try to overwhelm Alycia.
She knows that Baumgardner is going
to try to pick her shots more,
so she felt
like her chance was to be busier.
I'm not seeing her
that much busier tonight.
[Mauro] Same could be said
about the champion
and we saw it in her last fight
at Madison Square Garden
where she gave herself a B
and it wasn't the most--
It was a bit of a sluggish performance
by Baumgardner, and again,
she is the champion.
She is dictating the terms
but I think we've--
I think everyone would like
to see an uptick in offense here
over three-minute rounds.
[David] I think because
she's counting so crisply.
[David] Leila isn't able to throw
the volume of punches she wants to.
It's all good and well said,
I'm going to put the pressure on,
but when you do throw a jab
and get counted hard,
you start thinking about it twice.
[Mauro] It's interesting, though,
they're averaging the same amount
of punches thrown in three minutes
than they were in two minutes.
-[David] Yeah, very interesting.
-[Mauro] Final minute of the third.
[Crystina] Oh, nice jab.
[Mauro] There's a right jab
and the right hand by Beaudoin,
but countered by the champion.
Forty-five seconds left in the third.
[Crystina] And it's that right hand
that I was talking about was the weapon
for Baumgardner that looks like
starting to cause some swelling,
Mauro, underneath that left eye
of Beaudoin.
[Mauro] Yeah, and Beaudoin
and Baumgardner
not utilizing the body shots
a lot in this fight,
but body punching made up 29%
of Baumgardner's connects,
according to CompuBox,
which is identical
to the CompuBox average
and almost perfectly mirrored
by Beaudoin.
[Crystina] And if Beaudoin keeps
leaning forward like that,
she's primed for a Baumgardner uppercut.
She's got to be really careful leaning
over that front foot.
Listen for that bell, ladies.
[bell ringing]
-[crowd cheering, applauding]
-[upbeat music playing]
[Mauro] Kaseya Center in Miami filling up.
Main event still to come,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
-[upbeat music continues playing]
-[crowd chatter]
[indistinct announcement over speakers]
[inaudible]
[Mauro] All the celebrities in attendance.
Oh, Bert's about to take off his shirt!
Free Bert!
-[crowd chatter]
-[upbeat music continues playing]
-[speaking in French]
-[whistle blowing]
[speaking in French]
[in English] Let's go.
-[Mauro] Referee Alicia Collins
-[bell rings]
firm grasp on the proceedings.
Get her out of there!
Well, let's see
if the champion or challenger
can get their opponent out of there.
Beaudoin's only got two knockouts
in her 13 wins,
while Baumgardner has seven KOs
in her 16 victories, and, uh
Again, always hard to get a knockout,
especially when you're looking
for it, David.
[David] But these three-minute rounds
really do help,
having that additional minute around
really does allow you
to pick your punches
and break people down.
[Crystina] Right now, I feel like Beaudoin
is thinking a little bit too much.
She's not allowing her punches
to be fluid.
I think she's having a hard time trying
to get inside that jab
of Baumgardner,
and that right hand has been a problem.
So I think that she just needs
to settle in a little bit more,
get back to maybe what she was doing
a little more in the first round.
Usually, we see a fighter loosen up
as the fight goes on,
but I feel like she's just
a little more tense right now
than she was
in the beginning of this fight.
[David] Thing is,
because she's taken so many shots,
she's been eating up that right hand,
so it's-- so she's trying--
trying to defend, trying
to keep her hands up
and trying to stop that swelling
under her left eye.
Hands are free! Her hands are free!
Stop, stop.
[overlapping speech]
Please. Thank you. Okay.
Come on.
[Mauro] Always nice
when someone says, "Thank you."
A minute forty left in the fourth.
And definitely
Muted offense here
in round number four.
Both of them have landed four punches.
Both of them have thrown 26.
And we're midway through the fourth.
And there you see
Baumgardner measuring the distance
and then trying
to unload with the right hand.
Lands the left and then pushes Beaudoin
down to the canvas.
There will not be a knockdown.
Even though she was knocked down.
Not legally.
A lot of punishment already
on the face of Leila Beaudoin.
[David] Beaudoin looks
a little sorry for herself.
I looked at her face there.
She looked like she was about
to start crying.
[Mauro]
Under a minute left here in the fourth.
Baumgardner looking for the jab.
Very calculated.
Beaudoin going downstairs
and then clinching.
[Crystina]
I saw the same thing you saw, David.
I don't like the body language
and the facial expression.
[David] The facial expression.
Her bottom lip started going, quivering.
Maybe she's just very frustrated.
Everything she planned in her mind
in training camp isn't working out.
[Mauro] Well, there's a reason
Alycia Baumgardner considered
one of the best, period. Full stop.
For all intents and purposes,
still undisputed at 130 pounds.
And she is doing a good job
of keeping Beaudoin at bay.
-[David] With or without the WBC title
-[bell rings]
she is undisputably number one.
[rap music playing]
Breathe. Where it go? Where it go?
Listen, listen.
You want to let yourself go
a little bit lower?
-That's-- I'm working to give it to her.
-All right, all right, all right.
[speaking indistinctly]
Go, go, go, go up.
And you're going to chop,
chop, chop a little bit more.
At the same time, remember this,
you were working too high that round.
Break down. Arms go down,
you see that jab go into her eyes?
You see that jab?
You got something in your eye?
No, I got it.
[Mauro] Derek James, delivering
instructions to the champion, Baumgardner,
who has held championship hardware
as we get ready for round five
since shocking Terri Harper
in 2021, the 2021 Knockout of the Year
a devastating right hand
that stunned Terri Harper,
leading to a fourth-round stoppage,
the last time
she recorded a knockout, by the way.
But she won two more belts
via split decision
against Mikaela Mayer in 2022,
and she hit another high
by outboxing
common opponent Elhem Mekhaled,
who she dropped twice
in 2023
to become the undisputed
130-pound champion.
And that swelling around the left eye
of Beaudoin becoming a concern.
[Crystina] And what is--
[Mauro]
Oh, nice counter right hand by Beaudoin.
[Crystina] And what does Derrick James
tell Alycia Baumgardner to do?
"Keep that jab in her face."
"Keep peppering her eyes with your jab."
He sees what we see too,
and she's getting visibly frustrated,
finding a hard time to get in.
And Alycia Baumgardner is doing
a great job of making Beaudoin miss
-and making her pay.
-[David] She really is.
She seems in complete control
at the moment.
The extra 16 minutes of fight action
really makes a difference here.
[crowd chatter]
[speaking indistinctly]
[Mauro] Referee instructing them
to fight out of it.
Always good to see. Give them a chance
to fight out of the clinch.
They're not really doing it, though.
They're landing punches, but finally,
the referee has to intervene.
And now, swelling under both eyes
of Leila Beaudoin.
[Crystina] And the champ doing
the right thing there,
guys, in the clinch,
continuing to work,
continuing to tag the body
until Alicia Collins gets
in there, break 'em up.
That was her experience
showing right there.
[David]
Well, work until the referee says break.
-[Crystina] Absolutely.
-[David] She had a free hand.
[Mauro] Doing a good job
of splitting Beaudoin's guard.
A minute left here in the fifth.
Nice left hook, short left hook,
lands upstairs for the champion.
And for Beaudoin, the fatigue,
and I believe you're right,
the frustration, the mental battle.
She's losing all of them,
but it definitely seems
to me that she is leaning in more.
Don't hold her! Let her go!
[Mauro] And, I mean, the referee saying
to work, and wow, that uppercut,
jacking the jaw, Beaudoin.
But you wonder how much fight is left
in the Canadian challenger, David.
[David] The body language
is not looking good here.
She's really she's looking very sorry
for herself in there.
She needs to go for a walk and,
you know, try and gather herself.
Eating the left hook there.
[Crystina] Yeah, her knees actually
buckled a little bit on that shot as well,
so, seems like a matter of time, here.
Stop, stop, stop. Two seconds.
Let go.
[David] Maybe this amount
of damage wouldn't have been there
-to be had
-[bell ringing]
if it was only a two-minute round.
Having an extra minute allowed for
[Mauro] They're going to be sitting
on their stools in the corner.
And speaking of stools,
the Barstool podcasts joining Netflix
in early 2026 include Pardon My Take,
The Ryen Russillo Show,
Spittin' Chiclets.
And there he is, Dave Portnoy,
the president of Barstool.
Video podcast episodes will launch
on Netflix in early 2026
in the U.S. with more markets to follow.
And I hope Mr. Portnoy will one day
do a review of Ranallo's Pizza.
I know he's a big pizza critic.
-[upbeat music playing]
-[crowd chatter]
[speaking in French]
[interpreter, in English]
We're getting there. We're getting there.
We're starting to crush her energy.
-[whistle blowing]
-It's your fight. You're gonna win.
[Mauro] Well, the trainer is seeing
a different fight than we are,
Samuel Dcarie, which I'm sure
is just trying to keep
the fighter motivated,
I don't know if he believes
what he's saying there, David.
[David] He's got to say
whatever he believes his fighter needs
to hear to go out there
and give it everything they've got.
There-- There becomes times during a fight
where things get very dark--
-[Mauro] Gut check!
-You have to get that gut check.
And we've all been there,
every champion has been in this situation
where it's not going your way,
you may have been knocked down,
you may be hurt, body shots, head shots,
but you've got to just
keep on grinding forward.
[Mauro] Nice overhand right
delivered by Beaudoin,
but very comfortable is Baumgardner
with the jab.
She has thrown a hundred punches total
compared to just 67 for the challenger.
She was 17 of 52 in the last round
compared to 11 of 35 for Beaudoin.
Body punches have been few
and far between.
[David] Not many body shots from either.
That I noted.
[Mauro] And they were clipping
at a CompuBox average,
so, below average tonight
with the body shots, Crystina.
[Crystina] And that's a great point
to bring up, because if Alycia sees
what we see
on the face of Beaudoin,
why not start to attack the body?
It doesn't look like she really wants
to be there anymore. She doesn't look
like she wants to be in the fight,
so go down to the body and dig.
[Mauro]
Yep. A minute forty-five left
in the sixth.
There's still fight left in Beaudoin now.
I mean, she seems to have responded
to her trainer, but
Again, you're facing Alycia Baumgardner.
Three belt, unified champion.
She got clipped there, though,
with the left hand from Beaudoin.
But I'm wondering when we're
gonna see Baumgardner change gears.
Or are you content
to continue fighting this way?
[David] I'm content.
This is only round six.
We're not even in the halfway stage yet.
There's plenty of time in a 12-round fight
to break somebody down.
This isn't a ten, two-minute fight.
You know, this is a real championship.
Twelve three-minute rounds.
Plenty of time.
[Mauro] A beautiful combination there
to the body by Alycia Baumgardner.
-[Crystina] There she goes.
-[Mauro] Another right hand to the body.
[David]
I think she must have been hearing that.
-[commentators chuckle]
-[Crystina] I think so.
[Mauro] My voice carries, I guess.
She is hearing all of us.
[Crystina] Either that or we know
a little something about boxing.
[Mauro] A minute left--
under a minute now in the sixth.
[David]
I don't see this fight going the distance.
[Mauro] Well, with the last knockout
as we mentioned
was when she was able to stun
Terri Harper.
Would love to get back to her KO ways.
Under half a minute now,
remaining in the first half
of this unified.
One hundred
and thirty pound championship belt,
the co-feature of Judgment Day.
Right cross just clipped.
Beaudoin, Beaudoin utilizing
lateral movement,
but just playing the cat-and-mouse game,
now smothering her offense.
We are through the first half
of this championship fight.
Smooth sailing for Alycia Baumgardner,
the champ.
[bell rings]
[upbeat music plays]
[speaking in French]
[interpreter, in English]
That's it. That's boxing for you.
Get in there.
[Samuel speaking in French]
[interpreter, in English] You get to--
Give her your--
[Mauro] Anthony Joshua doing
some calisthenics
-[crowd cheering]
-warming up,
coming in under the contract weight.
First time he's ever had to make weight.
He said, "I'll show you!" He came in
at under 245 pounds last time,
he was under 245, was the rematch
with Oleksandr Usyk, lost both fights
against Usyk, and again,
coming off the longest layoff
of his career,
coming off a knockout loss
to Daniel Dubois,
and yet a lucrative payday,
a chance to reintroduce himself
to an American audience,
his American debut,
spoiled by Andy Cruz.
Jake Paul said he's going
to be Andy Cruz 2.0.
We'll find out in the main event
as we go to round seven.
"Andy Ruiz." Did I say Andy Cruz?
That's another fighter.
Thank you, guys. Andy Ruiz.
As we cruise into round seven.
I-- I'm trying to save face,
but man, Joshua did avenge the loss
as he turned into more of a boxer
since that-- that career highlight
against Wladimir Klitschko,
he and Paul both rely on their jabs
and we're going to see here
with Baumgardner
try to establish the jab a little more,
she's just picking apart Leila Beaudoin.
[David] Beaudoin can't get
to grips with the style,
with the speed, with the timing,
everything she does.
-[Mauro] Yes. There's a counter right.
-[David] Occasionally she lands
an overhand right, but it doesn't seem
to have much power on it.
It's right at the end of the shot.
Baumgardner's timing and distance
is perfect here.
[Mauro] The check hook by Baumgardner.
Backing up Beaudoin.
Nice right hand lands for Baumgardner.
[Crystina] Beaudoin trying
to tie in that same right hand,
but just not being able
to find a home for it all night.
I mean, I think even right here,
she could be jabbing,
just trying to get herself
in some sort of a rhythm.
Instead, at least
she's smartly circling away
from that right hand that
has caused her problems from Baumgardner.
[Mauro] And trying to close the gap
and find a way into the inside,
but unable to score effectively.
[David] She's trying,
she's clearly trying her best there.
She's throwing shots,
trying to get into range.
[Mauro] Man, that jab has done
serious damage to her face.
Beginning to look like it was put together
like a ransom note.
Not very pretty right now for Beaudoin.
[Crystina]
And it doesn't even seem that close.
-[Mauro] No.
-[Crystina] But those jabs
[Mauro] Well, the jabs especially.
[David]
Good counterpunch there from Baumgardner.
[Mauro] As we are coming up
on the final minute of the seventh,
there's a right hand upstairs
by Baumgardner,
another lead right hand,
there's a counter right from Beaudoin.
And Baumgardner utilizing footwork now,
resetting.
Lead right hand lands for the champion,
then she clinches.
Nice right hand curl behind the guard
of Beaudoin by Baumgardner.
The rhythm is there for Baumgardner.
[David]
These might not look like big shots,
but those little eight ounce gloves
touching your face,
there's not much padding in it.
That's why her face is starting
to swirl here.
[Mauro] Alycia Baumgardner, 14 of 39,
Beaudoin just four of 34.
In this seventh round,
it's only going to get harder,
it seems, for Beaudoin,
-who digs deep, but it gets countered!
-[bell rings]
Oh, right on-- right before the bell!
Beaudoin went down!
Four! Five! Six!
Seven! Eight! Come to me.
[Mauro] At 02:59 of the seventh round,
Beaudoin goes down
and may have literally been saved
by the bell, so the accumulative damage--
[Mauro] David, you said it,
you did not expect this
to go the distance,
and now we're beginning
to see the evidence.
[David] This is why she was campaigning
for 12 three-minute rounds,
because you don't get the opportunity
to break somebody down.
Some people are too tough
for 20 minutes of action,
-you need 36 minutes.
-[upbeat music playing]
[Crystina] I mean, what a beautiful shot
that Baumgardner was able to land
to cause that knockdown.
It was compact. It was tight.
Beaudoin did not see
that shot coming whatsoever.
She goes to throw a lazy jab,
and Baumgardner, with a smile on her face,
punches her perfectly square in the jaw.
What a beautifully placed shot.
And for Leila Beaudoin,
I do not like what I saw in that corner.
If I'm her trainer,
I'm taking a serious look
at my fighter right now.
[Samuel] Let's go.
[Mauro] Beaudoin was a downhill skier
before boxing.
It's all uphill here tonight.
-And her life also shaped by tragedy.
-[whistle blows]
Her boyfriend committed suicide,
a trauma that she still battles.
And she now fights not only for a belt,
but as a voice for mental health
-and suicide prevention.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] And I say amen to that
and if you or someone you know
is suffering from a mental health crisis
three numbers to know 9-8-8,
round eight.
[David] Baumgardner started this round
with some real mean intent
she started around the clean left hook.
-She knows she can hurt her now.
-[Mauro] Oh, whoa. Whoa.
[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] A stern warning
from referee Alicia Collins.
Are you good? Don't do that again.
[David] Good, firm referee there
on the back. Taking no nonsense.
[Mauro] Firm but fair,
just like Djokovic does.
[David] Exactly.
And Beaudoin, the frustration,
now circling,
at least circling the right way,
avoiding that right hand,
but unable to get anything going.
There was the jab.
[Crystina] And Baumgardner
did the right thing after the knockdown
when she came out of this round.
She started to go right to the body
as she looked to catch her again
-with that little tight check hook.
-[Mauro] Hmm.
Beautiful three-punch combination.
Not all of it, not all the punches scored,
but still beautiful.
Execution there,
a minute 45 left here in the eighth.
[Crystina] And I wonder if in this moment
Leila Beaudoin is contemplating
or regretting, if you will,
taking on three 12 rounds
because she has been beaten pillar to post
and she would have only had two more
should this go the distance.
She's looking at a long time left
if Baumgardner
doesn't get her out of there.
[David] Exactly. You know,
if this was a ten, two-minute fight,
-it would be over already.
-[Crystina] Yes.
[David] And she would have survived.
It doesn't feel like
she's gonna be able to last
another four rounds.
[Mauro]
Baumgardner went downstairs to the body.
There's a one-two.
Lands clean, Beaudoin still trying
to fight, coming forward,
but unable to do anything of consequence,
anything of substance
to try to deter the champion in fear now.
We have arrived at the final minute
of the eighth, and again, just a clinch.
[indistinct chatter]
[Mauro] When would you like to see
an uptick in Baumgardner's offense,
David?
[David] Any time now, I think she needs
to continue what she's doing.
She did it when she started the round
with a crisp left hook,
and she picked up the pace.
She slowed it back down now.
Maybe she doesn't feel
Beaudoin's ready to go yet.
But as you said, there's a long way to go.
There's a long way to go yet.
Nice left hook there,
another checkered by Baumgardner.
I don't want Baumgardner to start
the body assault once again.
[Mauro] She went to the right,
to the body with the right hand there.
Another round.
-Controlled by Alycia Baumgardner.
-[bell ringing]
-The unified 130-pound champion.
-[crowd cheering]
[Alex] It will be the biggest
urban free solo climb ever.
[dramatic music playing]
And being scared doesn't really matter.
[Alex] The only thing you have to worry
about is not falling off.
[music concludes]
[pop music playing]
[speaking in French]
[Martin, in English] All right, come on.
We're gonna get this machine moving.
[Samuel speaking in French]
[Martin, in English]
You got to move fast, speed, right?
[Mauro] It's all about courage
in the face of adversity.
And obviously,
Beaudoin has plenty of that,
but it has been an exercise in futility
in terms of getting anything on track here
in this championship.
-Fight her first opportunity
-[bell ringing]
-at a world championship
-[David] Huge heart.
She's really given it everything
she's got here.
Many, many, many girls
would have just called it quits.
[Crystina] She did a lot of mental work,
guys, to prepare for this fight as well.
She talked to a psychologist.
She did visualization every night.
She listened to a court recordings.
She played out
how the fight was gonna go in her head.
So, she's bringing
some of that mental toughness,
trying to climb up, you know,
out of this hole against Baumgardner.
So, I give her credit for that as well.
She's definitely shown
some mental toughness,
even though you can tell
that she's been outclassed
so far tonight.
[Mauro] There's another
counter left hook upstairs
by Baumgardner
controlling the center of the ring
just pawing the jab just using it
and there's Beaudoin parrying it trying
to catch and shoot.
A minute gone here in the ninth
and watching with vested interest,
of course, the Hall of Famer.
We are honored
to have Laila Ali with us tonight.
Laila, what are you seeing in this fight?
You know what?
I love what I see Alycia doing.
She's taking her time.
She's settling into these three minutes.
You know, she's a technical fighter,
so she's setting it up.
She's breaking Leila down.
Looks to me
like Leila mentally is struggling,
you know, along with physically, right?
I mean, she's in there
with a superior fighter,
but I like what I'm seeing.
[Mauro] Miami near and dear
to the Ali family.
Sixty-one years ago, your dad,
of course, scored the seismic upset
of Sonny Liston, and here we are.
Uh, it doesn't appear that Beaudoin
might be able to repeat.
She's a huge underdog, and she's in time.
[Laila] Yep, and I was actually born
in Miami Beach, Florida,
so I'm excited to be back here,
and, you know, we have a great crowd
and some exciting fights tonight.
[Mauro] We have a Hall of Fame crew
and of course, the great Kate Scott
joining us as well and thank you Leila
for your input.
Just over a minute left here in the ninth
and it's all Alycia Baumgardner.
-Watch, rinse, repeat.
-[David] It really is.
She's really putting a boxing clinic
on here tonight
-in complete control.
-[Crystina] She landed the-- Beaudoin,
a good overhand right, right there,
but right back comes Baumgardner
with the right hand of her own.
[David] Any time Beaudoin
has any type of success,
Alycia just straightaway
lets her know what time it is.
[Mauro] Yes, and Baumgardner
dropped Beaudoin, 02:59 of round seven,
been controlling the fight.
And there's again, one-two textbook,
the left hook from Beaudoin that landed,
under 30 seconds left in the ninth.
[Crystina] And that jab did too,
I mean finding a little bit more offense
here in round nine.
[Mauro] But it's a little.
She needs a lot.
[Crystina] Yeah, she needs--
definitely needs a lot.
Shown a lot of courage out there, though
but I do think that Baumgardner
is really enjoying
having this extra time to work.
Like, I don't see any sense of urgency
in her punch selection,
or her punch output.
She's taking her time picking her apart.
-[bell ringing]
-[David] That's exactly what she wants.
Her style is designed
for this type of fighting.
[upbeat music playing]
[speaking in French]
[Martin, in English] All right, you got
your leg forward, you got your jabs,
-you got your combos.
-[continues in French]
[Martin, in English]
Breathe, breathe deep.
[Samuel continues in French]
[Martin, in English]
Breathe. Breathe well.
[Samuel speaks in French]
[Martin, in English] I want you
to keep keeping your leg forward
with your jab.
You got to keep that leg forward.
All right? Keep the leg planted.
Cover the distance.
Right jab over the top.
And then down under.
-[whistle blows]
-[Martin] Yeah. Duck, then bounce side.
[Mauro] Normally, for a lot
of Women's title fights
this would be the final round,
round ten but not tonight.
-[bell ringing]
-We're doing the men's--
we're doing the equality game my friends
and honestly, yeah,
I think as the desk said,
Andre Ward, I believe, was the one
who said they should have the option.
Uh, I think, I mean,
we're at a stage in life guys,
-[David] The champion should choose
-[Mauro] Yes.
if you're the champion,
you should choose the rounds you fight.
[Mauro] And Baumgardner has chosen
to surrender one of her titles
so she can fight 12 three-minute rounds.
Of course, Amanda Serrano,
a huge advocate of going
the twelve three-minute rounds.
And what a trilogy
between her and Katie Taylor.
And of course, all brought to you by MVP
on what has been another great night
here in Miami still to come.
A main event no one saw coming.
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
scheduled for eight rounds at heavyweight.
This is a 130-pound title fight.
The jab of Baumgardner,
but Beaudoin did land the jab upstairs.
[Crystina] The way that Baumgardner's
landing at a nearly 40% clip
with her power shots, I would like
to see her pick up her activity rate
and kind of step on the gas.
She's landing at will when she wants to,
and it's ready for her.
[Mauro] Playing with your food
can backfire.
[Crystina] A little bit, yes.
[David] Maybe she's not as confident
with these twelve three-minute rounds,
because it's the first time she's
kind of going through the process.
She doesn't know how much she can give.
There's one thing doing it
in sparring twelve rounds,
there's another thing
under the lights
with her small gloves.
so maybe she's just figuring it out
for herself.
[Mauro] And I mean considering this sport
and all combat sports, it is so grueling,
one minute can be a lifetime
that added sixty seconds. It's not easy.
[David] It's a lifetime, sometimes.
One minute can feel like an hour
in there if it's not going your way.
[Mauro] And one punch can change your life
and uh, more and more Beaudoin needs
to land that punch. Nice check
left hook upstairs by Baumgardner.
Goes downstairs to the body
and then clinch.
Final minute of the tenth.
Again, Baumgardner leads
with the left hook.
[Crystina] And Beaudoin landed a couple
of good shots with that lead left-hander.
Down to the body, but everything she does,
Alycia Baumgardner has shown
that she does it better.
[Mauro] Yeah, responds right away
with way more effective shots.
Nice stab-jab to the body.
[David] She has an answer for everything.
-[Mauro] Yeah.
-[Crystina] Yes.
[Mauro] Under half a minute now,
remaining in the tenth.
We're on our way
to the championship rounds,
and Baumgardner
displaying her championship pedigree.
Final fifteen seconds of the round.
Nice three-punch combination,
punctuated by the left hand,
and now Baumgardner beginning
to unload a little bit more,
but Beaudoin still trying valiantly
to fight back.
Side headlock's
not gonna do her any favors.
[bell rings]
[festive music playing]
[narrator] 'Twas the night
before Christmas,
and all through the crib, the stockings
hung proper, the vibe feeling big.
As the snow kept on falling,
the beat started calling.
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
We're about to light up this Christmas
in a real way. Come on in.
[narrator]
Bow-wow-wow, yippie-yo, yippie-yay.
How's that for a halftime snack?
[song concludes]
Everything going Alycia Baumgardner's way.
Even when she misses, like she did
with that right hand right there,
she comes back with a one-two
that connects perfectly.
Two out of three.
I'll take that percentage all night long.
[David] Yeah, she can't miss it tonight.
[indistinct announcement over speakers]
[Mauro] So we're headed
into the championship rounds.
This is round eleven.
Beaudoin comes to the center of the ring,
tries to get her offense going.
Baumgardner able to counter.
Faster, quicker.
[David] I think maybe now
she's gonna start picking up the pace now,
now she's got two rounds to go.
[Mauro]
She'd like to close the show in style.
[David] She would.
She'd like to get a shot.
[Mauro]
And she's known for her knockout punches.
Now, of course,
females, just physically speaking,
they don't get
as many knockouts as the men,
but she is
considered a knockout puncher.
She is, and having
these additional minutes,
these additional rounds,
is gonna make it that much easier,
because she can have the time
to slowly break down her opponents,
to do more damage
in more minutes.
[Crystina] Yeah, it's been a while
since we've seen her get a knockout
back in November 2021,
as you mentioned earlier, Mauro,
-against Terry Harper since then.
-[Mauro] The Knockout of the Year.
[Crystina] Yeah, and really burst
onto the scene after that,
-did she not?
-[Mauro] Yeah.
[Crystina]
It's been all distance fights since then,
but obviously the level
of opposition continues
to increase when
you climb up the ranks as well.
[Mauro]Yes, she landed a beautiful right
hand there, and now going to the body,
just keeping Baudouin.
Baudouin's leaning in on her,
but she's eating a lot of body shots.
Referee breaks them up.
Again, Baumgardner digging to the body.
[Crystina] Alycia-- Excuse me,
Alicia Collins, the referee,
was taking a real good look there too
at Leila Beaudoin's face.
[David] Doesn't look good right now.
[Mauro]
Baumgardner really working that body.
I think she's realized
that's the sweet spot.
That's the one that's having
the most effect.
[Crystina] She told us when we spoke
to her in the fighter meetings,
"I think that Beaudoin is weak
to the body."
"I'm going to make a emphasis
on delivering body shots."
I mean, maybe not as many
as she would have liked to,
but she definitely
has the advantage there.
[Mauro]
Yes, Beaudoin just landed a right hand,
and now she's got another shot upstairs.
Final minute.
The crowd comes to life
as the underdog having a moment
of success there
for the first time in the fight.
And now, Beaudoin going to the body
and Baumgardner
now facing some adversity!
Beaudoin rallying and the crowd
supporting her-- of efforts here
with just over thirty seconds left
in the 11th.
-Finally, Beaudoin comes to life.
-[Crystina] And then took a long walk
-around there David, didn't she? [laughs]
-[David laughs]
After the strength
of that one combination,
I feel like giving her the round
because she hasn't--
Outside of that spell--
[Mauro] But it's been the best punches
in this round.
She's definitely had more success.
This is the first time
we have seen Alycia Baumgardner
in any difficulty at all.
And maybe it was just momentary,
but it did give Beaudoin some confidence
as we are headed
to the 12th and final round
-for the Unified 130-Pound Championship.
-[bell ringing]
-[upbeat music playing]
-[crowd cheering]
Get back on the stick.
If you can go on this side,
what you gotta do is you gotta use
your angles on this side.
You gotta stand right here.
If you wanna work on this side, you gotta
use your angles right at the top.
Then you do
Off the jab, though, to the last line.
Stay composed. Remember, no stick.
This what you've been working for.
[speaks in French]
[Martin in English] All right,
you gotta cover the distance.
Leg work, leg work.
[speaks in French]
[Martin in English]
Two hits, and then swing.
Choose your attacks, okay?
[speaks in French]
[Martin in English] You're here to work,
you're here to win. Get it?
[Crystina] Well, this shot right here
was probably the best shot
that Leila Beaudoin has landed all night
there in the 11th round.
That was clean.
I don't know if it was enough
to cover the whole round,
-but that was solid right there.
-[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] The 12th and final round.
Beaudoin having her best round
in round 11.
But she is trailing,
as far as we're concerned,
by a long distance on the scorecards.
An unofficial scorer Sean Wheelock has.
Alycia Baumgardner up 108 to 100.
So it's looking like Beaudoin's
going to have to summon
her third knockout win,
but you know Alycia Baumgardner
listening to her trainer, Derrick James.
He wants her
to use the jab more, use angles.
[Crystina] That's all
she really needs to do.
This is the first time she's seen round 12
in a three-minute round fight.
All she's gotta do
is jab around the outside and
[Mauro] And whatever's left
in Beaudoin's tank, David,
it's time to just--
I don't want
to say risk getting knocked out,
but you got to go now.
This is it. Under two minutes left.
[David] Specifically in the 11th round,
she had her best round
because she was able to engage
and bring Leila into a trading situation.
[Mauro] You can see
where Alycia Baumgardner contend, okay,
"I've got this fight in the bag,"
as they say, and yet for Beaudoin,
she's got to just let it all go.
And there, counter left hook
upstairs lands.
Baumgardner, two short left hooks.
And yet I wonder,
and you talked about it, Crystina,
do you want to see more from Baumgardner?
Do you want to see her engage
in more offense
or content to put on the clinic
like she's done all night?
[Crystina] I mean,
I'm sure she'll say she's content
to show that she can fight
the same amount of rounds
that the men can,
that she's able to go the distance.
[Mauro] But it's interesting
what Katie Taylor said,
because Amanda Serrano
also went the 12-round distance
when she fought, and Katie said,
"See, you guys are looking
for the knockouts that didn't come."
That's why she prefers
the two-minute rounds.
A minute left in this championship fight.
[Crystina] But I think
there's something mentally to be said
about being able to do it.
[Mauro] How about when Beaudoin
dropped in the seventh?
We thought the fight was almost over,
but man, she's still got some fight left,
but it's just tick-tock goes the clock.
Forty-five seconds now left.
[David] Big heart, absolutely huge heart.
Hasn't given up.
[Mauro] Oh, man,
more heart than Valentine's Day,
but it's Alycia Baumgardner content
to just ride it out here
with 30 seconds left in the fight.
[Crystina] But you can see
that Leila has good technique,
and she has good ability
to throw and pick her punches.
She just didn't do it enough tonight.
And then we see flashes of it like this.
You're like, where was that?
Where was that earlier?
We wanted to see more of that.
I know she had it in her,
but tonight
it was Alycia Baumgardner, pillar to post.
[Mauro] Final ten seconds, and Beaudoin,
fighting with whatever energy
she has left,
and moral victory to go the distance
-against a world-class competitor.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] And the champion,
Alycia Baumgardner. The two embrace.
-They went 12 rounds
-[crowd cheering]
for the Unified 130-pound Championship.
-[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
-[Mauro] And yeah,
you're gonna make me
lose my mind up in here.
God bless DMX!
We will come back
with the official decision.
You're watching Judgment Day on Netflix.
[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[dramatic music playing]
[Mauro] All right,
let's bring in our rules expert
and unofficial scorer, Sean Wheelock.
How do you have it
after 12 rounds, my man?
[Sean] 118-109 to the champion,
Alycia Baumgardner.
I gave Leila Beaudoin round number one,
and then Alycia Baumgardner
really took over.
As I think we all saw,
the power of Leila Beaudoin
narrowly gave her round number 11 for me,
but then Alycia Baumgardner, again,
with the power of her own.
What I saw consistently was starting
in round number two,
the power punches really turned on
in the final minute of every round
for Alycia Baumgardner,
including round number seven,
that ten-eight round for Baumgardner,
where she produced
a low knockdown of this fight.
[Mauro] All right, well, now let's get
the official decision from Big Mo.
[Big Mo] Ladies and gentlemen,
after 12 full championship rounds,
we go to the judges' scorecards
for the official decision.
Judges Efrain LeBron
and Dave De Jonge see it 117 to 110
while Judge Steve Weisfeld sees it
118 to 109
declaring your winner
by unanimous decision
and still the Unified
Super Featherweight Champion of the World,
"The Bomb,"
Alycia Baumgardner!
[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] The champion remains
Alycia "The Bomb" Baumgardner.
And the final stats,
total punches, not even close.
All Alycia Baumgardner.
But a gutsy performance by Leila Beaudoin
in her first title fight,
her first fight on American soil.
She's showcasing that tough,
that grit from Quebec.
And speaking of Quebec, time to go
to a Quebec native, Mr. Ariel Helwani.
Mauro, thank you very much.
Here with the champ, Alycia Baumgardner,
after another spectacular
and dominant performance,
you told us on Wednesday
in July, after your last fight,
you gave yourself a B.
What's your grade for tonight?
Listen, I give myself an A+,
and I first want to say thank you
to my Lord, Savior Christ, Jesus.
Man, listen,
it's been an emotional roller coaster,
keeping my feelings
and my emotions in check.
This win was for my dad,
and I give myself an A+ for showing up.
Can you tell us why it was so emotional?
You know, I buried my dad last year,
and so it's been a hard
just transition period.
But one thing about myself,
I push through.
I believe in myself. I have faith.
And that's why I'm here.
It's about the journey and not the moment.
So I persevere through anything.
[Ariel] Well, again, very dominant,
and it seemed as though midway through,
you were very close to putting her away.
Were you surprised that she hung in there,
and are you disappointed
that you couldn't do that?
No, I'm not disappointed.
It just shows the level of skill.
Man, we did 12 fucking rounds, and listen,
women are doing the damn thing,
so I'm just happy
that I could go the distance,
show my skill, I can box,
I can punch, I can put somebody down,
and I'm just happy
to be here in the moment.
You also had to overcome,
I think, a little adversity
in the 11th round.
-How badly did she hurt you?
-She didn't hurt me at all. Hell, nah.
No.
You looked a little dicey there
for a second, no?
No, listen, I'll be honest.
She did not hurt me,
but it was fun, though.
I enjoyed it, for sure.
What about the three-minute rounds?
Do you want to keep doing that?
Listen, I fucking love it.
Three minutes is made for me.
It's made for my style.
So, listen, Carolina,
want that smoke, big girl?
You better come to three minutes
and get that work.
[Ariel] All right, so you're referring
to Caroline Dubois.
Please look at your crystal ball
for us here for a moment.
Who is next for The Bomb?
Listen, there's a lot of girls lined up.
I know for my next fight,
it looks like a main event,
-so we need that main event fighter.
-[Ariel] Against who?
We don't know yet. MVP knows, though.
[Ariel] All right,
well, we'll leave it at that.
Miami, please give it up
for Alycia "The Bomb" Baumgardner!
[crowd cheering]
[Kate] Welcome back, everybody,
up to our stage position.
We are live on Netflix. I'm Kate Scott.
I'm with the two-weight world champion,
Hall of Famer, Laila Ali.
Good to have you all with us.
Good evening.
We want to talk about the performance
that we just saw.
Obviously, Alycia Baumgardner
giving a big stage tonight.
It was the co-main event, the one
right before the main event on Netflix.
Worldwide audience.
Did she live up to the moment?
[Laila] Absolutely. I'm so proud
of both of those ladies.
They showed some high-level boxing, right?
A lot of people are seeing women's boxing
for the first time.
They fought three-minute rounds
and Alycia is a very technical fighter.
You know. She's also a counter-puncher,
so I saw her waiting a lot.
I would have liked
to have seen her a little more busy,
but this is her first time
fighting three-minute rounds,
12 three-minute rounds.
So you definitely wanna make sure
you have enough gas in your tank.
[Kate] I guess, in some way,
that's kind of the trade-off
with those three-minute rounds, right?
In that if you were watching the prelims,
you would have seen a couple
of wars in those all-female fights.
This one, Alycia had the time
to take her time
and just ride it out
and find the shots that she wanted to.
Give the kind of performance
that is deserving
of a technical fighter like that.
The crowd doesn't enjoy it
as much, though, Leila.
-Is that the trade-off?
-[Laila] You know what, it is what it is.
And I think that this is the first time
that she fought those three-minute rounds.
So I don't wanna always say
that's always gonna be the trade-off.
It's just that we're just starting
to do this now.
So we've seen men
fighting three-minute rounds
for forever, right?
And you've seen some very fast fights
happen, some action happen.
But you have to have that confidence
because you never wanna run out of gas.
I saw that Leila seemed to me to start
kind of losing the mental edge.
She was doing a lot
of meditation and breath work
and all of these things,
which lets me know
that maybe she's a little weak
in that area.
You know what I'm saying?
But it is what it is.
They both put on a great show.
They should both be proud of themselves.
Leila's not gonna be happy.
You know what I mean?
But Alycia
should be very proud of herself.
I know she would have loved
to get the knockout,
but you can't always get the knockout.
-[Kate] But the knockdown though, right?
-[Laila] Yes.
[Kate] We do have one final fight
for you this evening.
It still doesn't quite feel real,
but it is.
After this break, disruptor Jake Paul
will step into the ring
with Olympic gold medalist
and two-time heavyweight champion
of the world, Anthony Joshua.
We are live on Netflix, everybody,
and that fight is next.
-If it's possible. Thank you. Yeah.
-[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
["Stranger Things Main Theme" playing]
[Kate]
Get ready for the final battle to begin.
Stranger Things 5 Volume 2,
premieres on Christmas Day
at 8:00 p.m. Eastern,
with the final episode premiering
on New Year's Eve, only on Netflix.
And now,
here's a word from Dave Chappelle.
Hey, what up, everybody?
I wanted to shout out my hometown,
Washington, D.C.,
and thank everybody that came out
in October to support me at that show.
I just want you to know that show
will be streaming on Netflix tonight
after the fight,
my new special drops,
and I hope you love it.
Thank you very much.
[whispering] A-chika-chikah!
[Kate] Well, you won't want to miss that,
so stick around after the fight.
Jake Paul turned pro five years ago,
with virtually
no amateur boxing experience.
By then, his opponent tonight,
who you're seeing right there,
was already a two-time
heavyweight world champion.
Anthony Joshua is and should be
a heavy favorite in this fight.
But Jake keeps on beating opponents
that he wasn't supposed to,
and he seems to truly believe
that he can win this one as well.
So tonight,
AJ has to show Jake Paul that this time,
he picked the wrong one.
[Ice T] Confidence.
Every successful athlete has it.
And every successful boxer needs it.
-I'm the greatest in the world! [laughs]
-[upbeat music playing]
[Ice T] When Jake Paul
and Anthony Joshua meet tonight,
it won't matter how big their team is
or how many followers
and likes they collect.
They'll be alone with each other.
Every man for himself.
At 22, Anthony Joshua won Olympic gold.
-[commentator] Anthony Joshua!
-[crowd cheering]
[Ice T] Then he claimed the Unified
World Heavyweight Championship.
-[crowd cheering]
-[commentator] World Heavyweight champion!
[Ice T] There aren't many
who have what it takes
to regain the title
immediately after letting it slip away.
[Adam] Redemption for Anthony Joshua.
Now, I'll have to show you
what you're about to deal with.
Welcome to Netflix. [laughs]
I'm Jake Paul.
[Ice T] Jake Paul is as self-assured
as they come,
he chased success on screens of all sizes
[Jake] Congratulations
ten million subscribers.
and emerged with an empire.
Then, he took up a hobby.
[commentator] Oh my God!
[Ice T] Brushed off the doubters,
and in five years built himself
into the most watched boxer on the planet.
[crowd cheering]
[Jake] I'm not scared of him.
I see his weaknesses,
and I'm gonna win.
That's the thing. Like, I'm going to win.
[Ice T] To do what these guys do,
you got to have no doubts.
Work! There you go!
[Ice T] No hesitation, no fear.
[Anthony] I'm gonna inflict a little pain.
I'm training to win by any means,
I'm training to hurt him.
[Jake] I'm willing to do shit
that other people aren't.
I'm just gonna go do something
that everyone thinks is impossible.
[Ice T] If you think you know
what's gonna happen next,
you're probably wrong.
And guess what? At least one
of these guys will be wrong too.
Confidence can only get you so far.
[music concludes]
[epic music playing]
[Kate] Well, we are live in Miami
on Netflix, and just moments away
from the only remaining
fight of the night, tonight's main event,
Jake Paul versus Anthony Joshua.
We have got a packed house here
in the Kaseya Center,
ready to see
how this last fight plays out.
It is so good to have you
with us for this Fight Night.
I'm Kate Scott.
With not one, not two,
but three Hall of Famers.
Laila Ali, Andre Ward, and Lennox Lewis.
We want to talk about the main event.
Let's be honest about it.
Boxing fans want to see Anthony Joshua
go out there and smoke Jake Paul.
How do you want to see
AJ approach this fight, Lennox?
Yeah, I want him to go out there
and use that jab, show Jake Paul
that he's got a great jab,
and that he can't escape from him.
You know that he can run,
but he can't hide.
And the ring's big, but Anthony Joshua
can make that ring small
because of his size, 'cause he's big. So
How many rounds before this gets
to be considered an embarrassment
for Anthony Joshua, Laila?
Oh man, I would say probably
after the fourth round.
I don't believe
that he needs to go in there
and that he needs to try to you know,
knock Jake Paul out in the first round.
You know, but I don't wanna see it
go past three or four.
[Kate] This is a fight
that Jake Paul was calling for.
You've actually called for this fight
as well, against Anthony Joshua.
So, there's something
that you guys are seeing.
What is it that you're seeing?
Where can he be got?
I think what people are seeing
is the punch resistance.
They see him get hurt or knocked out,
but it's not as easy as it looks.
You got to get through those long arms,
that power,
and you got to know
how to get that punch through.
This game plan
for Anthony Joshua tonight is simple.
You need to dominate.
Jake Paul is a COVID baby
in the boxing game.
He started his career in 2020.
Anthony Joshua had
been a multi-time world champion.
The game plan for Anthony Joshua?
Dominate.
[Kate] We've all seen what it looked like
when they faced off at the weigh-in.
The size difference is just enormous.
Weight difference, too.
Jake Paul weighed in at 216.
Anthony Joshua at 243.
Jake is just massively outsized in this.
What kind of fight
does he need to fight, Laila?
[Laila] I mean it's not just
the size difference,
it's the experience, it's the skill,
it's all of that.
But you know, you asked me
what he needs to do in this fight.
He needs to keep his hands up,
he needs to move,
he needs to use his jab,
he needs to use his speed,
and he needs to try to throw
that overhand right
that he says he's gonna land
and knock Joshua out with,
but we will see.
[Kate] Do you consider
Anthony Joshua's career to be on the line
in this fight, Lennox?
[Lennox] Yeah, because he's gotta get rid
of Jake Paul
because Jake Paul feels that
You know, there's something
about Jake Paul right now
that makes him feel really positive.
But when he gets in the ring
and feels a heavyweight punch,
I think that's gonna change,
he's gonna be on his bike.
It's such an interesting fight.
You kind of feel like you have
no idea what's gonna happen,
but you know what is supposed
to happen, Andre.
[Andre] What's supposed to happen
is complete domination by Anthony Joshua.
He's the bigger man.
You go in there and you start
to use that lead hand,
the hand that's closest to Jake Paul,
and you start to let him
feel his power jab.
That's the first punch you should feel.
And then as he's getting occupied
with that jab,
then you come with the big right hand,
which you're known for.
And you send the message early,
that this is the heavyweight division,
I'm an elite fighter, and you're not.
Like Andre said,
Jake Paul had his first pro fight in 2020,
first laced up a glove in like 2017.
There really is no reason that Jake Paul
should have been in this fight
at this stage in his career.
Is it all win from here?
So long as he doesn't get seriously hurt
by Anthony Joshua tonight, is it all win?
[Laila] Hey, we will all take our hats
off to him if he wins.
Jake Paul's a little crazy, but he did say
that he will fight anybody anywhere,
and he's doing it, you know?
So, we will all have to just show him
that respect if he wins.
[Kate] What about if he doesn't win,
but he just gets in?
[Laila] That's what you said?
Yeah, of course, I think so.
But we'll really be looking
at Anthony Joshua with a side eye.
I will.
I'll be like, "Come on, man, what?"
You know,
you might need to rethink some things.
You need to rethink some things
if he doesn't win tonight by knockout.
Laila said Jake Paul is crazy,
you agree, Lennox?
Yeah, I think he's crazy,
but you know, he's taking a bigger risk.
And you know, it's about time,
because he started small,
and he's moved his way
up to the heavyweight.
And now he's gonna see what
a heavyweight fight is like.
[Kate] Do you see any other outcome
for Jake Paul other than losing
by knockout in this fight, Andre?
[Andre]
He has a shot to land a right hand.
Some people say it's not gonna happen.
I get that. I understand that.
But if there is a shot is to land
the big right hand
on Anthony Joshua, takes him light,
and goes to sleep
in the middle of the fight.
All right, let's nail it down.
Give me a prediction.
-Prediction?
-Yes.
That's hard to say
when I'm not in the ring.
But I'm going to tell you, 100%,
Anthony Joshua needs
to knock out Jake Paul.
And I'm not saying I just,
I like Jake Paul. I like what he's doing.
But come on,
he's in there with a heavyweight
with all this experience.
He should not be going the distance.
You're almost taking it personally.
Go on, Andre.
What should happen is Anthony Joshua
by knockout anywhere
between the second and third,
fourth round. Somewhere around there.
Anthony by stoppage,
he's gonna stop Jake Paul for sure.
-When? When?.
-In the second round.
[Kate] He's going early, all right,
he's going early.
Well, Sibley Scoles is somewhere out there
in this madness, in that crowd.
Let's find out who she's with
and what they're talking about.
All right,
more star-studded ringside action.
Rory McIlroy is in the building.
You know what it takes to be a champion.
You are one.
Main event, talk to me
about Jake Paul, Anthony Joshua.
What needs to happen and who's taking it?
Look, I commend Jake
for taking this fight. He's very brave.
Um But, like, I just can't see past AJ.
I mean, the reach advantage,
the height advantage
the experience.
Yeah, look, I'm a big fight fan,
and I just can't see any other result
than an early knockout by Joshua.
There you go. He's calling it right here.
You might be a boxing analyst after this.
-I'll stick to my day job.
-[laughs]
All right, McIlroy, thank you so much.
Have fun.
-Thank you.
-[upbeat music playing]
[Kate] We are inside Kaseya Center,
and it is bumping in here.
Everybody ready for the main event.
Anthony Joshua, two-time
Heavyweight Champion of the World
against Jake Paul. Believe it or not,
it is happening,
and it's happening very soon indeed.
Let's go over to Sibley Scoles again,
who I think is with Logan Paul.
We are backstage now with Logan Paul,
who got the black memo
looking sharp here in Miami.
When are we seeing you again on Netflix,
WWE Raw, what's going down?
Yeah, really all the time.
When are they gonna see me? Every time.
Where are they gonna see me? Everywhere.
Because I'm everywhere,
mostly Monday Night Raw,
every single Monday.
People say I'm a part-timer,
then why am I showing up every Monday?
But Monday Night Raw on Netflix,
you know the drill.
That's all you need to know.
We can drop the mic,
but I'm not going to do that just yet,
because someone that you may know
is going into that ring, main event.
Your brother.
-Any words for Jake?
-I do have words for him.
I'm sorry,
this is not the answer you want,
-I'm going to save them for him.
-Okay.
-You know, but it's nice.
-They're they're special
and I wrote something nice for him
that, I hopefully,
I can I can get in there
before he goes out to battle tonight.
AwLogan! Thank you.
Jake, he's got words for you. Let's go.
All right, Logan Paul, a WWE Superstar.
I've called WWE, I've called MMA,
I've called boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai.
I don't know if I've ever been a part
of an event like this.
It reminds me actually
of being back in Japan,
Pride Fighting Championships,
New Year's Eve events known as Shockwaves.
These are the kind of matchups
they would put together.
and Jake Paul is ready to send shockwaves
throughout the entire Sports World,
the Duke of Disruption,
a prohibitive underdog,
and yet he is putting it all
on the line tonight,
against a Jack Kirby illustration
come to life.
The marble-muscled Anthony Joshua,
who, by the way
Olympic gold medalist and former
two-time heavyweight champion,
coming off the longest layoff
of his career,
and a stunning knockout loss
to Daniel Dubois.
But he knows tonight's not just
about a lucrative payday.
It's about protecting his legacy.
And Crystina Poncher, David Haye,
the former cruiserweight
and heavyweight champion,
joining yours truly,
Mauro Ranallo, here at ringside.
And Crystina, the moment of truth
is almost upon us.
What will ultimately determine the outcome
of this fight, in your estimation?
Well, Mauro, in my estimation,
what will determine the outcome
of this fight
is the first clean punch
that lands, right?
How does Jake Paul respond to getting
punched by a real heavyweight?
And how does Anthony Joshua
respond as well to getting caught
if he does get caught
by a punch from Jake Paul?
Those are the questions I have.
So, when that first clean punch lands,
I think we'll find out a lot.
About how that moment can define the rest
of the fight, should it continue out.
David, what do you think about a guy
like Jake Paul having the audacity,
the Spalding-sized cojones
to step into the ring
-against a guy like Anthony Joshua?
-[David] I love it.
I think it's an amazing thing
for him to test himself.
This is the ultimate challenge,
fighting someone, you know,
6'6, Olympic gold medalist,
two-time heavyweight champion
of the world.
And he's coming in here
with full confidence.
He's got a team.
He's got a strategy.
I was talking to a colleague
earlier on today
and he was saying that he was surprised
at how tough Jake Paul was.
He was landing shots
and he said, "He's a real heavyweight."
He's got strategy, he's tough,
and he's got a big right hand.
If he can land that on Anthony Joshua,
who knows what could happen.
Anthony Joshua was coming into this fight
after 15 months layoff,
after losing his last fight
to Daniel Dubois.
If there's ever a time to pull off
a seismic upset, it's tonight.
And Crystina, there are people
who are saying,
"Wait a minute,
Jake Paul couldn't knock out
the 58-year-old version of Mike Tyson."
"How are we supposed
to expect him to knock out
a 36-year-old British brick house
in Anthony Joshua?"
Well, now, how did we
even get here in the first place?
It's that delusional optimism
that Jake Paul has
that has got him to this point.
And I'm not saying he's gonna be able
to do that tonight,
but everything this man has said
that he has wanted to do,
everything that he has manifested
in his life, he has made come to fruition.
That's why he's here on Netflix
in only his 14th professional fight,
headlining worldwide in front
of millions of people.
If he speaks into existence,
he believes it's possible.
Now, do the rest
of the world believe that?
I'm not too sure about that,
but we're moments away to find out.
But it's obvious that he is bringing
a different crowd to the boxing business.
As I look around
the sold out crowd here in Miami,
a lot of youngsters,
a lot of Gen Z, David,
people who are not used
to watching boxing.
[David] It's the hottest ticket in town.
People who are not
into boxing are here tonight.
They spent thousands on their tickets.
And I'm thinking, Anthony Joshua,
it's not about just a win.
He has to go for the knockout.
The boxer-- The tourneys
demand a knockout of Jake Paul.
Is he going to be rushing his work?
Is he going to be able to take his time
and ease into it? I don't think so.
I don't think his team will want that.
I don't think anybody will want that.
Anthony Joshua is going
to have to try to force the action.
And Jake Paul is going
to be running around the ring.
He's purposely got
a 22-foot ring, a big ring.
He's going to want
to use every inch of this ring
to avoid the big power punches
from Anthony Joshua tonight.
It's going to be very, very intriguing.
[Mauro] Ho, ho, ho.
Will we get a main event KO for Christmas?
We're moments away from finding out
right here on Netflix.
-[crowd chattering]
-[upbeat music playing]
[Kate] It is a beautiful evening here
in Miami and at the Kaseya Center.
We're so close now to the main event.
There are celebs in the house tonight.
Shaggy, "It Wasn't Me."
Remember that one.
It's the only one I know, folks.
Timbaland, four-time Grammy Award winner,
legendary producer,
also in the house for this fight tonight,
waiting for the main event.
We are in Miami. He had to be here.
The boss, Rick Ross, also in the building.
Let's see who else we got in here tonight.
Okay, one of the ladies
that we have to thank
for this fight happening
here on Netflix, Bela Bajaria,
who is the Chief Content Officer
here on Netflix.
Thanks for the opportunity, Bella.
Benny Safdie in the building too,
Hollywood director, sure you know him.
So good to have him with us
in the building tonight as well.
And how about him, Matt Rife,
he's got a big show coming up on Netflix,
Unwrapped: A Christmas Crowd Work Special
so we're looking forward to that one.
Let's see who else-- Oh!
Teofimo Lopez is in the building.
WBO, Ring magazine titles,
a 140 massive fight coming up
at the end of January
against Shakur Stevenson.
Just filling up on the popcorn
before the main event.
Logan Paul, of course he's here,
brother of Jake Paul.
Two disruptors and he will be ringside
for sure for this event.
Rory McIlroy, standout golfer,
won the 2025 Masters
and he's looking forward
to seeing the main event.
I'm sure he'll be supporting
the Brit Anthony Joshua tonight.
Bert Kreischer. Okay, nipples.
[chuckles] All right.
Not sure what to do with that.
He's going to be in D.C.
with Netflix on Christmas Day
for the Commanders against the Cowboys.
And Juan Soto, also in the house,
a player for the New York Mets,
a 2019 World Series champion.
So, the celebs are here.
Let's keep it moving
towards this main event.
The anthems are up next to introduce them.
He is simply the best in the business.
Here is Big Mo.
-Ladies and gentlemen
-[crowd cheering]
it is about that time
to get us set for this main event
and to perform the national anthems
for both of our main eventers.
First, to perform "God Save the King,"
please welcome Skye Bishop.
[crowd cheering]
God save our gracious King
Long live our noble King
God save the King
Send him victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the King
[crowd cheering, applauding]
And now, to perform the national anthem
of the United States of America,
"The Star-Spangled Banner,"
please welcome
multi-platinum singer and songwriter
-from Fifth Harmony, Ally Brooke.
-[crowd cheering]
Oh, say can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hail'd
At the twilight's last gleaming
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming
And the rocket's red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there
O say does
That star-spangled banner
Yet wave
[crowd cheering, applauding]
O'er the land of the free
And the home
-Of the brave?
-[crowd cheering, applauding]
[crowd chanting "USA"]
[crowd cheering]
[Kate] Oh, goodness.
We are ready for the headliner, everybody.
This is a fight that Anthony Joshua
cannot afford to lose,
and Jake Paul should not win.
But Jake has made a career
of upsetting opponents
that we thought should beat him.
For the main event,
let's go ringside to Mauro Ranallo.
[Mauro] Thank you very much, Kate,
and it's unbelievable but true.
Jake Paul getting set
to battle Anthony Joshua,
and The Tale Of the Tape tells a story.
Joshua, five inches taller,
six-inch reach advantage.
Both of them rely heavily on the jab,
and yet everyone watching here
tonight and around the world on Netflix
is expecting a KO.
Let's bring in our rules expert
and unofficial scorer, Sean Wheelock.
[Sean] This is a fully sanctioned
professional bout,
not an exhibition,
regulated by the Florida Commission.
We are scheduled
for eight three-minute rounds.
The heavyweight standard ten-ounce gloves
will be used.
[dramatic music playing]
[man] Oh, my God!
[intense metal music playing]
[Anthony] If I can break his soul
and I can break his mentality
then I've broken Jake.
[Big Mo] Ladies and gentlemen,
the wait is over.
This is your main event of the evening,
eight three-minute rounds
in the heavyweight division.
Introducing first to the ring,
making his way down the ramp,
please welcome
-Anthony Joshua.
-[crowd cheering, applauding]
[Mauro] Anthony Joshua
hoping for a better outcome
in his second appearance on US soil
after being upset by Andy Ruiz.
And he walks to the ring with confidence
and with Freeway spittin' bars.
And one thing's for sure,
we know Anthony Joshua
can hit harder than a diss track.
The last time he faced a crossover novice,
he absolutely demolished
former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
And he'll be looking to do the same
to the problem child, Jake Paul.
Joshua said, "There is zero chance
this fight goes the distance."
"It might go one round
it might go two rounds,
but he won't see the final bell."
Quote, unquote.
[music continues]
[music concludes]
[Jake] We're two
of the biggest boxers in the world.
Someone's gonna get put to sleep.
[upbeat music playing]
[music concludes]
[Big Mo] And now his opponent,
making his way to the ring,
here is
-Jake Paul!
-[crowd cheering]
-["Real American" playing]
-I am a real American
Fight for the rights of every man
I am a real American
Fight for what's right
Fight for your life
That's my word. Get up in they face.
Talk your shit
Let your nuts drag, n
These ns just runnin' out
they fuckin' mouth, man
Follow protocol, Blood,
get in they fuckin' chest, n
We the fuckin' M.O.B., n
These ns bleed different
We don't bleed, n
We make ns leave, huh?
We make these ns get out of here
-I'm telling you. Let's go
-[crowd cheering]
[indistinct rapping]
[Mauro] Notorious rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine
helping the notorious Jake Paul
into the ring.
Jake Paul proving
he's a real American, brother.
And for Jake Paul, he returns to the city
where his pro journey began
nearly six years ago
with a first-round knockout.
The former Disney star hopes
to foster a fairytale ending
in what is literally and figuratively
the biggest fight
of his unconventional career.
Are we going to see
a Christmas miracle in Miami?
And with the main event introductions here
once again is my main man, Big Mo.
Ladies and gentlemen,
this is your main event of the evening.
Eight three-minute rounds
in the heavyweight division.
Brought to you
and promoted by Nakisa Bidarian.
and Jake Paul's Most
Valuable Promotions
in association with Matchroom Boxing.
And brought to you live
worldwide on Netflix.
Our three judges
scoring this bout at ringside,
David Sutherland, Michael Tate,
and Steve Weisfeld.
And our timekeeper, Rick Villazar.
And our referee in charge
when the bell rings is Christopher Young.
So, the MVP stage is set.
The time is now
for the fighters, for the fans.
-Are you ready to make history?
-[crowd cheering]
Let's meet the fighters.
First fighting out of the red corner
wearing the camouflage trunks,
he stands six feet six inches tall.
He weighed in at 243.4 pounds.
Tonight, he enters the ring
with a professional record
of 28 victories versus four defeats,
with 25 of those wins
coming by way of a knockout.
And he fights
out of Watford, London, England.
Introducing the Olympic gold medalist
and the two-time unified
heavyweight champion of the world.
To some, he is known by his full name,
Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua.
But around the world,
he is known by just two letters.
Ladies and gentlemen, AJ.
Anthony Joshua!
[crowd cheering, applauding]
[Mauro] And now his opponent
Standing across the ring,
fighting out of the blue corner,
wearing the red trunks
with the yellow trim.
He stands six feet, one inch tall.
He weighed in at 216.6 pounds.
Tonight, he enters the ring
with a professional record
of 12 victories versus just one defeat,
with seven of those wins coming
by way of knockout.
And he fights out of Dorado, Puerto Rico,
by way of Cleveland, Ohio, USA!
Introducing the icon,
the man who brought boxing
here to Netflix,
the biggest promoter
of women's boxing of all time,
the one you all came here to see,
ladies and gentlemen,
the creator, the record breaker,
the MVP,
El Gallo de Dorado,
Jake Paul!
[crowd cheering, applauding]
[referee] Let's go.
All right, gentlemen, listen.
This good right here,
this good right here.
Gentlemen, you know what time it is.
You gotta fight hard,
fight clean, touch them up.
[Mauro] Jake Paul says he's
about to author the biggest upset
in the history of sports.
Anthony Joshua looking
to land the money shot
and cash in
on the realest of reality checks.
It's Judgment Day in Miami.
The gloves don't recognize followers,
they recognize force.
One man chasing legitimacy,
the other guarding legacy.
Round one
and Jake Paul already on the move.
Twenty-two by 22-foot ring.
-David, who does that benefit?
-[David] It benefits Jake.
He really needs to stay on his toes,
avoid Anthony Joshua's jab.
There it is.
he doesn't want to be eating those
because that's the equivalent
of a right hand from a cruiserweight.
[Mauro] Yeah, both rely heavily
on their jabs,
but Jake Paul, for the first time
in his boxing career
had a physical disadvantage
in that five-inch reach advantage
for Anthony Joshua
just stalking Jake Paul.
Paul bouncing up and down,
comes forward with the jab.
Crowd getting restless, but this
is exactly what I think we all expected
out of Jake Paul
and for Anthony Joshua as well, Crystina.
Staying focused, staying calm and cool.
[Crystina] Absolutely. Fifteen months out
of the ring for Anthony Joshua.
He's going to get, you know,
some time here to work a little bit
as Jake Paul continues to circle
around the outside of the ring.
What he shouldn't do is circle
to Anthony Joshua's right hand.
He needs to continue
to move to Jake Paul's right
so he can try to land a right hand
like that of his own.
[David] The biggest shot of the fight
so far has come from Jake.
AJ's missing.
He felt a bit embarrassed by taking
that big overhand right from Jake.
And it shows
as he threw a punch out of range.
Baltic are known
for their devastating right hands,
but for Anthony Joshua, full-blown
heavyweight his whole career.
First time he had to make weight,
came in under the 245 weight limit.
And Jake Paul
already resorting to tactics
to get Anthony Joshua off his game.
[Crystina] And I'm good
with that double jab.
that Jake Paul just landed
to the body of Anthony Joshua.
Get yourself in some sort of a rhythm.
Obviously moving around a lot on his feet,
but he needs to start getting loose
with those punches, and I'm good
with him starting off with that jab.
[David] So far, he looks very comfortable
in there,
he doesn't look like he's rattled.
The only shot that's landed has been
from Jake so far.
[Mauro] That's the only shot.
One punch just landed in this first round.
[David] If that's the only shot that lands
in this first round,
-you've got to give it to Jake.
-[Mauro] A big moral victory.
And there it is, a double jab.
Jake able to get inside and then get away
but Anthony Joshua
just picking his
-[Crystina] It only takes
-[Mauro] There's that right hand!
And that right hand is an eraser.
And his right uppercut is devastating.
[David] And he looks a little
frustrated here. Look at him rolling.
-[Mauro] Right hand by Joshua.
-[crowd cheering]
[Mauro] And Jake Paul has his hands down.
He is playing with fire.
[David] It's a dangerous strategy.
But he's looking at counting
with a big overhand right.
[bell ringing]
[speaking indistinctly]
[whistle blowing]
[Mauro] Anthony Joshua working
with Igor Golem
who, of course, instrumental
for Oleksandr Usyk's success.
Joshua 0 for 2 against Usyk,
last time he weighed under 245
was a rematch with Usyk.
And now, man, that first round has to be
considered a victory for Jake Paul.
2 of 10, Joshua, 2 of 11.
And it's now round two,
and Joshua has to be disappointed.
He told us
it would be a huge disappointment
if he didn't
score the first round knockout.
But again, David, knockouts are hard
to come by no matter what.
[David] When you're trying
for the knockout, it's very difficult.
And Anthony Joshua
looks like right now he's trying.
And when you try, you slow down.
It's a good game plan so far from Jake,
he landed a good right hand to the body.
-[Mauro] Whoa!
-[David] And Joshua misses
with that sweeping right hand,
delivered with bad intentions.
[Crystina] And a smirk on the face
of Jake Paul
as he felt some breeze
probably zipping through his face
after that shot misses
from Anthony Joshua,
but you have to think there's a little bit
of a clock in Anthony Joshua's mind.
However long this fight goes,
I think the pressure mounts for him
to land something significant.
[David] I can see the pressure on him now,
that big swing and a miss.
Very rarely does AJ throw shots
from out of range like that.
[Mauro] Now he has Paul along the rope.
Paul clinches like a veteran.
And he went from looking down
at Tank Davis to looking up at a tank
in Anthony Joshua,
as Jake Paul so eloquently put it.
And he's content to just continue
to utilize movement,
not worried about throwing anything
of substance right now.
He wants to just see
what Anthony Joshua's all about.
Minute-and-a-half gone here in the second.
As the seconds tick away,
you know, fans will become
more and more frustrated.
Especially those who thought
Joshua would put away Jake Paul
in a hurry.
[David] Smirk on Jake's face.
He's toying with him.
[Mauro] He's playing with fire.
-[David] He really is.
-[Mauro] Hands are down.
But Joshua unable to cut off the ring.
Now following Paul.
[Crystina] And a bit of a clash
of heads there as Jake Paul looks
to close the distance
and holds Anthony Joshua.
[Mauro] Final minute of the second.
[David] Anthony Joshua
is an inside fighter,
in regards to grappling and pushing,
whereas Jake
got a wrestling background.
So he'll be a lot more comfortable
in those clinches.
[Mauro] Paul along the ropes
where he doesn't want to stay too long
against a murderous puncher
like Anthony Joshua.
[David] Jake's doing a great job
of avoiding those big killer right hands.
Anthony Joshua isn't setting anything up,
he's loading up with the shots,
-playing into Jake's game plan.
-[Mauro] Fans already frustrated again.
None of us expected this fight
to go long, despite the fact
that most of us thought Jake Paul
would utilize the ring and move it,
Anthony Joshua unable to land
anything of consequence yet,
-as we are now through two rounds.
-[bell ringing]
[Mauro] And our center of the ring,
sponsor Intuit TurboTax.
He can't do his own footwork.
Listen. Don't let him set.
Don't let him walk to you and set.
Don't let this motherfucker set.
Look, just when he comes to you,
hit him with a fake
and give him some side step moves.
Hit him with another fake.
Every time you fake, he stop you.
Don't lean in.
He's gonna punch
right down your fucking head.
Fake. Look at that motherfucker.
[Crystina] Well, the only punches
coming in that last round
were from Anthony Joshua,
but a big swing and a miss there.
And then a reaction from Jake Paul,
who right now doesn't seem
like he's looking to win.
He just seems
like he's looking to survive
and have a little bit
of fun in there while he's doing it.
He's passed two rounds, more than a lot
of people think he'd make it,
but the name
of the game is throwing punches.
-He's got to throw punches.
-[Mauro] Low connects.
And here we are, round three, and David,
you're a former cruiserweight
and heavyweight champion.
You represented the sport well.
There are many people that didn't think
this fight should even be sanctioned.
They feel that it's a black eye to boxing
of sorts, the purists especially.
And the clock continues to tick.
The longer this goes,
does it become embarrassing
for Anthony Joshua?
[David] Anthony Joshua, if you'd have said
he wouldn't have been able to get to grips
with him in the first two rounds,
he said in an interview earlier,
a couple of days ago,
that if he doesn't knock him out
in the first round,
he will consider it a loss.
Crazy though, this is the type of fight
that he hasn't had before
where he has to get a knockout.
And he's trying a little too hard.
I was worried for Anthony Joshua
coming into this fight.
It's a hell of a different type
of pressure to put on yourself.
it's not about winning.
People assume he's gonna win.
It's how he wins and how easy he wins.
At the moment, he's throwing punches
but he's missing,
he's not looking as slick
as he would like to do.
[Mauro] They're not exactly
throwing punches
It's incredible in that last round
Jake Paul was one of six,
Joshua just four of 26.
So, not at all what fans expected.
Right uppercut there by Paul.
[Crystina] And a little look on the face
of Anthony Joshua,
almost in our direction.
He's getting a little frustrated.
Every time he gets close,
you can tell the Jake Paul game plan
is to grab him, hold, and clinch.
-Move the action back into the inside.
-[David] Exactly.
[Mauro] Oh, a jab.
Paul jabbed Joshua, and we welcome those
of you watching the football game.
[David] This is the fight
Anthony Joshua didn't want to be in.
Minute-20, left here in the third.
[Mauro] And it's not, I mean,
Jake Paul's doing next to nothing, guys.
[David] He's not getting knocked out.
That's what he's doing at the moment.
The whole game plan should be
do not get knocked out first.
[Mauro] It's amazing
how the sport of boxing,
all combat sports, the hype,
and yet you get the results
and you keep coming back.
-And now Joshua's talking.
-[David] Missing with the right hand.
[Mauro] I'm amazed at how much
Anthony Joshua's missed.
[David] He's frustrated,
he usually has someone coming at him,
this time he's got
to really pick his feet up,
he's got to re-adjust.
And Jake Paul has practiced this,
he's had big strong spine butters coming
at him just like AJ's.
Apparently
They all said he's very,
very difficult to trap.
[Mauro] Jared Anderson.
-[Crystina] Frank Sanchez.
-[Mauro] Frank Sanchez.
So, legitimate heavyweight
sparring partners.
[David]
And remember, Jake said he believes
he's going to get the knockout
in round four or five.
[Mauro] Yeah, between rounds four
and six, he said.
-[David] He hasn't tried so far.
-[Mauro] It has been
lackadaisical, to say the least.
There is absolutely next to no offense
going on in this fight.
And I know boxing fans find it offensive.
Well, there's a WWE superstar
and the older brother of Jake Paul,
Logan Paul.
Of course, Monday Night Raw
airs right here on Netflix.
[speaks indistinctly]
Back to the ropes, you're being turned.
Straight in the circle,
right in front of him.
[Crystina] One of only four jabs
connected by Jake Paul,
which to me is a good punch for him
if he could start to get that going
a little bit.
But here's the look
I was talking about earlier,
where AJ was getting frustrated
in that clinch
when it looked like Jake Paul
was going for the takedown.
[David] He didn't want to get hit
with that jab.
[Mauro] Round number four,
the numbers are putrid, to say the least.
Paul, three of five in round three.
Joshua, seven of 25.
There's a jab from Joshua
that pops Paul's head back.
Paul looking to land the overhand right.
He's against the ropes
and Joshua just leaning in on him.
Paul coming in at just under 217.
Eleven pounds lighter
than he was against Mike Tyson
in his only other heavyweight fight
that took place last November.
[Crystina] Seems like he's looking
for a few more.
[Mauro] Oh, there's a right hand,
left hand that lands for Jake Paul.
The jab lands again for Paul.
[Crystina] Looking for a few
more openings.
And a few more takedowns.
Mauro, is that why
he's wearing the Hulk Hogan?
That's like the third time he's looked
for a takedown.
[Mauro] And he's being warned here
by the referee as he should.
Christopher Young.
[David] Yeah. Different sport.
[Mauro] No ground and pound
allowed here in boxing.
And those who expected Paul
to get pounded already
are disappointed, and frankly,
here we are round four
and again guys, just not much
of anything going on, David.
[David] There's a few good shots
from Jake Paul that round.
[Mauro] I mean four of seven,
Joshua, one of seven.
[David] This is exactly
what Jake Paul wanted,
this exact fight.
It's exactly what he prepared for.
[Mauro] And there he ducks
underneath the sweeping right hand
of Joshua.
Again, Paul on the ropes,
and Paul just can't find his footing.
[Crystina] But that kind of stuff,
correct me if I'm wrong, David,
it takes a lot out of you
when you're doing all that extracurricular
and then you hit the mat like that.
[David] It does when you're getting
pushed down by a much bigger man.
[Mauro] And both have had stamina issues
in their careers
the longer the fight goes.
This one only scheduled for eighth.
Joshua not really delivering
anything with malevolence.
There's the right uppercut!
Under a minute left in the fourth.
[Crystina] I like that.
Oh, and Paul tried, but come on.
Enough is enough.
Yes, the referee finally calling a time,
and that could be a point deduction.
[David] Anthony Joshua
getting very frustrated,
putting all of his weight.
Take your time, take your time.
I've got it, sit down.
[Mauro] It looks like Joshua
trying to jingle the bells
or maybe put the nutcracker
in nutcracker sweet.
It is the holiday season after all.
But Jake Paul, now, taking the low blow,
has up to five minutes.
And he's just asking
for how much time does he have left.
Well, we know
he's got Spalding-sized cojones
for taking the fight,
and it was tested here.
Anthony Joshua,
and I don't see a low blow at all there,
so I don't know
what we're talking about here.
-That's the knee landing.
-[David] The knee. The knee.
[Mauro] Man, oh, man,
this is just bowling shoe ugly.
Time in!
[David] Thirty seconds left
in the first half of this fight.
Didn't expect to say that either.
[Mauro] Left hook from Jake Paul there.
He's landing punches. What is this?
I mean, they blame Joshua, but it's, what?
The referee,
it's Jake Paul that's doing this!
Come on.
[Crystina] I mean, all he's doing
is buying Jake Paul more time.
-I don't like it at all.
-[Mauro] I don't get this.
[referee] Listen.
Both of y'all come here.
Both of y'all come here.
Listen. Rough tactics gotta stop, okay?
The fans didn't pay
to see this crap, okay?
You're gonna fight, you're gonna fight,
but fight within the rules, okay?
Touch 'em up, fight clean.
[Mauro] Christopher Young
with the quote of the night.
"The fans did not pay to see this crap."
If you control your breathing,
you can control everything.
If you control your breathing,
you can control
every motherfucking thing.
Just calm down.
The motherfucker
will show you everything, Jake.
He keeps hope for you.
He can't hit you with shit
unless you've given it to him.
Unless you've given it to him.
Don't give him shit.
All right.
Don't give him nothing to look for.
And look, and look, and look, right?
The footwork drills.
-Let's get them drills in there.
-[coach] Come on.
-Find it. Find it.
-Time it. Time it.
Distance. Range. Distance. Range.
yet.
[Mauro] Jake Paul's trainer
Theo Chambers III hails from Detroit's
legendary Kronk Gym
where he was a pupil
of the estimable Emanuel Steward
who always said knockout cell
and fans were sold on expecting a knockout
in this main event.
We have reached round number five!
[Crystina] Most people didn't think
we'd get to this point,
the second half of this fight.
But a lot of it has been fought
on the mat, just as much almost has been
fought on these men's feet.
But look it, the way that it has
to go for Jake Paul is working his way
in on that jab, just like that.
Back to the basics.
-[David] It really is.
-[Mauro] The uppercut! And he took it!
Jake Paul took it.
-[David] And yet he takes the knee again.
-[Crystina] Again.
[Mauro] This is not Joshua,
that's Jake Paul's fault!
Right hand, left by Joshua.
He's got Jake Paul cornered.
Paul's hands are down.
Paul unwinds and catapult right hand
to the left by Paul.
Paul looking to make it a fight now.
Final two minutes of the fifth
and the action finally coming to life.
[Crystina] Down to the body
with the right hand for Anthony Joshua.
There's a big left now!
[Mauro] Text messages are lighting up.
Everyone wondering
what the hell is happening.
And Joshua continues to chop down Paul.
-[referee] Four, five, six, seven
-And that's ruled a knockdown.
[David] He looked like
he was stuffing all of his leg.
[Mauro] Jake Paul's been knocked down
here in the fifth.
Is he about to be knocked out?
[Mauro] Joshua, The Predator,
counter right.
There's the right hand,
Jake Paul goes down again.
-Second knockdown.
-[crowd cheering]
Five, six, seven, eight.
-Ready to go, man? Walk with me.
-[Mauro] Forty five seconds
left in the fifth.
Will Jake Paul survive the round?
No three knockdown rule in effect.
And Paul, fatigued, hands are low.
Joshua on the just stalking him.
And the right hand by Paul!
Uncorks a catapult right.
[Crystina] Looks like Jake Paul
is trying to bait him into something,
but he's the one that's
hit the canvas twice in this round.
Incredible.
[Mauro] Jake Paul being measured up
by Joshua for that right hand.
Gets clipped again.
Another right! Another left!
-[bell ringing]
-[Mauro] And the bell goes
to end the fifth.
-A tremendous round for Anthony Joshua.
-[crowd cheering]
Wake your goddamn self. Wake the fuck up.
[Crystina] Let's take a look
at the first knockdown here.
That body shot lands
from AJ with the left hand.
Jake Paul walks it off,
tries to land a right of his own,
but the left hooks kept coming.
It looked like a misstep there,
and you saw the grimace
on Jake Paul as he stepped back
with that right leg,
something to keep an eye
on if this fight continues
to inch forward.
And inching forward closer and closer
is Anthony Joshua to closing the distance.
You can tell Jake Paul is not
taking those punches very well.
But that punch right there
from Jake Paul was the cleanest shot
he's landed tonight.
And it's because Anthony Joshua's
getting comfortable in there.
-[Mauro] It didn't even bother Joshua.
-[Crystina] Not one bit.
[Mauro] Jake Paul, a cruiserweight,
fighting his second fight
at heavyweight against
a bona fide knockout artist.
And Anthony Joshua
seeking his 26th knockout as a pro.
But Jake Paul coming forward.
He's off balance. He's tired.
He's breathing heavily.
And he's cornered again by Joshua.
Down, Paul goes again,
following the right hand,
the third knockdown of the fight.
Seven, eight.
You wanna go, baby?
I don't think you wanna continue that.
Paul wants to continue.
But it's all Anthony Joshua,
three knockdowns.
And Paul needs
to get off the ropes, David.
[David] He does,
that's not the place for him.
[Mauro] Man, he's tired.
[David] He's moving them feet
like he was in the early rounds.
[Mauro] Right uppercut,
it's amazing that Paul is still standing,
taking the right uppercut.
He knows he's been hurt,
his hands are down,
it's just incredible.
[David] And even if he does land
his best shot at the moment,
not that much is going to happen.
[Mauro] And it almost
there's a left hook.
-[Crystina] Oh, my goodness!
-[Mauro] And down goes Paul.
Six, seven, eight, nine.
[Mauro] Mama Mia!
It may have taken a little bit longer
than everyone expected,
but AJ gets the KO in round six.
And yet, Jake Paul back on his feet,
being consoled by his brother, Logan Paul.
And you know what?
I guess the best thing
that can be said for Jake Paul
is that he wasn't seriously hurt.
[David] He wasn't,
and he was actually competitive in there.
You know, through his own punches,
landed a few shots.
Obviously, that is the difference between
a world-class professional
former world champion.
[Mauro] So at the end of the day,
despite it taking a little bit longer,
what everyone expected came true.
-Sometimes that happens in life.
-[David] The cream does rise to the top.
It was frustrating
for Anthony Joshua there
throughout those early rounds.
He had a good game plan
in terms of using lateral movement,
ducking and diving and slipping.
But with those ten-ounce gloves
on what can be done
in sparring with 16, 18-ounce gloves
is very difficult to do
in the professional ring
with those little gloves,
as Anthony Joshua is a very,
very heavy hitter.
And those body shots
that he landed obviously paid their toll.
[Crystina] You could tell he was starting
to get more in a rhythm
was AJ in round five and round six.
He shook off the rust.
And once Jake Paul decided
that he was going to stand there
and throw some punches,
that was kind
of the beginning of the end for me.
[Mauro] One of the biggest paydays
of Anthony Joshua's career.
And in the end, he did give him
the realest of reality checks,
knocking him down a total of four times
after being knocked down four times
in a knockout loss
to Daniel Dubois
the last time he was in the ring.
But again
can't sell the knockout that much
because again, expected.
And at the end of the day,
what have we proven here?
[David] We haven't proven anything
to be honest.
What we've proven is, you know,
that Jake Paul could manage
to get to round five
or round six with Anthony Joshua,
who would have thought he'd have
been able to do that?
[Mauro] Was Joshua playing with his food?
[David] No, Anthony Joshua
was going for the knockout
from the first round. He got frustrated.
He was actually playing
into Jake Paul's game plan.
But sooner or later, you know,
the gap closes and those punches
that are just whistling over
your head start connecting.
And you can only move your feet that much.
[Crystina] And here was
the beginning of the end
when Jake Paul decided to finally open up
and throw some more punches.
The class, like you said, David Haye,
started to rise to the top.
It was an attempt at a takedown,
but Anthony Joshua
kind of set up the knockdown
perfectly with what? The jab.
The most basic punch in all of boxing.
Misses on the left uppercut,
shoots the right,
and you get a little reaction there
out of Jake Paul,
but when he gets caught
with his hands down
and his chin served on the platter
for that right hand right there.
And look at Jake Paul's face.
He knew it right away. He said, whoo!
I know that's Ric Flair,
and he came out not to Ric Flair.
He came out to Hulk Hogan,
but he's up on his feet like, Mauro,
you said he took his hardest punch.
He did get back up.
It just wasn't before the count.
[Mauro] And it was game over
for Jake Paul.
[David] That right hand
that he took right at the end,
that was a shot everyone was saying
if he gets hit with,
he goes down,
and that's exactly what happened.
[Mauro] We will make it official.
Judgment Day is over here in Miami.
We'll hear from Big Mo right after this.
[dramatic music playing]
[music concludes]
-[indistinct chatter]
-[upbeat hip-hop music playing]
[Mauro] So, here in Miami,
the main event has ended
and Anthony Joshua
and Logan Paul going at it,
but let's make it official now
with Big Mo.
Oh, man.
[Big Mo] Ladies and gentlemen
Referee Christopher Young
calls a stop to this contest
at one minute, 31 seconds
of the sixth round.
Declaring your winner by knockout,
AJ, Anthony Joshua!
[Mauro] Joshua closed the show
in the sixth landing,
62 percent of his power shots.
[Mauro] Let's go to Ariel Helwani.
Mauro, thank you very much.
I'm here with the winner, Anthony Joshua.
Anthony, congratulations on the win.
How would you describe that fight?
Well, first of all, I want to give love
to the crowd, everyone that came out.
I really do appreciate
everyone in this venue.
Now you asked me a question.
Look, it wasn't the best performance.
It wasn't the best.
The end goal was to get Jake Paul,
pin him down, and hurt him.
That has been the request leading up,
and that was on my mind.
It took a bit longer than expected.
But the right-hand family
found a destination.
Now, Jake Paul,
he's done really well tonight.
I want to give him his props.
He got up time and time again.
It was difficult in there for him,
but he kept on trying to find a way.
It takes a real man to do that.
Anyone who laces up his gloves,
we always say we give them their respect.
We have to give Jake his respect
for trying and trying and trying.
Well done. But he came up against
a real fighter tonight
that's had a 15 month layoff.
We shook off the cobwebs
and I can't wait to roll into 2026.
And if Tyson Fury's as serious
as he thinks he is,
and he wants to put down
his Twitter fingers
and put on some gloves, and come and fight
one of the realest fighters out there
that will take on any challenge.
Step in the room with me next
if you're a real bad boy.
Don't do all that talking.
AJ this, AJ that.
Let's see you in the ring
and talk with your fists.
-Is that good for you?
-[Ariel] That is good
but I have more questions
and we'll get to what's next in a moment.
I do want to ask, are you disappointed
you didn't put him away earlier?
Well, I see Eddie saying
"Get him now! get him now!"
But as I said I need to give
this guy a systematic breakdown
I know what type of fighter he is.
And I said, I'm going to take his soul.
And I said, I'm going to see it
leaving his body round after round.
And when the time comes, some people
are just there to get knocked out.
And I said it,
and that's exactly what happened.
See, fighting is not just
about the physicality.
I know you see someone that looks
like a Greek god
standing in front of you right now.
But I understand the psychology
of fighting as well.
And I understood what Jake
was going through.
And I just took my time, as I said,
15 months out of the ring.
And I got the job done
within the time limit of eight rounds.
Did he hurt you at any point?
It looked like he connected
a couple times at least.
Did he hurt you
and were you surprised by that?
I refuse to get hurt.
I refuse to acknowledge getting hurt.
I refuse to be beat.
This is boxing. I'm going to get hit.
And when I get hit,
I'm going to counter punch.
Every time he hit me,
I stood there and I tried
to hit him straight back.
There was no hurt in me.
It's just what we do.
In basketball, they score points,
the other team score points.
In boxing, I hit them, they hit me.
At the end of the day, there's going to be
one winner and it was me tonight.
Thank God. But as I said, Jake, well done.
Well, well done.
And Netflix, thank you very much.
-And MVP.
-You were very calm. Yes.
You were very calm going into this fight,
but you did
say you were doing this for boxing.
Do you feel like a weight
has been lifted off your shoulders?
Because had you slipped on a banana peel,
it would have been bad for your legacy.
I don't care about the legacy.
All the legacy's there
to do, is just last
for about 50 years or so,
and then once it's done, it's done.
I'm just doing what I enjoy to do.
This is what I decided to do.
While some of my friends decided
to do a little bit of hustling,
some of my friends decided
to go down the college route,
I decided to go down
the school of boxing.
This is what I do.
I'm gonna do it until I can't no more.
And whatever happens on this journey,
all we can do is give our best.
And that's what I'm gonna keep doing
until I can't throw another punch.
Amen. Let me bring in Jake Paul.
Jake, congratulations on a valiant effort.
You succeeded way more than
a lot of people
had predicted going into this fight.
Could I just ask simply,
how are you feeling after that knockout?
Yeah, I'm feeling good. That was fun.
I love this sport.
I gave it my all. It's fucking crazy.
I had a blast, and thank you
to all the fans and everyone.
[crowd cheering, applauding]
I'm just blessed by God to be able
to put on performances like this
and big shows with Netflix.
Thank you to all my fans
and everyone at home.
Anthony's a great fighter,
and I got my ass beat,
but that's what this sport's about.
I'm going to come back
and keep on winning.
I see the smile on your face.
You appear to be in good spirits.
Usually when people lose a fight
of this stature, they're upset.
Why aren't you disappointed right now?
Man, I've already won
in every single way in life.
My family, my beautiful fiance, Jutta.
This sport has helped me so much
in my life.
I think my jaw is broken,
by the way, so
Yeah. It's definitely broke
But Man, that was good.
Nice little ass-whooping from one
of the best to ever do it.
So I love this shit,
and I'm gonna come back
and get a world championship belt
at some point.
Are you surprised you went six rounds
with the former two-time
unified heavyweight champion?
Honestly, I'm not surprised.
I just got tired, to be honest, like,
it was just so much handling his weight.
I think if I could have had better
cardio I think I could have kept it up
and kept on fighting,
but he did amazing, he hits really hard,
and I just did my personal best.
Lastly, I'd be remiss if I don't ask you,
do you want to keep going?
Do you want to keep fighting?
Oh, yeah, for sure.
We're gonna heal the broken jaw,
come back and fight people my weight,
go for the Cruiserweight World Title.
Who do you want next?
Anyone come to mind right now?
Man, I'm going to take a little break.
I've been going hard for six years,
so I'm going to take some time off.
But thank you to all the fans.
Thank you to Netflix.
This is amazing. I love Miami.
I love America.
They're the greatest country in the world.
So thank you for all the support.
-Much love.
-[Ariel] Thank you very much, Jake.
And congratulations to you.
Is AJ still here or is he gone?
He appears to be gone.
Who is next for Anthony Joshua,
by the way?
[coach] We want
the Tyson Fury fight, of course.
That's the fight.
It's the biggest fight in boxing.
And respect to that man as well.
He did a great job tonight.
Good rounds in the bank
for Anthony Joshua.
2026, back to the real business.
Tyson Fury
in the World Heavyweight Championship.
[Ariel] Thank you guys and congratulations
to the great Anthony Joshua
and Jake Paul for the fight
they put on here tonight.
-Mauro, back to you.
-[Mauro] All right, Ariel.
Thank you very much, both of them,
of course, cashing massive checks,
and that's, uh, another reason
for Jake Paul
still to be smiling despite a broken jaw.
The "Jawbreaker" Anthony Joshua
receiving his accolades
as he scores his 26th knockout.
It came in the sixth round
following four knockdowns
and, uh, I'll give the final thoughts
as we look at the replay.
Let's take a look
at how this fight unfolded.
[Cynthia] Yeah, after Anthony Joshua got
into a good rhythm,
he started landing
some really clean punches.
That's probably the shot right there
when you get that reaction,
that was the Now we'll call it
"Jawbreaker" if you will,
And, you know, I give Jake Paul credit
for stepping in there in the first place,
going six rounds
All those people that say,
"If this doesn't get past the first round,
it's a loss for Anthony Joshua."
Well, he did what he was supposed to do.
We also give a little due credit now
to Jake Paul.
[David] You have to,
and I said that at the beginning,
and before the fight started,
it's very difficult to knock someone out
who's not trying to engage in battle.
When someone's trying to move around,
you kill the clock,
and try to slow things down,
it's very difficult you've got
to wait until they get tired.
And as, uh, Jake said, the only reason
he believes he got caught was
because his cardio wasn't good--
It wasn't his cardio,
it was a fact, he had a big man in front
of him, draining the energy out of him.
[Cynthia] As he's making some
new fans here, I'm sure, in the U.S.
in his second fight here.
Hopefully, he'll be back here.
[David] I say he was only as good
as your last fight,
but his last fight was
a six-round stoppage of Jake Paul
versus a six-round stoppage
of a big end stop by Daniel Dubois,
so he's back on his winning tracks.
[Mauro] All right, let's put the button
on the proceedings.
Judgment Day is
in the books here in Miami.
Let's go back
to Kate and her all-star panel.
[Kate] Yes, thank you, Mauro.
Hey, everybody.
So good to have you still with us.
I'm Kate Scott with three of the best
that boxing has ever produced.
Hall of Famers, all of them.
Laila Ali, Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis.
So, that was something, wasn't it?
Former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion
of the World.
Tell me your thoughts, Lennox.
[Lennox] Well, I thought, you know,
what Anthony said, that he was out
for 15 months, it showed.
And he definitely needed a couple
of rounds to warm up
and get used to the ring again
before he threw those punches.
And, you know, he did what he had to do.
He had a guy in front of him
that was running around the ring
and he had to catch up with him.
And once he caught up with him,
because it really came down
to who was in better shape,
and Jake Paul wasn't
in good shape for this fight,
especially for a big heavyweight
like that.
So after a couple rounds,
it got to him, and it showed, and,
you know, basically, he was just
sitting there waiting to get hit.
-[Kate] Andre?
-[Andre] Yeah, I liked the fight.
It was a fun fight.
I respect Jake Paul for taking it.
You know, think
about the neighborhood
that I grew up in where it's like
It's not if you get beat,
but did you fight?
-[Kate] Okay.
-[Andre] Right.
Then you get respect if you fought.
He beat you, but did you fight?
I respect the performance of Jake Paul.
Lennox is right.
What you saw
was a fighter who started late
and didn't know what
to do against a taller guy
with long arms in certain spots.
That conditioning that Jake Paul needed,
that comes from the crib.
a young kid who builds conditioning
over years he's not going to get that
in a 12-week training camp
so when he got tired he panicked
and he started falling,
and that's just a sign of fatigue.
So he helped Joshua out a little bit
because he was having some decent
success early on,
but you got to give Joshua
just a little bit of grace too
because he has been off and Jake Paul
is good enough to make things interesting
-for a little while and he did that.
-[Kate] I mean,
Anthony Joshua holds his hand up, says,
"Listen, it wasn't my best performance."
I think he was seeing the reaction
to the knockdown there
from the team ringside.
So Anthony Joshua says,
"Listen, it wasn't the best I've ever been
in the ring."
What would you have liked
to have seen him do more of?
What was missing?
[Laila] Well, uh, as we said
before the fight started,
we really wanted him to come out there,
dominate, use his jab,
set up the right hand and he pretty much,
you know, got there eventually
but, you know, he hasn't been in the ring
for 15 months,
Jake Paul was running around the ring.
I would like to see Anthony Joshua go back
and work on cutting off the ring
a little more instead of, you know,
chasing him around the ring.
That's what I would like to have seen.
But, you know, what's good is
that the fans got to see a fun fight.
You know what I mean?
A lot of times people are like,
"Oh, stop it in the first round." Right?
But they got to see it play out
and it ended, you know,
in a way that most people thought
was going to end anyway, right? Knockout.
[Kate] Yeah, that's true.
And that's what, kind of
like there have been people turning out
to see Jake Paul get knocked out
for some time now.
We thought it would happen
against Tyron Woodley. It didn't.
We thought it would happen
against Mike Tyson. It didn't.
Jake Paul showed a lot of heart in there.
He endured that fifth round.
He took some big shots.
Where does he belong in the boxing world?
-Lennox, help us understand this.
-[Lennox] Who? Jake Paul?
[Kate] Yes.
[Lennox] I guess doing the same thing
he's been doing, you know,
find a celebrity and box him.
[laughs] You know, and I think
the public enjoys that type of thing.
But when he gets up
against a real fighter,
you can see what can really happen.
You know, he's a smart guy,
so he can always stay current.
And, you know, what he was saying
after the fight was great.
You know, he's having fun.
And we can see him having
the fun out there.
[Kate] He says he wants
a world title, though.
Does this fight do anything
to position him in line for that, Andre?
-I know the answer. [laughs]
-[Andre laughs]
[Kate] What-- We're going
to show you the punch stats for the fight
in just a second so we'll jump
into that in just a minute.
I guess with Anthony Joshua, one
of the questions that people are wondering
about him were kind of wondering,
where is his career going?
Can he be a world champion again?
Here you can see, uh,
the final punch stats.
Listen, Anthony Joshua threw a lot more,
landed a lot more,
but like you say there's difference
in terms of the levels, Andre,
and this is kind of what we expected.
[Andre] Yeah,
this is what we expected, you know,
Joshua's been doing this for a very,
very long time.
Like I said, Jake Paul is a COVID baby
in terms of his birth
into professional boxing.
2020 is when he started.
You shouldn't have much success
against a guy that's been around
like Joshua has, gold medalist.
And you said,
what is his place in the sport?
He's a disruptor, like you said early on,
and he's an influencer who's
found a lane to make money,
to bring his fan base over,
to get casual fans interested,
and that just is what it is.
And it's a guy that every now
and again will take a risk.
Like he did tonight,
he's not afraid to lose.
He got knocked out.
He said, man,
I'm playing with house money.
It's all good. I'm not tripping.
That's just who he is.
He's come in and had his impact.
No, he's not a great all time.
We're not going to have that discussion.
But he's a guy who has disrupted the game
enough to get attention, to make money,
and to have other fighters
who actually want to fight him.
[Kate] Lennox, the Tyson Fury fight,
Anthony Joshua mentioned it
in the ring.
It's a generational showdown.
The UK wants to see it.
Boxing wants to see that fight.
[Lennox] Yeah, they want to see it because
that's the fight that they're waiting for.
And, you know,
both of them are talking about it.
The fight's been signed.
So that's what we're waiting for next.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
One of the biggest fights
in British history is going to happen.
[Kate] Let's get it.
Let's make it happen.
Okay, everybody, big news.
Dave Chappelle is back with a new special.
We don't want you
to miss this one, The Unstoppable.
It is available for you
right now only on Netflix.
Meanwhile, from all of us here at Netflix
and Most Valuable Promotions,
thank you so much
for being with us tonight.
Thank you to you guys for sitting with me,
Laila, Andre, and Lennox.
Wherever you guys have been watching
at home around the world,
good night from Miami
and good night from all of us.
-[Andre] Yes.
-[dramatic music playing]
[dramatic music continues]
[music fades]
