Married Against the Will (2026) Movie Script
[Ava Rayette (married against her will)]
- I'm going to marry a complete stranger?
And he's not even here yet?
[Hilda & Heather (Ava's
foster mother & sister)]
I googled him,
the groom.
He's weird
I know.
But who cares?
This family is loaded.
This family is grotesque.
Father!
Where the hell is the groom?
How on earth did I end up here?
And what am I going to say to Falcon?
My God!
He deserves some explanation.
Wow.
Hi.
What's your name again?
Ava.
And you are?
You'll see.
Dearly beloved.
Why does he need a contract wife?
Why me?
Do you, Bobby Plainview take this woman?
Yeah, yeah.
Fine.
And do you, Ava.
Yes, I do.
I now pronounce you married.
You may kiss the bride.
You have no idea what
you've gotten yourself into.
(Three days earlier)
She's pulling the plug. Hugo's gonna die
Twenty years he's been more than a father.
And she's going to kill him
over numbers on a spreadsheet.
This is it, bitches!
Say your last words.
What? You came at us
like a goddamn missile.
(FROM THE PHONE) Oh
my God! What is going on?!
Gary, no!
I'm gonna destroy you for this.
Oh my God.
What will happen to us?
You.
It's all your fault.
And you're going to
pay every single dollar.
Mr. Planview,
I'm so sorry.
Your son didn't make it
And his wife your daughter-in-law
Due to stress, she had a miscarriage.
I'm so sorry, Sir
Both?
I think I can figure it out.
I met this guy in college, Falcon.
He promised he would help me settle in.
So go call this Falcon now.
And he better make you a really good deal.
Falcon?
What a small world.
Here's what's going to happen.
For me not to destroy you
and your pathetic family.
You must marry my younger son
and give him a baby within in nine months.
Excuse me?
She'll do it.
What? No, that's
literally human trafficking.
Otherwise, you can all
start digging your graves.
No!
She'll be there.
I felt so humiliated.
I was literally sold by my stepmother
to these pervert oil billionaires.
[Bobby Plainview (also
married against his will)]
[Cecil Plainview (patriarch
of the oil billionnaire clan)]
The timing is good. Our family.
[Daniel Plainview (Cecil's son & Bobby's Father)]
- needed to balance out.
Gary's passing with new beginnings.
At least Bobby's given
us something to celebrate.
Young love.
Or perhaps the girl's already expecting.
I should check on the arrangements.
Enough.
Be grateful she's pretty.
That's the only thing going right today.
You're a Plainview! You have obligations.
You will stand by this marriage
and give this family an heir!
And you'll take whatever I make
and slap a Plainview
label on it, won't you?
Well, Gina can't
give me a grandchild, so you will.
With Ava.
Enough said.
Gina...
So that's it.
There's an infertile girlfriend.
And I am
the surrogate?
Okay, he's a spoiled arrogant brat.
And what am I doing here?
This is pure madness.
God, he wasn't supposed to look like this.
I overheard something, at the wedding I
We need to set up some rules.
Rule number one.
Don't ask me questions.
Wait, no. You can't just...
Shh.
Rule number two.
To not argue with me.
Rule number three.
Obey everything I ask.
Take off your dress.
Or should I remind you why you're here?
You're beautiful.
Well, Gina can't give me
a grandchild, so you will.
With Ava.
What about Gina?
You don't get to utter her name
You're leaving?
Gina? How are you?
Right.
He spent our wedding night with this Gina.
But why do I even care?
After all, I'm just a deposit.
A bail against the flail
to protect my family.
Hello?
Oh my God.
I'll be right there.
Hugo?
[Hugo Rayette (Ava's foster father)]
You're back to life. It's a miracle.
It is, little birdie.
They told me your husband
paid for the treatment.
I don't understand.
Bobby paid for my dad's therapy.
Is this some kind of mistake?
Bobby.
I'm Ava's husband.
Mr. Rayette pleasure to meet you.
I'm Bobby Plainview.
Plainview?
Hugo, are you okay?
I'm fine, little birdie.
Now, if you don't mind...
I have to steal Ava away from you..
Anything but that.
Wait, do you know my stepfather?
No time.
Now, we're meeting my
friends from Europe, and the
next part of this spectacular production.
I'm gonna need you to
look Plainview appropriate.
You think you can handle that?
What? No comment?
No compliment?
You look appropriate.
Get in.
Try not to talk too much.
Cool. He brought me here
like it meant something,
and then Ava, girls, girls,
Ava, and disappeared.
How am I supposed to act
like a happy couple when
I'm on my own?
Cute dress.
Looks like Zara.
Seriously?
That price tag read 50 grand.
Well, in fact, it's Tadashi Sho yee..
It's a Sho-Dji - not a Sho-Wee
I told you girls... it's too wannabe.
Cheers!
Right?
What's up bro?
Brother!
What the fuck do you want!?
You need a refill, I guess.
Just go. I'll sleep here.
You're drunk.
No, no, no... What do you think?
I'm cold.
I think that you're a hot mess.
And you are getting undressed.
Arms up.
Is this how we consummate the marriage?
You know the rules.
Yeah, Mr. Boundaries?
Are you leaving?
Use some sleep trouble.
Right... sweetheart.
Hey, Falcon.
I just saw your message.
What do you mean? We need to break up.
We need to talk.
Actually, there's something
that I need to tell you.
I've married someone else.
Married?
You know what, Eva?
You're not even funny.
Hey.
About last night, I...
Yeah.
Tried to seduce me while drunk.
Not exactly a scandal by
California standards, so...
I was planning on giving
you a more eloquent apology,
but yeah, let's go with that.
By the way, thank you for rescuing me.
That party turned into a disaster.
By the way, what did that guy say to you?
Did he touch you?
No, no. He was just talking shit
about your soccer skills.
I didn't like it.
Since when?
Since you're my husband.
So anyways, I woke up
sober and I realized that
I had completely embarrassed myself.
Not embarrassed, you were honest.
And, uh...
You want me present tense.
Your ego really doesn't need any help.
It's not ego... observation.
So what? What if I do want you?
Well then we'd finally be on the same page.
No more Mr. Boundaries.
No rules this time?
Make them up as we go.
Dad privacy?
Privacy is for people
who don't owe me heir.
Just checking on my investment.
What do you need?
Family reunion today.
Your grandfather's orders.
Aunt Ellen is coming.
With that young prick her son.
My dearest nephew.
Ok, yeah, ok, see you there.
Ava.
Are you pregnant yet?
Leave, ok?
Just asking
Jesus.
(Laughter)
You know, we could always use...
This.
Oh my God...
I'm in love?
[Ellen Plainview Quinn (Bobby's
aunt, obsessive and manipulative)]
Remember, united front.
[Falcon Quinn (Bobby's cousin... and Ava's ex-boyfriend)]
- Smile, be charming, don't give your uncle
Daniel any ammunition.
Got it, Mom. Charm offensive.
For god's sake.
Tell me you've proposed
to that college girl.
What's her name again?
About the girlfriend.
Propose tonight, Falcon.
Just lock it down before Bobby's
wife announces she's pregnant
and we're shut out from the
inheritance race completely.
Daniel...
Father
Bobby, dearest! Congratulations!
Aunt Ellen, this is my wife Ava.
Nice to meet you.
Ellen Quinn. Bobby's
aunt. And this is my son
Ava...
Falcon?
Enough. We're here for our father
and lunch starts at two. You
all know what that means.
You know my cousin?
Apparently.
That's not an answer.
Ask better questions.
Is that her?
Your girlfriend?
She was.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Figure it out.
Fast.
Now then!
Since we're all finally assembled
let's discuss why you're really here.
I've consulted with my psychic
about the day of my death.
She confirmed. I've less than a year.
In fact, I'll be 77 years, 7 months,
and seven days old exactly
Very specific woman. Rarely wrong.
Father, that's morbid.
That's realistic. And before I shuffle off
I intend to see the
Plainview Oil Corporation
pass to next generation Undivided. Intact.
To whichever branch
produces a family heir first.
You must be thrilled.
Marrying into all this.
It's been educational.
I'm sure. Berkeley
graduate, isn't it? Liberal arts?
Arts and Business, actually.
How practical. You'll understand
spreadsheets reviewing prenup.
There's no prenup.
No prenup. How trusting.
The marriage happened quickly.
Real love, you know
Paperwork's forthcoming.
And how are you finding the estate?
Must be quite different from
wherever they found you.
The thread count is higher.
Everything else is
about the same.
I like her! She's got spine.
Falcon, dear, you should
invite your girlfriend too!
I'd love to meet her! Bring
her the next family dinner.
I'll have my cook
prepare something special.
She's... we're not exactly
Not exactly what? Together?
Because if Bobby can
acquire a wife in under a week,
you can sure manage the one
you supposedly dated in college!
Sorry. Slipped.
The race is on. First viable
pregnancy wins the company.
To Family! Fortune! Fertility!
And may the best uterus win!
Excuse me.
Bobby, sit here.
Let me tell you about
the Mercury retrograde
in 2022. It changed
everything for Plainview Oil.
Let me tell you what what
my astrologer told me?
I should make a call.
But...
Ava, wait!
You said you married someone
who doesn't love you and now
You just sit there?!
And you told me you're a self-made guy!
And now I find out you're
part of this cock race!
And I'm just an incubator
for this
insane, Plainview chicken coop.
I bought this. Six months ago.
This could be us
Please... I know exactly where
brings me in your family.
Your grandfather is
running a genetic Olympics,
and I'm just a fucking
track here
Ava, this is unfair
Get away from my wife.
She was mine first!
Fuck off!
Hey!
We're leaving.
Where the hell do you
think you're taking me?
You'll see.
Three bedrooms.
Pick whatever one you
want, put a lock on the door.
Least here you can breathe.
The air's not toxic.
Tomorrow morning go for a walk on
the beach, explore.
You'll like it.
I gotta leave for the office early.
Make yourself at home.
So which of the bedrooms
has the infrared lights?
What?
You know, for optimum fertility.
Frankly I signed up for this.
I knew what the contract said.
Produce an heir, get paid.
But knowing something and living it
are different animals.
Still, this prison has better views.
My, my.
This is beautiful.
Hilda?
How did you find me?
I came with a friendly reminder.
And I won't be repeating this again, Eva.
I need the money.
You do realize that this
is all his family's money. Not mine.
Then this will do.
Look at her!
My poor Heather can't even walk.
And you're here, rolling in it
and still counting your husband's money?!
Here's what you're going to do.
You go to Daniel Plainview
and ask for an advance.
Tell him you're pregnant.
Are you out of your mind?
Watch your mouth, you little brat.
You're nothing without me.
Oops family emergencies, right?
Get your hands off my wife!
And there won't be a warning next time.
Heather's not sick. She never was.
Your family's bleeding you dry.
Oh, that's rich.
You know what, maybe you should
focus on your family first.
Oh my God, of course it's Gina.
You know what, pick it up.
Put it on the speakerphone.
I wanna talk to her.
Let's hear this Gina.
Where are you looking?
What is it?
Look, are you ever gonna tell me
about this Gina person?
Tell you what?
Are you sleeping with her?
I'm not going to dignify.
So you admit it.
You sound jealous.
No, don't flatter yourself.
I'm not. I just
that question with an answer.
My wife would be jealous, kinda refreshing.
Oh my God, don't turn
this into some kind of joke.
Hey! You loaded the gun
I'm just pulling the trigger.
You know, it's awfully quiet in here.
Should I be worried or relieved?
You plan to eat all my
leftovers or just the good stuff.
Well, technically they're mine too.
Community property, remember?
So now it's marriage.
Oh my God! Bobby!
Bobby! Wake up!
Bobby, Bobby, are you okay?
Hey, please be alive.
You staged this?
I like data.
You're insane.
And yet here you are.
Do you actually get off on this
manipulating people like chess pieces?
Not people.
Just you.
Great, that's so much better.
You ran towards me, Ava.
That's not contract behavior.
Or maybe I just didn't wanna deal
with the paperwork if you fried yourself.
Now I know.
Now what?
That if I was in danger, my jealous
wife would still run to save me.
So you do care.
You to give me the silent treatment,
or is this just foreplay?
Foreplay implies interest.
Liar.
Let go of me.
Say please.
Okay. That's cute
You like them?
I thought they'd make the room look cozier.
Who are you?
What are you doing here?
I'm Gina. I live here.
And you must be Ava.
Are we celebrating something, Gina?
No celebrations. Just caffeine.
Guessed you might need this.
I mean, really?
As if dealing with this circus
of a marriage wasn't enough,
now I have you to deal with? In
my home, in my life, like some
Specter I didn't invite!
I guess my presence is disruptive.
Disruptive?! I don't even know you!
I'm Gary's widow.
Gary's widow...?
Bobby's brother, Gary?
Lost him and our baby same day.
Gary, no!
Oh my god The car accident...
I couldn't go back home
until the contractors
dismantle the nursery and
Bobby offered me a place here.
But it's temporary. No secrets, no games.
I am so sorry
Where's Bobby?!
You're up early.
Couldn't sleep. Too
many ghosts in your house.
You know you should've told me about Gina.
And you would've what? Flipped
out like last night, but sooner?
No. I would've understood. I mean
What you're doing is good
Bobby You're a good person.
But we could've talked
it out like adults... I mean.
That's what trust looks like.
Trust?
Something that never
existed in the Plainview world.
But hey my family and all my plans
my dad and my grandfather
they're gonna be mortally wounded.
Now I challenge you to
trust me. Because if you don't
you need to stay out of this game.
Hi.
I swear, you two conspired
to blindside me with
a brunch fit for a five-star hotel.
Consider it a peace offering.
Or a warning
Oh a warning? I like my food with a
side of existential dread.
My plan is to shut down the oil company
and put everything into
my electric car startup company.
You're going to blow up
your whole family business?
It's not as reckless as it sounds.
The company's already
bleeding money. It's outdated
It's a reckoning!
Bobby. I had no choice but
to marry you, you know that!
Now, what the hell is
this about a reckoning?
If we're talking about trust, you really
I'm getting there.
When Gary and I were kids,
Daniel divorced our mother.
He took everything, from us.
She reached out many times and he
wouldn't allow us to see her.
After Bobby and Gary grew up, they
found out later that she
had taken her own life.
You see why Bobby's always so
careful and why he
can't just trust
anyone, even within the family.
I get it, but...
Oh no
Eva?
Let her be.
She needs a moment.
I guess I'm tied to this
family now Properly tied
No, no, no. Seriously?
Am I actually?
Maybe check the
expiration on that caviar tin
Bobby. Women don't throw up in the morning
just from some expired fish eggs.
You think she's
Okay, Ava, don't panic.
Maybe it's the caviar.
Do I tell him now?
Hello What?
She's been in there a
while I gotta go check on her.
Ava?
Can I help you miss?
Yes! Hugo Rayet, where is he? Is he...
He's been moved to the general ward.
Patient without private payments.
I don't get it Why?
Probably it happens when there's no
insurance or no cash.
What? Did Bobby just cut him? But why?
Hugo! There you are!
Bobby did this to you? He pulled
your care right out from under you?
You know, I'm going to talk to him.
I won't let him go.
We're going to figure it out.
I don't want anything from him.
Not a penny. Not a single
favor. Not even apologies.
I refused it all. The payments.
I was the one who told them to stop.
What?
Why?
You're being...
Principled? Yeah. Novel
concept in this town.
I don't care about my
life. Don't you get it?
I've made my peace with that.
There's only one thing
I need to do before I go.
Tell you the truth.
What truth?
About what happened 20 years ago.
Ava.
Your parents, the real ones,
they were building a
case against Plainview Oil.
Illegal dumpings, falsified
reports, contamination.
Your parents had all documentation.
The witnesses. They were one week away
from public hearings.
And then?
Their car went off Coast Highway.
Brakes failed.
Except brakes don't just fail on a new car.
I checked the wreckage
before it got hauled away.
Someone cut the brake
line. Clean. Professional.
So you're saying...
They were killed, Ava.
The Plainview Oil survived.
And when we took you,
the checks started arriving.
For the child's care, they said.
Wait, wait, what?
I wanted to fight.
I wanted to go to the police.
I wanted to do something.
But Hilda, she convinced me.
We could never prove anything that
we would end up dead too.
So you took the blood money.
I told myself it was just
Making sure you were taken care of.
That your parents would've
wanted you to have opportunities.
But I knew.
Deep down I've always knew
they were paying us to stay quiet.
And we did.
I need some air.
Where did you go? What happened?
Don't ever touch me again!
Eva, stop.
Ava, for fuck's sake!
No, stay away from me!
Can you just stop
and talk to me for one second?
You want the truth? Your
family killed my parents.
Say again? What?
20 years ago. My biological parents
were going to testify
against Plainview Oil.
They had evidence, and then a week
before their hearing, their car
went off the road!
Wait. That's what Hugo
said?
What?
After everything that you said
about your dad, you
think Hugo made it up?
No. He definitely didn't.
The Plainview sent money for my care.
Hush money.
That's your family's idea of charity.
I swear to God I didn't know.
How Plainview of you!
No. Now that's not fair to say!
You want to talk about fair?
Your family killed my parents!
Just let your company survive!
You're still their son.
That is still your inheritance, and
I can't-I can't do this anymore!
Eva.
We need to talk.
Of course. Come in.
I'll You're shaking!
Don't. I'm not here for comfort.
I'm here for answers.
What are you talking about?
Your family killed my parents.
April and Andy Sanders.
Ring a bell?
Or are you gonna give me the same wide-eyed.
I had no idea routine Bobby just did?
I'll tell you everything I know.
I found this a few days ago.
Don't even know why
it's still in this house.
Stuck in the back of Mom's filing cabinet
when I was looking for
Doesn't matter.
Point is, I found it.
I almost don't remember them I was three
Who killed them?
Uncle Daniel.
I married the murderer's son.
I sleep next to him. I carry
Leave him.
I'll help you. With the divorce.
With everything. You'll be free.
Free?
To what?
Free from them.
From the family that killed your parents.
Them?
It's pretty ironic coming
from you, don't you think?
I'm Quinn, not Plainview.
You can stay here.
You'd have space.
Privacy.
Safety.
Stay.
Please.
Let me help you.
Let me...
Let me make this right.
Why are you doing this?
Because I love you.
What happened?
Is it true?
You killed Ava's parents.
Oh, somebody killed Hilda.
Honestly, I'm not heartbroken.
What an unpleasant woman.
Don't fucking mock me right now.
I'm talking about April and Andy Sanders.
Ava's biological parents.
Environmentalist who died 20 years ago,
right before they're supposed
to testify against Plainville Oil.
Those dickheads were her parents?
Answer the question.
Did you kill them?
Calm down, Bobby.
The plan was kill them.
But whoever did save this family.
Jesus Christ,
you're actually admitting it?
I'm admitting with benefited.
There's a difference.
Not to Ava.
You knew them.
You knew the Sanders.
You knew that they had a daughter.
I knew of them.
I knew they were a threat.
And I knew they left
behind the three year old.
So I arranged for monthly
payments for her care, education.
My wife calls that blood money.
Remarkable, really?
How the world works
out of everyone in California.
You just happen to fall in love with her.
Oh, fall in love.
Dad told you that.
Let me correct this narrative
before it gets carved
into this family mythology.
I didn't fall in love.
I didn't choose her.
Dad forced this marriage.
Threatened her family.
Told her she' had to produce an heir
and marry me or he'd destroy the family!
You needed a wife.
She needed money. That's it.
You lied to me, Daniel.
This is what you built, grandpa.
I want a divorce.
I agree.
Help me get away from him.
Tomorrow.
I'll have the lawyers file for divorce.
First thing we'll say.
I don't know.
Irreconcilable differences
or wherever gets you out faster.
Yeah. Irreconcilable differences.
Feels like an understatement.
When his family murdered mine.
You should rest.
Guest bedroom is ready.
Consuela keeps it made up.
You'll have privacy. Okay.
Lock on the door.
Whatever you need.
Bathroom's en suite.
Towels and robe in the closet.
I can bring you something to eat.
I'm not hungry.
I don't think I'll ever be hungry again.
If you need anything.
I'm down the hall.
Thank you.
Did she believe you?
Every single word.
You haven't slept.
What are you looking for?
The real truth.
Are you sure it's not Daniel?
Can I?
Can I be sure of anything in this family?
No. Please.
But I don't think he's that good at acting.
I've been reading everything.
The timing, the method,
the way it got buried.
And Dad's that's a lot of things
but being subtle isn't one of them.
When he destroys people,
he does it with public records.
He likes winning where people can see it.
If not Daniel...
Who could benefit from this?
Mr. Rayette. Welcome.
I hope the journey was comfortable.
Why am I here?
Because family should stick together.
Don't you think?
(Bobby's message) Where are
you? Please just tell me you're safe.
(Ava's message) Don't look for me. I'm not
coming back. I'm in a better place without you.
I'm pregnant.
Okay. Don't panic, don't panic.
I'll raise this child myself. Right.
It's gonna be fine
I have to tell Bobby.
He has the right to know.
But how do I even start that conversation?
Should I just text him again?
That almost sounds like me.
Oh, Jesus.
You scared me.
I just live here. Remember?
Yes. People like to tell me that.
Look, I have something to tell you,
and it kind of changes everything
No. It's me who should
tell you. Come with me.
What is he doing here?
Apparently not all oil
magnates are evil, you know.
Hugo, what kind of pills are you taking?
I'm serious.
Ellen's been nothing but kind.
Had doctors come here.
Real ones.
Not the ones who treat
you like a billing code.
Ellen said she wants to
make sure I'm looked after.
That family takes care of family.
For Christ's sake, Hugo,
we are not her family.
Well, but we.
You and me are.
She wanted us to be together.
Look, Ellen is our guardian angel.
Yeah. I'm here. What did you find?
You sure? The brake lines...
And the mechanic who
serviced them works for
Aunt Ellen.
I have to tell you something.
Okay.
I'm pregnant.
Bobby's?
Yes, Hugo.
It's Bobby's not that exciting.
I'm going to tell him
he has the right to know.
Unlike what you and Hilda did,
keeping secrets for 20 years.
Ava..
Don't Ava me! Look
where your silence got us!
I'm going to tell Bobby
about the pregnancy.
And then I'm going to tell
him that I'm not coming back.
You can't do that alone.
Watch me. I can take care of myself.
Someone's here.
Ava...
Bobby.
Not a good time.
Where is my wife?
She's fine.
Bullshit.
Bullshit. Let me in.
No, you need to leave.
She doesn't want to see you.
Let me in!
Aren't you afraid of Bobby?
Bobby's a lot of things,
but violent like that. No.
It's Bobby.
He's gone mad, Ava,
he's smashing everything!
How bad is it?
It's bad.
See? Daniel killed your parents.
And Bobby, he wants to kill me!
That's the rotten side of the Plainviews!
Ava! Don't!
Bobby...
You're gonna have to listen to me, Ava!
You think you know
what's going on, you don't!
You're a monster!
Murderer!
Ellen, what the fuck?
You're just like your father.
Denying everything, pretending
innocence while people bleed for you!
Come on.
Ava... I'm so sorry for what you saw.
None of it should have happened.
He wasn't always like that.
Yeah, I know. But people change
when they're poisoned long enough.
Earlier before all this.
You wanted to tell me something?
You said something
that changes everything.
Whatever it is, darling say it.
We are here.
You're safe now.
I'm pregnant.
Oh my God Ava, you can't let him find out!
Bobby's?
You saw what he's capable of.
No. He wouldn't hurt me. Not like that.
You don't understand
when he learns, he'll take the child.
Just like his father did when
Bobby and Gary were kids.
That family destroys
everything it touches.
You want to keep your baby safe?
Then listen to me
Here's what we'll do.
You'll divorce Bobby. Cleanly, quietly.
And you'll marry Falcon.
What?
No. I'm not marrying anyone.
I'm going to have this baby,
and I'll have it alone.
That's it.
You think you'll be alone?
The Plainviews will never let you.
Bobby will contest everything
he'll want the child. He'll win.
Eva, please.
It's not just about papers.
If the world believes the baby is mine,
Bobby can't touch you. Or the child.
Ellen, you do realize
you're asking me to live a lie.
To use your son to protect me.
You think I'd ever let my son be used?
I'm his mother.
And I've seen how he looks at you.
He's loved you since Berkeley.
You were always the one, Ava.
It broke my heart to watch him
lose you to someone so cruel.
Stay here with us.
Let us keep you safe.
I'm here for my son, Bobby Plainview.
Process the bail.
Yes. He's right there, sir.
What happened to your son?
Have you picked up these vulgar manners
from your wife's family?
My wife
could be carrying your precious heir.
So choose your words carefully, father.
She's pregnant.
Maybe.
Probably. I don't know.
She's not exactly returning
my calls at the moment.
Father.
I hope I'm not disturbing
Ellen? Unexpected.
I needed to talk to you
about Daniel.
About Bobby.
About the things that been kept from you.
Did you know Ava and Falcon
were together at Berkeley?
Really?
Ava loved Falcon. Real
love. But Daniel destroyed it.
He manipulated her into
marrying Bobby instead.
So his branch of the family would win.
You're saying?
I'm saying Daniel treats
people like chess pieces.
Including his own son.
Including a girl whose
only crime was being poor
and vulnerable.
Falcon would have married her for love.
Bobby married her for inheritance.
Dad It was Ellen.
She killed Ava's parents.
What are you talking about?
It was the same method.
Cut brake lines.
Same mechanic did both jobs.
Of course.
Ellen orchestrated the accident
to clear the way for Falcon.
Daniel's been lying to you for years Dad.
Whatever Daniel and Bobby tell you now
whatever accusations they make
remember, they're desperate.
And desperate people lie.
They'll try to turn you against me.
Against Falcon.
But we are the ones who've been honest.
We're the ones who
actually care about this family.
I let you rest.
Just remember what I said.
Couldn't sleep either.
I need to tell Bobby about the baby.
Now? In the middle of the night?
He's probably in jail now.
At least wait until morning.
Think about when you're not.
Not what? Emotional? Pregnant?
You know all this stuff.
I love you. I've told you that.
And I'll accept whatever choice you make.
But?
But don't jump into a situation tonight
that you regret tomorrow.
I'm telling Bobby. In the
morning. And then I'm gone.
Okay. Get some sleep.
We'll figure it out in the morning.
Mom, we have a situation here.
Emergency.
Father, we need to talk.
What a night.
Ellen's been lying to you.
Ellen killed Gary.
She orchestrated the accident.
Ellen told me you would do anything
to turn me against her.
Dad.
Listen to me.
You're making a mistake.
You're letting Ellen manipulate everything.
You forced Ava into marriage.
You destroyed her
relationship with Falcon.
Ellen told me.
Yes, but...
You manipulated a
poor girl for inheritance.
Petty.
Scheming everything.
I've raised you not to be.
I want you to leave.
Dad... Don't you hear me?
Ellen killed Gary.
Your heir.
And you're choosing to believe her
over me.
Get out!
Okay,
we're leaving here.
Can I have a word with you, grandpa,
before I leave?
Eva. I'm
so sorry to be waking you up,
but it's urgent.
Come on, dear.
Oh, good.
You're here.
We were just having a conversation
about loyalty.
What did you do to Hugo?
Sedative.
For now.
But this one.
This puts him to sleep permanently.
Unless.
Unless you do exactly what we agreed on.
Divorce. Bobby.
Marry me.
The baby become ours.
You're not like this, Falcon
I know you're not.
How touching
you think he'll choose you over family?
Oh. You've got this.
I'll ask you for one thing, grandpa.
Just stay here and watch.
Listen.
Who is this?
It's grandpa Cecil.
Everyone say hello.
He's watching.
Ava.
Oh! Oh, just do it, mom.
Kill him.
Mom!
Ellen, no!!!
Falcon.
My boy.
Oh, no.
No! Oh!
Ava! Hey!
Are you hurt?
I'm okay. I think.
I mean.
My boy.
That's my son
he needs me.
That's my wife
sir you need to step aside
you can follow us in your car.
We need space to work.
Tell me what happened to my son.
Someone
tell me.
Ma'am, your charges now include
involuntary man slaughter.
File complaint.
Falcon Plainview-Quinn was pronounced dead
at 2:47 AM.
I want my son.
I thought I lost you...
I'm safe.
Me and our baby.
The heir is fine, father.
Healthy.
We won.
I was afraid
I'd die without leaving an heir.
Turns out I already did.
What?
Both my children are dead inside.
Helen's a murderer,
but at least she was fighting for her son.
At least she loved something
more than the company.
And you,
Daniel.
You're not human.
You never even saw
your children as people.
Just tools.
Instruments.
Return on investment.
Hugo. Why? How?
Oh, look at me, Ava.
I'm getting better.
Can you believe it?
I'm saving up for home care.
This is a miracle.
But you should stay at the beach house.
Oh, no.
Definitely. I'm not imposing on newlyweds.
Not imposing... you're family.
I return to my apartment.
I just need to solve one problem.
And here she is.
Hugo.
Ava, we need to talk.
You have nothing to talk about with Ava.
And actually, I'm filing for divorce.
Finally. Should have done this years ago.
What?
No, you can't do that to me.
Heather. Say something.
Hilda, I warned you.
You don't have to worry, Bobby.
We're leaving.
Hilda is not going to disturb you anymore.
Love you, little birdie.
Let's go.
Cecil left everything to us.
And to you, Gina.
Equal thirds, the company, the estate.
All of it.
But wait.
So he gave us his whole legacy just so we
could dismantle the whole oil thing.
Grandpa gave his blessing
for the electric car startup.
Says nobody could stop the progress.
We should celebrate.
I'll make.
You're leaving?
Time to
you two need to figure out what comes next.
You need some space.
But I'll miss you.
I'm not disappearing, but.
My house is ready.
I can go back home.
- Are you sure?
- Positive.
Okay.
But promise
that you'll be the godmother
of our baby.
Promise.
Build something good.
Okay.
Something that doesn't eat itself.
We'll try.
- I'm going to marry a complete stranger?
And he's not even here yet?
[Hilda & Heather (Ava's
foster mother & sister)]
I googled him,
the groom.
He's weird
I know.
But who cares?
This family is loaded.
This family is grotesque.
Father!
Where the hell is the groom?
How on earth did I end up here?
And what am I going to say to Falcon?
My God!
He deserves some explanation.
Wow.
Hi.
What's your name again?
Ava.
And you are?
You'll see.
Dearly beloved.
Why does he need a contract wife?
Why me?
Do you, Bobby Plainview take this woman?
Yeah, yeah.
Fine.
And do you, Ava.
Yes, I do.
I now pronounce you married.
You may kiss the bride.
You have no idea what
you've gotten yourself into.
(Three days earlier)
She's pulling the plug. Hugo's gonna die
Twenty years he's been more than a father.
And she's going to kill him
over numbers on a spreadsheet.
This is it, bitches!
Say your last words.
What? You came at us
like a goddamn missile.
(FROM THE PHONE) Oh
my God! What is going on?!
Gary, no!
I'm gonna destroy you for this.
Oh my God.
What will happen to us?
You.
It's all your fault.
And you're going to
pay every single dollar.
Mr. Planview,
I'm so sorry.
Your son didn't make it
And his wife your daughter-in-law
Due to stress, she had a miscarriage.
I'm so sorry, Sir
Both?
I think I can figure it out.
I met this guy in college, Falcon.
He promised he would help me settle in.
So go call this Falcon now.
And he better make you a really good deal.
Falcon?
What a small world.
Here's what's going to happen.
For me not to destroy you
and your pathetic family.
You must marry my younger son
and give him a baby within in nine months.
Excuse me?
She'll do it.
What? No, that's
literally human trafficking.
Otherwise, you can all
start digging your graves.
No!
She'll be there.
I felt so humiliated.
I was literally sold by my stepmother
to these pervert oil billionaires.
[Bobby Plainview (also
married against his will)]
[Cecil Plainview (patriarch
of the oil billionnaire clan)]
The timing is good. Our family.
[Daniel Plainview (Cecil's son & Bobby's Father)]
- needed to balance out.
Gary's passing with new beginnings.
At least Bobby's given
us something to celebrate.
Young love.
Or perhaps the girl's already expecting.
I should check on the arrangements.
Enough.
Be grateful she's pretty.
That's the only thing going right today.
You're a Plainview! You have obligations.
You will stand by this marriage
and give this family an heir!
And you'll take whatever I make
and slap a Plainview
label on it, won't you?
Well, Gina can't
give me a grandchild, so you will.
With Ava.
Enough said.
Gina...
So that's it.
There's an infertile girlfriend.
And I am
the surrogate?
Okay, he's a spoiled arrogant brat.
And what am I doing here?
This is pure madness.
God, he wasn't supposed to look like this.
I overheard something, at the wedding I
We need to set up some rules.
Rule number one.
Don't ask me questions.
Wait, no. You can't just...
Shh.
Rule number two.
To not argue with me.
Rule number three.
Obey everything I ask.
Take off your dress.
Or should I remind you why you're here?
You're beautiful.
Well, Gina can't give me
a grandchild, so you will.
With Ava.
What about Gina?
You don't get to utter her name
You're leaving?
Gina? How are you?
Right.
He spent our wedding night with this Gina.
But why do I even care?
After all, I'm just a deposit.
A bail against the flail
to protect my family.
Hello?
Oh my God.
I'll be right there.
Hugo?
[Hugo Rayette (Ava's foster father)]
You're back to life. It's a miracle.
It is, little birdie.
They told me your husband
paid for the treatment.
I don't understand.
Bobby paid for my dad's therapy.
Is this some kind of mistake?
Bobby.
I'm Ava's husband.
Mr. Rayette pleasure to meet you.
I'm Bobby Plainview.
Plainview?
Hugo, are you okay?
I'm fine, little birdie.
Now, if you don't mind...
I have to steal Ava away from you..
Anything but that.
Wait, do you know my stepfather?
No time.
Now, we're meeting my
friends from Europe, and the
next part of this spectacular production.
I'm gonna need you to
look Plainview appropriate.
You think you can handle that?
What? No comment?
No compliment?
You look appropriate.
Get in.
Try not to talk too much.
Cool. He brought me here
like it meant something,
and then Ava, girls, girls,
Ava, and disappeared.
How am I supposed to act
like a happy couple when
I'm on my own?
Cute dress.
Looks like Zara.
Seriously?
That price tag read 50 grand.
Well, in fact, it's Tadashi Sho yee..
It's a Sho-Dji - not a Sho-Wee
I told you girls... it's too wannabe.
Cheers!
Right?
What's up bro?
Brother!
What the fuck do you want!?
You need a refill, I guess.
Just go. I'll sleep here.
You're drunk.
No, no, no... What do you think?
I'm cold.
I think that you're a hot mess.
And you are getting undressed.
Arms up.
Is this how we consummate the marriage?
You know the rules.
Yeah, Mr. Boundaries?
Are you leaving?
Use some sleep trouble.
Right... sweetheart.
Hey, Falcon.
I just saw your message.
What do you mean? We need to break up.
We need to talk.
Actually, there's something
that I need to tell you.
I've married someone else.
Married?
You know what, Eva?
You're not even funny.
Hey.
About last night, I...
Yeah.
Tried to seduce me while drunk.
Not exactly a scandal by
California standards, so...
I was planning on giving
you a more eloquent apology,
but yeah, let's go with that.
By the way, thank you for rescuing me.
That party turned into a disaster.
By the way, what did that guy say to you?
Did he touch you?
No, no. He was just talking shit
about your soccer skills.
I didn't like it.
Since when?
Since you're my husband.
So anyways, I woke up
sober and I realized that
I had completely embarrassed myself.
Not embarrassed, you were honest.
And, uh...
You want me present tense.
Your ego really doesn't need any help.
It's not ego... observation.
So what? What if I do want you?
Well then we'd finally be on the same page.
No more Mr. Boundaries.
No rules this time?
Make them up as we go.
Dad privacy?
Privacy is for people
who don't owe me heir.
Just checking on my investment.
What do you need?
Family reunion today.
Your grandfather's orders.
Aunt Ellen is coming.
With that young prick her son.
My dearest nephew.
Ok, yeah, ok, see you there.
Ava.
Are you pregnant yet?
Leave, ok?
Just asking
Jesus.
(Laughter)
You know, we could always use...
This.
Oh my God...
I'm in love?
[Ellen Plainview Quinn (Bobby's
aunt, obsessive and manipulative)]
Remember, united front.
[Falcon Quinn (Bobby's cousin... and Ava's ex-boyfriend)]
- Smile, be charming, don't give your uncle
Daniel any ammunition.
Got it, Mom. Charm offensive.
For god's sake.
Tell me you've proposed
to that college girl.
What's her name again?
About the girlfriend.
Propose tonight, Falcon.
Just lock it down before Bobby's
wife announces she's pregnant
and we're shut out from the
inheritance race completely.
Daniel...
Father
Bobby, dearest! Congratulations!
Aunt Ellen, this is my wife Ava.
Nice to meet you.
Ellen Quinn. Bobby's
aunt. And this is my son
Ava...
Falcon?
Enough. We're here for our father
and lunch starts at two. You
all know what that means.
You know my cousin?
Apparently.
That's not an answer.
Ask better questions.
Is that her?
Your girlfriend?
She was.
Maybe.
I don't know.
Figure it out.
Fast.
Now then!
Since we're all finally assembled
let's discuss why you're really here.
I've consulted with my psychic
about the day of my death.
She confirmed. I've less than a year.
In fact, I'll be 77 years, 7 months,
and seven days old exactly
Very specific woman. Rarely wrong.
Father, that's morbid.
That's realistic. And before I shuffle off
I intend to see the
Plainview Oil Corporation
pass to next generation Undivided. Intact.
To whichever branch
produces a family heir first.
You must be thrilled.
Marrying into all this.
It's been educational.
I'm sure. Berkeley
graduate, isn't it? Liberal arts?
Arts and Business, actually.
How practical. You'll understand
spreadsheets reviewing prenup.
There's no prenup.
No prenup. How trusting.
The marriage happened quickly.
Real love, you know
Paperwork's forthcoming.
And how are you finding the estate?
Must be quite different from
wherever they found you.
The thread count is higher.
Everything else is
about the same.
I like her! She's got spine.
Falcon, dear, you should
invite your girlfriend too!
I'd love to meet her! Bring
her the next family dinner.
I'll have my cook
prepare something special.
She's... we're not exactly
Not exactly what? Together?
Because if Bobby can
acquire a wife in under a week,
you can sure manage the one
you supposedly dated in college!
Sorry. Slipped.
The race is on. First viable
pregnancy wins the company.
To Family! Fortune! Fertility!
And may the best uterus win!
Excuse me.
Bobby, sit here.
Let me tell you about
the Mercury retrograde
in 2022. It changed
everything for Plainview Oil.
Let me tell you what what
my astrologer told me?
I should make a call.
But...
Ava, wait!
You said you married someone
who doesn't love you and now
You just sit there?!
And you told me you're a self-made guy!
And now I find out you're
part of this cock race!
And I'm just an incubator
for this
insane, Plainview chicken coop.
I bought this. Six months ago.
This could be us
Please... I know exactly where
brings me in your family.
Your grandfather is
running a genetic Olympics,
and I'm just a fucking
track here
Ava, this is unfair
Get away from my wife.
She was mine first!
Fuck off!
Hey!
We're leaving.
Where the hell do you
think you're taking me?
You'll see.
Three bedrooms.
Pick whatever one you
want, put a lock on the door.
Least here you can breathe.
The air's not toxic.
Tomorrow morning go for a walk on
the beach, explore.
You'll like it.
I gotta leave for the office early.
Make yourself at home.
So which of the bedrooms
has the infrared lights?
What?
You know, for optimum fertility.
Frankly I signed up for this.
I knew what the contract said.
Produce an heir, get paid.
But knowing something and living it
are different animals.
Still, this prison has better views.
My, my.
This is beautiful.
Hilda?
How did you find me?
I came with a friendly reminder.
And I won't be repeating this again, Eva.
I need the money.
You do realize that this
is all his family's money. Not mine.
Then this will do.
Look at her!
My poor Heather can't even walk.
And you're here, rolling in it
and still counting your husband's money?!
Here's what you're going to do.
You go to Daniel Plainview
and ask for an advance.
Tell him you're pregnant.
Are you out of your mind?
Watch your mouth, you little brat.
You're nothing without me.
Oops family emergencies, right?
Get your hands off my wife!
And there won't be a warning next time.
Heather's not sick. She never was.
Your family's bleeding you dry.
Oh, that's rich.
You know what, maybe you should
focus on your family first.
Oh my God, of course it's Gina.
You know what, pick it up.
Put it on the speakerphone.
I wanna talk to her.
Let's hear this Gina.
Where are you looking?
What is it?
Look, are you ever gonna tell me
about this Gina person?
Tell you what?
Are you sleeping with her?
I'm not going to dignify.
So you admit it.
You sound jealous.
No, don't flatter yourself.
I'm not. I just
that question with an answer.
My wife would be jealous, kinda refreshing.
Oh my God, don't turn
this into some kind of joke.
Hey! You loaded the gun
I'm just pulling the trigger.
You know, it's awfully quiet in here.
Should I be worried or relieved?
You plan to eat all my
leftovers or just the good stuff.
Well, technically they're mine too.
Community property, remember?
So now it's marriage.
Oh my God! Bobby!
Bobby! Wake up!
Bobby, Bobby, are you okay?
Hey, please be alive.
You staged this?
I like data.
You're insane.
And yet here you are.
Do you actually get off on this
manipulating people like chess pieces?
Not people.
Just you.
Great, that's so much better.
You ran towards me, Ava.
That's not contract behavior.
Or maybe I just didn't wanna deal
with the paperwork if you fried yourself.
Now I know.
Now what?
That if I was in danger, my jealous
wife would still run to save me.
So you do care.
You to give me the silent treatment,
or is this just foreplay?
Foreplay implies interest.
Liar.
Let go of me.
Say please.
Okay. That's cute
You like them?
I thought they'd make the room look cozier.
Who are you?
What are you doing here?
I'm Gina. I live here.
And you must be Ava.
Are we celebrating something, Gina?
No celebrations. Just caffeine.
Guessed you might need this.
I mean, really?
As if dealing with this circus
of a marriage wasn't enough,
now I have you to deal with? In
my home, in my life, like some
Specter I didn't invite!
I guess my presence is disruptive.
Disruptive?! I don't even know you!
I'm Gary's widow.
Gary's widow...?
Bobby's brother, Gary?
Lost him and our baby same day.
Gary, no!
Oh my god The car accident...
I couldn't go back home
until the contractors
dismantle the nursery and
Bobby offered me a place here.
But it's temporary. No secrets, no games.
I am so sorry
Where's Bobby?!
You're up early.
Couldn't sleep. Too
many ghosts in your house.
You know you should've told me about Gina.
And you would've what? Flipped
out like last night, but sooner?
No. I would've understood. I mean
What you're doing is good
Bobby You're a good person.
But we could've talked
it out like adults... I mean.
That's what trust looks like.
Trust?
Something that never
existed in the Plainview world.
But hey my family and all my plans
my dad and my grandfather
they're gonna be mortally wounded.
Now I challenge you to
trust me. Because if you don't
you need to stay out of this game.
Hi.
I swear, you two conspired
to blindside me with
a brunch fit for a five-star hotel.
Consider it a peace offering.
Or a warning
Oh a warning? I like my food with a
side of existential dread.
My plan is to shut down the oil company
and put everything into
my electric car startup company.
You're going to blow up
your whole family business?
It's not as reckless as it sounds.
The company's already
bleeding money. It's outdated
It's a reckoning!
Bobby. I had no choice but
to marry you, you know that!
Now, what the hell is
this about a reckoning?
If we're talking about trust, you really
I'm getting there.
When Gary and I were kids,
Daniel divorced our mother.
He took everything, from us.
She reached out many times and he
wouldn't allow us to see her.
After Bobby and Gary grew up, they
found out later that she
had taken her own life.
You see why Bobby's always so
careful and why he
can't just trust
anyone, even within the family.
I get it, but...
Oh no
Eva?
Let her be.
She needs a moment.
I guess I'm tied to this
family now Properly tied
No, no, no. Seriously?
Am I actually?
Maybe check the
expiration on that caviar tin
Bobby. Women don't throw up in the morning
just from some expired fish eggs.
You think she's
Okay, Ava, don't panic.
Maybe it's the caviar.
Do I tell him now?
Hello What?
She's been in there a
while I gotta go check on her.
Ava?
Can I help you miss?
Yes! Hugo Rayet, where is he? Is he...
He's been moved to the general ward.
Patient without private payments.
I don't get it Why?
Probably it happens when there's no
insurance or no cash.
What? Did Bobby just cut him? But why?
Hugo! There you are!
Bobby did this to you? He pulled
your care right out from under you?
You know, I'm going to talk to him.
I won't let him go.
We're going to figure it out.
I don't want anything from him.
Not a penny. Not a single
favor. Not even apologies.
I refused it all. The payments.
I was the one who told them to stop.
What?
Why?
You're being...
Principled? Yeah. Novel
concept in this town.
I don't care about my
life. Don't you get it?
I've made my peace with that.
There's only one thing
I need to do before I go.
Tell you the truth.
What truth?
About what happened 20 years ago.
Ava.
Your parents, the real ones,
they were building a
case against Plainview Oil.
Illegal dumpings, falsified
reports, contamination.
Your parents had all documentation.
The witnesses. They were one week away
from public hearings.
And then?
Their car went off Coast Highway.
Brakes failed.
Except brakes don't just fail on a new car.
I checked the wreckage
before it got hauled away.
Someone cut the brake
line. Clean. Professional.
So you're saying...
They were killed, Ava.
The Plainview Oil survived.
And when we took you,
the checks started arriving.
For the child's care, they said.
Wait, wait, what?
I wanted to fight.
I wanted to go to the police.
I wanted to do something.
But Hilda, she convinced me.
We could never prove anything that
we would end up dead too.
So you took the blood money.
I told myself it was just
Making sure you were taken care of.
That your parents would've
wanted you to have opportunities.
But I knew.
Deep down I've always knew
they were paying us to stay quiet.
And we did.
I need some air.
Where did you go? What happened?
Don't ever touch me again!
Eva, stop.
Ava, for fuck's sake!
No, stay away from me!
Can you just stop
and talk to me for one second?
You want the truth? Your
family killed my parents.
Say again? What?
20 years ago. My biological parents
were going to testify
against Plainview Oil.
They had evidence, and then a week
before their hearing, their car
went off the road!
Wait. That's what Hugo
said?
What?
After everything that you said
about your dad, you
think Hugo made it up?
No. He definitely didn't.
The Plainview sent money for my care.
Hush money.
That's your family's idea of charity.
I swear to God I didn't know.
How Plainview of you!
No. Now that's not fair to say!
You want to talk about fair?
Your family killed my parents!
Just let your company survive!
You're still their son.
That is still your inheritance, and
I can't-I can't do this anymore!
Eva.
We need to talk.
Of course. Come in.
I'll You're shaking!
Don't. I'm not here for comfort.
I'm here for answers.
What are you talking about?
Your family killed my parents.
April and Andy Sanders.
Ring a bell?
Or are you gonna give me the same wide-eyed.
I had no idea routine Bobby just did?
I'll tell you everything I know.
I found this a few days ago.
Don't even know why
it's still in this house.
Stuck in the back of Mom's filing cabinet
when I was looking for
Doesn't matter.
Point is, I found it.
I almost don't remember them I was three
Who killed them?
Uncle Daniel.
I married the murderer's son.
I sleep next to him. I carry
Leave him.
I'll help you. With the divorce.
With everything. You'll be free.
Free?
To what?
Free from them.
From the family that killed your parents.
Them?
It's pretty ironic coming
from you, don't you think?
I'm Quinn, not Plainview.
You can stay here.
You'd have space.
Privacy.
Safety.
Stay.
Please.
Let me help you.
Let me...
Let me make this right.
Why are you doing this?
Because I love you.
What happened?
Is it true?
You killed Ava's parents.
Oh, somebody killed Hilda.
Honestly, I'm not heartbroken.
What an unpleasant woman.
Don't fucking mock me right now.
I'm talking about April and Andy Sanders.
Ava's biological parents.
Environmentalist who died 20 years ago,
right before they're supposed
to testify against Plainville Oil.
Those dickheads were her parents?
Answer the question.
Did you kill them?
Calm down, Bobby.
The plan was kill them.
But whoever did save this family.
Jesus Christ,
you're actually admitting it?
I'm admitting with benefited.
There's a difference.
Not to Ava.
You knew them.
You knew the Sanders.
You knew that they had a daughter.
I knew of them.
I knew they were a threat.
And I knew they left
behind the three year old.
So I arranged for monthly
payments for her care, education.
My wife calls that blood money.
Remarkable, really?
How the world works
out of everyone in California.
You just happen to fall in love with her.
Oh, fall in love.
Dad told you that.
Let me correct this narrative
before it gets carved
into this family mythology.
I didn't fall in love.
I didn't choose her.
Dad forced this marriage.
Threatened her family.
Told her she' had to produce an heir
and marry me or he'd destroy the family!
You needed a wife.
She needed money. That's it.
You lied to me, Daniel.
This is what you built, grandpa.
I want a divorce.
I agree.
Help me get away from him.
Tomorrow.
I'll have the lawyers file for divorce.
First thing we'll say.
I don't know.
Irreconcilable differences
or wherever gets you out faster.
Yeah. Irreconcilable differences.
Feels like an understatement.
When his family murdered mine.
You should rest.
Guest bedroom is ready.
Consuela keeps it made up.
You'll have privacy. Okay.
Lock on the door.
Whatever you need.
Bathroom's en suite.
Towels and robe in the closet.
I can bring you something to eat.
I'm not hungry.
I don't think I'll ever be hungry again.
If you need anything.
I'm down the hall.
Thank you.
Did she believe you?
Every single word.
You haven't slept.
What are you looking for?
The real truth.
Are you sure it's not Daniel?
Can I?
Can I be sure of anything in this family?
No. Please.
But I don't think he's that good at acting.
I've been reading everything.
The timing, the method,
the way it got buried.
And Dad's that's a lot of things
but being subtle isn't one of them.
When he destroys people,
he does it with public records.
He likes winning where people can see it.
If not Daniel...
Who could benefit from this?
Mr. Rayette. Welcome.
I hope the journey was comfortable.
Why am I here?
Because family should stick together.
Don't you think?
(Bobby's message) Where are
you? Please just tell me you're safe.
(Ava's message) Don't look for me. I'm not
coming back. I'm in a better place without you.
I'm pregnant.
Okay. Don't panic, don't panic.
I'll raise this child myself. Right.
It's gonna be fine
I have to tell Bobby.
He has the right to know.
But how do I even start that conversation?
Should I just text him again?
That almost sounds like me.
Oh, Jesus.
You scared me.
I just live here. Remember?
Yes. People like to tell me that.
Look, I have something to tell you,
and it kind of changes everything
No. It's me who should
tell you. Come with me.
What is he doing here?
Apparently not all oil
magnates are evil, you know.
Hugo, what kind of pills are you taking?
I'm serious.
Ellen's been nothing but kind.
Had doctors come here.
Real ones.
Not the ones who treat
you like a billing code.
Ellen said she wants to
make sure I'm looked after.
That family takes care of family.
For Christ's sake, Hugo,
we are not her family.
Well, but we.
You and me are.
She wanted us to be together.
Look, Ellen is our guardian angel.
Yeah. I'm here. What did you find?
You sure? The brake lines...
And the mechanic who
serviced them works for
Aunt Ellen.
I have to tell you something.
Okay.
I'm pregnant.
Bobby's?
Yes, Hugo.
It's Bobby's not that exciting.
I'm going to tell him
he has the right to know.
Unlike what you and Hilda did,
keeping secrets for 20 years.
Ava..
Don't Ava me! Look
where your silence got us!
I'm going to tell Bobby
about the pregnancy.
And then I'm going to tell
him that I'm not coming back.
You can't do that alone.
Watch me. I can take care of myself.
Someone's here.
Ava...
Bobby.
Not a good time.
Where is my wife?
She's fine.
Bullshit.
Bullshit. Let me in.
No, you need to leave.
She doesn't want to see you.
Let me in!
Aren't you afraid of Bobby?
Bobby's a lot of things,
but violent like that. No.
It's Bobby.
He's gone mad, Ava,
he's smashing everything!
How bad is it?
It's bad.
See? Daniel killed your parents.
And Bobby, he wants to kill me!
That's the rotten side of the Plainviews!
Ava! Don't!
Bobby...
You're gonna have to listen to me, Ava!
You think you know
what's going on, you don't!
You're a monster!
Murderer!
Ellen, what the fuck?
You're just like your father.
Denying everything, pretending
innocence while people bleed for you!
Come on.
Ava... I'm so sorry for what you saw.
None of it should have happened.
He wasn't always like that.
Yeah, I know. But people change
when they're poisoned long enough.
Earlier before all this.
You wanted to tell me something?
You said something
that changes everything.
Whatever it is, darling say it.
We are here.
You're safe now.
I'm pregnant.
Oh my God Ava, you can't let him find out!
Bobby's?
You saw what he's capable of.
No. He wouldn't hurt me. Not like that.
You don't understand
when he learns, he'll take the child.
Just like his father did when
Bobby and Gary were kids.
That family destroys
everything it touches.
You want to keep your baby safe?
Then listen to me
Here's what we'll do.
You'll divorce Bobby. Cleanly, quietly.
And you'll marry Falcon.
What?
No. I'm not marrying anyone.
I'm going to have this baby,
and I'll have it alone.
That's it.
You think you'll be alone?
The Plainviews will never let you.
Bobby will contest everything
he'll want the child. He'll win.
Eva, please.
It's not just about papers.
If the world believes the baby is mine,
Bobby can't touch you. Or the child.
Ellen, you do realize
you're asking me to live a lie.
To use your son to protect me.
You think I'd ever let my son be used?
I'm his mother.
And I've seen how he looks at you.
He's loved you since Berkeley.
You were always the one, Ava.
It broke my heart to watch him
lose you to someone so cruel.
Stay here with us.
Let us keep you safe.
I'm here for my son, Bobby Plainview.
Process the bail.
Yes. He's right there, sir.
What happened to your son?
Have you picked up these vulgar manners
from your wife's family?
My wife
could be carrying your precious heir.
So choose your words carefully, father.
She's pregnant.
Maybe.
Probably. I don't know.
She's not exactly returning
my calls at the moment.
Father.
I hope I'm not disturbing
Ellen? Unexpected.
I needed to talk to you
about Daniel.
About Bobby.
About the things that been kept from you.
Did you know Ava and Falcon
were together at Berkeley?
Really?
Ava loved Falcon. Real
love. But Daniel destroyed it.
He manipulated her into
marrying Bobby instead.
So his branch of the family would win.
You're saying?
I'm saying Daniel treats
people like chess pieces.
Including his own son.
Including a girl whose
only crime was being poor
and vulnerable.
Falcon would have married her for love.
Bobby married her for inheritance.
Dad It was Ellen.
She killed Ava's parents.
What are you talking about?
It was the same method.
Cut brake lines.
Same mechanic did both jobs.
Of course.
Ellen orchestrated the accident
to clear the way for Falcon.
Daniel's been lying to you for years Dad.
Whatever Daniel and Bobby tell you now
whatever accusations they make
remember, they're desperate.
And desperate people lie.
They'll try to turn you against me.
Against Falcon.
But we are the ones who've been honest.
We're the ones who
actually care about this family.
I let you rest.
Just remember what I said.
Couldn't sleep either.
I need to tell Bobby about the baby.
Now? In the middle of the night?
He's probably in jail now.
At least wait until morning.
Think about when you're not.
Not what? Emotional? Pregnant?
You know all this stuff.
I love you. I've told you that.
And I'll accept whatever choice you make.
But?
But don't jump into a situation tonight
that you regret tomorrow.
I'm telling Bobby. In the
morning. And then I'm gone.
Okay. Get some sleep.
We'll figure it out in the morning.
Mom, we have a situation here.
Emergency.
Father, we need to talk.
What a night.
Ellen's been lying to you.
Ellen killed Gary.
She orchestrated the accident.
Ellen told me you would do anything
to turn me against her.
Dad.
Listen to me.
You're making a mistake.
You're letting Ellen manipulate everything.
You forced Ava into marriage.
You destroyed her
relationship with Falcon.
Ellen told me.
Yes, but...
You manipulated a
poor girl for inheritance.
Petty.
Scheming everything.
I've raised you not to be.
I want you to leave.
Dad... Don't you hear me?
Ellen killed Gary.
Your heir.
And you're choosing to believe her
over me.
Get out!
Okay,
we're leaving here.
Can I have a word with you, grandpa,
before I leave?
Eva. I'm
so sorry to be waking you up,
but it's urgent.
Come on, dear.
Oh, good.
You're here.
We were just having a conversation
about loyalty.
What did you do to Hugo?
Sedative.
For now.
But this one.
This puts him to sleep permanently.
Unless.
Unless you do exactly what we agreed on.
Divorce. Bobby.
Marry me.
The baby become ours.
You're not like this, Falcon
I know you're not.
How touching
you think he'll choose you over family?
Oh. You've got this.
I'll ask you for one thing, grandpa.
Just stay here and watch.
Listen.
Who is this?
It's grandpa Cecil.
Everyone say hello.
He's watching.
Ava.
Oh! Oh, just do it, mom.
Kill him.
Mom!
Ellen, no!!!
Falcon.
My boy.
Oh, no.
No! Oh!
Ava! Hey!
Are you hurt?
I'm okay. I think.
I mean.
My boy.
That's my son
he needs me.
That's my wife
sir you need to step aside
you can follow us in your car.
We need space to work.
Tell me what happened to my son.
Someone
tell me.
Ma'am, your charges now include
involuntary man slaughter.
File complaint.
Falcon Plainview-Quinn was pronounced dead
at 2:47 AM.
I want my son.
I thought I lost you...
I'm safe.
Me and our baby.
The heir is fine, father.
Healthy.
We won.
I was afraid
I'd die without leaving an heir.
Turns out I already did.
What?
Both my children are dead inside.
Helen's a murderer,
but at least she was fighting for her son.
At least she loved something
more than the company.
And you,
Daniel.
You're not human.
You never even saw
your children as people.
Just tools.
Instruments.
Return on investment.
Hugo. Why? How?
Oh, look at me, Ava.
I'm getting better.
Can you believe it?
I'm saving up for home care.
This is a miracle.
But you should stay at the beach house.
Oh, no.
Definitely. I'm not imposing on newlyweds.
Not imposing... you're family.
I return to my apartment.
I just need to solve one problem.
And here she is.
Hugo.
Ava, we need to talk.
You have nothing to talk about with Ava.
And actually, I'm filing for divorce.
Finally. Should have done this years ago.
What?
No, you can't do that to me.
Heather. Say something.
Hilda, I warned you.
You don't have to worry, Bobby.
We're leaving.
Hilda is not going to disturb you anymore.
Love you, little birdie.
Let's go.
Cecil left everything to us.
And to you, Gina.
Equal thirds, the company, the estate.
All of it.
But wait.
So he gave us his whole legacy just so we
could dismantle the whole oil thing.
Grandpa gave his blessing
for the electric car startup.
Says nobody could stop the progress.
We should celebrate.
I'll make.
You're leaving?
Time to
you two need to figure out what comes next.
You need some space.
But I'll miss you.
I'm not disappearing, but.
My house is ready.
I can go back home.
- Are you sure?
- Positive.
Okay.
But promise
that you'll be the godmother
of our baby.
Promise.
Build something good.
Okay.
Something that doesn't eat itself.
We'll try.
