Miracle: The Boys of '80 (2026) Movie Script

Guys, we've got some footage
we wanted to show you.
- Is that Janny in there?
- That's Janny!
'Cause it scored!
Were you guys
"the class" of college hockey?
They didn't take it serious,
they didn't play
with the necessary intensity.
They just sorta took a night off.
I said, right from day one
I'm not going to be your best friend.
I admire your talents and I'm going to
push you because I admire your talents.
A lot of these guys,
being college All-Americans
said they were never pushed like that.
And I wasn't trying
to put greatness into anybody,
I was trying to pull it out.
How did you understand
your dad's fixation on the Soviets?
My mind was made up early.
Our approach to the game
was going to be entirely different.
What makes the Soviets so great?
Tremendous conditioning.
So, with every time you play
the great European teams
you play for a period or two,
you hit the wall and die.
Can't keep up.
So we weren't gonna hit the wall.
I put them in deep water.
Did a lot of things
through our training that was
getting them out of that comfort zone.
So I thought this hockey club
was the best-conditioned hockey club,
outside of the Soviets, in the world.
How safe did you all feel
about making the team?
Were you safe, Phil?
I went through it personally.
I was close to the '60 Olympic team.
Two days before the Olympics,
I get a knock on the door.
The general manager says,
"Go see the coach."
And he says, "Herb, I gotta release you."
I was the last guy cut.
So I came home.
I'm watching this thing on TV.
The Americans got hot.
They won our country's first gold medal.
My father looked over at me.
He says, "Looks like the coach
cut the right guy, didn't he?"
Just
BANG!
I knew that day was coming.
And I just I didn't know
how to have it, it just killed me.
I knew we were in trouble when
they introduced the Russian team
and our players were applauding them.
I just said,
"Hey, I gotta shake these boys up."
McClanahan, I know what
buttons to press with this kid.
So I took the tough road.
And he played. He played like hell.
Jimmy was our guy.
I thought he was
the best goalkeeper available.
And, yeah, it hurt Janaszak.
But when you're not getting
a lot of ice time,
you have to show unusual character.
Right down your throat, #3
Bury that goddamn stick
right in your throat.
Eat that goddamn Koho, #3.
He was riled up because
it was Magic.
How long has it been since Herb passed?
The whole thing about this was
it was a team that accomplished
something, not individuals.
This is what I was trying to build,
is a team.
Team USA!
Thanks, guys!
You gave us so much pride.
Thank you! Thank you!
