Night of Wrath (2025) Movie Script

(no audio)
(gentle piano music)
- [Interviewer] So I'm
with Blaire Bradford,
founder of the Virtuous
Student Society,
which has helped thousands
across the nation
with charities and
outreach initiatives.
Blaire, talk about the VSS.
What was the inspiration?
- [Blaire] I started the
Virtuous Student Society
my freshman year of college.
Inspired by my
incredible father,
I wanted to know what
makes a person good?
After my interviews went viral,
Northwood University
approached me
about creating an entire
society around my mission.
Thanks to them,
believers in the VSS
receive a full-ride scholarship
to Northwood University.
We are so thankful for
their continued support.
If you want to be part
of an organization
to help make change in
the world, please join.
(ominous music)
(music stops)
- [Hudson] Jane,
you there? Jane?
- [Jane] Not right now.
- You about ready to go?
- Why? I'm not
getting any better.
- I, I know physical
therapy sucks,
but you can't give up on this.
- Track was all I had, Hudson.
- All right, yeah.
- What's that?
- Uh, it's ...
Dear Hudson Earnest.
You are formally invited
to the Nightmare on 13th
this evening for the
Virtuous Student Society's
post-inauguration party.
- The inauguration?
That was today, and I missed it.
- It's okay.
- No it's not.
I know how important
the society is to you,
and you get promoted
and I can't even
get outta bed to go support you.
I'm the worst.
- Don't say that. It's not true.
- Yes it is.
After the accident,
I can't do anything.
- We're not doing this.
You have 30 minutes.
We're going to therapy.
- I already told you.
There's no point.
- You really won't do
it for yourself, huh?
All right then, do it for me.
- That's low.
- Desperate times.
You know you love me.
- Ugh.
(soft music)
- Just a little further, Jane.
- I can't.
(upbeat music)
I feel alone, every day
I hate myself
and that's okay
All I want and all I need
A lot of sleep
- I'm gonna lose my voice.
- Jane!
- Jane.
You okay?
- I'm fine.
- Good.
- It's no use, Hudson.
This isn't working.
- It will. You just
have to want it.
- This is my whole future.
How much more can I want it?
- Then you need to start
believing you deserve it.
Come on. Let's try again.
(soft music)
(upbeat music)
Why why why
I'm a little whiskey boy
Why why
Why why why
- Ethan, looking good.
Why why
- There you are. I was
beginning to think you forgot.
- Forgot? We come
here every Friday.
- Oh, I know. But you
know how Taylee can be.
- That's true.
Where is she, by the way?
- I thought she was with you.
- Shopping.
- Shopping.
- You got a plan
to deal with that?
- Uh, yeah. It's called you.
- Oh really? You sure
you won't get sick of me?
- Impossible.
You're one of a kind, Candice.
(tires squealing)
(brakes squealing)
(Taylee yelping)
And I am a part and I say
Oh hoo hoo
What was that for?
- Your athletics fundraiser
just reached its $50,000 mark.
- What? That's incredible!
You are the most amazing
financial manager,
and the most amazing girlfriend
in the world.
- Don't you forget it.
(birds singing)
- I'm gonna go keep playing.
- I have a present for you.
Happy birthday.
- It's not my birthday.
- Merry Christmas?
- In three months.
- Just open it.
- Surprise.
Just try it on.
- Tay, you've gotta stop
spending money on me.
- Well I saw you
eyeing it in the store.
What's the point of having money
if I can't spend it on
the people who deserve it?
- The girls in my youth
group are gonna be obsessed.
- What are best friends for?
Oh, did you see Blaire's
invitations, the black and red?
They were so ugly.
We're the Virtuous Student
Society, not Hell's Angels.
Oh, he's so good.
- Yeah.
- Which one was that again?
- [Blaire] The one you won't do.
- [Harper] And here
we have my roommate
and president of the
VSS, Blaire Bradford,
and Vice President Winter Reed.
They are in the middle
of a deep discussion
about tonight's
inauguration party.
- [Blaire] On behalf of the
entire Virtuous Student Society,
I wanna thank you
guys for your support
and for joining
us on our journey.
- My turn.
What's up, you guys?
It's Winter here.
So, where are my people from
"Journals of an Alcoholic"?
Nice!
Okay, cool, so where
we at last time?
- Harper, you can't just start
filming us without warning.
We were in the
middle of a meeting.
- [Harper] I know, I
just thought the fans
would wanna see some
behind-the-scenes footage.
- I get it, and I appreciate
all the support you give us
and everything you do
for social media, but
Harper, you're my best friend.
You don't have to
prove yourself to me.
- Apparently, I do.
Winter.
You promoted Winter over me?
- The society needed Winter
to help grow our reach.
You've seen how our
followers have increased
since I made him vice president.
- Sure, but
Winter doesn't do
anything for the VSS.
I understand that he
overcame alcoholism,
and that is huge.
But, he only cares
about himself.
I, serve the community.
I work for charity.
- You're amazing, Harper.
And I know that.
It's just, the society's in
a delicate spot right now.
We need real leaders if we're
going to make a difference.
- So remember, spread the
word because this society
is going places, and you're
not gonna wanna miss out.
- Harper, wait.
- [Winter] Was it
something I said?
- No.
This one's on me.
Let's be done for today.
- Yeah, probably for the best.
I gotta go get ready
for the party tonight.
Oh, by the way, I saw you
made some last-minute changes.
It's not like you.
- What are you talking about?
- Ah, big secrets.
All right, see you tonight?
(soft music)
- Harper?
(soft music)
- [Recording] Hey,
you've reached Harper.
Sorry I missed you. Leave
a message at the beep.
(soft mysterious music)
(doorknob jiggling)
(upbeat music)
Will you miss me
when I'm gone?
(upbeat music)
Will you still think of
me, do you know at all?
- Hey.
Thanks for, uh, bailing me out
again.
- You're buying.
- Yeah right.
(engine starting)
You don't know
me, do you know?
- I know you're trying to
save the world and all,
but that doesn't mean
you need to become
a regular at the county jail.
- Well, actually, it's
one of the prereqs.
- Oh yeah?
- Mm-hm.
Can't become a Level Three
world saver without it.
- Who was it this time?
- Uh, Beauty Wave Cosmetics.
- Milo!
- They were testing their
poisons on helpless animals.
- That doesn't give
you the right to ...
What did you do?
- Jailbreak (laughs).
- You're kidding.
All of them?
- You shoulda seen them.
- [Amy Lee] You're ridiculous.
- No, I'm passionate.
- [Amy Lee] That too.
- It's just like
you're schoolwork.
- That's different.
If I do things right, I'm set.
- It's not all about
the money, Amy Lee.
- I know.
I just don't want my kids,
to grow up the way I did.
I want them to have
everything I never could.
- Your childhood
wasn't that bad.
You met me.
- I just don't wanna
be poor anymore, Milo.
- Hey.
You placed in the 95th
percentile on your SAT.
You have a full-ride scholarship
to Northwood University.
Poverty, poverty's not
in the cards for you.
- Still.
Oh.
Here.
- Did Blaire make these?
- [Amy Lee] Who else?
- Just, bit edgy
for her, that's all.
So, what's this new
kid's name again?
Harvey? Hank?
- Hudson. Hudson Earnest.
- Right.
He's the kid who
started that whole
intentional driving movement.
- That's the one.
- Cool.
Hope he's not a conservative.
- Milo!
(soft mysterious music)
(crows cawing)
(soft mysterious music)
(soft mysterious
music continues)
(thunder rumbling)
- Oh, hey, Hudson!
Should we get a VSS photo?
- Sure.
- Okay.
- Harper, will you
take it for us?
- Yeah, of course.
- I feel like it's
just looking at me!
- Move back.
- [Harper] Okay,
one, two, three.
You look really great.
- Thanks.
- Thank you.
- Thank you so much.
- Thank you.
- Yo, new guy.
- Hi, um?
- Winter Reed.
Vice president. "Journals
of an Alcoholic"?
- Right, right.
Pretty creepy place for a party.
- Yeah, don't look at me.
Blaire planned this one.
- Yeah, where is our
fearless leader anyway?
- Welcome, everyone.
- Blaire? How'd you do that?
- Blaire is unavailable.
You may call me Wrath.
I will be your host
for the evening.
- Wrath? Come on.
Don't tell me this is some
stupid role-playing game.
Blaire, where's the party?
- [Wrath] I'm afraid I've
had to cancel your party.
Allow me to explain.
You are here to answer
for the vices and sins
you profess to fight against.
- Sins? This is the
Virtuous Student Society.
We haven't done anything.
- Each of you holds a secret
that could ruin your
life as you know it.
And I happen to have
proof of them all.
- What do you want?
- I have designed this
house to test your ability
to overcome the source
of these transgressions.
Fail to do so, and
I will release your
secret to the world.
- You're bluffing.
If you actually
had anything on us,
why not just release it?
- Mercy, Amy Lee.
I'm giving each of you a
chance to prove me wrong.
And I want the
world to see it all.
I have hacked into all
of Blaire Bradford's
social media accounts and
her 3.5 million followers.
If you wish to keep your
sins a secret from them,
you must overcome my
seven trials of fate
scattered throughout
the Nightmare on
13th before midnight.
The loser of each trial will
have their corruption revealed.
In the end, there can
be only one winner.
- Look, I don't know about
the rest of you guys,
but I got nothing to hide.
- You're welcome to
leave at any time.
- Hey, what gives?
- However, should you wish
to leave you must first look
into the eyes of God
and confess your sins.
Then shall the way
be open to you.
- What?
- He's talking
about the cameras.
Either we confess our
secrets or he will.
- [Wrath] If you
will not confess,
then the only other way out
is to play my little game.
Your first trial is to make
it to the Institute of Terror
before five minutes has passed.
There you will receive
further instructions.
Good luck, and remember,
we'll all be watching.
(clock ticking)
- What do we do now?
- Duh. We play!
- This isn't a game, Tay!
He's serious.
You guys got secrets,
like he says?
That's what I thought.
- Okay, so we call the cops.
- Yeah, and tell them what?
Our lives'll be ruined before
they can do anything about it.
- Oh yeah, you
seem very familiar
with the blackmail
process, Milo.
- What are you looking at?
- The camera.
I think the red light means
that it's livestreaming.
And when it's off,
that means it can't
see us on the stream, right?
- I wonder how he's
tapping into their feed.
It has to be hardware, right?
With how old that model is.
- I mean, not necessarily.
It depends on the setup.
- Will you guys focus?
We are not here to admire
the work of a psychopath!
- Hey, breathe, breathe.
It's gonna be fine.
We just have to, play along.
For now.
- Uh, no way. I'm not
giving in to this guy.
- Okay, fine, you can stay here.
The rest of us have four minutes
to find the Institute of Terror.
- Ooh, can I lead?
- Sure, we just need to go.
- Yeah, okay.
- Go, go, go.
(soft mysterious music)
- What's it gonna be, new guy?
(soft mysterious music)
- Sorry, I have to play.
- Whatever.
(clock ticking)
(soft mysterious music)
(players breathing hard)
- It's this way, go, go!
- Guys!
What's the hell's that? Hurry!
Hurry!
Watch it!
(players panicking)
(clock ticking)
(suspenseful music)
- [Taylee] Go, go!
(suspenseful music)
(Amy Lee shrieking)
(clock ticking)
(Wrath laughing)
- Winter Reed, vice
president of the VSS.
For your unrestrained desires
and your self-indulgence,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of gluttony.
- What? I thought you
said we had till midnight.
- For those who played.
You claim sobriety,
inspire thousands to
follow your example,
but do your fans
know it's all a lie?
Your relapse was inevitable,
given the way you
indulged in your fame,
your followers and your parties.
Yet you pretended
you were still clean.
I condemn you for
the sin of gluttony.
Let's see what your
followers think of that.
(phone pinging repeatedly)
- No, no, no, no!
- [Wrath] Say hello
to cancel culture.
(suspenseful music)
You are free to go.
Should anyone attempt
to leave with Winter,
you will suffer the
same fate as him.
The gates await you on the
other side of the building.
(soft suspenseful music)
- So this isn't a game?
- I don't think so.
(phone ringing)
- Sorry.
I need to, take this.
Jane.
- Hudson, are you okay?
Wrath's not kidding. The whole
thing's being livestreamed.
Who is he?
- [Hunter] I don't know.
- [Jane] Okay, the Nightmare
on 13th. What is that?
- It's a haunted
house by campus.
- Okay, we're
gonna come get you.
- No, you can't.
- Why?
What'd you do, forget to
return a library book?
You're not saying he actually
has something on you?
- [Hudson] I have to play.
- Hudson, what did you do?
(soft piano music)
- I can't say.
- [Jane] Right, the cameras.
- Look, I need you to
do something for me.
- [Jane] What?
- Did you notice anyone missing?
- Blaire?
- [Hudson] Exactly.
I need you to go to her
apartment and figure out why.
- Me? What if she's Wrath?
- Don't go inside. Just
look in the windows.
If we can link this toher,
we can get the cops here.
- And what about Mom and Dad?
- [Hudson] I don't
want them to know.
Besides, no one should know
you're working together
with me on this.
- [Jane] And the
200,000 people watching?
Mom and Dad are gonna find out.
- That's why we have
to nip this in the bud.
The viewers probably
think this is just
an elaborate prank right now.
I don't wanna give any more
validity to Wrath's claims.
- But,
I can't even drive.
I'm just gonna mess it up.
- [Hudson] Jane,
please.
(soft piano music)
- Okay, I'll try.
- Thanks.
- You're welcome.
But you owe me big time.
(soft music)
(suspenseful music on TV)
- Jane, you're up.
- You okay? Can we
get you anything?
- I'm okay.
Uh, Hudson invited
me to a party.
I was thinking I should go.
- Yeah, I'll get the car.
(soft mysterious music)
- What's going on?
- Taylee found this note.
- First cast off the beam
out of thine own eye?
- I'm thinking it's talking
about, like, a laser beam.
- Try plank of wood.
Matthew Seven, Verse Five.
It's from the Bible.
- You would know that.
- Hey, what's that
supposed to mean.
- Ethan, calm down.
It's just a joke.
She loves Jesus. So what?
- Just saying.
Whoever this Wrath character is
seems to know the
Bible pretty well too.
Maybe they go to
the same church.
Or, maybe ...
- What are you trying to say?
- It's obvious, isn't it?
Wrath has to be a
member of the VSS.
How else would they know
so much about all of us,
or why even target the
society for that matter?
All I'm saying is
it could be her?
- Well how do we
know it's not you.
- Guys, stop it.
- Hey! Would you
idiots use your brains?
Has anyone else
noticed that Blaire
is conveniently not here?
If Wrath is a member of the
society, my money's on Blaire.
- Kenzie can't be in
two places at once.
- Prerecordings, accomplices,
guaranteed whoever Wrath is
isn't working alone.
We shouldn't rule out anyone.
(crickets chirping)
- This doesn't look
like Hudson's place.
- Oh it's not. It's Blaire's.
Hudson's meeting me inside.
- Okay, well, it's good to see
the dynamic duo back in action.
- Dad.
- What?
Before the accident, you guys
were practically inseparable.
It was the perfect nickname.
Came up with it myself.
But have fun.
- I will.
(crickets chirping)
Third floor?
That's not gonna work.
(crickets chirping)
(soft suspenseful music)
(knocking on door)
(crickets chirping)
Sorry, Hudson.
Hello?
Blaire?
(crickets chirping)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(Jane gasping)
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(crow cawing)
(soft suspenseful music)
- You okay?
(soft suspenseful music)
We'll get through this.
- [Wrath] Congratulations on
making it to the institute
and passing your first trial.
The first step to healing is
admitting you have a problem.
You're all here
for your diagnosis.
(dummy screaming)
(soft suspenseful music)
Harper Auburn, please
report to Room One.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- We'll be right here.
- [Wrath] Milo
Rasmussen, Room Two.
Amy Lee Fitzgerald, Room Three.
(soft suspenseful music)
Hudson Earnest, Room Four.
(soft suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music)
(Jane breathing hard)
- By now you've probably
guessed that there's been
a slight change of
plans for this evening.
I apologize, but the corruption
cannot be allowed to continue.
Left unchecked, the evils of
your Virtuous Student Society
will spread like a cancer.
They must be exposed and
eliminated, starting with you.
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Recording] Hey,
this is Hudson Earnest.
Leave a message.
I'll get back to you.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(door closing)
(dramatic crescendo)
- No!
(door slamming)
- Do you think
they're all right?
- I hope so.
- You okay?
- Yeah.
(dummy screaming)
- [Wrath] The rest of you,
report to the basement.
I have something special
in mind for you three.
(soft suspenseful music)
Only the truth can
set you free now.
The last one to answer
their riddle correctly
will have their secret revealed.
(soft suspenseful music)
The wicked I am.
Nobody wants me, but those who
never have me nobody trusts.
What am I?
Oh, and I'd try to hurry.
In 10 minutes, the doors
will lock permanently
for all of you.
Good luck.
- [Milo] Hey, can
anybody hear me?
- Yeah, yeah, I can hear you.
- Me too.
- Amy Lee, are you okay?
- I'm here.
- Amy Lee, when you get
out, you need to try to find
a way to get the
rest of us out too.
- Right.
Okay.
- [Milo] Hey,
don't pressure her.
- What do you mean pressure?
She's one of the smartest
students at Northwood.
She's gonna get out in no time.
There's a, there's a hole
in the ceiling of my room.
I'm gonna see if I can reach it.
- [Wrath] Because
of me, through him,
the world might be saved.
All except Caesar,
whose life I took away.
What am I?
- Brutus killed Caesar.
Who saved the world through him?
Oh that's, that's Jesus!
Betrayal. You're betrayal!
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Hunter] Amy Lee, is that you?
- No, it's me. It's Harper.
- Oh, awesome. Um, can you
try to get us out of here?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Ah!
(soft suspenseful music)
It's no use. I can't unlock it!
- [Hudson] Go get the others.
- Okay. Don't go anywhere.
- [Hudson] Where do
you think we're going?
(Amy Lee crying)
- Milo!
- Amy Lee, I, I
need you to breathe.
It's gonna be okay.
- You don't know that!
- [Milo] I do. I'm, I'm
gonna get you out of this.
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Wrath] Yellow
is the hue I wear,
a color that hints
at the burden I bear.
With the heart of a chicken
and lacking a spine,
I'm as timid as mice,
but I'm often feline.
What am I?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Oh, I hate riddles.
(soft suspenseful music)
- It's no use. I can't reach it.
- A lion?
(timer buzzing)
Whoa, hey hey hey! Why
did my time go down?
- [Wrath] The penalty
for guessing incorrectly.
- Guys, don't guess
unless you're sure.
Every wrong answer,
we lose two minutes.
- [Wrath] Every
human has a purpose
and a will to do something,
but I think the other way,
making the sinner do nothing.
What am I?
(soft suspenseful music)
- I ...
I don't know.
I don't know.
- You behold the theme
within.
Guys, I think our riddles
having something to do
with the sins that
Wrath put us here for!
You're a coward.
The answer is, is a coward.
Amy Lee!
- Milo!
- Amy Lee!
(Milo groaning)
Come on!
- Think.
Where should I start?
Nobody wants me, but
those who never have me,
nobody can trust?
(hammer banging)
- [Milo] I'm here, Amy!
(Amy Lee crying)
- It's no use!
- You want a confession?
I'll confess. Just let her go!
- [Wrath] There is no
intercession for her sins.
Only she can deliver herself.
- This is all my fault.
- [Wrath] Five, four, three,
two, one.
- The answer is guilt!
(bell dinging)
(soft piano music)
- Amy Lee Fitzgerald,
for your overreliance
on others and for
choosing the easy way out,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of sloth.
- How?
She's a straight-A student.
She has a full ride
for her SAT score.
- You cheated on your SATs
and are undeserving
of your honors,
accolades and scholarship.
The school board
and every student
on campus has been notified.
At midnight, you
will be released.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- Leet speak all sound.
(phone ringing)
- Jane, now's not a good time.
- Blaire's dead.
- Blaire's dead? Seriously?
Are you okay?
- I'm fine. Any idea
who'd want her dead?
- No, no. She was literally
Northwood's pride and joy.
- Well, looks like
Wrath had a serious
vendetta against the VSS.
Andy idea of what
leet speak means?
- Leet speak?
No idea.
- It means a leet speech.
- A leet speech?
- Yeah, it means replacing
letters with numbers and stuff.
- Leet speak all sound.
- Wh, where you going?
- After the others.
Wrath's gotta be one of them.
- What? No.
That, yeah, mm, he's gone.
Did you, did you catch that?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Okay, I mean.
Hudson, how well
do you know Harper?
- Harper? Yeah,
that's our bad guy.
Have you met her?
- She's not technically a
leader in the VSS, right?
- No, no, she's
applied a few times
but Blaire always
rejected the application.
- I'm not saying she did it,
but sounds like a motive to me.
Also, she has a detailed file
on each of the VSS leaders.
- What? Why?
- You tell me.
There's nothing
incriminating here, but
she's meeting someone at
Sleepy Hollow any minute now.
She said she threatened
to reveal their secret.
- No.
No, there's, there's no way.
- Who's she emailing?
- MakeupMenace@NO13.com.
- I don't recognize it.
- NO13. I think someone
works for Nightmare on 13th.
That's how Wrath
rented the space.
If I can get to the records,
then I can match up
the name to an account.
- But the records would be here.
- Exactly. Looks like
I'm coming to you.
- No. That, that's
way too dangerous.
- I don't see any other option.
Wrath is watching
your every move.
- Okay.
But how, how are
you going to get in?
- I'll
figure it out.
With any luck,
I'll see you soon.
- Be careful, okay?
- You too.
(Hunter sighing)
- Sleepy Hollow, let's go.
(soft suspenseful music)
All right, I'm here.
Where are the girls?
- Welcome, Ethan, to the
maze you have created.
When you indulge in wickedness,
you create a tangled web.
- Where are they?
- Inside the maze, of
course, where I led them.
Only you can deliver them from
their current predicament.
(soft suspenseful music)
Keep the stream close, for it
will be your only way back.
- What are these supposed to be?
- Only one of them
may leave with you.
You'll have to choose.
Handcuff yourself to
the girl you love most,
and I will allow you
both to leave the maze
without revealing your secrets.
But for the other, well,
she won't be so lucky.
- What did Wrath
mean by all that?
- I, I don't know.
- I'm not playing
your sick game!
- Then they all remain
trapped in the maze.
You have 10 minutes to save one,
or I'll reveal all
of your secrets.
Enjoy.
(soft suspenseful music)
(door creaking and closing)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(floorboards creaking)
Did you bring them?
- They're all here.
- Give it to me.
- No.
I'm not letting you
do this to them.
These are good people.
- Good people?
You've seen the
corruption for yourself.
- But, look at the
good they've done.
They don't deserve this.
(suspenseful music)
- Choose the girl you love most?
That's so unfair.
What's gonna happen to you?
This is so dumb.
You haven't even
done anything bad.
You shouldn't even be here.
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- McKenzie? Kenzie,
where are you?
(soft suspenseful music)
McKenzie?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Why is he calling for you?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Are you and Ethan ...
Kenz?
- I'm sorry.
I didn't mean for it to happen.
It was supposed to
be a one-time thing,
but things evolved into
something real and ...
(soft suspenseful music)
And I think I love him.
- How dare you?
(hand slapping)
- Tay!
- Kenzie, come back here!
- There's still
time to stop this.
But, if you won't
I will, if I have to.
(soft suspenseful music)
- Harper Auburn, for
failing to be content
with your own accomplishments,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of envy.
- What?
(Harper gasping)
(suspenseful music)
- Kenzie!
(suspenseful music)
- Kenz. It's okay, you're okay.
- She knows. She knows about us.
- I know.
Wrath, Wrath says
I have to choose.
I can only free one person.
- And you're here.
I didn't know. I didn't
know if you would.
- Kenz.
You know I love you.
- You're choosing her?
- You deserve to hear
it from me. I'm sorry.
- Why?
If you love me then--
- I do, I ju ...
Not the same way I love Taylee.
- Five minutes remaining.
- I'm sorry.
- Go.
Just, just go.
(soft suspenseful music)
- McKenzie Valentine, for
allowing your passions
to overshadow your
religious beliefs,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of lust.
The gates stand open for you,
if you can find your own
way through the maze.
- What about Ethan?
- You were
Northwood's most pure,
with an entire
congregation seeking
to emulate your
commitment, not Ethan.
But rest assured, he
has more to answer for.
Consider yourself lucky.
(McKenzie crying)
(soft suspenseful music)
(Ethan groaning)
(Ethan groaning)
- McKenzie, you are so
dead when I find you!
- Tay, it's me!
Later, we're
running out of time!
- Don't touch me!
What are you doing?
- I'm trying to help.
Taylee, the string.
- Stop that!
- If we don't find that string,
then he's outting us all.
It's our only way out.
- One minute left.
- Oh, got it, got it.
- Okay, let's go. Come on.
Come on!
(dramatic music)
Come on, hurry!
- It's a dead end.
- It's a door. Help
me get it open.
(both groaning)
(dramatic music)
- Stay away from me!
- Taylee, I literally
can't go anywhere!
(suspenseful music)
(Ethan breathing)
(door creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Hudson, what have you done?
(Taylee gasping)
- I didn't do this.
The lights went out
and then she ...
- Harper?
Is she?
- Dead. Wrath killed her.
- So you say.
- Well I didn't kill her.
- If you know something,
Milo, just say it.
- All I know is, when I ran in,
Hudson was standing
over Harper's body.
- I'm telling you,
Wrath did this.
- I thought Blaire was Wrath.
Why would she kill
her best friend?
- Blaire's dead too.
- If Blaire is dead, that means
that one of you is Wrath.
- How do you know that?
You could just be saying that
to turn us against each other.
- I, I can't say, but you
guys just have to trust me.
- Trust you? You killed Harper!
- I didn't kill Harper.
I thought she might
be behind all this,
so I was following her.
- (scoffs) You thought
Harper was Wrath?
- No, Harper
wouldn't hurt a fly.
- You said the cameras
are always recording,
even when they're
not streaming, right?
- Yeah, what of it?
- That means that
there's video evidence
of Wrath killing Harper.
The, the cops would
have to intervene.
- Okay, then it's settled.
We'll go find the footage.
But until then, I
say we tie him up
so he doesn't try anything.
- You're not serious.
- It's not a bad plan.
- Guys,
come on.
- Hey!
He's getting away!
(dramatic music)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(indistinct banging)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- What?
- Hello, Jane. I was hoping
you would find your way here.
- Shut it down,
Blaire, or I will.
- What gave me away?
- The email?
Same one that rented the space.
Head makeup artist.
I guess that explains the body.
- Oh, a fan of mine.
More than happy to let
me work my magic on her.
- You're a monster.
- Why?
What have I done?
Exposed a few
well-deserving sinners?
Think bigger, Jane.
The world is full
of corrupt people
who just keep
getting away with it.
- Hudson is a good person.
- He's as corrupt as
the rest of them, Jane.
You know,
you remind me of myself.
- I am nothing like you.
- Listen to me, Jane!
I'm trying to give you the
same gift that I was given.
You've been taken
in by Hudson's lies
just like I was taken
in by my father's.
My father
showed me how to
be a good person.
Taught me the virtues
that I should uphold
and expected that I would do so.
I idolized him.
Sound familiar?
The saddest part is,
I truly believed that he
was that perfect example.
Upholding all the virtues.
Until I found my father
with another woman.
It was just a mask.
Like everyone else.
Look closely enough and
you can always find cracks.
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music continues)
(woman screaming)
(woman screaming)
(woman screaming)
If my father, best man I'd ever
known, wasn't a good person,
then no one could be.
And they needed to be exposed.
We need to bring
them to the light.
- So what, you decide who
the corrupt ones are now
and dole out the punishment?
- Oh, I don't need to.
For a good tree cannot
bring forth evil fruit,
neither can a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit.
- So heel me down, not Hudson.
- Jane, you have
done nothing wrong.
- I nearly killed someone.
The other driver is crippled
for life because of me.
- What do you actually
remember from that night?
- Bits and pieces.
I remember looking down
to change the song.
- Your medical records
say you suffered
from short-term amnesia.
Wouldn't you like
to know the truth?
(footsteps pounding)
(soft suspenseful music)
(footsteps pounding)
- Okay, stop, stop!
It clearly is not working.
We're running out of time!
- If you have any
ideas, I'm all ears!
- As much as I enjoy
watching the four of you
play cat and mouse, I have
another trial for you.
Hidden somewhere in this
house is a key to the exit.
Any of you may use the key
instead of confessing your sins.
However, the key is
for only one of you.
Using the key will
eliminate one hour
from the remaining guests' time.
You don't have to use the key,
but will the others
be as selfless?
- Hey!
- No, no no no, stop!
We are not going to outrun him.
We need to go the other way.
Come on!
(soft suspenseful music)
- Jane, you made it.
You have no idea how
glad I am to see you.
- Was it you?
- What are you talking about?
- Was, it, you?
- You know?
- How could you?
(Hudson sighing)
- I never meant to hurt
anyone, especially not you.
I just wanted to fit in.
And I wasn't
planning on driving.
I feel alone, every day
I hate myself
and that's okay
All I want and all I need
Another sleep
- I'm gonna lose my voice.
- Jane!
- When I came to, I
dragged you outta the crash
and I passed out, and I
woke up at the hospital.
And they told me that you
had short-term memory loss
and it might never
come back to you,
and, and I overheard that ...
I overheard the
doctors talk about you
crashing the car and
I just froze.
The alcohol wasn't a problem
if I was just a passenger
and you were a just a minor.
The judges would go easy on you.
(soft piano music)
So I didn't say anything.
And I've hated
myself ever since.
I'm so sorry, Jane.
- Don't!
You ruined my life, my future.
You let me walk around
with this guilt for months!
I could have gone to jail!
You don't get to be sorry.
- I know.
Jane, where are you going?
- Home.
You deserve everything
that's coming to you.
(Hudson breathing shakily)
- There's a chest back
there with the tags.
- Obviously, there's
nothing in that chest.
- I mean, you say obviously,
I didn't think it
was that obvious.
- Whoa, I found it!
- Taylee!
- Okay.
- Give it, give it. Let me ...
- Do you even know
how to unlock it?
- Yes, I can do it.
- Give it to me. Let me do it.
(soft suspenseful music)
- So now--
- Do not!
(key clicking)'
Oh.
(soft suspenseful music)
You're not gonna
fight me for it?
- Take it.
I should do at least
one thing right by you.
You deserve it.
(soft suspenseful music)
(footsteps padding)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Yeah.
- He won't let us leave,
not until the game is over.
- Oh.
- Taylee Palmer, for failing
to put others before yourself,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of greed.
- But you said anyone with this
key would be free to leave.
- I said you wouldn't
have to confess.
I never said I wouldn't
condemn you for your choice.
- You tricked me.
- This all could have been
avoided were you free from sin.
Instead, you are condemned
as a penalty for your greed,
and as a result one
hour has been taken
from the remaining time.
- That's not fair.
- Not fair?
As a financial
advisor and accountant
at Giving Tree Charity,
it was your job
to help the poor and needy.
But you skimmed off the top,
raided the books in your favor
and for what?
Clothes, jewelry, cars.
You stole from those in need
to purchase temporary pleasures.
You are the epitome of greed.
(suspenseful music)
Congratulations to
those who remain.
You are my final guests.
But with only an hour left
thanks to Taylee's betrayal,
you will need to hurry if
you want your secret kept.
Join me in Blackwater
for your final trial.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- You?
- Me.
(both groaning)
Ethan, hey!
(soft suspenseful music)
(Jane crying)
(phone ringing)
(phone ringing)
- Hello?
- Dad.
- Are you okay? What's going on?
- I think I'm ready
to come home now.
- Are you sure? What happened?
- Nothing.
- Want me to come
beat somebody up?
(Jane crying)
- Probably.
- Same place?
- Nightmare on 13th.
- Okay, I'll head over right
now. I'll see you soon.
- Dad?
- Yeah?
- Why are people the worst?
- Sweetheart, you know,
I don't really believe
people are inherently
good or bad.
At least we shouldn't
judge people
by their mistakes, you know?
We can talk about it when
I come get you, okay?
Love you.
- Love you too.
(soft suspenseful music)
- What is this?
- What?
- What is this?
- You, you attacked me.
- I did not.
You ...
You're the one that drugged me!
- Wait, why, why aren't
you in a straitjacket?
- This game is one of deceit.
One of you has been assisting
me from the very beginning.
Hudson, it is up to you
decide who is guilty,
since you seem to be
the expert in that area.
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
Milo or Ethan?
Free the guilty and I will
reveal both of your secrets.
Free the other, and I
will only reveal theirs.
- Then our secrets
get spilled anyway?
How is this a game if
there's no way to win?
- There's only one
winner in this game.
How does it feel,
Hudson, to have two lives
in the palm of your hand?
Again.
- No.
No, I'm done.
I'm done with all this.
Because of you, I lost the only
person I was pretending for.
(Hudson breathing hard)
You think I don't hate
myself for what I did?
Your game's not
proving anything.
Jane was the only, the
only reason I kept trying.
Trying to change,
trying to atone.
And you turned her against me!
- Don't put your sins on me!
- Don't act like
you're better than us!
I condemn you.
I condemn you for
the sin of wrath.
You forced us all to
see the darkness when,
when we're all just
looking for a little light.
- Refuse to choose and I will
reveal both of their secrets.
(men grunting)
- I did it.
- Stop!
- I was the drunk driver
who crippled my sister,
and I nearly killed
the other driver.
I accept full responsibility
for my actions.
- But this guy?
- And I too have a secret.
- Shut it down, shut it down.
- I fixed games so I could
stay on the soccer team
and keep my scholarship.
(soft suspenseful music)
What?
Aren't we all, like, confessing?
- You guys wanna ruin your
futures, don't let me stop you.
- Enough! You think
this will stop me?
You've only sped up my timeline.
- No, but this might.
Wrath killed someone in here.
If you're listening,
please help us.
Wrath killed--
(power shutting down)
- You realize you just
doomed us all, right?
And he's gonna release
my secret outta spite.
- Not if we can get to
the security footage.
Then we'll have some
blackmail on him.
- Aren't you
forgetting something?
We still have to find
a way out of here.
(man groaning)
(soft suspenseful music)
(door creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Deceit.
This one's mine.
I'm gonna go try to
find the security room.
- Hey, we can help you, Hudson.
- Not if one of you's
working with Wrath.
- What are we supposed to do?
- Whatever you want.
I, I have something I
have to take care of.
(door opening)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Needs a password.
Move.
(soft suspenseful music)
- You're not going anywhere.
The cops will be
here any second.
- Think about what
you're doing, Jane.
There is so much
corruption in the world.
We can root it out.
- Face it, Blaire, it's over.
(sirens blaring in distance)
- No.
No!
- In about an hour, we should
have the password cracked,
and we can access the
surveillance files.
- So, Ethan was the traitor?
- Yeah, apparently.
- And you can do this
with any hard drive?
(upbeat suspenseful music)
Ethan's not the accomplice.
It's you.
- What are you talking about?
- You, you're the
only one who could
access all of our files.
You've been helping him
since the, the beginning.
You're not breaking the
password. What are you doing?
- It's a virus.
It should finish
the job by midnight.
- Why are you doing this?
Why are you helping him?
After everything he did to us?
After everything
he did to Amy Lee?
- He caught me helping
Amy Lee cheat on the SAT.
He's been using that
to blackmail me.
After what he did Amy Lee,
I thought I could
stand up to him but
I can't help her
if I'm in prison.
- So what? You do what he
says and you get the key?
- Yeah.
And Wrath keeps my
illegal hacking a secret.
I can use the key as soon
as I erase the footage.
- Milo.
If that program finishes,
there will be no evidence
of Wrath killing Harper!
- Don't lecture me like
you're better than I am!
I know what you did.
At least I was trying
to help people.
- I can't let you do this.
(dramatic music)
(Hudson groaning)
- Is this your
first fight, Hudson?
- It's not yours?
- Dude, I'm an activist.
My fights usually involve
tear gas and riot shields.
- That's right.
(both groaning)
- Hudson.
(both groaning)
(dramatic music)
Hudson.
Stay down.
You're not gonna win.
- I wouldn't want
to, even if I could.
(Hudson breathing hard)
You're not a bad guy, Milo.
Wrath has lost.
Don't go down with him.
(suspenseful music)
(siren blaring)
(door slamming)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Blaire, stop!
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
I have Harper's phone!
You're no angel, Blaire!
You killed Harper!
(both shouting)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- That was an accident!
Harper wasn't
supposed to be here!
She found the files.
The files she found
would have directly
linked me to Wrath.
But, as soon as Milo
erases the footage,
I'll be free to
continue my work.
(soft suspenseful music)
- If this footage
doesn't get erased,
he's gonna know it was me.
He'll tell everyone.
- So let him.
There will always
be someone like,
like Wrath or Amy
Lee to use you.
I may not be able to stop you,
but if you don't
stand up for yourself
like you stand up for others,
you're never gonna be free
of this endless cycle.
You don't wanna be
a coward anymore?
This is what courage feels like.
(soft suspenseful music)
(Milo breathing hard)
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
- You need to start
believing you deserve it.
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
(music stops)
(footsteps running)
(Jane grunting)
- Jane? How did you
get here before us?
- Shortcut.
- Blaire's Wrath?
Blaire's alive?
(Blaire screaming)
- Let me go!
I'll tell everyone
what you've done!
- You can't control me anymore.
I'm ready to own
up with what I did.
- You'll go to jail
for what you did!
- It's what good people do.
- Go to jail?
- No, no I meant like, like
take responsibility for your ...
Just forget it.
It's not important.
- Stay where you are!
- You ready?
- As I'll ever be.
(soft piano music)
(soft piano music continues)
- Amy.
You okay?
- Not really.
You?
- Not at all.
- Can we get some
help over here?
- All right, is
everything okay over here?
- You went back for her.
- Well I couldn't
just leave her.
(soft piano music)
(soft piano music continues)
- Hey, you did good, kid.
- Thanks.
- Ever thought of
being a detective?
- I don't know if I'd go that
far, but maybe a journalist?
- I can see that.
(soft piano music)
- And that was the end of
the Virtuous Student Society.
It's been one year since then,
and in honor of the event
that started my
career in journalism,
this week's Flashback
Friday will feature
a where are they now?
The VSS was dissolved,
and in its place
an organization was formed,
the Harper Auburn Foundation,
an organization that focuses
less on lofty achievements
and fame, and more on the
stuff that really matters.
McKenzie Valentine, no
one respected her choice,
but it's not like she had
done anything illegal.
It took a while to recover,
but after speaking with her,
it sounds like the experience
provided her with a wakeup call.
She's since moved on
and has found someone
who actually loves her
for all of who she is.
She's hopeful it
will be the start
of a long and
happy relationship.
Both Ethan and Amy
Lee were expelled
from Northwood for
their dishonesty.
Since then, Ethan has been
working at a mechanic shop
while he tries to put the pieces
of his future back together.
He keeps the key meant
for him as a reminder
to do things the
right way this time.
With her test
scores invalidated,
Amy Lee had to start
completely from scratch.
But she's been working
hard over the past year
to study for and retake the SAT.
We'll see if all her
hard work pays off,
but I have a feeling it will.
I was unable to
track down Winter
after the loss of his fan base,
but I like to think he's
getting himself clean,
for real this time.
In exchange for a
reduced sentence,
Milo agreed to
help the government
catch other hackers like him
and now runs a blog about
the unconstitutional nature
of America's prison system.
Meanwhile, Taylee
is allowed to work
at the Northwood soup
kitchen every week.
When she's released from
prison, she told me her goal
will be to repay
ever cent she stole
from the Giving Tree Charity.
Thanks to the security footage,
Blaire was convicted
for Harper's murder
and was incarcerated
at the local prison.
Hopefully, that's the last we'll
see of her for a long time.
Today marks the end of at
least one of their sentences,
and I for one can't
wait to see him.
(upbeat pounding music)
- Woo, yeah!
(group cheering)
- Oh.
- Hudson.
- There he is!
I wanna let you
know that I'm here
(upbeat rock music)
- Welcome back, Hudson.
I can't seem to find my way
- So, when does
school start again?
- Next week, but it's
basically like Jane never left.
- The Northwood
Inquisitor needed someone
competent to run it this time.
- Uh, how's the leg?
- The doctor says soon it
will be back to normal.
- Whoa.
Jane, I'm really, I'm
really proud of you.
- And we're so proud of you.
Out early for good behavior.
- And conditional on my
community service hours,
which is basically my life now.
(both laughing)
- Let's go get some food.
- Yeah, uh, could we have a sec?
- Yeah.
(birds singing)
- Uh, I don't think I
can ever apologize enough
for what I did.
- You don't have to.
We've spent enough time
dwelling on our mistakes.
Maybe let's just try
and move forward.
Will you miss me
when I'm gone?
Will you still think of me?
Do you know at all?
Where are all my
loyal friends?
They say the end is near,
so where do I begin?
You will know
me, do you know?
(upbeat music)
I can make it work somehow
Tell me
Do I wanna know?
Is it a lie you told
to pull me closer?
Tell me
Do I wanna hear?
Is it a dream I'm
in (indistinct)
Am I really that unknown?
I was at your party,
standing all alone
While you drank
to your expense
(upbeat music)
But I'm not having fun,
I want it all to end
Heading out along the fray
I will never be that way
Tell me
Do I wanna know?
Is it all a lie you told
To pull me closer?
Tell me
Do I wanna hear?
(music fading out)
(no audio)
(gentle piano music)
- [Interviewer] So I'm
with Blaire Bradford,
founder of the Virtuous
Student Society,
which has helped thousands
across the nation
with charities and
outreach initiatives.
Blaire, talk about the VSS.
What was the inspiration?
- [Blaire] I started the
Virtuous Student Society
my freshman year of college.
Inspired by my
incredible father,
I wanted to know what
makes a person good?
After my interviews went viral,
Northwood University
approached me
about creating an entire
society around my mission.
Thanks to them,
believers in the VSS
receive a full-ride scholarship
to Northwood University.
We are so thankful for
their continued support.
If you want to be part
of an organization
to help make change in
the world, please join.
(ominous music)
(music stops)
- [Hudson] Jane,
you there? Jane?
- [Jane] Not right now.
- You about ready to go?
- Why? I'm not
getting any better.
- I, I know physical
therapy sucks,
but you can't give up on this.
- Track was all I had, Hudson.
- All right, yeah.
- What's that?
- Uh, it's ...
Dear Hudson Earnest.
You are formally invited
to the Nightmare on 13th
this evening for the
Virtuous Student Society's
post-inauguration party.
- The inauguration?
That was today, and I missed it.
- It's okay.
- No it's not.
I know how important
the society is to you,
and you get promoted
and I can't even
get outta bed to go support you.
I'm the worst.
- Don't say that. It's not true.
- Yes it is.
After the accident,
I can't do anything.
- We're not doing this.
You have 30 minutes.
We're going to therapy.
- I already told you.
There's no point.
- You really won't do
it for yourself, huh?
All right then, do it for me.
- That's low.
- Desperate times.
You know you love me.
- Ugh.
(soft music)
- Just a little further, Jane.
- I can't.
(upbeat music)
I feel alone, every day
I hate myself
and that's okay
All I want and all I need
A lot of sleep
- I'm gonna lose my voice.
- Jane!
- Jane.
You okay?
- I'm fine.
- Good.
- It's no use, Hudson.
This isn't working.
- It will. You just
have to want it.
- This is my whole future.
How much more can I want it?
- Then you need to start
believing you deserve it.
Come on. Let's try again.
(soft music)
(upbeat music)
Why why why
I'm a little whiskey boy
Why why
Why why why
- Ethan, looking good.
Why why
- There you are. I was
beginning to think you forgot.
- Forgot? We come
here every Friday.
- Oh, I know. But you
know how Taylee can be.
- That's true.
Where is she, by the way?
- I thought she was with you.
- Shopping.
- Shopping.
- You got a plan
to deal with that?
- Uh, yeah. It's called you.
- Oh really? You sure
you won't get sick of me?
- Impossible.
You're one of a kind, Candice.
(tires squealing)
(brakes squealing)
(Taylee yelping)
And I am a part and I say
Oh hoo hoo
What was that for?
- Your athletics fundraiser
just reached its $50,000 mark.
- What? That's incredible!
You are the most amazing
financial manager,
and the most amazing girlfriend
in the world.
- Don't you forget it.
(birds singing)
- I'm gonna go keep playing.
- I have a present for you.
Happy birthday.
- It's not my birthday.
- Merry Christmas?
- In three months.
- Just open it.
- Surprise.
Just try it on.
- Tay, you've gotta stop
spending money on me.
- Well I saw you
eyeing it in the store.
What's the point of having money
if I can't spend it on
the people who deserve it?
- The girls in my youth
group are gonna be obsessed.
- What are best friends for?
Oh, did you see Blaire's
invitations, the black and red?
They were so ugly.
We're the Virtuous Student
Society, not Hell's Angels.
Oh, he's so good.
- Yeah.
- Which one was that again?
- [Blaire] The one you won't do.
- [Harper] And here
we have my roommate
and president of the
VSS, Blaire Bradford,
and Vice President Winter Reed.
They are in the middle
of a deep discussion
about tonight's
inauguration party.
- [Blaire] On behalf of the
entire Virtuous Student Society,
I wanna thank you
guys for your support
and for joining
us on our journey.
- My turn.
What's up, you guys?
It's Winter here.
So, where are my people from
"Journals of an Alcoholic"?
Nice!
Okay, cool, so where
we at last time?
- Harper, you can't just start
filming us without warning.
We were in the
middle of a meeting.
- [Harper] I know, I
just thought the fans
would wanna see some
behind-the-scenes footage.
- I get it, and I appreciate
all the support you give us
and everything you do
for social media, but
Harper, you're my best friend.
You don't have to
prove yourself to me.
- Apparently, I do.
Winter.
You promoted Winter over me?
- The society needed Winter
to help grow our reach.
You've seen how our
followers have increased
since I made him vice president.
- Sure, but
Winter doesn't do
anything for the VSS.
I understand that he
overcame alcoholism,
and that is huge.
But, he only cares
about himself.
I, serve the community.
I work for charity.
- You're amazing, Harper.
And I know that.
It's just, the society's in
a delicate spot right now.
We need real leaders if we're
going to make a difference.
- So remember, spread the
word because this society
is going places, and you're
not gonna wanna miss out.
- Harper, wait.
- [Winter] Was it
something I said?
- No.
This one's on me.
Let's be done for today.
- Yeah, probably for the best.
I gotta go get ready
for the party tonight.
Oh, by the way, I saw you
made some last-minute changes.
It's not like you.
- What are you talking about?
- Ah, big secrets.
All right, see you tonight?
(soft music)
- Harper?
(soft music)
- [Recording] Hey,
you've reached Harper.
Sorry I missed you. Leave
a message at the beep.
(soft mysterious music)
(doorknob jiggling)
(upbeat music)
Will you miss me
when I'm gone?
(upbeat music)
Will you still think of
me, do you know at all?
- Hey.
Thanks for, uh, bailing me out
again.
- You're buying.
- Yeah right.
(engine starting)
You don't know
me, do you know?
- I know you're trying to
save the world and all,
but that doesn't mean
you need to become
a regular at the county jail.
- Well, actually, it's
one of the prereqs.
- Oh yeah?
- Mm-hm.
Can't become a Level Three
world saver without it.
- Who was it this time?
- Uh, Beauty Wave Cosmetics.
- Milo!
- They were testing their
poisons on helpless animals.
- That doesn't give
you the right to ...
What did you do?
- Jailbreak (laughs).
- You're kidding.
All of them?
- You shoulda seen them.
- [Amy Lee] You're ridiculous.
- No, I'm passionate.
- [Amy Lee] That too.
- It's just like
you're schoolwork.
- That's different.
If I do things right, I'm set.
- It's not all about
the money, Amy Lee.
- I know.
I just don't want my kids,
to grow up the way I did.
I want them to have
everything I never could.
- Your childhood
wasn't that bad.
You met me.
- I just don't wanna
be poor anymore, Milo.
- Hey.
You placed in the 95th
percentile on your SAT.
You have a full-ride scholarship
to Northwood University.
Poverty, poverty's not
in the cards for you.
- Still.
Oh.
Here.
- Did Blaire make these?
- [Amy Lee] Who else?
- Just, bit edgy
for her, that's all.
So, what's this new
kid's name again?
Harvey? Hank?
- Hudson. Hudson Earnest.
- Right.
He's the kid who
started that whole
intentional driving movement.
- That's the one.
- Cool.
Hope he's not a conservative.
- Milo!
(soft mysterious music)
(crows cawing)
(soft mysterious music)
(soft mysterious
music continues)
(thunder rumbling)
- Oh, hey, Hudson!
Should we get a VSS photo?
- Sure.
- Okay.
- Harper, will you
take it for us?
- Yeah, of course.
- I feel like it's
just looking at me!
- Move back.
- [Harper] Okay,
one, two, three.
You look really great.
- Thanks.
- Thank you.
- Thank you so much.
- Thank you.
- Yo, new guy.
- Hi, um?
- Winter Reed.
Vice president. "Journals
of an Alcoholic"?
- Right, right.
Pretty creepy place for a party.
- Yeah, don't look at me.
Blaire planned this one.
- Yeah, where is our
fearless leader anyway?
- Welcome, everyone.
- Blaire? How'd you do that?
- Blaire is unavailable.
You may call me Wrath.
I will be your host
for the evening.
- Wrath? Come on.
Don't tell me this is some
stupid role-playing game.
Blaire, where's the party?
- [Wrath] I'm afraid I've
had to cancel your party.
Allow me to explain.
You are here to answer
for the vices and sins
you profess to fight against.
- Sins? This is the
Virtuous Student Society.
We haven't done anything.
- Each of you holds a secret
that could ruin your
life as you know it.
And I happen to have
proof of them all.
- What do you want?
- I have designed this
house to test your ability
to overcome the source
of these transgressions.
Fail to do so, and
I will release your
secret to the world.
- You're bluffing.
If you actually
had anything on us,
why not just release it?
- Mercy, Amy Lee.
I'm giving each of you a
chance to prove me wrong.
And I want the
world to see it all.
I have hacked into all
of Blaire Bradford's
social media accounts and
her 3.5 million followers.
If you wish to keep your
sins a secret from them,
you must overcome my
seven trials of fate
scattered throughout
the Nightmare on
13th before midnight.
The loser of each trial will
have their corruption revealed.
In the end, there can
be only one winner.
- Look, I don't know about
the rest of you guys,
but I got nothing to hide.
- You're welcome to
leave at any time.
- Hey, what gives?
- However, should you wish
to leave you must first look
into the eyes of God
and confess your sins.
Then shall the way
be open to you.
- What?
- He's talking
about the cameras.
Either we confess our
secrets or he will.
- [Wrath] If you
will not confess,
then the only other way out
is to play my little game.
Your first trial is to make
it to the Institute of Terror
before five minutes has passed.
There you will receive
further instructions.
Good luck, and remember,
we'll all be watching.
(clock ticking)
- What do we do now?
- Duh. We play!
- This isn't a game, Tay!
He's serious.
You guys got secrets,
like he says?
That's what I thought.
- Okay, so we call the cops.
- Yeah, and tell them what?
Our lives'll be ruined before
they can do anything about it.
- Oh yeah, you
seem very familiar
with the blackmail
process, Milo.
- What are you looking at?
- The camera.
I think the red light means
that it's livestreaming.
And when it's off,
that means it can't
see us on the stream, right?
- I wonder how he's
tapping into their feed.
It has to be hardware, right?
With how old that model is.
- I mean, not necessarily.
It depends on the setup.
- Will you guys focus?
We are not here to admire
the work of a psychopath!
- Hey, breathe, breathe.
It's gonna be fine.
We just have to, play along.
For now.
- Uh, no way. I'm not
giving in to this guy.
- Okay, fine, you can stay here.
The rest of us have four minutes
to find the Institute of Terror.
- Ooh, can I lead?
- Sure, we just need to go.
- Yeah, okay.
- Go, go, go.
(soft mysterious music)
- What's it gonna be, new guy?
(soft mysterious music)
- Sorry, I have to play.
- Whatever.
(clock ticking)
(soft mysterious music)
(players breathing hard)
- It's this way, go, go!
- Guys!
What's the hell's that? Hurry!
Hurry!
Watch it!
(players panicking)
(clock ticking)
(suspenseful music)
- [Taylee] Go, go!
(suspenseful music)
(Amy Lee shrieking)
(clock ticking)
(Wrath laughing)
- Winter Reed, vice
president of the VSS.
For your unrestrained desires
and your self-indulgence,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of gluttony.
- What? I thought you
said we had till midnight.
- For those who played.
You claim sobriety,
inspire thousands to
follow your example,
but do your fans
know it's all a lie?
Your relapse was inevitable,
given the way you
indulged in your fame,
your followers and your parties.
Yet you pretended
you were still clean.
I condemn you for
the sin of gluttony.
Let's see what your
followers think of that.
(phone pinging repeatedly)
- No, no, no, no!
- [Wrath] Say hello
to cancel culture.
(suspenseful music)
You are free to go.
Should anyone attempt
to leave with Winter,
you will suffer the
same fate as him.
The gates await you on the
other side of the building.
(soft suspenseful music)
- So this isn't a game?
- I don't think so.
(phone ringing)
- Sorry.
I need to, take this.
Jane.
- Hudson, are you okay?
Wrath's not kidding. The whole
thing's being livestreamed.
Who is he?
- [Hunter] I don't know.
- [Jane] Okay, the Nightmare
on 13th. What is that?
- It's a haunted
house by campus.
- Okay, we're
gonna come get you.
- No, you can't.
- Why?
What'd you do, forget to
return a library book?
You're not saying he actually
has something on you?
- [Hudson] I have to play.
- Hudson, what did you do?
(soft piano music)
- I can't say.
- [Jane] Right, the cameras.
- Look, I need you to
do something for me.
- [Jane] What?
- Did you notice anyone missing?
- Blaire?
- [Hudson] Exactly.
I need you to go to her
apartment and figure out why.
- Me? What if she's Wrath?
- Don't go inside. Just
look in the windows.
If we can link this toher,
we can get the cops here.
- And what about Mom and Dad?
- [Hudson] I don't
want them to know.
Besides, no one should know
you're working together
with me on this.
- [Jane] And the
200,000 people watching?
Mom and Dad are gonna find out.
- That's why we have
to nip this in the bud.
The viewers probably
think this is just
an elaborate prank right now.
I don't wanna give any more
validity to Wrath's claims.
- But,
I can't even drive.
I'm just gonna mess it up.
- [Hudson] Jane,
please.
(soft piano music)
- Okay, I'll try.
- Thanks.
- You're welcome.
But you owe me big time.
(soft music)
(suspenseful music on TV)
- Jane, you're up.
- You okay? Can we
get you anything?
- I'm okay.
Uh, Hudson invited
me to a party.
I was thinking I should go.
- Yeah, I'll get the car.
(soft mysterious music)
- What's going on?
- Taylee found this note.
- First cast off the beam
out of thine own eye?
- I'm thinking it's talking
about, like, a laser beam.
- Try plank of wood.
Matthew Seven, Verse Five.
It's from the Bible.
- You would know that.
- Hey, what's that
supposed to mean.
- Ethan, calm down.
It's just a joke.
She loves Jesus. So what?
- Just saying.
Whoever this Wrath character is
seems to know the
Bible pretty well too.
Maybe they go to
the same church.
Or, maybe ...
- What are you trying to say?
- It's obvious, isn't it?
Wrath has to be a
member of the VSS.
How else would they know
so much about all of us,
or why even target the
society for that matter?
All I'm saying is
it could be her?
- Well how do we
know it's not you.
- Guys, stop it.
- Hey! Would you
idiots use your brains?
Has anyone else
noticed that Blaire
is conveniently not here?
If Wrath is a member of the
society, my money's on Blaire.
- Kenzie can't be in
two places at once.
- Prerecordings, accomplices,
guaranteed whoever Wrath is
isn't working alone.
We shouldn't rule out anyone.
(crickets chirping)
- This doesn't look
like Hudson's place.
- Oh it's not. It's Blaire's.
Hudson's meeting me inside.
- Okay, well, it's good to see
the dynamic duo back in action.
- Dad.
- What?
Before the accident, you guys
were practically inseparable.
It was the perfect nickname.
Came up with it myself.
But have fun.
- I will.
(crickets chirping)
Third floor?
That's not gonna work.
(crickets chirping)
(soft suspenseful music)
(knocking on door)
(crickets chirping)
Sorry, Hudson.
Hello?
Blaire?
(crickets chirping)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(Jane gasping)
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(crow cawing)
(soft suspenseful music)
- You okay?
(soft suspenseful music)
We'll get through this.
- [Wrath] Congratulations on
making it to the institute
and passing your first trial.
The first step to healing is
admitting you have a problem.
You're all here
for your diagnosis.
(dummy screaming)
(soft suspenseful music)
Harper Auburn, please
report to Room One.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- We'll be right here.
- [Wrath] Milo
Rasmussen, Room Two.
Amy Lee Fitzgerald, Room Three.
(soft suspenseful music)
Hudson Earnest, Room Four.
(soft suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music)
(Jane breathing hard)
- By now you've probably
guessed that there's been
a slight change of
plans for this evening.
I apologize, but the corruption
cannot be allowed to continue.
Left unchecked, the evils of
your Virtuous Student Society
will spread like a cancer.
They must be exposed and
eliminated, starting with you.
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Recording] Hey,
this is Hudson Earnest.
Leave a message.
I'll get back to you.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(door closing)
(dramatic crescendo)
- No!
(door slamming)
- Do you think
they're all right?
- I hope so.
- You okay?
- Yeah.
(dummy screaming)
- [Wrath] The rest of you,
report to the basement.
I have something special
in mind for you three.
(soft suspenseful music)
Only the truth can
set you free now.
The last one to answer
their riddle correctly
will have their secret revealed.
(soft suspenseful music)
The wicked I am.
Nobody wants me, but those who
never have me nobody trusts.
What am I?
Oh, and I'd try to hurry.
In 10 minutes, the doors
will lock permanently
for all of you.
Good luck.
- [Milo] Hey, can
anybody hear me?
- Yeah, yeah, I can hear you.
- Me too.
- Amy Lee, are you okay?
- I'm here.
- Amy Lee, when you get
out, you need to try to find
a way to get the
rest of us out too.
- Right.
Okay.
- [Milo] Hey,
don't pressure her.
- What do you mean pressure?
She's one of the smartest
students at Northwood.
She's gonna get out in no time.
There's a, there's a hole
in the ceiling of my room.
I'm gonna see if I can reach it.
- [Wrath] Because
of me, through him,
the world might be saved.
All except Caesar,
whose life I took away.
What am I?
- Brutus killed Caesar.
Who saved the world through him?
Oh that's, that's Jesus!
Betrayal. You're betrayal!
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Hunter] Amy Lee, is that you?
- No, it's me. It's Harper.
- Oh, awesome. Um, can you
try to get us out of here?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Ah!
(soft suspenseful music)
It's no use. I can't unlock it!
- [Hudson] Go get the others.
- Okay. Don't go anywhere.
- [Hudson] Where do
you think we're going?
(Amy Lee crying)
- Milo!
- Amy Lee, I, I
need you to breathe.
It's gonna be okay.
- You don't know that!
- [Milo] I do. I'm, I'm
gonna get you out of this.
(soft suspenseful music)
- [Wrath] Yellow
is the hue I wear,
a color that hints
at the burden I bear.
With the heart of a chicken
and lacking a spine,
I'm as timid as mice,
but I'm often feline.
What am I?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Oh, I hate riddles.
(soft suspenseful music)
- It's no use. I can't reach it.
- A lion?
(timer buzzing)
Whoa, hey hey hey! Why
did my time go down?
- [Wrath] The penalty
for guessing incorrectly.
- Guys, don't guess
unless you're sure.
Every wrong answer,
we lose two minutes.
- [Wrath] Every
human has a purpose
and a will to do something,
but I think the other way,
making the sinner do nothing.
What am I?
(soft suspenseful music)
- I ...
I don't know.
I don't know.
- You behold the theme
within.
Guys, I think our riddles
having something to do
with the sins that
Wrath put us here for!
You're a coward.
The answer is, is a coward.
Amy Lee!
- Milo!
- Amy Lee!
(Milo groaning)
Come on!
- Think.
Where should I start?
Nobody wants me, but
those who never have me,
nobody can trust?
(hammer banging)
- [Milo] I'm here, Amy!
(Amy Lee crying)
- It's no use!
- You want a confession?
I'll confess. Just let her go!
- [Wrath] There is no
intercession for her sins.
Only she can deliver herself.
- This is all my fault.
- [Wrath] Five, four, three,
two, one.
- The answer is guilt!
(bell dinging)
(soft piano music)
- Amy Lee Fitzgerald,
for your overreliance
on others and for
choosing the easy way out,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of sloth.
- How?
She's a straight-A student.
She has a full ride
for her SAT score.
- You cheated on your SATs
and are undeserving
of your honors,
accolades and scholarship.
The school board
and every student
on campus has been notified.
At midnight, you
will be released.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- Leet speak all sound.
(phone ringing)
- Jane, now's not a good time.
- Blaire's dead.
- Blaire's dead? Seriously?
Are you okay?
- I'm fine. Any idea
who'd want her dead?
- No, no. She was literally
Northwood's pride and joy.
- Well, looks like
Wrath had a serious
vendetta against the VSS.
Andy idea of what
leet speak means?
- Leet speak?
No idea.
- It means a leet speech.
- A leet speech?
- Yeah, it means replacing
letters with numbers and stuff.
- Leet speak all sound.
- Wh, where you going?
- After the others.
Wrath's gotta be one of them.
- What? No.
That, yeah, mm, he's gone.
Did you, did you catch that?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Okay, I mean.
Hudson, how well
do you know Harper?
- Harper? Yeah,
that's our bad guy.
Have you met her?
- She's not technically a
leader in the VSS, right?
- No, no, she's
applied a few times
but Blaire always
rejected the application.
- I'm not saying she did it,
but sounds like a motive to me.
Also, she has a detailed file
on each of the VSS leaders.
- What? Why?
- You tell me.
There's nothing
incriminating here, but
she's meeting someone at
Sleepy Hollow any minute now.
She said she threatened
to reveal their secret.
- No.
No, there's, there's no way.
- Who's she emailing?
- MakeupMenace@NO13.com.
- I don't recognize it.
- NO13. I think someone
works for Nightmare on 13th.
That's how Wrath
rented the space.
If I can get to the records,
then I can match up
the name to an account.
- But the records would be here.
- Exactly. Looks like
I'm coming to you.
- No. That, that's
way too dangerous.
- I don't see any other option.
Wrath is watching
your every move.
- Okay.
But how, how are
you going to get in?
- I'll
figure it out.
With any luck,
I'll see you soon.
- Be careful, okay?
- You too.
(Hunter sighing)
- Sleepy Hollow, let's go.
(soft suspenseful music)
All right, I'm here.
Where are the girls?
- Welcome, Ethan, to the
maze you have created.
When you indulge in wickedness,
you create a tangled web.
- Where are they?
- Inside the maze, of
course, where I led them.
Only you can deliver them from
their current predicament.
(soft suspenseful music)
Keep the stream close, for it
will be your only way back.
- What are these supposed to be?
- Only one of them
may leave with you.
You'll have to choose.
Handcuff yourself to
the girl you love most,
and I will allow you
both to leave the maze
without revealing your secrets.
But for the other, well,
she won't be so lucky.
- What did Wrath
mean by all that?
- I, I don't know.
- I'm not playing
your sick game!
- Then they all remain
trapped in the maze.
You have 10 minutes to save one,
or I'll reveal all
of your secrets.
Enjoy.
(soft suspenseful music)
(door creaking and closing)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(floorboards creaking)
Did you bring them?
- They're all here.
- Give it to me.
- No.
I'm not letting you
do this to them.
These are good people.
- Good people?
You've seen the
corruption for yourself.
- But, look at the
good they've done.
They don't deserve this.
(suspenseful music)
- Choose the girl you love most?
That's so unfair.
What's gonna happen to you?
This is so dumb.
You haven't even
done anything bad.
You shouldn't even be here.
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- McKenzie? Kenzie,
where are you?
(soft suspenseful music)
McKenzie?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Why is he calling for you?
(soft suspenseful music)
- Are you and Ethan ...
Kenz?
- I'm sorry.
I didn't mean for it to happen.
It was supposed to
be a one-time thing,
but things evolved into
something real and ...
(soft suspenseful music)
And I think I love him.
- How dare you?
(hand slapping)
- Tay!
- Kenzie, come back here!
- There's still
time to stop this.
But, if you won't
I will, if I have to.
(soft suspenseful music)
- Harper Auburn, for
failing to be content
with your own accomplishments,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of envy.
- What?
(Harper gasping)
(suspenseful music)
- Kenzie!
(suspenseful music)
- Kenz. It's okay, you're okay.
- She knows. She knows about us.
- I know.
Wrath, Wrath says
I have to choose.
I can only free one person.
- And you're here.
I didn't know. I didn't
know if you would.
- Kenz.
You know I love you.
- You're choosing her?
- You deserve to hear
it from me. I'm sorry.
- Why?
If you love me then--
- I do, I ju ...
Not the same way I love Taylee.
- Five minutes remaining.
- I'm sorry.
- Go.
Just, just go.
(soft suspenseful music)
- McKenzie Valentine, for
allowing your passions
to overshadow your
religious beliefs,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of lust.
The gates stand open for you,
if you can find your own
way through the maze.
- What about Ethan?
- You were
Northwood's most pure,
with an entire
congregation seeking
to emulate your
commitment, not Ethan.
But rest assured, he
has more to answer for.
Consider yourself lucky.
(McKenzie crying)
(soft suspenseful music)
(Ethan groaning)
(Ethan groaning)
- McKenzie, you are so
dead when I find you!
- Tay, it's me!
Later, we're
running out of time!
- Don't touch me!
What are you doing?
- I'm trying to help.
Taylee, the string.
- Stop that!
- If we don't find that string,
then he's outting us all.
It's our only way out.
- One minute left.
- Oh, got it, got it.
- Okay, let's go. Come on.
Come on!
(dramatic music)
Come on, hurry!
- It's a dead end.
- It's a door. Help
me get it open.
(both groaning)
(dramatic music)
- Stay away from me!
- Taylee, I literally
can't go anywhere!
(suspenseful music)
(Ethan breathing)
(door creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Hudson, what have you done?
(Taylee gasping)
- I didn't do this.
The lights went out
and then she ...
- Harper?
Is she?
- Dead. Wrath killed her.
- So you say.
- Well I didn't kill her.
- If you know something,
Milo, just say it.
- All I know is, when I ran in,
Hudson was standing
over Harper's body.
- I'm telling you,
Wrath did this.
- I thought Blaire was Wrath.
Why would she kill
her best friend?
- Blaire's dead too.
- If Blaire is dead, that means
that one of you is Wrath.
- How do you know that?
You could just be saying that
to turn us against each other.
- I, I can't say, but you
guys just have to trust me.
- Trust you? You killed Harper!
- I didn't kill Harper.
I thought she might
be behind all this,
so I was following her.
- (scoffs) You thought
Harper was Wrath?
- No, Harper
wouldn't hurt a fly.
- You said the cameras
are always recording,
even when they're
not streaming, right?
- Yeah, what of it?
- That means that
there's video evidence
of Wrath killing Harper.
The, the cops would
have to intervene.
- Okay, then it's settled.
We'll go find the footage.
But until then, I
say we tie him up
so he doesn't try anything.
- You're not serious.
- It's not a bad plan.
- Guys,
come on.
- Hey!
He's getting away!
(dramatic music)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(indistinct banging)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- What?
- Hello, Jane. I was hoping
you would find your way here.
- Shut it down,
Blaire, or I will.
- What gave me away?
- The email?
Same one that rented the space.
Head makeup artist.
I guess that explains the body.
- Oh, a fan of mine.
More than happy to let
me work my magic on her.
- You're a monster.
- Why?
What have I done?
Exposed a few
well-deserving sinners?
Think bigger, Jane.
The world is full
of corrupt people
who just keep
getting away with it.
- Hudson is a good person.
- He's as corrupt as
the rest of them, Jane.
You know,
you remind me of myself.
- I am nothing like you.
- Listen to me, Jane!
I'm trying to give you the
same gift that I was given.
You've been taken
in by Hudson's lies
just like I was taken
in by my father's.
My father
showed me how to
be a good person.
Taught me the virtues
that I should uphold
and expected that I would do so.
I idolized him.
Sound familiar?
The saddest part is,
I truly believed that he
was that perfect example.
Upholding all the virtues.
Until I found my father
with another woman.
It was just a mask.
Like everyone else.
Look closely enough and
you can always find cracks.
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music continues)
(woman screaming)
(woman screaming)
(woman screaming)
If my father, best man I'd ever
known, wasn't a good person,
then no one could be.
And they needed to be exposed.
We need to bring
them to the light.
- So what, you decide who
the corrupt ones are now
and dole out the punishment?
- Oh, I don't need to.
For a good tree cannot
bring forth evil fruit,
neither can a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit.
- So heel me down, not Hudson.
- Jane, you have
done nothing wrong.
- I nearly killed someone.
The other driver is crippled
for life because of me.
- What do you actually
remember from that night?
- Bits and pieces.
I remember looking down
to change the song.
- Your medical records
say you suffered
from short-term amnesia.
Wouldn't you like
to know the truth?
(footsteps pounding)
(soft suspenseful music)
(footsteps pounding)
- Okay, stop, stop!
It clearly is not working.
We're running out of time!
- If you have any
ideas, I'm all ears!
- As much as I enjoy
watching the four of you
play cat and mouse, I have
another trial for you.
Hidden somewhere in this
house is a key to the exit.
Any of you may use the key
instead of confessing your sins.
However, the key is
for only one of you.
Using the key will
eliminate one hour
from the remaining guests' time.
You don't have to use the key,
but will the others
be as selfless?
- Hey!
- No, no no no, stop!
We are not going to outrun him.
We need to go the other way.
Come on!
(soft suspenseful music)
- Jane, you made it.
You have no idea how
glad I am to see you.
- Was it you?
- What are you talking about?
- Was, it, you?
- You know?
- How could you?
(Hudson sighing)
- I never meant to hurt
anyone, especially not you.
I just wanted to fit in.
And I wasn't
planning on driving.
I feel alone, every day
I hate myself
and that's okay
All I want and all I need
Another sleep
- I'm gonna lose my voice.
- Jane!
- When I came to, I
dragged you outta the crash
and I passed out, and I
woke up at the hospital.
And they told me that you
had short-term memory loss
and it might never
come back to you,
and, and I overheard that ...
I overheard the
doctors talk about you
crashing the car and
I just froze.
The alcohol wasn't a problem
if I was just a passenger
and you were a just a minor.
The judges would go easy on you.
(soft piano music)
So I didn't say anything.
And I've hated
myself ever since.
I'm so sorry, Jane.
- Don't!
You ruined my life, my future.
You let me walk around
with this guilt for months!
I could have gone to jail!
You don't get to be sorry.
- I know.
Jane, where are you going?
- Home.
You deserve everything
that's coming to you.
(Hudson breathing shakily)
- There's a chest back
there with the tags.
- Obviously, there's
nothing in that chest.
- I mean, you say obviously,
I didn't think it
was that obvious.
- Whoa, I found it!
- Taylee!
- Okay.
- Give it, give it. Let me ...
- Do you even know
how to unlock it?
- Yes, I can do it.
- Give it to me. Let me do it.
(soft suspenseful music)
- So now--
- Do not!
(key clicking)'
Oh.
(soft suspenseful music)
You're not gonna
fight me for it?
- Take it.
I should do at least
one thing right by you.
You deserve it.
(soft suspenseful music)
(footsteps padding)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Yeah.
- He won't let us leave,
not until the game is over.
- Oh.
- Taylee Palmer, for failing
to put others before yourself,
you are hereby condemned
for the sin of greed.
- But you said anyone with this
key would be free to leave.
- I said you wouldn't
have to confess.
I never said I wouldn't
condemn you for your choice.
- You tricked me.
- This all could have been
avoided were you free from sin.
Instead, you are condemned
as a penalty for your greed,
and as a result one
hour has been taken
from the remaining time.
- That's not fair.
- Not fair?
As a financial
advisor and accountant
at Giving Tree Charity,
it was your job
to help the poor and needy.
But you skimmed off the top,
raided the books in your favor
and for what?
Clothes, jewelry, cars.
You stole from those in need
to purchase temporary pleasures.
You are the epitome of greed.
(suspenseful music)
Congratulations to
those who remain.
You are my final guests.
But with only an hour left
thanks to Taylee's betrayal,
you will need to hurry if
you want your secret kept.
Join me in Blackwater
for your final trial.
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- You?
- Me.
(both groaning)
Ethan, hey!
(soft suspenseful music)
(Jane crying)
(phone ringing)
(phone ringing)
- Hello?
- Dad.
- Are you okay? What's going on?
- I think I'm ready
to come home now.
- Are you sure? What happened?
- Nothing.
- Want me to come
beat somebody up?
(Jane crying)
- Probably.
- Same place?
- Nightmare on 13th.
- Okay, I'll head over right
now. I'll see you soon.
- Dad?
- Yeah?
- Why are people the worst?
- Sweetheart, you know,
I don't really believe
people are inherently
good or bad.
At least we shouldn't
judge people
by their mistakes, you know?
We can talk about it when
I come get you, okay?
Love you.
- Love you too.
(soft suspenseful music)
- What is this?
- What?
- What is this?
- You, you attacked me.
- I did not.
You ...
You're the one that drugged me!
- Wait, why, why aren't
you in a straitjacket?
- This game is one of deceit.
One of you has been assisting
me from the very beginning.
Hudson, it is up to you
decide who is guilty,
since you seem to be
the expert in that area.
(soft suspenseful music)
(floorboards creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
Milo or Ethan?
Free the guilty and I will
reveal both of your secrets.
Free the other, and I
will only reveal theirs.
- Then our secrets
get spilled anyway?
How is this a game if
there's no way to win?
- There's only one
winner in this game.
How does it feel,
Hudson, to have two lives
in the palm of your hand?
Again.
- No.
No, I'm done.
I'm done with all this.
Because of you, I lost the only
person I was pretending for.
(Hudson breathing hard)
You think I don't hate
myself for what I did?
Your game's not
proving anything.
Jane was the only, the
only reason I kept trying.
Trying to change,
trying to atone.
And you turned her against me!
- Don't put your sins on me!
- Don't act like
you're better than us!
I condemn you.
I condemn you for
the sin of wrath.
You forced us all to
see the darkness when,
when we're all just
looking for a little light.
- Refuse to choose and I will
reveal both of their secrets.
(men grunting)
- I did it.
- Stop!
- I was the drunk driver
who crippled my sister,
and I nearly killed
the other driver.
I accept full responsibility
for my actions.
- But this guy?
- And I too have a secret.
- Shut it down, shut it down.
- I fixed games so I could
stay on the soccer team
and keep my scholarship.
(soft suspenseful music)
What?
Aren't we all, like, confessing?
- You guys wanna ruin your
futures, don't let me stop you.
- Enough! You think
this will stop me?
You've only sped up my timeline.
- No, but this might.
Wrath killed someone in here.
If you're listening,
please help us.
Wrath killed--
(power shutting down)
- You realize you just
doomed us all, right?
And he's gonna release
my secret outta spite.
- Not if we can get to
the security footage.
Then we'll have some
blackmail on him.
- Aren't you
forgetting something?
We still have to find
a way out of here.
(man groaning)
(soft suspenseful music)
(door creaking)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Deceit.
This one's mine.
I'm gonna go try to
find the security room.
- Hey, we can help you, Hudson.
- Not if one of you's
working with Wrath.
- What are we supposed to do?
- Whatever you want.
I, I have something I
have to take care of.
(door opening)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Needs a password.
Move.
(soft suspenseful music)
- You're not going anywhere.
The cops will be
here any second.
- Think about what
you're doing, Jane.
There is so much
corruption in the world.
We can root it out.
- Face it, Blaire, it's over.
(sirens blaring in distance)
- No.
No!
- In about an hour, we should
have the password cracked,
and we can access the
surveillance files.
- So, Ethan was the traitor?
- Yeah, apparently.
- And you can do this
with any hard drive?
(upbeat suspenseful music)
Ethan's not the accomplice.
It's you.
- What are you talking about?
- You, you're the
only one who could
access all of our files.
You've been helping him
since the, the beginning.
You're not breaking the
password. What are you doing?
- It's a virus.
It should finish
the job by midnight.
- Why are you doing this?
Why are you helping him?
After everything he did to us?
After everything
he did to Amy Lee?
- He caught me helping
Amy Lee cheat on the SAT.
He's been using that
to blackmail me.
After what he did Amy Lee,
I thought I could
stand up to him but
I can't help her
if I'm in prison.
- So what? You do what he
says and you get the key?
- Yeah.
And Wrath keeps my
illegal hacking a secret.
I can use the key as soon
as I erase the footage.
- Milo.
If that program finishes,
there will be no evidence
of Wrath killing Harper!
- Don't lecture me like
you're better than I am!
I know what you did.
At least I was trying
to help people.
- I can't let you do this.
(dramatic music)
(Hudson groaning)
- Is this your
first fight, Hudson?
- It's not yours?
- Dude, I'm an activist.
My fights usually involve
tear gas and riot shields.
- That's right.
(both groaning)
- Hudson.
(both groaning)
(dramatic music)
Hudson.
Stay down.
You're not gonna win.
- I wouldn't want
to, even if I could.
(Hudson breathing hard)
You're not a bad guy, Milo.
Wrath has lost.
Don't go down with him.
(suspenseful music)
(siren blaring)
(door slamming)
(soft suspenseful music)
- Blaire, stop!
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
I have Harper's phone!
You're no angel, Blaire!
You killed Harper!
(both shouting)
(soft suspenseful music)
(soft suspenseful
music continues)
- That was an accident!
Harper wasn't
supposed to be here!
She found the files.
The files she found
would have directly
linked me to Wrath.
But, as soon as Milo
erases the footage,
I'll be free to
continue my work.
(soft suspenseful music)
- If this footage
doesn't get erased,
he's gonna know it was me.
He'll tell everyone.
- So let him.
There will always
be someone like,
like Wrath or Amy
Lee to use you.
I may not be able to stop you,
but if you don't
stand up for yourself
like you stand up for others,
you're never gonna be free
of this endless cycle.
You don't wanna be
a coward anymore?
This is what courage feels like.
(soft suspenseful music)
(Milo breathing hard)
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
- You need to start
believing you deserve it.
(suspenseful music)
(suspenseful music continues)
(suspenseful music continues)
(music stops)
(footsteps running)
(Jane grunting)
- Jane? How did you
get here before us?
- Shortcut.
- Blaire's Wrath?
Blaire's alive?
(Blaire screaming)
- Let me go!
I'll tell everyone
what you've done!
- You can't control me anymore.
I'm ready to own
up with what I did.
- You'll go to jail
for what you did!
- It's what good people do.
- Go to jail?
- No, no I meant like, like
take responsibility for your ...
Just forget it.
It's not important.
- Stay where you are!
- You ready?
- As I'll ever be.
(soft piano music)
(soft piano music continues)
- Amy.
You okay?
- Not really.
You?
- Not at all.
- Can we get some
help over here?
- All right, is
everything okay over here?
- You went back for her.
- Well I couldn't
just leave her.
(soft piano music)
(soft piano music continues)
- Hey, you did good, kid.
- Thanks.
- Ever thought of
being a detective?
- I don't know if I'd go that
far, but maybe a journalist?
- I can see that.
(soft piano music)
- And that was the end of
the Virtuous Student Society.
It's been one year since then,
and in honor of the event
that started my
career in journalism,
this week's Flashback
Friday will feature
a where are they now?
The VSS was dissolved,
and in its place
an organization was formed,
the Harper Auburn Foundation,
an organization that focuses
less on lofty achievements
and fame, and more on the
stuff that really matters.
McKenzie Valentine, no
one respected her choice,
but it's not like she had
done anything illegal.
It took a while to recover,
but after speaking with her,
it sounds like the experience
provided her with a wakeup call.
She's since moved on
and has found someone
who actually loves her
for all of who she is.
She's hopeful it
will be the start
of a long and
happy relationship.
Both Ethan and Amy
Lee were expelled
from Northwood for
their dishonesty.
Since then, Ethan has been
working at a mechanic shop
while he tries to put the pieces
of his future back together.
He keeps the key meant
for him as a reminder
to do things the
right way this time.
With her test
scores invalidated,
Amy Lee had to start
completely from scratch.
But she's been working
hard over the past year
to study for and retake the SAT.
We'll see if all her
hard work pays off,
but I have a feeling it will.
I was unable to
track down Winter
after the loss of his fan base,
but I like to think he's
getting himself clean,
for real this time.
In exchange for a
reduced sentence,
Milo agreed to
help the government
catch other hackers like him
and now runs a blog about
the unconstitutional nature
of America's prison system.
Meanwhile, Taylee
is allowed to work
at the Northwood soup
kitchen every week.
When she's released from
prison, she told me her goal
will be to repay
ever cent she stole
from the Giving Tree Charity.
Thanks to the security footage,
Blaire was convicted
for Harper's murder
and was incarcerated
at the local prison.
Hopefully, that's the last we'll
see of her for a long time.
Today marks the end of at
least one of their sentences,
and I for one can't
wait to see him.
(upbeat pounding music)
- Woo, yeah!
(group cheering)
- Oh.
- Hudson.
- There he is!
I wanna let you
know that I'm here
(upbeat rock music)
- Welcome back, Hudson.
I can't seem to find my way
- So, when does
school start again?
- Next week, but it's
basically like Jane never left.
- The Northwood
Inquisitor needed someone
competent to run it this time.
- Uh, how's the leg?
- The doctor says soon it
will be back to normal.
- Whoa.
Jane, I'm really, I'm
really proud of you.
- And we're so proud of you.
Out early for good behavior.
- And conditional on my
community service hours,
which is basically my life now.
(both laughing)
- Let's go get some food.
- Yeah, uh, could we have a sec?
- Yeah.
(birds singing)
- Uh, I don't think I
can ever apologize enough
for what I did.
- You don't have to.
We've spent enough time
dwelling on our mistakes.
Maybe let's just try
and move forward.
Will you miss me
when I'm gone?
Will you still think of me?
Do you know at all?
Where are all my
loyal friends?
They say the end is near,
so where do I begin?
You will know
me, do you know?
(upbeat music)
I can make it work somehow
Tell me
Do I wanna know?
Is it a lie you told
to pull me closer?
Tell me
Do I wanna hear?
Is it a dream I'm
in (indistinct)
Am I really that unknown?
I was at your party,
standing all alone
While you drank
to your expense
(upbeat music)
But I'm not having fun,
I want it all to end
Heading out along the fray
I will never be that way
Tell me
Do I wanna know?
Is it all a lie you told
To pull me closer?
Tell me
Do I wanna hear?
(music fading out)
