1
[dramatic music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[crew] Ready?
-Are you with us?
-Yeah, I think so.
-What's your name?
-Estelle Johnson.
-Are you from the management?
-[Estelle] Yes.
Put the big fucking bag under there.
-Yeah.
-I'm sure you met--
-you met the others through here.
-Yeah.
-How you doing, man?
-Hey.
-Do you know each other?
-Yeah.
Is it all right if I put my bag here?
-[man] Yeah, no worries, yeah.
-Cool.
-All right.
-All right, Johnny?
[Johnny] Hi. How you doing, mate?
[engine revving]
Rule number one, no shitting on the bus.
If you need to go, top manager's bunk.
Don't go in the toilet.
[man] But if you're really desperate,
-carry a bag over the toilet.
-[man] Carry a bag
over the--over the toilet, yeah.
Shit in the bag, tie a little knot.
-[man] Sling it out of the roof.
-Sling it out of the roof, yeah.
I've actually had to clear a shit
from a bus before.
[man] Yeah.
And he's not talking about
the lead guitarist either.
-Have you ever played 52-card pickup?
-[woman] No.
Here you go.
[laughter]
[man] Pick 'em up.
You're better
-You'd better sleep in the other way.
-Hmm?
You're better sleeping
with your head up that side
and your feet down that side.
Why?
Well if you--if we crash
and your feet is up there,
then your feet will get smashed in
but if your head's that way
then your head will get smashed in.
[snoring]
[woman laughs]
[woman] You're [indistinct]
Do you know where the best place
to get the best breakfast is?
-Oran Mor in Glasgow, you know Oran Mor?
-Oh, yeah, yeah.
I always go there in Glasgow
to get [indistinct]
[man] That's where I spent New Year.
[indistinct chatter]
-Did you get much sleep?
-Hmm?
Did you get much sleep?
A little bit.
-Excuse me, mate.
-No worries.
Estelle? Band and crew shower
after the gig
so if you want one, get one before.
-[Estelle] Okay.
-All right.
Um, do you know
where the changing rooms are?
Uh, yeah. Through the double doors.
-Okay.
-Yeah.
[woman] Yeah.
[indistinct chatter]
[Estelle] Oh!
Oh, sorry, uh,
do you know where the shower is?
Uh, there's one in here
and there's one somewhere else.
[Estelle] Okay. Sorry.
[indistinct chatter]
All right. What are we doing?
You join us again,
in the house with full effect.
-Hi, guys.
-Hello.
-Um--
-Hi.
Do you--we've, kind of,
worked before slightly.
-I'm Estelle from the management.
-Hi.
-Joff.
-Joff?
-How you doing?
-Ellie.
-Hello.
-Nice to meet you.
-Nice to meet you.
-Hello.
So, um, do you know guys mind if I--
so I'm gonna be taking pictures
of the sound check and possibly the show,
like, behind the scene stuff.
Is that all right, yeah?
-Yeah, that's fine.
-[Estelle] Are you all good with that?
Yeah.
[man vocalizing]
[man 1] I really--I think
it'd be such a good show.
[man 2] Yeah, it's cool, yeah.
Maybe that and then dun, dun,
because that makes it
a bit like Brian Jonesy.
So you have to just give me
a second to plug in and be like--
[man] Yeah.
I'd trickle it in personally.
[rock music playing]
[man] Does someone shout
where it's supposed to get big?
-[woman] I just did.
-[man] I couldn't hear anything, sorry.
Let's do it like
this is for the real thing
like, this is like a school play.
[indistinct chatter]
-[Ellie vocalizing]
-[rock music playing]
Joff, someone's eating
your gluten-free sandwich.
[man] Yup.
Hey, hey, hey.
It's the ferry at 2:00
we're gonna miss it probably but--
-Do you think?
-No. [laughs]
-Hello?
-Hey, how are you?
-Are you Adam and Reiter?
-Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
-I'm Estelle. Nice to meet you.
-Hey, how are you?
-I'm with the management of the band.
-Very good.
-Do you have the towels, uh, for--
-Yeah. Yeah.
[makes sound]
Yeah. Right, just there.
-Yeah, I really like it.
-[man] Will it last a bar?
Literally, yeah.
[makes sound]
-I get it.
-Yeah. I really like that.
[makes sound]
See, at the end
when you were doing that, if you just--
will you hang on the first note and see
-what that sounds like, that might--
-Yeah.
[man] Do you wanna go?
["Heavenward" playing]
I'm gonna celebrate you forever
You taught me things
We all should learn
Yeah, I gonna celebrate you forever
[indistinct chatter]
Down with music.
-[laughs]
-[man] Hop on.
[man] Jeremy Corbyn
and all the left wing communists
want you to listen to Wolf Alice
and Drentch.
[chuckles]
[indistinct chatter]
[beeping]
We'll just have a piss
and we'll do a line check.
[cheers and applause]
["Moaning Lisa Smile" playing]
She needs a lover
To escape her father and mother
She hopes for some other way
Out of the hole
She's over achieving
Chasing her dreams
And coming down slowly
Yeah, it's out of control
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
Scrap the blues
If the blues don't work
Flash your teeth
Though the inside hurts
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] Thank you.
We're DJ-ing later at a night club
and honestly we are the worst DJs
you've ever seen so you should
come down because we'll do a--
[man] Electric circus.
["Giant Peach" playing]
Tired of waiting
For the bus to nowhere
And tired of chasing the stone fox
I don't tell lies no more, ya know
I just don't tell the truth
I don't know
What I'm looking for, ya know
But I'm not looking for proof
I have a tricky love affair, ya know
With the place where I grew up
But it knows I'll never leave, ya know
I never left it much
I hate to see it despair
Oh, don't you do it
I hate to see it screw up
But it knows I can hardly grieve
When it's hard to give
A hard to give a
[screams]
[rock music playing]
Don't know what keeps me here
It's not the boy giving the funny feels
Don't know what keeps me here
It's not the P to pay for the wheel
What the hell keeps me here?
In this dark old town that I've adored
The rules don't seem so clear
And change, it feels like fear
It's all you know
Our dark
And pretty town
Our dark and pretty town
Our dark and handsome town
Our dark and pretty town
My dark and pretty town!
[rock music playing]
[cheers and applause]
Thank you.
[man] You are--did you go?
[indistinct chatter]
Gentlemen, walk back
to that side of the gate, please.
Out the way!
-[indistinct chatter]
-[camera shutter clicks]
I'm worried about you
not having enough fun.
Have you had a drink tonight?
[Estelle] I had one beer.
Right. We need to get you
some Jager bombs.
-[bottle pops]
-[Estelle] Wow.
Genius.
[man] Right-o. Shots to J Mo,
he's having one.
Wait, here we go. Drop it right down.
[screams]
["Kids" playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[crowd humming]
You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward it
Making momma so proud
[crowd] But your voice is too loud!
[man yells]
We like to watch you laughing
[woman] What's happened?
[indistinct chatter]
[woman] Help!
-[indistinct chatter]
-[laughter]
[indistinct PA chatter]
[acoustic music playing]
Oh, wow. Wow.
That is incredible.
I wanna go there. [chuckles]
I've been trying out
Going down this round, round
It hasn't been easy
-It hasn't been
-Estelle.
-[Estelle] Yeah.
-[Paul] Just keep it down in here.
People are still asleep.
[Estelle] Oh, okay. Sorry. Sorry.
How exactly do you know the band?
Oh, I went to school with Ellie.
Okay.
-Secondary or primary?
-[Maddy] Secondary.
-[Estelle] Secondary.
-[Maddy] Secondary.
[Joe] Did she talk more then?
She talks now,
she just doesn't talk to you.
-[Joe] Ouch.
-[laughs]
-How are you doing?
-How are you? All right.
Well, good to see you.
What time did you get here?
-Uh, about half an hour ago.
-Yeah?
[band music playing]
[singer] I'm pregnant with the meaning
So all I do is preach to my brother
[man 1] Yeah, you can get good--
more sound even [indistinct]
[man 2]
Something's cracking out here.
[man 1] Something ruckus out there?
[man 2] Something's cracking out here.
[indistinct chatter]
All right. Does anyone wanna play
poor man's pool?
We're picking up another person's game,
and just finishing it.
-Oh.
-Oh.
It's because of the repertoire.
I've needed a piss for so long,
but I'm too lazy to go to the toilet.
[rock music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[rock music playing]
[crowd cheering]
[Ellie] Hello, Keele!
How we doin'?
Hope you're good.
[Joff] Two people over there
trying to fight a little bit.
Don't fucking do that, please.
I beg you.
Let's have a good time safely,
responsibly.
[rock music playing]
[crowd cheering]
[indistinct chatter]
[solo guitar music playing]
[Joe] So have you ever been to Liverpool?
-[Estelle] No.
-No?
You ever been to Manchester?
Nope.
[Joe] Ever been to York?
-Nope.
-[Joe] Ever been to Norwich?
-No.
-You ever been to Nottingham?
-No.
-Ever been to Oxford?
-[Estelle] No.
-[Joe] Had you ever been to Dublin?
-Yeah.
-You've been in Dublin?
-No.
-[laughter]
I bet--
Don't say you've been to Keele.
No.
You ever been to Glasgow?
[Estelle] No.
Glasgow is probably the best one.
[indistinct chatter]
No, no, yes, no, no.
Alex, you got to move the bus, mate.
You got a block of wood or something
to put under the edge of the ramp?
'Cause otherwise,
it'll fuck it on the hinges.
How's it going?
-Good.
-Yeah?
-Pretty tired all the time.
-[laughs]
Crushing.
I've got three months.
That's when we have a day off
then we go to America for two months.
[indistinct chatter]
It's quite big though,
the tambourine,
and a clap, we need--
which needs to come out.
[indistinct chatter]
-Hi.
-Mark?
Estelle. Um, so the band ready for you.
-Um, but I'll take you to the bus.
-Okay, cool.
Um, and then you can set-up and everything
and then I'll go and grab them.
[Mark] How'd you come up with the name?
The name comes from a short story
about Angela Carter,
part of a collection of adult fairy tales
called the Bloody Chamber.
And don't know, I just-- when we chose it,
I wasn't thinking too much about,
oh, a band name that I wanna have
for the rest of my life.
I just-- the themes and imagery
and it was just kind of suitable
for whatever reason, you know.
It just felt applicable to probably me,
but then also us, yeah.
[Mark]
It's quite interesting that it does--
it's quite evocative of the music.
["Bros" playing]
[Ellie] Ooh, jump that 43
Are you wild like me?
Raised by wolves and other beasts
I tell you all the time
I'm not mad
You tell me all the time
I got plans
I wanna have the tiniest bit more vocals.
Do you want another track, Johnny?
[Johnny] Yeah.
Do you need another track?
[Johnny] Um, I'm absolutely fine.
I'm happy and dandy,
whatever you need to do.
Actually, I'll have my vocals
in between those two.
Did you take my bass down?
Can I have it back to where it was? Sorry.
["Planet Hunter" playing]
Am I a planet hunter
Or a brave deviator?
I left
My mind behind
In 2015
I feel like it should--
like it should go after the--
Yeah, we still--
I played it wrong this time.
It should go.
[guitar music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[man 1] Listen, I've got two names
that when they arrive,
they don't have passes
and I need to get them in.
-Right.
-[man 2] You need to give them
these two passes.
[man 1] Their name is Karen Banks
and Rob Banks.
-Okay. Rob Banks?
-Rob Banks.
-Karen Banks and Rob Banks?
-[man 3] We need to get--
when they come in,
we need to get them back off.
-[man 2] Yeah. You welcome them with it.
-[man 3] The guest list is full.
-Right. So, I'll get them up then.
-When they get into the thing.
-Get in--
-And then just run them back there.
-Yeah.
-Okay.
-Uh, I think it's Karen Banks and--
-Karen Banks and Rob Banks.
I've got--I mean,
that sounds wrong though.
I'll just--I'll listen out for Banks.
That's just the same thing.
[man] Right, right,
they rob the banks, all of them.
Oh, look, oh, look Aaron Rob Banks.
I don't know but a family
fall out or something.
[Estelle] Right. Well,
I'll go over and do that now.
-And see if they're here.
-[overlapping chatter]
-And then I'll bring these back.
-It's one of those--his--a buddy of his.
Right, instead of bassists
the [indistinct]
-Got ya.
-[indistinct]
Got ya, got ya. All right.
-See you guys in a bit.
-[man] See you in a bit.
-You gotta take the rough with the smooth.
-'Cause you have.
-You know what I mean? 'Cause, like--
-Yeah.
All right I've had this nightmare,
but in 10 minutes time,
I'm about to go on that stage
and tour with the fam,
you know what I mean?
[laughter]
["King City" playing]
'Cause I'm in love, so old
Put your flowers down, it's too cold
Fuck your romance
I wanna pretend
That Jenny Lee Lindberg
is my girlfriend
Oh, oh, oh, oh
[indistinct chatter]
Nice drum kit.
[crowd cheering]
[man] Let's break!
Ready?
Let's go, guys.
[crowd cheering]
[indistinct chatter]
One! Two! Three! Four!
Five! Six! Seven!
["You're A Germ" playing]
You ain't going to heaven
'Cause I'm dragging you down to hell
Where's Mum and Dad
So you can tell them?
You're a dodgy fucker as well
You ain't going to heaven
'Cause I'm dragging you down to hell
Where's Mum and Dad
So you can tell them?
You can tell them
You're a dodgy fucker as well
Yes, you are!
[crowd cheering]
[rock music playing]
[crowd cheering]
Thank you, Liverpool.
Thank you so much.
[crowd cheering]
There you are.
[indistinct chatter]
[man] T-shirt now, guys?
Any T-shirts now girls
before you go out of price?
[makes sound]
[laughter]
[indistinct chatter]
You need to work out your differences
between your cubes and your rectangles.
You need to fuck off.
-I know.
-Hey, come on.
Right, there you go.
See?
[man] Indonesia got cancelled.
So I sent us back to Brisbane in two days,
all the way home via Dubai.
So two days later,
they sent us back to Singapore
for a day and a half and sent us home.
Oh.
[indistinct chatter]
[man] Yup. Hold on.
How did you sleep my love?
Not too bad.
[guitar music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
James, is there any chance I can get
a mate on the guest list tonight?
Suppose so, yeah.
-Who is it?
-[man] Uh, Gary Doyle.
[Joe] Just put it in a text.
So, I've got his name.
-[indistinct]
-I know, you can go back.
We'll shoot it back
-as far as we can.
-That's fine.
We've not got--we've got nothing to lose.
State of you last night, Johnny.
[Joe] Owen has got abnormally large feet.
Uh, he's like a translucent amphibian,
with his big flipper.
[laughs]
Is that what they call it?
What's the name of those fish
that are completely see-through?
[man] Axolotls.
-Where the hell did that--
-No.
Where the hell did that just--
-What did you say? Axolotls?
-[man] Axolotl.
-[Joe] Axolotl.
-It's an un-evolved salamander.
[indistinct chatter]
Oh, yeah.
-[indistinct]
-Sorry I'm late.
Fuck it. I haven't seen you
in about five years.
And that's all you've got to say?
Come here son.
Give us a fucking-- how you doing, pal?
["Fluffy" playing]
[vocalizing]
Sixteen!
So sweet!
[Ellie vocalizing]
Sixteen!
So sweet!
[instrumental music playing]
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] I'd like to dedicate
this next song to my friend Flynn,
who is the coolest teenager
I have ever met.
[cheers and applause]
["Blush" playing]
Curse the things
That made me sad for so long
Yeah, it hurts to think
That they can still go on
I'm happy now
Are you happy now?
["Hate to Say I Told You So" playing]
[singer] Do what I want 'cause I can
And if I don't, because I wanna
Be ignored by the stiff and the bored
Because I'm gonna
Spit and retrieve 'cause I give
And receive, because I wanna
Gonna get through your head,
What the mystery man said
Because I'm gonna
Hate to say I told you so, all right!
[laughter]
[singer] Come on!
Do believe I told you so
Now it's all out and you know
-Let's go do [indistinct]
-[Gary] Do you really wanna with that?
That was my favourite.
Do you do, do, do, do, do you wanna?
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
We're gonna take the high walk
to Europe with us--
because that was less loaded.
-[Gary] Oh, really?
-Club gigs. Try it out. Yeah
[Gary] What's it got?
A head and cab?
[Joe] Yeah.
You wanna see your mum,
when you're back up?
[man] That's a real one.
-Yeah.
-[indistinct chatter]
You should go and see her, Joe.
They are a fucking mess, man.
-It's the worst I've ever seen her.
-Yeah.
I mean, I don't--you know, it's cool,
I don't-- just go and see her, man.
Cheers, big man.
All the best mate, take care.
Here.
Here, do you want some money?
Cheers, Joe. Take care of yourself, huh?
Yup.
[dramatic music playing]
[chuckles]
[dramatic music playing]
Uh, BBC Radio Norfolk
with Stephen Bumfrey and Wolf Alice!
[cheers and applause]
Thank you, best BBC segment.
I got a feeling there's marginally
more people in the studio
than actually listening
to the program this afternoon.
I couldn't believe my luck when we--
when we knew that you were coming in.
What's it like to be, uh, to be
so wanted everywhere you go?
-[Joel] Amazing.
-[Stephen] You're right there.
[Joel] No, I don't know actually.
I don't know if we are.
Do you mean how much has your life
changed over the recent past then?
[Ellie] Um, just being
on the road all the time
is the biggest change, I suppose, um,
just not really ever going home, ever so.
[laughs] It's quite hard, but
Also coming up in the next hour.
of the program
Natty is gonna be on the phone.
I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago.
He is lovely.
Is that the singer Natty, you mean?
Actual Natty.
[Joel] Then the guy Natty?
-Yeah.
-Yeah.
Wait, is Natty coming into the studio?
[indistinct chatter]
All right. What's the next track
you wanna do for us? Just this one.
[Ellie] Uh, this is an acoustic
version of our song called Fluffy.
[Stephen] Oh, I like it already.
-Oh.
-Easy.
-[laughs]
-All right.
One, two, three, four.
["Fluffy" playing]
You look smart
But I don't care
I'm not looking for no love affair
I'd sell you my soul
Just to get me somewhere
What's there to do
In this dead-out town?
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
So I'm searching for cheap thrills
Some way and somehow
Sixteen
-So sweet!
-So sweet!
Sixteen
-So sweet!
-So sweet!
I need a ride
And make it bright and early
What makes you smile
Just makes me feel funny
So who's gonna love me here
-And where's all the money?
-[Joe] I really like it.
[Ellie] God, I really like it.
It's like, living in another world.
[Estelle] Oh Joe, you should have
come to the DJ set last night.
-[Ellie] Ah.
-[Joe] Yeah?
-[Estelle] Yeah.
-[Ellie] I wish you'd come.
[Estelle] Should have.
-[Joe] Was it good?
-[Estelle] It was great.
[Ellie] It was actually, it was really--
it was really fun.
[Estelle] It was a lot
of funny, wasn't it?
I wanna swap with someone in the box.
[Ellie] Which one?
[Estelle] One of the ones over,
because that
-[Ellie] Yeah.
-[Estelle] That looks so good.
[Ellie] Lake facing.
["Giant Peach" playing]
But it knows I can hardly grieve
When it's hard to give a
Hard to give a fuck!
[guitar music playing]
[laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
[acoustic guitar playing]
[man] So close.
-[man] Can't play with it.
-You can play.
-[man] [indistinct]
-Yeah, it's like rock.
I stopped writing folklore.
[Estelle laughs]
[Joel] That was very nice,
the guitar playing.
-Probably get a new guitar.
-[man] Thanks.
-Yes.
-Not talking to you, old man.
-I know it's weird, isn't it?
-What is it?
It's a travel guitar.
So it's like a little.
Do you remember when
Owen bought that--
-[woman] Little one.
-Fucking piece of shit
to go on tour with us.
He came back, like, "you see what I got?"
-I was, like, that's disgusting.
-[man] Oh yeah. That horrible thing.
-[woman] You know, it's like
-What if I can travel [indistinct]
[man] Yeah. Oh, is it nylon strings?
Yeah. It's like a classical guitar though.
-I don't know.
["The Only Exception" playing]
It always just reminded me
of that really big
-Oh, here we go.
-Hawaiian dance.
You sang
[Ellie] When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart and I watched
As he tried to reassemble it
And my momma swore
That she would never let her
Who wants to hear Joe sing a song?
Some people, not everyone.
["Swallowtail" playing]
Swallowtail
I met you up atop The Shard
As we fell
I never thought we'd hit this hard
It's not right
But it's too late for that now
Swallow fear
And head straight down into the ground
Swallowtail
I met you up atop The Shard
As we fell
[instrumental music playing]
[man] This used to be a carpet shop.
[dramatic music playing]
You all right?
-[Estelle] That's yours.
-[Joff] Cheers, thank you.
[Estelle] Thank you very much.
Listen, this ice cream
reminds me of my mum.
She used to take me to the park and we--
we'd get Smarties ice cream,
almost this exact flavour.
-Really?
-Uh-hmm.
I love that one.
The taste and the smell, you know,
makes you think of something.
How old are you?
Twenty-one.
How old are you?
Twenty-six.
Really?
[laughs]
You don't believe me?
How old did you think I was, like, 30, 35?
-No, you just--
-I get that.
-You just seem older.
-[chuckles]
Well, that's life on the road for you.
-[chuckles]
-It makes you grizzled.
[Estelle chuckles]
A grizzly bear. [chuckles]
-[chuckles] Yeah.
-Joe the Grizzly Bear.
Joe the--Joe the Grizzly Bear.
[chuckles]
Can I just get a, um,
just a tad more bass?
When is your--it's your birthday
in Brighton, right?
Uh-hmm.
I'm coming for that.
Are you coming?
-You coming?
-Yeah. Yeah.
[instrumental music playing]
-Everything under control over there?
-Yeah.
-Cool.
-Good sound check. They did a little,
kind of, jam thing at the end.
-I was like, "Yes!"
-Wonderful.
-Did you use--
-Yes.
---all of them?
-Yeah.
-Wonderful.
-[laughter]
Okay.
I've been here since 2:00.
-I was the first here.
-[laughter]
I was here, like, half an hour waiting.
I tagged along at like
half four something like that.
-We've been here since half two, three.
-What time is it now?
-Yeah.
-I cried--I cried twice at Blush now.
[laughter]
[woman] Third time tonight.
[Estelle] How old are you? Are you
-[man] I'm 16.
-[woman] Seventeen.
-Seventeen.
-[Estelle] You're 16?
-Yeah.
-I'm 14.
[laughter]
You're 14?
[indistinct chatter]
-Here you go.
-Cheers.
-Thank you.
-Thank you.
-Thank you.
-[man] Bye. Bye.
[man] Have fun.
Have fun? God.
[Estelle humming]
Don't you want to take time
And get to love me?
-It's like a
-[Maddy] Wait. What's the--what's--
what are the lyrics?
Don't you want to take time
and get to love me?
How is it?
Don't you want to take time
And get to love me?
[Estelle] Don't you want to take time
And get to love me?
[Maddy chuckles]
[Estelle] We could build
A perfect world
-I got tricks I really wanna show you
-Show you
[both] I could be the perfect girl
I could only love you more
-I could only love you more
-[Estelle laughs]
[vocalizing]
[laughs]
Smashed it.
[drum beating]
["Freazy" playing]
[Ellie] I will meet you
Where the grass is greener
Hands on the clock, no
I ain't watchin' them either
Did you really wanna with Alice?
Did you really wanna with the wolf?
You can hate us all you want
But it don't mean nothing at all
You can join us
If you think you're wild
You can join us
If you're a feral child
Our love is cool
Did you really wanna with Alice?
Did you really wanna with the wolf?
You can hate us all you want
But it don't mean nothing at all
You can join us
If you think you're wild
You can join us
If you're a feral child
Our love is cool
Oh, yeah
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] Thank you.
[dramatic music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
So, are you gonna see
your mum while you're here?
[Joe] I don't know.
Maybe, if I can face her.
That's the River Clyde comin' up.
[Estelle] Oh, wow.
That bridge there,
we call it the Squinty Bridge.
[Estelle] Why is it called
the Squinty Bridge?
Because it's squinty.
[knocks on door]
[man] Come in.
-Hi, there.
-[man] How you doin'?
Um, do you know where
the towels are for Wolf Alice?
What's happening?
I thought I'd find you here.
I'm not--I'm not hiding, am I?
Anne! Anne!
Can we have two
of your lovely glasses of wine?
-[Joe] Just one glass.
-[Shirley] Wait. No.
He's thin.
This is my boy, my baby boy.
Uh-hmm.
How you doin'?
Um, same as ever.
Same as ever.
I always remember my mum
when I was a kid, like, small kid.
-Yeah.
-She went to York.
And my mum,
it was like the first time I remember
-she must've gone away or something.
-Yeah.
And I--in my head,
I didn't know though what York was,
so I just assumed it was New York.
-[chuckles]
-And I remember showing up,
-which even that--
-When my mom was a kid--
--seems really stupid
that my mum's in New--
-She went
-[chuckles]
I was like, "My mum is in New York.
My mum goes to New York all the time."
[laughter]
I remember it was like years
later when I realised,
like, oh, it was probably York.
Isn't it something?
[Shirley] When are you
gonna come visit me at my house?
Do you want me to come and visit you?
[Shirley] I have to piss.
[indistinct chatter]
Where's this footie?
I don't know.
-[man] Ben?
-[Ben] What was that?
We're gonna make a foray onto the stage.
Do you need to go and translate for him?
Yeah, come on you, kid.
All right, lads. How's it going?
-All set.
-All good?
Legendary we're gonna have some
background on stage, if possible?
[indistinct chatter]
[man] She'll give me money.
[man] Come on, I'm sure
we could come to an arrangement.
-Hey.
-[laughter]
[indistinct chatter]
I thought you were [indistinct]
fucking Elton John.
[man] And that production case needs
to go across to the other side as well,
stay outside of--in fact, no--
that can go up on stage, that trunk.
That one, yeah.
Thank you very much.
I think fun and games.
Far too much in the way of fun and games.
Good one.
-[indistinct chattering]
-[laughing]
-That was raw.
-[laughs]
[acoustic guitar playing]
[feet stomping]
[all] Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
-[man] Oh, that string.
-[all] Hey, hey
-Hey, hey, hey
-[clapping]
[man] Oh
[man] Now, walking down a tight rope
[laughing]
[man] Slammin' each other
[laughing]
Get me away
[laughing]
It's a long way
It's a long way to the top
If you wanna rock and roll
Very good.
[man] I remember when
[indistinct]
[electric guitar playing]
[rock music playing]
[crowd indistinct chattering]
[rock music playing]
[Estelle] So, do you all--
do you all know each other?
-[all] Yeah.
-[Estelle] Yeah?
I saw them supporting the 1975
which is my fave band at the time
-but now I like Wolf Alice even more.
-[crowd laughs]
[crowd cheering and applauding]
[rock music playing]
[crowd cheering and applauding]
-[engine revving]
-[crowd indistinct chattering]
-[man 1] What are we rushing?
-[man 2] Around there.
[man 1] Oh, come on, we're not rushing.
Hey, Joe, can I borrow 50 quid?
I'll give it back tomorrow.
[Joe] I don't have any cash in my account.
Oh, what's wrong with you?
Joe is a cheeky legend.
-To Joe!
-[laughing]
[Joe] Stop looking at me.
What have you got in your hair?
Lots of [indistinct].
[all] Yay!
-[Joe] What's wrong with you?
-[indistinct chattering]
[all] Joe is a cheeky legend
Joe is a cheeky legend
Joe is a fucking legend
Joe is a fucking legend
Joe is a fucking legend
Joe is a fucking legend
Joe is a fucking legend
Joe is a fucking legend
["Heavenward" playing]
[Ellie] So cruelly beyond
All our power
Go Heavenward
Like all Earth angels should
Go Heavenward
Like all Earth angels should
I'm gonna celebrate you forever
[man 1] Owen? Owen?
You got a spare USB cable
we can borrow for a while?
[Joe] You enjoyed enjoy yourself
last night?
[Estelle] Yeah.
Have you actually slept,
that's the question?
I've not really slept.
[machine whirring]
I mean, the Glasgow crowd
are by far the best,
-you know what I'm saying?
-[man 2 laughs]
Now, that's a very leading question.
If you were a classical gig,
you wouldn't want a Glasgow crowd jumping
around like a bunch of lunatics,
-now would you?
-I wouldn't know,
-a little bit of bark.
-A bit of bark?
[Estelle] Hmm.
Are you not exhausted?
I don't know, I woke up at 2:30.
-[Estelle] Oh, yeah.
-I slept for, like
-Ten hours.
-[Estelle] Eight?
Ten hours?
How do you find sleeping
when the bus is moving?
-I like it. I feel like it's--
-[Estelle] I like the movement.
---comforting or something like that.
-[Estelle] Yeah.
[man 1] I've actually got
the full ten foot.
-[man 2] Really?
-[man 1] I have.
[man 2] Yay!
[Estelle] If you're on tour
for such a long amount of time,
-you must lose like--
-Lose friends?
[Estelle] Lose friends?
No. No, no, not lose friends,
but just lose cottons
-really hard time to--
-Yeah. Yeah.
You have to nurture friendships,
don't you?
When you're on tour all the time,
it's way harder.
[man 1] If you carry on--
if you carry on doing what you're doing.
I'm gonna revoke drum key privileges.
[man 2] Yeah. You do not know,
where I wanna hide this drum key.
I wish I know what it'd be like
to be in a band just girls
-I think it'd be--
-[Estelle] It's so fun and so--
When I see an all-girl bands,
I feel like they have--
-So much fun.
---so much fun.
[Estelle] But also there's a lot of drama.
-No, 'cause their friends.
-I feel like quite a lot of girl bands
-are like sisters or family.
-[Estelle] Uh-hmm.
-Well, like, HAIM or something?
-[Estelle] Like HAIM or like The Staves
-or like--
-Yeah.
The Corrs?
[laughs]
What are you looking for?
-Nothing.
-They're not here.
[electric guitar playing]
[man 1] How's checking going?
[man 2] Yeah, it's going.
[acoustic guitar playing]
[Estelle] How's the,
uh, pitches coming along, Joel?
Sick, I think-- hopefully,
-I'll send the Dropbox link to Ellie.
-[Estelle] Okay.
-I'll just chat to her about it.
-[Estelle] Nice.
Send the Dropbox link to the label
and that
just get some feedback from them
and just let them know
that I'm actually doing something.
[rock music playing]
[man] Yeah, and I'm covered in blood
But at least I'm having fun
I'm having a lot
Just drove here.
-It's quite a long drive isn't it?
-[Estelle] Is it? When did you leave?
-[man 1] 10:00.
-[man 2] 12:00.
-[man 1] 10:00.
-[Estelle] 10:00.
I can't--I can't remember even getting
to the van this morning,
-I'm still wasted.
-[laughing]
I think I've got a couple
of things lined-up.
Just earn a bit of money between
-like, touring and that.
-[man] Yeah, yeah.
But, yeah,
it'll work itself out.
-Yeah. It always pans out, man.
-Yeah.
I'll never see you from the other way
Hey
[crowd cheering]
I'm knackered. Oh, shit,
we should go pack up.
Ellie's gonna kill us.
When have we ever did
what we said we're gonna.
Always starts that one, yeah.
It's not about that, son.
Oh, my days!
["Bros" playing]
[Ellie] Oh
Jump that 43
Are you wild like me
Raised by wolves and other beasts
I tell you all the time
I'm not mad
You tell me all the time
I got plans
-[moaning]
-[crowd cheering]
[woman] Me and you, me and you
Me and you
We could do better
I'm quite sure
Me and you, me and you
Me and you
We could do better
I'm quite sure
Me, me, me, me, me and you
Me, me, me, me, me and you
[crowd cheering and applauding]
-[man] That's a weird doll.
-[woman] This is pretty scary.
What is this?
I'm scared of it.
[man] That's me in a past life.
-["She" playing]
-Oh, ah
Oh, ah
I had a lover, I had a friend
But don't deliver nothing for them
You're having fevers or bad dreams
I'm having neither
Just live and breathe
I had a lover, I had a friend
But I don't deliver nothing for them
You're having fevers or bad dreams
I'm having neither
Just live and breathe
[rock music playing]
It's so easy to rebel
[singer] She knows, she knows
And then celebrate myself
[singer] She knows, she knows
I wish I was like you
[singer] She knows, she knows
[Ellie] I wish I was like you
[singer] She knows, she knows
I wish I was you
She knows
[cheering and applauding]
[Ellie] Thank you.
Thank you so much.
It's the first time we've been in Europe.
You guys made us feel at home.
[crowd] [cheering] Love it. Love it!
Love it. Love it!
Love it. Love it.
Love it. Love it.
Love it. Love it.
Love it. Love it.
Love it. Love it. Love it.
[crowd cheering and applauding]
So just at the change of pitch,
I ran out onto the giant speaker stack
and I just stood up there.
And the security guard was looking at me.
I looked down.
And then I looked over to the crowd.
And not joking, this guy just went bam.
[Ellie] I thought you were looking when--
[Theo] Yeah. I was still pointing
at the security guy.
He literally just watched him punch
this guy straight in the back of the head.
[groans]
[Joel] And that's that.
That's what I came in to do.
That one hour. [chuckles]
And it's over.
[indistinct chatter]
I feel peace.
I hope to see you again soon.
[indistinct chatter]
[Ellie] I really liked that, you know?
[Paul] Oh, I hate it.
[Ellie] It was the absolute [indistinct]
[man] Such a bad boy house
compared to like
-Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.
-Yeah.
Oh, imagine if you get in Hufflepuff.
If you also like, you can be a Slytherin.
[man] Yeah, but I'll obviously be in
Hufflepuff but want to be in Slytherin.
Oh. What is Hufflepuff?
I think I got my first kiss by pretending
to be Draco Malfoy.
-[laughing]
-I'm not joking.
[Ellie] Well, someone at our show
once in Seattle did a shit in the venue.
[Theo] Did anyone see the girl
who got thrown up on in York?
She literally walked in
and then some lad just went
[retches]
People had been tweeting me
about it and shit.
[guitar music playing]
[Joff] It's quite nice around here.
Is there a beach here?
-[Ellie] Yeah.
-[indistinct chattering]
[Joff] Trust me, Daddy
It's always been my dream
to come to Folkestone.
-I mean, I used to hear about--
-[man] Yeah. Yeah.
--all the theatre, sort of the stuff--
-Yeah, yeah.
--that goes on in Folkestone.
-[man] Right. Like you might--
Are you gonna go in, do you think?
-What? In the sea?
-Yeah.
No. [laughs]
-I never dreamed--
-Yeah, yeah. Well
I never dreamed I'd be here.
Good things are done better
when it's just the two of us.
I think we got things start up bad
when it's just one of us, mate.
Just the one of us. I know. Just the one--
But you are helpful. You are helpful.
So--yeah. Just you on your own.
-[man] Parkour.
-[Ellie] So you might have time to take--
[Theo] Do you like to take a picture
of my pinecone, John?
[Ellie] --one picture on the beach?
[laughs]
-And then we have to go back.
-[Estelle] Oh, definitely here.
[Theo] John. Just a quick question.
-Do you want a picture of my cock?
-[laughing]
[John] Obviously the answer is yes.
I wanna get a picture of you [indistinct]
-[Ellie screams]
-[Theo screams]
[Paul] What happened?
-[Ellie] Someone just threw a rock at me.
-Did someone just throw something?
[Paul] A rock?
[Ellie] Ow. That actually hurt.
That could have hit my head.
[drums playing]
-[man] Theo.
-[Theo] What?
-[man] Can you come back here, please?
-[Theo] Yeah.
[man] Break.
I wanna do a photoshoot on them rocks.
-[man] Ready?
-[Theo] Uh-hmm.
Test. Test. [indistinct]
[drum plays]
[Joff] Do you--I think we should go
for a swim.
[Ellie] No. No.
It's too cold. It's freezing.
No. No. Joff.
Joff, stop it.
-[Joff] Yeah.
-[Ellie] Joff. I'm gonna kill you, Joff.
-[Joff] No, you're not. [grunts]
-[Ellie laughs]
-[Joff] Oh, shoot. It's got--
-[Ellie] Yes, it is.
[Joff] Fuck. Oh, my God.
It's so cold.
Where do you live in London?
-Peckham.
-Hmm.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Yup. Two brothers.
And my mom is a foster carer
so we have foster siblings.
My babies.
We get them from like a day old
and we look after them.
The first one we had,
we had her for 15 months.
I literally had taught her how to walk,
everything.
And she was adopted.
And I remember actually when she went.
It was just-- my heart broke,
and like it was gut-wrenching,
and a horrible--such a horrible feeling.
I've never experienced it
before in my life.
It was just--
God, I missed her so much.
[indistinct chattering]
[Joff] Cheers. How's everybody doin'?
[crowd cheering]
[Joff] it's nice to be here.
It's our first time here.
[Joel] Legends.
A couple legends about.
[Theo] It's all good.
[makes sound]
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] No.
-Someone chucked a drink at me, fair play.
-[Ellie] Oh, there is no badge.
-Did they? It happens, man.
-Folkestone, innit?
[man] I haven't talked to--
["Silk" playing]
Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love that is a saviour
But that ain't no love of mine
My love, it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps
She hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white
Run, run away
Run, run, run away
Got to stay cool, you hot, hot head
Count to a thousand
Before you sleep in bed
Read the news, pass the time
Drink the juice, feeling fine
Got to stay cool, you hot, hot head
Count to a thousand
Before you sleep in bed
Read the news, pass the time
Drink the juice, feeling fine
"At least you're not boring."
No one ever wants to feel
You're this sad, ooh
Ooh
Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love that is a saviour
But that ain't no love of mine
My love it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps
She hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white
Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love that is a saviour
But that ain't no love of mine
My love, it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps
She hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white
[cheers and applause]
["Giant Peach" playing]
Our dark
And pretty town
Our dark and pretty town
Our dark and handsome town
Our dark and pretty town
My dark and pretty town
["Giant Peach" playing]
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] Thank you.
[Joff] Thank you so much
for coming to watch us play.
[Joel] Ain't lisping, I'm like,
"God, it ain't even busy."
[Theo] The crowd were really sick.
-Yeah. I know. Weren't they so good?
-[Theo] Yeah.
That mosh that started up at the end
-was huge.
-[Theo] Yeah.
[indistinct chatter]
That, that,
that can all go up,
two on top of there.
Go.
[indistinct chatter]
-Is that--is that your backdrop?
-This one, yes.
It's been moved though.
All that is moved.
[indistinct chatter]
[woman] Thank you.
[jolly music playing]
[announcer] Thank you.
Thank you for riding with us today.
[screams] Go [indistinct]
Yeah. [laughs]
We're trying to get a football in here
-and you're fucking paddling.
-[man laughs]
Put your fucking shoes on
and get on the pitch.
Iggy, Go.
Oh, Iggy's a real live wire
on the ball, ain't he?
There you go.
Indie band nightmare.
Will he swim deep?
More like bloody won't swim deep.
[laughs]
[guitar plays]
Who's that looking back
Blinking her eyes at me?
Is she wondering where she's gonna be
In 15 years?
Who's that trying on
A brand-new dress tonight?
If she wants to keep homecoming boys
Till she sees the light
Is there something that she doesn't know
And won't find out?
For a moment
It seems there's nothing to care about
Let your head down
Just blend in with the crowd
-The houselights are very [indistinct]
-The houselights--
the houselights are great.
-You've got the house lights?
-Yeah, they're great.
-They're great.
-I wondered what was in there.
[laughter]
-["The Wonderwhy" playing]
-[Ellie] Don't leave me here
Don't leave me here
[Ellie] When I'm not sold
When I'm not sold
[Ellie] Don't leave me here
Don't leave me here
[Ellie] When I'm not sold
When I'm not sold
Don't leave me here
Don't leave me here
[Ellie] When I'm not sold
Don't leave me here
Leave me thinking for myself
When I can't remember
The days of the week
The weeks of the month
And the months of the year
Where do we go?
Go from here?
Sit writing lists
And just wait for things to appear?
[upbeat music playing]
[cheers and applause]
[Joff] Thank you very much.
Thank you to Bloody Knees
and to Swim Deep.
And happy birthday, James from Swim Deep.
He's my oldest and most naughty friend
I've ever had.
[Joff] Who wants to sing happy birthday
to James?
[crowd cheering]
He's here, do you think?
[Joff] I think he's left.
He's not interested in the show so far.
[Joel] [indistinct]
[crowd] Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
[Joel] Yeah.
-It's my birthday.
-Woo!
[singer] I tell myself
I don't want nobody else
To ever love me
You are my guiding star
My shining light, I love you, baby
But that day you leave and gone
I know that girls they're going crazy
I know the girls love some
All of them run
[singer] Go Heavenward
Like all Earth angels should
I'm gonna celebrate you forever
[indistinct chatter]
[singer]
I'm gonna celebrate you forever
Hey [indistinct]
Yes.
Backstage area.
Past few backstages has been quite dark.
I don't really like using flash too much.
More backstagey ones.
[indistinct]
-Hey, man.
-All right, man.
The pits that have opened up for them,
which is amazing.
The crowd's been going
wild for them, which is sick.
[knocks on door]
[man] Yes?
-Hi, guys.
-[man] Hello.
-Hit me.
-Is Ellie in the shower?
Yeah. Yes.
-She's post-shower.
-[Estelle] Post-shower?
-She's post-shower
-[Estelle] Okay.
-but I think she's still pre-clothed.
[Estelle] So you know you got sound check
at three, right?
And then at five,
you got Demon Magazine with Molly.
-And then University Radio.
-Demon Magazine?
[Estelle] And then 5:45,
we're going to the BBC
to do a radio session acoustic stuff,
so bring your guitar.
-Cool.
-[Estelle] And then-- and then you're fine
and then you're all done until your show.
[Theo] That's quite a bit of press today.
-Exactly.
-One leg is all you need.
[indistinct] I hate myself for this
but you don't go to hear a show.
You go to see a show.
You don't go home humming the lights.
If you can't get the fucking band in,
then all this bullshit,
you won't have anything
to point it out, so.
It's not bullshit. It's art.
It'll be Johnny--it'll be Johnny
asking you.
-Is that what it is?
-Yeah.
Define art.
[guitar plays]
What do you think?
[Joel] Yeah.
[Theo] Back at it again.
-Back at it again with the cut file.
-[Theo laughs]
[continues playing guitar]
-Did a heely.
-Did a heely. [chuckles]
[man] so you've been looking
to spring bursting into bloom.
Some sad news about the health
of Nottinghamshire's ash trees.
The county council says 95% of them
could have to be felled
because of ash dieback disease.
[Ellie] I don't think, too. Yeah.
Let's go.
You should--you should have opened it.
[Estelle] Hiya.
We're just at the BBC.
Are you on--are you here yet or
[man] [indistinct] this morning.
Yes. We're in the building.
We're in the lobby.
[man] Just wait in the lobby.
Okay. Fabulous. Thanks.
[man] And then is it Secretly--
[Joff] Secretly Canadian, yeah.
Let's get some better headphones there
but not gonna be too great.
-[Joel] You having a little nap?
-[Ellie] Yeah.
I'm good to go whenever you are.
So I'll release the pause button
whenever you say you--you're ready.
["Fluffy" playing]
in this dead-out town?
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
So I'm searching for cheap thrills
Some way and somehow
Oh
Sixteen
-So sweet
-So sweet
Oh
Sixteen
So sweet
So sweet
Send me a ride
And make it bright and early.
What makes you smile
Just makes me feel funny
So who's gonna love me here
And where's all the money?
What's there to do?
I've got nothing in this dead-out town
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
So I'm searching for cheap thrills
The way I know how
Oh
Sixteen
-So sweet
-So sweet
Oh
Sixteen
-So sweet
-So sweet
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Oh, I can't believe I live here now
Oh, I can't believe
Sounds amazing.
Sounds so stunning.
Okay.
Thank you so much for being here.
I really appreciate you coming back
'cause I know how hectic this tour is
for you,
so I'm massively grateful.
-We're going to hear another track now.
-Yeah.
[man] And it's--which is
one of my favourites of yours actually.
Would you just do a little bit
of background
as you talk us into this one, please?
Yeah. This is an acoustic version
of our song "Bros."
Don't wanna say anything about it?
-Oh, sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
-[man] No, it's fine.
I'm really not on the ball today.
-[man] No. You're doing fine.
-[chuckles]
-It's--wait. What--
-No.
[laughter]
[man] You don't have to.
[indistinct chatter]
Oh, my God. What the fuck?
-[chuckles]
-What the fuck? Where have you been?
I don't know.
I got--I got left in Brighton
and then I just had to like,
well, I got
I'd want to. I want to.
[crowd cheering]
["Storms" playing]
[Ellie] on this violet night
I was still here
Dead in your life
Time doesn't slow
The world won't lend hands
What you've got to show
And who are your friends
Your friends, your friends
Your friends
Your friends, your friends
Your friends
Your friends, your friend
Your friends
Your friends, your friends,
Your friends
Your friends, your friends
Your friends
Your friends, your friends
[instrumental music playing]
Hey!
Hey!
Boo!
Hey!
[cheers and applause]
You guys are where we had
our first mosh pit
about three years ago,
and you guys are--
you're always fucking great.
["Fluffy" playing]
Oh, sixteen, so sweet
Oh, sixteen, so sweet
[rock music playing]
-[crowd chatting]
-One more time.
We got three.
One more time. One more time.
-No more song.
-And we got three.
We're going home.
[man] [indistinct] thank you, mate.
One more chord. One more chord.
[Joff] Wait. You're going
for a curry after this?
[rock music playing]
[cheers and applause]
[indistinct chatter]
[mellow music playing]
Yeah, I came over to say
something to someone
and then I thought I'd put some socks on.
-We got backwards just a little.
-Can you not walk this way?
-No. He's not going--
-Oh, no reasons. Answer's no.
No. I'm not sending them for you.
Actually, it comes around through there.
You got colour on your teeth.
That can't be the lyric.
It's not.
It's have you got colour in your cheeks.
-[Ellie] [laughs]
-And I just heard you say that.
I was like, "Why?
You've got colour in your teeth?"
[laughs]
[woman] Who do you live with?
My mom and my sister and a lodger.
I live in the living room which is brass.
But the good thing is--
[woman] [chuckles]
[rock music playing]
[cheers and applause]
[man] [indistinct]
[indistinct chatter]
Good gig, yeah?
Yeah. I really liked it.
-Why did that person throw--
-I got followed again.
-Yeah. I know. I saw it.
-I like--I like that.
I like it. [laughs]
["You're a Germ" playing]
[Ellie] One! Two! Three!
Four! Five! Six! Seven!
-You ain't going to heaven
-Eyes wild, eyes wide
[Ellie]
'Cause I'm dragging you down to hell
Eyes wild, eyes wide
[Ellie] Where's mum and dad
So you can tell them?
-Eyes wild, eyes wide
-[Ellie] You're a dodgy fucker as well
Eyes wild, eyes wide
[Ellie] You ain't going to heaven
'Cause I'm dragging' you down to hell
Where's mum and dad
So you can tell them?
You're a dodgy fucker as well
Yes, you are!
Woo!
[cheers and applause]
["Blush" playing]
Figured out I'm good
Turn me down like I knew I should
Punch drunk, dumb struck,
Pot luck happy, happy
But don't chicken out, it's all good
You're allowed to be what you could
Punch drunk, dumb struck,
Pot luck happy, happy
Punch drunk, dumb struck,
Pot luck happy, happy
Punch drunk, dumb struck,
Pot luck happy, happy
[Ellie] Figured out I'm good
Turn me down like I knew I should
Happy now
Don't chicken out, it's all good
You're allowed to be what you could
[rock music playing]
Curse the things
That made me sad for so long
Yeah, It hurts to think
That they can still go on
I'm happy now
Are you happy now?
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] Thank you so much
for having us here.
[cheers and applause]
[indistinct chatter]
My elbow is absolutely killing me.
-Oh, fuck.
-My elbow [indistinct]
[indistinct chatter]
[guitar playing]
There is no bus until 3:00.
Where do you have to get back to?
Swindon and Bristol.
Oh, man.
Please, can you just have
an after-party?
-Oh, I wish.
-Oh, please?
You caught us in a bad day
because we're leaving--
-Aw.
---to go back to London tonight.
[guitar playing]
[woman] Peter! Oh.
[guitar playing continues]
Are you going straight
to America from London?
No. I'm gonna go back to Glasgow.
Just for a day.
Catch up on my wash.
Owen, what are you doing?
[Owen] Playing a fishing game.
You're not a 12-year-old.
[mellow music playing]
[man] Well then.
-[woman] Okay.
-[chuckling]
-[man] My arse in your face.
-Arse in face.
That's not quite what I wanna see
first thing in the morning.
Morning, James.
Hey, Joe. You okay?
[Joe] I'm all right. How are you?
Very good. Very good.
All right. It's the Weekend Warrior.
[man] Yeah.
[indistinct chatter]
What fucking time do you call this?
-How are you?
-You look like you've been dragged
-through a hedge backwards as well.
-[indistinct]
You gotta make yourself presentable.
I mean, look at--look at Oddie.
Oddie is a standard,
like the level of presentation
that we require.
Oddie always looks that slick.
[Ellie] I feel the ending
[indistinct] hold down, oh
We're still [groans]
[man] Slow down [indistinct]
-Yeah. We're good.
-[man] Yeah.
-It's gonna be all right right then.
-It's good.
Yeah. Absolutely.
[man] All right.
He's having a special [indistinct]
[indistinct]
What?
Did he just go out?
[Ellie] Do you want us to do it
without chords [indistinct]
Um, no.
There's no point doing it without Theo.
[Ellie] Okay.
Well, let's just have a break
and see how Theo's feeling
and then, uh
What are you doing tonight?
[coughs] I don't know.
I can come to your place, if you want.
Or not. You think that's weird?
I mean, maybe.
It might be a bit weird
-if I'm bringing back.
-Yeah, a bit weird? Yeah.
I actually think that too.
That is weird. That is weird.
-Sorry.
-No, no, no. I think I agree.
Doors, what time are doors?
Uh-hmm. I don't know. What time.
May be 7:00, 8:00.
The doors' 7:00 or 6:30.
Do we know what time doors are, anybody?
-[man] He was vomiting on the sound check.
-[man] Oh, really?
-[man] Yeah.
-[man] Vomited on his base guitar.
-[makes sound]
-Yeah.
I feel like he's the one most rattled by--
would be most rattled by it, you know.
[man] It's always--
it's always bassist who get injured.
Remember when Larry had to play bass
'cause Kaff fucked his hand up
-at Glastonbury?
-[man] Yeah.
Kaff sat on his hand at Glastonbury.
I mean--I mean, It was never the same.
-You sat on your hand?
-[Ellie] Wait. How does that work?
[indistinct] I think.
-[man] Oh, right. Yeah.
-[man] You couldn't feel it. Like--
-I don't even know. I--
-[Ellie] Why?
-[indistinct] called it.
-We call it The Claw.
[man] And then if you take
a screenshot of that, on pages,
then I can tweet the photo like that.
And then after that,
I'll tweet the photo on my own.
[man] The last one
-How you doin', Joff?
-[Joff] Yeah.
Cool. We need to do this
for the, uh, confetti people as well.
-[man] Ready?
-[man] Is that the picture you want
-put out?
-They recognize it's you
and they see your arm very well.
I'm worried my mom [indistinct]
'cause she's dropping mom's sister off.
Yeah.
-[woman] Hi.
-Hey. You--
no, I'm just-- I've started throwing up
through soundcheck really badly.
I've just been-- Yeah.
What do you want to do? I can get a cab?
-Oh, hey, guys.
-[woman] Without really doing it.
-[man] Hiya.
-[Estelle] Hello.
-[man] Yeah, good. How are you?
-[woman] You good, yeah?
Yeah. Reality's hitting home a bit, man.
-[man] Yeah.
-[man] This isn't my life.
It is all fallacies
but basically like they do it fulltime
and have holiday,
wherein we do it on--
-we do it on--[indistinct]
-[Estelle] When you're on holiday.
So like we do it in like the six-week
holidays and Easter.
If it's Easter, then we'll do a big one
at festivals in the summer.
Obviously, we don't really
play any festivals, so
[chuckling]
[indistinct chatter]
["Giant Peach" playing]
[Ellie]
I got change in a pocket somewhere
Got my letter in the box
Tired of waiting
For the bus to nowhere
And tired of chasing the stone fox
I don't tell lies no more,
Ya know
-[Estelle] Rest up.
-See you later.
[Estelle] See you.
[indistinct chatter]
[rock music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[rock music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[guitar music playing]
What's up? All right?
Um, well, Ellie will do that twice
and then I come in with the guitar.
[mellow music playing]
[Joel] Okay. So basically like--
so really like the noise.
-[guitar strums]
-Yeah. Boom, boom, boom,
boom, boom, boom, boom,
boom, boom, boom, boom
[indistinct chatter]
[all] Cheeky legend,
I'm a cheeky legend
I'm a cheeky legend,
I'm a cheeky legend
I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
I'm a cheeky legend,
I'm a cheeky legend
I'm a cheeky legend,
I'm a cheeky legend
I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
I'm a cheeky legend,
I'm a cheeky legend
-Stand up.
-I'm a cheeky legend
Oh, I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
I'm a fucking legend,
I'm a fucking legend
[cheers and applause]
-[man 1] You don't say.
-[man 2] Fucking legends.
Oh, I'm covered in beer.
-[man] I'm covered in beer, I see.
-[woman] Beer on the mirror.
[man] And I'm covered in beer
[rock music playing]
Yeah, I'm covered in blood
But at least I'm having fun,
I'm having
Yeah, I'm covered in blood
But at least I'm having fun,
I'm having
[cheers and applause]
Thank you all so much.
Cheers for coming down early
and watching us, we're Bloody Knees.
Enjoy Swim Deep.
Enjoy Wolf Alice.
We got one more song.
Enjoy the rest of your night.
Thank you.
Why are you all so nervous?
Can we go on yet or what?
[cheers and applause]
[man] Wolf Alice.
[cheers and applause]
["King City" playing]
I wanna be everything that I'm not
I wanna be rich, I wanna show off
Just a desperado with a sour twist
It will all come sweet on your lips
'Cause I'm in love so old
Put your flowers down, it's too cold
Fuck your romance,
I wanna pretend
That Jenny Lee Lindberg
Is my girlfriend
With the sun on my back
It's a nice day
[solo guitar music playing]
-Well
-[Ellie] Good luck.
-[Joff] Smash it.
-[Joel] Good luck.
[Theo] Good luck.
Here we are, the new Wolf Alice.
Remember John, you can walk away
from this unscathed.
Yeah. Right.
[indistinct chatter]
-Ready?
-Yeah.
[man] All right. Let's go.
[cheers and applause]
[rock music playing]
Hello, London!
[cheers and applause]
[Ellie] Okay. So some of you might
not know but our little Theo,
who plays the bass,
he's very poorly today.
He's got a swollen elbow,
the size of a small child's head.
So we've got the lovely Joff
to play with us today.
Let's see your elbows in the air for Theo.
That's right okay.
["Lisbon" playing]
You're gonna look at me twice,
That's eventual
You're there when you're not
Cause I'm smoking your menthols
Smoking your menthols
Wearing all your clothes again
They're wearing thin
But it's one way to be together
Be together
Swallow the fear
My stone cold fox
My arms are here
I've been ready for so long
And I would
Lick your wounds and care
[rock music playing]
[vocalizing]
[cheers and applause]
["Moaning Lisa Smile" playing]
She needs a lover
To escape her father and mother
She hopes for some
Other way out of the hole
She's over achieving
Chasing her dreams
And coming down slowly
Yeah, it's out of control
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
Scrap the blues
If the blues don't work
Flash your teeth
Though the inside hurts
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
Scrap the blues
If the blues don't work
Doesn't make you feel better,
Just makes others feel worse
All in the books
And all in her blood
And nowhere to run
'Cause it's out of control
You wait for something
To undo these feelings
Waiting and waiting
But it's out of control
Boo!
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
Scrap the blues
If the blues don't work
Flash your teeth
Though the inside hurts
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
Scrap the blues
If the blues don't work
Doesn't make you feel better,
Just makes others feel worse
[rock music playing]
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
A-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahh
It never is enough
No, it never is enough
It never is enough
No, it never is enough
[cheers and applause]
["Giant Peach" playing]
[Ellie] Like fear, it's all you know
Our dark and pretty town
Our dark and pretty town
Our dark and handsome town
Our dark and pretty town
My dark and pretty town
[rock music playing]
[cheers and applause]
Thank you so much, London.
[man] Oh, very happy with that.
[indistinct chatter]
Hello.
[Ellie] Hello. How are you?
[indistinct chatter]
[Joel singing indistinctly]
He was good, he was good
Yeah, he put me in the mood
Now here's his girlfriend,
She is smiling
Down there good, down there good
They're gonna go home
For some kisses
Down there good
Down there good
Yeah, yeah, yeah
-[Joel] Aw.
-[man] Oh!
[Joel] I'm lonely, I'm so lonely
Fuck this man, I'm so lonely
[crowd chattering]
[indistinct chatter]
[man] Come and chat though.
This is my old man.
Oh, really?
Johnny does sound right.
Johnny was the tour manager and did sound.
We almost killed last night.
[indistinct chatter]
-Bye, darling.
-Goodnight, Mom.
See you, Bob.
Maybe I'll see you tomorrow.
[indistinct chatter]
[man 1] Did Theo watch?
[man 2] No, Theo--
Theo's in the hospital.
Theo's staying overnight on a drip.
[indistinct chatter]
[man] [indistinct]
[woman] Oh, shush.
I'm like fucking like Mick Jagger
[indistinct]
He's public property. So sorry.
-Yup?
-Um, hello.

Ahh
Don't you want
Take time and get to love me?
[woman] Getting images in.
[Ellie] We could build
A perfect world
-[woman] Yeah.
-[man] [indistinct]
-Hi, guys.
-Hey.
-How are you?
-Hello. I'm really good.
-Good to see you.
-Oh, lovely to see you.
-How was it?
-Hello.
Yeah, it was great. It was great.
-Yeah, it was amazing.
-When did you get back?
Got back this Saturday.
[Ellie] And when we grow older
We'll still be friends
We'll still be lovers
And won't fear the end
The light won't flicker
And the light won't fade, believe me
And the world looks better
In the place we made believe
Hearts keep pumping
And there's one thing
That keeps me breathing
It's the mantra I sing
And the face I always see
And when we grow older
We'll still be friends
Ooh, I let your love tease me
Now I am your love's whore
Keep me hardly breathing
But I could only love you more
I could only love you more
I could only love you more
Ahh
[rock music playing]
