- How much?

How many times should I tell him?
I told you not to come to
the carnival at this time.
Come to our spot tomorrow evening.
I'm going to kill you.
Let's go.
Sravanthi sister!
- Can I see that?
- Hi, Subbu!
Subbu!
- How are you?
- I'm good.
- How are the wedding arrangements going?
- They are going well.
I'm glad.
- I see the bridal glow on her face.
- Yeah, true.
- How's the baby doing?
- Fine, Subbu.
- Did you think of a name?
- Whatever you suggest, Subbu.
Give us a name.
Umm... Let me think.
Namaste, President!
Namaste.
Hope you're well, sir.
How are you doing? Namaste.
How are you doing?
How are you doing?
- Fine, sir.
- Brother-in-law, namaskaram.
- Namaskaram.
- How's your business doing?
- It's doing well, sir.
- Is Goddess Jwalamma's Paradha ready?
- Yes, sir.
Subbu...
What else?
Subbu!
- Just a minute. Dad's calling.
- Okay, Subbu. You please go.
- Take care of your health, sister.
- Sure.
This is the Paradha that is to be
presented to the Goddess.
Hand it over to your Father-in-law.
Go.
Thank you, dear.
Bless me.
God bless you with a long life!
Dad, please don't yell.
Subbu, let's go ride the giant wheel.
- I'll see you later, dad.
- Okay, dear.
The carnival is going to begin.
- Join us quickly.
- Sure, sir.
Wow! The lighting is fabulous!
Let's go.
Woah! That's so high up!
I don't want to come. I'm freaking out.
Don't be scared.
You'll be fine. Let's go.
No way! I can't do it!
It's not that big of a deal.
How can I go alone?
- Suguna, I can't do it.
- It's okay. You'll be fine.
Trust me, it will be fun.
Oh, no!
Subbu, what are you
looking at? Hop in!
Don't be scared.
You'll be fine. Sit.
I'm right here. Don't be scared.
Hey, hey, hey! It's moving!
- Suguna...
- It's starting!
- Oh, no!
- Don't be scared!
The top view is so beautiful!
Hail, Jwalamma!
Hail, Jwalamma!
Hail, Jwalamma!
What's up, Chandramma?
Looks like you are having
a blast at the carnival.
Yes, uncle. The carnival
is so good this time.
Of course. Jwalamma's
carnival never disappoints.
It's a mega tribute to her chivalry.
A celebration to honor the custom
of our women wearing a Paradha.
Here's Jwalamma's story for you.
Long ago, there lived a
chivalrous warrior in our village.
Her name was Jwalambika.
One day, while she was teaching archery,
a snake appeared and
bit one of her students.
Despite being pregnant,
Jwalambika managed to
rush the kid to the hospital.
But, she got noticed by a bunch of
evil men, while riding back on a horse.
They told her that riding a
horse while pregnant isn't safe,
and offered to drop her
home on their bullock-cart.
Their intentions were
lustful and malicious.
They forced themselves on Jwalamma.
Jwalamma put up a valiant
fight, despite being pregnant.
But the evil men
decided to burn her alive.
Though her life was slipping away,
she burned them down along with her.
She then jumped into
the well in our village.
With that, Jwalamma's death has
become a curse on the whole village.
Women have conceived.
But they gave birth only to stillborns.
With no baby in sight,
no solution to sustain their existence,
the whole village frowned in silence.
The villages then built her a temple
and performed remedies to undo the curse.
A Paradha then came flying out of
nowhere and landed on her face.
Since that day, the Paradha is considered
to be the safety shield sent by Jwalamma.
And Women started wearing
Paradha as a mandate.
From the moment they hit puberty to
the moment they reach the death bed,
they show their faces only to their
brothers, fathers, sons, and husbands.
They took an oath in the name of Jwalamma that
they will show their face to no other man.
The luminous lamp in the
temple is a testament to their oath.
Exactly 9 months later,
a baby was born, piercing
through the silence in the village.
- It's a nice story, right?
- Yeah, it is.
Finally, the smiles
have lit up the village.
Ever since,
our villagers conduct the
Jwalamma carnival every year.
The fierce women
upholding the village custom...
burn the scarecrows of those
evil man in front of Jwalamma's idol.
They soothe her anger by doing so.
Oh! So that's the story
behind these colorful Paradhas.
Uncle, what if someone
removes the Paradha?
Jwalamma never forgives the women who
breaks the oath and takes off their Paradha.
She demands sacrifice.
She is soothed only when those women
jump to their death in the same well.
If they don't sacrifice themselves, there
would be no birth ever again in Padathi.
[mantras chanting]

Mom, I can't come see
you for the next 2 days.
I'm getting engaged.
Don't get upset that I
haven't come to see you.
Your husband has
become quite rigid lately.
He's doing unnecessary expenses.
I've noted down all the
wedding expenses in my book.
Suguna, read them out.
Subbu's wedding expenses.
Tent-20,000 rupees.
Orchestra-25,000 rupees.
Buffet for 500 people.
It says 1 lakh rupees!
There you go. They're
arranging a buffet for 500 people.
- My dad just doesn't get it.
- Actually, it's not a bad idea.
The more number of guests, the more gifts.
Umm... That reminds me.
Rajesh gifted it.
Look.
It's beautiful, isn't it?
Did your husband ever gift you anything?
Ah! Let's go, Subbu. We're getting late.
Alright then. I'll see you later.
Everything will go well, right, mom?
- I'm freaking out, Suguna.
- But why?
No one would have seen me, right?
There was nobody there. Stop
getting scared for everything.
You and your silly fears!
You and your family is invited to
my daughter's engagement tomorrow.
Sure. We'll be there.
- Coming back from college, Subbu?
- Yes, aunty.
- See you around, Subbu.
- See you.
- Dad...
- Yeah?
I want...
a Paradha with this design.
It's really beautiful, dear.
The last time I gave you a design,
you took forever to complete it.
It won't work this time.
I want it immediately.
- Okay?
- Okay, dear.
- Dad...
- Yes, dear.
Did you invite everyone to the engagement?
Yes, dear.
Didn't you forget anyone?
How could I?
What about...
Ratna aunty?
Oh, no!
I got so busy, I forgot to invite her.
I saw this coming.
Dad, I'm not getting engaged
without Ratna aunty, got it?
I'll call her and invite her right away.

It's lovely!
You don't have to yell anymore, okay?
That's such great news, brother.
Of course, I'm going to be
there to take care of everything.
- Okay, brother. Bye.
- [Kids] Mom!
- Coming!
- I also want to get a bob cut like him.
Girls shouldn't get a bob cut. It's ugly.
But many of my friends are
getting it. Can I do too, please?
Will you also jump off a cliff if they do?
- Give me the hair band.
- Ratna, dosas!
Coming, dear. Here, put this hair tie on.
Why are you laughing, huh?
- Hurry up!
- Coming, dear.
Subbalakshmi is getting engaged.
Who?
- Mom, shirt!
- Hold on.
My childhood friend; School friend.
Sujatha from Padathi.
- Mom!
- I'm coming, hold on!
How many times do I have to remind you?
I said I'm coming, right?
What's with you and your uniform?
Look, it's right here.
What's your problem?
Can't you help yourself?
Ugh! I have to spoon-feed you.
Subbalakshmi is her daughter.
Her dad called and invited me.
When is it happening?
Coming Friday.
- Mom, chutney!
- Coming. You hold this.
Let's skip this and attend the wedding.
If her mom were alive, she
would have invited me a week prior.
She gave Subbu's responsibility
to me before leaving us.
How could I not go now?
Think about it.
Hey!
Wait up. Did you sweep
the house yesterday?
Yes, ma'am.
All the trash is right there.
Do it properly. I'll be watching.
- Now go!
- Ratna, get me some water!
I'm coming, dear.
Here you go.
By the way,
how are you even
planning to go at this time?
I won't get a leave at work.
Moreover, their
exams are underway.
Let's attend the wedding.
It's okay. Let me go alone then.
Just help me board the bus.
We can all attend the wedding together.
Who will handle the things here if you go?
How can I manage these two monsters?
Dear, the thing is...
Subbu will be really upset if I don't go.
It's just a matter of 3 days.
Please let me go.
Please.
Okay, go. But come back soon.
You'll go crazy if you
stay there for too long.
Thank you so much!
Such a weird village and weird customs.
People are turning into idiots in the
name the name of customs and traditions.
Never mind. Not everyone
can be as decent as me.

It's okay. See if you like this design.
No way.
This one looks better.
Okay, I will apply this one.
We'll do this on the
back of the right hand.
We can do this on the back.
I have more books.
- Oh, really?
- Yeah.
Those designs are really nice, too.
But they're complex. I can't do it.
Stop! What are you doing?
You've hit puberty, you'll have to wear a
Paradha and put an end to these games.
But my Paradha ceremony
is happening tomorrow.
Let me play one last time today.
Please, mom. One last game.
If someone sees
you playing outside,
your Paradha ceremony
will be called off...
and you'll be sacrificed.
Come on, mom! Will the whole village
be cursed if I just play badminton?!
Shut up, Siri!
Do you think this is a joke?
I'm almost due.
Oh, no! I'm sorry, sister.
Never mind Badminton.
You'll deliver the baby in a month, right?
I'll play with the baby.
That's like a good girl.
Here.
Select whatever design
you like from this book.
I'll apply it on your feet.
I like this one, sister.
Then we'll go with this one.
Okay?
Welcome, Subbalakshmi!
I told you so many
times not to call me that.
What should I call you then?
I told you to stay away from
the carnival, as I'd be passing by.
I was so terrified that I might see you.
Usually, lovers wish
to see their loved one.
But you warn me that I shouldn't be seen.
This is unfair, Subbu.
Listen, this is the only place
we can meet, and that's final.
The day I put on the paradha, I promised not
to look at your face till we get married.
But you don't seem
to care about it at all.
Well, you're not coming to Gouramma's
house tomorrow, are you?
Considering my dad is
the President of the village,
it would look bad if I'm not there.
What if I see you there?
Oh, no! What if you see me?
Why are you so stubborn, Subbu?
Stubborn?
Gandharamma blindfolded
herself for the sake of Dritharashtra.
Do you call that stubbornness as well?
Alright, you won't see me at the Paradha
ceremony of Gouramma's daughter.
Happy?
I'll figure something out, okay?
What will you do?
I'll do whatever Subbu tells me to.
- Subbu...
- Hmm.
I can't believe we're
getting engaged in 3 days.
I know, right.
I am having a lot of dreams too.
What kind of dreams?
We have a small house in the town.
- You're a Bank Manager.
- Uh-huh?
- I'm a Government school teacher.
- Oh!
We also have a tiny
puppy in our house.
Small house sounds good.
The Bank Manager job also sounds good.
I don't even mind the Puppy.
But, why do you have to work as a teacher?
Why not?
Rajesh's wife doesn't have to do a job.
You don't even have
to step out of the house.
I'll treat you like a
princess in the castle.
Okay?
Hmm.
Why are you quiet?
Hello?
- Subbalakshmi...
- Hold on.
Okay, okay.
Here you go.
S for Subbu.
- I'll keep this on my heart forever.
- Hey!
I'm also thinking
of getting a tattoo.
Do whatever you want. I'm going.
Okay. Bye, Subbalakshmi!
"Don't let any eye catch a
glimpse of this gorgeousness"
Hold on, I'm tying.
"May her smile glisten
for a hundred years"
"Pull up the paradhas"
"Let the celebrations begin"
"May your blessings
always be upon us, Goddess"
"Our joys don't go beyond
our village premises"
"Our village sparkles
like the brightest star"
"All due to the smiles
of this pretty lady"
"Hearts have rejoiced"
"Where is she hiding?"
"The star who is hidden
from everyone's glances"
"When will she show up?"
"The one who is glowing with coyness"
"Did she descend from the heavens above?"
"Did she blossom on this occasion?"
"She touched our hearts and tickled them"
"She has opened the door to many miracles"
- What's happening?
- Let's go see.
"You'll find someone
better than Lord Rama"
"He'll get a palanquin for you
like they do for the Queens"
"Hey, gorgeous golden deer"
"Can I see you only in my dreams?"
"You're going to have
an eventful life with her"
"Your games won't work on her"
"You disappear into thin
air and make me chase you"
"You buzz around me like a dragonfly"
"Our village sparkles
like the brightest star"
"This shall guard you
like a billion shields"
"This paradha shall
become your confidante"
"It shall make you walk in
the shadows of the Goddesses"
"Our Goddess is your
protector from now on"
Subbu, how can I live without
seeing your face from tomorrow!
I can't do it, Subbu.
I get it.
It's sad that you're not
allowed to see my face.
So, until we get married and
you're allowed to see my face again,
I'll also not see your face.
Okay then, let's get
married tomorrow itself.
"There are no paradhas
to the love in the heart"
"Isn't that why I've offered
my love for you on a platter?"
"What's the point of your intense love?"
"I haven't been able to see your face"
"This is a game of Hide n Seek
Here comes the Cat; Go hide, Rat"
"Hide away, girl!"
"I'm not winning this game against you
Just pull me closer"
"Pull me closer to you"
"Our village sparkles
like the brightest star"
"All due to the smiles
of this pretty lady"
"A rainbow shines upon all of us"
"Every heart is rejoiced"
Move it! The bridegroom is here!
"Where is she hiding?"
"The gorgeous star that nobody has
laid eyes on" -The groom is on the way.
"When is she going to show up?"
"The maiden whose coyness makes her blush"
"Our village sparkles
like the brightest star"
"All due to the smiles
of this pretty lady"
"A rainbow shines upon all of us"
"Every heart is rejoiced"
Is that Subbu's photograph?
Is that Subbu?
Ramarao, is this how
you raise your daughter?
It's such a well-established magazine.
The whole world must
have seen her face by now.
- There has been a misunderstanding, dad.
- You shut up!
I don't think she got
that picture clicked, dad.
The picture is right here.
How can you deny it?
You said her upbringing
is solid. Is this it?!
How do you explain this, lady?
You've stripped our family and
our entire village of our honour.
Do you really want to marry such a girl?
Thank God, I bought the magazine.
Otherwise, her true colors
would never have come out.
Say something, girl!
I don't understand any of it.
What this picture is,
who clicked it,
I have no clue, Dad.
Did you pose for the photo
without your knowledge?
Did the photo end up on the
cover page without your knowledge?
We saw her true colors the
day her mom passed away.
Ramarao, is this how
you raise your daughter?
Don't you know the customs of our village?
Exactly! We've been living in the city for
10 years, and we never broke our customs.
Did you ever take the paradha off?
- No.
- That's respecting the system.
Dad, I don't think she got the picture
clicked. There's been a mistake.
- Shut up!
- You have no idea, just stay quiet.
You know what happens when a
girl takes her paradha off in our village.
Sravanthi's baby will
be affected by the curse.
Sravanthi sister, I haven't
done anything wrong.
Jwalamma knows that,
I am not at fault here.
Believe me! Aunty, tell them.
She's saying that she
hasn't done anything wrong.
You please don't talk.
You're not from this village.
You have no right to speak.
- At least hear her out.
- Mr. Dhanunjaya!
First, take her inside.
Listen to me. I really didn't do anything.
Dad... Dad... I didn't do anything wrong.
I don't know how this happened.
Please believe me, dad. Aunty!
Why don't you guys believe that
she didn't get the picture clicked?
Aunty...
Dad...
Our baby...
Our village's curse!
What do we do now?
It's in the best
interest of this village...
that she sacrifices herself to Jwalamma.
I don't see another solution.
What? You want to kill Subbu?
Have you guys gone crazy?
You think I'll just stand here
and watch you guys kill her?
I'll call the Police, mind you!
Wow! Look at you, running to her defense!
Make Ramarao say the same thing.
Brother, listen...
He can't say anything. He knows
the history of his daughter's birth.
Ramarao, speak out!
When his wife was pregnant with Subbu,
this guy's mother took her Paradha off.
So, he summoned the village committee...
and requested that the lady
be sacrificed to Jwalamma.
Even Subbu's birth was the
result of a woman's sacrifice.
Remember that.
If you call the Police, the first person
to go behind the bars is Ramarao.
Babies should be born in this village.
Subbu's life should be sacrificed.
You're all a disgrace to your stature.
Priest, make the
arrangements for her sacrifice.
The coming Sunday is a new-moon day.
We have to sacrifice her
to Jwalamma before that,
and get the restorative ritual performed.
Dad!
I swear I didn't get that picture clicked.
I know, dear.
Subbu, let's go!
Brother, pack your bags.
Let's leave this village.
Aunty!
I'm not listening!
We have to go right away!
Please, let's go to my city.
Nobody can harm you there.
- Please come with me.
- Aunty...
I'm not going anywhere.
If my village is going to
be cursed because of me,
Then I am ready to
sacrifice myself for the village.
She's not thinking straight, brother.
If I run away now,
- It means that I am fault, right?
- Subbu!
Subbu, Subbu, Subbu, have you gone mad?
They're going to kill you!
How do I make you understand?
No, aunty.
The only way for
Sravanthi's baby to be born...
is for me to die.
How can you believe all of this?
Your villagers are killing
women if their faces are seen.
Listen to me once for God's sake!
I swear on my life, I don't want
you meddling with our ritual.
Why is this happening?
I can't wrap my head around it, Subbu.
It all happened in a day.
I really didn't do anything wrong.
I never took my paradha off.
Why is this happening to me?
Why doesn't anyone believe that
you didn't get that picture clicked?
It's my karma!
Subbu...
I traced who the photographer is.
Apparently, he lives in Dharamshala.
I even got his contact number.
But, he's not picking up the calls.
Listen...
Let's meet him and
make him confess that...
you didn't consent to
getting that picture clicked.
Everything will be sorted, Subbu.
I won't let anything happen to you.
Please don't freak out.
Subbu!
How could he click the
picture without consent?
He even went on to publish it.
Rajesh...
just once...
just once I want to see your face.
Where women are honored,
there the gods rejoice
Where they are not,
all actions bear no fruit
Where women are honored,
there the gods rejoice
Stop! Please listen to us.
Please stop, dear.
Where they are not,
all actions bear no fruit
SRI SRI JWALAMBIKA DEVI'S DIIVINE FLAME
O girl, O girl You are the horizon
where the skies and snow meet
O girl of love You are the ocean of
affection, the divine blessing of grace
Pray to the Goddess and beg
for forgiveness for your mistakes.
Don't do this,
Subbu. Listen to me.
Let's go away from here.
Didn't you hear me?
I didn't take my paradha off and dishonor
our custom like the previous women.
I won't ask for forgiveness.
Subbu, look at me!
You must ask for forgiveness to
soothe the anger of the Goddess.
Somebody, please stop her!
Subbu, no!
Listen to me, Subbu.
Jwalamma, let me die if I
really did something wrong.
Make sure that the village isn't cursed.
But if I'm not in the wrong,
my life is your responsibility.
Subbu, please!
Have you guys lost your minds?
You will pay for this!
Take a glance at the history; It is a
woman always at the receiving end of a blow
We bow to your relentless
strength to withstand the patriarchy
Even a hundred Sitas would
still face blame in this age
Hell breaks loose when
you shut the eyes of justice
Those beastslike
Keechakatear into her soul,
And still she stands, even
when no weapons remain
O girl, O girl You are the horizon
where the skies and snow meet
O girl of love You are the ocean of
affection, the divine blessing of grace
You are the divine form who
took birth to elevate mankind
You are the immortal one who descended
like nectar, Our goddess our Aparanji
Stop!
Pull her out!
Somebody stop this!
Subbu!
Subbu!
Jwalamma is enraged! We shouldn't
go through with this sacrifice.
I've been telling you that she
hasn't done anything wrong.
Jwala Nari...
Sir...
Just because the lamp
burned out due to the wind,
how do you know that Jwalamma is enraged?
- The wind? Seriously?
- You don't talk!
Not a word!
No, listen to me.
Why would the Goddess be
furious if Subbu has wronged?
Why would she stop the
self-sacrifice? Please tell me.
President and Jwala Nari...
please don't put my baby's life at
stake by stopping this self-sacrifice.
We're nobody to condemn
the Jwala Naris' word.
The burned out lamp is a
sign of Jwalamma's anger.
But the whole world has seen her face.
If we don't sacrifice her,
our village will be cursed!
The village will turn into a graveyard!
We must go through with the sacrifice!
Yes, we must!
She's young.
In spite of knowing her innocence,
she agreed to sacrifice herself.
Your village was
initially cursed because...
Jwalamma was killed unjustly.
Maybe the Goddess is enraged because
she doesn't want that mistake to repeat.
But if you kill a girl who
has done nothing wrong,
how can you be assured that
Jwalamma won't curse you again?
Will you take that responsibility?
I wouldn't want my baby to bring
another curse upon this village.
At the same time, I can't
afford to lose my baby either.
I've known Subbu since she was a kid.
Before we proceed,
I think we should make
sure of what really happened.
The photographer is in
Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
He's out of reach, and
so is the magazine team.
There's no choice but
to meet him directly.
Once we meet him,
we can definitely prove that
Subbu hasn't done anything wrong.
When is your baby due?
In three weeks, sir.
Alright.
Before she delivers the baby,
you must visit the photographer...
and make him admit that this
happened without your consent.
The world must take note that the women
of our village will not do anything wrong.
Only then can we stop your sacrifice.
Don't even get any wrong ideas.
Remember, your dad's with us.
Dad, I'll go and make him spill the truth.
- Let me go, dad.
- Shut up!
This is her problem.
None of the villagers should
help her, and that's final.
The villagers shouldn't help, right?
I'm not from this village.
I'll go with Subbu.
If you can prove your innocence,
I'll get my son married to you.
In case you fail,
the consequences are going to be extreme.
If I fail to prove that I didn't
get that picture clicked,
I, myself, will sacrifice my life
to Jwalamma without question.
Remember, Subbu.
This Paradha will always protect you.
Okay, mom.
[mantras chanting]
Subbu has never left
home and travelled that far.
Please take care. I'm worried.
Don't worry, brother. She
is my responsibility now.
I'll take care of her.
Take this, dear.
Okay, dad.
- See you soon, brother.
- Be careful, dear.
I'll get that for you.

Did you board the train?
I can't pick you up.
Take an auto and come home.
Is this size okay?
Chop small pieces.
I'm buying chicken.
Make chicken broth once you come.
We've been eating only
hotel food since 4 days.
- Listen...
- Yeah, tell me.
I got a call from my hometown.
My aunt...
- Who?
- I keep mentioning her.
She is my neighbor back home.
She is the one who raised me.
I told you many times.
Come to the point.
So, I got news that she's extremely ill.
Apparently, her condition is critical...
and she's been asking for me.
- I'll go visit her for 4 days.
- Okay.
Hold on, just a minute!
You want to travel again?
- Who's going to take care of the kids?
- Alas!
It's just a matter of 4 days.
I'm the only family my aunt has.
How can I not visit her at
this time? Think about it.
Give me 4 days, that's all!
Alright. Make it 2 days.
Sure. Take care of the kids.
Alright.
Who will cook the chicken now?
Hello.
Hello, I can't hear you!
Sir... Sir...
There's no network here. Hello?
Sir, your order!
Hello? Hello?
- Sir!
- What's wrong with him?
Hey!
What is this?
I couldn't have survived without you.
I would've had to do this all alone.
You'll never be alone. I'm here for you.
Ami will handle everything, okay?
Her mother and I are best friends.
She offered to help when
I explained our situation.
Now the responsibility of taking us
to Dharamshala is entirely on her.
Don't worry a bit, okay?
It doesn't work like this, brother.
- Hurry up.
- Okay, sir.
Mr. Brijesh, the material
is still not delivered.
I told you that I need it by Friday.
Ma'am, I informed Lokesh
sir about the delay in delivery.
Why are you asking me again?
Who's the engineer here? Lokesh sir or me?
I need you to communicate with me.
This delay is messing up the schedule.
I need it by tomorrow.
Ma, I told you not to call me at work.
Dear, try to understand.
We've got to help them in this situation.
No! I'll get a driver to escort them.
He'll take them to Dharamshala.
How can I send them with a stranger?
Ratna is coming so far, relying on me.
If I were in Delhi, I would
have only taken them, right?
What is this nonsense, ma?
If we seek the Media
or Police's help,
we can put the whole village behind bars.
Instead, she wants to go to
Dharamshala and do what?
A single photo caused so much havoc.
Calling the Media and Police
would only make things worse.
She doesn't want that kind of exposure.
Moreover, you also need a break.
You don't get it, ma.
I'm going to be appointed as the Project
Lead for Excella in a couple of days.
Do you even know what that means?
You know how long I've
been working hard for this.
I have my own shit to deal with,
and you want me to go on a trip?
I can't do it, ma. I'm going. Bye.
Hello?
Ma'am, the new timelines
have been updated.
I need your approval before
I can send them across.
- Ma'am...
- What?
Can I take the day off tomorrow?
Why?
I'm not feeling well actually.
I've got bad period cramps. So...
Ma'am, just for one day.
Take a look around.
You're working with some of
the top engineers of the country.
How many women do you see?
- You want to be successful here?
- Yes, ma'am.
Then you're going to have to work
ten times as hard as these men.
Yes, ma'am.
I didn't get to where I am,
by giving excuses like you.
- You have to toughen up, okay?
- Yes, ma'am.
- You got that?
- Yes, ma'am.
Looks good. Send it.
Move. Let me check.
A little up.
Take it up.
Akshath will be leading Excella.
Our first big commercial project, guys.
The site plan is right in front
of you. Please go through it.
Can I have a word with you?
Yeah, sure.
Just give me a minute, guys. I'll be back.
It wasn't my decision, Amishta.
In fact, I fought for you.
I stood by you, you know that, right?
I had to promote Akshath this time.
The client was a little adamant.
Adamant about what exactly?
He's choosy!
He looks for perfection
in the smallest of things.
And if I'm the Project
Lead, there's no perfection?
I understand your frustration.
Does he know that I've been
working on this from Day 1?
All my nights and days have
been on Excella, and you know that.
I had no help. Definitely
not from Akshith.
The client doesn't want a
woman to head this project.
That is why they locked
Akshath as the Project Lead.
Amishta, listen!
- I'm availing all my leaves till date.
- What do you mean?
I'm going on a trip.
Hello.
Yes, Ami. Tell me.
- I'll pick them up.
- Really?
I'll take them around
Dharamshala in royal fashion.
Make sure they kick that photographer
out and then bring them back.
Thank you.
Okay? Are you happy?
You're a darling.
But listen, this is my trip.
And they're just tagging along.
- Understood?
- Okay. Happy Journey.
Is this the light that guides me?
Or just time mocking me with shadows?
Is the past pulling me back again?
They say they no longer believe me,
They ask for proof,
While the world throws accusations at me.
There's something a truth, somewhere
Can meaning ever triumph over judgment?
In this journey I walk alone,
Will I ever find peace?
Where the path has paused, Is
there still a distant destination?
Hey, is this you?
- Yeah!
- Okay, fine.
- I'm Ratna and she is Subbu.
- I'm Amishta. Come.
I'm Ami. Yeah.
In this vehicle? It
looks like a police van.
My story has no end,
It's a mystery, unknowable
Will I be left behind
Like a question without an answer?
What are you studying, dear?
Umm... I'm not a student,
aunty. I'm a Civil Engineer.
Oh! So you build buildings.
I thought you must be young.
I'm thirty.
Umm... Thirty in Telugu is...
Dabbhai.
It's not Dabbhai, It's Mupphai.
Mupphai, mupphai. Whatever.
English Medium, huh?
What?
What's your problem?
Where do I go?
Are you planning to fly over everyone?
Can't you see all these vehicles?
Why is she fighting with him, aunty?
Shut up, man! Go home, bloody idiot!
What a shitty start to the morning! Shit!
Is this what I truly wished for?
Today, the whole world
Looks at me as if I'm the fault
Do I still have a place
In this tangled web of reality?
How did this strange life
Become something I had to accept?
With every step, the problem
returns, Will it ever go away?
Ami... You go that way.
I'll go this way.
Aunty... Aunty...
Subbu!
- Aunty...
- Subbu! Subbu!
Aunty!
Aunty... Aunty...
I saw a huge picture of me on the road.
I didn't know what to do.
I got scared when I saw that photo.
Hello, Subbu.
Sravanthi sister...
How are you?
How's your health?
I'm doing alright, Subbu.
How are you? Did you meet the photographer?
We came to Delhi.
We're on the way to Dharamshala now.
Please take care of your health.
Don't be scared.
Jwalamma won't let
anything happen to your baby.
She'll ensure that you
have a safe delivery.
Who are you talking to?
Subbu.
Why are you talking to her?
They clearly said
we can't help her.
Is everything alright?
Kind of.
Mom told me your story.
Taking off the paradha resulting
in stillbirths is beyond science.
Babies are born a bit differently here.
- Don't joke about our custom.
- No, no.
It's a great custom.
Why would I joke about it?
But, your logic is beyond me.
Does it have to
be only a paradha?
Can you use a helmet or something?
Do you believe in God?
So you believe in Science?
Do you know how this
world came into existence?
Yeah! Big Bang.
How do you know? Did you witness it?
You must've read it somewhere, right?
Belief is the answer to a few things.
Just like our custom.
This paradha protects me.
I firmly believe that it
protects me from all dangers.
Right! You wouldn't have been ready to die
if you hadn't believed in it so firmly.
By the way, you said it
protects you from all dangers.
Is your paradha bullet-proof?
Did you hear that?
- Hey, girls! Stop fighting!
- Okay!
Forget about that. Ami, you tell me.
- When will you get married?
- Get married? Why?
How can you have kids
if you don't get married?
Why do I need to get married to have kids?
I just have to go to her village.
Boom! I'll have kids.
Ugh! Don't get started again.
Stop it.
Fine, just kidding.
I'm not so interested
in marriage and kids.
Is it?
Being a woman, you must
get married and have kids.
The only thing women
can do that men cannot is...
give birth.
Stop it!
Oh, my god!
Interesting! Okay!
Please tell her that I
don't want to talk to her.
Subbu, calm down!
What was that line again?
Men...
Come, aunty.
Shut the door.
Wow! This is humongous!
You're right.
- It looks bigger than my house.
- Hmm.
I wonder what the rent is like.
We should've rented a
basic room for 500 rupees.
But she rented a whole mansion.
I'm telling you, I'm not paying the rent.
Listen!
- Is this the bathroom?
- Yeah!
You should've told me
you were taking a bath.
I like attention.
Come, join me.
Listen, I'm not paying
rent for such a huge place.
I'll just pay the basic rent.
I don't remember
asking you to pool in.
You're supposed to. We're
sharing the space with you.
I'll pay according to my budget.
Otherwise, I'll go sleep
in the van, I'm telling you.
Sleep in the room, the car or
on the road. I really don't care!
Please don't spoil my mood. Go.
Shut the door on your way out.
Who was that for?
That woman bathing in the
tub all naked, with the door open.
Like a freaking man!
I can't deal with her, aunty.
We'll go our own way.
She's minding her own business.
Why do you care?
Exactly, aunty. More or
less, that's what I told her.
She's messing with my manasakshi
(conscience) for no reason.
It's not manasakshi.
It's manashanti (peace of mind).
Here's the money you spent on us till now.
Count properly. We don't
have to go ahead with you.
We'll go separate ways. Aunty, let's go.
This is 500 rupees short.
It's okay. Consider
it my discount.
Aunty, let's go!
- Where are you going?
- To jump into a river.
What's the deal with you?
We finally reached the hotel to rest.
Why do you have to leave so badly?
Are you her aunt or mine?
- Are you coming with me or not?
- Oh, gosh!
Aunty, let's go! Move!
- Subbu, listen to me.
- I'm leaving!
Excuse me. You forgot your paradha.
Subbu, please listen to me.
Hi, I had asked for 3 ginger-lime teas.
Can you make that two, please?
- Thank you.
- Please stop it.
Subbu, Subbu... Listen to me.
- Aunty, no!
- I said come inside. Sit!
Where will we go at
this time of the night?
On top of that, we don't
speak the language.
This isn't the time to lose your temper.
Think calmly.
You okay?
This whole thing is a joke to you, right?
That's not the case with me.
This is my life.
It's so important for me
to meet the photographer.
Why am I even telling you all this?
My dad,
Sravanthi sister,
Rajesh...
They're all waiting for me.
I can't stay calm like you.
Try to understand.
I won't joke anymore.
Let's leave early in the morning
to meet the photographer.
Thank god!
Too much running
Too much fighting
Too much drama

Mad lyrics, man!
We wrote them yesterday.
- Hi.
- Yes?
What's happened here?
Actually, there is a landslide.
We are waiting here since 2 -3 hours.
I don't know when it will be cleared.
Hello.
Hello.
Yes.
Hello.
You...
Photo...
Yeah, yes.
This is Vijayanand, the photographer.
Hello.
One minute, one minute.
Hello.
Can you hear me?
Ami...
Ami...
Not sure.
- Ami, come here.
- Hello?
Hello.
Quick!
Hello, can you hear me?
- What is it?
- The photographer.
The call got cut.
Give.
The call isn't going through.
I'll send a detailed message about you.
I guess he's having a network issue.
The message should go through.
Aunty.
Your husband has been calling all night.
This is a dosa that
looks like upma that...
- Hello.
- Oh, lord! You finally answered!
I've been trying all night to reach
you. Where did you disappear?
I was really tired.
- I crashed early.
- Whatever.
Is your aunt alive? I mean, is she fine?
She's in a really bad condition.
What happened? Let me talk to her once.
What?
You want to talk to her?
Aunty, my husband wants to talk to you.
Here, I'm putting her on the line.
Hello.
Tell me, son.
Aunty.
Don't you want to talk to me?
How are you doing?
What can I tell you?
I have really bad body pains.
Motions.
Same pinch, aunty.
Thank goodness, Ratnalu is here.
I feel better.
She takes care of me all day.
You are lucky.
You're the lucky one, son.
Me?
Ratna cooks so well.
- Do you know that?
- Of course, I do.
Why do you keep calling her
daily as if you're newlyweds?
What will happen if you
don't talk to her for a few days?
Nothing will happen.
Every time her phone rings,
my sleep is disturbed, son.
- Don't call her so many times.
- Sure, aunty.
Alright, I feel dizzy if I
talk on the phone for long.
Take good care of your kids.
Okay.
Give the phone to Ratnalu once.
Why do you want to talk to her again?
I mean...
Hello.
Did the call get disconnected
or did she cut the call?
No.
The oldie will take my case.
Stop it!
Look at you both laughing.
Geez!
Excuse me.
- Excuse me!
- Yeah?
Hey, what's going on?
The officials said it will take a
few days to clear the landslide.
I think you need to leave. It's better.
What about you? Where are you going?
Kashmir.
- You are walking?
- Yeah.
Wow!
- Okay. All the best!
- Bye! See you!
Who is he?
He is a traveller.
Some people travel all over India by foot.
Oh.
I didn't know people like him existed.
Hi.
We are planning to camp somewhere
until the landslide is cleared.
There is a village nearby.
We are planning to stay there.
If at all it's okay, you can join us.
- It's pretty safe.
- What say, Ami?
What say?
Let's go.
- Yeah. We'll join you.
- Just follow us, okay? Come.
Ami, can't we really go?
Is there no other way?
We need to meet that photographer soon.
I know.
We have come a long way.
This is the best route right now.
Don't worry.
We'll definitely meet
the photographer on time.
We'll figure it out, okay?
Dad...
No matter what you say,
I'd rather die...
than not get married to Subbu.
Oh, dear! This is for your own good.
Try to understand where he's coming from.
He only said that if Subbu could prove
her innocence, he would get us married.
Why isn't he sticking to his word now?
Yes, I did say that.
Okay, I believe you.
She didn't get the picture clicked.
But all the men out
there have seen her face.
Your friends, our relatives...
From the priest in the
village to the shepherd,
everyone has seen her face.
How can you marry such a girl?
Hey, look at that!
Look.
How long do we have to walk?
Hey, come here.
- Look at that!
- Hey! What is that?
Paragliding.
Para...
Gliding?
They're flying beautifully like birds.
- They're so high up.
- Would they fly on land instead?
Hey, let's take a video.
Hello! Beautiful view, isn't it?
Let's get out of here.
Oh, you are Telugu people?
Wow! Wherever we go in this
world, we meet Telugu people.
Which place are you from?
- Anakapalli.
- We are from Nellore.
Oh, I'm glad.
Really.
Who is she? Did she come from
North India and settle in the South?
No, no. We are proper Telugu people.
Then, what's up with the paradha?
That is their village's custom.
They don't show their face to anyone.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
I thought they did
this only in some parts of India.
I didn't expect to see
such wonders in our States.
Oh, very good, very good.
Follow me, all of you.
Can you see anything through that paradha?
I don't get these strange customs.
Careful.
Grab my hand.
That's it!
- Let's put up a campfire.
- Why not!
Welcome back to 'Travel with Shelly'.
And look at this view!
So beautiful, right?
All our plans have gone
for a toss due to a landslide.
Ami, how far are those mountains?
Very far, aunty.
Are they 4-5 kms away?
If so, I will just walk there.
No, aunty. They're easily 40-50 kms away.
40 kms?
It just looks close.
Surprisingly, I met
some Telugu people here.
This is my daughter.
Namaste.
Hello.
Looks like you found company.
Don't bother them too much.
I will call you when you go
for bird watching in the evening.
Alright then.
Are you also traveling with those bikers?
No, dear. My daughter
forced me to go on a solo trip.
She insists that I go out a bit,
as I am always home.
So you came on the trip just
because your daughter told you?
She's my daughter after all.
She will kill me if I
don't listen to her.
What are you waiting for? Let's go.
Tibetan prayer flags.
You must have seen them on the way.
The 5 colors in them
symbolize the 5 elements.
There are mantras on each flag.
If the wind that hits them hits us back,
they say the power of
those mantras will bless us.
Do you believe in such things?
If it's something that
does good to a few people,
what's wrong in it?
We're simply tying flags.
We're not sacrificing
humans or shit like that.
I'm so happy as if I've
climbed the Himalayas.
Be seated.
Welcome to the summit, guys.
Hi.
Who are the people in these pictures?
These are some of the people
who died climbing the Mount Everest.
It's actually my dream to
climb Mount Everest one day.
Many people try to climb that mountain.
But, not everyone can achieve it.
Those who're lucky come back down,
while some people die on the trek.
You know, most of the people
who die there are actually left there.
They just become landmarks
for other climbers going up.
Do you guys know something?
It costs 70 lakhs to
climb Mount Everest.
Holy moly!
It costs 70 lakhs to climb.
I thought they would
give me 70 lakhs if I climb.
- Hi, uncle.
- Hi, sir.
Hi, good evening everybody.
- Sit, sir.
- It's okay.
Please sit, sir.
Where were you?
I was told there is a bird
watching spot nearby.
- So, I went to see the birds.
- Wow!
Do you like birds so much?
What do you mean?
They're my life.
Oh!
Shall I tell you a story?
Yes.
One day, a bird flew into my balcony.
A beautiful rare bird.
It built a nest there and laid eggs.
I was amused, and I used to feed it daily.
One day, the bird flew
away and never came back.
The next day,
I saw it lying down dead,
far away in our colony.
I was very sad.
All its eggs have hatched
into birds at this point.
I started petting all the birds.
I was afraid of what would
happen to them if they flew away.
So, I kept them locked in a cage.
I took care of them like my own children.
But one day, I felt like
letting the birds out.
I went and opened the cage.
None of them came out.
Only one bird did, after a while.
The next moment, it
flew high up into the sky.
While it was flying in the sky,
four eagles showed up and killed the bird.
Now tell me.
Did I do the right thing or not?
It's not your fault.
You didn't know that it would die.
It's better to let them out
than keep them in the cage.
How is that right?
How can you let the birds
out knowing they would die?
I wouldn't let them out.
But that's what humans do, right?
Even my dad doesn't
let me go out at night.
Isn't that restricting my freedom?
Would you sacrifice your
freedom for comfort and shelter?
Would you spend your whole life in a
room thinking it's dangerous outside?
Put yourself in the bird's
shoes and think about it.
When I opened the cage, it
didn't come out at first.
It kept looking at the sky in fear.
But slowly, it has
stepped out of the cage.
It has discovered a
world beyond its reach.
The bird spread its wings
and flew up for the first time.
It crossed the clouds and mountains...
and flew towards the
sun, piercing the wind.
It only knew of keeping
herself warm with those wings.
But that day, she
understood their real purpose.
The bird's freedom became
the cause of its death.
It's too much to take, sir.
It's quite sad.
There's no right or wrong
when it comes to freedom.
Do you know what's wrong?
Not letting life experience freedom.
The death that comes when
you do what you love and enjoy life,
what a glorious death!
Okay, sorry to bore you all.
You all have fun!
- Thank you. Good night.
- Good night, sir.
- Good night, sir. Bye.
- Bye!
Guys, the announcement just came in.
The landslide won't be
cleared for another 3 days.
Don't worry. You can stay here till then.
Yeah, sure.
- Sravanthi sister...
- Subbu!
I am feeling worried, Subbu.
What happened?
I have a feeling that something
bad is going to happen.
Where are you?
Finish the thing you set out
to do and come back soon.
We had to halt due to a landslide, sister.
We'll meet the photographer
in 3 days for sure.
You don't worry.
- Okay?
- Okay, Subbu.
Come back soon.
Why are these dosas turning out so bad?
I think the pan isn't in good condition.
Dad!
Hey!
Ask that bus driver to stop honking.
Here, take this.
Your breakfast.
Ask that bus driver to stop honking.
You guys stop playing!
He's been honking non-stop!
Hey, give us 5 minutes.
The kids are having breakfast.
They will wear their uniform and come.
Hey!
Hey! Put this shirt on!
Do you think you are
Salman Khan? Put it on.
I don't know how!
What do you mean you don't know?
He's honking non-stop!
Put it on.
- Here.
- Daddy!
- Daddy, it's stinking!
- Cover your nose!
- The shirt is wrinkled.
- Cover your eyes.
- Button it.
- Daddy!
Wait, I'm coming.
What's the matter?
Daddy, my hair.
They're coming. Are you dying or what?
Hold on. You button the shirt.
Turn around.
Why did you remove the plaits?
Your mother plaited it, right?
I told you to keep them till she's back.
How do I do this?
Just go like this and call it fashion. Go!
Teacher will scold me.
You're not eating the breakfast I make.
You deserve those scoldings. Go.
You come here.
Wait, wait, wait.
Here. They sell chilli fritters
outside the school, right?
Get yourselves some. Go.
Mom would cook such yummy stuff for us.
20 rupees aren't
enough. Give 100 rupees.
100?
How will 20 rupees be enough?
That's right. You're
smart, just like your mother.
Go ahead and loot me. Go.
Hurry up!
Quick!
Sir, I'm going home.
Hey, stop.
When did you come?
And how can you leave already?
You didn't dust the
house or do the dishes.
I did all of that yesterday itself.
- I'll come back tomorrow.
- What the hell!
You did the chores yesterday.
So now you'll only work tomorrow?
What about today?
Ratna is the right boss for you.
Oh, god! This is overwhelming!
Is my heart pounding?
Cool, cool, cool.
I forgot something.
I forgot something.
I have to go to work. Oh, shit!
Subbu, what's wrong?
You want me to come?
It's okay, aunty.
You go ahead.
I'll stay here.
Okay, be careful.
Subbu, where are you?
I've been calling since morning.
Your phone is not reachable.
Did Rajesh call you?
If not,
call him immediately.
[Mantras]
Priest, read the groom's name and
bride's name again.
Rajesh and his lawfully
wedded wife Priyanka.
Subbu?
Where's Subbu?
Subbu?
Subbu?
Subbu?
Subbu?
Subbu?
Pick her up!
- Let's go!
- Shut her mouth.
Aunty!
Aunty!
Subbu!
Subbu?
Subbu?
Over there!
Aunty!
Subbu!
- Subbu!
- Aunty!
Subbu!
- Subbu!
- Leave me!
- Subbu!
- Aunty!
Hey, stop!
Ami, what do we do?
Stop! Stop!
They took Subbu.
- What happened?
- They've kidnapped Subbu. Please hurry!
Ami, come.
Hurry up!
Subbu!
Subbu!
Hold her feet down!
Hold her arms!
Shut up, lady! Stop screaming!
Hold her feet.
Ami, drive fast.
I hope they're not hurting her.
Subbu...
Ami, drive fast.
That way.
Oh, lord!
Remember, Subbu.
This paradha will always protect you.
Dude, let go of the girl!
Hurry up!
- Go, go!
- Get rid of her, man!
- Stop the vehicle!
- Let's go!
Stop the vehicle!
Bro, bro, bro! Stop!
- Go check her.
- Shit, shit, shit!
Shit!
Guys, let's go.
Are you okay?
- Is she okay?
- Subbu!
Subbu!
Is she fine?
Move!
Check on her.
Are you okay?
Subbu!
Subbu!
Subbu!
Isn't being born a woman itself a curse?
Will there never be a day
when my dreams come true?
Is the heart torn into shreds
due to the traditions I uphold?
Even in the end, in
deathdon't I still win?
Every step halts like a frozen wave
Every wound that flares up
Is it only meant to be cooled by tears?
Even if my life is a living death,
Hello.
Subbu dear...
How are you doing, sweetheart?
I haven't seen you in so long.
You've never been away
from me even for a day.
How are you coping up now, dear?
What all are you going through?
Even if the nest is wrecked,
the bird watches helplessly
Isn't the jasmine-like beauty
just scattering its life away?
Don't assume no light will shine on you.
Your courage will become
that path and show you the way
Dear...
I'll make sweet rotis by
the time you come back.
Bye.
"My heart swells up from this delusion"
Mom!
Mom!
Mom...
Let go! Mom... Mom...
Mom...
If you step back with pain,
The world won't stand with you
This boundary that's been
holding you back all these years...
You can't change your
fate without breaking through
Subbu.
You asked if this is bulletproof, right?
I don't know what to believe anymore.
I did everything by the rulebook, right?
Huh?
Why didn't this paradha protect me then?
It was supposed to protect me!
Where did I go wrong?
I came this far to prove my
innocence. Is that my mistake?
Some guy clicked my picture and
Jwalamma is punishing me for it?
I don't get why I'm being punished!
I've never taken the
paradha off in my life.
Is it my fault if the Paradha
flies off due to the wind?
I followed every instruction
the elders gave me, right?
Then why is this happening to me?
- Why me?
- Subbu, no.
Do you know...
all the places they touched me?
Subbu, please forget about it.
Do you know all the
places they touched me?
That paradha was supposed
to protect me, damn it!
Subbu...
Listen to me.
Only you know what you're
going through right now.
Pain, anger, fear...
I can't even imagine but I can understand.
But...
it's not about the paradha.
They would've attacked you even
if you were in a fricking space suit.
It's not your fault.
This is the reality.
All these paradhas are only
meant to mask the reality.
So you're saying...
Jwalamma is wrong?
No, not at all!
I'm saying what they told
you about her might be wrong.
Yes, Subbu. Think about it.
Jwalamma is a warrior.
Do you think she would
tell women to wear paradhas?
Do you really believe that?
Jwalamma, who died while pregnant,
is now demanding babies as a sacrifice?
Do you seriously believe that?
So, even after this incident,
do you think Sravanthi
will still deliver the baby?
- Yes, Subbu!
- Of course!
You said the paradha would protect you.
And that babies would
die if you took it off.
The paradha didn't
protect you, now, did it?
Then how is it going to
do anything to the baby?
Tell me this.
Has a single baby died in
your village in all these years?
Huh?
But your custom has taken
the lives of many women.
Isn't that why the babies survived?
Do you really think so?
If only one of the women lived,
we would've known if the
babies would've survived or not.
Try questioning your beliefs once, Subbu.
Subbu...
If you genuinely worship Jwalamma,
you should have her courage.
People put so many paradhas on
us in the name of customs and love.
But this is your life.
Live the way you want to.
Got it?
Live the way you want to.
For the yesterdays you
didn't get to say goodbye to,
Welcome tomorrow with open arms.
Spread your wings and soar!
There's no boundary to where you can go.
Let the skies be your only limit,
Cross everything in
your way with confidence.
It's now time to rest your old dreams,
It is goodbye to the paradhas
Don't stop running no
matter who comes in the way
For the yesterdays you
didn't get to say goodbye to,
Welcome tomorrow with open arms.
Oh you, open your eyes to a sweet dream
No despair should come near your path,
Let it never reach you, not ever.
Your heart is already
seeing a world full of color.
- It's the Magazine girl!
- Is it?
Yeah!
There's no boundary to where you can go.
You don't have to take
it off because I'm here.
It's nothing to do with you.
I only didn't want to wear it.
Will you wear my clothes if I wear yours?
What?! You'll seriously
wear a half saree?!
Every path is opening
just for your arrival
Every dawn lies within your smile,
It found its form because of you
Your step took a different road,
And it circled the whole world with it.
The ride is here, Subbu. Come.
I'm afraid of heights, aunty.
Just close your eyes and
trust me. Let's go, Subbu.
Let's go?
Spread your wings and soar!
There's no boundary to where you can go.
Subbu, the landslide got cleared.
We can meet the photographer.
I don't want to meet him yet, Ami.
Once I meet him, it's all over!
I want to...
I want to stay here for a few more days.
I won't let you go even if you want to.
Stop it!
Visiting Dharamshala
someday is on my bucket list.
What's a bucket list?
It's a list of things you
want to do in your life.
Every time you achieve
one, you tick it off the list.
Play Cricket; Get a Job; Touch Snow
Your playfulness overflows,
It echoed in every heartbeat
This journey is like a sweet, that
lingers as a lasting experience.
Such joy before even reaching your dreams,
Every page turns on its own,
Let this happiness stay
by your side forever.
Like footprints that
never fade in the desert.
Spread your wings and soar!
There's no boundary to where you can go.
Let the skies be your only limit,
Cross everything in
your way with confidence.
It is goodbye to the paradhas
Don't stop running no
matter who comes in the way
For the yesterdays you
didn't get to say goodbye to,
Welcome tomorrow with open arms.
Oh you, open your eyes to a sweet dream
No despair should come near your path,
Let it never reach you, not ever.
Your heart is already
seeing a world full of color.
Roam in my village without a Paradha.
- Subbu...
- Hmm.
Take a look at this.
Hi, Amishta. I hope this video helps.
Thanks for bringing this to my notice.
That photographer has sent a video to Ami.
I went to South India on a
photography assignment.
While trying to capture
a native bird there,
in the process of tracking it,
out of nowhere, in the middle of a field,
I spotted a girl.
There was something about that moment.
I've been a wildlife
photographer all my life.
But for the first time, I
wanted to capture a person.
And in a fraction of a second,
I captured that moment.
And I realized it's
my best work till date.
I wanted to show her the
photograph and get her consent.
But I couldn't find her.
When I checked my
DMs a few days ago,
I realized what a big mistake I've done.
Her life was ruined because
of the photograph that I took.
I found out that she tried to contact me.
I don't know what to say, Subbalakshmi
garu, but I'm extremely sorry.
Sorry for taking your photograph
without your consent, and troubling you.
Please forgive me.
I'm ready to do anything to get
you out of the mess that I've created.
What do you want to do now?
I have no reason to stay here any longer.
We need to return immediately.
Ami!
Ami!
Why are they honking continuously?
Move aside, man!
Shut up! Where do you want me to go?
It's a girl?!
Ma'am, who put you
behind the wheel?
Go ride a Ladybird!
Bloody idiot!
Ami, no!
Listen to us.
Aunty, hold on tight.
Ami, slow down.
Ami!
Ami! Let them pass by.
- Why are you being so stubborn?
- Shut up!
Move!
- Ami, Please slow down.
- Quiet!
Ami, listen to me.
Aunty!
Ami!
Hey! Are you insane?
Are you okay?
Aunty... Aunty...
Aunty!
Aunty! Aunty!
Aunty!
Aunty!
Get water!
Pull over.
I feel dizzy.
Have some water.
- What happened?
- She's feeling a little sick.
Are you okay?
- She doesn't feel good at all.
- Don't worry.
My house is nearby.
You can actually rest there.
- Please come.
- Yeah.
Careful. Careful.
Don't worry, luckily you're not injured.
You can rest here. Call
me if you need anything.
Thanks.
Please feel home.
Thank you.
Sorry, aunty.
That jeep driver
was really rude.
I did it in a fit of rage.
Fortunately, she
didn't get hurt.
But, what if she did?
Should others suffer due
to your impulsiveness?
I know. My mood was off, I'm sorry.
When are you in a good mood?
You're always fighting over something.
- Calm down, Subbu.
- We should just take the bus.
- Nobody got hurt, right?
- I can't deal with her anymore.
Ami... Ami...
Subbu! Subbu, listen to me!
Oh, no!
Why were you desperate
to chase that jeep guy?
Was the world about to end?
Why do you want to compete
with men in everything?
You finally won the race, right?
Are you happy now?
Yes, I am!
I'm really happy!
I'm sorry for whatever
happened to aunty but...
I don't regret racing him at all.
You know why?
Because at least there I
got to win against a man.
I've been slogging my assince 8 years.
Despite knowing that I'm being
paid lesser than my male counterparts.
My health, relationships,
personal life, everything!
I've sidelined everything
to succeed in life.
I've been competing rigorously.
Despite all that, some guy comes around...
and snatches away
everything that I deserve.
They don't even show me the
same respect as they do to a man.
Despite being more experienced,
talented and hard-working.
I give my best every
single day. Every single day!
It's unfair. Why should I slog
in spite of knowing the reality?
Because I want to be at the top!
Is that wrong?
Don't I deserve to be on top?
I have to keep pampering the egos
of men sitting at the top to get there.
Even after doing so much,
I again lost to some guy.
At least in that race, I
was an equal opponent.
That jeep driver and I competed
equally, and I freaking won!
So, yes! I'm really, really, really happy!
- But Ami...
- You took off the paradha like yesterday.
You want to just go, no,
like a coward? Just go!
Don't lecture me!
Dad, I don't want to eat this.
Shut up and finish it!
I don't want this!
Idiot!
What the hell is this? Huh?
What's wrong with you?
Hello.
Mom, when are you coming home?
What's wrong, dear? Why are you crying?
Dad hit Pavan today.
Really? Why? What happened?
Is it your mom? Let me speak.
Do you care about your family at all?
You've been gone for
more than two weeks now.
How do you expect me
to handle everything?
You're not even
concerned about your kids.
It seems like you only
care about your aunt.
I'll be back in another 2 days.
Two more days?!
I did a big mistake by sending you there.
You find it better there because
you don't have to work, right?
Do one thing! Don't come back!
I'll manage things on my own, damn it!
Aunty...
Sorry. This is all my fault.
Even the kids are
having a tough time, is it?
Let's go back home.
When will I live for myself, Subbu?
When I was young, I lived for mom and dad.
Then I lived for my husband.
Now I'm living for my kids.
They need to survive on
their own someday, right?
Actually, I should be thanking you.
The world is so big!
It's so beautiful!
I didn't even know this till now.
These mountains...
New people, new experiences...
It's all thanks to you.
This is the first time...
I lived the way I want.
You know, I'm actually very proud of her.
She came so far and that's commendable.
But, what's the point?
At the end of the day, she's just like...
the other girls out there.
You know, typical and ignorant.
They can't fight like you and me.
They're too delicate. They ask
for a day off if they get their period.
They just want to do their
makeup and shopping.
Taking care of the husband
and kids is their life goal.
They don't step out of that box.
You know something?
When I have period cramps,
I also take a personal leave.
And, I love shopping.
I love makeup.
My husband always complains
that I buy too much jewelry.
You're married?!
Yes.
And I love pampering my husband.
I love cooking. I want kids too.
Would you call me a
typical woman for that?
Or, in your language, weak?
If you call me weak,
I'll shoot you!
So...
Who decides how a woman should be?
She must decide for herself.
The men of this world
can't understand us anyway.
They cannot empathize.
But as a fellow woman,
you know how tough it is.
You can understand them.
So, what if we stand by each
other as friends, all the time?
Wouldn't that make the struggle easier?
What say?
Subbu...
Sorry...
My sweet Subbu...
I'll apologize to Ratna
aunty as well, okay?
Go to sleep.
Let go.
I'm asking you one last time.
When are you coming back?
Do you think this is funny?
If you don't come back, I'm going to
come over there and bring you back.
Yeah, come over and take me home.
I'm somewhere in Dharamshala right now!
Dharamshala?!
The one in North India?!
Aren't you good at general knowledge, huh?
Why don't you develop some
knowledge about your family as well?
Let me tell you something.
I don't even have an aunt.
She passed away 10 years ago.
Just make some effort to know who
among my relatives is alive and who isn't.
By the way, why are you calling me back?
I cook, do household chores,
and make life easy for you.
Now you're struggling to
take care of the kids, right?
Listen, it's your home too,
and they're your kids too.
So, you better learn to do all
this yourself before I return home.
How did she end up at Dharamshala?
Dear...
Dear...
Sravanthi... Sravanthi...
What happened, Sravanthi?
Lakshmamma!
Look, Ramarao.
See the result of letting
your daughter go that day.
We're afraid that Jwalamma's
curse is back in our village.
You don't step into my house.
You don't step into my house.
Ramarao...
Wherever your daughter is,
ask her to come right away!
Call her!
Call your daughter and
ask her to come immediately!
What are you looking at? Call her!
- Hello, Subbu.
- Dad?
Subbu!
Listen.
I don't care where you are.
Come here right now.
Sravanthi's baby has
turned sideways in her womb.
There's nothing left for
you to prove anymore.
We won't hesitate going
to any length for this village.
You must be sacrificed.
If you're not here by evening,
beware, you will lose your dad!
Come back!
Hello?
Mom!
Let go!
Mom!
Mom!
PADATHI VILLAGE
ATHMAHUTHI GRAVEYARD
Even Subbu's birth was the
result of a woman's sacrifice.
Remember that.
Please bear the pain.
Please bear the pain. It's almost done.
- It's almost done.
- Please bear it for some time, sister.
We're all here for you, don't worry.
Are you sure, Subbu?
They'll kill you!
You told me to question
my beliefs, right, Ami?
This is the only way to know...
how true this custom is.
But if you show up like this,
you know they'll not spare you, right?
What will happen, aunty?
If their custom is really true,
and the baby dies,
I'll sacrifice my life
before they get to me.
Subbu!
But in case the custom isn't real,
all the women in this village
can step out without a paradha.
The day I took off my paradha,
I prepared myself for the consequences.
I've got to do this.
Don't stop me no matter
how things go out there.
Just stand by me.
Subbu, think about it once again.
Listen to me, Subbu!
Please bear the pain!
Alas! She's in a lot of pain!
Please bear the pain
for just a little while.
Bear for a little while.
Please be strong.
Please bear with it. You're almost there.
Stay strong, dear. It will be done.
Sravanthi, help her!
Sravanthi sister!
You get inside!
Sister, are you okay?
Sister!
Oh, no!
What's wrong, aunty?
What happened?
The baby is not moving, Suguna.
It won't survive!
Jwalamma's curse is back!
Get some hot water.
Subbu is walking in the
village without a paradha.
Alas! Our village has been cursed again!
She entered the village
without the paradha?!
Let's go, guys!
Such a wonderful
daughter you have, damn it.
Sravanthi sister, wake up!
You have to wake up!
You need to wake up for your baby!
Oh, Jwalamma!
Sravanthi sister, do it for your baby!
Sister, come back!
Sister!
You're doing fine. You're alright.
Take deep breaths.
This is entirely your fault.
This is entirely your fault!
It's a baby girl.
Sravanthi sister delivered a baby girl!
Hail, Jwalamma!
Hail, Jwalamma!
Hail, Jwalamma!
The one who births worlds and guides them.
Every woman born is
a symbol of your power.
You are the one who deserves worship.
.You are the first spark of
every woman's soul Sharvani
You are the Amma, the
guardian behind every fortress.
You slayed the demon
Mahishasura with your fury
You became Rudrani, a fierce protector...
O girl, O girl You are the horizon
where the skies and snow meet.
O girl of love You are the ocean of
affection, the divine blessing of grace.
You are the divine form who
took birth to elevate mankind
You are the immortal one who descended
like nectar, Our goddess our Aparanji
Where women are honored,
there the gods rejoice
Where they are not,
all actions bear no fruit
Take a glance at the history; It is a
woman always at the receiving end of a blow
We bow to your relentless
strength to withstand the patriarchy
Even a hundred Sitas would
still face blame in this age
Hell breaks loose when
you shut the eyes of justice
Those beastslike
Keechakatear into her soul,
And still she stands, even
when no weapons remain
O girl, O girl You are the horizon
where the skies and snow meet
[Everyone] Hail, Jwalamma!
O girl of love You are the ocean of
affection, the divine blessing of grace
You are the divine form who
took birth to elevate mankind
You are the immortal one who descended
like nectar, Our goddess our Aparanji
Where women are honored,
there the gods rejoice
Where they are not,
all actions bear no fruit
Do you believe that
your village will change?
The old Subbu wouldn't have believed it.
But this Subbu does.
Do you know why I clicked
your picture that day?
It's the fire in your eyes.
Nobody can miss that.
I want you to capture my photo once again.
One day, the women in my village
will go around without any paradha.
And when that happens,
I'll give you a call.
On that day, I want you
to publish this photograph.
My story didn't end with my
photo on the magazine cover.
In fact, that's when it actually began.
