Rock the Boat (2023) Movie Script
[singer] Driving down the 101
Thinking 'bout the way it was
It's feeling like we're having fun
Now, I'm headed for the sun
Reaching for the stars
which I'm far from
But I believe the way to
go is how the way it go
The way it go, go, go
I believe the way to
go is how the way it go
The way to go...
[Tracy] This is gonna be amazing.
I'm so excited, the yacht, the people.
I'm so happy we're doing this.
We really need this.
Yeah, we needed it.
I needed it.
I love you so much.
I love you.
Let's go have some fun, okay?
Yeah.
Did you, uh, did you pack that bikini I like?
[crashing]
[tense music]
[theme music]
[singer] I drove by
your house the other day
I have so much I wanted to say
I know I could have
done better by you
Back when it was just us two
If I can go back
I wouldn't be as hard
I hope you know can heal past scars
I love you
You
You
I love you
You
You...
Wake up, sleeping beauty.
[grunts]
It's too early, Soph.
Are you kidding?
We have a long day ahead of us.
Wake up.
Oh, my gosh.
Soph, I cannot believe
I'm going to Webber Tech next year.
Well, believe it!
My bestie is a winner.
Just get up.
[groans] Enough.
[Sophia] Up, up, up.
Okay. - I'm a winner. I'm a winner.
I'm a winner. Okay.
- A winner and drop it low.
Drop it low. That's what we are.
[singer] We belong here
Now, baby, baby,
I know you feel so amazing, amazing
Tonight is the night
that you lose control
Like the Super Bowl go crazy
Crazy, crazy, crazy
Now free your mind, free your soul
Feel the vibe, let it go
I can take you a place
real far from home...
[squeals]
Girl, drink up.
Okay, all right. - Yeah, yeah.
Congrats to you
to being the first one out of all of us
to get a real job out of college, okay?
[Sommer] Yes, I am so proud of you.
Thank you. - Okay.
Enough congratulations to Millie.
Where are the boys?
I mean, I do love you and I'm proud of you
but I didn't come tonight just to praise you
and drink shots with my girls.
I can do that anytime I want.
Tonight, it's all about the boys.
[laughs]
I think it's time for Bree to take a shot.
Millie, stop being funny, girl,
you know I don't even drink.
Come on, just one?
I mean, it is my celebration party.
Not everyone gets a job
at Webber Tech fresh out of college.
Bree, you don't drink and you're a virgin.
What are you doing in college?
To learn. Thank you very much.
[Channel] Don't you think it's
time you clean the cobwebs
out of your garage and get a
nice big car to park inside?
Oh, girl. I mean look around.
There are plenty of Bentleys...
- [Sophia] Hmm.
...Porsches... - [Sophia] Hmm.
...and stretch limos in here tonight.
Channel, none of them are parking
in this garage tonight, okay?
Well, like, you know I'm
saving myself until marriage
and I don't intend to ever drink alcohol
because I've seen it ruined too many lives.
And... okay.
Maybe a little bit of red
wine on my wedding night
when I find Mr. Right, of course.
Right.
Well, until then...
[Bree] What?
You're still mine.
One more. - Okay.
Okay. One more. - I'd love to see that.
I'd love to see that.
Shot, shot, shot, shot, shot.
Come on. - Oh, come on.
We got to turn it.
Hit the table, ladies.
Shot o'clock.
[singer] Now baby, baby
I know you feel so amazing, amazing
Okay.
[singer] ...that you lose control
Like the Super Bowl go crazy
Crazy, crazy, crazy
Now free your mind, free your soul
Feel the vibe, let it go
I can take you to a
place real far from home
[Channel] Okay. Come on, girl.
[Bree] What is up with that?
Oh, my God.
Excuse me.
I am looking for the most
beautiful woman alive.
She's five-foot-six.
She has the most amazing body ever.
I was told I could find her over here.
You seen her? - No. I'm sorry.
I can't help you, sir.
Damn. Well then, what's your name?
You look better than her anyway.
Can you stop?
My bad, bro.
Millie, what it do, baby?
Hey.
I'm not gonna lie.
This party is fire.
Thank you.
But you know I'm still mad you
let this guy get you and not me.
Oh, come on, Lewis.
Now you know I love you way more than Kaleb.
It's just you're too
much of a bad boy for me.
Hey, what can I say, bro?
Girls love good guys.
Yeah, a'ight.
Y'all have fun with that.
I'm about to go hit this party.
Oh-oh!
Gotta love him, right?
Gotta love him.
[Lewis] Gotta love me.
So how you enjoying the celebration?
I love it.
I'm here with all my friends,
the most amazing man in the world,
and the sexiest woman alive.
Oh, stop it.
What more could a girl ask for?
My dad's boat?
I got the keys to the master suite.
Oh, you guys take as much time as you want
and I'll keep the party
live until you get back.
Ah, thanks, Sophi.
Yeah, you guys owe me big time
and bring her back safely.
Okay.
[singer] If I give you all of me
Would you give me all of you?
And if I fall over back down
Would you follow me through?
And if I wanna know
would you tell me that...
What was that for?
Thank you for all of this.
And thank your parents for me too.
What are you talking about?
Me getting a job at Webber Tech,
your family's company,
straight out of college?
No internship?
Baby, it doesn't work like that.
Webber Tech is one of the top five companies
in the marketplace.
They didn't get that far
by showing favoritism.
You being my girlfriend
has nothing to do with it.
You earned the job on your own.
They wouldn't have even looked
my way if it wasn't for you.
What are you talking about?
Come on.
I know you gave them my recommendation.
I mean, I don't even have a resume yet.
Okay.
I may have put it in a little word,
but the rest you did on your own.
Believe me when I tell you that.
You're more than qualified, Millie.
[woman screaming]
What was that? - I don't know.
Oh, my God.
What happened?
[tense music]
[Coach Michaels] You broke last year's record
by three seconds.
Cool.
Keep it up, you might just win the gold, boy.
[Adam] Yeah. - Nice job.
Well, that's the plan, Coach.
Nice job, man.
You just need to be a little...
a little faster for me,
but you're doing good, bro.
It's good to see you back, bro.
I know it's been tough.
[Adam] Oh, yeah, man.
I know it's been three months,
but it felt like it happened yesterday.
He was gonna be an attorney like our pops.
Man, he was so smart, bro.
He's nothing like me.
I guess they gave me all the athleticism
and they gave him all the smarts, right?
Nah, man.
He'd always tell me I'd
be the first Black man
to win a gold medal in
the Olympics for swimming.
I just miss him.
Look, man, if you need anything, bro,
here for you.
My family's always here.
You already know.
[Adam] I appreciate that.
Of course.
I'm here for you too, bro.
Not easy, man.
[water gushing]
[man] Adam!
Yo, Adam! Adam!
Adam.
Adam!
[dispatcher] 911, what's your emergency?
[sirens wailing]
This is crazy.
Oh, man.
Another one.
[Detective Daniels] Man.
Whoa, whoa. - What's going on, guys?
What the hell happened to Adam, bro?
That's what we're trying to figure out.
Now there's been two murders
in the matter of months
and they were brothers,
which to me seems a little suspicious.
What are you talking about suspicious?
What happened to him?
None of you or any of your friends
knew that he was taking
these drug enhancements
or any illegal substance?
No. - No, no way.
We're on the same swim
team and he's my roommate.
I never seen him take
anything as much as a Tylenol.
He was anti-drugs.
Well, according to this, he wasn't.
Maybe he just hid it well.
He was blood tested every week.
There's no way he was using.
That's interesting. - Uh-hmm.
Maybe we should talk to the coach.
Yeah. All right, take my card.
Call me if you have more information.
Hey, Coach Mike, can we have a word with you?
[Detective Daniels] After
reviewing the autopsy
on Lewis McCall?
The young man had way too much
alcohol and drugs in his system.
He blacked out,
hit his head at the back of the boat
and drowned.
So they're saying that this
is an accidental death?
Looks like it.
And then all of a sudden,
his brother ODs on enhancement drugs.
Something feels funny.
There is nothing here, Jacobs.
They were both accidents.
Soph!
What the hell?
[camera shutter]
You still think this is an accident?
You ladies have no idea
who could have done this?
Why would we?
Dear Diary, it was an accident.
Does that mean anything to anyone of you?
No.
Why don't you guys do your job
and find out why instead of asking us?
We don't know what's happening.
Listen, obviously we're just
as in a dark as you guys are.
And that's what we're trying to do here.
We're on your side, trust me.
So you walk to the bathroom while Ms.
Dixon was asleep
and you found this message on the mirror?
Yes. How many times do I
have to tell you the story?
Well, that's right.
Just gathering information.
So, neither one of you ladies heard anything.
You just slept through
someone entering your room
and leaving this message and just leaving?
It would really help us if
you could find the person
who did this and stop torturing my friends
with all these questions.
I got it, Sommer.
Listen, I don't really appreciate
the sarcasm, Detective.
My friend and I didn't hear anything.
Now this has been super
traumatic for all of us.
So if you don't have anything
else, you can leave.
You know, I think I have
everything that I need for now.
You ladies try to enjoy
the rest of your night.
Hey, Stan. How's it going, man?
Yeah, I need some information on
a Millie Gray and Sophia Dixon.
Can you check the database
and see what you can find?
All right, cool. Appreciate it.
[sighs]
[sirens wailing]
[telephone ringing]
Hey, Stan.
Tell me something good, brother.
Yeah, a photo, I can get that to you.
Okay. Cool, thanks.
Ooh.
All-nighter, huh?
Yeah.
It was something about that Millie girl
that was a little odd to me.
I-I feel like she knows
more than she's saying.
I know I'm not crazy.
Well, you look crazy
and you look like you need to rest.
Yeah, I'll rest when I can figure this out.
[Detective Daniels] There's
nothing to figure out.
[chuckles] You really need to let this go.
The two brothers died by accident.
Not a coincidence or a conspiracy,
but an accident.
Yeah, but I mean, if it was an accident,
the fact in this teeny tiny dorm room,
somebody was able to sneak in
and fully write a message on the mirror,
neither of the girls heard anything,
I mean, come on, Daniels, it's fishy.
Well...
maybe you're right.
Have you checked on these ladies?
What do you think I've been doing all night?
Give it some time.
It could just be a college prank.
Or it could all be connected.
We'll find out soon enough.
Whoo.
[dramatic music]
[sighs]
[suspenseful music]
[crickets chirping]
Amazing. - [laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
[footsteps approaching] - [woman] Oh.
How do I look? - You look good,
like the Black beautiful
goddess that you are.
More like you just stole my outfit.
I mean, it's just dinner, not the Grammys.
Channel, you were the one that told me
I needed to look more sexy.
Looks to me like you're trying
to get you a new man. - [Sommer] Uh-hmm.
Well, he is a lawyer. - [woman] Oh.
[Sommer] Okay, a big shot attorney?
He sounds like a keeper.
Jackpot girl. - Uh-hmm.
Right.
Well, I'll see you later tonight.
Don't wait up for me. - [Terri] We won't.
[woman] What? Uh-uh. - [laughter]
Hanky-panky. - Yeah. She said
don't wait up for her. - Oh.
[indistinct chatter] - That's not Bree.
That's not Bree.
Who's that?
[suspenseful music]
[Bree screams] - Oh, my God.
That was Bree. Call 911.
Hurry!
[Bree screams]
[suspenseful music]
Oh, my God, Bree!
[suspenseful music]
[Terri gasps]
[Detective Daniels] So, no one was with Bree
at the time of her murder?
I'm sorry, death?
I've already told you what I know.
She went on a date.
[Detective Daniels] This is the third death.
All three of them were your friends.
You mind telling me your thoughts on that?
All I know is she was a great friend.
She didn't deserve this.
Can I please go now?
How long have you guys been friends?
I did some research.
I see that you're all from LA.
Did you guys grow up knowing each other?
Obviously, you didn't do too much research
because you know I'm from Maryland,
not Los Angeles.
I met them all here in college,
so how the hell am I supposed to know?
So, was there ever any animosity
between you two or any jealousy?
Me being jealous of anyone is a total joke.
So, did you ever have any beef with Bree?
Not at all.
Bree was one of the nicest people ever.
She didn't have problems with anybody.
Like I said before,
nobody pushed her, Detective.
[laughs] Oh. So, you know what happened?
No one saw anything.
All that we know is that we heard a scream.
I called 911.
[Detective Jacobs] So, how are you sure
no one pushed her?
[Millie] How many times
do I have to tell you?
I heard a scream.
I ran out of my room and I saw her lying
at the bottom of the stairs dead.
So, no foul play from anyone?
No, sir.
Everyone that was there said the same thing.
She slipped and fell.
Now if that's all, I'd like to go home.
That's all.
You're free to go.
[suspenseful music]
[Detective Jacobs] I'm not
gonna tell you I told you so.
[Detective Daniels] Well,
how about you don't?
Let's just focus on the details.
[laughs] Okay.
So at first, Millie was my attention.
But I had my guy, Stan, look her up
and he couldn't find anything.
I mean, the girl is clean as a whistle.
And I mean, she really doesn't
have any motive or intention
to even be linked or involved
for the McCall brother murders.
And being that both Lewis and Adam's deaths
were both ruled accidental,
Millie is a dead end.
But I do feel that the level of drugs
that was found in Adam's body
was a little suspect.
Now, just think about this.
I spoke with forensics and they say
that the way that the needle
was inserted into Adam's body,
it had to be done by someone else.
Okay. So, maybe he had a friend do it
or a coach.
But it's steroids.
Anyone can OD from that crap
whether they have someone give them the shot
or they take it themselves.
And Lewis, he was drunk beyond control,
on drugs, slipped and fell,
hit his head and drowned.
There is no murder weapon,
no suspect, nothing.
The coroner said that he died
from head trauma and drowning.
But Mrs. Roberts, a broken heel,
causing her to fall down the
stairs and break her neck?
Also an accident. - How do we know that?
How do we know someone
didn't spike Lewis' punch,
jab Adam with an extra dose of steroids
and break Bree's heel,
just to make it all look like an accident?
[Detective Daniels] Okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
You are taking it way too far.
Listen to yourself, man.
You're starting to sound crazy.
Annie, I'm not crazy.
I know something is wrong.
Okay. Okay.
Say your theory is correct.
I mean, first of all,
who would wanna do this?
And secondly, how do we tie all three deaths?
I feel like we need to dig
deeper into these kids' lives
and see what we can find.
Now I know Ms. Dixon has an uncle
who owns a pizza parlor downtown.
I think we need to go see what he knows.
One way to find out.
I say we go down there.
[crickets chirping]
Felix, do we have any more dough left?
No. You saw how busy it was, man.
Of course, we don't. - Mr. Roberts?
Oh. Hey, guys, I'm sorry. We're closed, okay?
How are you doing? I'm Detective Jacobs.
This is my partner, Detective Daniels.
We need to ask you a few questions
about a young lady named Sophia.
Sure.
[Kaleb] Hey, guys.
It's nice in here, right?
Hey, babe.
Hey, babe.
Hey, Sommer.
Okay, Sophia. It's a nice spot.
Yeah. He's like my uncle.
I've known him since grade school.
He says the detective came questioning him.
And he just wanted to make sure we were safe.
Are you sure he's not just
using us to get information?
I mean, the cops could be tricking us.
There's no information to give.
And since he invited you, Sophi,
I hope that means we eat free.
Timmy, we didn't come here for free food.
Sophia. Wow.
Hey, Uncle Rob.
I can't believe you're actually here.
Thanks for inviting us.
Of course.
This place is amazing.
You know, well, it's nothing for you.
So, um, how you holding up?
Everything okay on campus?
I mean, with everything that's going on?
The detectives filled me in.
It's been kinda strange.
Three of our friends dead,
the cops snooping around.
It's just... it's so weird.
Hey, everything is on the house, okay?
I told you.
Do you guys have vegetable pizza?
I'm vegan. - We sure do.
Okay. And are you using
green products and recycling?
[laughs] We are.
And we even have gluten-free.
[Sommer] Wow. - Yeah.
See? - I like this place already.
Exactly. - [laughs]
Okay. Look,
I want you guys to enjoy the pizza.
It's great seeing everyone. All right.
You, too. - You, too.
Thank you. - All right.
Thank you. - Hey, Sophia.
Remember, if you need anything, let me know.
And be careful. - Uh-hmm.
Detectives have been
asking a lot of questions
about you and your friends.
All right. I love you, superstar.
[waiter] All right. Mr. Roberts says
that this one's on the house.
This is for you guys. - Thank you.
Of course. Can I get you guys anything else?
[Sommer] Three of us?
Come on, guys. Aren't you a little worried?
And then this Mr. Roberts dude calls Sophia
out of the blue once the cops called.
You're right.
My mother is starting to worry now too.
She wants me to come home
until everything clears up.
I don't blame her.
I just don't understand the difference
between being at home or on campus.
All I know is no one's dying at my home.
But they are on campus.
Bottom line is, I'm going home this weekend
and I'll make the decision
if I come back or not.
You all could come with me or not.
Everyone is just making
too big of a deal of this.
We need to stop worrying ourselves.
No one pushed Bree. No drugged anyone.
This is just one big coincidence.
Yeah. But we can't just sit here
and keep watching each other die.
Look, there's no mysterious coincidence.
There's no serial killer.
And there's no conspiracy theory.
Things happen.
How many times do I got to say this?
I just don't know what else to do.
I'm scared.
What if something happens to me next?
Look, nothing is gonna happen.
We're good. Just stop worrying.
I don't agree. I think someone's after us.
And I think it's better
if we all stick together.
Y'all can stay together, but I'm going home.
[Millie] Terri, please.
Can we all just stay together tonight?
We can figure this out in the morning.
[suspenseful music]
This is a nice place.
[indistinct] that, too.
[knocks on door]
Who's that?
[crickets chirping]
Who's that from?
[all] Oh.
[woman] Aw. - Kaleb is such a cutie.
So cute.
Oh, my gosh, I can't take you guys' cuteness.
Let's see what he got us, ladies.
Okay.
[woman] Perfect. - [Millie] Let's see.
I will open the card first.
Hmm.
Dear Diary, it was an accident?
[suspenseful music]
[Millie gasping]
[Sophia] It's Bree... it's Bree's heel.
[suspenseful music]
I don't know.
There was a knock at the door.
And when I answered it,
a messenger gave me the box.
Why would they send you
Bree Roberts' broken heel?
[Millie] I don't know, okay?
Why don't you ask the crazy person
who sent it to me?
Or why don't you ask Bree?
Oh, wait. She's dead!
I think that's enough for one
night, Detective.
You called me.
And it was a mistake.
Yeah.
Listen, if you guys need anything,
we're a phone call away.
Thank you, Detective.
This is crazy.
[dramatic music]
Be careful, Terri.
Well, love you, girl.
Love you.
Are you gonna be okay when I'm gone?
Yeah.
I'll be okay.
Love you. - Love you, too.
Make sure you call us as
soon as you get there, okay?
I will.
Come on, guys.
We're acting like she's not coming back.
Until this is over, I'm not.
[dramatic music]
[car engine starts]
[singer] But I believe
the way to go is up
The way to go, the way to go
I believe the way to go is up
The way to go, the way to go
[tires screeching]
[suspenseful music]
You guys.
What? - I'm sorry.
What? What happened? - What?
Pull it up.
The accident occurred at 10:47 this morning
when a car reportedly spun out of control.
What? - Terri Smith,
the daughter of respected Judge Elinor Smith,
was the driver.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
I can't believe this.
Hell no. This is too much.
You guys.
No more separating, okay?
Someone call Timmy and Kaleb
and tell them that they
need to go here right now.
It's going straight to voicemail.
Do you guys know where they are?
Last, he was at Matt's dorm or something.
I don't know.
[Millie] Let's just go to Matt's.
We need to get him.
Wait. Hold on. This is Kaleb.
I'm gonna text and tell
him just meet us at Matt's.
Come on. Let's go.
[suspenseful music]
[singer] You let me
know what to do about it
Crush it, crush it,
crush it crush it, crush it
Yo, my phone is being blown
up back to back right now.
I got to go.
All right, man.
I'll see you for practice tomorrow, right?
Yeah.
[singer] Crush it,
crush it crush it, crush it
Take it easy, my boy. Two of you.
You're faded, Timmy.
You're not driving anywhere, are you?
No. I'm walking. I'm walking.
Are you sure you're gonna be good?
[Timmy] Easy.
Be safe, Timmy.
[singer] Pull it up hard top...
Timmy.
[singer] [indistinct]
Hey, Matt. Where's Timmy?
You ain't seen him? He just left.
He said something about visiting some girl.
I don't know.
Maybe y'all can catch up with him.
Guys, let's go.
[woman] There he is, come on.
[Kaleb] Timmy.
[suspenseful music]
[woman] Timmy. - [woman] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy. - [man] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy.
[suspenseful music]
Wait, man. Stay right there.
Timmy. Timmy. - Wait!
Timmy! - [tires screeching]
Timmy, no. - Timmy.
What the hell, Kaleb?
You almost got me killed, bro.
You're on the street with headphones on, man.
Come on, man. Come on.
Okay. We just all need
to calm down and chill.
We're too paranoid.
[Sommer] Chill?
[siren wailing in the distance]
Captain.
Dead!
All of these kids are dead!
Okay. They're all dead.
But what does that have to do with anything?
Daniels and I have been doing research
via their social medias.
And from IG to Facebook,
we found out that these
kids are connected somehow.
But how is what we don't know yet.
So, how does that help
me if you don't know how?
That's the part that's suspect, sir.
But what I do know is that
there's some kind of way
that all of these kids are connected
other than social media.
They're all friends, Ray,
why wouldn't they be connected?
I'm just saying that
there's a deeper connection
than them just being college buddies.
Well, when you find the "deeper" connection,
then come back to me.
[exhales]
[siren wailing in distance]
[indistinct chatter]
[dramatic music]
Hey!
Hey.
You okay?
Yes.
I'm okay.
Be careful.
I will.
I love you.
I love you, too.
If you need anything, I'm here, okay?
Okay.
[dramatic music]
[car engine revving]
[mellow music]
[Millie] Aunt Carol?
Hey, I'm in here!
Oh, my Millie.
Aunt Carol.
Oh. Oh.
Let me look at you.
You look beautiful. - Thank you.
How's my little muffin been?
I'm good. I just... I miss you so much.
Oh, I miss you, too.
Well, these are for you.
Ooh. My favorite.
[Carol] I know. This is for me.
How was your drive here?
Long. - I'm glad you made it safely.
I cannot believe after all these years
you still never forgotten.
You know you're my favorite niece, girl.
Like my own.
I never forget.
Ooh. [sighs]
Don't you think it's a little early
for you to be drinking?
Millie, I'm grown, okay?
You can't tell me when I can drink.
It's Luke, isn't it?
Please don't bring him up.
You know that man is the devil.
I thought you guys were
working everything out
and things were gonna be fine.
I did, too, honey.
These came in the mail last week.
Divorce papers.
You know he's dating a younger woman.
I guess I just got too old for him.
You know, Teetee's stuff
ain't like it used to be.
[chuckles]
Auntie, stop.
Why would you not tell me about this
when this was still happening?
Because I didn't wanna worry you, Millie,
especially with college and everything.
I can handle this.
I got this.
Yeah, it doesn't really seem so.
Millie, this is my problem, okay?
It's not yours.
I'll be in my room.
Well, I'm happy you're back home
and you're welcome for the cookies!
Thank you!
[mellow music]
[singer] Couldn't lie I
can't find my way home
But tonight it'll be all over
When I close my eyes
Good fight, it's been
a long time coming
But tonight there'll be
no more running
I won't be losing sleep
for something temporary
Ooh, ooh, ooh
I'm alive but I feel it
in the morning
Yeah
Ooh, ooh
I'm alive but I feel it
in the morning
Yeah
Ooh, ooh
But things just ain't
the way they were
Just so many things
but they never were
I know I'm alive but I
feel it in the morning
[bottle rattling]
[ominous music]
Aunt Carol?
[sighs]
[melancholy music]
[sighs]
I should have followed my gut.
She shouldn't have been alone.
Luke, she was with the sitter.
That's alone.
It's all my fault.
Look at me.
This is no one's fault, okay?
[dramatic music]
Millie, as long as you're with us,
you'll never be alone again.
Love you, honey.
Your auntie does, too.
[ominous music]
[cabinets rattling]
Hello?
Aunt Carol?
[rattling continues]
[Millie] Hello?
[ominous music]
[staircase creaking]
[ominous music]
Go! - [screams]
[gasps]
[panting]
My diary.
[mellow music]
Hey.
So remember how we said
that it would be really good
for you to write your feelings down?
Here you go, baby girl.
[chuckles]
Thank you.
[panting]
[mellow music]
[ominous music]
[Millie] Where did you get this?
I don't know.
It was a long time ago. I can't remember.
Auntie, you're lying to me.
Please.
Please just tell me.
It's important.
Some old lady.
Like I said, it's been a long time.
Where did you even find it?
In the basement,
where you hid it.
Why would you hide this from me?
Millie, you don't need to know.
Don't tell me what I don't need to know!
Millie, you do not wanna
go back to that place.
What are you talking about?
Honey, why don't you have a
drink and just relax and...
I don't want a drink.
I want you to tell me
where you got this from.
Olga.
She made you forget.
What?
It's on the back of the diary.
There's an address.
If you want answers,
go there.
But, Millie, I'm telling you,
that dark place is not a
place you wanna go back to.
Trust me.
You don't need to go back there.
Aunt Carol, you should have
never hid this from me.
I did trust you.
And now I can't even remember my own life.
Olga can help you.
I really hope so.
Oh, God.
[sighs]
Dammit.
She's not picking up her phone.
I don't know what to do.
She should've been back by now.
Hey, don't you have her
location tagged or something?
She turned off her phone so
I don't know where she is.
She went home.
Don't you know where she lives?
Actually, I don't.
Oh.
I say we all go home, bro.
Hey, guys. What's going on?
Where's Millie? - [Kaleb] We don't know.
She's not picking up her phone.
She left earlier.
So you guys let her leave?
Nobody let her do anything.
She's a grown-ass woman and
she can do what she wants.
Like me. I'm not about to
sit around and wait to die.
I'm outta here.
Timmy, you're not going anywhere.
We can't stay here.
Come on, bro. Timmy, sit down.
Timmy, you're not going anywhere, bro.
So you're making all the rules now, right?
Maybe you're the one
killing everybody too, huh?
Should I be scared of you?
Don't come at me like that, dude.
[Channel] Guys, chill out. - Just chill.
You know that I have nothing
to do with all of this?
All I know is everybody is on this campus
is dying and I'm about to be the next.
I'm out of here, bro. - Guys, stop.
Timmy, stay put. - Timmy. Hey!
[Timmy] I'm outta here.
Wait, Kaleb. It's not even worth it.
That's weak, dude.
[dramatic music]
[wind chime tinkling]
Hello?
Hello?
Somebody home?
Hello?
Hello?
Anyone home?
[tense music]
[shotgun cocks]
[screams]
Don't you move.
Bout time you came to see me, Millie.
You know me?
Of course, I know you.
Did you bring it?
Bring what?
The reason why you drove here, I suppose.
The diary.
How did you know?
Oh, I know so much.
I've been waiting to see you.
So you know about my diary
and all the horrible things written in it?
Why do you think I have
my address on the back?
I'm the one that gave you the diary.
What are you talking about?
That's not what I remember.
There's a lot that you don't remember.
What does that mean?
That means...
there's a story that they told you,
then there's the truth.
But you can't remember any of it.
So which do you seek,
the story that you were told
or the truth?
Look, all I know is all my friends
are being killed one by one.
And I've been receiving these passages.
They're from my diary.
I need to know who's behind this
and what my diary has to do with it.
So whatever version of the story
can help me save my friends.
Well, these passages...
are your thoughts you wrote.
No.
No. But I don't remember.
And I would never write these evil things.
Oh, yes, you did.
And the reason why you don't remember
is because I made you forget.
What are you talking about?
What is happening?
[phone rings] - Oh, there she goes.
Sophia.
Millie! Where have you been?
It's me and Sommer.
[Millie] I killed everyone!
Sophia, I killed them.
Adam, Lewis, Bree, and Terri!
Wait, wait, wait.
What are you talking about?
You didn't kill anyone.
[Millie] Sophia, listen to me.
I need you guys to meet me and Kaleb
at the police station now.
Okay. - What is happening?
Let's go. I don't know. Let's go.
[man] Yes, Ms.
Grey, he's expecting you. Follow me.
So, over the phone,
you said that your diary is responsible
for your friends who died?
Yes. I wrote these very horrible things
and they all seem to be coming true.
Look, forgive me if I'm not
following this correctly but...
diaries can't kill people.
"Dear Diary.
It was an accident."
Think about it.
All the deaths were an accident, right?
Right. - Okay.
Then it has to mean something.
You said diary?
I know you don't expect me
to believe you guys, right?
Look, believe what you want
but Millie said there's some kind of link
between her diary and
all of our friends dying,
and I believe her.
Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?
Look, I know how ridiculous
it sounds but there has to be
some sort of truth to it.
The passages all add up
to what's been happening
to our friends.
The passage.
What was it trying to tell us?
What was an accident?
[sighs]
Hey. - Hey.
You okay? - Yeah. I'm okay, baby.
I promise, I am.
I'm just... I'm so happy that we're alive.
Timmy's alive. Sommer's alive.
I think we're all good.
I just...
I need some time to just go home and relax.
So I'mma catch with Soph.
Okay.
Well, if you need me, call me. - Okay.
I love you. - I love you too.
Bye.
A book killing people?
That is the craziest joke I've ever heard.
Yeah, but you know what,
there was something interesting though.
Yeah? Don't tell me you
bought into that story.
[chuckles] I'm not saying that I did,
but Millie said that there
was a passage that read,
"Dear Diary, it was an accident."
Then all of her friends
died of accidental deaths.
So what was the accident?
That is real interesting.
But we gotta let it go. It's over.
There's nothing more to it
than a bunch of students
who died from accidental deaths.
Huge coincidence,
but revisiting this will
make us look real silly.
A book. - [sighs]
Accidents.
[suspenseful music]
Bye, guys. All right. Everybody's gone.
Let's get to cleaning'.
This was so nice.
Congrats on your first year at Webber.
You killing' the game, Mills. - Aw.
None of it would be possible
if it weren't for my Kaleb.
Thank you, babe. - Of course.
I'm just so happy that
all of the terror is over
and that everything is
finally back to normal.
Amen to that.
I was up for weeks waiting to die.
[Sophia laughs] - [Kaleb] So dramatic, bro.
No, seriously though.
Probably made my therapist rich,
how many times I've seen him.
Well, here's to moving forward.
[all] To moving forward.
[glasses clinking]
[Kaleb] Got you.
Well, I'll see y'all later. - Oh.
Bye. - Bye, Channel.
Throw this away. - Get home safe, man.
Bye. Love you guys!
Thank you for coming.
[Kaleb] So you can afford a therapist?
So you could pay me that money you owe me
for the bet you lost, huh? - [Timmy] Bro.
Chill. Chill. Chill.
[Kaleb] Well, you said it.
Because you said it.
[suspenseful music]
College was so fun.
I wish I can go back. I hate my new job.
[Timmy] Tell me about it.
I'm interning for a new
film company and it sucks.
I'm making no money
and still living at home with my parents.
Okay, but at least you're
doing what you love.
And when you become a
big-time director one day,
you'll be happy. - I hate to sound
like the spoiled dude that
gets everything he wants
but I love my job.
But then again,
my dad is the owner of the company,
so I think that has something to do
with my preordained success.
[clicks tongue] Yeah.
Okay, guys.
I know you guys all love adulting,
but I still have one more
year left for college.
What are you gonna do when you graduate?
Um, literally have no idea.
But I do know that I wanna do something
that involves saving the planet, for sure.
Nothing wrong with that.
I don't know.
Maybe I'll just quit my job,
work with Timmy,
make no money at all.
[chuckles] Yo.
At least, I'm doing what
I love like Sommer said.
[tense music] - [all screams]
What the hell! - Relax.
I press this button,
the boat blows.
You can come on out, Millie.
Come on, Millie. Please. Please.
Come here. Right here. Right here.
[sobbing]
[tense music]
Barnes. A car accident.
It happened 10 years ago today.
What are you talking about, Annie?
Remember the connection you couldn't find?
The college kids? - [Detective Daniels] Yes!
That was a year ago. It's over.
The accident. I know what it meant.
I'm listening.
Eric and Tracy Barnes died in a car accident
10 years ago today.
And what does have to do with anything?
Eric and Tracy Barnes were killed
in a car accident 10 years ago today.
When they died, they left behind two kids.
And get this, one was Emilia Grey Barnes.
Millie Grey?
This can't be.
She has a brother?
Jahleel Barnes.
And where is he?
Hey, why are you doing this?
I'm Jahleel Barnes.
I'm Millie's brother.
Barnes?
What? Wait. Does that... does that name
ring a bell to you,
Kaleb Webber?
You murderer?
What is he talking about, Kaleb?
Ten years ago, today,
my parents died in a car crash.
[glass shatters]
And you, Kaleb,
you killed them.
[police radio chatter] - [knocks on door]
Hi. Can I help you?
Excuse me, ma'am,
but there's been an accident.
Oh. Okay.
Is Emilia Barnes here? - Yes, she is.
Can we speak to her please? - Of course.
Emilia. Can you come here, honey?
[Officer Brady] Hi, Emilia.
I'm Officer Brady.
Something bad has happened
to your mom and dad.
What?
What happened to them?
Are they okay?
I'm sorry but they're not okay.
[Officer Greg] Mr. and Mrs. Barnes
have both died.
Oh, my God. - [cries]
Millie, honey. I'm so sorry.
[cries]
[Jahleel] I was 18.
So when Luke and Carol,
when they adopted Millie,
they didn't want me.
I was too old, I guess.
I had to fend for myself.
Oh, Millie.
[crying]
It's okay.
You'll be okay.
Bacon?
[sighs]
Come on. Eat up.
Come on, Millie.
Millie.
It'll be okay, Carol.
Listen.
Listen, things take time.
She's going through a lot.
My baby sister did not deserve to die.
She was young.
She had her whole life in front of her.
And Millie?
I don't know what to do with her.
She won't eat and you know she won't talk.
I don't know,
but whatever happens,
we're in this together, okay?
Okay?
I love you.
Okay.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
Whoever you are, I'm gonna find you
and make you pay for what you did.
I'm sorry, Jahleel.
I don't remember you.
That's 'cause the trauma was so bad that...
Carol took you to go see Olga and Olga,
she made you forget it all.
She hypnotized you and she...
she made you forget me!
Oh, yes, you did.
And the reason why you don't remember
is because I made you forget.
What are you talking about?
Come.
Come!
Sit.
You were the daughter that I never had.
When I first got you,
you didn't talk.
You were confused and hurt
and you didn't understand
anything about death.
Why don't I remember?
Your auntie and your uncle
asked if we would hypnotize
you for your own sanity.
What? Why would they do that to me?
Because they loved you.
I remember Carol.
I begged her not to do it,
but she was so adamant.
Even a little bit desperate.
She just wanted you to get better.
And I told her that
there might be some side effects.
What kind of side effects?
Permanent memory loss.
So then why is my diary killing people?
Nonsense.
Books don't kill people.
People kill people.
So whatever answers you're looking for
in that little old book,
I'm sorry, there's no such thing
as coincidences or anything like that.
It's just a diary.
But I still don't understand.
Sometimes what's in your heart
tends to manifest in real life.
You were in a very dark place
when you got the diary,
and now your dark side
may be killing people
and leaving yourself clues.
So you're telling me that
this is just some book
and I'm the one who's
been killing my friends?
That's bullshit.
Sit down, young lady!
Now!
Yeah, maybe you could be the killer
if you were a super woman,
able to be in two places at once.
What does that even mean?
That means someone's got
a hold of your diary.
You need to find out who
before it's too late.
We gotta find this brother.
He's the one behind all of this.
Oh, my God.
I think tonight, something's gonna go down.
What makes you think that?
'Cause tonight is the 10-year anniversary
of the car accident.
You think Mr. Roberts know something?
We gotta go see.
Come on.
I don't understand.
If Kaleb killed your parents,
what does that have to
do with the rest of us?
If you have a little time, Sophie,
I could... I'd just tell you.
Please just have a seat.
I said everyone sit down!
I will blow this boat up!
[Kaleb] All right. All right.
- Please just sit.
It's a detonator to the bomb...
- All right. Okay.
...that's strapped to Millie's vest.
I'm sitting down. - Okay.
I'm sitting down.
[sighs] Okay.
So you wanted to know how
you're all involved, right?
Right, Sophia Dixon?
So your mother, Janet Dixon,
she was the chief financial officer
at Webber Tech.
The same CFO that was supposed to make sure
that my family got a hefty sum
from the accident settlement
that stole my parents from me.
Take care of that right away for me please.
Hailey?
Hailey, can you come in here for a minute?
I need you to get that to accounting ASAP.
[Jahleel] Somehow, she made it impossible
for my family to receive a penny.
Me and Millie were supposed
to be set for life.
But no, no, no,
we had to grow up with nothing.
That's true power for you.
Am I right?
[Millie] Please.
Brother, just let the past be the past.
Just forget about all of this.
You can only say that
because you don't remember
how hard the past really was.
I mean, Luke and Carol, they loved you.
Me, me on the other hand, no one.
No one loved me.
I had to grow up on the streets.
I had... I had... I had... I had to...
I had... I had to bounce around
from home to home just doing...
whatever I had to do just to survive.
[sighs]
While your father, Jonathan Barring,
he was the CEO of Webber Tech.
He hid the documents
that would've just proven
that Janet was a snake
and that she hid the money
that was supposed to go to my family
to help raise Millie and me.
[Jonathan] We don't do
business like this, Ms. Dixon.
This information gets out
and we could all go down for this.
Gentlemen, uh, can I have a
word alone with Mr. Barring?
[chuckles] John.
I know there's...
a way we can keep this matter private.
[chuckles]
And then there's...
then there's you.
Timmy.
[chuckles]
Timothy Standard.
Your father, Timothy Sr.,
he was our attorney.
He was the one that was
supposed to fight for us.
And you know what,
he was actually a really good attorney
because when we got screwed
out of all of that money,
he sued Webber Tech for $10 million
and got us the settlement,
but for some reason,
he just... he valued money
more than the principle.
And after Luke and Carol
spent everything they had
hiring your father,
instead of taking the normal attorney fees,
he took $2.5 million dollars
from Webber
to throw the trial out,
leaving my family, once again,
empty-handed.
And then there's you, Kaleb.
Just a poor little rich kid...
who wasn't happy with
his precious little life,
so...
he... to get daddy's attention,
you steal his car
and then you go joyriding.
[car engine revs]
[tire screeching]
[glass shatters]
[clatters]
[Jahleel] And then you killed my parents.
I mean, you got out of the car...
unscratched,
and you just ran!
And then because of your family's power
and their wealth,
they just swept it under the rug
and you didn't even get so
much as a slap on the wrist.
So Adam,
Lewis, Bree,
Terri?
That was you? - Yes.
Yeah.
I went to, uh...
to Carol's house...
just to visit Millie.
They didn't want me to see her...
'cause they didn't want her to remember me.
And that's when I broke into your room,
just to see you.
And that's when I found her diary.
And that's when I found my purpose.
I-I-I-I finally knew what it was
and it was just to... just to avenge you
and our... and our... and our parents.
[sighs]
So Adam and Lewis, their father, Kenneth,
he was hired by your father
to pay off the judge to throw out the trial.
Do you remember what her name was, the judge?
Anyone wanna guess?
Judge Elinor Smith.
Terri's mother. - Wow!
Great job!
Exactly!
You're so smart, Sophia.
And you know what, Millie wrote it all down
in her little diary.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
I'm a step closer to finding
the boy who took them from me.
But, today, I had a breakthrough.
The attorney Kenneth McCall
has two sons around my age.
Adam and Lewis are their names.
When the time is right,
I'll kill them
but I'll make it all look like an accident.
[panting]
[sighs] Oh, what's up, bro?
Oh, yo. What's up, man? - My bad for bumping
into you earlier, man. - No, it's all good.
I promise. Yeah, it's all good.
Man, love. - Yo, easy.
Hey, yo, you know, what's crazy, bro?
Hmm? - When you were walking up here,
I swear I saw that girl
in that Jacuzzi, when you walked by,
I swear she was checking you out, man.
[Adam] You bet she is.
[Jahleel] Yo,
I swore she was checking you out, bro.
[Adam] I don't know. - Honestly,
I think you should go talk to her.
Yeah? - [Jahleel] Yeah.
My boy. - Of course. Hey. Wait.
Hold on. Hold on. Take this.
You're gonna need that. - My man. Yes, sir.
[Jahleel] Of course.
[Adam] Ladies, what's up with y'all?
You still alive?
[suspenseful music]
[screams]
[tense music]
[groans]
[grunts]
[Jahleel] Every single one of you,
in some way, are responsible
for my parents being dead
and for me attempting suicide...
more times than I can even remember...
and growing up in therapy
because of my parents' death.
You know what?
Now I'm almost done.
So there's Adam,
and there's Lewis,
and then there's Bree.
[screams]
What was that?
Oh, my God! You guys, it Bree! Call 911!
[woman] What? - Hurry!
Oh, my God! Bree!
Whose parents,
they were eyewitnesses on the scene,
but,
of course,
they took a bribe...
to keep their mouths shut.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. And then there's Terri.
She died like my parents.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
Remember the judge that threw out our case?
Well, turns out she was paid to do so.
Good news is that she has a daughter,
Terri Smith.
This one is gonna be fun.
She should probably die like my parents did,
in a nice car crash.
And now that leaves just all of you guys.
I don't know. I just really just wanted
to save the best for last.
[car engine revs]
[tires screeches]
Uh, thank you.
Mr. Roberts,
please tell me you know
where Millie and Sophia are.
Of course, I do. They're on the Webber Yacht
for tonight's party. - Oh, my God.
No, let's go. Let's go. Let's go!
Is everything okay?
Is everything okay? - Call backup.
Have them meet us there.
- [Detective Daniels] Okay.
Why now?
That's a great question, Sommer.
Wow! Yes, because...
today 10 years ago
is the day that my parents
were stolen from me.
And...
I meticulously calculated
every little detail
on how I was gonna get my revenge.
I mean, you guys really
need to just think about it.
You all end up at the same college.
Sommer, with your grade point average,
you would've been lucky to
get to community college.
And, Sophia,
you applied to Yale
and you got in.
But I changed your application online,
so... I don't know.
I think you guys all get the point.
I made sure that you were
all at the same exact college
that Julie and Webber went to.
My dad. - Ex... bingo!
It all leads back to you, Kaleb.
So you guys...
you guys really wanna know why?
Blame Kaleb, 'cause he's the reason
that you're all gonna die tonight.
Jahleel, stop! [panting]
It doesn't have to end like this.
I'm your sister.
Why would you wanna hurt me?
[Kaleb] Hey, Jahleel.
Millie's right.
I killed your parents.
There's no reason to shed innocent blood.
Just take me. Let them go.
You don't... you don't
need to try to be a hero.
I promise you, it's...
it's really not gonna work.
Don't you wanna know why?
Why-why I picked this boat?
Why-why I picked this setting?
Why-why didn't I just-just kill you all?
I don't think anybody cares.
We just wanna fix things now.
We don't wanna die.
You know what?
Maybe you're right, brother.
You killed my parents.
Someone deserves to pay for that.
But...
these are my friends.
[scoffs]
Brother, this doesn't have to end like this.
You can leave now.
We will never say anything.
We can have the life you always wanted
as brother and sister. - No, no. Millie.
Millie, you need to... you need to really...
please just understand that...
that's never gonna happen.
I'm either gonna die here tonight
or I go to prison for the rest of my life.
I don't really have any options.
So why tonight?
Why this boat? - Okay.
Because-because-because our parents.
Our parents... our parents were
on their way to this boat.
Mom's dream was just to have...
lunch on a yacht.
[Tracy] This is gonna be amazing.
I'm so excited. The yacht, the people.
I'm so happy we're doing this.
But they never made it to the yacht
because of you, Kaleb. You killed them.
So...[chuckles] now you know why.
Please. Please! - Wait. Please stop!
[grunts]
[indistinct shouting]
[intense music]
[groans]
[indistinct shouting]
[grunting]
Just go! Just go! I'll get Kaleb.
[grunting]
Jahleel, stop!
Brother, no! No. [grunts]
[timer ticking] - [grunts]
[suspenseful music]
[grunting]
[timer ticking]
[suspenseful music]
[water splashes]
[exploding]
[dramatic music]
[sighs]
If this gets out, my entire family is ruined
and I'm going to jail.
I can't allow that to happen.
You gotta take this to the grave.
To the grave.
You think she'll ever remember anything?
The doctor said with her head injury,
she doesn't even remember her name.
Yeah, but what if one day she does remember?
We'll deal with it then.
Did they ever catch Jahleel?
I overheard some cops at the dock saying
that he died in the explosion.
Good.
[sighs]
Come on, guys. Let's get out of here.
[phone rings]
[ominous music]
Who are you?
[Olga] An old friend.
Sorry but I don't remember you.
That's why I'm here,
to help you remember.
[singer] Diving down the 101
Thinking about the way it was
It's feeling like we had our fun
Now I'm headed for the sun
I'll be your shoulder
Till this part is over
Yeah
Said I'll be your shoulder
Till this part is over
But I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
But I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
[upbeat music]
[singer] I drove by
your house the other day
Thinking 'bout the way it was
It's feeling like we're having fun
Now, I'm headed for the sun
Reaching for the stars
which I'm far from
But I believe the way to
go is how the way it go
The way it go, go, go
I believe the way to
go is how the way it go
The way to go...
[Tracy] This is gonna be amazing.
I'm so excited, the yacht, the people.
I'm so happy we're doing this.
We really need this.
Yeah, we needed it.
I needed it.
I love you so much.
I love you.
Let's go have some fun, okay?
Yeah.
Did you, uh, did you pack that bikini I like?
[crashing]
[tense music]
[theme music]
[singer] I drove by
your house the other day
I have so much I wanted to say
I know I could have
done better by you
Back when it was just us two
If I can go back
I wouldn't be as hard
I hope you know can heal past scars
I love you
You
You
I love you
You
You...
Wake up, sleeping beauty.
[grunts]
It's too early, Soph.
Are you kidding?
We have a long day ahead of us.
Wake up.
Oh, my gosh.
Soph, I cannot believe
I'm going to Webber Tech next year.
Well, believe it!
My bestie is a winner.
Just get up.
[groans] Enough.
[Sophia] Up, up, up.
Okay. - I'm a winner. I'm a winner.
I'm a winner. Okay.
- A winner and drop it low.
Drop it low. That's what we are.
[singer] We belong here
Now, baby, baby,
I know you feel so amazing, amazing
Tonight is the night
that you lose control
Like the Super Bowl go crazy
Crazy, crazy, crazy
Now free your mind, free your soul
Feel the vibe, let it go
I can take you a place
real far from home...
[squeals]
Girl, drink up.
Okay, all right. - Yeah, yeah.
Congrats to you
to being the first one out of all of us
to get a real job out of college, okay?
[Sommer] Yes, I am so proud of you.
Thank you. - Okay.
Enough congratulations to Millie.
Where are the boys?
I mean, I do love you and I'm proud of you
but I didn't come tonight just to praise you
and drink shots with my girls.
I can do that anytime I want.
Tonight, it's all about the boys.
[laughs]
I think it's time for Bree to take a shot.
Millie, stop being funny, girl,
you know I don't even drink.
Come on, just one?
I mean, it is my celebration party.
Not everyone gets a job
at Webber Tech fresh out of college.
Bree, you don't drink and you're a virgin.
What are you doing in college?
To learn. Thank you very much.
[Channel] Don't you think it's
time you clean the cobwebs
out of your garage and get a
nice big car to park inside?
Oh, girl. I mean look around.
There are plenty of Bentleys...
- [Sophia] Hmm.
...Porsches... - [Sophia] Hmm.
...and stretch limos in here tonight.
Channel, none of them are parking
in this garage tonight, okay?
Well, like, you know I'm
saving myself until marriage
and I don't intend to ever drink alcohol
because I've seen it ruined too many lives.
And... okay.
Maybe a little bit of red
wine on my wedding night
when I find Mr. Right, of course.
Right.
Well, until then...
[Bree] What?
You're still mine.
One more. - Okay.
Okay. One more. - I'd love to see that.
I'd love to see that.
Shot, shot, shot, shot, shot.
Come on. - Oh, come on.
We got to turn it.
Hit the table, ladies.
Shot o'clock.
[singer] Now baby, baby
I know you feel so amazing, amazing
Okay.
[singer] ...that you lose control
Like the Super Bowl go crazy
Crazy, crazy, crazy
Now free your mind, free your soul
Feel the vibe, let it go
I can take you to a
place real far from home
[Channel] Okay. Come on, girl.
[Bree] What is up with that?
Oh, my God.
Excuse me.
I am looking for the most
beautiful woman alive.
She's five-foot-six.
She has the most amazing body ever.
I was told I could find her over here.
You seen her? - No. I'm sorry.
I can't help you, sir.
Damn. Well then, what's your name?
You look better than her anyway.
Can you stop?
My bad, bro.
Millie, what it do, baby?
Hey.
I'm not gonna lie.
This party is fire.
Thank you.
But you know I'm still mad you
let this guy get you and not me.
Oh, come on, Lewis.
Now you know I love you way more than Kaleb.
It's just you're too
much of a bad boy for me.
Hey, what can I say, bro?
Girls love good guys.
Yeah, a'ight.
Y'all have fun with that.
I'm about to go hit this party.
Oh-oh!
Gotta love him, right?
Gotta love him.
[Lewis] Gotta love me.
So how you enjoying the celebration?
I love it.
I'm here with all my friends,
the most amazing man in the world,
and the sexiest woman alive.
Oh, stop it.
What more could a girl ask for?
My dad's boat?
I got the keys to the master suite.
Oh, you guys take as much time as you want
and I'll keep the party
live until you get back.
Ah, thanks, Sophi.
Yeah, you guys owe me big time
and bring her back safely.
Okay.
[singer] If I give you all of me
Would you give me all of you?
And if I fall over back down
Would you follow me through?
And if I wanna know
would you tell me that...
What was that for?
Thank you for all of this.
And thank your parents for me too.
What are you talking about?
Me getting a job at Webber Tech,
your family's company,
straight out of college?
No internship?
Baby, it doesn't work like that.
Webber Tech is one of the top five companies
in the marketplace.
They didn't get that far
by showing favoritism.
You being my girlfriend
has nothing to do with it.
You earned the job on your own.
They wouldn't have even looked
my way if it wasn't for you.
What are you talking about?
Come on.
I know you gave them my recommendation.
I mean, I don't even have a resume yet.
Okay.
I may have put it in a little word,
but the rest you did on your own.
Believe me when I tell you that.
You're more than qualified, Millie.
[woman screaming]
What was that? - I don't know.
Oh, my God.
What happened?
[tense music]
[Coach Michaels] You broke last year's record
by three seconds.
Cool.
Keep it up, you might just win the gold, boy.
[Adam] Yeah. - Nice job.
Well, that's the plan, Coach.
Nice job, man.
You just need to be a little...
a little faster for me,
but you're doing good, bro.
It's good to see you back, bro.
I know it's been tough.
[Adam] Oh, yeah, man.
I know it's been three months,
but it felt like it happened yesterday.
He was gonna be an attorney like our pops.
Man, he was so smart, bro.
He's nothing like me.
I guess they gave me all the athleticism
and they gave him all the smarts, right?
Nah, man.
He'd always tell me I'd
be the first Black man
to win a gold medal in
the Olympics for swimming.
I just miss him.
Look, man, if you need anything, bro,
here for you.
My family's always here.
You already know.
[Adam] I appreciate that.
Of course.
I'm here for you too, bro.
Not easy, man.
[water gushing]
[man] Adam!
Yo, Adam! Adam!
Adam.
Adam!
[dispatcher] 911, what's your emergency?
[sirens wailing]
This is crazy.
Oh, man.
Another one.
[Detective Daniels] Man.
Whoa, whoa. - What's going on, guys?
What the hell happened to Adam, bro?
That's what we're trying to figure out.
Now there's been two murders
in the matter of months
and they were brothers,
which to me seems a little suspicious.
What are you talking about suspicious?
What happened to him?
None of you or any of your friends
knew that he was taking
these drug enhancements
or any illegal substance?
No. - No, no way.
We're on the same swim
team and he's my roommate.
I never seen him take
anything as much as a Tylenol.
He was anti-drugs.
Well, according to this, he wasn't.
Maybe he just hid it well.
He was blood tested every week.
There's no way he was using.
That's interesting. - Uh-hmm.
Maybe we should talk to the coach.
Yeah. All right, take my card.
Call me if you have more information.
Hey, Coach Mike, can we have a word with you?
[Detective Daniels] After
reviewing the autopsy
on Lewis McCall?
The young man had way too much
alcohol and drugs in his system.
He blacked out,
hit his head at the back of the boat
and drowned.
So they're saying that this
is an accidental death?
Looks like it.
And then all of a sudden,
his brother ODs on enhancement drugs.
Something feels funny.
There is nothing here, Jacobs.
They were both accidents.
Soph!
What the hell?
[camera shutter]
You still think this is an accident?
You ladies have no idea
who could have done this?
Why would we?
Dear Diary, it was an accident.
Does that mean anything to anyone of you?
No.
Why don't you guys do your job
and find out why instead of asking us?
We don't know what's happening.
Listen, obviously we're just
as in a dark as you guys are.
And that's what we're trying to do here.
We're on your side, trust me.
So you walk to the bathroom while Ms.
Dixon was asleep
and you found this message on the mirror?
Yes. How many times do I
have to tell you the story?
Well, that's right.
Just gathering information.
So, neither one of you ladies heard anything.
You just slept through
someone entering your room
and leaving this message and just leaving?
It would really help us if
you could find the person
who did this and stop torturing my friends
with all these questions.
I got it, Sommer.
Listen, I don't really appreciate
the sarcasm, Detective.
My friend and I didn't hear anything.
Now this has been super
traumatic for all of us.
So if you don't have anything
else, you can leave.
You know, I think I have
everything that I need for now.
You ladies try to enjoy
the rest of your night.
Hey, Stan. How's it going, man?
Yeah, I need some information on
a Millie Gray and Sophia Dixon.
Can you check the database
and see what you can find?
All right, cool. Appreciate it.
[sighs]
[sirens wailing]
[telephone ringing]
Hey, Stan.
Tell me something good, brother.
Yeah, a photo, I can get that to you.
Okay. Cool, thanks.
Ooh.
All-nighter, huh?
Yeah.
It was something about that Millie girl
that was a little odd to me.
I-I feel like she knows
more than she's saying.
I know I'm not crazy.
Well, you look crazy
and you look like you need to rest.
Yeah, I'll rest when I can figure this out.
[Detective Daniels] There's
nothing to figure out.
[chuckles] You really need to let this go.
The two brothers died by accident.
Not a coincidence or a conspiracy,
but an accident.
Yeah, but I mean, if it was an accident,
the fact in this teeny tiny dorm room,
somebody was able to sneak in
and fully write a message on the mirror,
neither of the girls heard anything,
I mean, come on, Daniels, it's fishy.
Well...
maybe you're right.
Have you checked on these ladies?
What do you think I've been doing all night?
Give it some time.
It could just be a college prank.
Or it could all be connected.
We'll find out soon enough.
Whoo.
[dramatic music]
[sighs]
[suspenseful music]
[crickets chirping]
Amazing. - [laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
[footsteps approaching] - [woman] Oh.
How do I look? - You look good,
like the Black beautiful
goddess that you are.
More like you just stole my outfit.
I mean, it's just dinner, not the Grammys.
Channel, you were the one that told me
I needed to look more sexy.
Looks to me like you're trying
to get you a new man. - [Sommer] Uh-hmm.
Well, he is a lawyer. - [woman] Oh.
[Sommer] Okay, a big shot attorney?
He sounds like a keeper.
Jackpot girl. - Uh-hmm.
Right.
Well, I'll see you later tonight.
Don't wait up for me. - [Terri] We won't.
[woman] What? Uh-uh. - [laughter]
Hanky-panky. - Yeah. She said
don't wait up for her. - Oh.
[indistinct chatter] - That's not Bree.
That's not Bree.
Who's that?
[suspenseful music]
[Bree screams] - Oh, my God.
That was Bree. Call 911.
Hurry!
[Bree screams]
[suspenseful music]
Oh, my God, Bree!
[suspenseful music]
[Terri gasps]
[Detective Daniels] So, no one was with Bree
at the time of her murder?
I'm sorry, death?
I've already told you what I know.
She went on a date.
[Detective Daniels] This is the third death.
All three of them were your friends.
You mind telling me your thoughts on that?
All I know is she was a great friend.
She didn't deserve this.
Can I please go now?
How long have you guys been friends?
I did some research.
I see that you're all from LA.
Did you guys grow up knowing each other?
Obviously, you didn't do too much research
because you know I'm from Maryland,
not Los Angeles.
I met them all here in college,
so how the hell am I supposed to know?
So, was there ever any animosity
between you two or any jealousy?
Me being jealous of anyone is a total joke.
So, did you ever have any beef with Bree?
Not at all.
Bree was one of the nicest people ever.
She didn't have problems with anybody.
Like I said before,
nobody pushed her, Detective.
[laughs] Oh. So, you know what happened?
No one saw anything.
All that we know is that we heard a scream.
I called 911.
[Detective Jacobs] So, how are you sure
no one pushed her?
[Millie] How many times
do I have to tell you?
I heard a scream.
I ran out of my room and I saw her lying
at the bottom of the stairs dead.
So, no foul play from anyone?
No, sir.
Everyone that was there said the same thing.
She slipped and fell.
Now if that's all, I'd like to go home.
That's all.
You're free to go.
[suspenseful music]
[Detective Jacobs] I'm not
gonna tell you I told you so.
[Detective Daniels] Well,
how about you don't?
Let's just focus on the details.
[laughs] Okay.
So at first, Millie was my attention.
But I had my guy, Stan, look her up
and he couldn't find anything.
I mean, the girl is clean as a whistle.
And I mean, she really doesn't
have any motive or intention
to even be linked or involved
for the McCall brother murders.
And being that both Lewis and Adam's deaths
were both ruled accidental,
Millie is a dead end.
But I do feel that the level of drugs
that was found in Adam's body
was a little suspect.
Now, just think about this.
I spoke with forensics and they say
that the way that the needle
was inserted into Adam's body,
it had to be done by someone else.
Okay. So, maybe he had a friend do it
or a coach.
But it's steroids.
Anyone can OD from that crap
whether they have someone give them the shot
or they take it themselves.
And Lewis, he was drunk beyond control,
on drugs, slipped and fell,
hit his head and drowned.
There is no murder weapon,
no suspect, nothing.
The coroner said that he died
from head trauma and drowning.
But Mrs. Roberts, a broken heel,
causing her to fall down the
stairs and break her neck?
Also an accident. - How do we know that?
How do we know someone
didn't spike Lewis' punch,
jab Adam with an extra dose of steroids
and break Bree's heel,
just to make it all look like an accident?
[Detective Daniels] Okay. Whoa, whoa, whoa.
You are taking it way too far.
Listen to yourself, man.
You're starting to sound crazy.
Annie, I'm not crazy.
I know something is wrong.
Okay. Okay.
Say your theory is correct.
I mean, first of all,
who would wanna do this?
And secondly, how do we tie all three deaths?
I feel like we need to dig
deeper into these kids' lives
and see what we can find.
Now I know Ms. Dixon has an uncle
who owns a pizza parlor downtown.
I think we need to go see what he knows.
One way to find out.
I say we go down there.
[crickets chirping]
Felix, do we have any more dough left?
No. You saw how busy it was, man.
Of course, we don't. - Mr. Roberts?
Oh. Hey, guys, I'm sorry. We're closed, okay?
How are you doing? I'm Detective Jacobs.
This is my partner, Detective Daniels.
We need to ask you a few questions
about a young lady named Sophia.
Sure.
[Kaleb] Hey, guys.
It's nice in here, right?
Hey, babe.
Hey, babe.
Hey, Sommer.
Okay, Sophia. It's a nice spot.
Yeah. He's like my uncle.
I've known him since grade school.
He says the detective came questioning him.
And he just wanted to make sure we were safe.
Are you sure he's not just
using us to get information?
I mean, the cops could be tricking us.
There's no information to give.
And since he invited you, Sophi,
I hope that means we eat free.
Timmy, we didn't come here for free food.
Sophia. Wow.
Hey, Uncle Rob.
I can't believe you're actually here.
Thanks for inviting us.
Of course.
This place is amazing.
You know, well, it's nothing for you.
So, um, how you holding up?
Everything okay on campus?
I mean, with everything that's going on?
The detectives filled me in.
It's been kinda strange.
Three of our friends dead,
the cops snooping around.
It's just... it's so weird.
Hey, everything is on the house, okay?
I told you.
Do you guys have vegetable pizza?
I'm vegan. - We sure do.
Okay. And are you using
green products and recycling?
[laughs] We are.
And we even have gluten-free.
[Sommer] Wow. - Yeah.
See? - I like this place already.
Exactly. - [laughs]
Okay. Look,
I want you guys to enjoy the pizza.
It's great seeing everyone. All right.
You, too. - You, too.
Thank you. - All right.
Thank you. - Hey, Sophia.
Remember, if you need anything, let me know.
And be careful. - Uh-hmm.
Detectives have been
asking a lot of questions
about you and your friends.
All right. I love you, superstar.
[waiter] All right. Mr. Roberts says
that this one's on the house.
This is for you guys. - Thank you.
Of course. Can I get you guys anything else?
[Sommer] Three of us?
Come on, guys. Aren't you a little worried?
And then this Mr. Roberts dude calls Sophia
out of the blue once the cops called.
You're right.
My mother is starting to worry now too.
She wants me to come home
until everything clears up.
I don't blame her.
I just don't understand the difference
between being at home or on campus.
All I know is no one's dying at my home.
But they are on campus.
Bottom line is, I'm going home this weekend
and I'll make the decision
if I come back or not.
You all could come with me or not.
Everyone is just making
too big of a deal of this.
We need to stop worrying ourselves.
No one pushed Bree. No drugged anyone.
This is just one big coincidence.
Yeah. But we can't just sit here
and keep watching each other die.
Look, there's no mysterious coincidence.
There's no serial killer.
And there's no conspiracy theory.
Things happen.
How many times do I got to say this?
I just don't know what else to do.
I'm scared.
What if something happens to me next?
Look, nothing is gonna happen.
We're good. Just stop worrying.
I don't agree. I think someone's after us.
And I think it's better
if we all stick together.
Y'all can stay together, but I'm going home.
[Millie] Terri, please.
Can we all just stay together tonight?
We can figure this out in the morning.
[suspenseful music]
This is a nice place.
[indistinct] that, too.
[knocks on door]
Who's that?
[crickets chirping]
Who's that from?
[all] Oh.
[woman] Aw. - Kaleb is such a cutie.
So cute.
Oh, my gosh, I can't take you guys' cuteness.
Let's see what he got us, ladies.
Okay.
[woman] Perfect. - [Millie] Let's see.
I will open the card first.
Hmm.
Dear Diary, it was an accident?
[suspenseful music]
[Millie gasping]
[Sophia] It's Bree... it's Bree's heel.
[suspenseful music]
I don't know.
There was a knock at the door.
And when I answered it,
a messenger gave me the box.
Why would they send you
Bree Roberts' broken heel?
[Millie] I don't know, okay?
Why don't you ask the crazy person
who sent it to me?
Or why don't you ask Bree?
Oh, wait. She's dead!
I think that's enough for one
night, Detective.
You called me.
And it was a mistake.
Yeah.
Listen, if you guys need anything,
we're a phone call away.
Thank you, Detective.
This is crazy.
[dramatic music]
Be careful, Terri.
Well, love you, girl.
Love you.
Are you gonna be okay when I'm gone?
Yeah.
I'll be okay.
Love you. - Love you, too.
Make sure you call us as
soon as you get there, okay?
I will.
Come on, guys.
We're acting like she's not coming back.
Until this is over, I'm not.
[dramatic music]
[car engine starts]
[singer] But I believe
the way to go is up
The way to go, the way to go
I believe the way to go is up
The way to go, the way to go
[tires screeching]
[suspenseful music]
You guys.
What? - I'm sorry.
What? What happened? - What?
Pull it up.
The accident occurred at 10:47 this morning
when a car reportedly spun out of control.
What? - Terri Smith,
the daughter of respected Judge Elinor Smith,
was the driver.
She was pronounced dead on the scene.
I can't believe this.
Hell no. This is too much.
You guys.
No more separating, okay?
Someone call Timmy and Kaleb
and tell them that they
need to go here right now.
It's going straight to voicemail.
Do you guys know where they are?
Last, he was at Matt's dorm or something.
I don't know.
[Millie] Let's just go to Matt's.
We need to get him.
Wait. Hold on. This is Kaleb.
I'm gonna text and tell
him just meet us at Matt's.
Come on. Let's go.
[suspenseful music]
[singer] You let me
know what to do about it
Crush it, crush it,
crush it crush it, crush it
Yo, my phone is being blown
up back to back right now.
I got to go.
All right, man.
I'll see you for practice tomorrow, right?
Yeah.
[singer] Crush it,
crush it crush it, crush it
Take it easy, my boy. Two of you.
You're faded, Timmy.
You're not driving anywhere, are you?
No. I'm walking. I'm walking.
Are you sure you're gonna be good?
[Timmy] Easy.
Be safe, Timmy.
[singer] Pull it up hard top...
Timmy.
[singer] [indistinct]
Hey, Matt. Where's Timmy?
You ain't seen him? He just left.
He said something about visiting some girl.
I don't know.
Maybe y'all can catch up with him.
Guys, let's go.
[woman] There he is, come on.
[Kaleb] Timmy.
[suspenseful music]
[woman] Timmy. - [woman] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy. - [man] Timmy.
[woman] Timmy.
[suspenseful music]
Wait, man. Stay right there.
Timmy. Timmy. - Wait!
Timmy! - [tires screeching]
Timmy, no. - Timmy.
What the hell, Kaleb?
You almost got me killed, bro.
You're on the street with headphones on, man.
Come on, man. Come on.
Okay. We just all need
to calm down and chill.
We're too paranoid.
[Sommer] Chill?
[siren wailing in the distance]
Captain.
Dead!
All of these kids are dead!
Okay. They're all dead.
But what does that have to do with anything?
Daniels and I have been doing research
via their social medias.
And from IG to Facebook,
we found out that these
kids are connected somehow.
But how is what we don't know yet.
So, how does that help
me if you don't know how?
That's the part that's suspect, sir.
But what I do know is that
there's some kind of way
that all of these kids are connected
other than social media.
They're all friends, Ray,
why wouldn't they be connected?
I'm just saying that
there's a deeper connection
than them just being college buddies.
Well, when you find the "deeper" connection,
then come back to me.
[exhales]
[siren wailing in distance]
[indistinct chatter]
[dramatic music]
Hey!
Hey.
You okay?
Yes.
I'm okay.
Be careful.
I will.
I love you.
I love you, too.
If you need anything, I'm here, okay?
Okay.
[dramatic music]
[car engine revving]
[mellow music]
[Millie] Aunt Carol?
Hey, I'm in here!
Oh, my Millie.
Aunt Carol.
Oh. Oh.
Let me look at you.
You look beautiful. - Thank you.
How's my little muffin been?
I'm good. I just... I miss you so much.
Oh, I miss you, too.
Well, these are for you.
Ooh. My favorite.
[Carol] I know. This is for me.
How was your drive here?
Long. - I'm glad you made it safely.
I cannot believe after all these years
you still never forgotten.
You know you're my favorite niece, girl.
Like my own.
I never forget.
Ooh. [sighs]
Don't you think it's a little early
for you to be drinking?
Millie, I'm grown, okay?
You can't tell me when I can drink.
It's Luke, isn't it?
Please don't bring him up.
You know that man is the devil.
I thought you guys were
working everything out
and things were gonna be fine.
I did, too, honey.
These came in the mail last week.
Divorce papers.
You know he's dating a younger woman.
I guess I just got too old for him.
You know, Teetee's stuff
ain't like it used to be.
[chuckles]
Auntie, stop.
Why would you not tell me about this
when this was still happening?
Because I didn't wanna worry you, Millie,
especially with college and everything.
I can handle this.
I got this.
Yeah, it doesn't really seem so.
Millie, this is my problem, okay?
It's not yours.
I'll be in my room.
Well, I'm happy you're back home
and you're welcome for the cookies!
Thank you!
[mellow music]
[singer] Couldn't lie I
can't find my way home
But tonight it'll be all over
When I close my eyes
Good fight, it's been
a long time coming
But tonight there'll be
no more running
I won't be losing sleep
for something temporary
Ooh, ooh, ooh
I'm alive but I feel it
in the morning
Yeah
Ooh, ooh
I'm alive but I feel it
in the morning
Yeah
Ooh, ooh
But things just ain't
the way they were
Just so many things
but they never were
I know I'm alive but I
feel it in the morning
[bottle rattling]
[ominous music]
Aunt Carol?
[sighs]
[melancholy music]
[sighs]
I should have followed my gut.
She shouldn't have been alone.
Luke, she was with the sitter.
That's alone.
It's all my fault.
Look at me.
This is no one's fault, okay?
[dramatic music]
Millie, as long as you're with us,
you'll never be alone again.
Love you, honey.
Your auntie does, too.
[ominous music]
[cabinets rattling]
Hello?
Aunt Carol?
[rattling continues]
[Millie] Hello?
[ominous music]
[staircase creaking]
[ominous music]
Go! - [screams]
[gasps]
[panting]
My diary.
[mellow music]
Hey.
So remember how we said
that it would be really good
for you to write your feelings down?
Here you go, baby girl.
[chuckles]
Thank you.
[panting]
[mellow music]
[ominous music]
[Millie] Where did you get this?
I don't know.
It was a long time ago. I can't remember.
Auntie, you're lying to me.
Please.
Please just tell me.
It's important.
Some old lady.
Like I said, it's been a long time.
Where did you even find it?
In the basement,
where you hid it.
Why would you hide this from me?
Millie, you don't need to know.
Don't tell me what I don't need to know!
Millie, you do not wanna
go back to that place.
What are you talking about?
Honey, why don't you have a
drink and just relax and...
I don't want a drink.
I want you to tell me
where you got this from.
Olga.
She made you forget.
What?
It's on the back of the diary.
There's an address.
If you want answers,
go there.
But, Millie, I'm telling you,
that dark place is not a
place you wanna go back to.
Trust me.
You don't need to go back there.
Aunt Carol, you should have
never hid this from me.
I did trust you.
And now I can't even remember my own life.
Olga can help you.
I really hope so.
Oh, God.
[sighs]
Dammit.
She's not picking up her phone.
I don't know what to do.
She should've been back by now.
Hey, don't you have her
location tagged or something?
She turned off her phone so
I don't know where she is.
She went home.
Don't you know where she lives?
Actually, I don't.
Oh.
I say we all go home, bro.
Hey, guys. What's going on?
Where's Millie? - [Kaleb] We don't know.
She's not picking up her phone.
She left earlier.
So you guys let her leave?
Nobody let her do anything.
She's a grown-ass woman and
she can do what she wants.
Like me. I'm not about to
sit around and wait to die.
I'm outta here.
Timmy, you're not going anywhere.
We can't stay here.
Come on, bro. Timmy, sit down.
Timmy, you're not going anywhere, bro.
So you're making all the rules now, right?
Maybe you're the one
killing everybody too, huh?
Should I be scared of you?
Don't come at me like that, dude.
[Channel] Guys, chill out. - Just chill.
You know that I have nothing
to do with all of this?
All I know is everybody is on this campus
is dying and I'm about to be the next.
I'm out of here, bro. - Guys, stop.
Timmy, stay put. - Timmy. Hey!
[Timmy] I'm outta here.
Wait, Kaleb. It's not even worth it.
That's weak, dude.
[dramatic music]
[wind chime tinkling]
Hello?
Hello?
Somebody home?
Hello?
Hello?
Anyone home?
[tense music]
[shotgun cocks]
[screams]
Don't you move.
Bout time you came to see me, Millie.
You know me?
Of course, I know you.
Did you bring it?
Bring what?
The reason why you drove here, I suppose.
The diary.
How did you know?
Oh, I know so much.
I've been waiting to see you.
So you know about my diary
and all the horrible things written in it?
Why do you think I have
my address on the back?
I'm the one that gave you the diary.
What are you talking about?
That's not what I remember.
There's a lot that you don't remember.
What does that mean?
That means...
there's a story that they told you,
then there's the truth.
But you can't remember any of it.
So which do you seek,
the story that you were told
or the truth?
Look, all I know is all my friends
are being killed one by one.
And I've been receiving these passages.
They're from my diary.
I need to know who's behind this
and what my diary has to do with it.
So whatever version of the story
can help me save my friends.
Well, these passages...
are your thoughts you wrote.
No.
No. But I don't remember.
And I would never write these evil things.
Oh, yes, you did.
And the reason why you don't remember
is because I made you forget.
What are you talking about?
What is happening?
[phone rings] - Oh, there she goes.
Sophia.
Millie! Where have you been?
It's me and Sommer.
[Millie] I killed everyone!
Sophia, I killed them.
Adam, Lewis, Bree, and Terri!
Wait, wait, wait.
What are you talking about?
You didn't kill anyone.
[Millie] Sophia, listen to me.
I need you guys to meet me and Kaleb
at the police station now.
Okay. - What is happening?
Let's go. I don't know. Let's go.
[man] Yes, Ms.
Grey, he's expecting you. Follow me.
So, over the phone,
you said that your diary is responsible
for your friends who died?
Yes. I wrote these very horrible things
and they all seem to be coming true.
Look, forgive me if I'm not
following this correctly but...
diaries can't kill people.
"Dear Diary.
It was an accident."
Think about it.
All the deaths were an accident, right?
Right. - Okay.
Then it has to mean something.
You said diary?
I know you don't expect me
to believe you guys, right?
Look, believe what you want
but Millie said there's some kind of link
between her diary and
all of our friends dying,
and I believe her.
Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?
Look, I know how ridiculous
it sounds but there has to be
some sort of truth to it.
The passages all add up
to what's been happening
to our friends.
The passage.
What was it trying to tell us?
What was an accident?
[sighs]
Hey. - Hey.
You okay? - Yeah. I'm okay, baby.
I promise, I am.
I'm just... I'm so happy that we're alive.
Timmy's alive. Sommer's alive.
I think we're all good.
I just...
I need some time to just go home and relax.
So I'mma catch with Soph.
Okay.
Well, if you need me, call me. - Okay.
I love you. - I love you too.
Bye.
A book killing people?
That is the craziest joke I've ever heard.
Yeah, but you know what,
there was something interesting though.
Yeah? Don't tell me you
bought into that story.
[chuckles] I'm not saying that I did,
but Millie said that there
was a passage that read,
"Dear Diary, it was an accident."
Then all of her friends
died of accidental deaths.
So what was the accident?
That is real interesting.
But we gotta let it go. It's over.
There's nothing more to it
than a bunch of students
who died from accidental deaths.
Huge coincidence,
but revisiting this will
make us look real silly.
A book. - [sighs]
Accidents.
[suspenseful music]
Bye, guys. All right. Everybody's gone.
Let's get to cleaning'.
This was so nice.
Congrats on your first year at Webber.
You killing' the game, Mills. - Aw.
None of it would be possible
if it weren't for my Kaleb.
Thank you, babe. - Of course.
I'm just so happy that
all of the terror is over
and that everything is
finally back to normal.
Amen to that.
I was up for weeks waiting to die.
[Sophia laughs] - [Kaleb] So dramatic, bro.
No, seriously though.
Probably made my therapist rich,
how many times I've seen him.
Well, here's to moving forward.
[all] To moving forward.
[glasses clinking]
[Kaleb] Got you.
Well, I'll see y'all later. - Oh.
Bye. - Bye, Channel.
Throw this away. - Get home safe, man.
Bye. Love you guys!
Thank you for coming.
[Kaleb] So you can afford a therapist?
So you could pay me that money you owe me
for the bet you lost, huh? - [Timmy] Bro.
Chill. Chill. Chill.
[Kaleb] Well, you said it.
Because you said it.
[suspenseful music]
College was so fun.
I wish I can go back. I hate my new job.
[Timmy] Tell me about it.
I'm interning for a new
film company and it sucks.
I'm making no money
and still living at home with my parents.
Okay, but at least you're
doing what you love.
And when you become a
big-time director one day,
you'll be happy. - I hate to sound
like the spoiled dude that
gets everything he wants
but I love my job.
But then again,
my dad is the owner of the company,
so I think that has something to do
with my preordained success.
[clicks tongue] Yeah.
Okay, guys.
I know you guys all love adulting,
but I still have one more
year left for college.
What are you gonna do when you graduate?
Um, literally have no idea.
But I do know that I wanna do something
that involves saving the planet, for sure.
Nothing wrong with that.
I don't know.
Maybe I'll just quit my job,
work with Timmy,
make no money at all.
[chuckles] Yo.
At least, I'm doing what
I love like Sommer said.
[tense music] - [all screams]
What the hell! - Relax.
I press this button,
the boat blows.
You can come on out, Millie.
Come on, Millie. Please. Please.
Come here. Right here. Right here.
[sobbing]
[tense music]
Barnes. A car accident.
It happened 10 years ago today.
What are you talking about, Annie?
Remember the connection you couldn't find?
The college kids? - [Detective Daniels] Yes!
That was a year ago. It's over.
The accident. I know what it meant.
I'm listening.
Eric and Tracy Barnes died in a car accident
10 years ago today.
And what does have to do with anything?
Eric and Tracy Barnes were killed
in a car accident 10 years ago today.
When they died, they left behind two kids.
And get this, one was Emilia Grey Barnes.
Millie Grey?
This can't be.
She has a brother?
Jahleel Barnes.
And where is he?
Hey, why are you doing this?
I'm Jahleel Barnes.
I'm Millie's brother.
Barnes?
What? Wait. Does that... does that name
ring a bell to you,
Kaleb Webber?
You murderer?
What is he talking about, Kaleb?
Ten years ago, today,
my parents died in a car crash.
[glass shatters]
And you, Kaleb,
you killed them.
[police radio chatter] - [knocks on door]
Hi. Can I help you?
Excuse me, ma'am,
but there's been an accident.
Oh. Okay.
Is Emilia Barnes here? - Yes, she is.
Can we speak to her please? - Of course.
Emilia. Can you come here, honey?
[Officer Brady] Hi, Emilia.
I'm Officer Brady.
Something bad has happened
to your mom and dad.
What?
What happened to them?
Are they okay?
I'm sorry but they're not okay.
[Officer Greg] Mr. and Mrs. Barnes
have both died.
Oh, my God. - [cries]
Millie, honey. I'm so sorry.
[cries]
[Jahleel] I was 18.
So when Luke and Carol,
when they adopted Millie,
they didn't want me.
I was too old, I guess.
I had to fend for myself.
Oh, Millie.
[crying]
It's okay.
You'll be okay.
Bacon?
[sighs]
Come on. Eat up.
Come on, Millie.
Millie.
It'll be okay, Carol.
Listen.
Listen, things take time.
She's going through a lot.
My baby sister did not deserve to die.
She was young.
She had her whole life in front of her.
And Millie?
I don't know what to do with her.
She won't eat and you know she won't talk.
I don't know,
but whatever happens,
we're in this together, okay?
Okay?
I love you.
Okay.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
Whoever you are, I'm gonna find you
and make you pay for what you did.
I'm sorry, Jahleel.
I don't remember you.
That's 'cause the trauma was so bad that...
Carol took you to go see Olga and Olga,
she made you forget it all.
She hypnotized you and she...
she made you forget me!
Oh, yes, you did.
And the reason why you don't remember
is because I made you forget.
What are you talking about?
Come.
Come!
Sit.
You were the daughter that I never had.
When I first got you,
you didn't talk.
You were confused and hurt
and you didn't understand
anything about death.
Why don't I remember?
Your auntie and your uncle
asked if we would hypnotize
you for your own sanity.
What? Why would they do that to me?
Because they loved you.
I remember Carol.
I begged her not to do it,
but she was so adamant.
Even a little bit desperate.
She just wanted you to get better.
And I told her that
there might be some side effects.
What kind of side effects?
Permanent memory loss.
So then why is my diary killing people?
Nonsense.
Books don't kill people.
People kill people.
So whatever answers you're looking for
in that little old book,
I'm sorry, there's no such thing
as coincidences or anything like that.
It's just a diary.
But I still don't understand.
Sometimes what's in your heart
tends to manifest in real life.
You were in a very dark place
when you got the diary,
and now your dark side
may be killing people
and leaving yourself clues.
So you're telling me that
this is just some book
and I'm the one who's
been killing my friends?
That's bullshit.
Sit down, young lady!
Now!
Yeah, maybe you could be the killer
if you were a super woman,
able to be in two places at once.
What does that even mean?
That means someone's got
a hold of your diary.
You need to find out who
before it's too late.
We gotta find this brother.
He's the one behind all of this.
Oh, my God.
I think tonight, something's gonna go down.
What makes you think that?
'Cause tonight is the 10-year anniversary
of the car accident.
You think Mr. Roberts know something?
We gotta go see.
Come on.
I don't understand.
If Kaleb killed your parents,
what does that have to
do with the rest of us?
If you have a little time, Sophie,
I could... I'd just tell you.
Please just have a seat.
I said everyone sit down!
I will blow this boat up!
[Kaleb] All right. All right.
- Please just sit.
It's a detonator to the bomb...
- All right. Okay.
...that's strapped to Millie's vest.
I'm sitting down. - Okay.
I'm sitting down.
[sighs] Okay.
So you wanted to know how
you're all involved, right?
Right, Sophia Dixon?
So your mother, Janet Dixon,
she was the chief financial officer
at Webber Tech.
The same CFO that was supposed to make sure
that my family got a hefty sum
from the accident settlement
that stole my parents from me.
Take care of that right away for me please.
Hailey?
Hailey, can you come in here for a minute?
I need you to get that to accounting ASAP.
[Jahleel] Somehow, she made it impossible
for my family to receive a penny.
Me and Millie were supposed
to be set for life.
But no, no, no,
we had to grow up with nothing.
That's true power for you.
Am I right?
[Millie] Please.
Brother, just let the past be the past.
Just forget about all of this.
You can only say that
because you don't remember
how hard the past really was.
I mean, Luke and Carol, they loved you.
Me, me on the other hand, no one.
No one loved me.
I had to grow up on the streets.
I had... I had... I had... I had to...
I had... I had to bounce around
from home to home just doing...
whatever I had to do just to survive.
[sighs]
While your father, Jonathan Barring,
he was the CEO of Webber Tech.
He hid the documents
that would've just proven
that Janet was a snake
and that she hid the money
that was supposed to go to my family
to help raise Millie and me.
[Jonathan] We don't do
business like this, Ms. Dixon.
This information gets out
and we could all go down for this.
Gentlemen, uh, can I have a
word alone with Mr. Barring?
[chuckles] John.
I know there's...
a way we can keep this matter private.
[chuckles]
And then there's...
then there's you.
Timmy.
[chuckles]
Timothy Standard.
Your father, Timothy Sr.,
he was our attorney.
He was the one that was
supposed to fight for us.
And you know what,
he was actually a really good attorney
because when we got screwed
out of all of that money,
he sued Webber Tech for $10 million
and got us the settlement,
but for some reason,
he just... he valued money
more than the principle.
And after Luke and Carol
spent everything they had
hiring your father,
instead of taking the normal attorney fees,
he took $2.5 million dollars
from Webber
to throw the trial out,
leaving my family, once again,
empty-handed.
And then there's you, Kaleb.
Just a poor little rich kid...
who wasn't happy with
his precious little life,
so...
he... to get daddy's attention,
you steal his car
and then you go joyriding.
[car engine revs]
[tire screeching]
[glass shatters]
[clatters]
[Jahleel] And then you killed my parents.
I mean, you got out of the car...
unscratched,
and you just ran!
And then because of your family's power
and their wealth,
they just swept it under the rug
and you didn't even get so
much as a slap on the wrist.
So Adam,
Lewis, Bree,
Terri?
That was you? - Yes.
Yeah.
I went to, uh...
to Carol's house...
just to visit Millie.
They didn't want me to see her...
'cause they didn't want her to remember me.
And that's when I broke into your room,
just to see you.
And that's when I found her diary.
And that's when I found my purpose.
I-I-I-I finally knew what it was
and it was just to... just to avenge you
and our... and our... and our parents.
[sighs]
So Adam and Lewis, their father, Kenneth,
he was hired by your father
to pay off the judge to throw out the trial.
Do you remember what her name was, the judge?
Anyone wanna guess?
Judge Elinor Smith.
Terri's mother. - Wow!
Great job!
Exactly!
You're so smart, Sophia.
And you know what, Millie wrote it all down
in her little diary.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
I'm a step closer to finding
the boy who took them from me.
But, today, I had a breakthrough.
The attorney Kenneth McCall
has two sons around my age.
Adam and Lewis are their names.
When the time is right,
I'll kill them
but I'll make it all look like an accident.
[panting]
[sighs] Oh, what's up, bro?
Oh, yo. What's up, man? - My bad for bumping
into you earlier, man. - No, it's all good.
I promise. Yeah, it's all good.
Man, love. - Yo, easy.
Hey, yo, you know, what's crazy, bro?
Hmm? - When you were walking up here,
I swear I saw that girl
in that Jacuzzi, when you walked by,
I swear she was checking you out, man.
[Adam] You bet she is.
[Jahleel] Yo,
I swore she was checking you out, bro.
[Adam] I don't know. - Honestly,
I think you should go talk to her.
Yeah? - [Jahleel] Yeah.
My boy. - Of course. Hey. Wait.
Hold on. Hold on. Take this.
You're gonna need that. - My man. Yes, sir.
[Jahleel] Of course.
[Adam] Ladies, what's up with y'all?
You still alive?
[suspenseful music]
[screams]
[tense music]
[groans]
[grunts]
[Jahleel] Every single one of you,
in some way, are responsible
for my parents being dead
and for me attempting suicide...
more times than I can even remember...
and growing up in therapy
because of my parents' death.
You know what?
Now I'm almost done.
So there's Adam,
and there's Lewis,
and then there's Bree.
[screams]
What was that?
Oh, my God! You guys, it Bree! Call 911!
[woman] What? - Hurry!
Oh, my God! Bree!
Whose parents,
they were eyewitnesses on the scene,
but,
of course,
they took a bribe...
to keep their mouths shut.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. And then there's Terri.
She died like my parents.
[Young Millie] Dear Diary,
who killed my parents?
Remember the judge that threw out our case?
Well, turns out she was paid to do so.
Good news is that she has a daughter,
Terri Smith.
This one is gonna be fun.
She should probably die like my parents did,
in a nice car crash.
And now that leaves just all of you guys.
I don't know. I just really just wanted
to save the best for last.
[car engine revs]
[tires screeches]
Uh, thank you.
Mr. Roberts,
please tell me you know
where Millie and Sophia are.
Of course, I do. They're on the Webber Yacht
for tonight's party. - Oh, my God.
No, let's go. Let's go. Let's go!
Is everything okay?
Is everything okay? - Call backup.
Have them meet us there.
- [Detective Daniels] Okay.
Why now?
That's a great question, Sommer.
Wow! Yes, because...
today 10 years ago
is the day that my parents
were stolen from me.
And...
I meticulously calculated
every little detail
on how I was gonna get my revenge.
I mean, you guys really
need to just think about it.
You all end up at the same college.
Sommer, with your grade point average,
you would've been lucky to
get to community college.
And, Sophia,
you applied to Yale
and you got in.
But I changed your application online,
so... I don't know.
I think you guys all get the point.
I made sure that you were
all at the same exact college
that Julie and Webber went to.
My dad. - Ex... bingo!
It all leads back to you, Kaleb.
So you guys...
you guys really wanna know why?
Blame Kaleb, 'cause he's the reason
that you're all gonna die tonight.
Jahleel, stop! [panting]
It doesn't have to end like this.
I'm your sister.
Why would you wanna hurt me?
[Kaleb] Hey, Jahleel.
Millie's right.
I killed your parents.
There's no reason to shed innocent blood.
Just take me. Let them go.
You don't... you don't
need to try to be a hero.
I promise you, it's...
it's really not gonna work.
Don't you wanna know why?
Why-why I picked this boat?
Why-why I picked this setting?
Why-why didn't I just-just kill you all?
I don't think anybody cares.
We just wanna fix things now.
We don't wanna die.
You know what?
Maybe you're right, brother.
You killed my parents.
Someone deserves to pay for that.
But...
these are my friends.
[scoffs]
Brother, this doesn't have to end like this.
You can leave now.
We will never say anything.
We can have the life you always wanted
as brother and sister. - No, no. Millie.
Millie, you need to... you need to really...
please just understand that...
that's never gonna happen.
I'm either gonna die here tonight
or I go to prison for the rest of my life.
I don't really have any options.
So why tonight?
Why this boat? - Okay.
Because-because-because our parents.
Our parents... our parents were
on their way to this boat.
Mom's dream was just to have...
lunch on a yacht.
[Tracy] This is gonna be amazing.
I'm so excited. The yacht, the people.
I'm so happy we're doing this.
But they never made it to the yacht
because of you, Kaleb. You killed them.
So...[chuckles] now you know why.
Please. Please! - Wait. Please stop!
[grunts]
[indistinct shouting]
[intense music]
[groans]
[indistinct shouting]
[grunting]
Just go! Just go! I'll get Kaleb.
[grunting]
Jahleel, stop!
Brother, no! No. [grunts]
[timer ticking] - [grunts]
[suspenseful music]
[grunting]
[timer ticking]
[suspenseful music]
[water splashes]
[exploding]
[dramatic music]
[sighs]
If this gets out, my entire family is ruined
and I'm going to jail.
I can't allow that to happen.
You gotta take this to the grave.
To the grave.
You think she'll ever remember anything?
The doctor said with her head injury,
she doesn't even remember her name.
Yeah, but what if one day she does remember?
We'll deal with it then.
Did they ever catch Jahleel?
I overheard some cops at the dock saying
that he died in the explosion.
Good.
[sighs]
Come on, guys. Let's get out of here.
[phone rings]
[ominous music]
Who are you?
[Olga] An old friend.
Sorry but I don't remember you.
That's why I'm here,
to help you remember.
[singer] Diving down the 101
Thinking about the way it was
It's feeling like we had our fun
Now I'm headed for the sun
I'll be your shoulder
Till this part is over
Yeah
Said I'll be your shoulder
Till this part is over
But I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
But I believe the way to go is hard
The way to go, the way to go
[upbeat music]
[singer] I drove by
your house the other day
