The Copycat Killer (2026) Movie Script

1
I have to tell you,
that was a lot fancier
than I was expecting.
Most cops I know just
eat off of styrofoam,
not Wisteria porcelain.
Yeah, well you did just catch
the Sigil Slayer for them.
Uh-huh.
I mean that's worth at least
four courses plus
hors d'oeuvres.
At least.
Though, the wine list
was a little suspect.
I know.
Thankfully...
I have addressed it with
my favorite ros,
Chateau d'Esclans.
That's very sweet
but I'm exhausted.
Can we have it later?
I still got to work on that
new case for the morning.
Ah,
and don't forget you got
another one of these tomorrow.
Yeah.
Mm.
-Thank you.
-Mm-hm.
You're the Association
of Criminal Profiler's
newest inductee.
Oh.
Oh,
I know.
I know, it must be exhausting
being the darling of
the profiling community.
Don't tease me!
I just wish they would name
some new pathology after me
and let me skip
all these dinners.
Okay, I need to go to sleep.
Well, let's get you to bed then.
Wait, wait.
Maybe not just yet.
Mm.
Hm.
Come here.
Remember me?
You've gotta be kidding me.
We've been planning
this for weeks.
No, you've been
planning it for weeks.
I'm not going.
Well, your doctor says
it's time for you to
get back out there
and re-establish
yourself in the field.
Yeah. Well, I'm
a doctor too Vale,
and I said I'm not going.
Mm-hm. Yeah.
Not that kind of doctor.
Look, Ellie.
What happened with Boyd,
that's over.
He's in prison
and you put him there.
And it's because
you have a gift.
Yeah, Vale.
A gift that almost
got me killed.
And it's saved peoples lives.
I mean, how many other
people would have died
if you hadn't stopped him.
I don't know.
I don't know.
You're so good at this
and it's time for you
to get back out there
and start doing it again.
And you think a
true crime conference
with a panel about
the Sigil Slayer
is the best way to make
a difference, Vale?
Really?
I think that
it's the best way
to face your fears
and I'm really, really,
really sorry but
I already confirmed
that you would be
-speaking on the panel.
-What?
I'm sorry.
And you know what?
I don't think you
really wanna be
turning down that reporter
from Behavioral Crime Magazine
because I saw his byline photo
and it is a swipe right
for sure.
All right, listen.
If this is a set up
for a blind date, Vale,
you're fired.
All right, well you can fire me
from being your
research assistant
but you can't fire me
from being your friend.
Mm.
Wait, is that...
Is Kenneth going to
be at the conference?
Looks like
he's on your panel.
Must have added him last minute
it was TBD when proofed
the program copy last week.
I'm sorry.
Are they expecting
me to sit beside him
after everything
he wrote about me
in that stupid book?
That stupid book is
probably the reason
why you're on the same panel.
You know, like,
you're the fact and
he's the fiction.
Okay.
I'm sorry.
You're probably right.
This is probably too soon.
I'm just gonna call,
we can cancel this whole thing.
No, no. It's fine.
It's fine.
Facing your fears and all that.
I mean,
Boyd couldn't take me out,
I sure as hell am not
gonna let my ex do it.
Okay.
Good.
Ellie, what... Are you...
-I'm sorry.
-Are you okay?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
Sorry, I'm...
I'm fine, I just...
Deep breath.
-I'm sorry.
-No, it's okay.
It's okay. It's okay.
Oh, hey.
That's him.
Who? What?
The reporter that's
gonna interview you.
Julian Duffy.
Told you he was handsome.
Miss Douglas.
Yes, hi.
Sorry, please call me Ellie.
Julian, from Behavioral
Crime Magazine, right?
Yeah, that's me.
Look, I am really looking
forward to our interview.
I can't wait to dive
into your resume.
I mean, the Sigil Slayer,
The River City Ripper,
The Babysitter Murders,
it's honestly some of the most
inventive and creative
profiling I have ever seen.
Thank you.
Sorry,
this is my research
assistant, Vale Talbot.
Yeah, of course.
We met over the phone.
Nice to meet you.
I cannot wait to hear you
speak at the panel today.
Oh, I will try to not bore
you to death.
That's impossible.
I've literally read
all your books.
I mean, your approach to
behavior evidence analysis
as a viable alternate
methodology is fascinating.
Thank you.
All right.
I guess we'll see you later.
I'm looking forward to it.
You think he's
a snack don't you?
I was just being nice.
Oh, yeah.
That's what nice looks like.
Moon eyes and mild drool.
May I remind you
that you work for me?
No, you may not.
And now, I'm going
to get us checked in.
You're on in an hour,
the conference
room is over there
if you want to scope it out.
Hi.
Thanks for coming.
Hello.
-Okay.
-Eleanor.
Detective Deloria,
it's good to see you.
Never thought I'd
hear you say that
or that I would see you in
Poe's Landing ever again,
and yet, here you are.
Right, yeah.
Well, it's taken me a minute
but I am trying to push past it.
Hopefully, we can do the same.
I'm looking forward
to your presentation.
Obviously,
and I thought that
was really incredible.
I've also done some digging
myself into public records.
Hi.
Thank you.
Thank you for having me.
Ellie.
Wow.
You look amazing as usual.
Ken.
It's been a while.
Hey, I'm sorry I
didn't mean to...
No, it's fine. I'm past it.
I heard that your
book tour went well.
Looks like you didn't need me
to do that signing
with you after all.
Yeah, well.
I just wanted to say,
sorry again for asking.
It was insensitive.
I can think of
another word for it.
A few, actually.
Yeah, well, I was just
kind of hoping that we can
put all that behind us.
By following me
to a conference and
crashing my panel?
-Following?
-Mm-hm.
Well, they
asked me to come.
There are reprints of my book.
Yes, your book.
Your book.
Where you make me look
like some fear-stricken,
hysterical-No, no, no, no, no.
I did no such thing, actually.
The Sigil Slayer killed
a dozen women, Ken,
and then he broke out of
prison and nearly killed me
and you turned all of that into
a pop psychology paperback.
He's a murderer,
not a muse.
Yeah, well the people deserve
to know how we solved the case.
We?
That's rich!
-I helped.
-Mm.
Yeah, we bounced
ideas off of each other.
Okay.
Those victims deserved better
than your yellow prose
and your tabloid journalism.
And honestly, so did I.
And what did I deserve?
I stuck around after that attack
and you just refused
to let me in.
What do you want, Ken?
I nearly died.
Hey, you're on in five.
Ellie, I just...
We knew that as a child
Glen Boyd had survived his
parents in a tragic fire,
but his whereabouts after
their death were undocumented.
It was suspected that
he spent many years
in various foster care homes
until he was sent to
juvenile detention
for his reckless
behavior as a teenager,
but his killing spree
did not begin until
he was an adult,
many years later.
With so many gaps
in the known history
of this primary suspect,
it's those first
and earliest cases
that can provide the most
useful insight for a profiler.
It's when a killer is
at their most unsettled,
unpracticed,
and where they make
the most mistakes.
Here's one of them.
You'll see some dirt
on the handle of the knife
used to kill Melissa Parker.
We determined that
this bit of evidence
came from Tamerlane Creek
running just outside
Poe's Landing.
This is also where two
more victims were found.
They were young women
from rural, low-income areas.
They had brown hair, fair skin,
and on their bodies is where
the symbols were first seen.
Dubbed, "Sigils" by the press,
there were three different ones
branded onto the
victim's bodies.
This initially led
us to believe that
there was more than one killer.
However, after Boyd's arrest
the murders stopped and
the case was closed.
To this day,
we still don't know
what those sigils meant.
Um...
Um...
Remember me?
The um...
The evidence did
finally lead to Boyd
being arrested.
And
by creating a profile
based entirely off of
the physical evidence
found at the scene,
we determined that
the killer had
impulse control issues,
of course, and
an obsession with
repetition and patterns.
Shush, shush, shush.
Excuse me.
This helped us to...
It helped us to...
Excuse me.
Sorry.
Excuse me.
Ellie.
It wasn't that bad.
Vale, it was awful!
And that reporter was there too,
wasn't he?
Probably recorded the
whole thing on his phone.
I'm gonna go viral.
God!
Honestly, I feel like if
anyone was recording it-
Ellie.
Are you okay?
Hi, Julian.
I'm so sorry.
I think we're gonna
need to cancel.
Listen, I just wanted to come
and see how you were doing.
Of course, this isn't the
time for an interview.
It's fine. It's fine.
Really, please sit.
It's fine.
All right.
The whole thing just kind of
caught me off guard, that's all.
Yeah, yeah.
I couldn't imagine
getting up there myself,
reliving that pain
in front of everyone.
Yeah, thank you
for understanding.
I have to say,
I was thoroughly impressed
with what you got through
in your presentation.
I mean, pulling
together a profile
divorced from the archetypes
and templates used in the past.
Really nice.
Yeah.
Well, the theory is that
we have so many
preconceptions and biases
about what a serial killer is,
how they behave,
it's kind of hard to-
Excuse me.
Thank God, coffee!
Are you Dr. Eleanor Douglas?
Yes.
I thought so.
I'm so excited to meet you.
I'm Christine Sanford.
Right.
You look familiar.
I was at the conference earlier.
I saw you and Kenneth
Burrow in the green room
and I was like,
I was gonna say hi
and then I thought,
maybe I shouldn't.
Yeah, no, right. Yeah.
It started out as
a hobby and then it
became an obsession
and I've read all
of your articles.
You have?
Yeah.
I mean, you caught
the Sigil Slayer.
Well...
No, everybody in
this town was so scared
and then you came
and you saved us.
It was inspirational.
I'm studying criminal
psychology now because of you.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
All I did was
help though, really.
No way!
I mean, thank goodness you did.
The police were not
getting anywhere.
Believe me.
I was following along
like an amateur detective.
Really?
Kind of have my own theory.
What's the theory?
Well,
you know the Landor house?
The old creepy building
off the main road.
Well, it used to be a
foster home years ago.
Maybe Boyd spent
some time there.
A lot of kids passed through it.
You know it's local legend
that bad things happened there.
They sound like
world class parents.
Yeah, I mean, the
Landors disappeared,
the house remained abandoned,
and no one ever thought to
connect it to the Sigil Slayer.
So how do you think
it's all connected?
Well, I think that
you were on to something
in your initial
investigation Dr. Douglas.
Oh, what do you mean?
Well, it's like you
said in your presentation.
I believe there is
more than one killer.
And I believe there is evidence
missing that can prove it.
Yeah, you know
Christine, the murders stopped
when Boyd was arrested.
I think you might be
chasing a dead end.
Just like I did.
Yeah, you're probably right.
But my gut
tells me that there's more.
Anyways,
I should get back
to work.
Hey, do you
want an autograph?
Don't be ridiculous, stop.
Come on, just do it.
I would really love one.
It was very nice to
meet you, Christine.
An honor to meet
you Dr. Douglas.
I'll take that.
She's and eager
beaver isn't she?
Yeah, she seems harmless.
So, I guess we're not
getting those coffees.
Do you want to grab one
back at the hotel instead?
Maybe even a drink?
Yeah, I guess
that would work.
Vale, why don't you join us?
I have some work
that I need to do
back in my room but I'll
catch up with you later.
I guess, but I...
Have a good interview.
Um...
Shall we?
Yeah.
No, I mean I helped
break the case
but half the cops
thought I was a witch
and the rest tried to use
me as their therapist.
I mean, you should be proud.
Your approach works.
I can't take credit
for the whole thing.
No, of course not.
Most of the credit should
go to Kenneth Burrow, right?
At least according to his book.
I'm kidding.
You know, he almost
blew the whole case.
The cops were getting all
of these false confessions
so to weed them out they were
withholding crime
scene information
including as symbol
that Boyd used
that was never
released to the press.
Kenneth's chatting up
this reporter one night
and he almost revealed
it trying to impress her.
Wow.
Yeah, exactly.
Hey, can I ask you something?
Sure.
Why choose profiling?
Why choose to get into
such a dark field of work?
My brother.
He was taken when I was 14.
I was supposed to
be watching him
but there was a party that night
and I knew it was
wrong to leave but
I did it anyway.
And when I got
home, he was gone.
Oh, my God. I'm so sorry.
They found him three days later.
He was taken by this drifter.
Somebody who had almost
been caught before.
You know, I lost
someone close to me too.
We were very close.
It never stops hurting.
Even though he's gone,
it still feels like he's
right there, you know?
I would do anything
to get him back.
Hey, I'm not sure I
want that in your article.
Oh, I stopped taking
notes two hours ago.
Got a little caught up, I guess.
Well, I think I'm
gonna call it a night.
Maybe just one more drink?
I don't know.
It's kind of been a long day.
Yeah. Yeah, sure.
Maybe tomorrow.
Maybe we could
have one in my room.
Sit down.
No!
Whoa, hey, hey.
Hey.
Are you okay?
We can stop.
It's fine.
It's okay.
Yeah.
Remember me?
You know, it's probably
just some demented joke
from someone in the
crowd at the conference
when they saw you were spooked.
This type of thing can
draw some real sickos.
Yeah, I'm not sure that's
like a technical term.
What's wrong?
My necklace.
Did you see my necklace?
Did we take it off last night?
How did they know
that was the symbol
that Boyd left in my
apartment when he attacked me?
I don't know.
No one's seen this.
It's the one thing
the police withheld.
-I'll get it.
-Thank you.
Morning.
Detective Deloria,
hi, yeah. What are
you doing here?
I need you to come
with me to the station.
We need to talk.
Look, if this is about
the evidence I presented
at the conference last night
I am sorry
that I didn't credit your
input with the investigation.
Thank you, I appreciate that
but it's not about that.
Okay, then what is it?
It's about the death
of Christine Sanford.
Deloria,
what's going on?
Have a seat.
Christine Sanford was
found stabbed to death
in her home this morning.
Oh, my God. That poor girl.
She was found with one of these.
Okay.
This is obviously
a copycat killer.
Let's start with
Christine's home,
although we can't be sure that
she was murdered there.
Sorry, I don't think
you're understanding me.
I'm not asking for your help.
What are you talking about?
How did you know Miss Sanford?
I mean, I saw her
at the conference
and then we met at the diner
when she was our server.
And what did you talk about?
She was a fan.
Of yours?
No, of true crime, I guess,
but I mean, she was
familiar with my work
and what I had done in
Poe's Landing with you.
Yes, we all know
what you did here.
Now, what did you talk about
with Miss Sanford exactly?
The Sigil Slayer case, Boyd,
the Landor house.
She thought that he was
under foster care there.
Yeah, we don't have
any record of that.
She felt that there was
more evidence to uncover.
Like this symbol?
Deloria,
I know that we had
our differences
when we worked
the case together.
I worked on that
case with my team for years
and you inserted yourself
in the last three months.
Okay, fine,
but that doesn't mean I
had anything to do with
Christine getting killed.
I mean, this is
obviously somebody
trying to imitate the
Sigil Slayer and...
Look, I found this
last night in my purse.
Any idea who might
have done this?
No, I mean I thought
it was some sick prank.
I'm keeping it for evidence.
Am I a suspect?
Person of interest for now.
You're free to go but
stay near by.
Deloria, come on.
We have to work
on this together.
Ellie, this is not just a case.
This is a person
and you're involved
so I need you to stay in town
and stay out of it.
- But there's someone-
- Okay.
Ellie, you're free to go.
Okay? I'll be in touch soon.
Please don't speak
to the press, okay?
They will be swarming
Poe's Landing
and while that might be
very good for your career-
Come on, Deloria. Please.
I won't have it in my town.
Understood?
Yes.
I can't believe she's
not letting you help.
Yeah, it's ridiculous.
I mean, we didn't
exactly get along
when we worked together
the first time.
She can be a bit territorial.
I mean, a woman's dead.
This isn't the time
for a turf war.
Yeah, look.
I'm sorry to leave
you in the lurch
like this with your article
but I really can't focus
on that, right now.
So hopefully, your editor
will cut you some slack,
give you a kill
fee or something-
Hey, hey.
You don't need to worry
about that, Ellie.
You need to worry about
yourself right now.
And Christine.
I should not have
come to this town
or this conference.
I mean, it can't
be a coincidence
that somebody slipped
that sigil into my bag
and then the next day
Christine is found
murdered by someone using
the same MO as Boyd.
I mean...
What if somebody killed her
because she talked to me?
I guess that's possible but
you were just being kind,
that doesn't make
you responsible.
I don't know.
I don't know it's...
Hey.
If you wanted me to
do something about it,
I could help.
Off the record?
Yeah, yeah. Of course.
Yeah.
Okay, so let me
get this straight.
There's a copycat killer
who has murdered one women
and is threatening you
and you just want to
stick around here?
You just want to
see how things go?
Yeah, look.
I can't make you stay
and if you want to leave
I totally understand
but I could really use
your help with this.
I need to see this through.
I feel awful about Christine.
Can't we just leave
this one to the local cops?
I mean, you've evaded
death once already.
You know Deloria
lacks the resources.
She's smart but
she has no back up.
Okay.
I understand, I think.
How can I help?
Do what you do best, research.
Find me anything you can
about Christine.
For all we know,
this is just a
local with a grudge
using this opportunity to
throw people off the trail
by using the conference.
I mean, that would
be pretty brilliant.
It would be pretty sick, Vale.
Right, yeah.
What's the priority?
Let's start with the basics.
Just get me Christine's address.
Why?
Vale.
Just please be careful.
You do not pay me
enough to bail you out.
Thank you.
Of course.
Vale, I'm
at Christine's house.
Stay close by.
Vale, I'm at
the Landor house.
What do you have
on Cheryl Landor?
-Freeze!
-Oh!
-Eleanor.
-Jeez!
Tell me what the
hell you're doing here.
Stop! Just put down that down!
Oh, my God.
You didn't have to point your
gun at me though, you know?
Well, you were an
intruder, Eleanor.
I was looking for evidence.
You know, that's not
exactly what I had in mind
when I told you not
to get involved.
Well, like it or not,
I am involved.
That's what I'm worried about.
What took you to
the Landor house?
The missing evidence
that Christine alluded to
and obviously, she was right.
I mean, you saw it.
That triangle sigil
was freshly painted.
Yes, but how do I know it
wasn't you who painted it?
You can't seriously believe
that I'm the one who
killed Christine?
I believe that you
bulldozed my investigation
the first time around.
There would have been
so many more casualties
if I hadn't helped you
get there faster, Deloria.
I could have got there on my own
and I didn't need your help.
Okay.
Look, I'm just trying
to follow the evidence
and letting it paint a picture.
There's no preconceptions.
What are you trying to say?
You're free to go Eleanor.
You'll be hearing from me soon.
Look, just
don't get so hung up on me
that you can't see
the real killer, okay?
We'll see about that, won't we?
Okay, so what do we do?
Can you get the
original police files
from the Sigil Slayer case?
Yeah, man. I can try.
It's gonna take some time.
I might have to get
a little creative
with the police
databases and such.
Okay, good because
whoever killed Christine knew
about the triangle sigil
so we need to see what else
could be in those files
and we need to make a list
of everyone who knew
about that sigil.
It's gonna be a
pretty short list.
Well, it will be
less work for us then.
Let's start with
all of the police officers
from Poe's Landing
who worked on the original case.
I can help with that.
See who's still around,
still on the force,
that kind of thing.
Great, who else?
I mean, there's you, obviously.
There's me, there's Boyd,
Deloria.
Myself now, since
you showed it to me.
Right, and then there's
Kenneth.
He knew.
And someone had
dinner with Christine
the night that she died.
There were two glasses of ros,
Chateau d'Esclans,
which is Kenneth's favorite.
Have you told Deloria?
And admit that I
was snooping around
an active crime scene? No.
And that's not proof
of anything, right?
I would need to have something
more concrete than that.
Maybe we should get the check.
By creating a profile
based entirely off of the
physical evidence
found at the scene,
we determined that
the killer had
impulse control issues.
Ellie, what are you doing here?
We need to talk, Ken.
Yeah, sure.
How'd you find out
where I was staying?
Vale.
She got the room list
for the other panelists.
Right, yeah.
I remember her
talent.
You want a coffee or something?
How about some ros?
Chateau d'Esclans?
A little early, don't you think?
That's right.
You like to have it at night.
Date nights to be specific
like the one you
had with Christine.
Yeah, I don't know what
you're talking about.
You were never a good liar, Ken.
You know what?
Maybe you should go, Ellie.
I know that you
were with Christine
the night that she died
and if you don't tell
me what's going on,
the police are going
to find out too.
Are you threatening me?
No!
No!
I mean, I could have told
the detective earlier today,
but I didn't.
I wanted to give you
a chance to explain.
Explain what?
Huh?
Yes, I met her at
the conference.
We went for dinner,
it was a lovely evening.
After dessert and
a glass of wine,
I left. That's it.
You're unbelievable.
All she wanted to do
was discuss the
Sigil Slayer case.
Then the next thing I know
she's come to a
tragic end, okay?
What?
It wasn't just
a tragic end, Ken.
She was murdered
and on top of that,
whoever did it is
trying to frame me.
Yeah, well that has
nothing to do with me.
Did you tell her about
the triangle sigil?
Of course not.
I would never discuss
sensitive information.
Well, then help me explain
because you were the last
person with Christine
the night that she died.
I'm not a murderer, Ellie.
Okay, and I don't need this
attention right now, okay?
My book is being
optioned for a movie
and I don't want
to jeopardize that.
This is not about
your reputation, Ken.
A young woman is dead.
Are you serious?
Who are you?
We went for dinner, that's it.
Leave me out of this.
Honestly Ken,
I don't think you've
given me a choice.
Why didn't you give
it to Detective Deloria?
I can't.
I've tampered with evidence
and somehow, I am her
number one suspect.
If I give this to her,
she'll arrest me.
I mean, look at this.
Christine was
trying to figure out
how those three
sigils were connected,
but she knew that
something was missing.
That means she's a super fan.
I doubt she had any real
criminal profiling experience.
This could all be nonsense.
No, she does not seem
silly to me in this.
She was looking for something.
Maybe, maybe it
was the triangle.
I don't know.
I think you should burn it.
What?
Look, it's not
gonna help your case
if they find this
in your possession.
Hey.
Oof!
Feels like your
muscles are gonna snap.
Hey, I have an idea.
Here, sit up.
Here, turn like this.
Have you heard of box breathing?
What?
The relaxation technique?
Yeah.
I learned it when I was a kid.
Got me through some tough times.
Here.
Breathe in.
Slow
and hold.
And breath out.
Slow
and hold.
One more.
Breath in, slow.
And hold.
And breath out, slow.
Better?
Yeah.
Is there anything
else I can do to help?
I can stay with you tonight.
I think I need to be alone.
Yeah, of course.
Are you sure you
don't need anything?
I need to do something
and I need to do it alone.
Okay.
Remember me?
Don't be scared.
I don't bite.
You don't seem
surprised to see me.
I'm not.
I knew you'd come eventually.
You always struck me as
someone drawn to the truth.
I don't expect you
to tell me the truth.
I don't know what
I was expecting.
I am the truth.
You just have to accept it.
I made you famous.
A hero needs a villain.
To enter the arena.
I'm not here to listen
to you preach, Boyd.
Then why did you come?
There's been another murder.
Another sigil slaying
or at least that's what
it's supposed to look like.
Oh, that's odd isn't it?
Considering.
Surely the cops
don't think I did it.
No, that's why I'm here.
They think I did.
Ah.
Interesting.
The Sigil Slayer
puts an innocent man in jail
so she can cover
up her own crimes
and continue killing.
Shame on you.
I'm being framed, Boyd,
and my gut is telling me that
you know who's behind it.
You sure about that?
I'm sure you killed those women.
So whoever's doing this
is not the Sigil Slayer.
Or maybe you got it wrong
and that mistake's coming
to bite you in the ass.
Or cut your throat.
Are you threatening me?
I did not make a mistake.
I just followed the evidence.
You saw what you wanted to see.
We got you, didn't we?
Yeah, you did.
Bravo.
Bravo.
You got me.
For now.
I wanna go back to my cell.
What do you mean, Boyd?
Hey?
What do you mean by that?
You'll see.
Hey, it's Deloria.
Listen, where are we with the
prints from the wine bottle
at Christine Sanford's house?
Okay.
I'm gonna bring
in Kenneth Burrow,
see if he'll volunteer
his prints for comparison.
Yeah.
And can you check the database
and run any unknowns
against exclusionary prints
that we have on file from
the old Sigil Slayer cases.
Great.
Hey.
No.
No, Vale.
I'm fine. I just...
I just needed to go off
on my own, you know?
I really think there's
something else going on.
It's like everything...
What are you doing here?
What the hell did
you tell the police?
What?
They had me come
in for fingerprints.
You're putting this
on me, aren't you?
I am not putting
anything on you, Ken.
You just couldn't
handle the break up.
So what? You're
trying to punish me?
Or what, to ruin my life?
-I think you need to go.
-Why?
Huh?
So you can set me up?
Tell them that I broke in
and that I threatened you?
Is that not what
you're doing, right now?
I guess then I have
nothing left to lose do I?
You need to go.
Yeah, and you,
you need to watch yourself.
Ken, go away.
Police. Open up.
Thank God.
Did you see Ken leave my room?
He got in somehow and
he was threatening me.
Eleanor, turn around.
I need you turn around.
Eleanor Douglas,
you're under arrest
for the murder of
Christine Sanford.
Deloria, I know this looks
bad but I am being framed
and I think my ex, Ken
Burrows is behind it.
He threatened me earlier.
Is this Kenneth's necklace?
I found the pendent
at the Landor house
and the chain in
Christine's hand.
You didn't have it when we
first spoke here at the station.
I checked the footage,
but you did have it
at the conference.
I checked the
footage for that too.
That went missing the
first night I was here.
The night Christine was killed.
Well, someone took it.
The same night the triangle
sigil was put in my purse.
Do you recognize this?
Yes.
This is a bottle of
wine, Chateau d'Esclans.
So you're familiar with it?
Yeah, it's Kenneth's
favorite ros
and he was with Christine
the night she was killed.
So why are your
fingerprints all over it?
Why do you have my fingerprints?
I have them on file from
the Sigil Slayer case.
Why did you go to
Christine's house?
To find out why she was killed
and it led me to
the Landor house.
You followed her there
and then you killed her.
No. No.
That's what somebody
wants you to think.
I was with Julian Duffy
the night that
Christine was murdered.
You can ask him.
Oh, I did.
Yes, he confirmed that you
spent the night together.
Perfect.
But he's a heavy sleeper
and he said he couldn't
be sure of your movements
the night of the murder.
What?
You know that doesn't
mean I killed somebody.
No, Ellie.
Thing is I don't know,
because you have
been lying to me
since the moment you got here.
You're right.
Okay, I have.
I have not been giving
you the whole truth
and I am sorry about that.
I wasn't sure if
I could trust you
and honestly, I'm
still not sure.
But there is something
that I need to show you.
Where'd you get this?
Christine's house
in her bedroom.
Ellie, you tampered
with evidence!
Do you have any idea
how bad that looks?
Yes, I do.
That's why I'm telling
you about it, okay?
You had doubts about those
symbols just like I did
and it looks like
Christine did too.
She was trying to piece
something together
and maybe that's
why she was killed.
Look, look at this.
Yeah, we've seen this before.
Yes, okay?
Three symbols
and the triangle.
Maybe we were right.
Maybe there's more than one
killer working with Boyd
and Christine knew it.
Well, who else knew
about the triangle sigil?
Kenneth.
And he threatened you?
Yes.
Do I need to call my lawyer?
No.
Not yet.
Thank you, Deloria.
Don't thank me, okay?
This is not a favor.
This is a bet
and I don't like to lose, okay?
Okay.
Thank you.
Ellie,
hey.
What are you doing here?
I've been looking for you.
Where have you been?
Are you all right?
I got arrested for
Christine's murder.
What, what are
you talking about?
I don't feel like
talking about it.
It's over now.
She was just doing her job.
No, no, no. She can't do this.
No, she can.
She can.
Why did you tell her that you
weren't sure I was with you
the night that
Christine was murdered?
I wasn't sure.
What do you mean
you weren't sure?
I don't know,
anything can happen
-when you're asleep.
-Fine.
Okay.
I don't need you
looking out for me.
It's fine.
Ellie.
I'm gonna confront him, Vale.
Don't do it, Ellie.
He's dangerous.
Leave this one to Deloria.
He's my ex.
It's too risky for
him to hurt me.
I have to know.
Ellie, listen-
I found the clothes, Ken.
What?
Don't.
You were following me?
What'd you do with them?
I gave them to the police.
Oh, my gosh.
Why are you here?
Because I wanted to
look you in the eyes
and get the truth from you
before you get arrested.
Arrested for what?
Come on!
What hitting on a waitress?
For being clumsy?
Look, I broke a glass.
I cut my hand
and then I spilled
wine all over myself.
Yeah, no. I find
that hard to believe.
Look.
Okay, all she wanted to do was
talk about you and your work
and your articles.
She barely even
mentioned my book.
Okay, okay.
Did that piss you off, Ken?
Is that why you killed her?
I did not kill her!
You're gonna ruin my life
over this insane fantasy
that you're having?
Or maybe it's worse,
maybe it's revenge.
And it's been festering
inside to get back at me.
What?
Yeah.
Did you kill her to frame me?
Or maybe it's that new
boyfriend of yours.
I don't know what
you're talking about.
You don't even know him, do you?
Typical Ellie.
You know I checked online,
there is not a single article
by Behavioral Crime Magazine
by Julian Duffy.
You're not making any sense.
Yeah, or maybe it's that
snotty assistant of yours
trying to make things
right on your behalf.
Stop.
Did you stop when I asked
you to leave me alone?
Look, I'm sorry.
It's just-
Just stop!
Okay, before you do
stuff that you'll regret.
Ellie I told you to get
the hell out of here.
Try again.
Please leave a
message after the tone.
Hello, this is Eleanor Douglas,
I'm calling about one of
your writers, Julian Duffy.
If someone could call
me back at this number,
that would be great.
Thank you.
Hey.
Hi.
I was looking for that.
Is that why you came back?
Yeah.
I mean, no. Not really.
Look, I wanted to apologize.
You were right.
I didn't stick up for
you when I should have
and I'm sorry.
Hey, hey.
I'm really sorry, okay?
I know.
What we are looking
for is any discrepancies.
Something that stands out
or doesn't seem to fit.
Okay, so these are
the case notes and files
downloaded from
the police system.
And these,
are original case files.
That's a lot of material.
Okay, so let's dig in.
I'm gonna get a small coffee.
Wait.
What is it?
The files don't match.
There's evidence in
Vale's original files
that never got uploaded to the
scanned files in the system.
This is all pointing
to somebody else.
Vale, did we...
What are you saying?
That Boyd's innocent?
Maybe.
Come here and look at this.
There are six crime
scene photos missing
from the Parker murder.
There's a footprint
here, fibers here,
different brand
of cigarette here.
There's two more
crime scene photos
missing from the Bridgers case
and there's a whole
days worth of receipts
from the Davro gas station
near where Lindsay
Siro's body was found.
So what does that mean?
It means that I was
missing information.
It means that my profile
was missing evidence.
I mean, this whole case
could be compromised.
There could be a different
killer out there.
This case could be reopened.
Boyd could get out of prison.
No.
How could this happen.
I mean...
There was a lot of pressure
to put someone behind bars.
I mean, maybe
Deloria omitted it.
Maybe it was just a mistake.
You know, they had people
working 12-hour shifts,
typing notes out.
I was one of them and...
But I wasn't the only
one who was helping out.
Who else?
Kenneth.
Ken?
Ken, Ken.
Don't!
Don't touch him Ellie.
Oh!
No, no.
Oh, my God.
Ellie, you need
to leave right now.
Call somebody.
Can you call somebody?
Ellie.
We'll call somebody.
We need to go.
No, no, no.
We're not leaving him.
We're not leaving him.
We're not leaving him.
We need to get out
of here, right now.
Hey, nobody move.
Oh, God. Deloria.
Get forensics here, okay?
And take both their statements.
Eleanor, I need you
to come with me.
We can't leave him.
Ellie, get up and follow me now.
Oh, God.
Wait, wait.
Ellie I'll be right behind you.
You are not pinning this on me.
You're right. I'm not.
Why did you haul me in here?
Why are you not out there
looking for the real killer?
Look, Ellie. I know
that you didn't do this.
What the hell's going on?
I agree with you.
I think you're being framed.
But I need them to think
the plan is working.
Okay, okay.
What do you need me to do.
Nothing. I think you should
stay here where it's safe.
No, I'm not staying here.
I cannot stay here, Deloria.
Okay.
But you really need
to get some rest.
Go back to your hotel
room and wait for my call.
And don't let anyone
into your room.
Do you understand me?
Okay.
Yeah, okay.
Hey, hey!
Ellie, what's going on?
Are you okay?
Shush.
There are triangle
sigils in my room.
-I need to get out of here.
-What?
I need to get out
of here, right now.
Okay, okay. Through the lobby.
It's gonna be okay.
Let's go back to the room, okay?
Yeah.
I need to call Deloria.
Yes, this is Eleanor Douglas.
Wait.
I'm sorry what do you mean?
Who are you?
He doesn't work here.
Okay, thanks.
Vale, what are you doing here?
I can't find Ellie or Julian and
neither one of them
will answer their phone.
Yeah, I haven't been
able to reach Ellie either.
I don't know what to do.
Ellie?
Oh, my God!
Just stay calm.
What do you mean, stay calm?
The sigil was here.
This is Ellie's bag.
It's the real Sigil Slayer.
We messed up.
We put the wrong
person in prison.
And now, the real
killer has Ellie
-and he has Julian.
-Stop!
Please, just let me think, okay?
This is not the Sigil Slayer.
It can't be.
They killed Kenneth and
that's not part of the M.O.
Right?
And a suspicious kidnapping?
No, that's too high profile.
Too high risk.
That's not what the
Sigil Slayer does.
No, this is someone else.
What are you gonna do?
I'm gonna talk to the only
person who has all the answers.
She's still breathing
for now.
Everything's on track.
I'm ready for them.
No, we'll make it believable.
Then we'll make it hurt.
Detective.
What a pleasant surprise.
I thought you forgot
about little old me.
What do I owe this great honor?
You smell so good.
Tell me what it was
like to be in foster care
with Cheryl Landor.
Come on Glenn,
tell me about the Landors.
This visit's over.
Take me back to my cell.
I gotta tell you,
whoever you've got out
here killing for you
they're destroying
everything you've built.
Your legend, your legacy.
The legacy of the Sigil
Slayer's gonna live on long
after you and I
are dead and gone.
Really?
Kenneth Burrow's been murdered.
Eleanor Douglas is missing.
None of that fits your profile.
Your whole story is unraveling.
I don't know, detective.
Why don't you ask
the Sigil Slayer?
I hear she's still out there.
Maybe,
or maybe he's in here
working with someone out there.
Julian Duffy.
Now, I can't tie him to the
murder of Christine Sanford,
not yet,
but Kenneth,
that murder was messy.
Less calculated.
Tell me about Cheryl Landor.
What does this
house mean to you?
Nothing.
Nothing.
It can burn for all I care.
Did Miss Landor abuse
you like your parents did?
Hm?
That's why you killed
them in that fire.
I know it wasn't your fault.
I know that you
created this monster
to hide behind, to protect
yourself from the abuse.
If you wanna
restore your legacy,
help me.
Tell me what this means.
I know you know.
Please.
If you wanna catch monsters
you have to go back to
where they were made.
Oh, wonderful. You're awake.
What the hell is going on?
How's the head?
Oh, let me see that.
Don't worry, I'll get
something to bandage that up.
Yeah, I wouldn't want
you to bleed to death
before you, you know,
bleed to death.
Why are you doing this?
I mean, isn't that obvious?
To show the world you were
wrong about the Sigil Slayer.
You're the real killer?
How?
How is that...
Oh, my God!
There it is.
Keep pushing,
you're almost there.
A lot of kids pass through it.
You know, it's local legend
that bad things happened there.
Learned it when I was a kid.
Breath in, slow.
I believe there is
more than one killer.
You and Boyd were
working together?
Are you partners?
Oh, so close.
Not partners.
And I would do anything
to get him back.
Brothers.
Boyd didn't
have a brother.
He didn't have
records of a brother.
See, we destroyed them all
when we escaped this hell hole.
You were both the Sigil Slayer?
That's why the evidence
was so muddy at first.
Until I cleaned it up.
Oh, God.
See, you're good.
Very good.
I may have lied
about all this but
I didn't lie about that.
You were getting too
close to figuring out
there was more than
one Sigil Slayer
so we had to make a choice.
Good old Glenn took the fall
to protect us like
he always did.
So what does all of this...
I mean, what are you...
You trying to get
him out of prison?
Is this revenge?
I mean, you don't
have to do this.
Can't it be both?
Because believe me,
framing you for the killings,
blowing holes in my
darling brothers case,
that's the point.
But watching you suffer...
No.
That's the cherry on top.
Dispatch.
I'm headed to the Landor house.
I'll call for back
up if I need it.
Roger.
Vale!
What the hell are
you doing here?
I think that Ellie's here.
If the killer brought her here
I'll never forgive myself.
Wait in the car.
I'm coming with you.
Vale, wait!
I am going to check upstairs.
Vale!
Ellie!
Vale.
Julian.
What took you so long?
Well, I've been
covering for you brother.
Guess you didn't see that
one coming did you, Eleanor?
I don't understand.
I don't need you to understand.
What about her?
Oh, don't worry about her.
She's not going anywhere.
So you're siblings?
Christine was right then?
This is Glenn's foster home?
This is your home, Vale?
Mm.
Always so smart.
She had a big mouth
and I enjoyed shutting her up.
What happened...
What happened after
Glenn went to juvie?
The abuse got worse.
Glenn never got a chance
to kill our foster mom
so our victims took her place.
So you're all the Sigil Slayer?
Is that what this is?
Did you guys make that?
Take a look.
We made it together
when we were kids
so that we will be
bonded together, forever.
So that we could stay a family.
All right, I've had enough.
Julian don't.
Put it down.
I want her to suffer down here
like we all did.
Go get the suicide note.
See, now you're gonna take
the fall for everything.
It's time to make things right.
I need you to sign this.
He always wanted your autograph.
Nobody move.
Vale!
Don't move.
Leave it.
I said, leave it.
Drop your weapon.
Drop your weapon.
Don't even think about it.
Stay down. Don't...
It's okay, Ellie.
You did what you had to do.
Okay?
It's okay.
Dispatch, this is Deloria.
Copy, go ahead.
I need back up and an
ambulance to the Landor house.
Roger.
Back up's on the way.
Hey, you okay?
Nope.
But I will be.
Thanks for trusting me.
I am sorry that I
didn't do it sooner.
Well, luckily the case is closed
and Glenn Boyd can
never get out of prison.
Thank you for coming, ladies.
Who should I make this out to?
Special Agent Lisa
Deloria, please.
Deloria, it's so
good to see you.
You too, Ellie.
What are you doing here?
Well, actually
I'm working on a case
and I could really
use your help.
Okay, lets find
somewhere to talk
after I work through this line.
Great.
Okay, you don't
want one of these.
No, I absolutely do.
I'm proud of you.
Well, look at that.
