The Dark Heaven (2026) Movie Script

'Mekkarai Village
Year 1979'
Hello!
Hey, Jones!
Did you pick up the book I asked for?
Yes, I've got it set aside
for you, brother.
It's raining really hard.
Could you come and pick it up
tomorrow morning, brother?
No, no. Um...
there's a four-day holiday
for Saraswathi Pooja, so...
I'll come over and pick it up then.
- Alright?
- Okay, brother.
What are you doing?
Come and get back to work!
We need to head home before
the rain gets any worse.
Why don't we just open
this box and see what's inside?
Have you lost your mind?
Sir told us not to even go near that box.
Don't you remember?
We've been working here for six years.
We know everything this shop has,
except for this box.
If he's telling us not to touch it,
there must be something in there, right?
Hey, Vela! Listen to me.
Come here.
If sir said something,
there will be a reason for it.
If you keep living in fear
just because sir said so,
we'll be stuck cleaning
dirty vessels forever.
I've made up my mind.
I have to know what's inside this.
Vela... don't do it, Vela!
I warn you, don't break it open!
Listen to me, Vela.
What, man...
no matter how hard I hit it,
it just won't break.
Something doesn't feel right.
Don't break it!
Hey! Don't run, Vela!
Stop!
Hey, Jones!
Where did he go?
Okay...
Pechi, open the door!
Hey, Pechi!
Coming!
What happened, dear?
Why are you so late today? Hmm?
Of all days, I had to go to the
Othaipaalam Book Shop today,
and it just poured.
That's why I got late.
Alright.
- Come on, I'll serve dinner.
- Dinner? Wait, wait.
I had a feast at the manager's house,
I'm completely full.
- Alright, let's go to sleep.
- Sleep?
I have exams coming up.
I need to take some notes.
You go ahead and lie down.
I'll come join you later, okay?
- Okay, but finish up soon, hmm?
- Alright.
My name is Oliver Robert.
I am a writer from France.
My job is to travel around the world
in search of supernatural phenomena
and reveal to the world
what is happening there.
Mekkarai was a village that hid such
a supernatural secret within itself.
I opened my diary to write about
the supernatural events
happening in that village,
but something else happened.
Opening the diary is all I remember.
Yet, the diary was already written in...
even though I hadn't written anything.
Moreover, what was written in that diary
was not about what had
happened in Mekkarai until then,
but about what was going
to happen in the days to come.
If you have the courage beyond this point,
read this book further.
Because for you, the reader of this book,
this might be your last day.
- Hello.
- Sir, sir...
I am calling from the
Tirunelveli Central Library, sir.
Sir, at 6:15 this morning,
our Chief Minister
is going to suffer a heart attack.
Please, somehow save him!
Are you serious?
You people used to get drunk
and call the police station,
and now you've started
calling the CM's PA too?
If one more call comes from you,
I'm filing a police complaint, mind it.
Cut the call!
Sir, sir, sir...
Hello.
Please, sir, just listen
to what I have to say.
Hey, don't you understand?
Cut the call!
Sir, please just listen to this
one thing I have to say. I beg you.
It's really important.
Speak.
One way or another, you're going
to look for me today morning.
My name is Manikam.
Tirunelveli Central Library.
'For the upcoming
World Cup cricket series,'
'Venkata Raghavan has been selected
as the captain of the Indian team.'
'An important announcement.'
'Chief Minister Tamilvaanan, who had gone
to his hometown of Mekkarai for a vacation,'
'has been admitted to the hospital
due to a sudden heart attack.'
'As a result, his party supporters'
'are gathering in large numbers
in front of the hospital.'
How did you know about the CM's
heart attack before it even happened?
Will you speak when asked,
or will you only say it if you're
asked in a certain way?
Hmm?
Read this, Alli.
My name... how do you...
Read this,
and you will get all the answers.
Eh... do you have
any other copies of this book?
Eh... yes, how much of this book
have you read so far?
Until you...
become the Chief Minister.
Does anyone else know about this?
Alright.
Don't say a word to anyone outside
about this, or anything that happened here
If you as much as whisper about it,
you won't have breath left to live.
Understand?
Hey?!
Why are you laughing now?
Hey!
It's Inspector Manjunathan who is
going to take me away from here, isn't it?
Hmm?
Hey, tell me the truth!
Just how much of this book have you read?
Page 74, line 13.
By the order of Alli,
Manikam, a native of Mekkarai,
was burned to death
by Inspector Manjunathan!

Year 2014'
I came here to interview a madman,
now I'm the one going insane.
It's been four days.
All I've done is watch his house.
He doesn't seem to be opening the door,
and she doesn't seem to be leaving either.
Wait, I'll call you right back.
What do you want?
I want to know about the Dark Heaven book.
Why go knocking on Satan's door?
You look young.
Forget everything and just leave.
Just a minute!
What?
My father's name is Manikam.
My hometown is Mekkarai.
Now tell me.
Will you tell me about that book?
Or not?
Rex Rutherford.
One of India's greatest writers.
Rex, the renowned writer, won the 'Sahitya
Akademi' award at such a young age.
You were a young prodigy.
Why did you just vanish after
talking about The Dark Heaven?
Even in this age of rapid
scientific advancement,
we still discuss Nostradamus's prophecies.
There are many unbelievable stories here.
Some people call them myths.
Some of those stories...
are rooted in belief.
And Mekkarai is a place that believes
in them with absolute conviction.
'Mekkarai Village
Year 2007'
You've got your engagement today,
do you really need to work, Aaron?
It's 6:30 already.
Don't be late for your own engagement
just because you're trying
to be on time for work.
I'll make it on time.
I'm just terrified of whether I'll even
make it through this month of June.
Your heart is good, Aaron.
Goddess Vanamangai
will surely be kind to you.
Huh... I hope she does.
- Aaron, check who that is.
- Huh?
Hmm.
'Mekkarai Security Checkpost'
Who are you going to see inside?
I'm Aaron, the constable, sir,
Mekkarai police station.
Greetings, sir!
I'm Senthil Kumar, the writer.
Aaron, lift it!
Why on earth did he come to this
place with his family this month?
- Blood pressure is slightly high.
- Huh.
Don't worry.
I'm writing down three tablets.
Take them twice a day, morning and night.
But you need to get some rest.
You're telling a policeman
to take rest, doctor?
I need to be mentally strong to handle
what's about to unfold, doctor.
The dreadful month of June,
which comes once every seven years,
begins today.
Nothing's going to happen.
Leave it to Goddess Vanamangai
and focus on the engagement.
Hmm, sure, doctor.
And... one more thing.
Go on.
I've been trying to borrow
money for Dharani's wedding.
- It's getting a bit delayed.
- Hmm.
If you know anyone who could get me a loan
at a low interest rate, could you help?
Hmm... I will arrange.
Okay, doctor.
Why the long face now?
I'm talking to you.
- When will uncle come, mom?
- He'll come soon.
You're just lying to me.
Don't get involved in grown- up problems.
Just focus on your studies.
Hmm.
When you come here next time,
your uncle will definitely be here.
- Now go and study well. Hmm?
- Hmm!
Why does Dharani look so dull?
Hasn't she forgotten the past yet?
What happened to her
is not something easily forgotten.
Don't worry, I'll take care of it.
- Maragatham!
- Hmm?
The bike's having some trouble.
Eh... I'll drop it off at
Sandhanakili's shed,
then head over to the Big house for a bit.
To the Big House?!
Just a minute.
Why are you going to the Big house now?
A new Inspector has arrived.
I'll go see him and be right back.
Be safe.
Hmm.
My dear Goddess Vanamangai...
This is a story we have grown up
hearing for generations.
Every time the month of June
approaches after those seven years,
the people of this village stand here,
having lost their peace for the entire year.
Have you decided that everyone
born as a human is a sinner, Mother?
Oh my dear Goddess...
at least with this generation,
please put an end to your vengeance.
We've picked the auspicious time for the
first day's ritual, between 9:00 and 10:30
Hand this over to the new Inspector.
Isn't Sandhanakili here?
He went to the station to
get some vehicle repaired, sir.
He'll be back shortly.
Okay.
Hey, go get that jeep started.
Sir, how can I?
You're the mechanic here! Move!
They're asking me to start a jeep
that hasn't run in seven years...
in just seven minutes.
Sir, here are the keys.
You can drive it now.
Please move over a little.
You get on.
Bye!
Brother... Brother... Brother, wake up!
Hey, what happened?
Martin!
- What's up, Azhagu?
- Sir!
- Looks like the jeep is ready?
- Yes, sir.
The new Inspector
is coming today, isn't he?
Oh, yes.
- Where are you going?
- I'm going to the Big house, sir.
Wait, I will also come.
- What did you even fix on this jeep?
- Why, sir?
It's still really hard to shift gears.
I've got tons of wedding work.
Fix it fast.
Sir, you still owe me
4,300 rupees from before...
Am I going anywhere?
I'll pay you after the wedding.
- Okay?
- Okay, sir.
Welcome, son.
My name is Naadukaathan.
I am the village headman here.
We received the news
of your arrival a bit late.
I have done my best
to clean the house for you.
If there is anything wrong, let me know,
and I will send someone to help. Okay?
Oh, sir, you have already done so much.
I will manage the rest.
And one more important thing.
Tell me.
Oh Mother Vanamangai!
You must be with us and protect us.
No, sir.
I don't believe in all this.
Look, this village follows
certain customs.
I am telling you this for
your own good, just accept it.
No, I don't want it.
Paari... he's saying it
for your own benefit.
Just take it.
This village isn't what you think it is.
Go, place this in the prayer room.
Look, look, look at that!
Let's have a look at that
photo over there.
Sir.
Please come in.
- Sir!
- Sir!
Sir, I am Antony.
I am the SI at our station.
Sir, I'm Azhagu, the constable.
Please, sit down.
- Would you like some tea or coffee?
- No, it's fine, sir. We're good.
I have fixed my daughter's engagement.
My son-in-law is also
a PC at our station, sir.
I heard you were arriving.
So, I thought I'd come by to
see you once... and invite you, sir.
- Time?
- Around 11 a.m., sir.
I will come.
- Okay, sir...
- Sir, the jeep driver is on leave.
If you want,
I can drive the jeep for you.
No, I'll drive it myself.
I'll call you if I need anything.
Okay, sir.
The key, sir.
- I will also leave, sir.
- Hmm.
"A hidden forest, dark and deep,
Waiting for a sacrifice to keep..."
"A ghost is near to seal your fate,
And drag you to your funeral gate..."
"Your heart will shake with sudden dread,
Death is coming for the dead..."
"Run and hide, there's nowhere to go,
The demon comes with a thunder blow..."
"A hidden forest, dark and deep,
Waiting for a sacrifice to keep..."
"A ghost is near to seal your fate,
And drag you to your funeral gate..."
Every engagement house I've visited
has been filled with happiness.
But here, I don't see
a single person smiling.
That's a long story, sir.
A story?
It's not a story of a year or two, sir.
It's a story spanning
hundreds of years, sir.
The people of Mekkarai lived happily,
doing agriculture in nature's embrace.
Within this very village
lived eighteen-year-old Vanamangai,
revered as a living goddess by the folk,
alongside Dasarathan,
a master of ancient arts.
One day, sensing
through her divine powers
that Mekkarai was about
to suffer a massive famine,
Vanamangai decided to save the village.
Without telling anyone,
she left the mountain, went down,
and immersed herself in intense
penance at the Shiva temple.
The people of the village searched
high and low for Vanamangai,
but she was nowhere to be found.
Years passed.
Just as Vanamangai had dreaded,
a severe drought struck Mekkarai,
robbing them of rain and harvest,
plunging them into utter famine.
Believing that Vanamangai leaving
the village was the reason for the famine,
the villagers decided to leave
the village of Mekkarai.
At that moment, Dasarathan
stepped forward and said,
"Do not leave the mountains.
Just wait 21 days.
I will fast for the Goddess
and bring the rains back to this village."
The villagers agreed.
The 21st day arrived.
The villagers kept their eyes on the sky,
hoping for rain.
Suddenly, to everyone's surprise,
after seven long years,
Vanamangai returned to the village.
And with her, the rain began to pour.
Believing that rain came back only
because Vanamangai returned,
the villagers praised and celebrated her.
Dasarathan was absolutely furious that
all the honor and respect meant for him
went straight to Vanamangai instead.
Dasarathan teamed up with his aunt
Kovazhagi and cooked up a wicked plan.
That same night, he met the village head
and claimed the rain was actually
because of his ritual,
and that Vanamangai is pregnant
without even getting married.
Hearing this, the village head was
shocked and refused to believe it.
But Dasarathan swore it
was the absolute truth,
warning him that if that unholy child
survived to see the sunrise tomorrow,
it would spell total destruction
for the village with no turning back.
After that, the village head
sent the medicine lady Kovazhagi
to check Vanamangai's pulse
and see if she was pregnant.
She checked the pulse and came back,
lying that Vanamangai was pregnant.
Hearing that, the village head was
utterly shocked and shattered.
When the village head asked
what needed to be done,
Dasarathan replied,
"Burning that demon is the only way."
While Vanamangai was sleeping at home,
Dasarathan, with the
help of the villagers,
set fire to Vanamangai's house.
The fire caught and blazed.
Vanamangai screamed for help,
but no one came.
When Dasarathan told her what happened,
Vanamangai was filled with great anger.
'This village doubted the very girl
who lived and breathed for them!
Now, as I die in these flames,
I leave you with a curse!
For every seven years, the sixth month
which falls once every year,
men in this village will meet
a brutal, horrific death!'
Shouting this,
she let the fire consume her.
In that same month,
that Dasarathan was found
mysteriously dead,
in his vomit pool of blood
on that red sand road.
In the days that followed,
the village head and other men in town
started dropping dead
under mysterious circumstances.
Everyone started believing
that the curse cast by Vanamangai
was the reason for all this.
Because of this,
all the villagers gathered
to appease her anger,
they built a temple for Vanamangai
and started worshipping her.
Despite their prayers and devotion,
while the number of men dying decreased,
the mysterious deaths never truly stopped.
The villagers completely
ostracized Dasarathan's kin,
cutting all ties with his family.
As time passed,
among Dasarathan's family line,
only Kani was left alive
as the last person.
Martin Sir loved Kani with all his heart.
He considered Kani his entire world
and was determined to marry her.
Neither the villagers
nor Father Christopher, who had
raised him, accepted his decision.
Undeterred by their opposition,
Martin Sir decided to marry Kani
and leave the village forever.
Kani and Martin Sir began
their life together in happiness.
But fate has a way of
catching up to everyone.
Martin Sir received a posting
as an Inspector in Mekkarai,
and he moved into that grand, Big house.
And in the very month
of the dreaded curse, June.
I am married to you now,
so the curse of Dasarathan's lineage
shouldn't touch me anymore, right?
Will you take me to see the Goddess?
Even if the entire village
stands against us,
I will take you to
Vanamangai's temple myself.
Driven by Kani's desire to
pay her respects to Vanamangai,
Martin sir drove her
to the temple in his jeep.
As Kani stood in awe,
gazing at the idol of Vanamangai,
a sudden, piercing scream
shattered the silence.
Kani rushed to see what had happened,
only to find Martin sir lifeless
in the driver's seat of the jeep.
The villagers began to blame
Kani for Martin's death.
Seven years have passed since that day,
and today is the first time
we are finally moving that jeep.
Sir, here's your tea.
Oh!
So, is this why no other inspector
is willing to come to this village?
Yes, sir.
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Yes, sir?
Don't you get milk tea here?
With all this rain and the constant chill,
everyone in this village
sticks to black tea, sir.
The moment Paari
learned about that village,
he couldn't have imagined
that the remaining days of that June
would leave his
entire life scarred forever.
'Thenmala
Kerala'
Hey!
You're going there tomorrow anyway.
Let's just talk in person then.
The time for the last bus is almost here.
Come on, go take a bath and
get ready, and you'll be just in time.
Alright, fine then.
Let's meet tomorrow.
Be safe.
I'll take care of it, Bhai.
The bus has arrived
Stay on the line
When did he call you?
It must be around 6.15.
Is there any way to leave the village
other than through the check post?
There is, sir.
There's a red sand trail.
But nobody uses it these days, sir.
Why?
The villagers say that
Dasarathan's spirit wanders there,
and on top of that, they claim you can
hear a man weeping there every Friday, sir
Greetings, sir.
Sit down.
What you're about to
tell me is very sensitive.
Okay, sir.
So, tell me clearly exactly what you saw.
I went out to milk the cows at 4:15 this
morning when I heard the sound of a violin
I couldn't tell who it was.
When I looked at the corner of the street,
I saw a tall figure standing there.
I asked who it was,
but there was no reply.
So, I just headed back home
for my usual coffee.
Later, the radio news mentioned that
a psycho killer from Kerala had escaped,
and the description they gave
matched the figure I had seen.
Have you told this to anyone else?
I haven't told a soul, sir.
Alright.
Don't tell anyone else
what you just told me.
Understood, sir.
- We'll take care of this.
- Okay, sir.
- You may go now.
- I'll leave, sir.
Attention everyone!
Inspector of Mekkarai
has put out an urgent warning
that a masked psycho
from Kerala has escaped
and is roaming around this very area!
So if you spot anyone new
carrying a violin or wearing a mask,
report it to the police immediately!
The case that started in Kerala
reached Mekkarai.
And it...
reached Paari's hands.
Her name?
Jessica, sir.
What are you to this girl?
I am her guardian.
She is growing up in our home, sir.
Does the girl have any love interests?
As far as I know,
there isn't anything like that, sir.
But it could be going on
without your knowledge, right?
Sir... she's such a good girl.
How long has the girl been missing?
Mary said she's been gone
since 6:00 PM, sir.
- And who is Mary?
- She's Jessica's roommate.
She also grows up in our home.
You and Jessica are roommates, right?
Hmm. Yes, sir.
What time did you see her going out?
Around... 6:00 PM, sir.
Does she often go out and
come back late like this?
Not at all, sir.
Whenever she goes out,
she's always back home by 8:00.
What time did you tell the
Father that Jessica was missing?
Around... 11:15, sir.
Jessica never stays out past 8:00,
and here it is past 11:00.
Her phone is off, too.
Yet, you waited three hours
to tell the Father, why?
Mary!
Huh?
I can only help you if you
start telling me the truth.
They... they were really in love, sir.
Joseph and Jessica.
But Kani sister wouldn't agree
to their marriage at all.
I need to talk to you about
something important.
Go ahead, sister-in-law.
The Father came by our house.
What did he say?
Joseph, that girl Jessica is not for you.
You and my brother had
a love marriage, didn't you?
Why are you telling us
we can't do the same?
She's the only one I want.
I'm only going to marry her.
Joseph and Kani have been fighting
about this constantly ever since.
Not everyone gets what they want in life.
And even if they do...
there's no guarantee it will last.
Just listen to me.
You're not my mother,
so don't tell me who I can or can't marry.
You're just my sister-in-law.
After that,
Joseph brother left his home, sir.
He called her yesterday.
Meet me at the bus stand
tomorrow at 10 AM.
I'll be there too.
We'll get married
and start a new life together!
Marriage?
I don't get it.
There's nothing like that, sir.
- She's just babbling nonsense.
- Hmm!
Go on.
Jessica left, went to the bus stand,
and waited there for a long time.
But Joseph never showed up.
She tried calling him,
but his phone was switched off.
We even went to his house
and asked Kani sister.
She said he never came there.
We came back to our room,
and Jessica just kept crying, sir.
Then, around... 6:00 PM,
she said she was going to the shop
to buy sanitary pads.
She left... and she never came back.
Father, why did you hide the fact that
Jessica was in love with someone from me?
Sir...
I've already lost Martin.
I didn't want Jessica to get married
into Dasarathan's family again, sir.
I had already found a good match for her.
That's exactly why I didn't want
any of this to get out.
What's your name?
He's Peter, sir.
What do you do?
He takes care of all the
odd jobs around the church, sir.
Won't he tell me that himself?
We'll meet again, Father.
Hmm.
What happened, sir?
This girl, Mary,
is hiding something, Azhagu.
Something feels wrong.
What makes you say that, sir?
I can see so much fear in her eyes.
The guy Jessica was in love with...
his name is...
It's Joseph, sir!
He's our Martin sir's younger brother.
Where is his house?
It's nearby, sir.
Come, let's go.
Are you Kani?
Yes.
Hmm!
What happened, sir?
How is Joseph related to you?
He's my brother-in-law.
Do you know Jessica?
Yes, I know her.
Joseph and Jessica were planning
to get married today.
Do you know about that?
- I don't know, sir.
- Sir, I've checked.
There's no one inside.
Sir, who are you looking for?
Joseph.
He hasn't been here in six months.
He doesn't even talk to me anymore.
Why did you stop speaking?
I'm asking you!
He loved Jessica.
He was set on marrying her.
I told him no.
That day, he threw his plate
and walked out.
It's been six months.
He hasn't even come near this house since.
Why did you forbid Joseph
from marrying Jessica?
The way Jessica and Joseph are carrying on
is completely unacceptable, dear.
What happened?
I think they both are in love
with each other.
That's a good thing, Father.
Jessica is a very good girl.
I have no objection
to this at all, Father.
You may be okay with it, but...
But what?
I already lost a soul to the
Dasarathan family once.
I don't have the heart to watch
Jessica end up where you are today.
And that's not all.
- By breaking the rules of our village...
- That's enough, Father.
I understand.
Joseph won't speak to Jessica again.
That's exactly why I told him that.
Okay.
If either Jessica or Joseph
shows up in person
or calls,
inform the station immediately.
He won't come here.
But if he does,
you'll let me know, won't you?
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
Is Kani alone in that house?
No, sir.
Kani and her daughter Anna are there, sir.
I think Anna stays in a hostel
for her studies, sir.
How old is that girl?
She should be about 7 years old, sir.
Why does she need to stay
in a hostel at this age?
I don't know, sir.
Maybe she just doesn't want her daughter
to go through the hardships
she had to face.
- I'll see you in the morning.
- Okay, sir.
Paari sir, it's Mary.
I need to tell you something
important about Jessica in person.
I'll come to the station tomorrow morning.
Hey Mary, this is Azhagu.
Paari sir left his phone in the jeep.
- I'll let him know.
- Okay, brother.
I've only seen these kinds of
'psycho' stories in movies.
Is there any way you can catch him
before he strikes again?
What happened?
Hmm?
It's just...
Joseph came from Kerala
to see Jessica, and now he's gone.
Jessica was waiting for him,
and now she's missing too.
What if...
what if that psycho killer
did something to them?
No, no. Nothing like that
could have happened.
Just stop thinking about it for now
and have your dinner.
Sir.
Hmm?
Sir, you left your phone in the jeep.
Mary called.
She said it's something important and that
she'll come to the station in the morning.
We just saw her a little while ago.
- Go ahead, we'll talk in the morning.
- Okay, sir.
Who is it?
Sir.
It happened around 1:00 AM, sir.
He locked the Father's room from outside
and dragged Mary out of the church.
Forensics?
They're inside collecting
fingerprints as we speak, sir.
Tell me exactly what happened.
It was around 1:00 AM.
Suddenly, I heard a violin playing.
It was... unsettling, sir.
The power was out too.
I grabbed a torch to check it out,
- and then...
- And then?
I saw him, sir.
It was Satan, sir.
He... he was Satan himself, sir.
I was so terrified
I didn't know what to do,
so I ran and locked myself in my room.
I... I don't know
what happened after that, sir.
Peter only woke me up in the morning.
When I came to question Mary last night,
Peter was here, wasn't he?
Yes.
If he only woke you up in the morning,
where was Peter last night?
Answer me, Father.
I sent him to look for Jessica
down the hill.
How did you know for sure
she'd left the hill?
If you had already come down the hill,
why did you go back up immediately?
The jeep broke down on the way.
Sandhanakili helped tow it
and dropped me off here.
- Azhagu?
- I checked, sir.
Peter had gone down the hill at 12:30 AM.
Sandhanakili too went down at 4:00 AM.
Sir, Mani hasn't stopped anywhere.
He didn't pick up any scents,
and he absolutely didn't show
any indication of anything.
Hmm, you can go now.
Father.
Neither you nor Peter are to leave
the church without permission.
I'm telling you this for your own good.
Hmm.
- Azhagu!
- Yes, sir?
Announce throughout the village,
no one is to step outside after 6:00 PM.
Okay, sir.
Tell them to call the police
immediately if they hear a violin.
Okay, sir.
Put all our PCs on patrol.
Only two need to stay at the station.
Sir... has that serial killer
already entered the village?
Maybe.
But there's one thing I don't understand.
The Father complained
that Jessica was missing.
When we investigated,
Mary told us that Jessica
and Joseph were in love,
and they planned to get married today.
A little later, Mary called me
and said she had something
important to tell me.
And moments later, Mary went missing.
Joseph is the only name
connecting everything.
But no one knows where he is.
Only once we find Joseph
will we know if this
is a planned kidnapping
or the work of a serial killer.
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
Get all the details
about this serial killer
from the Kerala police immediately.
Okay, sir.
I'm going to look for Joseph.
The place where this case
really begins isn't Mekkarai...
it's Thenmalai!
As if the troubles we've had
this June weren't enough,
now we have this psycho killer.
I wonder what else is in store for us.
Anyway, forget about that.
Did you eat?
I've eaten
Huh?!
Why don't you tell them that
you don't need to work the night shift?
Wait, I'll call you right back!
- Yes, Father.
- Paari sir.
Sir, the violin music...
it's playing near the church again.
I think he's back, sir.
Father, don't be afraid!
There are already two PCs at the church,
they'll handle it.
I'm on my way.
- Hello.
- Hello!
Tell me, sir.
How many of you are at the station?
Sir... it's me and two other PCs.
Azhagu has gone to get dinner.
Leave Azhagu at the station,
and the three of you
leave for the church immediately!
What happened, sir?
They heard the violin sound
near the church again!
The Father just called.
All three of you, get there now!
Understood, sir.
Sir, what happened?
Sir told us to leave
for the church immediately.
Sir...
but what about the police who
were already on duty at the church?
- It started raining heavily on the way.
- Hmm.
That's why I'm late.
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
We got a call about some
violin music near the church.
Sir ordered all three of us
to head there immediately.
You stay here and man the station.
Understood?
Sir...
but me, all alone?
There's no other way, Azhagu.
You'll have to manage.
I'll be back as soon as I can.
Let's go.
Sir!
I don't think the jeep is going to start.
Get in first! Come on, get in!
- Hello!
- Sir!
Sir, it's me Azhagu!
Tell me, Azhagu.
Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!
I'm all alone here, sir.
Please, you have to do something!
Don't panic!
Get straight to the
weapon room and grab a gun.
If he gets close, don't hesitate... shoot!
I'll take full responsibility
for whatever happens.
Yes, sir! I'm on it.
Hello! What is it, Umayal?
Paari... Paari!
I heard the sound
of a violin outside the house.
I checked, and that psycho killer
is standing right there!
I'm very scared, Paari.
Come home right now! Please!
'Paari sir. The violin music...
it's playing near the church again.'
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'...and that psycho killer
is standing right there!'
Paari? Hello! Can you hear me?
Are you there? Can you hear me?
Paari? Can you hear... hello?
Hello?
It's okay... it's okay.
It's okay... it's okay.
Don't cry, mummy's here.
Ju... just stay here for a moment.
Mummy will be right back.
Oh Paari!
Paari... Paari!
Paari!
Paari...
Yes, Azhagu.
Oh my God!
Sir...
That's my Mary, sir...
My poor children...
Jessica...
Oh no, Jessica...
Oh my dear, Jessica...
What about Joseph?
Do you even know what you've done?
You had a most-wanted criminal, sought by
both the Tamil Nadu and Kerala police,
right in front of you
and you let him slip away!
Sir...
With that violin music playing...
- and the fear of seeing him right there...
- Hey!
Aren't you ashamed to say that?
An accused should be
terrified of the police!
If the police are afraid of the accused,
then it's time you take off that uniform
and go find some other job!
What the hell were you doing?
Someone walked into our station,
committed a murder, and left!
And you didn't have the guts
to stop him right then and there.
Now my superiors are breathing down my neck
asking me what the hell I've been doing!
Sorry, sir.
Every news station is running headlines
about the Mekkarai station today!
Breaking news!
And here you are, hanging your
head and offering a simple 'sorry.'
What am I supposed to do
with your 'sorry'...
Get the jeep, now!
Paari.
I had to suspend you so that
the issue wouldn't escalate.
Plus, the Kerala government is
pressing hard on this serial killer case.
They've requested special permission from
the CM's cell to interrogate you and Azhagu
It's a good thing you weren't
at the station that day,
or it would've been a huge problem.
Sir.
The murders happening here
have nothing to do with the psycho killer.
How can you say that?
The psycho killer has committed
19 murders so far.
Every single one follows the same pattern.
The victims have been killed by having
their throats slit with a violin string.
But the pattern of these local murders
has absolutely no connection to his.
Whether the psycho killer did it or not
is for the new Inspector to find out.
I can't just let it go that easily, sir.
He has come all the way to my house.
Stood right there in front of me
and looked at me with such defiance, like
he was daring me to do something about it.
I won't rest until I find out
who's behind these murders.
This case involves two states!
Don't do anything reckless and
get yourself into even deeper trouble.
First, just focus on getting back to duty.
Please, try to talk some sense into him.
He looks deeply depressed.
Stay close and watch over him.
Okay, sir.
- How much?
- 10 rupees
Joseph!
Oh no...
Joseph...
Sir, what happened to him?
Hey, Azhagu!
Yes, sir.
It's nothing.
I was transferred suddenly so it'll take
some time for my family to move here.
Do you need someone to cook, sir?
I'll handle that.
It gets chilly at night, man.
Even booze isn't doing the trick.
Can you get me something...
a little company?
What, sir?!
Company, man. Some company.
You can't get that around here, sir.
And that's not part of my job.
Hey! What's with that tone?
You think you're in your hometown
and can act all arrogant?
Get out!
Go get me a strong, hot tea.
That's part of your job too. Get lost!
Okay, sir.
Some big shot you are.
- Sir!
- Huh?
Who are you, man?
I've never seen you around here.
My name is Maideen, sir.
I used to work with Joseph,
who died two weeks ago.
I have some suspicions
about his death, sir.
Hmm?
I was hoping to see
the Inspector about it...
Hmm.
What is it? Tell me.
Sir, please don't take this the wrong way.
I need to speak to the Inspector himself.
Fine, don't tell me.
But that man is a psycho.
You won't get anything out of him anyway.
Do one thing.
Go see Paari, sir.
Who is he, sir?
He was the Inspector
here when Joseph died.
That's why I'm telling you, go see him.
If I'd caught that psycho back then,
I wouldn't be trapped with this psycho now
Okay.
- Sir.
- Hmm?
Who is that, sir?
He's a friend of Joseph's.
He insisted on seeing Paari, sir.
Said it's something important.
- That's why I've sent him to his house.
- Okay, sir.
Joseph...
Hmm?
Tell me.
I need to see Paari, sir.
He's not home right now.
When will he be back, madam?
Hmm... he'll be late.
I'll just wait off to the side
until he gets here, madam.
Okay.
Hmm.
Why do you want to meet him?
My name is Maideen, madam.
I used to work with Joseph.
I came to town to visit him,
and that's when I found out
he has passed away.
I need to speak with sir
about that matter.
Alright. Please come inside.
- Please sit down.
- Hmm.
- Would you like something to drink?
- No, it's alright, thank you, madam.
It's no trouble at all. Tell me.
If you don't mind,
could I get some black tea?
Okay.
Umayal!
Tell me, sister.
He used to work with Joseph, right?
Yeah... that's what he said.
Can I have a word with him?
Sure, come on in.
After my husband passed away,
our entire family depended on Joseph.
Please, tell me.
Did he have any trouble there?
Did he get into a fight with anyone?
Nothing like that, sister.
He never fights with anyone.
With the money he won in the lottery,
he just came home to start his
own tea shop and settle down.
But when I got here...
What?!
Joseph won the lottery?
What did you do to Joseph?
I came here to ask you
what happened to Joseph,
but you're questioning me instead.
Stop acting!
The night before he left,
he was on the phone with you,
telling you he had won the lottery
and was coming home to settle down.
I heard him! I heard it all!
Tell me the truth!
What did you do to him?
You did something for
that money, didn't you?
Are you going to tell me or not?
I won't let you get away with this!
You're hiding something!
You killed him for money
and now you're putting on an act?
He was my friend!
He only ever wanted all of you to be well!
How could you betray him like this?
Huh?!
Pick up, Paari!
Please, Paari!
Pick up... pick up the phone!
Damn!
Paari, listen.
Because the Kerala government
is involved in this case,
I don't know what I can even do.
If you have any faith in God,
pray that I get to wear
that uniform again.
Okay, sir.
- Yes, Paari.
- The investigation just ended.
What happened?
Why all these calls?
Nothing, Paari.
I had a bad dream.
When are you coming?
I'm leaving now.
"My dear, the banyan tree
It has fallen, uprooted..."
"It has fallen..."
"My lotus that bloomed in the stream,
Why have you vanished from my sight?"
"Your laughter that once carved
through stone, Has turned into tears..."
"The memories of you that seep into my soul,
Why do they kill me without ending my life?"
"Darkness has swallowed my forest
My entire world is engulfed in shadow..."
"One life has been lost
Our nest is now incomplete..."
"Did you not hear
the child's screaming cry?"
"Before you died,
did you not look to God?"
"My precious light
that I can no longer see..."
"My beacon that is gone forever..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
By the way, why did you go near
the Big House on the day of the incident?
I was on my way back from the ration shop
when I saw Joseph's friend, Maideen.
I went to the Big house
only to meet him, sir.
What did you see there?
On the way to the Big house,
I heard the sound of a violin.
As soon as I heard that sound,
I stopped right at the entrance.
That's when I saw him, sir.
What did he look like?
He was quite tall.
He was wearing a mask.
Just looking at him
gave me the shivers, sir.
Well, you and Joseph
weren't on speaking terms.
What was the problem between you two?
That's our family matter, sir.
Huh...
The whole town knows
about your family's troubles.
People around you are dying one by one.
First it was your husband.
Then your brother- in- law.
Who knows who's next?
Mind your words, sir.
My husband was an Inspector too.
He was an Inspector.
But he's not here anymore, is he?
Whenever I call you to the station,
you must come.
Get going.
Everyone puts a ring on a baby.
Why are you so adamant about
putting a chain on him?
If it's a ring, it might hurt him
as he grows, right?
I always want to give him
nothing but happiness.
That is why I've put the ring on a chain.
Hmm...
I have some questions regarding
your wife's death and Maideen's murder.
Tell me, sir.
Do you know Maideen?
No.
What about your wife?
She doesn't know either.
You don't know who Maideen is.
Your wife didn't know him either.
And yet, your wife had a stranger
sitting in the middle of your home,
serving him coffee.
Maideen's murder and
your wife's suicide...
there wasn't a single fingerprint
on either of their bodies.
If someone is committing
murder this cleanly,
there is no way
he's an ordinary person.
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Sir?
Isn't she the one who claimed
she saw the killer in daylight?
Yes, sir.
What are you doing here?
I'm looking after the baby, sir.
Looking after the baby... or...
Let's not talk about
unnecessary things, sir.
She's the one who said
she saw the psycho killer.
And today, she's right here in your house.
I have a feeling it's you
I should be suspicious of.
While you and her were together,
Maideen entered your house,
and when you found out
he was with your wife,
you both teamed up and killed them both
and now you're both
putting on a show for me?
- Hey!
- What, hey!
Mind your words!
The uniform is the only reason
you're still standing.
Hey, Azhagu!
You said that your old Inspector
is a 'good man'.
He's threatening me?
Let me find just one piece of evidence...
I'll crush you like a mosquito in my hand.
Hey, Azhagu, come on, let's go.
Take good care of him...
I meant the child.
I'll take care of Dhruv.
You should leave.
I don't want you to have
any trouble because of me.
This village has said much worse just
because I'm from the Dasarathan bloodline.
His words mean nothing.
This might be new to you.
For me, this is just a way of life.
Dhruv has been crying all day
and now he has a fever.
Please, take him to the hospital.
The child has a slight lung congestion.
- Cheraya!
- Sir!
Tell me, sir.
- Give the child a PCM injection.
- Okay, sir.
- Come on, come on. It's nothing.
- Careful.
Okay, okay.
It's fine, it's fine.
Tell me.
Sir, did you get the news?
The Kerala police have
encountered the masked psycho.
That's not all, sir.
They've closed all the cases here,
claiming he's the one who
committed all the murders.
'A life-convict who escaped
from Kerala's Punalur prison,'
'known as The Masked Psycho Kannaayiram,'
'has been encountered. And in the
controversy surrounding the encounter,'
'the police team led by CI Mathew '
'appeared before the
Human Rights Commission office today.'
'When masked psycho Kannayiram,
who was caught during a vehicle check,'
'attempted to attack
the policemen and escape,'
'the policemen fired
back in self-defense,'
'resulting in the masked psycho
Kannaayiram dieing on the spot.'
Sir!
Sir, I need to see the Inspector
about something important.
Azhagu!
Sir.
- Tell the Inspector that Paari sir is here.
- Okay, sir.
Sir, I have court duty.
I'll be back soon.
Just sit here for a while.
Please, sir.
Sir, Paari sir is here to see you.
Why is he here?
He'll only spoil my mood.
Tell him to wait. I'll come.
- Okay, sir.
- Yes, my dear...
At what time does your
husband go to work at night?
- Sir.
- Hmm?
He wants you to wait for a while.
Hmm.
- Sir! Please stop... sir...
- Yes, my dear.
Happy now?
I'll call you back later.
I need to talk to you about
something important.
What is it?
Reopen the case of that psycho killer.
He has absolutely no connection
to the murders that happened here.
Are you working even
during your suspension?
On what basis
are you saying that the psycho killer
has no connection to these murders?
That dead psycho killer had a wooden leg.
Look at these photos.
These are the footprints taken
when he came to the station.
They are size 11.
How can both footprints be the same size
if the person has a wooden leg?
This case cannot be reopened.
It's not in my hands to do anything.
Sir! Do you understand
what I am telling you?
I'm telling you that the murderer
is still roaming free outside.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
This case is over!
If losing your wife
is keeping you up at night,
just have a drink and
go to sleep, alright?
Stop driving me crazy.
Oh, look, a master detective
solving a crime.
If we reopen this case like you're saying,
your wife was sitting in the middle of
the house talking to some stranger.
Why?
I'll tell you myself.
There was a connection between
Maideen and your wife.
Once you found that out,
you killed them both yourself,
I'll frame you for everything and claim you
tried to pin the whole mess on the psycho.
and lock you away.
Are you okay with that?
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey!
- Sir, sir!
- Sir, please calm down!
- Sir, let him go.
- Sir, calm down please.
Sir.. sir...
This is a police station, sir.
Please control yourself.
- Please sir...
- Let go of my hand!
I said let go!
You dare touch an officer
while he's on duty?
I'm not going to let you
get away with this.
Don't worry, sir.
I'll ensure everything is handled
without any further issues.
No, sir.
I'll handle it.
Thank you.
Have a seat, Paari.
Sit down.
Okay.
I've called you here because
we need to discuss a critical case.
Tell me, sir.
They said the Kerala police had
'encountered' that masked psycho.
We thought that case was closed.
But yesterday,
Inspector Samraj called and said
someone in a mask tried to
attack him inside his own home.
You were the one who said the masked psycho
wasn't involved in the Mekkarai case.
So, I've decided to appoint you
as the inquiry officer for this very case.
Please take care.
Thank you, sir.
- Sir!
- Yes, sir?
I want all the files on the serial
killer's cases. Every single one.
Sir... the case was closed...
I didn't close it.
Please don't take this the wrong way, sir.
Ever since you started
working on this case,
things have gone wrong,
both for this town and for you.
Please, I beg you, don't reopen it.
Five murders!
All following the same pattern, sir.
With the evidence in our hands,
how can a policeman sleep
peacefully without solving it?
I haven't slept in a long time, sir.
Until I find out whose
footprints those are,
I'm not letting this case go, sir.
Sir, without a single clue to go on,
with just a pair of footprints,
how on earth do you expect
to identify the accused?
Forget about identifying the suspect
with the footprints for now.
Can't we use these same footprints to prove
the killer didn't commit all these murders?
I'm not in favour of you
taking this case back up.
Whether you agree or not,
this is my order!
You must obey it.
And this goes for all of you!
I want those serial killer files
on my table in half an hour.
- Is that clear?
- Understood, sir.
Azhagu!
Sir.
Tell me exactly what happened the night
that psycho came to the police station.
A policeman should never
handle a case emotionally.
That's exactly what
I did in Umayal's case.
There's something I'm missing here.
'With all this rain and
the constant chill,'
'everyone in this village
sticks to black tea, sir.'
Why are we going to Kerala, sir?
Last time when I went to Kerala,
three murders happened here.
He hit the church, the station,
and even my house.
Could it be...
that he was just diverting me to keep me
from finding out about Joseph?
Until I find out what that is,
this case won't move an inch.
And there's more.
When Umayal and Maideen were murdered,
there was a third person in my house.
That third person must be
someone both Umayal and I knew.
We don't know who he is,
but he clearly knows exactly who we are.
Azhagu!
Sir?
Sir, 40 lakh rupees have been
credited to Joseph's account.
Check the date.
The 30th, sir.
When did Joseph go missing?
On the 1st, sir.
Sir...
Come, let's go.
- Hey, come on!
- Hey, run!
Who are they, sir?
Why are they attacking us?
It was all for this.
If I'm right,
this money is the motive behind
every single murder here.
What do we do now, sir?
I'm about to host a feast.
'14th-day funeral rites'
Hey!
Who gave you permission to
beat the drum without my orders, huh?
Just a minute!
Son, this town has its own rules.
Because you refuse to
abide by them and run wild,
this whole town is now soaked in blood.
Hmm!
That psycho killer isn't responsible
for the murders in Mekkarai.
It was one of you.
And it was all for the money
Joseph won in Kerala.
Who's behind these murders...
we'll find out today!
Listen up, everyone!
Nobody leaves this place until
Paari sir finishes his investigation!
Do you understand?
"The clan of the wicked shall tremble,
At this whirlwind storm!"
"Closing the grip on the enemy's throat,
The time has come!"
"The game of dice that breaks the
enemy's patience, The time has come!"
"The hands of the brave rise in defiance,
The time has come!"
"Palpitate in fear, Torture and suffer,
Caught in the web, Like a wildfire!"
"Burn the enemy, Sever the head,
The time for the sacrifice, Has come!"
"Shattered fate, Striking like thunder,
The dance of terror, Has begun!"
"Life ends, Breath departs,
The time for the grave, Has come!"
"Here comes the tiger!
The fox will tremble!"
"Here comes the wrath!
The enemy's story... is ending now!"
"Hold your ground, if you can!
Touch me if you dare!"
"Your end is sealed!
The enemy's game... is ending now!"
Yes, Azhagu.
They're running out
of patience over here, sir.
You're the only one
who can handle this mess.
Serve tea to everyone.
Okay, sir.
I'm on my way.
"The arrogance that believes,
None can defeat me!"
"Will destroy itself.
The fire, the power, rises!"
"The belief that,
None dare question me!"
"Leads to the dark path,
Consuming the town!"
"Here comes the tiger!
The fox will tremble!"
"Here comes the wrath!
The enemy's story... is ending now!"
"Stop me if you can!"
Sir, only Naadukaathan, my father,
Sandhanakili, Mayandi, and Mani brother
are the ones who drink milk tea.
Hmm.
Put all of them under
immediate surveillance.
Hmm.
I've started.
Sir...
the lights are on
at the village head's house.
What's that in your hand, sir?
Sir, please hear me out.
Hmm.
It's money, sir.
How did you get this money, sir?
Sir...
I trust it won't come to me
having to drag you to the station.
I took out a bank loan for
Dharani's wedding expenses, sir.
It was during that slight delay...
that I saw Dr. Willey
at the hospital and asked,
'If you know anyone who could get me a loan
at a low interest rate, could you help?'
That's where I met Mugilan
for the first time.
Then, I met Mugilan later at the tea shop.
I overheard you talking to Dr. Willey.
I know someone who is lending
money at a low interest rate
let me know if you need some,
I'll get it for you.
Hmm. Talk to him and let me know.
And then what happened?
The next day, Mugilan called
and said the money was ready.
He told me to come to the
Red Sand Trail to collect it, sir.
I asked him, 'Why there?
The person giving the
money is from Kerala.
He said he was in a rush
to leave for his hometown,
so he asked me to meet him
on this route, sir.
You said the Keralite would come here.
He's been here the whole time.
He just left.
He left the money with me.
Here.
Just make sure to pay the interest
to me on time every month.
Hmm. Okay...
When you said yesterday that Joseph
might have been killed for the money,
and that the money
hadn't left Mekkarai yet...
I got scared, sir.
I called Mugilan immediately.
His phone was switched off, sir.
Then I went directly to his house, sir.
He wasn't at home, sir.
They said he had gone out for work.
Looking at all this,
I got scared that it might
be stolen money, sir.
I knew the money meant trouble.
So, I called my friend
Sanjeevan in Kerala.
I told him to find that man
Mugilan talked about
and hand this over to him, no matter what.
Call Sanjeevan.
- Sir!
- Hmm?
Turn on the loudspeaker.
Tell me, Antony.
Has the vehicle left?
Yes, it has started.
Alright, Antony.
I'll talk to him and take it.
Okay, sir.
You can go.
Sir.
After all the trouble we
went through to catch him,
you just let him go
that easily, sir?
We could have taken Antony sir to the
station and interrogated him, sir.
No.
No, Azhagu.
There's some truth in
what Antony sir says.
A policeman wouldn't make
such a careless mistake.
Could it be that Mugilan
committed the murder
and took the money
himself, sir?
No.
I don't think Mugilan is responsible
for all the murders that happened here.
That one clue we
had proved useless.
How are we going to
close this case now, sir?
Keep our suspects under
constant surveillance.
We'll wait and see what they do.
Alright, sir.
I'm leaving.
'Paari, sir.'
'Sir, the violin music...
it's playing near the church again.'
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'Paari, that psycho killer is
standing outside our home!'
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Sir?
Isn't she the one who claimed
she saw the killer in daylight?
Yes, sir.
Kani is the only one who saw
the psycho in broad daylight.
Why didn't I question her?
Please, forgive me.
Kani!
Kani!
Kani!
Sir!
- Huh?
- Huh?
Sir?
Tell me, sir.
Sir, can you watch over
Dhruv until morning?
Why are you asking like that?
Give him to me, sir.
Sir.
Leaving the child behind
in the middle of the night...
...is it something important?
Sir, I'm starting to suspect that Kani
might be the one behind all these murders.
How could Kani possibly have
committed all these murders, sir?
Sir, Kani might not have
committed these murders herself.
But there's no way she
doesn't know what's going on.
What makes you say that?
Sir...
The church, the police
station, the house,
the psycho killer only
struck at night.
Azhagu, the Father, and I
are the witnesses to that.
But Maideen and Umayal
were murdered in broad daylight.
If no one else in town
saw this 'psycho killer,'
how is it possible that Kani
saw him in the middle of the day?
Sir.
Except for Aaron and Umayal,
the only person connected to Jessica,
Joseph, Mary, and Maideen, is Kani.
Kani never lets Dhruv
out of her sight.
If she left him alone today
and didn't even lock the door,
it means she knows
I'm onto her, sir.
This could just be my
own speculation, sir.
To know if all this
is true or a lie,
we need to make
Kani speak.
That is why I'm going
after her, sir.
Sir, just a minute.
I will also come with you, sir.
Sir!
It's Mugilan.
- Hello.
- Brother.
Look up the records for
everyone leaving town today.
See if Kani's name is there.
Sir...
No one has descended
the hill after 6:00 PM, sir.
She's not here,
and she's not there.
Where could she be?
'Is there any way out of the village
besides the checkpost?'
'There is one, sir.
The Red Sand Trail.'
'But nobody uses that
trail anymore, sir.'
The Red Sand Trail.
Sir, get down and see
if you can push a little.
Move it!
Sir, get Azhagu and bring
the jeep, somehow.
- I'm going ahead on foot.
- Hmm.
That game you played
to outsmart fate?
It's led you to
your downfall!
Please forgive me, Paari.
Please forgive me.
It was a mistake.
Sir!
Kani...
Kani!
All I ever wanted was
a chance to live, Paari.
What do we do now, sir?
Sir.
I'm heading down
the hill to find Anna.
Please, take care of
Dhruv until I return.
Okay, sir.
Until the festival ends,
no one can know Kani is dead.
We have to identify
the killer before then.
Where do we hide this body?
Sir...
There's no one at
my place, sir.
Can we hide it there?
'On the 30th day,
a grand ceremony'
Anna...
She's got her TC and left.
When did they come and get it, sir?
On the 19th.
Do you know who came to collect it?
Anna's mother.
And... there was another
man with her.
Do you remember
what he looked like?
I didn't get a good
look at him.
He was also a
policeman like you.
A policeman?
Okay, sir.
Thank you.
- Hello.
- Dharani!
Can you check who was on leave
at the station on June 19, 2007?
One minute, sir.
My father was on leave, sir.
Sir!
Hello, sir?
Okay, Dharani.
Hello.
Come in, Azhagu.
Come inside.
One minute.
Hello?
Hell... hello.
This damn signal!
Paari sir asked me to
bring both you and Dhruv.
But he said he would come
and pick up Dhruv himself.
Okay.
Sit down. I'll go put on
a shirt and be right back.
'We could have taken Antony sir to the
station and interrogated him, sir.'
'No.'
'No, Azhagu.'
'There's some truth in
what Antony sir says.'
I was afraid that
all the reputation I've built...
and my daughter's life
would be ruined, sir.
'A policeman wouldn't make
such a careless mistake.'
'I didn't get a good
look at him.'
'He was also a policeman like you.'
'All I ever wanted was
a chance to live, Paari.'
'He was also a policeman like you.'
- Dharani.
- Yes, sir?
18-06-2007.
Could you check the logs and
see who was on duty that night?
Okay, sir.
Azhagu...
It was Azhagu, sir.
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'I'm all alone here, sir.'
'Please, you have to do something!'
'Don't panic!'
'Get straight to the
weapon room and grab a gun.'
'If he gets close,
don't hesitate... shoot!'
'I'll take full responsibility
for whatever happens.'
'Yes, sir! I'm on it.'
So...
is the killer right
here with us, sir?
Yes, tell me, Dharani.
Dad, is Azhagu there?
Yes.
He's here saying Paari sir sent him
to pick up me and the child.
Dad, listen to me
for a second!
I think Paari sir suspects Azhagu is
behind all the murders happening here.
Don't go with him.
Stay right where you are.
I'm leaving right now.
Okay, dear.
I'll handle it.
Okay.
Sir.
Sir!
Sir!
Hey, Azhagu!
Where are you going
at this hour?
Paari sir's jeep broke down,
so he asked me to come.
That's why I'm heading
out at this hour.
But he gave strict orders not to let
any vehicles down the hill.
Alright, hold on a second.
Let me talk to Paari sir.
Hmm.
The call isn't going through.
Go ahead!
Azhagu!
Thank God!
You...
I can't believe it's you... the Satan!
I'm stunned!
June 30th.
That book... it won't
spare you either...
Oh God...
'Sir, can you watch over
Dhruv until morning?'
You don't need to hide behind
that mask anymore,
Azhagu!
What did you do to my dad?
He's dead.
Go join your father and Aaron
in the place they've gone to.
Water...
'Everyone puts a
ring on a baby.'
'Why are you so adamant about
putting a chain on him?'
'If it's a ring, it might hurt him
as he grows, right?'
'I always want to give him
nothing but happiness.'
'That is why I've put
the ring on a chain.'
Azhagu...
Paari sir...
Sir... sir!
Sir!
Sir!
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
I will ask Vanamangai!
Why create such a cold-hearted woman,
and made her stand right before me.
Three years have passed...
since I confessed my love to you.
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger, Kani.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
Was it really you who called?
Is that why it's
raining so hard?
Get up!
"My God hunts,
a storm unleashed!"
"Setting fire to grudges
that never ceased!"
"With a spear in hand,
she guards our land!"
"As the camphor burns,
the fever climbs, across the sands!"
"It's Vanamangai!
She's my Huntress so wild!"
"A mother who saves
the sorrowed child!"
"A blade that strikes
just dare to touch!"
"One step inside,
and the enemy's dust!"
"Wielding her mighty her sword,
she strikes them down!"
"Like rain from the heavens,
she claims the crown!"
"When evil rises,
she burns the toll!"
"Clearing the sins
and the broken soul!"
"Fierce as a wildfire,
swift as the breeze!"
"The wicked foxes burn,
brought to their knees!"
"The form of the Forest Mother,
rising high!"
"Her Vishwaroopam
making the world cry!"
"My God hunts,
a storm unleashed!"
"Setting fire to grudges
that never ceased!"
"With a spear in hand,
she guards our land!"
"As the camphor burns,
the heat is grand!"
"It's Vanamangai!
My Huntress true!"
"A mother for those
who are born anew!"
"A blade that strikes
just dare to touch!"
"One step inside,
and the enemy's dust!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
"She's the ruthless Huntress!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
Azhagu will take good care
of Anna and me.
We've decided to leave
this town for good.
You've already made up
your mind, haven't you?
Then why bring
this garbage to me?
I get it now.
Is this why you sent
Anna away to study?
Have you no shame?
Disgusting!
Is it just him,
or is someone else tagging along?
Hey!
Azhagu, let him go!
Let him go, Azhagu!
Joseph was supposed to
meet me here this morning.
- but he still hasn't shown up.
- Joseph!
I heard your voice in the background
when he was boarding the bus.
Shall we go together?
Azhagu?
Take this five lakhs.
Make sure no one ever
finds out what happened here.
'A psycho killer from Kerala had
escaped from the Kerala Punaloor prison.'
'The police suspect he could be
hiding in Mekkarai village.'
I need you to do
me a small favour.
What favour?
'The radio news mentioned that
a psycho killer from Kerala had escaped,'
'and the description they gave
matched the figure I had seen.'
Paari sir, this is Mary.
Jessica left saying she was
going to see Azhagu brother.
Okay, Mary.
I will pass on the word that Azhagu was
the last person Jessica saw, to Paari sir.
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
Sir... sir... I'm all alone here
in the station, sir.
I'm scared, sir.
I really don't know
what to do, sir!
I'm really scared, sir.
I'm really scared, sir.
I thought Jessica
was the only one you killed.
But you've been on a spree,
Joseph, Mary... you just keep going.
If you want me to keep my
mouth shut about all of this,
you're going to have to pay me
exactly what I'm asking for.
You've seen something
you shouldn't have.
Now, it's either you
or this child.
You decide.
So... tell me.
Is the future actually written
in The Dark Heaven book?
And if Dr. Willey is dead,
then where did the book go?
What happened to
the curse on that village?
How about we grab a tea and discuss
where the story goes from here?
'Mekkarai Village
Year 1979'
Hello!
Hey, Jones!
Did you pick up the book I asked for?
Yes, I've got it set aside
for you, brother.
It's raining really hard.
Could you come and pick it up
tomorrow morning, brother?
No, no. Um...
there's a four-day holiday
for Saraswathi Pooja, so...
I'll come over and pick it up then.
- Alright?
- Okay, brother.
What are you doing?
Come and get back to work!
We need to head home before
the rain gets any worse.
Why don't we just open
this box and see what's inside?
Have you lost your mind?
Sir told us not to even go near that box.
Don't you remember?
We've been working here for six years.
We know everything this shop has,
except for this box.
If he's telling us not to touch it,
there must be something in there, right?
Hey, Vela! Listen to me.
Come here.
If sir said something,
there will be a reason for it.
If you keep living in fear
just because sir said so,
we'll be stuck cleaning
dirty vessels forever.
I've made up my mind.
I have to know what's inside this.
Vela... don't do it, Vela!
I warn you, don't break it open!
Listen to me, Vela.
What, man...
no matter how hard I hit it,
it just won't break.
Something doesn't feel right.
Don't break it!
Hey! Don't run, Vela!
Stop!
Hey, Jones!
Where did he go?
Okay...
Pechi, open the door!
Hey, Pechi!
Coming!
What happened, dear?
Why are you so late today? Hmm?
Of all days, I had to go to the
Othaipaalam Book Shop today,
and it just poured.
That's why I got late.
Alright.
- Come on, I'll serve dinner.
- Dinner? Wait, wait.
I had a feast at the manager's house,
I'm completely full.
- Alright, let's go to sleep.
- Sleep?
I have exams coming up.
I need to take some notes.
You go ahead and lie down.
I'll come join you later, okay?
- Okay, but finish up soon, hmm?
- Alright.
My name is Oliver Robert.
I am a writer from France.
My job is to travel around the world
in search of supernatural phenomena
and reveal to the world
what is happening there.
Mekkarai was a village that hid such
a supernatural secret within itself.
I opened my diary to write about
the supernatural events
happening in that village,
but something else happened.
Opening the diary is all I remember.
Yet, the diary was already written in...
even though I hadn't written anything.
Moreover, what was written in that diary
was not about what had
happened in Mekkarai until then,
but about what was going
to happen in the days to come.
If you have the courage beyond this point,
read this book further.
Because for you, the reader of this book,
this might be your last day.
- Hello.
- Sir, sir...
I am calling from the
Tirunelveli Central Library, sir.
Sir, at 6:15 this morning,
our Chief Minister
is going to suffer a heart attack.
Please, somehow save him!
Are you serious?
You people used to get drunk
and call the police station,
and now you've started
calling the CM's PA too?
If one more call comes from you,
I'm filing a police complaint, mind it.
Cut the call!
Sir, sir, sir...
Hello.
Please, sir, just listen
to what I have to say.
Hey, don't you understand?
Cut the call!
Sir, please just listen to this
one thing I have to say. I beg you.
It's really important.
Speak.
One way or another, you're going
to look for me today morning.
My name is Manikam.
Tirunelveli Central Library.
'For the upcoming
World Cup cricket series,'
'Venkata Raghavan has been selected
as the captain of the Indian team.'
'An important announcement.'
'Chief Minister Tamilvaanan, who had gone
to his hometown of Mekkarai for a vacation,'
'has been admitted to the hospital
due to a sudden heart attack.'
'As a result, his party supporters'
'are gathering in large numbers
in front of the hospital.'
How did you know about the CM's
heart attack before it even happened?
Will you speak when asked,
or will you only say it if you're
asked in a certain way?
Hmm?
Read this, Alli.
My name... how do you...
Read this,
and you will get all the answers.
Eh... do you have
any other copies of this book?
Eh... yes, how much of this book
have you read so far?
Until you...
become the Chief Minister.
Does anyone else know about this?
Alright.
Don't say a word to anyone outside
about this, or anything that happened here
If you as much as whisper about it,
you won't have breath left to live.
Understand?
Hey?!
Why are you laughing now?
Hey!
It's Inspector Manjunathan who is
going to take me away from here, isn't it?
Hmm?
Hey, tell me the truth!
Just how much of this book have you read?
Page 74, line 13.
By the order of Alli,
Manikam, a native of Mekkarai,
was burned to death
by Inspector Manjunathan!

I came here to interview a madman,
now I'm the one going insane.
It's been four days.
All I've done is watch his house.
He doesn't seem to be opening the door,
and she doesn't seem to be leaving either.
Wait, I'll call you right back.
What do you want?
I want to know about the Dark Heaven book.
Why go knocking on Satan's door?
You look young.
Forget everything and just leave.
Just a minute!
What?
My father's name is Manikam.
My hometown is Mekkarai.
Now tell me.
Will you tell me about that book?
Or not?
Rex Rutherford.
One of India's greatest writers.
Rex, the renowned writer, won the 'Sahitya
Akademi' award at such a young age.
You were a young prodigy.
Why did you just vanish after
talking about The Dark Heaven?
Even in this age of rapid
scientific advancement,
we still discuss Nostradamus's prophecies.
There are many unbelievable stories here.
Some people call them myths.
Some of those stories...
are rooted in belief.
And Mekkarai is a place that believes
in them with absolute conviction.
'Mekkarai Village
Year 2007'
You've got your engagement today,
do you really need to work, Aaron?
It's 6:30 already.
Don't be late for your own engagement
just because you're trying
to be on time for work.
I'll make it on time.
I'm just terrified of whether I'll even
make it through this month of June.
Your heart is good, Aaron.
Goddess Vanamangai
will surely be kind to you.
Huh... I hope she does.
- Aaron, check who that is.
- Huh?
Hmm.
'Mekkarai Security Checkpost'
Who are you going to see inside?
I'm Aaron, the constable, sir,
Mekkarai police station.
Greetings, sir!
I'm Senthil Kumar, the writer.
Aaron, lift it!
Why on earth did he come to this
place with his family this month?
- Blood pressure is slightly high.
- Huh.
Don't worry.
I'm writing down three tablets.
Take them twice a day, morning and night.
But you need to get some rest.
You're telling a policeman
to take rest, doctor?
I need to be mentally strong to handle
what's about to unfold, doctor.
The dreadful month of June,
which comes once every seven years,
begins today.
Nothing's going to happen.
Leave it to Goddess Vanamangai
and focus on the engagement.
Hmm, sure, doctor.
And... one more thing.
Go on.
I've been trying to borrow
money for Dharani's wedding.
- It's getting a bit delayed.
- Hmm.
If you know anyone who could get me a loan
at a low interest rate, could you help?
Hmm... I will arrange.
Okay, doctor.
Why the long face now?
I'm talking to you.
- When will uncle come, mom?
- He'll come soon.
You're just lying to me.
Don't get involved in grown- up problems.
Just focus on your studies.
Hmm.
When you come here next time,
your uncle will definitely be here.
- Now go and study well. Hmm?
- Hmm!
Why does Dharani look so dull?
Hasn't she forgotten the past yet?
What happened to her
is not something easily forgotten.
Don't worry, I'll take care of it.
- Maragatham!
- Hmm?
The bike's having some trouble.
Eh... I'll drop it off at
Sandhanakili's shed,
then head over to the Big house for a bit.
To the Big House?!
Just a minute.
Why are you going to the Big house now?
A new Inspector has arrived.
I'll go see him and be right back.
Be safe.
Hmm.
My dear Goddess Vanamangai...
This is a story we have grown up
hearing for generations.
Every time the month of June
approaches after those seven years,
the people of this village stand here,
having lost their peace for the entire year.
Have you decided that everyone
born as a human is a sinner, Mother?
Oh my dear Goddess...
at least with this generation,
please put an end to your vengeance.
We've picked the auspicious time for the
first day's ritual, between 9:00 and 10:30
Hand this over to the new Inspector.
Isn't Sandhanakili here?
He went to the station to
get some vehicle repaired, sir.
He'll be back shortly.
Okay.
Hey, go get that jeep started.
Sir, how can I?
You're the mechanic here! Move!
They're asking me to start a jeep
that hasn't run in seven years...
in just seven minutes.
Sir, here are the keys.
You can drive it now.
Please move over a little.
You get on.
Bye!
Brother... Brother... Brother, wake up!
Hey, what happened?
Martin!
- What's up, Azhagu?
- Sir!
- Looks like the jeep is ready?
- Yes, sir.
The new Inspector
is coming today, isn't he?
Oh, yes.
- Where are you going?
- I'm going to the Big house, sir.
Wait, I will also come.
- What did you even fix on this jeep?
- Why, sir?
It's still really hard to shift gears.
I've got tons of wedding work.
Fix it fast.
Sir, you still owe me
4,300 rupees from before...
Am I going anywhere?
I'll pay you after the wedding.
- Okay?
- Okay, sir.
Welcome, son.
My name is Naadukaathan.
I am the village headman here.
We received the news
of your arrival a bit late.
I have done my best
to clean the house for you.
If there is anything wrong, let me know,
and I will send someone to help. Okay?
Oh, sir, you have already done so much.
I will manage the rest.
And one more important thing.
Tell me.
Oh Mother Vanamangai!
You must be with us and protect us.
No, sir.
I don't believe in all this.
Look, this village follows
certain customs.
I am telling you this for
your own good, just accept it.
No, I don't want it.
Paari... he's saying it
for your own benefit.
Just take it.
This village isn't what you think it is.
Go, place this in the prayer room.
Look, look, look at that!
Let's have a look at that
photo over there.
Sir.
Please come in.
- Sir!
- Sir!
Sir, I am Antony.
I am the SI at our station.
Sir, I'm Azhagu, the constable.
Please, sit down.
- Would you like some tea or coffee?
- No, it's fine, sir. We're good.
I have fixed my daughter's engagement.
My son-in-law is also
a PC at our station, sir.
I heard you were arriving.
So, I thought I'd come by to
see you once... and invite you, sir.
- Time?
- Around 11 a.m., sir.
I will come.
- Okay, sir...
- Sir, the jeep driver is on leave.
If you want,
I can drive the jeep for you.
No, I'll drive it myself.
I'll call you if I need anything.
Okay, sir.
The key, sir.
- I will also leave, sir.
- Hmm.
"A hidden forest, dark and deep,
Waiting for a sacrifice to keep..."
"A ghost is near to seal your fate,
And drag you to your funeral gate..."
"Your heart will shake with sudden dread,
Death is coming for the dead..."
"Run and hide, there's nowhere to go,
The demon comes with a thunder blow..."
"A hidden forest, dark and deep,
Waiting for a sacrifice to keep..."
"A ghost is near to seal your fate,
And drag you to your funeral gate..."
Every engagement house I've visited
has been filled with happiness.
But here, I don't see
a single person smiling.
That's a long story, sir.
A story?
It's not a story of a year or two, sir.
It's a story spanning
hundreds of years, sir.
The people of Mekkarai lived happily,
doing agriculture in nature's embrace.
Within this very village
lived eighteen-year-old Vanamangai,
revered as a living goddess by the folk,
alongside Dasarathan,
a master of ancient arts.
One day, sensing
through her divine powers
that Mekkarai was about
to suffer a massive famine,
Vanamangai decided to save the village.
Without telling anyone,
she left the mountain, went down,
and immersed herself in intense
penance at the Shiva temple.
The people of the village searched
high and low for Vanamangai,
but she was nowhere to be found.
Years passed.
Just as Vanamangai had dreaded,
a severe drought struck Mekkarai,
robbing them of rain and harvest,
plunging them into utter famine.
Believing that Vanamangai leaving
the village was the reason for the famine,
the villagers decided to leave
the village of Mekkarai.
At that moment, Dasarathan
stepped forward and said,
"Do not leave the mountains.
Just wait 21 days.
I will fast for the Goddess
and bring the rains back to this village."
The villagers agreed.
The 21st day arrived.
The villagers kept their eyes on the sky,
hoping for rain.
Suddenly, to everyone's surprise,
after seven long years,
Vanamangai returned to the village.
And with her, the rain began to pour.
Believing that rain came back only
because Vanamangai returned,
the villagers praised and celebrated her.
Dasarathan was absolutely furious that
all the honor and respect meant for him
went straight to Vanamangai instead.
Dasarathan teamed up with his aunt
Kovazhagi and cooked up a wicked plan.
That same night, he met the village head
and claimed the rain was actually
because of his ritual,
and that Vanamangai is pregnant
without even getting married.
Hearing this, the village head was
shocked and refused to believe it.
But Dasarathan swore it
was the absolute truth,
warning him that if that unholy child
survived to see the sunrise tomorrow,
it would spell total destruction
for the village with no turning back.
After that, the village head
sent the medicine lady Kovazhagi
to check Vanamangai's pulse
and see if she was pregnant.
She checked the pulse and came back,
lying that Vanamangai was pregnant.
Hearing that, the village head was
utterly shocked and shattered.
When the village head asked
what needed to be done,
Dasarathan replied,
"Burning that demon is the only way."
While Vanamangai was sleeping at home,
Dasarathan, with the
help of the villagers,
set fire to Vanamangai's house.
The fire caught and blazed.
Vanamangai screamed for help,
but no one came.
When Dasarathan told her what happened,
Vanamangai was filled with great anger.
'This village doubted the very girl
who lived and breathed for them!
Now, as I die in these flames,
I leave you with a curse!
For every seven years, the sixth month
which falls once every year,
men in this village will meet
a brutal, horrific death!'
Shouting this,
she let the fire consume her.
In that same month,
that Dasarathan was found
mysteriously dead,
in his vomit pool of blood
on that red sand road.
In the days that followed,
the village head and other men in town
started dropping dead
under mysterious circumstances.
Everyone started believing
that the curse cast by Vanamangai
was the reason for all this.
Because of this,
all the villagers gathered
to appease her anger,
they built a temple for Vanamangai
and started worshipping her.
Despite their prayers and devotion,
while the number of men dying decreased,
the mysterious deaths never truly stopped.
The villagers completely
ostracized Dasarathan's kin,
cutting all ties with his family.
As time passed,
among Dasarathan's family line,
only Kani was left alive
as the last person.
Martin Sir loved Kani with all his heart.
He considered Kani his entire world
and was determined to marry her.
Neither the villagers
nor Father Christopher, who had
raised him, accepted his decision.
Undeterred by their opposition,
Martin Sir decided to marry Kani
and leave the village forever.
Kani and Martin Sir began
their life together in happiness.
But fate has a way of
catching up to everyone.
Martin Sir received a posting
as an Inspector in Mekkarai,
and he moved into that grand, Big house.
And in the very month
of the dreaded curse, June.
I am married to you now,
so the curse of Dasarathan's lineage
shouldn't touch me anymore, right?
Will you take me to see the Goddess?
Even if the entire village
stands against us,
I will take you to
Vanamangai's temple myself.
Driven by Kani's desire to
pay her respects to Vanamangai,
Martin sir drove her
to the temple in his jeep.
As Kani stood in awe,
gazing at the idol of Vanamangai,
a sudden, piercing scream
shattered the silence.
Kani rushed to see what had happened,
only to find Martin sir lifeless
in the driver's seat of the jeep.
The villagers began to blame
Kani for Martin's death.
Seven years have passed since that day,
and today is the first time
we are finally moving that jeep.
Sir, here's your tea.
Oh!
So, is this why no other inspector
is willing to come to this village?
Yes, sir.
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Yes, sir?
Don't you get milk tea here?
With all this rain and the constant chill,
everyone in this village
sticks to black tea, sir.
The moment Paari
learned about that village,
he couldn't have imagined
that the remaining days of that June
would leave his
entire life scarred forever.
'Thenmala
Kerala'
Hey!
You're going there tomorrow anyway.
Let's just talk in person then.
The time for the last bus is almost here.
Come on, go take a bath and
get ready, and you'll be just in time.
Alright, fine then.
Let's meet tomorrow.
Be safe.
I'll take care of it, Bhai.
The bus has arrived
Stay on the line
When did he call you?
It must be around 6.15.
Is there any way to leave the village
other than through the check post?
There is, sir.
There's a red sand trail.
But nobody uses it these days, sir.
Why?
The villagers say that
Dasarathan's spirit wanders there,
and on top of that, they claim you can
hear a man weeping there every Friday, sir
Greetings, sir.
Sit down.
What you're about to
tell me is very sensitive.
Okay, sir.
So, tell me clearly exactly what you saw.
I went out to milk the cows at 4:15 this
morning when I heard the sound of a violin
I couldn't tell who it was.
When I looked at the corner of the street,
I saw a tall figure standing there.
I asked who it was,
but there was no reply.
So, I just headed back home
for my usual coffee.
Later, the radio news mentioned that
a psycho killer from Kerala had escaped,
and the description they gave
matched the figure I had seen.
Have you told this to anyone else?
I haven't told a soul, sir.
Alright.
Don't tell anyone else
what you just told me.
Understood, sir.
- We'll take care of this.
- Okay, sir.
- You may go now.
- I'll leave, sir.
Attention everyone!
Inspector of Mekkarai
has put out an urgent warning
that a masked psycho
from Kerala has escaped
and is roaming around this very area!
So if you spot anyone new
carrying a violin or wearing a mask,
report it to the police immediately!
The case that started in Kerala
reached Mekkarai.
And it...
reached Paari's hands.
Her name?
Jessica, sir.
What are you to this girl?
I am her guardian.
She is growing up in our home, sir.
Does the girl have any love interests?
As far as I know,
there isn't anything like that, sir.
But it could be going on
without your knowledge, right?
Sir... she's such a good girl.
How long has the girl been missing?
Mary said she's been gone
since 6:00 PM, sir.
- And who is Mary?
- She's Jessica's roommate.
She also grows up in our home.
You and Jessica are roommates, right?
Hmm. Yes, sir.
What time did you see her going out?
Around... 6:00 PM, sir.
Does she often go out and
come back late like this?
Not at all, sir.
Whenever she goes out,
she's always back home by 8:00.
What time did you tell the
Father that Jessica was missing?
Around... 11:15, sir.
Jessica never stays out past 8:00,
and here it is past 11:00.
Her phone is off, too.
Yet, you waited three hours
to tell the Father, why?
Mary!
Huh?
I can only help you if you
start telling me the truth.
They... they were really in love, sir.
Joseph and Jessica.
But Kani sister wouldn't agree
to their marriage at all.
I need to talk to you about
something important.
Go ahead, sister-in-law.
The Father came by our house.
What did he say?
Joseph, that girl Jessica is not for you.
You and my brother had
a love marriage, didn't you?
Why are you telling us
we can't do the same?
She's the only one I want.
I'm only going to marry her.
Joseph and Kani have been fighting
about this constantly ever since.
Not everyone gets what they want in life.
And even if they do...
there's no guarantee it will last.
Just listen to me.
You're not my mother,
so don't tell me who I can or can't marry.
You're just my sister-in-law.
After that,
Joseph brother left his home, sir.
He called her yesterday.
Meet me at the bus stand
tomorrow at 10 AM.
I'll be there too.
We'll get married
and start a new life together!
Marriage?
I don't get it.
There's nothing like that, sir.
- She's just babbling nonsense.
- Hmm!
Go on.
Jessica left, went to the bus stand,
and waited there for a long time.
But Joseph never showed up.
She tried calling him,
but his phone was switched off.
We even went to his house
and asked Kani sister.
She said he never came there.
We came back to our room,
and Jessica just kept crying, sir.
Then, around... 6:00 PM,
she said she was going to the shop
to buy sanitary pads.
She left... and she never came back.
Father, why did you hide the fact that
Jessica was in love with someone from me?
Sir...
I've already lost Martin.
I didn't want Jessica to get married
into Dasarathan's family again, sir.
I had already found a good match for her.
That's exactly why I didn't want
any of this to get out.
What's your name?
He's Peter, sir.
What do you do?
He takes care of all the
odd jobs around the church, sir.
Won't he tell me that himself?
We'll meet again, Father.
Hmm.
What happened, sir?
This girl, Mary,
is hiding something, Azhagu.
Something feels wrong.
What makes you say that, sir?
I can see so much fear in her eyes.
The guy Jessica was in love with...
his name is...
It's Joseph, sir!
He's our Martin sir's younger brother.
Where is his house?
It's nearby, sir.
Come, let's go.
Are you Kani?
Yes.
Hmm!
What happened, sir?
How is Joseph related to you?
He's my brother-in-law.
Do you know Jessica?
Yes, I know her.
Joseph and Jessica were planning
to get married today.
Do you know about that?
- I don't know, sir.
- Sir, I've checked.
There's no one inside.
Sir, who are you looking for?
Joseph.
He hasn't been here in six months.
He doesn't even talk to me anymore.
Why did you stop speaking?
I'm asking you!
He loved Jessica.
He was set on marrying her.
I told him no.
That day, he threw his plate
and walked out.
It's been six months.
He hasn't even come near this house since.
Why did you forbid Joseph
from marrying Jessica?
The way Jessica and Joseph are carrying on
is completely unacceptable, dear.
What happened?
I think they both are in love
with each other.
That's a good thing, Father.
Jessica is a very good girl.
I have no objection
to this at all, Father.
You may be okay with it, but...
But what?
I already lost a soul to the
Dasarathan family once.
I don't have the heart to watch
Jessica end up where you are today.
And that's not all.
- By breaking the rules of our village...
- That's enough, Father.
I understand.
Joseph won't speak to Jessica again.
That's exactly why I told him that.
Okay.
If either Jessica or Joseph
shows up in person
or calls,
inform the station immediately.
He won't come here.
But if he does,
you'll let me know, won't you?
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
Is Kani alone in that house?
No, sir.
Kani and her daughter Anna are there, sir.
I think Anna stays in a hostel
for her studies, sir.
How old is that girl?
She should be about 7 years old, sir.
Why does she need to stay
in a hostel at this age?
I don't know, sir.
Maybe she just doesn't want her daughter
to go through the hardships
she had to face.
- I'll see you in the morning.
- Okay, sir.
Paari sir, it's Mary.
I need to tell you something
important about Jessica in person.
I'll come to the station tomorrow morning.
Hey Mary, this is Azhagu.
Paari sir left his phone in the jeep.
- I'll let him know.
- Okay, brother.
I've only seen these kinds of
'psycho' stories in movies.
Is there any way you can catch him
before he strikes again?
What happened?
Hmm?
It's just...
Joseph came from Kerala
to see Jessica, and now he's gone.
Jessica was waiting for him,
and now she's missing too.
What if...
what if that psycho killer
did something to them?
No, no. Nothing like that
could have happened.
Just stop thinking about it for now
and have your dinner.
Sir.
Hmm?
Sir, you left your phone in the jeep.
Mary called.
She said it's something important and that
she'll come to the station in the morning.
We just saw her a little while ago.
- Go ahead, we'll talk in the morning.
- Okay, sir.
Who is it?
Sir.
It happened around 1:00 AM, sir.
He locked the Father's room from outside
and dragged Mary out of the church.
Forensics?
They're inside collecting
fingerprints as we speak, sir.
Tell me exactly what happened.
It was around 1:00 AM.
Suddenly, I heard a violin playing.
It was... unsettling, sir.
The power was out too.
I grabbed a torch to check it out,
- and then...
- And then?
I saw him, sir.
It was Satan, sir.
He... he was Satan himself, sir.
I was so terrified
I didn't know what to do,
so I ran and locked myself in my room.
I... I don't know
what happened after that, sir.
Peter only woke me up in the morning.
When I came to question Mary last night,
Peter was here, wasn't he?
Yes.
If he only woke you up in the morning,
where was Peter last night?
Answer me, Father.
I sent him to look for Jessica
down the hill.
How did you know for sure
she'd left the hill?
If you had already come down the hill,
why did you go back up immediately?
The jeep broke down on the way.
Sandhanakili helped tow it
and dropped me off here.
- Azhagu?
- I checked, sir.
Peter had gone down the hill at 12:30 AM.
Sandhanakili too went down at 4:00 AM.
Sir, Mani hasn't stopped anywhere.
He didn't pick up any scents,
and he absolutely didn't show
any indication of anything.
Hmm, you can go now.
Father.
Neither you nor Peter are to leave
the church without permission.
I'm telling you this for your own good.
Hmm.
- Azhagu!
- Yes, sir?
Announce throughout the village,
no one is to step outside after 6:00 PM.
Okay, sir.
Tell them to call the police
immediately if they hear a violin.
Okay, sir.
Put all our PCs on patrol.
Only two need to stay at the station.
Sir... has that serial killer
already entered the village?
Maybe.
But there's one thing I don't understand.
The Father complained
that Jessica was missing.
When we investigated,
Mary told us that Jessica
and Joseph were in love,
and they planned to get married today.
A little later, Mary called me
and said she had something
important to tell me.
And moments later, Mary went missing.
Joseph is the only name
connecting everything.
But no one knows where he is.
Only once we find Joseph
will we know if this
is a planned kidnapping
or the work of a serial killer.
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
Get all the details
about this serial killer
from the Kerala police immediately.
Okay, sir.
I'm going to look for Joseph.
The place where this case
really begins isn't Mekkarai...
it's Thenmalai!
As if the troubles we've had
this June weren't enough,
now we have this psycho killer.
I wonder what else is in store for us.
Anyway, forget about that.
Did you eat?
I've eaten
Huh?!
Why don't you tell them that
you don't need to work the night shift?
Wait, I'll call you right back!
- Yes, Father.
- Paari sir.
Sir, the violin music...
it's playing near the church again.
I think he's back, sir.
Father, don't be afraid!
There are already two PCs at the church,
they'll handle it.
I'm on my way.
- Hello.
- Hello!
Tell me, sir.
How many of you are at the station?
Sir... it's me and two other PCs.
Azhagu has gone to get dinner.
Leave Azhagu at the station,
and the three of you
leave for the church immediately!
What happened, sir?
They heard the violin sound
near the church again!
The Father just called.
All three of you, get there now!
Understood, sir.
Sir, what happened?
Sir told us to leave
for the church immediately.
Sir...
but what about the police who
were already on duty at the church?
- It started raining heavily on the way.
- Hmm.
That's why I'm late.
- Azhagu.
- Sir?
We got a call about some
violin music near the church.
Sir ordered all three of us
to head there immediately.
You stay here and man the station.
Understood?
Sir...
but me, all alone?
There's no other way, Azhagu.
You'll have to manage.
I'll be back as soon as I can.
Let's go.
Sir!
I don't think the jeep is going to start.
Get in first! Come on, get in!
- Hello!
- Sir!
Sir, it's me Azhagu!
Tell me, Azhagu.
Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!
I'm all alone here, sir.
Please, you have to do something!
Don't panic!
Get straight to the
weapon room and grab a gun.
If he gets close, don't hesitate... shoot!
I'll take full responsibility
for whatever happens.
Yes, sir! I'm on it.
Hello! What is it, Umayal?
Paari... Paari!
I heard the sound
of a violin outside the house.
I checked, and that psycho killer
is standing right there!
I'm very scared, Paari.
Come home right now! Please!
'Paari sir. The violin music...
it's playing near the church again.'
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'...and that psycho killer
is standing right there!'
Paari? Hello! Can you hear me?
Are you there? Can you hear me?
Paari? Can you hear... hello?
Hello?
It's okay... it's okay.
It's okay... it's okay.
Don't cry, mummy's here.
Ju... just stay here for a moment.
Mummy will be right back.
Oh Paari!
Paari... Paari!
Paari!
Paari...
Yes, Azhagu.
Oh my God!
Sir...
That's my Mary, sir...
My poor children...
Jessica...
Oh no, Jessica...
Oh my dear, Jessica...
What about Joseph?
Do you even know what you've done?
You had a most-wanted criminal, sought by
both the Tamil Nadu and Kerala police,
right in front of you
and you let him slip away!
Sir...
With that violin music playing...
- and the fear of seeing him right there...
- Hey!
Aren't you ashamed to say that?
An accused should be
terrified of the police!
If the police are afraid of the accused,
then it's time you take off that uniform
and go find some other job!
What the hell were you doing?
Someone walked into our station,
committed a murder, and left!
And you didn't have the guts
to stop him right then and there.
Now my superiors are breathing down my neck
asking me what the hell I've been doing!
Sorry, sir.
Every news station is running headlines
about the Mekkarai station today!
Breaking news!
And here you are, hanging your
head and offering a simple 'sorry.'
What am I supposed to do
with your 'sorry'...
Get the jeep, now!
Paari.
I had to suspend you so that
the issue wouldn't escalate.
Plus, the Kerala government is
pressing hard on this serial killer case.
They've requested special permission from
the CM's cell to interrogate you and Azhagu
It's a good thing you weren't
at the station that day,
or it would've been a huge problem.
Sir.
The murders happening here
have nothing to do with the psycho killer.
How can you say that?
The psycho killer has committed
19 murders so far.
Every single one follows the same pattern.
The victims have been killed by having
their throats slit with a violin string.
But the pattern of these local murders
has absolutely no connection to his.
Whether the psycho killer did it or not
is for the new Inspector to find out.
I can't just let it go that easily, sir.
He has come all the way to my house.
Stood right there in front of me
and looked at me with such defiance, like
he was daring me to do something about it.
I won't rest until I find out
who's behind these murders.
This case involves two states!
Don't do anything reckless and
get yourself into even deeper trouble.
First, just focus on getting back to duty.
Please, try to talk some sense into him.
He looks deeply depressed.
Stay close and watch over him.
Okay, sir.
- How much?
- 10 rupees
Joseph!
Oh no...
Joseph...
Sir, what happened to him?
Hey, Azhagu!
Yes, sir.
It's nothing.
I was transferred suddenly so it'll take
some time for my family to move here.
Do you need someone to cook, sir?
I'll handle that.
It gets chilly at night, man.
Even booze isn't doing the trick.
Can you get me something...
a little company?
What, sir?!
Company, man. Some company.
You can't get that around here, sir.
And that's not part of my job.
Hey! What's with that tone?
You think you're in your hometown
and can act all arrogant?
Get out!
Go get me a strong, hot tea.
That's part of your job too. Get lost!
Okay, sir.
Some big shot you are.
- Sir!
- Huh?
Who are you, man?
I've never seen you around here.
My name is Maideen, sir.
I used to work with Joseph,
who died two weeks ago.
I have some suspicions
about his death, sir.
Hmm?
I was hoping to see
the Inspector about it...
Hmm.
What is it? Tell me.
Sir, please don't take this the wrong way.
I need to speak to the Inspector himself.
Fine, don't tell me.
But that man is a psycho.
You won't get anything out of him anyway.
Do one thing.
Go see Paari, sir.
Who is he, sir?
He was the Inspector
here when Joseph died.
That's why I'm telling you, go see him.
If I'd caught that psycho back then,
I wouldn't be trapped with this psycho now
Okay.
- Sir.
- Hmm?
Who is that, sir?
He's a friend of Joseph's.
He insisted on seeing Paari, sir.
Said it's something important.
- That's why I've sent him to his house.
- Okay, sir.
Joseph...
Hmm?
Tell me.
I need to see Paari, sir.
He's not home right now.
When will he be back, madam?
Hmm... he'll be late.
I'll just wait off to the side
until he gets here, madam.
Okay.
Hmm.
Why do you want to meet him?
My name is Maideen, madam.
I used to work with Joseph.
I came to town to visit him,
and that's when I found out
he has passed away.
I need to speak with sir
about that matter.
Alright. Please come inside.
- Please sit down.
- Hmm.
- Would you like something to drink?
- No, it's alright, thank you, madam.
It's no trouble at all. Tell me.
If you don't mind,
could I get some black tea?
Okay.
Umayal!
Tell me, sister.
He used to work with Joseph, right?
Yeah... that's what he said.
Can I have a word with him?
Sure, come on in.
After my husband passed away,
our entire family depended on Joseph.
Please, tell me.
Did he have any trouble there?
Did he get into a fight with anyone?
Nothing like that, sister.
He never fights with anyone.
With the money he won in the lottery,
he just came home to start his
own tea shop and settle down.
But when I got here...
What?!
Joseph won the lottery?
What did you do to Joseph?
I came here to ask you
what happened to Joseph,
but you're questioning me instead.
Stop acting!
The night before he left,
he was on the phone with you,
telling you he had won the lottery
and was coming home to settle down.
I heard him! I heard it all!
Tell me the truth!
What did you do to him?
You did something for
that money, didn't you?
Are you going to tell me or not?
I won't let you get away with this!
You're hiding something!
You killed him for money
and now you're putting on an act?
He was my friend!
He only ever wanted all of you to be well!
How could you betray him like this?
Huh?!
Pick up, Paari!
Please, Paari!
Pick up... pick up the phone!
Damn!
Paari, listen.
Because the Kerala government
is involved in this case,
I don't know what I can even do.
If you have any faith in God,
pray that I get to wear
that uniform again.
Okay, sir.
- Yes, Paari.
- The investigation just ended.
What happened?
Why all these calls?
Nothing, Paari.
I had a bad dream.
When are you coming?
I'm leaving now.
"My dear, the banyan tree
It has fallen, uprooted..."
"It has fallen..."
"My lotus that bloomed in the stream,
Why have you vanished from my sight?"
"Your laughter that once carved
through stone, Has turned into tears..."
"The memories of you that seep into my soul,
Why do they kill me without ending my life?"
"Darkness has swallowed my forest
My entire world is engulfed in shadow..."
"One life has been lost
Our nest is now incomplete..."
"Did you not hear
the child's screaming cry?"
"Before you died,
did you not look to God?"
"My precious light
that I can no longer see..."
"My beacon that is gone forever..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
"Go to sleep...
Go to sleep my dear..."
By the way, why did you go near
the Big House on the day of the incident?
I was on my way back from the ration shop
when I saw Joseph's friend, Maideen.
I went to the Big house
only to meet him, sir.
What did you see there?
On the way to the Big house,
I heard the sound of a violin.
As soon as I heard that sound,
I stopped right at the entrance.
That's when I saw him, sir.
What did he look like?
He was quite tall.
He was wearing a mask.
Just looking at him
gave me the shivers, sir.
Well, you and Joseph
weren't on speaking terms.
What was the problem between you two?
That's our family matter, sir.
Huh...
The whole town knows
about your family's troubles.
People around you are dying one by one.
First it was your husband.
Then your brother- in- law.
Who knows who's next?
Mind your words, sir.
My husband was an Inspector too.
He was an Inspector.
But he's not here anymore, is he?
Whenever I call you to the station,
you must come.
Get going.
Everyone puts a ring on a baby.
Why are you so adamant about
putting a chain on him?
If it's a ring, it might hurt him
as he grows, right?
I always want to give him
nothing but happiness.
That is why I've put the ring on a chain.
Hmm...
I have some questions regarding
your wife's death and Maideen's murder.
Tell me, sir.
Do you know Maideen?
No.
What about your wife?
She doesn't know either.
You don't know who Maideen is.
Your wife didn't know him either.
And yet, your wife had a stranger
sitting in the middle of your home,
serving him coffee.
Maideen's murder and
your wife's suicide...
there wasn't a single fingerprint
on either of their bodies.
If someone is committing
murder this cleanly,
there is no way
he's an ordinary person.
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Sir?
Isn't she the one who claimed
she saw the killer in daylight?
Yes, sir.
What are you doing here?
I'm looking after the baby, sir.
Looking after the baby... or...
Let's not talk about
unnecessary things, sir.
She's the one who said
she saw the psycho killer.
And today, she's right here in your house.
I have a feeling it's you
I should be suspicious of.
While you and her were together,
Maideen entered your house,
and when you found out
he was with your wife,
you both teamed up and killed them both
and now you're both
putting on a show for me?
- Hey!
- What, hey!
Mind your words!
The uniform is the only reason
you're still standing.
Hey, Azhagu!
You said that your old Inspector
is a 'good man'.
He's threatening me?
Let me find just one piece of evidence...
I'll crush you like a mosquito in my hand.
Hey, Azhagu, come on, let's go.
Take good care of him...
I meant the child.
I'll take care of Dhruv.
You should leave.
I don't want you to have
any trouble because of me.
This village has said much worse just
because I'm from the Dasarathan bloodline.
His words mean nothing.
This might be new to you.
For me, this is just a way of life.
Dhruv has been crying all day
and now he has a fever.
Please, take him to the hospital.
The child has a slight lung congestion.
- Cheraya!
- Sir!
Tell me, sir.
- Give the child a PCM injection.
- Okay, sir.
- Come on, come on. It's nothing.
- Careful.
Okay, okay.
It's fine, it's fine.
Tell me.
Sir, did you get the news?
The Kerala police have
encountered the masked psycho.
That's not all, sir.
They've closed all the cases here,
claiming he's the one who
committed all the murders.
'A life-convict who escaped
from Kerala's Punalur prison,'
'known as The Masked Psycho Kannaayiram,'
'has been encountered. And in the
controversy surrounding the encounter,'
'the police team led by CI Mathew '
'appeared before the
Human Rights Commission office today.'
'When masked psycho Kannayiram,
who was caught during a vehicle check,'
'attempted to attack
the policemen and escape,'
'the policemen fired
back in self-defense,'
'resulting in the masked psycho
Kannaayiram dieing on the spot.'
Sir!
Sir, I need to see the Inspector
about something important.
Azhagu!
Sir.
- Tell the Inspector that Paari sir is here.
- Okay, sir.
Sir, I have court duty.
I'll be back soon.
Just sit here for a while.
Please, sir.
Sir, Paari sir is here to see you.
Why is he here?
He'll only spoil my mood.
Tell him to wait. I'll come.
- Okay, sir.
- Yes, my dear...
At what time does your
husband go to work at night?
- Sir.
- Hmm?
He wants you to wait for a while.
Hmm.
- Sir! Please stop... sir...
- Yes, my dear.
Happy now?
I'll call you back later.
I need to talk to you about
something important.
What is it?
Reopen the case of that psycho killer.
He has absolutely no connection
to the murders that happened here.
Are you working even
during your suspension?
On what basis
are you saying that the psycho killer
has no connection to these murders?
That dead psycho killer had a wooden leg.
Look at these photos.
These are the footprints taken
when he came to the station.
They are size 11.
How can both footprints be the same size
if the person has a wooden leg?
This case cannot be reopened.
It's not in my hands to do anything.
Sir! Do you understand
what I am telling you?
I'm telling you that the murderer
is still roaming free outside.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
This case is over!
If losing your wife
is keeping you up at night,
just have a drink and
go to sleep, alright?
Stop driving me crazy.
Oh, look, a master detective
solving a crime.
If we reopen this case like you're saying,
your wife was sitting in the middle of
the house talking to some stranger.
Why?
I'll tell you myself.
There was a connection between
Maideen and your wife.
Once you found that out,
you killed them both yourself,
I'll frame you for everything and claim you
tried to pin the whole mess on the psycho.
and lock you away.
Are you okay with that?
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey!
- Sir, sir!
- Sir, please calm down!
- Sir, let him go.
- Sir, calm down please.
Sir.. sir...
This is a police station, sir.
Please control yourself.
- Please sir...
- Let go of my hand!
I said let go!
You dare touch an officer
while he's on duty?
I'm not going to let you
get away with this.
Don't worry, sir.
I'll ensure everything is handled
without any further issues.
No, sir.
I'll handle it.
Thank you.
Have a seat, Paari.
Sit down.
Okay.
I've called you here because
we need to discuss a critical case.
Tell me, sir.
They said the Kerala police had
'encountered' that masked psycho.
We thought that case was closed.
But yesterday,
Inspector Samraj called and said
someone in a mask tried to
attack him inside his own home.
You were the one who said the masked psycho
wasn't involved in the Mekkarai case.
So, I've decided to appoint you
as the inquiry officer for this very case.
Please take care.
Thank you, sir.
- Sir!
- Yes, sir?
I want all the files on the serial
killer's cases. Every single one.
Sir... the case was closed...
I didn't close it.
Please don't take this the wrong way, sir.
Ever since you started
working on this case,
things have gone wrong,
both for this town and for you.
Please, I beg you, don't reopen it.
Five murders!
All following the same pattern, sir.
With the evidence in our hands,
how can a policeman sleep
peacefully without solving it?
I haven't slept in a long time, sir.
Until I find out whose
footprints those are,
I'm not letting this case go, sir.
Sir, without a single clue to go on,
with just a pair of footprints,
how on earth do you expect
to identify the accused?
Forget about identifying the suspect
with the footprints for now.
Can't we use these same footprints to prove
the killer didn't commit all these murders?
I'm not in favour of you
taking this case back up.
Whether you agree or not,
this is my order!
You must obey it.
And this goes for all of you!
I want those serial killer files
on my table in half an hour.
- Is that clear?
- Understood, sir.
Azhagu!
Sir.
Tell me exactly what happened the night
that psycho came to the police station.
A policeman should never
handle a case emotionally.
That's exactly what
I did in Umayal's case.
There's something I'm missing here.
'With all this rain and
the constant chill,'
'everyone in this village
sticks to black tea, sir.'
Why are we going to Kerala, sir?
Last time when I went to Kerala,
three murders happened here.
He hit the church, the station,
and even my house.
Could it be...
that he was just diverting me to keep me
from finding out about Joseph?
Until I find out what that is,
this case won't move an inch.
And there's more.
When Umayal and Maideen were murdered,
there was a third person in my house.
That third person must be
someone both Umayal and I knew.
We don't know who he is,
but he clearly knows exactly who we are.
Azhagu!
Sir?
Sir, 40 lakh rupees have been
credited to Joseph's account.
Check the date.
The 30th, sir.
When did Joseph go missing?
On the 1st, sir.
Sir...
Come, let's go.
- Hey, come on!
- Hey, run!
Who are they, sir?
Why are they attacking us?
It was all for this.
If I'm right,
this money is the motive behind
every single murder here.
What do we do now, sir?
I'm about to host a feast.
'14th-day funeral rites'
Hey!
Who gave you permission to
beat the drum without my orders, huh?
Just a minute!
Son, this town has its own rules.
Because you refuse to
abide by them and run wild,
this whole town is now soaked in blood.
Hmm!
That psycho killer isn't responsible
for the murders in Mekkarai.
It was one of you.
And it was all for the money
Joseph won in Kerala.
Who's behind these murders...
we'll find out today!
Listen up, everyone!
Nobody leaves this place until
Paari sir finishes his investigation!
Do you understand?
"The clan of the wicked shall tremble,
At this whirlwind storm!"
"Closing the grip on the enemy's throat,
The time has come!"
"The game of dice that breaks the
enemy's patience, The time has come!"
"The hands of the brave rise in defiance,
The time has come!"
"Palpitate in fear, Torture and suffer,
Caught in the web, Like a wildfire!"
"Burn the enemy, Sever the head,
The time for the sacrifice, Has come!"
"Shattered fate, Striking like thunder,
The dance of terror, Has begun!"
"Life ends, Breath departs,
The time for the grave, Has come!"
"Here comes the tiger!
The fox will tremble!"
"Here comes the wrath!
The enemy's story... is ending now!"
"Hold your ground, if you can!
Touch me if you dare!"
"Your end is sealed!
The enemy's game... is ending now!"
Yes, Azhagu.
They're running out
of patience over here, sir.
You're the only one
who can handle this mess.
Serve tea to everyone.
Okay, sir.
I'm on my way.
"The arrogance that believes,
None can defeat me!"
"Will destroy itself.
The fire, the power, rises!"
"The belief that,
None dare question me!"
"Leads to the dark path,
Consuming the town!"
"Here comes the tiger!
The fox will tremble!"
"Here comes the wrath!
The enemy's story... is ending now!"
"Stop me if you can!"
Sir, only Naadukaathan, my father,
Sandhanakili, Mayandi, and Mani brother
are the ones who drink milk tea.
Hmm.
Put all of them under
immediate surveillance.
Hmm.
I've started.
Sir...
the lights are on
at the village head's house.
What's that in your hand, sir?
Sir, please hear me out.
Hmm.
It's money, sir.
How did you get this money, sir?
Sir...
I trust it won't come to me
having to drag you to the station.
I took out a bank loan for
Dharani's wedding expenses, sir.
It was during that slight delay...
that I saw Dr. Willey
at the hospital and asked,
'If you know anyone who could get me a loan
at a low interest rate, could you help?'
That's where I met Mugilan
for the first time.
Then, I met Mugilan later at the tea shop.
I overheard you talking to Dr. Willey.
I know someone who is lending
money at a low interest rate
let me know if you need some,
I'll get it for you.
Hmm. Talk to him and let me know.
And then what happened?
The next day, Mugilan called
and said the money was ready.
He told me to come to the
Red Sand Trail to collect it, sir.
I asked him, 'Why there?
The person giving the
money is from Kerala.
He said he was in a rush
to leave for his hometown,
so he asked me to meet him
on this route, sir.
You said the Keralite would come here.
He's been here the whole time.
He just left.
He left the money with me.
Here.
Just make sure to pay the interest
to me on time every month.
Hmm. Okay...
When you said yesterday that Joseph
might have been killed for the money,
and that the money
hadn't left Mekkarai yet...
I got scared, sir.
I called Mugilan immediately.
His phone was switched off, sir.
Then I went directly to his house, sir.
He wasn't at home, sir.
They said he had gone out for work.
Looking at all this,
I got scared that it might
be stolen money, sir.
I knew the money meant trouble.
So, I called my friend
Sanjeevan in Kerala.
I told him to find that man
Mugilan talked about
and hand this over to him, no matter what.
Call Sanjeevan.
- Sir!
- Hmm?
Turn on the loudspeaker.
Tell me, Antony.
Has the vehicle left?
Yes, it has started.
Alright, Antony.
I'll talk to him and take it.
Okay, sir.
You can go.
Sir.
After all the trouble we
went through to catch him,
you just let him go
that easily, sir?
We could have taken Antony sir to the
station and interrogated him, sir.
No.
No, Azhagu.
There's some truth in
what Antony sir says.
A policeman wouldn't make
such a careless mistake.
Could it be that Mugilan
committed the murder
and took the money
himself, sir?
No.
I don't think Mugilan is responsible
for all the murders that happened here.
That one clue we
had proved useless.
How are we going to
close this case now, sir?
Keep our suspects under
constant surveillance.
We'll wait and see what they do.
Alright, sir.
I'm leaving.
'Paari, sir.'
'Sir, the violin music...
it's playing near the church again.'
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'Paari, that psycho killer is
standing outside our home!'
- Hey, Azhagu!
- Sir?
Isn't she the one who claimed
she saw the killer in daylight?
Yes, sir.
Kani is the only one who saw
the psycho in broad daylight.
Why didn't I question her?
Please, forgive me.
Kani!
Kani!
Kani!
Sir!
- Huh?
- Huh?
Sir?
Tell me, sir.
Sir, can you watch over
Dhruv until morning?
Why are you asking like that?
Give him to me, sir.
Sir.
Leaving the child behind
in the middle of the night...
...is it something important?
Sir, I'm starting to suspect that Kani
might be the one behind all these murders.
How could Kani possibly have
committed all these murders, sir?
Sir, Kani might not have
committed these murders herself.
But there's no way she
doesn't know what's going on.
What makes you say that?
Sir...
The church, the police
station, the house,
the psycho killer only
struck at night.
Azhagu, the Father, and I
are the witnesses to that.
But Maideen and Umayal
were murdered in broad daylight.
If no one else in town
saw this 'psycho killer,'
how is it possible that Kani
saw him in the middle of the day?
Sir.
Except for Aaron and Umayal,
the only person connected to Jessica,
Joseph, Mary, and Maideen, is Kani.
Kani never lets Dhruv
out of her sight.
If she left him alone today
and didn't even lock the door,
it means she knows
I'm onto her, sir.
This could just be my
own speculation, sir.
To know if all this
is true or a lie,
we need to make
Kani speak.
That is why I'm going
after her, sir.
Sir, just a minute.
I will also come with you, sir.
Sir!
It's Mugilan.
- Hello.
- Brother.
Look up the records for
everyone leaving town today.
See if Kani's name is there.
Sir...
No one has descended
the hill after 6:00 PM, sir.
She's not here,
and she's not there.
Where could she be?
'Is there any way out of the village
besides the checkpost?'
'There is one, sir.
The Red Sand Trail.'
'But nobody uses that
trail anymore, sir.'
The Red Sand Trail.
Sir, get down and see
if you can push a little.
Move it!
Sir, get Azhagu and bring
the jeep, somehow.
- I'm going ahead on foot.
- Hmm.
That game you played
to outsmart fate?
It's led you to
your downfall!
Please forgive me, Paari.
Please forgive me.
It was a mistake.
Sir!
Kani...
Kani!
All I ever wanted was
a chance to live, Paari.
What do we do now, sir?
Sir.
I'm heading down
the hill to find Anna.
Please, take care of
Dhruv until I return.
Okay, sir.
Until the festival ends,
no one can know Kani is dead.
We have to identify
the killer before then.
Where do we hide this body?
Sir...
There's no one at
my place, sir.
Can we hide it there?
'On the 30th day,
a grand ceremony'
Anna...
She's got her TC and left.
When did they come and get it, sir?
On the 19th.
Do you know who came to collect it?
Anna's mother.
And... there was another
man with her.
Do you remember
what he looked like?
I didn't get a good
look at him.
He was also a
policeman like you.
A policeman?
Okay, sir.
Thank you.
- Hello.
- Dharani!
Can you check who was on leave
at the station on June 19, 2007?
One minute, sir.
My father was on leave, sir.
Sir!
Hello, sir?
Okay, Dharani.
Hello.
Come in, Azhagu.
Come inside.
One minute.
Hello?
Hell... hello.
This damn signal!
Paari sir asked me to
bring both you and Dhruv.
But he said he would come
and pick up Dhruv himself.
Okay.
Sit down. I'll go put on
a shirt and be right back.
'We could have taken Antony sir to the
station and interrogated him, sir.'
'No.'
'No, Azhagu.'
'There's some truth in
what Antony sir says.'
I was afraid that
all the reputation I've built...
and my daughter's life
would be ruined, sir.
'A policeman wouldn't make
such a careless mistake.'
'I didn't get a good
look at him.'
'He was also a policeman like you.'
'All I ever wanted was
a chance to live, Paari.'
'He was also a policeman like you.'
- Dharani.
- Yes, sir?
18-06-2007.
Could you check the logs and
see who was on duty that night?
Okay, sir.
Azhagu...
It was Azhagu, sir.
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
'I'm all alone here, sir.'
'Please, you have to do something!'
'Don't panic!'
'Get straight to the
weapon room and grab a gun.'
'If he gets close,
don't hesitate... shoot!'
'I'll take full responsibility
for whatever happens.'
'Yes, sir! I'm on it.'
So...
is the killer right
here with us, sir?
Yes, tell me, Dharani.
Dad, is Azhagu there?
Yes.
He's here saying Paari sir sent him
to pick up me and the child.
Dad, listen to me
for a second!
I think Paari sir suspects Azhagu is
behind all the murders happening here.
Don't go with him.
Stay right where you are.
I'm leaving right now.
Okay, dear.
I'll handle it.
Okay.
Sir.
Sir!
Sir!
Hey, Azhagu!
Where are you going
at this hour?
Paari sir's jeep broke down,
so he asked me to come.
That's why I'm heading
out at this hour.
But he gave strict orders not to let
any vehicles down the hill.
Alright, hold on a second.
Let me talk to Paari sir.
Hmm.
The call isn't going through.
Go ahead!
Azhagu!
Thank God!
You...
I can't believe it's you... the Satan!
I'm stunned!
June 30th.
That book... it won't
spare you either...
Oh God...
'Sir, can you watch over
Dhruv until morning?'
You don't need to hide behind
that mask anymore,
Azhagu!
What did you do to my dad?
He's dead.
Go join your father and Aaron
in the place they've gone to.
Water...
'Everyone puts a
ring on a baby.'
'Why are you so adamant about
putting a chain on him?'
'If it's a ring, it might hurt him
as he grows, right?'
'I always want to give him
nothing but happiness.'
'That is why I've put
the ring on a chain.'
Azhagu...
Paari sir...
Sir... sir!
Sir!
Sir!
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
I will ask Vanamangai!
Why create such a cold-hearted woman,
and made her stand right before me.
Three years have passed...
since I confessed my love to you.
Apply the sindhoor
a little larger, Kani.
The angel doesn't
stand a chance.
Was it really you who called?
Is that why it's
raining so hard?
Get up!
"My God hunts,
a storm unleashed!"
"Setting fire to grudges
that never ceased!"
"With a spear in hand,
she guards our land!"
"As the camphor burns,
the fever climbs, across the sands!"
"It's Vanamangai!
She's my Huntress so wild!"
"A mother who saves
the sorrowed child!"
"A blade that strikes
just dare to touch!"
"One step inside,
and the enemy's dust!"
"Wielding her mighty her sword,
she strikes them down!"
"Like rain from the heavens,
she claims the crown!"
"When evil rises,
she burns the toll!"
"Clearing the sins
and the broken soul!"
"Fierce as a wildfire,
swift as the breeze!"
"The wicked foxes burn,
brought to their knees!"
"The form of the Forest Mother,
rising high!"
"Her Vishwaroopam
making the world cry!"
"My God hunts,
a storm unleashed!"
"Setting fire to grudges
that never ceased!"
"With a spear in hand,
she guards our land!"
"As the camphor burns,
the heat is grand!"
"It's Vanamangai!
My Huntress true!"
"A mother for those
who are born anew!"
"A blade that strikes
just dare to touch!"
"One step inside,
and the enemy's dust!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
"She's the ruthless Huntress!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
"Vanamangai, the Huntress!"
Azhagu will take good care
of Anna and me.
We've decided to leave
this town for good.
You've already made up
your mind, haven't you?
Then why bring
this garbage to me?
I get it now.
Is this why you sent
Anna away to study?
Have you no shame?
Disgusting!
Is it just him,
or is someone else tagging along?
Hey!
Azhagu, let him go!
Let him go, Azhagu!
Joseph was supposed to
meet me here this morning.
- but he still hasn't shown up.
- Joseph!
I heard your voice in the background
when he was boarding the bus.
Shall we go together?
Azhagu?
Take this five lakhs.
Make sure no one ever
finds out what happened here.
'A psycho killer from Kerala had
escaped from the Kerala Punaloor prison.'
'The police suspect he could be
hiding in Mekkarai village.'
I need you to do
me a small favour.
What favour?
'The radio news mentioned that
a psycho killer from Kerala had escaped,'
'and the description they gave
matched the figure I had seen.'
Paari sir, this is Mary.
Jessica left saying she was
going to see Azhagu brother.
Okay, Mary.
I will pass on the word that Azhagu was
the last person Jessica saw, to Paari sir.
'Sir! The serial killer...
he's come to our station!'
Sir... sir... I'm all alone here
in the station, sir.
I'm scared, sir.
I really don't know
what to do, sir!
I'm really scared, sir.
I'm really scared, sir.
I thought Jessica
was the only one you killed.
But you've been on a spree,
Joseph, Mary... you just keep going.
If you want me to keep my
mouth shut about all of this,
you're going to have to pay me
exactly what I'm asking for.
You've seen something
you shouldn't have.
Now, it's either you
or this child.
You decide.
So... tell me.
Is the future actually written
in The Dark Heaven book?
And if Dr. Willey is dead,
then where did the book go?
What happened to
the curse on that village?
How about we grab a tea and discuss
where the story goes from here?
