The Fort (2026) Movie Script
(rain pattering)
(thunder booming)
(eerie electronic music)
(door creaks and thuds)
(wind whistling)
Huh. Huh, well I'll be.
(door thuds)
You know, you got this wrong.
The chaplain's nose is
much, much bigger than this.
(person chuckling)
Ha.
(thunder rumbling)
Who, uh, who drew all these?
We all did.
We, we remembered what we could.
Uh, well,
(box tapping)
(sighs) you remembered more
than most. (Sniffs and sighs)
(thunder rumbling)
You know, once upon a time,
there are these places called playgrounds,
where kids would hang
upside down from metal bars.
They'd scrape their knees
and they would argue over who's it.
In schools, books, bells,
and these terrifying creatures
called math teachers.
(group chuckling)
And you're not gonna believe this,
but people actually got up
early to go there on purpose.
And there's this thing called church.
It's these buildings
where people always sang,
they cried, they hugged
strangers, and sometimes,
they'd fall asleep during the sermons.
Whole families would go
together to give thanks
to someone they never even
met or could even see.
I don't remember, I don't remember much,
'cause I was just a child.
I was younger than you
(chuckles) that time,
but that world, it was real.
(inhales) Just like the
painting of that man.
His name was Cooper. He was a chaplain.
They call him Coop. I (inhales
and exhales) called him Dad.
He saved me.
Saved a lot of us.
Many of them were your parents.
You see,
those pictures that you do, those,
they're more than stories,
they're, they're memories.
(thunder rumbling)
Memories for me,
memories of one that you all have as well.
Do you all know who he was?
- [All] Yeah.
- Do you wanna know who I am?
- [All] Yeah.
Think it's more important
that you found out who you are.
All right, so we could
lean in, listen close.
Gonna tell you a story.
The story of The Fort.
(soft piano music)
(thunder booming)
(crows cawing)
(birds chirping)
(wings flapping)
Rejoice always,
pray continuously,
give thanks in all circumstances.
(somber vocalizing)
(Cooper sobbing)
Give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will
for you in Christ Jesus. (Sobs)
(soft dramatic music)
(footsteps pattering)
Virus got 'em, huh?
Horrible thing. Horrible thing.
You probably suffered a lot too.
I heard you praying. I heard you crying.
Not much of a talker, are you?
You know what? Maybe you're
praying to the wrong God.
Huh. You live around here?
I just find it funny
that, uh, you carried both
of these bodies up here by yourself.
We got food if you're hungry.
Look, we're looking for followers.
My father's looking for followers.
He can protect you from the virus,
protect you from things on this Earth.
I have a hunch you and I
don't have the same father.
(tense electronic music)
Hallelujah. He talks.
Hallelujah to the one below.
You can end up like him. (Spits)
Now, now. Be kind to our new friend.
I don't think we're gonna be friends.
No, well, my father always loved crows.
So maybe we'll, (exhales) we'll
put you out with the crows.
Well, surely your father can save you.
I mean, it's three against one.
Ah!
(shovel whacking)
(crows cawing)
(knife stabbing)
Look, we can use someone like you.
Powerful, strong, strong-minded.
I don't think so.
I don't think you have a choice.
(shovel stabbing)
(Aamon groaning)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
Come join us. (Groans)
Come (breathes heavily) join us.
My father would be so proud.
Never.
(Aamon groaning)
He stretches his hand in wrath,
but God delivers his
right hand to save me.
(shovel stabbing)
(Aamon groaning)
(soft dramatic music)
(Aamon groaning)
(shovel scraping)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
(Aamon groaning)
(grass rustling)
(Aamon groaning)
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
Wounded from the fight,
Cooper returned to his cabin.
After he killed Aamon, or so he thought,
but he was in mourning after
burying his wife and his son.
Unfortunately, they
succumbed to the virus.
(door creaking)
(Cooper groaning)
(bag rustling)
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(clothes rustling)
(Cooper groaning)
But one thing about
Cooper you need to know
is he loved his country.
He was a survivor.
He was chaplain in military,
and he was trained to survive.
The food was running out and
he had to make a decision.
A decision that would change his destiny.
(group chattering)
(person knocking)
- Got a second?
- Yeah.
Did you see the Asian markets?
- I saw it. (Sighs)
- Well, what do you think?
Should we get our clients to pull out?
No. Let's give it the weekend.
Look, it's just a panic.
With America getting in the war,
everyone's a little nervous.
Nervous? The markets are crashing.
Uh, when I was in the military,
we called this the hype before the storm.
Now once we get over there,
everything will settle down.
You were in the military?
Yeah, I was Chaplain.
Go enjoy your weekend.
What? You're not coming
in for the weekend?
Here? Nah.
My wife booked a vacation
up in the mountains
up in West Virginia,
like this old settlement.
We thought it'd be cool
for Cody to, you know,
kind of learn about our American settlers.
Uh, it's actually a pretty cool place.
Got candle shops and
horses and old kitchens.
I mean, it's dead in
the middle of nowhere,
but I think it'll be fun.
Sounds cool. Have a good weekend, dude.
[Cooper] All right.
(phone beeping)
(tense electronic music)
(group chattering)
[Announcer] Thousands have been subject
to biological attack.
Blackouts from major
cities are spreading out
into the rural areas.
Hospitals already with the sick,
running dangerously
low on emergency power.
Officials fear hundreds of
thousands more will die.
As of yet, no one has taken
responsibility for the attack.
(static buzzing)
(remote clicking)
[Sarah] Who do you
think is attacking us?
I don't know. China, Iran.
Could be Russia.
I'm scared.
Sarah, I know. I am too.
I, I'm trying.
I promise, I'll do everything in my power
to keep you and Maddox safe.
(Sarah breathing uneasily)
Then why did you kill us?
(eerie electronic music)
What?
So Aamon was dead?
Well, not exactly.
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
The light bringer.
He was the, uh, master of
confusion and destruction.
People followed him.
They called him Father.
He also had these very powerful prophets
that roam the earth.
And they recruited for him.
And they killed those who were defiant.
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
(birds chirping)
Fools.
(inhales) What shall we do? (Exhales)
He gambled with his soul and lost.
Shall I let Ammon perish then?
That's what I thought.
(Balthazar sighs)
(crows cawing)
Our Father who rules the Earth
hallowed be Thy name.
In the light bearer's name,
we ask that Aamon be found worthy.
Awaken, Aamon. Awaken.
(wind howling)
(Aamon coughing)
Father has found you worthy.
Thank you, great prophet. (Groans)
The line has been crossed.
From this moment forward,
anyone without the mark
is to be killed on sight.
Do you understand?
Yes.
Good.
What about the others?
(tense electronic music)
They're not worthy.
And Aamon, whenever you
see the anointed one,
shoot him on the spot.
- The anointed one?
- Yes.
The chaplain who killed you and your men.
So now, Aamon was alive,
he had recruit more followers.
And he did.
(heavy rock music)
(group chattering)
(door slamming)
(footsteps tapping)
(Aamon inhales and exhales)
To the light bringer.
- To the light bringer!
- Woo!
Now who wants to follow me
to their unbridled, sacrificial death?
[Person] Oh, hell yeah.
- Woo.
- Yeah.
(Aamon sighing)
(heavy rock music)
I'm coming! Who wants a round, woo!
(Cashel blows kiss)
(thunder rumbling)
(rain pattering)
(door handle clatters and clacks)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(person moaning)
(people moaning)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(cane whacking)
- Who are you?
- Easy now.
How did you get in here?
Just an open door. I'll leave.
I don't want any trouble.
You marked?
Are you here to talk to God?
Uh, something like that.
Would you like to see God?
Now you take it easy now. I'll go.
Just tell me, what are
those voices I hear?
Those voices?
Those are the voices
in your head. (Laughs)
You hungry?
Uh, uh, yeah.
Come on over here. Follow me.
(rain pattering continues)
(soft dramatic music)
Hey, hey you! Where you going?
Where you going?
(door clicking)
Oh my God. How many
people do you have in here?
Some just leave some. Some just go.
Some disappear.
(group chattering)
Disappear?
Hard to explain, really, the reason.
We need to find a new place to go.
The patrols in this town are
getting tighter and tighter.
And the corrupt cops and the fallen,
well, they are ruthless.
Have you ever run into those guys?
Yeah, you could say that.
Everything is getting much
more difficult these days,
but enough about that, tell
us about yourself, Cooper.
(inhales) My family and I were, uh,
we took a trip during the reckoning.
Tried to teach 'em a little history.
And we tried to help everybody we could,
but most everyone there died.
And where is this place?
Not too far away. Out in the woods.
There's a lot of woods
around here, Mr. Cooper.
Indeed.
Hmm, so we bring you in, give you food,
and all we get is the woods?
For now.
(child coughing)
Pastor, are we going out tonight?
Yes. And you're going with us.
(tense electronic music)
(ball rolling)
Ha-ha-ha. That's a good one.
That's not.
Ha-ha-ha.
Sorry about your family.
You can understand why I
was being cautious. Right?
Course. Don't worry about it.
The fallen are hunting us.
If you don't have the mark,
you're as good as dead.
One thing you'll find out
if you cross the fallen,
they never let up.
(Cooper sighing)
Everybody ready? Let's go into town.
(switch clicking)
[Person] Be safe.
Hold onto to that
for me. Would you, pal?
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
Cooper, every night he
would send some of us out,
look for food, anything,
because without food,
well, you couldn't survive.
(Duggan breathing heavily)
(trash rustling)
(doorknob clattering)
Oh, no. Don't go in there.
- It's a kitchen.
- Wait.
There's a kitchen, there's food.
(door creaking)
(suspenseful electronic music)
Did you hear that?
- It's nothing.
- Shh, quiet.
[Duggan] Wait, we need this.
You don't hear that?
Sounds like kids crying.
Wait.
(pan clattering)
Shh.
That's enough. Weapon on the bar now.
(guard chuckling)
You know him?
Course not.
(rifle clattering)
- Get the weapon away.
Keep your hands up. Hands up.
Who's that crying?
- They cry all the time.
Who cries all the time?
(gun blasting)
(body thudding)
What have you done? Now
we gotta get outta here.
So you do know him.
Told you, no. We gotta get outta here.
(door thudding)
(eerie vocalizing)
Oh my God.
(siren wailing)
The police are outside.
We have to get out of here.
We can't leave these kids.
We have to. We'll come
back for them later.
Let's go.
I'll come back. I promise.
(soft dramatic music)
Every day, it would
be new people arriving.
(rain pattering)
And they would have pictures
of their missing loved ones.
That's so sad.
(thunder rumbling)
(Wendy singing)
[Duggan] Wendy, what are
you doing to yourself? No.
- I don't understand.
- Put these away.
Uh, I just don't understand.
Wait. They're gonna come back.
But we need to look forward.
- No. (Sobs)
- You need to look forward.
- No, I wanna go home.
- Come on, give 'em...
- I wanna go home!
- Give 'em back to me.
- (sobs) No.
- Come.
You're gonna be okay.
We're gonna look forward.
They're gonna come back. Let's pray on it.
Let's pray on it, okay?
- Okay.
Dear God...
But this night was different.
No one trusted anyone.
Even if you had priest
clothes on, it didn't,
it didn't matter because
everyone, everyone had a price.
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
(all breathing heavily)
We're going to have to
get out of here. No, no.
You have to get out of here.
Why?
'Cause there's gonna be
knocking on that door any minute.
Who's gonna come knocking on that door?
They, the police, the fallen.
Now why would they come here?
Duggan, you knew that guard, he knew you.
He only knew me as the
foolish preacher in town.
Preacher. Not someone marked.
- Well, wait.
- Let me see.
(soft dramatic music)
I can't believe this.
It was you all this time.
Preacher to traitor.
Look how far you've fallen.
(breathes heavily)
Why? Where's my sister?
And he did overcome it and
keepeth my work until the end.
But we'll give him the
power over the righteous.
I...
It isn't lurid anymore.
(breathes heavily) I'll kill you!
Those people did not run away!
You're better than this.
You're better than him.
I'm so stupid. (Breathes
heavily) We're all next.
We have to get going. Let's go now.
(Duggan laughing)
There's nowhere to go. Don't you see?
All is lost.
God has abandoned us.
"I will be with you always.
I will be with you until the end of time."
Matthew 20:20.
You're not the only preacher here.
(Duggan growling)
(hand slapping)
Let's go now.
Come on, buddy. I got ya.
Carry this for me. I have
to go get those kids.
- Where are we going?
- Go to the bridge
at the end of town, hide under it.
I'll be there.
- Okay, stay with me.
Let's go.
(eerie electronic music)
[Person] Nice.
(door creaking)
Are you the anointed one? (Echoes)
(soft dramatic music)
Hey. I told you I'd be back.
Come on. Let's go.
Quiet but quick.
Come on. Go, go, go, go.
Good job, good job. Go, go, quiet.
Help each other out.
(dramatic vocalizing)
All right. Come on.
You'll be okay. You'll be okay.
Okay. Good job.
(dramatic vocalizing)
Then when Cooper came
back for those kids,
he told me that he saw two figures.
He said their presence
burned against the darkness.
(rain pattering)
They were like two barriers
of light against the evil.
They all said, "And God
is not forsaken us."
As long as they were children
that were still breathing.
As long as the angel stood guard,
hope still had a place to hide.
Because he was coming back.
When is he coming back?
I'll get to that later.
(soft dramatic music)
(dramatic vocalizing)
(Cooper sighing)
What is this place?
This is our new home.
(footsteps pattering)
(dramatic vocalizing)
Come on. I'll show you around the place.
(dramatic vocalizing)
Did Aamon ever find
them and, and the others?
Well, he was looking
and he had some help.
That's why you must know the
story. You need to be ready.
Ready if it ever awakens again.
(board banging)
(Aamon sighing)
- Bound to have a pantry.
- No, that bar was good.
Look, a, a moose. Look at the moose.
No, man. I'm going to
find some canned goods.
We can't get any pills
anymore because you killed her.
Now we can't go back to that bar.
- Huh.
- All right.
She's still intact.
- Pills.
(cabinets clattering)
Look for anything.
(papers rustling)
(Aamon sighing)
(pages fluttering)
(door thudding)
(door creaking)
(Duggan gasping)
Hey.
(Duggan breathes heavily)
What are you doing here? Hmm?
Oh, I left the city.
This place was quiet.
(Duggan breathing heavily)
You have forsaken the light bearer.
The all-powerful Balthazar.
Don't kill me. I know
who you're looking for.
The chaplain. I can help
you. (Breathes uneasily)
He formed a new colony. Parasites.
They profess a new God.
There must be dozens of them or more.
Where are they?
I know who you are. (Breathes uneasily)
At the old settler's fort.
It's an old vacation spot many years ago.
That's where he's at.
Oh, no, no. That's all I have.
That's all I have.
(Aamon chuckling)
Have mercy on an old man. Please, please.
I do. (Groans) Oh, yeah,
oh, yeah, oh, yeah.
The old man. You know what?
(Duggan moaning)
(Aamon breathes heavily)
I will let you live.
I will let you live. (Sniffs)
(Duggan breathing uneasily)
- Go east.
- East, go east.
(Aamon exhaling)
Around 30 miles or so.
Kill him.
Kill the chaplain.
(tense electronic music)
(group chattering)
And that was about the
time everything happened.
We had been there about a month.
And other people had
learned of Cooper's fort
because more people kept coming.
It was like its own town, its own city.
We all had chores, we all pitched in,
but more people came with more problems.
The fear was just too real.
Cooper ran a civilized community,
but I don't think he asked
for it, but he was in charge.
(group chattering continues)
Shh. Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
(Cooper sighing)
(paper rustling)
They left last night?
With the kids.
- All of them?
- What'd you expect?
You run this place like
a concentration camp.
They said they were
going back to the city.
(chuckles) There's just nothing there.
Oh, and you find that funny?
If people wanna leave, you can leave.
That's less mouths to feed.
Look, the best case
scenario is that somehow
they make it out and live some great life,
but the worst case scenario
is that they tell the fallen where we are.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
If you would let them live their lives
Live? You call this living?
We're not living, we're surviving.
Wes, I need you to double the patrols.
I need everyone to help.
And you keep an eye on the east bank.
And no fires.
- No fires?
- What?
- Are you out of your mind?
Cooper, it is freezing.
What about our family?
No fires? Can't live without fire.
No fires.
[Person] Hey, we gotta have
some fire. What are we...
(group chattering)
- Has, has he lost his...
- What are we gonna do?
- Did you hear that?
Are you hearing him?
- Yeah, yeah.
- It's crazy.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- We gotta talk.
And we gotta talk now.
- Mm-hmm.
- Yes.
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(poker clinking)
Carson?
Carson?
(footsteps tapping)
Hey, buddy.
- This is the only one I got today.
All right, well that's
your breakfast today.
Hey, uh, I need you to go get
dressed. You got school today.
I only have two outfits.
Does it really matter?
Yeah, it matters. And
wear something warm.
I gotta keep the fire out.
(Carson sighing)
Go on.
(footsteps tapping)
(Cooper sighing)
We need to patrol.
- Hey, he took my shoes.
- This area right here.
Because if they come in.
- Where's my shoes?
They're gonna come in from here.
Hey, you got my shoes!
You took my, those are my shoes!
What? These are my shoes.
- What are you doing?
- Stop it!
They're not! Give me those!
- Hey!
- These are my shoes!
- What are you-
- Chill out!
- Hey, hey!
- Oh, let go!
- These are my shoes.
- They're not your shoes!
Enough!
(soft dramatic music)
Enough. Do you want us to be found?
Those your shoes?
- Those are my shoes!
- I found them.
- You found 'em in my cabin.
We do not steal. We do not fight.
We do not yell. This is how we die.
Stockade, both of you.
- What?
And the longer you make noise,
the longer you stay there.
- Come on.
- These are mine.
I found them.
- Oh, come on.
And what, what?
Come on. (Groans)
Oh, come on.
- Get me outta here.
- Hook him.
- Get me outta here.
- You took 'em.
The longer they make
noise, the longer they stay.
- No.
- I didn't do anything.
- Shh.
- Get me outta here.
This is how we get found.
This is what kills us.
We fight, we die.
We stay together, we survive.
Unity.
Get back to work now.
(rain pattering)
- The chaplain sounds cruel.
No, no. He was protecting us.
He knew that they were
still hunting for him.
Uh, hunting for us.
I mean, don't forget, the
virus was still out there.
Uh, our whole sector was under quarantine,
but it was still spreading.
So it was just, just a matter of time.
(group moans and coughs)
(rain pattering)
- Is it safe?
- Yeah, it's okay.
Nothing is working.
The virus just keeps spreading
and feeding on the others.
Do they have food?
A little.
(sighs) Nights are getting colder.
And I heard no more fires.
Fires make smoke, smoke goes in the air.
They see the smoke, they find us.
How am I supposed to
sterilize the bandage?
Okay, just do it quickly.
Me Tonto. Me understand.
Do I really sound like that?
(chuckles) A little.
(sighs) Okay, sure didn't
think I did, but if you say so.
We gotta do something about this rain.
Maybe build a shelter for them.
(bell ringing)
That's the, uh, that's the lunch bell.
That, that means it's lunch.
I mean, if you're gonna eat lunch.
I, I, I mean, (Denny chuckling)
Maybe we could eat at the same time.
I, I mean it is the same time,
but do you want to eat together with me?
(tongue clicking)
Do we feed the prisoners?
(Cooper scoffing)
I mean, we feed the dead.
What would you have me do?
I didn't want any of this.
I don't wanna be a leader.
I wanted to live my days out alone.
And then you (inhales and exhales)
And everyone else showed up.
(inhales) As I recall, you
brought most of us with you.
(Cooper sighing)
You mad that others left?
No, I'm mad that they will get caught
and real hell come down upon us.
And I mean, real hell.
(Denny inhales and exhales)
(soft dramatic music)
Tell me, you still
having the nightmares?
No, no. Not now.
Well, how's Carson doing
now that all the kids left?
Uh, he's lonely, but I'm trying
to keep him focused on school.
He loves the Christmas tree and the story
of gift-giving that you told him.
(Denny chuckling)
- Nurse Denny,
would you mind coming and
looking at my husband?
He's, has a fever and he's coughing.
- Uh, okay, um.
- Go.
(soft dramatic music)
Hey, I'm here for you.
Yeah, except for my lunch date.
It's, uh, it's getting colder.
It's hard to find enough
food for everyone.
Thankful for all the
shelters that we have.
And some good people have come
in, but it's getting harder
and harder to take care of all of them.
I feel obligated.
You know how I feel about family.
Carson's doing as good as he can.
I gotta make him go to school every day,
but he's a smart kid.
He misses you.
(sighs) I miss you so much. (Inhales)
(pen tapping)
(soft dramatic music continues)
(coat rustling)
(thunder rumbling)
(bed creaking)
(wind whistling)
(tense electronic music)
(flies buzzing)
(person screaming)
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(group chattering)
(Cooper sniffs and sighs)
Knows where she's been
- Shut up!
- What, huh?
(group chattering)
Shut up.
(fire crackling)
Hmm.
Light bearer, all powerful
Balthazar. (Breathes uneasily)
(tense electronic music)
I summon the demons from hell
to bring forth the Angel of Death.
For those who don't repent
and make them suffer.
Make them suffer for their disobedience.
(creepy breathing)
Show me the chaplain.
Where can I find the chaplain?
(creepy breathing continues)
(rain pattering)
- Aamon was getting close.
Now the group that left,
one of them came back,
and Cooper thought it was a trap.
He, he didn't know who to trust anymore.
(fist whacking)
- Oh! (Coughs)
- Oh my God.
- No, no, no.
Why did you come back?
- I saw him.
- Saw who?
- Aamon.
- You saw Aamon?
- Uh, he's up on the ridge.
- Where are the others?
- (coughs) I don't know.
They left me. (Coughs)
- Why did you come back?
- 'Cause I was...
- Did you say
anything to him, did you?
- (coughs) No!
- Answer me, did you?
- No!
- Please, no, Cooper, please!
- Did you?
Oh, please, Cooper, please stop.
(gasps) This, this isn't you.
This isn't, this isn't you. Uh.
(gasps) We need you. Please.
Get the community together.
(Denny crying)
(door creaking)
(Cooper inhaling)
(person groaning)
Let him go.
(hammer clattering)
(person coughing)
(group chattering)
(thunder rumbling)
(rain pattering)
Coop, Coop, we need to let
those prisoners go out there.
It's cold.
- It's raining.
- Yeah.
- Freezing.
- It's freezing cold rain.
- Yeah.
Let them go. (Exhales)
When the prodigal son came
home, the father rejoiced.
When our prodigal sons come
home, we beat them. (Sighs)
Fear makes men mad.
Are you the madman? Should
we appoint a new leader?
Not yet.
(group chattering)
If Aamon is nearby, we need to find him.
Now that's the talk of a madman.
Find a man who cannot die
so he can kill us all.
- Aamon is looking for us.
- No, he is looking for you.
Then I'll go.
(papers rustling)
(group chattering)
- I don't know.
- What, what's happening?
- What's happening?
- Good riddance.
Things will be better now.
(group chattering)
(papers rustling)
(gentle piano music)
(chair creaking)
(Cooper blowing)
(Cooper sighing)
You focusing on your school work?
Uh, a little.
A little bit? What is
there somebody cute there?
Mm. Uh.
- Sure about that?
- Yeah.
Okay. I'm gonna ask around. (Chuckles)
Hey, listen, buddy, I gotta go hunting,
so I need you to get yourself up
and get to school every day.
Okay.
Is Denny coming over?
I don't know. Maybe.
Why do you ask?
- No reason.
No reason, huh? Okay.
She's nice, though, isn't she?
Yeah.
It's good to have nice people over here.
(Cody clears throat and sighs)
[Cody] Did you make this?
Did the best I could. (Inhales)
- Bad.
- Bad?
Look at this?
Remember, I was a chaplain,
not a cook. (Chuckles)
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
Cooper was having all these nightmares.
The stress was getting to him.
I mean, a man can only handle so much
with all the, the sick and all the dying.
But then long came a ray of
hope. Or at least we thought.
[Cooper] This can't be good.
I come in peace, Cooper.
Look, we don't want any problems here.
We're both men of the clergy here.
I told you then, and I'll tell you now,
not interested in your kind of religion.
I brought you a doctor. Meet Dr. Laiken.
Hi. It's a really nice
place you have here.
What do you want?
You have people suffering
from the virus, right?
- Yeah.
- We're managing.
I have a cure.
How do I even know you're a real doctor?
Dr. Laiken is one of
us. He's in a past state.
He's not marked. He's very
admired and respected here.
I was talking to him.
I had my own private
practice before the Great War.
In the city, I went into hiding for a year
until this gentle soul found me.
Gentle soul?
Look, your people don't
need to suffer. I can help.
We have a nurse, pharmacy.
I understand, but you
need outside medicine.
Nuts and berries isn't gonna be enough.
I have antibiotics and penicillin.
What do you really want?
Place to call home.
I can help. This, this is a
gift and I wanna share it.
Okay. You can stay, but he goes.
Sir, I can't do that.
This man saved my life.
Then you both go.
But he has what we need.
He has the antidote. He.
Remember we talked about forgiveness?
Okay. But you keep him on a short leave.
(exhales) Come with me.
(footsteps squishing)
(rain pattering)
Oh, oh, oh
(bell ringing)
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Please come gather around.
(snow pattering)
Hear the word of the Lord, everyone.
This is our book. This is not God's book.
This is our book.
We should live our lives
using this book together.
God brought us this wonderful snow.
You cold? So am I.
But come spring, we will not be cold.
Everything will be fine.
(intense electronic music)
Denny, thank you so much for dinner.
It was, uh, it was delightful.
(chuckles) It's the least I could do.
You have been so wonderful with everyone.
(inhales) Yeah, I didn't,
I didn't think Cooper
was gonna let us stay at first,
so thank you for defending me.
He means well. He's,
well, he's our protector.
(Laiken chuckling)
- Uh, what?
No, nothing, I was, look,
Cooper just wants control,
and I'm not gonna get
involved in that, you know?
I just, I just wanna help people.
(inhales) How long
have you been on the run?
A couple months.
(inhales) Do you think we're safe here?
(inhales) I believe this
place is just a rumor.
You know, we, we kind of
just stumbled upon it.
But honestly, I, I think the light bearer
had something to do with it.
The light bearer?
Yes, the light bearer.
The supreme being.
I mean, what, do you not believe
that he has control over the world?
I mean, it's very clear in the scriptures.
But the light bearer is evil.
Yes, the light bear is evil,
but is also in control, not Cooper.
(Denny sighing)
But look, my allegiance is to God.
(inhales) I, I don't understand.
I mean, you say that
and then you say "God."
I mean, are you a man of
faith or circumstances?
No, I, I am a man of souls.
Denny, do you not
understand that the world
is to be destroyed and all
those upon it to be eliminated?
You, me, us, everyone.
It's only a matter of time.
(breathes uneasily) But the Bible says
that he will build a New Earth.
Yes, God said that, but
first the Earth must die.
And we need to know our enemy.
(Denny sighing)
(soft dramatic music)
(chair creaking)
(breathes uneasily) Lai, Laiken, uh,
I'm, I'm not interested in that.
I, I'm, I'm sorry.
No, no. It's okay.
It's my fault.
I, I apologize. I'm sorry.
I just, I didn't realize
how strong Cooper's control was.
(Denny sighing)
Goodnight.
(door clicks and creaks)
(fire crackling)
(Denny sighing)
(Cooper inhales and exhales)
(footsteps tapping)
- Hi.
- Hi, good morning.
I, um, I made you some food
that you could take with you.
Wow, it's, it's early. Thank you.
Mm-hmm. How's Carson doing?
(bag zipping)
- He's good.
He's still sleeping. (Chuckles)
Hey, um, thank you for
helping out with him.
He really likes you. We, we both do.
(exhales) Thanks.
He's, he's a great kid.
- Yeah, he's a good kid.
- Mm-hmm.
So, uh, how's your new doctor?
Um, so far, so good. And
the fevers are going down.
I think it's working.
(inhales) Great.
(soft dramatic music)
(Denny sighing)
Hey, be careful out there.
(door clicking)
(Denny inhales and exhales)
A chaplain. (Chuckles)
(Denny inhaling)
(door clicking)
(bag rustling)
- Look, I got two eggs.
- Hey, good job, pal.
Listen, I need you to wake yourself up
and get yourself off to school, okay?
Why? Where are you going?
Gotta go away for a few days,
but I'm gonna have people check in on you.
Okay. But where are you going?
There's something I gotta do.
Hey, you look after him.
Your time will come.
Cooper was gone for days.
(rain pattering)
No one knew if he'd ever come back.
I, I watched, I waited and I
prayed for him every night.
- Did he come back?
- So who was in charge?
Who was taking care for you?
(thunder rumbling)
As they say, when the cat's
away the mice will play.
(soft dramatic music)
(quill scratching)
(pestle scraping)
Hello, Addison. What
brings you in today?
How's the research going?
It's going good.
I heard tell you found some new plants.
Ones that relax the mind.
I think we could all use
to be a little relaxed.
Cooper didn't want to do anything
with that particular research.
Well, um, (inhales) Cooper's not here.
(sword tapping)
I suppose I could dry some out for you.
Perfect.
We need to get some life back
in this place. You think?
Oh, yeah.
(hammer clinking)
Hey, big fella.
Wanted to talk to you about Cooper.
He's getting outta hand. You know that.
You can see that.
(hammer clinking)
He's gonna starve us all.
You don't care?
(fingers snapping)
Fella.
All right.
You make your bed.
(hammer clinking)
(door thudding)
(hammer clinking)
Cheryl. Hi, Stacy.
Oh, hey. Did you just print this?
Looks good.
I would like you to
print me some invitations
'cause we are gonna have a party.
Bonfire, dancing,
celebration, independence.
Today's our independence day.
So is that a yes?
I'll take that as a yes. Thank you.
(brush scratching)
No, keep going, keep
going. We got it, we got it.
Come on. There we go.
(person chuckling)
- There we go.
Hey, hey, hey, hey. I
thought Cooper said no fires.
Hey, we just put it out.
Oh, thank goodness, I guess we won't
all die today after all.
- What are you doing?
- I'm planning a get together.
We're already together.
You know what I mean.
And you all should come.
We're about to change the watch.
Let that go for the night.
We need to get back to living around here.
Cooper too. I mean, he's
too hard on these people.
He's a tyrant. He's worse than any enemy.
Uh, do you see anybody out here?
Have you ever met any of the fallen?
No, no, I haven't, and to be honest,
I don't believe they even exist anymore.
I mean, for all we know civilization's
back to normal out there somewhere,
and we're stuck here in the stone ages.
Come on. You can't
possibly believe that.
One night of celebration.
The whole camp.
Games, dancing, music.
(breathes uneasily) I
still want my men patrolling.
Who wants to go to a party tonight?
- Oh, I do.
- Yeah, yeah.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
Well, as new head of the council,
I give you the night off.
(festive folk music)
And you're invited too, big fella.
Everyone! People, come to the square!
It's time to celebrate our independence!
I've made snow! It's a sign!
It's time to celebrate.
Everyone, come to the square!
Let us celebrate our independence today.
Today. Right here, right now.
Come from everywhere. Let us celebrate.
It's a beautiful day to be free.
(fire crackling)
Grandma got run over by a reindeer.
- No, no, no.
- No?
My grandma says your grandma is going...
Shh, shh!
(festive folk music)
- Be quiet.
- What, huh, what, what?
- Hey!
- Shh, shh!
- What's up?
- Shh, shh.
(crowd cheering)
You hear that?
- Hmm?
I don't hear nothing.
(crowd cheering)
(festive folk music)
Come on.
(group chattering)
I got you now.
- What?
- Got who?
Oh, I've found you. (Chuckles)
- Who you got?
- Who you got?
Who you got?
Who you got?
Where'd he go?
(festive folk music)
Who you got?
(crowd cheering)
And the troll family went home
with all of the fresh
fruit and vegetables.
And the farmer, his wife
and his kids all sat around the table
and thanked God that they were able
to help someone in need.
The end.
All right, sweetie. It's
time for bed. (Kisses)
What's Christmas?
(soft dramatic music)
(Denny chuckling)
That's right. You've never
celebrated Christmas before.
Well, Christmas is, it's a magical time.
It's the time that God loved us so much
that he sent down his only son, Jesus.
It's a time to celebrate
the gifts of life.
Be grateful for friends and family.
And to gather around. You saw
the tree in the courtyard?
Yeah, it's all about the magic and love
and knowing that God loves us.
And it's a little bit about presents,
but you'll figure that out on your own.
Okay? Sleep Well. (Kisses)
(soft dramatic music continues)
(intense electronic music)
[Addison] You are the
one that the light bearer
brought back from the dead?
Well the chaplain is
gone. I'm in charge now.
These people, they follow me.
And if you want us to
bow before Balthazar,
I can make that happen.
- Yeah?
- I can.
(Addison gasping)
(knife stabbing)
(Addison groaning)
(tense electronic music)
(Addison gasping)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
You're welcome. (Laughs)
(Cooper clapping)
(soft dramatic music)
Congratulations. You found me.
- I thought you left.
- Mm, I was waiting for you.
This has always been about you and me.
Life and death.
(inhales) This is death.
Life is waiting for me.
The light bearer can
give you life. New life.
Not interested.
The King of King and Lord
of Lords is coming back.
I'll wait for him.
And you know, if you kill me,
I'll, I'll just come back again.
Then I'll kill you again.
Why did you come here?
(inhales) Do you believe
in Hell and the Lake of Fire?
I do.
Eternal pain for our punishment.
For our wickedness.
Yes.
What if I told you I came
here in search of your God?
The one true God?
Yeah. Would you believe me?
I would.
(exhales and inhales)
Could he take away my sins?
Yes. Could take away all of our sins.
No, chaplain.
If you kill me, throw me into a fire,
you'll never know me again.
But if you show me your
Lord, I will serve him.
The one true God. The God of Israel?
For the rest of my days.
Then he will spare your life.
He spared my life, all of our lives.
Now go. Go and follow him.
(hands rub and pat)
(dramatic vocalizing)
(Cooper chuckling)
(puddle splashing)
You, you're just gonna let him go?
Yeah. Let him go.
He'll be back.
(puddle splashing)
Okay.
(footsteps tapping)
So Aamon was a Christ follower?
Well, remember, um,
Aamon found that book.
It was the Bible.
(rain pattering)
He didn't know what he was holding.
It's a book forgotten by a
world that had outlawed them.
But the scripture says, "My
word will not return void."
And it didn't.
(gentle piano music)
Night after night in
the cold of the woods,
he would strike a fire just
bright enough to see the words.
He read them out loud,
whispered into the dark,
and slowly those words
became more than ink.
They became a voice in his heart.
A voice that cut through
the chaos and the ruin.
And it gave him something
this world had lost, hope.
That book, that simple,
fragile book changed him.
That's why they banned it.
(wind whistling)
(rain pattering)
- What about the star?
(chuckles) You know,
it's getting really late.
- Please tell us.
- Please!
- Come on, tell us.
- You need to tell us.
Please?
(thunder rumbling)
All right.
See the book Aamon found, the Bible,
it warned us but people wouldn't listen.
False prophets would rise.
It would look like light, but
they only serve the darkness.
And, uh, this is how the world ended.
This is how The Fort fell.
First off, thank you for allowing me
to preach here to you today.
I will be reading from
the Book of Revelation.
"And the first angel went and poured
his wrath upon the earth.
(soft dramatic music)
And brought about a
fever and painful sores.
But those that followed the
wandering star were saved."
A wandering star.
(inhales) Look, I am a simple man,
but I am a man of science,
and I am a man of the spirit.
(sighs) The Earth is dead!
Look at the sky, it is
spring and we have no sun,
no crops, no life.
(hand tapping)
The good book says, "Look
for the wandering star."
The Star of David, the
Star of the Messiah.
Well, the wandering star is coming near.
The hour is now.
Who will join me? Who will join me?
Who will join me?
- I will.
- I will.
- Drink, join him.
Please, you guys! You
guys, don't do this.
- Drink, drink!
- This is wrong!
- Give me a drink!
- Cursed!
Cursed!
- I need a drink!
- Give him a drink!
- Cursed!
Cursed! Cursed!
(breathes heavily) Come on, hurry.
(rain pattering)
Shh. Shh.
(thunder rumbling)
(soft dramatic music)
(explosion booming)
So you were saved?
We were saved.
Hey, I got something for all of you.
There you go. Just pass that out, okay?
Ooh.
(paper crinkling)
(Billy inhales and exhales)
(thunder rumbling)
- Can we open them?
- No, no, no, not yet.
Just hold on to 'em. You'll
know when the time is right.
How will we know?
One day, he will come back.
Not in secrets, not in
whispers, but in glory.
The sky will open and
every eye will see him.
There will be no more pain,
no more destruction, all go away.
The Bible says that he
will dry every tear.
There'll be no more hunger,
no more death, only life.
Only light. Real light.
Then you'll know when to open those.
And when he comes, he'll gather
all his children unto him.
(dramatic vocalizing)
(bright orchestral music)
(tongue clicking)
(Billy exhaling)
Thank you, God.
(dramatic vocalizing continues)
(dramatic vocalizing continues)
(thunder booming)
(eerie electronic music)
(door creaks and thuds)
(wind whistling)
Huh. Huh, well I'll be.
(door thuds)
You know, you got this wrong.
The chaplain's nose is
much, much bigger than this.
(person chuckling)
Ha.
(thunder rumbling)
Who, uh, who drew all these?
We all did.
We, we remembered what we could.
Uh, well,
(box tapping)
(sighs) you remembered more
than most. (Sniffs and sighs)
(thunder rumbling)
You know, once upon a time,
there are these places called playgrounds,
where kids would hang
upside down from metal bars.
They'd scrape their knees
and they would argue over who's it.
In schools, books, bells,
and these terrifying creatures
called math teachers.
(group chuckling)
And you're not gonna believe this,
but people actually got up
early to go there on purpose.
And there's this thing called church.
It's these buildings
where people always sang,
they cried, they hugged
strangers, and sometimes,
they'd fall asleep during the sermons.
Whole families would go
together to give thanks
to someone they never even
met or could even see.
I don't remember, I don't remember much,
'cause I was just a child.
I was younger than you
(chuckles) that time,
but that world, it was real.
(inhales) Just like the
painting of that man.
His name was Cooper. He was a chaplain.
They call him Coop. I (inhales
and exhales) called him Dad.
He saved me.
Saved a lot of us.
Many of them were your parents.
You see,
those pictures that you do, those,
they're more than stories,
they're, they're memories.
(thunder rumbling)
Memories for me,
memories of one that you all have as well.
Do you all know who he was?
- [All] Yeah.
- Do you wanna know who I am?
- [All] Yeah.
Think it's more important
that you found out who you are.
All right, so we could
lean in, listen close.
Gonna tell you a story.
The story of The Fort.
(soft piano music)
(thunder booming)
(crows cawing)
(birds chirping)
(wings flapping)
Rejoice always,
pray continuously,
give thanks in all circumstances.
(somber vocalizing)
(Cooper sobbing)
Give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will
for you in Christ Jesus. (Sobs)
(soft dramatic music)
(footsteps pattering)
Virus got 'em, huh?
Horrible thing. Horrible thing.
You probably suffered a lot too.
I heard you praying. I heard you crying.
Not much of a talker, are you?
You know what? Maybe you're
praying to the wrong God.
Huh. You live around here?
I just find it funny
that, uh, you carried both
of these bodies up here by yourself.
We got food if you're hungry.
Look, we're looking for followers.
My father's looking for followers.
He can protect you from the virus,
protect you from things on this Earth.
I have a hunch you and I
don't have the same father.
(tense electronic music)
Hallelujah. He talks.
Hallelujah to the one below.
You can end up like him. (Spits)
Now, now. Be kind to our new friend.
I don't think we're gonna be friends.
No, well, my father always loved crows.
So maybe we'll, (exhales) we'll
put you out with the crows.
Well, surely your father can save you.
I mean, it's three against one.
Ah!
(shovel whacking)
(crows cawing)
(knife stabbing)
Look, we can use someone like you.
Powerful, strong, strong-minded.
I don't think so.
I don't think you have a choice.
(shovel stabbing)
(Aamon groaning)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
Come join us. (Groans)
Come (breathes heavily) join us.
My father would be so proud.
Never.
(Aamon groaning)
He stretches his hand in wrath,
but God delivers his
right hand to save me.
(shovel stabbing)
(Aamon groaning)
(soft dramatic music)
(Aamon groaning)
(shovel scraping)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
(Aamon groaning)
(grass rustling)
(Aamon groaning)
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
Wounded from the fight,
Cooper returned to his cabin.
After he killed Aamon, or so he thought,
but he was in mourning after
burying his wife and his son.
Unfortunately, they
succumbed to the virus.
(door creaking)
(Cooper groaning)
(bag rustling)
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(clothes rustling)
(Cooper groaning)
But one thing about
Cooper you need to know
is he loved his country.
He was a survivor.
He was chaplain in military,
and he was trained to survive.
The food was running out and
he had to make a decision.
A decision that would change his destiny.
(group chattering)
(person knocking)
- Got a second?
- Yeah.
Did you see the Asian markets?
- I saw it. (Sighs)
- Well, what do you think?
Should we get our clients to pull out?
No. Let's give it the weekend.
Look, it's just a panic.
With America getting in the war,
everyone's a little nervous.
Nervous? The markets are crashing.
Uh, when I was in the military,
we called this the hype before the storm.
Now once we get over there,
everything will settle down.
You were in the military?
Yeah, I was Chaplain.
Go enjoy your weekend.
What? You're not coming
in for the weekend?
Here? Nah.
My wife booked a vacation
up in the mountains
up in West Virginia,
like this old settlement.
We thought it'd be cool
for Cody to, you know,
kind of learn about our American settlers.
Uh, it's actually a pretty cool place.
Got candle shops and
horses and old kitchens.
I mean, it's dead in
the middle of nowhere,
but I think it'll be fun.
Sounds cool. Have a good weekend, dude.
[Cooper] All right.
(phone beeping)
(tense electronic music)
(group chattering)
[Announcer] Thousands have been subject
to biological attack.
Blackouts from major
cities are spreading out
into the rural areas.
Hospitals already with the sick,
running dangerously
low on emergency power.
Officials fear hundreds of
thousands more will die.
As of yet, no one has taken
responsibility for the attack.
(static buzzing)
(remote clicking)
[Sarah] Who do you
think is attacking us?
I don't know. China, Iran.
Could be Russia.
I'm scared.
Sarah, I know. I am too.
I, I'm trying.
I promise, I'll do everything in my power
to keep you and Maddox safe.
(Sarah breathing uneasily)
Then why did you kill us?
(eerie electronic music)
What?
So Aamon was dead?
Well, not exactly.
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
The light bringer.
He was the, uh, master of
confusion and destruction.
People followed him.
They called him Father.
He also had these very powerful prophets
that roam the earth.
And they recruited for him.
And they killed those who were defiant.
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
(birds chirping)
Fools.
(inhales) What shall we do? (Exhales)
He gambled with his soul and lost.
Shall I let Ammon perish then?
That's what I thought.
(Balthazar sighs)
(crows cawing)
Our Father who rules the Earth
hallowed be Thy name.
In the light bearer's name,
we ask that Aamon be found worthy.
Awaken, Aamon. Awaken.
(wind howling)
(Aamon coughing)
Father has found you worthy.
Thank you, great prophet. (Groans)
The line has been crossed.
From this moment forward,
anyone without the mark
is to be killed on sight.
Do you understand?
Yes.
Good.
What about the others?
(tense electronic music)
They're not worthy.
And Aamon, whenever you
see the anointed one,
shoot him on the spot.
- The anointed one?
- Yes.
The chaplain who killed you and your men.
So now, Aamon was alive,
he had recruit more followers.
And he did.
(heavy rock music)
(group chattering)
(door slamming)
(footsteps tapping)
(Aamon inhales and exhales)
To the light bringer.
- To the light bringer!
- Woo!
Now who wants to follow me
to their unbridled, sacrificial death?
[Person] Oh, hell yeah.
- Woo.
- Yeah.
(Aamon sighing)
(heavy rock music)
I'm coming! Who wants a round, woo!
(Cashel blows kiss)
(thunder rumbling)
(rain pattering)
(door handle clatters and clacks)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(person moaning)
(people moaning)
(thunder rumbling)
(thunder rumbling)
(cane whacking)
- Who are you?
- Easy now.
How did you get in here?
Just an open door. I'll leave.
I don't want any trouble.
You marked?
Are you here to talk to God?
Uh, something like that.
Would you like to see God?
Now you take it easy now. I'll go.
Just tell me, what are
those voices I hear?
Those voices?
Those are the voices
in your head. (Laughs)
You hungry?
Uh, uh, yeah.
Come on over here. Follow me.
(rain pattering continues)
(soft dramatic music)
Hey, hey you! Where you going?
Where you going?
(door clicking)
Oh my God. How many
people do you have in here?
Some just leave some. Some just go.
Some disappear.
(group chattering)
Disappear?
Hard to explain, really, the reason.
We need to find a new place to go.
The patrols in this town are
getting tighter and tighter.
And the corrupt cops and the fallen,
well, they are ruthless.
Have you ever run into those guys?
Yeah, you could say that.
Everything is getting much
more difficult these days,
but enough about that, tell
us about yourself, Cooper.
(inhales) My family and I were, uh,
we took a trip during the reckoning.
Tried to teach 'em a little history.
And we tried to help everybody we could,
but most everyone there died.
And where is this place?
Not too far away. Out in the woods.
There's a lot of woods
around here, Mr. Cooper.
Indeed.
Hmm, so we bring you in, give you food,
and all we get is the woods?
For now.
(child coughing)
Pastor, are we going out tonight?
Yes. And you're going with us.
(tense electronic music)
(ball rolling)
Ha-ha-ha. That's a good one.
That's not.
Ha-ha-ha.
Sorry about your family.
You can understand why I
was being cautious. Right?
Course. Don't worry about it.
The fallen are hunting us.
If you don't have the mark,
you're as good as dead.
One thing you'll find out
if you cross the fallen,
they never let up.
(Cooper sighing)
Everybody ready? Let's go into town.
(switch clicking)
[Person] Be safe.
Hold onto to that
for me. Would you, pal?
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
Cooper, every night he
would send some of us out,
look for food, anything,
because without food,
well, you couldn't survive.
(Duggan breathing heavily)
(trash rustling)
(doorknob clattering)
Oh, no. Don't go in there.
- It's a kitchen.
- Wait.
There's a kitchen, there's food.
(door creaking)
(suspenseful electronic music)
Did you hear that?
- It's nothing.
- Shh, quiet.
[Duggan] Wait, we need this.
You don't hear that?
Sounds like kids crying.
Wait.
(pan clattering)
Shh.
That's enough. Weapon on the bar now.
(guard chuckling)
You know him?
Course not.
(rifle clattering)
- Get the weapon away.
Keep your hands up. Hands up.
Who's that crying?
- They cry all the time.
Who cries all the time?
(gun blasting)
(body thudding)
What have you done? Now
we gotta get outta here.
So you do know him.
Told you, no. We gotta get outta here.
(door thudding)
(eerie vocalizing)
Oh my God.
(siren wailing)
The police are outside.
We have to get out of here.
We can't leave these kids.
We have to. We'll come
back for them later.
Let's go.
I'll come back. I promise.
(soft dramatic music)
Every day, it would
be new people arriving.
(rain pattering)
And they would have pictures
of their missing loved ones.
That's so sad.
(thunder rumbling)
(Wendy singing)
[Duggan] Wendy, what are
you doing to yourself? No.
- I don't understand.
- Put these away.
Uh, I just don't understand.
Wait. They're gonna come back.
But we need to look forward.
- No. (Sobs)
- You need to look forward.
- No, I wanna go home.
- Come on, give 'em...
- I wanna go home!
- Give 'em back to me.
- (sobs) No.
- Come.
You're gonna be okay.
We're gonna look forward.
They're gonna come back. Let's pray on it.
Let's pray on it, okay?
- Okay.
Dear God...
But this night was different.
No one trusted anyone.
Even if you had priest
clothes on, it didn't,
it didn't matter because
everyone, everyone had a price.
(rain pattering)
(thunder rumbling)
(all breathing heavily)
We're going to have to
get out of here. No, no.
You have to get out of here.
Why?
'Cause there's gonna be
knocking on that door any minute.
Who's gonna come knocking on that door?
They, the police, the fallen.
Now why would they come here?
Duggan, you knew that guard, he knew you.
He only knew me as the
foolish preacher in town.
Preacher. Not someone marked.
- Well, wait.
- Let me see.
(soft dramatic music)
I can't believe this.
It was you all this time.
Preacher to traitor.
Look how far you've fallen.
(breathes heavily)
Why? Where's my sister?
And he did overcome it and
keepeth my work until the end.
But we'll give him the
power over the righteous.
I...
It isn't lurid anymore.
(breathes heavily) I'll kill you!
Those people did not run away!
You're better than this.
You're better than him.
I'm so stupid. (Breathes
heavily) We're all next.
We have to get going. Let's go now.
(Duggan laughing)
There's nowhere to go. Don't you see?
All is lost.
God has abandoned us.
"I will be with you always.
I will be with you until the end of time."
Matthew 20:20.
You're not the only preacher here.
(Duggan growling)
(hand slapping)
Let's go now.
Come on, buddy. I got ya.
Carry this for me. I have
to go get those kids.
- Where are we going?
- Go to the bridge
at the end of town, hide under it.
I'll be there.
- Okay, stay with me.
Let's go.
(eerie electronic music)
[Person] Nice.
(door creaking)
Are you the anointed one? (Echoes)
(soft dramatic music)
Hey. I told you I'd be back.
Come on. Let's go.
Quiet but quick.
Come on. Go, go, go, go.
Good job, good job. Go, go, quiet.
Help each other out.
(dramatic vocalizing)
All right. Come on.
You'll be okay. You'll be okay.
Okay. Good job.
(dramatic vocalizing)
Then when Cooper came
back for those kids,
he told me that he saw two figures.
He said their presence
burned against the darkness.
(rain pattering)
They were like two barriers
of light against the evil.
They all said, "And God
is not forsaken us."
As long as they were children
that were still breathing.
As long as the angel stood guard,
hope still had a place to hide.
Because he was coming back.
When is he coming back?
I'll get to that later.
(soft dramatic music)
(dramatic vocalizing)
(Cooper sighing)
What is this place?
This is our new home.
(footsteps pattering)
(dramatic vocalizing)
Come on. I'll show you around the place.
(dramatic vocalizing)
Did Aamon ever find
them and, and the others?
Well, he was looking
and he had some help.
That's why you must know the
story. You need to be ready.
Ready if it ever awakens again.
(board banging)
(Aamon sighing)
- Bound to have a pantry.
- No, that bar was good.
Look, a, a moose. Look at the moose.
No, man. I'm going to
find some canned goods.
We can't get any pills
anymore because you killed her.
Now we can't go back to that bar.
- Huh.
- All right.
She's still intact.
- Pills.
(cabinets clattering)
Look for anything.
(papers rustling)
(Aamon sighing)
(pages fluttering)
(door thudding)
(door creaking)
(Duggan gasping)
Hey.
(Duggan breathes heavily)
What are you doing here? Hmm?
Oh, I left the city.
This place was quiet.
(Duggan breathing heavily)
You have forsaken the light bearer.
The all-powerful Balthazar.
Don't kill me. I know
who you're looking for.
The chaplain. I can help
you. (Breathes uneasily)
He formed a new colony. Parasites.
They profess a new God.
There must be dozens of them or more.
Where are they?
I know who you are. (Breathes uneasily)
At the old settler's fort.
It's an old vacation spot many years ago.
That's where he's at.
Oh, no, no. That's all I have.
That's all I have.
(Aamon chuckling)
Have mercy on an old man. Please, please.
I do. (Groans) Oh, yeah,
oh, yeah, oh, yeah.
The old man. You know what?
(Duggan moaning)
(Aamon breathes heavily)
I will let you live.
I will let you live. (Sniffs)
(Duggan breathing uneasily)
- Go east.
- East, go east.
(Aamon exhaling)
Around 30 miles or so.
Kill him.
Kill the chaplain.
(tense electronic music)
(group chattering)
And that was about the
time everything happened.
We had been there about a month.
And other people had
learned of Cooper's fort
because more people kept coming.
It was like its own town, its own city.
We all had chores, we all pitched in,
but more people came with more problems.
The fear was just too real.
Cooper ran a civilized community,
but I don't think he asked
for it, but he was in charge.
(group chattering continues)
Shh. Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
- Shh.
(Cooper sighing)
(paper rustling)
They left last night?
With the kids.
- All of them?
- What'd you expect?
You run this place like
a concentration camp.
They said they were
going back to the city.
(chuckles) There's just nothing there.
Oh, and you find that funny?
If people wanna leave, you can leave.
That's less mouths to feed.
Look, the best case
scenario is that somehow
they make it out and live some great life,
but the worst case scenario
is that they tell the fallen where we are.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
If you would let them live their lives
Live? You call this living?
We're not living, we're surviving.
Wes, I need you to double the patrols.
I need everyone to help.
And you keep an eye on the east bank.
And no fires.
- No fires?
- What?
- Are you out of your mind?
Cooper, it is freezing.
What about our family?
No fires? Can't live without fire.
No fires.
[Person] Hey, we gotta have
some fire. What are we...
(group chattering)
- Has, has he lost his...
- What are we gonna do?
- Did you hear that?
Are you hearing him?
- Yeah, yeah.
- It's crazy.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- We gotta talk.
And we gotta talk now.
- Mm-hmm.
- Yes.
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(poker clinking)
Carson?
Carson?
(footsteps tapping)
Hey, buddy.
- This is the only one I got today.
All right, well that's
your breakfast today.
Hey, uh, I need you to go get
dressed. You got school today.
I only have two outfits.
Does it really matter?
Yeah, it matters. And
wear something warm.
I gotta keep the fire out.
(Carson sighing)
Go on.
(footsteps tapping)
(Cooper sighing)
We need to patrol.
- Hey, he took my shoes.
- This area right here.
Because if they come in.
- Where's my shoes?
They're gonna come in from here.
Hey, you got my shoes!
You took my, those are my shoes!
What? These are my shoes.
- What are you doing?
- Stop it!
They're not! Give me those!
- Hey!
- These are my shoes!
- What are you-
- Chill out!
- Hey, hey!
- Oh, let go!
- These are my shoes.
- They're not your shoes!
Enough!
(soft dramatic music)
Enough. Do you want us to be found?
Those your shoes?
- Those are my shoes!
- I found them.
- You found 'em in my cabin.
We do not steal. We do not fight.
We do not yell. This is how we die.
Stockade, both of you.
- What?
And the longer you make noise,
the longer you stay there.
- Come on.
- These are mine.
I found them.
- Oh, come on.
And what, what?
Come on. (Groans)
Oh, come on.
- Get me outta here.
- Hook him.
- Get me outta here.
- You took 'em.
The longer they make
noise, the longer they stay.
- No.
- I didn't do anything.
- Shh.
- Get me outta here.
This is how we get found.
This is what kills us.
We fight, we die.
We stay together, we survive.
Unity.
Get back to work now.
(rain pattering)
- The chaplain sounds cruel.
No, no. He was protecting us.
He knew that they were
still hunting for him.
Uh, hunting for us.
I mean, don't forget, the
virus was still out there.
Uh, our whole sector was under quarantine,
but it was still spreading.
So it was just, just a matter of time.
(group moans and coughs)
(rain pattering)
- Is it safe?
- Yeah, it's okay.
Nothing is working.
The virus just keeps spreading
and feeding on the others.
Do they have food?
A little.
(sighs) Nights are getting colder.
And I heard no more fires.
Fires make smoke, smoke goes in the air.
They see the smoke, they find us.
How am I supposed to
sterilize the bandage?
Okay, just do it quickly.
Me Tonto. Me understand.
Do I really sound like that?
(chuckles) A little.
(sighs) Okay, sure didn't
think I did, but if you say so.
We gotta do something about this rain.
Maybe build a shelter for them.
(bell ringing)
That's the, uh, that's the lunch bell.
That, that means it's lunch.
I mean, if you're gonna eat lunch.
I, I, I mean, (Denny chuckling)
Maybe we could eat at the same time.
I, I mean it is the same time,
but do you want to eat together with me?
(tongue clicking)
Do we feed the prisoners?
(Cooper scoffing)
I mean, we feed the dead.
What would you have me do?
I didn't want any of this.
I don't wanna be a leader.
I wanted to live my days out alone.
And then you (inhales and exhales)
And everyone else showed up.
(inhales) As I recall, you
brought most of us with you.
(Cooper sighing)
You mad that others left?
No, I'm mad that they will get caught
and real hell come down upon us.
And I mean, real hell.
(Denny inhales and exhales)
(soft dramatic music)
Tell me, you still
having the nightmares?
No, no. Not now.
Well, how's Carson doing
now that all the kids left?
Uh, he's lonely, but I'm trying
to keep him focused on school.
He loves the Christmas tree and the story
of gift-giving that you told him.
(Denny chuckling)
- Nurse Denny,
would you mind coming and
looking at my husband?
He's, has a fever and he's coughing.
- Uh, okay, um.
- Go.
(soft dramatic music)
Hey, I'm here for you.
Yeah, except for my lunch date.
It's, uh, it's getting colder.
It's hard to find enough
food for everyone.
Thankful for all the
shelters that we have.
And some good people have come
in, but it's getting harder
and harder to take care of all of them.
I feel obligated.
You know how I feel about family.
Carson's doing as good as he can.
I gotta make him go to school every day,
but he's a smart kid.
He misses you.
(sighs) I miss you so much. (Inhales)
(pen tapping)
(soft dramatic music continues)
(coat rustling)
(thunder rumbling)
(bed creaking)
(wind whistling)
(tense electronic music)
(flies buzzing)
(person screaming)
(Cooper breathing heavily)
(group chattering)
(Cooper sniffs and sighs)
Knows where she's been
- Shut up!
- What, huh?
(group chattering)
Shut up.
(fire crackling)
Hmm.
Light bearer, all powerful
Balthazar. (Breathes uneasily)
(tense electronic music)
I summon the demons from hell
to bring forth the Angel of Death.
For those who don't repent
and make them suffer.
Make them suffer for their disobedience.
(creepy breathing)
Show me the chaplain.
Where can I find the chaplain?
(creepy breathing continues)
(rain pattering)
- Aamon was getting close.
Now the group that left,
one of them came back,
and Cooper thought it was a trap.
He, he didn't know who to trust anymore.
(fist whacking)
- Oh! (Coughs)
- Oh my God.
- No, no, no.
Why did you come back?
- I saw him.
- Saw who?
- Aamon.
- You saw Aamon?
- Uh, he's up on the ridge.
- Where are the others?
- (coughs) I don't know.
They left me. (Coughs)
- Why did you come back?
- 'Cause I was...
- Did you say
anything to him, did you?
- (coughs) No!
- Answer me, did you?
- No!
- Please, no, Cooper, please!
- Did you?
Oh, please, Cooper, please stop.
(gasps) This, this isn't you.
This isn't, this isn't you. Uh.
(gasps) We need you. Please.
Get the community together.
(Denny crying)
(door creaking)
(Cooper inhaling)
(person groaning)
Let him go.
(hammer clattering)
(person coughing)
(group chattering)
(thunder rumbling)
(rain pattering)
Coop, Coop, we need to let
those prisoners go out there.
It's cold.
- It's raining.
- Yeah.
- Freezing.
- It's freezing cold rain.
- Yeah.
Let them go. (Exhales)
When the prodigal son came
home, the father rejoiced.
When our prodigal sons come
home, we beat them. (Sighs)
Fear makes men mad.
Are you the madman? Should
we appoint a new leader?
Not yet.
(group chattering)
If Aamon is nearby, we need to find him.
Now that's the talk of a madman.
Find a man who cannot die
so he can kill us all.
- Aamon is looking for us.
- No, he is looking for you.
Then I'll go.
(papers rustling)
(group chattering)
- I don't know.
- What, what's happening?
- What's happening?
- Good riddance.
Things will be better now.
(group chattering)
(papers rustling)
(gentle piano music)
(chair creaking)
(Cooper blowing)
(Cooper sighing)
You focusing on your school work?
Uh, a little.
A little bit? What is
there somebody cute there?
Mm. Uh.
- Sure about that?
- Yeah.
Okay. I'm gonna ask around. (Chuckles)
Hey, listen, buddy, I gotta go hunting,
so I need you to get yourself up
and get to school every day.
Okay.
Is Denny coming over?
I don't know. Maybe.
Why do you ask?
- No reason.
No reason, huh? Okay.
She's nice, though, isn't she?
Yeah.
It's good to have nice people over here.
(Cody clears throat and sighs)
[Cody] Did you make this?
Did the best I could. (Inhales)
- Bad.
- Bad?
Look at this?
Remember, I was a chaplain,
not a cook. (Chuckles)
(tense electronic music)
(rain pattering)
Cooper was having all these nightmares.
The stress was getting to him.
I mean, a man can only handle so much
with all the, the sick and all the dying.
But then long came a ray of
hope. Or at least we thought.
[Cooper] This can't be good.
I come in peace, Cooper.
Look, we don't want any problems here.
We're both men of the clergy here.
I told you then, and I'll tell you now,
not interested in your kind of religion.
I brought you a doctor. Meet Dr. Laiken.
Hi. It's a really nice
place you have here.
What do you want?
You have people suffering
from the virus, right?
- Yeah.
- We're managing.
I have a cure.
How do I even know you're a real doctor?
Dr. Laiken is one of
us. He's in a past state.
He's not marked. He's very
admired and respected here.
I was talking to him.
I had my own private
practice before the Great War.
In the city, I went into hiding for a year
until this gentle soul found me.
Gentle soul?
Look, your people don't
need to suffer. I can help.
We have a nurse, pharmacy.
I understand, but you
need outside medicine.
Nuts and berries isn't gonna be enough.
I have antibiotics and penicillin.
What do you really want?
Place to call home.
I can help. This, this is a
gift and I wanna share it.
Okay. You can stay, but he goes.
Sir, I can't do that.
This man saved my life.
Then you both go.
But he has what we need.
He has the antidote. He.
Remember we talked about forgiveness?
Okay. But you keep him on a short leave.
(exhales) Come with me.
(footsteps squishing)
(rain pattering)
Oh, oh, oh
(bell ringing)
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Oh, oh
Oh, you need me
Oh, you need me
Please come gather around.
(snow pattering)
Hear the word of the Lord, everyone.
This is our book. This is not God's book.
This is our book.
We should live our lives
using this book together.
God brought us this wonderful snow.
You cold? So am I.
But come spring, we will not be cold.
Everything will be fine.
(intense electronic music)
Denny, thank you so much for dinner.
It was, uh, it was delightful.
(chuckles) It's the least I could do.
You have been so wonderful with everyone.
(inhales) Yeah, I didn't,
I didn't think Cooper
was gonna let us stay at first,
so thank you for defending me.
He means well. He's,
well, he's our protector.
(Laiken chuckling)
- Uh, what?
No, nothing, I was, look,
Cooper just wants control,
and I'm not gonna get
involved in that, you know?
I just, I just wanna help people.
(inhales) How long
have you been on the run?
A couple months.
(inhales) Do you think we're safe here?
(inhales) I believe this
place is just a rumor.
You know, we, we kind of
just stumbled upon it.
But honestly, I, I think the light bearer
had something to do with it.
The light bearer?
Yes, the light bearer.
The supreme being.
I mean, what, do you not believe
that he has control over the world?
I mean, it's very clear in the scriptures.
But the light bearer is evil.
Yes, the light bear is evil,
but is also in control, not Cooper.
(Denny sighing)
But look, my allegiance is to God.
(inhales) I, I don't understand.
I mean, you say that
and then you say "God."
I mean, are you a man of
faith or circumstances?
No, I, I am a man of souls.
Denny, do you not
understand that the world
is to be destroyed and all
those upon it to be eliminated?
You, me, us, everyone.
It's only a matter of time.
(breathes uneasily) But the Bible says
that he will build a New Earth.
Yes, God said that, but
first the Earth must die.
And we need to know our enemy.
(Denny sighing)
(soft dramatic music)
(chair creaking)
(breathes uneasily) Lai, Laiken, uh,
I'm, I'm not interested in that.
I, I'm, I'm sorry.
No, no. It's okay.
It's my fault.
I, I apologize. I'm sorry.
I just, I didn't realize
how strong Cooper's control was.
(Denny sighing)
Goodnight.
(door clicks and creaks)
(fire crackling)
(Denny sighing)
(Cooper inhales and exhales)
(footsteps tapping)
- Hi.
- Hi, good morning.
I, um, I made you some food
that you could take with you.
Wow, it's, it's early. Thank you.
Mm-hmm. How's Carson doing?
(bag zipping)
- He's good.
He's still sleeping. (Chuckles)
Hey, um, thank you for
helping out with him.
He really likes you. We, we both do.
(exhales) Thanks.
He's, he's a great kid.
- Yeah, he's a good kid.
- Mm-hmm.
So, uh, how's your new doctor?
Um, so far, so good. And
the fevers are going down.
I think it's working.
(inhales) Great.
(soft dramatic music)
(Denny sighing)
Hey, be careful out there.
(door clicking)
(Denny inhales and exhales)
A chaplain. (Chuckles)
(Denny inhaling)
(door clicking)
(bag rustling)
- Look, I got two eggs.
- Hey, good job, pal.
Listen, I need you to wake yourself up
and get yourself off to school, okay?
Why? Where are you going?
Gotta go away for a few days,
but I'm gonna have people check in on you.
Okay. But where are you going?
There's something I gotta do.
Hey, you look after him.
Your time will come.
Cooper was gone for days.
(rain pattering)
No one knew if he'd ever come back.
I, I watched, I waited and I
prayed for him every night.
- Did he come back?
- So who was in charge?
Who was taking care for you?
(thunder rumbling)
As they say, when the cat's
away the mice will play.
(soft dramatic music)
(quill scratching)
(pestle scraping)
Hello, Addison. What
brings you in today?
How's the research going?
It's going good.
I heard tell you found some new plants.
Ones that relax the mind.
I think we could all use
to be a little relaxed.
Cooper didn't want to do anything
with that particular research.
Well, um, (inhales) Cooper's not here.
(sword tapping)
I suppose I could dry some out for you.
Perfect.
We need to get some life back
in this place. You think?
Oh, yeah.
(hammer clinking)
Hey, big fella.
Wanted to talk to you about Cooper.
He's getting outta hand. You know that.
You can see that.
(hammer clinking)
He's gonna starve us all.
You don't care?
(fingers snapping)
Fella.
All right.
You make your bed.
(hammer clinking)
(door thudding)
(hammer clinking)
Cheryl. Hi, Stacy.
Oh, hey. Did you just print this?
Looks good.
I would like you to
print me some invitations
'cause we are gonna have a party.
Bonfire, dancing,
celebration, independence.
Today's our independence day.
So is that a yes?
I'll take that as a yes. Thank you.
(brush scratching)
No, keep going, keep
going. We got it, we got it.
Come on. There we go.
(person chuckling)
- There we go.
Hey, hey, hey, hey. I
thought Cooper said no fires.
Hey, we just put it out.
Oh, thank goodness, I guess we won't
all die today after all.
- What are you doing?
- I'm planning a get together.
We're already together.
You know what I mean.
And you all should come.
We're about to change the watch.
Let that go for the night.
We need to get back to living around here.
Cooper too. I mean, he's
too hard on these people.
He's a tyrant. He's worse than any enemy.
Uh, do you see anybody out here?
Have you ever met any of the fallen?
No, no, I haven't, and to be honest,
I don't believe they even exist anymore.
I mean, for all we know civilization's
back to normal out there somewhere,
and we're stuck here in the stone ages.
Come on. You can't
possibly believe that.
One night of celebration.
The whole camp.
Games, dancing, music.
(breathes uneasily) I
still want my men patrolling.
Who wants to go to a party tonight?
- Oh, I do.
- Yeah, yeah.
- Yes.
- Yeah.
Well, as new head of the council,
I give you the night off.
(festive folk music)
And you're invited too, big fella.
Everyone! People, come to the square!
It's time to celebrate our independence!
I've made snow! It's a sign!
It's time to celebrate.
Everyone, come to the square!
Let us celebrate our independence today.
Today. Right here, right now.
Come from everywhere. Let us celebrate.
It's a beautiful day to be free.
(fire crackling)
Grandma got run over by a reindeer.
- No, no, no.
- No?
My grandma says your grandma is going...
Shh, shh!
(festive folk music)
- Be quiet.
- What, huh, what, what?
- Hey!
- Shh, shh!
- What's up?
- Shh, shh.
(crowd cheering)
You hear that?
- Hmm?
I don't hear nothing.
(crowd cheering)
(festive folk music)
Come on.
(group chattering)
I got you now.
- What?
- Got who?
Oh, I've found you. (Chuckles)
- Who you got?
- Who you got?
Who you got?
Who you got?
Where'd he go?
(festive folk music)
Who you got?
(crowd cheering)
And the troll family went home
with all of the fresh
fruit and vegetables.
And the farmer, his wife
and his kids all sat around the table
and thanked God that they were able
to help someone in need.
The end.
All right, sweetie. It's
time for bed. (Kisses)
What's Christmas?
(soft dramatic music)
(Denny chuckling)
That's right. You've never
celebrated Christmas before.
Well, Christmas is, it's a magical time.
It's the time that God loved us so much
that he sent down his only son, Jesus.
It's a time to celebrate
the gifts of life.
Be grateful for friends and family.
And to gather around. You saw
the tree in the courtyard?
Yeah, it's all about the magic and love
and knowing that God loves us.
And it's a little bit about presents,
but you'll figure that out on your own.
Okay? Sleep Well. (Kisses)
(soft dramatic music continues)
(intense electronic music)
[Addison] You are the
one that the light bearer
brought back from the dead?
Well the chaplain is
gone. I'm in charge now.
These people, they follow me.
And if you want us to
bow before Balthazar,
I can make that happen.
- Yeah?
- I can.
(Addison gasping)
(knife stabbing)
(Addison groaning)
(tense electronic music)
(Addison gasping)
(Aamon breathing heavily)
You're welcome. (Laughs)
(Cooper clapping)
(soft dramatic music)
Congratulations. You found me.
- I thought you left.
- Mm, I was waiting for you.
This has always been about you and me.
Life and death.
(inhales) This is death.
Life is waiting for me.
The light bearer can
give you life. New life.
Not interested.
The King of King and Lord
of Lords is coming back.
I'll wait for him.
And you know, if you kill me,
I'll, I'll just come back again.
Then I'll kill you again.
Why did you come here?
(inhales) Do you believe
in Hell and the Lake of Fire?
I do.
Eternal pain for our punishment.
For our wickedness.
Yes.
What if I told you I came
here in search of your God?
The one true God?
Yeah. Would you believe me?
I would.
(exhales and inhales)
Could he take away my sins?
Yes. Could take away all of our sins.
No, chaplain.
If you kill me, throw me into a fire,
you'll never know me again.
But if you show me your
Lord, I will serve him.
The one true God. The God of Israel?
For the rest of my days.
Then he will spare your life.
He spared my life, all of our lives.
Now go. Go and follow him.
(hands rub and pat)
(dramatic vocalizing)
(Cooper chuckling)
(puddle splashing)
You, you're just gonna let him go?
Yeah. Let him go.
He'll be back.
(puddle splashing)
Okay.
(footsteps tapping)
So Aamon was a Christ follower?
Well, remember, um,
Aamon found that book.
It was the Bible.
(rain pattering)
He didn't know what he was holding.
It's a book forgotten by a
world that had outlawed them.
But the scripture says, "My
word will not return void."
And it didn't.
(gentle piano music)
Night after night in
the cold of the woods,
he would strike a fire just
bright enough to see the words.
He read them out loud,
whispered into the dark,
and slowly those words
became more than ink.
They became a voice in his heart.
A voice that cut through
the chaos and the ruin.
And it gave him something
this world had lost, hope.
That book, that simple,
fragile book changed him.
That's why they banned it.
(wind whistling)
(rain pattering)
- What about the star?
(chuckles) You know,
it's getting really late.
- Please tell us.
- Please!
- Come on, tell us.
- You need to tell us.
Please?
(thunder rumbling)
All right.
See the book Aamon found, the Bible,
it warned us but people wouldn't listen.
False prophets would rise.
It would look like light, but
they only serve the darkness.
And, uh, this is how the world ended.
This is how The Fort fell.
First off, thank you for allowing me
to preach here to you today.
I will be reading from
the Book of Revelation.
"And the first angel went and poured
his wrath upon the earth.
(soft dramatic music)
And brought about a
fever and painful sores.
But those that followed the
wandering star were saved."
A wandering star.
(inhales) Look, I am a simple man,
but I am a man of science,
and I am a man of the spirit.
(sighs) The Earth is dead!
Look at the sky, it is
spring and we have no sun,
no crops, no life.
(hand tapping)
The good book says, "Look
for the wandering star."
The Star of David, the
Star of the Messiah.
Well, the wandering star is coming near.
The hour is now.
Who will join me? Who will join me?
Who will join me?
- I will.
- I will.
- Drink, join him.
Please, you guys! You
guys, don't do this.
- Drink, drink!
- This is wrong!
- Give me a drink!
- Cursed!
Cursed!
- I need a drink!
- Give him a drink!
- Cursed!
Cursed! Cursed!
(breathes heavily) Come on, hurry.
(rain pattering)
Shh. Shh.
(thunder rumbling)
(soft dramatic music)
(explosion booming)
So you were saved?
We were saved.
Hey, I got something for all of you.
There you go. Just pass that out, okay?
Ooh.
(paper crinkling)
(Billy inhales and exhales)
(thunder rumbling)
- Can we open them?
- No, no, no, not yet.
Just hold on to 'em. You'll
know when the time is right.
How will we know?
One day, he will come back.
Not in secrets, not in
whispers, but in glory.
The sky will open and
every eye will see him.
There will be no more pain,
no more destruction, all go away.
The Bible says that he
will dry every tear.
There'll be no more hunger,
no more death, only life.
Only light. Real light.
Then you'll know when to open those.
And when he comes, he'll gather
all his children unto him.
(dramatic vocalizing)
(bright orchestral music)
(tongue clicking)
(Billy exhaling)
Thank you, God.
(dramatic vocalizing continues)
