battlefield come over morrow...
This crown is yours by right.
Hello, Knight.
Me and your father used
to play in these woods.
What will they be tomorrow?
The home of barbarians?
Savages?
If you lose this battle, you lose the war.
Our Kingdom will be lost forever.
They'll kill the King.
And take his throne.
You weren't raised to be a king but...
If I fall, you might be one.
What kind of king will you be I wonder?
- Welcome knight, to my woods.
- The kind of king who...
Rules by the sword or with wisdom.
Who lives.
Or dies?
Your royal blood is mine.
[Crows chirping]
A lonely knight wanders through my woods...
It is he who answers to me.
Do you know how I've
survived so many battles?
My friend?
[Evil laughing]
Beat me...
And I'll tell you.
Come forth, if you so dare!
Believe me child, I've cared
for you since you were a babe.
Do you wanna know the secret?
To how I survived, all these years?
[Peaceful guitar melody plays]
[Light footsteps]
I hear ill tidings of
your uncle's campaign.
Are the Heathen Hordes as near as they say?
If you heard the bird song,
you'd deem it the word of God.
Shall I take that as a no?
Not exactly.
I heard tales from
Languia: Women put to the
sword and thatch smoke blackening the sky.
Too long have you
known the safety of the city.
Beyond these walls there
are things you can't imagine.
Demons and black magic.
Since when do you believe in fairy tales?
Believe me child, I've cared
for thee since you were a babe.
I don't want you to throw your life away.
Throw your life away
for a bloody foolish war.
Don't say such things.
The King would have your head for treason
and I wouldn't be able to do a thing.
My apologies, sir.
I begin to consider the
time this kingdom has left.
The King has asked me to ride
alongside him and that is what I shall do.
I am a knight and his kin. It is my duty.
If you lose this battle, you lose the war.
Our kingdom will be lost forever.
They'll kill the king and take his throne.
As the blood of the king, you will
be a handsome prize for our enemy.
They'll take you...
Question you...
Torture you...
Try to bargain with you and
use you to get into these walls.
If you find yourself in such a
predicament as this, take this.
The Hill Folk call it the Pauper's Bane.
It will bring you to an endless
slumber: A painless death...
Much more gentle than steel.

[The Knight hits the ground]
Forgive me, my King.
Are you going to leave my
nephew there lying in the mud?
[Tense music plays]
The lord's daughter was a tasty fuck ey?
After we shut the lord up that is.
She was indeed a pretty prize.
That bitch wouldn't be
worth ten whores back home.
Couldn't stand the kicking.
Calm it boys.
I smell ash in the air.
Well, what do we have here?
Watch it!
Watch it.
Are you one of ours I wonder.
Or...
Check his arm our!
[Laughs]
- You fool.
No sigil...
Is just as bad as the enemy's sigil.
It seems we've caught
ourselves a deserter boys!
A deserter with fine steel.
You should've fallen with your King boy.
Now you'll die a coward's death.
[Mocking chuckle]
We've been scouring
these lands for coward's
and food and now we stumble upon both.
I always liked it cold...
It's how I had it as a boy.
[Intense music builds]
That was just what I needed.
Now. Where were we?
Ah yes!
Time for the deserter to die.
Any final words?

Who's out there?
Hello knight.
Who are you?
A lonely knight wanders through my woods.
It is he who answers to me.
Your woods?
You look not a knight,
but a phantom traveller.
This journey has been sour, has it not?
Where there once slept hope
within you, now lies a hollow chamber.
I saw you kill those men.
Nothing goes unseen in my forest.
And when a guilty knight steps foot
here, he might best have a reason.
Your king is dead and so is his kingdom.
The wind tells me another sits on your
throne, wears your
crown, hoards your riches.
You are a third in line, born to a younger
son, with all your
fathers and brothers dead.
You are the rightful king now.
Pity your crown's been taken.
You speak of the wind.
What are you? A sorceress?
What do you know of my kingdom?
What do you know of my king?
What do you know of swords?
These are my woods, sweet hallowed night.
And you can call me the Lady
of Bones, if it so please you.
Look into my eyes and
tell me you do not thirst.
I can quench your desires,
your deepest desires.
A knight best have a reason for
stumbling into the witch's wood eh?
There is a monster in these woods boy.
A monster up the mountain.
A monster made of darkness.
He is my only foe, my only fear.
A witch has no sword, only spells.
But a handsome knight like
you could slay him, could he not?
Your redemption lies beyond the river.
Pass along the Nyrn Wall
and go beyond the Old Bridge.
Stain the stone cross with
your blood and slay my monster.
Then, and only then, shall I
give you back your kingdom.
Go forth and redeem your fading honour.
Stain my dagger in the
monster's blood and soak
it in moonlight when
your journey is complete.
Only then will you have your crown.
Do you pledge yourself?
I'll need more than a nod.
Seal our agreement with a kiss.
This lonely witch has no
one but rabbits and robins.
Welcome knight to my woods.
[Rocks shifting]
[Epic music builds]
Forgive me, my King.
Are you going to leave my
nephew there lying in the mud?
I asked him to practice with me...
He's said to be a great - I know who he
is. I know the face of
every man in my army.
Even the sell swords.
Sellswords outnumber
my loyal forces now I'm told.
Leave us.
With Roderick...
And Beynan dead.
And my brothers captured or slain.
As I'm sure you know by now boy.
If I am to fall on the
battlefield come over morrow.
This crown is yours by right.
How it came to this...
I'll never know.
What is it?
I didn't spend enough
time with you, did I boy?
Your father and I...
Walk with me.
Me and your father used
to play in these woods.
What will they be tomorrow?
The home of barbarians...
Savages?
[Footsteps in mud]
[Thoughtful music continues]
[Tense music plays]
[Bites apple]
[Dreaded music builds]
[Whispering]
I would like to cross the bridge.
Sir?
Can you hear me?
Take it please. There's plenty on the path.
They won't answer you.
What are they?
Beggars, claimed by time and hunger.
Too weak to cross the bridge.
And who are you?
I'm Sir Aelfric Oswine,
Knight of the Old Bridge.
Leal guardsman to King Godric II.
King Godric... King Godric...
King Godric II of House Woelfred?
Of course, he's the protector
of the land you walk on.
You should yield to his name.
King Godric has been dead for 400 years!
Sir Aelfric?
Sir Aelfric?
Sir Aelfric?
I need to cross this bridge.
Just as it's your duty to protect it.
It's mine to cross it.
Are you prepared to die?
I am.
Are you ready?
Very well.
[Sword slices neck]
[Apple falls]
[Sword strikes water]
[Adventurous music builds]
[Heavy wind]
[Footsteps]
Pass along the Nyrn Wall.
Go beyond the Old Bridge.
And stain my blood on the stone cross.
[Unsheathes the Witch Blade]
Many men have came through here lad.
None of 'em come back.
Do you know the way to the mountain?
Go North until you can go North no further.
There's a cave atop your mountain.
Whatever you seek, lies in that cave.
Whether you return, I can't say.
[Slices hand]
[Drunkard starts singing]
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Farewell sweet knight!
[Drunkard continues his song]
Do you hear the lion's roar?
[Guitar rendition begins]
Cry your last and cry it like it's fire.
The blood, the ground, the rocks.
His chest is torn and broken as the dawn.
This fight will be the last.
They fall, they burn,
they all take their turn.
Each man his bones is cold.
And when you hear your dying leave...
Do you hear the lion's roar?
A man alone, only answers to himself.
Though God sees all he's done.
Who have found you here?
Who hath known such a fear?
Are you the only one?
Where once was hope now burns alone.
You fled out of that war.
The bode you live. The lives they give.
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Secrets untold, possess
these hallowed bones.
Do you know what's in these woods?
Troubles inhaled. Become a witches whale.
She'll have your soul for good.
The devil inside, he knows where you hide.
He's walked this Earth before.
But you young knight...
Your fate they decide.
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear him it at all?
His voice is hoarse and worn.
He once stood tall, long
before the kingdom's fall.
These grounds have sunk like bones.
There is a monster in these woods boy.
A monster up the mountain.
[Sword unsheathes] A
monster made of darkness.
He is my only foe, my only fear.
Slay my monster.
Then, and only then, shall I
give you back your kingdom.
Do you pledge yourself?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
[Fire torch lights]
[Tense music plays]
Too long have you
known the safety of the city.
Beyond these walls there
are things you can't imagine.
Demons and black magic!
Since when do you believe in fairy tales?
[Scuttling footsteps]
[Music builds in intensity]
[Draugr growling]
[Draugr war cry]
Walk with me.
Me and your father used
to play in these woods...
What will they be tomorrow?
The home of barbarians?
Savages?
We'll crush them.
Make hell their home.
Your father said the same.
And where is he now?
He was a good Knight, through and through.
Raised that way, as I in
turn was raised a King.
You weren't raised to be a King...
But if I fall, you might be one.
What kind of King will you be, I wonder?
The kind of King who
rules by the sword or...
With wisdom.
Who lives...
Or dies?
[Running and heavy breathing]
What is it, boy? Tell me quick.
My king, my king...
The enemy have been
sighted a day's ride from here!
They've taken our battlements
and the roads have fallen.
There's little more we can do.
A painless death, much
more gentle than steel.
Yet my boy, do not let the
flower be your first resort.
Take the sword by your side...
And fight my boy!
Fight with all you have, with
the lion's fury and the lion's heart!
Fight! Fight! Fight!
[Fire Torch hits the floor]
[Swords clang]
[Heavy grunt]
[Knight crashes to floor]
[Sword hits shield] Do you know
how I've survived so many battles?
I don't want you to throw your life away.
Stain my dagger in the monster's blood!
[Fleshy stab]
Come forth, if you so dare!
[Blade releases from flesh]
[Sword picked up]
[Battle sounds]
[Deathly rasps]
Do you wanna...
Do you wanna know the secret?
To how I survived...
All these years.
I ran.
[Battle sounds intensify]
There once was a Knight.
This Knight was said to be
the bravest in all the kingdom.
But he had a secret.
This Knight of the king carried fear.
A fear of death.
One fateful autumn, when the
leaves were falling from the oaks.
The kingdom fell too.
And like a falling leaf
escaping its withering tree.
Our Knight fled into the woods.
There the Knight rotted and wasted.
Consumed by deserters guilt
But amongst those trees instead of death.
Yet he found a princess, one chained
away by the might of a deadly monster.
Looking to reclaim his honour, the Knight
challenged the monster to a fateful duel.
Did he win mother?
- Yes mother did he win?
- Shh. Wait and see...
Foul and made of
darkness, the beast agreed.
Blood was spilt by both man and myth.
In the end, it was the Knight
who emerged victorious.
The princess his reward.
With his new found honour,
the Knight returned home to
take back his kingdom from
the usurper in a great war.
Against all odds, it wasn't long
before the Knight was a King.
And his princess a queen.
When peace was had throughout
the kingdom, they settled
together and asked God
for two beautiful children.
He obliged. The End.
You two, small and lovely,
and a third on the way.
[Laughs]
Did father really slay the beast?
Well, I suppose you better ask him.
Father! Father!
[Laughter] Though I hear he keeps
its head under his pillow ever still!
Is it true you slayed the beast father?
I knew you were a hero!
[Candle flickering]
[Blows candle out]
[Sad music plays]
My king.
We buried you here next to your fathers.
When we took the city back.
I'm now older than you were when you died.
I don't know what I'm
doing anymore, my king.
I don't know who I am...
How I came to rule.
Some days...
Pass by like dreams.
I feel like I'm fading.
My queen.
She...
I shouldn't be here... I shouldn't.
She wouldn't want me here.
Ever since I won the war...
Took back the city... The throne.
Avenged you.
She has been there, aside me...
A foreign beauty who
took the people's heart.
I don't know where she came from...
Even now...
I don't really know who she is.
I remember the woods...
Trees...
Mountains...
Nothing more.
So I come here as she sleeps.
But I still feel her grip...
On my mind, her voice in my ear.
Kill a priest...
Burn a keep...
Inspire war.
The kingdom across the Black
Sea, she wishes to wage war.
Expand our borders.
Peace has been had for decades.
What am I to do?
You're gone.
As is everyone.
I know that, but why
am I the one left to live?
I ran from that battlefield.
I ran from our kingdom.
From you.
I never deserved this.
I should be dead.
I should be dead.
Unless...
Unless...
So should she.
No, no, I can't do it. I can't.
I have to.
For you.
For the kingdom.
But...
How?
Both of you leave and send him in.
[Door creaks open]
[Door creaks open]
Are you ready to do what we talked about?
To inform the people?
You know what is necessary, my King.
My King wouldn't want to
disappoint me now, would he?
This country has seen peace
for the first time in centuries...
Because of me.
[Laughs] Because of you?
Why would we start war with a
neighbouring non-threatening kingdom?
Because your Queen demands it!
I am the King!
You will declare war on that
sweet nation across the pond.
We will go to war with
them, and we will win.
Then next year we will
war with another realm...
And the year after until
we swallow this land whole.
We will conquer and kill until
you are dirt in the ground...
When our daughter will take your place.
You will heed my call...
or I will take from you
until there is nothing left.
[Tense music rises]
[Door opens] My liege?
The crowds are amassing;
They're ready for you.
And so my King...
Are you ready to inform the people?
[Door opens and shuts]
I once was a knight.
Shrouded in fear.
Now a king...
Clad in Legend.
When I'm lost beneath stone...
and my name long forgotten...
Will they mark these whispers true?
[Royal audience cheers]
[War horn blows]
[Audience cheers]
[All sounds fade]
[The sounds of coming war arrive]
Cry your last and cry it like it's fire.
The blood, the ground, the rocks.
His chest is torn and broken as the dawn.
This fight will be the last.
They fall, they burn,
they all take their turn.
Each man his bones are cold.

His flesh turned cold...
Fur tangled with the mould.
Who was he fighting for?
With triumph and might,
if you listen in the night...
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?

here, he might best have a reason.
Your king is dead and so is his kingdom.
The wind tells me another sits on your
throne, wears your
crown, hoards your riches.
You are a third in line, born to a younger
son, with all your
fathers and brothers dead.
You are the rightful king now.
Pity your crown's been taken.
You speak of the wind.
What are you? A sorceress?
What do you know of my kingdom?
What do you know of my king?
What do you know of swords?
These are my woods, sweet hallowed night.
And you can call me the Lady
of Bones, if it so please you.
Look into my eyes and
tell me you do not thirst.
I can quench your desires,
your deepest desires.
A knight best have a reason for
stumbling into the witch's wood eh?
There is a monster in these woods boy.
A monster up the mountain.
A monster made of darkness.
He is my only foe, my only fear.
A witch has no sword, only spells.
But a handsome knight like
you could slay him, could he not?
Your redemption lies beyond the river.
Pass along the Nyrn Wall
and go beyond the Old Bridge.
Stain the stone cross with
your blood and slay my monster.
Then, and only then, shall I
give you back your kingdom.
Go forth and redeem your fading honour.
Stain my dagger in the
monster's blood and soak
it in moonlight when
your journey is complete.
Only then will you have your crown.
Do you pledge yourself?
I'll need more than a nod.
Seal our agreement with a kiss.
This lonely witch has no
one but rabbits and robins.
Welcome knight to my woods.
[Rocks shifting]
[Epic music builds]
Forgive me, my King.
Are you going to leave my
nephew there lying in the mud?
I asked him to practice with me...
He's said to be a great - I know who he
is. I know the face of
every man in my army.
Even the sell swords.
Sellswords outnumber
my loyal forces now I'm told.
Leave us.
With Roderick...
And Beynan dead.
And my brothers captured or slain.
As I'm sure you know by now boy.
If I am to fall on the
battlefield come over morrow.
This crown is yours by right.
How it came to this...
I'll never know.
What is it?
I didn't spend enough
time with you, did I boy?
Your father and I...
Walk with me.
Me and your father used
to play in these woods.
What will they be tomorrow?
The home of barbarians...
Savages?
[Footsteps in mud]
[Thoughtful music continues]
[Tense music plays]
[Bites apple]
[Dreaded music builds]
[Whispering]
I would like to cross the bridge.
Sir?
Can you hear me?
Take it please. There's plenty on the path.
They won't answer you.
What are they?
Beggars, claimed by time and hunger.
Too weak to cross the bridge.
And who are you?
I'm Sir Aelfric Oswine,
Knight of the Old Bridge.
Leal guardsman to King Godric II.
King Godric... King Godric...
King Godric II of House Woelfred?
Of course, he's the protector
of the land you walk on.
You should yield to his name.
King Godric has been dead for 400 years!
Sir Aelfric?
Sir Aelfric?
Sir Aelfric?
I need to cross this bridge.
Just as it's your duty to protect it.
It's mine to cross it.
Are you prepared to die?
I am.
Are you ready?
Very well.
[Sword slices neck]
[Apple falls]
[Sword strikes water]
[Adventurous music builds]
[Heavy wind]
[Footsteps]
Pass along the Nyrn Wall.
Go beyond the Old Bridge.
And stain my blood on the stone cross.
[Unsheathes the Witch Blade]
Many men have came through here lad.
None of 'em come back.
Do you know the way to the mountain?
Go North until you can go North no further.
There's a cave atop your mountain.
Whatever you seek, lies in that cave.
Whether you return, I can't say.
[Slices hand]
[Drunkard starts singing]
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Farewell sweet knight!
[Drunkard continues his song]
Do you hear the lion's roar?
[Guitar rendition begins]
Cry your last and cry it like it's fire.
The blood, the ground, the rocks.
His chest is torn and broken as the dawn.
This fight will be the last.
They fall, they burn,
they all take their turn.
Each man his bones is cold.
And when you hear your dying leave...
Do you hear the lion's roar?
A man alone, only answers to himself.
Though God sees all he's done.
Who have found you here?
Who hath known such a fear?
Are you the only one?
Where once was hope now burns alone.
You fled out of that war.
The bode you live. The lives they give.
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Secrets untold, possess
these hallowed bones.
Do you know what's in these woods?
Troubles inhaled. Become a witches whale.
She'll have your soul for good.
The devil inside, he knows where you hide.
He's walked this Earth before.
But you young knight...
Your fate they decide.
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear him it at all?
His voice is hoarse and worn.
He once stood tall, long
before the kingdom's fall.
These grounds have sunk like bones.
There is a monster in these woods boy.
A monster up the mountain.
[Sword unsheathes] A
monster made of darkness.
He is my only foe, my only fear.
Slay my monster.
Then, and only then, shall I
give you back your kingdom.
Do you pledge yourself?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear the lion's roar?
[Fire torch lights]
[Tense music plays]
Too long have you
known the safety of the city.
Beyond these walls there
are things you can't imagine.
Demons and black magic!
Since when do you believe in fairy tales?
[Scuttling footsteps]
[Music builds in intensity]
[Draugr growling]
[Draugr war cry]
Walk with me.
Me and your father used
to play in these woods...
What will they be tomorrow?
The home of barbarians?
Savages?
We'll crush them.
Make hell their home.
Your father said the same.
And where is he now?
He was a good Knight, through and through.
Raised that way, as I in
turn was raised a King.
You weren't raised to be a King...
But if I fall, you might be one.
What kind of King will you be, I wonder?
The kind of King who
rules by the sword or...
With wisdom.
Who lives...
Or dies?
[Running and heavy breathing]
What is it, boy? Tell me quick.
My king, my king...
The enemy have been
sighted a day's ride from here!
They've taken our battlements
and the roads have fallen.
There's little more we can do.
A painless death, much
more gentle than steel.
Yet my boy, do not let the
flower be your first resort.
Take the sword by your side...
And fight my boy!
Fight with all you have, with
the lion's fury and the lion's heart!
Fight! Fight! Fight!
[Fire Torch hits the floor]
[Swords clang]
[Heavy grunt]
[Knight crashes to floor]
[Sword hits shield] Do you know
how I've survived so many battles?
I don't want you to throw your life away.
Stain my dagger in the monster's blood!
[Fleshy stab]
Come forth, if you so dare!
[Blade releases from flesh]
[Sword picked up]
[Battle sounds]
[Deathly rasps]
Do you wanna...
Do you wanna know the secret?
To how I survived...
All these years.
I ran.
[Battle sounds intensify]
There once was a Knight.
This Knight was said to be
the bravest in all the kingdom.
But he had a secret.
This Knight of the king carried fear.
A fear of death.
One fateful autumn, when the
leaves were falling from the oaks.
The kingdom fell too.
And like a falling leaf
escaping its withering tree.
Our Knight fled into the woods.
There the Knight rotted and wasted.
Consumed by deserters guilt
But amongst those trees instead of death.
Yet he found a princess, one chained
away by the might of a deadly monster.
Looking to reclaim his honour, the Knight
challenged the monster to a fateful duel.
Did he win mother?
- Yes mother did he win?
- Shh. Wait and see...
Foul and made of
darkness, the beast agreed.
Blood was spilt by both man and myth.
In the end, it was the Knight
who emerged victorious.
The princess his reward.
With his new found honour,
the Knight returned home to
take back his kingdom from
the usurper in a great war.
Against all odds, it wasn't long
before the Knight was a King.
And his princess a queen.
When peace was had throughout
the kingdom, they settled
together and asked God
for two beautiful children.
He obliged. The End.
You two, small and lovely,
and a third on the way.
[Laughs]
Did father really slay the beast?
Well, I suppose you better ask him.
Father! Father!
[Laughter] Though I hear he keeps
its head under his pillow ever still!
Is it true you slayed the beast father?
I knew you were a hero!
[Candle flickering]
[Blows candle out]
[Sad music plays]
My king.
We buried you here next to your fathers.
When we took the city back.
I'm now older than you were when you died.
I don't know what I'm
doing anymore, my king.
I don't know who I am...
How I came to rule.
Some days...
Pass by like dreams.
I feel like I'm fading.
My queen.
She...
I shouldn't be here... I shouldn't.
She wouldn't want me here.
Ever since I won the war...
Took back the city... The throne.
Avenged you.
She has been there, aside me...
A foreign beauty who
took the people's heart.
I don't know where she came from...
Even now...
I don't really know who she is.
I remember the woods...
Trees...
Mountains...
Nothing more.
So I come here as she sleeps.
But I still feel her grip...
On my mind, her voice in my ear.
Kill a priest...
Burn a keep...
Inspire war.
The kingdom across the Black
Sea, she wishes to wage war.
Expand our borders.
Peace has been had for decades.
What am I to do?
You're gone.
As is everyone.
I know that, but why
am I the one left to live?
I ran from that battlefield.
I ran from our kingdom.
From you.
I never deserved this.
I should be dead.
I should be dead.
Unless...
Unless...
So should she.
No, no, I can't do it. I can't.
I have to.
For you.
For the kingdom.
But...
How?
Both of you leave and send him in.
[Door creaks open]
[Door creaks open]
Are you ready to do what we talked about?
To inform the people?
You know what is necessary, my King.
My King wouldn't want to
disappoint me now, would he?
This country has seen peace
for the first time in centuries...
Because of me.
[Laughs] Because of you?
Why would we start war with a
neighbouring non-threatening kingdom?
Because your Queen demands it!
I am the King!
You will declare war on that
sweet nation across the pond.
We will go to war with
them, and we will win.
Then next year we will
war with another realm...
And the year after until
we swallow this land whole.
We will conquer and kill until
you are dirt in the ground...
When our daughter will take your place.
You will heed my call...
or I will take from you
until there is nothing left.
[Tense music rises]
[Door opens] My liege?
The crowds are amassing;
They're ready for you.
And so my King...
Are you ready to inform the people?
[Door opens and shuts]
I once was a knight.
Shrouded in fear.
Now a king...
Clad in Legend.
When I'm lost beneath stone...
and my name long forgotten...
Will they mark these whispers true?
[Royal audience cheers]
[War horn blows]
[Audience cheers]
[All sounds fade]
[The sounds of coming war arrive]
Cry your last and cry it like it's fire.
The blood, the ground, the rocks.
His chest is torn and broken as the dawn.
This fight will be the last.
They fall, they burn,
they all take their turn.
Each man his bones are cold.
And when you hear the dying leave...
Do you hear the lion's roar?
A man alone, only answers to himself.
Though God sees all he's done.

Do you hear the lion's roar?
Do you hear him it at all?
His voice is hoarse and worn.
He once stood tall, long
before the kingdom's fall.
These grounds have sunk like bones.
