The Magic Penguin (2024) Movie Script

1
(film reel clicking)
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music resumes)
- Welcome to Vonrovia, the
world's smallest kingdom,
and the only one where
you'll find a magic penguin.
His name is Roi,
and he comes from a long
line of royal penguins
dating back more than 400 years
to the starting of our country.
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music continues)
(mysterious music)
(air whooshing)
(gentle music continues)
(gentle music continues)
(singer vocalizing)
(dramatic music)
(peaceful music)
(camera clicking)
(Pascale laughs)
- Enough.
- No one knows how the
first royal penguin arrived,
but legend has it
that a young man
offered the penguin
shelter for the night
and a plate of dried
herring to eat.
In return, as the sun
rose the next morning,
the penguin produced a
beautiful magical pearl.
and presented it to the young
man, whose name was Leo.
Leo was proclaimed
king by his neighbors.
And from then on,
the Penguin Pearl has become
a symbol for our monarchy.
- Look, look, look, look.
- Be quiet, Pascale.
- We're coming up to the ruins
where the first Penguin
Pearl was created.
(gentle music continues)
- Look at the ruins.
- Would you be quiet.
- But the ruins.
(phone ringing)
- Hello.
Yes.
- What did she said?
- She said be quiet.
- Really?
- Yes.
Do you want me to call her?
- No, no, no, no.
- You can ask her.
- No, no, no, no.
- And here we are
at the Royal Palace,
where the present
King Leo VIII resides.
- [Pascale] The Royal Palace!
- Shh, be quiet.
- You think the King is inside?
- Of course, the King is inside.
- Are you sure?
- Yeah, you know why?
- No.
- It's his house.
He lives here.
- Oh, really?
- Yes.
- Oh, wow. (laughs)
You are so intelligent.
(majestic music)
(stately music continues)
- I want more flags
there, there, and there.
- More flag there,
there, and there.
- And, the music I
would like to hear now.
- Can we have the
music now, please?
(happy music)
(equipment rattling)
- Of course, I want to do my
duty, your Majesty, but I-
- Please Duncan, I'm
not ordering you.
I'm asking you as a friend.
- Well, if you'll
excuse me, sire,
I'm more of a
behind-the-scenes guy.
- I need my penguin knights.
- Well, I suppose
the 400th anniversary
of the kingdom's
founding only comes once.
- And that's only if you
subscribe to the theory
that time is an arrow that
only goes in one direction.
- Unless you take into account
the theory of eternal inflation.
- Yes, exactly.
(Garibaldi coughs)
- Don't worry.
It will be painless. I promise.
We'll all gather here.
Garibaldi will
say a few words.
He'll introduce me.
He'll introduce Roi.
And you will bring out
the pearl and hand it to me.
And voila, it's done.
People clap. We
open the champagne.
We enjoy ourselves.
You do remember
how to enjoy yourself?
(Duncan exhales)
- Yeah, if you'll excuse
me then, I have some,
I have some
preparations to make.
(gentle music continues)
- He does not look very happy.
- No.
He hasn't been happy
since Alice.
Ow.
(item squeaks)
- Oh, oh, sorry, Your Majesty.
- Well, if you excuse
me, Your Majesty,
there is a matter
I would attend to.
(gentle music continues)
- I've been
practicing my speech.
Would you like to hear it?
- I like being surprised.
- I have coined a new motto.
(King Leo speaking Latin)
It means-
- Penguins can't fly,
but they can soar.
It sounds great in Latin.
- Yeah, yeah.
It works, it works.
(gentle music continues)
- We'll be ending our
tour at the Penguinarium,
where you might
even catch a glimpse
of the royal penguin himself.
- Shh, shh.
(light orchestral music)
But if not, come
say hello to me.
That's where I work.
And I'm always happy
to meet with visitors.
- Penguinarium, Penguinarium,
Penguinarium, Penguinarium,
Penguinarium-
- Be quiet.
Sit down.
- Penguinarium.
(cart whirring)
(engine humming)
(comical music)
(birds chirping)
- Hey, let's go.
(dramatic music)
(birds chirping)
- Good morning.
(water sloshing)
Look what I have for you
today. More fish. (laughs)
Where is my favorite
royal penguin?
There's lots of fish.
(tray clattering)
Roi?
Where are you? Roi?
(doll rasping)
(pensive music)
(gentle music)
(water splashing)
(hands thudding)
(playfully suspenseful music)
(feet pattering)
Aha, found you.
(feet pattering)
There you are.
(majestic music)
- Good morning, Rose.
(suspenseful music)
(jackets rustling)
(plodding music)
(jackets continue rustling)
(tense music)
- [Penguin Captain]
Pardon. Who are you?
- I'm Pascale. He is Tiago.
- We're the new cleaners.
- Uh-huh.
- Ah, okay, carry on.
(Pascale laughs)
- Why did you tell
him our names?
- But he ask who we were.
Ah.
(Pascale laughing)
(hands smacking and rasping)
(Micah grunting)
(pensive music)
- [man on TV] Good guys
cheer me. Sad guys fear me.
(wall rumbling)
I am the Penguin Knight.
(sailor grunting)
- Ah, help me, help me.
Please, save me.
Bad guys fear me.
Good guys cheer me.
I am the Penguin Knight.
Let me save you.
(Micah and Penguin
Knight grunting)
(button clicks)
(character yelling on TV)
- [character on TV]
Whoo-hoo-hoo.
(Penguin Knight grunting)
(Micah exhaling)
- You're free, but we've
gotta get out of here.
- Micah.
- Go.
- Oh, blimey, everything
alright in here?
- Yeah.
Where were you this morning?
(sighs) With him?
- I had an early
meeting with King Leo.
- About him?
- About the ceremony tomorrow.
Look, King Leo insists I take
part
to present the pearl.
- Can I come, too?
- Micah, it's just gonna
be a bunch of grownups.
Boring grownups.
- But he's gonna
be there, right?
- [Penguin Knight on TV] Quick
now, the sun is rising.
Magic is happening today.
- (laughs) You must know
this old movie by heart.
- It's my favorite.
I am the Penguin Knight.
- (laughs) Oh.
And what will the
Penguin Knight do today?
- Have an adventure.
Wanna have an adventure with me?
- Oh, speaking of adventure,
I need to get going
as soon as I change my clothes.
(Micah sighs)
Well.
(footsteps plodding)
(majestic music)
- What makes you so special?
Why does dad love
him more than me?
You're just a dumb penguin.
(doll thudding)
I wish you'd just run away.
What if you run away?
What if you weren't
there for that stupid,
boring Founder's Day thing?
(gentle music)
- Sure, Son, come to
the celebration with me.
(head thudding)
(energetic music)
(bag rustling)
(drawers rasping and clattering)
(band snapping)
(item squeaking)
(bag rustling)
(energetic music continues)
- I am the Penguin Knight.
(thoughtful music)
- Hmm, think of it, Garibaldi.
After tomorrow,
Vonrovia will be mine.
- Oh, I love it when
a plan comes together.
- They will be shouting,
"Hortense, Hortense."
- I can hear them. Horse
sense. Horse sense.
A very sensible suggestion.
- What the? Not horse
sense, Hortense.
When that flying rodent-
- Penguins can't
actually fly, you know.
- When that flightless excuse
for a bird produces
the second pearl.
- But there can be only one.
- Do not say it.
- But he's already
produced one pearl.
If he tries to create
another, it will kill him.
- We don't really
know that, do we?
It's just speculation.
- But it's never been done.
- Before.
It's never been done
before. (grunts)
That's just it.
The kingdom is stuck in the past
doing things the way
they've always been done.
It's time for a new
leadership, new ideas.
- But if he tries to produce
another pearl, he could die.
- Oh!
If he dies, he dies.
(chancellor laughing)
As long as we have the pearl.
- Couldn't you just fake it,
maybe paint a tennis ball?
- That is a
ludicrous suggestion.
- But everyone
loves the penguin.
- The penguin will deliver.
- How can you be so sure?
And besides, there's
not much time.
The ceremony will begin
at 8:00 AM tomorrow.
- Ah.
I have a contingency plan.
(Hortense laughs)
(cart clattering)
(birds chirping)
(feet pattering)
- This is not the
contingency I planned on.
- She' is pretty, (laughs)
for the contingency.
(birds chirping)
Is the boy a contingency?
- He's a complication.
(birds continue chirping)
- Tiago.
- What?
- There are three of them.
- And?
- There are only two of us.
- But they don't
know we're coming.
- Ah, you are right. (laughs)
(feet shuffling)
(birds chirping)
- Ceremony shouldn't
be too boring.
Nobody's gonna think
you look funny.
They're gonna love
you just like I do.
- Oh, I love you too, Rose.
- I know you do.
(Roi squawks)
Oh.
(birds chirping)
Anyway, after the ceremony,
we'll come straight back here,
and I'll make you your favorite.
- Pancakes with hearing sauce?
Mm. (grumbling)
(Roi squawking)
(hand thudding)
- I know you're worried
about the ceremony tomorrow,
but why waste such
a beautiful day?
(Roi vocalizing)
(ominous music)
Think fast.
(Roi exclaims)
(ball thudding)
Roi, if you ever get tired
of being the royal penguin,
you could go pro.
(Roi vocalizing)
Right, time for your
first snack, hmm?
Okay, you just wait right here.
- I'll be here.
(Micah gasping)
- He can talk.
(Roi squawking)
You can talk!
(Roi vocalizing)
I heard you talking to her.
- Don't tell anyone.
It's a secret.
I'm only supposed
to talk to the King.
- Awesome.
Does my dad know?
- Who's your dad?
- He's a penguin knight.
- Huh? Is there a penguin day?
- (sighs) Not that
type of night.
- I'm just messing
with you. (laughs)
- You know, if you
don't want to go
to that ceremony tomorrow,
you don't have to.
- Well, but Rose said that-
- If Rose told you to jump
off a bridge, would you do it?
- Why would she tell me
to jump off a bridge?
She knows I can't fly.
I'd just go splat.
She said I was the most
important part of the ceremony.
- She was lying
when she said that.
They'll just laugh
and laugh at you
because you're so small.
- You better leave
before Rose gets back.
- No, you need to leave.
- Well, I'll tell her
you're being mean to me,
and she'll tell your dad.
- She's gonna tell
him that you can talk?
- It's a state
secret. He knows it.
- The royal penguins
have always talked.
They're just not supposed to
talk to anyone but the King.
- But he talked to you.
- I'm an exception.
- And he's talked to me.
- I guess you're
an exception, too,
which must mean
you're exceptional.
- He's not exceptional.
He's mean.
- Micah looks like he
could use a friend.
Do you wanna ask him if
you'll come play with us?
- Uh-uh, no.
- I am disappointed in you, Roi.
- He said you're a liar.
- You did?
Well, that's not very nice.
How about we'll all
go back to the igloo,
and we'll teach you how to
play splish-splash, okay?
- I'm sorry I was mean to you.
- You're just having a bad day.
- Come on, you
lot. Let's go back.
(birds chirping)
(Roi vocalizing)
(tense music)
(Roi squawking)
(Pascale laughing)
(wings thudding)
(Pascale groaning)
(wings smacking)
(lips fluttering)
(Pascale gasping)
(air whooshing)
(Pascale laughing)
(wings thudding)
(Pascale groaning)
Isn't it, Roi? Roi?
(lips fluttering)
(dramatic music)
What are you doing?
- Roi, Roi.
(Rose whimpering)
(Micah grunting)
Let him go.
- [Rose] Let me
go. Roi.
(tape rasping)
Let go!
(dramatic music continues)
- Where is the penguin?
- We'll worry about him later.
(Roi vocalizing)
(energetic music)
- [Micah] Go Roi go!
(Roi hollering)
Roi.
- Oh.
(Roi vocalizing)
(Roi screaming)
(Roi vocalizing)
(energetic music continues)
(golf cart crashing)
(Roi grunting)
(barrel thudding)
(Roi grunting and whimpering)
(birds chirping)
(birds chirping)
- Good morning, Roi.
(Duncan sighs)
Is the penguin keeper late?
(birds chirping)
Rose?
Roi.
Look, I don't have time
to play hide-and-seek
this morning, Roi.
(Duncan sighs)
Yes, I know I haven't come
to see you for a while,
but I watch you all the time.
Roi.
- Uh, can we get a
window open back here?
- No.
- Ugh, I just, I
get really car sick.
- If she throws up in the back-
- Just drive.
This way.
- Are you sure?
- Of course, I'm
sure. Clumsy oaf.
- You didn't have
to be mean to me.
- I'm the boss.
I can be as mean
as I want to be.
- You are not my boss.
- Of course, I'm your boss.
I hired you.
- Only because I didn't
hire you first. (grunts)
But why are you in charge?
- Someone always
has to be in charge.
I'll let you be in
charge next time.
- Okay.
- Guys, I'm gonna be sick.
(pensive music)
(door rasping)
(kick thuds)
(Tiago groaning)
(Micah grunting)
(suspenseful music)
(Rose grunting)
(Roi vocalizing)
(suspenseful music continues)
(Rose and Tiago grunting)
- [Tiago] Get in there.
Get in.
(Micah and Tiago grunting)
(suspenseful music continues)
You think you're so clever.
- It's not that I'm clever.
It's just that
you're really dumb.
(door clattering)
- I hope she's better.
- She was just
pretending to be sick.
Let's go.
- Okay.
- Be quiet.
(engine humming)
(barrel thuds)
(Roi grunting)
(water sloshing)
(pensive music)
(barrel thuds)
(Roi grunting)
(quizzical music)
(barrel thuds)
(Roi vocalizing)
(footsteps plodding)
(pensive music)
(door squeaking)
- Micah?
(phone ringing)
Hello.
- [Garibaldi] Ah, Duncan,
I'm glad I caught you.
How are the preparations going?
- F- fine.
- Well, the reason I'm asking is
because I stopped
by the Penguinarium,
and I couldn't find Roi.
Can you tell me where
the royal penguin is?
- He's meditating.
- Meditating?
- (laughs) I highly
recommend it.
It lowers the blood
pressure, increases clarity,
and we could all
use more clarity.
- Clarity, of course, yes, yes.
- He's meditating.
He's in seclusion, meditating,
contemplating what an
awesome responsibility he has
to uphold the traditions
of the kingdom,
to be part of an unbroken line
which leads back to
the first of his kind,
uh, brought here by
the esteemed Leo I,
and to be part of
the ceremony tomorrow
to, to, to offer the pearl,
which is the symbol
of the monarchy.
Yes, he's very proud.
- Mm, he's covering
something up.
- So I will thank you, sir,
to leave him to his
naval-gazing in peace.
- Penguins don't have navels.
They are hatched from eggs.
(Duncan laughing)
- Of course, they are.
Well, perhaps you
should use the time
before the ceremony to
contemplate your own navel.
(pensive music continues)
(finger taps)
(Duncan laughing)
- Well, I'd say your plan
is working perfectly.
He clearly has no idea
where the penguin is.
- The problem is I don't know
where the penguin is either.
- You still couldn't
get a call through?
- No.
They were supposed to
take him to the stables.
- Well, that's where
they probably are.
- I need that pearl.
- Couldn't you just
take Leo's pearl?
(Hortense sighs)
- If only it were
that easy. (scoffs)
Once it's bonded to a ruler,
it will disintegrate if
anyone else tries to take it.
(pensive music continues)
(suspenseful music)
(latch clattering)
(window rasping)
(plastic rustling)
(majestic music)
(Roi vocalizing)
- Ugh, Pickled Penguin.
(Roi vocalizing)
(pensive music)
(Roi vocalizing)
[Roi] I don't understand .
(laughs)
(doors clattering)
(feet shuffling)
- [Pascale] Come on, come on .
(door clattering)
- What?
(doors slamming)
How is this possible?
How did you not know
the penguin was gone?
- I don't know. I was driving.
- Who are you? What
is it you want?
- I can't answer.
Tiago told me I
could enter. (grunts)
- I've never been here before.
How did you discover this place?
Are you a tour guide? Do
you work at the palace?
- Are you trying to trick
me? It's not very nice.
- Well, you took us.
That's really not nice.
- (laughs) It's good to
have you, too, (laughs)
but she's most interested
at the penguin. (laughs)
- Who's she?
- Oh, she-
- Be quiet, Pascale.
- Why do you want the penguin?
Are you trying to sell
him to a zoo somewhere?
- Oh, no, I love penguins.
- Help, help, someone.
I'm being kidnapped.
- Scream all you want.
Nobody can hear you.
- Okay, guys, just be quiet,
and everything will
be fine, okay, huh?
(brooding music continues)
- Just let me leave
here with Micah,
and I'll tell the
authorities to believe you.
- [Pascale] I like a woman with
a sense of humor.
(footsteps plodding)
- But don't worry,
you two will be taken
care of soon enough.
- And what's the plan,
hmm? Ransom, blackmail?
Extortion, world domination?
- Vonrovia is kind of small
to dominate the world.
- Be quiet.
(Pascale exhaling)
- Sorry, he's says that a lot.
(dark music)
(Hortense growls)
(feet pattering)
(Roi grunting)
(pensive music)
- Okay, thank you, well,
just, ask around.
Bye-bye.
(hand knocking)
(Duncan sighs)
(brooding music)
(footsteps plodding)
Where have you been?
(doors squeaking)
- Oh, oh, yeah.
(quizzical music)
Nice home, this, oh.
Oh, yes, oh, yeah.
(Duncan sighs)
(quizzical music continues)
(Roi grunting)
(quizzical music continues)
Uh, boo!
(Duncan exhales)
(Roi laughing)
- Roi, where have you been?
- Uh, we need to talk.
(chair creaking)
- I always wondered
what you sounded like.
Where's Micah?
(birds chirping)
- [Roi] It's like I told you,
and then the big guy took
Micah and Rose, and they
told me to come get you
and have the... ( sighs)
- But how, how did Micah-
- That's not
important right now.
We have to go.
Micah said to hurry.
- Take me to my son.
(dramatic music)
(King Leo grunting)
(King Leo exhaling)
- Where is Duncan?
- I don't know.
(gentle music)
- Is everything okay?
- I believe so.
- How is Roi?
- Let me find out.
(ominous music)
The penguin knight
is not answering.
- Hold on a sec. That's
the vet carrier, uh.
- Well, I can't carry you, Roi.
- Oh, well.
- We'd attract too much
unwanted attention.
- No, oh.
- All right, we'll
meet you there.
- Did you talk to her?
- She's on her way.
She wants us to meet
her at the wine cellar.
(birds chirping)
(footsteps plodding)
I just don't think 50 grand's
gonna be enough for this job.
(comicall music)
- 50 grand?
- Yeah, I just don't know.
- 50 grand?
- Why? How much are
you getting paid?
- 20.
(Tiago laughing)
It's not funny.
- You got robbed, my friend.
(Tiago laughing)
(hand thudding)
- Mm.
(gentle music)
(birds chirping)
- Uh, they took us there.
- How come you never talk to me?
- Well, I'm only supposed
to talk to the King.
- Well, you talk to
the penguin keeper.
- Her name is Rose.
You'd like her.
Micah does.
- You talked to Micah, too?
- Well, that was an accident.
Oh.
(birds chirping)
- Maybe the Penguin
Captain's seen something.
(Roi grunts)
(Roi vocalizing)
(footsteps plodding)
Good afternoon, Captain.
I was wondering
if you had noticed
anything unusual
happening today.
- Two new cleaners,
Tiago and Pascale.
- Thank you, Captain.
(footsteps plodding)
(birds chirping)
Diana, it's Duncan.
Are you still working
on that census
project for King Leo?
You are?
Good, good, good, good, good.
Uh, I, I was wondering
if you could tell me,
how many men in Vonrovia
are named Tiago and Pascale?
(birds continue chirping)
Really? (clears throat)
That many?
Not including the
ones named Santiago.
Okay, thank you, Diana.
Uh, I owe you lunch at
the Pickled Penguin.
(birds continue chirping)
- Bad news.
- They're the third and
fourth most popular names
in the country, right
behind Leo and Robert.
- Ah, those are nice names.
(Roi vocalizing)
- Let's see if they left
any clues in the road.
(Roi vocalizing)
(birds chirping)
- Go check outside.
(feet shuffling)
- Do you always let
him order you around?
- He is in charge this time.
(footsteps plodding)
- You better hope we find
that penguin before tomorrow.
- The celebration of the
founding of the kingdom.
- They need the
penguin for that.
- So did someone want the
penguin out of the way?
(birds chirping)
(feet shuffling)
(birds chirping)
(item thudding)
(Pascale chattering
indistinctly)
(flashlight thudding)
(footsteps plodding)
- No sign on anyone.
This is yours.
(bag rustling)
Nothing interested inside.
(zipper whizzing)
The van is clear.
(hand thudding)
- Are we keeping you
from an appointment?
Because-
- Be quiet.
- Don't tell her to be quiet.
- You too, kid.
- I'm not a kid.
- From where I'm standing,
you're definitely a kid.
- You will grow out of it.
I was a shrimp, too. (laughs)
(Micah sighs)
(back rasping)
(bag rustling)
(Pascale murmuring)
- You're nervous.
Whoever hired you doesn't
know you lost Roi.
- Don't just stand there
looming. Go get us some food.
- Are we ordering out?
Because (laughs) I just
love the fried zucchini
at the Pickled Penguin.
Ooh, or the squash blossom
soup from the Tempest's menu.
- I would like a hot dog.
- I'm a vegetarian.
- [Tiago] Make
that two hot dogs.
(footsteps plodding)
(dark music)
(hopeful music)
(tense music)
(tense music continues)
(Roi vocalizing)
- Here's where I escaped.
(Roi grunting)
(tense music continues)
Look, that's my
snack. Rose had it.
(Roi vocalizing)
(tense music continues)
Should we tell the King?
- Maybe later.
Right now we have to find Micah.
(Roi vocalizing)
And Rose.
- You're sad.
- Micah must be so scared.
- But you're the
Penguin Knight, right?
- Good guys cheer me.
Bad guys fear me.
I am the Penguin Knight.
Get down.
(tense music)
(Roi grunting)
- [Roi] What are you
doing? Don't tell me.
(Roi grunting)
(tense music continues)
I'm short on snacks.
(Roi grunting)
(device beeping)
(pensive music)
(Micah sighs)
- Don't worry. My
dad will rescue us.
- I don't doubt it.
What were you doing
in the Penguinarium?
(Micah sighing)
- I was gonna kidnap
Roi before they did.
I was gonna tell
everyone he ran away.
- [Rose] Why?
- So my dad would
pay attention to me.
I didn't mean for
everything to happen.
(exhales) We've got
to get out of here.
- You're gonna be
here for a while.
- [Micah] I wish my mother was
here.
(bag rustling)
(Micah sighs)
I wish my mother was here.
- Your mum was the best
penguin keeper ever.
We all still talk about Mrs.
Jones, the penguin whisperer.
(Rose laughs)
- Do you know what really
happened to my mum?
- She, she passed
away in Antarctica.
She was working
there to find a mate
for the last royal penguin.
I'm so sorry, Micah.
- [Tiago] Stop talking .
- It is only a matter of time
before someone will rescue us.
(Tiago laughing)
- Keep wishing.
- [Rose] Ugh.
(gentle music)
(birds chirping)
(band creaking)
- Food this here.
(hands thudding)
(plastic rustling)
- Pretend to sleep.
- Right.
- Pizza.
(box thudding)
(Pascale laughing)
- You want me to
eat it from there?
- Mm, mm.
(box clattering)
Okay, stay back.
(door clanging)
(dramatic music)
(Pascale groaning)
(Rose grunting)
(Pascale groaning)
- [Rose] Run, Micah, run.
(Pascale groaning)
(sandwich crunching)
(footsteps plodding)
(tense music continues)
(Rose whimpering)
- [Tiago] Hold her.
Where has he gone?
- Keep going, Micah, keep going.
(footsteps plodding)
(tense music continues)
- [Tiago] Micah.
(hopeful music)
Micah.
- Bad guys fear me.
Good guys cheer me.
I am the Penguin Knight.
- Got you.
(dark music)
(pensive music)
(suspenseful music)
(birds chirping)
(Micah grunting)
(suspenseful music continues)
- [Rose] It'll be okay .
(both grunting)
(pensive music)
(birds chirping)
(Roi grunting)
- You ready for this?
- [Roi] Sure I am.
- Let's go.
- Okay.
- [Roi] I would be
for another bite.
(birds chirping)
(suspenseful music continues)
- She's coming.
(footsteps plodding)
(doors creaking and clattering)
(ominous music)
(chairs clattering)
(door clattering)
(Hortense exhales)
- Who are these?
- It's the penguin keeper
and the penguin knight's son.
- Oh, huh.
Where is the bird?
(tense music)
- I, um.
(phone ringing)
- You're useless.
- Tiago, Tiago.
- What?
- What happened?
- [Tiago] I don't know.
(tense music)
(gravel crunching)
- The penguin is
with the knight.
- I have a plan.
- Oh, (laughs) do you?
- You want the bird.
- Mm.
- And the penguin
knight wants his son.
(ominous music)
- Oh, (laughs) you have
just earned your 50 grand.
- About that.
- Make it happen.
(birds chirping)
- Micah.
(footsteps plodding)
(bag rustling)
(bag thudding)
- It's ringing.
(phone ringing)
Hello there, am I
speaking to Duncan Jones?
- Yes.
- [Micah] Dad, Dad.
- Micah.
- Yes.
That is your son you're hearing.
- If you hurt him, I'll
hunt you down, and I will-
- Really?
We don't have time
for idle threats.
It's a simple transaction.
You bring us the bird.
We bring you the boy.
- I'll meet you at
the palace gates.
- I tell you where.
(hand thudding)
- I understand.
- Uh, they wanna
trade Micah for me?
Uh, oh.
- That's not going to happen.
- Right.
- They want to make
the trade in the forest
or wherever they are.
- Oh.
- We just have to
get there first.
- And then what?
- And then we'll show them
why bad guys fear
penguin knights.
- So then you have a plan?
Uh, um.
(tense music)
(birds chirping)
(tense music continues)
(birds chirping)
(Old West fight music)
(church bell rings)
(leaves rustling)
(horse neighing)
(Old West music continues)
(men chanting
indistinctly)
(Pascale farts)
(birds chirping)
- I'm sorry.
It happens when I'm nervous.
(birds continue chirping)
- Where's the penguin?
- Roi, show yourself.
(birds chirping)
(tense music)
Where's my son,
and where's Rose?
(grass rustling)
Micah.
- Dad.
(Micah grunting)
(Micah grunting)
(Duncan laughing)
Dad, you're squishing me.
- Sorry, sorry.
(pensive music)
(pensive music continues)
- What?
- [Micah] Where's Roi?
- Go, Roi.
(Roi grunting)
(gate rasping and thudding)
- Go, Roi.
(Roi laughing)
(triumphant music)
(Pascale groaning)
- There's always another
exit in these dungeons.
Let's go.
- Mm, mm.
(pensive music)
- It's okay, sorry. (grunts)
It's okay.
Rose.
(hands thudding)
(feet shuffling)
(birds chirping)
- I think she's secretly
a penguin knight, too.
(Rose and Duncan laughing)
- Well, it's, um,
it's a state of mind.
Look, you've been very brave,
but I need you and Roi to
get to safety now, okay?
- Bad guys fear me.
Good guys cheer me.
(Duncan laughs)
- I have never been prouder
of you than I am right now.
Let's go.
(footsteps plodding)
- Ah, the exit.
Stairs.
- Stairs.
(footsteps plodding)
(birds chirping)
(leaves crunching)
(Roi vocalizing)
(footsteps plodding)
- Uh, Rose. (gasping)
- Stop in the name of the King.
- They're working for somebody.
- And whoever she is,
they're really scared of her.
- Her?
Well, we need to catch them
and find out who's behind this.
Head to the palace.
They won't dare
look for you there.
And look after Roi.
We'll see you at the ceremony.
(upbeat music)
Let's go.
- [Roi] Micah.
(grass rustling)
(upbeat music continues)
- [Tiago] Stop. I got you.
(Roi whimpering)
- [Roi] I'm right behind you,
Micah.
(grass rustling)
(upbeat music continues)
(ominous tones)
(birds chirping)
(footsteps plodding)
(birds chirping)
(grass rustling)
(dramatic music)
(Pascale groaning)
- [Pascale] I'm sorry.
(Duncan groans)
- You're not going anywhere.
- I don't know
anything about it.
(feet pattering)
(dramatic music continues)
- [Roi] Watch out, Micah.
- I have an idea.
Ah, my foot.
- [Roi] Help, somebody, help.
(Micah groaning)
Micah's hurt.
(Roi grunting)
Booyah! (laughs)
(Roi vocalizing)
Nope, not a good idea.
- Bad guys fear me.
Good guys cheer me.
- Isn't that a quote
from an old movie?
It is.
I love that movie.
- Yeah.
- Then how'd you end
up being a bad guy?
- I guess the standard
way, bad choices-
- Ooh.
- bad company.
- Well, if you walked away,
we, we wouldn't stop you.
- After what I did?
- What do you think?
- No, no, no.
Definitely no.
(gentle music)
(feet thudding)
- No hard feelings, right?
(hands smacking)
(dramatic music)
(Roi whimpering)
- Take them to the ruins.
If you want to do something
right, do it yourself.
(birds chirping)
(pensive music)
- [Dad] Any sign?
Sit down.
Call me as soon as
you put eyes on them.
No sign yet of Roi or Micah.
- It's good to finally
meet the penguin knight.
- Well, thank you for
taking care of my son.
- My pleasure.
- You've never seen
him when I'm trying
to get him up in the morning
to catch the school bus.
Sit down.
- Being a single
dad can't be easy,
but he really worships
you, you know.
- He is my whole world.
- You should tell him that.
- Uh, why does Roi
never talk to me?
- He doesn't think
he has anything
to say that you
would want to hear.
I mean, you never
played with him.
You never talked to him.
You just watched him from afar.
- Just like Micah.
- Well, today is the first
day of the rest of your life.
- My mother used to say that.
- You're gonna have to sit.
So did mine.
- So did mine.
It's in the mum handbook.
- (laughs) I always knew
there was a handbook.
Oh.
- Pascals, you really need
to tell us what's going on.
(Pascale sighs)
(Pascale inhaling)
- I don't want to be
a bad guy anymore.
- Well, thank you
for letting us know.
But let's start from
the beginning, shall we?
- Well, uh, it all started
when Tiago asked me
if, uh, I wanted
to make easy money.
- I think we can
skip ahead a little.
- Who hired you, Pascale?
(pillow rustling)
- It was the chancellor.
- Chancellor Hortense?
Uh, she's one of King
Leo's oldest friends.
He appointed her to that job.
- But what would
she want with Roi?
- She wants him to make another
pearl and give it to her.
- But that's not possible.
- It is, but it would kill him.
- Uh, but, but he is
with Micah, right?
Uh, uh, he's fine.
- Yes, yes.
And they know the
ceremony starts at 8:00.
We need to get ready.
(men singing in foreign
language)
(dramatic organ music)
(men singing
in foreign language)
(Roi whimpering)
- What is this place?
Bad guys fear me.
- You do that tough thing a lot.
- Gravelly voice?
- Yeah.
- My mum taught it to me.
- Oh.
- I can teach you the
voice if you want.
- Will it make me brave?
- Yeah, from your
throat, bad guys fear me.
- Bad guys fear me.
- It takes some practice.
- All right.
I miss my flock.
- But you've got a flock,
Rose, and the King, and my dad,
and me.
- I thought you hated me.
- I just wanted my
dad to notice me.
And you're a penguin knight now.
- Can I be a penguin knight?
- Sure, but you need to work
on the voice.
- All right. (laughs)
Oh, okay.
(footsteps plodding)
- Good evening, everyone,
and thank you for coming.
You're probably wondering
why you're here.
- Nope, not curious at all.
- Wasn't talking to you.
Knock it off, Penguin.
(Roi groans)
I know you can talk.
I've been spying you and
the penguin keeper for months.
(Roi babbles)
Don't have anything to say?
- He only talks to the
people that he likes.
(Roi continues babbling)
- Really?
Well, then maybe would
you like to tell him
that I brought him here
for only one reason?
To make me a pearl.
(Roi whimpering)
- But you, you can't.
- You've done this before.
I'm sure you remember.
(Roi vocalizing)
(pensive music)
[Hortense] When the sun rises
tomorrow morning,
and the rays of sunshine
will perfectly
alight on the cage,
you will give me another pearl.
So I'll be the
queen of Vonrovia.
(Hortense laughing)
Don't just stand
there. Get ready.
- No, please, no.
(Roi squawking)
Please, no, please,
he's my friend.
Please, stop, please, please.
Please, no, don't take him.
Please, don't take him away.
Please, you're hurting him.
(Roi vocalizing)
- The sun will be up soon.
(Roi vocalizing)
(solemn music)
(Roi vocalizing)
(Roi whimpering)
(pensive music continues)
(dramatic music)
(men singing
in foreign language)
(Roi whimpering)
(Roi vocalizing)
(men continue singing
in foreign language)
(ominous music)
(Chancellor Hortense laughing)
(light choral music)
(footsteps plodding)
- Let me get him down.
(metal clanging)
(pulley clattering)
- Please, hurry.
Please, please, please.
(footsteps plodding)
(chains clanking)
(metal clanging)
(chains clattering)
(pensive music continues)
Please, Roi, Roi.
(Micah breathing heavily)
(pensive music continues)
(Tiago sniffs)
- I am sorry, Micah.
(Micah exhales)
- Stay with me.
Please stay with me.
Please, please.
(gentle music)
(heartwarming music)
(Roi grunting)
- Did I get a nap?
(Roi groaning)
(Tiago laughs)
Have you guys got
something in your eyes?
Aw.
- Let's go.
(Roi groaning)
- I'm kinda hungry.
(majestic music)
(ominous music)
(dramatic music)
Oh.
(gravel crunching)
(gate clattering)
(pensive music)
- Hey, there's another gate. Go.
(Roi grunting)
(footsteps plodding)
(Roi vocalizing)
(pensive music continues)
- Bro, I don't think
we're gonna make it in.
(pensive music continues)
- Got an idea.
(gentle music)
(feet shuffling)
- Keep your eyes open.
I feel the chancellor
may have had accomplices.
And behave yourself, unless
you want to spend the rest
of your life in a jail.
- Don't worry. I'm
with the good guys now.
(footsteps plodding)
(gentle music continues)
- I've still had no word
on either Micah or Roi.
- They'll be all right.
- Yes, but it could be anybody.
The ceremony's about to begin.
- We should go in.
- Yes, let's go.
(footsteps plodding)
(gentle music)
(gentle music continues)
- Something's missing.
Where is Roi?
(bells chiming)
The pearl.
Where is Roi?
(suspenseful music)
What happened to the penguin?
(pulley clattering)
(suspenseful music continues)
(ominous music)
Hortense, what is
the meaning of this?
- Oh, you mean Queen Hortense.
(Micah grunting)
(birds chirping)
- Are we sure about this?
- You'll be fine. Don't worry.
(Roi whimpering)
(suspenseful music)
- Run along, Leo kins.
It's my show now.
- What have you done with Roi?
- What have you
done with my son?
- Where is the pearl?
(pensive music)
(suspenseful music)
(Roi screaming)
(air whooshing)
(Roi screaming)
(peaceful music)
- Go, Roi. Fly.
(Roi screaming)
- [Roi] Yeeha.
- Let's go find a new way out.
- Whoo, oh . (laughs)
This is fun . (laughs)
- I have the pearl.
I am the rightful
ruler of Vonrovia.
- Whoo, I can fly.
(Roi laughing)
(chancellor laughs)
- Yeah, that's right.
I'm your rightful ruler,
and there's nothing
you can do about it.
But bow before me, and I
suggest you bow before me
if you ever want to see
your sniveling brat again.
- His name is Micah, and
he is a penguin knight.
- I don't care if everyone in
the room are penguin knights.
I have 400 years
of tradition on my side,
and I claim the throne.
- [Roi] Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo ,
Coming in !
(King Leo speaking Latin)
(inspiring music)
(Roi screaming)
- Make way. I'm landing .
(air whooshing)
Yeah.
Whoa.
(body thudding)
(spring twanging)
(air whooshing)
(pipe whistling)
(body thudding)
- No.
- The Pearl of Vonrovia.
(court cheering)
(cane thudding)
(court chattering
indistinctly)
(court applauding)
Arrest her.
- Don't, don't, no.
(ominous music)
(sword rasping)
(footsteps plodding)
(sword rasping)
(cane thudding)
(chancellor screams)
(footsteps plodding)
(gentle music)
- Dad.
- Micah.
So worried about you.
- You traitor.
- I'm disappointed in you.
- Yes, Your Majesty was
entirely correct about her.
- Well, that was a good way
to wake up this morning.
(court laughing)
(feet shuffling)
(plodding music)
- It's a good thing
we got outta there.
- Yes, but now, what will we do?
- We can check to see if
the Penguinarium's hiring.
- I don't want to work
at the Penguinarium.
- [Tiago] But I will let
you be the boss this time.
- (laughs) No, you
will be the boss.
- I was the boss last time.
You can be the boss this time.
- Yes, but you are the
definitely the boss.
- [Tiago] Eh.
(Pascale laughing)
So we'll see, but I really
insist that you be the boss.
- Boss, wait.
(birds chirping)
(court chattering
indistinctly)
- May I present to you the
new chancellor of Vonrovia?
(court cheering
and applauding)
(stately music)
- Hip, hip, hooray. (laughs)
- Hip, hip.
- [All] Hooray.
- [Roi] Hip, hip,
hooray, whoo.
- Hip, hip.
- [All] Hooray.
- [King Leo] Hip, hip .
- [All] Hooray.
