[dog panting]
[dog barking]
[dog barking] [gentle music]
[wind blowing]
[thunder rolling]
[eerie sounds echoing]
[eerie sounds continue echoing]
[metal clinking]
[climber grunting]
[eerie sounds echoing continues]
[climber gasps]
[eerie sounds echoing continues]
[intense music]
[climber shouts]
[intense music continues]
[climber gasping]
[eerie sounds echoing continues]
[gentle music]
[eerie sound rumbling]
[footsteps tapping]
[phone ringing faintly]
[knock raps on door]
The mission report, sir.
[footsteps tapping]
[door clicks]
[phone rings]
Yes.
I'm looking at it
now. Mission failed.
All personnel lost.
Negative on a new mission.
All local access
has been cut off.
Yes, sir.
We'll continue to monitor the
area for further power surges
and we will recruit more assets.
[eerie music]
[heavy rock music]
Oh, do you really
wanna fly again
Oh, will you ever
get that high again
Didn't I give
a damn good try
Oh, didn't I
Didn't I build a
world with my design
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
Long nights
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
Long nights
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
[heavy rock music continues]
Oh, do you really
wanna fly again
Oh, will you ever
get that high again
Didn't I give
a damn good try
Oh, didn't I
Didn't I build a
world with my design
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
Long nights
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
Long nights
Still can't fill the
hole you left behind
You left behind,
you left behind
[climbers chattering faintly]
-Super excited about that.
-Oh, wow.
[Climber] Yeah. [laughs]
-Well, very nice.
-Right on.
[Climber] I was definitely
wondering what he was thinking.
[Climber] Yeah, it seems like
he just kind of zones
out or something.
[Climber] Yeah, I dunno,
but I don't want him
wind up like Megan.
For sure. I wonder what
actually happened there.
Plus, didn't he take a nasty
fall after that or something?
[Climber] I know I
asked him about it,
but he kind of blew me off.
Yeah, seems like he's
stuck inside his own head.
It's hard to totally
trust someone like that.
But he is super talented.
He just needs to quiet
his mind and lock it in.
Yeah, but that's easier
said than done, isn't it?
Yeah.
Hey guys.
[gentle music]
Hey, Sean.
[gentle music continues]
Hey. Did you guys
hear the news?
-No.
-No.
The Forbidden Wall
just opened up.
I just talked to Brette.
She gave me the whole story.
No way, the Forbidden
Wall is open?
How did that happen?
I'm not sure.
I, I guess the Native council
that oversees the land
approved some expedition.
Hasn't been like 50 years
since anyone's
been back in there?
Not sure,
but it's definitely been
like a long-ass time.
Wait, didn't something happen
the last time people
went in there?
Like, didn't everyone
die or something?
63 years.
It's been 63 years, and, um,
yeah, everyone was lost,
including my grandfather.
Um, that's really
exciting though.
What, what's the
story? Who's going?
Oh, well it sounds like Kurt
Carpenter hired Colton's crew
and then they'll be
the first ones in,
but I'm, I'm sure they'll
start reaching out
to people soon.
You guys in?
I wish.
I have to go back to the
UK the day after tomorrow,
but maybe when I'm back.
I'm out. I got stuff going on.
I'd love to go. I
hope I get the call.
[gentle music continues]
[keys tapping]
[phone rings]
Yes?
Uh, here it is.
Not much info here,
as the last asset was
lost before debriefing.
It was mission fail.
Of course. We'll have
an asset in place.
[Kurt] So you think
you can make it?
Oh, definitely. I'm
stoked to be invited.
Great. I'll tell
Colton you're in.
And that about
fills out the team.
Can you leave right away?
I'm packing. I'll be out
the door in a few hours.
I'll send over the directions
to where we'll be set up.
We can't get as
close as we'd like,
but the hike in
should be manageable.
Shouldn't be a problem.
Besides, I like a
good hike anyway.
[Kurt] You sure
you're good, Sean?
I totally get it if
it doesn't feel right.
No.
You can wait for Baffin Island.
I'm totally good, okay?
Listen, no problems whatsoever.
Besides, it's too cold
up in Baffin. [laughs]
Hey, now it's not like it's
Antarctica or something.
Thanks, Sean.
I'm really glad
you're on the team.
Yeah, me too. Thanks for
the opportunity, seriously.
[knock raps on door]
-Yeah.
Hey, I gotta go.
I'm out the door in a few
hours, I promise, okay?
-Sounds good.
-All right, bye.
Looks like you're going, huh?
Word travels fast. Just
got done talking with Kurt.
-And?
-He invited me.
I said yes.
[Connor sighs]
Can we at least have a
conversation about this?
Why? [scoffs] So you
can talk me out of it.
Your mother and I
just wanna make sure
you're thinking
about everything,
that's all.
-Ah. So mom sent you.
[scoffs] Okay.
Well you can spare me the
lecture, 'cause I'm going.
Look, we just don't want
anything to happen to you,
especially there.
I'm sure you can
understand that.
Yeah.
No, I get it. I get it.
Your dad died there,
and I'm, I'm really sorry
that that happened
to him and to you,
but I gotta do this.
Why? Why do you
have to do this?
Because he didn't make it?
No, no, hey, whoa.
Come on, Dad.
It's pulling at me,
like this huge magnet,
and, and you don't
know how that feels.
You're right.
But I know what it feels
like to lose someone,
and I promised myself
that if I ever had a son,
that I would be there for him.
And that meant making decisions,
and, and, and making it about
someone other than myself.
Well, you made it.
I'm all grown up. Congrats.
You, you, you don't need
to keep protecting
yourself, or me.
All right.
Dad.
It's the best
climbers in the world,
and I'm one of them.
[laughs] I can do this.
I'll be safe.
Don't worry.
You're just attempting a
climb that's never been done,
but, you know, eh, what's
there to worry about.
[sighs] Seriously, Sean,
it's a really dangerous climb.
No one has been up there since-
I know. That was 60 years ago.
Our gear is way
better, way safer.
I know that. I know, I
know you have all this.
But things can still go wrong.
I mean, remember Megan,
and, and and your own fall.
It's, it- Jesus Christ.
Seems like you're a little
off lately, that's all.
Really? You too, Dad?
Wow, okay. Thanks
for the pep talk.
Son, I didn't mean it like that.
You, you are an amazingly
talented climber,
and I have always
supported this journey.
[gentle music continues]
Ah, look, I know I can't
stop you from going.
Just want you to get back okay.
Making it to the top
is not worth your life.
It's just, it's
just not worth it.
Don't worry.
Yeah, no, I, no, I worry.
That's what this dad does.
Your mother's
pretty worried, too,
but you know how
she gets about this.
I'm sorry. I'm not doing
it on purpose, but-
I know.
You're just gonna have to
trust me on this one, okay?
Any idea why the tribe
is allowing access now?
I mean it seems so
out of the blue.
[Sean] I don't know.
All I know,
is they're only inviting
a few people back there.
They usually don't let
anyone near that thing.
Well, they've done it before.
They sure did.
I'm still going, Dad.
Yeah, I know. I know.
Just make it back
okay, all right?
I can't lose someone
else to that damn thing.
[gentle music]
[gentle music continues]
Am I brave enough?
Am I strong enough
To follow the desire
That burns from within
To push away my fear
To stand where I'm afraid
I am through with this
'Cause I am more than this
I promise to myself
Alone and no one else
My flame is rising higher
I am the fire
I am burning brighter
Roaring like a storm
And I am the one
I've been waiting for
Screaming like a siren
Alive and burning brighter
I am the fire
[heavy rock music]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[Radio Announcer] For the
first time in 63 years,
the rock face known
as the Forbidden Wall
is now accessible.
The tribal council that oversees
the land voted last week
to allow a climbing expedition
access to the remote wall.
The area's been
strictly off-limits
ever since the ill-fated
expedition way back in 1959.
The tribe is. [button clicks]
[heavy metal music
plays faintly]
Hey. Is this the way
for climbing access?
Yeah. You on the
climbing team?
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm just trying to
figure out where they're at.
Yeah, we'll just keep going.
You'll see the
trailers up ahead.
Okay.
It's kind of bogus,
if you ask me.
I think everyone should
be able to climb.
Are you're trying
to climb the wall?
Yeah, except I wanna
base jump off the top.
-[laughs] Wow, man.
-Fuckin' eh, man.
Go big or go home.
Well, good luck with your jump.
Hey, maybe you can
help me out a little?
Maybe get him to let me
park up there at the base?
[laughs] Dude, I don't know
if you're talking
to the right guy.
I have zero pull, man.
Well put it in a good
word for me, yeah?
All right, yeah. I'll
see what I can do.
Hope you make your jump.
Hey man, the only way
to fall is with a chute.
[gentle music]
[gentle music continues]
[birds chirping]
[gentle music]
[Sean sighs]
Well, well, well.
Hey, Colton.
How's it going?
It's going great.
We got a good setup.
The weather seems to be
holding. Ready to do this.
I'm glad you came.
It must be, uh, must
be a bit hard for you.
It's a bit strange, for sure,
but I wasn't gonna miss this.
Any idea why the
tribe opened it up?
Sitting down with
Chief Guyustees
in a couple hours to go over it.
I'm not sure why they did
it, and I'm not complaining.
[Sean laughs]
But they only wanted the one
team, so you know, here we are.
So nobody else gets to climb?
As of right now, just the
eight people on our team.
Not sure if they'll let
another group up after us.
Well, I'm ready, so
tell me when, all right?
Copy that. Go get some rest.
You look like
shit. [Sean laughs]
But hey, having a team
briefing later, so stay close.
[birds chirping]
[gentle music]
[phone buzzing]
[Sean sighs]
-Hey dad.
-Hey, hey, bud.
How's it going?
I'm here. Just waiting to
figure out the details.
I was napping.
Okay, when do you
think you'll know?
I don't know. Should
be soon, though.
He doesn't know when
he's starting yet, honey.
Well, well, well, let us
know when you know, okay?
Okay, dad. I will tell
Mom not to worry, okay?
Yeah. Yeah. Well you
know how that goes.
You just take care, all right?
[phone buzzing]
Hey, uh, I gotta go. I'm
gonna find out soon, okay?
I'll call or text
you later, all right?
[Connor] All right,
all right. Bye.
[phone beeps]
Colton.
Hey.
-What's up?
Just about to start the meeting.
I just wanna talk
more about the team,
'cause I want to climb.
And we've been over this.
You're staying down
here as the coordinator.
You don't think I'm good
enough? That's it, right?
Of course you're good enough,
but the plan has always been
for you to stay on the ground.
Hey, that was your
plan, not mine.
And I don't think
you want me up there
because you know I'm gonna
call you out on your bullshit.
[Colton laughs]
Look,
you'll do as I say, okay?
This is my company,
my expedition,
and the decision has been
made, and you are not climbing.
That's final.
Whatever you say, boss.
-Damn right.
-Yeah.
[Colton sighs]
-Hey.
-What?
[gentle music continues]
[footsteps crunching]
I know you want to climb,
but I need you down here
handling things, okay?
You're the only
one who can do it.
Fine
If we get a second
team on the wall, if,
you can climb, but for
now, I need you down here.
All good?
Sure.
Fantastic.
Hoo-hoo-hoo. Lovers' spat?
So funny. Are you
ready for tomorrow?
Yeah, I should be.
I mean we're still waiting
on the max signal booster,
but I doubt we'll even need it.
Well, I don't wanna
hear "should be,"
because we don't have
visual on these guys,
so comms are gonna
be crucial, yeah?
I'm on it.
All right, you better
be, you weirdo.
Yeah, this is gonna be fun.
This is gonna be
fun. [hand thumps]
[group chatting and laughing]
Quiet down,
people. Quiet down.
Okay, first things first.
I'm in charge, end of story.
You don't like it,
there's the door.
I've got 30 other people
ready to replace you.
Good.
Now, we don't know how
long the weather will hold,
so speed will be the priority.
Guyustees said it should
be about a week or so.
We're already two days in,
so we need to get
this show on the road.
Be climbing three teams of two
with two of you on standby.
The teams will be Jessie
and myself, Emily and Lucky,
Kristen and Brad.
Sean, you and Justin will be
on standby if anyone needs help
or, uh, anything else comes up.
Oh,
the chief wanted an
international flavor
to the team,
so here representing the
crown, everyone, welcome Brad.
Cheers, mate.
I'm just chuffed
to be here, guys.
All right, moving right along.
Now we don't have much info,
but it appears to be
pretty solid granite.
There might be a crack system
running up through here.
Looks like all possible lines
head up to this crux area.
So we'll spread out the three
teams, converge on the crux,
three days, two nights
tops, and move fast.
Are we using aid or trying
to free climb the road?
Climbing looks tough, [sighs]
which just could be
anywhere from 5.11s to 5.13,
so to go fast we'll
probably use some aid.
What about probe? Are
you putting bolts?
Negative on bolts.
Okay, the chief was very
specific about this.
This is a sacred mountain, so
nothing goes into the rock.
We'll use cams and nuts.
Look, guys, obviously safety's
the top priority, okay?
But there's a reason
that each and every
one of you are here.
You can climb this.
Is there a walk off?
Doubtful. Plan is to
rap down the face.
Hey, sorry to interrupt.
The chief needs to see
you for a few minutes.
Guys, this is Kerrie.
She'll be on top of things
down here and make no mistake,
she is the boss.
Well, almost.
It's nice to see you guys.
Nice to see a few
familiar faces.
I look forward to
working with you.
Hey, Chief, we're
almost finished.
No rush. I'd like to
talk to everybody anyway.
Of course, team, this
is Chief Guyustees.
He oversees this land,
so please give him
your utmost respect.
Thank you, Colton.
Thank you for traveling
all the way up
to the middle of nowhere
to our little community.
It's been a long time
since we allowed anyone
to approach the wall, let
alone attempt to climb it.
Our council debated
whether to allow access,
but we felt this was the right
time and the right people.
There are rules,
so keep in mind this
is for your own safety.
Only the climbers are
allowed in the area,
and we will offer
support when needed.
And we ask that any
other outsiders stay out.
Again, this is for your safety.
If Colton hasn't
already mentioned it,
please do not
deface the mountain.
It is sacred land to our people.
[Chief Guyustees speaks
in foreign language]
I made that a priority, Chief.
We'll be good stewards of
the land while we're here,
I can assure you of that,
and we are all very grateful
for this opportunity.
Good luck to you all,
and hope the great Raven
Spirit lifts you up.
And I'm sure we'll be seeing
some of you down the road.
Thank you, Chief. Kerrie
and I'll be right with you.
Thanks, Chief.
Okay, everybody get some rest.
Breakfast is at 4:30,
we start at 5:30.
They say it's a
three-hour approach,
so we're gonna do
it in half that.
See Kerrie later if you
need any portage or gear.
If you're sleeping in a
van, you can park it here.
Otherwise put your tent nearby.
All right, that's it.
Thanks guys.
Wow. Seems like it's
gonna be a banger, right?
Oh, we just need
to get up as fast.
Easy for you to say.
You're the speed queen.
Hey Jessie is just
as fast as me.
No way.
I could barely keep up
with you on the Sky Tower.
Yeah, well you
shouldn't have been out
on the strip all night.
[Jessie] Hindsight's 20/20.
[laughs] Well that sounds
like a good time to me.
Be careful what you ask for.
Everything is a
competition with her.
Hey, it's not my fault
that everyone is slow.
Hey, we're not slow,
we're just not fast.
Oh, okay.
[group laughs]
So, uh, Sean,
anything you can tell
us about the climb?
Um, no, no. Nothing that
we don't already know.
I'm sorry about your
grandfather, Sean.
[gentle music]
It's okay.
It's a difficult climb, and
he, uh, just didn't make it.
Well, I might not be
climbing tomorrow,
but I still gotta get ready.
Not in my 20s anymore, so
I'll see you all later.
Yep, uh, same.
Basically on site and
just wanting be prepared.
Same.
Well, that ended
quickly. Time to pack.
-All right, time to go.
-Hey, are you okay?
I'm sorry I brought
your grandfather up.
No, no, no, no, I'm fine, yeah.
I mean I guess everybody
knows about that, so. [laughs]
I'm sure you're tired
of talking about it.
No, it's fine. It's fine.
I mean I didn't really know him,
so it doesn't affect me much,
and, you know, people
want to know, so.
He wasn't the only
one that died here.
Um, we need to climb
together sometime,
maybe in the Valley.
-Yeah, yeah.
I'd make the trip up, for sure.
I remember hearing about
some impressive free
solos you did. [laughs]
Still have a death wish?
No, no, no. Haven't
been doing that lately.
Sticking with ropes.
[eerie music]
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[Kerrie] Come in, team.
This is base camp.
[audio crackling]
[Colton] I can
barely hear you guys.
-Do you copy?
-Kerrie, dammit,
you get the signal cleaned up.
We're gonna lose comms.
Yeah, copy that, Colton.
We will see what we can do.
Base camp out.
[static buzzing]
Hey, what is with
all the static?
Colton says it's
giving him a hard time.
Yeah, I'm working on it.
I'm not exactly sure
where it's coming from.
-That's encouraging.
-It's kind of weird.
[Kerrie] Weird.
[knock raps on door]
Yeah?
-Hey.
-Hey.
-How's it going up there?
-Uh, it's great.
They're a bit behind, but
they're making progress.
How far up are they?
Can't see 'em, so we
don't exactly know.
Okay, well I'm around
if you need me.
All right.
See ya.
[gear clinking] [climber
breathing heavily]
[energetic music]
[gear clinking]
[energetic music continues]
[energetic music continues]
Okay guys, let's stop for now.
Set up camp when you get
some good anchors in.
[wind whistling]
[gentle music]
[Emily] Um, You just,
you don't really
know who to count on.
[Lucky] How high was
the [speaks faintly]
[eerie music]
[eerie music continues]
Hello, Sean.
How'd you know it was me?
How do you know my name?
The Ravens told me you
were out for a walk.
I've been waiting
to talk to you.
Me?
What, what, what for?
You need to finish what
your grandfather couldn't.
Oh shit. You too.
I'm not talking about the climb.
He made it to the top.
You, you know about this. How?
What I know was passed
down many generations.
There's an evil on
top of the rock,
a nameless presence
trying to escape.
The stories tell the evil
that came from the sky
hundreds of years ago.
It drove our ancestors mad.
Our greatest warrior
was able to contain it
on top of the rock.
What does this,
what does this have to
do with my grandfather?
It needs two people to escape.
Your grandfather sacrificed
himself to protect the world.
I'm not sure I get it.
Why did he have to
sacrifice himself?
What, what exactly is up there?
I don't know exactly
what is up there.
The stories tell of spirits
that could break
into people's minds.
Did he know?
Did he know what was up there?
He did.
I mean, he still went. Why,
why, why would he do that?
He knew what was at stake,
but he went willingly.
I wasn't an elder back then,
but I knew they decided to act
for the same reason
he acted now.
So you knew all about this.
Why, why would you
let anyone climb?
The [indistinct]
power is fading.
There are several governments
that know about the
strange power here.
If that evil were
able to get out,
there's no telling what it can
do and where it would stop.
[sighs] We can only keep
them away for so long.
You need to pick up where
your grandfather left off
and seal that evil in forever.
You want me to do what, exactly?
You want me to go up there, and?
No, we need to get everyone
down as fast as we can,
not go up.
-No.
It must be sealed in.
What am I supposed to do?
I'm just a rock climber.
That's where you're wrong.
You're strong
enough to reach it,
and you're strong enough
to keep it at bay.
Keep it at bay?
When you're high in the air,
doing something that most
people think is dangerous,
is the noise loud in your head?
No, no, no, it's not it.
I'm totally focused on the now,
not thinking about what
I'll do for dinner,
what my girlfriend's doing.
I'm, I'm, I'm just living,
just breathing, quiet.
The quiet is its weakness.
Embrace the quiet in your
head and block out the noise
and you can defeat it.
Maybe the stories aren't true,
maybe it's old superstition,
maybe nothing happens,
but what happened 60
years ago happened,
so you must prepare yourself.
Take this. [object rattling]
[gentle music]
It carries the Raven's
spirit. [object rattling]
Remember the quiet.
Hey, whoa, whoa, wait,
wait a minute. That's it?
I have nothing more to
tell. It's out my hands now.
[footsteps crunching]
Fuck.
[gentle music]
[wind whistling]
You asleep?
Not yet. Pretty
tough to sleep.
Yeah, tell me about it.
Wish we could climb in the dark.
[laughs] Yeah, I'm out on that.
Can I ask you something?
[light clicks]
Sure.
Why do people call you Lucky?
Well, when I was younger,
I lived up in Telluride,
and, uh, for some stupid reason,
I got really into ice climbing.
So me and my buddy decided
to climb this 100-foot ice
hill called Silver Pick.
We got there, and there was like
this hollowed-out ice chimney
that goes maybe three
quarters of the way up.
There's no way either
of us could have led it,
but my buddy had
delusions of grandeur
'cause of this climb and
'cause of this chimney.
And he thought he'd
make his way up in that
and then figure out the rest.
Gets maybe 50 feet up,
runs outta screws, and
decides to come back down.
-No way.
-Yeah.
So I decide, 'cause
I'm an idiot,
that I'll give it a shot
and at least get some
of the screws back.
So here I go up this chimney,
and it's going great.
So, ready to get to the top,
and that's when the fun began.
I proceeded to try to smash
my way outta this chimney.
By some miracle, I'm
able to pull myself out
and onto the overhang.
At this point, my arms
are completely blown up
and I really need to
recover, so I grab a screw,
which happens to be
a thick belay screw,
and as I'm putting
it in, I drop it.
-Shit.
-Yeah.
I look down and I only
have one screw left,
which is not enough
to get to the top.
At this point, my arms are
shaking and I'm gonna peel soon,
so I grab the screw,
start hammering it in.
I'm holding with my
teeth so I don't drop it.
Finally get the screw
in, able to rest on it.
Buddy thinks I
should just come down
and sacrifice the one screw,
but I'm thinking I
have real shot at this,
so I rest for a bit
and decided to blast
up the last 15 feet.
Within than five feet,
my arms are cramping and
shaking, and I totally fell.
Holy shit, dude.
[laughs] Yeah.
Thankfully, the screw held.
Otherwise I would've ping
ponged down the chimney
with spikes on my feet and arms.
Not exactly what you want.
So what did you do?
Rested for a bit and
eventually dropped down.
So stupid though.
Then a few weeks later,
I was doing the O chute in Ophir
and like as soon as I drop in,
I lose a ski and
start to tumble.
I fell like a few hundred
feet down the chute
Missed the rocks,
and I was okay,
but never found
that ski, though.
Just skied back down to Ophir
on one ski and deep pow.
Totally sucked.
I guess you were lucky.
Yeah.
So, after emerging from those
two close calls and escaped,
people started to call me Lucky.
[wind whistling]
[gentle music] [wind
whistling continues]
[gentle music continues]
[gear clicking]
[gentle music continues]
[gentle music continues]
All right. It's getting hairy.
[eerie sound rumbling]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[eerie sound rumbling]
[intense music]
-What's happening?
-Get get outta my head.
-Where is it?
-Make it stop.
-Get out of my head.
-Is it here?
-Make it stop.
-Where am I?
-Is it here?
-Is it here?
-Get out of my head.
-Is it here?
-Someone make it stop.
-Is it gone?
-What's happening to me?
-Make it stop!
[Emily] Get out of my head.
[intense music continues]
[Emily breathing heavily]
-Get out of my head.
-Is it here?
Where am I?
-Get out of my head.
[Lucky] Where is it? Am I me?
[Kristen gasping]
[Charles] I am Charles
Lewis. I love my mother.
[climbers' voices overlapping]
[intense music continues]
[eerie sound echoing]
[Colton breathing heavily]
Hey, uh, everyone good?
[Lucky] What just happened?
[Brad] Yeah, what
the hell was that?
[Emily] Is it gone?
I'm not sure.
If we're all clear,
we should keep moving.
We still got a ways to go.
Base camp, do you copy?
[static hissing]
What the hell just happened?
I have no idea.
Some sort of interference?
Colton, this is base
camp. Do you copy?
Anyone, do you copy? Repeat.
Colton? You hear
me? [static hissing]
[radio chirps]
-Yep.
What's going on? We
just don't have comms?
I have no idea.
I mean, I'm working on it,
but I keep needing
to boost the signal.
Well keep boosting.
Get it back.
Now, what the hell?
[door clicks]
Hey, Kerrie, do
you have a second?
No, actually no, Sean, not now.
Okay, we're dealing
with a comms issue.
We just lost contact
with the team.
The, the chief told me some
really crazy shit last night.
Okay, Sean, not now, okay?
All right. [Kerrie sighs]
Look, I, I think you
really might want-
Sean, I'm gonna need you to go.
All right.
[Sean sighs] [gentle music]
Hoo-hoo-hoo. Scary Kerrie.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sean, hold up. Uh, sorry.
Sorry, I'm a little
bit stressed.
So go ahead. What
kind of crazy shit?
Look, I, I don't even know
how to explain it, okay?
He's talking about some
kind of evil presence
that makes people go insane.
Uh, okay.
All right, Sean, my suggestion
is don't eat the mushrooms
when you're in the forest.
-Yeah. All right.
-Okay.
Come on. Kerrie, you know me.
I know this sounds crazy.
The only evil up there is
what they take with him.
Nature is neutral.
[door slams]
[eerie music]
[Jessie breathing heavily]
Slack. Colton,
gimme some slack.
[eerie music]
[Colton groans]
Sorry about that.
You're really moving fast.
[Emily grunting]
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[gear clicking]
[intense music continues]
Hey, it is looking a
little gnarly down here.
Might have to go five to
10 feet without probes,
so watch out for a whipper.
Copy. You got this.
-Sweet, perfect. Thanks.
-Oh, there you are.
I've been looking
all over for you.
Here I am. What's up?
I need to talk to you, okay?
Okay. All good?
[wind whistling]
[rope whirring]
[wind whistling continues]
Hey Brad, are you okay?
[wind whistling continues]
Brad, do you copy?
[Colton] Everything
good over there?
Uh, yeah, I think so, um,
Brad's in a tricky spot
and I can't contact him.
[Colton] Okay, keep me posted.
Hello there, team.
This is base camp.
Does anyone copy?
[radio chirps]
Hello, team. This is base camp.
Anyone there? Over.
[radio chirps]
[static hissing] Hey
guys, somebody talk to me.
This is base camp
calling the team. Over.
[rope whirring]
Brad, what's going on?
[gear clatters]
Brad, your rack!
[static squealing]
Okay, what's going on out there?
Someone talk to me. Over
[Kristen panting]
Brad?
-Hey guys. Radio check.
-Copy.
-Copy that.
-Copy here, too.
[eerie music]
Kristen, Brad, do you copy?
[rock scraping]
You coming down?
[rock scraping continues]
[eerie music continues]
[Brad wheezing]
[Brad wheezing]
[Kristen's Mom] Don't
cry. Mommy's here now.
[overlapping voices echoing]
This will all be over soon.
[intense sound rumbles]
Come on, Kristen.
[overlapping voices echoing]
Mommy's here now.
[intense music]
Brad, stop. What
are you doing?
Brad, stop. What are you doing?
Stop it. [gasping]
Brad, stop. Stop.
No!
[intense music]
No.
[intense music continues]
No, don't do this.
[intense music continues]
Brad, no! Brad!
[Kristen cries]
[static buzzing]
Whoa. What was that?
That, that sounded like a...
Okay, come on, help
me out here, guys.
Somebody talk to
me. What's going on?
[Kristen whimpering]
[Kristen whimpering]
[static buzzing]
[gear clicks] [Kristen crying]
[static buzzing]
[Kristen crying]
Kristen? Kristen, you
okay? [radio chirps]
Base camp, do you copy?
Brad has fallen.
Repeat, Brad fell.
He's gone.
[radio crackling]
Kristen, what happened?
[static crackling]
Come on, man, clean it up.
[Colton] Kristen, what happened?
He fell and I couldn't save him.
[radio crackling]
[Radio groans]
Kristen?
Come in, Kristen. What happened?
[Colton] What? That
doesn't make any sense.
I know it doesn't make sense.
I can't explain it, okay?
He just went, he just
went fucking crazy.
[Colton] Okay, okay, calm down.
Can you...
Okay, you guys get your
gear. Get ready to climb.
-Will do.
-Okay.
[static hissing]
Kristen, you okay? Can
you tell me what happened?
Brad, do you copy?
[radio chirps] Does
anyone else copy?
[Colton] Can you climb down?
Negative. I've lost the rope
and I don't have the rack.
[Colton] Did you make
contact with base camp?
Did they know what happened?
I don't know.
Transmissions were breaking up,
and I, I'm not sure
sure what they heard.
I can't contact them.
Stay put. We'll
figure something out.
Kristen or Brad, do you copy?
Colton, do you copy?
All right, Sean, Justin,
you are clear to climb.
I want you to head up
Brad and Kristen's line.
Hopefully you get up there
and we can make radio contact.
Over. [radio chirps]
[Sean] Copy that. On our way.
We gotta move fast.
-Right behind you.
Tell me the rest of the
chief's story on the way.
[heavy metal music
plays faintly]
Okay everyone, here's the deal.
I'm gonna climb up to Jessie,
and we're gonna swing over to
meet up with Emily and Lucky.
It's a straight
shot up from there.
Kristen, you stay put.
Wait for Sean and Justin.
If I know Kerrie, she
already sent them up
as soon as she lost contact.
[Lucky] Are you still
thinking of climbing
after what happened?
[Emily] Wait, we're just
gonna leave Kristen there?
We need to make sure she's okay.
It's tragic what
happened to Brad,
but it's still my call.
If I say we go, we go.
We'll discuss it when
we meet up, and yes,
we're gonna let Sean and
Justin do their jobs.
End of debate. Out.
[Justin] Chief's story's
pretty out there.
I mean it seems crazy, but I
feel like it was the truth.
But if it's true,
we probably shouldn't
be climbing up there.
You didn't tell me everything
that Chief said, did you?
No, yeah, yeah I did.
Yeah, that was everything.
You sure you're ready for this?
Yeah, yeah, dude, I'm good.
All right.
You want the first pitch?
Sure, why not?
[intense music]
[Kristen panting]
[intense music continues]
[wind whistling]
[intense music continues]
[Kristen gasps]
Oh my god. Oh my God.
[Kristen panting]
[heavy rock music]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
[intense music]
-Ah shit.
[body thumps] Dammit!
Are you okay?
Yeah. Just gimme a
minute to shake it off.
Yeah, yeah, I got
you. Take your time.
I think I may have
a problem here.
How bad is it?
I can't put any weight on it.
All right, I'm gonna lower
you down to me, okay?
Okay. Yeah, go ahead.
[rope whirring]
[Justin breathing heavily]
Dammit. I wrecked
myself pretty good.
Sorry, brother.
We just need to figure out
how to get down safely.
But if we go down...
Kristen is stranded.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
We can't just leave
her there. All right.
You take the extra rope
and a few rap anchors
and you get yourself down.
I'll take this rope,
the rack, the haul bag,
and I'll climb up to her, okay?
I don't think it's very
far. I think I can make it.
I don't think I can
make it down by myself.
All right, let's call it in.
We'll tell Kerrie, and
then we'll figure it out.
Hey, uh, base camp, this
is Sean. Do you copy?
Justin hurt his leg.
He's gonna be okay, but
he can't continue. Over.
[Kerrie] Copy that.
What's your situation?
I'm fine, but Justin
needs to come down.
[Kerrie] Are you
both coming down?
Somebody still needs
to help Kristen.
[Kerrie] So what are you saying?
What I'm saying is that I'm
gonna help Justin get down
and then I'm gonna help Kristen.
Hi.
Are you hearing this?
Sean, just hang on a
minute. [radio chirps]
You can go up there alone?
I mean, can't just
leave her up there.
Good point.
[Kerrie] Sean, Justin,
this is Kerrie.
Stay where you are.
I'm coming to get you. You copy?
Yeah, we copy. Are
you coming up to here?
[Kerrie] Yes.
I'll help get Justin down,
and then we can get Kristen.
So drop your rope as
low as you can get it,
and I'll have someone
belay me from the bottom.
Should be enough
to get me to you.
She's a good climber.
Still gonna take a little while
for her to get here, though.
Yeah, too long. I need
to be climbing like now.
Yeah, we copy.
All right. You
belay me from here.
I'm gonna run the rope
up as high as it'll go.
I'll untie, drop the rope
back down for Kerrie,
and that should leave me with
just a little bit of ways
to go without a rope.
Are you sure?
You don't know the route,
you don't know exactly
where she's at.
Yeah. Yeah.
There's no room
for mental lapses.
I'll be fine. I got it.
I'll just follow the chalk line
and then maybe when
I get close enough,
the radio we'll be back up.
Hey, it's your call.
So you're really going up there?
What else am I supposed to do?
[Radio] Even though Colton
said for us to stay right here?
Oh, oh, Colton.
Yeah, Colton says
a lot of things,
and we can't talk
to Colton right now,
and he can't say anything to us.
So I'm gonna gear up.
I'm gonna go out there.
I'm gonna bring Justin back,
and hopefully I'll
be back before dark.
[Radio] Who's going
up there with you?
Tommy. He's more than
capable of belaying me.
All right, uh, stay here.
Figure this out.
[gentle music]
Yeah.
Oh, Chief Guyustees.
Did you recover him?
Yes. The body has
been brought back.
Here's the camera.
Thank you. I'm really
sorry about this.
We're gonna check the camera
and see if it caught
what happened.
It's not always what you can
see. It's what you can hear.
Okay.
Listen, we have an injured
climber on the wall,
so I'm- Do not go any higher
than the one with
the injured leg.
It's for your own safety.
Okay. No problem.
Sean has already left,
and out of reach.
What?
Here, um, check the footage
from the helmet cam, please.
I, I gotta run.
[static buzzing]
-Are you? Oh, okay.
Okay.
Yikes.
[switch clicks]
[static buzzing]
-Huh.
That's weird.
Oh, this is gonna take a while.
Lucky, Emily, do you copy?
[Lucky] Yeah. What's up?
[Colton] You start
veering to your left.
We'll start veering
to the right.
We should meet up
on the pitch or so.
[Lucky] Copy that.
Colton to base camp.
Do you copy? Over.
Base camp, this is Colton.
Do you copy? Over.
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[Sean breathing heavily]
[intense music continues]
[gentle music]
[Sean] Justin, do you copy?
[Justin] Yeah, I copy.
I'm at the end of the
rope. Dropping it down.
[Justin] Copy
that. Bombs away.
Rope!
[intense music]
Okay. I'm now off-rope.
Copy that. Stay
strong and good luck.
[intense music continues]
[Kerrie] Uh, on the
wall and climbing.
Copy. The rope is
down there for you.
[Kerrie] See you soon.
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[Kerrie breathing heavily]
[gear clicking]
[intense music continues]
[Kerrie grunting]
[intense music continues]
[Sean gasping]
[intense music continues]
[Sean breathing heavily]
[intense music]
[Connor] Making it to the
top, it's just not worth it.
[Climber] I don't wanna
wind up like Megan.
[Sean wails]
[Megan] Sean? I'm falling!
Sean!
[Chief Guyustees] Remember
the quiet. Remember the quiet.
Remember the quiet.
[Sean breathes deeply]
[Kristen] Can anybody hear me?
Yeah, yeah, Kristen.
This is Sean. I hear you.
I'm on my way over to you. Over.
[Kristen] Sean, where are you?
Not far from you, just below.
[Kristen] Who's with
you? Can you see me?
It's just me.
[laughs] Long story.
Uh, I can't see you
yet, but I'm on my way.
Signing off to
concentrate. Over.
[Kristen] Copy.
Be careful, Sean.
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[Kerrie panting]
Glad you made it.
[Kerrie panting]
Thanks for bail me out.
-Don't mention it.
You gonna be okay to get down?
Yeah, I think so.
Okay. Sean?
Hopefully already with Kristen.
Jesus Christ. What a
stupid thing to do.
Yeah.
He hasn't peeled yet,
so there's still hope.
Any radio contact?
Okay.
It's okay. They're
outta reach.
Did really well, but
we have to go down.
[intense music]
Kerrie, it is time to go.
Yeah, yeah. All right.
[intense music continues]
Okay, let's see if
there's anything on here.
Oh, at least it was recording.
Whoa. [static buzzing]
Holy shit.
Brad, stop, what are you doing?
What are you doing?
Stop, stop. Don't do it.
[audio crackling]
No, no.
[static crackling]
[static rumbling]
[static rumbling continues]
Oh, thank you, Tony.
[intense music]
[Kristen breathing deeply]
Are you there, Sean?
Sean, can you hear me?
I'm here. I hear you.
I can see you.
Another 10 minutes.
[Kristen] Okay.
[Sean breathing heavily]
[Sean panting]
Well that was fun. [laughs]
I cannot believe you did that.
Thank you. I owe you.
I couldn't just
leave you up here.
It was an easy decision.
Okay. Let's get
ready for the night.
[intense music]
[wind whistling]
[Emily] [sighs] Man,
Colton seems pissed.
[Lucky] When isn't he pissed?
Poor Jess.
Has anyone heard from
Kristen? Base camp?
Nope.
[Jessie] Don't you think
that's kind of weird?
I'm sure Kristen's fine.
There's nothing to worry about.
What? Just magically fine?
Look, I don't know
about this, Colton.
This is super sketchy.
We just left her.
It's totally not cool.
-I have confidence in Kerrie,
and in Sean and in Justin.
We continue the climb.
All right.
[Emily sighs]
Colton seems determined
to finish this climb.
Shocker.
Something seems off
about this whole thing.
What do you mean?
How many climbs have you
been on where someone died?
None.
Well, I have. We stopped
after it happened.
[Emily sighs]
Just seems like,
like,
like we're being driven up
this wall, no matter what.
[sighs] I dunno.
[sighs] Look, I, I think
everyone is just anxious.
And trying to do something
that's never been done?
I mean, yeah, it's horrible
what happened with Brad,
but if Colton wants to
continue, I'm good with it.
Will you be?
[eerie music]
Thank you for saving my life.
I'm sure you would've
done the same for me.
[laughs] I don't think so.
I'm not really a
free solo climber.
It's really not that different
from climbing on the
rope. [Kristen laughs]
Yeah right. It's
a bit different.
Did it feel good to
be free soloing again?
Yeah, it did. Yeah.
I just love that
feeling, you know?
Just being totally locked in,
you're not thinking of anything
except that section of
rock that you're on.
It's total concentration
with a clear mind.
So what happened?
[gentle music]
I don't know.
He was above me
and I couldn't see,
and then the next thing I know,
the rope comes down,
and then his rack.
And then he, um,
started to climb down
like a spider.
What?
Wait, wait, wait. Like a spider?
Yeah. No rope, just climbing
straight down, crawling.
What the fuck?
And then what happened?
Then he tried to
undo my anchors.
And then I heard
these voices [sniffs]
that sounded like my mom.
And then right before he
pushed me off the rock,
he made this awful
noise, and then...
Hey, hey, hey.
It's okay. It's okay.
[Kristen crying]
And then he fell and
I couldn't save him.
[Kristen crying]
Hey, um, I need to talk
to you about something.
So that's it? We're
climbing tomorrow?
You're damn right.
I'm sorry for what
happened to Brad. I am.
But he knew the risk,
and this is literally a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
We don't even know
what happened to him.
And that matters?
How? Hmm?
He fell. It doesn't
matter how he fell.
All we need to do is stay
focused, and we won't fall.
You're pretty hard on Lucky.
I don't care. He knows
what's at stake here.
Prick.
[insects chirping] [Kerrie
and Justin panting]
-Oh, sorry I'm so slow.
-Hey come on. You're fine.
[intense music] Just
here, watch the,
watch it.
-Oh my God!
-Jesus!
-Oh, it's you. Thank God.
-Fuck.
We need to get back to
camp like right now.
What is it you think
we're doing exactly, huh?
Okay. Seriously though.
You need to see this.
You need to hear it, too.
It is crazy.
-Okay, slow down.
We can't go any
faster, all right?
Sorry. I can't go any faster.
No, you're fine. You're fine.
What are you doing out here?
Well, I, I, I came out
to put up the big booster
that Tony gave to me,
but apparently the
tribe doesn't like
having non-climbers
on their land.
So I think I got rid of them,
but I, I really should
not be here anymore.
Yeah, go. We will
meet you there.
Okay. Hurry, please.
Okay. Come on.
So there's an evil
entity up here,
and it drives people mad?
Sort of.
Look,
it sounds like that might've
been what happened to Brad.
I mean, you said he
went crazy, right?
Yes. It was horrible.
I can't even describe it.
I mean, that fits
the story, right?
You know, it did seem
like a struggle in my head
right after we heard
this fucking sound.
Sound? What kind of sound?
What did it sound like?
It was creepy. Like, uh, like
it was alive or something.
Okay.
Look, look, I don't know
if that's what the
chief is talking about,
but it might be, okay?
I mean, what if it's all true?
We have to tell the
others and warn them.
How? We don't have radio.
Maybe we could climb higher
and then they could hear us. You
Want to keep climbing?
I'm up for it if you are.
I'll think about it.
-You good?
-Yeah. Thanks.
Okay. [sighs] Show us.
Yep.
Brad, stop. What
are you doing?
What are you doing?
[audio crackling]
Stop. No.
-What the fuck?
-Brad, stop. Stop!
I have never seen
anyone move like that.
Jesus.
He's attacking her?
Then he falls right after that.
[sighs] This is
some crazy stuff.
Man, that's not
even the crazy part.
When you threw that
helmet at me earlier?
-Yeah.
-It hit the receiver.
It changed the channel,
and it shouldn't have been
anything coming through
on that station, but
this was coming through.
[static rumbling]
-Right?
-Okay.
So then when I was checking
the footage from the cam,
I heard this.
[static rumbling]
That sounds like the
same noise, yeah?
Yeah, that's what
I thought, too.
So I went back to the radio,
did a little fiddling,
and I heard this.
[static rumbling]
Hold on one second.
Here we go.
[overlapping voices
chanting rhythmically]
[overlapping voices
chanting continue]
[Radio sighs]
Pretty fucked up, right?
-What the hell is that?
-I don't know.
It's just on repeat like
a loop continuously.
[Kerrie] Wait, so
that's still playing?
Yeah, only on that
channel, though,
that was not supposed
to have anything on it.
I, I don't know. [sighs]
I mean, the chief's story
is starting to make a
little bit more sense.
The, the chief's
story, the, the,
about the evil or whatever?
-I'm sorry.
The evil or whatever?
-Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, you have
to admit this shit
is not easy to explain.
Okay. Whatever it
is, it can wait.
How long until the
booster's up and running?
I don't know. It should
be up pretty soon.
Great. Just get that working.
We can talk to Colton, and
I'm sure that Sean and Kristen
will be down in the morning.
I wouldn't be so sure.
The fuck does that mean?
I get the feeling that he
didn't tell me everything
that the chief told him.
He, he seems to be on a mission.
Okay.
I would like to know a little
bit more about the evil
that is on top of the mountain.
Seriously?
[wind whistling]
[tent whipping]
Emily?
Are you going to the bathroom?
Everything okay?
Do you need some help?
I've been in some
embarrassing spots before.
[tent whipping continues]
Emily? Emily, what
are you doing?
[intense music]
[Emily growls]
[Lucky yelps]
[Emily roars]
[Child] Where are you, Daddy?
Are you coming back, Daddy?
Where are you?
[line rattling]
Where are you, Daddy?
Are you coming back, Daddy?
[overlapping voices echoing]
Jesus Emily. Emily
stop, stop, stop!
Emily, stop, stop!
[Emily roars]
-Stop.
-Don't leave me, Daddy.
Please don't leave
me. [Lucky whimpering]
Please, Daddy.
I'm scared, Daddy.
[Emily roars] [line whips]
Colton, Colton, shine
the light on her.
[Emily roars] [intense music]
[intense sound rumbling]
[Sean] I am Sean Dunham.
I love my family.
I live in Las Vegas.
-Where is it?
-I am Sean Dunham.
-Is it here?
-I love my.
Hey. [Sean panting]
Emily, no!
[Emily screams]
[Lucky panting]
Lucky, are you okay?
No, I'm not okay.
I'm alive, but I'm
definitely not okay.
Hold on. I'm gonna get
you back up to the ledge.
[intense music]
Oh my God. So
that was it, huh?
[Kristen] Yeah.
[Sean gasps]
Do you wanna keep climbing?
Definitely. You?
[Sean sighs]
I mean, the others are
probably closer to the top
and on a completely
different line.
We'll have to get an early
start and go as fast as we can.
I felt it in my head,
which means it could
be in anyone's head.
It could be in your head.
Are you,
you know, you?
That's what I'm afraid of.
[static rumbling and crackling]
Holy shit.
[static crackling]
[eerie music]
[Radio gasps]
Oh.
What the fuck?
Wait, what just happened?
Is, um, is she gone?
Yeah.
She just fell after
trying to kill me.
What? She tried to kill you?
Yeah, she tried
to drop the ledge
and then the rope
I was on, so yeah,
she tried to kill me.
-Hold on. We don't know that.
What the fuck were
you looking at, dude?
Your lamp was on her.
She defied gravity and
ran across the rock.
-That sounds crazy.
-Because it is crazy.
The only thing
crazy here is you.
People are dropping like flies,
we have no comms,
and apparently gravity
doesn't exist up here.
I'm going down as soon as I can,
and you guys should too.
-No.
We are not stopping now.
We are finishing the climb.
I'm not climbing another
inch up this fucking rock.
People are dying, Colton.
It's not worth it.
[scoffs] What about you?
You too scared to keep climbing?
Fuck you, Colton. I may be
scared, but I'm not stupid.
Well, unless you want a
free solo up this thing,
looks like we're all
climbing down together.
[scoffs] Yeah.
I'm moving over there.
[phone ringing]
Hey, sorry it's so late.
Um, did you get the
files that I sent you?
Yeah, yeah, I checked
it out a little bit ago.
Great. And?
You know, I'm not really
sure what to make of it.
At first, I thought
it was some feedback
or something military, but
it is way more complex.
I ran it through a few filters,
and I kind of narrowed it
down to a few frequencies.
But then I remember Mark.
You remember Mark
from the club meeting?
Um, yeah. He was the guy
with the cool ham rig, right?
He has an algorithm
that's really good
at isolating frequencies,
so I ran it through that.
Okay. And um?
Dude, it's crazy.
I've never seen something
like that before.
Something like what?
Something it's like, it's like,
it's almost like there was
something attached to it.
What do you mean attached?
Like, like something extra?
Yeah, there was just a
tiny bit of extra signal
that shouldn't have been there.
Uh-huh. Okay.
Um, and what about
the, uh, the images?
Oh well that's the easy part.
I, I'm sending you some software
to help you interpret them.
Okay, fantastic.
Thank you, Bill. I
really appreciate that.
And I'll, I'll let you
know how it all goes.
Yeah, please do.
And you bring the donuts
for the meeting next time.
[laughs] Okay, sounds good.
I'll talk to you soon, okay?
[gentle music]
[wind whistling]
You ready to do this?
As ready as I'll ever be.
You want the first pitch?
Of course.
-There you are.
-Oh, hi.
Oh, good morning.
Yeah.
-There you go.
-Thank you.
[sighs] All right,
what's the situation?
Well, I've been up all night
and I got something to show you.
[intense music]
What the hell is that?
So in the late 1600s,
this English scientist
rubbed a violin bow
across a plate covered in flour,
and he noticed that
the flower vibrated
into specific geometric
patterns based on the frequency.
This was called cymatics
by this Swiss guy.
Cymatics?
Do we have any idea where
these shapes are coming from?
Yeah, it's coming through the
radio and the white noise.
It's this specific
layered signal.
It's doing both audio
and the cymatic images.
Any idea what it means?
Yeah, well, so each image
has its own frequency.
When I run it through the
software, we get this.
[Audio] I am here. Come to me.
I am here.
-What the fuck is that?
[Audio] Come to me.
I think that the
chief's story is true,
and that whatever is up
there, it, it's talking to us.
Okay. First things first.
We need to get the comms working
so we can warn them
to come down, okay?
What, what is the
situation with the radio?
Stayed up late trying to
get the booster to work,
and I was just
about to try it out.
All right, let's
hope this works.
You don't wanna do this.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity.
Give it a rest dude. It's over.
[intense music]
[Sean breathing heavily]
[Radio] Base camp to
Sean. Do you copy?
Does anyone copy?
Yeah, base camp this
is Sean. I copy you.
[Radio] Oh, good to hear
you. What's your status?
Kristen and I are climbing up
to make contact with the others
[Radio] Negative. Kerrie
wants to come down now.
Do you copy?
We're trying to get within
range of the other teams first.
Something might have
happened last night.
Something happened? What
is he talking about?
I don't know. Do we tell
him about the message?
Kerrie here, only climb as high
as you need to
make contact, okay?
Do you copy? [radio chirps]
[Sean] Copy. We'll let you
know when we make contact.
We need to find
out what happened.
[Sean] Colton, do you
copy? This is Sean.
Yeah, I got you,
Sean. Go ahead.
[Sean] What's your status?
[sighs] We're on our way down.
Lucky and Jessie both bailed,
and I have no other choice.
Did you get to Kristen?
[Sean] Yeah, I got her.
We're a little below you
and over a few lines.
[Lucky] Sean, you should
come down with us.
Emily went crazy and fell.
Seriously, get outta here.
[Sean] Shit. We thought
we heard something.
You ready to finish
this Sean? You and me?
[Kristen] Hey, I'm still
here too, you know.
[Lucky] You guys are crazy.
Go down on a rope
while you still can.
[Sean] Okay, Colton, let's
do this. Coming to you.
You sure you're good with this?
[Kristen] Absolutely.
Okay. Man, this is
gonna piss Kerrie off.
Sean to base base
camp. Do you copy?
[Radio] Yeah, we copy, Sean.
We heard you transmitting.
Did you make
contact with Colton?
Yeah, we made contact,
and Jessie and Lucky
are on their way down.
What about Colton?
Yeah, uh, well we
gave him the message,
and he, um, he
decided to keep going.
[Kerrie] It's not a fucking
message. It's an order.
Everyone down, now.
Sean, there are things
you need to know,
like about the chief's story.
Sorry Kerrie.
We're just trying to do
the right thing here.
We'll contact later. Over.
Okay. All right.
Two more pitches up to Colton.
You're up.
Dammit! [objects clattering]
[foot thumping] Dammit.
Agh!
I knew he was gonna
pull some like this,
and now he's, he's
dragged Sean into it.
I, I knew I should have taken
that offer at Alpenglow.
It's just the two of
them headed up, right?
Yeah. Lucky and Jessie
should be done soon.
Okay, great.
I have to talk to Colton, and
I don't care what it takes.
I will get you every power
source in this fucking place.
Just get it boosted.
[wind whistling]
[intense music]
[Kristen breathing heavily]
[intense music continues]
[Sean breathing heavily]
[intense music continues]
Piece of cake.
Well good, 'cause the
next one's all yours.
Looks like a straight
shot up to him.
Did you see Jessie or Lucky?
No, um, they're probably
way below us now.
Okay.
All right. I need
about five minutes.
Yeah, take your time.
[Sean breathing heavily]
There we go.
Jessie, do you
copy? [radio chirps]
Lucky do you copy?
Does anybody copy?
[radio chirps]
Can anybody hear me?
Do you copy? Over.
[radio chirps]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[Sean breathes deeply]
Okay, Kristen, I made
it. I'm off belay.
-Copy. Belay off.
-Just, uh, gimme a minute.
[Kristen] Okay. No problem.
Sorry Kristen.
[Kristen] Hey Sean. What
happened? Are you all right?
Yeah. Yeah, I'm all right.
Sorry, Kristen,
[Kristen] What are you doing?
Why did you drop the rope?
I can't let you
risk it, all right?
This one's on me. I'm sorry.
[Kristen] Sean, don't do...
Ready when you are.
All right, take this
pitch. You top out.
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[Colton] I'm here and anchored.
Off belay. Over.
-Copy that. Belay off.
[Colton] Yeah, it's not
that bad of a pitch.
Give me a minute.
Oh, I don't want to
tell the chief's men
they have to get another body.
[sighs] You know, when I
separated out all those voices,
I could hear all the climbers.
Yeah?
Except one.
Colton.
Colton? Are you serious?
What does that mean?
I don't know, but just
based on the chief's story,
it could be that he's,
[sighs] like,
possessed or something.
I don't...
I mean, I know it sounds
ridiculous, right?
I can't explain
this any other way.
Is there, is there any
way to know for sure?
-Yeah. Yeah.
-Yeah?
No, yeah, I think so.
Right, because it should
attach to their voices,
so if I can just get each of
them to talk individually,
then I can probably
figure it out.
[keys tapping]
[wind whistling]
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
[scoffs] Well, here we are.
Yeah, we sure made it all right.
Hope you're happy.
Sorry, but I had to get
here. I didn't have a choice.
[Sean] I know. I know.
[intense music]
So it's you.
[laughs] I was
wondering who it was.
What? I don't know what
you're talking about, Colton.
I'm not anything.
-I know they sent another,
So don't even act
like they didn't.
They? Who, what are you
talking about the tribe?
The tribe? [laughs] Come on.
Don't act like you're not
working for the agency.
Wait a minute, you're telling me
that you don't know
what's going on up here?
No, I don't. But I'm gonna
find out, just like you.
If it's not you, then who is it?
[intense music continues]
[Kristen grunting]
Kristen, Kristen, what
are you doing here?
You need to try harder
to leave me behind.
No, you should not
have come up here.
Kristen, welcome to the party.
[intense music continues]
[intense music continues]
-Is that it?
-I think so.
Maybe it's you.
Well, they wouldn't make
the same mistake twice.
Kristen, what is
he talking about?
[panting] I'm sorry.
I wanted to tell
you, but I couldn't.
There are rules.
Yeah. Sean, she wanted to
tell you, but there are rules.
Are you in on this?
[intense music continues]
[Radio] Base camp to
Sean. Do you copy?
Does anyone copy?
Go for Colton.
[Radio] Colton, oh God.
Good, good to hear you.
Um, Kerrie wants everyone
down. Do you copy?
Yeah, that's not gonna happen.
We're already at the top.
[Kerrie] Colton, get
your ass down here now!
You guys should
listen to her, huh?
A little late for
that, don't you think?
[Radio] Guys, the
chief was right.
There is something up there,
something we can't explain.
I can tell who has it.
Each of you just
repeat "I am here"
into the radio,
separately, Please
Go ahead, Colton.
-Ladies first.
-Oh, for fuck's sake.
I'll do it. I am here.
I am here.
I am here.
Happy? We'll find out who's who.
[Radio] Guys, I know who it is.
[intense sound squealing]
Well, as stimulating
as... [Lucky growls]
[head bangs] [Kristen gasps]
Lucky, what are
you doing? Lucky?
[Kristen] Sean, it's him!
Lucky, where, where
did you come from?
What happened to Jessie?
[intense music continues]
Lucky, what are you doing? No!
[Jessie screams]
[Jessie gasping]
[Lucky grunting]
[Lucky roars]
[Kristen whimpering]
[Lucky grunting]
[Kristen whimpering]
[Kristen grunting]
[intense sound rumbling]
[Lucky roars]
[Kristen wheezing]
Kristen! No, no!
[kick thumps] No!
[intense music continues]
[Kristen growling]
[Kristen growls] Oh!
[Sean groans]
[Chief Guyustees
speaking faintly]
[flames crackling]
Kristen, no! What are you doing?
Stop.
[intense sound rumbling]
Kristen, fight. Fight.
[intense sound rumbling]
[intense music continues]
[Sean groans]
[flames crackling]
[Native brave wails]
[fighters grunting]
[fighters grunting]
[Connor] You'll never make
it, son. Just give up.
You'll never be good
enough. You will fail.
You think you can beat me?
You can't, because
I'll always be here.
Just give up. Just
give up right now.
You'll never be good enough.
[Sean gasping]
[intense music continues]
[Colton grunting]
[Chief Guyustees]
Remember the quiet.
[intense sound waves whooshing]
[Colton grunting]
[Kristen growls]
[intense rumbling echoes]
[intense rumbling continues]
[Kristen breathing heavily]
Kristen.
What happened?
Did you do it?
Yeah.
I am sorry. I tried.
I know. It's okay.
Come here.
[Kristen whimpers]
Let's get out of here.
[Colton wheezing]
Oh my God. Oh my God, did I?
Colton?
[Colton wheezing]
I'm so sorry.
I'm so sorry.
[wheezing] It's not over.
What's not? What's
not over, Colton?
They'll never stop.
[Colton wheezes]
-No, Colton. No.
-Come on. We gotta go.
[footsteps crunching]
All right. Come on, let's go.
We, we can't. We don't
have any gear or ropes.
How are we gonna get down?
He left my bag.
And like someone
said to me recently,
the only way to fall
is with a chute.
But there's two of us.
We can tie into each other.
No. Hey, I'm serious.
We'll tie into each other.
It'll work.
-No.
That's not gonna work.
Well there's only
one way to find out,
or else that skeleton's
gonna have company.
Ready?
Jump.
[Kristen screams]
[parachute whooshes]
[Sean panting]
See? I told you.
[keys tapping] [phone ringing]
Yes?
Yes, I know.
We're going over the video now
and a trained team is
being put together.
Yes. [sighs]
No matter how
cold the winter
There's a springtime ahead
I'm thumbing my
way back to it
Wish that I could hold you
Wish that I had
Hello? [door clicks]
Mom? Dad?
Hey! [Sean laughs]
So glad to see you. [laughs]
Let me look at you here. Oh.
It's fine, it's
fine. I'm okay.
-You okay?
-Yeah. Yeah.
I'm good. I'm good.
-All right. All right.
[groans] Oh my God.
Told you. [laughs]
Told I'd make it back.
Yeah, you did. Yeah, you did.
Hey, I'm sorry
about your friends.
I'm just, I'm just
glad you're home.
Yeah, it was a tough
climb, and, um, some,
some things happened.
Dad, I found out about
Grandpa. He made it.
He did good. He
saved a lot of lives.
-He made it?
-Yeah.
I always hoped, you know,
that he did it for a reason,
that it meant something.
Definitely meant something.
[groans] You've just
missed your mother.
She went to the store.
She'll be back in a minute.
Hey, come on. Come on.
-Yeah. Yeah.
Sit down. I want to hear
all about the climb.
[Connor and Sean groan]
Maybe wait until she's back.
It's a long story, and
it's kind of crazy.
[Connor] Okay.
[intense music]
[intense music continues]
[Colton] I love myself.
I am Colton Stevens.
I love my life.
I love myself.
I am Colton Stevens.
I love my life.
I love myself. I
am Colton Stevens.
[intense music]
[heavy rock music]
Scary's
On the wall
Scary's
On his way
Watch where you spit
I'd advise you wait
until it's over
But then you got hit
And you should've
known better
And we die young
Faster we run
Down, down, down
you're rollin'
Watch the blood float
in the muddy sewer
And take another hit
And bury your brother
[heavy rock music continues]
And we die young
[heavy rock music continues]
Faster we run
[heavy rock music continues]
[heavy rock music continues]
Scary's
On the wall
Scary's
On his way
Another alley trip
Bullet seeks the
place to bend you over
Then you got hit
And you should've
known better
Faster we run
And we die young
[bright music]
[bright music continues]
What do you say
Is this the time
For one more try
At a happy life
So, what do you say?
Is this unwise
To think my fears
Will not reprise
Woo hoo hoo
Ooh hoo hoo
Ooh hoo hoo
Woo hoo hoo
Can't be late
It's a rising tide
Like an hour glass
Running out of time
So what do you say
What will you decide
It's a win or lose
On a rolling die
Woo hoo hoo
Ooh hoo hoo
Ooh hoo hoo
[Production Member] Apple
56 Charlie, take one.
[production members
speak faintly]
[Director] And action.
[Radio shouts]
-Jesus Christ, Gabe.
-Oh my. Gabe?
-Not Gabe.
[group laughing]
No, no, no. Okay, my bad.
-Are we rolling?
-We're rolling.
We're still rolling.
-My bad.
[Director] Rolling!
[group laughing]
It's too real. Too real.
-All right.
-Too real.
