Time Under Fire (1997) Movie Script

(dramatic music)
Three degrees down bubble, make
your depth 3-5-0 feet on my mark.
Mark!
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music)
Pull the next one.
Yes?
Our next transmission
is due in 45 minutes, sir.
Proceed with a full station
check and get a report from Sonar.
Already done, sir.
All stations are secure.
Sonar reports nothing in sight.
Why don't you go below
and get yourself some rest?
Good night, sir.
Good night.
What the hell was that?
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music)
Deakins was court-martialed
and sent to a mental institution.
What a mess.
Any word, Ospiteri?
He got here 20 minutes ago.
They're briefing him next door.
Okay. Let's get this over with, Nick.
Send him in, please.
Hi, Sam Reeves.
This is Nick Fuller, my partner.
Take a seat.
We're looking for any information
that will help clarify the situation.
Now, we're going to be
taping this conversation,
and we want you to feel comfortable.
So, we'll answer any
questions you may have.
I'll do what I can.
Let's record.
So, why don't we start by you identifying
yourself, and then we'll
get on with the question.
My name is Michael Spiteri,
Commander Demo Resistance Movement.
I'm from the year 2077.
What are you still doing here?
Your flight leaves in 45 minutes.
All right.
Can you make sure that I can
access all the state reviews?
Yes. We've got clearance
for everything, but you're not
going to see a thing
if you don't get there.
I'm going. I'm going. All right.
Hurry.
Okay. All right. See you later.
Okay.
(plane engine roars)
What's wrong with you people?
I'm telling you, this thing was the size
of Connecticut had to be for the future.
I don't want to fucking calm down, man.
Don't you get it?
I've seen enough of you.
You suffered a tremendous trauma.
Being responsible for the deaths of 110 men
could wear on anyone's mental health.
The Navy can't explain
what happened on that sub.
Let's face it, Deacon's
story isn't the kind
of thing the government
wants floating around now, is it?
You're going to be a welcome
guest here, Dr. McCarty.
Yes?
Our next transmission
is due in 45 minutes, sir.
Proceed with a full station
check and get a report from sonar.
Already done, sir.
All stations are secure.
Sonar reports nothing in sight.
Why don't you go below
and get yourself some rest?
All right. Good night, sir.
Good night.
What the hell was that?
(dramatic music)
Captain, I have the con!
Engines transferred to auxiliary power.
Sonar, what did we hit?
I don't know, sir.
We aren't getting anything.
The system's down.
Sir, auxiliary power is not functional.
(rumble)
Captain, full power restored.
All engines returning to normal speed.
I want a full damage report.
Aye, aye, sir.
Oh, my God.
What is it?
I guess it's a sub.
It's enormous.
Identify it.
Is it hostile?
Allen.
Allen?
Come on, let's go.
You've got a visitor.
You need any help?
The order groups are here.
You Navy?
No.
I'm from a privately funded organization
that studies paranormal activity.
I thought you guys forgot about me.
Oh, no.
In fact, we've recently
just secured financing for
an expedition to retrace
the path of the Alabama.
We want to know what happened.
I think you're wasting your time.
This country, especially
the military, they don't want
to acknowledge anything
they don't understand.
Mr. Deakins, I know.
I agree with you.
100%. That's why I'm here.
I want you to come with us.
I want you to lead the way.
In case you haven't noticed, Doc,
I'm not in here on my own free will.
I can get you out.
Will you help us?
Unfortunately, there's
no time to think this over.
The expedition leaves in less than a month.
What do you say?
Lance, the report I read
said the man's a lunatic.
Forget the military report, would you?
Look, you cannot explain the
damage that happened to that sub.
Now, Deakins had a
spotless record until this.
Oh, please.
I think he's telling the truth.
So now the government is
suppressing sensitive information.
Yeah, sure. Why not?
If this kind of thing got
out, there'd be chaos.
Charlie, if you hadn't taken this job at
the State Department, you'd be
doing exactly the same thing I'm doing.
We're talking about the
possibility of time travel.
Are you just going to walk away from that?
Yeah.
Tina, have those EPA documents come in yet?
Uh, EPA?
No, but you have messages.
All right, well, just keep on taking them.
He's about as useful as a glass
eye at a keyhole in a safety net.
Now, Lance, you know I
understand the possibilities,
but I also appreciate the dangers.
Now, why would you jeopardize your mission
by involving such a volatile animal?
Because he was there.
Because he experienced it.
Now, look, we have the opportunity here to
uncover knowledge which could
transform our entire existence.
I can't just snap my fingers
and have the man released.
No, no, no, I know. I don't expect you to.
You do know people who could get him out.
Oh.
Oh.
If this all goes up in smoke, I
can't be involved in any way.
Understood.
Yeah, because unlike you,
I have plans for my future.
If Deacon screws up just once,
he's back in the bin for good.
Deal.
Yeah.
So when did you get to our time?
About three months ago.
And because of altered states,
Dr. McCarty says you don't exist?
Technically, no.
So why are you sitting in front of me?
Believe me, I know how it sounds.
Time-space continuum.
Dimension warps.
Hey, it's all hocus-pocus to me.
You know, Lance is the one
who knows about this stuff.
You should be asking him.
We'll be speaking to Dr. McCarty later.
But you need to tell
us everything you know.
It'll help substantiate
McCarty's testimony.
Well, can I see him?
No.
Dr. McCarty's not available
right now, but you've
got an opportunity to
speak to him a little later.
You guys think this is a joke, right?
You think I'm making all this stuff up?
Mr. Vetteri, we want to believe you.
It's our job.
But it's also our job to get at the truth.
Remember, we're on the same team.
I didn't know there was another team.
Alan Deakins.
What do you know about him?
Commander Deakins
is a very special patient.
He simply cannot be released.
Yes, I understand the risk.
But I'm not asking you, I'm telling you.
Please, there has to be another way.
Just be prepared to clean up the mess.
(dramatic music)
Come on. The special
forces are here to get you out.
What the hell?
Hit the alarm.
Hit it!
Cut the line.
Get out of here.
(dramatic music)
Don't come any goddamn closer.
Not bad for an old squid.
I never liked him anyway.
(dramatic music)
So, using the Navy's
information, we cross-referenced
the Alabama's last coordinates
before the disappearance, and
the first contact after its
reappearance, to pinpoint
an area where we believe
this time portal exists.
Okay, lights.
Now, this 20-mile zone is fairly
accurate, but it's 2,800 feet deep.
Do you remember what depth the
sub was at when it hit the disturbance?
We know this is hard.
I'm sorry, I just can't get past the
question as to why the government all of
a sudden is so interested
in finding this portal.
Government has nothing
to do with this expedition.
I find it difficult to believe that these
gentlemen are along for a science trip.
They're here on a purely advisory capacity.
Don't worry about them.
I don't trust them.
I don't want them on
my crew leaving behind.
Look, it's not for you to decide.
I have spent the last five years
of my life making this happen.
I'm not gonna let anything jeopardize it.
I'll decide who's on the crew.
All right.
What? What's up?
I'm just gonna say this once.
This guy's gonna be troubling.
Relax. He's gonna be fine, okay?
Just give him a chance.
The guy's got a chip on his shoulder.
You should have heard
him on the way over here.
You have no idea what you're getting into.
This is all set up.
The guy's paranoid.
Hey, I'd be pissed off, too, if the
government locked me up for six years.
Look, Doc, your ass is on the line.
We're just along for the ride.
I'm just telling you to be careful.
Look, I will take care of Deacons,
but I need you guys to stick with me.
Lance is like a big brother to me.
He rescued me from research hell at
Berkeley and took me under his wing.
I'm very lucky.
Oh, I'd say he's the lucky one.
What about you?
You must have had a
personal life before the military.
Yeah, I was married.
No children.
They wouldn't let me see my wife after
the accident, so I'm sure she thinks I'm
dead.
I'm sorry.
I didn't mean to pry.
I'm sorry.
Sir, auxiliary power is not functional.
Identify it.
Is it hostile?
I don't know, sir. I think
you better check this out.
Get on the international frequency
and see if you can make contact.
Aye, aye, sir.
Right below us, sir.
Must be three times our size.
Too tough to tell, sir.
Captain, I've made contact.
They're American.
They've identified
themselves as the USS Dakota.
USS Dakota doesn't exist.
Sir, they're turning 45 degrees starboard.
They're flooding their torpedoes.
Byron, let them know
we're on the same team.
Counter moves bearing 225 degrees.
Do we have a clean shot?
20 seconds.
Byron, report.
Byron, what's going on?
Report immediately.
They said the Alabama doesn't exist.
I think it's a trick.
Torpedoes in the water bearing
225 degrees at 1,200 yards.
(dramatic music)
Hello.
Hey, Doc.
Just, uh, brushing it up on some
of our sub's updated features.
I have to tell you, Subman
Cruising's awfully ambitious.
Well, we've all trained
diligently, and the engineers
have done an amazing job
retrofitting the sub to suit our needs.
Well, I'll have to take your word for it.
I hope you don't mind, but I, uh...
did some research, and... I found this.
She apparently never
remarried and lives alone.
Where'd you find this?
I'm a researcher.
Finding things is my specialty.
If you want, I could arrange a visit.
No, I... It's... It's... It's
been a long time, she...
If it was me, I'd want to know.
(dramatic music)
Hello, Gina.
Uh, it says here he earned a silver
star for bravery in 92, and he was
the youngest man ever commissioned
to command a nuclear submarine.
What's it say about the wife?
Uh, uh... Married Jeanie
Anderson, July 1987.
Graduated from James
Madison University in 81.
Family resides in Norfolk, Virginia.
No kids.
And works in retail.
She didn't know he was alive.
I was afraid you wouldn't see me.
Don't be silly.
Six years is a long time.
I hate to think what they told you.
They didn't tell me anything.
That's what was so hard.
I didn't know if you were
dead, if you were alive.
Maybe you'd been injured
or you were a prisoner of war.
They didn't tell me anything.
I dreamt of this moment every single
night for the first year you were gone.
But time does funny things.
He's not going anywhere.
Let's get out of here.
We've got our orders.
What does he know, man?
As long as the cash keeps coming,
he's the boss, and we do what he says.
This is bullshit.
Come on, man, I need you here with me.
Maybe I should go, huh?
No, please don't.
(dramatic music)
Alan, don't leave me again.
I have to find out the truth.
Prove to myself that I'm not crazy.
I love you.
Good morning.
You've got half an hour.
I'd like to thank you for what you did.
I don't know what you're talking about.
Thank you, just the same.
(dramatic music)
You all know this is not a military
submarine, but it will
operate under the same rules.
From now on, Commander
Deakins is in charge of this mission.
Everyone take their positions.
Prepare for launch.
It's like a military operation.
Ready to get this guy.
Same size?
Yeah.
(dramatic music)
I think we passed the projected area, sir.
Break time, boys.
First team's in.
If we make another pass 350 feet...
Pass by all you want, you still won't
find anything.
Marjorie, Prentiss, get some rest.
You're on, boys.
Recharge your cores.
1-8-0 degrees southwest.
Depth 350 feet.
Making course 1-8-0 degrees southwest.
Depth 350 feet.
I know it's somewhere
in the Bermuda Triangle.
Was anyone in the rebellion
movement studying time travel?
We were just trying to stay alive.
We didn't have the means.
What about McCarty and his crew?
Obviously, they know more than we did.
Did they have formulas, exact
coordinates, or did they just stumble...
Who do I look like, a fortune teller?
I told you, I don't know.
Look, we're not trying
to give you a hard time.
As far as the U.S. government is concerned,
you're a volatile element at best.
Look, you have no identity,
unlimited knowledge of
future advanced technologies.
I mean, what do you think the
alternative... Hey, I'm cooperating here.
All I'm asking for is
a little give and take.
Nick, relax.
I'd just like to have some of my
questions answered along the way.
Listen, this is not a game show.
You asked us who we are, and we told you.
We're a branch of the FBI.
You asked about Dr. McCarty, and we assured
you that you'll get a
chance to speak to him later.
Now, you're gonna just have to trust us,
okay?
Now, let's wrap this up so we can go home.
(dramatic music)
All hands prepare for evasive action.
Plug torpedo tubes one and two.
Countermeasures ready on my mark.
Torpedoes at 500 yards.
Impact in 30 seconds.
Course at 225 degrees,
running full power, sir.
On my mark, make your course 180 degrees.
250 yards and fully armed.
Impact in 15 seconds.
- Mark. - Making course 180 degrees, sir.
Launch countermeasures in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Mark.
Countermeasures away.
Prepare for impact.
Torpedoes through the countermeasures.
Impact in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
(explosion)
Have you considered other variables?
Weather patterns, currents, time of year?
I've factored in every
piece of information there is.
The coordinates are accurate.
The coordinates are wrong.
I know that.
Maybe we're making a mistake.
Allen, please, don't talk like that.
You're the one who's gotta
keep these guys believing.
(rumble)
Maybe this is it.
Sir, we've lost all power and I'm
having trouble holding her level.
- Depth? - 28, dropping fast.
We'll implode at 2,000 feet.
Is this what happened last time?
Yeah, except it didn't last this long.
What's going on?
1,000 feet.
- We're sinking. - Oh, shit.
Why?
That jolt must have kicked
open the ballast doors.
- They're probably completely flooded.
- So what do we do?
Get down to Sonar.
See if we can get a reading.
Hawks, get down to the engine room.
Kick on the auxiliary.
We need to blow those tanks.
Right.
- Depth? - 1,200 feet.
(dramatic music) (sirens)
Deacons, I'm at the auxiliary panel.
What do I do?
See the three levers in front of you?
Yeah. We just passed 1,800 feet.
Starting from the left.
Place them all in the on position.
I've hit all three.
Nothing's happening.
Give it a good whack with your elbow.
You've got to be kidding.
Just do it.
(dramatic music)
All power restored, sir.
Oh, shit.
Schmidt, blow the tanks.
Level is hot.
Aye, sir.
(dramatic music)
We're rising.
Cole, you got anything on Sonar?
No, it looks pretty clear.
I... Wait a minute, here's something.
It looks like land.
Land?
Are you sure?
Yes, sir.
Take us up to periscope depth.
According to the external atmospheric
sensors, the air is safe for breathing.
I don't think we're in Kansas anymore.
There are high levels of CFCs, and the
CO2 is slightly higher
than our own atmosphere.
But the oxygen level seems sufficient.
What about the temperature?
Yeah, it's a hot one.
120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Damn, and I forgot my sunscreen, too.
What is that?
Holy Christ.
We got company.
I'm on the armory.
(dramatic music)
Thanks.
Schmidt?
(dramatic music)
Launch a fire!
We surrender.
You are a smart man.
You cannot be.
This must be my lucky day.
Take them on board.
(dramatic music)
Take the prisoners to the holding cell.
You're coming with me.
One of your men.
We caught the little
bug sneaking on the ship.
(yells)
All right, Deakins.
What were you doing on that ancient sub?
How do you know my name?
That was not the answer I was looking for.
Now, where did you find that sub?
Oh!
Who are you?
Who are you?
You call me Spitz.
What are you doing with
Deakins, and why don't I know you?
How do you know who he is?
Deakins and I have been leading
the rebellion for the last ten years.
Deakins?
Wait, hold on.
What year is this?
What do you mean, what year is this?
It's 2077.
I can't believe it.
We really did it.
You did what?
Who are these people?
They're part of Chairman Braddock's army.
Now, what's going on?
Chairman Braddock?
Oh, my God.
Shut up, freak.
Excuse me, can I talk to you for a minute?
Sit down and keep your traps shut.
We're not military.
We're a scientific expedition.
Am I going to have to shut you up?
If you don't like it, trust me.
What's your name, honey?
We're going to be spending some time
together, so we might as well get to know
each other.
Not for me.
Let go of her.
Excuse me?
I said let go of her.
My ring finger, too.
That must have hurt.
Stop it.
Can I get back to my quarters
and spend some time with you?
You know how I am, and you are.
Bruce McCarty.
That's me.
Made a move on one of my men.
He had to be restrained, sir.
Come with me.
Watch your step.
Braddock wants everyone alive.
We're going back to base?
That's what I said.
(dramatic music)
We've been studying electromagnetic
aberrations in the Bermuda Triangle.
We came upon some kind of hole
in the sea, and we ended up here.
I don't know how.
Do you know how much
money this man's head is worth?
You don't get it.
We're talking about two entirely
different realities here now.
He may look like somebody you know.
Enough!
We will let Chairman Braddock decide.
Put him with the others.
You've got to tell your
men to take it easy.
That guy in there almost took my head
off, and he practically raped my assistant.
Then you should not have tried to escape.
Next time, you will know better.
What is your name?
I am Coda.
Mr. Coda sounds to me like the prisoners
are being abused by the men in your
charge.
Tell them to stop, and if anyone
touches the girl, I'll kill them.
Do not forget your place.
You are a prisoner.
All the same, tell the man
to leave her alone, or he dies.
Remove this man.
Now!
Is he all right?
Bullet hit an artery.
There's nothing I can do.
This man needs medical attention.
He's dead.
Get rid of him.
He's not dead yet.
Move it.
You son of a bitch!
What do you think about
a prisoner's health plan?
Anyone want to sign up?
If this doesn't kill you, I will.
Are you thinking of an attack plan?
I'll take the little lady for a spin.
No!
Keep your hands off her!
Don't you touch her!
Good night, fellas.
Spend a lot of time out here.
Alone.
No women in sight.
I'm sure you find ways to improvise.
You are smart, girl.
Cute.
But smart.
Do it yourself, then.
We'll have some fun together.
Me again?
(dramatic music)
Doc, in five minutes, prepare to disembark.
Where is Pierce?
He took Marjorie.
And he killed Schmidt.
You were warned.
Find Pierce.
Tell him to report to me immediately.
Go!
You wanted to see me, sir?
I gave you a direct order
to watch the prisoners.
Where were you?
I, uh...
I had to return to my quarters to
take care of some official business.
Business, huh?
I will tell you what business
you shall concern yourself with.
Do I make myself clear?
- Yes, sir. - Do you understand?
Yes, sir!
If you ever disobey a direct order
from me again, make no mistake!
I will kill you.
Yes, sir.
Now... Round up the prisoners.
Apparently, one has died.
Get rid of him!
Where is she?
All right, everyone, I have time to move.
Where is she?
Flush him.
Now.
That was the first time I
met Lance and the others.
And you believe they came from the past?
Not at first, but I knew something
was up when I met Alan Deakins.
(dramatic music)
I told you to speak to your men
about the treatment of the prisoners.
You are under the mistaken
impression that what you think counts.
Now shut up.
(thuds) (grunts)
(dramatic music)
If you were anyone
else, I'd kill you right now.
I warned you.
Good.
Now, silence!
Move everybody off of the sub.
Now, move!
(dramatic music)
Move, people!
Let us get going here!
(coughing)
Come on, move it.
Drop him, or he stays!
Drop him!
I said drop him!
I mean it!
Shoot him!
You idiots, shoot!
(dramatic music) (gunfire)
Let's go.
Right there.
Sound the alarm.
Lock everything down.
They're not getting away.
(dramatic music)
You're not him, are you?
Follow me.
This way. Come on.
What the hell's that smell?
After the war, the atmosphere dissipated.
The sun gets hotter and cooks the leftover
crude and toxic waste, which stinks.
Where are all the guards?
Everything up top's usually pretty
foul, so everything's underground.
But we're gonna be okay even though we're
in the middle of Braddock's territory.
Sir, regretfully, several of the
prisoners escaped while leaving the dock.
Did you lose Deakins?
Yes.
But it seems there may have been a mistake
concerning my initial communication.
That scientist with Deakins claims
they came from the year 1997.
Now, it is possible,
but... Bring him to me.
Yes, sir.
That's the harbor district,
the last of the free territory.
The demo headquarters is buried
underneath the harbor refinery.
Let's go.
What about my crew?
We can't get them now.
We're totally outnumbered.
Don't worry. John will get them out.
Who's John?
You'll find out.
Come on.
There's only so much you
can do with a limited fuel supply.
You said this place was
buried under a refinery.
I didn't say it was an operating refinery.
I can see fuel being
burned off the towers there.
It's an illusion, so Braddock
doesn't blow us off the map.
As long as he thinks there's fuel here,
he won't risk destroying the facility.
I'm impressed.
Time travel is something
even we have not perfected.
I certainly haven't perfected it.
Why would you attempt such a risky journey
if you didn't know you could make it
back?
Hope.
Possibility.
The chance to gain some knowledge
that could improve the quality of life.
You always were an idealist.
How naive of you.
I'm sorry I don't find this amusing.
Look, I don't know what you want
with us, but if you think we're gonna...
Silence!
You don't think.
You just dream.
I think.
And my knowledge has
led to great change in power.
History has proven that only the strong can
truly utilize knowledge
to its fullest extent.
And the weak crumble.
Change can only come from power.
(dramatic music)
Why are we going up when
everything's underground?
You'll see.
It's just up ahead.
Drop your weapons!
Surprise.
(thuds) (grunts)
Another illusion?
Oh, yeah.
Sir, we checked our
records on Alan Beacons.
And everything ends after his disappearance
from a mental institution in 1997.
He was married, but there
is no record of any children.
Makes no difference, Mr. Cotto.
Unlike our friend here, I
only believe in calculated risk.
You find him.
And kill him.
- Yes, sir.
- You don't know what you're doing.
Let me explain.
Get this man out of here.
No, no, you can't.
You don't know what you're doing!
You don't know what you're doing!
Get some rest.
You're going to need it.
You all right?
Do I look all right?
Take it easy.
We're gonna, uh... We'll
figure a way out of here.
Wake up, big head.
We're not going anywhere.
We're expendable.
You and me, we're batal.
Maybe if you would use your brain
instead of your gun, we wouldn't be in this
situation.
This is all because of
that piece of shit Deacon.
It's not me.
Well, he's not just gonna leave us here.
Now, let's take a look
at his last mission, huh?
110 crew members dead.
He's the commander and the sole survivor.
Well, Doc, at least you were smart enough
to lower the number of crew members.
Fewer potential casualties.
I suggest that you shut the fuck up.
And start praying that he comes
back and saves your sorry ass.
This way.
Why are they saluting him?
They think he's someone else.
General, there's someone
here I think you should meet.
What the hell's going on here?
Maybe I should be asking that question.
Eliminating the new Mr. Deacons
will make things a lot cleaner.
Surveillance reports Deacons
entering demo headquarters.
Excellent.
Assemble a strike unit.
Break up the little family reunion.
In the year 2015, Charles
Braddock became Vice
President of the United States when
Peter Jackson was elected president.
Just three weeks after the
election, Jackson was assassin's hit.
Braddock was immediately
sworn in as president.
The assassin was captured, but
somehow mysteriously escaped.
Before anything could be
investigated, the United States
went to war with Iraq over
some territorial dispute.
Recent aggressions in the Middle East.
The United States will take an
offensive stance to resolve the situation.
The U.N. determined that the United States
had acted inappropriately in
order to immediately cease fire.
I say to my accusers, you do
not understand the situation.
It is not about that.
In desperation, Braddock
ignored the U.N. sanctions
and launched two nuclear
missiles over Baghdad.
The Iraqis counter-strike
planted nuclear warheads in
Washington, New York, Chicago.
The U.N. intervention was too late.
The world was sucked
into the nuclear holocaust.
When the dust settled, Braddock
emerged with his own army and took control.
The one thing he didn't foresee was a
young councilman by
the name of Allen Deakins,
Jr. Allen had discovered that not only was
Braddock behind the assassination,
but he was allied with the Iraqi leaders.
Why did they do it?
It was set up to destroy opposing military
powers and seize control of
the Earth's energy sources.
My father was the leader of a
resistance group called the Demos.
When I was 21 years old, he
was captured, executed, treason.
The torch of leadership
was passed on to me.
Your presence here is very dangerous.
If you don't make it
back, I cease to exist.
And I'm sure Braddock realizes that
if you do, he may be able to stop you.
Then that's what I'll have to do.
I'm going to get you back to the sub.
What about the others?
I'm sorry, but an attempt to
rescue them would be suicide.
McCarty and the others
are my responsibility.
I won't leave without them.
I see where my father
got his stubbornness from.
Okay.
What's this area here?
We think they're laboratories
for Braddock's cyborg army,
but we don't know for sure.
Cyborg army?
Braddock is trying to find a way
to actually manufacture a military.
Some say he already has the technology.
If we get close to Braddock,
we should take him out.
I favor.
Stay focused, Spitz.
Top priority is to rescue the prisoners
and get you back to the sub as soon
as possible.
(dramatic music)
He probably has a place staked
out waiting for us to make a move.
That's why we took our
truck to scavenger territory.
What scavenger territory?
Let's just say it ain't Disneyland,
but at least we won't be followed.
Why is that?
To land the radioactive
toxins on mutant freaks.
Braddock's men are scared to go in there.
Let's go.
(dramatic music)
Team just infiltrated Demo headquarters.
No sign of either Deacons.
Double the amount of men you sent.
That leaves us open for strike, sir.
Must I remind you of the potential here?
If Deacons get back to the year 1997
with his knowledge of
the future, he can alter it.
Still, sir, just do as I say.
Get them now, or they're weak.
Right.
(dramatic music)
How many men were in
your Democratic rebellion?
Before I left, there were about 10,000
Demos across the country.
10,000 people?
That doesn't exactly sound
like a nation of unhappy citizens.
Not everyone knew the truth.
If you control 98% of the country's
energy sources, you can
dictate popular opinion.
If Braddock was so powerful, how
did you get Lance and Cole out?
After we left the Demo base, we hid
the truck on the outskirts
of Braddock's compound.
From there, we entered the sewer system.
There are most likely
million prisoners in this sector.
If you take Hawks, we'll
plan a few diversions.
See you at the dock.
(dramatic music)
Who are you?
I'm here to get you out.
Step back.
(electricity)
(dramatic music)
Sir, there's a penetration in C6.
The prisoner cell.
Must be a mistake.
The alarm is sounding in the south jail.
Check on it immediately.
You go.
I do not like this.
They're here.
That is impossible.
They're here.
I know it.
They're trying to break the prisoners out.
We have no idea.
Most of our troops have
been deployed already.
We are not prepared.
Send everyone who's left.
Don't let them escape.
I am on it myself.
(dramatic music)
(thuds) (grunts)
Braddock forced some of the
best minds to work in his private lab.
Their research focused on enhancing
the military and keeping Braddock alive.
How'd they do that?
Keep Braddock alive for 120 years?
Some sort of cryogenics.
I don't know the details.
But the scary part was when John discovered
that Braddock's scientists
were developing cloning pods.
You know, cloning isn't exactly
groundbreaking technology.
It is when it's almost instantaneous.
Imagine a computer that
could completely create an
entire cyborg army in a matter of hours.
Each clone capable
of altering its own form.
Wait a minute.
Human or mechanical?
A combination of both.
It wasn't completely developed
yet, but we couldn't take the chance.
That's why we had to take Braddock out.
This is it.
One last detail.
(thuds) (grunts)
(dramatic music)
Let's go.
(dramatic music)
Let's go!
Find them. I do not care what it takes.
Go!
Which way?
Let's get down to one level.
(gunfire)
Cover me.
We gotta get in that room.
We don't have time for this.
We're not leaving until
we get what we came for.
Now cover me!
Okay, go, go, go!
(gunfire)
Put that gun down!
Who are you? What do you want?
- Put that gun down!
- Im not afraid to shoot.
All right, everybody relax.
Don't come any closer.
Don't come any closer!
Where's the chip?
I don't know what you're talking about.
Son of a bitch.
Hawks!
Get outside and stall them.
Chip, let's get out of here.
I don't have time to play games.
Okay, okay.
I know where it is.
Find anything?
No exit!
(gunfire)
Hey, if you're careful
with that, that's powerful.
Did you get it?
Here it is.
(laser)
Let's get out of here.
(dramatic music)
(gunfire)
We're almost out.
(gunfire)
(dramatic music)
Let's go!
All the deacons, I'll cover you.
(gunfire)
(dramatic music)
If we can make it through
that door, we'll be all right.
(gunfire)
John!
John!
Let's get back in there!
We gotta get back to the sub.
We can't leave him!
He's gone, Alan.
But if we can get back, we
may be able to change that.
Alan, you did everything that you could.
Now we have to get back to the sub.
Let's go.
Yes, sir.
We lost the prisoners,
including Alan Deacons.
The prisoners, we lost them.
What about the younger Mr. Deacons?
We got him.
Take him to the laboratory.
It'll be our insurance plan.
Do not fail me, Miss Dakota.
Yes, sir.
(dramatic music)
Shit.
(gunfire)
See if you can get rid
of those guys behind me.
What kind of artillery
does this thing have?
Check in one of those crates.
(dramatic music) (gunfire)
What is that?
It's the bus.
You can't go through a bus.
- Watch out for the bus.
- No time for detours.
Hold on, baby.
- Get ready. (explosion)
(dramatic music)
They must not get away!
(gunfire)
Get out! Go!
Faster!
(dramatic music)
Get to the sub!
Okay, hatch is open.
Let's go!
(gunfire) (dramatic music)
Get this thing started.
I'll get the others.
(gunfire)
Drop your weapons now!
John, youre alive, John.
I'm not finished fighting this war.
Okay, guys, let's finish
this reunion up on the sub.
Let's go.
What's our status?
John, you're alive.
For now. Let's get moving.
We'll be moving in seconds.
John, you know Sonar?
Not a real ship, but I
don't know about this.
Give it a shot.
Margie, you're on navigation.
Spitz, head back to the engine room.
We're gonna have to
cruise if they come after us.
Yes, sir.
Not fast, but we are moving.
Prepare to launch.
Immediately!
(dramatic music)
Hold it, fool.
I want full power.
They are not getting away.
Hawks, set your course 165 degrees.
165 degrees.
John, you're comfortable back there.
This equipment is pretty
outdated, but I think I can...
Looks like we've got something.
There they are.
Can you approximate their speed?
They're three miles ahead, sir.
But we're running at
almost twice their speed.
Velocity of tubes one and two.
Prepare to fire on my command.
Sir, we're too far away.
Do as I say!
They're closing in fast.
They'll be able to fire in two minutes.
How far from the portal are we?
Margie, what depth were we sailing
when we came through the portal?
350 feet.
Five to seven miles.
We're gonna need at least ten minutes.
We don't have ten minutes.
Spitz?
Talk to me.
We need more juice.
What can you do for me?
We're too heavy.
We can pick up speed
if we drop some weight.
Prepare to fire on my command.
Fire!
Torpedoes are in the water at 2,500
yards.
I repeat, we've got two torpedoes.
Make that four torpedoes
in the water at 1,700 yards.
Reload all four tubes.
Reloading now, sir.
Armed torpedoes on my mark.
We've got a severe turn coming up 500 feet.
Closing fast at 1,500 yards.
Prepare to change course
to 045 degrees on my mark.
Arming torpedoes.
Mark!
Torpedoes armed.
Closing at 1,000 yards.
All reverse right rudder.
New course is 045 degrees.
(dramatic music)
(explosion)
It detonated almost 400 yards away.
Sir, we were too far away.
Torpedoes detonated early.
- Fire again.
- Sir, they're still reloading.
I care not what they are doing.
I said fire again.
How soon till we can fire?
Another 20 seconds.
They're at about 3,000
yards and still approaching.
What are you doing?
Take it easy, doc.
How far, John?
2,700 yards and closing.
Prepare to launch all four tubes.
I've got a jam in the weapons system.
Override it.
2,500 yards and they're
flooding their tubes.
(dramatic music)
The electrical's not responding.
I'm going for the manual launch panel.
Lance, take your position.
(dramatic music)
Fully turned and ready to fire.
(dramatic music)
Sir, they're turning to fire.
They're flooding their tubes.
Good.
Then they will know what is coming.
Fire tubes one and two.
Mark!
Torpedoes in the water.
(dramatic music)
We're only going to have one shot at this.
Lance, detonate torpedoes when I tell you.
John, give us a count
on the incoming birds.
Incoming 1,000 yards.
Outgoing 500.
Outgoing 700.
Incoming 800.
Detonate torpedoes one and two.
Now.
Torpedoes one and two detonated.
(dramatic music)
No!
(explosion)
Yes!
(dramatic music)
What do you say we head home, people?
I think we've seen enough for one trip.
Hey, nice work, John.
Grace under pressure
obviously runs in the family.
Freeze!
Spitz, what the hell are you doing?
That's not John.
No, not John.
Put that weapon down.
That's a cyborg.
I said put that weapon down.
Believe me, that's a cyborg.
He betrayed us.
Why would he betray us?
If he kills us, he'd be
endeared to Braddock for life.
(thuds)
Why didn't you believe me?
We're blood.
(gunfire)
(explosions)
He really was a cyborg.
The last line of defense.
How could you tell?
His hand.
So John really is dead.
Now.
There's still hope, you know.
If we can get back to 1997 and get
to Braddock in time, we can change
what's happened.
Set course, 045 degrees.
We're going home.
Spitz, you with us?
Right to the end.
Hold speed, hold depth.
Prepare for entry.
And entry in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
We're in.
It's imperative that we strike at once.
Braddock won't be expecting it.
Wrong.
Braddock has access to
the entire intelligence division.
You can bet money he knows we're back.
What difference does it make?
If I don't report back to
him, he'll get suspicious.
He's right.
Fine.
Tell him we never found the portal.
And tell him we lost
Cole in an engine oil fire.
And then what?
Then I suggest you
get the hell out of there.
Mr. Hawks, I sincerely
hope that this meeting
will be worth the trouble of
adjusting my entire schedule.
Save it.
I don't see my money.
Why don't you cut the crap, Hawks?
Show me what you've got.
What is this?
A key component to an advanced
cloning system from the year 2077.
I believe your people are
developing that technology.
This will get them there
faster, and it's instantaneous.
I underestimated you.
Mistakes like that can be deadly.
I want to talk to him.
I don't think that's a good idea.
- Hold on a second.
- This goes beyond talking.
Just think about this.
Braddock may have no idea
what he's destined to become.
If this truly is what you say it
is, I'll know by tomorrow morning.
You'll have your money in the afternoon.
Four o'clock.
All right.
So tell me, Hawks.
What was it like?
What does the future hold?
A few surprises.
Care to enlighten me?
Hey, Doc, even if he has no idea,
unless he's dead,
the potential still exists.
I think we've seen enough killing.
Look, all I'm saying is, I
just want to talk to the guy.
I don't know if I can sway him.
All right, Jeff.
24 hours after that, I take over.
Good.
In 2077, Deaconton's
grandson is your nemesis.
And he's figured out that if you're
not around in 1997, well, he'll have a lot
less to worry about.
I got a contingency plan.
It'll cost you, of course.
What are you talking about?
I can make him disappear.
What's wrong?
Nothing.
I'm just not used to having you around.
I spent six years without you.
Now I'm just worried about
what'll happen if you go away again.
I'm not going anywhere.
I have something I have to do with you.
I'm not going to lie to you.
I have certain ideas of what could be
gained by seeing the future, but I never
could have anticipated
anything so horrific.
So you understand
how serious this really is?
Of course I do.
Now it's up to me to change it.
How do I know I can trust you?
I'm glad you have my word.
Well, I thank you.
Now that I know, I have the
power to make that change.
Now that I know, I have the
power to make that change.
Power to make that change.
Change can only come from power.
You're an idealist.
A naive of you.
No, no, you don't know what you're doing.
You can't do this.
Kill him.
Let's.
(gunshot)
(robot noises)
(phone rings)
Yellow.
Spitz, where's Deakins?
I don't know. What's wrong?
Hawks betrayed us.
You've got to warn Deakins.
Marjorie, where's Deakins?
He's at his wife's house.
Address!
1256 Oakhurst Street in Alexandria.
1256 Oakhurst Street in Alexandria.
All right, call him and warn him.
I'll meet you there.
We'll call on the way.
Let's go.
Lance, drop the gun.
Come on.
Kick it away.
Taking control of the future is a
great responsibility, Dr. Makati.
Don't you think that convicting a man to
death without the proper
trial is a bit excessive?
Excessive?
Compared to nuclear holocaust, I don't
consider your death one bit excessive.
You know what they'll call this?
Self-defense.
I'll just have to kill you
because you already killed me.
(dramatic music) (grunts)
Let's do it.
Put it on.
You know, I want that bastard
to see my face when I kill him.
(dramatic music)
Come on, pick up the phone.
(dramatic music)
(phone rings)
Hello?
Ms. Deacons, this is Marjorie
Winters from the center.
Is Alan there?
Yeah, sure.
Just a second.
Yeah, hello?
Alan, you're in danger.
Something's gone wrong with Braddock.
What?
Paul, it's Toxin.
Marjorie?
Hello?
Pick a dress.
Alan, what's going on?
I'll explain later.
We gotta get out of here.
(dramatic music)
(gunshots)
(gunfire)
(gunfire)
I'm okay.
I love you.
Sorry about that, Captain.
Made a lovely couple,
or should I say family.
Nothing personal, you know?
Just business.
Go to hell.
(gunshot)
(gunfire)
I hadnt wasted our time with Braddock.
It wasn't your fault.
John Deacons was a great leader, wasn't he?
Yes, he was.
There's no future without him.
Now I'll never even exist.
What are you talking about?
I'm talking about Jim.
I'm talking about his grandmother.
She's gone and there's
no bringing her back.
Hey, Doc?
His grandmother's right over there.
Watch.
I thought you knew.
I had no idea.
(sirens)
I tried to warn Alan that Hawks
had betrayed us, but it was too late.
So you watched Hawks murder Alan's wife?
She was dead, right?
We got there shortly after.
I went to the funeral a few days later,
but that was the last time I saw him.
That's interesting because
Dr. McCarty said that he
had just been with her for two days.
Wait a minute. The other guy
said you hadn't talked to Lance yet.
Do you think he knows?
There's no way he could.
We're going to talk to Lance later.
He's telling the truth.
She's dead.
I've heard enough.
If Alan Deakins is still
alive... I want to see Lance.
That's impossible.
Now!
Is Alan Deakins still alive?
What difference does it make?
I may never exist.
John Deakins may never exist.
But it doesn't matter.
Nothing matters because Braddock is dead.
(yells)
(dramatic music)
(dramatic music)
