unforgiving.

THE MONASTERY OF KAPILA MAHARSHI
Salutations to you, Guruji
May you be blessed, children
Guruji, about the Chandrahasa who studied
in our hermitage--
Huh!
- Not Chandrahasa
- Then?
Veera Chandrahasa
[IN UNISON] Veera Chandrahasa
We are eager to learn
about Veera Chandrahasa
Are you all eager to hear the legendary tale, children?
[IN UNISON] Yes, Guruji, indeed!
Before understanding the tale
of Veera Chandrahasa...
Kuntala's minister, the man who pulled
the strings of this tale
[LAUGHS SOFTLY]
No, but a conspirator
You must first know the tale of
that Dushta buddhi
Yes
Then, In the royal court of ministers...
The minister of Kuntala
THE ROYAL PALACE OF KUNTHALA
Dushtabuddhi, The minister of Kuntala
KUNTHALA COURTYARD
A merciless wicked being
Hey, cunning one! You,
who dares to betray our divine King
A minister like you makes no difference
whether alive or dead!
- Hey!
- Ay!
Loyalty to the king,
[SCOFFS]
There is no place for
loyalty in this world!
Mark my words,
One who falls into fire may escape
One bitten by a snake may survive,
But...
those who provoke this Dushtabuddhi
will never live in this world.
Just to win the King's favor,
you thought you could unravel
the web I have spun?
Hah! You have made a terrible mistake
You committed a fatal mistake
by challenging Dushtabuddhi
You there
Throw this corpse beyond the fortress!
In the face of Garudas fury
The serpent trembled in terror
[LAUGHS]
Your Highness..!
Why this laughter?
My laughter is something that
no one understands.
In a single laugh...
- ..lies many thoughts
- What is that?
My greatest desire is to become
the King of Kuntala.
Indeed!
And the time is also in my favor.
Huh
- After all
- Hmm
- The King has no male heir.
- [LAUGHS] No, he doesnt!
The only one he has is a daughter,
named Champakamalini.
[LAUGHS] yes!
- That princess...
- Huh
- and my son, Madana
- Hmm
If I get them married,
then my son will become the dear
son-in-law of King Subuddhi.
Isnt it?
- And for Princess Champakamalini...
- Hmm...
...he will be the loving husband.
The decree has already been written
by the king Subuddhi.
- That, his future son-in-law...
- Hmm...
...shall inherit the throne of Kuntala.
Hmm...
One day, my son must gain this authority.
Isnt it so?
- How is my idea?
- It is good.
We must implement this plan
as soon as possible.
Indeed!
- But...
- Hmm...
- If someone questions me...
- Who is there?
- There is one group.
- Who?
The Brahmajnanis.
- The Pandiths.
- Hmm...
First, we must silence them.
How, Your Highness?
There is a way, Anala.
What is it, Your Highness?
The Brahmajnanis are widely revered.
- So they say, so they say!
- We shall arrange a grand feast.
Hmm
- Their stomachs will be full...
- Hmm...
If their hands will be filled
with generous offerings
If so?
The generosity of the food they have eaten
That is One
The generosity of the offerings
they have received.
Another thing
It will make them speak nothing
against us anywhere
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
- We must execute this plan as soon as possible.
- Hmm.
Tomorrow, you make arrangements
for the feast
As you command!
- Brahmajnanis who eat to their hearts content...
- Hmm...
should see me and be pleased.
Hmm
It will be akin to receive their blessings.
And at the same time,
I should learn their opinion about me
Isnt it so?
- First, go and make those arrangements!
- As you command, Your Highness
In the scheme of the wicked minister,
in the attack of deception woven
Who will know the hidden strings of fate?
Who else but Dushtabuddhi has
the power to rewrite fate?
[LAUGHS]
Amidst his roaring laughter,
a thought emerges
Who in this world can comprehend
the creator's play?
KUNTHALA'S BRAHMAJNANIS QUARTER
Hey... Savitri!
What is it?
The minister has summoned me.
I am heading there alright?
Dont you have any other work?
Why do you say that?
The kings palace,
the ministers house-Its a routeen for you now.!
Eating there, sleeping here.
Lets do one thing.
- What?
- From tomorrow, Ill just stay at home
You go and do the work of a priest instead!
It's always the same with you!
If I say something, you have a reply for everything.
Have you ever taken me out,
Never.
- Come home, you!
- What are you plotting?
I'll make you eat mud for dinner.
[LAUGHS]
Thats fine with me, no problem.
But dont forget to make drumstick sambar!
Aha(!)
Wipe your drool off! Drumstick sambar, ah?
Drumstick sambar!
What are you saying?
Havent you heard the proverb?
Even if a tamarind tree grows old,
does its sourness ever fade?
You will never grow old,
will you? Just leave!
[HUMMING TUNE]
As the Brahmajnani walked along the path,
A quiet curiosity stirred within him.
- Om Namo Narayanaya!
- [HUMMING TUNE]
Through the whispers of the trees,
A secred voice floats on the breeze
With great wonder and auspicious signs,
A boy chanting ''Sri Hari Narayana''
With great wonder and auspicious signs
What is this boy doing here
in this solitude?
Om Namo Narayanaya
Oh, child!
Huh!
- Who are you, My Lord?
- Don't be scared, dear one
Come here
The sacred Shaligrama stone
shines with divine grace
[GASPS] Shaligrama!
A symbol of great Rajayoga (royal destiny)
Six toes adorn his foot
- A mark of separation from his father
- Give me your hand, child. Rajayoga!
Oh!
Oh, child... Who are you?
- I dont know.
- Who are your parents?
- That too, I dont know.
- Where is your home?
I know nothing of that, Swami.
You dont know anything?
- Alright, will you come with me?
- Yes!
- Destined for a glorious future
- Come, child. Come
KUNTHALA PALACE SUBDIVISION
- Oh ho, Brahmajnani! Welcome.
- Don't be afraid, child. Stand here, alright?
- Minister...
- I have been expecting you
Oh, really?
I had something to ask you, Brahmajnani.
Oh, I came here...
- ..to tell you something important too!
- No, no. Let me ask first
No, let me say it first!
Brahmajnani, Ive been waiting for a long time.
I must ask first.
Fine, fine. Go ahead.
Yesterday, we had arranged a grand feast
for the Brahmajnanis.
Yes.
I didn't get the chance to speak
with you properly.
Yes, true.
How was our hospitality and the meal?
- The feast?
- Huh
[BURPS]
So, were you satisfied or not?
Look, I just praised the taste.
If a full-stomach man praises, it's fine.
[IN UNISON] But if a hungry man does,
its trouble!
That's why, to show my satisfaction,
- [BURPS]
- Alright, Swami.
- And those excellent kadubu (dumplings)
- I had already instructed them
when serving the Brahmajnanis,
dont hold back. Serve generously!
- And those ladoo
- Huh!
- Not just ladoo.
- What else?
- Laddu!
- What is that, Brahmajnani?
- Ladoo and Laddu are different!
- How can they be different?
Aren't they the same?
- Ladoo is small.
- Ohhh!
And Laddu is big!
- Is that so?
- Absolutely!
You Brahmajnanis have a lot
of knowledge about food.
- Not just that.
- Hmm?
Such Holige!
Ah! What a grand Holige!
Aah!!!
- Subbanna!
- What is it, Subbanna?
I dont see your banana leaf anymor,
where did it go?
Oh, that? Didnt they generously
smear ghee all over the leaf?
Yes, they did!
Well, I thought that was part of
the feast, so I ate the whole leaf too!
[LAUGHS]
Henceforth, there wont be a
single cow left in our village!
- All the cows will leave our village.
- Why do you say that?
There wont be any banana leaves
left for them to eat!
Youve finished them all today.
Poor cows! What will they do now?
[LAUGHS]
[LAUGHS AND BURPS IN UNISON]
[BURPS]
Ah! What a grand feast!
After eating such a meal, one wouldnt
be able to get up for seven days!
- Oh dear!
- That means it was that filling, right?
If you are happy, then we are happy too!
- Absolutely!
- There was no issue with the offerings, I hope?
Oh no, we were given so generously that
we wont be poor even in our next lives!
Meaning?
We received so much that even after
distributing and sharing,
- we still had plenty left!
- Good, good!
But despite all this satisfaction,
I came here to tell you
something important.
What is it?
- While coming here,
- Hmm
I saw many children on the way
- Among them, one caught my attention.
- Hmm
- The moment I saw him, I felt something.
- What do you mean?
I had a strong curiosity
to know more about him.
Is that so?
- Thats why I brought that boy with me.
- Where?
Here he is!
[LAUGHS]
Whats the matter with you, Brahmajnani?
Why?
You said you had something
important to tell me,
I thought it must be
something significant.
- So I was eagerly listening.
- Is that so?
After all,
you bring some ordinary boy
and ask me about him?
Huh!
- To sum him up in one word,
- Hmm.
- He is nothing but a burden to this earth.
- This boy?
[SCOFFS]
Hah! Foolish one.
Brahmajnani, thousands
of worms crawl in dung.
- yet under the scorching sun,
- Hah!!.
They wither into dust.
Ofcourse!
Their existence doesnt mean anything!
Born or dead-it changes nothing.
you brought a mere beggar here
and expect me to care?
Tch!
If you have something truly important
to discuss, then speak!
- Your Highness..
- What now?
You may call him a beggar now
What else could he be?
He may look like an ordinary boy today,
Hmm.
- But do you know why I brought him?
- Why?
Have you observed his facial features?
Look closely-His face radiates the majestic charm of royalty.
Not only that...
I can predict his future!
Your Highness..
this boy was born into a royal lineage.
[SCOFFS] Him?!
Now I understand your nature.
What do you mean?
You must have learned a little bit
of astrology here and there
And now you wanted to show off
that knowledge in front of me!
- No, no!
- Isnt that right?
Not at all, your Highness.
Astrology never lies!
- This boy is not just from a royal family
- Then?
One day, he will become a king!
If not, I will give up astrology altogether.
- This boy?
- Yes
- He will become a king?
- No doubt about it.
- Brahmajnani...
- Yes?
Dont think I am rejecting
your words outright.
But if you claim that
he will become a king,
Do you have the ability to say
where exactly he will rule?
- Its not about ruling just anywhere
- Huh
He will rule right here, over Kuntala!
Dont say such things recklessly.
- For him to become the king of Kuntala,
- Hmm
does he have any relation to King Subuddhi?
No, he doesnt.
Then how will he become king?
Is it impossible for him?
On what basis are you saying this?
Its not just a wild guess.
He will marry the princess of Kuntala...
..and eventually rule this land!
This is his destiny.
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
I know this news doesnt
make you happy, your highness.
- He will marry the princess!!
- He certainly will.
- And becomes the king of Kuntala!
- Certainly he will..
This boy will rule.
Thats why I have one request for you.
[LAUGHS]
- You and your men
- Hmm
Must keep an eye on such children.
Your attention must be on him.
Thats why I brought him here.
Brahmajnani
Yes?
I wont just keep an eye on him
- I will keep both my eyes on this boy!
- Thats exactly what I wanted to hear
Now I have confidence.
- I am truly delighted, Brahmajnani!
- Good, good.
- You ate to your hearts content.
- [MIMICKING BURP]
And now you have filled
my mind with thoughts!
Very well, I have done my duty.
Keep a watchful eye on him
Absolutely.
I will take my leave now.
Of course.
[HUMMING TUNE]
[BURPS]
The deadly venomous serpents lineage,
In the lake of crocodiles,
Floats like a sacred pond of lotus
The withered forest is ablaze
hiding its cruel nature,
just like a noble soul with a virtuous facade.
[LAUGHS]
Come here.
Child!
Child... what is your name?
I dont know.
- Who are your parents?
- I dont know that either.
Oh dear!
You dont even know
who your parents are?
No...
Where is your village, child?
I dont know, Swami.
You dont know anything at all?
I know nothing..
Poor thing! Poor thing! Poor thing!
He seems harmless, but sharp like a thorn,
yet he contemplates openly.
Will he let the boy go now?
The cunning one is lost in thought.
Child.
Have you eaten?
No.
Are you hungry?
Yes.
I will feed you well, alright?
Hu..
Hey!
This child must be starving.
Take him to the dining hall over there
and let him eat as much as he wants.
Wait!
Keep this child with you
for a while, understand?
[GESTURES TO LEAVE]
Can fates decree be erased?
Can destinys script be rewritten?
Is this an illusion or black magic?
Dushtabuddhi weaves a grand conspiracy
THE HIDDEN LAIR OF ASSASSINS
Hey!
A mere beggar boy, from nowhere,
claiming Kuntalas throne?!
Hey!!
As long as Dushtabuddhi is alive,
How can that tranpire?!
My plans are unshakable-no force, not
even Lord Brahma himself, can undo them!
Ay!
[SIGNALLING TO COME]
Yes, my lord!
Listen carefully!
Hu!!
The royal guards will be bringing
a boy with six toes on his left foot.
Take him into the forest.
Without anyone noticing
cut his head off !!
And bring me
proof! Understood?
This is the reward for the task
[GESTURES TO LEAVE]
As you command, my lord!
Hmm
Destiny...
Fate...
I , Dushtabuddhi, the one
who rewrites fate!
A heart of stone
fulfills its own desires,
Fulfills its own desires.
THE DENSE FOREST OF KUNTALA AND CHANDANAVATHI
The child is innocent,
but what does it matter now?
Oh god!
- What are you waiting for? Finish him!
- Please, let me go! Don't harm me!
[GRUNTS]
[SCREAMS PAINFULLY]
Here it is my lord!
My lord, as per your orders,
The boy has been killed.
I have brought his severed finger
as proof. Please accept it.
[LAUGHS]
[LAUGHS MENANCINGLY]
Ha! Among the boys, the one who shines like the moon,
will he become the king of Kuntala?
The boy meant to rule...
Now he lies in a murderers lair instead!
The Brahmajnanis' words have been proven false.
It is I, Dushtabuddhi,
who has rewritten destiny!
[LAUGHS]
Fate?
No! It is human effort that shapes fate!
The womb of time now witnesses
a brutal dance of cruelty
The womb of time now witnesses
a brutal dance of cruelty
The blade is stained,
but fate turns green
The deep path of Kuntala now
echoes a different tune
A mere whim of fate
changes a rulers destiny.
ROYAL PALACE OF CHANDANAVATHI
[VOCABLES]
VALOR DUEL OF THE FEUDAL LORDS
With supreme valor pledged as a vow
on the battlefield
A true warrior king
of this land, Veera Simha
Firmly believing in the power of his arms
charged forth with unwavering determination.
Oh noble kings of Aryavarta
gathered in this battlefield,
Turn your attention towards my words,

the fall of a once-mighty overlord.
You stand here, watching me,

On the mantle of earth,
Among the feudatory kings,
Rose above all
A valiant heir

Bears the weight of legendary lineage of Samara Simha
The invincible warrior Veerasimha!
Rulers from Anga, Vanga, Kalinga,
Kamboja, and Manipur,
All great sovereigns of this land,

[LAUGHS]
I have proven my worth to ascend
the supreme throne!
Standing before the glorious sword of power,
exalted upon the resplendent golden seat,
I now defy the very laws of combat!
Having vanquished my enemy,
I trample upon his fallen chest!
Who dares question my victory?
Who has the courage to challenge me?
The proud mountain of arrogance trembles
As the mighty warriors bow their heads in submission
That sword must belong to me! First, I shall claim that sword as my own!
In the heat of battle, the battlefield echoes
A symbol of valor shines upon the land!
The wicked tremble as the mighty kings shudder in awe!

Just as it is a virtue to bow
before righteousness,
It is our tradition of Kuntala to rise
against injustice and tyranny!
Ay!
By direspecting the war mettle,
do you tend to win via conspiracy?
If you dare to challenge me,
face me in battle!
If I fail to bring you down and place your
severed head at the feet of Shivaputtaswami!
I shall renounce my name,
Chandrahasa of Chandanaavathi!
Chandrahasa! Your mere arrogance is not
enough to defeat the feudatories.

flaunting your arrogance!
You have brought
upon your own downfall!

Woah!

upon me this divine sword.
Mother.
A mother is like a deity.

Rise!
Every mother wishes for her son
to be a brave and valiant warrior.
Yes mother
That was my wish too
and you have fulfilled it.
Before ascending the throne
you must send gifts to Maharaja Subuddhi

the Maharani,
the revered sage Galava, and
the chief minister Dushtabuddhi.
Mother,
It is our duty as the next generation to carry
forward the traditions of our ancestors.
Yes.

ROYAL COURT OF CHANDANAVATI
Highness!
I almost tripped and fell! Highness!
Messenger, may all be well. Get up
The tax messenger has packed his bags
and rushed here as commanded!
I ran all the way!
Stand still, don't worry. Take a breath.
No, no, Your Highness, I can't rest!
You have done something that has
put me in a difficult position.
Hey!
So, you mean to say I must make a mistake
for you to leave this town?
No, Your Highness
- you asked me a question!
- Yes, I did. There is a reason for it.
You must now go to the Kuntala Kingdom.
But,
Your Highness, what trouble transpired
here for me to leave this place?
So, just because trouble arises,
you think you must move to another place?
I have survived all these days
by collecting taxes from your people.
- And now, will you continue to survive?
- Why?
- By collecting taxes from me!
- No, not from you
- Exactly!
- Uh-huh
That is why you must go to Kuntala.
But why?
To deliver the royal tax gifts.
[LAUGHS]
Did you forget?
Huh!
Did you forget?
- Hey! It's memory.
- Yes
Recently I delivered the royal tax gifts
[LAUGHS]
- But listen, the tax you delivered last time
- Haa
That was the annual tax.
And now?
Todays tax is a special one
Meaning?
- Because
- Haa
Who ascended the throne today?
- Oh... You! You! You!
- Exactly
So, in honor of my coronation,
you must deliver
this special tax to Kuntala.
So, this isnt the usual tax?
No, not at all.
Then... is it an extra tax?
- No! It's not that.
- Huh?!
Not extra! The royal tax!
- Extra tax?
- Again!
- So... who all should I deliver it to?
- There is a list. -Hmm
- To whom
- Hmm
- First, to Maharaja Subuddhi of Kuntala.
- Hmm
- Then, to the Maharani.
- Hmm
- To the revered sage Galava.
- Hmm
And most importantly...
..to the chief minister Dushtabuddhi!
[LAUGHS AWKWARDLY]
Deliver these gifts properly!
Dont worry, Your Highness! I will make sure they receive it!
The brave Chandrahasa has sent forth his royal tax
The emissary takes it and rides swiftly
THE WEST FORT OF KUNTALA
To deliver what is due,
but who shall listen to his tales?
Salutations, O mighty, wise,
and ever-so-brilliant Dushtabuddhi!
Ay!
It's Salutations
May you be well
- Who offered greetings?
- I told you so, your highness
- And I just fixed what you said wrong.
- Ha! Ha! Ha!
Alright, alright. Just tell me
what brings you here.
- A grand salutation to you, Highness!
- Ay!
Oh!
Who are you?
We...
We ? As in who?
- We... from Chandanavati.
- Oh-ho!
Ah, Chandanavati!
- Yes, your highness
- What is this?
This is Kappa Kaanike (Tax Offering).
Kappa... what?
Tax offering
Tax offering?
Yes, Highness.
Have you lost your mind?
Do you smell something?
- Smell what?
- The stench of madness!
- Not that
- Huh
- I asked if you've lost your mind
- Who, me?
This tax offering, which is supposed
to be given annually
Huh
is suddenly here ahead of time. Why?
Well, its not the usual tax.
- Not an annual tax
- No
Oh? Then what kind of tax is this?
A special tax, Highness.
- Special tax?
- Yes
- A death?!
- What your highness?
- Is Kulinda passed away?
- What?!
What kind of loss?
Who died? When? Where? How?
- Why are you jumping to conclusions, Highness?
- Why?
Because it's a special tax...
- ..you speak of death
- Shut your mouth
Do you speak of my death?
- You?
- Yes
Sattsuddi (News of death)
I enquired the demise of Kulinda
- This...
- He's still alive, your highness
- Kulinda is alive
- Yes
He did not!
You mean to say that he should be died
- Nothing of that sort
- Huh
Him being alive,
I am not following the reason
for this special tax
Highness Kulinda has not passed away
Highness Kulinda stepped down
- Did Kulinda stepped down?
- Yes he did
And who has taken his place?
His son, Highness.
[LAUGHS]
Ay!
- He gave the throne to
- To his son
Are you even aware of whom you're talking to?
Of course, Highness.
: Do you think I dont know
about Kulindas family?
Which one?
His wife, Medhavini,
A barren land cant grow crops!
But, Highness, have you ever
seen a frog lay eggs?
Ah, so now barren rice fields
will sprout new crops?
And will the moon shine
on a new moon night?
ENOUGH!
Does a rabbit have horns?
- Can an elephant grow an extra leg?
- Shut up!
you're saying Kulinda did have children?
Well... not exactly his children, Highness.
- Messenger
- Forgive! Forgive!
- You mean two
- No your highness
- Shantamma-Paapamma (Seeking forgiveness)
- Forgiveness
Yes your hightness
My highness Kulinda is a faithful husband
You mean to say that he gained
interest over other women?
Nothing of that sort, your highness
Faithful to a single wife
Kulinda is a faithful
husband to a single wife
Yes
Then explain yourself
Let's just say... Kulinda had a unique way
of looking at the women of his kingdom.
I swear, if you continue talking like this,
I will break your bones!
Give it some thought
What's their to ponder over it?
I mean to say,
Kulinda had a unique way of looking
at the women but never tained by ill intent.
[SCOFFS]
- Kulinda is not into other women
- No your highness
Then disclose the truth to me
Huh
- How Kulinda got the son?
- You mean that
He has chosen the son as an heir
- You mean, Kulinda has not one son, rather...
- Huh
Well, Kulinda has many potential heirs
I mean to say because he has chosen
a found child as an heir.
Throne to a found child!!
- Kulinda found a child?
- Right
Where? When?
It's...
To mention that we have to head back
Come
- I didn't mean behind.
- Hmm
Around 10 to 16 years ago,
Your tale is not the current one
Is this a tale bumdleing back 10 to 16 years?
DENSE FOREST OF KUNTALA AND CHANDANAVATHI
- Kappadoota!
- Yes, Highness?
As the Ruler of Chandanavati,
Huh
I have led you all into
the wilderness for a hunt. -Yes
We have successfully completed
three rounds of hunting.
- Indeed, Highness.
- What to do?
Huh
But not a single beast
has shown itself to us.
The gods must be displeased.
I am clueless as to why gods
are displeased with us
Well, as they say, if the gods dont
bless you today, maybe tomorrow they will!
- What to do now?
- For now, let us rest.
Huh
We brought the meals with us
Yes, I have it
We shall eat, rest,
and prepare
for the next hunt.
A fine idea, Highness.
We had barely sat down to eat when suddenly
a lion roared in the distance!
- To roar and charge ahead,
- Narayana! Narayana!
Narayana!
yet filled with great fear,
the young boy trembled
Praying for Lord Hari
to resolve his troubles,
Narayana
He sought for Hari to remain
steadfastm in his heart.
Narayana
Is that true, O Lord with five faces?
Narayana!
Is that true, O Lord with five faces? A sound was heard, Highness! That sound made us get up.
Your Shraddha, Highness!
I'll do your Shraddha (death ritual)
if youre not careful!
Oh... your Sha...
- Oh, wait a minute...
- Yes
Just half a minute passed.
Sri Hari Narayana, Sri Hari Narayana!
What? Does Narayana have no other work
than arranging sarees
No... It's chanting of god's name
Oh!!! Chanting of god's name
- Sriman Narayana
- Yes
- So Kulindaappa said
- What?
- In the forest
- Hmm
He must be a child of a Nushi.
Nushi?!
- Nushi's children!
- Oh... you mean Rishi (sage) children!
We lied down assuming that
- But No
- What?
- Again, it happened!
- Hmm
Somebody Pakadi... Somebody Pakadi...
- Somebody Pakadi...
- Ay!
Ehy?!
You mean Somebody Kapadi (save me)!
- Do Raskane! (Somebody rescue me)
- Drat you!
Oh, you mean Rakshane (protection)!
Hmm
Thats why Kulindaappa said,
Somewhere, something has gone wrong.
- Narsi children!
- Hmm!
- Narsi children?!
- You mean Arasi (search) for children!
Exactly!
- Search and find them!
- Yes, Highness!
- We went on for a search
- Hmm
As the mighty ruler ventured into the forest,
Engaged in the thrill of a royal hunt
He beheld a helpless child
Rescued and embraced it with care.
The earth rejoiced, singing his praises.
- When we had a look at him..
- Huh!
Some wretched rogues
- They chopped,
- They chopped!!
A toe from left foot of that child.
That child's...
Left foot's one toe got cut off.
Drat!
Poor child
What?
What a pity! Poor child!
Who wouldnt feel pity for that?!
He is a small child!
Yes, Highness!
If one toe from the left foot got cut off,
That means..
Oh Poor boy!!
Really what a pity
Now that child has only four toes
on one foot, right?
No, Highness!
Then?
Now five plus five equals five, Highness!
Now it exactly balanced, five plus five.
Count this
Five
If one is removed, how many?
Four
On one foot, how many toes are there?
Five
If one is removed, how many?
Four
Then how can you still say five?
How much is this?
Thats six!
If one is removed, how many?
Five remains.
Then in the left leg,
one extra came, Highness!
A lone and weak young boy
wandered into the depths of the forest
- Hunting like a warrior, He looked at the child and smiled warmly
- Extra toe in the left leg.
There was an extra toe in left foot
That's right
- Six toes
- Yes, highness
Then what happened?
We gently carried the child
and returned to the palace
[VO] The child, taken into
the loving embrace of the Kulinda couple,
Began to grow, bearing the name Chandrahasa.
For education, he joined
the hermitage of Sage Kapila.
That means, he became a part of this Gurumatha.
He grew up with unparalleled excellence.
He mastered all sixty-four arts and became
a scholar in all disciplines and attained great wisdom,
Ascended the throne of Chandnavati
as the valiant Chandrahasa.
- The one who was found in the forest
- Yes!
- They cut off one of his fingers?
- Yes!
- They brought him in and gave him an education?
- Yes, Highness
And now that Chandrahasa has come of age,
they have crowned him in Chandnavati?
Yes!
Because of that.. [Pronounces wrongly]
Because of that [Corrects]
He gave this Teppada Pakka [Tax]
Ay!
[STUTTERS]
P...Ill slap you now.
Pattada Kappa(Royal Tax)!
Pa...Pa...
Ay!
"Pattada Kappa [Royal Tax]
Yes!
Take this and give Aasige [Blessings]
What?
Harsirvaad! [Blessings]
- Oh, you meant aashirvaad (blessings)?
- Yes, yes!
Blessings!! You are not even close to what you said.
[SMIRKS]
- I am very happy
- Yes, yes
Finally the arrangements were made
for that child. Thats it. - Yes, yes
Hearing all this makes me
feel full already.
- The royal tax is for us right!
- Ofcourse yes.
- Make sure you deposit this in the treasury.
- Sure.
- Then
- Ha.
Today, lets sit together and,
Have a grand feast. What do you say?
Ah... no, Highness
Why are you hesitating to eat?
- Is this our home, to be generous.!
- Meaning?
- We can only be generous in our own home.
- Why?
After all, if it remains, It's still in our house.
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
Alright! Come,
let's have some food at our place.
"Ah... No way!
Didnt you hear?
Today, its been said again and again
no eating, no eating, no eating!"
Ay!
Eat!
We have a Rata [Vrath] today.
- Rat?
- Hmm
- What kind of Rat is that?
- Ekadashi Rat[Vrath].
- Oh, Vrath (fasting)?
- Yes, exactly!
Ekadashi Vrath?
Yes! When our dear Chandappa
took the throne,
he ordered everyone to obay it.
He ordered it.
Oh, so it must be obayed.
Yes, Highness
And he even told us how to follow it.
How?
Today is your Tithi!
- Whose Tithi?
- [GASPS]
- Todays Tithi?
- Today is Ek...Doshi!
Ekadashi!
Yesterday was Dashami, Highness
Yesterday was Dashami.
Tomorrow is Do...Dosi!
- Dwadashi!
- Yes!
One meal on Dashami day.
One meal on Dashami.
On Ekadoshi day,
Neer Haara! (Dive into Water)
Go Die, why should I care?
- Nir Haara
Nirahara (Fasting)!
You cant even touch anything.
- Cant eat anything.
- Exactly!
- But if needed
- Huh
just a little
- What kind?
- Chulchi Theerta
Drat!
Tulasi Teertha! ((Holy Basil Water)!
[LAUGHS]
- Hey!
- Dont laugh, Highness
- Why? Dont I have the freedom to laugh?
- It's not like that, your Highness
When you laugh, your face looks
like a mighty dead lion!
Don't you remember
what a living lion looks like?
Highness, Ive never seen a living lion.
[LAUGHS]
So, because of this Ekadashi fast,
you wont eat with us today?
That's the only reason stoping me,
Your Highness
- Not because you dislike us?
- Never, Highness
Very well!
After hearing all this,
I feel like visiting Chandanavati.
- Come and take a look!
- Meaning?
Youll see how much progress has been made!
- Progress?
- Yes, Highness
- I will come to see.
- Please do, Highness.
You stay here today,
and tomorrow have a lunch before leaving.
- The mind wavers, burdened by the act committed
- Ha... ha... Your wish, highness! -Alrigt.
A child abandoned in the forest
what fate awaits the innocent?
Astonishing to behold
My son, Chandrahasa.
My son
may the blessings of Goddess Kolhapur
Ambika always be upon you.
Dear child, you seem worried today.
What happened?
Won't you share it with me?
A ruler who wears the crown
must bear its burdens.
Similarly, I was reflecting on the responsibility
you entrusted to me the other day, Mother
- My child
- Mother
You displayed your strength before
the feudal lords and emerged victorious
Hmm.
You earned your title through
your merit, my son.
Hmm.
Seeing that, this mother's heart
is filled with pride, my son.
- Yes
- But remember, my child,
Claiming the throne is not
the greatest challenge
Safeguarding what has been gained is..
You know why?..
If you ever lose yourself in power, arrogance,
you may lose a hundredfold
of what you have gained.
So, my wish is that no matter what happens,
You must always uphold the honour
and prestige of Kuntala.
Likewise, you must protect
our Chandanavati, my son.
Yes, You have to protect, my son.
Anala!
Your Highness
Did you hear what the
Tax Messenger said?
I heard everything, indeed.
There is an uncanny resemblance between
what he said today and the events of the past.
If so, did those bandits
deceived me in the end?
- It could be possible.
- Did Chandrahasa survive?!
- Suspicious, indeed!
- The truth must be uncovered at any cost!
Hmm.
- Anala!
- Highness!
Make arrangements to leave
for Chandanavati at the earliest. Go!
As you command!
Mother, with your blessings,
I have mastered all forms of knowledge.
As the saying goes,
Courage is the key to all achievements,
I have earned the title
of Veera Chandrahasa.
Chandrahasa!
Chandrahasa!
You should have been
climbing the gallows,
Instead, ascended the throne
of Chandanavati?
If I let this go,
there is no doubt that you will overthrow me
and become the sovereign of Kuntala!
This Chandrahasa wields his strength
only for truth and righteousness.
The one who has overturned all my efforts,
The very thorn in my flesh,
O wretched imposter!
You dare to strike the doors of fate itself
Oh, wretched being of misfortune!
The earth may tremble,
the oceans may rise in turmoil,
But sacrificing my breath for truth
brings joy to my soul.
Even if my head is severed for
the protection of this land,
I will embrace death as a warriors honor!
No!
Until I play with your severed head,
This Dushtabuddhi will find no rest!
No rest at all!
My thirst for the throne of Kuntala
To my sword...
..your blood is the only fuel to quench it!
If ever a time comes
when I must lose my head,
I will first behead the wicked and
quench the thirst of Mother Earth!
This Chandrahasa!
Did the words of the Brahmajnani
turned out to be true?
WEST FORT OF KUNTALA
If Chandrahasa has indeed ascended
the throne of Chandanavati,
I will soon see to it that
his neck shatters by my own hands!
Buddhi, why do you let your anger consume you so?
The evil minister, Dushtabuddhi, ascended the chariot of doom,
The evil minister, Dushtabuddhi, ascended the chariot of doom,
CHANDANAVATHI
- His deceitful ways, locked in his own heart, unable to be opened.
- [CHANTING MANTRA] Om namo Narayanaya namaha
The moonlit heart, which transformed into a divine realm.Kuntala's minister Dushtabuddhi is arriving at Chandanavati's court
THE ROYAL COURT OF CHANDANAVATHI
Woah!
Ahh! What a strange thing, Kulinda.
You are the feudal lord
of Kuntala, arent you?"
What arrangements are being made here?
I am confused whether I have come
to Chandanavati or Amaravati.
- To say that--
- It seems like youve got a son
Yes, yes
- Whats his name?
- Chandrahasa.
Ah! Chandrahasa.
After hearing about this,
I couldn't wait any longer.
- I came here to meet Chandrahasa and finish him soon
- Ha...!! Finish him? What do you mean?
- I came here to wrap up the situation by meeting him.
- Ministers like you are all caught up in political matters.
Thats why we must finish this and move on.
- Im very happy.
- Where is your prince?
He will be here soon
You there.
Go and call for Chandrahasa.
[CHANTING MANTRA] Om namo narayanaya namaha
Om namo--
Excuse me, Prince..
What is it?
Highness has asked you to visit
the court urgently
Alright, I will
Oh ho! I offer my respects to
the minister of Kuntala, Dushtabuddhi.
How charming!
From head to toe,
from toe to head, sheer elegance!
[LAUGHS]
Just as your name suggests,
you truly are Chandrahasa.
[GASPS]
[GASPS]
Indeed, Chandrahasa!
[LAUGHS]
Such a sweet and innocent face.
[LAUGHS]
[GASPS]
Oh no!
- Oh no!
- What happened?
- Oh nooo!
- What happened, great minister?
Tell me, what happened, Minister?!
This is a crucial political matter!
I completely forgot to inform
my son, Madana, about it.
Oh no!
Everything has gone wrong!"
Tch! I must leave for Kuntala immediately!
Guruji, so has Dushtabuddhi left from there?
No.
Dushtabuddhi is not someone
who acts without a strategy.
He counters deceit with
even greater deceit.
No need, leave it! I will go to Kuntala
myself and make the necessary arrangements.
- Honorable Minister!
- What is it?
- A humble request.
- What request?
Please do not consider me disrespectful
for speaking while my elders are conversing.
Hmm.
If you agree,
I will go there instead of you.
[LAUGHS]
Well, well! What a bold statement!
Indeed! I was thinking the same.
If you went, that would be even better.
After all, you are a king.
How can I ask such things outright to a king?
After all, he once held
the position of a minister.
If you have already made up
your mind to leave,
then I shall personally send you.
- But first, do something, Chandrahasa.
- What is it?
- Prepare to leave. Okay.!
- Sure.
- I will write a letter and hand it to you.
- Alright
- Father.
- Yes, my son?
- I'll be in preparation for my journey.
- Make all the necessary arrangements.
Bless me.
ROYAL GUEST HOUSE OF CHANDANAVATHI
Command me, Highness
Chandrahasa has set out
from Chandanavati to Kuntala.
If he reaches there,
the minister might change his mind,
and then either Madana
will ascend the throne,
or Chandrahasa will
But my plan, strategy...
is entirely different.
For that, you must carry out
a task on my behalf.
Chandrahasa has already
departed, hasn't he?
Hm-hmm
Burning with the flames
of Gominis greed
Burning with the flames
of Gominis greed
Somahasas fate is woven by destiny.
Command me!
Hey!
[SIGNALLING TO COME]
If you carry out the task
exactly as I instructed,
You will have a life time settlement
If you fail...
..your own life will be settled in hell.
[LAUGHS]
We understand very well what will happen
if the task is not completed.
Command me! Your highness.
Ahaha!
There is no need for anyone to be worried.
ROYAL COURT OF MADANA RAYAOF KUNTALA
Do you know the mighty Kanteerava?
Do you, gentlemen?
Some say it was Dushtabuddhi who held
that position in Kuntala.
But his time is over!
Now that I am here, think carefully
and realize who has arrived
Madanaraya himself!
Just as you all supported
my father until now,
I only ask that you extend
the same support to me.
I have taken charge!
If there is anything special or any problem,
feel free to bring it to me.
- Prince
- Huh
Unemployment is a major issue
troubling our Kuntala Kingdom.
We seek your solution for this.
Unemployment is not
just in Kuntala, but everywhere!
I have a brilliant idea for this problem.
Do one thing
- Close all the wells in the town!
- [GASPS IN UNISON]
Dont panic! Dont worry!
People will still need
water to drink, wont they?
Instead of thinking too much, just dig
another well next to the closed one!
Look, this plan provides employment twice
One group will be employed
to close the wells,
and another to dig new ones.
There! The unemployment problem is solved.
Isnt my idea brilliant?
Yes, this is a great plan!
I will introduce many such schemes
during my reign!
You all must wait for me.
I have some important work
and will return soon
Until then, wait for me! Understood?
Right now, at least he managed to exit
in the right direction of the court
Hmm
I swear to God!
But when it's time for him to return,
I have no faith that he will return.
Huh.
This is not just a letter written
by Dushtabuddhi to Chandrahasa
ROYAL GUEST HOUSE OF CHANDANAVATHI
It is a direct message from Yama
(the god of death) to Chandrahasa.
Call Chandrahasa to come here.
He is on his way.
Cruel-minded Veera Simhas
thirst for power
THE ABODE OF VEERA SIMHA IN KALYANI
Cruel-minded Veera Simhas
thirst for power
Joins hands with Analas betrayal.
Where will the deceitful one end up?
Why do the earth and
the sky shelter such conspirators?
Chandrahasa!
[LAUGHS]
- I have written Chandrahasas fate
in this letter.
Is that so?
The one who writes
his destiny is not Brahma
- It is this Dushtabuddhi!
- Absolutely
[LAUGHS]
- Minister, I offer you my respect.
- Ha ha ha! Chandrahasa,
Are you well prepared for your journey?
I have made all the necessary arrangements.
I have mentioned an important
political matter in this letter.
Huh.
You must take it to Kuntala.
My son, Madana, is there
in the royal palace.
No one should know about this
Summon him alone and hand over this letter
Once you do that, your duty
is complete, Chandrahaasa
Your journey is complete
Now, go.
- Minister
- Hmm
I humbly accept this duty
and will proceed as instructed.
Hmm.
I shall return once the task is done.
- Come back soon.
- Namo Namah!
Go.
[LAUGHS]
He has no idea where he is headed.
Like a nephew walking straight
into his uncles trap!
- And where is he headed?
- Where?
To the lair of his executioner!
And he doesnt even know it!
Go, Chandrahasa.
- Let him go!
- Go!
Let him go!
Go to a place from where
there is no return!
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
[VOCALIZING]
[LAUGHS]
[VOCALIZING]
[VOCALIZING]
[VOCABLES]
CHANDRAHASA AND HIS FRIEND'S JOURNEY THROUGH THE FOREST TO KUNTALA
- My friend
- Yes?
- We've just began our journey from Chandanaavati,
- Yes
- The great minister Dushtabuddhi
- Yes
He instructed us to go to Kuntala
and deliver this letter, didnt he? -Yes
DENSE FOREST OF KUNTALA AND CHANDANAVATHI
- And now, we have left that place behind.
- Yes
Look, it is the middle of the night.
- Yes
- We are in a dense forest.
- Someone has lit a fire here for us?
- That's true.
Let us rest here for a while
before we continue our journey.
Yes
In the meantime,
fetch some water for our horse.
- As you command, my lord.
- Go on
As you command, my friend
Under the shade of the
tree, Chandrahasa rests
Upon his chest, the
divine consort stands.
Who can truly understand
the king's grand play?
Will he be trapped, the one
who has been blessed by the grace of Lord Hari?
What unfolds next in the tale?
What more is there to say?
[GROANS]
Narayana!
Like the fire of
destruction, the fierce wind
Like the fire of
destruction, the fierce wind
Like the roaring thunder
and flashing lightning
Like the roaring thunder
and flashing lightning
Like the radiant sun
with its million rays
A warrior rose upon the earth
A sight beyond comprehension,
a marvel untold!
A sight beyond comprehension,
a marvel untold!
Amidst the wicked
schemes of the vile beast
The fearless warrior stood unwavering
As arrows rained and the battle raged
He swiftly raised the serpent-weapon
Surrendering to Hari (Vishnu).
Unleashing supreme heroism in his fight.
Veera Chandrahasa!
Veera Chandrahasa!
Veera Chandrahasa!
Veera Chandrahasa!
Veera Chandrahasa!
JOURNEY OF CHANDRAHASA WITH HIS FRIEND TOWARDS KUNTALA
Oh Shashihasa, rest along with your companion, on the way to Kuntala
Riding swiftly on
a galloping horse with joy.
Oh, the lotus-eyed daughter
of the wise minister,
The embodiment of grace,
adorned in royal splendor.
- Poets sing praises of your beauty
- How do I look?
O charming moon-faced Vishaye!
SUBSECTION OF KUNTALA PALACE
[GIGGLES IN UNISON]
Poets sing praises of your beauty,
O charming moon-faced Vishaye!
Your slender waist like a five-hooded serpent, queen's procession
Your voice as sweet as the call of a nightingale.
[GIGGLES]
O playful, restless-eyed maiden, Like a lightning flash in the royal garden.
Where are you all going? Come here quickly, come fast!
KOTE NARASIMHA SWAMI TEMPLE, KUNTALA
The writings of destiny unfold, ho can truly understand the ways of the world?
The writings of destiny unfold,
ho can truly understand the ways of the world?
Seek refuge in Madhava
- And surrender to Kuntala.
- My friend. -Yes, my friend
- Do you see it?
- Look at the temple
Huh.
- Which temple is this?
- Hmm
- The one I worship
- Hmm
- The temple of Lord Srimannarayana.
- Yes, indeed.
- But not just that.
- Hmm.
- If you observe carefully.
- Hmm.
The puja has already been completed,
- The puja has already been completed
- Yes, that's true
- That means we too should seek
the Lords blessings, shouldn't we? -Absolutely.
Come, lets go.
- Salutations to Krishna, the son of Vasudev
- Look, my friend! -I am looking.
- The beloved child of Devaki
- The way this temple has been built. -Hmm.
The dear son of Nanda Gopa
It seems as if the Lord himself has descended to Earth!
- Doesn't it feel so, my friend?
- Yes, it truly does
Observe closely
O Lord, you have protected me so far.
May your blessings always be upon me
- My friend
- Yes my friend
- Did you see?
- I am still looking
When I see this temple,
It fills the heart with immense joy
Anyone would feel the same
- Not just this temple.
- Not at all.
- We also witnessed the beautiful gardens around.
- What a free beauty!
- The beauty of your karma
- No, my friend, isnt it that?
- Not that!
- Hmm
- Natures Beauty
- Its impossible to see!
- My friend
- Yes my friend.
- When you look at this temple
- When I look at it?
It appears so majestic and unique
- We have traveled a long way
- Yes, we have
- I am exhausted
- Hmm
I need to rest for a while
I will rest here
- Our horses need food
- That way.
- Make proper arrangements for water as well
- Yes, I will
Which is the royal route to Kuntala?
I will find the way and return shortly
Return as soon as possible
- Until then, you should rest here
- Agreed.
- Dont change your resting spot.
- I will stay here... agreed.
- Otherwise, it will be difficult
for me to find you again. - Alright.
Laid down the sheets to sleep and rest
Sleep smiling in the depth of eyes
Life is a foundation of countless questions
Fate has planted its roots
with an unknown name
[VOCABLES]
Seeing him, she is filled with joy
[VOCABLES]
Oh my!
What a wonder!
Leaving all my companions behind
and coming to the temple alone,
what a good decision I've made!
I had already felt on my way here,
that something auspicious
was about to happen today.
And now, I see him!
Ah! Seeing him feels as if
I am looking at a royal prince.
Who could he be?
But what do I have to do with him?
Still... why do I feel this way
when I look at him?
Ah... Now I understand!
Who else could he be...?
It must be him
Overwhelmed by the feelings in her heart
[VOCABLES]
With joyful excitement in my heart
She hesitates as she walks towards him
[VOCABLES]
Blushing, stepping back,
then coming forward again
Unsure of how to contain her emotions
[VOCABLES]
She quickly moves forward once more.
Overwhelmed by the feelings in her heart
She hesitates as she walks towards him
Oh my!
Why do I feel this way when I see him?
I want to keep looking at him
I want to talk to him... but how?
What he gets angry if I wake him up?
Why is he not waking up?
I must get to know him!
Wait...
No one is watching.
Oh!
This might help me learn more about him.
But what is that bundle
wrapped in the cloth?
Whose fathers bundle could it be?
Why should I care?
All I want is to know more about him.
Let me have a quick look at it.
- It may contain something useful
With excitement in her heart
She picks up the letter
- Unaware of the fate written in it.
- Any work is fine, But not stealing.
At first, I thought it was just
some random fathers scroll
So, it wasnt just any random scroll after all.
Its my fathers!
What belongs to a father
naturally belongs to his children
Let me open it and see
what has he written?
Huh?!
Oh no!
Oh!
Oh no... my fathers handwriting looks
like black crows walking across a white sheet
My father lack none,
What has he written?
Respected minister Dushtabuddhi...
Has assigned his son Madana with a task
To eliminate Chandrahasa
Didn't I say so?
Even the moon should blush when it sees his smile,
Chandrahasa
His face and the smile on his lips,
Name is adequately syncs down
... I bow to you Lord Brahma for creating
such beauty in him!
This man should not be underestimated.
The king must not doubt my loyalty.
He must be given poison to enchant him
before sending him away?
To enchant him before sending him away?
He must be given V-V [STUTTER]
Poison
Poison
He must be given poison to enchant him
before sending him away
But how it can be possible.!?
After consuming poison,
Can there be continuous progress?
Cremation will follow!
What's wrong with my father?
And he wrote this letter to my brother.!
If my brother Madana
had received this letter first,
Poor Chandrahasa would
have already been dead!
Brother wouldn't have pondered over
What should I do now?
This is disastrous!
But wait.
Now I understood.
There is just a single mistake
in this letter.
Father must have written this in haste.
I must correct it.
How do I change it?
Hmm-Hmm
Haa!
This wont work, I need something finer
Ah!
Ill use my own kohl to adjust the ink
Instead of 'Visha' (Poison),
Ill change it to 'Vishaye' (Her name).
It's done.
Huh!
Without delay, observe his lineage,
bravery, and virtues, And offer Vishaye to him,
Vishaye! Vishaye!
enchanting him like magic!
The work is done!
Come sooner, Chandrahasa!
Ill be waiting!
[GIGGLES]
Chandrahaasa! Chandrahaasa!
[VOCABLES]
My friend Chandrahasa,
Are you still asleep?
My friend, I just dozed off for a while to get some rest. .
It seems like you forgot
about the whole world!
- But I couldn't realize
how much time had passed. - Hmm
- We set out for...
- Hmm
- Kuntala Nadu!
- Yes, thats right.
- We must leave as soon as possible.
- I have already scouted the path.
- Come with me.
- May the blessings of the Almighty always be upon you
- Come, my friend.
- Lets go!
Everything unfolds as per
the will of the Divine
WEST FORT OF KUNTALA
- In His grand play, we are but mere characters
- Where have you come from?
- In His grand play, we are but mere characters
- From Chandanavati.
Bound by fate, entwined by love
ROYAL COURT OF MADANA RAYA OF KUNTALA
- This is the divine knot-mysterious and profound
- Ha ha ha! Right this way.. Come, come!
Here is your seat,
please be seated!
What kind of etiquette is this?
Oh! I forgot!
I havent even greeted you yet.
First of all, my respects to you!
More greeting to you.
We have a special
style of greetings here!
Oh? Is this how everyone
greets in your land?
Not everyone... just me! By the way
Who are you?
- You dont know me?
- Not at all.
I am Chandrahasa.
Chandrahasa... who?
From Chandanavati.
Chandrahasa... Chandrahasa...
Never heard before.
Perhaps you are not that famous as I am?
- Oye
- Hmm
- Your name is popular in your town.
- Ha
And I am famous in mine.
But right now, in this
city, I am only famous!
- Oh, is that so?
- Yes
Anyway,
no need to say anything more.
- Ive already figured it out!
- What do you mean?
- You look somewhat similar to me.
- Ha
- Seems like you crossed path with my father.
- Ha ha!
- He must have said!
- What?
Oh, you! You good-for-nothing!
You lazy lump! You hopeless fool
''Where have you been?!''
''Get back to your place.''
- You came here directly, isn't it?
- Imbecile!
Does your father call you by all these names?
Thats how he blesses me!
- Ha ha!
- Yes
Anyway, I have come here with a purpose.
There, upon the royal throne,
sits the son Madanaraya.
Thats me! Thats me!
I was sent here to deliver
a confidential letter to you.
- Oh? Really?
- Yes, he did.
- Alright... where is it?
- Right here.
Aah!!
This is the secret
letter sent by your father
Very well! Very well!
Who's there?
Yes, my lord!
- Take him to the third floor
- Hmm
Eighth corner
Lock him up,
and station four guards with swords outside!
- Madanaraya!
- Huh?
- What is the meaning of this?
- What?
What mistake have I made?
You are ordering four armed
guards to stand outside my room?
- Oh, no! Thats for your protection!
- Oh, how thoughtful(!)
- Of course!
- Hmm.
- Third floor.
- Hmm.
- Room number four-hundred and twenty.
- Wait, what?
- Just go straight!
- Hmm.
Take a right and look up!
I will find it at the top
- Youll find it there!
- Fine.
Huh.
To the esteemed minister of wisdom, Srimad
Ohho... Wah ,Wah, Ahhaa
[LAUGHS]
At last, this year, Now my father sees me
among the revered royal members.
Otherwise My father would never have written such a formal letter adorned with words of praise.
Srimad Minister of Wisdom
If he has written with such formalities.
Lets see.
Srimad Minister of Wisdom, Dushtabuddhi
Ugh! That man!
He is boasting himself
Fine!!!
Those ministers and their nonsense formalities!
CHANDANAVATHI GUEST HOUSE
O noble minister, Dushtabuddhi, With great intent, has wished for an auspicious alliance
O noble minister, Dushtabuddhi, With great
intent, has wished for an auspicious alliance
Blessing Madanaraya with prosperity and happiness.
With no hesitation, he has made a firm decision,
For the well-being of his daughter,
And now, as fate has ordained
Chandrahasa shall be our kin!
Without delay, observe his lineage,
bravery, and virtues, And offer Vishaye to him,
A-ha!
This is unexpected!
It means...
My father has decided to wed
my sister to this young man without delay.
What should I do?
No! I must act swiftly!
After all,
I hold the responsibility
of my elder brothers place.
I should think before I decide
Call the Brahmajnani!
Call the Brahmajnani immediately!
[CHANTING MANTRA]
- Respected Brahmajnani!
- [CHANTING MANTRA]
Brahmajnani!
Brahmajnani!
Eh... Eh... Eh
G-get up, get up, get up, get up, get up!
- Brahmajnani.
- What is it?
Is this some kind of game?
- You called me in such
urgency, so I rushed here. - Yes
But now, you are playing around!
- Not at all, Brahmajnani!
- Hmm.
I was merely attempting
a respectful prostration!
- A full prostration?
- Yes
But it seems like you're pulling my leg instead,
not a full prostration.
- Brahmajnani, do you take me for a fool?
- No, no!
- Hence.
- Hmm.
Huh.
As quickly as possible,
In your presence, under your authority,
under your leadership, under your guidance
Huh... Thats all same.
Is it so?
- You said under my authority, right?
- Yes.
Many marriages have taken
place under my authority
but shouldnt I at least know for whom?
- Ah... Ah... Even you dont know about this matter?
- Hmm.
- This is not a lie... My father departed the other day.
- [GASPS]
Oh no!
He wasnt that old compared to me!
No, no, no.
- But I never imagined
something like this would happen. - Hmm
- By the time I came to know, it was already too late!
- Yes, indeed.
- At least I got to know after some time.
- Definitely.
Lets observe a five-second silence.
- Hmm?
- Brahmajnani.
- Should I also observe silence?
- Yes.
Your father passed away, right?
Dont blabber anything, Brahmajnani.
He might come back!
He never gets down.
No, its not that
Then what did you just said?
What did I say?
You yourself said that
your father passed away!
No, Brahmajnani, thats not what I meant!
Hmm.
- My father departed...
- Hmm
..to Chandanavati!
You should've said that properly!
When you just said, "he departed,"
What else was I supposed to understand?
No, no, Brahmajnani.
He left for Chandanavati and sent a letter
Oh, really?
The matter is this
[MUMBLING]
I didnt understand a thing.
What do you mean?
[MIMICKING]
- What is this?
- What happened?
Are you chanting a mantra
or memorizing something?
Not at all, Brahmajnani.
Then?
- The matter is simple.
- How simple?
The message is to marry my sister
Vishaye, to the messenger who delivered it.
What?
- Why?
- So, your father sent this proposal?
Yes, yes, yes!
Your father is over 60 now.
- Hes getting a bit senile!
- Hmm
- But are you completely out of your mind?
- What now?
Are you seriously planning to marry
off your sister to a mere messenger?
- Not at all, Brahmajnani!
- Then what is it?
- That is not what I meant.
- What else then?
Brahmajnani, he is not just a messenger
who delivers letters from house to house.
He is Chandanavatis king, Chandrahasa.
The ruler of that kingdom?
- Yes, The ruler.
- Then this is a grand alliance!
Hmm.
Alright... but does the groom
even know about the marriage?
No, my father didnt inform him.
Then this wedding cannot happen this year.
Huh?
- What happened?
- What is this!!?
If the groom doesnt even
know he is getting married... - Hmm
How can we conduct the marriage?
We'll just tell him.
Where is he?
He is on the third floor, in room 420.
- Isnt that your fathers room?
- Yes.
You let him there?
I allowed him to stay so that the
guests wouldnt feel uncomfortable
- What a noble heart you have!
- Yes, right?
Alright, bring him here.
Call Chandrahasa here.
First, lets observe him,
then we will discuss.
- No problem with that
- Greetings.
- Greet Brahmajnani
- Greetings, Brahmajnani!
May you be blessed.
- Him?!
Toe of the feet
Remembering the child
[GASPS]
To learn the identity
[VOCABLES]
You seem familiar. Have we met before?
Brahmajnani!
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
- Groom.. Groom.
- Its him... its him.
Ah! This boy! This boy!
- What is that?
- What happened?
Brahmajnani... he doesnt know!
[LAUGHS IN UNISON]
- He?
- Doesn't know.
Yes, he doesnt know about it!
Why doesnt he know?
Because you didn't tell him!
Tell him that first.
And wipe that stupid laughter off your face
Madanaraya, have you
finished reading the letter?
Yes, but after reading it, this happened!
If you've read it, just tell me the
response, and Ill be on my way.
Exactly! Thats why its difficult
for you to answer right away.
- Although.
- Yes
Yes, yes!
Let me make it clear for you.
The message is about my sister Vishaye,
and we've decided to marry her to you.
- But he said it was a secret letter?
- Yes
And secrets must be read in private, right?
Yes, of course.
But now youre talking about
marrying your sister to me?
- Madana!
- Yes?
He is not wrong.
He is thinking carefully before deciding.
What do you mean?
A ministers daughter is not something you
can just put up for sale at a marketplace!
Hmm.
- Maybe she is like this!
- Oh, dear god!
He was wondering if you were
sending him a defective bride!
Hes not wrong in thinking that
Just like the saying of the wise..
True, the wise have said many things,
Just tell me what you are about to say?
Anumanam! (Doubt!)

Peddarogam! (A disease of fools!)

Give it!
It cannot be given,
just as I said!
But shes my sister, right? My sister!
- But shes my sister, right? My sister!
- Yes... yes, indeed!
So, after seeing me, there is no need to see my sister.
She, too, has her own... unique charm!
What do you mean?
Exactly what it sounds like!
Brahmajnani, I don't wat marriage. Let me leave?
Hey!
You wait, Don't make a fuss
We will resolve this properly.
What is the real issue?
No issue!
Just like how two dolls made
from the same mold look alike,
My sister and I also share a resemblance.
But there is a difference... in gender!
- Ah! Now I understand.
- So, do you get it now?
Now that you understand,
why is he doubtful?
He wants to see the bride.
- Oh, Is that so...
- Indeed.
- whats the harm in showing her?
- No arguments now!
You come this way
- Please sit here.
- Fine, fine
Now, I shall show you!
Call Vishaye!
Princess Vishaye, Madanaraya
has summoned you to the court.
Brother, why did you call me?
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
Respected Brahmajnani is here!
- My salutations, Revered Brahmajnani
- Bless you well
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
[INTONING] Sister!
- Brahmajnani, what's wrong?
- What is this?
Nothing much, Brahmajnani,
- I just called out, Oh dear sister!
- So lovingly, Oh dear sister!
Yes, yes!
Now, tell her the matter.
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
Marriage! Marriage! Marriage! Marriage!
- Marriage?
- Yes
Really?!
Brother, how is she? Is she slim? Fat?
As dark as Brahmajnanis wife?
Or as fair as me?
How is my sister-in-law?
- My wife? How is she?
- She is dark!
When did you see her?
The other day at the temple.
You were walking with her, werent you?
- That was not my wife!
- Then who?
She was my assistant.
Brahmajnani,
[HUMMING TUNE]
why were you walking around
the temple with your assistant?
It was for work!
- Oh... Sister
- But tell me, how is my sister-in-law?
The marriage isnt for me!
Then?
The marriage is for you!
- For me?!
- Yes!
- I dont want it so soon!
- She says no!, Brahmajnani
Hmm... If she were ten or
twenty years older, maybe
- Thats what I mean!
- But then?
Father isnt here, right?
Sister, the marriage isnt for father!
Its for you!
Sister!
Ah!
Why do you keep talking about father?
That's right.
The wise have spoken
much about this, sister
Well, the wise say many
things... Tell me what you are about to say?
Jyeshta Bhrata
[INTONING] Brother!
- That word just wont come
out of your mouth, will it? -Meaning?
Its not Pir Pir! Its Pitru
Samaan! (Father Like)
She still doesnt even know
who the groom is! Shes confused!
Alright then
sister! Come here
Ill show you!
The groom, right?
Look there! There! There! There!
Look at that majestic beauty!
Just looking at him,
two eyes are not enough!
Two eyes are not enough!
Two eyes are not enough!
- Such a broad chest.
- Brother!
- A strong, sturdy build!
- Brother!
A royal walk!
Ahh!
He is a sight to behold!
Sister!
you must have done great deeds
in your past life to marry such a man!
Brother, What happened to you?
How... How can I marry him?!
Ill go tell father that I
dont want to get married!
- Brahmajnani.
- Hmm
Why are you standing there?
I was just thinking...
I was supposed to show
her the groom, right?
- The groom?
- Yes.
Where?
I don't want him
Oh... The groom was right here!
I was thinking about him.
- I will show her the man.
- Show her.
- Sister
- Hmm
It's not him
There, there
The fish-eyed one glanced,
A dream blossomed in her fish-like eyes,
In the depths of her thoughts
What is it?
- Brahmajnani.
- Hmm
God is great, Brahmajnani.
He is always great. God never deceives.
- Thats not what I meant, Brahmajnani.
- Then what?
- "Honor was lost, but
dignity remained, Brahmajnani."
What are you trying to say now?
- Strengthen your heart, Brahmajnani.
- Hmm... My heart is always strong.
- My sister
- Sister?
She ran away before
the wedding, Brahmajnani!
Huh... Now the story is ruined!
- Meaning?
- I thought you were saying something else.
What happened?
The wedding... She didnt
run away after the wedding,
- she ran before it!
- Yes.
Oh... So, she ran away willingly, did she?
She just did.
She blushed deeply and ran away upon seeing the groom. Didn't she?
Ha... Ha... Ha.
- And what does that mean?
- What?
Silence is the sign of acceptance.
So...
- Theres no point in delaying any further.
- Right.
Should do it symbolically.
- Symbolically?
- Yes.
Yes, today evening,
we will conduct a symbolic wedding.
Make all the necessary arrangements.
- Now, lets rest.
- Alright.
Huh.
Come, come, come, come, come, come, come.
- Has the countdown begun, has the noose tightened?
- Your Highness! when you touch fire, it burns your hand.
I wonder how many will be consumed in the fire of your hatred.
Has the mighty fish been caught?
I had expected that wretched Chandrahasa to have fallen by now.
Or has it slipped away with the winds of fate?
Hmm.
- But.
- Hmm.
There is still no news of Chandrahasa,
who left for Kuntala.
Don't stress so much over that thought
Why are you in such a hurry?
If he somehow reads the letter.
- And then?
- The secret will be exposed.
- Hmm
- The noose that was meant for him.
Hmm.
will find its way around my neck instead.
[LAUGHS]
- Your Highness!!
- Hmm
Why are you so restless?
Just because a woman is pregnant,
can you immediately tell whether
the child will be a boy or a girl?
No. You must wait for nine months.
One must wait for birth,
but there is no need to wait for death.
Well said.
- The death of Chandrahasa!
- Hmm.
From the hands of Dushtabuddhi!
Hmm.
And no force, not even fate, can save him.
Guruji
That Dushtabuddhi was eagerly waiting to
hear news of Chandrahasas death, wasnt he?
: But on the other side, Madana was busy
preparing for his sisters wedding, wasnt he?
Someone,
bring the bride after
adorning her beautifully!
- Alright, alright!
- Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
- Madana!
- Yes, Brahmajnani?
You have the only sister, right?
- Yes.
- Then who is this?
- Oh, her?
- Respected Brahmajnani.
Huh.
Do you think I am a dog
to summoned like that.
I asked for the bride to be
brought, and suddenly she appeared!
What is this.......like a welcome doll?
- No, no, Brahmajnani.
- Then?
That is just her way of her greeting.
- Oh, is that so?
- You want to know who she is, right?
Yes.
She belongs to our household.
Hmm...
: She is the one who
does my sisters hairstyling.
: But if you say she belongs to your
household, that could mean something else too!
- Oh, is that so?
- Yes.
What did I ask for?
- What?
- I asked for the bride to be brought!
- Yes.
- Are you the bride?
Then?
Looking at you, you seem like a mother
of four children rather than a young bride!
Ah! Ha... Ha...
I asked for an unmarried
bride, not someone else!
Oh, I see!
- Now, go bring the actual bride quickly!
- Alright.
Everything must be arranged properly
Of course
- even if its a symbolic wedding
- If so.
- no one should face any trouble, understood?
- Yes, yes
Yes.
Now, bring the bride! Bring the bride!
Ha... bring her, bring her!
Have you completed all
the bridal adornments?
Good, now rise, may this
be an auspicious moment.
Come here!
- Now, theres no time to delay.
- Hmm.
The auspicious moment is approaching!
Exchange the garlands.
- Hey!
- Brahmajnani
why are you looking here
and there? Look at this!
What?
- Oh... what a disaster!
- Alas!
Am I at a wedding, or have I landed
in a carnival? I cant even tell anymore!
- Brahmajnani?
- What now?
- At first, I was jumping really well!
- Hmm
But now, I just cant do it anymore.
- Thats how it is.
- Hmm.
I always say-if you jump
too high the first time,
you wont be able to jump again later.
I asked for flower garland
Flower garland?
[GROANS]
The auspicious time is here! Be cautious!
The sacred moment is here!
Look at each other and exchange garlands.
Slowly... slowly... take your time
That's it.
Have you exchanged?
Oh my! The wedding is done!
- What is it?
- But the wedding is completed, right?
No... no... the wedding is
not over yet, my dear child.
- What?
- There is still something left to do
What is left now?
- The most important ritual
has not been completed yet.
Which one?
Tali (Nupital chain)
Oh no, Brahmajnani
If we delay any further, people
will start climbing over each other!
Well, arent you always doing that?
If everything is over and you still say Tali,
Tali, whats left to endure, Brahmajnani?
- My dear Madana!
- Hmm
- Not that Tali!
- Then?
Nupital chain, Karimani (black pearl necklace)
- Not Karmani, Karimani!
- Not Karmani
- Karimani
- Yes Karimani
Where is it?
I had said that all arrangements
were in your hands.
- Is that so?
- Yes.
- You said you arranged everything, right?
- Yes.
- And I agreed, right?
- Yes.
I had gone to the well
for a bath, my dear Madana,
Did I forget everything there?
Did I leave everything behind?
Ah!
- Its right here, Madana!
- Right here?
- So, it wasnt my mistake after all!
- Hmm.
- Now, whatever is in our
hands, lets proceed with it. -Oh!
Now, hold the sacred grains in your hands.
You, come forward.
Hold it.
[CHANTING WEDDING MANTRA]
Tie the nupital chain
In his dream within a dream
he sees a severed head rolling,
blood spilling everywhere.
- Did the cold moonshine gone awry?
- Why? Why?
Why are you leaving me?
I need the treasure! Dont go! Dont go!
Ah... May you both live a long, happy life
May you both live a long happy life as Brahmajnani said.
Yes, now, as the elder brother,
you stand as a fatherly figure
- Brother too.
- Yes, I am her elder brother.
Now, as a brother, you must perform
the ritual of handing over your sister.
Hey!
- Hey! Its not about lifting her physically, Madana!
- Then?
You must give her hand in marriage.
Place her right hand over his right hand
Offer her kind words, bid her farewell
and let her go with him.
- Brahmajnani.
- Yes.
I will speak
- But you shouldn't interfere.
- I will interrupt when necessary!
Ah... not that way!
Are you about to puke?
- No I do not.
- Then?
Bhavane (Emotion)
Emotion? Fine, fine, fine
Huh.
[SNIFFLES]
- [WEEPS]
- Oh... oh... dear me!
Your fate is doomed!
My master is crying!
- Shut up, you soul of misfortune!
- Brahmajnani
Do me a favor.
- Tell me.
- Stop crying!
If you cry, she will start
wailing, and it will be unbearable!
If you had a sister,
you would understand, Brahmajnani.
Stop crying. You will make her cry too.
You should bless her journey with happy face, with joy, not sorrow.
You should have told me earlier.
Alright, do it.
This is right.
Good!
Tell me the truth,
I swear, you are testing my patience!
- Why, Brahmajnani?
- Know that,
Your nonsense will be the end of me!
Hey Madana.
- No more laughing!
- Hmm
- No more crying either!
- Hmm
- Stay neutral
- Is it?
- Brother-in-law!
- Yes Brother-in-law!
- I am giving my sister to you.
- Yes.
- Bathe her in milk if needed.
- Yes.
- Bathe her in water if needed.
- Yes.
Take good care of her, my brother-in-law.
Of course, brother-in-law.
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
I have arranged for velvet carpets across
the palace, so your feet will never hurt.
- Listen, listen!
- Yes.
You won't listen
I have made sure you sleep
only on soft swan-feathered beds
Listen, listen!
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
- We played together in this very courtyard.
- Hmm
But today, You are leaving
us to join your husbands home
- You marry one and go to anothers home.
- O dear!
- Hey my dear Madana.
- Is this her second connection!
- Not like that!
- Then what?
What is it?
You dont marry one
and go to anothers home!
- Not like that, Brahmajnani.
- Then what do you mean?
- My sister.
- Hmms
- Did she marry one?
- She did.
Won't she leave our house for another house?
- Did you see?
- Huh.
That makes sense.
Need three months to grasp
for this philosopher's words.
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
- Consider your husband as your God and woship.
- Yes, yes.
You should live considering
him your everything.
Indeed. Indeed.
The sky without the moon
A pond without lotus flowers
- Aha! Aha!
- Hmm.
A head without brains,
- A bear without fur.
- [GASPS]
- A seedless--
- What nonsense is this?
What is that?
I mean...
- My dear sister.
- Yes, brother?
So far, you lived a luxurious life
Troubles may transpire to you
You may suffer agony
if you ever face difficulties
in your new home
Dont hesitate! Sister.
Don't hesitate.
- Run back to us! Run back to us!
- O dear!
Hey!
- Thats not what you say!
- Then?
You should say that she must accept her
husband as her world and face life with him!
- Oh, I see!
- Yes.
Brother-in-law, take good care of her.
I will, brother-in-law.
The ritual is now complete.
You go there and take rest.
Go.
Even urgently You completed
this symbolic wedding
- Yes, that it's a symbolic wedding
- Yes
Two days later, there's should be a feast
Brahmajnanis can leave anything except meals
Delicious kinds of dishes for
you and sweet treats for you. -Is that so?
I will make those arrangements
- It means today a symbolic feast awaiting
- Isn't it so?
- Come let's everyone go.
- Come, come.
Without hesitation, having contemplated
many things, the ministerial lord
Stands prepared for the forthcoming
act, while the wicked ones rage.
Great minister, I heard
that you summoned me
Kulinda,
I dont feel at ease,
something is troubling me.
What happened, my lord?
Was there any issue with our hospitality?
No, no, nothing like that.
Then what is the matter?
Your son Chandrahasa left
for Kuntala three days ago.
Until now, we have not
received any news from there.
I wonder what has happened, whether
things have gone wrong.
My lord, my son Chandrahasa
I have full faith in him.
- Even I have faith, Kulinda.
- Hmm
But...
I should not have entrusted
this task to your son.
If I had completed the job myself,
my mind would have been at peace.
Whatever had to happen
has already happened.
Now, I must reach
Kuntala as soon as possible.
You could have stayed for two more
days and accepted our hospitality.
Please do not insist, Kulinda.
The call of duty is urging me.
I must leave immediately.
- Anala!
- Yes.
- Come, lets go.
- Hmm.
We shall take our leave.
The son remains unaware,
oblivious to what fate has in store
The troubling reasons
creating the swirl inside
The troubling reasons
creating the swirl inside
THE PREMISES OF KUNTALA DINING HALL
[HUMMING SONG]
Oh dear! [GRUNTS]
- Hey! Who is this reckless fool?
- Oh no!
- Cant he see where he's going?
- Brahmajnani!
- Forgive me! It was a mistake.
- What a misfortune! Didnt you notice that Im coming?
Oh no! I didnt realize. Please
forgive me. It was unintentional.
Forgive me.
Oh! My Lord, Minister!
- Yes, it is me.
- Oh, I see! I didnt recognize you earlier.
Its alright, dont worry about it.
I cursed without realizing it was you.
Please dont take it to heart.
No worries. But what brings
you here, near my house?
Oh, yes, yes! Something
special at your house?
- Special?
- A feast.
A feast!
- Did you have a feast?
- Yes, we did!
- Oh, so you got a treasure?
- Treasure? Huh?
Treasure?
I meant, did you receive your offering?
Oh! Why ask about that?
Your son performed the rituals so well!
He gave the offerings generously, no doubt.
- And the meal was splendid!
- A good meal?
- Yes, yes!
- What meal?
Oh dear, a wedding feast!
- A wedding?
- Yes.
- A wedding?
- Wedding.
- A wedding for my son, Madan?
- Hmm.
For Prince Champakamala?
A wedding, indeed.
- A wedding?
- But... not your sons wedding.
- Not my sons wedding?
- No, no.
- Then whose wedding?
- Whose marriage?
- What are you saying, O noble one?
- What is it, Brahmajnani?
- Your daughters wedding!
- [GASPS SHARPLY]
- My daughters wedding?
- Yes, your daughters wedding.
Vishayas wedding?!
- My daughters wedding?!
- Yes.
- Brahmajnani, who is the groom?
- Oh dear!
why are you asking? You
sent him yourself. Chandrahasa!
- Chandrahaasa. -Madana, gave your daughter
and arranged the wedding.
- Chandrahaasa!
- Marriage.
- Vishaya?!
- Feast!
And a grand feast!
- The son remains unaware, oblivious to what fate has in store
- Hey! Give me my sword.
- Oh! What a strange and twisted turn in the pages of life!
- Hey Madana!
Madana!
Madana!
- Oh my Lord!
- Hmm.
Your father-in-law is here!
I havent done anything wrong!
Why would he come here?
- Oh no, my Lord.
- Hmm.
My father-in-law!
- Again?
- Your father!
- My father?!
- Yes.
- Go, go, go quickly!
- How can I?
Just go, go, go!
- Hey Madana!
- Im going!
- Go, go, go!
- Im going!
Go, go
Oh no, Father.
My Father! -Hey Madana!
Burning with rage, the wicked one sets out,
Madana!
- Marching towards the one he once called his son
- Father!
- Hey!
- Father.
I once believed you were
the pride of our lineage. -Father!
But you have become its disgrace!
Father!
I did not write this in the decree
- yet you went ahead and acted on your own!.
- Father! Father!
What have you done?
- Father.
- What is it?
What happened, Father?
You still dare to ask what happened?!
Did you follow
what was written in the decree?
- Yes, Father.
- What exactly did you do?
- I did exactly what you had
written in the decree, Father. -Silence.
Father!
Do not call me Father again-be warned!
Then what should I call you, Father?
I am not your father, and
you are no son of mine!
A disgrace like you does
not deserve to live in this land!
You are letting your
anger consume you, Father.
I am asking you, please, listen to me.
If a little anger makes
someone jump into a well,
then even ten times that anger
won't bring them back up, Father.
I did not come here to
listen to your lessons!
- What happened, Father?
- What happened?!
I will cut off your head-be warned!
If that will bring you
peace, then do it, Father.
- But think carefully before you act.
- Think about what?
Once, there was a great
sage named Jamadagni.
Hmm.
Blinded by rage, he lost his wife
and children-all his loved ones
Consider your actions before
taking the next step, Father.
Are you trying to teach me a lesson?
No, Father.
- Did you follow the decree exactly?
- Yes, Father.
Where is the decree?
I knew you would ask for it.
That is why I kept it in
a secure place, Father.
- Secure?
- Yes, Father.
Where is this so-called secure place?
It is safe, Father. I will show you.
I will bring it father
Father! Father!
Is that your idea of a secure place?!
Where else could be safer than that, Father?
For the one who arrived in distress,
his path is now empty.
- The lotus-born (Brahma) has devised a different fate for this.
- Listen!
Father!
Father! My hand, my hand!
- The esteemed minister and chief, Duhstabuddhi.
- My father!
I am aware.
From the supreme command,
the task assigned to his son Madana
It was told to me.
- It was written by me for you!
- Yes, Father.
This Chandrahasa is a great danger to us
He is a great benefit to us!
- A great danger to us!
- A great benefit to us!
Maha-hita, Maha-ahita!
That is a Savarna Deergha Sandhi!
- Father! Father!
- Hey! Listen!
Instead of looking at lineage,
heritage, education, age, and valor. -Yes father
Give him poison!
Oh no, Father! It was a mistake, Father!
Instead of looking at lineage,
heritage, education, age, and valor.
- Give him poison!
- It was a mistake, Father!
Am I the father, or are you?
- Father, you are the one.
- Did I wrote, or are you?
Father, you have written
The mistake is known to me or to you?
- Now you understand, right, Father?
- I havent seen it.
Instead of looking at lineage,
heritage, education, age, and valor
(As he is about to continue
Theres the mistake,
Father. Read it properly!
Instead of looking at lineage,
heritage, education, age, and valor
Give him Vi Vi...
- Vishaye!
- Yes father.
Father?!
What happened, Father?
Please sit down, Father.
No one can change what is written by fate
Even Duhstabuddhi himself knew this.
However, he set out to
alter the very script of destiny.
I need some solitude.
No worries, father.
No worries at all
Ill arrange for your
solitude right away, father.
Do it.
My father needs solitude.
[GESTURES TO LEAVE]
[VOCALIZING]
Father... Father...
- Father.
- What?
Try to recover a little.
Alright, son.
If you need anything at any time,
just call me, father. I will be right here.
Thats enough, son.
- Just take some rest and recover.
- Hmm... I will.
Leave.
- Father, take care, father.
- If needed, I will call you.
Alright, father, alright.
[SCREAMS SHARPLY]
[SOBS]
- So, did Duhstabuddhi change?
- Hm-hmm.
- Did he realize his mistakes?
- No.
As the saying goes, "At the time
of destruction, one loses all sense.
His cup of sins was about to overflow-only a
single drop was left to fill it completely.
I have examined what I wrote twice.
My hands, my eyes-there is
no way they have deceived me.
Someone else must have deceived me.
Destiny...
..or Chandrahaasa?
No, no!
Chandrahasa could never deceive me
So,
how could my son Madana?!
So innocent, so naive-possibly
betray his own father?
No, there is no way It's my son's fault.
After all that has happened,
Should I simply sit back, doing
nothing!!?
If I do nothing now, then all my
efforts until now will have been in vain.
I must act...
I must act...
My mind urges me forward.
Under no circumstances
should I spare Chandrahasa!
As long as Chandrahasa is alive, the throne
of Kuntala will remain out of my grasp.
So, my next goal is clear,
Chandrahasa must die.
Death... death...
Now, who is Chandrahasa?
My son-in-law.
He is my daughters husband.
If Chandrahasa dies, my
daughter will become a widow.
My daughter will become a widow.
Drat!
So be it! Let her be a widow!
Hmph!
Time heals all wounds.
She may shed tears for a few days,
but eventually, she will
console herself and move on.
In this world, no one is eternal.
Everyone is destined to die someday
But if I stop my mission now,
I am certain that the throne of
Kuntala will slip from my grasp.
Yes!
Yes!
Chandrahasa must die!
This was Duhstabuddhis final attack.
That it would become the cause of his own
downfall, as well as that of many others.
Dushtabuddhi, did not realize.
As Duhstabuddhi's shout echoed,
Chandrahasa and his wife stood before him.
His mind was a storm of uncontrollable rage,
his heart drowning in sorrow.
[SOBS]
At that moment,
a royal summons arrives for
Madana from the King of Kuntala.
Madana, after informing his father and
seeking his permission, prepares to leave.
The Maharaja has summoned me
Repeating multiple times,
emphasizing its importance,
He also expresses his regret at
having to leave at such a moment.
- Father.
- Hmm
I must go, father
What is this?
It's in old Kannada, father.
Oh, havent you let go of that yet?
- I am still learning it, father.
- Alright, fine. Leave now.
- I will go now, father.
- Hmm
- Father?
- Hmm.
- Shall I leave?
- Havent you left yet?
I am leaving now, father.
[VO] During the wedding,
since her father was absent
Vishaya left, saying she would
prepare a special meal for him.
Dushthabuddhi saw this
as the perfect opportunity.
My son kept saying,
"I did this, I did that,"
but I dont understand what exactly he did.
- But tell me one thing, Chandrahasa.
- What is it?
Have all the religious rituals
been completed properly?
Yes, everything has been
performed accordingly.
Have you visited all the
temples that needed to be visited?
Yes, I have visited all
the temples as instructed.
- The Mahaganapati Temple?
- I visited that on the very first day.
- The Anjaneya Temple?
- On the second day.
- The Durga Parameshwari Temple?
- I have visited that as well.
The Smashana Kalika Temple?
- That one... I havent visited yet.
- [GASPS]
- Ah, you havent been there?
- No, I havent.
You didnt offer prayers at
the Smashana Kalika Temple?!
Oh, Divine Mother! We have been deceived!
This is a great mistake!
A grave mistake, Mother!
Father-in-law
Chandrahaasam within
three days of the wedding,
if the Smashana Kalika
Temple is not visited
the Goddess unleashes her wrath.
A terrible drought will come!
Everything will be ruined!
Everything will be doomed,
Chandrahasa! Doomed!
What shall we do?! What can we do?!
- Father-in-law.
- What is it?
- There is no need to worry.
- Why?
As you said, within how many
days should we visit the temple?
Within three days of the wedding.
Today is the third day since the wedding.
- Ah... today is the third day?
- Yes.
Oh, the Divine Mother has
saved us all! She has saved us!
- Chandrahasa, do one thing.
- Tell me, Father-in-law.
Go immediately and offer prayers at the
Smashana Kalika Temple! Go and offer prayers!
Alright, Father-in-law. I will
take Vishaya along with me
No! You must go alone.
For other temples, husbands
and wives may go together,
but for the Smashana Kalika
Temple, only the groom must visit.
Even during my wedding, I went alone.
So you must go alone
and complete the ritual.
Alright, Father-in-law.
As you say, I will go alone.
Shall I make the necessary
preparations and leave at once. - Good.
- Very well then.
- Now go!
Another conspiring betrayal begun
Chandrahaasa!
Chandrahaasa!
Madana, who was returning after
the discussion with Kuntala's king
With excitement he headed towards
the royal palace to inform something
THE WAY OF MADANA TAKES FROM KUNTALA PALACE TO HIS ROYAL COURHere Dushtabuddhi to execute his conspiracy
[VOCALIZING]
Deceiver!
This is the punishment for your mistake
Around 20 years ago,
I asked you to bring the
severed head of a boy
By not killing him,
The insolent who deceived me
with a chopped toe as an evidence
Ay!
Anyone who dares to stand in
my way shall meet the same fate!
Be warned!
[IN UNISON] Forgive us,
O Highness! We made a mistake!
A mistake?
A mistake, you say?
Do you think I should forgive you?
- Yes, master!
- Fine. I shall forgive you
But...
..only if you swear to
do exactly as I command!
Tell us, highness! We will do whatever
you say to atone for our mistake!
Swear it! Swear it by touching my hand!
We swear, highness!
We shall do as you command!
- Will you?
- [IN UNISON] Yes.
Go.
- At dusk
- [IN UNISON] Hmm.
There will be a lone man will arrive
to the Shmashana Kali Temple.
Without looking back, without hesitation
sever his head!"
But highness, how will
we recognize the man?
What if someone else arrives instead?
Hey!
Fools! It does not matter who it is!
Whoever arrives-kill them without question!
- But master, what if it is someone else?
- Whoever it may be
Even if it is me, cut off the head!
As the dense clouds
of grievous sin gather.
The waters of despair flood in.
Who shall be sacrificed,
whose life shall be taken?
THE SUBSECTION OF KUNTALA PALACE
Who will step forward
as fate unfolds?
- Brother-in-law!
- Brother-in -law! What a surprise!
Brother-in -law, where are you headed
My father-in-law instructed me
to visit the Kali Temple on the third
day after marriage and offer prayers.
- Oh, does he not have anything else to do!
- Why do you say that, brother?"
The king urgently wishes to speak
with you about an important matter.
You must go to him immediately!
What is this matter about?
Something regarding political affairs.
He insists that you meet him at once.
- But Father-in-law
- Hmm
- There is one problem.
- What is it?
My father-in-law gave me this responsibility.
If I do not fulfill it, I would
be disobeying the elders.
Besides, there is a tradition among you all
- Within three days of marriage.
- Hmm
It is customary for a newlywed husband
to visit the Kali Temple and offer prayers
Brother-in-law, dont overthink this!
! Elders, especially the
King, are like gods to us
When a king personally calls you,
it must be for a significant reason
Worship can always be done later.
- If it's must, let's do one thing.
- What?
Instead of you, I will go and
offer prayers on your behalf!
- Brother-in-law.
- Yes
- I dont know why,
- Yes
but I feel uneasy.
I feel that I must go to the temple myself.
Brother-in-law, do not say such things!
We have immense respect for the King.
- If he is calling you today.
- Hmm
There must be a crucial reason."
- Do one thing.
- What?
go meet the King at once.
Meanwhile, I will prepare
everything for the temple worship.
Hmm.
- Is that alright?
- Very well, Brother-in-law.
- I shall do as you say.
- Alright.
Brother-in-law-in -law.
Even so, my heart is not at ease,
I feel that I must go there myself.
Why are you being so
stubborn, like a child?
There is nothing to worry about!
I will perform the puja in your name.
You just go meet the
king and return quickly.
You leave
I will handle it, you go.
Brother-in-law!
- I will return as soon as possible.
- Thats the spirit!
- Take care, Brother-in-law-in -law.
- I will.
Brother-in-law, I am here. Do not worry.
Soldiers, escort him
safely beyond the fortress!
Yes, my lord!
[IN UNISON] What happened next, Guruji?"
The wicked soul of
the mind of the gathering
THE WAY TO KALI TEMPLE FROM KUNTALA PALACE
Has fallen into
the net of its own life.
KALIKA TEMPLE
What is the true heart of Kali?
In the stage of the world.
[GASPS]
[GASPS]
Hmm?!
[GASPS]
This is the cruel tale of destiny,
The playful life of destiny.
Mother Kalika, you should protect us
- Happiness in Kunthala
- Kaalika, save me once again."
Huh?!
- Chandrahasa!
- Father-in-Law.
- Chandrahasa...Is it truly you?
- Yes Father-in-Law. It is I
How... how did you come here?
Were you not supposed to go
to the smasaana Kl temple?
- Father-in-Law
- What is it?
- As I was on my way to the temple
- Huh
Brother-in-law, Madanaraya
appeared before me.
What happened then?
He told me that the Maharaja had
summoned him to discuss matters of state.
And so?
I stepped aside to
let him fulfill his duty.
You went to the King with much anticipation?
Yes.
Then, You defied my words?"
No, Father-in-Law.
What do you mean, again?
- Brother-in-law Madanaraya, went in my place.
- [GASPS SHARPLY]
To the temple!
Madana!
Madana!
Madana!
Madana!
Madana! Madana!
Madana!
This life has come to understand
the bond of the soul
Just like the bird in the body,
does it exist inside the cage?
Kaalika mother, what is this illusion?
You wretched traitors!
What is this conspiracy of yours?
I will behead each one of you
and play with your skulls like a ball!
Jai Mahakali!
- The fire of the pyre has burned, the lamp of the soul has extinguished
- Madana! O dear!
Oh, my beloved son!"
Father-in-law
Princess, I have heard that the chief
minister Dushtabuddhi and Chandrahasa
are rushing towards the
Kalika temple in great urgency
Madana!
Hey!
Madana!
Oh, my beloved son
[WEEPS] Madana!
My son!
The very lips that once called out
to you now taste the dust of despair
It should have been you
who lit my funeral pyre.
But...
fate has turned cruel, forcing me
to perform your last rites instead!
I dreamt of crowning
you as the ruler of Kntala
In the end, I didn't get the fortune to
see you ascend the throne with honor
I am left to lay you upon the funeral pyre.
No son.
By losing you...
..How do I continue to live as the servant of
the Chandrahsa very man who took you from me?
How can I, Duabuddhi, live
as the mere shadow of his glory?
? How do I live with this torment?
Chandrahaasa.
Hey Chandrahaasa.
I tried to rewrite the destiny
inscribed upon your forehead
But fate has played a
cruel trick on me instead!
Mother!
Mother Jagadamba!
Why, O Divine Mother?
Why punish my son
for the sins of his father?
I cherished but one priceless
jewel in my life my son, Madan!
you have taken him away from me!
Chandrahaasa.
Chandrahsa, the world
needs a warrior like you
But a sinner like me... this earth
can no longer bear my presence.
This earth can no longer bear my presence.
This land that has swallowed my
sons life... shall not tolerate mine either!
Your soul will find no peace until justice is
served, Chandrahsa. the Goddess to be satisfied,
the life she truly demands
is not that of my son.
O Jagadamba! If it is my life
that will appease your wrath
Then take it!
I will amalgamate with your feet
Oh, cruel Kaavadeva, What is the state of
your seat, and the nature of your thoughts?
- The tale of life is full of death and suffering
- Father!
- Swami.
- Vishaye.
Father-in-Law.
In life, who knows when the end
comes, when the soul departs?
Father!
Father!
Father!
Alas!
Oh, cruel Kaavadeva,
oh, cruel Kaavadeva.
Father!
Brother!
Oh, cruel Kaavadeva,
oh, cruel Kaavadeva.
Oh, what is this terrible
fate I am witnessing?
Swami... the sword... Swami.
The cruel fire of enmity
The astonishment of Veerasimhas gaze
Reveals his new
intentions in the moment.
Swami!
Veerasimha... you?"
As a feudal lord, I desired
to become a true ruler.
In the grand chessboard
of politics that I played. -Don't do it.
Don't...
you were merely a piece, Chandrahsa.
- Veerasimha! -my final move is to strike
at your heart, your beloved wife, Vishaye!
Veerasimha, the enmity
here is between you and me.
- Vishaye!
- Enough!
Enough!
[GRUNTS PAINFULLY]
Veerasimha!
Vishaye.
Swami.
Swami.
Veerasimha!
[GASPS]
Chandrahaasa!
your reign of dominance over
Aryavarta's noble heirs ends today!
I will crush your pride into dust."
Chandrahaasa!
I will watch as you burn
in the fire of my vengeance
Chandrahaasa!
Your obsession with
Visaye blinded you
while your secret talks of marriage with the
most beautiful woman in Kntala, Champakamala
were merely another step in
your grand political conspiracy.
But tonight... I put an end to it all!
Chandrahaasa!
Tomorrow, in the royal court of
Chandanavati there will be mourning
[LAUGHS]
Now, this lion shall fall
before the might of Vrasimha.
[LAUGHS]
[VOCALIZING]
The brave one of
the million rays of light
The brave one of
the million rays of light
In the terrible storm
of the lion's rage.
The supreme valor
This astonishment, this wonder,
Astonishment, astonishment.
The roaring flames of your rising hatred.
Do you think this mighty
blade trembles at that roar?
Victory will create History
And the address of that
history is this Chandrahasa
The fire that burns beneath the sea, The sharp fang of
death's eye, A black serpent moving in the thunderstorm
The roaring lion king, Let Parashurama grab hold,
When the fiery blaze of the Udupa's laugh explodes.
Veera Chandrahasa! Veera
Chandrahasa! Veera Chandrahasa!
The one who is equal to a grain of sand,
the wicked one who does not feel tired
Ruthlessly he swings the noose of Yama and
throws everyone into the dance of death
In the battlefield, the one named Bhairava, fierce and
wild. Demonstrates his valor and strength, showing no mercy.
Veera Chandrahasa! Veera
Chandrahasa! Veera Chandrahasa!
[SCREAMS SHARPLY]
Mother
Oh Kaali Maatha
Look with your own eyes at
what has happened in your temple
Are you happy now?
Look carefully!
You are revered as the Universal Mother,
but what have you done?
What have you done?!
This Chandrahsa, who should not have committed
such acts, was made to do them by your will.
Mother, I lost my father-in-law,
Duabuddhi. Was like father to me.
I lost my innocent brother-in-law, Madana.
And I lost my beloved wife,
the one who was my very life.
Why?
Why?
Why, Mother?
You are the bloodthirsty one, arent you?
You crave blood, dont you?
But it will never be enough, will it?
Never!
Here, I hold my sword.
I offer my own blood to you, Mother.
Take it!
Take it!
Accept it!
[GASPS]
- O Mother, auspicious illusion
- Mother!
Mother!
Purifying in nature
The form of Kali, adorned
with white radiance
- The wave of auspiciousness.
- Mother... Mother!
I do not understand why
all of this has happened.
Mother, do you see?
Wherever I look, all I see
is a downpour of blood.
Why, Mother? Why is it like this?
Look around.
Everyone has perished
What is the purpose of my existence now?
What is the use of me living any longer?
- My child, Chandrahsa.
- Mother?
Do not grieve over what has happened
You were born in one
place, brought up in another,
and today, you have
surrendered to me in my temple.
You must now stand tall in this world.
It is my divine will that you
become the protector of this kingdom.
Everything that has happened
was necessary to strengthen you.
One day, a great calamity will come,
and you must be prepared to stop it.
It is your destiny to safeguard
this sacred land of Bharata.
Son
When the time is right, I will guide you.
Hold the sacred Shaligrama with
a pure heart and unwavering focus,
chant the name of Hari, and meditate
upon me with absolute devotion
I will restore life to all your loved ones.
! Let all beings in this world be happy
May auspiciousness prevail
I am grateful, Mother.
Mother!
[GASPS]
Brother-in-law!
- Beloved.
- Vishaye!
- Father-in-law.
- Chandrahaasa.
Vishaye!
Chandrahsa was blessed
by the Divine Mother.
Those who had perished
were revived by her grace.
Upon learning the truth from Chandrahsa, they all
surrendered themselves to Goddess Kalika in devotion.
- Chandrahaasa!
- Father-in-law.
One who takes a life is not truly great
the one who brings the dead
back to life is the greatest of all.
You are truly blessed, for you have witnessed
the divine mother with your own eyes
Holding your feet is no crime.
One thing is certain,
at the very moment I 'died,'
the evil within me perished too.
With the grace of the Divine Mother, I
have been reborn, and along with me
wisdom has also taken birth.
Isnt it the Divine Mother
who has given us all a new life?
Hail the Mother, Jagadamba! Salutations to the Goddess!-To prevent the impending disaster that threatens the kingdom
Goddess words that "Only you have the strength"
Echoed deeply in Chandrahsas heart
GARUDAKSHA
THE KALINJA EMPIRE
- For the Lion King's throne, The fierce gaze of Garuda burns with the flames of hatred
- If I cannot have Champakamala
The fierce gaze of Garuda burns with the flames of hatred
Then no vile creature in this world shall possess her!
Hmm!
"Guruji, hasnt Chandrahsas
suffering ended yet?
THE WEST FORT OF KUNTALA
Hey Subuddhi!
Even if the entire army of
Kuntala stands against me,
I will still take your daughter, place
her on my thigh, and carry her away!
Champakamala is now beneath my feet!
[LAUGHS]
As the mighty ruler of this empire,
nothing in Kuntala has captivated
me more than Champakamala.
SAMUDRA SENA
THE VANGA EMPIRE
Champakamala! If she slips from my grasp,
Hey, minister! Prepare the army
immediately. Behead Chandrahaasa
crush Garudakshas arrogance,
and claim Champakamala for me.
Move out!
A restless pack of vultures,
with eyes as sharp as a hawk,
stands poised, eager to seize its prey.
SAMVARANA
THE EMPIRE OF MAGADHA
The wrath that once burned like
the scorching sun has been concealed
all for her.
I, the undefeated one, who defeated
the mighty warriors of a hundred kingdoms
Hey Garudaksha,
The flame of wrath hidden
within my heart has now ignited.
Destruction is inevitable,
and I shall be the one to carve your
death sentence with my own hands!
A warrior who has hoisted the
flag of victory in all eight directions!
If not for her,
KARAKANDU
THE KALINGA EMPIRE
then at least for the throne
of Kuntala, I shall declare war.
Let the war elephants charge, let the
cavalry thunder across the battlefield
Kuntala shall be mine!
Garudaksha's fate is sealed! [LAUGHS]
- Chandrahaasa!
- [IN UNISON] Chandrahaasa!
[IN UNISON] Chandrahaasa!
[VO] Garudaksha, who abducted
Queen Champakamala,
, killed hundreds of
soldiers in his pursuit.
When Subuddhi Maharaja's commander, Shoor Sena,
came to Chandrahsa to express his sorrow
Dushthabuddhi told him that the secret of
Chandrahsa's marriage to Champakamala
had leaked and that the enemy kingdoms
were preparing for war against them.
Father-in-law
I have grown up listening
to my mother speak about,
how one must be willing to sacrifice
their life for this land and its language.
I cannot tolerate the disgrace brought
upon a woman of this sacred soil.
Like a lion roaring amidst blazing fire,
Like an enraged elephant
charging at the sight of its mahout
Garudaksha-the coward who
abducted Champakamalini like a thief
I will sever his head and
place it at your feet like a ball.
No matter who dares to
stand against this cause
I will cut through their
arrogance with this very sword,
and offer their downfall as
an offering to Mother Earth.
If I fail to do so, then I
am not Chandrahaasa!
[VO] A mere beggar
ascends the throne of Kuntala
but the wolves waiting for
that throne never realized,
that they were marching
toward the doorstep of death.
Brakura
If Chandrahsa stands boldly against Garudaksha,
Yearning for battle, surging forth,
then just as Hanuman had Lord Rama's protection,
who shall stand as divine protection for Chandrahsa, Brakura?
Halting the arrogance of wicked foes.
Slashing through enemy ranks
No matter what obstacles
arise, do not fear!
Know that this Shivaputtaswamy
will always stand by your side.
Jai Bhubhaneshwari!
Veera Chandrahaasa!
[INTONING] Veera Chandrahaasa!

We shall meet again

Jai Bhubhaneshwari!
He wields the lightning sword, making the earth tremble.
With fierce eyes, resist the rising waves of enemies
He roars and rises, embodying the wrath of Lord Narasimha..
Veera Chandrahasa...
In the quest for woman and land
In the quest for woman and land,
A storm of battle raged
The people, aware yet unyielding, driven by deeper greed.
Ignited the flames of a bloody war,
Thus unfolds the valorous saga of Chandrahsa!
Veera Chandrahasa...
