(light music)
(footsteps approaching)
(lock beeping)
(door opening)
(footsteps approaching)
(light music continues)
(door opening)
- Man, I don't know why he needs it now,
we ain't even finished setting up yet.
Where'd he leave it?
Okay, oh oh okay, okay.
(footsteps receding)
(door opening)
(door closing)
Yeah, I'm a night owl.
Ah it's all right, I mean,
this is big for a small place like ours.
People already bought tickets.
(lock clicking)
(light switch clicking)
Got it, okay.
All right, I'll send
it over to you shortly.
Yeah, no worry, I wouldn't
sleep, it's all right.
(footsteps receding)
Yeah, he's an asshole, I get it.
(door rattling)
(light music)
Who the hell locked the
damn downstairs bathroom?
No, it's locked.
I'll call you back (man
in tan jacket sighs)
I'm gonna grab a key.
(toilet flushing)
- Good lord (Tyson laughs), you scared me.
- Who the hell are you?
- Overnight security.
(footsteps receding)
(light music continues)
- [Man In Tan Jacket] But we
don't have overnight security.
- Yeah will I just, I just got hired on
to guard the new exhibit,
you know the one with the you know,
big ole famous painter guy.
- Yeah, that's, next week.
- Oh really?
(Tyson laughs) Shit.
That explains why there
ain't no paintings in there.
Well, you have a good night, man.
(light music continues)
- Hey, what's with the mask?
- Yeah, it's cold outside, I
get real chilly and whatnot.
Goodnight, man.
- Well, yeah, I don't mean to be rude,
but, can you take it off?
- (Tyson sighs) It's
real cold outside, man,
I'm about to head out there.
- No, I will feel much
better if I'd seen your face.
(light music continues)
My apologies, I didn't know.
- It's all good, man.
- [Man In Tan Jacket] All right, sorry.
- You have a good night, all right?
(footsteps receding)
(alarm beeping)
(man in tan jacket groans)
- Don't worry about it,
I'll, get it before the cops get here.
I don't want them thinking
you're some type of, thief.
(light music continues)
Where you goin'?
- Yeah, I was just gonna,
turn the alarm off myself.
You know, they gave me
the code on my first day.
- I thought today was your first day.
- Right right, yeah, I mean
they, they gave me the code
in my email.
- Do you have any form of identification?
I mean, the cops are already on their way,
so, as long as you don't
have anything to hide,
you should be good.
- Yeah, don't worry.
Well I'll be damned, (Tyson
laughs) reminds me of my mama.
- Hey!
(dramatic music)
(footsteps approaching)
(sirens beeping)
You goin' to jail now.
(man in tan jacket laughs)
(people talking indistinctly)
- Son of a bitch. (Tyson sighs)
(light music)
- Whiskey will always
be the superior liquor,
think about it.
Vodka's not supposed
to taste like anything
if it's done well, gin is for mixing,
tequila's for getting drunk,
and beer, well Toby Keith and
Willie Nelson said it best,
"Whiskey's for men, beer is for horses."
(people talking indistinctly)
Whiskey's all about flavor,
everything, from the grain,
to the still, to the barrels,
affect the taste and consistency.
If someone says, "Vodka is my hobby,"
they're either an alcoholic, or a Russian,
and if someone says, "Whiskey's my hobby,"
they're a cultured lawful drinker.
People take whiskey very seriously.
- So, this bottle that's worth a lot?
- A lot.
- But you're not sure he has it?
- Not even sure it exists.
- Yeah, I ain't putting my ass on the line
for something that might not exist.
- But, oh that's
expensive whiskey, sip it.
(people talking indistinctly)
(glass clinking)
- It's a dead end.
- I can pay more.
- Yeah, pay me all you want,
unless you wanna pay me
to bring you nothin'.
(hand slapping)
- Don't chug it.
(man with beard laughs)
(man with beard groans)
(glass clinking)
- I know a guy who took jobs like this,
but, he doesn't work anymore.
(light music continues)
- Why don't you tell me his name?
(birds chirping)
(light music)
(cassette case clinking)
(light music continues)
(truck door opening)
(birds chirping)
(guitar case clinking)
(truck door closing)
(truck rumbling)
(light music continues)
(radio clicking)
(Tyson groaning)
(upbeat music)
(film rattling)
I spent my time doing time
Now I'm out I'm doing fine
But I still catch
myself stealing sunshine
Oh
Oh I'm stealing sunshine
I met a man when I was in he
told me son if you ain't safe
You'll end up back in
stealing sunshine for eternity
Steal stealing steal stealing sunshine
(film rattling)
(people clapping and cheering)
- Thank you, that's my
song, "Stealing Sunshine".
(people talking indistinctly)
Wrote it about a man--
- Hey sexy,
can't you play something that we all know,
some Jason Aldean or some
Luke Bryan or something,
some Broadway stuff, you know?
Hey, hey!
(bottle clinking)
- What the hell's your fucking problem?
- Don't ignore me!
- Can security come get this bitch?
- What the fuck did you say?
- Sorry about the interruption folks,
how bout some Jessie Greengrass?
(footsteps approaching)
Hey look buddy, I've
been around the block,
and I'm telling you,
it's in your best interest
to go take a. (hand thudding)
(upbeat music)
- [Woman] Yeah, baby!
- Security.
(hand thudding)
- Yeah, that's my baby!
Show 'em how we do it in Missouri.
All right, baby.
(hand thudding)
No, stop it!
Show him baby, baby!
- Last chance, asshole.
(woman groaning)
You done?
- Hell no!
- Do it like my bachelorette party, now!
- And y'all have security or not?
(upbeat music continues)
(film rattling)
(glass clinking)
(light music)
I still catch myself
stealing sunshine oh
- I'm not seeing a lotta money here.
(people talking indistinctly)
- I make money busking every day.
(woman in black blazer laughs)
- From drunk tourists.
There's nothing unique here.
- It's three chords, and the truth.
I'm trying to bring
back that classic sound
ain't no one heard--
- There's a reason
no one sounds like that anymore.
We need catchy.
- Well I don't make pop music.
(music in distance)
- Then we have nothing to talk about.
- Look, I've been doing
this for three years now,
what do I gotta do to get
you all to take me seriously?
- No one owes you a career, buddy.
(upbeat music continues)
- Thank you for your time.
- Look, this is a business,
you can't keep running
around town taking meetings
if you won't take any advice.
- Thank you, I'll keep that in mind.
(upbeat music)
(vehicles whirring)
(footsteps approaching)
- Oh hey, there's my favorite singer.
- Hey Bobby, how you doin'?
- I'm alive, by god's good grace.
(Tyson laughs)
Hey, you gonna play downtown?
- Nah, I think I'm gonna turn in early.
- Well what's wrong?
- Well, that label meetin', went to shit.
But, I got you a little gift.
(watch clinking)
- Where'd you get tha--
- It's all yours, Bobby,
sell it, pawn it, whatever you like,
just do it quick, all right?
(light music)
- Thank you.
(fire crackling)
(money rustling)
(phone beeping)
- Hey, Jim.
- [Jim On Phone] Another fist fight?
What the hell were you thinking?
- It was self defense.
- [Jim On Phone] It doesn't matter,
you know the cops are watchin' you.
- Why, I'm not on parole anymore.
- Oh yeah, yeah, that's definitely him.
All right.
Desert sky just keeps on fallin' down
Oh
Oh round
(upbeat music)
(hand tapping)
- (Martin laughs) Nice,
is that Carson Fish?
- Yes sir, it is, good ear.
(vehicles rumbling)
Thank you sir.
- You're Tyson, right?
- Yes sir, I am.
- Martin Quigley.
- Pleasure to meet you.
Care if I play you a song?
- How bout I do something for you?
Have you eaten?
- No, not yet.
- Well name the place, it's on me.
(Martin laughs) Don't worry, I'm a fan.
I have a business proposition for you.
- All right.
(vehicles whirring)
(people talking indistinctly)
- [Martin] I've driven
by this place 100 times,
I've never eaten here.
- Yeah, well she's a gem.
- I like to be direct, so
I'm gonna jump right in.
- Oh boy.
- I hear you're the go to guy
if I want to get my hands
on something elusive.
(light music)
(Tyson clears throat)
- I'm sorry?
- Oh you heard me.
- Yeah, I think you have the wrong guy.
- Donny mentioned you,
told me about the house
you hit in Belleview.
- God damn it, Donny.
- He also told me about the
jewelry store in Brentwood.
- I don't do that no more.
Thank you kindly.
- Oh, you do music full time now, right?
(light music continues)
- All right.
What are you like, a cop?
- No, no, I just do my research,
and I know that you've
lifted things from big wigs
all around Nashville.
- And, like I said, I
don't do that no more.
Did two years in prison,
and I don't think I wanna
go back any time soon.
Now like I said, thank you kindly.
- So now you're out
there making $50 a night,
when you could be making $50,000 a night.
- Music will do that to you, yeah.
(Martin laughs)
- You could buy a goddamn career.
- Yeah, or, I keep doing what I'm doing
and avoid seeing the inside of them walls.
(light music continues)
- Oh, oh yeah, how's
that workin' out for ya?
I mean, let's see, hmm,
you're livin' outta your car,
you're actin' like you
haven't eaten in days,
you smell like you
haven't showered in weeks,
and I'm here with a business proposition,
so, I don't know, (Martin laughs)
maybe you should listen to me?
(light music continues)
- All right.
What kinda thing you lookin' for?
- Here's my address.
(birds chirping)
Come by my place tomorrow, we'll discuss.
(footsteps approaching)
- Yo, a man could get real drunk in here.
(Martin laughs)
- Yeah, it's a bit of a hobby.
- [Tyson] What, getting shit faced?
- Collecting.
These are the greatest hits,
I have way more downstairs.
(soft music)
This, this I've been
trying to get my hands on
for over a decade.
- Yeah, what's so special about it?
- It's a double whammy, a bottle
of whiskey, with a history.
Hank Williams was a big
drinker, killed in '53.
And when he died, he left
behind a whole slew of whiskey.
The music label snatched it all up,
started giving it out to clients.
(glasses clinking)
Now, in 1962, they gave a
rare bottle to Unity, 1949,
to songwriter Bill
Preston as congratulations
for--
- Oh, I know Bill Preston,
he's a legend.
- Right.
1968, Bill Preston had a huge party,
and he invited up and comer, Carson Fish.
- Another legend.
(glasses clinking)
- Cheers.
(soft music continues)
(Martin sighs)
(glass clinking)
Well at this party,
Bill starts showin' off his
bottle of Hank Williams whiskey.
Drunk, he bets it in a poker
game, Carson Fish wins,
Bill tries to back out, Carson won't quit,
and they get in a fist fight,
Carson knocks bill out cold.
Now, he kept the bottle,
unopened in his tour bus
as a good luck charm.
He died in 2012, the bottle
vanished, until recently.
The bottle shows up, and the
new owner is Jessie Greengrass.
- Jessie Greengrass, like,
crying cowboy Jessie Greengrass?
- Yes, and if he has it,
I want you to take it,
because not only is it
the only remaining bottle
of the 1949 Unity, but
there's blood on it,
Bill Preston's blood, from the fist fight.
(soft music continues)
(Tyson laughs)
- Yeah I'm sorry, I can't take
the risk, thank you though.
- Look man, this isn't diamonds,
or cash, it's old booze.
You get in, you get the
bottle, and you're out,
and I give you enough money
to get you outta poverty,
get your music career started,
and maybe get in with Jessie Greengrass
and see how that Nashville
machine really works.
- All right, what's your budget?
(soft music continues)
- $250,000, cash.
- For old whiskey?
- I take whiskey very seriously.
- I'll consider it.
(glass clinking)
(vehicles whirring)
(train rattling)
- [Bobby] Hey, there he is.
- Hey Bobby, got some
leftovers if you want 'em.
- Oh man, thank you.
So that label meeting went to shit?
- Yeah, but I might have
another opportunity.
- Well that's good, see, it all works out.
- Yeah, it's risky though.
- Big risk, big reward.
You been living in the car for how long?
(people talking indistinctly)
(car horns honking)
- Three years now, and
nothing to show for it.
- Look, if you got an
opportunity, you gotta take it.
You served your time,
you deserve to move up.
- Yeah, you're right Bobby, I
have paid my dues, haven't I?
- Yeah.
Shit, if I had an opportunity
to get outta here,
don't you think I'd take it?
- You just need to stop drinkin', Bobby.
(car horns honking)
- Shut up.
(Bobby groaning)
(Tyson laughs)
(light music)
(fire crackling)
(guitar thudding)
- God damn cheap piece of shit.
(light music continues)
(fire continues crackling)
(light music)
Good, about damn time.
Been too long since his last one.
- Looks like he's at Blue Bird Studios,
that's in South Nash.
Yu should start there, find
out if he even has the whiskey.
- Easy enough.
- As far as a team goes,
pick whoever you want,
but I want my guy Keshon in there.
- Sorry, who?
- The guy who's been following you.
- Following me?
- Exactly, Keshon is my
body guard, debt collector,
he's whatever I need him to be.
Young fellow, like yourself.
And I want him to, oversee things.
- And what's his split?
- Nothing, I'll pay him myself.
- You know, I'd rather pick my own people.
- That's too bad.
(check rustling)
Here's a check for $10,000
to get you started,
that'll be separate
from your other payment.
- Been a long time since
I've had this kinda cash.
- That's just the tip of the iceberg.
(light music continues)
- Well, anything else I need to know
about getting close to Jessie?
- That my friend, is
what I'm paying you for.
- Fair enough.
(upbeat music)
I'm a crying cowboy
- [Receptionist] Blue Bird Studios.
- Hi, yeah, I was just in there recordin',
I seem to have forgotten my backpack.
Cowboy
- [Receptionist] Okay,
which studio were you in?
- [Tyson] I'm not too sure.
I was playing bass for
Jessie Greengrass, studio.
- [Receptionist] Jessie
Greengrass, studio two?
- That's it, (Tyson laughs) studio two,
thank you so much.
For you
Bingo.
(guitar music)
(audience clapping)
Thank you, that's "Crying
Cowboy" by Jessie Greengrass.
Thank you folks, I'm Tyson Richmond,
I'll be here all week.
- 60, 70, 80.
(people talking indistinctly)
- Thanks for bookin' me last minute.
- Of course, you killed
that Greengrass song.
(upbeat music)
- You used to work for him, didn't ya?
- Yeah, I was on a CMA
fest team a few years back.
- And what's he like?
- I don't know, I had to
go through his assistant,
Abby Grace, and she hates him.
Only talked to him when
I brought him lunch.
- So you don't know, anything about him?
- I know his lunch order.
(bartender laughs)
- Which was?
- Same thing every day,
Dixie's pulled pork sandwich,
no pickles, sweet potato
fries, side of honey mustard,
sweet tea no ice, why?
- Oh I'm just, I'm recording
in the same studio as him,
you know how much of a fan I am,
I just wanna know wat I can,
just in case I meet him.
- Well you can't get to him
unless you go through Abby Grace,
and, she's hard to get through.
- Well, you got any idea
on where to find her?
(Tyson laughs)
- Sure, I have her damn
phone number if you want it.
(upbeat music continues)
- I'll be damned, aren't
you my little lucky charm?
- Not anymore.
(bartender laughs)
(light music)
(car door opening)
- Hello?
- Ah, is this Abby Grace?
(car door closing)
- Speaking.
- Yeah, this is Mike with XL Productions.
Jessie and I had coffee
scheduled this mornin'
and, he didn't show up.
- I'm sorry, what was this for?
- Jessie and I spoke about a music video
for the upcoming album.
- We haven't even finished recording.
- Jessie said you'd have
a down payment for me,
any news on that?
(Abby groaning)
- I'm not seeing you on our schedule.
- Oh, Jessie said he told you.
Is this normal behavior?
- It sounds like there's
a miscommunication
between Jessie and I.
Let me talk to him and
I'll get back to you, okay?
- You know what, forget it,
I don't need a client who acts like this.
(glass thudding)
- Oh, no.
(light music continues)
(footsteps approaching)
- Whoa, buddy, wrong car.
- You Tyson?
- Who's askin'?
- Keshon Bridges, Quigley sent me.
(footsteps receding)
- Why are you here right now?
This is just recon.
- He wants me to oversee the entire job.
- Oh okay, then were you been?
- Following you, I heard you
play at that, bar last night.
You sound good.
(truck door opening)
(truck door closing)
(truck door opening)
(truck door closing)
Were you watchin' somebody?
- Jessie Greengrass' assistant,
trying to get a read on her.
Think she might be willing to help,
but, I'd rather talk to
Jessie directly if I can.
- Okay, what you need me to do?
- Get outta my car.
(Keshon sighs)
(keys clinking)
Follow me.
(truck rumbling)
(light music)
All right, here we are.
- What do you need me for?
- Absolutely nothing, like
I said, this is just recon.
- I'm no thief, but I can help.
- Ah, not without one of these you can't.
- What do you need that for?
(light music continues)
(footsteps receding)
(footsteps approaching)
(knock on door)
(door opening)
- Hey, I got a order.
- Food delivery?
- Yeah, I just--
- Yeah, go up front,
they're really strict about that.
- Look miss, I'm in a bit of a rush,
the guy yesterday let me in.
- Damn it, which guy, tall guy, blonde?
- Yeah.
- I told him to stop doing that.
- I'll remember that next time.
Now if I can.
- No, go up front.
- Look miss, I really am
in a bit of a rush, I.
(door closing)
Well son of a bitch.
(light music continues)
(footsteps approaching)
- Can I help you?
- Yeah, I got a order
for mister Greengrass.
- All right, let me page his assistant
and she can come in here--
- I got instructions
to take it to him directly,
I'll just, take it back--
- Hold on.
- Studio two, right?
- Hold on,
let me page them, and they
can come up and get it.
- Miss, you ain't gotta page him,
I'll just take it right on back.
- They might be recording.
- Well then I'll just, drop
it off in front of the door.
- [Receptionist] Do you even
understand what we do here?
- Yeah, I know--
- This is Blue Bird Studios,
do you realize the albums
that have been made here,
and who has made them?
Sleepy Sunday's by Betty
Brightside was recorded right here.
You cannot just go back there.
(footsteps approaching)
(knock on door)
(door opening)
- Hey.
- Whoa whoa, who are you?
(light music)
- Wat, I've been recording
for like two weeks,
I just had to step out to go--
- I don't recognize you.
- Oh 'cause, every black
person look the same, huh?
- No, no, that's not what I meant--
- Save it, all right, I
might not be Shaboozey
or Darius Rucker but, I'm somebody,
all right, I'm somebody.
- "Hungry for Heartache" by Hank Ringer,
"Truck Fed Blues" by Tommy--
- Hey!
You here for Jessie?
(light music)
- Yes sir, I am.
- Bring it here, he's starvin'.
I told you I could help.
- Yeah, beginners luck.
This is it.
- Do you need me?
- No, go wait in the bathroom.
- You sure?
Beginners luck.
- Easy, partner.
(light music continues)
(knock on door)
- Hi, can I help you?
- Yeah, I got a order
for mister Greengrass.
- Really?
Lunch isn't for another two hours.
- It's a Dixie's pulled
pork sandwich, no pickles,
sweet potato fries, sweet tea, no ice.
- Oh, that's definitely
his, I'll take it to him.
- You just keep on workin',
I'll take it to him.
- No, he's busy, I got it.
- Look miss, if I'm
gonna be honest with ya,
I'm a huge fan, I'd love to
say hi to him if I could.
- He's not taking visitors.
Have a great day, bye.
(door closing)
- Well, son of a bitch,
(Tyson sighs) all right.
(door closing)
- What now, mister recon?
- We get what we can.
I knew this might happen.
- [Abby] Jessie, calm down.
- [Jessie] Nah, he ordered
lunch to rush me out,
'cause he don't know
what the flip he's doin'!
- [Abby] I doubt that, but--
- [Jessie] He ain't been
nothin' but a disaster
since day one, I want him gone, fired!
(handle rattling)
(knock on door)
Hello?
- Busy.
- [Jessie] Well hurry it up in there.
(tense music)
- Open it.
- She'll recognize me.
- Okay, I'll open it, you hide.
- Where?
It's one goddamn toilet.
- [Jessie] Come on now!
(knock on door)
I got a three bean
couscous about to expire.
(knock on door)
- Can't a man shit in peace?
You wanna share a bathroom,
try the gay bar on church street.
- [Jessie] The gay, what the, hey,
what the hell you say to me?
- [Abby] Why don't we wrap
early and start fresh tomorrow?
- [Jessie] Yeah, I want
a whole different studio,
there's too many damn freaks here.
- You still don't need my help?
(light music)
- Maybe I do.
Pardon my stubbornness.
- Don't worry about it.
(footsteps receding)
- Now Jessie sure seems, delightful.
(Keshon laughs)
- You seem surprised.
(light music continues)
(door squeaking)
(tense music)
(light switch clicking)
- Well I'll be damned, ain't
this the dream right here.
- What we lookin' for?
- Addresses, schedules,
just about anything
that'll get us closer to him.
(paper rustling)
It's a shame he takes all
this shit for granted.
- You're a musician, right?
- Yes sir, I am.
- [Keshon] And how long
you been doin' this?
- I started at 16, got
caught when I was 19,
served my time, this is my
first gig since I got out.
What about you?
- Two years, good gig,
quickly pays enough to
support the whole family.
- Family?
- Yeah, my mom and my little sister.
Trying to get us a bigger place.
You know I get a bigger
bonus if we get that whiskey.
- [Abby] Jessie's storming
out the studio, again.
- Lay low.
- [Abby] I'll talk to you later, bye.
(door opening)
(Abby gasps)
- Howdy, ma'am?
- [Abby] You're the delivery guy.
- No ma'am, no ma'am.
- Yes you are, you're the mega fan.
- Whoa whoa whoa, miss,
hold on now, just calm down.
- Do not come any closer!
- Miss, calm down now.
(light music continues)
I'm an investigative
journalist, all right?
Now you might know us,
we broke the story on
the Megan Barry affair.
- You did?
- Yes ma'am, and we're
actually runnin' a story
on mister Greengrass.
- What'd he do?
(light music continues)
- What do you think he did?
- Where do I start?
- Miss, would you happen to be open
to a confidential interview?
- He hired me at 18 because
he wanted to sleep with me.
I wouldn't touch him,
but, I was good at my job,
so he kept me around.
God knows why I put up with
him, the tantrums, the insults,
and it's all because he can't sing.
- All right, hold on, what do you mean?
- He sounds like shit.
(light music)
Think about "Crying Cowboy".
He talks all the lyrics,
and his voice is getting worse as he ages,
which leads to more meltdowns.
- All right, off the record,
you wanna get out from under him, right?
- I do, the guy's crazy.
- And how far would you go to do that?
- I don't know, I can't lose my job.
- I'm gonna level with you miss,
we've got our eyes on
something Jessie might have,
it's a, rare bottle of whiskey.
- The Carson Fish one?
- That's the one.
You got any idea on whether
or not he still has it?
- He won't shut up about it,
he collects country music memorabilia.
- I was hoping to get my hand on it.
- I don't think he'd sell it.
- I wasn't looking to buy it, so.
- I'm sorry, what kinda
journalist are you?
- I'm not.
(light music)
I'm what I like to call, a, retriever.
Now look ma'am, we will pay you 50 grand
if you help us get that bottle.
Now that should be well enough
for you to leave him behind for good.
- $50,000?
- Yes ma'am.
- Well, would it be dangerous?
- No ma'am, all we need is
your insight, that's all.
- $50,000 would change my life.
- All right, help me help you.
- God, I've always
wanted to screw him over,
if I could do that without
him noticing it, and get paid?
(light music continues)
I'm in.
- Great, now first things first.
(car door closing)
I'm gonna need you to figure
out where he keeps that bottle.
- Hey, is your dad home? (Callie gasping)
Whoa, didn't mean to scare you.
- He will be back any second,
he went to get barbecue.
- Of course he did.
(footsteps receding)
(tense music)
(tense music continues)
- Freeze, scumbag!
(Abby shouts)
(Abby sighs)
- Damn it.
- Abby Grace, I thought you be a burglar,
I was gonna get to use this.
- Didn't Callie tell you I was here?
- No, something's up
with her, I don't know,
she ain't hardly looked at me all week.
- Girls that age are fickle. (Abby sighs)
- Yeah, tell me, what
does that mean, fickle?
- Nevermind, your collection caught my eye
on the way to the bathroom.
- Seen all this shit before.
- No, that mandolin is new.
- Oh yeah, (Jessie laughs) that's true,
that's the one that Brighton Carter played
on his run with Garth.
- So, what about that old whiskey?
- Carson Fish one?
I ain't tellin' you,
it's too damn valuable.
Come on, food's gettin' cold.
(footsteps receding)
- It looks like Harwitch is available.
- Harwitch, which one is that?
- Where we did "Crying Cowboy".
- Yeah, but ain't that
place like super small?
I got bathrooms bigger than that.
- We had to pay off Blue Bird,
there wasn't much left in the budget.
- Well why don't we just
finish at Blue Bird then?
- Too late, I already canceled.
- Well how about I take
you outta the budget?
(Callie laughs)
- Wouldn't do much, since
I'm cheaper than the crap
you just bought for your collection.
- Brighton's mandolin maybe,
but I didn't pay for the whiskey,
I won that, a poker match,
just like Carson Fish himself.
Well, it was poker and a,
little bit of a fist fight.
- A fist fight?
- Yeah, fist fight.
- What's it worth?
- I don't know, much
probably, more than you got,
100 grand at least.
- You know, you could
use that kinda money.
- I ain't sellin' it,
it's coolest piece I got.
- Look, the royalties aren't
coming in like they used to,
you haven't toured in, three years.
Between your collection,
your squatted truck,
the mortgage, and your
online poker, I think maybe.
- Damn it!
I swear, these ads are rigged,
that's a fourth one in a row.
Will you please also stop
trying to be my accountant?
I hired you to be an assistant,
so, how about you assist, right
now with my mental health,
'cause I am frickin' losin' it.
That's four in a row, four
in a row, (Jessie laughs)
okay, a full house meets
a straight, who knew?
I ain't sellin' it, okay?
Drop it.
I'll be in my bed, for
the rest of the day,
and not playing poker anymore.
(footsteps receding)
- Hey, so where's he keep that whiskey?
- In mama's old safe, in the music room,
same place he keeps this.
Don't tell him, I'm not supposed
to have it til my birthday.
- It's in is safe in his music room.
- When can we come get it?
- We have a leave block at Harwitch,
five to 11 PM on weekdays.
- Okay great, while y'all
recordin', we'll swing by.
- Few problems, first, his
daughter comes and goes
whenever she wants.
We can't guarantee she won't be there,
and there's no point in sneaking past her,
she's a handful, just like
her dad, especially recently.
Second, Jessie hasn't pushed a
recording session since 2015,
he's either hungry, or he's tired,
or he throws a tantrum and goes home,
and, you don't want him
catching you, he is a gun freak.
(Abby laughs) He'd shoot
you before calling the cops.
- Well he's real insecure, huh?
What if we just had a musician come in
that he really admires?
You know, stroke his ego, tell
him how amazing he sounds.
- He'd stay all night for that.
- Okay, do you know anyone he admires?
- Easy, Brighton Carter,
asked him to collaborate five times.
- I'm sorry, the Brighton Carter?
- Brighton who?
- He's been the best studio
guitarist in Nashville
since he's 15-years-old,
he's recorded with damn
near all the greats.
- And Jessie thinks
he's one of the greats,
Brighton disagrees, he's
gonna take a lotta convincing.
- Well, lucky for us,
I'm a convincing guy.
(vehicles whirring)
(people talking indistinctly)
(money rustling)
(footsteps approaching)
- Hey man, if you're here for
poker, you just missed it,
probably better you did anyway,
just cleaned everyone out.
- I'm Tyson Richmond,
Abby Grace Patterson said you'd be here.
- Who?
- Jessie Greengrass' assistant.
- Greengrass, untalented
prick, what's he want?
- Well, he's recordin' a
new album, and well, he--
- All right listen,
I told him I'm not workin' with him, yeah.
He walks around like he's Johnny Cash,
untalented, one hit wonder hack.
I'm surprised he ain't broke yet.
- He's not like that.
- Listen mate, unless you
have a whole lotta money,
I'm not interested.
- This ain't your typical studio session,
mister Carter, come on.
(Tyson clicks tongue)
(footsteps receding)
- So, you want me to wank his ego?
- Yeah, just make him feel
good so he don't leave.
- Why don't you want him leaving?
- Well, between you and me,
(sirens beeping)
I'm an investigative journalist,
and we're runnin' a story on Jessie.
- No shit, what'd he do?
- Well I can't say.
- It's kids, isn't it?
Please tell me it's kids.
- I can't say.
(Brighton sighs)
- Well, I would like to
see him crash and burn,
that's for sure.
- Oh well great, then
we're gonna need you there,
'cause you are about the only
person he'll stick around for.
- All right, what's the pay out?
(light music)
- See, this isn't exactly
a, payout situation.
- Bollocks, everything's
a payout situation mate,
gotta fund this bloody poker habit.
- Well Jessie will pay
your usual studio fee,
and we'll make sure
that song gets corrupted
so you ain't gotta have your
pretty little name on it.
- Don't low ball me, mate, yeah?
I want my session fee plus 10 grand.
(sirens beeping)
- Buddy, you see this here car?
It's got a cassette player.
You think I got 10 grand to give you?
- Look, it's that, or I'm out.
- I'll make it happen.
- Make it happen.
(light music)
- [Tyson] All right, so
the heist itself is simple,
replace the whiskey with a
decoy and leave no trace.
Now I'll make two, just in case.
- [Abby] Why two?
- [Tyson] Shit happens, and bottles break.
Now one will go with me,
and one stays in the car.
- [Keshon] I think his daughter goes out
every night until midnight,
looks like she's avoiding her dad.
- [Abby] I'll put one of his
AirTag GPS things in her purse
so we can keep an eye on her location.
- [Tyson] All right, anyone
else we need to know about?
- [Abby] No, he's been a
loner since the divorce.
- Two royal flushes in a row?
Freaking app is rigged, man!
- [Abby] Thanks to the
spending and gambling,
the cleaning lady and I
are the last on payroll.
- I ain't never gettin' it
back, I ain't gettin' it back.
- [Tyson] Okay, what'd you
find out about the safe?
- [Abby] It's a hand-me-down,
so it's big, old,
and too heavy to move, it's a
1962 Mount Haven super safe.
- [Tyson] Oh great, old
safes are easy to crack,
I'll find one to practice with.
- I can't deactivate the security system
without him noticing,
but there's no sensor
on the kitchen window,
he likes to keep it open in the fall,
and that'll be your way in.
- [Tyson] Then we're
gonna have to lay low.
Now Brighton will show up
to the studio at seven,
and he'll stroke Jessie's
ego until we're done.
Now remember, Brighton has
no idea what we're doing,
so be careful.
- Sounds easy enough.
(light music continues)
- Which is exactly why
we gotta be vigilant,
'cause I sure as shit
ain't going back to prison.
- You won't, (Abby laughs)
Jessie would kill you first.
- Oh, I'd kick his ass before he could.
- Man, a few more days,
and we're all gonna be
a hell of a lot richer.
- I cannot wait to finally get
away from Jessie Greengrass.
- I'm ready to get my
family out that apartment.
- You know what,
(light music continues)
to us, your freedom, your
family, Keshon, hell, my music.
Ain't lookin' ain't
lookin' back ain't lookin'
(footsteps approaching)
Ain't lookin' back ain't lookin'
- Where you going?
Ain't lookin' back
- Out.
(hair dryer whirring)
- When will you be home?
- Ew, what are you my dad?
Late!
(footsteps receding)
(footsteps approaching)
(light music)
Jessie?
What are you doing?
- What does it look like I'm doing, dummy?
- You can't be drunk when Brighton--
- Little late for that.
Tell him I wanna reschedule.
- We can't afford that.
What's wrong?
- I don't know, I just,
he's just so, (Jessie sighs)
you know, the whole big
big shit Brighton, I don't.
- If it's about you
singing in front of him.
- It ain't about that!
(light music continues)
Not singing in front of anybody.
(glass clinking)
- He said he thinks
you're one of the greats.
- He said that?
- Yeah.
He said, "Crying Cowboy"
is one of his favorite
songs of all time.
- Hell yeah, I mean that makes sense,
but like, if that's the case,
then why did he turn me
down like five times, huh?
- You'll have to ask him.
- All right, yeah.
Let me shit, shower, and shave,
and we can, be on our way.
(tense music)
(footsteps approaching)
(guitar case clinking)
- Where is everyone?
Is Jessie here yet?
(worker laughs)
(sirens beeping)
- What you thinkin' about?
- Prison.
- I don't know why I have to
show up in this stupid ting.
Wanted to show him my truck,
I just got it squatted.
- You're tipsy and I won't
drive a squatted truck.
- Well then ride shawty
in my squatted truck.
(phone beeping)
Just got custom coils on
it, neon's underneath,
he ain't gonna know, I'm gonna
have to show him on my phone.
- Every session ends in a tantrum,
he's fired me like 10 times.
- Not too fond of him, are you?
- Who is?
- Tell me something mate, is he broke?
He's gotta be broke by now.
- He's getting there.
He blows all of his money playing poker.
- Poker player, is he?
- A bad one, he lost a fortune
playing to Willie Nelson,
and now he's, practicing online.
(phone dinging)
- Gotta take this mate.
- Yeah.
(guitar clinking)
- I was never here.
(vehicle rumbling)
(lock beeping)
- They wanna make everything illegal,
you can't have a squatted truck anymore,
'cause that's supposedly dangerous,
and so is drinkin' and drivin'.
(phone dinging)
- All right, it's time.
(keys clinking)
- Not getting cold feet?
- Oh.
Just pre game nerves.
(vehicle rumbling)
(light music)
Alarm goes off at a quarter to five
Throw on a shirt and
some jeans and my boots
And then it's time to
make that mornin' drive
I work all day til I'm totally beat
Alarm goes off in the mornin'
and the cycle's complete
Work sleep repeat
Yeah work sleep work sleep
it's all I ever do anymore
Work sleep work sleep work sleep
Somewhere off the line I
forgot what I was workin' for
All I ever do is work sleep repeat
- It doesn't look like Brighton's
here. (car door closing)
- Seriously, showing
up late to his session?
Amateur.
(light music)
It's un freaking believable, man.
We're paying all this
money, I am losing my ass,
and he can't even bother
to show up no time?
(Jessie sighs) Amateur hour, man.
What am I doing, interrupting
tea time, or some shit?
(door opening)
- Hello lads.
(guitar case clinking)
- Hey, well thanks for,
finally accepting my invite.
- Yeah, well, sorry it took so long,
but, it's business and all that, you know.
- Yeah, I know it. (Jessie laughs)
Abby Grace here tells me
that you're, a big fan,
especially of "Crying Cowboy".
- Yeah yeah, it's.
Crying cowboy you
Great tune mate, just, legendary.
Let's make another one, yeah?
- Yeah, let's make some bangers, buddy.
- [Brighton] Make some bangers,
make some bangers and mash
mate, you know what I'm sayin'?
- Should've been a doctor.
(tense music)
(papers thudding)
(bottle thudding)
(tense music continues)
Baby girl let me say I
love you til a lighter day
Really don't seem rude I
can tell ya I ain't no prude
- Oi mate, hey.
- It's not, I don't know man,
I don't know.
- Listen mate,
it sounds good, it sounds good,
it's simple, it's catchy, yeah.
I just thought maybe we
could do a little thing
underneath it, like maybe.
(Brighton playing guitar)
- Yeah all right, yeah yeah yeah.
(upbeat music)
- I wanna get a selfie in
the middle of the road,
so just like, be ready.
- Why the middle of the road?
- Well, I want all the
signs to be symmetrical.
- Okay.
(phone dinging)
- Oh my god.
- What?
- Oh my god, ew, ew, ew,
ew, ew, ew, ew, ew, ew.
- What?
- Oh my god.
That creep from the bar
put a tracker in my purse!
- Oh my god, ew.
- Gross,
that pervert
- Piece of shit.
- That piece of shit, pervert!
- [Riley] Disgusting.
- What if it wasn't him?
- What do you mean?
- What if like, someone
else is stalking me,
or it's been in my purse for
like three days or something?
- That would be, terrifying.
- Let's go home.
- Already?
I really wanna go to Tin Roof.
- No no, I'm getting
like really freaked out.
- There's no reason to--
- No, I've already
had a hard enough week
this week okay, I just,
please just go home.
- This week, did you?
- Yeah.
Can we just go home?
- Of course, I'll call an Uber.
(footsteps receding)
(device clinking)
(tense music)
- Oh, oh shit.
- Did you get it?
- Bingo.
(Keshon laughs)
- Damn that was fast, come
on, let's get outta here.
- What?
- [Keshon] Let's go.
- Look, that was just the first number.
I just wanna buy a truck with you
Buy a house with you
build a life with you
And keep on making love to you
(headphones clinking)
- What the hell's so funny?
I'm in there pourin' out
my dang heart and soul,
you in here laughing.
- No no, mate mate mate mate,
I wasn't having a laugh at you.
- Man, what's up with you dude?
You come in late, you can't
even hit those notes man,
you ain't hit those notes since puberty,
what, when you was
10-years-old, you big freak.
- Mate mate mate, listen, wasn't
laughing at you, I promise.
- Whiskey break?
- Yes, I will get some glasses.
Jessie, he was laughing at a joke I made.
- About me.
- No, about, buying a truck for my ex.
- Talk about, you ruined the take, Abby.
- Yeah, the bloody good take as well.
- Don't help me,
a bloody good take too,
that's what he said.
- Yeah, it's great mate,
with the falsetto, and the.
I just wanna buy a truck
with you buy a house with you
- Yeah, I thought it, I felt.
- Great mate.
- I felt good
at first and now, (Jessie
mumbling) I'll lose my mind.
(tense music)
(vehicle rumbling)
- [Riley] Do you want me to come in?
- No my dad will kill me, I'm fine.
Maybe just don't leave til I, get inside.
- Totally, text when you're good.
- Okay.
- Okay.
- Yeah.
(tense music continues)
- Shit, his daughter's home.
- What?
The hell, why didn't
Abby Grace say anything?
(car door opening)
(car rumbling)
(car door closing)
- Keep workin', I'll handle it.
- No, we gotta bail.
(gun clicking)
What the hell are you doing?
- You gotta make sure
Quigley gets that bottle, or.
- Or what?
Keshon, or what?
- Look, trust me, okay?
Leaving without that whiskey
bottle is not a option.
(gun clicking)
- No, we're leaving
right now, Keshon, what?
God damn it. (Tyson sighs)
(tense music continues)
(door opening)
I'm a bad bad bitch a class sexy witch
I'm a bad bad bitch
a classy sexy witch
I'm a bad bad bitch
- Don't scream!
(Callie screaming)
Stop stop stop, or I'll
kill you right now.
- Who are you, what do you
want, what do you want?
- Hold still.
(tense music continues)
(bag thudding)
(upbeat music)
I got myself I got myself
(light music)
(Jessie and Brighton sighing)
- That's great.
- You a whiskey snob?
- Yeah mate, it's all I drink.
- You wanna see somethin' cool?
- Yeah.
- [Jessie] Check that out.
- No way.
- Yeah.
- Is that?
- I won it, I won it in a poker match.
It turned into a bit of a fist fight,
but you know how it is.
- It's just like, Carson Fish.
Mate, I have to see this bottle.
That is music, poker, and whiskey history.
- We'll go by the house
after we wrap. (Abby laughs)
(light music continues)
- Nah, I'm tired, you tired?
- Yeah.
- Yeah, we just, we can take you then,
it's just right around the corner.
- We can't afford another session.
- Oh nonsense, hey,
I'll come back for free
if it means I can see this bottle.
- "Nonsense", he says.
We're goin', so get your keys.
- Let's do it, mate.
- What are you doing?
- Look, don't worry, we won't
go anywhere else, all right?
- That wasn't the deal.
- That bottle is worth a fortune,
a lot more than 10 grand,
so unless you've got a lot more to pay me.
- We can't let him go to the house.
- What paper did you say this was for,
big paper, lotta money?
- It's, it.
- What paper?
Listen, here's the deal,
you clear your people out, and
I won't say anything, yeah?
- That's not.
- Good.
(light music)
(upbeat music)
- Riley's calling, who is that?
- One of my girlfriends.
(doorbell dinging)
- Shit.
(phone beeping)
- Yeah hey, we're in deep shit right now,
his daughter came home early.
- What, that's impossible.
- Yeah, well Keshon's got
her at gun point right now,
and I ain't even halfway done.
- Shit!
You guys gotta get outta there,
Jessie and Brighton are
gonna be there in 10 minutes.
- What, what happened?
- I was flustered,
and I forgot the name of
the fake newspaper, and.
- All right, well, Keshon's gone off book,
and he said leavin' ain't an option.
- Wait, Callie knows the code,
she steals stuff in there all the time.
- [Callie] Don't tell, I'm
not supposed to have it
til my birthday.
- Okay, I can use that.
We're gonna need to keep
her mouth shut though,
you got any dirt on her?
- Noting she can't trace back to me.
- She's been avoiding her dad, right?
(tense music continues)
And been acting weird all week?
- [Abby] Yes, but I don't know why.
- That might just be enough.
I used to be pretty damn
good at this. (Tyson sighs)
All right, here goes nothin'.
(door opening)
- Hey, are you okay?
You never texted me.
- Yeah, sorry, I just, I
got distracted, I'm safe.
- Are you okay?
- Yeah, just really weird week.
- Poor thing, I can come in
if you want--
- No no, it's okay,
I'll talk to you tomorrow.
- Are you sure?
- Yeah, 100%, I'll talk to you tomorrow.
(tense music continues)
(vehicle rumbling)
- So this bottle,
(light music)
said you won it in a poker game, yeah?
- Yes sir, fair and square.
- Mate, between legends
like you and Carson Fish,
it's, becoming a bit of
a tradition, isn't it?
- Yeah, I guess at this point, it is.
- What if I were to challenge
you to a poker game for it?
- Well, no man, I just got it.
- Oh, come on, we'd be like
Bill Preston and Carson Fish,
you and me.
- You want me
to show you this thing or not man?
'Cause you're startin' to
kinda press my buttons.
- Come on mate, I'm only joking.
(light music continues)
(Jessie laughs)
- Yeah.
(tense music)
(footsteps approaching)
(Keshon sighs)
- Don't move.
(tense music continues)
What?
- Brighton and Jessie are
on their way home right now.
- Shit.
- Now, they're 10 minutes
away, but look, I got a plan.
Yeah, it's just, got a little shaky.
- Okay.
- But, think it might
be in our best interest
if we get the hell outta here.
- Wait, are you crazy?
That's not a option.
- Why not?
She hasn't seen our faces yet.
- Look, I didn't wanna scare you, okay,
but, Quigley's prepared to get violent
if he doesn't get that bottle.
- What, hold on, don't you do
all his violent work for him?
(Keshon sighs)
- Yeah, and, I don't wanna do that.
(tense music continues)
- You wouldn't, would you?
- Look, if there's a
way to get that whiskey,
then let's get it.
- All right, follow my lead,
act like you know somethin'.
(footsteps approaching)
(tense music)
(Callie panting)
Hi sweetheart.
Up here.
I said up here.
Hey, my partner here would
like to get in your safe,
and something tells me,
you know the combination.
So, what might that be?
- The safe, what safe?
- Oh that is classic.
(Tyson slaps hand)
Now I know a hell of a lot
more than you think I do,
so I'm gonna ask you
one more god damn time!
- Okay, yeah, I know
the combination, I know.
- Oh, that's more like it.
So here's what's gonna happen,
you're gonna tell me the combination,
and you're not gonna tell a
single soul I was here, right?
Right.
(tense music continues)
(Callie whimpering)
Know how I know you won't tell?
Because we've had people
watching you, your dad,
your dad's assistant, your
cleaning lady, and we know all
about why you've been
avoiding your dad lately.
- What are you talking about?
No, I'll open the safe,
I'll do whatever you want,
I swear, I swear, I haven't
been avoiding anyone.
- She swears.
(Keshon laughs)
Well if she swears,
then she must be telling the truth, right?
(gun clicking)
Let's see if you can find
some physical evidence.
- No no no.
- Check her bathroom,
or bedroom, yeah,
take her purse--
- No no no,
no no no please please.
- That's a great idea.
- Please don't go there,
I told you every--
- While we wait, I just got one question
that has just been eatin' me alive,
(tense music continues)
why'd you do it?
- Do what?
You're insane!
- Oh (Tyson laughs) I guess I can just,
text your dad real quick,
I'm sure there's pre--
- No no no, no no no,
please please, please,
please, please don't.
- Why not?
You weren't telling a farce, were ya?
- No, he's super mad that,
and, if he finds out,
I'll be kicked outta the
will, and he'll throw me out.
(Callie crying)
- Then what's the lay of
the land, little lady?
- Five, 19, 32.
(light music)
- All right, you find anything?
- Oh, I found a Wii vape,
a receipt to the gay bar,
and a pamphlet on after abortion care.
- I'll be damned, that's it.
Dangle it in front of her,
actually, matter of fact,
dangle all three of 'em in front of her.
We got five minutes.
(footsteps approaching)
(energetic music)
- Your dad would be so
disappointed in you.
A gay bar receipt with
your card number on it,
a pamphlet with a after abortion
care with your name on it.
(safe clicking)
(Tyson laughs)
- Bingo.
I am to damn good.
(bottle clinking)
- So mate, I've got 10
grand on the table yeah,
and I'm a gun guy like you, yeah?
- Yeah yeah, so so what'd you do?
- Which one did you say
your house is, mate?
- Right, there you see?
- Yeah.
- So come on, what'd you do, you win?
- Mate, have you ever
had big smack whiskey?
- No, I ain't never tried it.
- Mate, you've gotta have it, yeah?
Listen, why don't I drop you off?
I'm gonna run up to the
bottle shop and get one yeah,
and then, I'll come back,
we'll do a nice friendly
no stakes poker game.
- Hell yeah.
- Let's do it.
(car door closing)
- I'll get it set up.
- All right, mate.
(car door closing)
- You bloody. (Brighton
talking indistinctly)
(footsteps approaching)
- We got it, let's go!
Jessie's here already.
- Shit.
- Hell yes, Brighton
Carter, Jessie Greengrass,
stars aligning baby, you're back on top.
- You won't tell my dad, right?
He's super religious.
- I won't, as long as you keep
your pretty little mouth of yours shut.
(Keshon laughs)
- Okay just, leave me alone!
- It's the thing man,
you were so freaked out,
scared as hell, turns out he
likes you pretty freakin' nice.
Know who you are, Jessie.
(footsteps approaching)
I show off my game room, make some tea,
and whiskey cocktails,
it's kinda like meetin'
a real life Beetle.
(energetic music continues)
(footsteps approaching)
You all right baby girl?
- Oh, I was just on the
phone with some jerk.
(Callie laughs)
- It was no boy, was it?
(crickets chirping)
- Hello lads, just wanted to apologize.
Jessie had this bottle, I just had to see.
- Is that right?
- Yeah, rare bottle,
one anyone would kill
to get their hands on.
You're gonna need better
poker faces than that.
Empty the bags.
- Don't know what you're talkin' about.
- Maybe I'm wrong.
Empty the bags and I'll be on my way.
(light music)
Empty 'em, now.
- Go ahead, take it, we
don't need it anyways.
- You too mate, come on.
(bag thudding)
(bag rustling)
- Oh yeah, (Brighton laughs) oh yeah,
you two have just made me a very rich man.
Come by the pool hall on
a night for some poker
if you ever wanna try
to win it back, yeah?
(truck door closing)
Not likely.
- Roll down your window,
told you we needed a backup, watch this.
Hey Brighton, told you didn't
need it. (Tyson laughs)
- Fucking hell.
- I'll make two just in case.
(keys clinking)
(vehicle rumbling)
(upbeat music)
I think he bought it.
And if he did, we might
still have a chance.
Well, if we're gonna cut our losses,
(Tyson laughs) now might be the time.
Now I'm not really trying
to go back to prison.
- Pull over.
- What?
- Now!
(vehicle rumbling)
(crickets chirping)
We ain't cuttin' no losses, got it?
I warned you,
Quigley needs that bottle
and I need that money.
I've been hustlin' for
too long, understand?
I like you Tyson, I really, I really do,
so don't make this hard.
- The hell with this shit.
(vehicle dinging)
(truck door closing)
- Where you goin'?
(truck door closing)
- I'm done, I never
needed the money anyways,
I guess I just, thought I deserved it
after everything I've been through.
(gun clicking)
(gun firing)
- You ain't done.
Don't you think my family
deserves that money,
that we deserve not to
live on top each other?
That Abby Grace deserve to
get away from that psycho,
Jessie Greengrass after all
these years of harassment?
- You wouldn't hurt me.
- I'm sorry, there's no friends
in this business, really.
- Did Quigley tell you
to make this violent,
or was that your idea?
- I'm doing this for a
good reason, for my family,
for my mama, my sister.
- Yeah, I'm real
disappointed in you, Keshon.
- What, I'm guessing
that's not good of a reason
as, because I just wanna be a musician.
(Keshon laughs) Come on,
Tyson, give me a break.
- All right, fair.
Okay, I got an idea on how
we can get that bottle back,
but it's gonna be risky.
- Whatever it takes.
(light music)
- All right.
I'll go and call Abby Grace.
(vehicle whirring)
- Hey, did you make it out?
- [Tyson] Sort of,
Brighton has the bottle,
and Jessie has a decoy.
- What, how did that happen?
- [Tyson] I'll explain later.
Now listen, I have a plan,
but I need you to do a few things first.
(light music)
(bottle clinking)
(safe thudding)
- Hey mate, got the good stuff.
(glass clinking)
- Hell yeah, brother.
- So let's see it.
- Just got it out. (Jessie sighs)
- Wow.
- Yeah, what'd you think about that huh?
(Jessie laughs)
- It's beautiful, only one problem.
(bottle clinking)
Got one just like it.
- Where the Sam hill did you get that?
- I won it in a poker game, just like you.
- You've got to be kidding me.
- Wish I was, that's why
I had to see yours, mate,
I didn't believe you.
- All right, so which
one of us got the fake?
- Maybe both, I know another bloke
who's got one as well, amateur musician.
- Another one, a third?
(light music continues)
(Jessie laughs) I guess
we gotta find some way
to settle this then, don't we?
(footsteps approaching)
- Settle what?
- You ain't gonna believe this shit,
Brighton, he got the
same damn bottle I got,
one of us got a decoy, maybe
both of us, I don't know.
- Oh no.
- I gotta piss.
- First door on the right.
(footsteps receding)
You said you won this
in a poker game, right?
That might be a good way to settle it.
(Jessie sighs)
- Yeah, it's just, I've been
on a bit of a losing streak.
(birds chirping)
- That's the plan?
- Yep.
- Do you even know how to play poker?
- Doesn't matter, they do.
And besides, it ain't about the game,
it's about history repeating itself.
- Okay so, won't they just, get a expert
to look at the bottle and tell 'em?
- [Tyson] They won't.
- How do you know?
- It's like that pain in your chest
that you can't get rid of,
you know you should get
a doctor to look at it,
but you don't,
'cause you're too scared
of what they'll tell ya.
- What the fuck?
- They don't wanna know the answer,
'cause once that bottle's a
certified decoy, it's worthless.
(phone beeping)
All right, what'd you find out?
- [Abby] Brighton doesn't
know if his is a decoy or not,
neither does Jessie.
- Yeah, what about the poker?
- [Abby] Yeah, he loved it,
and of course, told
Brighton it was his idea.
- Sounds like a good horse to me.
(light music)
We might just pull this off.
A decoy, how?
- Yeah, I don't know, but, this
poker match will settle it.
(glass clinking)
Texas hold 'em, six
games, winner take all.
(people talking indistinctly)
- You, me, and Brighton Carter?
- Yep, I got a dealer,
from the casino on the
border that'll run it,
and I know a place.
- You mind if I speak
to Brighton real quick?
- Now let me get this right,
you want me to risk my
bottle in the game of poker?
- Look man, I don't have the
cash to buy it out right, but--
- I think you better sweeten the pot.
- Well you're a musician, yeah?
How about 50 grand, and
studio time with me?
- 50 grand, 50 grand?
You're gonna have to do
a lot better than that,
'cause this bottle's worth a
hell of a lot more than that.
Now I want 100 grand
to show up, all right?
Yeah, 100 grand if I win,
and double that if I lose,
plus the studio time.
- How out 50 grand, and
I'll get someone to hurt you
if you don't show up?
(light music continues)
- You threatening me?
- You wanna find out?
It's what I thought.
Fuck.
(light music)
(footsteps approaching)
- [Abby] What exactly is your plan?
- [Tyson] Once I'm there,
the idea is simple,
let history repeat itself.
How that's gonna happen, the
conditions need to be right.
(dramatic music)
(door closing)
My, some place y'all got here.
(footsteps approaching)
- You have a nice drive mate, yeah,
taking a piss, wanking off?
- Matter of fact, I did.
Jessie, (Tyson laughs) so
good to finally meet you.
Say, I was a huge fan.
- Was?
- Oh yeah, "Crying Cowboy"'s
a certified classic.
Say, you made any music since then?
- Since then, (Jessie laughs)
as a matter of fact, I have.
Actually working on an album right now,
I got Brighton here playing on it.
- Is that right?
- That's right.
(dramatic music continues)
- Well, business is slow, isn't it mate?
- Mate, can we just play some cards?
- What's that supposed to mean, huh?
- [Brighton] Yeah, stop tossing around.
- Sure.
And who are you?
- Who am I? (dealer laughs)
Who the fuck are you?
You're fuckin' late, that's what you are.
(bottle clinking)
- [Tyson] That poker
game is just a set up,
you know, just a way to
get the tensions high,
to get 'em all good and pissed.
- Game's Texas hold 'em,
we're gonna play to six games,
chip leader at the end
gets all three bottles.
(chair squeaking)
- Now hold on, before we start,
I'd like my payment up front.
- Payment?
- Are you serious?
- [Jessie] What the
hell's he talkin' about?
- Oh, Brighton here promised
me 50 grand just to show up.
- What the hell would you do that for?
- 'Cause I'm pretty damn certain
my bottle here's the real deal.
(chair squeaking)
(check thuddin)
(Tyson laughs)
A check?
I ain't takin' that shit,
(light music)
unless you wanna double it.
- [Abby] He won't rat you out to Jessie
for robbing his house.
- I know what you're bloody doing, mate.
- [Abby] Otherwise, he has to admit
that his bottle was never really his.
- [Tyson] Right, I have
the upper hand here.
(light music)
Now as for the poker itself,
it'll be easier if I win,
and toughest if Brighton wins,
but, I do what I can to steer the game.
(light music continues)
- [Abby] I've seen Jessie play enough
to know that he drinks
when he likes his cards,
the better he does, the worse
he has to pee by the end.
(light music continues)
(light music continues)
- All right Brokeback, show 'em.
That's a full house,
pot goes to Brokeback.
- [Tyson] And winning also helps,
because it pisses them the hell off.
- Whatever.
- It's a marathon, I
ain't worried about it.
(light music continues)
Yeah, dang, you stupid fllippin' game.
(chair squeaking)
(chips clinking)
- That puts me ahead, boys.
- [Tyson] I do whatever I
can to get under their skin.
Chat, splash the pot, make accusations.
- Game three, show 'em.
(chair squeaking)
- [Dealer] Four of a
kind, Brighton wins again.
- Lucky shit, almost like
he knew what was comin'.
- Yeah, what's that supposed to mean?
- Well, you just so happen
to have the only hand
that could be my goddamn straight,
you put the pieces together.
(chips clinking)
- You callin' me a cheat?
- If the shoe fits.
- Guys!
We playing poker, or what?
(light music continues)
Fuckin' relax.
Game six, y'all seem
pretty evenly matched,
here's the river.
- Wow.
You know what they say boys,
(light music)
go big or go home, right?
(chips clicking)
- You bloody serious?
- Undo the last five games, why don't you?
- Oh, you set the rules,
you can fold if you'd like.
- All in.
(light music continues)
- All in.
- All right, show 'em.
- [Tyson] And once the
winner is announced,
and tensions are suitably
high, history repeats itself.
(Brighton laughs)
- Are you bloody serious?
All in on junk?
Beautiful.
- Two pairs, pot goes to Brighton.
- Oh yeah, looks like that
whiskey's all mine, isn't it?
I mean you had it, right
there in your grasp,
and you let it slip right through,
oh that's gotta grind your gears mate,
that's gotta get to ya.
And now it's all mine, not yours it--
(Jessie shouting)
- Shut the fuck up already!
Gonna grind his gears,
my gears are ground down
to a goddamn powder.
I'm losin' to that fuckin' Jake
Gyllenhaal's ass over here.
Sorry, I ain't no Heath Ledger buddy,
but, you still fucked
me all game, didn't ya?
Now I tried to like you,
I tried to like you buddy,
I really wanted to be besties
with y'all, I tried my best.
I appreciate y'all comin' out,
but I'm taking these bottles,
and I'm gonna go home, I'm
gonna take a nap, all right?
(hands thudding)
(bottles clinking)
- Sorry mate, can't let that happen.
(Jessie groaning)
- Damn it.
(upbeat music)
(chips clinking)
- Oh my god!
- [Abby] Jessie won't
last in a fist fight.
- [Tyson] Right, then that
leaves me and Brighton.
- Look mate, don't make this difficult,
I won fair and square and you know it.
- I hate to break it to you buddy,
but this, this ain't how it ends.
Fish and Preston settled in a fist fight.
- Yeah mate, well I
ain't Carson Fish, am I?
- Yeah no shit, you're
more of an act musician
than a bitch if I ever seen one,
let's be honest, those
muscles are all for show.
- You think that's wise,
mate, taunting a guy my size?
- Well let's find out.
- [Keshon] How the hell
are you gonna win a fight
against a guy that size?
- [Tyson] Weren't you there
when I got in that bar fight?
(hands thudding)
(upbeat music)
- All right mate, let's fucking go.
(hands thudding)
(Brighton groaning)
- Fuck this!
(footsteps receding)
- No you don't.
(Brighton groaning)
(Jessie talking indistinctly)
That's it mate, it's over, you've lost.
Come in here with your twat attitude,
trying to what, swing your dick around?
Well it didn't work, did it?
(Tyson groaning)
You've lost.
(Jessie crying)
Time for you to go to sleep.
It'll all be all right when you wake up,
well, except I'll have the bottle,
you'll have a nasty headache.
(Brighton laughs) It'll
be all right, won't it.
(glass thudding)
- [Tyson] Even then,
the most important thing
ain't the fight itself,
the most important thing
is knowing which of those
bottles are the decoys.
- [Keshon] How are you gonna do that?
- [Tyson] You think I'd make decoys
where I didn't know the difference?
(Jessie crying)
- It's not your fault, man,
ain't nobody else to blame but the bottle,
you gotta stop drinking man,
you gotta stop drinking, you dumb old man.
It's all your fault.
- What the fuck?
- [Jessie] You're gonna have to take out
with those $20 loans off
road cash app after this.
- It was a pleasure playing with you both.
Brighton, you're a legend,
don't forget it, and Jessie,
I really am a huge fan, for
the record, it was an honor.
- Thanks man, I appreciate that.
- And you?
Be good.
(door opening)
(footsteps receding)
(door closing)
- Jessie, what the fuck?
You said they were cool.
- Leave me alone man, I don't know nobody.
(birds chirping)
- [Martin] 200,000 to
you and 50,000 to who?
- Abby Grace Patterson.
(soft music)
- Abby Grace Patterson.
You and Keshon get along?
- Can't say tat we did.
Like I said, I like picking my own people.
- That's too bad, he called me before,
and he said it went off without a hitch.
- He tell you about the poker?
- Poker?
- You have no idea how excited.
- Hey, we were just talking
about how much you deserve that bonus.
- Oh yeah?
(soft music continues)
- And speaking of deserving.
(check rustling)
- Pleasure doing business with you.
(glass clinking)
(light music)
Good luck to you and your family.
- Good luck on the music.
(footsteps receding)
(birds chirping)
- 50,000, as promised.
- I am so glad I am finally
done with Jessie Greengrass.
- Yeah, how'd he take it?
- Horribly, it was great. (Abby laughs)
So, what's next for you?
- I don't know.
You know, I put the money in the bank,
but, I'm too chicken to
spend it. (Tyson laughs)
- Well you're, putting it
into your music, right?
- I don't know anymore.
You know I was thinking
about what Keshon said the other day,
you know about deserving it and whatnot.
- You feel like you don't deserve it?
- I mean, we all deserve
what we want, right?
I just don't think it's fair
that I got all this hot cash
and, I got everything I need right here.
- Maybe you should give it
to someone who needs it.
(birds continue chirping)
(woman with red air laughs)
- Wow, 100,000, that
is quite the donation.
(check rustling)
- Well I'm happy to help.
- Well, if there is anything
that we can do in return,
please, let us know.
- Actually, there is one thing.
(footsteps approaching)
- Hey, there's my favorite singer again.
- Hey Bobby.
- Hey, how'd that little, opportunity go?
- It went well, I actually
ran into some money.
- See, I told you it was worth the risk,
you deserve it, buddy.
- I appreciate that.
You know, Bobby, I'd actually
like to give you a gift,
if you let me.
I got some folks over
there waitin' for ya.
- It's not another stint
in that rehab shit, is it?
- It is.
(light music)
(Bobby sighs)
Bobby, there's 50 grand waiting
for you in a bank account
once you finish.
- I can't, I can't.
- Hey, look at me,
you said, and I quote, "If I
had a chance to get outta here,
"don't you think I'd take it?"
(light music continues)
- I did say that, but.
- Yeah you did.
All right.
(light music continues)
(birds chirping)
(light music continues)
(light music continues)
(light music)
(light music continues)
(light music continues)
