rescuing a family

I'm proud of everybody at my office.

That thing nearly got those kids killed.
I'm not here to Monday-morning
quarterback, Punch.
But at the end of the day,
I'm responsible.

I just wanted to say something.
So, most of you know,
when I was a kid,
my dad was sent to prison.
And I spent some time in foster care.
But this town
saved me.
Neighbors took me in.
Teachers looked out for me.
Total strangers donated
money for my care.
So I know firsthand
what this town can be.
Someone asked me recently
why I wanted to be sheriff.
The truth is, I don't.
I want to be sheriff of Edgewater.
But I'm gonna need your help.
I challenge you and me
to imagine the community that we want
and to work together
to make that happen.
Let's-let's start with those
kids that we saved today.
Their aunt is gonna take care of them,
but she can't do it alone.
Let's show that family who we are.
I got beds, barely used,
just sitting in my storage unit.
