but dating is so hard,
it's so hard.
[Jeff] I want to have somebody
who wants to take on life
and experience the
rest of life with me.
[Ashley] There are times where
I feel like I've met people
and it was just wrong
time, wrong place.
And what if there's
another way to reconnect?

[Allyssa] What if I've already met
the love of my life
and just didn't know it?
[Kasey] The fact that the love of
my life could have been
in front of me?
How could I have
missed that opportunity?
[Vince] You think about the what ifs.
And you know, what could
have been with somebody
and I have a chance
to rewrite history.

This whole experiment
is going to be a process,
but I'm ready to find the one.
I can move one
step closer to finding
that rom-com love
that I know exists,
but this could be
an utter disaster.
I think I'm 100% scared
to take risks.
These are people
from my past.
It's all about those
missed opportunities
and revisiting them
to see if there's any spark.
That's what I'm here for.
I'm trying to find
the one that got away.

But what about the millions

It's been said
that by the age of 25,
most people have
already met the one.
They just might
not know it yet.
So it's time
to try something new.
We are embarking on a new
and radical social experiment
where for the first time ever,
we will answer this question:
What if the person you're
meant to spend your future with
is from your past?
Whatever the reason
for the missed connection,
we all have that person
that makes us wonder what if?
Six lucky people
have left their lives behind
to see if this once
in a lifetime experiment
will actually work for them.
One by one, people
from their pasts
will enter through the portal
to take another chance at love.
Now, our singles have
absolutely no idea
who's coming through the portal
to try and win their hearts.
It could literally be anyone.
But in the end, the only thing
that matters is finding
The one that got away.

My name is Vince,
I'm 30 years old,
I'm an attorney, and I'm from
Palos Verdes, California.
My first relationship
was from high school.
We were together
for almost nine years.
I was always
in a relationship,
so I've always just kind
of just friend-zoned
all the girls that I've met.
But now I'm really looking from
a completely different lens.
The whole dating app thing
wasn't really my cup of tea.
There's no serendipity
behind that.
It's hard to find
that something that's rare.
And so getting this
opportunity
to meet all these people
from my past,
I'm excited
that I'm going
to meet somebody that
I'm actually like, friends with.
I want to find the person
I'm spending the rest of my life
with as soon as I can,
so I'm jumping headfirst.

My first college experience,
I was a big man on campus.
Division One athlete.
Went to a lot of parties, right?
I met a lot of women.
I definitely have made
mistakes in my past,
but I think I learned
a lot, right?
Simply because I wasn't ready
for a relationship.
I met some amazing people
in my past.
I'm excited
to have that opportunity
to look at the one
that got away.
Find that person
from the past
that saw me in
a selfish manner.
But now they'll get the
opportunity to see me
in a growing
and giving manner.

Growing up in Syracuse,
New York,
I've definitely always been
the black sheep of my family.
I grew up in a pretty
religious family,
Catholic school background.
There was zero vibe of
anybody gay anywhere
in Syracuse, New York,
when I was growing up.

I came out to my parents
after the night of
my 21st birthday.
It was really intense for me,
but since coming out,
I moved to New York
right after college
and immediately this
whole world opened up for me
and I just started exploring
with guys
in the dating apps
and the clubs.
And it was a beautiful time.
It was like
uncharted territory.

But it's been
a struggle to find somebody
I connect with
because I did, like,
repress my sexuality
for so long.
So it is like, for the first
time ever in my whole life,
I'm starting to like,
explore love, and options,
and dates,
and what do I like?
And so I think at this point,
I know what I like
and I know what I want.
And so I think this is
a good time for me
to see if I can find it.

I was always in a relationship,
so I never looked
