I can't believe
you're still using the cape,
but, at your age, the staff makes sense.

They're symbolic of my duty
to carry out the wishes of Doctor Faust.
[Mephisto III] What happened
to that monster?
[Shingo] It retreated.
That fiend was merely a shadow,
not the real target.
[Hina shuddering]

[music fades]
[Shingo] Hmm.
[ominous flourish playing]
[gasping] Ichika!

She has a fever.
[Shingo] I'll leave it to you
from here, Mephisto Three.

there's nothing wrong with her.

it's probably just exhaustion.
[Mephisto III] Then there's no need
to worry. She'll wake up soon.

- [ominous music playing]
- [Akuma] Hmm.

were just myths or fairy-tales, but--
[Akuma] They exist.
[Hina gasping]
Those guys are everywhere.
Then I didn't have a nightmare at all.

[Ichika breathing panickedly]

- [Mephisto III] Akuma Kun!

- [Akuma groaning]
Terrible news!
Ichika was attacked overnight.
Hina called and said she survived,
but her body is covered head-to-toe
in cuts and scratches.
[music fades]
[Akuma grunting]

So, was she wearing
the warding symbol, or not?
Never mind the warding symbol.
She was supposed to be protected
by the pentagram centered on her house.
[Akuma] Unless the pentagram
was upside down,
making it a mark of affliction.
It would depend on the position
of the person who drew it.
That's just common sense.
You knew this could've happened
from the beginning, didn't you?
I mean, hypothetically.
What do you mean "hypothetically?"
Less probable, but still possible.
Why didn't you say so in the first place?

- I could've stayed to protect her.
Instead of dwelling on that,

[Mephisto III seething]

[man] Apparently,

[Akuma] I see.
The Sakura Yoshikawa connection
is from Ichika Tsuchiya asking her
for advice.
That's right.
Which means that my deduction
was 100% accurate.
As expected.

demanding hotcakes,
and rambling about deductions!
[Akuma] The demon operates
out of this house,
beyond any shadow of a doubt.
Any demon that causes trouble
in the human world
must be sent back to the demon realm.
[all grunting]

[ominous music swelling]

when people are already dead.
That guy's always so darn condescending.

Like a dictator.

- [Mephisto III munching]
- [Etsuko chuckling]
[Mephisto III] I'm never working
with that jerk again.

That could definitely be a problem.
[intense rock music playing]
[demon yelling]
[Akuma groaning, struggling]
[woman cackling]
These little warding symbols of yours
are pathetically weak.
You aren't as smart as you think you are!
[Akuma yelling]
You believe you can return my beast
to the demon realm?

[Hina] Mother?

[Hina thudding]
[Akuma grunting]
[Akuma struggling] Mephisto.
[demon exclaiming]

[Mephisto III sighing]

you ought to pay him a visit.
Poor Ichiro was abandoned by humans
and raised by a demon, after all.
[Mephisto III] And then
that demon abandoned him, too. Right?

so many times, I've got it memorized.
I'm done with it! [grunting]

- [Mephisto III straining]
[Etsuko] Get going. Full steam ahead!

during my free time!
[Mephisto III straining]
[Etsuko] You haven't changed clothes.
All your stuff is there beside you.
It's obvious you're ready to go.

you'd never leave a friend in a bind.
[Mephisto III straining, grunting]
[Mephisto III gasping]
[woman] Huh?

[demon growling]

[demon yelling]

[both grunting]
When we get out of this,
you're gonna treat me to Hachiman!
And it's gonna be a bowl
of their fancy braised pork ramen!
- [woman grunting]
- [Mephisto III grunting]

[Akuma grunting]
[woman yelping, grunting]
[Mephisto III grunting, coughing]
Mephisto, we need to carry Hina.
[Mephisto III] Right!
- [Akuma] Take her to her room.
- [Mephisto III] You got it!
[woman groaning, seething]
[Mephisto III grunting]
[heavy footsteps approaching]
[grunting] Get back out here!

So, this whole time,
the demon was actually Hina's mom?
- No 'cause her mom is just the contractor.
- [woman] Hina!
She's still only human.
You would've killed her
with your powers if you'd hit her.
[Mephisto III] Really?
[banging on door]
[Hina groaning]
What are you doing here?
[gasping] What happened
to my mother and father?
[footsteps receding]
Okay, I'm getting confused.
If it wasn't her mother,
then where's the real demon?
[sighing] I don't understand any of it.
[Akuma] I'd like you to try
remembering something for me. Got it?
Let's start with this.
The space we're in is your bedroom, yeah?

Ever since I was a little girl.

since after high school graduation.
This is more like a room
for memories of someone who's died.

[Akuma] These aren't your memories,

[ominous music playing]

that possessed your father was a shadow,
and your mother is the contractor,

was suppressing the demon.

Now that she's become aware,
if we remove this warding symbol,
the demon that is suppressed
within her will awaken.

[Gremory cackling]
[Gremory] Acting as Hina's replacement
really took it out of me.
What's more, the contractor demanded
that I be "the perfect daughter."
[Akuma] Huh. I guess they were impressed
with your performance.
They really loved you.
[Gremory] Sure. But Hina's presence
was way too powerful.
I wasn't being as careful as I should've,
and she took over.
And as if that wasn't enough,
I had to pretend to be
that stupid brat Ichika's best friend.
It was horrible. I hated it.
If it was that bad, why is she blushing?
Hypothesis,
when a gluttonous demon binge-eats love
it can lead to indigestion.
[Gremory] I've never tasted love before.
I'm not used to it.
[Mephisto III] Does this mean
you were the one who attacked Hina?
[Gremory] Hina did that herself.
It was Hina who attacked that Sakura girl,
after Ichika asked her for advice.
She also attacked Ichika as well.
Stop lying!
Hina would never do that kind of thing.
Oh, but she did.
I simply gave her the push
that she needed.
[Akuma] A person has a surface character
and a hidden character.
It isn't easy for a demon
to deal with both.
- [Mephisto III] You're kidding.
- [Gremory] Dead right, as usual.
And it's the same with her mother.
Her love for her daughter was so strong
that it transformed into something
she never could've expected.
- [Hina] Leave me alone!
- [woman] Hina!
I don't know what's gotten into you!
Shut up! I don't want anything to do
with either of you!
Stop following me!
Hina, stop!
- Hina!
- [Hina] Let go!
[both struggling]
[Hina] I can't breathe.
[woman straining]
[Hina yelping] Mother [gasping]
[woman straining]
[man gasping]
[dramatic music playing]
[Akuma] Elohim, Essaim. Elohim, Essaim.
Return this demon to the hellish realm
from whence it came,
that it may no longer disrupt
the sacred harmony of creation.
[Gremory] Thanks, A-K. Later!
[officer] Step back, everyone, please.
[man] A corpse has been found!
A corpse has been found in the basement!
[officer] Please go back to your homes.
[sirens wailing]
[music fades]
[man] Here's your ramen. Enjoy!
[upbeat funky music playing]
[Mephisto III slurping]
I requested braised pork ramen.
[Akuma] I have no recollection
of you saying that.
[both slurping]
[Mephisto III] That's no way
to treat a friend.
What are you, a demon?
I'm Akuma Kun. So, yeah.
Hey, can I ask you a question, Akuma Kun?
Sure thing. Go for it.
Ichika and Hina met each other
in university, didn't they?
Yeah, that's right.
[both slurping, gulping]
[both exhaling]
[both clapping]

If that's true,
doesn't that mean it was actually Gremory
who became best friends with Ichika?
In retrospect, I guess that's right.
[Mephisto III] I see.
I suppose it's possible for humans
and demons to be friends after all.
[Akuma] Maybe.

[dog] Looks like the second Akuma Kun
has had it pretty rough up to this point.
[cat] He has the aura of someone
whose past was fraught with difficulty.
[dog] You think he's starting
his hero's journey?
[cat] Like there's an audience
following this?
Like it's got some sort of arc?
I hope he's got the motivation for it.
[dog] You'd know a thing or two
about lacking motivation,
wouldn't you, Komorineko?
[Komorineko] How dare you?
I suppose that's true lately.
Time can sneak up on you.
Back in the day, though, I was incredible!
[dog] Anyway, I'm worried about
the second Akuma Kun and Mephisto Three.
[Komorineko] Well, they'll figure it out.
At any rate,
unless the second Akuma Kun ascends
to the paradise of the Millennium Kingdom,
all of the hard work you and I
have been putting in for the last 30 years
will amount to nothing.
How depressing.
[dog] I'm sure he's already started
striving toward that lofty goal.
I mean, this is the Akuma Kun
who was raised by Akuma Kun, after all.
[Komorineko] I can't believe
that our Akuma Kun became a father,
albeit through adoption.
I meant the first Akuma Kun.
He hasn't changed at all.
Well, not that we're ones to talk.
[dog giggling] We look fabulous!
Aww, and Mephisto the Second
has sure aged gracefully!
[Komorineko] He and Etsuko
make the sweetest couple!

of when Tori-Otome and I went steady.
