City of Blood (2026) s01e04 Episode Script
Episode 4
1
[Dr. Karliczek] If your daughter
and the donor don't show up--
[Laura] We'll be there.
I'm Yassin, a friend of Phoebe's.
-I won't hurt you, okay?
-Do you know where she is?
Why exactly did you withhold
Moderson's offer from me?
Is he dictating the strategy
of our campaign?
He alone is 90% of our backing.
We know nothing about him.
-There's a blood bank underneath the Dome.
-What were you doing there?
Your department
allowed that thing to be built.
The building? Yes.
But we're not responsible
for whatever goes on there.
I have to go to the hospital.
My sister's getting my kidney.
If we don't do the surgery
-[Johan] I can't let you.
-She'll die.
[Yassin]
When did the Dome officially open?
Six months ago.
They disappeared
in the last six months.
Do you think they
have to do with the blood bank?
I'm capable of winning.
You'll enforce legalization
of the blood trade.
-Are you threatening me?
-Yeah.
What are you?
Not somebody you can just
terminate a relationship with.
[Johan] I may have an idea
of how you can save your sister.
But you're not gonna like it.
[siren wailing in distance]
FOR CHANGE
AUFBRUCH BERLIN AB!
[door opens, closes]
[sighs]
[ominous music plays]
[rattles]
You have some ammo?
-Cash, yeah?
-All good, man.
Don't mess around, okay?
Yeah, I'll try.
AUFBRUCH BERLIN AB!
WE HAVE TO AC
[upbeat music plays]
I'm about to go, you good?
[Ali] Yep, I'm fine. See you later.
What did you forget?
-We're closed.
-This won't take long.
You know her?
No.
[groans, breathes heavily]
You sure?
[breathes heavily]
-Okay, okay, okay.
-That jog your memory?
[groans] She was here yesterday.
She went through the back exit.
I don't know her, I swear.
[breathing heavily, whimpering]
Was she alone?
[whimpering]
[gasps]
[breathing heavily]
No, no.
No. No!
[groans]
[gasping in pain]
[gasping, whimpering]
[Kevin sighs]
-[sighs]
-[whimpers]
[Ali trembling breaths]
So
was she alone?
[trembling breaths]
[door closes]
[Fitz-James] Bea Hoffmann, is that you?
-Yes.
-[Fitz-James] Amazing.
These days, you become
an expert overnight.
Benjamin Fitz-James.
Yep. You'll sit here.
-I'll take that.
-Hold on--
[producer] Do you have a second?
This is the only picture
of your sister we got.
We'd like to crop it, okay?
-That work for you? Thanks.
-Mm-hmm.
[staff] Everybody set?
Hello, Bea.
Are you looking
for a career in politics?
No. Actually, I'm just here for my sister.
[Hilda] Your mom told me.
Hopefully this will help you find her.
-Hmm?
-Thank you.
-Here please. Yeah.
-Thanks.
Mr. Fitz-James,
would you like a touch-up?
-No. Thank you.
-All right.
Have a quick word
with Fitz-James after the broadcast.
-There's a chance he'll support us.
-And what about your father?
Yeah, right. Really great timing.
"Crush the elites."
He was a big fan of that.
The voters are in your corner. Hm.
-If anyone needs to be nervous, it's her.
-Mr. Lawal?
-Follow me, sir.
-Sure.
-Oliver.
-Yeah?
She's going to ask you about the slogan.
Respond like we discussed with Stella.
[sighs]
[pensive music plays]
[sighs]
[ominous music plays]
What the fuck's all this?
[items rattling]
TO MY BELOVED BROTHER
ON HIS BIRTHDAY
[Kevin] Fucking shit.
The rat is Farid's brother.
[Kim] Now what?
[Kevin]
We tell Pit that Yassin's a fucking rat.
[sighs]
[Phoebe]
What's it like knowing you can't die?
It's lonely.
My greatest fear
is not being able to feel anything.
To forget what it's like to be human.
We're not all like that.
It is difficult
but the intense craving for blood
can be conquered.
[sighs]
Just like how you can
overcome an addiction.
But the fear that the craving
will eventually overpower you
never goes away.
[pensive music plays]
[upbeat music plays]
[ball thuds]
[Hermes] Hello everyone,
and welcome, glad you're tuning in.
Today we have some truly
distinguished guests with us
to discuss a complicated topic
that concerns every one of us.
"How dangerous is Berlin?"
And now please join me
in welcoming to the studio
Prime Minister Hilda Klein from the BDP.
Glad you're here today.
-Hello.
-[Hermes] Also joining us
is Oliver Lawal from Aufbruch Berlin.
Who's widely understood to be
Parliament's second strongest candidate
and polls are showing he's the biggest
challenger to Hilda Klein.
-Good to see you, Oliver.
-Hello.
And welcome to our distinguished guest,
the renowned security expert
Benjamin Fitz-James,
he is the CEO and a founding member
of one of the largest
private security companies in the region.
Security Force Berlin.
Welcome, Mr. Fitz-James.
And last but not least, representing
the young voices of Berlin,
the journalist
and, uh, now burgeoning social activist,
Bea Hoffmann, who recently drew
the attention of our city's politicians
to various injustices
in Berlin's illegal blood trade
with a highly
controversial publicity stunt.
Welcome. Happy to have you all.
Why don't we start with you, Ms. Hoffmann.
Has your mother forgiven you
for the blood attack already, or
are things still a bit tense at home?
I came here to talk about
the safety issues we're facing in Berlin.
Take the missing persons reports.
There have been over 230
unsolved cases in the past six months.
And my sister's one of those.
Her name is Phoebe Kaya,
and if anyone has seen her,
please come forward.
A lot of these cases
are people who, unlike us,
do not have stable housing or an income,
they struggle to survive on the streets.
-Many desperately poor.
-[Hermes] Yeah.
I'd like to take
a quick second to interrupt, if I may.
And speak to our viewers.
[Hermes] We have published photos
of the missing persons
known to us on our website,
in an effort to aid
law enforcement in their search.
If you or anyone you know
has information on the victims,
please contact
the Berlin Police Missing Persons Unit.
You can also find the contact details
on our website.
Go on.
[Bea] W what we're talking
about here is people
who live on the margins of our society.
Nobody seems to care.
Not the politicians,
not the press, and not the police.
[Hermes] Yeah. Ms. Hoffman, thank you
very much for your thoughtful
and engaging introduction
to today's topic.
You've said on many occasions
that the safety of Berlin's citizens
is at the very top
of your political agenda.
What would you say
to Ms. Hoffmann in response?
Do you agree, or are you just
focused on taking action
against the so-called elites, Mr. Lawal?
-Speechless?
-What?
-No--
-[Hilda] Politicians,
the press and police
take the disappearance
of Berlin's citizens very seriously.
We are setting up
a special commission--
Oh, really? As of this morning?
I don't think
this is a new problem, is it?
Nothing simpler than pointing
the finger at someone else.
You know as well as I do that this isn't
the only problem Berlin is dealing with.
But fundamentally, I agree
with Ms. Hoffmann that social justice
-is the only way crime can be fought, so--
-[Oliver] Bullshit.
-Pardon?
-Bullshit.
Mr. Lawal, you already had
your opportunity to speak.
Look, the problem is
you've allowed criminality to thrive,
the city is rife with it
thanks to your government, Ms. Klein.
[Oliver] It's spreading like a cancer.
I'll admit, for the record,
I'm hardly a fan of the
the erratic politics you practice,
Mr. Lawal,
but I agree with you on one point.
[Fitz-James] The police force
has neither personnel nor resources
to address Berlin's security concerns,
not even close.
-Absolutely.
-Which is why Security Force Berlin
tried to approach you with a solution,
Ms. Klein, but you ignored us.
Our idea was to comprehensively open
the security sector to privatization,
making it more professional
in the process.
This would've given every citizen
the security they're desperate for.
-Assuming they have money.
-[Fitz-James] Mm-hmm.
Class-based safety? That sounds
a lot like the end of democracy.
I'm with you.
Of course. That's right.
But unfortunately
it's better than no safety at all.
[Hilda] That's the opposite
of what you said in your last campaign.
Aren't you against elites?
-Sorry, Mr. Lawal
-Yeah.
but it seems obvious that
your politics are inconsistent.
I mean, the whole obsession with "elites."
It's absurd.
Considering you married into
one of the richest families in Berlin.
[Oliver] When I say, "Crush the elites,"
I mean people like you and your friends.
You sit in your focus groups
and your endless government briefings
and you make sweeping decisions about
people's actual lives based on statistics.
But here's the thing, Ms. Klein,
I know the streets.
I know our city,
I know our people and their needs.
I know what's going on out there.
Unlike you.
And I have to watch as Berlin,
my Berlin, goes down the drain.
[Hermes] Mm-hmm.
Ms. Hoffman, let's go to you.
Don't you think that Mr. Lawal here
is making a somewhat valid point?
Sorry, why exactly are we interested
in Ms. Hoffman's view at all?
Because she threw
a bag of blood at her mother?
That's all it takes these days?
[Hermes] I'm interested to hear
what Ms. Hoffmann has to say.
-Go ahead.
-How about we focus
on the missing, for a change?
There's plenty of evidence
to suggest that the disappearances
are connected to the illegal blood trade,
but no one here is willing to speak up.
-Nothing's being done.
-[Hilda] Not entirely true.
A new bill is currently
on the table for police reform, for the--
Another reform.
More useless reforms.
-[Hilda] That's not--
-See that?
They hide behind
the democratic process,
instead of actually
doing something useful.
-Mr. Lawal, that's big news.
-[Oliver] I'm not--
-I'm not finished yet.
-[Hermes] There is already--
Look, I promise you here and now
that if I'm elected to govern, there will
be no more excess bureaucracy.
No more focus groups
or special commissions. None.
There will be an anti-crime task force
that systematically infiltrates
and eradicates
the warring clans in this city.
Confiscates their property,
and then deports their family members,
so that any presence they have here
may be wiped out of existence.
To address your concern,
Ms Ms. Hoffman.
We we will
we will see that the blood trade is
legalized.
That's right.
We'll legalize the blood trade,
not only to assure a basic income
for everyone in the city,
but to cut off the pernicious
influence of the Batvia Clan.
Yes, I am talking about the Batvia Clan,
which is sinking its claws into our city.
I say it's time to break the stranglehold.
If we can accomplish that,
I highly doubt there will be
any disappearances anymore, Ms. Hoffman.
We must start removing the vermin
[panting]
[Fitz-James] I'd be interested
in knowing what happens
to all these illegal blood reserves.
Where are they going?
I don't think they end up in hospitals.
As far as I know,
there's still a major blood shortage.
Obviously you're welcome to ask
our new expert over here, Ms. Hoffmann.
Maybe she can share with us.
We'll get to that
question right after this.
I've just been made aware
of a message from one of our producers.
And it's very good news for you,
Ms. Hoffmann.
Because apparently your sister
has been watching our broadcast
and is on the phone.
We're gonna link her
into the studio now.
-[Hermes] Ms. Kaya?
-[Phoebe] Hi, Bea.
Sorry I haven't been very good about,
you know, keeping in touch,
but I just found out
you've been looking for me.
Um I I guess I just needed
a few days to myself before the surgery.
I had no idea you'd launch
a whole media campaign right away.
Um I just thought we'd see
each other at the hospital, you know?
Uh We we talked about this.
[Hermes] Yes, Ms. Kaya.
Thank you very much
for contacting your sister.
And thanks for reaching out
to us here in the studio.
It certainly means a lot to Bea.
Ladies and gentlemen,
it's these sort of moments that remind me
what a difference we can make
with our program.
I feel pride knowing that our network
can facilitate these connections.
And it's not the first time, either.
Last week, you did
something incredible on our show.
ZENO GENNARDI CALLING
We were able to
[line rings]
your tremendous show of solidarity
has made it possible
for seven-year-old Hannes to get
the vital heart surgery he needs.
This week, Hannes
will undergo his first operation
[Hermes]
This is great, Ms. Hoffman.
I'm so glad everything
got cleared up with your sister.
I'd imagine this brings a
a huge sense of relief for you, right?
No?
Mmm. Okay. Right.
Well, listen, I won't ask
for any further information
about the medical treatment
that Phoebe was--
This is not just about my sister,
there's hundreds of people missing.
Maybe they'll call too.
Sorry, but the sister
who mysteriously disappears.
And chooses
the perfect moment to call you. [chuckles]
Well, here's what that looks like to me.
You throw a bag of blood
at the secretary of construction,
who happens to be your mom,
and now you're selling us your sister
as a kidnapping victim.
What's going on?
Do you not get enough attention at home?
To me, what we've seen here today
begs one simple question.
Is the Secretary of Construction
failing politically and as a mother?
[sighs]
You were asking
what happens to all that blood.
It's not being sold abroad,
and it's still right here in Berlin.
There's lots of it.
Trust me, I have seen it myself.
Underneath the dome, there's hundreds
of liters being stored in a huge facility.
[Hermes]
Are you trying to make us believe--
[Oliver] There's an area under the dome
where tons of illicit blood
is being stored
and somehow security personnel
-are unaware?
-I'd really like to know
what kind of treatment Ms. Hoffman
and her sister are referring to.
[Hilda]
What are we talking about here? Come on.
I would appreciate it
if we could stay focused
on the substantive issues
in this discussion.
For instance,
the safety of Berlin's citizens.
Because if I understand you correctly,
Mr. Lawal,
you want to abolish democracy
and turn Berlin into a police state.
[Oliver] And I'm turning
this discussion into a sideshow?
Ms. Hoffman, let's get back to you.
Tell me about the evidence for this
this blood reservoir? Yeah?
I mean, it would've
it wouldn't have been all that difficult
to take a photo of this huge facility
and then show it here on live television
for thousands of people to see.
Listen to me. It's true.
Look for yourself or send the police.
[Oliver] Well, unfortunately
they always seem
to have better things to do,
so that's a shame.
[scoffs]
[Hermes] Yeah. Ms. Hoffman.
I can see that you're really
moved by the situation--
What do you want me to say?
It's the truth.
[Hermes] Yeah, so
It's a fact.
-[Hermes] Um
-[Oliver] Is she?
[Hermes] We're going to take
a short commercial break
before we continue
with what's turned out to be
quite a revelatory
and emotional discussion with our panel.
Be right back.
[TV show theme music plays]
[pensive music plays]
She'll hate me for this.
Are you satisfied?
Did I make her look ridiculous enough?
The driver's waiting at the door.
Phoebe.
Take this with you.
The security code is on it.
Come in whenever you like.
[line ringing]
-[telephone rings]
-[train rattling]
[sighs] Rosa, where'd my phone go?
Rosa, honey,
you were playing with it before.
Shit.
Kevin, where's my cell phone?
-I have no idea.
-[ringing continues]
It's in there.
Get it out.
[ringing continues]
Just You'll have to
Do it yourself, man.
Oh, shit.
[grunting] Fucking disgusting.
[groans] Fuck.
G
ACTIVE CALL
-Boss?
-Finally.
Sorry.
[G] What do you think?
[Pit] Yeah, I saw it too.
That guy is a problem.
He's destroying our business.
We have to do something about it.
-Yeah. Today.
-Today?
I got my own shit to deal with.
One of my guys is a rat.
[sighs]
Not my problem.
[G] Make sure Lawal
never forgets what he did.
Otherwise, the problem's
going to get bigger.
-Nobody attacks us and gets away with it.
-Don't go down there.
-What?
-Sorry, I'm with my daughter.
Take care of it.
[sighs]
[ominous music plays]
[announcer] Dr. Honeck to the fourth
floor, Dr. Honeck to the fourth floor.
Hey.
I didn't know
you were looking for me.
I texted. I left messages.
Called a million times.
How come you didn't respond?
Um, I was thinking about stuff.
My phone was off.
For two days?
Then you call during that show
and make me look ridiculous?
-I shouldn't have.
-Did they pay you?
-Is that why?
-No.
Yassin was filming
when they captured you, I saw it.
[Laura]
I'm sorry. There was no parking.
-Hello, Phoebe.
-[Bea] Why don't you tell the truth?
I don't want you to die.
Can we go through with this?
[breathing heavily]
-Can we go?
-Is that what you told her?
You told her I was gonna die?
If you keep getting worse,
you'll have to rely
on a transplant to stay alive, Bea.
[scoffs]
She would never
have gotten clean otherwise.
Fuck you.
-I'd do anything for her.
-[shaky breathing]
-I saw what kind of condition you were in.
-I can't
I can't do this.
What?
I don't want your kidney.
-You heard her, she wants to do it.
-I can't do it. Not like this.
Bea, don't be so goddamn selfish, okay?
Do you know what I had to do to make it
possible for this surgery to happen?
Do you know how many people
would be grateful to be in your position?
Bea.
Bea!
-[Phoebe] What do we do?
-How should I know.
[sighs]
So where have you been, Phoebe?
Were you doing drugs?
-Are you crazy?
-[scoff]
You really don't give
a damn about this, do you?
If it weren't for you,
she wouldn't be in this situation.
It's your fault if she dies.
I was 14.
[pensive music plays]
[gentle music plays]
[announcer] Take a deep breath in and fill
your lungs with the fresh wind of change.
Make a home in harmony with nature.
The Climate Dome.
Shape your future.
[elevator dings]
[sighs]
Where is she?
[tense music plays]
I'd like to talk about Johan.
Yeah?
He's letting Mr. Lawal
incite hatred for the organization.
He's pressuring me
to supply more blood.
You're right.
We can't continue this way.
[breathing shallowly]
[shallow breathing continues]
[grunting]
You might wanna hear
Johan's recent suggestion.
[breathing shallowly]
What kind of suggestion?
Tell me, go ahead.
Well, you do realize
we'll have to find another way
to secure the blood supply
for the future of the business.
[scoffs]
And what way are you suggesting?
One where we're not vulnerable.
We wanna legalize the blood trade.
Oliver Lawal will ensure it gets done.
-[rattles]
-[breathing shallowly]
Do we want that?
And Johan attacking my organization?
Is that also part of the plan?
No, of course not.
That was simply a mistake.
Zeno.
-I want us to do this together.
-[scoffs]
Johan and I will come by later.
Then we can discuss everything.
If you've made up your mind.
[clicks tongue]
[grunting softly]
He's learning.
I'll take him with me.
One more minute.
Come here.
[tense music plays]
[doorbell rings]
Come in.
I
I wanna be bitten.
[Johan] Excuse me?
Come on, why not?
You only take VIPs, or what?
The dome has no fucking room left?
Well, just do it.
Come on.
It'll be better than the stuff
from the bottle.
Here. Come on.
Life is far too valuable, Phoebe.
[sobs]
There's nothing valuable about it.
[sobbing continues]
[Phoebe] I can't do this.
Fucking feelings. I can't do this.
I don't wanna feel anymore.
[sniffles]
She hates me.
I feel completely empty.
[somber music plays]
It's your fault, Johan.
You and your fucked-up plan.
[sobs]
-Phoebe, stop.
-[Phoebe whimpers]
-[groaning]
-Stop it.
Stop it. Stop it.
-Phoebe, stop.
-[groaning, sobbing]
Stop it.
[sobbing]
[Phoebe sniffles]
[exhales]
[sniffles]
[Pit] Ah Look who finally showed up.
[car door closes]
Hey, this one's from the retirement home.
[Pit]
You have to do another delivery.
-Sorry, I have somewhere--
-No, you don't.
-You're going to the Dome.
-[Kevin] Come on.
We got a delivery for the Dome.
Why you giving me that look, huh?
It's for a friend.
[sighs]
[sniffles]
So you been okay?
Yeah. How about you?
Yeah, a bit stressed out.
I got my daughter this week.
-[man] Hey, Yassin.
-Hey.
Drop it at Apartment A28.
Check in with the concierge.
And if our client isn't there,
put the cake in the refrigerator. Got it?
-Mm-hmm.
-[Pit] Take this too.
TUCHOLSKY PASTRY SHOP
They'll let me walk in with a gun?
Of course not. Go through Security
Entrance A to the security person
that's got brown hair and a beard.
He knows what's up.
-Okay.
-Give me your cell.
-[Kevin] You understand?
-[Yassin] Yes.
[Kevin] Brown hair and a beard.
You scared or something? Pussy ass bitch.
[chuckling]
-Thanks.
-Yeah.
[car door opens]
[tense music plays]
[phone buzzes]
[clears throat]
-Hi.
-[Yassin] Hey, hi.
You still have the numbers
from the from the blood blank?
-The ones you showed me?
-Why?
I'm on the way to the Dome.
I have a delivery for Apartment A28.
What if the numbers
from the blood bank are apartment numbers?
I'm heading there now. Are you coming?
-Bea?
-Okay, wait there. I'm on my way.
I'll be there in like 20 minutes
or something like that.
[bell dings]
[sighs anxiously]
[Laura] We shouldn't have separated them.
Phoebe knew exactly
what she was getting herself into.
Carl, she was 14.
She needed someone just as much then.
But me and Phoebe
wouldn't have worked out.
-It was selfish.
-Mm-mm.
Yeah, it was.
What if someone had done that with us?
Hey, you can't compare our situations.
-Yes, I can.
-No.
[sighs]
Look, I'm out of money.
I can't pay for this, Carl.
We only have until tonight, and then
The operation has to happen.
You have to find her.
Her condition's gonna get a lot worse.
Can't you track her phone, or?
You know I can't do that.
[sighs heavily]
[Laura] She should have never gone
on that talk show.
What she said on TV.
Was there any truth to that?
Truth? What do you mean?
The thing about
about the blood bank under the dome.
Do you know something?
It's totally delusional.
Okay, I'll see what I can do
and be in touch, all right?
-Carl?
-[Carl] Yes?
[sighs]
[exhales]
[sniffles]
I'll wait here.
Okay.
Call me with any news.
[door opens, closes]
[announcer] Welcome to the Dome project.
Before entering,
please visit our security check-ins.
[indistinct chatter]
-[Bea] Hey, Yassin.
-Hey.
Mm.
You okay?
Yeah.
-Is there blood in there?
-No, it's a cake and a gun.
A gun?
They told me there's a security guard
with brown hair and a beard.
-He'll let us through.
-[announcer] Welcome to the Dome project.
Before entering,
please visit our security check-ins.
-Hello.
-[guard] Delivery code.
DAILY EATZ
And that one?
He has brown hair too.
Please set your bag here.
[Bea] He has a beard.
[guard] Hello?
[sighs]
[zipper opening]
[tense music plays]
[indistinct chatter]
[zipper closing]
Turn left at the front
and go downstairs to the concierge.
-Thank you.
-[guard] Next.
Welcome to the Dome project.
Before entering,
please visit our security check-ins.
How did you know?
I didn't.
-[chuckles]
-It was a fifty-fifty chance.
TO FRIENDSHIP AND THE MUSES
[low ominous music plays]
[gate clanks]
Oh, you've been waiting.
Scared?
How did he react?
Lawal's challenging the business today
was completely unnecessary.
He shouldn't have
found out about it on a talk show.
-That, um
-[door opens]
wasn't the plan.
That's what makes me worried.
You don't have it under control.
[elevator dings]
[announcer] Welcome to the Climate Dome.
Shape your future.
Set the delivery on the table,
right in here.
-Has anyone even moved in?
-Just hurry up.
It belongs in the fridge.
It's a fresh cake.
Do it then.
You know I really thought
it'd be bigger in here.
[concierge] Yep.
[intriguing music plays]
[footsteps]
[bottles clinking]
-Where's the girl?
-The bathroom.
What?
-She can't use the bathroom.
-[Bea] Something's in here!
Tell her to get out here.
[scoffs] What if somebody found out?
Bea?
[Bea] In here.
-How did you find that?
-[concierge] You can't do this.
-I'm calling security.
-[Bea] Do you hear that?
[breathing heavily]
Hey, it's not your business
what's in there.
[concierge] What is it?
[low ominous music plays]
Farid?
Hey, Farid.
What did they do?
What happened, man? Shit.

[Hermes] Hello everyone,
and welcome, glad you're tuning in.
Today we have some truly
distinguished guests with us
to discuss a complicated topic
that concerns every one of us.
"How dangerous is Berlin?"
And now please join me
in welcoming to the studio
Prime Minister Hilda Klein from the BDP.
Glad you're here today.
-Hello.
-[Hermes] Also joining us
is Oliver Lawal from Aufbruch Berlin.
Who's widely understood to be
Parliament's second strongest candidate
and polls are showing he's the biggest
challenger to Hilda Klein.
-Good to see you, Oliver.
-Hello.
And welcome to our distinguished guest,
the renowned security expert
Benjamin Fitz-James,
he is the CEO and a founding member
of one of the largest
private security companies in the region.
Security Force Berlin.
Welcome, Mr. Fitz-James.
And last but not least, representing
the young voices of Berlin,
the journalist
and, uh, now burgeoning social activist,
Bea Hoffmann, who recently drew
the attention of our city's politicians
to various injustices
in Berlin's illegal blood trade
with a highly
controversial publicity stunt.
Welcome. Happy to have you all.
Why don't we start with you, Ms. Hoffmann.
Has your mother forgiven you
for the blood attack already, or
are things still a bit tense at home?
I came here to talk about
the safety issues we're facing in Berlin.
Take the missing persons reports.
There have been over 230
unsolved cases in the past six months.
And my sister's one of those.
Her name is Phoebe Kaya,
and if anyone has seen her,
please come forward.
A lot of these cases
are people who, unlike us,
do not have stable housing or an income,
they struggle to survive on the streets.
-Many desperately poor.
-[Hermes] Yeah.
I'd like to take
a quick second to interrupt, if I may.
And speak to our viewers.
[Hermes] We have published photos
of the missing persons
known to us on our website,
in an effort to aid
law enforcement in their search.
If you or anyone you know
has information on the victims,
please contact
the Berlin Police Missing Persons Unit.
You can also find the contact details
on our website.
Go on.
[Bea] W what we're talking
about here is people
who live on the margins of our society.
Nobody seems to care.
Not the politicians,
not the press, and not the police.
[Hermes] Yeah. Ms. Hoffman, thank you
very much for your thoughtful
and engaging introduction
to today's topic.
You've said on many occasions
that the safety of Berlin's citizens
is at the very top
of your political agenda.
What would you say
to Ms. Hoffmann in response?
Do you agree, or are you just
focused on taking action
against the so-called elites, Mr. Lawal?
-Speechless?
-What?
-No--
-[Hilda] Politicians,
the press and police
take the disappearance
of Berlin's citizens very seriously.
We are setting up
a special commission--
Oh, really? As of this morning?
I don't think
this is a new problem, is it?
Nothing simpler than pointing
the finger at someone else.
You know as well as I do that this isn't
the only problem Berlin is dealing with.
But fundamentally, I agree
with Ms. Hoffmann that social justice
-is the only way crime can be fought, so--
-[Oliver] Bullshit.
-Pardon?
-Bullshit.
Mr. Lawal, you already had
your opportunity to speak.
Look, the problem is
you've allowed criminality to thrive,
the city is rife with it
thanks to your government, Ms. Klein.
[Oliver] It's spreading like a cancer.
I'll admit, for the record,
I'm hardly a fan of the
the erratic politics you practice,
Mr. Lawal,
but I agree with you on one point.
[Fitz-James] The police force
has neither personnel nor resources
to address Berlin's security concerns,
not even close.
-Absolutely.
-Which is why Security Force Berlin
tried to approach you with a solution,
Ms. Klein, but you ignored us.
Our idea was to comprehensively open
the security sector to privatization,
making it more professional
in the process.
This would've given every citizen
the security they're desperate for.
-Assuming they have money.
-[Fitz-James] Mm-hmm.
Class-based safety? That sounds
a lot like the end of democracy.
I'm with you.
Of course. That's right.
But unfortunately
it's better than no safety at all.
[Hilda] That's the opposite
of what you said in your last campaign.
Aren't you against elites?
-Sorry, Mr. Lawal
-Yeah.
but it seems obvious that
your politics are inconsistent.
I mean, the whole obsession with "elites."
It's absurd.
Considering you married into
one of the richest families in Berlin.
[Oliver] When I say, "Crush the elites,"
I mean people like you and your friends.
You sit in your focus groups
and your endless government briefings
and you make sweeping decisions about
people's actual lives based on statistics.
But here's the thing, Ms. Klein,
I know the streets.
I know our city,
I know our people and their needs.
I know what's going on out there.
Unlike you.
And I have to watch as Berlin,
my Berlin, goes down the drain.
[Hermes] Mm-hmm.
Ms. Hoffman, let's go to you.
Don't you think that Mr. Lawal here
is making a somewhat valid point?
Sorry, why exactly are we interested
in Ms. Hoffman's view at all?
Because she threw
a bag of blood at her mother?
That's all it takes these days?
[Hermes] I'm interested to hear
what Ms. Hoffmann has to say.
-Go ahead.
-How about we focus
on the missing, for a change?
There's plenty of evidence
to suggest that the disappearances
are connected to the illegal blood trade,
but no one here is willing to speak up.
-Nothing's being done.
-[Hilda] Not entirely true.
A new bill is currently
on the table for police reform, for the--
Another reform.
More useless reforms.
-[Hilda] That's not--
-See that?
They hide behind
the democratic process,
instead of actually
doing something useful.
-Mr. Lawal, that's big news.
-[Oliver] I'm not--
-I'm not finished yet.
-[Hermes] There is already--
Look, I promise you here and now
that if I'm elected to govern, there will
be no more excess bureaucracy.
No more focus groups
or special commissions. None.
There will be an anti-crime task force
that systematically infiltrates
and eradicates
the warring clans in this city.
Confiscates their property,
and then deports their family members,
so that any presence they have here
may be wiped out of existence.
To address your concern,
Ms Ms. Hoffman.
We we will
we will see that the blood trade is
legalized.
That's right.
We'll legalize the blood trade,
not only to assure a basic income
for everyone in the city,
but to cut off the pernicious
influence of the Batvia Clan.
Yes, I am talking about the Batvia Clan,
which is sinking its claws into our city.
I say it's time to break the stranglehold.
If we can accomplish that,
I highly doubt there will be
any disappearances anymore, Ms. Hoffman.
We must start removing the vermin
[panting]
[Fitz-James] I'd be interested
in knowing what happens
to all these illegal blood reserves.
Where are they going?
I don't think they end up in hospitals.
As far as I know,
there's still a major blood shortage.
Obviously you're welcome to ask
our new expert over here, Ms. Hoffmann.
Maybe she can share with us.
We'll get to that
question right after this.
I've just been made aware
of a message from one of our producers.
And it's very good news for you,
Ms. Hoffmann.
Because apparently your sister
has been watching our broadcast
and is on the phone.
We're gonna link her
into the studio now.
-[Hermes] Ms. Kaya?
-[Phoebe] Hi, Bea.

but I just found out

who happens to be your mom,
and now you're selling us your sister
as a kidnapping victim.

begs one simple question.
Is the Secretary of Construction
failing politically and as a mother?
[sighs]
You were asking
what happens to all that blood.
It's not being sold abroad,
and it's still right here in Berlin.
There's lots of it.
Trust me, I have seen it myself.

of liters being stored in a huge facility.

where tons of illicit blood
is being stored
and somehow security personnel
-are unaware?

what kind of treatment Ms. Hoffman
and her sister are referring to.
[Hilda]
What are we talking about here? Come on.
I would appreciate it
if we could stay focused
on the substantive issues
in this discussion.
For instance,
the safety of Berlin's citizens.
Because if I understand you correctly,
Mr. Lawal,
you want to abolish democracy
and turn Berlin into a police state.
[Oliver] And I'm turning
this discussion into a sideshow?
Ms. Hoffman, let's get back to you.

Oh, you've been waiting.
Scared?
How did he react?
Lawal's challenging the business today
was completely unnecessary.
He shouldn't have
found out about it on a talk show.
-That, um

wasn't the plan.
That's what makes me worried.
You don't have it under control.

after the parliamentary election.
That's if Lawal wins.
[Johan] We believe he will.
You still need me
in the meantime, don't you?
We'll need you after, as well.

[news anchor] What we know so far
is the Dome's membrane-like roof
has been damaged.
However, we're still waiting for details
about the full extent of the disaster.
It also remains unclear
whether this was an unfortunate accident
or a targeted terrorist attack.
So far none of the possible groups
have claimed responsibility.
