The Animals of Farthing Wood (1993) s01e04 Episode Script

False Haven

We had escaped from the destruction of our homes in Farthingwood, but now our journey
to White Deer Park Nature Reserve was docked by danger.
The most terrifying fire swept across the army land.
Fire!
Yoke!
Ah!
For the Newts, there was no escape.
But toad our guide was rescued by the great courage of Fox.
We feared that Mou II had perished, but as the humans put out the flames to our great joy,
he reappeared.
With our bonds forged strong by danger, we set out on the next stage of our journey,
glad simply to be alive.
It's raining, it's pouring the young Annie's story.
He bumped his head on the back of the bed and he couldn't get up in the morning.
Ha ha!
Lovely weather!
It serves the scales slithering through this.
Nice!
A little and a folly behind.
I'll soon speed them up.
Ha ha ha!
Ha!
It's alright, you can't mean it.
She did, she did, she did.
What?
Every time.
Yeah!
Why did you do that?
Don't you?
I'm not well.
And anyway, I didn't do it on purpose.
Yes you did!
No, I didn't.
Henshaw bumped into me.
Sorry, the shrews bumped into me.
What's going on, baby?
I spirit, matey, I spirit!
Sounds more like bad temper to me.
I suppose I'd better investigate.
Do panic!
Take that!
Do something!
Don't just stand there!
She insulted me!
Oh, not well.
How dec.
How decastad!
Ha ha!
How thick!
Oh, how thick!
Oh, I'm so sorry, box. So, it's you.
I had a start at it. No, it was weasel.
Don't start arguing all over again. Look, I know it's hard going.
Can't you try to remember that moment when we all stood together against the humans?
One for all and all for one. Yes, box. Yes, box.
It's all very well, when I'm a martyr tomorrow, a martyr, you know.
And that bump didn't help.
Shh. I'm sure we'll find shelter soon.
Come on, I'll take some of you on my back.
Thank you, box.
Speaking of birds, where's Owl?
If he's got any sense at all, she'll be tucked up nice and snug underground.
Owl.
Well, under a bush then. Whatever.
Look, I think I can see the boundary fence. We can shelter under the bushes.
There, that's better know. What have you done?
I just added a stray feather to your tail deer to hide the burnt bits.
Oh, do lo, lo, lo, what kind of feather?
Well, I think it's one of Owls actually. That, doubly female.
Beggars can't be choosers, fessant.
You should be grateful.
Grateful. What? To have her feathers in my beautiful tail?
Stupid bird. Take it out of once.
There's if any other creature had feathers anywhere that had some as mine.
I was only doing my best.
Peace. Perfect, peace.
Stop squabbling. Can't you see Fox is tired?
Look at all the others. Welcome, Badger.
Thank you, Kestrel. Not much like home, is it?
Any buttole in a storm?
You never said a true word, Owl.
Personally, I'm just glad to get out of the wet.
Rain's coming in. You don't have to tell me, Badger.
It's raining, isn't it? It's pouring the old manish, Noreen.
He bumped his head on the back of the bed, and he couldn't get up in the morning.
Owl is a barn, sound ear my ears.
A dry barn sounds like heaven.
Well, not far. Two near humans.
No. I knew there was a catch.
Any buttole in a storm?
You said that before, Owl.
She's still right. Come on, Toad.
Lead the way.
Oh, there, matey. There it is.
Yes, but isn't the one we're looking for?
It's a barn, matey. What more is your one?
Any sign of the humans?
Don't worry. They don't like rain.
I'm getting too old for all of this.
I like this. This is cozy.
Very nice.
Well done, Toad. What do you say, Fox?
It's that open door, it's got me worried.
Just to clear up, eh, Fox?
Kiss draws in a plumb tree, keeping watch.
Thesaint will relieve her later,
and I'll take my turn when it's dark.
There now. Nothing can go wrong, can it?
If you say so.
Alright, get some rest, everybody.
Oh, dear. Wakey, wakey, dear. Time for watching.
Though, must get the beauty sleep, not getting any younger.
Well, I'm awake. So I suppose there's no need to wake anyone else.
I'm not awake.
Well, I'm awake. So I suppose there's no need to wake anyone else.
Is there?
Just going to collect the eggs, love.
Oh, no. Come here. Now.
Hmm.
What? Foxes? Oh, not again. Where were you, eh?
Call yourself a watchdog. You're not worth feeding.
Oh.
You slay's mongrel. What do you say, you, eh?
You bit her.
Oh, dear. That doesn't sound too good,
but it go and wait the others.
You're a waste of time as a farm dog.
I wish I could sell you, but you're a useless,
day-night waste of space.
What of you?
What was that? A gum?
Dampanic?
Ah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. I'm not nervous.
Run for it.
Help! We're trapped! We're trapped!
Dampanic?
Right, Bruno, know your chance to save your skin.
Guard that door and guard it well,
because if that box escapes, you'll be as dead as this bird.
My wife!
You wait till I reload in my gunbox. I'll get my own back on you. You see it, but don't.
Check the windows. They're shot.
I'm afraid your wife's going to be the farmer's dinner, Fesant.
Where? Where is she?
Oh, isn't. No wonder you were so scared all the time.
Just because you're paranoid, you doesn't mean it ought out to get you.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. It must be some way out.
Ow, this is going to take some thinking about.
Mom, she's falling asleep.
Shh.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
Guard!
That box is done for this time.
He'll keep. Your dinner won't.
Oh, women.
Ha, ha, ha, ha. This is silly.
Shh. I've got it. We can dig our way out.
Dig. Dig.
Who's the best tunnler?
Why? Mole, of course.
Oh, gosh.
Thank you.
Oh, no. You're still anybody.
No, you're still at all.
Well, I've got a good set of teeth.
So have I.
And me?
We could help.
Come on, everybody. Dig chewing.
Hello.
Strange, huh?
Oh.
I'm blooming useless dog.
I hope I could get my clean thing to you.
What's it?
My baits Swiss, and my bark.
Try that for size.
Oh, thanks for you.
Better. I'm here, old fella.
Could you follow me along the tunnel?
Waiting it as you go.
Do you think some of you others could come down here to shift earth?
Coming, badgann.
I'm coming.
Dolly, good. Over one, one for all, eh?
Hello.
Is that you, Petra?
Yes.
I think we're nearly there.
Err.
Say anything, and you'll be sorry.
How did going mo live?
We're out.
Well done, mo.
We're out. Come on.
Oh, it's out. We're out.
I'll get dirty.
Pesent, get down that tunnel at once.
Oh, grouch.
Sting is so many.
Oh, grouch.
Get out of the way.
Watch.
Go.
You stupid animals.
Bruno, out of the way.
This zone teems them.
What's over the hill?
I see no remember.
There's a shore of wood.
Owl, what can you see?
The path goes straight down past farms and houses to a copse.
You could hide there.
Can the smaller animals make it?
Keep going.
The farmer's dog has found your scent.
Ssssssssss!
Rrrrrr!
Rrrrrr!
Stupid beast.
I might as well settle out to a long snooze.
Save here, is anywhere else.
little more to do to do. He's coming. I see him. He can keep going. When running away,
watch your back, Fox. I know what you're getting at now. The weakest are at the back,
aren't they? It's you he's after. Then it's me he'll have to deal with.
What are you going to do, Fox? Badger, take charge. Get them to the cops. See you later.
Good luck, Fox.
Ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff, ruff.
Well, dog.
Well, Fox. I suppose it was me you wanted. I asked a one-two dig. So he wants every Fox dead.
You killed these chickens. Oh no, I didn't.
Loya, I'm not the only Fox around. You're here. Oh, I see. Any Fox will do. That it? Your master must be very stupid.
To kill one Fox because another hurt him. That's the same as kicking you because his wife's burnt his dinner.
He does too. I mean, does that make any sense to you? No, but he's still ever told me why you were lurking
around the chicken coop. Not for the taste of chicken. I don't even like him. Too many feathers.
A chew. You're right by the light. You're joking at a time like this. All right, if it wasn't for
the chicken, what wasn't it for? Didn't you see the others? What, I lose. My friends.
Not Fox's, but rabbits, mice, hedgehogs, toads, birds, all kinds. I'm tired after all that digging.
I'm so sunny, but if I offered you a lift, you wouldn't want it. I never tried.
What? Have you been doing it for months in climbing?
Have you been making me push you, a magnum?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, you're in.
Quite right, Kestrel. No point standing here.
Consider that without the hard climb, there could not be the easy descent.
Come on, everybody. Not much further. You're saying?
We've taken an oath of mutual protection. What's that when it's at home?
Well, we've sworn to look after each other on this journey we're doing to a nature reserve.
Even humans can't hurt you there.
Poorly other one.
True as I'm standing here. You're true to your name, I must say. Very cunning,
but you can't fool me. Oh no, I'm taking you back. I'll get a nice fat reward when my master sees your
dead. Oh no, you won't. Oh yes, I will. You won't. He doesn't want you to kill his fox.
He wants to do it for himself. All you'll do is rob him of the satisfaction.
All right, suit me. I'll take you back alive.
Sorry, can't oblige old son. If you want me, you'll have to kill me first.
Oh, I don't know. First my master blames me for not catching his fox.
Then when I've caught him, he still blames me. That's about it.
You got me tidy, not you clever dick. You should have caught the right fox. That's all there is to it.
Wild animals. They'll be telling me to catch me to friend of the mouse next.
Oh no, that can't be right.
Oh no, I should make a friend of the cat.
I can't be right either.
Now what I'm about to do is go home, boy.
The poor dog's been so molly cuddled by humans. Everything done for him.
He's lost the few bits he ever had. All the same, you are quite heroic.
I'm hungry.
Oh, you would be. So be there now, my ease.
Oh, lots of good things to eat there too.
Three.
I poor old bones.
Oh, sorry, Mole. Just couldn't stand a minute longer.
Lovely soft earth, better.
Now don't get too carried away, Mole. You know what happened last time?
My poor wife.
Yes, we must be nice to him, dear. Do try.
It's only now she's gone. I realise how much he did for me.
Who's going to dig for my grump now?
Oh, I draw the line at that.
Oh, that's a nice old here.
Hmm, they look nice.
Fine, just keep it.
That's not fair.
All right, what did it give me?
Sure.
All for one and one for all. I prefer the all for one bit myself.
And now life's too short. Wait me when it's dark. I'll eat them.
I do wish Eder would flick out her tongue.
No sign of the others.
Eder, let's go and search and zap her, suppose.
Eder, we've left her behind. Oh, no.
Eder, we've left her behind.
Eder, we've left her behind.
Eder, we've left her behind.
Eder, we've left her behind.
Eder, we've left her behind.
