Blue Skies (2026) s01e05 Episode Script

Hi. Good morning.
Silly!
Hey, Ryan. What's up?
Jodi, I've got a situation.
It's a mother wolf that was
shot, but still alive.
Look, you found her when you
did.
I was headed to an early morning
climb near Lake Laverne,
But I spotted the wolf
on the way.
Was this before or after you got
that slick new haircut?
Trying to impress your
girlfriend?
How's the wolf?
Fish And Game just rushed her
to the vet.
Is she gonna make it?
They're not sure.
Poachers?
Then why shoot her and leave her
here?
Maybe something scared them off?
Or maybe it ran away.
From what I saw,
it wasn't a clean shot.
Hit the tracking collar.
Is it still working?
I don't think so.
Maybe it got shot somewhere else
and found its way here.
Blood trail.
Crime scene must be that way.
Track!
Good spotting. I mean,
we would have got there.
The trail ends here.
Oh, look at this.
Used casing.
That's a 350 Legend.
You don't see these much.
Over here.
Tire tracks. Fresh. Tire size is
probably about
18in. Probably a truck or SUV.
Something big.
They're also unbalanced.
You see how one set is digging
in a bit deeper than the other?
Since when do you know so much
about tires?
My dad was a mechanic.
Spent my whole childhood in
his garage.
This info could have come up whe
we had that flat two months ago.
You made me change it.
In the rain.
You said to let you handle it.
It's called being a gentleman.
Ryan, I'm gonna take your
statement.
Let's call this in to HQ.
Tyson and King here.
How's the wolf doing?
She's on her way to surgery.
Tyson, did you look up the
serial number on her collar?
Doing it now. I mean,
I love this Wolf Trail app.
Real game changer for wolf
population tracking.
Gives us her numbers,
migration patterns, and
a whole slew of
other information.
Why do I get the
feeling your hobby is wolves?
Apps. Actually.
The shell casing was a medium
range rifle.
350 Legend from what I can tell.
I sent it over already.
This whole thing was sloppy.
Wasn't a clean shot. If this was
hunters or poachers,
then we'd expect better.
Maybe they were in a hurry?
Or inexperienced.
You see that with young hunters?
You mentioned tire tracks. Where
are they?
Near the crime scene. Forensics
is sending in photos.
The wolf's name is Layla
Three years old. Layla just had
a litter of newborn pups.
They're a week old and they
haven't been tagged.
Without their mother. These pups
can't defend themselves.
Mountain lions,
bears.
They need water and food,
protection.
Meeks. Esposito. You case the
area.
Larsen, you and Blue need to get
to those pups.
All right, let's get to work.
Copy.
Come on, buddy.
I'm going with you. You're going
after the wolf pups, right?
That's the plan.
Yeah, I've got the app. We can
follow Layla's patterns.
Maybe that'll lead us to the
pups.
Okay. You want to follow on your
quad?
I can pick it up later.
Fine. I'll let King know you're
coming for a ride along.
Of course.
Hey. You comfy?
Okay, buddy.
When's the final K-9 test?
Today. And then Blue will
officially be part of the team.
Are you ready for it?
He is. Not sure I am.
So tell me about the app.
Can you see everywhere that
Layla's been?
No, it's not continuous.
It uploads at regular intervals.
So you can tell generally where
she's been.
Looks like the last few days.
Layla's been traveling in about
a three kilometer area,
so the pups,
they've got to be in that zone.
Bernard for Larson.
Go for Larsen.
Ballistics just got back to us.
It's like you thought. Medium
range rifle.
Great.
Any other information?
Not until they get that bullet
and try to match it.
They're working on it, but
it's going to take a few hours.
Copy that. Could you send it to
Meeks and Nora please?
Got it.
Thank you.
So it was a medium range rifle.
There's only a million of those.
Well, 350 Legend's not common.
So that could be the way in.
It's something.
Maybe they saw something.
Excuse me. We're detectives with
M.P.S.
Hi.
Hi. We're investigating an
incident in the park.
What kind of incident?
Gunshots were heard.
Have either of you seen or heard
anything out of the ordinary?
No. Nothing.
No.
Excuse me.
Officer Esposito.
Okay.
Excuse me.
We need to get going. Thank you
so much for your time.
Of course.
What's up?
We have a couple of witnesses at
the edge of the camp who heard
gunshots this morning.
Oh. What's that?
The wildlife listening device.
Fancy, right?
You just happen to have
that? Thought you were heading
on a climb to Lake Laverne this
morning.
I was. I had this on my quad.
We use it in Search And Rescue.
Thought maybe we could hear the
pups crying.
Wow. Boss, you're gonna want to
see this.
Is that?
Ryan Miller
Where is that?
Whispering Pines this morning,
just before they found the wolf.
So he was in the restricted area
again.
Didn't they get his statement
this morning?
Yeah, just before they called
in.
Pull it up.
He said he was headed to Lake
Laverne.
He lied.
Does Ryan have a gun?
Most people do. If they're going
to be traveling in the
backcountry.
Have you ever seen him with a
gun?
Once.
What kind?
Medium range rifle.
So how does that thing work,
exactly?
Sorry?
I said, how does that thing
work?
This device allows me to hear th
from hundreds of yards away.
Wolf pups have a very
distinct sound.
I just need to make a call.
Will you take Blue?
I'll catch up with you.
Yeah, yeah. Hey,
come on, boy.
This is King.
Boss, why are we off
the walkie?
Because Ryan has a walkie and I
didn't want to be overheard.
Ryan Miller was seen leaving
Whispering Pines this morning.
The statement in the report you
filed said he was headed to
Laverne Lake. He's also been
seen carrying a rifle sometimes.
He's helping me find her pups.
He was the one who called it in.
Maybe it was an accident
and he didn't want to admit it.
Point is, everyone's a suspect
until they're not.
I know he's your friend,
but we need to know more.
Copy that.
Hey.
It's either my birthday or
Jodi's.
Of course it's Jodi's birthday.
Tyson, do you copy?
Go for Tyson. I've got King here
with me.
Some people heard
gunshots, and one guy saw
a pickup truck with the
American flag in the area.
Also, there was this bird
watcher.
He said he saw a woman out
pretty early,
come to think of it. Her
description was pretty close to
that woman who was caught killin
wolves on her land a while back.
That's right. What was her name?
It was a huge scandal around
here.
Dolores Robertson, she said the
wolves attacked her dogs,
and she wasn't gonna stand
for that. Look at that.
Dolores' property line. Layla
was tracking through the area.
Dolores could have easily
tracked her to our crime scene
and shot her.
She does have a history
Tyson's gonna get you an
address.
Good work.
Thanks.
Hey. Hey, look at this.
What?
Layla's collar came back
online.
Right here where we are.
I guess it's still working.
Yeah. The most likely place's
for wolf dens are dark and
protected. I think we should
look right there.
Could be a place for them to
hide.
So, Lake Laverne,
huh?
Huh?
That's where you were on your
climb this morning.
Lake Laverne, right?
Right.
Ryan
I think I got something.
Come on. This way.
Lift your foot.
Why?
Just do it.
Pretty common for poachers.
Last I checked,
those were illegal.
Let's see what Dolores has to
say about this.
Stonehaven Memorial Hospital.
How may I help you?
Marlene. It's Bill.
Bill Larsen.
Bill.
How are you?
Well, you know,
doing my best.
We miss her.
Me, too. Listen,
I'm calling, hoping that you can
help me with something. I'm
trying to find someone.
Maybe a nurse or a doctor who
works there with
a name that
starts with a "P".
What's the last name?
Well, that is a bit of my
conundrum.
I don't actually have a last
name.
Okay, um, let me check the
directory.
Yeah. There's no one on the
medical staff with a "P".
Are you sure?
Very. Sorry, Bill.
That's okay. Thanks for your
help.
Of course. Take care. Okay?
You too.
Ooh! How fun.
What am I being accused of now?
Miss Robertson, we're here to
discuss an incident that
occurred this morning.
You mean that wolf
that was shot?
How do you know about that?
All of us who live out here stay
informed about the wolves.
Some of us even have that app.
You can get in trouble for
having that.
Didn't say I did.
Just said some of us do.
The only wolves I mess with are
ones that try and hurt what's mi
But wolves are protected
species.
Don't I know it?
Someone saw you out this morning
with your rifle.
Protection.
What about this?
It's my property. I can do what
I want.
Not when it comes to shooting a
wolf.
Good thing I didn't shoot it
then.
And we can prove that pretty
quickly. Let us run ballistics
on your rifle.
No, thanks.
At least let us take a look at
your ammo.
You want my rifle and bullets?
Get a warrant.
You want to fine me for the
snare? Go for it.
But I warn you,
don't try anything funny.
I got cameras all around this
place.
No? Well, then you can leave.
And don't come back until you
have the proper paperwork.
Take my card in case you change
your mind.
I'll treasure this.
Nothing.
You want to tell me
what's bugging you?
You've been staring holes at the
back of my head.
You lied to me about where you
were this morning.
You were at Whispering Pines.
Ah. The trail cams.
Ryan. You were in a restricted
area again,
and you lied about it.
King's gonna wonder what else
you lied about. Especially since
you were the one who found
Layla.
You can't possibly think I shot.
Because I know you, but King doe
Do you own a hunting rifle?
Yeah. A medium range,
30 caliber locked at the back of
my house. I bet those trail cams
didn't catch me with a rifle
strapped around my back.
We're running out of time. You
and King can question me all you
want after we find these pups.
Whoa whoa, whoa. Pull over here.
Remember what that one park visi
from the campground said about
seeing a pickup truck with an Am
flag in the back window?
Good eyes.
We might have found our truck
based on the description.
We're checking it out now.
Copy that.
Proceed with caution.
Tires match.
There's blood on the tailgate.
Young hunters. What did I tell
you?
M.P.S. We need to speak with you
What are you doing in the park?
Sightseeing.
Why the rifles then?
Um. I'd rather have it on me
than not.
Um, I have a permit.
Where are you coming from?
I was just showing him a cool
waterfall.
Mind if I take a look at your
gun?
Harrington Ironwood. Nice.
You mind if I ask what ammo it
takes?
350. Legend.
It's been fired recently.
Uh, we bagged a deer earlier
outside the park grounds.
Where is it?
I dropped it at my uncle's.
Yeah, see, I might believe that,
but your tires. Those tracks
were found this morning near the
scene of a crime. Very much
inside the park.
Okay, okay. It was an accident.
Which one of you shot the wolf?
What wolf?
There was a wolf shot this
morning with a 350 legend round.
We didn't even see a wolf!
We shot a deer in the park.
We didn't realize we'd entered
it.
You're saying you did not shoot
a wolf?
No way. We don't shoot what we
can't eat.
All right, let's do a ballistics
test on your ammo.
That should clear things up.
I'm gonna head over to
that grove.
Bernard to Larsen.
Go for Larsen.
I've got King here for you.
Jodi, I just spoke with a
contact of mine in Yellowstone.
I remember they had a wolf
problem last year.
His assistant couldn't tell me
how bad it was, but they did say
there was a similar attack.
Let me guess. Wolf was female?
Yes. She was tranquilized near a
den of her new pups.
You think they're after the
females for breeding?
Not just the females,
but the pups, too.
Wolf pups bring in money,
but live pups.
They're worth a fortune.
Then why would they shoot Lalya?
Maybe they didn't mean to.
That's why the shot was so slopp
That means they have no way to
find the new pups without Layla.
These poachers are probab
trying to leave the park if they
haven't already. Okay, we'll tak
care of this on our end.
You and Ryan find those pups.
Copy that.
I'm getting a lot of interferenc
Maybe we get Blue
another whiff of that collar.
All right, buddy.
Search!
Got something?
This must have been their den.
You can see the markings in the
dirt. Layla must have
sensed danger.
She moved them.
Or?
Poachers
already got to them.
Let's keep moving.
Do you copy?
Go for Larsen.
Just heard back from the vet.
Looks like Layla's gonna make
it.
That's great. We just found her
den,
but no pups. Either she moved
them or the poachers already
found them.
Got it.
All right. Yeah.
Thanks for your help.
They weren't lying.
That was their uncle. Sent me a
picture of the deer.
Lovely. I just got off the phone
with forensics.
And?
The ballistic fingerprint on
the 350 Legend doesn't match the
kid's Ironwood. They said the bu
was fired from a.
Westfield Sentinel.
They're not our poachers.
Cut them loose.
Wild goose chase all day.
Let's head back to HQ.
Regroup. I'll let them know.
You guys lost?
Well, hey, we were just cruising
through Crystal Ridge,
and, uh, my phone lost service.
I have no idea how to get out of
here.
What are you doing all the way
out here?
We're moving across the country
and hitting all the
national parks on the way.
Uh, where are you guys headed?
We wanted to see that waterfall
we keep hearing about.
Yeah.
Well, if you follow this service
road, it'll take you to the
south entrance. But then you're
on the other side of the park.
Are you serious?
I'm sorry. We have to go.
Good luck.
Meeks.
Meeks, this is Dolores
Robertson.
Mrs. Robertson.
we won't be
Wanted to let you know that my
cameras caught a camper van with
Montana plates heading towards
your crime scene this morning.
And you're reporting it?
That's remarkably civic minded
of you.
Just because I don't like wolves
doesn't mean I want some
outsider shooting at them.
All right. I've given you the
information. Do what you want
with it.
Okay. Thank you.
Wow.
What's gotten into him?
He must have picked up a scent.
Bernard to Larsen.
Go for Larsen.
Another collar just went
offline.
Where? When?
20, 30 minutes ago.
In your vicinity.
Jodi.
Let me call you back.
Good boy, buddy.
Good boy.
Thanks.
We just found the collar.
Belongs to Titan. Male and
Layla's mate.
But how did the thieves find
Layla?
Let alone know she had pups with
Titan?
They must be using the Wolf
Trail app.
Our family's information
is on there.
Layla's collar stopped
transmitting after she was shot.
They think Layla is dead?
But it came back online, so mayb
they think she's still alive.
Where's Layla's collar now?
I have it.
I just talked to Dolores
Robertson.
Her cameras caught a brown
camper van with Montana plates
heading towards our crime scene
this morning.
Camper van? Do you think it
could be the people we ran into?
Sounds like it.
Benard to Larsen.
Go for Larsen.
We think we know who we're
looking for. Meeks and Nora
bumped into them earlier this
morning.
The brown camper van.
With Montana plates.
We just ran into them.
I think when Layla's
collar came back online,
they were following it.
That's why we crossed paths.
They were tracking Titan on the
app,
and they were tracking us.
These people know what they're
doing. They lost out on the
mother. They're tracking the
father.
I think they're getting close to
the pups.
You two get out there and back
her up.
Sending her coordinates now.
Copy.
Females on the move.
We need to find these pups and
get out of here.
I hear something,
I think the pups are nearby.
Is Layla's collar is still
tracking?
Yeah.
If we're anywhere near the pups,
that means so are they.
What are you thinking?
You go find the pups, Blue and I
will take care of this.
Okay. Hey.
Stay safe.
Blue!
Come here, buddy. All right.
Lead them in another direction.
Go!
No no no no no no no no no no.
There we go.
What's wrong with this wolf?
It's like it's doubling back.
HQ, I got sound in the pups.
We're getting close.
Copy.
I'll update the team.
Slowing down.
A dog?
That doesn't make sense.
Lower your weapons.
Which way?
Get her, Blue.
Get her!
Ah! No! No!
I'm good. Get Blue.
Good job, Blue.
There you are. Found you.
Shh. It's okay. It's okay.
It's okay. I'm here.
Westfield Sentinel.
Just like forensics said.
Thanks.
Hello, Titan.
Got you, buddy.
Thank you.
The pups will be reunited with
their mother and father once
Layla is able to return to the
wild.
Heartwarming. I almost put it
together before you did this tim
Almost.
How do you think it all went
down?
They missed out on their prize
at Yellowstone,
so they thought they'd take
another chance. The Adlers were
tracking Layla. I think
Christopher wanted to
tranquilize her so he could
steal both her and the pups.
But he was clumsy. And she's a
protective mother.
She sensed danger and charged
him.
The tranq wasn't ready,
and he hurried to load it and
missed. Tanya shot her and Layla
was able to run away,
but they left their casings
behind.
Good work, Military.
Not too bad yourself.
I had a little help from a very
mean woman named Dolores.
Sounds like your type.
Blue did really good today.
Shoot. We have a K-9 test.
I've gotta go. Come on, Blue.
Good luck.
Hey, Blue. Hi.
Hey.
Heard you got the bad guys.
Heard you found the pups.
Nice work.
And for my reward,
King calls me in to grill me.
You keep going back to
Whispering Pines with no regard
for what King says.
I know you,
and you would not
jeopardize your career for a
climb.
You don't want to tell me?
Fine. But I know something is
wrong.
I gotta get going.
Come on.
Larsen. Yes.
Sorry, we're just on our way.
All right, buddy. You
ready to be part of the team?
Come on, buddy.
You're not making this easy on
me.
Why do you have this?0
Why do you keep going to
Whispering Pines?
Okay. Keep quiet.
You can kiss your M.P.S.
career goodbye.
In fact, I might even get you
pulled from S.A.R.
Some things are bigger than this
N.P.S. job.
Bigger than S.A.R.
Like what, Miller?
It's up to you.
Okay, buddy. It's the moment of
truth.
Ready?
Come on.
Hey.
Hey. Thanks for coming by.
Yeah.
Have a seat.
Okay, buddy, are you ready to do
this thing?
Let's do it.
Okay, wait.
Wait.
Tunnel. Tunnel. Tunnel.
I'm ready for it.
Nice.
Jump!
Wee. Wee. Wee.
I ran some tests.
From where Claire fell from.
Jump. Jump.
I dropped a rock from where she
slipped and fell.
And it hit the ledge directly
below and bounced right off the
mountain before the fatal fall.
Then I threw another rock a bit
further out,
and it cleared that ledge.
Didn't even touch it. Just a
straight fall right to the
bottom. It didn't hit me until I
did another search and rescue to
an accident similar to Claire's.
If you slip and fall,
you sustain multiple injuries
going down the side of the
mountain,
at least from the ridge where
Claire fell from.
And Claire didn't have any of
those.
Her injuries were completely
clean.
Oh. Go. Boy.
Bill. It doesn't add up.
There's no way she just slipped
and fell.
That means someone else was
there.
But who?
Congratulations.
Nice. Nice work, buddy.
Buddy, we did it.
Good job. Good job.
Bill, we need to tell Jodi.
No, I don't know. She's had a ha
enough time with this already.
Thank you.
Jodi's gonna have to find out
the truth sooner or later.
She's already on to me.
She knows I'm lying to her.
She's too good of a detective.
I hear you.
But how do I tell her we tell we
think her mother didn't fall.
But that she might have been
murdered.
How do we tell her that?
