A trick of the light then.
Uh?
That Mouse guy you were

Yeah, there are ways that they're similar.
Ever since Cat's Eye came on the scene,
he's been pretty quiet,
but it looks like he's back up
to his old tricks again.
He operates at a much higher level
than a silly name like
Mouse would suggest.
As a journalist,
I'm thinking about calling him
the Gentleman Thief instead.
Let's not do this guy any favors.
He's a pest,
no matter how you look at him.
Do you think Mouse felt like Cat's Eye
was beating him at his own game,
so he had no choice but to come back?
[Masato] Ah, yes, Cat's Eye.
Hey, that reminds me.
There's a new exhibit
of German art opening tomorrow.
[Toshio] Uh, what about it?
You dimwit.
They're gonna be on it like catnip.
Is that not obvious to you?
[Toshio] Yeah,
that's definitely a possibility.
Just think what'd happen
if Mouse got in the mix too,
then things would get really good.
Oh, don't even say it out loud.
Cat's Eye and Mouse?
Let's see. Let's see.
What would the headline be?
"Thievery Showdown of the Century
at a German Art Exhibit.
"Who Will Walk Away The Victor?"
Something like that.
[groans softly]
If there is a showdown,
Cat's Eye would obviously win, hands down.
Hands down, you say?
Mm-mmm.
[chuckles] Yeah. I'll even bet you on it.
All right, and I happen to have an idea
- of what we could wager.
- [Ai] Hmm?
[whispering]
I can't check on that. Are you kidding?
- Okay. I guess I win the bet then.
- That's not fair.
The only reason
that you wouldn't go for it
is if you don't think
they actually have a chance.
[grumbles]
Whatever. You know what? You're on.
Hah! Now, that's what I like
to hear, young lady.
May the best thief win.
[Hitomi] What did you wager?
It's nothing you shouldn't have, right?
It doesn't matter, 'cause Cat's Eye's
coming out on top anyway.
[chuckles smugly]
[groans softly]
Now, hold on a second.
Your little bet is beside the point
because the police are going
to catch both of them first!
Oh, of course, keep telling yourself that.
[scrubbing]
So I'm wondering, Rui, are we planning
to hit that art exhibition,
the German one that Kamiya mentioned?
Yeah. It's on the docket.
[Hitomi] This painting.
[Rui] One of Cranaff's.
A Woman after a Bath.
When will we do it?
A week from today.
The middle of Sunday night.
A whole week from now?
Doesn't that give Mouse the edge on us?
- No, I don't believe so.
- Huh?
Because the Mouse doesn't have
any interest in artwork.
So you're saying that there won't be
any showdown at all?
By the way,
in this bet
that you made with him,
what on earth did you wager, Ai?
I can't stop thinking about it.
It ain't nothing, girl.
Nothing important. So don't worry.
[Hitomi] Hmm.
Once we finish closing up,
let's talk strategy.
[Ai and Hitomi] You got it.
So now we've got Cats and Mouse.
- Hmm.
- Detective, you seem quite concerned
about the movements of these criminals.
I am. The German art exhibit
just opened after all.
Yo, Broshio, I got something.
Cat's Eye served up
one of their announcements.
The Cats are the first to act.
Let me take a look at that.
[Toshio on bug] The strike time is set

Hmm.
GERMAN ART EXHIBITION VENUE
-THE DAY OF THE CRIME-
How long do we have
until Cat's Eye shows up?
[Asatani] Still 30 minutes to go, roughly.
Great.
Let's check all of our posts
one more time.
Copy.
- [clangs]
- [groans]
Shh.
There's a pipe that's in the way.
Yeah, Hitomi, I know that now. Ow.
You're really into this heist, huh?
You're normally not leading the charge
when it comes to stealing.
I've got to step up at some point.
I can't always rely on you two.
- Right?
- Hmm.
[Hitomi] This is it.
We're right on top of the painting here.
[Takeuchi] Hey, get them!
[Toshio] After them! Hurry!
Don't let them get away!
- Did they catch us?
- [Toshio] Go, go, go!
No, that's not it.
[both gasp]
- [Ai] Huh?
- [Masato] "I have taken
"A Woman after a Bath,
"foolish kittens. From Mouse."
Wha-- It was Mouse?
[all panting]
[Takeuchi] Crap! Where'd they get off to?
[Hirano] Cat's Eye stole it, right?
No. 'Cause we found a coin pendant
and a note left behind in the museum.
That means it was the Mouse!
[Masato grunts]
[chuckles]
- [rustling]
- Huh?
Hitomi, I'm sorry.
What are you talking about?
You have nothing to apologize for.
Not the heist.
It's about the bet that I made
with Kamiya the other day.
[Hitomi] Huh?
The agreement that we made was
that if he won,
he'd get to go out with you,
like on a date.
What?
[Ai] See you later.
- [door chime dings]
- [Ai panting]
- [gasping]
- How are you this morning, Ai?
You must be off to school.
Any chance of seeing Hitomi?
Oh, she's, uh
She's running errands.
Sorry about that.
Hmm?
[chuckling] I'm looking at her right now.
Uh, school's gonna be starting soon,
so I better get going. See ya!
[Ai whimpering, panting]
I'm really hating this title.
CAT'S EYE OUTSMARTED BY A MOUSE!
I can't believe that he wrote this.
I can't make sense of why Mouse would've
gone after the same piece as us.
- [door opens]
- Ai, did you leave something behind again?
- Uh
- Well!
[Hitomi] You can come back
when we're open, sir.
You didn't happen to see
my newest article, did you?
Oh, and it's not the coffee
that has brought me back to your cafe.
Ai has given you the good news,
I suppose, cara mia.
I'm here to sweep you
off your feet for our date.
[in Italian] Bellissima!
[in English] You're mistaken.
There is no date.
[sighs]
You're breaking my heart, Hitomi.
Whose heart's broken, you think?
You made a human being
the subject of a bet?
Turn that frown upside down, would ya?
It's only one little bitty date after all.
So shall we?
Never gonna happen.
And why should
some thief showdown dictate my life?
The beef between them has
nothing to do with me.
[Masato] Are you quite sure about that?
Huh?
You see, I was expecting those kitties
to show up
at the German art exhibition
at some point.
So I've been staking out
the museum every night.
And what do you know?
Here, take a look.
I just happened to snap
this jpeg, et voilà!
[gasps]
[Masato] Now it's a bit dark and blurred,
but this does look like a certain someone,
don't you think?
Does it?
I don't know who you mean.
If I give this to the cops,
they'll run it through their records.
And next thing you know,
they'll discover Cat's Eye's identity.
[Hitomi] Hm.
[door opens]
Well, it looks like you've got customers,
so I'll see myself out.
Oh, that's right.
Our little date. Give it some thought.
[Hitomi grumbles]
- [door opens]
- [doorbell chimes]
[Masato humming]
[Hitomi] Welcome in.
I've got our menu for you here.
[Masato] Whew! I really lucked out,
all things considered.
I only gave that bugged souvenir
to the girls
so I could pick up what nuggets
of intel Toshi might have dropped.
But it's led to so, so much more.
[Hitomi] So I'm wondering, really,
are we planning to hit
that art exhibition,
the German one that Kamiya mentioned?
- [Rui] Yeah, it's on the docket.
- [Masato] Hmm?
How about them apples?
Who could have thought
that those girls would be Cat's Eye?
And I can hear everything
they're plotting.
What are you gonna do about it,
kitties? [chuckles]
- [sighs wearily]
- [footsteps approaching]
Tell me what's going through your mind.
Well,
something's weird
about the other day.
Cat's Eye announced
that they would be stealing the painting,
but then the Mouse is the one
who made off with it.
Did they join forces or what?
In fact, I think it's the opposite.
Oh, yeah?
[Asatani] Cranaff's works are targeted
only by Cat's Eye.
Additionally, we have the note
left behind at the scene.
The evidence suggests
that they're competing with one another.
Hmm.
It's clear the Mouse views
Cat's Eye as an adversary, at any rate,
this incident could escalate things.
It's possible
that Cat's Eye could counterattack,
so we should be prepared.
[Toshio] Mmm.
[Masato] Mmm, this is the kind of blue
you can lose yourself in.
The kind of jewels
that just make you fall head over heels.
Hmm.
Right, let's see
how those kittens are doing.
They must be hissing up a storm.
[Rui] I've read everything
I could on Mouse.
His specialty is jewels, as expected.
He's never once stolen
a painting or other work of art.
[Ai] So this was a first for him?
Going after art out of nowhere like that.
Do you think he was competing with us?
[Rui] In all likelihood, yes.
Even as a jewel thief,
he only ever targets sapphires.
So this is new.
And knowing that,
the next place he'll target is this.
[Ai] Koei Jewelry?
[Rui] Word hasn't made it
into the public sphere yet,
but they just got
a Kashmir sapphire last week.
Well, well, I'm very impressed
with your research.
Then the idea is that we steal
the sapphire before him
and get the Mouse back for what he did.
That's the strategy.
I, for one, am all in
because if you pull on the Cat's tail,
you're gonna get the claws.
- Rawr.
- Hmm.
We take the jewel in two days.
We're going to need
some time to get prepared.
That Mouse is going to be
begging us for mercy.
Yeah. What do you say
when you lose in Italian?
Hmm, maybe something like "mamma mia"?
[Hitomi] By the time we're done with him,
he'll definitely be saying "mamma mia!"
That helps decide what headline
to use for my next story.
CAT'S EYE SAY "OH MY GOD" YET AGAIN!
COMPLETELY DEFEATED BY RA
[chuckling smugly]
[Masato chuckles softly]
Well, well, what day could be better
for me to take that sapphire?
I wonder if the kittens will be surprised
when this handsome phantom thief
nabs it out from under them.
KOEI JEWELRY
[hissing]
[grunts]
[chuckles smugly]
[dial ratcheting]
- [lock clicks]
- [chuckles, inhales sharply]
[exclaiming contentedly]
[door creaking]
[chuckles smugly]
[in Italian] Bellissima.
[in English] Ah, kitties, I am sorry.
Not that I'm keeping score,
but I've beaten you now, twice.
[Hitomi] Looks like you've been
hard at work, Mouse.
Who's there?
Should we call you Mouse?
Maybe it's better
that we use your real name here.
Masato Kamiya.
That's impossible.
How are you here?
After the other day,
we felt like we should return the favor.
- [Masato] You what?
- We heard you like sapphires.
But when it comes to identifying them,
you don't have the knack.
Huh? [gasps]
The real one's right here.
We grabbed it before you arrived
and replaced it with an imitation.
No! No one ever gets the better of Mouse.
How'd you get here before I did?
You haven't figured out that the tables
have been turned the entire time.
You've been playing right into our hands
from the beginning
and didn't even know it.
Huh?
And it wouldn't have even been possible
if you hadn't shown us
that photo you took.
Looking at this a second time,
something is off.
What do you mean?
[Rui] Well, the moon
is behind you, Hitomi.
On that particular night,
the moon was rising from the southwest.
What that means
is that this photo could
only have been taken
from within the museum's grounds.
Security there being what it was,
the only ones who could have
made it onto the premises
were the three of us and the Mouse.
- You're saying Kamiya is not--
- Shh.

UNRELATED
Uh
Ai, it's a school night.
Are you sure you have everything
all set out for tomorrow?
Thanks for reminding me.

Do you think Mouse felt like Cat's Eye
was beating him at his own game,
so he had no choice but to come back?
[Masato] Ah, yes, Cat's Eye.
Hey, that reminds me.
There's a new exhibit
of German art opening tomorrow.
[Toshio] Uh, what about it?
You dimwit.
They're gonna be on it like catnip.
Is that not obvious to you?
[Toshio] Yeah,
that's definitely a possibility.
Just think what'd happen
if Mouse got in the mix too,
then things would get really good.
Oh, don't even say it out loud.
Cat's Eye and Mouse?
Let's see. Let's see.
What would the headline be?
"Thievery Showdown of the Century
at a German Art Exhibit.
"Who Will Walk Away The Victor?"
Something like that.
[groans softly]
If there is a showdown,
Cat's Eye would obviously win, hands down.
Hands down, you say?
Mm-mmm.
[chuckles] Yeah. I'll even bet you on it.
All right, and I happen to have an idea
- of what we could wager.
- [Ai] Hmm?
[whispering]
I can't check on that. Are you kidding?
- Okay. I guess I win the bet then.
- That's not fair.
The only reason
that you wouldn't go for it
is if you don't think
they actually have a chance.
[grumbles]
Whatever. You know what? You're on.
Hah! Now, that's what I like
to hear, young lady.
May the best thief win.
[Hitomi] What did you wager?
It's nothing you shouldn't have, right?
It doesn't matter, 'cause Cat's Eye's
coming out on top anyway.
[chuckles smugly]
[groans softly]
Now, hold on a second.
Your little bet is beside the point
because the police are going
to catch both of them first!
Oh, of course, keep telling yourself that.
[scrubbing]
So I'm wondering, Rui, are we planning
to hit that art exhibition,
the German one that Kamiya mentioned?
Yeah. It's on the docket.
[Hitomi] This painting.
[Rui] One of Cranaff's.
A Woman after a Bath.
When will we do it?
A week from today.
The middle of Sunday night.
A whole week from now?
Doesn't that give Mouse the edge on us?
- No, I don't believe so.
- Huh?
Because the Mouse doesn't have
any interest in artwork.
So you're saying that there won't be
any showdown at all?
By the way,
in this bet
that you made with him,
what on earth did you wager, Ai?
I can't stop thinking about it.
It ain't nothing, girl.
Nothing important. So don't worry.
[Hitomi] Hmm.
Once we finish closing up,
let's talk strategy.
[Ai and Hitomi] You got it.
So now we've got Cats and Mouse.
- Hmm.
- Detective, you seem quite concerned
about the movements of these criminals.
I am. The German art exhibit
just opened after all.
Yo, Broshio, I got something.
Cat's Eye served up
one of their announcements.
The Cats are the first to act.
Let me take a look at that.
[Toshio on bug] The strike time is set
for this Sunday, 0100 hours.
Those adorable kittens
have been working hard.
And boy, is the reception
on this thing great!
Huh?
Hmm.
GERMAN ART EXHIBITION VENUE
-THE DAY OF THE CRIME-
How long do we have
until Cat's Eye shows up?
[Asatani] Still 30 minutes to go, roughly.
Great.
Let's check all of our posts
one more time.
Copy.
- [clangs]
- [groans]
Shh.
There's a pipe that's in the way.
Yeah, Hitomi, I know that now. Ow.
You're really into this heist, huh?
You're normally not leading the charge
when it comes to stealing.
I've got to step up at some point.
I can't always rely on you two.
- Right?
- Hmm.
[Hitomi] This is it.
We're right on top of the painting here.
[Takeuchi] Hey, get them!
[Toshio] After them! Hurry!
Don't let them get away!
- Did they catch us?
- [Toshio] Go, go, go!
No, that's not it.
[both gasp]
- [Ai] Huh?
- [Masato] "I have taken
"A Woman after a Bath,
"foolish kittens. From Mouse."
Wha-- It was Mouse?
[all panting]
[Takeuchi] Crap! Where'd they get off to?
[Hirano] Cat's Eye stole it, right?
No. 'Cause we found a coin pendant
and a note left behind in the museum.
That means it was the Mouse!
[Masato grunts]
[chuckles]
- [rustling]
- Huh?
Hitomi, I'm sorry.
What are you talking about?
You have nothing to apologize for.
Not the heist.
It's about the bet that I made
with Kamiya the other day.
[Hitomi] Huh?
The agreement that we made was
that if he won,
he'd get to go out with you,
like on a date.
What?
[Ai] See you later.
- [door chime dings]
- [Ai panting]
- [gasping]
- How are you this morning, Ai?
You must be off to school.
Any chance of seeing Hitomi?
Oh, she's, uh
She's running errands.
Sorry about that.
Hmm?
[chuckling] I'm looking at her right now.
Uh, school's gonna be starting soon,
so I better get going. See ya!
[Ai whimpering, panting]
I'm really hating this title.
CAT'S EYE OUTSMARTED BY A MOUSE!
I can't believe that he wrote this.
I can't make sense of why Mouse would've
gone after the same piece as us.
- [door opens]
- Ai, did you leave something behind again?
- Uh
- Well!
[Hitomi] You can come back
when we're open, sir.
You didn't happen to see
my newest article, did you?
Oh, and it's not the coffee
that has brought me back to your cafe.
Ai has given you the good news,
I suppose, cara mia.
I'm here to sweep you
off your feet for our date.
[in Italian] Bellissima!
[in English] You're mistaken.
There is no date.
[sighs]
You're breaking my heart, Hitomi.
Whose heart's broken, you think?
You made a human being
the subject of a bet?
Turn that frown upside down, would ya?
It's only one little bitty date after all.
So shall we?
Never gonna happen.
And why should
some thief showdown dictate my life?
The beef between them has
nothing to do with me.
[Masato] Are you quite sure about that?
Huh?
You see, I was expecting those kitties
to show up
at the German art exhibition
at some point.
So I've been staking out
the museum every night.
And what do you know?
Here, take a look.
I just happened to snap
this jpeg, et voilà!
[gasps]
[Masato] Now it's a bit dark and blurred,
but this does look like a certain someone,
don't you think?
Does it?
I don't know who you mean.
If I give this to the cops,
they'll run it through their records.
And next thing you know,
they'll discover Cat's Eye's identity.
[Hitomi] Hm.
[door opens]
Well, it looks like you've got customers,
so I'll see myself out.
Oh, that's right.
Our little date. Give it some thought.
[Hitomi grumbles]
- [door opens]
- [doorbell chimes]
[Masato humming]
[Hitomi] Welcome in.
I've got our menu for you here.
[Masato] Whew! I really lucked out,
all things considered.
I only gave that bugged souvenir
to the girls
so I could pick up what nuggets
of intel Toshi might have dropped.
But it's led to so, so much more.
[Hitomi] So I'm wondering, really,
are we planning to hit
that art exhibition,
the German one that Kamiya mentioned?
- [Rui] Yeah, it's on the docket.
- [Masato] Hmm?
How about them apples?
Who could have thought
that those girls would be Cat's Eye?
And I can hear everything
they're plotting.
What are you gonna do about it,
kitties? [chuckles]
- [sighs wearily]
- [footsteps approaching]
Tell me what's going through your mind.
Well,
something's weird
about the other day.
Cat's Eye announced
that they would be stealing the painting,
but then the Mouse is the one
who made off with it.
Did they join forces or what?
In fact, I think it's the opposite.
Oh, yeah?
[Asatani] Cranaff's works are targeted
only by Cat's Eye.
Additionally, we have the note
left behind at the scene.
The evidence suggests
that they're competing with one another.
Hmm.
It's clear the Mouse views
Cat's Eye as an adversary, at any rate,
this incident could escalate things.
It's possible
that Cat's Eye could counterattack,
so we should be prepared.
[Toshio] Mmm.
[Masato] Mmm, this is the kind of blue
you can lose yourself in.
The kind of jewels
that just make you fall head over heels.
Hmm.
Right, let's see
how those kittens are doing.
They must be hissing up a storm.
[Rui] I've read everything
I could on Mouse.
His specialty is jewels, as expected.
He's never once stolen
a painting or other work of art.
[Ai] So this was a first for him?
Going after art out of nowhere like that.
Do you think he was competing with us?
[Rui] In all likelihood, yes.
Even as a jewel thief,
he only ever targets sapphires.
So this is new.
And knowing that,
the next place he'll target is this.
[Ai] Koei Jewelry?
[Rui] Word hasn't made it
into the public sphere yet,
but they just got
a Kashmir sapphire last week.
Well, well, I'm very impressed
with your research.
Then the idea is that we steal
the sapphire before him
and get the Mouse back for what he did.
That's the strategy.
I, for one, am all in
because if you pull on the Cat's tail,
you're gonna get the claws.
- Rawr.
- Hmm.
We take the jewel in two days.
We're going to need
some time to get prepared.
That Mouse is going to be
begging us for mercy.
Yeah. What do you say
when you lose in Italian?
Hmm, maybe something like "mamma mia"?
[Hitomi] By the time we're done with him,
he'll definitely be saying "mamma mia!"
That helps decide what headline
to use for my next story.
CAT'S EYE SAY "OH MY GOD" YET AGAIN!
COMPLETELY DEFEATED BY RA
[chuckling smugly]
[Masato chuckles softly]
Well, well, what day could be better
for me to take that sapphire?
I wonder if the kittens will be surprised
when this handsome phantom thief
nabs it out from under them.
KOEI JEWELRY
[hissing]
[grunts]
[chuckles smugly]
[dial ratcheting]
- [lock clicks]
- [chuckles, inhales sharply]
[exclaiming contentedly]
[door creaking]
[chuckles smugly]
[in Italian] Bellissima.
[in English] Ah, kitties, I am sorry.
Not that I'm keeping score,
but I've beaten you now, twice.
[Hitomi] Looks like you've been
hard at work, Mouse.
Who's there?
Should we call you Mouse?
Maybe it's better
that we use your real name here.
Masato Kamiya.
That's impossible.
How are you here?
After the other day,
we felt like we should return the favor.
- [Masato] You what?
- We heard you like sapphires.
But when it comes to identifying them,
you don't have the knack.
Huh? [gasps]
The real one's right here.
We grabbed it before you arrived
and replaced it with an imitation.
No! No one ever gets the better of Mouse.
How'd you get here before I did?
You haven't figured out that the tables
have been turned the entire time.
You've been playing right into our hands
from the beginning
and didn't even know it.
Huh?
And it wouldn't have even been possible
if you hadn't shown us
that photo you took.
Looking at this a second time,
something is off.
What do you mean?
[Rui] Well, the moon
is behind you, Hitomi.
On that particular night,
the moon was rising from the southwest.
What that means
is that this photo could
only have been taken
from within the museum's grounds.
Security there being what it was,
the only ones who could have
made it onto the premises
were the three of us and the Mouse.
- You're saying Kamiya is not--
- Shh.
TALK ABOUT SOMETHING
UNRELATED
Uh
Ai, it's a school night.
Are you sure you have everything
all set out for tomorrow?
Thanks for reminding me.
I've got PE,
so I should put out my gym clothes.
[Hitomi] Double-check
so you don't forget anything.
- [Ai] Yeah, okay. I got it.
- [Rui grunts]
[gasps]
LET'S DISPOSE OF I
QUICKLY!
Mm.
LET'S USE I
[Rui] I've read everything
I could on Mouse.
His specialty is jewels, as expected.
He's never once stolen
a painting or other work of art.
So this was a first for him?
Going after art out of nowhere like that.
You think he was trying
to compete with us?
[Rui] Everything you heard through
that bug souvenir you gave us
was phony intel that we scripted out
and performed for you.
We fed you the time and place,
and all you had to do was take the bait.
You played your part beautifully.
Kamiya just left. It's your move now.
[Hitomi] Copy that.
[door creaking]
[chuckles]
[Hitomi] Then we nabbed the real sapphire
and replaced it with the fake one.
[grumbles]
[Rui] Something else,
this night vision camera
has been a big help.
It's how I got crystal clear footage
of you stealing that jewel just now.
So as far as taking that photo
into the police goes,
I don't think that's such a great idea.
Yeah, you kitties are good.
- [siren wailing in distance]
- Huh?
[Rui] Gosh, they got here fast.
Wait! You called the cops?
Yeah. And I don't think any of us can
afford to be caught here,
so we should be going, don't you think?
Oh, yeah, and one more thing.
Hmm?
This means that we're tied one-to-one now.
So why don't we pretend
that none of this happened?
[grumbles]
[sighs]
Got it.
[sirens blaring]
[Toshio] All right, Cats, show yourselves.
[Toshio grunts] Huh?
WE'RE RETURNING THIS
- [Asatani gasps]
- [Toshio] They did what now?
What the heck does any of this mean?
Let's go! That's mission complete. Hmm?
[grumbles] Cat's Eye,
those darn fur balls.
Of course we're not even.
I'm gonna get you back for this.
[gasps]
My treasured painting
Woman after a Bath has gone missing!
WE HAVE CLAIMED A WOMAN AFTER A BATH
FOOLISH RAT PUP
And those kitties were
the ones who took it! [grunting]
[in Italian] Mamma mia!
[in English] I think
I just heard him screaming.
Did he really say it?
Yeah, he went, "Mamma mia!" [chuckles]
[all laughing]
[closing theme song playing]
