You know, this place is chock-full
of the best security measures
money can buy.
Seems kind of silly to have
so many guards posted up everywhere.
And anyway, those Cat's Eye burglars
specialize in artwork,
so the chances they show up here
are pretty low.
[guard 2] That's true.
[guard 1] Which is not to say
that we don't have nice stuff here.
I mean, take the Windsor dynasty sapphire,
worth a fortune,
but I doubt Cat's Eye
is gonna go after it.
[groans softly]
[guard 1] Seems like a good time
to tell you that I drugged your coffee.
Now, if someone were to make off
with that sapphire, well,
that'd be me.
[whirring]
[alarm blaring]
[chuckles softly]
[guard 3] We've got an intruder!
Get after him!
- [panting]
- This is all part of the fun.
[guards grunting, shouting]
[guard 4] Huh? Hey! Where is he going?
[Masato grunts]
[guards gasp]
[chuckles smugly]
[chuckling softly]

#5 THE GENTLEMAN THIEF IS HERE!
The coin pendant is the telltale marker.
This was the work of the Mouse.
There have been three other crimes
just this month using similar techniques.
He doesn't seem interested
in anything but valuable sapphires.
[grunts] That dirty rodent!
He hasn't been active at all
the last year, so I thought that he quit.
Turns out he's been around
this whole time, up to his old tricks,
while I've been distracted with Cat's Eye!
[grunts softly]
Uh It's empty.
I've got a refill on the house
if you want it.
That'd be great.
Are you sure you don't mind?
If it'll get you out of your bad mood.
Yeah. Toshio, is everything going okay?

[man] It's that darn Mouse, isn't it?

"A robbery at a department store

[Toshio grunts]
[Ai] Is Mouse a person?
He's a mysterious,
jewel-stealing gentleman.

[man] The police settled on that nickname
because he's known for being elusive,
quick and crafty,
just like
the little cheese-loving mammals.
You can tell when the Mouse has struck
because he leaves behind
his trademark coin pendant at the scene.

Ciao, Toshinetto. How you been?
Wait. The two of you know each other?
We sure do.
This is Kamiya.
He's a freelance journalist.
He used to haunt the precinct
to get material for his stories.
It's been a long time, hasn't it?

I've been working in Milan,
so I must have slipped back into Italian.

Ever since Cat's Eye came on the scene,
he's been pretty quiet,
but it looks like he's back up
to his old tricks again.
He operates at a much higher level
than a silly name like
Mouse would suggest.
As a journalist,
I'm thinking about calling him
the Gentleman Thief instead.
Let's not do this guy any favors.
He's a pest,
no matter how you look at him.
Do you think Mouse felt like Cat's Eye
was beating him at his own game,
so he had no choice but to come back?

they actually have a chance.

to hit that art exhibition,
the German one that Kamiya mentioned?

Then the idea is that we steal
the sapphire before him
and get the Mouse back for what he did.
That's the strategy.

because if you pull on the Cat's tail,
you're gonna get the claws.

some time to get prepared.

made it onto the premises
