Well, first and foremost, I obviously care
so much for your daughter.
You guys have done a phenomenal job.
So I wanted to commend you for that.
Um, I just felt the way things
were going previously dating,
they just weren't working.
Okay.
Um, and I felt like I was repeating
some of the same mistakes,
just a different person.
-There's a common denominator.
-Exactly. It's me. So what's going on?
What do I need to dive into and have,
a better understanding of myself?
So what… what are the quirky things
that you've noticed about each other
or things that you didn't expect?
There's nothing really
out of… out of the ordinary.
Like she's very clean.
[Pfeifer chuckling]
-[Derrick] Which is--
-Really?
-Stop, stop!
-[all laughing]
Oh, is she putting on, Stacie?
Is this not?
Like what?
-Okay, that's a different conversation.
-I am-- I am clean.
[Stacie] Okay.
So if you guys decide
that you wanna continue a relationship,
what are your ideas
on how to make that work?
-[Pfeifer] Right.
-Yep.
Um, so this is something, I mean,
we haven't really talked about.
I'm the more flexible one because,
of course, um, I'm younger than Derrick.
-Ah, okay. By how much, I'm curious.
-[Pfeifer chuckling]
-[Derrick chuckling]
-Um… [chuckling]
-[Derrick] So…
-Quite a bit.
Um…
So I'm 43.
[dramatic sting]
Okay.
-You look good for 43.
-[Stacie] Wow!
Yeah, and so we didn't know
each other's ages.
-That was…
-Wow.
-I would never have thought you're 43.
-Oh, well, thank you.
-I was shocked. I was shocked.
-[Stacie] No, none.
Do you have any concerns
about Pfeifer's age?
I'm accepting of the generational gap.
I just know
there are gonna be some differences.
As long as we're both open.
That was… that was my biggest concern.
So right now,
it's like, let's build during the bubble
and continue to get to know each other.
So when we do have the challenges…
-…then we can rely on that.
-Yeah.
[pensive music playing]
Um, so Derrick has two children as well.
Um, but one of the things
that, I mean, drew me to Derrick was…
You guys know I want a big family.
-I want a bunch of kids.
-[Stacie] Yeah.
Um, and so he already has that maturity
and that understanding of, like,
what it takes to raise children.
-Um, and he does--
-How old are your children?
Fifteen and five.
-Okay. Wow, that's a big gap.
-[Stacie] Wow.
-[Stacie] It's a big gap. I know.
-Okay.
Primarily, I was looking for somebody
who had their life together,
who's mature, who is open-minded
and not judgmental and understanding
and, like, meets me where I'm at in life.
Um, I hold you in such a high regard
and such a high respect.
Um, and it's like, yeah,
I'm proud to be with somebody
who is, like, has done so much
and accomplished so much,
but still is, like, a very genuine,
down-to-earth, authentic person.
Family is the most important thing
and love and showing that.
So it's… it's flowing smoothly.
-Okay. That's important stuff.
-[Derrick] Yeah.
Absolutely.
-Could we have a chat as well?
-Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
Absolutely. All right.
-Okay, so fill me in.
-[Pfeifer] About what?
Like everything
or how I'm feeling or what?
-How are you feeling?
-[Pfeifer] I feel great.
And it sounds, like, ridiculous, kind of,
um, but, like, we have been so lucky.
Like, we have been--
We have had the best experience.
We have had, like,
literally no arguments, no fights.
-Uh, being 23…
-[Pfeifer] Mm-hmm.
…and potentially having
two immediate children?
[Pfeifer] Yeah.
I mean, like, it is…
it is what it is, I guess.
And you hated babysitting.
And I was bad at babysitting,
which I haven't told him that.
I haven't even told him
that I did babysit.
[Durwood] In this setting,
how much can you know about a person?
But the ease between the two of you, like,
it's actually unusual
for her to be that comfortable.
-That's like a big thing.
-[Derrick] Yeah.
I mean, you know, your daughter,
obviously, she'll get worked up.
And I'm like, "Just roll, you know,
with the punches a little bit."
"It'll be fine."
But her mind
will just take off. [chuckling]
-You know?
-Yeah. So it'll be interesting.
-Yeah.
-To see how this unfolds.
Right.
When Pfeifer sets her mind to something,
she does it. [chuckling]
And it may not-- It may not be easy,
but if… if the relationship
is important to her and she loves Derrick,
um, she will make this situation work.
[voice breaking] I think
it's like joy that…
I know this is a weird way
to express joy, uh…
But when you can get to a place
where you trust your kid,
you feel so fortunate.
[music fades]
-So when you're 40 and he's 60…
-Yep. Mm-hmm.
…do you have
worries or concerns about that?
Or when he, you know…
You're 50 and he's 70?
Um, I mean, that's a great question.
I know it's hard,
I've never done this in my life,
but, like, live, like, day by day.
But yeah, I mean, it is--
It's kind of funny.
-Very surreal.
-[Pfeifer] Yeah.
They seem to have a great connection.
And frankly,
the communication that it seems they have
is stronger than
I've seen Pfeifer have with anyone.
But this is a little microcosm
that isn't the real world.
So when you have to deal
with the day-to-day of,
you know, children's schedules
or a mom being in the picture,
it could be a make-or-break.
It may be too much
for either one or both of them.
That's a challenge.
[upbeat music playing]

a lot of the times to younger girls.

what's the word?
That's not my MO here.
I understand where you're coming from
with the whole big sister vibe,
but these are his children, Libby.
It's not like a, oh,

But for me,
I've learned that the things
that make it kind of hard to navigate,
like, the fact that he has kids
and the fact that he's older
have been all the reasons that I like him
and that make him the person that he is.
And that finally are like
the emotionally intelligent man

I feel like
even just the way she's speaking to us,
