The Librarians: The Next Chapter (2025) s01e06 Episode Script
And the House of Cards
1
[explosion]
Oh God, I told you I could
have Macguyvered a controlled
explosive designed
for minimal damage
so that we didn’t have
to blow up
the entire rock formation.
It would take too long.
You obliterated an ancient site
that could have illuminated
so much about the geology
of the region.
And sir, you did almost blow
your own face off
in the process.
As Connor informed me,
chickens dig scars.
Chicks dig scars.
Why would chickens
You know what? Never mind.
What is this thing anyway?
Ah, that is
the Dagger of Seraphim.
No ordinary poniard.
It was fashioned from the ashes
of a fallen star
and can kill what does not live.
According to legend,
it was forged
by the Devil himself.
Kill what does not live?
Like a virus? That could
revolutionize health care?
Uh, I’m more concerned
about the Devil part.
Well, the devil, they say,
is in the detail.
But why now,
after all these years,
has the Dagger of Seraphim
decided to reveal itself?
Ah, Connor,
relinquish the blade.
It needs
to be handled properly by--
No. You know what?
We are a team.
But you still don’t trust us.
And the truth is, you need us.
What I need from you, Connor, is
to hand over that blade
before you poke your eye out.
Think fast.
I always think fast.
No, it means
it means catch.
[music]
If you’re going to be such
a rumbumptious bellyacher
about the whole thing, here.
Take the dagger.
You may be the one to escort it
back to the Library.
Wow, thanks.
It must have been really hard
for you.
[music]
[electrical zapping]
[theme music]
[music]
Um, this isn’t the Annex.
What is this place?
[dramatic music]
Where’s Vikram?
Okay. Come on through.
Let’s not dilly-dally.
[dramatic music]
Where are you?
We need to complete this mission
and get this dagger back
where it belongs.
[dramatic music]
Oh [chuckles].
Very good.
The leg-pull is on me.
Point made.
Showing me
just how much I need you.
Well then, two, or rather four,
can play at that game.
[dramatic music]
Mm.
Finally.
Some peace and quiet.
Far more suitable to my nature.
No
needful trainees
clucking at my heels.
Right, enough is enough.
Connor, Lysa, Charlie,
end this japery at once!
[suspenseful music]
[static, zapping, beeping]
There has got to be a reason
why the Door glitched.
Maybe it short-circuited.
Uh, power fluctuations are
the most common cause
of voltage issues.
Lysa, there’s nothing scientific
about the magic door.
Alright, it’s right
there in the name.
Magic. Door.
Doesn’t get things wrong.
I bet this is a test.
I think Vikram set this up
to prove that we can’t complete
a mission
- without him.
- [Lysa] Okay.
Intellectual challenge?
I could get on board with that.
That’s the spirit.
If this is a test, you really
should have run it by me.
Guys, I have
a really bad feeling about this.
No. This’ll be fun.
Come on, let’s go look
for clues.
[people chattering]
[thunder rumbles]
[chatter continues]
[music]
[thunder rumbling]
My, my.
What a stormy night.
The phone lines are down,
and the roads are blocked off
for miles.
[indistinct chatter]
[music]
Saw you eyeing me
from across the room.
Ah, yes.
I am the actor Chauncey Cooper.
Would you like my autograph?
How I love you, Philip.
And I you, Vera.
This place is weird.
Yeah.
[music]
Connor Green.
Yvette Laszlo.
Well, I’m a singer by night.
And by day?
Wouldn’t you like to know?
So, uh, you come here often?
First time.
Although
it feels oddly familiar.
[bell ringing]
Welcome all.
Madam Visconti will begin
her world-renowned
tarot reading shortly.
Tarot reading?
What is going on?
We really need to get
that dagger
back to the Library
for safekeeping.
Well, it is nice and safe
in here.
Cheese puffs?
The Bollingsworth Affair ?
Really?
It is a very,
very good detective series.
What?
You thought
that you would be able
to squeeze in some light reading
in between our famously
relaxing missions?
Maybe.
We might be stuck here a while.
- Hello, sir.
- Hello.
I am Mysterious Mortadello.
Right.
I don’t suppose a man
with a devil-may-care attitude
- has left a message for us?
- Uh, no.
But I have two wands for you.
Or should I say, he does.
No need for tip.
No.
I’ve got that covered.
That is so cool.
How do they do that?
Seriously, Con,
we work with a time-traveling
relic hunter
whose office is
a sentient library,
and that impressed you?
[frustrated wail]
We’ve been waiting for so long!
I’m bored! I hate it here!
Ladies.
That right there is
Princess Lucille.
You see, her parents owned
the place,
so she’s quite used to getting
her own way,
if you know what I mean.
Shame. Real shame
what happened to them.
That there is Sister Annabelle.
The nun. Her new nanny.
Nunny! [laughs]
Sounds like a great film.
The Nunny.
[bell ringing]
Madam Visconti
is ready for you.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
It appears this globe is
the key to this thing.
Door.
Charlie is not here
to activate you,
so it is time to listen to me.
Hm?
Activate.
At once.
[dramatic music]
Listen.
I must retrieve the Dagger
of Seraphim.
It is too dangerous to be
out there in the open.
And yes, I admit it.
I am growing worried
about Lysa, Connor and Charley.
They could be in danger.
Do you hear me?
This damnable new technology!
We didn’t have magic doors
in my day, no.
We had something called horses.
[dramatic music]
Steward of the telephone?
Call Connor.
[Cellphone Voice]
Calling Connor.
Thank you.
How can a voicemail be full?
Must you empty it like
a chamber pot?
Oh. Ugh!
[suspenseful music]
Mr. Cooper,
if you wouldn’t mind
switching seats, please.
Thank you.
[thunder rumbles]
[screams]
Hey, hey, don’t worry.
Thunder is scary.
It’s kind of like the sky
is having a tantrum.
You wouldn’t know anything
about tantrums now, would you?
[bell rings]
[suspenseful music]
Whoa, that looks
like the Sforza tarot deck.
We are here to delve
into our past,
present,
and future.
The Fool.
Magician.
The High Priestess.
[thunder crashing]
[frightened chatter]
[woman screams]
Get her out of here.
Vera! Vera!
A knife wound.
About an inch wide,
with another smaller
incision here.
This was made by a lightning
bolt-shaped dagger.
That’s impossible.
I have the dagger, right
[dramatic music]
Uh-oh.
[suspenseful music]
[Lysa] We have been here
half an hour
and you have already lost
the artifact?
How did anyone know
I had it on me?
Well, I don’t know.
Maybe the fortune teller looked
into your mind and heard dagger,
- dagger, cheese puffs, dagger.
- Um, I’ll have you know--
Guys, that artifact is
our responsibility.
- If we don’t get it back--
- We’re gonna get it back.
- We’re not gonna fail the test.
- We need to find Vikram.
No, we don’t need to find Vik.
We can find
the dagger ourselves.
- Come on.
- Yeah, come on.
[dramatic music]
Quiet!
There’s been a murder here,
and we need to find the weapon,
and until we do so,
no one is safe.
We’ll question all of you,
and get to the bottom of this.
Until then, no one is
to leave this house, understood?
- And who are you exactly?
- Yeah.
Why, this
is
Chief Inspector Poppy
Bollingsworth of Scotland Yard.
The murder of her parents
when she was just a child
drove her into a career
of solving crime.
An obsession
she swears isn’t personal,
but has completely taken over
every aspect of her life.
- Well, it sounds good to me.
- Yeah.
[dramatic music]
Do I look like a Poppy to you?
Where did that come from?
The Bollingsworth Affair !
You guys gotta read it.
If we want that dagger back,
we need to solve a murder.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
No, the globe is not
in another dimension.
It is not in liquid form.
It has not been possessed.
I just don’t know
how to work it.
An appendix this mystery
shall solve.
Ha.
"If you cannot open the door,
"please use the backup door.
"If you do not have
the backup door,
please retrieve
the backup door."
What do you mean?!
If my charges are maimed,
injured,
or hurt in any way,
I blame you.
I have to ask you
some questions.
A real magician never reveals
his secrets.
It’s not about the card trick.
Oh, you need an alibi.
How about I interest you
in something
completely different?
That is so cool.
It’s mine.
So you’re just not gonna answer
my question?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
You’ve taken a vow of silence.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
And a vow not to kill anyone.
Very convenient.
[dramatic music]
Miss Laszlo,
you don’t seem too upset
by the events of today.
When you’ve been
in show business
as long as I have, darling,
nothing surprises you.
[Lysa] Does that mean
you’re saying
that this murder was
professionally motivated?
He was an actor.
A cutthroat profession,
and they do mean that.
Literally.
[thunder rumbles]
You want one?
[Connor]
Earlier, before the reading,
Chauncey Cooper, the actor,
whispered something to you.
I think you’re mistaken, sir.
He leaned over,
whispered in your ear,
and you smiled.
What did he say?
Philip,
it’s not
It wasn’t It was nothing.
- It was nothing.
- It doesn’t sound like nothing.
And what of your mistakes?
I’ve owned up to my mistakes.
Have you?
After you lost all of our money
to that slimy Carmelito,
you swore
your gambling days were over.
Well, excuse me
if I needed a way
to get my mind off things
while my own bride
has been cavorting
behind my back with an actor!
[quietly] Wow.
I am really good at this.
[Charlie] So did you know
Chauncey Cooper?
See any of his movies?
Oh, I don’t really have
much opportunity
to go to the movies.
I imagine taking care
of a princess eats up
a lot of your time.
It must be even harder
in a situation like this.
She’s a fighter.
Well, I hope you’re not
a fighter.
How’s that?
My uncle.
He was very religious.
And when me and my siblings
were acting up,
he would remind my parents,
"Do not embitter your children,
or they will become
discouraged."
Ephesians 3:21.
Of course, one of my favorites.
Although it is
sometimes difficult
for Lucille to not be bitter.
You see, her parents
[clock chimes]
Oh.
It’s nine.
Oh, I’m sorry, Inspector
Bollingsworth,
but I must go.
Lucille will be wondering
where am I.
Please, you know
where to find me
if you need anything.
[dramatic music]
And why did you make him
switch seats?
- I beg your pardon?
- [Lysa] At the reading.
The actor, you made him
switch seats.
He was sitting next to Vera.
I’m sorry, madam.
I don’t recall.
I make many adjustments
to the plans,
menus, any number of things,
and I cater to the whims
of many guests.
It’s so hard to keep track.
So, would you like some tea?
Or perhaps this night requires
something stronger?
Uh, tea, please.
[suspenseful music]
What would you do, Vikram?
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
Damn you, Door!
Connor, Lysa, and Charlie are
on the other side of you.
They need my assistance.
I can sense it.
[chain jingling]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
Tremendously easy.
Now, take me to my cohort.
[dramatic music]
So, uh, did she ask about me?
- Who?
- Yvette, the lounge singer.
She has a thing for me.
No, she does not.
- Who made you that tea?
- The butler.
- Don’t drink it.
- But why?
Didn’t you say he was evasive?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, that tea is so poisoned.
None of my suspects would ever
try to poison me.
Connor, this isn’t
a competition.
Or a Librarian test.
[Conner] Uh, it is.
And here’s what I learned.
Vera was having an affair
with Chauncey, the actor.
And Philip just lost
all their money to Carmelito,
- the mobster guy.
- Who?
Pinstripe, mustache.
Have you noticed everyone here
is almost
Two-dimensional?
Not quite real?
Yeah.
And they’re
all hiding something.
I quoted a Bible verse
to Sister Annabelle
and said it was from Ephesians.
She didn’t bat an eye.
But the verse wasn’t
from Ephesians,
it was from Colossians.
A nun should know that.
How doNever mind.
Guys, they’re all working
for Vikram.
This is all planned, man.
No, I think it’s weirder
than that.
I think someone knew
that we had the dagger.
I don’t think
it was a coincidence
that the door sent us here
right after we retrieved it.
I know that you said
the door can’t glitch.
But could it be hacked?
I suppose someone could hack it.
Divert it.
But there would have to be
a very powerful magician.
[gasps]
There is a magician
in the house.
Huh?
Fine.
But we have to start acting
like a team
if we wanna get out of here.
Vikram or no Vikram.
So, let’s split up,
and look for the magician.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Any sign of the magician?
Nothing.
Just check
the entire ground floor.
I’ve asked around
and no one’s seen him.
Okay, okay.
What would Vikram do?
Ignore us and go off on his own.
Yeah.
[woman screams]
[dramatic music]
[Connor] Sorry, sorry.
[Charlie] Hey.
[Connor] The magician?
[dramatic music]
He’s dead.
[dramatic sting]
We’re all gonna be dead
by the morning.
Not if I can help it.
There’s still a killer
on the loose.
The safest thing for you all
to do is
to return to your rooms
and lock the doors. Go.
You heard her. Come on.
You too.
[dramatic music]
The Dagger of Seraphim
strikes again.
Why in a mansion full
of knives and weapons would
the murderer need
the Dagger of Seraphim?
Vikram said it kills
what doesn’t live.
Well, clearly it also kills
things that do live.
Okay. Let’s search the room.
Maybe the murderer stashed it
somewhere
so it’s not gonna be
on his person.
Really gonna look
in every single book?
If I had a study like this,
at least half the books would
have secret little compartments.
You and Vikram really are
two peas in a pod, aren’t you?
He must have knocked that over
as he was dying.
Smashed on the ground
and expelled dirt over here,
and it stops there.
She’s got her math face on.
But the arc-shaped dispersal
of the dirt indicates a door
that swept away the mess.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
A secret passageway?
We need to
Sorry.
We need to get one
of these in the Annex.
[suspenseful music]
You’ve got terrible priorities,
Connor.
[suspenseful music]
That’s
from the Dagger of Seraphim.
The entire hilt had jewels
just like it.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
This is the tower room.
Wait.
This is the same corner
where Sister Annabelle took
Princess Lucille
to comfort her
after the Actor’s death.
The nun could have stashed
a dagger here,
and retrieved it
after we interviewed her.
Plus, she was pretty rusty
on her scriptures.
Anyone else think we should sit
the nunny down
for a few more questions?
Come on.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
I found you!
You.
You look familiar.
Who are you?
And where are my f
colleagues?
Two women and a man.
I do not wish to play cards.
You must know where they are.
Oh.
Well, in that case,
I shall tear this house asunder
in search of my coterie, hmm?
I see a wise man.
A man of books.
[suspenseful music]
A man not of this world.
A man out of time.
[suspenseful music]
You must speak
through the cards.
[suspenseful music]
I would like a reading.
Sister Annabelle’s not
in her room.
Then where could she be?
[suspenseful music]
[Lucille screams]
I’m sorry I was out of my room.
I was looking
for Sister Annabelle.
I don’t want her to be angry
with me.
Are you okay?
Do you think
this was targeted at us?
Or her?
When you were
with Sister Annabelle,
did you see
a lightning bolt-shaped dagger
with a weird-shaped handle?
[suspenseful music]
This isn’t a game anymore.
My job is to protect you,
and I say we’re leaving.
- Dagger or no dagger.
- We can’t leave.
These people are in danger,
and it’s our fault.
We brought the dagger here. I
I lost it.
And if we leave and give up now,
- it’ll prove that--
- Prove what?
That Vik doesn’t need us.
[suspenseful music]
[struggling to open door]
It’s locked.
Go, go.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
What is happening?
What the hell is that?
[Madam Visconti] It is Death.
[suspenseful music]
And you cannot leave.
Why is Death here?
We need to figure out
how to get out of here.
More importantly,
where here even is.
There is one person
who seems to know
what’s going on.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
What is this place?
I am but a servant to the cards.
This isn’t getting us anywhere.
We’d like a reading, please.
[suspenseful music]
No cage can contain it.
No shackles can constrain it.
None on this earth, anyway.
Centuries ago,
they constructed this place
to confine it.
Disguised in plain sight.
[dramatic music]
Yes.
I knew this place
looked familiar.
I have seen drawings
and journals.
Centuries ago,
the Sforza family created
a prison for the Devil,
guarded by three keepers.
The location of the prison
has always remained a mystery.
This is the old Sforza Manor?
And it’s a prison to the Devil?
Whoa, how did you get there?
But this is the Sforza deck.
It’s the oldest surviving
tower deck in the world.
The Eight of Swords represents
being bound and helpless,
imprisonment.
The Justice card stands
for fairness and law.
And combined with
the Eight of Swords
Consequences
And the Devil card is
Just the Devil.
Wait.
They trapped the actual Devil
in here?
The Devil is like time.
Fluid, multidimensional.
Hard to pin down as
he is everywhere and nowhere.
- Do you understand?
- No.
I extremely do not understand.
In the 15th century,
the Sforzas were somehow able
to create a magical prison
for an aspect of the Devil.
No one is quite sure how,
but the enchantment involved
three keepers
to lock the Devil,
or part of it, inside.
The Keeper’s Three.
The Trinity.
The bulwark between it and thee.
[dramatic music]
I think this is
why people are being murdered.
Look.
You don’t think?
Yeah, I do.
I think the Devil is killing
his keepers.
First the Fool,
then the Magician.
So if the High Priestess
is eliminated,
the Devil can escape.
How do I get in?
It’s not how you get in
that should concern you.
It’s how to get back out.
[suspenseful music]
The door is locked.
And the key is the end
of your story.
[suspenseful music]
That thing outside is Death?
Well, that’s not good.
A thing is not good or bad.
A thing is a thing.
How you react to it is
up to you.
Yeah, but it’s Death.
Literal death.
No.
Actually, I don’t think
it is literal death.
What do you mean?
Okay, so we have Death.
We had a Magician.
The Fool was the actor.
Guys, we’re inside
the Sforza deck.
[suspenseful music]
Okay, okay, so there are
22 major arcana cards
in the standard deck.
Face cards.
The Fool, the Empress,
the Hierophant, etc.
Okay, so What?
There are, uh
22 people inside the house,
and Death is outside.
That’s too many people.
The Lovers count as one.
Philip and Vera, the newlyweds.
And Yvette is the Star.
And the silent friar
is the Hermit.
Okay, if all that is true,
then what does it mean?
It means tarot cards can
have multiple interpretations.
And it means that we need
to figure out who the Devil is.
And the High Priestess.
So we can protect her.
Well, the High Priestess is
usually depicted wearing
a crown or a diadem--
Princess Lucille.
You said that Sister Annabelle
didn’t know her scripture.
She’s acting more
and more suspicious.
We really need to find that nun
and hold her feet to the fire.
My three friends are trapped
in the Devil’s prison,
and they need my help.
Yes, but it won’t be easy.
Oh, it never is.
If the Librarian enters
the prison,
Death will come for him.
It’s never stopped me before.
[dramatic music]
Pendulum, take me to my friends.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
I can’t find them anywhere.
- Nothing.
- Same.
[Lucille screams]
God, if I don’t hear
another far-off scream
for the rest of my life,
it’ll be too soon.
[Lucille] Help! Help me!
Get away from her.
No, no, no,
I was just trying to
Just trying to kill
your last keeper?
[metallic sound, stab]
[Annabelle gasps]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Oh, my God.
We were wrong.
Sister Annabelle’s
the final keeper.
She’s the High Priestess,
which means
Princess Lucille is
Devilishly adorable?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
You only pretended to be afraid
of the storm earlier.
And when you comforted me,
it was all too easy
to steal the dagger
from your bag.
See where being kind
to children gets you?
But why?
Why that dagger?
- Why do you need us?
- [Connor] Wait.
The dagger kills
what doesn’t live.
Your keepers were tarot cards,
they weren’t actually alive.
I’ve waited for centuries
for a librarian
to find that dagger.
And when they hid it
away long ago,
I set up a number of traps
that will alert me
to its discovery.
Your merry band set off
every single one of them.
What did you do?
Blow up the entire cave?
Damn it, Vikram.
Wait, you know
about the Librarian?
Oh, yes.
I’ve had unfortunate dealings
with librarians.
They can be quite useful,
if need be.
With the dagger uncovered,
I could feel
my powers returning.
And I was able to reroute
your little Magic Door
just in time for you to walk
right into my prison.
So, what now?
The Sforza family kept me
trapped here
in the 15th century using
an ancient curse.
They commissioned
a tarot card deck
that would keep me locked away,
guarded by three keepers.
So the Sforza shut you away
in plain sight.
And I assume part of
the enchantment would enable it
to manifest itself in a way
that we would understand.
[Lucille] Yes.
Otherwise, your feeble minds
would not be able
to comprehend the reality
in here.
You would go mad.
I believe for the Sforza,
it was an Italian Court.
But for you, it seems to be--
A cozy Agatha Christie
murder house?
I don’t care for it.
Now all that’s left is one
more part of my plan.
And you are going to provide me
my escape out of this prison.
No, we’ll never let you escape.
[dramatic music]
[Connor] Vikram?
Oh, thank God.
Right on time.
[Connor] Vik, she’s the devil.
We’re trapped in a tarot deck.
Death is outside,
and we don’t have the key.
And we can’t just leave.
Otherwise, she would just
reroute the Magic Door,
and all of her keepers are dead,
and she’s basically free.
Hmm. You’ve certainly been busy.
Well, idle hands are
my workshop.
It seems that if you’ve killed
your three keepers,
then you are free
to leave this prison.
Hmm. That’s only fair.
You’ve worked ever so hard.
You tracked us down,
rerouted our Magic Door,
trapped my three friends.
And you have opened
a door for me
to walk out of this prison,
just like I knew you would.
Oh, please.
The door is yours.
Vikram, you can’t!
Do you really think
you could stop me,
the Devil?
Of course.
No one would be foolish enough
to try to stop you.
[suspenseful music]
This is a trick.
No librarian would just
let me walk out of here.
Well, I suppose you’ll have
to walk through to find out.
But that’s how I got in here
the first time.
Librarian’s deceit.
Today, I have had to retrieve
a long-lost artifact
from a booby-trapped cave,
tear apart my annex looking
for a way
to summon this Magic Door
without my team,
analyze a tarot reading
from an enigmatic
fortune teller,
and then travel
through dimensions
to arrive here.
It’s been a very long day.
So, if you’ll just be going.
I’ll figure out your plan,
Librarian.
Hmm. Well, then.
You had better think fast.
That dagger can’t hurt me.
I forged it.
It’s mine.
I know.
- No!
- No!
[groaning in pain]
[dramatic music]
No, no, no, no.
I let him die.
I let him die.
Charlie, no!
Tarot cards can have
surprising meanings, remember?
Get away! Get out!
[thunder rumbles]
[screaming]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
What a stormy night.
[music]
Saw you eyeing me
from across the room.
Oh, yes.
I am the actor, Chauncey Cooper.
How I love you, Philip.
And I you, Vera.
The tarot readings are
about to begin.
Won’t that be fun?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Wake up.
Wake up!
Oh thank God.
Warn me before you stab yourself
next time, okay?
You’re all right.
Hey, you’re here, too.
- Are we still inside the deck?
- [Connor] I knew it.
The Death card in tarot
doesn’t mean literal death.
It means change, transformation,
or--
Renewal.
And as Madam Visconti said,
ever so slyly,
the key to the manor was
the end of my story.
The key was sacrifice.
A real person needed to die
within the deck
for Death to be allowed inside.
And once inside,
Death was able
to reset the evening,
trapping the Devil once more
inside her prison.
So, how’d you know
it would work?
I didn’t.
So, you just stabbed yourself
without knowing
what would happen?
I had an overwhelming sensation
that everything would be
all right.
It always is.
When we’re together.
[soft music]
I think you’re right, sir.
[soft music]
[soft music]
Oh.
The Wheel of Fortune.
Is this you?
[soft music]
[soft music]
This belongs in the Library.
[pensive music]
What?
[pensive music]
All I’m saying is,
if you didn’t care about us,
you wouldn’t have come
to save us.
Did it occur to you that I was
rescuing the dagger and not you?
Sure.
Keep telling yourself that.
I am
I do
Please accept my
If it had not been for my rash
and destructive actions,
then the devil
wouldn’t have been able
to alert it to our
It’s okay, Vik.
Maybe next time, just
listen to us?
We’re here to help.
[soft music]
Thank you for letting me
do this part.
[soft music]
[soft music]
[soft music]
[Vikram] The time is now
when it comes to apologizing.
And, um
I am the one who
That is to say, um
Please accept my
Hey, I appreciate
how hard it is to apologize.
- It’s fine.
- It is?
Yeah. Uh
We’re a team.
Sometimes we fight.
It happens.
Besides, we did watch you
stab yourself, so
It’d be rude to hold a grudge.
Anyway, I wanted
to show you something.
You said that Madam Visconti
felt familiar.
Well,
this is the Book of Librarians.
[Vikram] She was a Librarian.
"Back during the Sforza reign,
"as part of the deck’s
enchantment,
"she agreed to stay within,
and watch over the Devil."
She’s gonna be trapped there
forever.
She’s where she belongs.
Look.
[soft music]
You all are too.
[soft music]
[soft music]
[soft music]
[music]
[music]
[music]
[music]
[explosion]
Oh God, I told you I could
have Macguyvered a controlled
explosive designed
for minimal damage
so that we didn’t have
to blow up
the entire rock formation.
It would take too long.
You obliterated an ancient site
that could have illuminated
so much about the geology
of the region.
And sir, you did almost blow
your own face off
in the process.
As Connor informed me,
chickens dig scars.
Chicks dig scars.
Why would chickens
You know what? Never mind.
What is this thing anyway?
Ah, that is
the Dagger of Seraphim.
No ordinary poniard.
It was fashioned from the ashes
of a fallen star
and can kill what does not live.
According to legend,
it was forged
by the Devil himself.
Kill what does not live?
Like a virus? That could
revolutionize health care?
Uh, I’m more concerned
about the Devil part.
Well, the devil, they say,
is in the detail.
But why now,
after all these years,
has the Dagger of Seraphim
decided to reveal itself?
Ah, Connor,
relinquish the blade.
It needs
to be handled properly by--
No. You know what?
We are a team.
But you still don’t trust us.
And the truth is, you need us.
What I need from you, Connor, is
to hand over that blade
before you poke your eye out.
Think fast.
I always think fast.
No, it means
it means catch.
[music]
If you’re going to be such
a rumbumptious bellyacher
about the whole thing, here.
Take the dagger.
You may be the one to escort it
back to the Library.
Wow, thanks.
It must have been really hard
for you.
[music]
[electrical zapping]
[theme music]
[music]
Um, this isn’t the Annex.
What is this place?
[dramatic music]
Where’s Vikram?
Okay. Come on through.
Let’s not dilly-dally.
[dramatic music]
Where are you?
We need to complete this mission
and get this dagger back
where it belongs.
[dramatic music]
Oh [chuckles].
Very good.
The leg-pull is on me.
Point made.
Showing me
just how much I need you.
Well then, two, or rather four,
can play at that game.
[dramatic music]
Mm.
Finally.
Some peace and quiet.
Far more suitable to my nature.
No
needful trainees
clucking at my heels.
Right, enough is enough.
Connor, Lysa, Charlie,
end this japery at once!
[suspenseful music]
[static, zapping, beeping]
There has got to be a reason
why the Door glitched.
Maybe it short-circuited.
Uh, power fluctuations are
the most common cause
of voltage issues.
Lysa, there’s nothing scientific
about the magic door.
Alright, it’s right
there in the name.
Magic. Door.
Doesn’t get things wrong.
I bet this is a test.
I think Vikram set this up
to prove that we can’t complete
a mission
- without him.
- [Lysa] Okay.
Intellectual challenge?
I could get on board with that.
That’s the spirit.
If this is a test, you really
should have run it by me.
Guys, I have
a really bad feeling about this.
No. This’ll be fun.
Come on, let’s go look
for clues.
[people chattering]
[thunder rumbles]
[chatter continues]
[music]
[thunder rumbling]
My, my.
What a stormy night.
The phone lines are down,
and the roads are blocked off
for miles.
[indistinct chatter]
[music]
Saw you eyeing me
from across the room.
Ah, yes.
I am the actor Chauncey Cooper.
Would you like my autograph?
How I love you, Philip.
And I you, Vera.
This place is weird.
Yeah.
[music]
Connor Green.
Yvette Laszlo.
Well, I’m a singer by night.
And by day?
Wouldn’t you like to know?
So, uh, you come here often?
First time.
Although
it feels oddly familiar.
[bell ringing]
Welcome all.
Madam Visconti will begin
her world-renowned
tarot reading shortly.
Tarot reading?
What is going on?
We really need to get
that dagger
back to the Library
for safekeeping.
Well, it is nice and safe
in here.
Cheese puffs?
The Bollingsworth Affair ?
Really?
It is a very,
very good detective series.
What?
You thought
that you would be able
to squeeze in some light reading
in between our famously
relaxing missions?
Maybe.
We might be stuck here a while.
- Hello, sir.
- Hello.
I am Mysterious Mortadello.
Right.
I don’t suppose a man
with a devil-may-care attitude
- has left a message for us?
- Uh, no.
But I have two wands for you.
Or should I say, he does.
No need for tip.
No.
I’ve got that covered.
That is so cool.
How do they do that?
Seriously, Con,
we work with a time-traveling
relic hunter
whose office is
a sentient library,
and that impressed you?
[frustrated wail]
We’ve been waiting for so long!
I’m bored! I hate it here!
Ladies.
That right there is
Princess Lucille.
You see, her parents owned
the place,
so she’s quite used to getting
her own way,
if you know what I mean.
Shame. Real shame
what happened to them.
That there is Sister Annabelle.
The nun. Her new nanny.
Nunny! [laughs]
Sounds like a great film.
The Nunny.
[bell ringing]
Madam Visconti
is ready for you.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
It appears this globe is
the key to this thing.
Door.
Charlie is not here
to activate you,
so it is time to listen to me.
Hm?
Activate.
At once.
[dramatic music]
Listen.
I must retrieve the Dagger
of Seraphim.
It is too dangerous to be
out there in the open.
And yes, I admit it.
I am growing worried
about Lysa, Connor and Charley.
They could be in danger.
Do you hear me?
This damnable new technology!
We didn’t have magic doors
in my day, no.
We had something called horses.
[dramatic music]
Steward of the telephone?
Call Connor.
[Cellphone Voice]
Calling Connor.
Thank you.
How can a voicemail be full?
Must you empty it like
a chamber pot?
Oh. Ugh!
[suspenseful music]
Mr. Cooper,
if you wouldn’t mind
switching seats, please.
Thank you.
[thunder rumbles]
[screams]
Hey, hey, don’t worry.
Thunder is scary.
It’s kind of like the sky
is having a tantrum.
You wouldn’t know anything
about tantrums now, would you?
[bell rings]
[suspenseful music]
Whoa, that looks
like the Sforza tarot deck.
We are here to delve
into our past,
present,
and future.
The Fool.
Magician.
The High Priestess.
[thunder crashing]
[frightened chatter]
[woman screams]
Get her out of here.
Vera! Vera!
A knife wound.
About an inch wide,
with another smaller
incision here.
This was made by a lightning
bolt-shaped dagger.
That’s impossible.
I have the dagger, right
[dramatic music]
Uh-oh.
[suspenseful music]
[Lysa] We have been here
half an hour
and you have already lost
the artifact?
How did anyone know
I had it on me?
Well, I don’t know.
Maybe the fortune teller looked
into your mind and heard dagger,
- dagger, cheese puffs, dagger.
- Um, I’ll have you know--
Guys, that artifact is
our responsibility.
- If we don’t get it back--
- We’re gonna get it back.
- We’re not gonna fail the test.
- We need to find Vikram.
No, we don’t need to find Vik.
We can find
the dagger ourselves.
- Come on.
- Yeah, come on.
[dramatic music]
Quiet!
There’s been a murder here,
and we need to find the weapon,
and until we do so,
no one is safe.
We’ll question all of you,
and get to the bottom of this.
Until then, no one is
to leave this house, understood?
- And who are you exactly?
- Yeah.
Why, this
is
Chief Inspector Poppy
Bollingsworth of Scotland Yard.
The murder of her parents
when she was just a child
drove her into a career
of solving crime.
An obsession
she swears isn’t personal,
but has completely taken over
every aspect of her life.
- Well, it sounds good to me.
- Yeah.
[dramatic music]
Do I look like a Poppy to you?
Where did that come from?
The Bollingsworth Affair !
You guys gotta read it.
If we want that dagger back,
we need to solve a murder.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
No, the globe is not
in another dimension.
It is not in liquid form.
It has not been possessed.
I just don’t know
how to work it.
An appendix this mystery
shall solve.
Ha.
"If you cannot open the door,
"please use the backup door.
"If you do not have
the backup door,
please retrieve
the backup door."
What do you mean?!
If my charges are maimed,
injured,
or hurt in any way,
I blame you.
I have to ask you
some questions.
A real magician never reveals
his secrets.
It’s not about the card trick.
Oh, you need an alibi.
How about I interest you
in something
completely different?
That is so cool.
It’s mine.
So you’re just not gonna answer
my question?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
You’ve taken a vow of silence.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
And a vow not to kill anyone.
Very convenient.
[dramatic music]
Miss Laszlo,
you don’t seem too upset
by the events of today.
When you’ve been
in show business
as long as I have, darling,
nothing surprises you.
[Lysa] Does that mean
you’re saying
that this murder was
professionally motivated?
He was an actor.
A cutthroat profession,
and they do mean that.
Literally.
[thunder rumbles]
You want one?
[Connor]
Earlier, before the reading,
Chauncey Cooper, the actor,
whispered something to you.
I think you’re mistaken, sir.
He leaned over,
whispered in your ear,
and you smiled.
What did he say?
Philip,
it’s not
It wasn’t It was nothing.
- It was nothing.
- It doesn’t sound like nothing.
And what of your mistakes?
I’ve owned up to my mistakes.
Have you?
After you lost all of our money
to that slimy Carmelito,
you swore
your gambling days were over.
Well, excuse me
if I needed a way
to get my mind off things
while my own bride
has been cavorting
behind my back with an actor!
[quietly] Wow.
I am really good at this.
[Charlie] So did you know
Chauncey Cooper?
See any of his movies?
Oh, I don’t really have
much opportunity
to go to the movies.
I imagine taking care
of a princess eats up
a lot of your time.
It must be even harder
in a situation like this.
She’s a fighter.
Well, I hope you’re not
a fighter.
How’s that?
My uncle.
He was very religious.
And when me and my siblings
were acting up,
he would remind my parents,
"Do not embitter your children,
or they will become
discouraged."
Ephesians 3:21.
Of course, one of my favorites.
Although it is
sometimes difficult
for Lucille to not be bitter.
You see, her parents
[clock chimes]
Oh.
It’s nine.
Oh, I’m sorry, Inspector
Bollingsworth,
but I must go.
Lucille will be wondering
where am I.
Please, you know
where to find me
if you need anything.
[dramatic music]
And why did you make him
switch seats?
- I beg your pardon?
- [Lysa] At the reading.
The actor, you made him
switch seats.
He was sitting next to Vera.
I’m sorry, madam.
I don’t recall.
I make many adjustments
to the plans,
menus, any number of things,
and I cater to the whims
of many guests.
It’s so hard to keep track.
So, would you like some tea?
Or perhaps this night requires
something stronger?
Uh, tea, please.
[suspenseful music]
What would you do, Vikram?
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
Damn you, Door!
Connor, Lysa, and Charlie are
on the other side of you.
They need my assistance.
I can sense it.
[chain jingling]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
Tremendously easy.
Now, take me to my cohort.
[dramatic music]
So, uh, did she ask about me?
- Who?
- Yvette, the lounge singer.
She has a thing for me.
No, she does not.
- Who made you that tea?
- The butler.
- Don’t drink it.
- But why?
Didn’t you say he was evasive?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, that tea is so poisoned.
None of my suspects would ever
try to poison me.
Connor, this isn’t
a competition.
Or a Librarian test.
[Conner] Uh, it is.
And here’s what I learned.
Vera was having an affair
with Chauncey, the actor.
And Philip just lost
all their money to Carmelito,
- the mobster guy.
- Who?
Pinstripe, mustache.
Have you noticed everyone here
is almost
Two-dimensional?
Not quite real?
Yeah.
And they’re
all hiding something.
I quoted a Bible verse
to Sister Annabelle
and said it was from Ephesians.
She didn’t bat an eye.
But the verse wasn’t
from Ephesians,
it was from Colossians.
A nun should know that.
How doNever mind.
Guys, they’re all working
for Vikram.
This is all planned, man.
No, I think it’s weirder
than that.
I think someone knew
that we had the dagger.
I don’t think
it was a coincidence
that the door sent us here
right after we retrieved it.
I know that you said
the door can’t glitch.
But could it be hacked?
I suppose someone could hack it.
Divert it.
But there would have to be
a very powerful magician.
[gasps]
There is a magician
in the house.
Huh?
Fine.
But we have to start acting
like a team
if we wanna get out of here.
Vikram or no Vikram.
So, let’s split up,
and look for the magician.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Any sign of the magician?
Nothing.
Just check
the entire ground floor.
I’ve asked around
and no one’s seen him.
Okay, okay.
What would Vikram do?
Ignore us and go off on his own.
Yeah.
[woman screams]
[dramatic music]
[Connor] Sorry, sorry.
[Charlie] Hey.
[Connor] The magician?
[dramatic music]
He’s dead.
[dramatic sting]
We’re all gonna be dead
by the morning.
Not if I can help it.
There’s still a killer
on the loose.
The safest thing for you all
to do is
to return to your rooms
and lock the doors. Go.
You heard her. Come on.
You too.
[dramatic music]
The Dagger of Seraphim
strikes again.
Why in a mansion full
of knives and weapons would
the murderer need
the Dagger of Seraphim?
Vikram said it kills
what doesn’t live.
Well, clearly it also kills
things that do live.
Okay. Let’s search the room.
Maybe the murderer stashed it
somewhere
so it’s not gonna be
on his person.
Really gonna look
in every single book?
If I had a study like this,
at least half the books would
have secret little compartments.
You and Vikram really are
two peas in a pod, aren’t you?
He must have knocked that over
as he was dying.
Smashed on the ground
and expelled dirt over here,
and it stops there.
She’s got her math face on.
But the arc-shaped dispersal
of the dirt indicates a door
that swept away the mess.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
A secret passageway?
We need to
Sorry.
We need to get one
of these in the Annex.
[suspenseful music]
You’ve got terrible priorities,
Connor.
[suspenseful music]
That’s
from the Dagger of Seraphim.
The entire hilt had jewels
just like it.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
This is the tower room.
Wait.
This is the same corner
where Sister Annabelle took
Princess Lucille
to comfort her
after the Actor’s death.
The nun could have stashed
a dagger here,
and retrieved it
after we interviewed her.
Plus, she was pretty rusty
on her scriptures.
Anyone else think we should sit
the nunny down
for a few more questions?
Come on.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
I found you!
You.
You look familiar.
Who are you?
And where are my f
colleagues?
Two women and a man.
I do not wish to play cards.
You must know where they are.
Oh.
Well, in that case,
I shall tear this house asunder
in search of my coterie, hmm?
I see a wise man.
A man of books.
[suspenseful music]
A man not of this world.
A man out of time.
[suspenseful music]
You must speak
through the cards.
[suspenseful music]
I would like a reading.
Sister Annabelle’s not
in her room.
Then where could she be?
[suspenseful music]
[Lucille screams]
I’m sorry I was out of my room.
I was looking
for Sister Annabelle.
I don’t want her to be angry
with me.
Are you okay?
Do you think
this was targeted at us?
Or her?
When you were
with Sister Annabelle,
did you see
a lightning bolt-shaped dagger
with a weird-shaped handle?
[suspenseful music]
This isn’t a game anymore.
My job is to protect you,
and I say we’re leaving.
- Dagger or no dagger.
- We can’t leave.
These people are in danger,
and it’s our fault.
We brought the dagger here. I
I lost it.
And if we leave and give up now,
- it’ll prove that--
- Prove what?
That Vik doesn’t need us.
[suspenseful music]
[struggling to open door]
It’s locked.
Go, go.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
What is happening?
What the hell is that?
[Madam Visconti] It is Death.
[suspenseful music]
And you cannot leave.
Why is Death here?
We need to figure out
how to get out of here.
More importantly,
where here even is.
There is one person
who seems to know
what’s going on.
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
[suspenseful music]
What is this place?
I am but a servant to the cards.
This isn’t getting us anywhere.
We’d like a reading, please.
[suspenseful music]
No cage can contain it.
No shackles can constrain it.
None on this earth, anyway.
Centuries ago,
they constructed this place
to confine it.
Disguised in plain sight.
[dramatic music]
Yes.
I knew this place
looked familiar.
I have seen drawings
and journals.
Centuries ago,
the Sforza family created
a prison for the Devil,
guarded by three keepers.
The location of the prison
has always remained a mystery.
This is the old Sforza Manor?
And it’s a prison to the Devil?
Whoa, how did you get there?
But this is the Sforza deck.
It’s the oldest surviving
tower deck in the world.
The Eight of Swords represents
being bound and helpless,
imprisonment.
The Justice card stands
for fairness and law.
And combined with
the Eight of Swords
Consequences
And the Devil card is
Just the Devil.
Wait.
They trapped the actual Devil
in here?
The Devil is like time.
Fluid, multidimensional.
Hard to pin down as
he is everywhere and nowhere.
- Do you understand?
- No.
I extremely do not understand.
In the 15th century,
the Sforzas were somehow able
to create a magical prison
for an aspect of the Devil.
No one is quite sure how,
but the enchantment involved
three keepers
to lock the Devil,
or part of it, inside.
The Keeper’s Three.
The Trinity.
The bulwark between it and thee.
[dramatic music]
I think this is
why people are being murdered.
Look.
You don’t think?
Yeah, I do.
I think the Devil is killing
his keepers.
First the Fool,
then the Magician.
So if the High Priestess
is eliminated,
the Devil can escape.
How do I get in?
It’s not how you get in
that should concern you.
It’s how to get back out.
[suspenseful music]
The door is locked.
And the key is the end
of your story.
[suspenseful music]
That thing outside is Death?
Well, that’s not good.
A thing is not good or bad.
A thing is a thing.
How you react to it is
up to you.
Yeah, but it’s Death.
Literal death.
No.
Actually, I don’t think
it is literal death.
What do you mean?
Okay, so we have Death.
We had a Magician.
The Fool was the actor.
Guys, we’re inside
the Sforza deck.
[suspenseful music]
Okay, okay, so there are
22 major arcana cards
in the standard deck.
Face cards.
The Fool, the Empress,
the Hierophant, etc.
Okay, so What?
There are, uh
22 people inside the house,
and Death is outside.
That’s too many people.
The Lovers count as one.
Philip and Vera, the newlyweds.
And Yvette is the Star.
And the silent friar
is the Hermit.
Okay, if all that is true,
then what does it mean?
It means tarot cards can
have multiple interpretations.
And it means that we need
to figure out who the Devil is.
And the High Priestess.
So we can protect her.
Well, the High Priestess is
usually depicted wearing
a crown or a diadem--
Princess Lucille.
You said that Sister Annabelle
didn’t know her scripture.
She’s acting more
and more suspicious.
We really need to find that nun
and hold her feet to the fire.
My three friends are trapped
in the Devil’s prison,
and they need my help.
Yes, but it won’t be easy.
Oh, it never is.
If the Librarian enters
the prison,
Death will come for him.
It’s never stopped me before.
[dramatic music]
Pendulum, take me to my friends.
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
I can’t find them anywhere.
- Nothing.
- Same.
[Lucille screams]
God, if I don’t hear
another far-off scream
for the rest of my life,
it’ll be too soon.
[Lucille] Help! Help me!
Get away from her.
No, no, no,
I was just trying to
Just trying to kill
your last keeper?
[metallic sound, stab]
[Annabelle gasps]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Oh, my God.
We were wrong.
Sister Annabelle’s
the final keeper.
She’s the High Priestess,
which means
Princess Lucille is
Devilishly adorable?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
You only pretended to be afraid
of the storm earlier.
And when you comforted me,
it was all too easy
to steal the dagger
from your bag.
See where being kind
to children gets you?
But why?
Why that dagger?
- Why do you need us?
- [Connor] Wait.
The dagger kills
what doesn’t live.
Your keepers were tarot cards,
they weren’t actually alive.
I’ve waited for centuries
for a librarian
to find that dagger.
And when they hid it
away long ago,
I set up a number of traps
that will alert me
to its discovery.
Your merry band set off
every single one of them.
What did you do?
Blow up the entire cave?
Damn it, Vikram.
Wait, you know
about the Librarian?
Oh, yes.
I’ve had unfortunate dealings
with librarians.
They can be quite useful,
if need be.
With the dagger uncovered,
I could feel
my powers returning.
And I was able to reroute
your little Magic Door
just in time for you to walk
right into my prison.
So, what now?
The Sforza family kept me
trapped here
in the 15th century using
an ancient curse.
They commissioned
a tarot card deck
that would keep me locked away,
guarded by three keepers.
So the Sforza shut you away
in plain sight.
And I assume part of
the enchantment would enable it
to manifest itself in a way
that we would understand.
[Lucille] Yes.
Otherwise, your feeble minds
would not be able
to comprehend the reality
in here.
You would go mad.
I believe for the Sforza,
it was an Italian Court.
But for you, it seems to be--
A cozy Agatha Christie
murder house?
I don’t care for it.
Now all that’s left is one
more part of my plan.
And you are going to provide me
my escape out of this prison.
No, we’ll never let you escape.
[dramatic music]
[Connor] Vikram?
Oh, thank God.
Right on time.
[Connor] Vik, she’s the devil.
We’re trapped in a tarot deck.
Death is outside,
and we don’t have the key.
And we can’t just leave.
Otherwise, she would just
reroute the Magic Door,
and all of her keepers are dead,
and she’s basically free.
Hmm. You’ve certainly been busy.
Well, idle hands are
my workshop.
It seems that if you’ve killed
your three keepers,
then you are free
to leave this prison.
Hmm. That’s only fair.
You’ve worked ever so hard.
You tracked us down,
rerouted our Magic Door,
trapped my three friends.
And you have opened
a door for me
to walk out of this prison,
just like I knew you would.
Oh, please.
The door is yours.
Vikram, you can’t!
Do you really think
you could stop me,
the Devil?
Of course.
No one would be foolish enough
to try to stop you.
[suspenseful music]
This is a trick.
No librarian would just
let me walk out of here.
Well, I suppose you’ll have
to walk through to find out.
But that’s how I got in here
the first time.
Librarian’s deceit.
Today, I have had to retrieve
a long-lost artifact
from a booby-trapped cave,
tear apart my annex looking
for a way
to summon this Magic Door
without my team,
analyze a tarot reading
from an enigmatic
fortune teller,
and then travel
through dimensions
to arrive here.
It’s been a very long day.
So, if you’ll just be going.
I’ll figure out your plan,
Librarian.
Hmm. Well, then.
You had better think fast.
That dagger can’t hurt me.
I forged it.
It’s mine.
I know.
- No!
- No!
[groaning in pain]
[dramatic music]
No, no, no, no.
I let him die.
I let him die.
Charlie, no!
Tarot cards can have
surprising meanings, remember?
Get away! Get out!
[thunder rumbles]
[screaming]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
What a stormy night.
[music]
Saw you eyeing me
from across the room.
Oh, yes.
I am the actor, Chauncey Cooper.
How I love you, Philip.
And I you, Vera.
The tarot readings are
about to begin.
Won’t that be fun?
[dramatic music]
[dramatic music]
Wake up.
Wake up!
Oh thank God.
Warn me before you stab yourself
next time, okay?
You’re all right.
Hey, you’re here, too.
- Are we still inside the deck?
- [Connor] I knew it.
The Death card in tarot
doesn’t mean literal death.
It means change, transformation,
or--
Renewal.
And as Madam Visconti said,
ever so slyly,
the key to the manor was
the end of my story.
The key was sacrifice.
A real person needed to die
within the deck
for Death to be allowed inside.
And once inside,
Death was able
to reset the evening,
trapping the Devil once more
inside her prison.
So, how’d you know
it would work?
I didn’t.
So, you just stabbed yourself
without knowing
what would happen?
I had an overwhelming sensation
that everything would be
all right.
It always is.
When we’re together.
[soft music]
I think you’re right, sir.
[soft music]
[soft music]
Oh.
The Wheel of Fortune.
Is this you?
[soft music]
[soft music]
This belongs in the Library.
[pensive music]
What?
[pensive music]
All I’m saying is,
if you didn’t care about us,
you wouldn’t have come
to save us.
Did it occur to you that I was
rescuing the dagger and not you?
Sure.
Keep telling yourself that.
I am
I do
Please accept my
If it had not been for my rash
and destructive actions,
then the devil
wouldn’t have been able
to alert it to our
It’s okay, Vik.
Maybe next time, just
listen to us?
We’re here to help.
[soft music]
Thank you for letting me
do this part.
[soft music]
[soft music]
[soft music]
[Vikram] The time is now
when it comes to apologizing.
And, um
I am the one who
That is to say, um
Please accept my
Hey, I appreciate
how hard it is to apologize.
- It’s fine.
- It is?
Yeah. Uh
We’re a team.
Sometimes we fight.
It happens.
Besides, we did watch you
stab yourself, so
It’d be rude to hold a grudge.
Anyway, I wanted
to show you something.
You said that Madam Visconti
felt familiar.
Well,
this is the Book of Librarians.
[Vikram] She was a Librarian.
"Back during the Sforza reign,
"as part of the deck’s
enchantment,
"she agreed to stay within,
and watch over the Devil."
She’s gonna be trapped there
forever.
She’s where she belongs.
Look.
[soft music]
You all are too.
