My Brother the Minotaur (2026) s01e09 Episode Script

Episode 9

1
[Walker] How's the cemetery looking?
It's secure, Chief.
But the islanders aren't gonna like it.
Visiting our ancestors at the cemetery
is a very important part
of the Midsummer Moon Festival.
The festival's still a few days away.
Let's worry about it then.
For now,
we need to focus on finding Lorcan.
Understood. It's strange though, right?
How's that, Leland?
There's clear tracks
of Lorcan entering the cemetery,
but I can't find any of him leaving.
Are you sure he's not still in there?
Impossible.
I searched every inch of that place.
Lorcan's definitely gone.
It's just that,
well, growing up on the island,
there are a lot of stories.
Folklore and such.
[chuckles] Are you saying
there are magic forces at play here?
You're right.
You're right, it's stupid. [chuckles]
No… [smacks lips] …I think it's charming.
But let's rule out reality
before we go there.
I'll see you back at the cemetery.
[Leland] Copy that.
Magic. What was I thinking? [chuckles]
-Huh?
-[gasps]
[Archie sighs] This is all our fault.
Lorcan never would've left
if we'd had just told him the truth.
It was for his own protection.
-[scoffs] A lot of good it did him.
-[Ethan] It's our fault.
George and Olivia warned us
of a dark energy
coming from The Other Side,
but we didn't want to believe it.
Who cares whose fault it is?
Lorcan's gone.
All that matters now
is how we're gonna get him back.
Charlie's right.
There must be something we can do.
Some other way to open the gateway.
I'm sorry. Lorcan has the amulet.
Without it, there is no other way. [sighs]
So that's it?
Olivia and your mother are keeping vigil
by the gateway door.
We can only hope
Lorcan finds his own way back
to Bryony Island.
That's the plan? Wait and hope?
Not me. I'm not giving up.
Charlie!
You know I'll never give up on Lorcan.
[gasps]
Uh.
[gasps, grunts]
[straining, grunting]
[screams]
[grunting]
[coughing, gasping]
[coughing]
[sighs]
[grunting]
[sighs, grunts]
This is an outrage.
Wesley, get in here.
Everything okay, Dad?
Does it look like everything's okay?
No! Nothing is okay.
Not one of these rag newspapers
published my article about Lorcan.
We're just days away
from the Midsummer Moon Festival
and we haven't got a single booking
for the hotel.
Maybe they didn't believe your story.
A minotaur boy living on an island
does sound pretty far-fetched.
No story means no tourists.
I'm ruined. [sighs] Again.
I found it.
Finally, a publication with the integrity
and the guts to print the truth.
"Inbelievable Monthly."
"Bigfoot seen roller-skating on Broadway."
Wait a moment.
Is this one of those magazines
for total screwballs?
[phone rings]
Bryony Island Hotel.
-[caller, indistinct]
-Yes.
-[caller, indistinct]
-Oh.
It's a screwball.
[phones ringing]
[chuckles] Lots and lots of screwballs!
[no audio]
[gasps] You're kidding.
[sighs]
It has to be here.
No, no. No, no, no. It has to be here.
[yawns]
[grunts]
[sighs]
[yawns]
[snores]
-[Lorcan, distorted] Charlie.
-Wh-- What?
Lorcan?
[Lorcan, distorted] Help me, Charlie.
Whoa.
Wow.
[grunts]
[gasps]
[pants]
[gasps, panting]
[sighs]
[knocking]
[sighs] Don't do that.
Sorry we scared you.
-But this couldn't wait.
-It'll have to.
You need to hear this.
Why do we never do my thing first?
I think Lorcan contacted me in a dream.
He can do that?
Is he all right? What did he say?
That he needs us.
And there's something else.
I know why
the symbols on the door in Lorcan's dream
never matched the ones in the labyrinth.
There's a second door!
Yeah, we know.
You do?
And we know where it is.
How?
There was something about
the first line of that ancient verse
that kept bugging me.
"A pathway seen through Ptolemy's eyes,
between two bears a dragon lies."
And then it hit me.
The dragon and the bears,
they're constellations.
The dragon, Draco, between two bears,
Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.
When I saw it, it looked really familiar.
Like a map of Bryony Island.
And, in a way, it is.
-[Harper] Oops.
-[grunts, sighs]
Anyway, when I put Dana's map of the stars
on a map of the island…
[Charlie] It's a perfect fit.
[Dana] The Great Bear pinpoints
the cemetery gateway.
And the Dragon marks the tunnel
to the map room under the ruins.
[Harper] Which only leaves The Little Bear
who's sitting right on top of the cliffs.
So, the second door's in the cliffs!
[both] Exactly.
Only one problem remains.
A second door means a second amulet.
Lorcan found an amulet for the Great Bear,
now we need to find one
for the Little Bear.
It has to be in the map room.
It's the only other point on the map.
Makes sense.
But the other amulet
wasn't in the map room, was it?
It was in Lorcan's doll.
Yes, but the amulets have been
on the island for a thousand years.
That doll arrived with Lorcan.
Which means…
The amulet was only put in the doll
So, maybe Charlie's right.
Maybe whoever put the amulet
in the doll took it from the map room.
[Charlie] Where we found a broken statue
of a big bear.
And now we're looking
for the Little Bear amulet.
[Craignelder] Here on the island,
we celebrate The Midsummer Moon Festival
every year on this, the longest of days.
What better place
to start our magical journey
through the mysterious history
of Bryony Island,
than here, amongst the Old Ruins.
Whatever! Where's the minotaur?
All in good time.
Are you sure you should be giving
an historical tour of the island?
I mean, don't you need
to know the history first?
Nonsense.
It's simply a matter of telling them
what they want to hear.
Stay close, friends.
For it was here, amongst these ruins,
the fiercest of battles raged
between the humans and minotaurs.
The islanders believe this site
to be haunted, many of them claiming
to have heard the terrified screams
of their ancestors' ghosts!
[gasps]
[gasps] Oh, dear, am I scaring you?
Well, I did warn you,
this tour is not for the faint of heart.
[screams]
[tourists laughing]
Are those tourists?
I don't--
I don't like to play the blame game,
but if you had stopped that reporter
from writing his article,
they wouldn't be here.
You think I don't know it was you
who wrote that article?
Me? I am insulted, I am hurt and I am…
pretty sure you can't prove anything.
This isn't over.
Thanks, Chief! And a happy
Midsummer Moon Festival to you too!
Shall we?
Come along now. Do keep up.
[George] I know you're not in the mood
for the festival,
none of us are, but you should go.
It'll do Charlie good.
Dad's right.
We have to believe
that Lorcan's coming back.
And we need Charlie to see that.
How? He won't come down.
He's barely left his room in days.
[inhales sharply]
You go ahead, I'll talk to Charlie.
-[laughing]
-[vendor] Warm cakes!
Warm cakes here!
[sirens blaring]
[festivalgoer 1]
Look at them… [indistinct]
[festivalgoer 2] Doesn't it look great?
Hello?
Where's Charlie?
He's gone.
Why didn't you tell us
there was a second door?
I told you only what you needed to know.
[sighs] It was safer that way.
The second door was solely
to be used as a last resort.
End-of-the-world kind of stuff.
You let us believe
there was no other way to get to Lorcan.
We've wasted days.
Days I spent looking
for that second amulet.
You don't know where the other amulet is?
I do now. Charlie has it.
[squawks]
Ease off starboard!
Excuse me?
A little more to left.
Is there a reason I'm the only one rowing?
-Umbrella.
-Shoulder.
Old scouting injury.
[sighs] I don't like to talk about it.
Guess that's why
you've never mentioned it before.
Look! The cliffs!
Whoa.
Hard to port!
Just say left!
Another hot chocolate, dear?
[gasps]
[gasps]
Lorcan!
-Are you all right?
-I'm fine.
But Arianys is hurt.
-[breathing shakily]
-You have to help her.
[sighs] She's exhausted.
Is she gonna be okay?
-Let's have a look, shall we?
-[groaning]
-[grunts]
-[groaning]
[sighs] Where's Charlie?
[sighs] Same place he always is
when there's some muscle needed.
Somewhere else.
Hey! Over here!
[gasps] A hidden stairway.
Looks like we're on the right track.
Come on!
[sirens blaring]
I hope the kids don't get caught
in that storm.
If it stops them reaching the cliffs,
it may just save their lives.
Hey, I-- I can't see. Hey!
You two forgot to pack your manners?
Oh, boy.
You think this is the place?
Does that answer your question?
[chuckles] After you.
Great. Now you find your manners.
[Lorcan] It was a trap.
There were minotaur soldiers
waiting for me on The Other Side.
They took me prisoner
and said they were bringing me
to the Minotaur Keep.
To your father?
No. He was lost in battle.
Lorcan, I'm so sorry.
It's not like I ever knew him.
And they say he was a monster.
[Lorcan] We never made it to the Keep.
A fairy scout spotted us
and sent word to Arianys,
my minotaur mother.
She led a band of warriors to rescue me.
[screams, grunting]
[coughs]
[groans]
[Lorcan] Before I knew what was happening,
I was free.
[grunting]
Arianys was wounded as we escaped
and we lost the others in the chaos.
This is your mother?
She will be okay, won't she?
She's been through the wars all right.
But I think she'll be fine.
Thank you.
Somebody wanted you imprisoned
in the Minotaur Keep.
-If it wasn't your father, then who?
-I don't know.
I'm just glad they're on the other side
of that gateway.
[bubbling]
Can you hear that?
What do you think it is?
Sounds like the electric soup kettle
at the diner.
Thank you, Charlie. Very helpful.
-I'm just saying.
-[shushes] Look.
This is it. The door from my dream.
The door from Lorcan's dreams!
-The second gateway.
-So, let's go find our boy.
Lorcan!
[gasps] You're not Lorcan.
[snarls]
