Murderbot (2025) s01e10 Episode Script

The Perimeter

[beeping]
[Murderbot] Something has happened.
Something.
Something has happened.
Where am I?
Where am I?
[technician] Whoa. Sleeping Beauty's up.
[Murderbot] Where am I?
This is heaven. Congratulations.
You made it.
Dr. Mensah? Are you here?
Where is Dr. Mensah? Pin-Lee? Arada?
- Who?
- My clients. Where are my clients?
Don't worry about it.
Do I know you?
Yeah. I'm your dad.
I fucked a garbage disposal unit
and you came out.
Okay. Complete the memory wipe.
- A what?
- [engineer] Let's go.
Wait. What are you
[Murderbot] Wait. I I remember.
My clients. Humans.
Who are Do I know them?
[board member 1] Welcome back.
Thanks for your patience.
Where is it?
Where is SecUnit?
[stutters] I'm sorry. You're
You're asking for the physical location
of a particular piece of equipment?
We're referring to the SecUnit
assigned to our expedition.
Uh, the one that saved our lives.
Yeah. Because it's not just
a piece of equipment. It's not a tent.
Well, it's filed according
to the same protocols as a tent.
- Do you believe this?
- [Gurathin] Yes.
Frankly, its location is none
of your business.
Well, we're gonna make it our business.
The fact that you provided materials
and transportation to a team
that slaughtered the DeltFall team and
tried to kill us has been kept very quiet.
So far.
Well, there's an NDA clause in every
liability agreement, including yours.
Which won't hold up
under these extraordinary circumstances.
The risks you incurred were agreed to
in contract and are
The Company does not admit
to any wrongdoing
connected to the incident
on Planetary body 898/8712,
or any previous knowledge
of any person or persons
other than those authorized
by the Company to be on planet.
Okay. Good. So, you're the fucker
we actually have to deal with.
Yeah. I'm that fucker.
[technician] Okay. Done.
Did it really get its clients killed?
I have no idea.
All I have is orders from corporate.
Must've fucked up somehow.
Who cares? It's all gone now anyway.
Okay, I need you to install
a new governor module.
- What?
- What?
[scoffs] It-It doesn't have
a functioning governor module?
No. It says here no.
What the fuck? Why didn't you tell me?
Relax. It's out of it.
Helpless as a baby.
Aren't you?
[spits]
Let's go. Governor module.
[technician] New governor module is in.
Booting up.
[engineer] SecUnit, report.
Hello. This Security Unit is now online.
Awaiting command.
[engineer] Get off the table.
Rub your stomach and pat your head.
Now stop.
See? All good. Harmless as a baby.
A really strong baby
with guns in its arms.
Act like a baby.
Like [imitating baby crying]
Do it.
[imitating baby crying]
What the fuck is going on here?
Stop. Stop. Stop that.
Is this my Security Unit?
Yes. It's, uh, all ready to go.
[Company rep] Well, get it helmeted up.
[technician] What's it going to be doing?
Security.
[theme music playing]
Where is our SecUnit?
It's not your SecUnit. It is our SecUnit.
Madam President.
You will address me as Madam President.
At the very least, the SecUnit
in question is a material witness.
Madam President, it's not a witness.
At most, it's a, uh, recording device.
All the more reason
to share information about it.
You say it's a recording device.
Fine. We need access to evidence.
We'll buy it.
We'll buy the SecUnit.
It's not a possession.
It is here.
It's expensive.
So is the massive lawsuit we're
about to bring against your company.
Okay. So you're saying that you will drop
any claims to a lawsuit
in exchange for the SecUnit?
No. I'm saying that we will be taking
our SecUnit and half your company.
[chuckles]
We can't offer you that unit. But we can
offer you another. A better quality one.
We don't want a better quality one.
We want that one.
Well, that one was defective anyway.
Not defective. Suboptimal.
Madam President, it was discovered
that the unit in question
had a faulty governor module.
Had you noticed any abnormal behavior?
If you failed to report
any abnormal conditions,
it would be in conflict of your contract
with the Company.
Okay, look. If you're worried
about something compromising, don't be.
The governor module has been replaced
and the Unit's memory has been erased.
What?
That's right. Complete reset.
Then it's Then it's gone?
[tense music plays]
SecUnit!
SecUnit. Hey. Seccy.
I knew it. I knew we'd find you.
- Hi. Seccy.
- [officer] Halt. Hey.
You wanna get yourself arrested?
What is your problem?
I just This is my SecUnit.
Was my SecUnit.
No. This is my SecUnit, and
you're interfering with station business.
Let's go.
Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?
It's me. Tell him.
Tell him it's me.
[officer] SecUnit,
deal with this asshole.
No. Fuck. No, don't kill him.
Save that for later.
All right. Let's go.
[tense music plays]
I'm telling you,
there's no way it recognized me.
Okay. Well, it's
on the station. That's good.
I'm gonna move forward
with the injunction.
What's the point? It's It's gone.
It's It's been wiped.
[Mensah] I refuse to believe that.
I refuse to believe that the experience of
everything that we went through together
- is just a stream of zeros and ones.
- It is.
It is.
Then it's [sighs]
it's still in bondage.
It's not it anymore, Arada.
I told you we shouldn't come here, Ayda.
On the Corporation Rim,
eventually there is nothing but misery.
[crowd cheering]
Yet the fucking party goes on.
Just shut up! Shut up!
There is no way that
our SecUnit's data has been erased.
Removed, yes. Erased? No.
She's right. Well, that Unit is full
of proprietary data.
They're sifting through all of that data,
and if they find even one particle
of monetary value, then they keep that.
Then we gotta get it back.
Ratthi, a personality doesn't possess
any monetary value to them.
Whatever they do keep from it,
I wouldn't expect the SecUnit
to be the same
person.
Gura, we still have to try.
Pin-Lee should proceed
with the injunction.
Gura, you know this place.
What can we do?
Wh-What can we do?
This is the Corporation Rim.
They don't play fair.
[protesters clamoring]
Well, things have definitely escalated
as strikers and police continue to clash.
Now, these persons considered to
be in contract
beginning date of their contracts and
therefore the end of terms of service.
not a legal entity and unqualified
to decide the best course of action.
[reporter] authorities have
made themselves clear.
- No work, no food.
- I've gotta feed my kid!
[protestor] It's not fucking right!
[officer] You wanna get arrested?
Because that's what's next.
You wanna go there?
[protestors] We're not slaves!
We're not slaves! We're not slaves!
[clamoring stops]
You're in violation of your contracts.
Leave the area now!
[protestor 2] No, it's not right!
We don't have to go anywhere!
Let's go. Let's do some damage.
[protesters clamoring]
[screams]
[screams]
[grunts]
[protestor 3 screams, gasps]
Don't shoot. Don't shoot.
- [protestor 4] It's defective.
- [protestor 5] It's glitching out.
[protestor 6] What's wrong with it?
[protesters grunting, clamoring]
[protestor 7] Bring it down! Kill it!
[electronic voice] You are entering
a class six lifestyle residential area.
Authorized solicitations only.
No loitering.
Active surveillance in progress.
[suspenseful music plays]
Hi there. It's been a while.
I told you not to come to my home.
I'll meet you at the office tomorrow.
Cannot wait. I need it now.
[stammers] I'm not [inhales sharply]
I'm not even a dealer anymore.
I know. I looked you up.
Data security now. Level three access.
Business was good for you
back then though, huh?
[child] Dad, you coming?
I'm gonna be right there.
Uh, just a second, okay?
You can't be here, okay?
What are you even doing here anyway?
Like, I thought you were
Dead? Almost was. Thanks to you.
No. Not dead.
Just outside the Corporation Rim
on some bumfuck planet.
Don't blame your addiction on me.
I don't think I actually
have anything to do with
[door opens]
Dad, who's this?
This is my friend Dr. Gurathin.
Yeah. We used to work together.
We did. [stammers] Then I
became more of a customer.
Well, it's your turn to sing, Dad.
You know what? Tell Papa that he
has to sing, and I'm gonna be back in
- really, really soon, okay?
- Okay.
Let's go.
I felt bad. About what happened.
That's touching.
I thought you could handle it.
The carefully designed drugs formatted
for maximum addictiveness?
I handled it just great.
You knew what you were doing.
You certainly knew
who you were doing it for.
[sighs]
[sighs]
[beeps]
[beeps]
You won't find anything.
It's all encrypted.
Wait. I know where to look.
Search: The Rise and Fall
of Sanctuary Moon.
[beeping]
[Gurathin sighs]
Trace file to source.
There you are.
- Download all memories.
- [friend] What?
[dramatic music plays]
[friend] Gurathin, what are you doing?
Be careful.
[grunting]
How much data
are you downloading? [echoes]
- [winces]
- [friend] You might wanna take it easy.
Shut up.
[dramatic music continues]
[Mensah] Thank you
for coming on short notice.
Are the rumors true?
A whole survey team was killed,
and you yourselves attacked?
There was a team
from DeltFall Industrial Concern
who were murdered by their SecUnits.
So, rogue SecUnits
viciously assassinated clients? And
No, they had combat override modules
inserted in them,
and were under the control of
a rogue corporate entity called GrayCris.
We might also have been killed
without the excellent protection provided
by our company-issued SecUnit,
which we expect to be an integral part
in the ongoing investigation
into what happened.
Now, is it true that SexBots
can marry humans on your home planet?
No. Can we stick to the point?
Our lawyer is applying
for an injunction to produce this SecUnit
for our personal inspection.
They found it.
[ominous music plays]
[electronic voice] Caution. Acid purge.
Maintain safe distance.
Vat ready for next immersion.
Okay, go ahead.
[officer]
SecUnit, step on to the platform.
[locks clanking]
[machinery rattles]
[Company rep] All right. Melt it.
[electronic voice]
All personnel maintain safe distance.
Wait!
[Company rep]
Where do you think you're going?
- [grunts]
- [Pin-Lee] Check your feed.
I have a court injunction
against destroying this SecUnit!
Shit. Get it out of there.
Get it out, now!
SecUnit.
[stammers] You really don't recognize us?
I thought [sighs]
[sighs]
I had hoped that your organic
elements would remember us somehow.
We have been through a lot together.
We [stammers] We could tell SecUnit what
happened. And then it would know. Kind of.
Shit. It's looking me in the eye.
It might look like SecUnit, but it's not.
[door beeps, opens]
Gura
I think I'm gonna be sick.
[Mensah] Gura
[retches, groans]
Did you Please don't tell me you used?
We shouldn't have brought you here.
Mm-mmm, mm-mmm, mm-mmm.
No, it's not that. Uh [inhales
sharply] I [stammers] I didn't relapse.
I have it.
You have what?
[sighs] No.
[beeps]
[beeps]
[electronic whirring]
[wistful music plays]
[Gurathin] That's it. Unplug me.
[Mensah] SecUnit
SecUnit, are you all right?
[Ratthi] Did it work?
Do you recognize us now?
[Bharadwaj] Do you? Do you?
[sighs]
I am missing episode 420 to 568
of Sanctuary Moon.
- [Mensah sighs, laughs]
- [all laugh, cheer]
It's back!
- You're welcome, by the way.
- Oh!
Oh, Gura [inhales sharply] Gura
Thank you.
I just did it to mess with the Company.
[Murderbot] Something has happened.
- So, Arada, come!
- He's back.
- It worked? Yes.
- Yeah.
- [Murderbot] Something
- [chuckles] Hi. Here
- Something has happened.
- fresh from the printer.
I hope it fits.
I don't understand what's happening.
[sniffles] We're
purchasing your contract.
The Company wants
to avoid negative publicity.
You are coming back
to Preservation with us.
You will be a free agent there.
You mean
I'm off inventory?
Yes.
May I still have my armor?
- You won't need it.
- People won't be shooting at you.
Well, if people won't be shooting at me,
what will I be doing?
- Will Will I be your bodyguard?
- Oh, no. Um
I will be your guardian.
[inhales sharply] There are
so many opportunities for you there.
I think that you can learn to do
anything you want to do.
And you can always come hang out with me.
Come work at my lab.
- [chuckles]
- [Mensah] Mmm.
We can talk about it all
when we get you back home.
We can talk about this.
[Mensah] Yes. [laughs]
- [chuckles] That's his first one.
- Yes, we can.
Ready, ready, ready?
Check it out.
Come on.
[Murderbot] It was the armor
that told people I was a SecUnit.
- Aw, looking good, buddy.
- Oh, wow.
[chuckles]
[Murderbot] But I wasn't Sec anymore
Yes, SecUnit.
[Murderbot] just Unit.
We're so happy you're with us.
[Bharadwaj] The representatives
from DeltFall are here.
- Okay, let's meet them now.
- Yeah.
SecUnit, um, make yourself comfortable.
Uh, if there's anything you need,
let us know.
[Murderbot] I stayed in a back corner
and watched while various people came
in and out to talk.
Solicitors mostly, from the Company,
from DeltFall,
and other corporate political entities
even from GrayCris' parent company.
[team laughing]
[Murderbot] And then we celebrated.
Oh, yeah, yeah, you do.
It's the patio we go to all the time.
- That's where you were for ten hours.
- That's the one where it's
- Oh!
- Yeah. And
[Murderbot] They were opening
up their home to me.
Inviting me to be one of them.
- May I ask us all to lift our glasses?
- Mmm.
[inhales deeply] Here's to our team.
And here's to you, SecUnit. Welcome.
- To the team To the team.
- Team.
- And to SecUnit!
- SecUnit! [laughs]
- [Ratthi] Speech!
- [Arada] Come on.
- [Mensah] No, no.
- [Ratthi] I'm kidding.
Of course, I'm joking.
You don't have to say anything.
[Mensah] You can do whatever you want.
[melancholy music plays]
Where are you going?
I I'm going to
check the perimeter.
[sighs] Listen, you'll get used to it.
They are good people.
The best people I have ever met.
Preservation Alliance. [inhales deeply]
[sighs]
I mean
they're weird.
[chuckles] It took me some time
to get used to it, but once you do
You're gonna find your place there.
I'd like to help show you the ropes.
I've been thinking about it,
and I feel like I understand,
I mean to a certain degree, what maybe
Dr. Gurathin
I need to check the perimeter.
You need to check the perimeter.
Thank you.
[inhales deeply]
[door closes]
[breathes shakily] Thank you.
[melancholy music continues]
[Murderbot] It was strange.
In these clothes,
I looked like an augmented human.
No one noticed I was a SecUnit yet.
I tapped into the map systems
and made my way
down to the lower port work zones.
I checked the schedule feeds.
The next departure
was a bot-driven transport ship
heading to a distant mining facility.
I greeted it with a ping,
and let it know that I was
a happy servant bot who needed a ride.
I showed it how many hours of shows
and other media I had to share.
It turns out, cargo transport bots
also enjoy premium quality entertainment.
[hopeful music plays]
[electronic voice] Doors closing.
[hopeful music continues]
[Mensah sighs]
[sighs]
[Murderbot] I don't know what I want.
But I know I don't want anyone
to tell me what I want
or to make decisions for me.
[Mensah breathes shakily]
- Even if they are my favorite human.
- [sobs]
[hopeful music continues]
[Murderbot] Murderbot, end message.
