Sheriff Country (2025) s01e10 Episode Script

Crucible, Part 2

Previously on Sheriff Country
- I'm not sorry about this morning.
- It was a mistake.
You put my name up for a job?
What do you think about moving up here?
I'm sorry I didn't check in with you
about the hospital job.
I should've asked you first.
I got excited about the idea
of not being long-distance.
My sister Zoey disappeared 14 years ago.
She went to a party one night,
and she never came home.
You're a sheriff's deputy.
You can get answers.
- Did you close the trunk?
- Please help us.
He was with my husband Peter,
and they were at
- a farmers market.
- They say they're Barlows.
They're fanatical about their privacy.
The patriarch is Enoch.
- That's his father-in-law.
- David is Enoch's grandson?
Enoch's lost his damn mind.
Ruth, she's just as crazy.
We grow vegetables. We raise cattle.
- What about the guns?
- RUTH: We have guns,
all of which are legally obtained
and used only for defense.
We got drone problems.
Who's flying drones all the way out here?
- Feds.
- I'm here for my grandson.
Donald Kavanaugh, FBI.
Mr. Barlow, you're under arrest.
You can't do this.
ENOCH: Think you've
sown the wind, Sheriff.
Now you shall reap the whirlwind.
We just need to hold him here
for a few hours.
A dozen federal agents are en route.
(gunfire)
Get down!
CASSIDY: They shot Travis.
(gunfire continues)
(phone ringing in distance)
- WOMAN: Have a good night, Luis.
- LUIS: You, too.
- Good night, Luis.
- Good night, Deputy Campbell.
- Don't stay too late.
- Good night.
(sighs)
This morning was not a mistake.
The only mistake was me not
fighting for you five years ago.
Well, I'm ready to fight for you now.
I love you.
Always will.
Just let me know.
(door opens)
Hey, Travis.
Hey. Cassidy.
What are you doing here?
I, uh I was just helping Mickey
and Boone with a custody case.
What what are you working on?
Uh
Something I've been putting off
for too long.
(chuckles softly)
(chuckles): What?
You're happy.
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess I am.
- I'll walk you out.
- All right.
I don't want to pressure you in any way.
I just want you to know
when it comes to us, I'm all in.
I I want you to move up here, Nora.
I want to be your husband.
For real this time.
Don't say yes too fast.
Geez.
(phone clicks, beeps)
- It was really good to see you.
- Right?
This doesn't have to be weird, right?
We don't have to be weird.
No, it doesn't have to be weird.
- Bruh.
- No, don't do that.
(both chuckle)
- I'll see you around.
- Yeah.
TRAVIS: Whoa. What's going on?
- Don't move.
- Where is he?
Did you people not pay your power bill?
- What the hell?
- Drop your weapons.
He never came out.
Where did you take him?
CASSIDY: Travis, get behind me.
Look, your son isn't here, Ruth.
RUTH: Not my son. My father.
Where the hell is he?
Listen, you don't have to do this.
Travis.
- Give us Enoch!
- We can just talk.
(groans)
CASSIDY: Travis!
- Move!
- Go, go, go!
(gunfire)
Get down!
We got to move, Travis. We got to move.
(indistinct shouting in other room)
(groaning)
(alarm blaring)
(locks clunking)
- RUTH: Open fire!
- MAN: Light 'em up!
(gunfire continues)
(gunfire continues)
Boone, Cassidy, status.
BOONE: I'm in the locker room.
What the hell is going on up there?
CASSIDY: Mickey,
they're inside the building.
Mickey, they shot Travis.
(gunfire continues)
We're behind the security doors.
I'm coming to you.
CASSIDY: It's the Barlows.
Four armed with assault rifles.
One down. I think they pulled back
- through the entrance.
- There's more than four.
CASSIDY: They're on
the outside shooting in.
Get away from the windows. Heads down.
RUTH: Hold your fire.
Hold your fire.
Glass is bulletproof.
We need to find another way in.
- Travis?
- CASSIDY: He's conscious.
One bullet, in and out,
through the chest.
(indistinct shouting in distance)
MICKEY: Boone, Travis has been shot.
Get to the radio room.
He needs an ambulance.
And call for backup. It's just us here.
Locker room is clear. I'm heading up.
MICKEY: Copy that. We're moving.
(indistinct chatter)
- Got it.
- Get it on the back.
- Let's go, let's go.
- Let's move.
BOONE: Heading for the radio room.
But, Mickey, cell signals
are also being jammed.
Landline's been cut.
Where the hell are you going?
We need to secure Enoch.
There's a man bleeding out
in my entryway.
That's my number one priority.
Your number one priority
is keeping Enoch Barlow
out of the hands of domestic terrorists.
This isn't FBI headquarters.
This is my ECSO.
You either help me
or stay the hell out of my way.
- Clear!
- Pry it open!
- CASSIDY: Come on. Stay with me.
- MICKEY: Travis.
(distant, muffled banging)
(indistinct chatter)
(rattling)
MICKEY: Let me see the wound.
(groaning)
We got to stop the bleeding.
There's a med kit
in the break room. We need it.
When you arrested Enoch, you
said there were people on their way?
A dozen federal agents,
to drive him to his court date.
How long till they get here?
- Two hours.
- Two hours?
All right, we got to secure those doors.
We got to lock down the ECSO
until backup arrives.
- How many do you think got inside?
- It happened so fast. The woman ran out.
- It was Ruth Barlow.
- CASSIDY: I saw her.
She went out through the front door.
I didn't see the last guy leave.
Maybe he followed her out.
I-I don't know.
He was wearing a mask.
Boone, we think one of the Barlows
might have gotten inside.
If he did, he's gonna
go looking for Enoch.
- Get down to the holding cells now.
- BOONE: Copy that.
All right, we have to get Travis
to the war room.
Get the med kit.
You think you can walk a little bit?
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
You want to keep Barlow out of the hands
of domestic terrorists,
help me secure those doors.
We got to keep them
on the outside looking in.
- TRAVIS (groaning): Okay.
- MICKEY: Let's go.
All deputies report.
ECSO under attack.
Repeat, ECSO under attack.
Ted?
Deputy Chang, do you copy?
Deputy Chang.
Mickey, transmitters
are being blocked, too.
They're jamming
all long-range frequencies
cell, dispatch, patrol.
We-we can't reach any of 'em.
Mickey, this is not an accident.
That emergency callout
the street takeover in Dogtown
they sent half our deputies
on a wild-goose chase
outside of signal range.
We're on our own in here.
Let's protect what we do have.
Get down to the holding cells.
Copy. On my way.
I got to unbutton your shirt.
I got to take a look at the wound.
Whoa. Here? (chuckles weakly)
(muffled chatter)
Someone's in the
holding cell with Barlow.
I'm going in.
(chatter continues)
(screaming)
Buckner, what the hell
are you doing in here?
Watching him.
What did you think was gonna happen?
(Travis groaning)
TRAVIS: Uh, how's it look?
(panting)
That good, huh?
RUTH: Sheriff Fox, this is Ruth Barlow.
We have the exits covered.
Your deputies are not going to save you.
They can't even hear you.
You are outgunned, outmanned.
Send out my father, or we
are coming in to take him.
Ruth.
(Travis groans)
Ruth, stand down.
Ruth, take your people
and drive out of here.
Ruth.
CASSIDY: He needs a hospital.
Just give them Barlow.
(power saw grinding on metal
in distance)
Mickey, they're coming in. Repeat,
they're hacking through the doors.
Boone.
(grunting)
(panting)
(indistinct shouting)
Secure that door.
(pounding)
Yeah.
(pounding continues)
MAN: Hurry up!
Damn.
Enoch.
Tell your men to stand down.
We didn't ask for this fight, Sheriff.
But we will answer.
You took my grandson.
Then you betrayed me.
You created this.
MICKEY: I'm not responsible
for your arrest.
I didn't even know
the Feds were watching you.
You chose to do nothing
in the face of tyranny.
That makes you complicit.
Now, if you want this siege to end,
then right the wrong and release me.
My people will do anything for me.
And I'll do anything for my people.
There is only one way to stop
what is coming, Sheriff Fox.
Let me go.
(pounding continues in distance)
(lock clicking)
We need to stop the bleeding.
- This is gonna sting.
- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
(yelling)
- Oh. (groans)
- Travis. Hey.
- Travis.
- (groaning)
So, you and Mickey, huh?
(grunts, chuckling)
Oh, come on.
You got shot in the chest,
and you've been grinning like an
idiot every time she walks past.
(chuckles) I never meant
to hurt you, Cass.
We dated a few months.
And I broke up with you, remember?
- Yeah. (chuckles) True.
- I was always gonna be
in the middle of whatever you two had.
Did you really never see that?
I don't know.
It feels like forever ago
since we were in here with Skye.
Oh, Skye.
Cassidy.
You kept me alive.
You didn't stop fighting.
Thank you.
Travis.
I shot someone.
Travis?
MICKEY: We don't have much time.
Sit.
Campbell.
What
What's he doing out of his cell?
MICKEY: This is not a federal facility.
Our holding cells are just that
holding cells.
The best way to keep Enoch secure
is to keep him in our sights.
CASSIDY: Travis's
blood pressure is dropping.
He needs a hospital, not a first aid kit.
- What do you propose?
- A trade.
We give them Barlow,
- and we walk out of here.
- KAVANAUGH: No.
No way. This prisoner's
not going anywhere.
He's not our prisoner.
He's theirs.
If he was in our holding cell,
he's our prisoner.
There was no reason to arrest him here.
It was a stupid move, and now
we're getting killed for it.
None of this is worth Travis's life.
Mickey, it's Travis.
KAVANAUGH: Enoch
Barlow is in federal custody.
Nothing anyone says
is going to change that.
We can't trust the Barlows.
Even if they agree to a deal,
one of their guys is lying dead
in our entryway.
We let them in, they're gonna
finish the job they started.
Enoch is the only thing
keeping us alive right now.
Cassidy, take Travis and Enoch
down to the utility room.
It's the safest place in the ECSO.
Get down there, you secure the doors.
KAVANAUGH: How many
times do I need to say this?
Barlow is my prisoner. This is my call.
BOONE: Hey, hey, hey! In this building,
that woman is in charge!
We take our orders from her.
We clear on that?
Enoch's not leaving my sight.
Great. You're welcome
to follow them down.
Clear my ECSO.
If someone's inside, you find them
and you take them out.
Copy that, Sheriff.
(grunts)
What about you?
I'm gonna talk to Ruth.
I've been in her home. She's a mother.
I think I can reason with her.
And if you can't?
Boone and I will try to hold
them off till backup arrives.
I need you in that utility room.
Keep Travis going. You hear me?
And remember, they can hear
everything we say, so be smart.
I've tracked the Barlows for two years.
I tracked their every move.
Ruth is a zealot. She's a believer.
And she will die for her family.
Shut up. Get moving.
Let's go.
BUCKNER: Enoch's right.
And nothing you can do will change that.
I still have to try.
Hey.
The morning started off so nice.
(chuckles)
Don't die.
You, neither.
If we both go, the only one left
to watch Skye is Wes.
(chuckles)
Well, then we agree.
(sniffles)
Neither of us dies.
Yes, Sheriff.
I never went to Yosemite.
My sister hassled me for years.
She said the waterfalls are so loud
you can't even hear yourself think.
It was a two-hour drive.
I always told myself
I didn't have enough time, and now
ENOCH: "Whoever digs a pit
will fall into it, and"
CASSIDY: "And whoever rolls a stone, it
will roll back to him." Proverbs 26:27.
Who started this ball rolling?
Boone, there's a trail of blood
leading away from the stairwell.
We are not alone.
Repeat, we are not alone.
Copy.
Where are you?
(Travis groaning)
You okay?
(groans)
It's, uh
- It's Travis, right?
- (groans) Yeah.
BUCKNER: Yeah, let me help you.
(Travis groans)
(indistinct shouting)
(rattling)
Ruth, I know you can hear me.
Ruth.
This doesn't need to go any further.
Stand down.
Go home before somebody else gets killed.
RUTH: No. No, we are
coming in to get my father.
(pounding)
Ruth, there is no scenario where
you walk out of here with your father.
Federal agents far less patient than me
are on their way with guns.
This doesn't need to end
the way you think it does.
(indistinct shouting continues)
(power saw grinding)
Think about David.
Do you ever want to see your son again?
Mickey.
The fortifications won't hold.
We got to find a different way to fight.
KAVANAUGH: Over there.
(buttons beeping)
(chuckles softly)
That won't save you.
Not with what's coming.
You like to hunt, Travis, right?
Travis.
(Travis groaning)
Travis!
Travis! Travis!
(power saw grinding in distance)
This is everything I could grab.
Couple of flash grenades,
nine-banger, shotgun shells.
It's gonna have to do.
We're out of time.
All right, come give me a hand.
Time to set some traps.
(groaning)
Careful.
Careful. Careful.
Okay, can you grab me some cloths?
(groaning)
(straining):
Cassidy.
It's okay.
You're gonna be okay.
Take off these handcuffs.
- I can save him.
- KAVANAUGH: No talking.
Shut the hell up.
(groaning)
I was a combat medic
in the first Gulf War.
KAVANAUGH: Shut up.
(Travis wheezing)
CASSIDY: You're gonna be okay.
Just rest, Travis, okay?
- How do I know I can trust you?
- KAVANAUGH: You can't.
There's no way
those cuffs are coming off.
ENOCH: "If your enemy
is hungry, feed him.
If he is thirsty,
give him water to drink."
Enough with the preaching!
It's your man who shot him.
You want to help?
- Tell me how to save him.
- Is any of this
worth the price of blood being paid?!
One of my men also died up there.
You want the blood
of another man on your hands?
Now take off these handcuffs
and let me save him!
Please just tell me what to do!
A bullet has pierced his lung.
Every breath he takes traps more air,
filling his chest.
He's being crushed to death
from the inside.
He can't breathe because of the pressure,
but his heart will give out
before his lungs do.
So what do I need to do?
Uh
Get a hypodermic needle. A big one.
Or a very sharp knife.
(straining): I can't breathe.
I can't breathe.
Watch him. I'm going
upstairs for supplies.
- Hang on.
- Hey. Don't cover the wound.
You're just trapping
the air inside. And, Deputy
bring him something for the pain.
MICKEY: I think I owe
Wes Fox an apology.
Having an outlaw drug dealer for a father
certainly has its advantages.
- He teach you this?
- Oh, man.
O.G. growers are absolutely insane.
One of our neighbors
dug a pit around his crop
and filled it with live rattlesnakes.
Another one used fish hooks
at eye level from the trees.
(clanking)
(indistinct shouting)
Fresh out of fish hooks and rattlesnakes.
Yeah, this will have to do.
BOONE: Thanks.
MICKEY: Careful with that flash-bang.
BOONE: Okay.
(indistinct chatter continues
in distance)
- Ready?
- Ready.
MICKEY: All right. This will
funnel them straight to us.
We can't stop them from coming in,
but maybe if we can
keep them bottlenecked
and preserve our ammo,
we can hold them off
till the Feds arrive.
I don't want anybody else
to get hurt tonight,
but they're coming
into our house to do us harm.
We do whatever it takes
to protect our people.
With pleasure.
(power saw grinding)
- What are you
- I, uh
I-I don't want Nora to worry. I
Hopefully, it delivers
once they stop jamming our signal.
(sighs) I just
(sighs)
I keep thinking about this morning.
I just watched her walk out
of The Meat Up, and
we barely even said goodbye, and she's
Now she's probably waiting by the phone,
wondering why I haven't
called her back and
I mean, I don't know.
You know
- I
- Hey.
Boone. Look at me.
We're all going home tonight. Okay?
- Yeah.
- Okay?
- Okay.
- Let's go.
(engine revving)
MICKEY: Cassidy, sitrep. How's Travis?
Heading upstairs for supplies.
Cassidy, armed militants are
about to bust through our doors.
I sent you downstairs for a reason.
Stay there. Supplies can wait.
Mickey, it's Travis.
He's having trouble breathing.
(pounding)
Copy.
(glass shatters)
(indistinct shouting)
BOONE: Damn it.
They're through the outer door.
(banging)
MAN: Yeah, hook it up, man!
(indistinct shouting)
All right, we're good.
- Let's go.
- Pull up the slack.
It's too much.
(banging continues)
It's too much.
- Mickey.
- It's too mu
- It's too much. It's too much.
- Mickey.
It's too much, it's too much.
- It's too much, it's too much.
- Mickey, Mickey, hey, hey,
- hey, hey.
- We can't.
Hey, Mickey. Hey.
I'm here.
We're here.
We are in this together.
We're doing this, okay?
We're doing this.
(glass shatters)
They're in.
MAN: Let's go! Break it!
MICKEY: They can't see
us until we fire, so stay low.
(indistinct chatter)
MAN: I got it, I got it.
- MAN: All right, let 'er rip!
- MAN 2: Go!
(engine revving)
- Hold.
- MAN: All right, come on!
MAN 2: Let's go!
Hold. Wait until they hit the flash-bang.
(groans)
Now!
(indistinct shouting)
Grandpa?
(gunfire in distance)
(indistinct shouting)
(indistinct shouting)
Sending.
(yells)
(grunting)
(indistinct shouting)
(groaning)
BOONE: They're moving down the hallway.
(groans)
RUTH: Spread out. Find the holding cells.
We got three in, plus four.
One went to the right.
Find Enoch.
Find my father!
Keep them pinned down
so we can find Enoch.
(buttons beeping)
(sighs)
Come on, come on, come on.
Come on.
Come on, come on,
come on, come on.
Come on, come on, come on.
(lock clanks)
(grunting)
(screams, sighs) Luis.
Deputy Campbell, I heard shooting.
I didn't know where else to hide.
EMILY: I was in the file room.
Luis pulled me in here. He saved me.
You did good.
They're in the building.
I have to grab a few things,
but when I leave, barricade that door
and don't let anyone else in here.
Needle. Needle, need
How is there no needle?
(panting)
Either one of you range-certified?
- I am.
- I need that knife.
- You good?
- Yes.
Three o'clock!
- How'd he get behind us?
- I don't know. I got to reload.
(grunts)
RUTH: Where is my father, Sheriff?
Stop this now.
Turn over Enoch, and I will
let your people live.
You all right?
Yeah, straight through. (groans)
There's no way she's letting us
walk out of here.
I know.
RUTH:
You can't hide him forever.
They keep coming.
- RUTH: Where is he?
- I'm almost out of ammo.
- RUTH: Where are you hiding him?
- Me, too.
I got six in the sidesaddle
and whatever's in the box.
I got two and a half mags.
- What now?
- I don't know.
TED: Chang to ECSO. Do you copy?
- Ted.
- He's back in range.
He's close enough to beat the jammers.
TED: Chang to ECSO.
That callout in Dogtown
was a false alarm.
Repeat, no street takeover.
I'll be back in 15 minutes.
I'm gonna stop by Smokey's for a burger.
- No.
- Let me know if you want anything.
- We got to get to that transmitter.
- It's between us and the Barlows.
We've got to reach Ted.
He can call in backup.
Yeah, he won't be able to swallow.
Just give him the powder.
Okay, now, now, find his bottom rib.
Now, now, count.
One, two, three, rib
yeah, that's the one.
You need to stick the knife
just below the bone.
- I don't know.
- ENOCH: There's no time.
You need to push until the knife
is in his chest cavity.
It will stop fighting you.
You'll feel it.
I-I don't know!
Just press until you hear the hiss.
That's the trapped air escaping.
(rapid, gasping breaths)
You need to go now!
- Oh, his blood's backing up.
- CASSIDY: Oh, God.
ENOCH: Th-There's too much pressure.
H-His heart's not pumping. He's dying.
Take off these cuffs!
No. Stop!
CASSIDY: Don't make me regret this.
(gasping, wheezing)
(air hissing)
(gasps)
(exhales)
(breathing deeply)
(sighs)
You're okay.
(indistinct shouting)
- We got to get to that transmitter.
- There's no path.
MAN: Spread out quickly!
What the hell do you think you're doing?
How are you helping?
What exactly have you done
to help this situation?
You're right.
I haven't done a damn thing.
I'm going up.
(door closes)
(stammers)
He needs water.
Take this. Don't let him move.
(door opens)
(door closes)
(gunfire continues)
(grunts) We got to reach
that transmitter.
If we can get to Chang,
we can call in the troops,
we all walk out of here.
We got one shot at this.
Okay?
Wait, Mickey. Mickey.
It's me.
- What?
- I have to make that run.
No.
Look, I can't cover you with my left arm.
Even if my arm wasn't shot to hell,
you're ten times better shot
than I will ever be.
This is the play.
With you covering me, I can make it.
It has to be me.
Here. Cover me.
MAN: All out! Reloading!
(sighs):
All right.
(indistinct shouting continues)
- Okay, ready?
- Yeah.
Mickey.
Boone, you are not saying goodbye.
- Mickey, t-tell Nora
- No.
Boone, I swear to God.
Tell Nora I love her.
Tell her I'm sorry.
Please. Please.
Please.
- Ready?
- Yep.
MAN: He's running!
MAN: Take him out!
Go!
MAN: Get him!
(gun cocking)
(footsteps approaching)
(grunting and groaning)
(straining)
(shouts)
(gun cocks)
(high-pitched ringing)
(muffled thumping)
(muffled grunting)
(gunshot)
BOONE: Ted, call everyone.
ECSO under attack.
Repeat, call everyone.
ECSO under attack. ECSO under attack.
(gunfire in distance)
TED: Copy that. Hold
tight. We're on our way.
(Buckner crying)
BUCKNER: He pushed right past me.
I tried to stop him,
but he was too strong.
MICKEY: Cassidy.
Boone is pinned down,
and I'm almost out of ammo.
CASSIDY: Copy that. And,
Mickey, Enoch is on the move.
Repeat, Enoch is on the move.
I'm on my way.
He pushed right past me.
I can't believe I let him go.
You feel bad you made a mistake?
Do something about it.
(gunfire in distance)
I have an idea.
Follow my lead.
MAN: Come on!
(yells)
(gun clicks)
MAN: Come on, keep moving!
CASSIDY: Buckner, now!
(groaning)
MAN: Get down! Take cover!
Go!
- Cassidy.
- Good to see you, too.
- I'm out.
- Here.
Boone went for the transmitter.
- I got to get to him.
- Here.
All right.
- I'll cover.
- Ready?
(gunfire continues in distance)
(grunts)
Sheriff?
Easy. Easy.
Hold your fire! Hold your fire.
ENOCH: Hold your fire!
(gunfire stops)
You brought the boy?
You brought my grandson to this?
Everybody, put your guns down.
- Kill her.
- Careful, Ruth.
Enoch, you were a medic.
Y-You went to war, you healed people.
You said you were a man of peace.
Is this how you want
to protect your family?
Is this the kind of world
you want for your grandchildren?
- Grandpa, what do I do?
- Shoot her.
(sirens wailing in distance)
- Ruth.
- Stop!
Do not move until I give
the command. Am I understood?
MICKEY: Enoch.
He's just a boy.
(sirens growing closer)
The cost is too high.
Don't throw away his future.
We all have too much blood
on our hands already.
It's all right, son.
(crying)
It's all right.
(Andrew whimpering softly)
(tires squealing outside)
(indistinct police radio chatter)
(camera shutter clicking)
- BOONE: Travis.
- MICKEY: Hey, hold on a second.
Hey.
(chuckles)
You're beautiful.
That's me letting you know.
(grunts softly)
