It was all a trap
to lure you out,
and it worked like a charm.

First. How did the locked
room come into existence?
If Seiji Kuwata
wasn't to blame,
there was a good
possibility that
Daiki Kuwata
snuck into the study
and locked the door
from the inside.
If so, what reason
would he have to do that?
Well, if I had to take a guess,
maybe he was trying
to steal some valuables?
That'd make sense,
but nothing in the room
was disturbed.
That's when I started
wondering.
What if instead of stealing,
he snuck into the room
in order
to put something there?
But the police conducted
a thorough search of the study.
And they didn't come
across anything
they considered
out of the ordinary.
[TAKAO]
I figured.
But after watching
the footage of the incident,
I noticed a clue that
any doctor should've caught.
Kotori. Did you notice?
Yes.
There was something
about the director's actions
after discovering Daiki Kuwata.
The procedure was a bit off.

- However, I can't figure out
why he would have
done it that way.
I reviewed
the same footage myself.
He confirmed
the victim's heart had stopped
and began compressions.
I didn't notice anything
strange about that.
His actions were fine
for a normal person.
Thing is, the director
is an experienced cardiologist.

There's a standard

It starts with calling out

Any doctor knows that.

approached it differently.
Seems odd.

the way you checked
his breathing and pulse

And to check for breath,
you either observe
the chest rising
or bring your ear
close to the mouth.
Yet the first thing you did
was place your ear
to his chest instead.
Well, it all happened so fast.
I made a mistake.
I just panicked.
[TAKAO] You were searching
for something, weren't you?
For the item Daiki Kuwata
was trying to put in the study.
[whimpers]
You're the reason
why he was in there.
He was only following
the instructions

In other words,
he ordered Daiki Kuwata

then injure his little brother,

the next chairman.
The director thought
Ryuichiro Kuwata
was going to appoint him
to be his successor.
But that isn't what happened.
Seiji was chosen to be
next in line instead.
That's why he reached out
to his nephew, Daiki,
whom he was already
in contact with.
And he used him to try
to bring Ryuichiro down.
He'd do that
with a certain something.
Which would be?
It's something that
creates a connection
between him and Daiki Kuwata.
In fact, it's right there.
He's currently
holding it in his hand.
[gasps]

And this guy was a customer.
He was buying stimulants
off of Daiki and taking them.

but he didn't seem
tired at all.
That's a side effect
of usage of stimulants.
And his morbidly thin body
is another side effect
of a stimulant addiction.
He was planning to have
Daiki plant stimulants
somewhere inside of the study,
then report it to the police.
If you recall, Ryuichiro Kuwata
was feeling sick at the party.
That was most likely
a result of him
being drugged via his drink.
If stimulants were
discovered in his own study
on top of his urine
testing positive for it,
he'd have no way out.
So the reason
he came here today
Things didn't quite go
according to plan.
However,
despite the circumstances,
he was still able
to get rid of both
Ryuichiro and Seiji Kuwata.
I bet he's the anonymous
whistleblower, too.
Due to everything
that occurred,
he was positive
he would become
the next chairman.
But after he received that
bit of false information
from Ryuichiro,
he couldn't help but panic.
So he showed up
to plant stimulants here
and fell right into my trap.
[SAKURAI]
Makes sense.
For the time being,
we can arrest you
for possession of stimulants.
And while we have you
in custody - Ow, ow, ow.

That's why I panicked
and pretended to check
for a pulse.
I searched his body
and took them from his jacket.
But I swear I wasn't
the one who killed him!
He admitted
to everything you said,
apart from
Daiki Kuwata's murder.
Unfortunately, that part
still remains unsolved.
I could've sworn that
after his arrest,
we'd at least be able to glean
some new information.
We managed to figure out
what led to the incident
on that day.
But despite our efforts,
I'm afraid the most
important part of this mystery
still hasn't been solved.
