The Librarians: The Next Chapter (2025) s01e12 Episode Script
And the Unfinished Business
1
[thrilling music]
[metallic high-pitched ringing]
Find it. Find the harmonics.
[magical swishing]
[choir music]
[dramatic music]
No, no, no, no, no.
Gregor has used
his new sorcerer's brigade
to open a tomb.
[theme music]
[pensive music]
Oh, there's no need for that,
Ms. Pascal.
The six months ends today.
You'll all be leaving us soon,
and the Library will be taking
care of the Annex from now on.
Uh, what do you mean by that?
Well, as in 1847, this Annex
will be folded back
into the Grand Library.
It will cease to exist.
What? No, no.
Not our Annex.
I would have thought
you'd be thrilled.
You'll be able to sell the castle.
Use the proceeds to fund
your various acronymic endeavors.
Yeah, you're right. It's great.
Where are you taking all that?
I'll be back in the barracks soon.
Now, some of this equipment's
extremely rare.
This 16th century
Sabre à lame courbe.
Mm, Vikram gave me this.
Well, uh, I got a teaching job.
- Oh, that's
- What?
- That's amazing.
- [Connor] Yeah.
Never thought I'd be back
at a university again.
You're vindicated.
That's wonderful.
Now you can teach about magic again.
Uh, well, no.
A condition of my employment is, uh,
I'm not allowed to mention magic
or anything supernatural, so
Not exactly the redemption
I was hoping for,
but, uh, I'm teaching again,
so that's something.
- Right?
- Yeah.
That's marvelous, Mr. Green.
I'm really gonna miss this place
and you guys.
[magical ringing and whooshing]
Did you miss me?
Mr. Stone.
Good to have you back in
our little corner of the world.
Elaine.
Mr. Jenkins sends a fond regard.
Hm.
Good to see you, sir.
[Stone] It's good to be seen.
You guys have done an amazing job.
Unfortunately, it does end here.
Uh Why does it have to end here?
I don't make the rules.
The Library does.
You see, the Library decides
who will be a Librarian,
decides who will be a Guardian,
decides if the Annex exists
and if it doesn't.
But you guys have been incredible.
And on behalf of the Library,
I would like to send
a very heartfelt thank you.
"Thank you"? That's it?
That's all I got.
I, however, do have
three plane tickets.
Uno, dos, tres.
First class. Huh?
If we have to leave,
couldn't we just use
the magic door
one last time to get home?
I'm afraid the door
is only for those in the service
of the Library.
And we're not anymore.
Stop! Stop! Stop!
[heavy breathing]
We must not. We cannot.
What? Breathe, breathe.
Ah, Mr. Rock.
- Stone.
- Precisely.
Um, just a matter of
some unfinished business
that needs sorting out.
- What kind of business?
- Uh, a threat.
A danger of the utmost importance.
All right, well, whatever it is,
I'll take it from here.
Elaine?
[magical shrieking]
Whoa!
That ever happen before?
- Certainly not.
- That's a map of--
- Caucasylvia!
- Cauca-what?
[Lysa] Uh, Caucasylvia.
It's a small
Eastern European country.
We did a mission there.
My God, the burning embers
have landed
on the Capitol Building.
A pendulum to overload like this
means we're dealing with something
well beyond the scope
of our previous endeavors.
No. Hey, no.
Hey, Vikram! Hey, what were you
gonna tell us?
I'm afraid, Mr. Stone,
we must travel to Caucasylvia
tout de suite.
No! No more missions!
No!
Don't run away from me again.
This is gonna be a long day, huh?
[low playful music]
Ow.
- You can't just go.
- [shushes]
Apparently, President Raddos
is about to address the room.
[applause]
Thank you.
This is a momentous day
in the history of Caucasylvia.
A day that will forever change
the course of history
and the rebirth
of our cherished lands.
However, this will be
my last public address.
I'm stepping down as the
President of Caucasylvia.
[concerned murmuring]
But I'm handing over the reins
to a man most capable
of leading us into the future,
a man of strength, wisdom,
and determination.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I present to you the new leader
of our fine country,
General Bogdan Gregor.
[military march music]
[ominous music]
[magical hum and swooshing]
This is the unfinished business.
[magical swoosh]
Sword of Mars?
Are you kidding me?
You let Gregor get his hands
on the Sword of Mars?
Last time we saw Gregor,
he'd lost his people,
his magic.
Yeah, he ran off with his tail
between his legs.
What kind of an artifact allowed him
to take over a country so quickly?
It was rumored to be buried in
the lost tomb of Attila the Hun.
Gregor found the tomb
and the sword back in 1847.
He was in the act
of retrieving the sword
when I locked us both
in the time bubble.
You prevented him from getting it?
[Vikram] Back then, yes.
But now that he has escaped
the time bubble,
I fear he would go back
to retrieve it.
Whoa, wait, wait, wait,
wait, wait.
You knew where the sword was.
You didn't go get it?
You've been here for six months.
I did not know
the specific incantation.
[mumbles]
But then I found
that the frequency of this,
when struck against the Medina Crystal,
would emulate the harmonies
of the incantation.
I was on my way to get the sword,
but I was too late.
You didn't know the incantation.
You're in the Annex
to the Library, man.
- Look it up!
- Sorry, sorry.
What is the Sword of Mars?
The Sword of Mars is one
of the most powerful
magical items ever.
Makes you unbeatable in battle.
It's on the Library's
10 most wanted list.
Attila nearly conquered
the world with it.
I can't believe you knew
where the sword was,
you didn't get it.
Didn't you rescue Vikram
from the time bubble?
Yes, I did.
[Lysa] So you were in the lost tomb?
- Yep.
- So you could have
- retrieved it yourself?
- No, no.
'Cause, well, yeah, you can't
You're not thinking of what
This is
I was busy saving him!
Ha!
Pointing fingers at one another
is not going to help us.
The fact is, Gregor now has
one of the most powerful
objects in the world.
[dramatic music]
Sword, I will keep you safe in here
while you keep me safe
from my adversaries.
[magical whirring and swishing]
Organize a meeting for me
to address the leaders
of the world's nations.
Tell them to check their defenses,
their weapon systems.
If they want answers,
I will provide them.
And those who dare not defend
will regret it.
[Vikram] I thought I had more time.
I thought that Gregor did not
have the Sorcerer's Brigade
to reopen the tomb,
but I was wrong.
He has clearly transformed
the band formerly known
as Gregor's Hammer
into the Sorcerer's Brigade.
[Lysa]
Okay, so he has the sword, but
Wait, you said the tomb was empty.
Where is Attila's remains?
No bones, no body, completely empty.
Of course it was.
They had to bury the sword.
You see, when the keeper
of the sword is defeated,
they get assimilated,
body and soul,
into the sword's blade.
It increases the power.
So we're not just dealing
with Gregor anymore.
We are dealing with the spirit
of Attila the Hun
and whoever else
has ever wielded the sword.
But why Caucasylvia?
You know, if Gregor
has this much power,
why go after a little-known
country with a tiny army?
Are there other known
magical artifacts there?
Maybe resources that he needs?
The power of the sword
would have directed him
towards something
that would allow him
to accomplish his goals.
What that is in Caucasylvia,
I do not know.
[trumpet ringtone playing]
[phone vibrating]
What?
[suspensive music]
Right now?
Yeah.
That was DOSA.
They're at the United Nations
and they're requesting me.
What's DOSA?
The Department
of Statistical Anomalies.
It's a super secret government
agency that deals with magic.
They confront supernatural
threats and sometimes call us
to store and protect what they find.
Yes, but they usually don't call us
unless it's something
they can't handle.
Um, um, are you going alone?
You guys have done a great job, okay?
But when it comes to saving the world,
it's time for real Librarians.
Vikram knows Gregor
better than anyone.
Yeah, we've all just gone up
against him.
Come on.
It's just one more mission.
Please.
Listen
[adventurous music]
All right, you two,
you come with me.
You guys dig up whatever you can
on "Caucasylvania,"
the sword, Attila, Gregor, the works.
[magical swooshing]
[magical swooshing]
Sorry, no unauthorized visitors.
I'm a Librarian.
Of course, sir.
I saw Vikram try and use that.
Doesn't always work for him.
Took me a while to master it.
It's a little harder than it looks.
[Janis] Stone.
Janis Copeland.
I've been expecting you.
[Stone]
Mm-hmm. This is Vikram Chamberlain.
- This is--
- This must be Charlie.
I've heard much about you.
- Heard about me.
- Not much gets by DOSA.
- Mm. Not much.
- What have they told you?
Just that you were concerned
and you needed our help.
Defense systems all around the world
have just suddenly gone down.
Computers, satellites, missile systems
are failing everywhere.
In short, the nations of the world
are vulnerable and defenseless.
They've all been hacked?
[Janis] That's what they believe,
but we have some intel
that something strange,
possibly magic-related,
was going on in Caucasylvia.
[static humming]
[ominous music]
Delegates and ambassadors,
you have all accepted
my invitation today
because you are aware
that your countries
are now defenseless.
What you may not know
that the country of Caucasylvia,
as of today,
has long-range nuclear missiles.
I'm currently targeting
a major city
in every one of your countries--
[audience exclaiming and murmuring]
--but war can be avoided.
You have 12 hours to draft letters
of total and complete surrender to me
and pledge fealty.
Defy me and you will pay
a bitter price.
[audience exclaims]
We knew they were trying
to develop a nuclear program,
but we thought they were years away.
Sword must have sensed it.
Now we know
why Gregor chose Caucasylvia.
Nuclear capable
and easy to take over.
He's done it.
His demented dreams for world
domination have come true.
[tense music]
[magical swooshing]
All right.
We got just under 11 hours
to get the sword back
from Gregor into the Library
in order to save the world.
- Piece of cake.
- I like your attitude.
[Gregor] You idiot!
What is this femininity?
On every table,
I want black roses.
Black roses?
Where would we find--
Black, to show our power,
the roses to show our love.
And make sure they have thorns,
lots of thorns.
- He's not wearing the sword.
- That's bad?
It means
that when we find the sword,
we have a chance to steal it
without being
under his watchful eye.
This palace is enormous.
Could be anywhere.
[device beeping]
What the hell is that?
Uh, having studied the magic pendulum,
I was able to scientifically
recreate the energy detection
it uses on this app that I made.
It's worked quite well
in the past.
You scienced the magic.
Cassandra would love that.
You three, find out
where he's hiding the sword.
Charlie, you're with me.
We're gonna keep an eye on Gregor.
[rapid beeping]
Stairs.
[playful music]
[swishing]
Go.
Tell me about it.
[humming]
Hm. [sniffs] Mm.
Oh! Hello. [chuckles]
Quick question.
Do either one of you have a headache?
[dramatic music]
Because you will now.
You always carry chloroform on you?
- Girl's gotta be prepared.
- Fascinating.
[dramatic music]
Why is this still here?
Where's the new flag?
[foreboding music]
[Gregor]
Now, let's sample the wine.
[device beeping]
Okay, well, it's gotta be
around here somewhere.
Uh [radio jargon]
Ah. [clears throat]
Okay, come now. Chop, chop.
Put these on the table.
Thank you.
President Gregor would like
one black rose in there.
[mysterious music]
Now, I know a lot
about breaking into safes,
but that predates me.
Tubman & Sons from the 1830s.
Need an unusual key to unlock it.
Yeah, a Tubman key has got
complex grooves and edges.
Huh.
[Male Guard] It's them!
[Female Guard]
They took our clothes!
Hey!
Ah, and that's our time to leave.
[dramatic music]
Your generals report
that the weapons are live.
We fire the first round of missiles
after tonight's ball.
Destroy a few cities.
But what if they surrender first?
It matters not.
We must show our strength
and our will.
Millions would die.
Yes.
A glorious death in service
of our cause.
A splendid way
to end our celebration.
We have to warn everyone.
Hey! Who are you two?
You shouldn't be here.
I'm a Librarian.
I don't care who you are.
You are in a secured area,
and you are under arrest.
[choking]
I'm a Librarian.
I'm a Librarian.
You don't understand.
I'm a Librarian.
Mrs. A, we need a door now.
There must be some magical
artifacts we can use here
that can get us past the guards
and into the safe.
I don't know.
The power of the sword is unlike
anything I've ever seen.
It's blocking weaker magic.
Is that why when you tried
the "I'm a Librarian" thing,
it didn't work?
Unless you didn't do it right.
I did it-- I did it right.
I know how to do it.
I learned how to do it.
All right? It blocked me.
[trumpet ringtone playing]
[phone vibrating]
Stone.
What? Calm
Calm down.
[tense music]
I'm on my way.
What is it?
Copeland, she needs me back
at the U.N., alone.
You have to tell them.
They have to know that,
even if they surrender,
he plans on killing millions tonight.
I know, Charlie.
You guys keep working.
Find a solution.
I think we've got something.
It's been bugging me, right?
Ever since Stone told us that
if the sword's owner is defeated,
they're assimilated into it.
Because if you have the sword,
how can you possibly be defeated?
So Mr. Green asked me to help him
find everything we have
on the previous owners
of the blade.
It's the Sword of Mars, right?
So let's start with Mars
and the story of him and Venus.
Venus's husband Vulcan crafted
a magical net
and caught them
in an adulterous affair.
The gods then ridiculed Mars
for being defeated by love.
Jump forward to Attila the Hun,
the last owner before Gregor.
The story goes Attila married
a young woman named Ildico
on the eve of a planned attack
in 453 A.D.
The wedding celebration involved
Attila indulging heavily.
The next morning,
Attila was found dead
in the bridal chamber.
But wasn't the cause of death
some kind of internal bleeding
brought on by excessive drinking?
According to the Roman
chronicler, uh
- Marcellinus.
- Marcellinus. Thank you.
"Attila, King of the Huns
"and ravager of the provinces
of Europe,
"was pierced by the hand
and blade of his wife
shortly after their wedding."
So they were both defeated by love?
Precisely.
That is its blind spot.
The sword protects its owner
from all forms of attack.
Its Achilles' Heel is love.
So we just have to find someone
that Gregor loves?
Easy.
Mm.
[mystical music]
Oh.
- [Charlie] Yes.
- No.
No. No, no, no.
Hold on a second.
[Vikram] That's it.
You will appear at the ball as Anya.
You will convince him
that you are she.
The sword will not recognize
this as an attack
and we will be free to steal the Sword.
This is crazy talk.
You want me to pretend
to be someone,
someone that I don't know
anything about?
But someone
I know everything about.
Oh, I will train you
how to walk like her,
talk like her, think like her.
Oh, when I am done training you,
you will be Anya Besson.
[Lysa] [poor British accent]
Blimey. I'm Anya Besson.
My God, woman.
Anya is not some sort
of street urchin.
No. She is an aristocrat.
And for the last time,
it is not "Behson."
It is Besson. Hm? French roots.
French pronunciation.
- [Lysa] Ow!
- [Charlie] Then hold still.
[Lysa] Listen, Henry Higgins.
You want to start rain
in Spain-ing me
and I'm going to forget
the whole thing.
If I had any idea
what you were talking about,
I would reply with a witty retort.
Now, again.
[Lysa] Besson.
Better.
[Lysa] [as Anya]
What lovely and pleasant weather
we are having this season.
Hmm. A little overdoing it,
but much, much better.
Okay, so I think I got
the hair right.
[Lysa] Oh, okay.
[suspensive music]
It's not right?
Perfect.
You are her.
[emotional strings music]
Are you okay, sir?
Yes. Sorry.
It's just seeing her again,
seeing you as her,
it has moved me, beyond measure.
- Maybe this is a bad idea.
- Nonsense.
Keep in mind, Anya is elegant.
Refined. Hm?
Hm-hmm.
Sophisticated.
But impulsive, whimsical.
Charming.
And the kindest person
to walk the Earth.
Great. No, great. Easy-peasy.
[chuckles]
Copeland.
Thank you for coming.
You're gonna have to act fast.
We went through our entire database.
Every magical artifact failed.
Nothing was able to overcome
the power of the Sword of Mars.
All right, well, maybe we got
something back at the Library
that would help.
Nothing in your registry was able
to get the world's defenses
back online.
All right, wait, wait, wait, wait.
What did you mean when you said
I had to act fast?
You have to shut down the Library.
Disconnect it from this reality.
Protect all
of the magical artifacts
from whatever's about to happen.
They're going to be needed
to help rebuild
once the smoke
or the fallout clears.
No, there's got to be
another way, okay?
- We don't just give up.
- We're out of time.
Protect the Library while you can.
[suspensive music]
[The Beautiful Blue Danube playing]
I can't do this.
I'm too nervous.
[Vikram] Nonsense.
With these marvelous
communication devices
you created, hm, I'll be
in your ear the entire time.
[chuckles lightly]
Anya?
My dearest Bogdan, you look
as though you've seen a ghost.
- What deception is this?
- Deception?
No. I am as real as the pulse
in your fingertips.
Dance with me.
Remember, Anya is
an extremely graceful dancer.
[grunts]
How is it possible you are here? Now?
Uh, Vikram, he summoned me,
using black necromancy.
Oh.
But you see, I saw you weeks ago
through the scrying glass.
I was able to see everything.
I don't know who you are,
but you are not Anya Besson.
All right, then. Tell him this.
Once arriving to this future
When I arrived to this future,
Vikram bewitched me,
altering my voice, my visage.
His sorcery
kept me under his spell.
That is, until I discovered
you were here.
You expect me
to believe this fairy tale?
The spell broke when I knew
you were nearby.
[Vikram] "And I was able to escape."
And I was able to escape.
"Now I can be with you."
[Lysa] To be with you.
- [Vikram] "Bear your children."
- Ah, bear your children.
Bear my children?
Or adopt, maybe.
[gasps lightly]
Appeal to his vanity.
I would swim across the furthest
ocean to be with you, my love.
- Because you know
- She's found it.
[Vikram] Connor, go.
You will always have the key
to my heart.
Shall we dance?
[sneaky music]
When you need to break
into a secure room,
air vents are your best friend.
Horrible metal sphincter.
[magical zapping]
Ah!
Why is this happening?
The sword senses
someone other than Gregor
is trying to get it,
protecting itself.
But I thought, once Gregor
was smitten by love,
the sword's defenses would be down.
Ah, the defenses are only down
for the object of that love.
Which means Lysa's the only one
who could get it?
[static crackle]
Lysa, it is entirely up to you now.
[dramatic sting]
[ballroom song crescendos
and fades out]
[Gregor and Lysa chuckle]
If you'll excuse me.
Get this back in his pocket
before he realizes it's missing.
[Lysa] I don't think he's buying it.
[Charlie] You have to get him
to open that safe.
He's insane.
If he finds out that I'm pretending,
- he will kill me.
- Hey.
I'm your guardian, too.
I won't let anything happen to you.
[ominous music]
Hm!
Pray tell, my love, what is this?
Your favorite drink, my love.
Please.
Favorite drink?
What's her favorite drink?
Come on, you gotta know
what her favorite drink was.
I cannot recall her favorite drink.
- You can't get this wrong.
- [Gregor] Please, drink.
Tell me what I have brought you.
Surely you know the name
of your favorite drink.
- [chuckles nervously]
- [chuckles]
Hm.
[tense music]
Sugar, bitters, cognac, and absinthe.
A Sazerac, you remembered.
Anya, it is you!
It's her!
How could you possibly know that?
It's a family recipe.
Grandma used to make it
at Christmas.
- [Gregor] [laughing gleefully]
- [Lysa] [squeals]
- You are back.
- [chuckles]
I can't believe it.
- And the world is finally ours.
- Mm.
You have to get him
to open the safe.
I am so glad we are reunited.
It's just such a shame
that you weren't able
to retrieve the Sword of Mars
all those years ago,
like you had hoped.
And now we are stuck
in this ghastly future.
No, this future is wonderful.
You will see.
So much more to conquer.
This modern world
will be more fun to rule.
And you do believe
you could conquer it?
Would you like to know a secret?
- You know I adore secrets.
- I have the Sword of Mars.
It is finally mine.
And now no one can stop me.
You are teasing me.
You do not have the sword.
- I do.
- I don't believe you.
I must see it with my own eyes.
[mild suspensive music]
Then
see it you shall.
[sneaky music]
I don't trust modern security.
So I had them bring this safe
from a museum.
Exactly like the one I had
back in Belgrade.
[light dramatic music]
Where is my key? I had it.
I
thought I felt it
whilst we were dancing.
[mysterious music]
The Sword of Mars.
Unparalleled power.
Unsurpassed strength.
- It's beautiful.
- [Gregor] "Beautiful"?
It's magnificent.
The power of the greatest
warriors of all time
contained within its steel.
May I hold it?
What?
The sword.
May I hold it?
Why?
You and the sword are one.
To hold the sword
is to hold your soul.
Your heart.
You wouldn't deny me
your heart now, would you?
[music intensifies]
Close your eyes.
Why?
It's a surprise.
You are incorrigible.
Hm.
Uh
[guard shouts]
Get to the door.
[tense music]
Guards!
[gasps]
Traitors!
Sword, come!
[magical humming and swishing]
Vikram, you used this woman
to betray me.
You underestimate me.
Arrest them.
No, no, no, no.
We'll hang them for treason.
Never thought much of you, Gregor.
But I didn't think
that you were a coward.
You and I are from another time.
A more noble time.
May we not finish this in the old way?
[chuckles cynically]
[snaps fingers]
You want to battle me?
Vikram.
I have the Sword of Mars,
and you have
What's that? Walking stick?
[villainous laughing]
That really is the most
hideous laugh, Gregor.
Honestly, you really should work
on that.
Come, little boy.
Let me teach you
how real men fight.
[dramatic music]
I tire of this foolishness.
Up, up, up, up, up.
[music swells]
[grunts, groans]
I should have ended you
[magical swoosh]
[Stone] Woah, woah, that's
That doesn't seem fair.
Sorry, but who are you?
Me? Oh, no, I'm just a Librarian.
Well, Librarian,
this is not your concern.
This battle is between Vikram and I.
I totally agree,
but it should be a fair fight.
Don't you think?
Cal? [whistles]
[group exclaiming]
- Is that Excalibur?
- Yeah.
Whistle to it.
[whistles]
[magical swishing]
[metallic impact bang]
[triumphant choir music]
Where were we?
[epic music]
Our swords are well matched.
But you, however, are not my equal.
[effort grunts]
[grunting]
[panting]
[shouts]
Pardon me.
[grunting]
[ballroom attendees gasping]
You thought you could fool me
with a fake Anya.
You're pathetic.
Why not? I fooled you
with the real Anya for years.
[grunting]
[Stone] Go, go!
[Gregor] Lies!
[grunting]
She and I had a power
greater than anything
you have ever known.
[grunting]
Greater than any magic you stole.
Stronger than any army you amassed.
[grunting] [music crescendos]
It's called love, Gregor.
True love.
It seems my life is now
in your hands.
Do you intend to kill me, Librarian?
Unfortunately for you,
your fate was sealed
the day you took the Sword of Mars.
[magical swishing]
[dramatic music]
No!
Are you all right?
Indeed.
Thanks to Excalibur.
I think it's time
we put this in the Library,
where it belongs.
[music crescendos]
[jovial music]
[Lysa] Stop.
[Vikram] All for one and one for all.
We fight for gold? Nay, love!
Ha!
[whistles]
Do you have to take him?
I was just getting the hang of it.
Look, I promise
I'll return him to the Library
with all the other artifacts.
[Stone] No, no, no.
He is not an artifact.
Excalibur's more
than just a magic object.
[Excalibur chirps]
He's a Guardian.
[Excalibur squeaks]
[whistles] Go on.
[Excalibur whines]
Thank you for letting us join
one last adventure.
The pleasure is mine.
However, I have to tell you,
at first I thought you guys
were just going to be
another problem
I had to deal with, huh?
But you made me look good.
I couldn't have made a better choice.
So you're saying that,
if it was up to you,
then we wouldn't have to leave?
That we could remain a team?
That's not up to me.
You know that.
It's up to the Library.
[low mystical humming]
[pleasant tranquil music]
You might want to take another look
at those plane tickets
that I gave you guys.
[magical swishing]
[Connor] "You have been selected"
"For a prestigious position"
[Charlie]
"At the Metropolitan Public Library."
Does this mean
The Library has made a decision.
You've shown the ability
to protect the Library's secrets.
Your passion
for the Library's mission,
it has been recognized.
This means I don't have to take
that awful teaching job.
- [women chuckle]
- [Stone] You
Well, you've learned not only
to appreciate the past,
but to protect it.
The Library has recognized
your willingness to exchange
fortune, riches,
for a more noble, selfless cause.
And you did the one thing that
only a true Librarian can do.
You saved the world.
Wait. This does mean
I'm a Guardian, right?
My dear, you thought you'd been
rejected by the Library
when nothing could be further
from the truth.
Charlie.
You've always been a Guardian.
The Library was just trying
to find the right place for you.
And that place, it's here.
We offer you a life of mystery,
and misery, a life of loneliness,
and adventure,
but, most importantly,
a chance to make a difference,
a chance to save the world
every day of the week
and twice before Friday.
Are you in?
[All] Yes.
[laughing gleefully]
[Stone] Did you know that
[Connor]
I won't let you down, man.
I won't let you down.
Does this mean
that I won't be reassigned
to the Main Library
as a useless relic?
Oh, I think the world
could use another
exceptional Librarian.
Just promise me you won't put
any more artifacts in the Annex.
Oh, I promise.
- But this goes back
- Damn it.
As soon as I've done
one last thing.
[emotional music]
[magical swishing]
Vikram.
Is that you?
Is this a dream?
A reverie of the heart?
It is not a dream, my love.
I believed you dead.
Are you speaking to me
from the beyond?
I come to you from beyond.
Beyond time.
But, no, I am not dead.
Then come to me.
Step through this haze.
Return to me.
I cannot.
You have always been
my greatest magic.
And I am sorry
for ever having left you alone.
Oh, my darling.
[chuckles] [baby coos]
I am not alone.
You see? [chuckles]
[Vikram chuckles]
And who is this?
Oh.
This is your, our
great, great, great,
great granddaughter.
Lysa.
Well
I can see that you are
not alone either.
Goodbye, my love.
Goodbye, my heart.
[magical swishing]
[music crescendos]
[magical swish]
So are we ready for a lifetime
of mystery and misery,
of loneliness and adventure,
but, most of all,
a chance to make a difference?
[Charlie] Ooh. Venice.
[Lysa] I hear it's pretty magic
this time of year.
[Merlin]
This is not the end of the story.
Does a story ever truly end?
Old characters leave the stage.
New characters step into the light.
Sometimes old characters return.
You may not recognize us at first.
But you know my name.
I am Merlin.
[dramatic sting]
[adventurous music]
[zapping]
[rapid beeping]
[thrilling music]
[metallic high-pitched ringing]
Find it. Find the harmonics.
[magical swishing]
[choir music]
[dramatic music]
No, no, no, no, no.
Gregor has used
his new sorcerer's brigade
to open a tomb.
[theme music]
[pensive music]
Oh, there's no need for that,
Ms. Pascal.
The six months ends today.
You'll all be leaving us soon,
and the Library will be taking
care of the Annex from now on.
Uh, what do you mean by that?
Well, as in 1847, this Annex
will be folded back
into the Grand Library.
It will cease to exist.
What? No, no.
Not our Annex.
I would have thought
you'd be thrilled.
You'll be able to sell the castle.
Use the proceeds to fund
your various acronymic endeavors.
Yeah, you're right. It's great.
Where are you taking all that?
I'll be back in the barracks soon.
Now, some of this equipment's
extremely rare.
This 16th century
Sabre à lame courbe.
Mm, Vikram gave me this.
Well, uh, I got a teaching job.
- Oh, that's
- What?
- That's amazing.
- [Connor] Yeah.
Never thought I'd be back
at a university again.
You're vindicated.
That's wonderful.
Now you can teach about magic again.
Uh, well, no.
A condition of my employment is, uh,
I'm not allowed to mention magic
or anything supernatural, so
Not exactly the redemption
I was hoping for,
but, uh, I'm teaching again,
so that's something.
- Right?
- Yeah.
That's marvelous, Mr. Green.
I'm really gonna miss this place
and you guys.
[magical ringing and whooshing]
Did you miss me?
Mr. Stone.
Good to have you back in
our little corner of the world.
Elaine.
Mr. Jenkins sends a fond regard.
Hm.
Good to see you, sir.
[Stone] It's good to be seen.
You guys have done an amazing job.
Unfortunately, it does end here.
Uh Why does it have to end here?
I don't make the rules.
The Library does.
You see, the Library decides
who will be a Librarian,
decides who will be a Guardian,
decides if the Annex exists
and if it doesn't.
But you guys have been incredible.
And on behalf of the Library,
I would like to send
a very heartfelt thank you.
"Thank you"? That's it?
That's all I got.
I, however, do have
three plane tickets.
Uno, dos, tres.
First class. Huh?
If we have to leave,
couldn't we just use
the magic door
one last time to get home?
I'm afraid the door
is only for those in the service
of the Library.
And we're not anymore.
Stop! Stop! Stop!
[heavy breathing]
We must not. We cannot.
What? Breathe, breathe.
Ah, Mr. Rock.
- Stone.
- Precisely.
Um, just a matter of
some unfinished business
that needs sorting out.
- What kind of business?
- Uh, a threat.
A danger of the utmost importance.
All right, well, whatever it is,
I'll take it from here.
Elaine?
[magical shrieking]
Whoa!
That ever happen before?
- Certainly not.
- That's a map of--
- Caucasylvia!
- Cauca-what?
[Lysa] Uh, Caucasylvia.
It's a small
Eastern European country.
We did a mission there.
My God, the burning embers
have landed
on the Capitol Building.
A pendulum to overload like this
means we're dealing with something
well beyond the scope
of our previous endeavors.
No. Hey, no.
Hey, Vikram! Hey, what were you
gonna tell us?
I'm afraid, Mr. Stone,
we must travel to Caucasylvia
tout de suite.
No! No more missions!
No!
Don't run away from me again.
This is gonna be a long day, huh?
[low playful music]
Ow.
- You can't just go.
- [shushes]
Apparently, President Raddos
is about to address the room.
[applause]
Thank you.
This is a momentous day
in the history of Caucasylvia.
A day that will forever change
the course of history
and the rebirth
of our cherished lands.
However, this will be
my last public address.
I'm stepping down as the
President of Caucasylvia.
[concerned murmuring]
But I'm handing over the reins
to a man most capable
of leading us into the future,
a man of strength, wisdom,
and determination.
Ladies and gentlemen,
I present to you the new leader
of our fine country,
General Bogdan Gregor.
[military march music]
[ominous music]
[magical hum and swooshing]
This is the unfinished business.
[magical swoosh]
Sword of Mars?
Are you kidding me?
You let Gregor get his hands
on the Sword of Mars?
Last time we saw Gregor,
he'd lost his people,
his magic.
Yeah, he ran off with his tail
between his legs.
What kind of an artifact allowed him
to take over a country so quickly?
It was rumored to be buried in
the lost tomb of Attila the Hun.
Gregor found the tomb
and the sword back in 1847.
He was in the act
of retrieving the sword
when I locked us both
in the time bubble.
You prevented him from getting it?
[Vikram] Back then, yes.
But now that he has escaped
the time bubble,
I fear he would go back
to retrieve it.
Whoa, wait, wait, wait,
wait, wait.
You knew where the sword was.
You didn't go get it?
You've been here for six months.
I did not know
the specific incantation.
[mumbles]
But then I found
that the frequency of this,
when struck against the Medina Crystal,
would emulate the harmonies
of the incantation.
I was on my way to get the sword,
but I was too late.
You didn't know the incantation.
You're in the Annex
to the Library, man.
- Look it up!
- Sorry, sorry.
What is the Sword of Mars?
The Sword of Mars is one
of the most powerful
magical items ever.
Makes you unbeatable in battle.
It's on the Library's
10 most wanted list.
Attila nearly conquered
the world with it.
I can't believe you knew
where the sword was,
you didn't get it.
Didn't you rescue Vikram
from the time bubble?
Yes, I did.
[Lysa] So you were in the lost tomb?
- Yep.
- So you could have
- retrieved it yourself?
- No, no.
'Cause, well, yeah, you can't
You're not thinking of what
This is
I was busy saving him!
Ha!
Pointing fingers at one another
is not going to help us.
The fact is, Gregor now has
one of the most powerful
objects in the world.
[dramatic music]
Sword, I will keep you safe in here
while you keep me safe
from my adversaries.
[magical whirring and swishing]
Organize a meeting for me
to address the leaders
of the world's nations.
Tell them to check their defenses,
their weapon systems.
If they want answers,
I will provide them.
And those who dare not defend
will regret it.
[Vikram] I thought I had more time.
I thought that Gregor did not
have the Sorcerer's Brigade
to reopen the tomb,
but I was wrong.
He has clearly transformed
the band formerly known
as Gregor's Hammer
into the Sorcerer's Brigade.
[Lysa]
Okay, so he has the sword, but
Wait, you said the tomb was empty.
Where is Attila's remains?
No bones, no body, completely empty.
Of course it was.
They had to bury the sword.
You see, when the keeper
of the sword is defeated,
they get assimilated,
body and soul,
into the sword's blade.
It increases the power.
So we're not just dealing
with Gregor anymore.
We are dealing with the spirit
of Attila the Hun
and whoever else
has ever wielded the sword.
But why Caucasylvia?
You know, if Gregor
has this much power,
why go after a little-known
country with a tiny army?
Are there other known
magical artifacts there?
Maybe resources that he needs?
The power of the sword
would have directed him
towards something
that would allow him
to accomplish his goals.
What that is in Caucasylvia,
I do not know.
[trumpet ringtone playing]
[phone vibrating]
What?
[suspensive music]
Right now?
Yeah.
That was DOSA.
They're at the United Nations
and they're requesting me.
What's DOSA?
The Department
of Statistical Anomalies.
It's a super secret government
agency that deals with magic.
They confront supernatural
threats and sometimes call us
to store and protect what they find.
Yes, but they usually don't call us
unless it's something
they can't handle.
Um, um, are you going alone?
You guys have done a great job, okay?
But when it comes to saving the world,
it's time for real Librarians.
Vikram knows Gregor
better than anyone.
Yeah, we've all just gone up
against him.
Come on.
It's just one more mission.
Please.
Listen
[adventurous music]
All right, you two,
you come with me.
You guys dig up whatever you can
on "Caucasylvania,"
the sword, Attila, Gregor, the works.
[magical swooshing]
[magical swooshing]
Sorry, no unauthorized visitors.
I'm a Librarian.
Of course, sir.
I saw Vikram try and use that.
Doesn't always work for him.
Took me a while to master it.
It's a little harder than it looks.
[Janis] Stone.
Janis Copeland.
I've been expecting you.
[Stone]
Mm-hmm. This is Vikram Chamberlain.
- This is--
- This must be Charlie.
I've heard much about you.
- Heard about me.
- Not much gets by DOSA.
- Mm. Not much.
- What have they told you?
Just that you were concerned
and you needed our help.
Defense systems all around the world
have just suddenly gone down.
Computers, satellites, missile systems
are failing everywhere.
In short, the nations of the world
are vulnerable and defenseless.
They've all been hacked?
[Janis] That's what they believe,
but we have some intel
that something strange,
possibly magic-related,
was going on in Caucasylvia.
[static humming]
[ominous music]
Delegates and ambassadors,
you have all accepted
my invitation today
because you are aware
that your countries
are now defenseless.
What you may not know
that the country of Caucasylvia,
as of today,
has long-range nuclear missiles.
I'm currently targeting
a major city
in every one of your countries--
[audience exclaiming and murmuring]
--but war can be avoided.
You have 12 hours to draft letters
of total and complete surrender to me
and pledge fealty.
Defy me and you will pay
a bitter price.
[audience exclaims]
We knew they were trying
to develop a nuclear program,
but we thought they were years away.
Sword must have sensed it.
Now we know
why Gregor chose Caucasylvia.
Nuclear capable
and easy to take over.
He's done it.
His demented dreams for world
domination have come true.
[tense music]
[magical swooshing]
All right.
We got just under 11 hours
to get the sword back
from Gregor into the Library
in order to save the world.
- Piece of cake.
- I like your attitude.
[Gregor] You idiot!
What is this femininity?
On every table,
I want black roses.
Black roses?
Where would we find--
Black, to show our power,
the roses to show our love.
And make sure they have thorns,
lots of thorns.
- He's not wearing the sword.
- That's bad?
It means
that when we find the sword,
we have a chance to steal it
without being
under his watchful eye.
This palace is enormous.
Could be anywhere.
[device beeping]
What the hell is that?
Uh, having studied the magic pendulum,
I was able to scientifically
recreate the energy detection
it uses on this app that I made.
It's worked quite well
in the past.
You scienced the magic.
Cassandra would love that.
You three, find out
where he's hiding the sword.
Charlie, you're with me.
We're gonna keep an eye on Gregor.
[rapid beeping]
Stairs.
[playful music]
[swishing]
Go.
Tell me about it.
[humming]
Hm. [sniffs] Mm.
Oh! Hello. [chuckles]
Quick question.
Do either one of you have a headache?
[dramatic music]
Because you will now.
You always carry chloroform on you?
- Girl's gotta be prepared.
- Fascinating.
[dramatic music]
Why is this still here?
Where's the new flag?
[foreboding music]
[Gregor]
Now, let's sample the wine.
[device beeping]
Okay, well, it's gotta be
around here somewhere.
Uh [radio jargon]
Ah. [clears throat]
Okay, come now. Chop, chop.
Put these on the table.
Thank you.
President Gregor would like
one black rose in there.
[mysterious music]
Now, I know a lot
about breaking into safes,
but that predates me.
Tubman & Sons from the 1830s.
Need an unusual key to unlock it.
Yeah, a Tubman key has got
complex grooves and edges.
Huh.
[Male Guard] It's them!
[Female Guard]
They took our clothes!
Hey!
Ah, and that's our time to leave.
[dramatic music]
Your generals report
that the weapons are live.
We fire the first round of missiles
after tonight's ball.
Destroy a few cities.
But what if they surrender first?
It matters not.
We must show our strength
and our will.
Millions would die.
Yes.
A glorious death in service
of our cause.
A splendid way
to end our celebration.
We have to warn everyone.
Hey! Who are you two?
You shouldn't be here.
I'm a Librarian.
I don't care who you are.
You are in a secured area,
and you are under arrest.
[choking]
I'm a Librarian.
I'm a Librarian.
You don't understand.
I'm a Librarian.
Mrs. A, we need a door now.
There must be some magical
artifacts we can use here
that can get us past the guards
and into the safe.
I don't know.
The power of the sword is unlike
anything I've ever seen.
It's blocking weaker magic.
Is that why when you tried
the "I'm a Librarian" thing,
it didn't work?
Unless you didn't do it right.
I did it-- I did it right.
I know how to do it.
I learned how to do it.
All right? It blocked me.
[trumpet ringtone playing]
[phone vibrating]
Stone.
What? Calm
Calm down.
[tense music]
I'm on my way.
What is it?
Copeland, she needs me back
at the U.N., alone.
You have to tell them.
They have to know that,
even if they surrender,
he plans on killing millions tonight.
I know, Charlie.
You guys keep working.
Find a solution.
I think we've got something.
It's been bugging me, right?
Ever since Stone told us that
if the sword's owner is defeated,
they're assimilated into it.
Because if you have the sword,
how can you possibly be defeated?
So Mr. Green asked me to help him
find everything we have
on the previous owners
of the blade.
It's the Sword of Mars, right?
So let's start with Mars
and the story of him and Venus.
Venus's husband Vulcan crafted
a magical net
and caught them
in an adulterous affair.
The gods then ridiculed Mars
for being defeated by love.
Jump forward to Attila the Hun,
the last owner before Gregor.
The story goes Attila married
a young woman named Ildico
on the eve of a planned attack
in 453 A.D.
The wedding celebration involved
Attila indulging heavily.
The next morning,
Attila was found dead
in the bridal chamber.
But wasn't the cause of death
some kind of internal bleeding
brought on by excessive drinking?
According to the Roman
chronicler, uh
- Marcellinus.
- Marcellinus. Thank you.
"Attila, King of the Huns
"and ravager of the provinces
of Europe,
"was pierced by the hand
and blade of his wife
shortly after their wedding."
So they were both defeated by love?
Precisely.
That is its blind spot.
The sword protects its owner
from all forms of attack.
Its Achilles' Heel is love.
So we just have to find someone
that Gregor loves?
Easy.
Mm.
[mystical music]
Oh.
- [Charlie] Yes.
- No.
No. No, no, no.
Hold on a second.
[Vikram] That's it.
You will appear at the ball as Anya.
You will convince him
that you are she.
The sword will not recognize
this as an attack
and we will be free to steal the Sword.
This is crazy talk.
You want me to pretend
to be someone,
someone that I don't know
anything about?
But someone
I know everything about.
Oh, I will train you
how to walk like her,
talk like her, think like her.
Oh, when I am done training you,
you will be Anya Besson.
[Lysa] [poor British accent]
Blimey. I'm Anya Besson.
My God, woman.
Anya is not some sort
of street urchin.
No. She is an aristocrat.
And for the last time,
it is not "Behson."
It is Besson. Hm? French roots.
French pronunciation.
- [Lysa] Ow!
- [Charlie] Then hold still.
[Lysa] Listen, Henry Higgins.
You want to start rain
in Spain-ing me
and I'm going to forget
the whole thing.
If I had any idea
what you were talking about,
I would reply with a witty retort.
Now, again.
[Lysa] Besson.
Better.
[Lysa] [as Anya]
What lovely and pleasant weather
we are having this season.
Hmm. A little overdoing it,
but much, much better.
Okay, so I think I got
the hair right.
[Lysa] Oh, okay.
[suspensive music]
It's not right?
Perfect.
You are her.
[emotional strings music]
Are you okay, sir?
Yes. Sorry.
It's just seeing her again,
seeing you as her,
it has moved me, beyond measure.
- Maybe this is a bad idea.
- Nonsense.
Keep in mind, Anya is elegant.
Refined. Hm?
Hm-hmm.
Sophisticated.
But impulsive, whimsical.
Charming.
And the kindest person
to walk the Earth.
Great. No, great. Easy-peasy.
[chuckles]
Copeland.
Thank you for coming.
You're gonna have to act fast.
We went through our entire database.
Every magical artifact failed.
Nothing was able to overcome
the power of the Sword of Mars.
All right, well, maybe we got
something back at the Library
that would help.
Nothing in your registry was able
to get the world's defenses
back online.
All right, wait, wait, wait, wait.
What did you mean when you said
I had to act fast?
You have to shut down the Library.
Disconnect it from this reality.
Protect all
of the magical artifacts
from whatever's about to happen.
They're going to be needed
to help rebuild
once the smoke
or the fallout clears.
No, there's got to be
another way, okay?
- We don't just give up.
- We're out of time.
Protect the Library while you can.
[suspensive music]
[The Beautiful Blue Danube playing]
I can't do this.
I'm too nervous.
[Vikram] Nonsense.
With these marvelous
communication devices
you created, hm, I'll be
in your ear the entire time.
[chuckles lightly]
Anya?
My dearest Bogdan, you look
as though you've seen a ghost.
- What deception is this?
- Deception?
No. I am as real as the pulse
in your fingertips.
Dance with me.
Remember, Anya is
an extremely graceful dancer.
[grunts]
How is it possible you are here? Now?
Uh, Vikram, he summoned me,
using black necromancy.
Oh.
But you see, I saw you weeks ago
through the scrying glass.
I was able to see everything.
I don't know who you are,
but you are not Anya Besson.
All right, then. Tell him this.
Once arriving to this future
When I arrived to this future,
Vikram bewitched me,
altering my voice, my visage.
His sorcery
kept me under his spell.
That is, until I discovered
you were here.
You expect me
to believe this fairy tale?
The spell broke when I knew
you were nearby.
[Vikram] "And I was able to escape."
And I was able to escape.
"Now I can be with you."
[Lysa] To be with you.
- [Vikram] "Bear your children."
- Ah, bear your children.
Bear my children?
Or adopt, maybe.
[gasps lightly]
Appeal to his vanity.
I would swim across the furthest
ocean to be with you, my love.
- Because you know
- She's found it.
[Vikram] Connor, go.
You will always have the key
to my heart.
Shall we dance?
[sneaky music]
When you need to break
into a secure room,
air vents are your best friend.
Horrible metal sphincter.
[magical zapping]
Ah!
Why is this happening?
The sword senses
someone other than Gregor
is trying to get it,
protecting itself.
But I thought, once Gregor
was smitten by love,
the sword's defenses would be down.
Ah, the defenses are only down
for the object of that love.
Which means Lysa's the only one
who could get it?
[static crackle]
Lysa, it is entirely up to you now.
[dramatic sting]
[ballroom song crescendos
and fades out]
[Gregor and Lysa chuckle]
If you'll excuse me.
Get this back in his pocket
before he realizes it's missing.
[Lysa] I don't think he's buying it.
[Charlie] You have to get him
to open that safe.
He's insane.
If he finds out that I'm pretending,
- he will kill me.
- Hey.
I'm your guardian, too.
I won't let anything happen to you.
[ominous music]
Hm!
Pray tell, my love, what is this?
Your favorite drink, my love.
Please.
Favorite drink?
What's her favorite drink?
Come on, you gotta know
what her favorite drink was.
I cannot recall her favorite drink.
- You can't get this wrong.
- [Gregor] Please, drink.
Tell me what I have brought you.
Surely you know the name
of your favorite drink.
- [chuckles nervously]
- [chuckles]
Hm.
[tense music]
Sugar, bitters, cognac, and absinthe.
A Sazerac, you remembered.
Anya, it is you!
It's her!
How could you possibly know that?
It's a family recipe.
Grandma used to make it
at Christmas.
- [Gregor] [laughing gleefully]
- [Lysa] [squeals]
- You are back.
- [chuckles]
I can't believe it.
- And the world is finally ours.
- Mm.
You have to get him
to open the safe.
I am so glad we are reunited.
It's just such a shame
that you weren't able
to retrieve the Sword of Mars
all those years ago,
like you had hoped.
And now we are stuck
in this ghastly future.
No, this future is wonderful.
You will see.
So much more to conquer.
This modern world
will be more fun to rule.
And you do believe
you could conquer it?
Would you like to know a secret?
- You know I adore secrets.
- I have the Sword of Mars.
It is finally mine.
And now no one can stop me.
You are teasing me.
You do not have the sword.
- I do.
- I don't believe you.
I must see it with my own eyes.
[mild suspensive music]
Then
see it you shall.
[sneaky music]
I don't trust modern security.
So I had them bring this safe
from a museum.
Exactly like the one I had
back in Belgrade.
[light dramatic music]
Where is my key? I had it.
I
thought I felt it
whilst we were dancing.
[mysterious music]
The Sword of Mars.
Unparalleled power.
Unsurpassed strength.
- It's beautiful.
- [Gregor] "Beautiful"?
It's magnificent.
The power of the greatest
warriors of all time
contained within its steel.
May I hold it?
What?
The sword.
May I hold it?
Why?
You and the sword are one.
To hold the sword
is to hold your soul.
Your heart.
You wouldn't deny me
your heart now, would you?
[music intensifies]
Close your eyes.
Why?
It's a surprise.
You are incorrigible.
Hm.
Uh
[guard shouts]
Get to the door.
[tense music]
Guards!
[gasps]
Traitors!
Sword, come!
[magical humming and swishing]
Vikram, you used this woman
to betray me.
You underestimate me.
Arrest them.
No, no, no, no.
We'll hang them for treason.
Never thought much of you, Gregor.
But I didn't think
that you were a coward.
You and I are from another time.
A more noble time.
May we not finish this in the old way?
[chuckles cynically]
[snaps fingers]
You want to battle me?
Vikram.
I have the Sword of Mars,
and you have
What's that? Walking stick?
[villainous laughing]
That really is the most
hideous laugh, Gregor.
Honestly, you really should work
on that.
Come, little boy.
Let me teach you
how real men fight.
[dramatic music]
I tire of this foolishness.
Up, up, up, up, up.
[music swells]
[grunts, groans]
I should have ended you
[magical swoosh]
[Stone] Woah, woah, that's
That doesn't seem fair.
Sorry, but who are you?
Me? Oh, no, I'm just a Librarian.
Well, Librarian,
this is not your concern.
This battle is between Vikram and I.
I totally agree,
but it should be a fair fight.
Don't you think?
Cal? [whistles]
[group exclaiming]
- Is that Excalibur?
- Yeah.
Whistle to it.
[whistles]
[magical swishing]
[metallic impact bang]
[triumphant choir music]
Where were we?
[epic music]
Our swords are well matched.
But you, however, are not my equal.
[effort grunts]
[grunting]
[panting]
[shouts]
Pardon me.
[grunting]
[ballroom attendees gasping]
You thought you could fool me
with a fake Anya.
You're pathetic.
Why not? I fooled you
with the real Anya for years.
[grunting]
[Stone] Go, go!
[Gregor] Lies!
[grunting]
She and I had a power
greater than anything
you have ever known.
[grunting]
Greater than any magic you stole.
Stronger than any army you amassed.
[grunting] [music crescendos]
It's called love, Gregor.
True love.
It seems my life is now
in your hands.
Do you intend to kill me, Librarian?
Unfortunately for you,
your fate was sealed
the day you took the Sword of Mars.
[magical swishing]
[dramatic music]
No!
Are you all right?
Indeed.
Thanks to Excalibur.
I think it's time
we put this in the Library,
where it belongs.
[music crescendos]
[jovial music]
[Lysa] Stop.
[Vikram] All for one and one for all.
We fight for gold? Nay, love!
Ha!
[whistles]
Do you have to take him?
I was just getting the hang of it.
Look, I promise
I'll return him to the Library
with all the other artifacts.
[Stone] No, no, no.
He is not an artifact.
Excalibur's more
than just a magic object.
[Excalibur chirps]
He's a Guardian.
[Excalibur squeaks]
[whistles] Go on.
[Excalibur whines]
Thank you for letting us join
one last adventure.
The pleasure is mine.
However, I have to tell you,
at first I thought you guys
were just going to be
another problem
I had to deal with, huh?
But you made me look good.
I couldn't have made a better choice.
So you're saying that,
if it was up to you,
then we wouldn't have to leave?
That we could remain a team?
That's not up to me.
You know that.
It's up to the Library.
[low mystical humming]
[pleasant tranquil music]
You might want to take another look
at those plane tickets
that I gave you guys.
[magical swishing]
[Connor] "You have been selected"
"For a prestigious position"
[Charlie]
"At the Metropolitan Public Library."
Does this mean
The Library has made a decision.
You've shown the ability
to protect the Library's secrets.
Your passion
for the Library's mission,
it has been recognized.
This means I don't have to take
that awful teaching job.
- [women chuckle]
- [Stone] You
Well, you've learned not only
to appreciate the past,
but to protect it.
The Library has recognized
your willingness to exchange
fortune, riches,
for a more noble, selfless cause.
And you did the one thing that
only a true Librarian can do.
You saved the world.
Wait. This does mean
I'm a Guardian, right?
My dear, you thought you'd been
rejected by the Library
when nothing could be further
from the truth.
Charlie.
You've always been a Guardian.
The Library was just trying
to find the right place for you.
And that place, it's here.
We offer you a life of mystery,
and misery, a life of loneliness,
and adventure,
but, most importantly,
a chance to make a difference,
a chance to save the world
every day of the week
and twice before Friday.
Are you in?
[All] Yes.
[laughing gleefully]
[Stone] Did you know that
[Connor]
I won't let you down, man.
I won't let you down.
Does this mean
that I won't be reassigned
to the Main Library
as a useless relic?
Oh, I think the world
could use another
exceptional Librarian.
Just promise me you won't put
any more artifacts in the Annex.
Oh, I promise.
- But this goes back
- Damn it.
As soon as I've done
one last thing.
[emotional music]
[magical swishing]
Vikram.
Is that you?
Is this a dream?
A reverie of the heart?
It is not a dream, my love.
I believed you dead.
Are you speaking to me
from the beyond?
I come to you from beyond.
Beyond time.
But, no, I am not dead.
Then come to me.
Step through this haze.
Return to me.
I cannot.
You have always been
my greatest magic.
And I am sorry
for ever having left you alone.
Oh, my darling.
[chuckles] [baby coos]
I am not alone.
You see? [chuckles]
[Vikram chuckles]
And who is this?
Oh.
This is your, our
great, great, great,
great granddaughter.
Lysa.
Well
I can see that you are
not alone either.
Goodbye, my love.
Goodbye, my heart.
[magical swishing]
[music crescendos]
[magical swish]
So are we ready for a lifetime
of mystery and misery,
of loneliness and adventure,
but, most of all,
a chance to make a difference?
[Charlie] Ooh. Venice.
[Lysa] I hear it's pretty magic
this time of year.
[Merlin]
This is not the end of the story.
Does a story ever truly end?
Old characters leave the stage.
New characters step into the light.
Sometimes old characters return.
You may not recognize us at first.
But you know my name.
I am Merlin.
[dramatic sting]
[adventurous music]
[zapping]
[rapid beeping]
