We were fortunate
enough to stay here,
so we should make sure
it's clean before we leave.

to the Mawaki Site
while it's still light out.

Cygnus constellation?
[Ganta] Mhm.
[Isaki] Crazy to think
that somebody found
and connected different
constellations
out of this mass of stars.
Were people from the
past just really bored?
[Ganta] Yeah, maybe so.
[Isaki chuckles]
Guess they were
the same as us then.
You know,
I bet whoever created
the constellations
struggled to get
sleep, just like us.
And stared up at
the stars all night.
Back 6,000 years ago.
All the way to today.
[alarm beeping]
[Ganta] It's time.

Next, we'll take a picture
from inside the pillars.

[Isaki sighs]

of our adventure, isn't it?

Back when I was a kid,
my family rarely ever
took vacations.
But one summer we took a trip
up to the mountains together.
That night, my mom was
leading me along by the hand
when she pointed up at the sky
and said, "The sky's beautiful."
I was frightened.
There were so many
stars in the sky
it was, I dunno,
like I was being shown
some cosmic truth
that really freaked me out.
I couldn't manage to say
anything in response.
And then, you know,
things got awkward.
We never went on another
family trip after that.
Gosh, I'm so sorry.
There wasn't really
a point to that story.
[Isaki chuckles]
Well, that's the first
time I've heard you say
anything about your mother.
[Ganta] I don't normally
talk about her.

You know, when I was a kid,
the idea of black holes
freaked me out.
Like I kept thinking
there was one out there
getting bigger and bigger.
Until eventually it would

when we first met each other?

ghost of the Astronomy Club

To think that place was nothing
but a warehouse at first.
Remember how hard we worked
to haul that old sofa up there?
[Ganta] We totally renovated it,
and then Nurse Kurashiki
found out.
And then Twosie joined us.
And somehow we became
the Astronomy Club.
It's funny, since neither
of us knew anything
about the stars.

But Yui taught us a lot.
She was really nice,
even though I thought
she was kind of scary at first.
Those were good times.
Looking back, we
created so many memories.
Like the night of
the seaside camp,
when we snuck out to take
pictures at Chirihama beach.
And the port festival.
We watched the fireworks
with everyone from the roof.
And the meteor shower party.
Well, that got canceled.
But let's have another one.
Yeah, for sure.
The training camp feels
like it happened ages ago.
We went so many places.
Mitsukejima.
Koji Coast.
Flathead Watchtower.
Kahokugata Sunflower Fields.
Rokkosaki Lighthouse.
It took us a long time
to get to that lighthouse.
We walked around
what felt like miles,
struggling to find it.
I remember on the way
back from the rice terraces,
I said I wanted
to eat some abalone,
and then your face turned white.
Oh yeah, hard to forget.
And finally
the Mawaki Site.
The finish line
of our adventure.
[Ganta sighs]
A day I'll never forget.

So the new term
starts next week.
Oh hey, we should have a
party in the observatory!
You know, to celebrate your
picture that won the contest.
We can invite Yui, and
maybe Nurse Kurashiki, and-

always feel wide awake.
I get in my bed and try to
doze off, but I can't sleep.
And time just passes by.
At around 5AM,
I hear the sound of the
newspaper delivery bike,
and the elderly neighbor
across the way
opening up their shutter door.
Then the sky gets bright.
And light seeps in
through the curtain.
The morning comes and I prepare
for another day of despair.

I never really gave you
a proper reply, did I?
[Ganta chuckles]
Well, with all my heart,
I also feel
[Isaki yawning]
