Wolf King (2025) s02e01 Episode Script
The Wolf in Waiting
1
-[mysterious music playing]
-[fire roaring]
[birds cawing]
[foreboding music playing]
[growls lowly]
[ominous notes play]
-[clears throat] My king…
-[King Leopold] Mm.
[grunts]
[wind whistling]
Our supplies run low since the siege.
[King Leopold growls]
-[dramatic music playing]
-[both screaming]
You're not thinking of escaping
like the Wolf?
[roars angrily]
-[electricity crackling]
-[Vanmorten snarls]
Escape? From my own keep?
You forget, Vanmorten,
there are irons in fires.
Lucas is still free, and word will have
already reached our friends in the south.
Our enemies can have my crown
when they prize it
from my cold, dead claws!
[roars]
[artist] Oh. Hmm.
Any sign of the would-be king?
No. I do try to guide Drew,
show him how to rule,
but he's his father's son.
[clock hand clicks]
[King Leopold roaring in distance]
Some people just don't know
when they're beaten, eh?
Let him roar. He's going nowhere.
I thought I might find you here.
I'll be happier
when all the Lions are gone.
If there are ever
any Lion Troopers left in Highcliff,
my men will catch them.
You should get to your council meeting.
Right. I'd hate to miss that.
-[woman] Stop, thief!
-[Drew] What?
Drew?
[man] He's with the Lions!
We've got soldiers for that.
-[clock hand ticking]
-I've still got time.
-[electricity crackling]
-[Drew grunts, yells]
[yelling]
-[grunting]
-[suspenseful music playing]
[grunting]
[Drew yelling faintly]
[snorts, startles]
[grunting softly]
[bell tolling]
Oh! I'm late!
[grunting, panting]
[yells]
[grunting]
Wait!
Trent?
[mysterious music plays]
[gasps]
[suspenseful music resumes]
Trent!
Trent! Wait!
[panting]
[grunts]
[pants, grunts]
[yells]
[air whistling]
[grunts]
[both grunt]
[panting]
-Trent!
-Trent? Who's Trent? Get off me!
[guard] Stand back, Your Majesty!
We've got it!
[ominous music plays]
[sighs]
-[bell tolling]
-[gasps]
[groans]
Not again!
[bell continues tolling]
[eerie music plays]
-[clock hand ticks]
-[Hector gasps]
[Hector panting]
[bell tolling]
[suspenseful music playing]
-[bell continues tolling]
-[Drew pants, grunts]
[Gretchen straining]
[Whitley] That's it.
Embrace the fox, Gretchen.
[groans] I can't!
-Come on, just let the beast-- Whoa!
-[crash]
-[electricity crackles]
-[Drew screams]
[laughing] That's more like it!
[whimpering]
Whoa, since when did Gretchen have claws?
Since she asked me
to show her how to use her Werepowers.
She wants to protect herself.
Do not tell my father.
Don't worry.
He'll be too busy lecturing me. [chuckles]
Good morning to Westland's
youngest ever Lord Chancellor. [chuckles]
I still can't believe
you gave me that title.
Why? I trust you with my life.
There are wiser and older Werelords
who were expecting the honor.
Duke Bergan, for example.
[Duke Bergan exhales]
They're both late.
And a Lord Chancellor
really should know better.
[Drew wails, grunts]
[laughing] We do have staircases,
you know.
Yeah, I was running late.
Had to catch a Lion Trooper.
What have I told you
about keeping out of trouble?
Both of you.
Ah, sorry, Duke Bergan.
You should be up here ruling,
not down there scrapping.
But Leopold's still
prowling around the keep.
And Lucas is out there… somewhere.
I've not forgotten about Lucas.
I'm his mother too.
Sorry, Your Maj-- Uh… Mother.
It's just,
I won't rest until I know the city's safe.
Then leave the City Watch to their work.
Remember your duty.
[Drew sighs]
Drew, the people have only
just got their Wolf King back.
They'll want you to at least
survive to your coronation.
So, what fun do we have in store
for our young king?
[chuckles expectantly]
[man] Treaties to be signed,
securing the allegiance of Werelords
across the Seven Realms.
You need to work
on your definition of fun, Manfred.
[chuckling]
Is everything all right, Your Majesty?
-[King Leopold roaring in distance]
-Ah, Leopold.
So long as the Lion clings to the throne,
Drew is not yet our king.
We must all stay alert.
Who knows where the next threat
will come from?
[ominous music playing]
-[armor clanging]
-[troops marching]
Ready the fleet.
[groaning softly]
Oh, that's it, Your Highness.
Ferocious. Perhaps a little howl?
Remind me why this is a good idea.
Your first portrait is a big deal.
Catching Lucas is a big deal.
-This is just a distraction.
-[artist] Oh, magnificent.
You must learn how to deputize, Drew.
Then you can focus on your real duty.
To steady the kingdom. Find a queen.
A queen?
[Whitley exhales]
The people will expect you to marry.
-[Whitley gasps]
-[Drew] Already?
I remember your father
needed a little persuasion too.
But we were happy.
Gretchen would be a good choice.
[Whitley grunts]
-Gretchen?
-The people do love her.
Do I get a say?
Duty first.
[sighs] There's that word again.
-Aww. Did you beat the scary wooden Lion?
-So heroic.
Let's leave them to it.
-Wanna train some more?
-Uh, actually, Gretchen…
I… was… wondering--
Uh, Drew was wondering
if you'd like to join him for a stroll?
Right, right. A stroll.
-There's something I have to ask you.
-[gasps]
[Drew grunts]
-[sword clattering]
-My father won't allow it.
-[Gretchen gasps]
-Um, he doesn't want you roaming the city.
Which is why I need you
to step in, Hector.
-[Hector wails, grunts]
-See? I'm deputizing.
Give me ferocious.
Um…
Oh, okay.
Right, pal?
[sighs]
[both laughing]
Wait. This thing is heavy.
I'm not sure I can… hold it. [coughs]
[indistinct chattering]
-So, where do you wanna go?
-I don't know. You know it better than me.
-Oh! Good morning, Your Majesty.
-[Drew] Hm? [chuckles awkwardly]
[laughs] You know, you are allowed
to say hello to your subjects.
They don't bite.
Still feels weird. I'm better with sheep.
[Gretchen laughs]
[ominous music plays]
You're going to make the strangest king,
but you're all the better for it.
-Roses for the Rose of Hedgemoor.
-Oh, how lovely. Thank you.
See? You belong in the capital.
I don't.
I don't either. Not really.
Except for the fact my parents are here.
They are?
I thought--
[Gretchen] They're buried together
in the Gardens of the Dead.
They always were devoted to each other.
So, Amelie and Hector
reckon I need to marry.
Oh?
Yeah. Um, apparently,
a king needs a queen.
-Good for the realms and stuff.
-And?
I suppose what I'm saying is… Would you?
Would I what?
You know, if I asked you.
Asked me what?
Um… [sighs]
Seriously, you're gonna make me say it?
"Hey, Gretchen. Wanna be my queen?"
I guess so?
I… I mean, yeah?
How could I refuse?
Is that a yes?
-What do you think?
-Uh… I don't know.
You just made me propose to myself!
-Hey, this isn't easy for me.
-Don't worry. You're doing great.
-Am I?
-No!
Ow!
[spitting]
[exhales] Nice one.
[ominous music plays]
[crows cawing]
[sobbing]
[panting]
[sobbing]
I wish you were still here.
-Oh, but I am.
-[screams]
[chuckles]
-You'll think me a hopeless romantic.
-[Gretchen gasps]
-[laughs sinisterly]
-[Gretchen screams]
But I have decided we should elope.
[gasps]
Take her away!
No! Drew!
[sighs dejectedly]
What's wrong? Lost your queen?
[Gretchen screaming] Drew!
Gretchen!
[Gretchen] Drew!
-[both panting]
-[suspenseful music playing]
Gretchen!
[running footsteps approaching]
Gretchen?
-[yelling]
-[Whitley] Drew!
[Drew grunting]
[music intensifies]
[both grunting]
Where is she?
You're too late, Wolf.
The prince has her now.
Look out, Drew! That's silver!
[Whitley and trooper grunting]
[trooper panting]
[Drew and trooper grunting]
[groans]
[grunts]
[grunts]
[trooper laughs menacingly, yells]
[both grunting]
[cries out]
[laughs menacingly]
[Whitley yells]
[trooper grunts confusedly]
-[yells battle cry]
-Look out! No!
-[Drew grunts]
-[trooper screaming]
It's really not so hard
to stay out of troub--
-[trooper screaming]
-[Hector gasps]
-[body crashes]
-Oh.
Right.
-[both panting]
-[suspenseful music playing]
If you misplaced a Lion Trooper,
I found him.
I took the liberty
of bringing the body indoors.
-Let me call the City Watch.

What do you mean, "Not yet"?
This is the kind of thing

This is not how a king behaves.
Drew, we need to tell my father.
You don't understand.
It's my fault Gretchen's gone.
-Gretchen's missing?
-Lucas took her.
He's been here all along,
waiting for his chance.
The Lions are planning something,
and we need to work out what.
Hector, there's only
one way we'll find out.
[ominous music plays]
You don't know what you're asking.
I'm so sorry. If there was any other way…
-I swore I'd never do it again.
-What are you two on about?
We need Hector to commune
with the Lion Trooper.
It's our only chance.
Necromancy? That's strictly forbidden.
If my father finds out--
He won't find out.
[mysterious music playing]
[mystical chiming]
[Whitley gasps]
[mystical chiming]
[Hector humming]
Did it work?
[terrifying music building]
[growls menacingly]
[Drew gasps]
Stop.
Stop!
[ghostly groaning]
Do as your master commands!
[exhales weakly]
Tell me,
where has Prince Lucas gone with Gretchen?
South, Master.
South, where darkness
awaits the Wolf and his friends.
You speak only when spoken to.
What is Lucas planning?
[laughs menacingly] Your downfall!
If they're heading south,
they're taking Talstaff Road.
-If we hurry, we can catch them.
-Wait!
Nobody can leave the city,
on my father's orders.
Leave it to me. I just need

-Mistake? I'm rescuing Gretchen.
I'm stopping Lucas. Don't you trust me?
Of course I trust you,

[Hector] Go!
-[gate clangs]
-[Whitley] Come on!
Hurry!
[guard] Quick! Get the gate open!
Goodbye, my friend.
Hector, what have you done?
[sighs]
[trooper] Before the new moon rises,
death will come
for the young king and his friends.
And some will not survive
