Baba Korga

1
-[mysterious music playing]
-[metallic clinking]
[birds cawing]
[uneasy music playing]
[horse hooves thumping rapidly]
[sighs] I hate this
never-ending countryside.
Father should have it burned.
[Gretchen grunting, yells angrily]
-[trooper groans]
-[Vankaskan yells]
[horse neighs]
I trust the Lady Gretchen
is feeling calmer this morning?
-[Gretchen] I said I'm not hungry!
-[trooper wails]
[items crash]
There are ways
in which she could be… managed.
[ominous music plays]
That won't be necessary.
Lady Gretchen,
I trust you're happy with your carriage?
We stole the very best for you.
A rose for the Rose of Hedgemoor.
These reminded me of your beauty,
of your charm, your sweetness.
Get out.
You don't give me orders!
[inhales shakily]
Like it or not, your future lies with me.
I was raised to be a queen, not a hostage.
And that's why we need you.
You and I will rule together
once I've introduced the Wolf
to my little silver friend.
[ominous music playing]
[laughs menacingly]
Cat got your tongue?
I'll never be your queen.
If you don't cooperate,
well, let's just say my magister
is looking for an excuse
to practice his necromancy.
-[Gretchen gasps]
-[laughs evilly]
[groans] Finally. Ha!
[horse whinnies]
[uneasy music playing]
[eerie music plays]
[horse hooves thundering]
[suspenseful music playing]
Come on.
Come on, Chancer!
[Drew shouts]
[grunting]
[Chancer neighs]
Come on, Chancer! Whoo!
[suspenseful music continues]
[shouts]
[grunts]
-[panting] Come on. Keep up.
-We're going as fast as we can!
No, we're going as fast as you can.
[Chancer neighs, snorting]
Right. That's it.
-[Whitley grunts]
-[Drew pants]
What are you doing?
We've been riding all night.
Chancer needs food and water.
[Chancer snorts]
We can't stop now.
We'll never catch Lucas at this rate.
Well, maybe you should have brought
your royal carriage, my king.
[exhales]
[sighs] A king keeps his friends safe.
It's my fault Gretchen--
You can't blame yourself.
You did nothing wrong. Did you?
[sighs] I guess I… I pushed her away.
And Lucas was waiting.
Gretchen's a survivor.
[sighs] I hope so.
She just seems so
helpless.
[sighs] If you say so.
You know, refined and graceful.
[Whitley sighs]
-All the things a queen is meant to be.
-You forgot cunning.
-What?
-Look.
[intriguing music playing]
[gasps] The Rose of Hedgemoor.
She's leaving us a trail.
-[grunts] Come on, Chancer!
-[Chancer neighs]
Hold on! Wait up!
[Vankaskan shouts]
[horse neighs]
[frightening sting]
You disappoint me. They were a gift.
-[grunts angrily]
-My father was right.
There really is only one way
to control a willful queen.
Your father is a monster.
That's funny. My mother never complained.
And neither will you.
Vankaskan! Your patient is waiting!
[breathes shakily]
Vankaskan! [gasps]
-[Gretchen screams]
-[cries out] My face!
[Vankaskan yells]
[groaning in pain, gasps]
[Gretchen gasps, grunts]
[yelps]
-[Lucas growls]
-[Gretchen screams]
-[roars]
-[Gretchen wails]
-[Gretchen screams]
-[Lucas grunts, moans]
[whimpers, screams]
[grunting, panting]
[growls] Don't just stand there.
After her!
[Lucas] No, no, no!
-[electricity crackling]
-[Lucas growling]
-[dramatic music playing]
-[roars] This is between her and me!
[growling]
[Gretchen panting]
[panicked breaths]
[Lucas growling]
Whoa! [sobbing]
[thrilling music playing]
[screams]
[yells]
[grunts]
[Lucas cries out]
-[body thuds]
-[Gretchen chuckles]
[growls]
[grunts]
[growls]
[roars]
[gasps]
[growls] Do you honestly expect to survive
out here alone, Princess?
-[Gretchen clears throat]
-[growls]
[growls]
[air whooshing]
[grunting in distress]
Looking for me?
[roars]
-You must feel very silly… [grunts]
-[Lucas growls]
…to be outfoxed
by a girl. [chuckles]
[growls] Guards!
[Gretchen grunts]
[panting]
-[cries out]
-[unsettling music playing]
Fear not, Princess.
-You're in excellent hands.
-[Gretchen whimpering]
[laughing menacingly]
[Gretchen grunting]
[shouting]
[Vankaskan yells]
[grunts]
-[yelps]
-[blade rings]
Well? After her!
[Gretchen grunting]
[trooper and Gretchen grunting]
[huffs] End this.
-[Gretchen screams]
-[Vankaskan laughs evilly]
[trooper screaming]
Ugh.
[Gretchen yelps]
[straining]
[groans] Such a waste.
Of course, I may yet have a use for him.
[scoffs] Do what you must, but quickly.
[moaning]
[unsettling music playing]
[gasps]
[grunting]
[ominous music plays]
[gasps, muffles cry]
I hope no one is foolish enough
to follow your trail.
They can expect a very lively reception.
-[horse neighs loudly]
-[grunts]
[seagulls cawing]
How many times? I've told you all I know.
But why?
Why did you help Drew and Whitley escape
in the first place?
"Escape"? They're not prisoners.
Hector swore he would stay out of trouble.
Or perhaps my orders don't matter to you,
"Lord Chancellor."
-Uh… I--
-Perhaps he knew better than to stop them.
Yes. Besides,
if anyone can catch Lucas, it's Drew.
[growls lowly] Broghan, prepare
the Woodland Watch to go after them.
Bring back Whitley,
Drew, and our future queen.
Yes, Father.
[Manfred] Hector,
are you sure there's nothing else
you want to share with the Council?
[Hector] Mm-mm.
Such as… how you're so sure
that Prince Lucas is heading south?
[exhales nervously]
Enough. You are berating this boy
simply for helping a friend.
[Duke Bergan] If Hector is withholding
information, then we need…
-[ominous sting]
-[gasps]
[undead trooper] The Wolf shall fall.
[whimpering fearfully]
Hector?
Hector!
[ominous music fades]
Very well. You may stay in Highcliff.
But you must surrender your post
as Lord Chancellor.
-Bergan!
-It's all right.
I understand. I… I'm not to be trusted.
I shall, uh, burden you no more
with my presence.
Perhaps you'd like to polish it first?
[Duke Bergan sighs]
[gasps]
Vincent, what are you doing?
[chuckles] Hello, brother.
-[liquid sloshes]
-Careful, Ringlin.
We must show our respect
to the Baron of Redmire.
Well, did you miss me?
-[suspenseful music playing]
-[Drew and Whitley panting]
[Whitley] See any?
The last rose was a mile back.
We're never gonna find any now.
Ah! Star Sage.
Never seen so many in one place.
We used to grow it on the farm.
It's supposed to bring luck.
Yeah, you look pretty lucky.
Sure. Make fun of the farm boy.
[laughs] I was joking.
Drew!
[sighs] I need a lot more than luck
to pass myself off as a king.
Hector was right.
I made all the wrong choices.
-I can't even catch one Lion.
-Then you don't see what I see.
-[faint coughing, chanting]
-Wait.
Oh, not again. Stop, stop.
[groans] Please, old woman. Leave me be.
Who are you calling old?
Even your beard has wrinkles.
[laughs softly]
[Whitley] They must be Romari.
-Who?
-Romari.
Fortune tellers from the Longridings.
-[old woman] You two!
-[both gasp]
[old woman] Are you going to help me
or just stand there?
[Whitley splutters]
We'd love to help, Miss…
Baba Korga.
Um…
Hold him.
[shushes gently] Here.
A little more, a little more. Yes.
-Yes.
-Uh… We'd love to stay, but--
Drew, look.
[Drew gasps]
Is that a bite mark?
And now,
we pray to the Wolf.
[metal clinking]
Uh…
Oh, yes.
This will be perfect for the party.
Um, how are you paying for this party?
Come, little brother.
As Baron of Redmire,
I am expected to entertain.
Um, but… but you're not the Baron.
[chuckles] I am.
For now. [chuckles]
You really think that title should go
to a weak little magister like you?
Better than a preening, arrogant--
-[gasps]
-The Wolf shall fall.
[whimpering]
You just focus on your fusty old books
and leave the money to me.
I've got it all planned out.
When my inheritance is spent… [chuckles]
…I'll just use yours.
[laughing boisterously]
[mysterious music playing]
[Baba Korga and Romari chanting]
By tooth and claw, by heart and might
He protects the weak, he rules the night
Friends will follow, foes shall fall
Hail the Wolf, in the moon's thrall
[humming to mimic wolf howl]
[Romari humming to mimic wolf howl]
[old man sputtering]
[groans]
It's slowing the infection,
but I can't stop it.
What did this to him?
The bite of the dead man walking.
They move, but don't breathe.
Look, but don't see.
It killed our horse and then turned on us.
What did?
[Whitley gasps]
Prince Lucas's guard.
Where did he attack? Where is he?
A short way down the road,
but you are not listening.
It cannot be stopped.
You can't kill what is already dead.
Wanna bet?
-[indistinct chattering]
-[Hector clears throat]
[grunting]
[Vincent laughing]
Thank you for coming. Mind how you go.
-[guest] Thank you, Vincent.
-Safe travels.
-This room is wrecked.
-[Vincent sighs happily, slurps]
This is the life I was born to,
and I intend to enjoy it.
Oh, which reminds me… Your resignation?
Officially handing Redmire over to me.
Go ahead, take it.
If not for me, do it for Father.
Do not talk about my father.
Our father.
And I will talk about him how I please.
Why do you think he sent you
to become a magister?
Because you were weak.
You will always be weak and afraid.
[Hector wails, grunts]
[Vincent gasps]
[gasps] I overreacted.
-Ah. What are you hiding?
-[Hector] Please…
[Vincent laughing]
-It's not what it looks like.
-It's exactly what it looks like.
Communing with the dead?
We both know that's forbidden.
If anyone found out what you've done here,
you'd be banished.
For life.
-[both panting]
-[suspenseful music playing]
[Whitley grunts]
[Drew grunts]
[Drew cries out]
[yells angrily] What are we doing?
He could be anywhere.
We'll find him.
We need a plan. A king should have a plan.
I never think. I just act. [sighs]
-What are you doing?
-It's for luck.
Star Sage has amazing healing powers.
It may have grown on a farm,
but it can work miracles.
-[Drew grunts]
-Achieve greatness.
-Just like you.
-[Drew chuckles]
-[whispering] Over there.
-[gasps]
Careful.
-[melancholy music playing]
-[old man groaning weakly]
We can do no more.
Be at peace.
[sighs emotionally]
-[growls]
-[Baba Korga gasps]
[growling]
-Stay back.
-[Romari whimpering]
[growling]
[Romari wailing]
-[roars]
-[gasps]
[roaring]
Wait.
[whimpers] No! No!
[foreboding music playing]
[Drew breathing heavily]
What?
[roars]
[gasps] Whitley!
[Whitley grunting]
Serve Lion. Kill Wolf.
What is it?
Looks like necromancy.
Whitley, don't get too close.
Wolf must die.
[Whitley grunting]
No!
[undead old man growling]
Sorry.
[undead old man cries out]
[roars]
[growls]
[breathing heavily]
-[undead trooper growling]
-[Drew grunting]
-My sword!
-What?
-[growls]
-Find my sword!
[Whitley panting]
[gasps]
-[roars]
-Drew!
Yeah. Bit busy here!
[Whitley panting]
[grunts]
Drew!
[undead trooper screams]
When I say "duck," you duck!
-What?
-Duck!
[both panting]
Oh…
Only a magister could do this.
-Vankaskan.
-If you're right, we're in trouble.
[eerie music playing]
-[Baba Korga] Come on.
-[Drew groans]
-A little bit. Yes, yes.
-[Drew groans]
Keep drinking.
I know. Star Sage, right?
The Wolf is a quick learner.
[Drew coughs]
You know what I am?
We are not fortune tellers.
We divine the truth from lies.
I see you, Wolf.
Afraid. Uncertain.
Many dangers ahead.
Believe me, I know.
But you think you are alone.
That is where you are wrong.
-Your friends have their own struggles…
-[mystical music playing]
…their own secrets.
Each feels lost in their own battles,
but each is stronger than they know.
All of you are better together,
united by truth and love.
What else is there?
Truth and love.
[Drew sighs]
Hey.
Uh… I've never said this to anyone,
and I know I'm not good with words, but--
-You're shivering. What's wrong?
-Nothing. Just… just cold.
Right.
Just…
I wanted to… I needed to tell you--
What we need is sleep.
We have to leave at first light.
[breathing shakily]
Right.
Good night, then.
[Baba Korga] Truth and love.
What else is there?
[ominous music plays]
[closing theme music playing]
[music fades out]
