Odwilz (2022) s02e03 Episode Script

Season 2, Episode 3

[tense music playing]
[Trepa] Goddamn it, Kasia,
this is fucking mess.
Look at you.
You're completely drunk right now.
How exactly are you going
to question him like this?
Trepa, can you pull over? Please.
I don't feel good. [gags]
[retches, then coughs]
[pensive music playing]
Get back in.
Listen, I know what it looks like.
However, we knew we had to step in--
Save the excuses for Szymanski.
We saw the suspect inside of the
club, so-- Then we followed him.
So?
You know about Radwan?
-No.
-Then why the fuck was he there?
All right.
If you wanna save your ass,
you've got about 20 minutes
before Szymanski gets here.
Go speak to Radwan.
But turn off the camera.
[tense music playing]
[Trepa exhales]
Nice job.
One thing, though
[door closes nearby]
You hungry?
You gonna talk?
Why the fuck were you there?
It's just you and me.
So, uh
Are you saying anything?
[tense music playing]
[sighs]
Okay. You're undercover, right?
Hm?
Unofficially?
I needed a job
once I got kicked off the force.
Molski, though?
[Zawieja scoffs softly]
The money's good.
Radwan.
I've seen the footage.
You and Wojtek
with those young girls.
That was why he did it.
Why Wojtek blew his brains out.
And now, just like that,
you're working for him? For Molski?
[inhales sharply]
[dramatic music playing]
Okay. Oliwier Galewski.
What do you know?
Hm?
The innocent boy who was murdered.
I'm waiting. Let's hear it.
You've been drinking.
I'm not sure you should be
interrogating people
in your current state.
Kasia, everything good?
Hm?
They're here.
[beeps on]
What the fuck are you doing?
-We were about to begin.
-Yeah?
Seems to me
that you've just finished.
[Zawieja] How long
have you been working for him?
How long have you been
Molski's driver?
You know the last case we worked on?
The Kosinski girl.
Everyone thought she was dead.
But you never
stopped looking for her.
Time's up now.
Zawieja, you gotta go.
You stay here.
[groans]
[door closes]
-[theme music playing]

THE THAW
[Pietrzak] They saw a suspect that's
part of a murder investigation.
He was acting strange, so they
had every right to follow him.
-[Szymanski] Mm-hm
-[knocking on door]
And along with that,
they made a major arrest.
[door closes]
[Pietrzak]
Yes, because Molski pulled a gun.
[Szymanski] Of course.
And this club?
You guys just happened to be there?
Hm?
-Were you drinking?
-No.
I was driving.
And you didn't question him
in the club because?
Well, we wanted to make sure
we had enough evidence.
Surveillance was the only option.
Mm-hm
And someone
authorized you to do this, right?
Yes. We spoke on the phone,
and I cleared it for them.
Is there any record of that call?
[sighs] Here's my damn phone.
They were doing their job.
We'll question the detainees
in the morning, and speak to the D.A.
If we have the grounds,
we'll charge them.
[Szymanski] Okay.
But the next time
you have interrogation,
you shouldn't turn off the camera.
-Listen--
-All right.
-Are we done?
-Yeah.
Good night, guys.
Radwan. I swear he was
about to tell me something.
-Mm-hm
-He was close.
Yeah, yeah.
[sighs]
I'm serious.
During the questioning,
he was trying to tell me something.
His disciplinary case.
Take a look at it.
See if he's trustworthy or not.
I'm going home. Want a ride?
Yes? No?
See you later.
[pensive music playing]
You screwed up, kid.
They were tailing you.
I know.
Sorry.
[sighs] I didn't notice them and
[sighs]
That container thing, what is it?
None of your concern.
[pensive music continues playing]
Janek's would be
discharged today at about 4:00.
I've already set up
a special bed you wanted for him.
I'll pick Hania up from school,
and an ambulance will bring him in.
They need someone
to be present at discharge, though.
I can't be everywhere at once.
Can you hand me the towel?
You want coffee? It's ready for you.
Yes, please.
Hania.
-Hania. Rise and shine.
-Mommy?
Hm?
There's food out for you.
Give me a kiss.
-Thank you.
-Did you hear what I told you before?
Yeah, I did.
You can't be everywhere
and Janek is getting discharged at 4.
I'll figure it out and pick him up.
-What?
-You look a bit older.
Thank you, Mom.
And you look younger every day.
[chuckles]
And I love you too.
Mm-hm
[somber music playing]
[pathologist] You can see
he has a shattered skull,
as well as multi-organ injuries.
Ruptured spleen
and liver in three different areas.
He also has a broken rib
that punctured his lungs.
There's no way
he could've survive this.
Could he have been beaten?
The cause of death was from a fall.
Like from a container?
Two to four meters?
Well, based on his skull, uh
it indicates that he must have
fallen from much higher than that.
He fell onto a hard surface.
He might have fallen
from a port crane.
There's a bunch of concrete below.
I found him near the containers,
so it's 50 meters away.
Someone must have dragged him.
It would make sense.
He was beaten,
then pushed afterwards.
He's got a newly broken nose,
multiple lacerations.
Uh
No DNA was found
under the fingernails.
He didn't fight back?
No.
[pensive music playing]
[line ringing]
[Trepa on recording]
Hi. Please leave a message.
[voicemail beeps]
Trepa, call me when you're able to.
[pensive music continues playing]
[Zawieja] Molski put a gun
to Marek Lanski's head.
[Szymanski] He hasn't confessed
and Marek is on his side.
Okay. But we've secured the gun.
Then it's legal.
He's in a club for gun enthusiasts.
[Zawieja] What about all the cash
he had on him, though?
[Szymanski] He had
an overdue invoice for that amount.
[Zawieja] All right. So let's ask
him about the night Oliwier died.
He'll say he spent it with Lanski.
-The techs will check his phone.
-They won't find anything.
The guy's too smart.
He knows how it works.
So we're just gonna let him go?
And not embarrass ourselves.
We booked Molski
for the murder of Oliwier Galewski.
This is our case.
We make the final call, right?
No. Chief inspector is right,
we've got nothing on him.
[solemn music playing]
[scoffs] I'm getting the feeling
you're actually on the guy's side.
Those are strong words.
They seem unwarranted.
[siren blares]
[Zawieja] I got the autopsy
results this morning.
Looks like it wasn't
an unfortunate accident after all.
Oliwier was pushed of the crane.
He was dragged
near the containers and left to die.
[Budka] What are you suggesting?
That someone must have
found out he was snitching
and decided to murder him for it.
[Budka] Who, though? Lanski?
[Pietrzak] Not him.
No. He's not dumb enough
to murder the boy on his territory.
-Plus, it's not his style.
-[Zawieja] It's Molski's style.
It's Molski who deals
with human trafficking.
He keeps an eye on it all.
If he found out the kid betrayed him,
having him killed
was the best option.
I asked you before to make sure
you go strictly by the book.
And a few hours after that,
driven by emotion and alcohol,
you go and make a wrongful arrest
with the use of a firearm?
[Zawieja] I was following
a suspect in Galewski's murder.
It's not my fault Molski showed up.
What I said about these cases
from the start
-is that they're both connected.
-That's irrelevant.
What is relevant is how we failed.
We have to release them now.
We have nothing.
Let me question Marek
and then we won't have to.
-Molski held a gun to him.
-That won't be happening.
Because Marek Lanski doesn't
wanna talk without his lawyer.
And I have nothing
that I'd be able to use in court.
[sighs]
-What if I speak with Radwan?
-Zawieja.
I should take you off this case.
[solemn music playing]
The prosecutor and myself
have made the decision
that if you're able
to pass the psych evaluation,
you can work on the case after.
[indistinct chatter]
Where's Trepa?
Don't know.
Don't worry about the evaluation.
I'll handle it later.
I had to give Budka something
to make her back off.
Okay.
What do you think about Radwan?
I talked to the leader
of his old squad.
He said the guy was so far gone
he had to kick him off the force.
From what I found out,
he wasn't undercover.
So then,
he's working for Molski just for fun?
I don't buy it.
When I was questioning him,
-he tried to tell me something.
-I need you to let this go.
The arrests compromised him,
even if he was acting alone.
-Just focus on Oliwier.
-[knocking on door]
I'm sorry.
Zawieja, you should know that
the security logs
from the docks came back,
and Galewski was recorded
leaving just after midnight.
Not 8 p.m., like he told you.
Mm-hm Thank you.
You see? There's work to do.
Wallet, your keys and belt and chain.
And the backpack.
What the hell? Where's my money?
The money stays in the evidence room
until its origin is clarified.
It's not fucking evidence.
It's legal. I got the money legally.
You understand that? Tell him for me?
It's not my problem. Sorry.
Your jacket. Sign here.
Fuck. Dad's gonna kill me.
I don't know who the killer will be,
or what they'll do.
If you give me nothing, though,
you'll be the next victim.
The only thing I can give you
would be a kiss.
You're very funny.
You did save my life, right?
Your father forced you
to bring that money?
You better stay
the fuck away from my father.
Marek, hey, let's talk.
[tense music playing]
You wanna talk?
Why don't you come to my club?
We'll have one-on-one time.
[Marek] Fucking scumbags.
So did you snitch?
-The fuckers took the money.
-That's great.
[Zawieja] So Um
Hey.
Uh
-There's a problem.
-Yes, there is.
Janek is gonna be discharged
in a bit.
And?
We have to go to the Galewskis,
'cause he lied.
I found he was at the docks till
midnight the night he was killed.
So I'll go to the Galewskis
and you go to Janek.
-I should go to the Galewskis.
-Why?
It's my case, right?
Aha! That's what you believe?
Your case. And here I was thinking
I was a cop too.
I guess I'm suited
for something else.
-All right then, Zawieja. Go, go, go!
-Hey. No, Trepa, come on.
[engine starts]
[melancholy music playing]
[line ringing]
[Trepa] Hello?
Trepa, you don't have to sulk.
-I didn't mean it like that.
-I'm not sulking.
But it is what it is.
So, what will you do now?
I don't know what you mean.
I'm going to Janek
just like you told me to.
Okay.
Look, uh, Trepa, this thing
with Radwan is eating at me.
I just think it would help
if I went to them.
-Where? To who?
-To Radwan and Zofia's house.
To their address on file.
I need to contact them
and that might be the only way.
You know how I feel about that.
You've been getting yourself into
more trouble than you're already in.
If you need to do it, then go.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Anything else
you want me to do for you?
-No.
-Okay.
Bye.
[line disconnects]
[solemn music playing]
-Hi, boys.
-Hey, auntie.
-Is Mom home?
-She's out shopping right now.
-Will you guys let me in?
-[both] Yeah, we will.
Well, well.
-Hi, boys.
-Hi, Mom.
-What's up? You hungry?
-Yeah.
I'll go and make you
some sandwiches then.
-Hi.
-Hey.
[loud whirring]
[Gosia]
Excuse me. Excuse me.
Can you stop?
A sick man's coming through.
[whirring stops]
But I can do it myself.
[moans weakly] Will you--?
Come on. [groans]
[whirring continues]
[Janek] Fuck me.
[gibbering]
[groans]
Fuck! [groans]
Oh, fuck. [groans]
Fuck!
[moans weakly]
-Fuck! [groans]
-[man] I'll lift your leg a bit.
-[Janek] Son of a-- [groans]
-Easy, we're just here to help.
-We won't hurt you.
-[Janek] Okay. Okay.
Fuck. [groans]
-We'll lay you down in bed.
-All right. I can do it myself.
Fuck! [groans]
-Hi, Hania. How are you?
-I'm good.
-Are you sure?
-Yeah.
-Grandpa's yelling a bit, isn't he?
-Yeah.
The thing that happened to him
created some problems in his brain.
Grandpa isn't able
to fully talk or move now.
And it's left him with only one word
that he's able to say.
-What word?
-I'm not allowed to say it.
-Say it.
-I'm not allowed,
because it's such a bad fucking word.
-But you've just said it.
-No, I never use bad fucking words.
-[chuckles] Again.
-Promise me that you'll never swear.
-Okay.
-You have to speak nicely.
Not like Grandpa.
Do you know which room
will be mine now?
No, but me and Mom
will figure something out.
I heard Radwan got kicked off
the force, so I figured I would
come by to check up on you.
I don't know what to tell you.
Nothing's changed.
He started drinking, doing drugs.
So they kicked him out.
Basically, he's an addict.
-Does he live with you?
-No.
He found another job, though.
And sometimes he stops by
to visit the boys.
It's better this way.
I'm making money
and paying off the house.
[sniffles]
Do you know where he is
and who he works for?
No.
And I'm not interested.
Boys! Sandwiches.
I'm just glad that
they have a normal life now.
Without a father who's a letdown.
That's true. But he still stops by
to see the boys.
Doesn't he?
-[boy 1] All right.
-Fuck me.
[boy 2] Turn it on. Turn it on.
Turn it on. Hurry.
Are you playing or eating? I swear,
I'll throw all your shit away.
Zofia, look, I've got a case.
The docks, human trafficking.
A boy was murdered a few days ago,
and I don't know if Radwan
is involved.
But I have to get in touch
with him somehow.
[tense music playing]
Just like him, you're an addict.
-Zofia.
-It would be best if you left now.
Zofia, please help.
When you see him,
tell him I was here.
And tell him to contact me.
See you later.
You were the one who told me
to give him a second chance, right?
[sighs]
You guys will never change.
[door closes]
[poignant music playing]
[tool humming]
Good evening!
Hey, Stanislaw?
Good evening.
[humming stops]
I'm sorry to ask again,
but I need to know.
So just to clarify, what time
are you here until that night?
-Till about 7.
-You positive?
-Yes.
-I understand you were emotional
and you could've missed a detail.
We have the shipyard CCTV footage.
So, what's the real story?
[sniffles]
Come with me.
I went to see Lanski to his office.
I wanted to talk money
since I owe them money.
A lot of it.
For what?
The reason I borrowed it was
[sighs]
to make our company grow.
He was in jail then,
but when he got released,
he wanted me to pay him back,
but I didn't have the money.
-And why did you never tell us?
-What? There was no talk.
Lanski didn't show up. I was just
waiting in that office like a moron.
The day my son was murdered,
you spoke to him.
The workers told me. They saw you.
What did you want from him?
Your son was involved
in an ongoing investigation.
What do you mean?
What investigation? Did you know?
Yes, I did talked to him that day.
Because I wanted to tell him
what his situation was,
and I wanted to try
and get him out of it.
-Do you understand?
-You realize you fucking failed?
How could you not
tell me about any of this?
I'm his mother.
I would've helped him out.
I was doing my job.
I wasn't allowed. He was an adult.
I'm doing everything
in power to find who did this.
And you're looking here?
You're in the wrong place.
Now go. Find the guy.
Do your job right.
I hate you, you know that?
And I always will.
-No, no. Stop it.
-Come on. Calm down.
-[Elzbieta yelling] I hate you!
-[Stanislaw] Stop it!
-Calm the fuck down.
-I hate you, do you hear me?
[solemn music playing]
Goddamn it.
I can't fucking do this.
[Trepa] "They laid down in an old
abandoned house, by the mine.
They thought
it would probably be hard to"
[solemn music continues playing]
[sighs]
[sniffles]
-They're asleep.
-What are you doing all this for?
Stop wasting your life on it.
You see
You have a way out unlike me.
-Kasia isn't--
-[phone ringing]
Kasia. Hello?
Hi, how are you? How's everyone?
[Trepa] Good. We're all good.
So did you learn anything
about Radwan?
Not really, except that it seems
he doesn't live with his family.
Officially, at least.
Zofia was mad about my visit,
so she didn't wanna talk.
And then,
I went to visit the Galewskis.
I learned that Stanislaw Galewski
borrowed money from Lanski.
And he stayed at the docks that night
'cause they were supposed to meet up,
but Lanski never showed.
And where are you now?
Well
Um, in the car driving. Going home.
Why?
When will you get here?
'Cause I think I'm gonna leave soon.
Okay, I'll be there soon.
So it's fine. Thank you.
[car engine starts]
All right.
[tense music playing]
[siren wailing in distance]
[sighs]
[dramatic music playing]
I know I fucked something up
by arresting them,
but I don't know what.
When I learned that Molski
was trafficking underage girls again,
I couldn't just let it go.
I did everything I could
to get kicked off the force.
I know, I've seen your file. So does
this mean you've gone rogue then?
-Seems like it.
-Jesus fucking Christ.
-I owe this to Wojtek.
-You don't. He wouldn't want this.
You don't give a shit
about Zofia and the boys?
What don't you understand?
This case needs to be brought
to a close. You know that.
So you don't wanna help then? No?
Radwan, you're the only
person left who I can trust.
If you trust me
and give me something on him,
then I will catch Molski
and you won't go to prison.
You'll be free. Don't you want that?
"Free"?
I'm already free. Look at me.
Okay.
The girls from the container
are still around here.
And one of them
is important to Molski.
The kid who died
must have hidden them somewhere.
If I learn anything more,
I'll let you know, okay?
[dramatic music playing]
[theme music playing]
