three, four hours? Six maybe.
FITZ: What about
the scratches on her neck?
Could’ve been from the fishing net,
or possible signs of a struggle?
The coroner can get into that.

ARCH: Julia’s wetsuit had

Like a regulator?
No. The Webbs have all the best gear,
but Julia needed a thicker wetsuit.
She’d forgotten
how cold the water is here.
Where can we find these Webbs?
They usually head out onto the water
by 10, so you should be
able to catch them.
They’re set up in a house
just up the shore.

a shipwreck called The Liberty.
And you brought Julia, what,

ELISE: Jules and I had
a connection to Saint-Pierre.
As teens, her parents brought me
along to keep her company.
God, her parents are gonna be devastated.
FITZ:
We noticed a security camera outside.
What’s that all about?
The neighbourhood is pretty safe.
Yeah, we had some break-ins.
Uh, one a while back,
another just last week.
John had them installed
after the first time.
They steal anything?
They hacked the electronic lock
on the shed.
They vandalized our gear.
They slit all the air hoses
so we couldn’t dive.
I assume you caught some of that on tape.

JOHN: Yeah.

you can’t see the guy’s face.

Felix asked us not to.
JOHN: Yeah, he said
he would take care of it
and then he had
all new equipment sent over
the next morning.
We’re going to get an officer
to follow up,
take your prints
and ask some more questions,
to help rule you out
of the investigation.
FITZ: So, you said Felix Lambert,
he owns this place,
and Julia’s, is that next door?
Yeah, that’s right.
Do you have a key? We’ll need access.
Julia always kept the place
locked up pretty tight.
We don’t have a key.
So, Lambert would have it?

PATTY: Julia Martin, 28,
originally from South Carolina.
Family used to have a summer
place here on the island.
And the parents own
a fancy ski resort in Les Arcs.
Julia taught there in winter,
and then travels and dives
in the off-season.
Julia’s regulator hose was
detached, most likely by hand.
If her equipment was tampered with,
we’re dealing with a homicide.
MARCUS: [off-screen] Fine!

FITZ: Anyways [clears throat]
John and Elise Webb,
do you have any intel on them?
I looked into them, experienced divers
known for exploring shipwrecks
all over the world.
They met a year and a half ago
at a free dive competition.
Elise is kinda badass.
She holds the women’s world
record for longest free dive.
Free dive? Is that the one
where you go down without equipment?
Yeah, you go as deep
as you can, all on one breath.
How do you not die?
Lots of training, but some
don’t make it back up in time.
PATTY: This is the shipwreck
the Webbs are here to document.
They have all the right permits.
It’s legit.

I knew this was cursed.
You know, you mess with
the Mouth of Hell,
and bad things happen.
I mean, maybe that’s why
their equipment was vandalized.
Are you suggesting that ghosts
cut the lines to their tanks?

those wrecks being disturbed.

ARCH: Aside from the undead,
are there any groups of individuals
who’ve made their opposition known?
PATTY: Some.
None I’d consider violent,
but I’ll dig deeper.
What about this guy, um Felix Lambert?
What do you know about him?
Rich, entitled.
The Webbs apparently
had a break-in and Lambert
convinced them
not to report it to the cops.
[phone chimes]
I just got the web security
footage downloaded.
I’ll see if I can find
anything useful on it.
Should we go talk to Marcus?
Yeah.
In their infinite wisdom,
Prefect Diard and the top brass
at Paris HQ
decided to let Gallagher walk.
He kidnapped and nearly killed you.
You think I forgot about that?

He was going away, with no way out,
for what he did to you.

FITZ: Under what circumstances
could she justify
just letting him walk?
MARCUS: She didn’t tell me,
but she made it very clear
that we should stay out of it
and let it go.
Interpol is involved.
So, he’s just going to be free,
after everything?
I know, it’s crazy,
but I have zero control.
Trust me, Arch,
I would change it if I could.
What if we had something else?

that could put Gallagher away for good?

Theoretically, I mean.
Let’s focus on the murder
of our diver for now.

we can get a clearer picture
of what’s going on here.

the person who sabotaged their gear
wore a dive watch that’s the
same make worn by Gabe Saunier.
Have you found Natasha yet?
We need a coroner’s report
to give us more intel on Julia’s death.
Our calls keep going
straight to voicemail.
FITZ: Marcus, buddy,
you’re gonna have to spring
and hire a full-time coroner.
MARCUS: Noted.
So, Felix Lambert told you
he hired the dive team
to recover artifacts from the Liberty?
Correct. But the things
we found in Julia’s attic
there’s no way this stuff came from
an 1800s Napoleonic schooner.
FITZ: Nah, more like a ship
circa World War II.
ARCH: So, where did this stuff come from?
And why were they hiding it?
There’s an underground market
for everything, I suppose.
Some of this stuff
could fetch a good price.
RENUF: None of the items recovered match
any registered wrecks
from the marine database.
That, uh
that hurricane last year?
- Hurricane Leo?
- Yeah.
There was some random anchor
found by a fisherman after the storm.
The Mystery Anchor.
No one knew where it came from.
Lambert was quoted as saying
even he didn’t know its origin.
So, the hurricane unearths this ship.
The Webbs, Julia, they discover it
on one of their dives to the Liberty.
They grab a bunch of these artifacts
trying to make some extra money.
ARCH: And Gabe found out and was
trying to steal artifacts for himself?
- Hm.
- [phone buzzing]
Elise is downstairs.
She wants to speak with us.

he’s pissed that I’m here.

We had a fight and he just walked out,
like he always does when we fight.
ARCH: So, you’re saying you were involved
in the theft of these artifacts?
Our permits,
the ones Felix Lambert obtained
were legit, but
sometimes you dive one wreck and
while you’re down there,
you discover another.
ARCH: And you decided to keep these?
FITZ: Elise, you came here
to tell us something
you didn’t want your husband to hear.

A little while back, I discovered that
he has a history of this kind of thing.
Theft?
The first time I caught him
stealing from a wreck,
he justified it as, "Who are we hurting?"
And we made some good money.
But we were taking a risk.
This stuff was all being
stashed at Julia’s.
She obviously knew about it.
ELISE: We told her
it was all part of the job.
Julia wasn’t really one
to read the fine print,
and she agreed her attic
was the perfect place
to hide the stash.
But
then when someone broke into our place
and destroyed our gear,
I mean, we assumed
they were looking for these.
I think that’s what got Julia killed.
ARCH: We know Gabe Saunier
was responsible
for the break-in at your place.
Gabe?
Uh-huh
What?
Years back,
Gabe was Julia’s summer fling.
Any chance they rekindled things?
I doubt it.
Julia lived a big life.
Gabe wouldn’t have been
enough for her now.
Even back then, he was always just
a plaything.
He didn’t deserve that.

but without a tank,

So, if Julia’s regulator hose
was detached,
she’d never be able to get up
to the surface in time.
Although I don’t think our victim
died as far out in the ocean
as she was found.

Julia ingested petrol.
And by the particulates in her lungs,
I’d say our girl died
close to the surface.
Where’s the most likely place
that you’d ingest gasoline
- that close to the surface?
- A marina.
Gabe’s shop is right there on the wharf.
I put time of death
at 5:30 in the morning.
5:30. There’d be tons
of fishermen around.
How could you drown someone
with that many people around
without being seen?
And the marks on her neck?
Consistent with someone being grabbed
by the scruff of their neck.

Julia didn’t die
because of faulty equipment.
FITZ: No
Someone watched her while they
held her down and she drowned.

my mother, or Gallagher,

don’t like the affair theory,

When Julia came back to the island,

we have not ruled him out yet.

she thought put her in danger,

didn’t want her to find
FITZ: Or something valuable,
something she was trying
to keep for herself
it might have got her killed.
MARCUS: Let’s hang on to Gabe for now,

JOHN: I have no idea

taking whatever you want
from the wrecks
you’re exploring down there.

ARCH: Julia was scared
of whatever was in the box she found,
and we think she trusted you.
When we saw you at Julia’s,

because she already gave it to you.
You were looking for the key
that opens it.

she figured she’d dropped the key trying
to get the box out of there in a hurry.
I went back to look for it.
And what were you gonna do
with whatever you found inside the box?
ARCH: Did you hide the strongbox
at the lighthouse?
It was a special place for you two.
