Hell Comes to Haggard

1
-[mysterious music playing]
-[fire roaring]
-[melancholy tune playing on lyre]
-[birds cawing]
-[Whitley moaning weakly]
-[Drew grunting]
[dark music building]
-[Drew grunts]
-[Whitley coughing]
[melancholy tune continues playing]
[Drew gasps]
[foreboding music playing]
[gasps]
[eerie music playing]
Do you treat all your guests this way?
It's not my doing. Not directly, anyway.
It's all down to the magic
of their former lord.
-Isn't that right, old man?
-[old man grunts, moans]
[exhales]
You're Baron Ewan?
My friend's sick.
I was told you could help.
What bit her?
The Risen Dead.
Necromancy? A murky business.
Can you save her? Please.
[sighs] I'll do what I can, lad.
I know you're frightened for her,
but take my advice and keep it hidden.
Your enemies will only use it against you.
What enemies?
The name's Count Kesslar.
[electricity crackling]
But "Master" will suffice.
[eerie music plays]
[Hector] It's okay. It was an accident,
a horrible mistake.
I never, never meant to--
[yelps, whimpers]
Why would I want my own brother…
my own brother dead?
-[door opens]
-[gasps]
[dark music playing]
It's done.
[gasps]
-[Whitley moans]
-[Baron Ewan] Keep still.
That's it. Breathe.
[sighs] I'm sorry I got you into this.
Hector was right. Too many stupid risks.
Do I know you?
No, but I know you.
Oh yeah?
Growing up on the Cold Coast,
everyone knew about Kesslar,
the bogeyman who makes
entire villages disappear.
[laughs] Ah, yeah, the Cold Coast
was always rich pickings,
remote and undefended as it is.
And the people you snatch?
Where do they end up?
The fighting pits. [laughs evilly]
The Lords of Scoria pay good money
for the right warriors.
[Drew exhales]
They seem bewitched.
That's Ewan's charm.
Terrible shame when a magister's forced
to turn his magic upon his people, eh?
-[Baron Ewan sighs]
-Will the girl live?
She will. She has to.
She may not.
Well, she's worthless, then. Trapdoor!
-[ominous music playing]
-Wait, Whitley!
No, no, no!
[grunts]
Kesslar, you can't! Stop!
[Whitley moans weakly] What?
[yelps]
[whimpering]
-No! Please… please don't!
-You'll join her if you're not careful!
Please!
[panting fearfully, wails]
[Drew grunts]
She's a Werelord!
Oh yeah? Do go on.
-Trust me on this, Hector.
-But…
Trust me.
Your brother is long gone,
off an abandoned jetty, to be precise.
You're in the clear.
And, uh… and Ringlin?
Was he helpful?
He's a mercenary.
You keep putting gold in his pocket,
he'll keep serving you.
I guess I'll see you
at the next Wolf Council meeting.
Sweet sea serpents, no.
You should lay low,
get yourself shipshape again.
[chuckles]
Be well, little boar.
[Ringlin grunts]
Right, boss.
How about I fix us a bite to eat?
Oh, lovely, that's very kind of--
[Ringlin] And then…
[Hector breathes nervously]
…we can discuss my wages.
[Hector grunting nervously]
She's a Bearlord?
Bergan's own cub, no less.
[grunts] Yes.
I brought her here
because Baron Ewan is a magister.
He's our only hope.
Well, she's worth nothing to me dead.
Heal her!
Oh…
Are your people sick too?
[Baron Ewan] No, they're quite well.
And they're safer this way, I suppose.
I practice magistry of the mind.
That's where they're trapped,
in their own dreams.
[exhales heavily]
[kisses]
-I recognize that look, son.
-What look?
You blame yourself.
Ah, regret is a terrible thing.
[chuckles sadly]
[Kesslar] Visiting hour's over.
One more for the land of dreams.
[Baron Ewan] Ah…
Forgive me, Drew.
-[snaps]
-[ominous music playing]
[fearful panting]
[bell tolling]
[Duke Bergan grunting softly]
[King Leopold roars in distance]
Pipe down, Lion!
[chuckles softly, sips]
[crossbow cocking]
-[arrow whooshes]
-[grunts]
[curious music playing]
[grunts softly]
[exhales]
[gasps]
[men laughing]
A thousand apologies for my tardiness.
I had quite a night.
Ah, Vega, you old Shark.
[laughs] Come here.
[Duke Bergan laughs]
You're going to love this.
[Vega] Oh?
Ah, let's see.
"King Leopold requests a meeting." Mm.
"The Lion wishes to discuss
his terms of surrender."
[men laughing]
-See?
-[Manfred] Oh. [chuckles]
I knew it.
[uneasy music playing]
[muffled] That's it. Just that…
-Yes. Keep still.
-[Whitley, muffled] What?
There.
[in normal tone] Where am I?
[in normal tone]
You must rest, Lady Whitley.
You're not out of the woods yet,
not by a long shot.
You know my name?
Your friend told us as much.
You've got him to thank.
It was almost too late for you,
but he is a determined young man.
Where… where is he?
He's trapped, like the rest of them.
[Whitley gasps]
[Baron Ewan] I had no choice.
Kesslar holds our elders hostage,
while our younger townsfolk
are to be taken to the fighting pits.
[Kesslar] Oh, but my plans are changing.
It's a long journey to the pits.
Why spend a fortune
feeding 100 hungry mouths
when I can feed just one?
A Werelord like you
is worth 1,000 mortals.
Right. Take what treasure you can carry.
Leave the rest, the humans too.
The Banshee
sails for Scoria on the first tide!
[henchman] And what about Haggard?
Burn it to the ground.
-No!
-[Whitley cries out, grunts]
Drew!
[breathing heavily] Drew!
Hello? Is anybody there?
Anyone?
[eerie music playing]
Who… Whoever did this,
just show yourselves.
[mystical music plays darkly]
[gasps] It's…
This is just some trick.
I'm not scared of you!
[ghostly whispering]
[gasps]
Sack it.
[evil laughter]
Some king you are.
Well, if you won't take the crown, I will.
[Duke Bergan] Listen, if Leopold
wants to discuss terms of surrender,
we'd be fools not to meet with him.
-Are you sure about this, Bergan?
-Let's hear him out and get him out.
[Queen Amelie sighs]
Something wrong, Your Majesty?
If something sounds too good to be true,
then it usually is.
[huffs, splutters] Well,
if you're suggesting Leopold is playing
some kind of a trick…
I know my husband. He's not to be trusted.
Well, given your long ordeal,
how could you feel any other way?
We'll go and meet with him.
You'll be quite safe here.
Come.
[tense music playing]
[Queen Amelie sighs]
[ominous music playing]
[Queen Amelie] Bergan!
Listen to me.
We take your reservations on board,
Your Majesty.
In fact, why don't we vote on this?
All in favor of meeting with Leopold?
Manfred?
[Manfred sighs]
And those against?
And I know which way
Hector would vote if he was here.
Hector lost that privilege
when he let Drew slip away.
We are now a council of five.
And I count three to two in favor.
-This is a bad idea.
-No, this is a golden opportunity.
Served up on a golden platter.
Doesn't that seem a tiny bit fishy to you?
[Mikkel] You, come here.
Send word to the Lion.
We meet on the drawbridge
of Highcliff Keep. Unarmed, right?
At noon.
[scoffs] If you think he's coming unarmed…
Since the idea worries you so much,
why don't you walk
Her Majesty back to her quarters?
[Vega exhales, growls in frustration]
[Evil Drew] You are not fit to rule.
What have you achieved,
apart from putting your friends in danger?
It's my time to rule the Seven Realms.
[electricity crackling]
[panting fearfully]
Everyone will bow to the Wolf.
You'll have to come through me first.
[laughing evilly]
Have it your way. [growls menacingly]
[eerie music playing]
[Baron Ewan grunting softly]
I beg you, please, don't--
Sorry I can't stay, cousin.
I love a good roast.
-[laughs evilly]
-[Whitley grunts]
But the people…
Light it up! We sail for Scoria!
[Whitley grunting weakly]
[sobbing]
[arrow whooshes]
What?
[grunting]
[Drew and Evil Drew grunt]
You'll never be worthy.
You betrayed everyone you've ever loved.
That's not true!
How many innocents have died for you?
Hector's frail old father.
Sweet, young Erin.
Your own mother!
And now, Whitley.
All because of you!
[Drew wails]
[shouts angrily]
-[Evil Drew growling]
-[Drew groaning]
Was there ever a more unworthy king?
Even your own mother couldn't love you.
[dramatic music building]
[ethereal music playing]
You're wrong. I am loved.
And I see you for what you are.
[laughs mockingly] And what's that?
Fear. My own fear.
That's all you are.
[both grunt]
You don't scare me anymore.
-[Evil Drew roaring]
-I've beaten you before.
And I'll do it again.
[Evil Drew roars]
[grunting]
[mysterious music playing]
[Evil Drew roars fearfully]
[crying out]
You'll never escape me!
I think I'm done here.
[grunts softly]
What?
-[fire roaring]
-[Baron Ewan coughing]
[wails, groans]
What happened? Here, let me help.
What? No human has ever
broken out of their mind prison before.
I'm no human.
[gasps] You're the Wolf?
[mystical music playing]
[gasps]
[townspeople gasping, coughing]
Don't just stand there, young Wolf!
Help me get them out!
[suspenseful music playing]
[townspeople yelling indistinctly]
[coughing] That's everyone out.
You lead them through the gates.
-I'm going back for Whitley.
-You can't! Save one, or save many.
I could do both.
Just tell me where to find her!
Kesslar has taken her to his ship.
He's going to sell her
to the Lords of Scoria.
-Which way did he go?
-He's taken the ravine bridge.
It leads down to the harbor below.
You'll come back for us?
I promise!
[thrilling music playing]
Quick. Down to this ship!
[grunts]
[Whitley yells]
This little Bear will earn me a fortune.
[Drew] Whitley!
[panting] Whitley!
-[electricity crackling]
-Not today, you old goat! [yells]
[cries out]
[groans angrily]
[electricity crackling]
You'll regret that, Bearlord.
[Whitley pants, chuckles]
I'm just getting started.
[roars]
[growls]
[cries out, grunts]
[straining]
[both grunting]
[Whitley grunts]
[shouts]
[both grunt]
[Kesslar cries out]
[grunting]
Help me, woman!
Thank you.
No! [gasps]
[gasps]
[bird screeching]
-Are you all right? I was so worried--
-What are you doing here?
-Rescuing you!
-I can take care of myself.
-Ewan needs our help.
-But I've got everyone out.
[drawbridge creaking]
[uneasy music playing]
Gentlemen. You're right on time.
I expected nothing less.
And you've brought a special guest, I see.
Nice to see the color back in your cheeks,
my love.
I wish I could say the same, Leopold.
You look a little cooped
after your confinement.
All the more reason
to enjoy this little stroll,
eh, Vanmorten?
[Mikkel growls angrily]
Let's get on with your terms of surrender.
The sooner you're gone,
the sooner Lyssia can return to normal.
[King Leopold laughs menacingly]
You've got this all wrong, Staglord.
We're here to discuss
your surrender, not mine.
[snaps]
[growls] It's a trap!
I could have sworn the queen said that.
There's quite an echo out here.
[crossbows cocking]
[townspeople shouting indistinctly]
-[man] It won't open!
-[woman] Let us out!
[Drew coughing]
It's no good!
They've barricaded the gates!
What? No! No, no, no!
We can't get out!
[Drew] Look out!
[Whitley grunting]
[Drew grunts]
If we work together,
maybe we can break out!
[grunts] It's no good!
[groans] This is all my fault!
Seriously, what were you thinking?
[grunts] I didn't know
Kesslar had barricaded the gates!
[both grunt]
-A king must always put his people first!
-I know, I know!
[both grunt]
-So why didn't you?
-[coughs, grunts] Because…
[grunts] Because what?
Because… you were more important!
[Whitley grunts]
[panting]
Nothing's more important than you.
-[loud bang]
-[Whitley gasps]
[grunts, coughs] What is that?
-Whitley!
-Broghan!
Let's get these people out of here!
Come on, move!
Move!
Come on, come on! This way, this way!
We're out. Come on!
[Broghan] We got here as soon as we could.
I'm sorry we couldn't do more.
My people are safe.
That's all that matters for now.
I pray one day it can be rebuilt.
Whitley, I…
[sighs]
[King Leopold laughs mockingly]
You really thought
I was about to surrender to you?
[trooper] Wait for it.
[King Leopold laughs mockingly]
That's it! Turn tail and run.
No wonder Wergar fell,
with a council of lapdogs to support him.
[laughs dryly] Oh no.
Keep walking, Mikkel.
[snaps]
Still doing exactly what big brother
tells you to do, eh, Mikkel?
What a good little deer you are.
[electricity crackling]
[growling]
Brother, no!
Mikkel!
[suspenseful music playing]
[laughs menacingly]
-[flesh squelches]
-[Mikkel groans weakly]
-Mikkel!
-No!
[trooper] Fire!
Brother, no!
Mikkel!
[laughs menacingly]
[closing theme music playing]
[music fades out]
