I'm not going to spend the
little time that I have left
in a hospital, being poked
and prodded by doctors.

I didn't believe the doctors
at first when they told us.
Ted seemed fine.
Well, pancreatic cancer is easy to miss.
There aren't a lot of symptoms.
I'm worried about Cal.

This is going to be hard on him.
He's been angry with
his father for so long.
What did he tell you about Jed?
Just that life with him was difficult.
He could be unpredictable.
Managing Jed's condition
with four kids was hard.
I relied on Cal for help.
He grew up fast,
carried more on his shoulders
than any child should have to.
I don't think he ever
forgave Jed for not being
the father he needed.

I mean, they had Cal to lean on.
He was there for them.

It's a lot more sturdy than some

A sample of the dying
lichen. I'll get it tested,
see if there's any
signs of toxic chemicals.
How long will that take?
Probably a few weeks.
If he's using something toxic,
we have to shut him down now.

Nova Scotia Environmental Agency.
Maybe we should think about this first.

Doctors prescribed pills,
but Jed didn't like the
way they made him feel,
so he decided to manage
his condition through diet,
meditation,
and that worked
a lot of the time.
I know my husband isn't perfect,
but he always tried to be
the best dad he could be,
despite his condition.
I can't imagine how difficult
that must have been for you.
It is surprising what
you learn to live with
when you love someone.
I spent my entire life
taking care of Jed.
He's been my world,
my everything.
I don't know what I'm
going to do when he's
