[CHAD BARNES] June 18, 2023,
was meant to mark
the start of a fairy tale.
On this day, Miss Wendy Collins
saw the man she envisioned
spending her life with.
Little did she know
that two years later,
the same man would end her life.
How did this occur?
Well, ladies and gentlemen of
the jury, our evidence will show
that Miss Collins and the defendant
were involved in a physical altercation.
Miss Collins then went
to the defendant's cabin
to clear her head after the argument.
And the evidence will show
that hours after the altercation,
the defendant went to
his cabin and killed her.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury,
Ozzie Edwards is an actor,
and he is going to sit here
and play the innocent
victim who loved his girlfriend,
and he hopes that you will buy it
and that he walks
out of here with cheers
from his studio audience.
However, while the Oscars
may reward great performances,
juries should not.
Your job is to focus on the evidence,
not the character that
you think you know.
And after hearing the evidence,
we believe that you
will be left with no doubt
that the defendant is guilty
of second-degree murder.
Thank you.
"Acting is what I
do. It's not who I am."
Mr. Edwards shared these words
in his Teen Vogue
article five years ago,
quoting his acting inspiration,
Denzel Washington.
Who is Ozzie Edwards?
Yes, he's an actor.
But you know what he isn't?
A murderer.
And throughout this trial, we will show
that despite all the
efforts of the prosecution
to convince you otherwise,
there are too many facts and
inconsistencies that prove them wrong.
For instance, let's start with
the fact that there is no motive.
Also, Mr. Edwards has
no history of violence.
He and Miss Collins were involved
in a relationship that wasn't perfect,
and a lot of their issues
were due to the fact
that Mr. Edwards wanted to
keep their situation a secret.
However, being a bad
boyfriend isn't a crime.
If it were, then many
of you should be in jail.
[LIGHT LAUGHTER]
But sure, ladies and gentlemen,
let's tell a Hollywood story
as the prosecution
asserts this is, right?
Our leading man, Mr. Edwards,
gets into a heated
argument with his girlfriend.
He can't give her what she wants.
Angry, she storms off to cool
down at a cabin that he owns.
It's giving she wants him
to chase her, but he doesn't.
What does he do? He gets high.
So high, that he
doesn't leave his house.
In fact, the prosecution has no evidence
that Mr. Edwards was at the crime scene.
The GPS in his vehicle
never leaves the house.
And when asked to speak to the police,
Mr. Edwards went willingly.
The end. That's the story.
I don't know about you, but I'm
not tuning in to the second episode.
We are confident that at
the conclusion of this trial,
you will recognize that
the prosecution's case
is based solely on
circumstantial evidence
with no physical or
scientific foundation,
thus creating reasonable doubt.
And thus, telling the real
story, one with a big twist,
that Ozzie Edwards is
not guilty of this crime.
Next episode.

I'm a homicide detective with

I was the chief medical
examiner on Miss Collins' case.
[CHAD] And can you

We found Miss Collins' body
in the woods near the cabin
with a gunshot wound to her right arm.
We also searched the cabin and
found the defendant's registered gun
with a shell casing
forensically linked to it.
[DR. ARCHIE GOLDEN] The
autopsy revealed that the bullet
ruptured the brachial artery.
As a result, Miss Collins experienced
rapid and significant blood loss.
The severity of the
hemorrhage caused her death
within a matter of minutes
due to a lack of medical intervention.
Were there any other
findings from the autopsy?
There were rope burns
on her wrists and ankles,
and Miss Collins also suffered bruising
to the face and abdomen.
Is it possible that these
bruises resulted from a fight?
Certainly possible.
Dr. Golden, could the
bruising have also resulted
from regular daily activity?
It's extremely unlikely, but possible.
[VIC] We also found recent scratches
on the defendant's chest at the time,
which could have
resulted from a struggle
with Miss Collins before her death.
Did you find Mr. Edwards' DNA
- under the victim's nails?
- No.
So, you have no idea how Mr. Edwards
received those scratches, correct?
That's correct.
And could Mr. Edwards' DNA
and hair found on the victim
be attributed to the fact that they were
in a romantic relationship
where they cohabitated?
It's possible.
Were Mr. Edwards'
fingerprints found on the gun?
No, they weren't.

- No.
- Now there were several burglaries
reported in the area
surrounding Mr. Edwards' cabin.
- Correct?
- Yes.
Did you search for a link between
how the victim was murdered
and found in those crimes?
[VIC] We did not.
[JAX] Mm-hmm. No further questions.
Detective Moreno, why
didn't you investigate a link
between those burglaries and the victim?
[VIC] Three reasons.
First, I don't know if
that cabin was robbed.
The cabin had no forced entry.
Second, none of the burglaries
in the area involved violence.
[CHAD] And the third reason?
Because there was overwhelming
evidence pointing to the defendant.

her husband or boyfriend
is most likely the murderer.

on the night of her disappearance,
and he didn't have an alibi.

[CHAD] Miss McCall,
how long had you worked
as Miss Collins' assistant?
About two years.
And in those two years,
did you witness her
relationship with the defendant?
[NISHA MCCALL] I did.
[CHAD] And from your vantage
point, what was that relationship like?
It was hot and cold.
Some days he could
be the loving boyfriend,
and others, he'll walk in
a room like she don't exist.
The way he treated her crushed her.
[CHAD] Let's switch gears a bit.
As her assistant, did you also have
a good sense of her daily routine?
Yeah, which is how I
knew something was off
when she didn't show up for the shoot.
It was Vanity Fair.
Wendy would have never missed that.
So, when she didn't
show up, what did you do?
I went to Ozzie and asked
him the last time he seen her.
And how did the defendant respond?
He said, "I don't
know, and I don't care,"
and then hung up.
[CHAD] Thank you, Miss McCall.
No further questions, Your Honor.
[JUDGE WILLIAMS] Counsel, your witness.
[JAX] Hi, Miss McCall.
During the two years of Miss
Collins and Mr. Edwards' relationship,
do you know if Miss
Collins ever abruptly
left town for a few days after a fight?
Yeah, a few times, like five.
[JAX] So, this was routine.
And to your knowledge, did Mr. Edwards
ever physically harm Miss Collins
during or after one of these fights?
I don't think so, no. But
he was mean as hell to her.
Mean isn't a crime, Miss McCall.
Now, you stated that Miss
Collins inspired you, right?
She made me want bigger
aspirations for myself.
Hmm. And was one of those aspirations
taking over Miss Collins' business?
Um, no.
Your Honor, may I approach?
[JUDGE WILLIAMS] You may.
Miss McCall, I'm showing you
what is being marked for identification
as Defendant's Exhibit 5.
Could you tell me what it is?
It's an email to our clients.
Our clients or Miss Collins' clients?
Miss Collins' clients.
Saying what?
Saying that it's my business
now, and I'm taking over operations.
Hmm. And how many days
post-disappearance was that email sent?
Three.
Three? Hmm. Thank you.
Nothing further.

- [EDDIE] Hey.
- [LIONEL] What's up?
[SPEAKER] Come in.
Jax, you need something?
[JAX] Yes, I do.
For you to tell me the truth
about your relationship with Ozzie.
And what is the truth?
That you're more than just his agent.
Sometimes.
But that's because my job
is to take care of his needs.
And your own.
He will never get back
what you took from him
when he was 13, 14, 15.
You don't know everything
I gave up to protect
that amazing boy from the enablers,
from women who wanted his
money or his baby inside of them,
insidious whores, like Wendy.
Fucked with his head so
she could have him to herself.
And so, you killed her
so you can get back
to what you do best, abusing him.
You think I killed her?
- Yes, I do.
- How fuckin' dare you?
And I can't wait to expose you
for the filthy monster that you are!
Well, I know who I
am, and so does Ozzie.
But do you?
What the fuck does that mean?
When we first met over
dinner about the NDA,
- you weren't present and kind of bored.
- Oh, my God.
You couldn't even stomach
staying for the appetizers.
But ever since Ozzie
got charged for murder,
oh, your eyes light up.
Is it the billable hours
you're racking up?
Or is there a monster in
you who likes all this shit?
Being close to Ozzie helps us both.
In different ways, yes, but
the benefits are the same.
More money, more
respect, and more validation.
The last one I never got at home,
so I'm gonna take a
swing that you didn't either.
Stay the fuck away from Ozzie.
Hey, Louis, Lou Lewis.
Hey. So, uh
I tracked Eddie, and what I saw
didn't alleviate my
concerns for Jax or my kids.
I think he's relapsed and
is buying drugs, and I
I can't tell Jax.
And, Daniel, I I have

He doesn't have much

so can you help me, please?
Yeah, fine, um
Hey, but I don't work

But what's done is done, Chris.
So, stop being a
asshole to her and just

The truth is, I need a home
run with my next witness.
I recognize you've gone
toe-to-toe with Jax Stewart
on more than a few
occasions in the courtroom,
which means you've gained
valuable insight on Jax's strategies,
and, more importantly, her weaknesses.
My next witness' statement.
Well, Jax's biggest weakness
is that she believes in people.
[LAUGHS] Come on, Mike.
You can't be that jaded.
I can. And I am.
The moment you stop
seeing a client as a client
and start seeing them as a person
is the moment you become
too emotionally connected.
That's Jax.
It makes her wanna believe
in her client's innocence
instead of focusing on refuting
what proves their guilt, and on
Chad, this isn't just
another witness statement.
It's a key witness statement.
Then you understand
why I can't mess this up.
So, the judge approved
their augmented witness list?
[JAX] Yes. Supposedly, this
witness recently came forward to them.
Well, this is great.
He can corroborate Ozzie's alibi.
Wait, am I reading this right?
Yup.
I fucking knew you weren't
by yourself that night,
and you didn't wanna tell me.
'Cause that nigga went MIA on me.
And why is that, Ozzie?
I don't know. He just said
he needed to protect himself.
Because he helped you kill Wendy?
No. Look, I swear to God,
look, I argued with Wendy.
Then I called him to get some candy,
we got high together, and I passed out.
You passed out, or you don't
remember what happened next?
I passed out.
Well, guess what?
He is about to testify as the
key witness for the prosecution,
and he's not saying that you passed out.
He's saying that after
the two of you got high,
he drove you to the cabin
to see Wendy the night she was murdered.
[TENSE MUSIC PLAYING]
Do you solemnly swear to
tell the truth, the whole truth,
and nothing but the
truth, so help you God?
Yes, I do.
Mr. Hill, what is your
relationship to the defendant?
Um, I was his costar on
My Cousins and Them.
I played his older brother.
And how long have you
known the defendant?
Since he was 13.
[CHAD] And has your relationship
been continuous since then?
It's had its ups and downs.
I did spend a lot of time at his house.
His parents would, uh,
help me out from time to time
since my parents were
shit, or, um, not great.
And, Ozzie, he was my friend
when things weren't going good,
and when they were, I
was pushed to the side
to make room for his famous friends.
I ain't take it personal, it's
just the nature of the game.
Some folks shoot to the stars
while others watch the
stars from the ground,
and that was my journey.
Let's shift gears to
the night in question.
You said the defendant, Mr. Edwards,
asked you to drive him
to the cabin. Did you?
Yeah, I dropped all my
plans like a real friend
and, uh, took a little road trip.
[CHAD] Your Honor, may
I approach the witness?
[JUDGE WILLIAMS] You may.
I am showing you what has
been marked for identification
as People's Exhibit 20.
Do you know what it is?
It's a, uh, toll receipt
from when I drove Ozzie up to his cabin.
[CHAD] And tell me what
happened once you got to the cabin.
[ALEX HILL] I stayed in the
car while Ozzie went inside.
It took a little longer than expected,
so I got out to see what was happening.
Then what did you do?
I looked inside one
of the cabin windows,
and I saw Ozzie yelling at Wendy.
She was crying.
[CROWD WHISPERING]
[CHAD] Then what happened next?
[ALEX] I went back to the
car. I ain't want no part to that.
And that's when I heard gunshots.
So, I got up outta there
and, uh, drove my ass home.
[CHAD] And was there
anyone else in the cabin
other than Wendy and Ozzie?
[ALEX] No. No one else.
[CHAD] Why didn't you go to
the police with this information?
[ALEX] I was scared.
Ozzie looks innocent, but
don't get on his bad side.
[CHAD] And why are
you coming forward now?
It's the right thing to do.
I admit I made some mistakes
in my past, and that's on me.
But to make up for it,
I made a deal to
testify truthfully today.
[CHAD] Thank you.
Nothing further.
Mr. Hill, is there a photo
showing the defendant with you?
I guess not.

there's no physical proof

All with charges from selling narcotics,
which is the business you
were referring to, correct?

- And this deal that you mentioned,
does it provide immunity from
prosecution for dealing drugs?
- Yes.
- Have you ever sold drugs to my client?
Yeah.
[JAX] And did you sell drugs to
my client on the night in question?
- Yes.
- And Mr. Edwards took the drugs
you provided him on the
night in question, correct?
Well, he's a druggie. What do you think?
Mr. Hill, please answer
all questions from counsel
with a yes or no response.

in and out all night.

and yet he was cognizant
enough to commit murder?
Objection. Lay witness opinion.
Your Honor, if the witness is stating

night of the alleged crime,
