It's the most aggressive
form of stage two cancer.
The tumors have
penetrated the colon wall
and have presented
in the retroperitoneum,
the membrane that
lines the abdominal cavity.
I didn't think surgery was a
requirement for stage two.
[DR. VINCENT HARLOW] Rarely is it not.
Some patients may opt to wait
somewhere between two to six weeks
to allow an underlying
condition to resolve
or to get a second opinion
or to get their life and affairs
in order prior to surgery.
But it is fair to worry about surgery
given your mother's hypertension.
During surgery, we might
see blood pressure spikes,
cardiac ischemia, and possibly
stroke, which could be fatal.
Okay, well, that sounds
like an underlying condition
worth pausing for.
Well, we can't ensure that we can
get it under control in that time frame.
And the chances of becoming stage
three or stage four is far riskier.

I've been doing this for
quite some time, Mrs. Stewart.
This is the best course of action.

responsible course of action I see
