The moment Negan kills
Cockenspiel by killing Fabian,
that's the beginning of the
crescendo of the entire season.
[HIP-HOP MUSIC PLAYING]
Maybe Fabian had to
die. Maybe he didn't.
But Cockenspiel did not have to die.
- [SNARLING]
- I wanted people
to be more upset about the
fact that Cockenspiel was killed
than they were about the
fact that Fabian was killed.
- [WALKER SNARLS]

That's the breakdown of the relationship
between Negan and Dillard.
It was a hard scene, because
it kind of meant the end
of me and Jeffrey's
frick-and-frack fun fest.
- [GUNSHOT FIRES]
- No! Hey! [GASPING]
Dillard's so emotionally connected,
not just to Titicaca, his
true love when she was human,
but to Negan.
He's lost them both in an instant,
and so it's devastating.
Dillard takes a turn.
Dillard goes from being
my best friend to
Bad, bad, bad.
the baddy baddy baddy of the show.
[TENSE MUSIC PLAYING]
Dillard's face slash
is a shocking moment.
[SCREAMING]
Before that, you're
like, "He's eccentric."
And then you're like, "Oh, no, no, no,
this man has such a cracked
idea of what is reality."
Stop filming me.
[LAUGHS] Cut!
[LAUGHTER]
He is a rabid animal, Maggie.
We need to put him in a cage
before he hurts anyone else.

I can get him by myself
without anybody getting hurt.

I loved every conversation
we had in the bar.
Every I don't think we had
a bad conversation in the bar
that I didn't love, as an actor.
Yeah, it wasn't guts and gore.

- It was just two people.

I took home all the liquor bottles
because I didn't want to
be tripped up on the day
with all the business,
'cause it's so essential.

right to try to trick him.
So I'm thinking maybe you could have put

and I was distracted with
this whole whiskey spill thing.

It was a good plan, Maggie.
If she's not out by 12, are

She chose to walk in there.
- You have to put an end to this.

The themes of vengeance and justice
permeate throughout the
world of "The Walking Dead,"
and Renata's really
struggling as a leader with
how to handle Negan.
Luis is trying to talk
his sister off the ledge
because he sees how things
are getting quite dangerous.
You convinced me not to kill
The Croat when we found him.
You chose the light.
That was the best decision you've made.
Choose the light today.
Even though it was a dark scene,
it was a joy to shoot it with her
because she just brought
such grace and professionalism
on those days where we
had to shoot that scene.
- [CLAPPERBOARD CLACKS]
- Action!
It was freezing. It
was another cold day.
And it was a little bit challenging
because I had to split
that scene in half.
We did half the stomper walking one day,
and then came back and had to
pick up from that rageful scene.
You're like in full rage.
[GRUNTING]
[SHOUTING]
And they're like, "Okay, that's a wrap."
And then the next morning
they're like, "Full rage."
[CHUCKLES]
- Hey. Everything okay?
- Yeah. I'm good.
And then Jimmi looked so creepy
with that friggin' cut on his face.
It's like Joker best friend vibes.
- Wait, wait, what are you doing?
- I'm gonna kill Negan.
I just told you we're not doing that.
I don't care, I'm in charge.
I'm in charge.
[GUNSHOT FIRES]
If anyone was gonna kill
me, I wanted it to be Jimmi.
No!
That guy's gonna win an Oscar one day.
I said it, you heard it here first.
That was kind of devastating.
When you're hopping
into the role of someone
who loses respect for
others and their lives,
it's a little off-putting,
but then you kind of
have to just jump right in
and start seeing the perspective.
And she was a problem, so she had to go.
So it wasn't that hard.
- The plan was
- Negan needs to die.
Renata stood in the way,
so Renata needs to die.
I've known Aimee for many, many years,
and when we were coming up
with the character of Renata,
she was the actress that
I really had in mind.
So to be able to actually get
her to play it was a dream.
Aimee has just got this
painfully human intensity
that's so watchable.
You had a birthday last week
when we didn't really
get to be with you,
so we're gonna embarrass you
a little bit more right now.
- Oh, my God.
