Haunted Collector (2011) s03e12 Episode Script

House Of Pain - Antique Spirits

- On this episode Of Haunted Collector We're gonna be an investigating an old Victorian.
Wallis Simpson lived here.
He tied her to the bathtub.
He was severely abusive.
We heard footsteps and there was absolutely no one.
Welcome to Monticello, Florida.
He's here right now.
He's watching.
He did experiments on corpses.
What? - Oh, dude, that's weird.
- What the? Ah! Oh my God, look at that.
- What the? - Ah! My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects - Whoa.
There it goes.
There it goes.
- Oh, my God.
And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris, my daughter Aimee.
Brian my tech guy, Jason my researcher.
And Jesslyn my investigator.
- My job - What is that? Don't touch that thing.
Find the haunted item and remove it.
Because I am the Haunted Collector.
How's it going over there, Chris? Getting anything? No, not really.
Oh, here we go.
Probably should point this out to your dad.
Hey, guys, how's it going? - Hey.
- Good.
Looks like this one's giving me a little bit of a reading.
Well, I'm not surprised by that.
This old metal skull has affected six generations of a family.
And it was used in some serious occult practices.
Well, we got a case that came in from Florida I want you guys to take a look at.
Hi, John, my name is Wesley Odom.
My family owns a historic home, it's over a hundred years old in Pensacola, Florida.
And over the years my wife and family have seen a number of phenomena in our house.
I heard footsteps in the attic and they were so real I thought we had an intruder.
I went into the attic, no one was there.
It truly was frightening.
One time I was downstairs in the parlor, and all of a sudden something was trying to materialize in the room.
It was a reddish glow and it was really frightening.
This made my wife very uncomfortable and my daughter as well, and they just didn't want to talk about it.
Moving's not an option.
We would appreciate, John, if you and your team could come out and investigate our house.
He seems very concerned about this.
So, I think it's important we get in there and investigate.
We're heading to Florida.
Okay, guys, we're gonna be investigating an old Victorian.
Now, you guys got a chance to see the video, what did you guys find out? Well, Wesley's home was built in the year 1900.
I think the craziest thing I found out was Wallis Simpson, lived in the house for a couple years with her first husband.
Wallis Simpson? That name sounds familiar.
Who's that? She's a famous American socialite.
Prince Edward, the Duke of Windsor, left his wife and gave up the thrown to marry her in 1936.
That's very interesting.
Now, another thing we need to keep in mind is Pensacola's had strategic military importance since the early 1700s.
When it became one of the first major settlements in Spanish Florida.
So naturally a lot of battles have taken place in this area over the years.
Interesting.
- Hi, there.
- Hi, Wesley, John Zaffis.
How ya doing? Come on in.
I'm so glad you came.
So tell us exactly what is happening.
Well, we moved in here in 1998 and we've had a number of things happen over time.
It's just very perplexing.
One time my wife was playing the piano here, when there was some sort of burst of energy or whatever, trying to materialize to her right.
It was red in color.
It was really scary.
But it was here for about ten seconds it seemed like.
As you can see, I have a lot of old stuff in the house like these relics right here.
A breastplate uh, swords and whatnot.
Well, you have to remember too, if these are, you know, original and they were involved with battle or anything like that.
Some of that energy can remain with these items.
This is my son's bedroom.
When he was about six or eight years of age, he actually saw an apparition going down the hallway wearing a flowing dress.
My son is kind of spooked by it all.
Has anybody else experienced anything here in the house? Yes, one of my child's friends, Bethany, was downstairs and saw a ghost in the bathroom.
So, I understand you've had some pretty frightening experiences here in the house.
Do you think you could walk me through that? I was sitting right here washing my hands.
I was looking up at the mirror and I just froze right there.
There's this man standing right here, so I turned around and he was not there.
- He just disappeared? - Yes.
Everybody was in the car.
I walked outside and I'm like, Wesley, your house is haunted.
There's something wrong with it.
This was a gift to me by my father-in-law.
It's a Japanese hand grenade.
Yeah, the clay grenades aren't used anymore because they're so unpredictable.
But the idea was that they'd get thrown in and would literally shatter shrapnel all over the place and that's what would do the damage.
Collecting a lot of military artifacts, and having antiques could really stir up activity.
So, this is the attic.
When we were first renovating, my wife and I were downstairs in the bedroom, and I heard clear footsteps in the attic, and my wife heard the same footsteps.
I got my gun, I went up here, and there was no one here.
Absolutely no one.
It was rather frightening.
And then, of course, we have our item here that when, we bought the house it was left behind.
That looks to be an antique money counter.
I think it was used by casinos.
Also used by organized crime.
You have no idea how that ended up here in the house? It was just here? No idea.
I've traced the lineage of people who have owned the house.
No one in organized crime has owned it, but I know that Wallis Simpson lived here.
Okay.
Well, we'll be here for two nights investigating and let's see what we can figure out with this.
I really appreciate your help.
Thank you very much, John.
For tonight's investigation, Jason and I are going to take the main floor.
Chris, Brian, and Jesslyn are going to take the second floor and the attic.
Okay.
A typical E.
M.
F.
here by this clock.
Everything's pretty quiet.
I mean, this carpet's covering all the noises that we're making from walking, so I doubt they'd hear much downstairs.
Yeah.
Hey, Bri, do you know what this is? It's an old money counter.
From what I understand, this is one of the only things that was left that's original to the house.
I'm not getting any readings off of it.
Let's move downstairs and see if we can't figure out what's going on down there.
Okay.
- Any readings? - Nope.
I'm not really getting anything, dude.
You know what? I think you should try to uh Snap a few shots in here of a couple of these items over here on the fireplace.
Okay, cool.
One of the reasons we like to experiment with Polaroid cameras, in the paranormal is because it's a different development method.
It's different than a digital camera.
It uses chemicals, so you could possibly get a different result using a Polaroid than a regular camera.
- Still no readings? - Nothing.
Okay.
There really isn't anything coming off of anything, dude.
Yeah.
Give those a second to develop.
All right, I'd like to do an E.
V.
P.
Session in this hallway, because they say that they actually saw somebody walk by.
Taking this path, so let's find some answers if we can.
Recorder's ready when you're ready.
Okay, Jesslyn, Brian, and Chris down here on the second floor.
Can you tell us your name? Did you live here? Why are you here? All right, let's bring it in.
Down here on the second floor.
Can you tell us your name? Can you tell me did you live here? Why are you here? Right there.
Why are you here? I hear like a "W".
I hear win.
For sure.
There's a couple different things that it could be.
Okay.
All right, these should be ready.
- That's fine.
- Okay, that's good.
- Okay.
- Nothing there.
- That's fine.
- That looks fine.
Yeah, those are all normal.
What the heck? Ah, dude, that's weird.
It's literally melted on the spot where the armor is.
You know what? Try to take another picture.
I'm just curious.
Flashing.
What the [Bleep.]
? You know what? Try to take another picture.
I'm just curious.
Flashing.
- What the? - Holy [Bleep.]
! - Are you freaking serious, dude? - Yeah, the poker.
Did you see if that was in here, like, securely? The both of us were in this area.
That wasn't out then.
We both walked behind this little couch chair.
Okay, that's just weird, man.
Well, I definitely want you guys to take that armor to be checked out tomorrow.
I'm just curious to see what you can find out about it.
Cool.
So last night during the investigation, me and John had what seemed like a lot of activity centered around this piece of old armor.
So, at this point I want to take the piece of armor down to Andy, he's an expert in military collectibles, and just see what I can find out about it.
What it looks like you have here is a Spanish breastplate.
Does this particular piece of armor have any significance here in Pensacola? Well, the Spanish were in Pensacola.
They first settled here in 1698.
They set up a fort and a settlement, and then in 1707, the British, who had allied themselves with the Creek Indians, attempted to take and capture that particular fort and settlement.
They made two separate attempts and both those attempts failed.
But there was a lot of bloodshed during those battles.
Wow.
I'm noticing this little divot right here.
When they were made, they would actually test 'em by firing a musket ball at 'em, and that's what this dent is from.
This piece shows quite a bit of age, and over here there's some other dents.
It could've been caused by a tip of an arrow or possibly the tip of a sword.
Potentially, this piece of armor could have been from a battle.
- Yes.
- Wow.
So, it was very interesting to find out that this is the same type of armor they would've been wearing and this particular Garrison saw a lot of violence.
I'm gonna have to bring this to John and see where this takes us tonight.
So it turns out the armor it's a Spanish make.
There was a Spanish Garrison here and there was a siege that occurred there.
Really violent.
But this is the exact type of armor they would've been wearing.
That's pretty wild.
Last night downstairs where Wesley reported, seeing a figure pass by the doorways, we did an E.
V.
P.
Session.
I was able to clean it up, so take a listen to this.
Why are you here? Sounds like we're hearing win.
.
I don't know if this ties in or not, but I was doing some research today, about people who used to live in the house.
And I learned that when Wallis Simpson lived here, she lived here with her first husband.
His name was Earl Winfield Spencer, Junior.
He went by the name Win.
That was his nickname.
All right, that's interesting.
Let's get in and see what we can find out, guys.
Could the E.
V.
P.
we captured be referring to Wallis Simpson's first husband? It could be a coincidence, but it's definitely something to look into.
Tonight, Jess will man the monitors in the attic.
Chris and I will check out the second floor.
And Brian and Jason will investigate the main level.
I'm very curious to see what we can come up with.
Well, let's check the grenade out over here.
I'm just curious to see if there's anything on it at all.
Dad, did they say that these are authentic? The grenade is authentic, it's just never been used or, you know, filled or anything like that.
So, I don't know that there really would be any type of energy with it just from being manufactured.
Yeah.
- Nothing? - I'm not getting too much.
You know what? We can probably Tub's gonna take a while to fill up so we might as well get that started.
Okay.
So, given the amount of activity that's been reported in this bathroom, I think this a perfect place to implement this submerged recorder experiment.
By placing a recorder underneath the water, all sound, including our voices, will be distorted by it.
But if we do get an E.
V.
P.
, I mean, it should be crystal clear.
Awesome.
First underwater E.
V.
P.
Session.
Did you used to live here in this home? Are you trying to scare people in the home? Do you want them out of here? Do you know Wallis Simpson? Was this your bathtub? I think maybe we should listen back.
Yeah, let's do it, man.
Extracting recorder.
All right.
Did you used to live here in this home? Are you trying to scare people in the home? Do you want them out of here? Do you know Wallis Simpson? Did you hear that? Do you know Wallis Simpson? Yeah, right there.
What is that? It almost sounds like someone crying or a moan or something like that.
It's like a whimper.
What the [Bleep.]
is going on up here? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
These meters are going insane.
I can hear, like, something happening Behind me.
Like some sort of Like noises.
Like something's in the walls.
I'm gonna check this out.
Hello? Whoa! Oh [Bleep.]
no! Meters are still going off.
Ah! Holy [Bleep.]
! Ah! Holy [Bleep.]
! That door flew open on its own.
All right, I'm gonna call John before I proceed.
- You okay, Jess? - What happened up there? The REM pods were going off and then you know those like doors in the wall? - Mm hmm.
- One of 'em slammed open.
Really? And that's when I got the hell out of there.
You're fine.
That's what counts.
Well, we did the experiment in the bathroom.
We did get an E.
V.
P.
it sounded like a woman sobbing.
Oh, that's interesting.
I'll tell you what, after what's going on in here tonight, I got a funny feeling this might be tying in with this Wallis Simpson.
I got my hunches with this one.
We have an E.
V.
P.
saying, Win, the name of Wallis Simpson's former husband.
And we captured the sounds of what could be a woman crying.
So, I'm inviting a local historian named Eric Schmitz to the house.
He knows all about Wallis Simpson.
Wallis Simpson met this dashing young aviator, and his name was Earl Winfield Spencer, Junior.
His friends called him Win.
She fell madly in love with this man.
They got married.
She was probably on cloud nine at the time.
But what she didn't realize is that he was an alcoholic.
Severely abusive.
He reportedly locked her on a Sunday afternoon in the bathroom once.
He tied her to the bathtub.
He disappears for hours.
Goes out on a drinking binge.
He was known to destroy her family photographs.
- Toss them into the fireplace.
- Oh, into the fireplace? - Yeah.
- All right.
The torment and the abuse half of Wallis' soul was probably destroyed in this house.
I couldn't disagree with ya.
It's clear Wallis Simpson suffered in this house.
And it makes me wonder if the negative energy, is still lingering here after all these years.
- Wesley, thank you for having us in.
- Thank you very much.
We did definitely get some activity in the house.
The first evening we captured an E.
V.
P.
And I'd like you to listen to that.
Sure.
Why are you here? .
Wow.
- That's scary.
- Can you tell what it's saying? - Yeah, it says, Win.
- You're right.
Absolutely amazing.
As we know, Wallis Simpson had lived here with her husband Win.
Correct.
One thing we did find out was he was extremely abusive to her.
He would lock her in the room, he would beat her.
He would destroy her family photographs.
He would rip them up and He would throw them into the fireplace and burn them.
Wow.
We had taken several different pictures and this one here was taken over on the armor here.
It's almost like it was a reenactment that took place.
Wow, that's amazing.
So, after hearing, you know, this horror story of what Wallis went through here in this home.
Is it a possibility that these walls can hold on to part of her soul? Yes.
It just blows me away.
I'll probably be doing a binding on that, and throwing some sea salt into the interior of the fireplace for ya.
Sure.
Let's hope that we can bring some peace to Wallis.
That sounds wonderful.
I know my son and daughter and my wife too will be glad that we got some resolution to this.
That's what counts.
No one should suffer the way Wallis Simpson did.
And if the pain she endured still lingers here I hope by binding the home, we can finally release some of the negative energy That dwells within this house.
Hi, John, my name's Joann Overly, and I live in a small town called Monticello, Florida.
My Mother and I have an antique shop called Palmer House Antiques.
We have so much paranormal activity here, it's scared customers off and we've had to close the shop.
We've had objects moving, seeing Somebody looking out the window when we're closed.
The scariest experience I had is when I saw an image.
He was black and blue and he went through my body.
People just won't come here anymore.
We need to get on with our lives.
This is our livelihood.
We need your help tremendously.
Okay, guys, here we are in Monticello, Florida.
We're going to investigate an antique store.
What were you able to find out? This area has kind of seen some tough times.
Seminole Wars, battles in The Civil War.
I know downtown was pretty much almost burned completely down by a fire.
And even a shootout in front of the Courthouse back in the '30s.
I mean, this is a pretty large antique shop.
There's literally thousands of items.
This could be like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Which you gotta remember, Jess, is not all antiques are haunted.
It's rare and far and few in between.
- Hi, Joann, John Zaffis.
- Hi.
- This is my daughter Aimee.
- Hi, Aimee.
- Nice to meet you.
- Please come in.
Okay.
Welcome to our home.
My Mother Jackie bought the house in 1989.
Mom and I named this house the Palmer house.
Because the house was built in 1836 By Dr.
Thomas Palmer.
He was the local Doctor here.
This is a lifelong dream that we've had collecting, buying, reselling the antiques.
We'd just like to take care of this problem so that we can have a business again.
Joann, are you open for business now? No, we're closed because people are afraid to come in here.
It's not an antique shop anymore, it's a haunted house.
They did experiments on corpses.
He said, ah! This is crazy, dude.
Holy [Bleep.]
! Ah! Joann, what are some of the experiences that people are telling you that they're having in this building? Customers they would feel tightness in their chest.
- Mm hmm.
- And they would leave.
They said, that we're never coming back.
We just didn't really know what was going on at first.
Okay, did you have a lot of activity or things happen here in this room? I would hear movement, footsteps And think that we would still have customers, but no one would be in here.
Okay did you check with the employees to see if they were moving things around when they were cleaning? Yes.
We even had a camera system in.
And alarm system.
The alarm would go off and the police would come, no one would be here.
This is something we found in the house.
It's a 666 formula.
A cough formula, that Dr.
Palmer had invented.
The 666 elixir was a quinine solution, that was used in small doses to treat malaria.
But if you were taking too much, it could result in death and severe nerve damage.
Wow.
666, as you know, is associated today with the Devil.
Does that mean that Dr.
Palmer might have been involved with something like that? At this point, we really don't know anything about that but, we'll research it and see what we can find out.
This is what we call the purple room.
We've had customers complain and leave the shop.
Saying they were touched in this room, and Dr.
Palmer actually killed himself in this room.
He committed suicide.
He shot himself in the head.
And this effigy doll The character will move from room to room.
We find it in different places in the house all the time.
Okay, what areas have you found it in? In the back room, the living room, in the hallway by the front door.
The purpose of the effigy dolls was, if a parent didn't have a photograph of their deceased child.
They would take a cast of the deceased child's face, and they would create a doll and make a likeness of their children.
Joann, I know your mom's very involved with everything here.
Does she have any experiences? Oh, yes.
Can you tell me a little bit about the activity that you have going on here? I was sitting on the couch over here and a lady, came through the dining room door.
Into this room with a beautiful chiffon-like dress on.
She had long hair, beautiful.
She just sort of drifted to where you're standing.
And she just disappeared from - When she stopped here.
- Was there anybody else in the house? No, I was here all alone with all the doors locked.
This is not a favorite room of mine.
This was my first encounter with Dr.
Palmer, who I believe.
Mom and I were sorting papers out of a trunk.
And something went through my body.
It was a bearded man that was black and blue.
He made a sound.
He said, ah! And that's really the last thing I remember.
- I blacked out.
- Okay.
I have a picture that mom found in some of the belongings, and I believe that is Dr.
Palmer.
Okay.
And that's exactly who went through my body that day.
I had no idea mom had that.
He's here right now.
Where do you feel he is? He's watching.
- You feel that he's watching you? - Mm hmm.
Okay.
- Any other things in here? - Yes.
- This was found in the house.
- Okay.
I guess it was some type of measuring device.
And these articles here also.
Well, I'm not quite sure what these are.
Iron items, huh? Yeah, they look like iron.
It looks like the way iron oxidizes would cause this type of rust.
Mm-hmm.
All right, Jo, we're gonna get in here with the team.
We'll be in here for two nights investigating.
We'll do everything we can to see what we can figure out what's happening here.
- Okay, thank you so much.
- Oh, you're welcome, Sweetie.
There's a lot of things in this antique store.
Customers are getting literally scared to come in here.
Joann has shut the store down.
We need to get in here, check in, and see what is going on.
All right, let's take a look at the carriage first.
I want to inspect it, get some readings off of it.
I'm not getting anything.
So now this has moved rooms? Yes.
That's weird because it looks like this tire is busted.
- It wouldn't move on its own.
- It shouldn't.
So, either it would take a lot of energy or someone would have to do it.
The reports have been that this baby carriage keeps moving from one room to another.
So, Chris and I are going to move the carriage to another room to see if we can provoke any of the spirits to move it as well.
We're gonna be using bells attached to ropes to try to, trap the doorways down here on the first floor, as well as this baby carriage.
So, if something goes to move it, the bells will let us know.
We should here that.
All right, while we're in here, this is what I wanted to check out.
- What the hell's that? - 666 Malarial.
We do know Dr.
Palmer made this, but I don't know why it's 666.
For dosage for distresses of cold see carton.
So, they would take this for colds and malaria.
A little spooky, if you ask me.
Very interesting.
I'm not getting any readings off of it, though.
Me neither.
This little bucket was left behind and they found a couple of these items.
I was curious to see if they get any readings at all.
The other items that are here too, Jess, that they found.
I'm not sure what that even is, but Looks like some piece of medical equipment.
I'm not really getting too much in here.
All right, let's go check that other room out.
All right.
Let's try an E.
V.
P.
Session in here.
- Okay.
- Okay, let's see.
Did you come here with something? Does something here belong to you? Did you run your business out of here? - What was that? - I don't know.
It sounds like in the other room, though.
Let's go check it out.
Shh.
Bells? Go, go, go! Dude, check it.
These ones were still moving when I got in here.
All right, this one isn't moving, so it's not like it was a draft.
The baby carriage didn't seem to move.
Ooh.
- What? - I just got a spike.
What? Give me some light.
What? - Wasn't that full before? - Yeah.
This is crazy, dude.
Check the is anything - It's not wet.
- How the hell did that empty? Dude, I have no idea.
Did we leave this up like this? No, it stays up like that.
Wait, it's filled with water.
- You're kidding me.
- What? - Holy [Bleep.]
! - What the hell is going on? Did we leave this up like this? No, it stays up like that.
Wait, it's filled with water.
- You're kidding me.
- What? Holy [Bleep.]
! That was not like that.
No, everything was dry.
That window is boarded up.
What is happening? I don't know.
- Hey.
- How you doing? I kinda don't know what's going on downstairs.
What happened? That 666 bottle, the liquid that was formerly in it, not twenty minutes before, was drained out.
Really? There's actually liquid inside this bucket now.
- Was there a liquid in there before? - No.
It was totally dry.
We're losing liquid, you're gaining liquid.
- Right.
- That's just weird.
Let's get the liquid tested tomorrow.
All right, guys, let's wrap up.
So, last night's investigation there was a lot of very strange activity.
Specifically, there was some liquid that showed up in a bucket.
So Aimee's to get that tested to see what she can find out about it.
I'm going to head down to the city clerk's office to speak to a local historian see what I can find out about this Doctor that lived in the home previously.
Our client Joann had mentioned there was a local physician by the name of Dr.
Palmer.
That lived in the house and he apparently committed suicide there.
So, she wanted to see if you knew anything about that.
Actually, there was two Dr.
Palmers that did live in the home.
The first Dr.
Palmer that did commit suicide was Dr.
Thomas Palmer.
Affectionately known by the local folks as Tom.
He was a surgeon during The Civil War.
When he returned home in 1895, he was very despondent and he did commit suicide in the house.
- By shooting himself in one of the rooms.
- Really? After Dr.
Tom died.
The home then went to his nephew Dr.
John Dabney Palmer.
He was the town Doctor, he also was a brilliant chemist.
And he did invent an elixir that was later patented as 666.
And it cured many, many of the town folks from malaria.
So, do you know why he called it 666? He did not give it a name.
But it was on prescription log number 666.
And the patent office simply patented it as 666 elixir.
Okay.
Now, even by today's standards Dr.
Dabney Palmer, would be considered quite unorthodox.
- What do you mean? - He was also the town undertaker.
Really? And his mortuary was upstairs on the property.
Really? He believed when somebody died, they must be buried with their blood.
After he drained the blood from the body, he would take the blood out to the cemetery.
And he would pour the blood inside the fresh grave.
Wow.
It was also rumored that he did experiment on the corpses.
What do you mean by experimented on the corpses? He would extract some of the uh Body parts and do testing on it.
Do you know what became of Dr.
Dabney? In 1909 he, fell down his stairs, and hit his head on a spittoon at the bottom of the staircase.
And a few days later he died from the head injury.
A lot of tragedy inside this house.
I'd say so.
I took these to the lab today.
This is the elixir and this is Whatever substance that you guys thought had appeared in that bucket.
And I tested them against each other and it turns out they're not the same thing.
This is actually just rusty water.
So, I'm not really sure what's going on in this building.
Hmm, all right, that's interesting.
The liquid in the bucket may not be the elixir, and we still don't know how it got there.
Or how the elixir in the bottle drained on its own, but we do know about two Dr.
Palmers who died in this house.
This is opening up a lot of possibilities for tonight.
Chris will man the monitors.
Jess, Brian, and I will check out the first floor.
And Aimee and Jason will investigate the second floor.
So, this is the bucket? This is the bucket and this is also the room where Joann, saw the black and blue apparition of a man.
- She's terrified to come up here.
- Wow.
I brought the thermal.
I'm going to do a quick scan of this room.
Any temperature differential.
All right, I'm recording.
And so far nothing's coming up.
It's all normal.
You're not getting any readings, are you? No.
I gotta see.
It's just so odd.
I mean, where did it go? I don't know.
Not really any readings from any of us, so.
- Nothing.
- You wanna try the spirit box in here? - Yeah.
- Let's see.
Turning on speaker.
Can you tell us your name? Did you live here? Can you tell me what year it is? It sounds like the bells.
We took down the bells after we investigated last night, so there shouldn't be anymore.
I think it came from over in there.
Yeah, the bells are down.
Where could that have come from? Let's keep going with the spirit box in here.
All right.
Starting the sweep.
Dr.
Palmer, either of you, are you here with us? Did you do any of the experiments here in this house? .
- Yes.
- That's the younger one.
Yes.
What were you trying to accomplish? Ah! What were you trying to accomplish? Ah! - What the [Bleep.]
! - That was breathing.
- That was breathing - That was really loud breathing.
And my meter just dead.
So did mine.
- Mine went off, too.
- Totally dead.
Everything over here is wood, metal, and porcelain it's not like there's anything with a bladder or a bag that could've expelled air.
- The window is not open.
- It was definitely male.
Wow.
- Holy [Bleep.]
! - What? Oh my God, look at that.
These are blue, the bucket's blue, but that thing look at that.
- It's freaking bright orange.
- That's crazy.
This was one of the items Joann found in the house when they moved in.
- All right, I'm gonna call your dad.
- All right.
- Hey, what's going on? - Okay, so look at this.
Oh wow.
All right, I wanna get this device, because it looks like some type of a medical device to me.
I want to get it to somebody tomorrow to see what I can find out about it.
We had some activity around some items in the upstairs bedroom.
I have a feeling they belong to the Palmer family, I'm just not quite sure at this point how they're tying in.
So today I'm getting together with Malcolm Mason.
He's an antiques expert in the area.
Hopefully, he can share some information on these items.
Well, this here actually appears like it may have been a handle to something, possibly a casket or something along those lines.
You can see the way the holes are situated where it actually screw into whatever it was holding.
I would say it probably dates early twentieth century, possibly late nineteenth century.
Okay.
- And this one here.
- This is a beauty.
This is actually what's know as a trepanning tool.
And these were actually used to open holes in human skulls.
Okay.
They would be used for all sorts of things from simple headaches to mental illness.
It probably dates to early twentieth century, maybe turn of the century.
Somewhere in that period.
You can see the point here, and it would be hand operated.
So, you actually would drill into a skull, and generally when you're doing that, there would be no anesthesia.
Often used on live individuals and so you can only imagine what they must've gone through when using this instrument.
Certainly a crude procedure and very painful procedure.
Okay.
So, would this have been used on dead bodies as well? Sure, on cadavers.
Yeah, for medical research on the brain, things such as that, certainly.
- Okay.
- Yep.
We did find that this tool dates back to the time that the younger Dr.
Palmer was here.
We also know that he was a mortician and may have experimented on corpses.
I think there's a strong possibility that he was the owner of this medical instrument.
At this point in time, I think I've got some very good information for Joann.
Joann, I thank you for inviting us in.
We've been here for two evenings investigating.
And we came up with quite a bit.
We decided to look into the Palmer family.
We know that Dr.
Thomas Palmer built the house, and that he did die here in the house.
But what we also learned was that he had a nephew whose name was Dabney Palmer, and he was a physician, a pharmacist, and a mortician.
He ran his mortuary here out of the house until 1909, when he fell down the stairs here and died, and he had a lot of strange practices.
He liked to bury people with their blood in the grave.
- With their own blood? - Yeah.
He would pour the blood in the bottom of the grave and then put the bodies in it.
That is so bizarre.
And he's actually the one that invented the 666 elixir.
Not Dr.
Thomas Palmer.
Joann, I'd like to play a little piece of footage for you of something captured here in this room.
As you can see, this item is hotter than everything else around it.
What this item is is that they would put it up to the skull and they would start drilling into the head.
Oh my God.
It also dates to the early 1900s, so it may have belonged to the younger Dr.
Palmer.
I do feel that there's definitely some negative energy, attached to this particular item.
And right now I'd like to know what you would like to do.
- Take it out.
- All right.
Hopefully, by us coming in, we're gonna be able to help you guys reopen the store.
And fulfill your dreams.
- Thank you so much.
- Okay.
We'll never know exactly what Dr.
Palmer, was trying achieve with his bizarre experiments.
But I'm hoping by removing this crude device, the Palmer house will finally be free of any pain and darkness attached to it.
