Project Runway: All Stars (2012) s04e03 Episode Script

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Previously on Project Runway: All Stars It's the unconventional challenge.
[Air horn blows.]
Oh, my God.
We go from team challenge to, like, animalistic mayhem.
Hey, you're stealing my [Bleep.]
! Oh, my God.
Justin is a genius.
It's perfection.
That's like some kind of wonderful bird.
Thank you.
I love this dress.
Thank you.
It almost reads like a lacquered tweed.
The winner this week is Justin--yay.
I have never won one challenge in the entire Project Runway.
It's not terribly flattering on her, and the silhouette is taking it so '80s.
This is not enough.
It just looks like another pretty dress in the department store.
The eliminated designer is Alexandria.
14 of the best designers from Project Runway are back.
And this time, the competition is bigger than ever.
Each week, their skills are tested to the limit as they compete for the largest prize in runwahistory.
Who will be cut, and who will have it all sewn up? This is Project Runway: All Stars.
What do you think we're doing? We are going to the gershwin theatre, and as we were walking up, i realized it's wicked.
You guys, I don't think we're at Parsons anymore.
This looks so cool.
I love the smoke.
I'm surrounded in, like, smoke machine.
It's kind of overwhelming, and I don't know what's coming next.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh.
All: Hey! How about this for an entrance, huh? Oh, my God.
Alyssa descends from the heavens in a bubble.
What could be better than this? Designers, welcome to the gershwin theatre, home of the Broadway production of wicked.
This musical has become a global phenomenon seen by over 42 million people worldwide.
It's the story of the good witch glinda and the wicked witch of the west before Dorothy arrived in oz.
Wicked's theme is that there are two sides to every story, and that's a little clue to this week's challenge.
Please welcome the current witches of oz, Broadway stars Christine dwyer and jenni barber.
Hi.
[Applause.]
Trying not to freaking fan girl out right now, 'cause i want to.
Well, you may know my character elphaba as the wicked witch of the west.
And my character's known as glinda the good.
But in wicked the musical, we learn that things may be deceiving, and what you thought was wicked may actually be good and vice versa.
One of the best parts about being in wicked is getting to wear Susan hilferty's Tony award-winning designs.
They are fabulous, couture inspired, one-of-a-kind creations.
The black dress that the witch is wearing right now is what inspired me to go into fashion.
This is coming full circle for me.
Designers, the theme of this week's challenge is good or wicked.
As a tribute to glinda and elphaba's famous rivalry, let's make this a fashion face-off.
Ooh.
Uh-oh.
We're having a fashion face-off.
Surprise, bitch.
You will each face off against another designer.
There will be a high score and a low score awarded within each pair.
In elphaba's famous hat, there are six good cards and six wicked cards.
Justin, you won last week's challenge, so you can pick first.
Come on up.
I don't like that I'm going head-to-head with Justin because I like him, and I'm gonna have to take him down.
Yes.
Yes! I am faced off against Kate.
I refer to her as the evening wear princess, and that's just so out of my realm.
So I feel like she automatically has a slight edge against me.
All: Ohh! Going head-to-head with Helen has me a little worried because Helen's really good.
I have my competition set out for me.
I'm super intimidated going against Chris.
I mean, he does gowns.
He's dressed meryl streep.
He's a force to be reckoned with.
It's pretty terrifying.
I am paired up against Sam, and I really like her, but that doesn't stop me from taking her down.
So I got the wicked and Gunnar got the good.
Obviously, he's gonna lose the challenge to me.
There's not even a question about it.
Your challenge is to create a couture-inspired gown which conveys of wicked or good.
I may look like a good girl, but I got a naughty side too.
I want to explore it a little bit.
Couture by definition means hundreds of hours of detailed work.
You only have two days.
Oh, boy.
Only two days.
Couture, it's one of a kind.
It's lot of handwork and lots of details, and that's how I work.
So that's the perfect challenge for me.
You're gonna sketch here before shopping at mood with your budget of $250 each.
What? Thank you so much to Christine and jenni, and I'll see you guys on the runway in two days.
You're not supposed to say good luck in the theatre, so break a leg.
I think I'm ready to sketch.
I'm ready to sketch better.
So I'm creating a good look, and my vision is to create this beautiful, kind of structural short dress that will have an overlay dress that will fasten at the waist, but because it isn't my realm, I am very nervous about it.
How do you spell brooch? I'm sketching one-sleeve asymmetrical gown.
The flames symbolize the wicked, and I think it's a great graphic detail.
I am doing good, so my vision is very sleek and upscale.
I want to put pants with a gown because no one else would think that way.
Okay, guys.
It's time to go to mood.
Wait for us.
We're coming.
Guys, we have 30 minutes to shop.
Spending somebody else's money.
Couture for $250 is nuts.
Boning.
Where's boning? Excuse me.
My design style is definitely more wicked.
It's just what naturally comes from me, and I see this awesome, sequined material.
And so I go with that.
It's gonna be really sexy and tig, and then it's gonna have, like, a big, flirty hem.
Then I'll need five and five.
Okay.
Could I get five yards of this? Yeah.
I chose wicked, so my outfit isn't gonna be black like most people's.
It's gonna be gray.
And so my idea is to make a long, fishtail dress.
I think it's very show stopping.
You guys, 15 minutes! Ooh, this is a workout, Ben.
This is workout.
Let's go this way.
Working here.
Okay.
Then it's just gonna be pegged all ruffle.
I got good, so I'm gonna do all of these crazy ruffles out of silk organza, and just kind of taper them down to the floor.
I want to, like, bring something really fresh 'cause I want to win it.
I know I can't afford all of this.
I got you, girl.
I got you.
Thank you! Time, guys! All: Thank you, mood.
Love it.
Something tells me they put the evil players together.
We might be enemies on the runway in a-- in a day or two.
They're both gonna be so good we're gonna have a tie.
It sucks that I have to go against Chris.
It really does because he's, I think, one of my closest friends here.
But it's important for me to win this challenge definitely.
You know, the more the judges see me in the bottom, they're just mentally gonna be like, "ugh.
" Am I regal and whatever? I love that.
What is it? Lace? Oh, sonjia, I love.
I feel like there's definitely some stiff competition with sonjia.
It's making me really push myself to be edgy.
I mean, look at sonjia.
She's so edgy.
I need to, like, meet that halfway.
Fabio was the winner of the first challenge.
I was the winner last week, and so you have two winners competing against each other.
I know how talented fabio is, so I'm intimidated, but I'm excited too.
Oh.
So it's a gown in the front, completely backless And then pants.
Got you, bitch.
I think the biggest risk that I'm taking is that I'm not going traditionally with a gown, but I'm feeling confident.
Obviously, Justin is a talented designer, but I think this is what's gonna settle the scores.
I really want to beat dmitry, dude.
What? I really want to beat dmitry.
That's my [Bleep.]
I'm sure.
Goal in life right now.
I love dmitry, but I want to beat him so bad.
Good God.
Like, I don't even care.
I could go home next week as long as I beat him on this one.
It's not gonna be easy.
Oh, no, for nobody.
He underestimates me completely as a designer, and I would love to kick his ass.
That's time.
Let's go.
We're done for the day.
Off we go.
All right, let's get down to the get-down.
Gunnar has a lot to do today.
Who is Gunnar? Who's Gunnar? I'm gonna-- it's gonna be pegged.
Does that--but does that detail continue down? Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I feel very confident with my design, but I'm looking over at Helen's, and I'm seeing all of the technique that she's using, and I am feeling a little bit of heat.
Stop talking.
Get working.
Keep going.
I'm gonna do all of these crazy ruffles out of silk organza and taper them down to the floor.
Hopefully, I can just, like, nail this.
I call them feathers, but it's actually organza.
Yeah.
And I'm gonna tie that all into the embroidery.
Oh, Helen's dress is fantastic.
She's going way further than anybody else.
I'm just trying to get mine done and have some time to, like, work it, you know, like-- we get it.
My design will be beautiful if it--like, if it's executed the right way, but I'm not gonna lie.
Jay's is, like, gorgeous, and so I just need to make sure that mine is equally as beautiful with a little bit of an edge.
We shall see.
You have to hand sew it? Yeah 'cause to machine sew it, it's gonna ripple the charmeuse.
Mm.
This design is risky for me because it is so far out of my comfort zone.
For the past two challenges, I've made pretty, white dresses, which, don't get me wrong, I make my living off of pretty white dresses, but let's see if I can do a wickedly pretty dress.
Hello, all-stars.
How we doing? All: Hi.
Okay, fun challenge: To create couture inspired gowns based on the themes wicked or good.
Now obviously, every week's very important to win, but this week we have a super special prize.
Your winning design will be displayed in the gershwin theatre for everyone to see.
Oh, my.
I mean-- that's amazing.
This is epic exposure, so we're gonna start with Mr.
Chris march.
All right.
Hello, young man.
Hi.
Oh, young.
Thank you.
Are you good? Or are you wicked? Wicked.
Wicked.
Over this basic gray stretch-wool, fishtail dress, there is going to be this big petticoat that I've been working on.
This can't look at all crafty.
Right.
Concentrate on that win.
Okay.
Because it's an epic prize.
I will.
All right.
But unfortunately, I have to beat Michelle.
Well, that's the thing about this challenge, you guys, is that basically, you've got one piece of competition, and then that's whoever you've been paired with.
Yeah.
I wish I hated her.
Looking at Chris's, it kind of feels like it needs to be in, like, the best little whorehouse in Texas.
I fell like my dress is a lot stronger than his.
Minimal is fine, but it has to be exceptionally well done when it comes to couture.
Yes.
Tell me about your wicked witch over here.
I wanted to make something dramatic because the show is dramatic, so I went with traditional black.
Craftsmanship is great.
This is a couture challenge.
It has to have a wow factor to it.
Absolutely.
And who are you up against? My friend Gunnar.
So he's a good witch.
Gunnar the good.
Dmitry's look is like a Nancy kerrigan gone wild look.
It's like ready to hit the ice.
This right now feels a little bit old-fashioned to me.
Mm-hmm.
You played it safe, and I think you need to push it.
Okay.
I have wicked for this competition.
I presume so.
[Chuckles.]
Tell me, who are you facing off with? I'm facing off with fabio.
And how are you feeling about that, 'cause both of you have been winners? I know, and we got so close over this time we're here, so it's kind of tough competing.
That's really sweet.
I mean, we're still friends.
We are.
We'll survive.
Good luck.
Thank you.
Remember your competition.
Will do.
I am pairing it with pants, and also with this idea that she's harnessed into the gown.
Oh, that's already bad? I feel like there is one too many ideas here.
Mm-hmm.
This has to look like a gown.
Right.
You saw what happened to Alexandria last week.
Mm-hmm.
She leaves the table saying, "remember what happened to Alexandria last week.
She went home, and I don't want to go home, so not a good critique.
You're obviously good.
Yes.
Who is the wicked to your good? Little evil smile over there.
I really wanted to do kind of this very regal, hopefully not costumey look.
I think you've got a very modern silhouette.
I see you in this, and I see a couture dress, which is awesome.
High five.
Well done.
I cannot get over the irony that you pulled the wicked look.
I was actually really excited.
Okay, so we've had two white dresses from you.
Yes.
And this is clearly the antithesis of both of those dresses.
Exactly.
Avoid every bone in your body that's taking it to a costume place.
Absolutely.
What have you done to your hand? It's from making ruffles.
Yeah, both my hands went numb.
Gosh.
Making this? Yeah.
Use this sparingly.
Mm-hmm.
This fabric could read-- quinceaƱera.
No, looking like a shower loofah.
Right.
Like, you've got this beautiful dress-- shh.
Sorry.
As much as I was thinking I was gonna just come in second to Helen, now I'm feeling like actually maybe I do have a shot to be number one.
My dress is wicked.
She's wicked here.
She has a split here.
She's wicked there.
Mm-hmm.
You've got tough competition today.
I know.
I've seen Helen's dress.
I know.
I've seen Helen's dress.
Don't go predictable in any way, shape, or form.
Maybe a wide-legged pant is gonna look more elegant.
I like your advice a lot.
Right now, it's dullsville.
This is boring as hell.
Okay.
Seriously.
Okay.
You need to take some Sam, inject that into this dress, and make it the most killer cool couture gown.
Okay.
For this challenge, I don't think Sam is my competition because this isn't really her forte as a fashion designer.
I feel confident that I could win this.
I want you guys to all remember this is the couture challenge.
Get rid of anything that resembles crafty and replace it with exquisite details.
All right, good luck.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
So Zanna leaves, and I decide to start over because I'm going home with what I already have on the mannequin.
So I take the material that I decide to work with, which is the sequins, and I decide to make it the main feature.
I think you should kind of still put the pant under there-- no, no, the pant is not going anywhere.
Trust.
Trust and believe.
After Zanna's critiques, I'm really out of place.
I'm switching a little bit the game plan.
I'm draping a second dress, just so I have two options to try on my model.
Hey, girl.
Maybe it will work this way.
I don't know [Bleep.]
.
This one is a lot of pins, so let's be careful.
When the model comes around, I have two dresses to fit on her: One that I love, and then one that I like.
Okay, so pants fit.
I need a light.
Can you hit my head and tell me what to do? One thought.
I love this, but are you gonna hear Isaac Mizrahi say, "it looks like a apron?" Or a bride of Frankenstein.
You guys are, like, [Bleep.]
My life up.
They're all talking about fabio dress.
For half an hour speaking about, "hmm.
This dart? No.
" It's like, "seriously?" But I would wear this.
But I-- if I were a woman.
It's called the workroom, not the talk room.
So if they want to talk, let them talk.
I will work.
I get excited when I see it.
Let's do it.
Listen, thank you for everything.
Bye.
Go, go, girl.
That's gonna be beautiful.
Yeah, Sam.
The sparkle is really beautiful.
Did y'all tell Alexandria this last week? Let me know.
I'm missing a piece.
I've got, like, leather bits in my eye.
I think some dresses are being completely scratched.
I feel fine.
I see some other people are freaking out.
I can't figure this out.
Oh, my God.
Time's flying.
I have to finish the outfit.
I still have to finish the pants.
I have to do the hem.
I have to do the waist.
All right, you guys, it's time.
Let's go.
I have never felt this much anxiety in ever.
Bye, couture.
See you tomorrow.
We're back in the workroom.
Oh, look, she's so pretty.
It didn't get finished.
This is bull[Bleep.]
.
I'm just kind of running things through my head, like, exactly what I'm gonna do as soon as I see my model, and the major thing is just to get it complete.
And then if there's time, iron, steam, and make it look decent.
I don't know.
Sitting next to Sam and looking at the piece that she's working on, it's all over the place.
I feel confident that I'm gonna with this competition.
This is what makes this piece couture.
Hand stitch.
Models.
Models are here.
Hello.
Hi.
Oh, are they here? Hello, model ladies.
How are you? How's it going? Hey, how are you? This is your skirt.
I have a lot to do, so you should get naked so I can fit you.
Here comes the dress.
I'm feeling really good.
I love the way my dress looks.
It looks great on my model.
I think it's one of the best ones.
Keep this up to the right spot.
Chris dress is not my personal-- I don't like it, okay? Ugh.
Give the drama, like--you know? Yeah.
Dmitry.
Dima.
You can tell that he was a ballroom dancer 'cause he just made a ballroom gown.
I don't know how couture it is except for the fact that you can see her cooter, so it's cooter-ture.
All right, girl, let's go to the chi hair care salon, get your hair done.
Tuck it all up and under.
I want to kind of-- so like a really large, oversized, like, little bun.
Yes.
So I want to do just a center part, really Valentino.
We're gonna do double braids right close to the head.
That'll come back.
I take my model to the Mary kay color design studio.
What I'm thinking is a non-existent eye, like either white or nude.
I just want to go kind of like dark and mysterious a little bit, her eyes-- so we're gonna take the Mary Kay at play and just paint on a gorgeous, white eyeliner.
Okay.
From the QVC accessory wall, I pick some beautiful statement pieces.
Okay, perfect.
And I think I have a pretty good chance to win.
So cute.
It's, like, radiating.
My gown is drop-dead gorgeous.
Ready to win this.
Because it's couture challenge and I want to win it-- can you stand like this? Yeah.
Hold for me.
There.
Looking at my finished design and Helen's finished design, they're both amazing, but I'm starting to feel a little bit like maybe wicked is the way forward.
We only have five minutes left.
Can you relax your arm a little bit? At this point, Jay's is amazing.
I love it, so I know that Jay has it, and I'm out.
It is me.
I'm really proud that I stuck to my gut and can nobody tell me that this is not a dress made by me.
All right, let's go, girls.
Let's go.
After you.
The winner of Project Runway: All Stars will be given the chance to create their own capsule collection with QVC and will appear on QVC's spring fashion week A fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position at the magazine as a contributing editor for one year.
Chi hair care will send the winner to stay in a luxury spa resort as a special guest at their international conference in Cancun, Mexico, plus product and staff for an entire year of runway shows.
From Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional makeup artist services for their debut show And from Brother Sewing and embroidery, a complete sewing and crafting studio to launch their line, and $150,000 in cash.
Uh-oh.
Ooh.
All: Ahh.
[Laughs.]
Hello, designers.
All: Hi.
This week we joined forces with the biggest musical on Broadway for a wicked challenge.
You had two days to create couture inspired gowns based on either good or wicked.
You faced off against another designer, so a high score and a low score will be awarded to each pair.
Let's say hello to our judges.
First, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, Isaac Mizrahi.
Hi, kids.
Georgina Chapman is sorry she can't be with us this week, but instead, we are so honored to be joined by one of the most colorful figures in fashion.
Please welcome the fabulous Betsey Johnson.
Hi, guys.
Our next guest is one of the star's of television's biggest comedies.
As the smart and sassy Alex Dunphy, she's won four screen actors guild awards with her fellow cast from modern family.
Please welcome actress Ariel winter.
Hi.
The winning gown will go on permanent display in the lobby of the gershwin theatre to be seen by thousands of people every week.
Have a great show.
All: Thank you.
Well done.
All I keep thinking is Paris fashion week.
It's, like, really high-end, attention to details, and edgy.
And when I think if anyone would love ruffles, it would be Betsey Johnson.
It looks so expensive.
It's beautiful, Benjamin.
I am ecstatic.
As much as I was thinking i was gonna just come in second to Helen, now I'm feeling like actually maybe I do have a shot.
Ah, it's so lovely.
It's totally Benjamin Mach.
I like my look, but all I can focus on is how short her dress feels.
But I love it regardless.
The handwork is there.
The detail is there.
The fashion gods were listening.
It just feels like me if I were to do couture.
She looks amazing.
The dress has drama.
It has sex appeal.
Anything you could wish.
Work it.
Yes, girl.
I just have this smile that i just can't keep off my face.
I'm so proud of myself to see something that I felt like really could've been made in Paris.
Wow.
I'm really excited about this look.
It is so me, but also so not me.
I'm proud that I could've pushed myself out of my comfort zone and make this weird, spooky looking, pretty dress.
She just sparkles, and I think she looks amazing.
She looks sexy and confident and like a starlet.
And this is by far the gowniest gown I've ever made.
I think my dress looks really great on the runway.
I think it has a really great movement to it.
It screams wicked.
It is exactly how I envisioned it.
Yeah, fit that pocket.
I'm still nervous.
I know that I'm not presenting a gown, but I'm presenting my interpretation of a gown, and I'm really proud of what I did.
I see tilda swinton wearing this.
She looks stunning.
I'm just happy that I hem it at the right place, because it looked like the dss was floating on the runway, and fabio work is definitely from mine, so I have no idea what to expect.
I love my piece.
I think it's so strong.
If I were a couture designer and was asked to design a gown, this is how I would design a gown to go on the red carpet.
For having started it only a few hours ago, I'm just happy that those sequins are blinging.
It looks really pretty.
It's not as bad as I thought it would be.
As you know, each pair has a high score and a low score.
If I call your name, please step forward.
Michelle.
Justin.
Sam.
Sonjia.
Benjamin.
Dmitry.
Congratulations, you guys.
You're the winners of your fashion face-off.
Congratulations.
Sonjia, Sam, and dmitry, the three of you have the highest scores of the week, and that means one of you is the winner of this week's challenge.
Chris, fabio, and Helen, you have the lowest scores of the week, and one of you is going home.
The rest of you guys are safe.
Please make your way to the backstage lounge.
Designers, one of you is about to have your design on display at the gershwin theater, and someone else will be eliminated tonight.
Dmitry, let's hear from you first.
Tell us about your theme and your gown.
Well, my theme was wicked, and I found this trim, and I took it apart.
Piece by piece, i build the upper body.
And then I played with crystals and feathers.
I love this dress.
Thank you.
I think it's so pretty.
One thing about it is that it lacks drama.
I do love that you see so much of her skin.
I wish you could see more of her skin, and I do wish that it was a little longer in the waist so it actually sat in the proper way.
I agree with Isaac.
It just doesn't hit me as wicked enough, especially when it floats.
I was trying to find a balance.
I didn't want to go too theatrical and costumey.
Well, to be honest, i think I'm gonna disagree.
I don't think that you need to show more skin with the dress, and I think the dress is absolutely beautiful, and think you did a wonderful job.
Thank you.
Can you turn around for me so I can see the back? See, the back looks more wicked to me than the front.
Yeah.
It's gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
I love it, and really, really good job.
Thank you.
Helen.
Well, my theme was good.
What I decided to do was use a more tailored silhouette, and I decided to go with, of course, a softer palette because I was good.
And this piece here is ten yards of ruffled organza that I made.
I personally liked it 'cause i felt wherever I went, i would have a side table to put my drink on.
I thought that was what was really fun about it.
Could you rest your arm like that? You know what I mean? I thought, "that's got a function to something.
Maybe it opens up and it's a drink cabinet.
" I don't love the ruffles.
The ruffles kind of make it look like a duvet cover.
It's not my favorite look.
I think of all the dresses, I'd appreciate how much handwork you did on this, and I really see it.
You know what a good lesson to take away is maybe.
Sometimes what you work the hardest on is the least good fit.
Like, just 'cause you spent so many hours on those ruffles doesn't make them good.
Thank you.
Thanks so much.
Hi, sonjia.
So my theme was good, and I went for a very silvery, goldish dress that I placed an overskirt on top of.
This dress is beautiful.
I love the detail.
It looks very powerful with the color at the top.
And I don't even have much to say about it.
It's just that beautiful.
Thank you.
This is amazing, this dress.
Thank you.
You know what I like so much is the treatment of the lace, and the trim you matched that with is fabulous.
And I love seeing that much of her leg and covering it at the same time.
Can I see the back? Sure.
Oh, that skirt is so beautiful.
Great job.
Thank you so much.
Truly.
Okay, Chris, you're up.
So my theme was wicked, and I didn't want to make something black.
One of the things that I also thought made it look wicked is the fishbone detail that I put down the front and the sleeve.
Tell me about the fishbone thing.
Is that made of t-shirt fabric? It's made out of-- well, actually, I don't know what this fabric is.
It just--the color was good, and it's stretchy.
To me, it feels like one of those t-shirts that you see in, like, California, like on-- it--I mean, it does, but that's why I thought kind of like done this way, tone on tone.
It's not doing a thing for her body.
Look at it.
It's really not.
Well, it's-- by this time of the day, it's shifted way over.
It's wonderfully, wickedly wrong.
But I come from the land of dancing costumes and tutus, and I love the costumery about it.
I'll be honest.
I'm a little surprised because I thought that this would be your challenge.
You're surprised.
Sorry, I just didn't-- i just didn't love it.
Let's hear from you, Sam.
I had wicked, and I just wanted to make a really, like, sexy and strong, but it was, like, really boring.
And that's what Zanna said, so I started over and decided to feature the sequins more, and I wanted to make it still sexy, and so when I changed the neckline, i added the sheer silk mesh to it.
Well, i really love this dress.
It looks really raw.
I love that it is flowing and feminine, but still structured.
I think you did a great job.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
This dress is obviously a pretty dress.
I mean, it works.
I love the color of the dress.
I love this idea of crow black, but I wish it had been longer in the back and slightly shorter in the front so that it actually forced movement as opposed to stopped movement, you know? Right.
It doesn't do wicked to me.
It does beautiful and glamorous.
But you go so into the front that you did forget about the back a little bit.
I like how it looks in the back, I think it's simple.
I love the sequins.
I think it has a beautiful silhouette.
It's just a beautiful dress.
Thank you.
Let's move on to fabio.
So my theme was good.
I am not traditional.
For my personal aesthetic, i like to play with male and female and this idea of gender roles, and then present to you what I consider to be my interpretation of a gown.
I like what you just said, and I think that was a great statement, but it kind of looks like an apron to me.
It has a very, like, kitchen vibe to me.
Everybody else seemed to conform to the couture gown thing except you.
And I get that you didn't want to, and that that's not your aesthetic to make a gown.
But it does not give me couture.
It give me, like, the opposite of couture.
Just looks messy.
I love that you're going for something different.
Unfortunately, this dress was not right for this challenge.
Thank you, guys.
I appreciate all the comments.
Designers, you've all given us a lot to think about, so we're gonna deliberate, and we'll call you back.
Thank you.
All: Hi.
Ooh, girl.
What'd they say, fabs? They called it a apron.
They said it didn't fit the challenge.
Well, you might guess who loved mine.
Betsey? Betsey.
Betsey loved it.
Betsey Johnson said that she could put a drink on my ruffled peninsula, whatever you want to call it.
So I thought that that was a beautiful runway.
Yes.
Let's talk about the looks that we really liked.
Dmitry.
Honestly, his dress, I'm obsessed with it.
It's elegant and beautiful and powerful.
That's my type of dress.
I would definitely wear that.
It was quite elegant.
Yes.
Oh, definitely.
His workmanship has been beautiful throughout the entire competition.
Should we move on to sonjia? I really love this dress.
She looked like she was a hero in, like, a fantasy action thing, and I love that.
The front of that dress was divine, and then the back of that dress was so beautiful.
It looked like a full dress.
You didn't see the cutaway.
What a beautiful skirt.
Let's talk about Sam.
The blue-black of it was very chic.
Yeah, yeah, I liked the fact that it was so raw.
I just thought the dress was beautiful.
I love the sequins.
I love the colors, and I just thought it was a beautiful dress.
Now let's move on to the low scores.
Let's start with Helen.
It's an epic failure.
Can you really critique such an epic failure? It's terrible.
It does look like a duvet cover with some ruffled kiddy pillows, that are being thrown on a bed.
I would've like it all ruffles or all plain.
So let's move on to Chris.
This was the week i was expecting to see him shine because it was this Broadway thing.
It was this couture thing.
This was sort of a mess.
Not sort of a mess.
This was a train wreck.
It kind of looked like a hot topic t-shirt dress.
Let's move on to fabio.
I just don't like it coming from him.
The randomness of the weird asymmetry-- kind of schizophrenic.
It's--and then it's strappy with very ladylike front.
I didn't get the mix.
Just kind of random asymmetry.
If you're not gonna conform to the challenge, then you have to face being in the bottom.
So do we know who's going home? I think we do.
Yes.
Let's bring them back out.
Designers, one of you is about to have your design on display at the gershwin theatre, and someone else will be eliminated tonight.
Designers, one of you is about to have your design on display at the gershwin theatre.
Dmitry, you're safe.
Thank you for your work.
Thank you.
See you next week.
Thank you, guys.
Nice meeting you.
Sam and sonjia.
Sister.
One of you will have your gown displayed at wicked on Broadway, and that designer is Sonjia.
Yay.
[Applause.]
Good job.
Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
I really appreciate it.
Thank you.
And Sam, great job.
Thank you.
We'll see both of you again next week.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you.
I won! Oh, my God, I'm so excited.
I consider myself way more of a ready-to-wear designer, and for me to kind of force myself to get out of my comfort zone and creates something like this means the world to me.
Sonjia won.
Yay! Whoo! [Cheers and applause.]
I don't even make anything that feels like couture.
One of you had a low score, but is safe, and that designer is Fabio.
Oh, thank God.
Thank you so, so much.
Thank you, darling.
You can leave the runway.
Thank you.
Good luck, guys.
Chris and Helen.
Tonight one of you will be in, and one of you will be out.
Chris, we have great respect for your work, and we really thought this was your challenge to win, but this gown just missed the mark for us.
And there were so many elements that just didn't mesh.
Helen, we could see what you were trying to accomplish, but we had serious problems with your execution.
Your dress was beautiful from some angles, but all wrong from so many others.
Chris, Helen, you're both talented designers, but only one of you can stay.
The eliminated designer tonight is Chris.
Helen, you're still in the competition.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You can leave the runway.
I'll see you around.
Chris, thank you very much for joining us.
You're a fabulous designer.
I know.
You know.
Good.
Thank you.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Bye.
Sometimes you end up making decisions you wouldn't have normally because of the time pressure and the situation.
Does that happen in real life? Not always.
Aw.
Hope you're gonna miss me.
We're gonna miss you.
[Indistinct chatter.]
Betsey Johnson loved my dress, and I kind of expected all of 'em to like it more.
[Indistinct murmuring.]
Oh, there's people touching me! Yeah.
I don't know.
I guess I'm just completely caught off guard by the whole thing.
Next on Project Runway: All Stars Hello.
All: Hi.
Oh, my God, it's Nina.
You know who doesn't love Nina? People who suck.
Your challenge is to create a party dress that must include your own journey of love.
Ooh.
I didn't think i was capable of love.
Sorry, I don't want to get emotional.
You okay, Gunnar? Yeah.
There is something tragically romantic about this dress.
It is sad.
Sorry you feel that way.
You don't get to show a fashion audience your story.
The best dress always wins.
Nope.
