SkyMed (2022) s04e07 Episode Script

Aftermath

Why's Finn listed as missing
and why does he have burns on his arm?
Didn't know my uncle has a temper.
I don't believe in marriage,
but I'll do it for you.
I don't want you to be
willing to marry me.
- I want you to want to marry me.
- Mom?
Your dad's in the hospital.
They don't think he has much time.
I don't know this land
well enough to bushwhack.
- [WOOD CRACKING]
- [SCREAMING]
Oh, God, Zay!
You're scared of making a mistake!
Do you trust me to make
this decision for you?
[RHYTHMIC HEARTBEAT]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[ECHOING SCREAMING]
- [THUNDER ROARING]
- [GASPING]
Crystal?
It's okay, you were having
a nightmare.
- It must have been the thunder.
- You okay?
Hayley, I'm fine.
It was mostly just dehydration.
You don't have to keep checking me.
You have been through a lot.
I'm fine. Really.
I still think you should take
more time off
before you go back to TCH.
- Hayley, I'm
- Fine. I know.
Okay, well, if you are going
back, maybe check on Zay?
Let us know how he's doing.
He's not accepting any visitors.
I made some space for you
in the closet.
[SIGHS]
You sure you don't mind sharing?
How are you?
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
[SHAKILY] I'm really, really sad.
Crys
I know this was the right decision
for me and Wheezer, but it just
it feels so wrong.
SkyMed was my family, but now
Hey.
I'm always here for you.
I'm your family.
- [HOPEFUL MUSIC]
- [WHISPERING] Thank you.
[INHALING DEEPLY]
What is all this?
Batteries, toilet paper?
Do I want to know what
kind of party we're throwing?
The toilet paper?
That is all Wyatt of Oz.
- [THUNDER ROARING]
- [WIND BLOWING]
Whoa! [GRUNTING]
Hoo-wee!
Troubles are brewing out there.
Things are getting wet.
[GRUNTING]
Uh, what's up with all
the canned beans
and a ton of fruit snacks?
Oh, just some, uh, tornado prep.
You don't appreciate
a good fruit snack
until you're stuck in a basement
for three days.
The weather radar said
it was only a thunderstorm.
Yeah, for now.
But radar's got nothing
on prairie boy instinct.
Trust me, today is definitely
a twister day.
Oh, I hope not. We're down two medics.
Hey.
Hey.
How are you?
Good. How, um, how are you?
Good. Yeah.
Aren't those supposed to go outside?
Yeah, but with the winters up here,
I was worried the cameras
would freeze and break.
So, but they're pointed outside not in
and I got everybody to okay it first
and everybody has access to the feed,
- so no one feels uncomfortable.
- [PHONE RINGING]
Why is the Winnipeg
Law Firm calling me?
[TENSE MUSIC]
Hello?
Hey, Opie,
ready to go pick up
your new gently used King Air?
Riley, we have a problem.
I just got a call from a lawyer
representing the Patel family.
They called me officially
as SkyMed's chief nurse
with a lot of questions
about Zay's accident.
We think Zay's family is
planning to sue SkyMed.
[THEME MUSIC]
[ZAY] You know, most people
bring flowers.
But I do enjoy a fruit snack.
Okay, Wyatt.
You see, this is why
you're one of two people
on my approved visitor list.
Yeah, I've been meaning to ask.
What's with that?
Everyone's asking about you.
They want to see how you're doing.
I don't want them to see me
like this, in a bed,
and hooked up to all this equipment
like I'm one of their patients.
[PHONE RINGING AND BUZZING]
[MUTTERING] Come on!
Whoa.
- [THUNDER ROARING]
- Was that a telemarketer?
My parents.
They won't stop calling.
I just don't think
I could handle hearing,
"We told you so right now."
Come on, people just want
to show you they care.
Tell that to the other person
on my approved visitor list.
Crystal?
Crystal.
Buddy. Oh, man.
She hasn't been here, really?
I'm the one who got us
stuck in the mine.
I am the reason we almost died.
- [KNOCKING AT DOOR]
- [NURSE] Knock, knock.
Oh, sorry, sorry.
Sorry, hon'. Private suite
couldn't last forever.
Great. Company.
It's just temporary.
Jonas is being flown
to Winnipeg tomorrow
for maxillofacial surgery.
Hey, man.
Uh, since you got company,
I got a few more people
to check in on before
the storm heats up, so
Catch you later, okay?
How you doing, pal?
Great chat.
[SIGHING]
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
[DOOR OPENING]
Hey. You forgot your lunch.
You didn't have to bring it to me.
- You aren't eating enough.
- Haven't been hungry.
Hey, Wheezer gave you time off.
Could have stayed with your family.
Feels wrong
without Dad there.
Well, Nowak said at the funeral
we could visit him
and Tristan in Toronto.
You were worried
Nowak would pressure me
into applying for AC.
No, that's because Nowak's
idea of processing emotion
is to just work harder.
Are you ready to be back?
- [LOCK CLINKING]
- Wouldn't be here if I wasn't.
Bye, babe.
[ON INTERCOM] Dr. Beckett to
triage, Dr. Beckett to triage.
[TENSE MUSIC]
[THUNDER ROARING]
[HOSPITAL PHONE RINGING]
Hey, I just dropped off a patient.
I thought I'd come
and see how you're doing.
Have you been to see Zay?
Not yet. I've been super busy.
Um, but you are
planning on seeing him today?
Later. Yeah, after I get through this.
Dr. Highway?
Bay 2's for you.
Crystal, um [CLEARING THROAT]
before you go and see him,
there's something
that you should know.
I got a call from the Patel's lawyer.
They had a lot of questions
about what happened in the mine.
And about you.
About your training
and your decision making.
We think they might be
considering a lawsuit.
D-Does Zay know about this?
Oh, God.
I knew this was gonna happen.
I knew he was gonna hate me.
- Crys
- [PAGER RINGING]
We don't know for sure.
Okay, and we all have your back.
I just-I just wanted you to know
just in case, okay?
I gotta go. [SIGHING]
- First time getting sued, huh?
- Dr. Paul.
Crystal, I've been retired six months.
It's just Paul now.
65-year-old male, scalp laceration.
I was, uh, trying to secure my
neighbor's loose eaves trough
before the storm,
and the damn thing fell on me.
Let's take a look here.
Oh, yeah.
You've got some bruising
on your arm, too.
Oh, yeah, that was from before.
I took out the garbage wrong.
[INHALING DEEPLY]
The joy of getting older,
you bruise easier.
These curtains are thin, so I
hope you don't mind me saying,
every doctor gets sued
once or twice in their career.
It doesn't mean
you did anything wrong.
Thank you, but this one
feels pretty personal.
The other flight nurse
with the, um, amputation?
You heard about that?
Some folks were chatting.
It's a small hospital. People talk.
You know, I thought the hardest part
would be making the decision.
But now, knowing how different
Zay's life is gonna be
because of what I did
I don't know if he's ever going
to forgive me for this.
Every doctor has to live
with the consequences
of their choices.
But it's worse in a small community,
because you have to see every
decision you've made every day.
The, uh, neighbor I was helping today?
She was a patient.
I put her on blood thinners years ago
for atrial fibrillation.
But when I became concerned
she might have colon cancer,
I had a choice.
Leave her on thinners or take her off
- so she could have a colonoscopy.
- It's usually minimal risk.
Usually.
But the patient had a stroke.
She was partially paralyzed.
[SIGHING]
And I have to see
that decision every day.
That what it is to be
a doctor up here, Crystal.
You'll have to live right
next door to all your choices.
But, um,
you get to see all the babies
you delivered grow up too.
You know, I think I, uh
pushed it too hard
with the eaves trough.
Since you're here, let's check
your iron and sugar levels, too.
- [PENSIVE MUSIC CONTINUES]
- [RAIN TAPPING ON WINDOWS]
Hey.
Where are all the flowers we sent?
I had the nurse take them away.
Who let you in?
You're not on my approved list.
- [ALARM RINGING]
- Yeah, I used my SkyMed badge.
I wanted to make sure you're okay.
I'm fine. Everyone can stop
worrying about me.
I'm just waiting for
some more surgery.
[CHUCKLING]
You've been through a lot.
It's a big change.
You talking about
my snazzy new wardrobe?
You know, Zay, I had
a really hard time
when I realized that I had burnout.
I used to define myself by
the job, by being in the field.
It is not easy figuring out
a new version of yourself.
Yeah, well, the new version
of me has to pee, so
- I'll get a bedpan.
- I got it.
I can go to the bathroom
like a normal person
- [GROANING]
- [INHALING SHARPLY]
It's okay. It's okay.
I'm gonna get your crutch.
I know this all might feel
overwhelming,
but there's this breathing technique
my therapist taught me,
and it really helps.
I don't need a breathing
technique. I need to pee.
I know, but it helps you
to stay present,
so you don't get overwhelmed.
You just, you breathe in
for three, hold for three
- Mr. Patel? Everything okay?
- And breathe out.
She's not supposed to be
here. She's not on my list.
Zay, I'm, I'm just trying to help.
Yeah, well, I'm not
a head case like you, Stef.
[PAINFULLY] I lost my leg.
And a breathing technique is
not gonna bring it back.
You know, maybe you're not
a head case, Zay.
But you are hurt.
And trust me when I tell you,
it is a lot scarier
to be hurting alone.
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC CONTINUES]
[DOOR SHUTTING]
Yeah.
They tell you to do the
breathing stuff for pain, too.
Doesn't work for shit, though.
Look, if you're in pain,
I can call the nurse,
but I'm not really up
for a roommate chat right now.
You don't remember me, do you?
- Should I?
- Jonas.
- [INTRIGUING MUSIC]
- Facial injury.
You were my nurse.
I remember you say you
might have to do an intubation
if my airway collapsed.
The other medics said
nurses are supposed to do that.
I didn't know whether to be scared
that you'd try and screw it up
or that I'd suffocate.
You were right, though.
They put this thing in me
when I got here.
Right.
You were a dirt bike accident.
[PAINFULLY] Dirt bike accident?
Dude, I was laying on a stretcher,
alone, scared out of my mind.
Am I just a body to you?
Look, man.
Um, I'm sorry
I don't remember your name.
Being on this side of the bed
has kind of thrown me.
I'm used to being a nurse, not
just another patient, you know?
No offence, bro.
Get the hell over yourself!
Sorry about your leg and all.
None of us want to be
just another patient.
If that's all we are to you,
you shouldn't be a nurse either.
- [THUNDER ROARING]
- [INTRIGUING MUSIC SWELLS]
I don't remember stitches
requiring that much paperwork.
Yeah, but I was hoping for
a consult on one of my cases.
Oh.
Hmm.
Well, I'm retired
and I'm not a lawyer,
so this could only be a
a personal opinion.
This is not an amputation,
so this isn't the case
you're getting sued for?
No.
Uh, this is the one
I think I screwed up on.
I was treating an escaped convict
with two gunshot wounds,
and I don't think
I made the best decision.
You only knew that the patient
had a GSW to the chest
and to the knee.
You had no diagnostics,
just second-hand information
from someone with no medical training.
Symptoms like these
nine times out of ten,
it's a hemopneumothorax.
I could have asked
for more information
or gotten more specific
about where the leg wound was.
I didn't even think femoral artery.
No, most people wouldn't.
But next time, you will.
And nine times out of ten,
it'll still be a hemopneumothorax.
The difference now is
you'll always check
for that one time it isn't.
You weren't wrong medically.
You just didn't have the experience
to know to ask more questions.
Doesn't that mean
I shouldn't be a doctor?
I mean, the people in North House,
they want me to run a clinic.
Crystal, when I graduated med school,
I was a 25-year-old kid,
fresh off the farm.
And getting up here,
running this ER by myself,
I don't think I slept at all
that first year.
And I made mistakes.
But I also saw things
and learned things
that made me a stronger doctor.
But it took time and
you are going to make mistakes.
I can't make mistakes.
My community is
They know that you are doing
your absolute best for them.
I mean, look, it doesn't matter
if you do your learning here
or in a big city.
You are gonna need to get experience.
And you have to give up
on the idea of perfect.
It doesn't exist.
What if I get scared?
Just picture everyone
in their underpants.
- [CHUCKLING]
- Ew, Dad.
No one does that anymore
for stage fright.
I wouldn't be nervous
if you could actually be there
- for my dress rehearsal tomorrow?
- I wish I could, kiddo.
But the doctors think
I need to get this dealt with.
Your dad has DVT.
It's a blood clot in his leg.
We have to be careful with clots
because if they break free,
they can travel
through the bloodstream
and cause a lot of problems.
But I'll be back before you know it.
If you get nervous,
just picture me in that front row
looking up at you, cheering you on
because that's where
I'm gonna be opening night.
I promise.
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
- Love you, sweetheart.
- Love you, too.
No pressure, Captain,
but I really need you to get me back
before her play opens on Friday.
I'll do my best.
14 is a tough age.
And ever since she got the lead
in the school play,
she's been dealing with some
mean kids.
That's really hard.
You know, as a parent, you
you try to tell your kids
the right stuff.
Don't sink to their level.
But now that I'm an adult,
I know you can't out-reason a bully.
And some people
will always be bullies,
no matter what you do.
But I tell Leah,
if they're a bully to you,
they're probably
a bully to other people, too.
Bullies always reveal themselves.
Always.
My dad used to say the same thing.
And even though you're all grown up,
I bet he still wants to fight
your battles for you.
It's what dads do.
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC SWELLS]
[SHAKY BREATHING]
We're just waiting on a first officer,
- then we'll get going, Topher.
- Sorry I'm late.
- What are you doing here?
- I tried calling you.
I want you to know I'm really
sorry about your dad.
I didn't get to talk
to Wheezer about your stunt
before I left, but I thought you
would have talked to him by now.
Lexi, this is my dream.
I'm not gonna give it up,
not for a stupid mistake.
You already did!
I screwed up, and I lost control,
but I'm gonna work on it. I
I know I have things I need to work on
- from when my sister died
- Maya,
we're pilots.
The minute that you step
into a cockpit,
- it can't be about emotions.
- Ready to go?
We'll get you to your surgery, Topher.
We gotta beat this weather
into Winnipeg.
When we get back to Thompson,
I'm speaking to Wheezer.
That cell's looking
pretty close to YWG.
Do we need to be worried about that?
Maybe.
There's a squall line moving fast.
That means strong gusty winds
that change direction.
- They aren't predictable.
- We still have time.
We'll squeak into Winnipeg
before it gets too bad.
Did I tell you about Leah's play?
It's a Midsummer Night's Dream.
Did I tell you about the lights?
- [WEAKLY] So bright
- [MACHINERY BEEPING RAPIDLY]
Hey, Topher, you okay?
[MACHINERY BEEPING URGENTLY]
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- The clot.
I think he's having a STEMI.
No pulse.
What's happening? Is he okay?
The clot in his leg must have
moved to his heart.
- I need help back here!
- You have control.
I have control.
[GRUNTING WEAKLY]
Hayley, stop he's awake!
No, he's not! No shockable rhythm.
No pulse.
His eyes are open. He's making noise!
It's CPRIC, conscious patient
during CPR.
The compressions are the only
thing keeping him alive.
I need you to take over,
I need to administer adrenaline.
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC CONTINUES]
- [GRUNTING WEAKLY]
I'm not trying to hurt you,
but you gotta stay with us.
You need to stay with us
for your daughter!
- [PHONE RINGING]
- [INTRIGUING MUSIC]
Dr. Highway.
[HAYLEY] Crystal, I need your help.
I've got a CPRIC patient.
He had DVT, and I think
he threw a clot.
He's having full-on STEMI.
I've given adrenaline,
and Lexi's doing compressions.
Get him to a cath lab
as soon as possible.
[MAYA] We're in line for the approach,
but wind shear's bad.
Everyone's diverting.
- I don't think we can land.
- We're landing!
He's still alive.
He's looking me in the eyes!
Hayley, take over.
I'm gonna do the landing.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- I have control.
- No one else could get in.
There's a lot of wind sheer,
I don't think we'll be able
to maintain a stable approach.
I can do it. He needs to get home.
He promised to be there
for his daughter.
We're on the glide path.
Check your speed, you're below ref.
[TENSE MUSIC]
It's gusting.
Watch flap speed. You're fast now.
You're low on the slope.
The wind's gonna drive us
into the ground.
[PANTS]
[GRUNTING] Stay with me, Topher!
- Come on, come on.
- [MAYA] Below ref.
Below ref!
Lexi, you're unstable. Go around
now or I'm taking control!
Going around.
We're gonna try again.
He needs to be there for his daughter.
Lexi, I know you want
to help the patient,
but this is about everyone
on the aircraft.
Lexi?
I'm calling it. We're diverting
back to Thompson.
Are you fit to handle that or
do you need me to take control?
[INTRIGUING MUSIC]
You have control.
I have control.
[HAYLEY] Crystal, we can't land!
We're diverting back to Thompson.
[CRYSTAL] Hayley,
he doesn't have that long,
not unless you can break up the clot.
You need to give him TPA.
- What, are you sure?
- I'm looking at his chart.
There's no history of bleeding
and his scans are clear.
I've done it before with STEMIs
and strokes, I'm sure.
I'll send an ambulance
to meet you in Thompson.
But he needs
to get to a hospital fast.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Lex.
Hey, are you alright?
Maya just called.
She said I needed to find you.
I'm fine. I'm just
trying to get this done.
Is that an application for Air Canada?
Nowak said he would walk it in
and I already asked.
There are a lot of forms.
Uh, Maya mentioned
it was a difficult flight.
Oh, yeah. We had to divert.
Okay, uh, but she thought
it was more than that.
She said you were pretty upset.
That you were really worried
about the patient.
- Stef, I need to get this done.
- I talked to Crystal.
The patient's stable, okay?
He's gonna be fine.
Honey, this doesn't have
to happen right now.
No, I have to apply.
- Lex
- [COMPUTER SHUTTING]
- [SOMBER MUSIC]
- What are you doing?
This can wait.
No, it can't! I have
to go to a major airline now.
I have to do it for my dad.
I can't let him down.
You you're not letting him down
Yes, I am! I took too long,
I didn't get there fast enough!
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
You see this? My dad took that.
He was there the first time
I sat on a plane,
and he's supposed to be there
when I fly for a major airline too.
He's supposed to be there, Stef!
He's supposed to have a ticket
on the very first flight that I fly
as an airline pilot,
but I took too long.
I took too long!
And I didn't-and I didn't
get there before he
[HYPERVENTILATING]
[WEAKLY] He promised
He promised me.
He always promised me
that he would be there.
And now even if I-I do it,
even if I make it,
he'll never fly with me,
Stef. He'll never
I'll never fly with my dad again.
Oh, God.
[SOBBING]
[THUNDER CRASHING]
It's getting bad out there.
Toilet paper party
made it down here too, huh?
[CHUCKLING]
After a twister, people go
to communal places
if their homes are unsafe.
Oh, and, uh, I brought
this guy too, just in case.
You're a good person,
you know that, Wyatt?
I'm gonna go see about those windows.
[THUNDER CRASHING]
Hey, you work for SkyMed?
Officer Vos.
I have some questions for you
about Piper Adler.
Did Zay Patel call you?
I, uh, I told him not to tell anybody.
She didn't hit me on purpose,
okay? It wasn't a hit-and-run.
She took me straight
to the hospital after
Whoa, whoa, whoa. What hit-and-run?
Did I say hit-and-run?
What I meant to say was, I,
uh, she hit on me at a bar.
You know, I run running my mouth.
[NERVOUS CHUCKLING]
Yeah.
I think you better start
from the beginning.
- [INTRIGUING MUSIC SWELLS]
- [SIGHS]
Dr. Paul?
I know you gotta dismiss
the small stuff.
The minute the power goes out,
you're gonna need the beds.
You can stay in the cafeteria.
It's-it's not safe on the roads
and they've got food
and sleeping bags for people.
You know, I might have been retired
just long enough to miss
the Salisbury steak.
- [CHUCKLING]
- I, uh
I got your blood work back.
- That was fast.
- I put a rush on it.
I thought I should.
You do know you have
cancer, don't you?
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
Huh.
Damn. [SIGHING]
I actually wasn't sure. I
suspected, but
how did you know?
My kookum, she had leukemia.
She was tired too,
bruising a lot, nosebleeds.
She was a healer like you.
I remember Isabelle.
I'm sorry.
You know, most ER docs
would have missed this.
They would have discharged me
and let me go on pretending,
but you didn't.
Because of her.
Every experience, even the hard ones.
[INHALING DEEPLY] They make us
better doctors, Crystal.
[SIGHING]
Well, when the weather passes,
you'll need treatment.
Promise me you'll do that.
- [ALARM RINGING]
- Code Blue. Code Blue.
- I gotta check my patients.
- Go.
Gonna be a long night, Dr. Highway.
[HOSPITAL DIN]
[WOODEN THUDDING]
[THUNDER ROARING]
[CHUCKLING] Okay, cowboy. [SIGHING]
You don't need to do more damage
than the twister.
[THUDDING]
- You all right?
- No.
[SIGHING] I have bad luck.
I know you think
I'm a good person, but I'm not.
I'm just doing all this to prepare,
because any time
I'm in a crappy situation,
my bad luck seems
to always make it worse.
- [HAMMERING LOUDLY]
- [THUNDER ROARING]
You know Piper had to fight
for custody of her brother
before they came up here? And I
well, I just went and told a cop.
I just went and told a cop
something that could ruin it.
Okay. Oh.
[CHUCKLING] Okay, Wyatt.
Come on, what could you say
to make Piper lose custody
of her brother?
Why was that cop
asking about Piper anyway?
You don't think
she's in trouble, do you?
- [ALARM BLARING]
- [WIND HOWLING]
It's a shelter in place warning.
[THUNDER CRASHING]
- [DOOR BELL DINGING]
- [INDISTINCT CHATTER]
Yeah, come on in.
Come on in, there we go.
Let's go, this way.
[ON INTERCOM] Code blue, code blue.
Bet you that's room six.
[ON INTERCOM] Code team to room six.
[CHUCKLING] Oh, called it.
[ON INTERCOM] Code blue,
code team to bay three.
Oh, that one I did not see coming.
[COUGHING]
[CHOKING]
Hey, we need suction in here. Stat!
- [TENSE MUSIC]
- We need help, damn it.
[WHEEZING] I can't breathe!
We need help!
[GROANING]
- [MACHINERY BEEPING]
- [GRUNTING]
[TENSE MUSIC SWELLS]
[GRUNTS]
I can't breathe.
It's okay. It's okay.
[MACHINERY SUCTION]
I know you're scared, Jonas.
You're hurt. And you're alone.
I know how you feel.
- I know.
- [MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry I made you feel that way.
[WHEEZING]
[INHALING DEEPLY]
I got you.
It's okay. I got you.
[ON INTERCOM] Urgent assistance
required in room 4.
[WHEEZER] Bad day to pick up
a new plane with this storm.
What's your gut on the Patel kid?
He's new up here.
He's the one who went off-road,
which is why he and Crystal
fell into the mine.
[SIGHING]
But it doesn't help that an ATV
from a SkyMed
affiliate airstrip broke down,
which is why they were on foot.
You sound like a bloody lawyer.
Opie, two SkyMed employees
fell into a mine.
One cut the other's leg off.
We might be getting sued.
The AMG is gonna have questions.
Well, they're not gonna throw
Crystal to the wolves, are they?
They might play it safe
and try to cut a deal.
Yeah, but Crystal didn't do
anything wrong.
Hayley reviewed it and she found that
Crystal made a sound medical decision.
Well, Hayley is young
and new in that position.
Her opinion might not carry
a lot of weight.
I know you trust Hayley.
She's your partner.
Yeah, well,
she's not my partner anymore
and I still trust her.
Opie, you and Hayley broke up?
[ALARM BLARING]
It's an emergency alert.
Yeah, I think I know why.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
That thing is headed
right for Thompson.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
It's okay.
We just have to sit tight.
We'll be okay.
- [WIND HOWLING VIOLENTLY]
- [TREES SMACKING WINDOWS]
Those are coming down!
Everyone away from the window now!
[SCREAMING]
Oh, God!
Wyatt, move the fan.
I need to check him.
Oh, he's got no pulse!
I think the hit put him into arrest.
I need to give him adrenaline.
Can you handle compressions?
Well, yeah, yeah.
Okay, put your hands just
where mine are, all right?
[HEAVY BREATHING]
Stay with me. Stay with me.
I'm with you. I'm with you.
Good. I need to start an IV.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC CONTINUES]
[MUTTERING] Shit!
He has no veins.
- What does that mean?
- It's shock.
I'm not going
to be able to start a line.
[ECHOING] No.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[EXHALING DEEPLY]
I have to do an intraosseous line.
What does that mean?
I have to go in through the bone.
[TENSE MUSIC]
- How are you gonna do that?
- I'm gonna drill.
We go in here.
I insert the needle
till it touches the bone.
And then, we drill.
[MECHANICAL WHIRRING]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[EXHALING]
- Oh, geez, is that
- Bone marrow. I'm in.
We can give him adrenaline.
30-year-old male,
cardiac arrest from blunt
trauma to the chest.
He has an intraosseous line.
[TENSE MUSIC]
Okay, get him to the O.R. Let's go.
You're slammed. Can I help?
You're on leave, are you sure?
I'm okay. I think I'm-I'm
ready to be back in the field.
Okay, you take triage.
Yeah.
Hey, um
I was just talking
to those cops back there.
I was trying to find out
why Officer Vos was asking
all those questions about Piper
at the Whiskey Hatch.
Turns out there is
no Officer Vos up here.
Whoever that guy is, he's-he's
not with Thompson Police.
Then who is he?
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [HAMMERING]
Wow, I can't believe Wyatt
was right about this storm.
He's a cowboy.
He'd lose his spurs if he didn't
predict a twister.
[KNOCKING AT DOOR]
- [INTRIGUING MUSIC]
- Someone caught in the storm?
[GASPING]
- Piper, who is it?
- Finn, stay back.
Hello, Piper.
Finlay?
Uncle Rick.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[TENSE MUSIC]
What are you doing here?
I got a call
from a friend at Family
Social Services
asking why someone in Thompson
is looking up
Finn's medical records. I
figured I'd better come and see.
Look, things have gotten
a little out of hand here.
Now, I know Finn's had a hard time
ever since your parents died,
but it didn't need to come this far,
and I don't want either of you
to get in trouble.
Finn wants to stay with me.
But FSS didn't think
you were ready, Piper.
And after this stunt? He's a minor.
That makes this a kidnapping.
Piper didn't kidnap me.
I wanted to go with her.
Just let him stay with me.
I was asked to be his
guardian. I take that seriously.
Bullshit. [SIGHING]
Look, I know we've had some bumps.
There's some things
I could have handled better.
But we all have things
we can work on, don't we, Finn?
You can do better, too.
You can try harder to get along,
listen to your aunt, listen to me.
We hired a lawyer.
Finn isn't going back with you.
Piper, I didn't want to bring this up.
But I know about your hit-and-run.
- How?
- Wyatt's a sweet guy.
You did a real number
on him convincing him
he didn't need to report it
because you were kind enough
to take him to the hospital.
Between that and taking Finlay,
you're in serious trouble.
But I'm a police officer,
and I can make this go away
if Finn comes with me now.
You can't go to jail, Piper.
- Finn, don't.
- That's the right move, Finn.
Come on, champ. Grab your stuff.
- [DOOR OPENING]
- Oof, wow.
It's getting really bad out there
Is everything okay in here?
I'm Officer Vos.
I'm, uh, Piper's uncle.
Wow, you picked a heck of a time
coming up here
during a tornado warning.
It's okay.
We'll be safe if we stay inside.
Hey, Finn, you wanna
You wanna give me a hand
boarding up those, uh,
those doors over here?
We don't want them to shatter.
I was just about to take Finn
back to Toronto.
Not today. All the roads are blocked.
No one is going anywhere for a while.
[SIGHING]
All right, I got through
to the sat phone at dispatch.
I told them that we had to
divert to wait out the weather.
They're grounding everything
that they can.
Caleb, he's been spending
a lot of time in the bush.
Made him carry a sat phone
so I could reach him, but
- he's not answering.
- I'm sure he's okay, Opie.
- [PHONE RINGING]
- Caleb?
Hey, hey, buddy. Yeah, I thought
you were in the bush.
Oh, yeah, that's smart.
Okay, I want you to take your
mom to the community center.
It's gonna be safe there.
Yeah. Yeah, bring the wildfire
backpacks.
You gonna want those supplies, okay?
I love you too.
Bye.
What?
I just, I've never seen you
be a dad before.
[CHUCKLING] I always knew
you'd be good at it, but
[PHONE DINGING]
It's an alert from the crew
house camera.
Why is Hayley moving it?
Why is there a cop there?
Did something happen?
- Is that hot chocolate?
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
She's trying to signal me.
That's what I told her
when the convict had a gun.
She's in trouble. I gotta get to her.
No, Opie. Opie. There will be
other people on the ground
who can get to her faster.
You can't fly into a tornado.
It's too risky. It's not like you.
It is when Hayley's in danger.
I'm so sorry you came
all the way out here.
Finlay's family.
I wanna bring him home safe.
[WINDOWS THUDDING]
We always have space for one more.
And I actually just started
the process
of applying to become a foster parent.
I've gotten to know Piper and Finlay,
and I would be more than
happy to foster Finn
so that he can stay close
to his sister.
That's a real generous offer.
I'm sure you understand he can't
just run away from his problems.
He needs to come home, go back
to school, get back on track.
Sounds like things
were difficult at your house.
[SIGHING]
Kids exaggerate.
I see it all the time in my job.
I see it all the time in mine, too.
I'm a nurse.
I'm trained to recognize
the signs of abuse.
Piper has a lawyer now, a good one,
and I am applying to foster Finlay.
He is staying with us.
Yeah, I heard about that
from my friend at FSS.
I doubt you'll be approved.
Do they know anything about
your history of addiction?
That's none of your business.
Yeah.
I am in recovery.
My employers know,
and I disclosed it to FSS, too.
What about your history? Hmm?
[CHUCKLING] I mean, there is
no, there is no way that
Finlay's the first time
you've lost your temper.
Bullies don't change.
Sooner or later,
they always reveal themselves.
Finlay, get your things. We're going.
Why are you here, huh?
Because I don't think
you wanna take care of Finlay.
You just don't want his reasons
for leaving coming out.
But if Finlay talks to a lawyer,
if Piper gets custody,
- they will come out.
- [TENSE MUSIC]
And what else don't you want
people finding out, hmm?
What else don't you want people
looking too closely at?
Something
something on the job, maybe?
That's a big claim to make
against an officer of the law.
I noticed there's a fully
stocked bar in this house.
What would happen if I gave you
a sobriety test?
Nothing.
Oh, I can always find something.
You know, the thing
about going to group
is that I get to hear
a lot of people's stories.
And I get to hear about a lot
of unhappy homes.
And the thing is, stuff
like this, people like you,
it never comes out of nowhere,
and it never just stays at home.
You probably think you're smart
about it too, don't you?
Picking on people
who are smaller than you,
who can't defend themselves,
people who no one will believe?
[THUNDER ROARING]
So how many people are out there
like Piper and Finlay,
who know exactly who you are
behind this uniform?
But they're not the ones
that are small.
You are.
And they know it, and so do you.
So how many people are out there
that know exactly how small
and pathetic you really are?
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Hayley!
You dumb bitch.
- [GRUNTING]
- [GLASS BREAKING]
[WIND HOWLING]
[COUGHING]
Piper? Finn?
We're okay.
[HOPEFUL MUSIC]
He's okay. He's just knocked out.
Are you guys okay?
Yeah.
It's okay, Finn.
Did you mean it?
When you said
you were gonna foster Finn?
I already started the paperwork.
[SOBBING]
That lawyer you got Piper
and Finlay's a real pitbull.
I think Vos wishes he hadn't woken up.
Ow.
Looks like it was
a wild night here, too.
- Mm-hmm.
- [HOSPITAL DIN]
You know, I turned down
Jeremy's clinic
because I didn't think
I was a good enough doctor,
but I am.
And I want to keep getting
better, so
I texted Frieda to let
her know I'll run the clinic.
Good. That is the right thing.
Have you seen Zay?
No. Not yet.
- I'm not sure he wants to see me.
- [PHONE DINGING]
It's Frieda.
North House got hit by the tornado.
Go. I'll get Stef and Piper.
- We'll bring supplies to help.
- Okay.
Hayley! Hey!
Are you okay? I saw the video,
I saw the cop hit you.
It's-it's okay. I'm, I'm okay.
He's Finn uncle, but
it's on camera now, Wheezer,
he won't have to go back there.
Hayley, that was very,
very brave and dangerous.
You could have gotten hurt.
I'm okay, Wheezer.
We all are.
[MELANCHOLIC MUSIC]
[STAMMERING] How are you?
Yeah, I'm good.
I'm okay.
I just want to make sure
that you're okay.
Okay.
[HOPEFUL MUSIC]
Crystal said the injuries
at North House are minor,
- but they need supplies.
- Captain Heaseman,
nurse Roberts.
Hey, Ry.
I know that we haven't filled
out all the paperwork
to send this stuff out
to North House yet, but
I just spoke to the AMG.
SkyMed has a problem.
Uh, well, Wheezer and I discussed it.
We stand by Crystal.
No, this isn't about the lawsuit.
You both took a lot of
unacceptable risks yesterday.
You flew into unsafe conditions.
Hayley was in danger.
You risked a multimillion
dollar aircraft
because of your personal
relationship with her.
We've always been open
about our relationship,
and I was trying to protect my nurse.
By goading a police officer
into striking you.
Opie, you are a good pilot.
And Hayley, you are a good nurse.
But it has become clear
that there is too much
personal involvement between
the two of you and your crew.
The AMG has decided that SkyMed
needs a steadier leadership.
They've decided?
Or you've decided, Riley?
You're both very skilled.
The AMG is offering you both
to be transferred to other bases
that we manage, but you can't
continue working together,
and you can't stay here.
You're both leaving SkyMed.
