Project Runway: All Stars (2012) s04e09 Episode Script

Sketching with Sharks

Previously on Project Runway: All Stars Your challenge is to create elegant resort wear, and you must also design a swimsuit to go under your outfit.
[All screaming.]
Oh, I love it.
Kevin, can you do a backstroke, please? As long as we've got no nipples hanging out, then we're all good.
It's gonna be really high cut, like baywatch.
Really focus on the glamour aspect.
Oh, my gosh, oh, my gosh.
Is that the back attached to the front? Time wasn't allotted for such a big mistake.
It's exemplary of asymmetry.
Congratulations.
That dress is so versatile.
It moves so beautifully.
The winner this week is Justin.
Dmitry, you just need to find that extra something to score the win.
When she revealed this bathing suit, i thought, "well, there's another crazy moment.
" She takes it off, and I get flashdance.
[Gasps.]
I just got, like, bad '80s, who's the boss? Flashbacks.
Samantha.
The designer eliminated tonight is Sam.
[Exhales sharply.]
from Project Runway are back And this time the competition is bigger than ever.
Each week their skills are tested to the limit, as they compete for the largest prize in runwahistory.
Who will be cut And who will have it all sewn up? This is Project Runway: All Stars.
My gosh, look, fabio.
Oh, wow.
Oh, my gosh.
We are arriving at the long island aquarium.
I've never been here before, so I have no idea what's in store.
I see Alyssa with the cutest little African penguins I've ever seen.
Good morning, all-stars.
Good morning.
Prepare for a voyage of "under the sea" discovery.
This is the long island aquarium, home to over 5,000 species of marine life, and my new friends here, Kevin and Pam Perfect inspiration for your next challenge.
Some of you may know that I was the inspiration for Ariel in Disney's the little mermaid, which is kind of cool.
No big deal.
No big deal.
[Laughs.]
So this week i want you to choose your own underwater life-form for inspiration, and this is the avant-garde challenge.
Once I heard avant-garde, i was kind of like, "oh, [Bleep.]
.
" I did not so hot last season on my avant-garde challenge.
It looks like a pumpkin fest.
It's so orange.
It sort of felt like a carrot, you know, in the grater.
This is my opportunity to redeem myself from last season.
It's obviously a lot of pressure.
As well as sketching here at the aquarium, you have cameras to take pictures for reference back in the workroom, and since this is the avant-garde challenge, we're giving you two days for this challenge.
Hallelujah.
Finally.
Your fabric budget is $150.
Ooh.
Oh.
Nobody can do avant-garde for 150 bucks.
But I have a little proposition for you.
I'm willing to increase your budget by giving you all an extra $100 each If? If one of you volunteers to sketch in the shark tank.
Wow.
You guys You're taking one for the team.
That's so awesome.
Really? Okay, girl, do your thing.
I mean, come on.
If I can buy more fabric, it's kind of like, "oh, I'll risk my life for that.
" Good job, girl.
Yeah, get your last hugs in now.
That's $250 each for the challenge, and I will see all of you on the runway in two days.
At least, Helen, I hope to see you back on the runway.
All of me.
Enjoy your underwater experience.
Get creative and good luck.
Both: Thank you.
Oh, I love that fish.
I love that one.
This is our hard coral.
Are you more interested in the shape? I like the shape.
That's a good picture of the sea horse.
I choose sea horse.
The whole body of the sea horse is made of these geometrical scales, and that's inspired me to create this long coat with very complicated patterns.
I love it.
I want to get up on this and take the photo from up above.
I'm choosing the red bubble anemone because it reproduces asexually.
I really like to play with genderless shapes in my design, and I also want this to be the most conceptual piece out there on the runway.
He's a cuttlefish.
So I see this flamboyant cuttlefish, and he captures my heart.
He's, like, really big at the front of his body and these beautiful fins that kind of taper off towards the back, and I want to capture that shape somewhere in my outfit.
Follow me on in.
Watch your step on these holds.
Oh, ho, ho.
We're only going to do this if you're comfortable.
Are you ready? I mean What did I get myself into? It's gonna feel cold.
You'll warm up, I promise.
Ohh! Helen, are you okay? I'm freezing.
I'm scared [Bleep.]
less.
Quite another world down here, right? It's so beautiful.
[All yelling and cheering.]
[Laughter.]
It's really hard to sketch underwater.
[Laughs.]
I'm just sketching a cloak.
I mean, when you think shark, you think, like, sleek and sexy, and if you take inspiration from something that's so, like, vicious and intense, you want to do something that complements that.
How are you doing, Helen? Uh, I don't know.
This is scary.
I want to show the judges that I'm gonna take any risk i need to to win this entire competition.
What does that say? "Let's go to mood!" "Let's go to mood.
" Let's go to mood! 30 minutes, guys! This is amazing.
For my dress, I chose a piranha.
They're covered in, like, these beautiful, like, glittery sequins, and I thought it's amazing, because, you know, you think of piranhas as really vicious fish, and they're kind of really beautiful.
This is cool.
Yeah, that's really pretty.
I chose the yellow scroll coral.
It's very structured.
It's very grand.
I want to make a dress focusing on the structure of it.
I pick out this interesting textile fabric that has fringe in it, which reminds me of the coral.
Oh, this is nice.
My fish is called the lionfish.
It's very ethereal, and yet the fish had a sense of volume and weight to it, and I really want to juxtapose those two ideas together in my look.
I find these two beautiful black and white vinyl.
I've never played with vinyl before.
Five minutes, guys.
Five minutes.
Ooh, this is cool.
I'm grabbing a textured organza and a silk crepe for the body of my dress that just screams shark at me.
Time is up, guys.
All: Thank you, mood! Oh, boy.
This is the first day of our two-day challenge.
I am inspired by the sea horse, and I'm making this beautiful coat out of million of pieces and geometrical forms.
Dmitry, you're very quiet.
No, I just had a lot of math to do, kind of.
It's like being an engineer.
So you have to engineer the pattern, but then you have to make sure all those cutouts, they connect.
So I want it to be fitted and then gather, gather, gather up from here.
I have not won a challenge.
This is, like, driving me crazy.
I love avant-garde.
So this is something that i feel super comfortable with and is probably my favorite challenge thus far.
The Wilder, the more flamboyant, like my cuttlefish, the better.
Time is up.
Okay, great.
Good night.
I might have picked the wrong fabric for this challenge.
There's no life to it.
It's definitely set me back for this challenge, because I don't know what I'm gonna do with it.
What? You okay? I'll be fine.
I definitely like to hold it in a lot, and from time to time, i do have, like, bursts of, like, emotion.
It's getting to a point that i don't know how to handle it.
I don't really know what's going on with Justin.
He seems just not his spirited self.
When I think of avant-garde, i think of Justin, and I think that this is his challenge to win, and I'm just a little worried that he's not feeling it inside, and he needs to find the joy in this artistic, fun, creative process.
Are you having fun? [Voice breaking.]
I just have to try And not stress out.
It's sad to see Justin struggle, because, like, he's my friend.
He's from my season.
Like, I don't like to see anyone upset, and it's not cool.
Hey, do you want these? I might.
I'm not using this at all.
Cool.
I'll keep that noted.
Thank you.
I'll put it on your table, okay? Okay, cool.
Thank you.
I had plenty of extra fabric.
I would hope that people would do the same for me.
The higher the pants, the closer to God.
Right? I'm just going full-on asexual with this and taking this idea of a tuxedo tailcoat and then flipping it around and making it back to front.
So pockets are going to the back.
The lapels are going to the back.
The pleats are going to the back.
I'm really, really excited.
I've been waiting for an avant-garde challenge all season.
I'm thankful that Helen donated the fabric.
It definitely made a big difference.
That's pretty cool.
I think I'm trying to make it not look '80s.
That's my only thing.
This doesn't look '80s.
[Laughs.]
Now that I have Helen's fabric, i know exactly what I need to do.
This is the kind of fabric i like working with.
Good.
Well, you're welcome.
Thank you.
How's it going, Helen? It's going.
Avant-garde fashion is when you take something conceptual and create a look that's fashion forward, but also forward thinking.
There is no balance with avant-garde.
You go really big, or you go home.
It looks like intestines, in a good way.
Like tripe? Yep.
I hope they say that tomorrow.
I'd fry that and eat it.
Hi, designers.
Hi.
The avant-garde challenge-- definitely my favorite.
For you as designers, it pushes you.
It makes you think outside the box.
So I'm gonna come around and hope that that's the case.
Hi, Jay.
Hello.
How was the aquarium? It was good.
It was really fun.
What's your inspiration? It's this lionfish.
Yeah.
I really wanted to do something, like, really graphic.
I need to know what in this makes it avant-garde for you.
Basically the whole idea is to make the front look like it's approachable and wearable, and the back is gonna be where the drama is.
Okay.
Congratulations on your win last week.
Thank you.
Epic.
Tell me about your inspiration.
My inspiration is a yellow scroll coral.
What caught my attention is the texture of it.
This is the shoulder piece, which I don't want to be fitted, but I don't want to be too over the top.
I know it's avant-garde, but I like to control my design.
But don't go too quiet with it.
Yeah.
It has to really push the boundaries, you know.
I want to see something I've never seen before.
Yeah.
You're on the right track here.
Justin's look-- the structure is a little wonky.
I think he managed to accomplish an avant-garde silhouette, but execution-wise, it's not there.
Keep positive.
Will do.
It's called a red bubble anemone.
It's a asexual-reproduction life-form.
My idea was to take this asexual kind of reference and play it off on the outfit.
I don't want you to get so lost in the asexual thing that you forget the fish.
Right.
I have a red-bellied piranha.
Let me see him? His name is brocade.
[Laughs.]
We had an issue with brocade once, didn't we? Trend-wise, I'm all for the double-layer skirt, but this is not about trends.
This is about an avant-garde look.
Yeah.
You've totally got it in you, design-wise and technically, to be able to blow this out of the water.
Excuse the pun.
My fish is a flamboyant cuttlefish, and they are quite "volumous" in the front Yeah.
And get a little bit smaller and tapered toward the back.
And I actually have done it longer in the front and shorter in the back.
We don't want it to look like a maternity gown, though.
You could take an entire family of four camping in this.
Well, at this point, Michelle's dress kind of looks like a maternity fish costume.
Sharkskin is smooth on one side, and when you come the opposite, it's like jagged.
So I wanted to, like, interpret that as something kind of soft and in a larger proportion.
This is reminding me of the entire conversation we had on your couture challenge.
Right.
This reminds me of a shower loofah Again.
Okay.
It needs some more definition.
It needs some shape to it.
This is just like a block of ruffle.
It should be attractive.
It just shouldn't be weird.
Mm-hmm.
But you have to edit down.
There's way too much here.
Right.
I think Helen is making a high-priestess outfit for some vanilla planet that only serves soft serve.
I think I need to crop it.
See, even this Right.
Having this extra flesh here, seeing some curve to their natural body, instead of just a block of ruffle is great.
Thank you.
I chose the sea horse.
So it's right here.
Beautiful.
So I'm making a coat, and I am playing with all these skeletons, pretty much, because the sea horse, the whole body, it's almost like a skeleton.
It has all these geometrical forms.
You have been consistent, and you've delivered on every challenge.
You just haven't won, and that is massively frustrating for me.
So it must be massively frustrating for you.
It is frustrating, and sometimes I felt like I deserved to win, but again, it's a matter of opinion, and I have my opinion, you have your opinion, and judges have their own opinions.
Well, you can't be so arrogant to say, "this is my opinion, and you have to like it.
" No, I'm not being arrogant.
I'm just being direct, and I love what I do.
Yeah.
That's all that I need.
No, you need a win.
That's what you need.
Okay, all-stars, i know you think I'm being really tough on you, but it's tough love, and I don't want to see any one of you go home, but there is only going to be one winner.
So, for that reason, I'm gonna give you a little bit of help.
I'm gonna introduce to you the ceo of Lauren b nail care, Lauren b herself.
Hi.
Hi, Lauren.
Hi.
Hi, designers.
Hi.
I'm here today with my team of experts to help you collaborate on a fun nail-art twist.
We have lots of great embellishments to jazz up the traditional manicure and to complete your model's look to take it to the next level.
And I believe you have quite a wonderful prize.
Yes, the winner of this challenge will receive a year's worth of products, polishes, and supplies from Lauren b beauty nail couture-- a $5,000 value.
Wow.
Whoo! [Applause.]
So you guys better nail it.
[Laughter.]
Good luck.
Hi, Helen.
Hi, how are you? Good to see you again.
This is Gerry holford, my consultant.
I'm Gerry.
Nice to meet you.
My jaw is, like, on the floor.
I love nails.
I'm actually lacing that one.
Oh, that's nice there.
Oh, how cool.
So, to have, like, Lauren b-- the girl knows her stuff.
Do you like any of the embellishments? Oh, I like everything.
The sequins, the studs.
I want her nails to look kind of deceiving-- like, feminine, but reeow! Okay.
Models are here, guys.
Hi.
So it's an avant-garde challenge, and we went to the long island aquarium, and my dumb ass got in the shark tank.
During my critique, Zanna insisted that I give this dress some sort of element of fit.
My dress looks like my grandmother's nightie.
She's really cute in her pajamas, but it's not a good look for avant-garde.
So I need to, like, just bring the sex up in it and hack that dress.
Butcher, butcher, butcher, butcher.
Shark attack.
So I just wanted to take the idea of, like, a tuxedo tailcoat and then literally flipping it back to front.
Fabio's backward tux is really interesting.
I'm not sure if his craftsmanship is there.
Okay, let's try the coat on.
My fitting goes well.
I need to tack and fix little things there and there, but, in general, it looks pretty good-- not to sound arrogant or anything.
[Chuckles.]
Okay, good.
Thank you, thank you very much.
Okay.
When I think of avant-garde, i think of something I've never seen before, and although dmitry's work is absolutely exquisite, i saw it probably three times in my season.
I am hella discouraged.
Zanna seems to hate my design.
I start to second-guess myself, which is a very frightening, terrible thing for me.
I wonder if it's too short.
I start putting the garment on her, and she looks amazing.
I mean, I'm so glad she's six feet tall, so she's able to carry this statement piece.
I think the more I work on it, the more inspiration I get.
Yeah, right.
I'm excited.
Bye.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Maybe her arm will come through here, and then I'll cut maybe a neck facing here.
Michelle's fitting didn't go that well.
It's kind of different to see her second-guess herself like this and change her look completely.
I was thinking of doing something like this.
As a side.
Like, the before and after, you know? My look looks like maternity wear.
I absolutely hate it.
Who knows? Guys, it's time to go.
Oh.
Time's up.
Morning of the runway, and there's a lot to do.
How's it going, Michelle? Hmm.
I'm not, like, super frantic, but my dress is gonna require a Mountain of work.
I need to open the sleeve, and I'm in such a rush, i just pull it open.
What the [Bleep.]
? I don't have enough time as it is, so I'm just hand-sewing everything and trying to hide all the imperfections.
Hi.
How are you? I put the look on my model, and I am obsessed with it.
I think it's a really strong concept, and I think it's different than everyone else's in the room.
With fabio, pink is a common theme in his work.
I just hope the fabric will read nicely on the runway.
How are you, dear? Good.
Hi, gorgeous.
At the Mary Kay color design studio, my approach is really simple.
The vinyl has some kind of, like, a silver glitter, and I want to incorporate that shine.
A little bit of that glacier gray to start? Oh, I like that.
Her lips will be totally white and then bring the lip over and cross over here.
Holy Picasso, Batman.
So I want it pulled back over to the front and just give me, like, bangs.
At the chi hair care salon, my vision is, since everything is back to front, think of a pony and then flip it up and do it in the front.
Make a rounded Bob for her.
Okay, tuck it, and we'll give her, like, a belle Bob, nice and round.
Maybe something that screams "shark.
" I could go really crazy breaking the mold in the nail world, but I'm trying to find the essence that is aquatic.
I pick up two bracelets from the QVC accessory wall-- just the right amount of sparkle.
I just want to make sure your shoulders looks good.
I need to fix little things there and there Damn.
Right? But, in general, it looks pretty good.
I really like Jay's look.
I feel a little bit of a disconnect between the jacket and the dress.
One is too hard, and the other one is too soft.
I'm pleased with the outcome.
I mean, this is definitely a statement look.
Designers, we have ten minutes left.
Oh, Helen I wish she didn't bring the ruffles back again.
I just don't know how avant-garde that feels.
This challenge is intimidating because, you know, I'm not an avant-garde designer.
So here's to hoping my concept translates.
Designers, time's up.
Runway.
Let's go.
Avant-garde, here we go.
The winner of Project Runway: All Stars will be given the chance to create their own capsule collection with QVC and will appear on QVC's spring fashion week, a fashion spread in Marie Claire and a position at the magazine as contributing editor for one year.
Chi hair care will send the winner to stay at a luxury spa resort as a special guest at their international conference in Cancun, Mexico, plus product and staff for an entire year of runway shows.
From Mary Kay, an entire year's worth of beauty products for their fashion shows and professional makeup-artist services for their debut show, and from brothers sewing and embroidery, a complete sewing and crafting studio to launch their line, and $150,000 in cash.
Whoa.
[Light laughter.]
Hi, designers.
Hi.
Hello, hello.
This week we had you sketching with the sharks As we took you under the sea as inspiration for an avant-garde challenge.
Let's meet tonight's judges.
First, co-founder and designer of luxury brand Marchesa, Georgina Chapman.
Hi, designers.
Next, one of the most iconic names in American fashion, Mr.
Isaac Mizrahi.
Hi, kids.
Our guest this week rose to fame with the pussycat dolls.
After collaborating with missguided on an urban-chic collection, she's now returning to her first love, music, with a new solo album.
Please welcome the multitalented Nicole scherzinger.
Hi, designers.
[Applause.]
The winning designer will receive, from Lauren b nail couture, a year's worth of nail products worth $5,000.
Have a great show.
Good luck.
Thank you.
I'm feeling pretty good.
My dress looked flattering and beautiful.
I'm just hoping that my concept translates to the judges.
I love the lip.
I think it's really beautiful and feminine and, at the same time, has some really strange dramatic things.
I love the colors.
I love the concept.
I love the placement of everything.
I really think it's the most conceptual piece out there on the runway.
She's absolutely beautiful in it, and I'm really, really proud of myself.
I love how the sequin comes from the skirt and travels up.
I am feeling very confident with my concept.
I could see my vision.
I could see graphic.
I see black and white.
I see lionfish.
I am happy with the outcome.
It's definitely out there, almost like a walking piece of art.
I feel like my vision came to life completely.
I love it.
Designers, you really raised the bar this week.
Thank you for a spectacular runway.
One of you is safe, and that designer is Sonjia.
Oh.
Good job.
Do I take a step forward? [Laughter.]
Thank you, sonjia.
We'll see you next week.
Okay.
Bye, guys.
Good luck.
Bye.
Beautiful job.
Thank you.
The rest of you will all receive critiques.
That means one of you is the winner this week And someone else will be going home tonight.
Helen, you're up first.
Well, I offered to dive in the shark tank so that we would have additional budget, and-- wait, wait.
You sketched with the sharks in a cage--is that what happened? Yes, and then she doubled everyone's budget on fabric.
Wow.
She took one for the team.
But the experience was really intimate, and their skin is made of dermal denticles.
If you were to touch it one way it's soft, and the opposite it's jagged.
So I took something that was microscopic, and I just blew it up.
So what I did was, i made this cape silhouette, like a bird's eye view of the shark, and I added this embellishment just to give it a little shimmer, and I wanted to go from the smooth to the hard.
Before I get started with Helen, i wanted to just say congratulations to everybody.
This was definitely the best runway we've seen all season.
And I think there's something about the words "avant-garde" that are especially important for designers.
And I have to say, Helen, you did an amazing job.
I don't get shark from this dress, but who cares? Okay, good.
One issue with the dress is the trim on the armhole.
It's a little too little of the trim.
I think this is so beautiful.
I feel that you had an emotional connection there, and it tells a story.
You can see the work that went into it and the heart that went into it.
What I love most is the restraint that you showed.
I actually like the embellishment on the arm.
I think I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of that as well.
It's very chic.
It's very classy.
Thank you.
Okay, Justin, let's hear from you.
My inspiration is a yellow swirl coral.
There was a lot of variation in color, and I wanted to play with the silhouette, and the material is supposed to bring out the color.
I like the tones, the gold and the iridescent, and I did immediately get coral.
However, I don't think it's very avant-garde.
I think that it's turned into almost sort of a luncheon dress.
Those pieces at the bottom coming out in the peplum, they're unresolved.
Something about the silhouette is just off.
I don't like the shoulders, and I don't like the waist.
I think the waist is low, and it's kind of, like, upsetting.
I agree with Isaac.
Can you just hike that belt up, like, an inch and a half? There you go.
Look at that.
Oh, thank you.
I like all the ideas.
It's just how it's laying on her.
I think you said a mouthful.
I think the ideas are great, but the execution isn't as crisp as usual with you.
Okay.
You're up, Jay.
One fish that really caught my attention was the lionfish.
It's beautiful and very approachable, but it's actually dangerous.
So I wanted to juxtapose those two by creating this really hard jacket with this printed chiffon.
I really like the vinyl.
I don't know if i love the fabric of the dress.
I'm understanding your skirt, but the top part, I'm sort of getting more Ziggy stardust.
Is anyone else getting David bowie-esque? Maybe the makeup is wrong.
There's something wrong.
I think it's the makeup.
That's what's taking me to glam rock.
Perhaps if you'd separated the two garments.
Are they together, or is that a jacket? They're not together.
It's a halter dress.
It is? Can we see that? I mean, the dress is more successful on its own.
I'm just not sure that that jacket was the solution.
Georgina, i understand what you're saying, but there is something very avant-garde about the way the chiffon moves next to the vinyl.
It's turning me on in this crazy way, and I think you're onto something here.
I think one thing that I'm scared of is doing something that's boring.
Don't listen to us.
Don't.
Don't listen to us.
Seriously, we are just a bunch of bitches, right? Don't listen to us.
Dmitry My creature is a sea horse, so I played with all these geometrical shapes to mimic the skeleton, and then because the sea horse changes the color to adapt to environment, i chose the ivory.
It is really beautiful.
You can see the workmanship is very pure in thought.
The only thing i would say is with the closure, you've got all this amazing geometry and then it sort of gets lost a little in the front.
Dmitry, this is amazing.
There's something incredible about this length.
There's a million things going on right now, but not this, and I feel like this should be one of them.
Yeah, I thought i would go crazy with it and just-- well, yes, but the thing is, you shouldn't identify this crazy.
It should be your modus operandi.
You should jump off the cliff, you know? Avant-garde, whatever-- i want one.
I just love how it's really sexy but still chic.
I've been kind of waiting for you to come out of your shell, design-wise, and I feel like you did it.
Keep doing it.
Thank you.
Hi, Michelle.
I have a flamboyant cuttlefish.
He changes color depending on his scenario, and he's got quite a big fabulous face.
Your look is a look that I can't stop looking at.
I don't know if I like these colors together, and I don't even know if I like this dress, but I do like this dress.
Georgina said she couldn't stop looking at it, and I have to say, I have to stop myself from looking at it, because the more I look at it, the less I like it Oh.
Weirdly.
I love it.
Oh, great.
I love how the shoulder is flirting with us.
The only thing that I would say is I'm losing the female form.
You know what, though? This dress is not about the female form.
I'm just saying this extra little body going on, i would reduce that, and then i would still be living up here.
Speaking of an extra little body and losing the female form I think the balance is actually dead-on on this.
Thank you.
The color scheme is brilliant.
It's delicious.
And she's got resting bitch face.
We call it r.
B.
F.
I feel like she's always looking at me with her lips to the side, like giving me attitude.
I'm using that.
Fabio, let's move on to you.
I landed on the red bubble anemone.
It reproduces asexually, so I took this tailcoat and flipped it back to front and this, obviously, to emulate this idea of, like, tentacles, because it had long tentacles.
Hands are gorgeous.
Thank you.
What's your deal with pink? I guess I'm a sissy.
[Laughs.]
I like the concept of reversing everything, but this week I think that fabric choice really hurt you.
I have to say, i like the color.
I think you have a really ironic sense of color.
I don't think this is your strongest week.
I'm all for the idea of an oversized trouser.
I think that's great.
I think here your proportions are just a touch off.
I like the strong shape, and I like how minimal it is.
I get this from you.
Did you design what you're wearing? Yes.
Yeah, 'cause I want that.
U look more avant-garde this week than your model--I don't know.
Thank you, guys, for a beautiful runway.
I have a feeling that this gonna be a rough deliberation.
So take a seat in the backstage lounge, and we'll call you back out when we've made our decision.
I'm confused.
I have no idea.
I'm kind of positive.
It was a good critique.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, I feel like mine was the worst out of everybody.
Should we start with Helen? I loved every angle of that dress.
There was not one thing i disliked about that dress.
I liked that her design wasn't too on the nose with shark being her inspiration.
I would have loved to have seen a little bit of skin.
When I think of shark, i think of sleek.
I think of strong.
I just wanted a hint of that somewhere.
I also think she showed us another side of herself, whereas, like, Michelle, it was almost, like, affected.
I think her look was very contrived.
I agree.
As an image, it was great, but then it became stale the more it stood in front of us.
For me, it was like "avant-garde.
" I do love the color scheme, though.
I think that that was really bold.
I'm not sure.
I liked the color scheme.
I think probably because of the fabric that she used, so it softened it.
Dmitry, his attention to detail and his eye on proportion here was just so spot-on.
It's not the most avant-garde idea, but he employed the simplest principle in the world and then just gave us this fabulous length.
I feel like it was avant-garde in the thought process, not in the silhouette or the result.
Let's move on to our lowest scores.
Oh, should we start with fabio? To send that down the runway is a big mistake.
But there's something marvelous about fabio's silhouette, which is, like, narrow and giant.
I really did love that he flipped it and it wasn't so obvious, but I didn't like the material.
Maybe he tries to overcompensate with fabrics for femininity.
Should we talk about Justin? I didn't like that at all-- those sort of car-wash-y streamers.
That looked to me like, not even costume, but, like, you know, party city.
It seems like he just totally lost sight of proportion.
I didn't find it as bad.
I really didn't.
I understood what he was going for.
Okay, so Jay I wasn't a big fan of Jay's this week.
It was very disjointed, and we've spoken to him again and again about taking a second look at something.
But I do love that Jay consistently goes for something.
Each piece was nice, but together they didn't give me "all-star.
" So we've made our decision? We know who's going home? Okay, let's bring them back out.
Designers, one of you is the winner this week, and one of you is going home.
Michelle, you're safe.
We'll see you next week.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Good job.
Dmitry and Helen One of you is the winner of this week's challenge.
And that designer is Dmitry.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Finally.
Finally.
You both did an awesome job.
You guys can leave the runway.
Thank you.
Mission accomplished.
I feel like I won the most important challenge.
Avant-garde is to truly show who you are as an artist.
And now to the lowest-scoring designs.
Jay you had a low score, but you're safe.
Thank you.
We'll see you next week.
Good luck, guys.
And that leaves fabio and Justin.
Fabio We appreciate that your designs have a clear identity, but in an avant-garde challenge, we expected a lot from you, of all people, and what you delivered was disappointing.
Justin, we liked that you pushed yourself to deliver an avant-garde design, but we had issues with your silhouette, and your execution fell short.
Fabio and Justin, this was one of the closest decisions of the entire season, and so tonight the eliminated designer is Justin.
Fabio, I got to tell you, you dodged a serious bullet this week.
I'm so sorry.
Thank you, fabio.
You can leave the runway.
Justin, thank you so much for joining us on All Stars.
You've done such amazing work.
We all love you, and we believe in you.
I just want to say thank you to each of you for the opportunity and all the feedback.
It means the world to me, so I'm honored to be here.
So thank you so much.
Justin, it's now time for you to leave the runway, but first I get a kiss and a hug.
Thank you so much.
Love you.
Be well.
You're so talented, Justin.
We're excited to see your work going forward.
You're amazing.
Mwah.
Love you.
I'm not disappointed in myself.
Yes, I'm sad I'm leaving the competition, but I had so much fun.
[Crying.]
It's all good.
Yes, I've been eliminated, but at the same time, I see this more of an opportunity.
I'm happy that I made it this far, and meeting all of you means the world to me.
[Voice breaking.]
And, fabio, I'm happy that you're still here, because I really admire your work.
I'm so sorry.
Don't be sorry.
I wanted to be a source of inspiration for other people who think they are at a disadvantage.
And I just wanted to give them hope, and I hope I did that.
Next on Project Runway: All Stars This week's challenge is all business.
Aah! Oh, my God! [All screaming.]
You can't just depend on, like, "hoping the fabric talks to you.
" I don't know--get your [Bleep.]
straight.
Be careful not to go too morticia.
No ass cheek on the runway.
That is cut so short that you might be arrested.
That's not cute to me at all.
It just said to me, "I've given up.
" It's inches away from being beautiful, which makes it awful.
