Hudson and Rex (2019) s07e08 Episode Script

Hot Prowl in the City

[UPBEAT MUSIC]
- SARAH: Any plans for this evening?
- Yeah.
A big date, actually. Tapas.
Going to go see some music
at a fancy club afterwards.
Staying home and playing
Fortnite again, huh?
Yeah, but you didn't have to
jump to that conclusion so quick.
- [SARAH CHUCKLES]
- What are you going to do?
Well, Rex loves this YouTube
channel about cats who wear GoPros.
So I think we're Hey!
I think we're going to order
in and watch that.
Awesome. Mark, what about you?
What are you up to tonight?
I thought I'd head out to Middle Cove
and watch the northern lights.
Oh, sounds cold.
- MARK: Yeah.
- [REX GROANS]
Well, there's nothing better
than being outdoors, right?
Hey.
I just heard back from Belize.
Oh my God. That's great!
What'd they say?
Well, they confirmed that Charlie
made it back from Orange Walk City.
Then they said that he rented a boat,
and took it down the Rio Nuevo
where he was following Jack.
MARK: Well, I can tell you
there's not much on that river
but Mayan ruins and mangroves.
That's right, you said
you've been to Belize.
I spent six months training
peacekeepers there, yeah.
Okay, so what next?
Well, unfortunately the police there
don't have the resources
to follow up on someone
without proof they're
missing or in danger
like Charlie and Jack.
So
[JESSE SIGHS]
SARAH: Okay, so then,
it's just back to waiting.
Listen, I know I just got here
but part of my deal is some time off.
I'd be happy to jump in a plane
and see if I can give
Charlie a hand down there.
- Really?
- [REX WHINES]
Well, I know how things work
down there. And trust me,
the police aren't always the best way.
DONOVAN: Okay. All right.
I'll make a phone call and
make it happen upstairs.
- Thank you.
- Sure.
I can't tell you how
much I appreciate this.
- [REX BARKS]
- Sorry,
we appreciate this.
Okay.
Okay. It's going to be good.
- It's going to be okay.
- Yeah.
[DEVICE BEEPING]
Lina, don't end the night like this.
[LINA SCOFFS] Me?
Tober, it's our anniversary.
You haven't said ten
words to me all night.
I'm sorry. I'm
- I'm just tired.
- [LINA SCOFFS]
This isn't tired.
This has been happening for weeks.
I know there is something going on
and you're shutting me out!
Babe, if you don't talk
to me then I can't help you!
There's nothing going on.
Okay, have it your way.
I'm sleeping in the guest room.
Do not follow me.
[LINA SIGHS]
[DISTANT THUMP]
Tober?
[GRUNTING AND YELLING, BREAKING GLASS]
Tober, what's going on?
[NOISE CONTINUES]
[LINA SCREAMS]
Lina, call the police!
Aghh!
- Ughh!
- Oh my God!
[TOBER GROANS]
[UPBEAT THEME MUSIC]
- [SARAH SIGHS]
- DONOVAN: What have we got?
The victim is Tober Wells.
He's a big shot
at M&B Precision Tooling.
His wife found him being
attacked by an intruder.
- How's he doing?
- He's suffered a stab wound
but fortunately, the knife
didn't hit anything critical.
Prognosis is he'll make a full recovery.
How'd the intruder get in?
No signs of forced entry.
The odd thing
is the Wellses had set their
security system for the night
and it didn't go off.
Bypassed.
- It seems like a professional job.
- Agreed.
It was really dark, you know?
So I didn't get a good
look at whoever it was.
And all I could think about was
calling 911. So I
ran to the guest room to get my phone.
Why was your phone in the guest room?
Tober and I'd had a big fight.
And so I was sleeping in there.
What did the intruder do once you ran?
I don't know. I didn't see
them again after I left.
The intruder didn't follow you?
No.
- Was anything stolen?
- Uh
No, I don't think so.
Anything out of the
ordinary happen recently?
Ah, well nothing in particular.
I mean, um
Tober's just been acting off
for weeks now.
Agitated.
Distracted. It's actually
why we had fought.
[REX WHINES]
SARAH: Any idea what was bothering him?
At first, I thought it was work.
I mean, the guy's always
travelling for business nonstop.
Now I'm just I'm not so sure.
[SOFT MUSIC]
Are we almost done?
I'd really like to get to the
hospital to see him if that's okay.
Of course.
We'll get someone to take you.
Thank you.
Should we make anything of the fact
that Lina was in another room
while her husband was attacked?
I don't think so. She
seemed genuinely distraught.
Yeah, right.
Sounds like the intruder
basically ignored Lina.
I wonder why.
Well, perhaps they
weren't interested in her.
You think they were targeting Tober?
Yeah, that's a distinct possibility
but would also explain
why nothing was stolen.
- [DRAMATIC MUSIC]
- [REX SNIFFS]
[REX SNIFFS]
[REX BARKS]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
- What is it, buddy?
- [REX YELPS]
Joe.
- There's a partial footprint over there.
- [REX WHINES]
- [REX BARKS]
- Could be the intruder's.
[REX BARKS]
Rex, I know, I know. You're
excited. Good job, boy.
[REX BARKS]
You know what, Rex?
A lot of things go with
turkey bacon, egg, and cheese
but is tahini one of
them? I don't think so.
[REX SNIFFS] [REX GROANS]
Yeah. Good call.
Any updates?
Well, nothing on the
neighbourhood security cameras.
Anything on Tober Wells?
I spoke to his employer,
M&B Precision Tooling
and everybody had nothing
but praise for the guy.
No one noticed anything off with him?
He seemed like his usual chipper self.
What about his personal life?
JESSE: Well, Tober Wells, yeah, he has
- no social media presence.
- [COMPUTER TRILLS]
No debt.
No record.
No criminal association whatsoever.
He seems like a pretty solid citizen.
And his marriage?
Seemed to live a happy life.
No sign of any domestic dispute.
- How about his family?
- No children.
He and Lina, they
don't have any surviving parents
or siblings on either side.
Look, guys. It just seems like
they live this perfectly happy life.
And yet something was bothering Tober.
The question is whether or not
that had anything to do
with him being stabbed.
I keep wondering how the intruder
managed to bypass the security system.
JESSE: That's a good
question. You know what?
I have a friend that
works for BrightPath Security.
The same security company
that the Wellses used?
JESSE: Yeah. That's right.
He might have some theories
about what's going on.
Okay, talk with Lina again.
Find out who knew the
codes to the house.
Okay.
Come on, buddy.
LINA: The surgeon says that
he's going to be just fine.
I honestly don't know what I
would have done if I'd lost him.
Well, I'm glad to hear
that he'll be okay.
Thanks.
When he's up to it, I
will need to interview him.
Um, yeah. No, I understand.
Actually, I have a few more
questions to ask you as well.
Oh, of course.
So, we suspect the intruder
knew your security alarm code.
No, that's impossible. We're very
careful with that information.
- You never shared it with a friend?
- No.
Maybe you gave it to someone
who did work in your house?
Uh well, we would give
it to our housekeepers.
But we would change the code
whenever they stopped working for us.
Who's your current housekeeper?
Um, actually, we don't have one.
We're still trying to find
someone to replace Astrid.
And who is Astrid?
Astrid Sabelka.
Yeah, Tober fired her
a couple of weeks ago.
Do you know why he let her go?
Um, I'm not sure.
He said he was not happy with her work.
Hmm.
Did she take the firing well?
Does anybody?
WOMAN: Tober was stabbed?
When did this happen?
Last night.
Oh my God!
Is he all right?
He will be.
I need to ask you some
questions though, Astrid.
All right. But I'm
telling you right now,
I didn't have anything to do
with what happened to Tober.
Where were you last night?
My husband and I went to the movies.
I still have the ticket stubs
if you want to see them.
Yeah, I will.
How was working for the Wellses?
It was a job.
The pay wasn't great
but that's usually how it
is with well-to-do people.
They were a little weird
but who am I to judge?
What do you mean, a little weird?
Tober and Lina live
very separate lives.
He's out of town half the week for work.
She goes on her fancy retreats.
Maybe that's how you
stay married for so long.
- Avoid your spouse.
- Huh.
- And why were you let go?
One time when they were away,
I'd been having a bad day,
so I decided to use the jacuzzi.
Tober came home and caught me.
[REX WHINES]
So, Tober fired you
because you used his jacuzzi
without permission.
No, he fired me because I saw him.
What do you mean?
He told Lina he was going
to be in Singapore for work.
Thanks for doing this,
Serge. Appreciate it.
Hey, I owe you after you showed me
that slide/dash trick in Fortnite.
Well, consider the debt officially paid.
Okay, I'm logged into our sites.
- Who are you interested in?
- Tober Wells,
2510 Oxten Pond Street.
I want to know all the activity
- that happened on his system last night.
- [COMPUTER TRILLS]
Okay. Alarm was set at 6:45 pm.
Okay, well that's the Wellses heading
to their 7:00 pm dinner reso, check.
Uh, disarmed at 8:10.
Hmm. Short dinner.
Yeah, well, I mean,
apparently they had a fight
and came home early, So that tracks.
Security rearmed at 10:15 pm.
Presumably when they went to bed
- And disarmed at 11:27 pm.
- Wait.
Are you sure it was disarmed?
[KEYBOARD CLACKING]
[COMPUTER TRILLS]
No false attempts registered.
No signs the system was hacked.
So the intruder knew the security code.
What are you not telling me, Serge?
- Nothing!
- Nothing?
You always do that with your nose
when you have a double
movement coming my way.
- Okay, this isn't Fortnite!
- No, it's not.
It's an attempted murder investigation.
Okay, okay.
BrightPath had a security
breach about a month ago.
Were the security codes accessed?
[SERGE SIGHS] Yes.
But we were pretty certain
that none of them circulated.
How can you be sure?
Because we paid the ransom.
Hackers steal your data
but they don't double cross
you when they've been paid.
It's bad for business.
Was Tober Wells one of the victims?
[KEYBOARD CLACKING]
[COMPUTER TRILLS]
Yeah, he was.
- [JESSE SIGHS]
- [ELEVATOR PINGS]
- The housekeeper's alibi checks out.
- Anything else?
Forensics examined the
shoe print Rex found.
It's a very common sneaker.
Unisex, size medium. Could
belong to over half the city.
What about DNA and
fingerprints at the house?
Only the Wells' and Astrid's.
I did find one thing interesting though.
There's no indication
the lock was picked.
Key entry.
So somehow the intruder
got his hands on a house key
and the security code.
- What else?
- I spoke with the border services.
They confirmed what Astrid said.
Tober never went to Singapore.
In fact, his employer told me that
he hasn't been on a business
trip in several years.
So where did he go?
And why did he lie about it?
JESSE: Hey, guys.
BightPath had a data breach.
Tober Wells's security
code was compromised
but take a look at the address
associated with the account.
DONOVAN: 71 Fieldwood Drive?
- [REX YELPS]
- That can't be right.
He lives on Oxten.
He owns a second house.
Yeah, 25 kilometres outside of town.
You and Rex want to take a little trip?
- Yeah, let's do it.
- [REX BARKS]
[SARAH KNOCKS]
I guess no one's home?
The car is here.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[DISTANT RUSTLING]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[WOMAN LAUGHS]
Is this your dog?
- Ah, he's gorgeous!
- Yeah, his name is Rex.
And you are?
SJPD.
I'm Margit Peters.
What's this all about?
Do you know a man named Tober Wells?
Of course I do.
He's my husband.
MARGIT: Tober and I
have been married nine months.
[REX GRUNTS]
- SARAH: Rex.
- [MARGIT CHUCKLES]
That they say dogs can smell
when a woman is pregnant.
Is that true?
Well, if any dog can,
it's Rex over here.
How far along are you?
Almost seven months now.
Tober was keen to start trying.
Why are you asking me all this?
SARAH: Margit, Tober
was attacked last night.
What?
Where is he? Is he okay?
- I need to see him!
- [REX GROANS]
SARAH: He's recovering in the hospital.
You can visit him but first
we have some questions to ask.
[MARGIT SIGHS]
Where were you last night?
Here at home.
Can anyone corroborate that?
[MARGIT SIGHS]
There's no one to corroborate
because I was here alone.
[REX GROANS]
Tober was away on one of his work trips.
Margit, Tober doesn't travel for work.
What are you talking about?
LINA: What is wrong with you, Tober?
- How could you do that to me?
- Lina, please let me explain.
- No!
- You do not get to explain!
- Lina!
You betrayed me!
You betrayed our marriage!
You're having a baby with another woman!
- Lina.
- Oh, you know, this is
I'm done.
- Lina, please!
- [LINA SCOFFS]
[TOBER SIGHS]
That wasn't the way I
wanted her to find out.
I'm sure it wasn't.
Tober, I need to ask
you a few questions.
Sure.
What can you tell me about
the intruder you fought off?
Not much. He was strong.
He wore cologne.
That's all I can remember.
Okay.
Do you know who had access
to your house key and security code?
Just me and Lina.
She said that something's
been bothering you lately.
Was that about your dual lives?
Dual lies, more like.
I met Margit in line at a coffee shop.
You know, we started talking
and the next thing I knew, I
had fallen in love.
I just didn't know how to tell Lina.
I didn't want to hurt her.
You know, and it was
working for a while.
But then,
Margit became pregnant
and she started
demanding more of my time.
And then the stress, and the
[TOBER SIGHS] I was suffocating.
Were you going to tell Lina?
Eventually, at the right time
but there never really
was the right time.
Tober, is there anyone
in either of your lives
who would want to harm you?
No. No one.
[PHONE RINGS]
- Excuse me for a moment.
- Sure.
Hey, Joe.
Sarah.
We just found out about another B&E
with distinct similarities
to what happened
at the Wells' place.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
This is Ali and Zar Assaraf.
Two weeks ago, they were married
only to wake up the next morning
and discover that they were robbed
in the middle of the night.
A hot prowl.
DONOVAN: Estimated value of
the good stolen is $98,000.
Gold, jewelry, cash.
The thieves took everything.
The Assarafs claim to have
not heard or seen anything.
JESSE: Well, they had a security system
that was set up before they went to bed
and disarmed at some
point during the night.
SARAH: No forced entry,
suggesting key access.
It's the Wells' break-in to a tee.
Which leads me to believe that the thief
actually intended to rob the Wellses.
Yeah, except Tober woke
up and interrupted them.
I want a list of every
burglar in St. John's.
Wanted, in jail, on parole, the works.
[PHONE CHIMES]
- It's Mark.
- [REX YELPS]
Mark. I'm here with Sarah and Jesse.
- [REX BARKS]
- And Rex.
SARAH: Where are you?
I'm at a police station in Corozal
near the mouth of the Rio Nuevo River.
What are you doing there?
Well, Charlie followed Jack
and a woman he was with here.
So you found them?
Uh, well unfortunately, no.
They all got on a plane here
and flew out to Ambergris Caye.
That's a popular tourist
spot off the coast.
MARK: I'm going to
follow them out there.
If I leave now, I can
just make the next flight.
Okay, Mark. Keep us informed
the moment you find out anything, okay?
Will do. Thank you.
Well, that's encouraging, right?
Yeah, soon Mark is going to find out
exactly where Charlie is.
SARAH: It won't be soon
enough. Right, Rex?
[REX YELPS]
[SARAH SIGHS]
I went through the list of burglars.
None fit the MO or the timeline.
It means there's a new player in town.
Any updates on the
security codes, Jesse?
Well, I checked the security
systems for each victim
but they're with different companies.
Meaning the codes didn't come
from the BrightPath data leak.
Right. And I've tried
to find other links
between the homeowners. You know,
message boards, jobs,
socials, hobby groups.
- But so far, nothing.
- DONOVAN: Hold on.
The Assarafs are newlyweds.
- Check the wife's maiden name.
- Okay.
- [KEYBOARD CLACKING]
- [COMPUTER TRILLING]
Zar's last name before she
got married was Labeki.
One second.
- [KEYBOARD CLACKING]
- [COMPUTER TRILLING]
Huh. Credit card statements reveal all.
Turns out Zar and Lina both purchased
memberships to the same women's club.
WOMAN: Lina Wells has been a
member of the club for years.
She's one of my favourite clients.
What happened to Tober was horrible.
What about Zar Labeki?
She just recently took out a membership.
May I ask what the Avalon Club
has to do with your investigation?
- We're just looking into some details.
- Okay.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFS]
- Um
- [REX BARKS]
What's going on with your dog?
- He's alerting to a scent.
- [REX BARKING]
- [REX BARKS]
- What is this?
It's the valet parking office.
- May I enter?
- Sure.
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX BARKS]
- May I open this?
- Yeah, of course.
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX BARKS]
Who does this locker belong to?
Uh, Rocco Musetti. He's
the valet we recently hired.
He'll be here soon to start his shift.
This is him.
Rocco Musetti.
SJPD.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Rex.
[REX BARKS]
[ROCCO GRUNTS]
[BYSTANDERS EXCLAIMING]
- [REX BARKS]
- ROCCO: Ughh!
- [ROCCO GROANS]
- [REX BARKING]
Whoa whoa, whoa whoa.
[REX BARKING]
Good job, buddy.
It's not very often we
find a key cutting machine
in someone's work locker.
Just something I picked
up at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Is that illegal?
Well, it is if you're using the keys
to break into someone's home.
I'd never do something like that.
Two patrons from the Avalon Club
had their homes broken
into via key access.
They also used the valet service
which makes you a common denominator.
It sounds like a coincidence to me.
Two of their homes also had
their security systems bypassed.
You wouldn't happen to know
anything about that would you?
No.
A footprint was found in one
of the victim's flower beds.
And that footprint
matched a sneaker that
we found in your locker.
Where were you on the nights
of the 1st and the 15th Rocco?
I was having dinner at
my favourite restaurant.
Indira's Plate.
Ask the owners.
They'll vouch for me.
DONOVAN: So we're still
holding Rocco for a while
on possession of burglary tools.
We'll let him stew and see what happens.
In the meantime, have
you confirmed his alibi?
Yeah, the restaurant owner said
that he arrived at supper time
and then stayed till last call. So
2:00 am.
JESSE: Well, that's either
one long chicken masala binge
or a perfect alibi.
But if Rocco was at the restaurant,
then someone else had to
have entered the house.
Well, he must be working with a partner.
Yeah, but Rocco's footprint
was found in the planter.
If he had a partner, why
would he go to the house at all?
DONOVAN: And how did he
get the security codes?
I mean, we know it
wasn't through the data breach.
This whole thing just isn't adding up.
You know what?
I was thinking. The alarm
systems in both houses
are controlled by phone apps.
It's possible that some boy
was able to clone the victims' phones
to gain access to the app.
But Rocco didn't have access
to the victims' phones.
So who did?
[JOE SIGHS]
TOBER: Given my situation,
I've had to be really
careful with my phones
and who gets a look at them.
You never lost one of them
or left one unattended
for a period of time?
No.
What about Lina? Did she
lose one of her phones?
I don't think so but I can't be sure.
But you'll have to ask her yourself
because she isn't talking to me anymore.
MARGIT: Sorry, but I have to interrupt.
- It's time to change your dressing.
- Oh, thanks.
[REX GRUNTS]
[REX GROANS]
Hey, you.
Maybe you can tell us
if it's a boy or a girl.
No. Let's not spoil the surprise.
In a funny way, getting
stabbed was a bit of a blessing.
It brought things to a head.
No, I'm sorry. I have
not spoken with Tober.
Um, I'm actually on my
way to my lawyer's office
and I think that he will be doing
the talking for me from now on.
Lina, I need to ask you
about your cell phone.
My cell phone? What about it?
Did it ever go missing?
- No.
- No?
You never misplaced it
or left it somewhere?
Uh, no. No, I didn't.
I'm really sorry but I do need
to get to this appointment.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX BARKS] [REX SNIFFS]
Where's your dog going?
I don't know.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
[REX WHINES]
LINA: Uh, is this normal dog behaviour?
Actually, I think Rex is
trying to tell me something
about your wall here.
[REX BARKS]
What do you think he smells something?
No, I think he's seeing something.
- [REX BARKS]
- There's nothing there.
- [REX BARKS]
- Not that we can see.
DONOVAN: One eight three eight.
That's the Wells' security code.
It was written in ultraviolet marker
directly above the planter
where Rocco's footprint was found.
So they stepped in the dirt
when they wrote down the code?
Ah, you saw it the whole time
and you were trying
to tell us, huh, pal?
[REX BARKS]
SARAH: I also took Rex to the Assarafs
and he found their code
written on a window.
Rex! You deserve a
doggie raise, my friend.
[REX WHINES]
DONOVAN: So Rocco would
go to the victims' houses,
leave the security code
and also a copy of the
house key that he'd made.
And later his partner would come
and use them to enter the home.
Yeah, but how is Rocco
getting the alarm codes?
Do you recognize this number?
Uh, the year you were born?
That's funny.
Actually, it was found on the side
of a house that was broken into.
Your footprints were found directly
beneath it in a flower planter.
What about this one?
It's the security code of
another house that was broken into.
And we think that you
copied the key for that one.
I don't know anything about
any ultraviolet light stuff.
No?
Are you sure?
Because we searched your house.
And we found UV markers.
Yeah, it's not looking
too good for you, Rocco.
I haven't heard one concrete thing.
You want something concrete?
One of the homeowners was stabbed.
- Wait, wait, wait.
- You're looking at attempted murder.
- Nobody said anything about murder.
- No?
Prove it to me.
Tell me what happened.
Somebody left a note
in my locker at work.
It said, Do you want to make some money?
And there was a number
to call. So I did.
What happened when you called?
A woman told me to make copies
of a couple of club members' keys.
Then what?
I was to leave them outside the houses
and write the security
codes on the walls.
Where'd you get the codes?
They were left in my locker too.
Any idea who dropped off the numbers?
I don't know.
But one time, I saw a car driving away.
What made the car stand out?
It was for a maid service, but,
not the one the club uses.
I just wanted to make
a little extra money.
Tell me what happened.
I just got a call one day from a woman.
She offered me money to copy a
couple of my clients' cell phones.
Lina Wells and Zar Assarafs, right?
- Yes.
- And you knew how to clone a phone?
No. They gave me a cell phone
and said all I had to do was
plug it into Lina and Zar's phones
and the software did the rest.
What did you do with the
security code when you got it?
I wrote it out and took
it to the Avalon Club
and then left it in a
locker of one of the valets.
And what did you do with
the phone you were given
after you'd finished the cloning?
I was told to leave it in
a waste basket in a park.
Do you have any idea who picked it up?
- No.
- Think back.
Did you see anyone in the park?
I'm sorry.
No, wait. I do remember
there was a pregnant woman.
- [DOOR LOCK BEEPS]
- DONOVAN: Yeah, thank you.
Hey, Margit wasn't home?
No, neither was Tober. It
looked like they both cleared out
but we did find this.
A pregnancy bump.
Margit faked her pregnancy?
Yeah, I think that's what
Rex was so confused about
because she looked pregnant
but he must've been smelling
the silicone the bump was made from.
JESSE: Guys, you might want
to take a look at this.
Forensics they sent me the prints
they lifted from Margit's house.
Wait, that's Margit.
JESSE: Yeah, Margit
Carrera is her real name.
She's a B&E artist from the West Coast.
Oh, okay, so wealthy older
gentleman meets a younger woman.
And they have an exciting relationship.
Only he doesn't realize that
she's a professional thief.
Maybe she was setting
Tober up this whole time.
Yeah, it all seems like a lot
of work for very little payoff.
Yeah, Margit might be
on to something bigger.
- Let me look into it.
- [REX GRUNTS]
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[DOOR LOCK BEEPS]
If BrightPath gets wind
that I'm helping you,
- they're going to fire me.
- So? Come work for me.
I mean, the pay is just okay
but you get good benefits.
- You're kidding.
- No, the benefits aren't great either.
But I'm always on the
hunt for tech wizards.
[SERGE SIGHS]
Okay.
What do you want to see?
Anyone whose security code was
accessed during the data breach.
- [KEYBOARD CLACKING]
- [COMPUTER TRILLING]
Anyone specific you're looking for?
Someone in connection to Tober Wells.
Stop there.
M&B Precision Tooling.
What about it?
Well, that's the
company Tober works for.
[KEYBOARD CLACKING]
According to this, they have
security at two of their properties.
One of them was their headquarters.
And the other is a
warehouse in Mt. Pearl.
So, you're thinking
Margit latched onto Tober
in order to access M&B's warehouse.
Well, not exactly. See, M&B, they
house all sorts of odds and ends
but they share a building
with a company called
Paradise Logistics.
SARAH: And what do they do?
Well, they're a secure holding facility
for all sorts of imports,
like appliances, furniture, auto parts.
They're currently housing 2,500
catalytic converters.
Each one with about $1000
worth of heavy metal in it.
That's a $2.5 million payday.
Yeah.
I can see why it attracted
Margit's attention.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
We're good from here, thanks.
Okay. So on the other side of
this wall is Paradise Logistics.
The outdoor perimeter
is heavily secured.
Cameras, motion detectors,
barbed wire fencing.
Yeah, not to mention security
codes on the gates and doors.
Yeah, so Margit could avoid all
that by entering through this space.
And then, would have access
to here through Tober.
The question is, how was she
planning to get through this wall?
Yeah.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[REX SNIFFING]
[REX BARKS]
What have you got, buddy?
[REX WHINES]
[REX BARKS]
[REX BARKS]
Sarah.
[REX SNIFFING]
Okay!
[REX SNIFFING]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
JESSE: Welcome to Paradise Logistics.
Looks like there's a lot of
security inside, too.
We must be in a camera blind spot.
We should stay right here
so we don't trip any alarms.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
[REX BARKS]
You're picking up a scent there, Rex?
No, he's seeing something.
[REX BARKS]
[REX BARKING]
[MYSTERIOUS MUSIC]
Written with an ultraviolet
marker, no doubt.
Looks like someone's
laid a path for Margit
to avoid the warehouse's
security system.
And Rex is following that path.

RECORDING: System disarmed.
[SECURITY SYSTEM BEEPING]
System disarmed.
System disarmed.
And that's how you disable
a warehouse security system.
Yeah! Now all we need to do
is figure out how to
catch a burglar in the act.
[SARAH SIGHS]
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC]
[DOOR OPENING]
Hello again, Rocco.
Or should I call you,
Patrick Hanson?
See, we're finally able
to access your juvenile records.
Whichever you prefer.
But you're not just a valet, are you?
You also work part-time at
Paradise Logistics, right?
A guy's got to hustle to make a living.
You also know Margit Carrera.
I mean, you're both from out West.
I figured you'd met out there.
She convinced you to come here
so you could pull B&Es together, right?
Never heard of any Margit.
Interesting.
Because this Margit,
who you've never heard of
is ready to throw you under the bus.
Let you take the fall for everything
including the attempted murder.
I told you I didn't have
anything to do with that!
No?
Then help yourself out.
Come on! It's up to you.
What did you have in mind?
You were the inside
man at Paradise, right?
You basically marked a UV
path for her to disarm systems.
You seem to have everything figured out.
What do you need from me?
Your last job was to
give her the thumbs up.
Tell her everything was good to go.
Except you ended up in custody.
Here's the thing.
Margit doesn't know this.
So here's how you help yourself out.
You call her.
And you tell her
everything is good to go.
Or you go to prison.
The choice is yours.
[DRAMATIC PERCUSSION]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
[MARGIT CHUCKLES]
TOBER: What did I tell you?
- I had my doubts, Tober but not anymore.
- [TOBER CHUCKLES]
Colombia's looking pretty
great right now isn't it?
- Sure is.
- [MARGIT CHUCKLES]
We'd better get the
security system disabled.
Rocco came through with the arrows,
just like I knew he would.
This must be so much easier
when you're not pregnant.
[REX GROWLS] [REX BARKS]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC]
Rex.
[REX BARKS]
SARAH: You realize Margit
didn't meet you by accident.
I know.
I guess it was pretty
obvious from the start
that she was after something.
Oh, so then why did
you go along with her?
Because she was exciting.
My life wasn't.
I mean, I had a nice house, money,
but a very boring marriage.
How did the two of you end
up becoming partners in crime?
Just kind of happened.
I mean, maybe she knew all along
that I would do whatever she wanted.
Anyway, she let me in on her plans.
Starting with the
robbery at the Assarafs?
Yeah, that was a dry run to
make sure the UV would work
and that Rocco would pull
off his end of the deal.
And then what about your house?
Well, that was to plant our cover story.
I mean, who would suspect
a bigamous stabbing victim
and his pregnant second
wife of pulling a robbery?
So all of it was just to
set up the warehouse robbery.
Yeah, that's right.
You do know that Margit
would have dumped you
as soon as she pulled
off that job, right?
No, that is where you're wrong.
- Wrong?
- Because you think
Margit was after the big score
but she was content robbing houses.
The warehouse job?
That was my idea.
So you two were just going to run off
and live in bliss in Colombia?
Are you crazy?
Margit is extremely high maintenance.
I mean, she might have planned
to run off to Colombia, but
I had a nice little
casa picked out in Spain
just for me.
Oh well.
[DISTANT SIREN]
Did we hear from Lina Wells?
Well, apparently,
she is not wasting a tear
over Tober or her marriage.
- [DONOVAN CHUCKLES] Good for her.
- Yeah.
[DONOVAN SIGHS]
All right, that's it for me.
I'm done for today.
Okay. I'm not too far behind you.
[DOOR LOCK BEEPS]
Mark!
What are you doing back?
I didn't want you to
find out over the phone.
Especially Sarah.
What are you talking about?
The woman with Jack, her
name was Maria Zunino.
She had information on a cartel.
They were after her.
Jack was trying to help her escape
but they tracked her down.
Charlie saved Jack and Maria.
But he took a bullet
and fell into the water.
They couldn't find his body.
[FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING]
Mark, what are you doing here?
Sarah.
I'm sorry.
Charlie is missing.
Presumed dead.

Hey, Sarah.
- It's good to see you.
- [REX YELPS]
[SARAH SIGHS]
You too.
So, is it true? Are you back?
I am.
Yeah, there's still no word on Charlie
but I know he'd want
me to go back to work.
[REX BARKS]
Oh, yeah.
You and I are going to be
seeing a lot of each other again, buddy.
